I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Yoga 910 battery only works 4 hours in energy saving mode

I have the UHD screen, which apparently takes more power, but I get 5 to 6 hours of work. Inerestingly watching movies uses the same power.A big factor I find is how high the screen brightness is, but yours does seem to be really low. Here is my estimate from the battery report Since OS install 6:04:30 Run a battery report by following this https://www.windowscentral.com/generate-battery-report-windows-10

Energy Management will not let me change from "Maximum Battery Life" to "Optimized Battery Health".  If I click the radio, it will reset back to "Maximum Battery Life". This just happened this morning, no software was installed.I've tried:Reinstalling the Energy Management.Remove the battery ACPI driver and letting it reinstall. This is super frustrating that now I'm capped at 60% charge. I've spent an hour googling around and nothing comes up. Anyone have this problem and know why this wonderful piece of software is fixated now on 60% charge? [EDIT]More info.  I unplugged and set to maximum performance.  After 20-30 minutes the meter still shows 60% and I get nothing that indicates how many minutes are left on the charge.  I just had it the other night before shutting down for the evening. Something is wrong in the power management control... I can't change charge modes, no meter update, or time prediction. [EDIT 2]So I turned off the computer, searching for the button to discharge the MB.  Couldn't find it.  Did the 10-sec hold power button.  Then I just started again after about 10-15 minutes off and it fixed itself.  Not sure what cause the battery to malfunction but I hope it's not a sign of a charging/battery hardware failing...

I have tried to connect two different monitors to a CPU. A LG Flatron L1915S that just goes into power saving mode when started and a Samsung syncmaster 225bw that gives a message "check cable".

Both monitors work on other CPUs. The current CPU does not have a VGA connection. With an adaptor I can connect a VGA or a DVI cable (Flatron only have VGA possibility).

I guess the problem is in the CPU but how can I troubble-shoot? Is it the graphics card (how do I check that?) or can I somehow adjust the monitors to accept the signal from the CPU?

Answer:Screen goes into energy saving mode when connected

Can you give some more info about what you are using?
Is your PC a known make and model, or is it built up by you?
Both of your monitors are telling you that they are not getting any input, in different ways, and I am guessing you are using a separate Graphic card in an AGP or PCI-express slot on the motherboard.
You say your PC does not have a VGA output, so you only have a choice of one Graphic card, and socket.
So in that case, you have to try it in another pc, OR get a different card to try in your pc.
Can you say if your card has worked before? In your PC or a different one?

Hi everybody,
I have few questions to ask you:
When I put windows 8 in energy saving mode, animations became much slower (for example: the app mail didn't show me the box the pointer was on immediately and it took so much time to open the email). When I changed to balanced, the problem disappeared. How can I change the energy saving mode in a way thatthe problem will disappear?i have reinstalled windows yesterday. I asked a friend of mine to reinstall the dirivers because I'm not able to install them. The touchpas seems to not work correctly, but on my win7 (i have a dual-boot) it works perfectly. What have I to do?A curiosity: where do the windows updates are saved before installing if I chose to install them manually? Will they be automatically deleted when I install them or I have to do something special?

Thanks a lot for your answers and sorry for my bad English.

Ps: I'm going to update windows 8 to the 8.1 version. Who have tried it can tell me if it is better (or at the same level) of windows 8?

Balanced is best, as you've found out. If you want to save energy, turn the computer off when you walk away from it for an extended length of time. No matter if you put the computer to sleep, hibernate, there is a constant power drain (I don't know how much). If you use fast boot, even when you turn the computer off, there's still a (probably minute) power drain. We pay for these conveniences by higher power usage. I usually leave mine on all day and turn it off at night. Set the power button to turn it off and you can just press the power button for on/off.

Oh, and by the way, it doesn't make a difference to your computer hardware wise if you turn it on and off or leave it running all the time. The biggest problem with leaving it on all the time is energy usage. The biggest problem with turning it off and on is that you have to poke a button to do it. Your choice.

