Information & details collected by Microsoft when you report a problem in Windows

Question: Information & details collected by Microsoft when you report a problem in Windows

When a hardware or software problem occurs, you face a crash, your application is not working properly or your IE got crashed several times. When all such nasty thing occurs, Windows collects information from your computer that describes the problem and then creates a problem report.
Problem report details can include the name of a program that has stopped working, the date and time that a problem occurred, or the version of the program that has encountered the problem. Sending a problem report allows Windows to notify you if a solution is available.
If a solution is not available, you might be asked to provide additional details about the problem. Your participation can help Microsoft create new solutions. Additional details can include files or parts of files that help identify the problem or explain how it has affected your computer.
Windows does not intentionally collect any personal information about you. You can view the additional details in a problem report before sending it to Microsoft.
To know more about what information is being sent view the details of a problem report. Here?s How: Go to Control Panel or Notification area and open Action Center.Click Maintenance.Under Check for solutions to problem reports, click View reliability history. In the list of reliability details, double-click any item to view its technical details.
For more information about reporting problems and your privacy, go to the Privacy Statement for the Windows Error Reporting Service.

Preferred Solution: Information & details collected by Microsoft when you report a problem in Windows

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Personal details of 100m Facebook users have been harvested and published on the net by a security consultant.Ron Bowles used a piece of code to scan Facebook profiles, collecting data not hidden by the user's privacy settings. The list, which has been shared as a downloadable file, contains the URL of every searchable Facebook user's profile, their name and unique ID.

Answer:Details of 100m Facebook users collected and published

If the details are already available over the Facebook site, then why did this person take all this trouble ? This can be possibly used for offline data searching but other than that I do not see any point.

Again I hope this is the correct subforum.
I'm curious about something and will try and make it as clear as possible.
I have seen targeted adverts appear on a forum even though neither hubby nor myself have searched the subject via Google but only once on a second forum/site which is totally unrelated to the first forum; my concern is how this information is being collected by or sent to the first site in question, is this what is known as Spyware or is it simply that Google will/does permit all terms searched within any site to be accessed by all other sites?
For example, if I were on this forum and typing about Ford Anglia's, should that information automatically be accessible to another forum in the form of a pop-up advert or is the forum in which the advert appears to be questioned with regard to its practices and how it is collecting such information?
Also, whilst on the subject of adverts, does a site owner have the right to decline certain adverts if they so choose? I think I know the answer to this but would like to know from people that will be better able to answer the question with some degree of insight in to the workings of the internet.

-Someone just said he could tell when and where a fb account was created from device/hardware id. Is this possible? If yes, how?

-He also said he could tell all the fb accounts created from a certain device/machine. Is this possible? If yes, how?

-How can i find out what information can a fb page collect if it doesn't share its privacy policy? How is it collected?

-How can i find out what information can a website collect if it doesn't share its privacy policy? How is it collected?

-A few days ago my browser notified me that a certain website is trying to do something (canvas something... i forgot the exact term and wording). I often navigate that website but that was the first time i got such a message (haven't changed any settings). What could that be?

-How can i prevent websites and fb pages from collecting information about me? How can i be completely anonymous to a website/fb page every time i navigate it?

Answer:Information collected by websites

A lot of these questions can't be answered because I don't know. However most browsers (you didnt tell me which) have a "tell websites I don't want to be tracked" option that will help however keep in mind privacy is all but dead essentially. If your records are requested, then many companies have to give up your information. You could try using a proxy but they are very slow and no guarantee that you still can't be tracked. One trick to being anonymous is erased once you login to a site like Facebook. You can't truly log in to a website and be anonymous.

For example, for you to post this I can get your IP address and figure out roughly where you are.

Some of your other questions are too vague and lacking detail to answer, sorry.

I know that when I access a website, it's possible that the website collects my hardware details and system information. I have a couples of questions about this.

1. Usually why they are collecting my hardware details and system information?

2. Could they also get my OEM or registration code e.g. of my windows system and gets to know my persoanl registration information from Microsoft?

3. How can I stop my hardware details and system information being collected?

Many thanks.

we have an application that uses the .net report writer - some of the symbols are incompatible between windows 7 and 8 and 10.  our solution has been to use a "windows 7 theme" to our customers' desktops.  On a new lenovo tablet that
is not easy. No windows 7 themes are installed with windows 8.  When I go to "add more themes" the microsoft website only provides more themes, some of which are "windows 7 compatible" but they do not fix the problem.  I don't
want customers to have to get a third party app for a solution as who know what will happen later.  I also cannot find "windows classic" using search.  I just want our applications to work as designed.  These should not be incompatible
but they are. We are using all microsoft products

I have occasionally purchased used pcs in the past and never really thought to look past the "genuine" icon or whatever the validation tool says. I'll bet this is what most rely on. I had reason to clean install recently and it involved 150+ updates. Are you really saying there is no way in all those updates for it to perform the same inspections that the MGA utility does?

If the MGA report is the definitive test, can someone share the checklist you use to interpret that?

Teach a man to fish already.

Answer:Details of what to look for in MGA report

Hi Tns.
All that the Mgadiag tool does is collate information.
Mainly from the software service protection folder.

The service.exe generated by this file is called everytime you login(1) or update(2) and is interactve with both.
This .exe performs the Genuine test(1) as such, the results of this check are then passed across to the WindowsUpdate log(2) and the System details log(1) .

Thats just a short brief synopsis, but carries the basic operations performed.

The checklist in its own right is massive, because of the the different permutations, we know a fair bit about it, but by no means everything.

Windows 10 is the world’s most controversial success. Even for a (mostly) free upgrade, 75M installs in just five weeks is exceptional. But as Windows 10’s user base rapidly increases so do complaints about how it invades user privacy and forcibly controls updates. In response to this Microsoft has now taken a first step in the right direction…
Speaking to press this week Microsoft Corporate Vice President Jim Alkove said the company will stop hiding the contents of Windows 10 updates and what changes they will make once installed.
In fact Alkove went as far as admitting these changes come directly from user complaints:
“We’ve heard that feedback from enterprise customers so we’re actively working on how we provide them with information about what’s changing and what new capabilities and new value they’re getting,” he declared.
But did you spot that vital keyword? Yes, Enterprise.

You can only [email protected] off your enterprise customers so much before they push back.  I wonder if this will eventually include Non-Enterprise but I sincerely doubt it. Microsoft probably figures since you cannot stop the updates why bother telling you what is in them or what or what they do.

Answer:Windows 10 Updates U-Turn: Microsoft Details Changes

Hard to believe that some big companies already made a full switch to Windows 10. There's still many issues that needs to be solved, without speaking of updates that messes up programs mostly used in entreprise environment. I wonder where they got that feedback from.

We know Microsoft will begin rolling out Windows 10 on Wednesday, July 29.

But beyond that statement, the company has shared relatively few details about which versions will hit when; which devices will get it first; and what the follow-through plan is for its coming operating system.

On July 2, via a blog post from Terry Myerson, Executive Vice President of the newly combined Windows and Devices Group, Microsoft shared a few more specifics about how it will deliver Windows 10.

Microsoft is closing in on release-to-manufacturing (RTM) and "soon" will get the RTM build to its OEMs, Myerson said. After that, Microsoft will provide retailers with the RTM build so they can get the OS to individuals with recently purchased Windows 8.1 devices. (The image embedded above in this post is the sticker that will be on devices that have been proactively tested with Windows 10.)

I recently used IOBit uninstaller to remove all traces of a program from the registry. I'm assuming it removed something that caused this issue, because after I used it all my program information in Add/Remove programs was missing. However, other users on my PC show all information in Add/Remove programs. Is there a way to repopulate this or would I have to create a new user? Thank you

Answer:Missing Program information/details in Add/Remove programs

Hello Guys,

I hope someone can make some sense of this report I got on my desktop, after my PC restarted on it's own !!!

I have Windows XP pro and was Using Webroot's Window Washer, when my screen suddenly went black, and the computer restarted, when everything loaded, I got a message, saying something like,
This machine has suffered a Serious Error, and on the dropdown reports were these messages.