Hello, in the manual of the Beacon is written something about a sleep mode. In this mode the white power LED will flashing during the Beacon is in sleep mode. But it doesn't. Has the Beacon any real sleep (deep sleep) mode or is it only a mode where the HDDs were going sleep. Because the fan inside is running all the time. Is their any possibility to activate a kind of sleep mode where the HDDs and the fan will be going sleep/off? I want to save energy in the unused time. If the Beacon has such function, has the Beacon a WOL feature? Becasue in the settings it is possible to activate such an option. Thanks and best regards,Ingo

I recently did a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 after using RC 64 since this summer. Everything is working well, except instead of turning off when entering power saving mode, my monitor goes blank but stays backlit and the power light remains on. When the computer does then eventually enter full sleep mode, the monitor does turn off. Obviously not the end of the world, but an annoyance. Any ideas? I think the answer is that Win7 is checking or building your Hybernation file before it goes to sleep and the monitor/video card must think it is still running which it is.
When the Hybernation file is checked or whatever it dos itfinally goes to sleep.

Did I make any sense?
I personally turned my Hybernation mode off on my desktop. In my case it is just a waste of time and space.

Let me know what you think?

NOTE
I have turned mine totally off which speeded up my computer especially when I shut it down. I still can put it to sleep without an issue.
Here is the DOS command to turn it off.

Access CMD prompt using Run as Admin
powercfg -h off
Just cut and paste what I wrote above with the spaces

To turn it back on powercfg -h on

I removed battery, DVD room etc after doing many things don't know how I was able to turn on the laptop.  From today I am facing another problem. When I switch the Battery mode from Maximum to Optimize or vice versa my Laptop stops charging the battery and Laptop is turning off after discharge of full battery. I do same things after doing these things many time I become able to turn on laptop back. Now again my laptop is not charging battery because I changed the mode. Any Idea how to fix this issue? Is there any easy way to enable charging and disable charging? Like Dell utility? My OS details.: Windows 8.1 Pro

dear forum, my W500 is now about 2 months old (vista ultimate 64bit, 8gb ram). for about 2 weeks now, it started having difficulties going into energy saving mode. normally, it sounds a single beep about 10 seconds after closing the lid to signal it successfully reached energy saving mode. then the alf moon lights up. opening the screen again, it comes back to life within seconds. if the problem occurs, there is no beep, no half moon. instead all lights keep on blinking and there is heavy disk action going on. when i open the screen again, it is black (system still working though) and i need a hard reset to regain access. any ideas what is causing this behaviour? thanks!martin

I was adjusting the different settings in energy manager try to get a better way to charge/discharge the battery. I turned on the "conservation mode" in the settings, suddenly the software told me that the battery is unauthorized and need to be replaced. I toggled off "conservation mode" and restarted sevral times, everytime the computer started, the warning message will pop up saying the battery is unauthorized. I uninstalled energy manager and found the latest version on lenovo support website and installed it. But it still cannot recognize my battery. The warning message keeps pop up every time I start the computer.Could anyone help me with this issue? Thanks.

I have installed the latest version of Lenovo Energy Management software.According to the article https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/How-to-change-battery-charge-settings-in-Wind... there are registry parameters "ChargeStartControl, ChargeStartPercentage, ChargeStopControl, ChargeStopPercentage"  to control the battery charge settings. Nevertheless in the registry no "Lenovo Power Management" path exists. Is there any other location / key and value to change the default battery charge settings?

I am on a power saver mode and have disabled sleep. Is this the 9 hours Lenovo advertised? or should I send it in? Can someone from Lenovo and also folks who just bought one in the last month, share your experiences. I just have a few questions about how conservation mode and express charging work. These two are located in Energy Manager under settings. Conservation mode keeps the battery percent at 55-60%. How is this done? Does the computer discharge until 55% and then charge back up to 60%? Also, if the computer is off, but the AC adapter is left in, will the computer still remain between 55 and 60%? Are there any detrimental effects on the battery? Express charging allows the computer to be fully charged in 100 minutes. How is this done? Why is this feature not enabled by default? Are there any detrimental effects on the battery? Thank you!

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro Energy Manager: Conservation Mode and Express Charging

Read a few articles on how to treat a battery properly. This I found a decent article.http://gizmodo.com/how-to-take-care-of-your-smartphone-battery-the-right-w-513217256If the computer is turned off, your laptop will still remain between 55 and 60%.Express charging generates excessive heat, can make the battery die slightly faster. It's done by allowing more current to flow to the battery. But generally the more you keep your battery cool, the longer it will live. There are plenty of articles like the one above on Google some are more brief, some are more in-depth and more difficult to understand.