Microsoft Windows
Error Signature
DCCode: 1000007e BCP1:C0000005 BCP2:804E 3687
BCP3: F88D 2BB4 BCP4 : F88D 28B0 OSVer: 5_1_2600
SP : 2_0 Product : 256_1

Then in another dropdown was this report.

Error Report Contents
The following files will be included in the error report

I just clicked OK and carried on using the PC without a problem.

Is there anything I should do, Or worry about.

When my PC rebooted the first time, I went back to Webroot's Window Washer and clicked on it again, and the very same thing happened, part way through the wash, the screen went black and the PC rebooted.

Thank you for any help you may give me,
I keep saying this, because it's true, you guys are the best, and haven't let me down yet

Answer:Microsoft Windows Error Report

Since it happens while using the Windows Wash program, I'd first suggest uninstalling that program - then reinstall a fresh copy.

The error that you received (STOP 0x7e for short) occurred when an application tried to access memory in a way that wasn't allowed. Since there's many things that can do this, the best bet is to try the obvious before diving in for detailed troubleshooting.

Have you added anything new to your computer (hardware, software, updates, etc) recently?

I have inherited a Proof of Concept ATA environment which has been currently running for a few months, I have updated to ATA version 1.8.6765.36693 and had alot of  "Reconnaissance using directory services enumeration" in my Timeline which I
found this KB KB3191777. In the hope of removing these in bulk I ran the command stated  db.SuspiciousActivity.update({_t: "SamrReconnaissanceSuspiciousActivity"}, {$set: {Status: "Dismissed"}}, {multi: true})

As I have a good idea of what was causing them.

Now whenever I try to close a ticket it says "Failed to update" But if you refresh the browser it does actually close it, But none of the alerts are going into the timeline, everything stays at 0,

The Health Center is also closing alerts automatically. If you reopen it, it closes it again.

For some reason half the computers in our organization will not take this patch.
Patch is suppose to update the %systemroot%\system32\wmphoto.dll file to Version: 6.2.9200.17254.

All indications show that the patch is successfully installed.
I can go to Program & Features view installed updates and see its there. Remove it/uninstall no problem.
Windowsupdate.log says patch installs. Dll just will not update.

Not setup to connect to the internet to do windows update. All patches are pushed via SCCM.
Manual install will not work either.

All computers are WIN 7 SP1.

Anyone experience/seen anything like this?

Answer:MS15-029 Microsoft Windows Graphics Components Information Disclosure

I can't help thinking that the KB article is in error here - neither 6.2.9200.x file exists on my machine, and the version number is one for Windows 8.x anyhow.

I'd ignore it and move on.

[edit] I checked the actual updates for both x86 and x64 versions - and neither contained any v6.2.x.y files at all [/edit]

Small town boy reboots Microsoft

GC Shekhar

Chennai,*August 6, 2006

He'd wanted to be the next Dhanraj Pillai, but the vista that destiny opened up for A Mahesh led to greener pastures in the world of technology.
The 24-year-old from small town Tamil Nadu has created a software that will add considerable muscle to Vista, Microsoft's brand new operating system due for launch next year.
In all probability, Vista will incorporate Mahesh's creation, which is an image browser, image editor, web browser, system tools and disk manager rolled into one.
In fact, Microsoft has already validated and awarded the product BETA2 iBRO.NET a patent protection certificate.
This means anyone may make use of Mahesh's product using the validation key but would need to pay Microsoft a royalty a part of which would reach this shy lad from Palayamkottai in southern Tamil Nadu.
The first member of his family to reach the post-graduate level, Mahesh developed the BETA2 iBRO.NET as the fifth-year project for his integrated M Sc course in computer science. He chose Vista's developer platform, where individuals are invited to contribute features for Vista.
"For sheer conceptualisation and acumen, his creation shows enormous scope and maturity. It's a full fledged tool that would not only remove deficiencies in Vista but add never-seen features in the OS," explained Dr Krishnan, professo... Read more

Hi all,

this is a follow up on my last thread on removing the info from showing on the print view of my report. I was able to do that using an if/else statement as OBP suggested (Thanks! ), but is it normal for the information to still show on my report view.

The code I used to remove it from the print view is as follow:

If IsNull (Me.[Employee_Email]) Then
Me.Label1.Visible = False
Me.Label1.Visible = True
End If

Do I need to add anything else to the code to remove it from the report view as well. The information needs to show only when there is something to show and stay balnk otherwise.

Thanks for the help.

I need a little help with something that seems simple. I am using Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit. I have changed the columns in Details view in a folder. However Windows is not populating those columns, so what am I missing? This holds true on both my network drives and my local drives, so I checked my indexing options and they are set to index my local drives, so I assumed that should have at least worked. Any help would be very much appreciated.

For Windows 7, is there a list of the 'Details' available in the Windows Explorer folder view called 'Details' which has an explanation for each of them? Most of them are simple but some leave me scratching my head.

Answer:explanation of 'Details' in Windows Explorer 'Details' view

The "Details" which are available are those you see when a list of files is in "Details" view (as opposed to "Icons" or "Tiles" views. In "Details" view, depending on which column categories you have enabled, you are shown such things as filesize, file-date, filetype etc. If you then right-click any column header, you can choose to hide or show more information columns.I can't see how any of that can leave you scratching your head as it's no different to previous versions of Windows in that respect.

I didn't build this database (and wouldn't have set it up this way personally!) but have been tasked with expanding it.
I have a table for Events and also recommendations from these events - so each event has a set of recommendations. My boss didn't want me to add any additional tables (as I also needed to add Partners), personally I would have added a Partner Table too! Each Partner can have a number of events, and in turn each event can have a number of recommendations.
If the recommendation has been met, I flag it with a date - so that it doesn't show up on the report - this part IS working fine, However, where I have one Partner who has more than one event - the recommendations are being amalgamated, this is in spite of setting up grouping.
I've checked relationships, Primary Keys, and have gone onto properties within the report 'not keeping everything together as suggested on another thread. This hasn't worked.
It's not duplicating information, but not putting it into a specific group order. It's got my head battered !! I've sorted all other problems out, but this one is really bugging me ha ha ! Thanks

saying that they represent Microsoft and that I have sent error messages and they will help me fix the problems. Then they start asking details which I refuse to supply.
Have any of you had similar calls?
Also how do they know my phone number as Microsoft don`t as far as I know.
Seems like some kind of scam to me, what do you think?

I did a search of my hard-drive today looking for files which had been modified today (by searching for datemodified:today), I do this sometimes, anyway, one of the things which came up was a file called Microsoft-Windows-Application-Experience%4Program-Telemetry.evtx . I wondered what this was so took a look at it, it opens a thing in event viewer which then shows within it a list of "information" events (that is events classed as "information" rather than "error"s or "critical" bugs). The "source" for ALL these events is "Application-Experience", their dates and times go right back to when the computer was new. They all have "general" descriptions reading :"Compatibility fix applied to C:\[path of an exe file]Fix information:[program name], {[code of numbers and letters with some dashes separating them]}, 0X{some other number]"The "details" "xml view" then shows some more information including precise times, "event IDs", "threadIDs", the "name" of my computer, a "channel", a "security userID", a "processID", a "fixID", a start time, "flags", the file's path and two microsoft URLs.It doesn't do this for every program but there are a lot for ms office programs, a lot for 7z and there seems to be one for every time I run vlc media player akong with a few relating to avast antivirus. What is this log about, is this just data being collected or is it being sent to microsoft? Answer:How much telemetry is collected by windows 8.1? something odd I noticed

CEIP has been around for years and only collects data about Microsoft products and some third party apps that connect with Microsoft products.  It has no user identifiable information in it.  You can opt out though it appears the data is still collected just in case you ever opt in.  Since June it seems like several of the updates have enabled privacy settings that were initially not allowed by the user so you need to check any settings you set limiting what Microsoft has access to.
It is interesting to note that Microsoft in update KB3080149 included the statement "Reduces the network connections on a Windows system that doesn’t participate in the Customer Experience Improvement Program (CEIP)."
So by not participating you are being 'punished'.
There are other updates that add telelmetry to consent.exe and also add additional diagnostic and telemetry data collection.  They say they are just collecting metadata, which is the same data the NSA claims to be collecting.  The question is does using the same term mean the same thing.  Privacy in Windows today is questionable.