Yoga 13 has a 4-cell 54Wh 3700 mAh battery. Mine laptop is less than 3 months old, and it never ever was working without a power supply more than 3 hours and 30 minutes. Usually I set the "Balanced" plan, as I'm only browsing and developing some web staff. No porn, no games. Tell me please, how can it work "up to 8 hrs"?Is 3 1/2 hrs instead of 8 a reason to return the device?

Answer:Yoga 13 battery life 3 hours

On my Yoga 2 13, I use the Power Saver power option.  This forces passive cooling and uses CPU throttling.  You can tell because the cooling fan rarely kicks on.  I also turned off the auto brightness feature.  I keep the brightness at less than 50 percent.  My CPU usage at idle sits at about 1 percent except when the antimalware process is running.  I disabled a few tasks to cut the CPU usage. This may or may not be possible for your Yoga 13 but my Yoga 2 13 came with a 500GB SSHD and an empty M.2 SSD slot.   I put a Crucial M550 M.2 type 2280 128GB SSD card in that slot and cloned the HD to the SSD drive.  It now boots from the SSD and gives me an additional hour of light usage plus I see a max 550MB/sec read speed and a max 370MB/sec write speed.

I get around a couple of minutes of use for every percent of battery with the screen brightness set one below the mid range setting. It's less than half what the 'guide' in the system tray reckons I should get at any point in time. This is simply reading a page in IE, or browsing. I'm in balanced mode but it doesn't make much difference. I lost 20% overnight while it was asleep. Task Manager shows no surprises - I can't see any process responsible. I calibrated it the other night after it went from 40% to drained in a couple of minutes. It's for a similar reason that I returned a Nexus 9 (though it also ran intolerably hot). What can I try before logging it with support? Are there any key diagnostic utilities I should look at and what evidence would lenovo need?

Answer:Yoga Pro 3 - battery life < 4 hours

I suspect the CPU usage is the one that causes your battery life. Check to see how much CPU usage you're using while doing your daily tasks. I also don't recommend performing a battery calibration on a brand new battery since it reduces battery "shelf" life significantly. Also, don't make the laptop sleep if you're leaving it off overnight as it uses connected standby which reduces battery runtime significantly. Shutting it down should not consume battery of only 1% of the battery.

The charger, because it's not a 3 pin, is pretty annoying since it gets loose anyway. I just got the laptop around 12 hours ago, and put it on charge, which slowly downloading the Windows 10 upgrade. OKO Cared stopped saying it was charging when the battery reached around 87%, but I noticed it was still going up. So, I left the the laptop on charge and downloading Windows 10 overnight. I just woke up, and it has somehow managed to (fully) damage its battery, and shuts off immediately on removing power. Again, it's a new laptop first used 12 hours ago.

I've recently bought a Lenovo Yoga 720 13IKB, considering the battery as one of its biggest pros due to some reviews and adds I read in the Internet. Unfortunately, even after a 100% charge, I can't get no longer than 4h30 / 5 h of battery lifetime prediction / battery lifetime.  I have already decreased brightness, I almost have no apps running in background, but unfortunately it doesn't gets better. The situation is even worse considering that I'm not doing anything but surfing online, texting in word or taking a look at some pictures in Windows Gallery. Have anyone experienced the same problem? Can someone please help me? Is that true that we can get 10h30 (or a bit less, I wouldn't care) like it was advertised or that was just a commercial bait? Thanks in advance!

Hi guys, I've had my Yoga 900 since December 2015 and I enjoy this ultrabook.  I am concerned about the battery life though. The specs say up to 9 hours of battery life, but based on my usage I would have to say that I am only confident of 6 hours worth of charge. My typical use is as follows: 1) Approximately 75% screen brightness (225 nits)2) Combo of WiFi with multiple Google Chrome tabs open, video and music usage mixed in my typical day. Those of you with the Yoga 900, would you say that this is normal or typical? Thanks, Nik

Hi all,

Tried to give all the info in the subject. Here are the details. :)

It's an old HP ZD7380US, it's been stored and unused for the last 4 years. A week ago, I decided to bring it back to life as a media center.