Hi, I just re-installed windows 7 on my desktop pc and have a question about the settings of the details pane in windows explorer (the one that appears and the bottom when you select a file). Previously when I selected video files (.mp4, .avi and .mkv) I would get the details at the bottom, the video frame width and height, size of file etc.. but since I reinstalled I don't get these details when I select video files. I know its only a small problem but I work with video files a lot and have gotten used to seeing the resolution of files without having to open them. Does anyone know how I can get the details pane to show these details again? At the moment it only displays the video size, name and state.

Here is a screen-shot of the details pane for a selected .mkv video file on my laptop, this is what I want it to display on my pc.

Answer:Solved: Windows explorer details pane for videos problem

Is the folder set as a "Video" type?
Look at the properties of the folder, and there you will see a drop down list for the type.

I currently use a e-mail address to log in to my Microsoft account. I have created a new e-mail account and I want to use that as my Microsoft account login (I will eventually close the e-mail as there is too much downtime).

When I go to "Your Info" and then "Manage how you sign in to Microsoft", I click on "Add E-Mail" and I have 2 options 1) Create a new email address and add it as an alias and 2) Add an existing email address as a Microsoft account alias****************

When I click on option 2 and enter my e-mail address, I get an error which says "This email address is already taken. Please try another."

I posted in Microsoft Community and got a reply that I should contact their Answer Desk. I made contact and gave the above information. The assistant gave me instructions on how to create a "New" account (something I did not ask for). When I pointed this out, the assistant said that if he could have access to my computer, then he could resolve. I said no and asked for a step-by-step.

A new breed of hackers use a combination between computer viruses and phone calls to make unsuspecting victims give up their bank details, making them believe they are paying to renew a software license.

According to the Richmond and Twickenham Times, one of the victims is a 63-year-old woman from Hampton who found the screen of her PC filled with error messages.

Moments later she received a phone call from what seemed to be a representative of Microsoft Help and Support.

?It is a very good scam. I had error messages coming up on my screen three times before and then I had a call from Microsoft care support. I thought about it but then I just felt ?would a hacker really phone me??,? she revealed.

?The man said he needed to check my software, so I let him have access to the computer. I was a bit worried but the Microsoft logo came up and it looked authentic,? she continued.

The hacker informed the woman she needed to pay a sum of money to renew her software license which has expired.

Cautiously, she told him that she needed to think about it and asked for a phone number to later contact the representative. That's when the cybercriminal got mad and threatened the woman that she would be blacklisted if she refused to pay. Meanwhile, the hackers froze the device in an attempt to intimidate her.

The senior citizen panicked and shutdown the computer to prevent the possible theft of a bank statement present on the hard drive. As a precaution, she changed all ... Read more

I believe I have found a bug in Windows 7 which makes high DPI (150%) virtually unusable, how do I report this bug to Microsoft?

Also could someone else test this on their Windows 7 to see if it is just my setup or maybe an NVidia bug.

Here are the steps to repeat the bug.
Ensure you are running Aero
Go to Display->Change DPI to 150%
Log Off->Log On
Open a non DPI aware program such as Itunes, Spotify, Vuze, VLC, Chrome (NOT FireFox, Explorer, Outlook)
Try to drag the window around or resize the window
When I do this on a clean install of Win 7 Home Premium (64bit) with all latest drivers/updates I get very unstable mouse flicker as shown here.

I have reported the bug to NVidia here with of course no reply but I want to find out from ATI users whether it affects their machines.

I even emailed Steven Sinofsky (President of Windows) and he said "its something your end" which made me laugh, at least he replied I guess.. more than I was expecting.

Anyway all help appreciated I really want to be able use Win7 on my projector, many thanks. if it is not present on ATI I will buy one tomorrow!

Answer:How do I report a bug with high DPI to Microsoft?

Nope, don't get what's shown in the video. Maybe a problem with your graphic card drivers, or may even be a problem with your mouse drivers for that matter, if you're using a specific mouse and it's drivers. Maybe even slow performance of hardware having an effect? Couldn't really say, just testing it, didn't have the problem.

Hi Everyone,

I'm new here so please forgive the green around my ears.

For the past while, I've been getting an error report pop-up regarding .NET Framework. It happens approximately 20min after starting my computer.

The pop-up states:

you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and
attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will
close immediately.

Now, there doesn't seem to be any critical effect of this error. Whether I choose Quit or Continue doesn't have any overt effect. However, it can't be a good thing and it's very annoying. Some help with this would be very much appreciated!

It was a black screen that said "Warning your computer is in danger". So I was reading from this forum and it said to us a program called Freeclean. I used freeclean and it got rid of the black screen. I will also mention that I installed Norton Internet Security before to try to get rid of the black screen. Now when I try to launch IE, it will not open and wants to send an error report to Microsoft. If anybody has the solution to this problem that would be a great help.

We really don't like Norton Internet Security because of stability problems. Try removing that program first. Restart and see if Internet Explorer will work. If not, we will look into other methods.

OK: I've been using Microsoft Access for a while. No training, mind you. But I don't seem to find any reference to being able to designate a field as a running sum. As in: I'm showing (with the data already in the report) inventory stock beginning balance, followed by DATED sales and purchases ... having a running total column would make all that data worthwhile so I can place an order that will STOP any items from going negative. I tried to do this for another purpose last year, and had no luck at all. This time I figured I'd ask some professionals.

Answer:Running Sum in Microsoft Access Report

When you're doing your report and you have your bound field on the report to the field in the database that you want to sum... you must right click on the field in the report and select properties..then select the data tab and select running sum on the bottom. Either for group or overall. If you use group it will total for that header group. If you choose overall, it will do it for the entire report.

Microsoft has recently released its latest Security Intelligence Report (SIR) which details, among other things, rates of malware infections across the various Windows operating systems. The report is entirely security related and not meant specifically as a vessel to encourage XP users to upgrade. However, that certainly is a side effect, unintentional or not ? many of the report?s findings do suggest that an immediate upgrade might be a prudent move for XP users.

On the surface at least, these statistics tend to confirm that users who went looking for possible malware via MSRT were 5.7 times more likely to find infections on XP than on Windows 8. On the other hand, MSRT has never been a broad spectrum anti-malware tool, mainly dealing with only the most commonly encountered malware families. As such, it could be argued that MSRT has perhaps developed a bias toward XP related malware in general, and the infection rate statistics shown may merely represent the level of MSRT?s effectiveness per Windows version.Click to expand...

Hi there,

I am working on a database in Access 2010.

I am trying to create a report that appears once a specific combo box is filled out for a particular field in the form I am working in. Basically, when a value is put in the combo box, the combo box will filter the form for all the records that match the criteria in the combo box. The filtered records should then populate into the report that appears.

The reason why I need this report is because I would like to be able to view all the of the particular records and be able to sort for various fields more efficiently.

Can anyone help?
If you can solve this I would really appreciate it!

Answer:Microsoft Access 2010 - Report Help II

You cannot sort a report once it is presented. You can easily set the report criteria to use the combo box value on the report. Just create a query that runs the way you want it with all of the fields you want to be presented in the report along with the combo box value. Set the combo box filed to be the criteria for this query and then base the report off of this query.

The German computer magazine CT...analyzed the new WGA Notification that is installed during Windows Update. They decided to cancel the installation and immediately after doing so the firewall reported that update.exe tried to connect to the internet. They used Wireshark to analyze the traffic and found out that update.exe sends data to sends registry information, namely the SusClientID as well as information about the version of the WGA tool, the windows version and the language of the operating system. It also sets a cookie which contains a GUID which could possibly be used to identify the computer...Microsoft confirmed...that data is send but it would only be used to optimize the

Yeah right.. Like M$ ever does anything to optimize the system..
I would be curious if standard cleaning methods were used that cookie would be removed or still stay

There are expressions to display the time and date in a report. Is there a way to link a text box in a report so that it displays the name of a table? If not, is there any other way to display the name of a table automatically in a report.

Answer:Microsoft Access - Displaying the name of a table in a report.

Depends what you mean. If it's the underlying table or query on which the report is based, sure. Just set a text box's control source to "=[RecordSource]" (without the quotation marks, of course). Retrieving any other name, however, including names of tables that may be included in a record source, would be a little trickier.

Please let us know if this does what you're looking for.

Hi.I have a Dell Precision Workstatioin T5400 with a 2.33 Gig Xeon processor, 3 gig of ram running windows xp service pack 3 and on an small business server exchange network. I reboot my computer when I leave at night and every day when I come in I have an error message. I have updates that won't install and I am not sure why:Here is the error message and the details:this is the message i get about the updates:Can anyone tell me what I need to do to stop these issues. Are they related? Thanks.

Answer:Microsoft Error Report - Updates won't install

VisualStudio relies on MS.NET...either/both could be damaged.

If I still had MS.NET 1.1 on my systems...I would uninstall it and replace with Version 3.5, SP1...and see if it clicks.

Damaged programs are normally overcome by removing them via Add/Remove Programs...and then reinstalling them.

How do you report a phishing site with Microsoft Edge?
You can open the site from Edge Settings with IE11 then in IE11 use safety / smart screen, but within edge I do not see a way of reporting the site directly from the edge browser.

My son says you are the best for troubleshooting, so here goes. I have a Toshiba laptop wireless and all the programs came pre-installed with a Recovery disk ONLY included. I have Windows XP Home Edition. My problem is with the Microsoft Works 8.0 Calendar, which was pre-installed along with Microsoft Office S&T Edition, which I do not use. The Calendar was working fine until yesterday and now I get an error message that just says "Microsoft has encountered a problem and needs to close." Then I can choose whether or not to send an error report, which I have....several times. I've read the "official" Microsoft version of the fix, but it is telling me that I possibly have a corrupted file and to reinstall it from the Works CD, which I do not have. When I run the recovery CD, there is no Microsoft Works listed in programs to recover. I'm really at a loss! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much!! MomM

Everytime I right click on my C drive icon in My Computer, in order to run a scan or defrag I get a Microsoft Error Report - send or dont send makes nop difference. Then the screen freezes and the only way out is to call up task manager and end the task "My Computer" which is not responding. If I try to drag the task manager Box I get a massive amount of boxes appearing in a line. Sometimes I have to reboot or it unfreezes after a few minutes.
Weird this.

Ideas anyone. I have run CCleaner to no affect.

By John SoatInformationWeekDec 11, 2006 12:00 AMI recently came into possession of a manuscript called the Vista Study Group Report. Don't ask me how I got it: Let's just say it involved a parking garage, a cigarette-smoking man, and a code name inspired by a Robert Redford movie. The Vista Study Group Report is a brutally honest assessment of Microsoft's marketing campaign for Windows Vista. It was solicited by Bill Gates, who is otherwise occupied, and written by a bipartisan committee of experts, including several former Microsoft executives, a retired engineer on the original IBM PC project, a federal prosecutor, a spammer, and a part-time salesman at Best Buy named Larry. The report features an executive summary and a list of 79 recommendations.

I have Windows Live Care installed and use it for my anti-virus and Firewall. My yearly subscription is coming due on August 17th, 09.

I have read that Microsoft will be offering a similar security program for free and doing away with Live Care.. From what I have read it has been released in beta form.

I have been trying to find information regarding when it will be available for release in it's final form. When I Google the subject all I come up with is very old information.

Obviously I do not want to pay for another year of One Care if Morro is soon to be released.

Anyone have any up to date information ?

I was also wondering if anyone here is using the beta version of Morro ?

If so, what do you think about it ?

Thanks for your time.

Answer:Any Information About Microsoft's Morro Security

The beta version of Microsoft Security Essentials, code-name Morro. A free program that fights viruses and spyware, is now available for
download but at this time, they are not accepting any participants from the Microsoft site. There are sites where anyone can download it by just surfing the net properly to find those sites.

Installation is easy but you should have a genuine copy of Windows. I tested it on Windows XP and was quite impressed with it until now.

Have a great day.