Formatted it, reinstalled XP MCE2005, always plugged. At a certain time, I decided to move with the laptop, and wondering how the battery was on it, I decided to take the plug off. I was working in safe mode, and it lasted 2.5 hours. I was really surprised.

But I was even more surprised when, the day after, I decided to move with it in regular mode. After 2mn, it alerted me the battery was low, and after another minute, it hibernated.

Both experiences have been repeated with the same result...

Any idea?

Thanks,

Simo

Answer:My new ThinkPad Yoga comes with 3 power-saving modes. Which gives best battery life?

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

A power plan contains both the hardware and system settings that influence your computer?s power management. The main changes made by Windows when selecting a power plan are regarding the screen brightness, the time until the display is dimmed and then turn off, and the time until your computer is put to sleep. These changes are also different depending on whether your computer is using the battery or it is plugged in to a power supply.

The ?Power Saver? and ?Energy saver? plan significantly reduces your processor?s clock speed and display brightness with the intention of increasing battery life. ?High Performance? sets clock speed to its maximum value and screen brightness to maximum level but it reduces the battery backup. ?Balanced? changes the clock speed based on demand by your running applications, with an optimal drain of battery.

You can also create custom power plans depending on your requirement within Windows. Usually, power saver mode is preferred while on battery to extend the battery runtime.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Using new laptop last night an the battery went below 20% and battery saving mode was triggered.  Threw it on the charger and continued using it as normal. This morning I went to use it on its fully charged battery and saw it was in power saving mode still.  Try to turn battery saving mode off through the battery icon on the start bar but it will not turn off. Going into battery saving mode settings and unchecking the check box that says stay in battery saving mode until next charge also will not take it out of battery saving mode. Tried restarting laptop while on battery, while plugged in, charging to 100% and restarting both on battery and plugged in, no change.  All drivers including bios have been updated a few days ago.  Any suggestions?
Thank you

I have updated all of my drivers from the Lenovo Yoga 13" site.  I read on here to pay special attention to the Synaptics driver, mine is 16.2.21.4 from Synaptics.  When I flip in to tablet mode my mouse moves around when I touch it.  Also the F6's "disable touchpad" doesnt work.  Its really annoying to not be able to use it as intended.  Anyone have a fix for this?

Answer:Yoga 13" - Touch Pad not disabled in tablet mode/F6 No longer works.

hi OmegaNine,

Sorry to hear what happened,

1. Can we Try this,
Go to Control Panel / Programs and features/ uninstall a program
Look for the Synaptics Software, Uninstall it there.

2. Go to Device Manager and look under "mice and game controllers" and make sure it does not say Synaptics there.
If it Does Uninstall it as well and put a check on the box if it asked "delete driver software"

If the system did not asked you for a restart, Restart the system Manually.

Open Device Manager again and open the category Sensor
  like on this photo
     http://www.codeproject.com/KB/system/wiisensor/wiisensor11.png
Uninstall everything under Sensors but DO NOT put a check on the delete driver Software.

Restart

Download and install this driver
Synaptics TouchPad Driver for 64-bit WindowsRestart after installation and Check if You still have the Issue.

Hope this helps
Cheers!!

Hello, I've owned my Yoga Pro 2 since it hit the market and have been satisfied until now.  I tried starting it this morning and there was no response except for the white circle next to the power button being illuminated.  I tried holding down the power button for ten seconds to restart: nothing on the screen.  I tried holding down the power button for 90 seconds (per research on others' successful attempts online): the white illuminated circle next to the power button illuminates to orange for about 3 seconds and then back to an illuminated white circle with nothing on the screen. The next thing I tried was plugging it into another outlet with no changes.  Finally, I tried starting it in tablet mode and it booted up. After booting up, I immediately made a backup onto an external HD as the touch screen worked and I was able to use it as a tablet.  Next, I tried to see if any other modes worked (e.g. tent, desktop, etc.) and after lifting the screen to transition less than 1/2 an inch, the screen would immediately turn black with keyboard and power buttons being ineffective.  Upon returning to tablet mode, I pushed the windows home logo on the screen and the screen popped into life.  I was able to use it in tablet mode again. Repeated attempts to return to transition to other modes resulted in a black screen after reaching the 1/2 inch mark.  Is this a wiring/hardward thing or is it a software fix?  I've uninstalled ... When I put it on battery saving mode it drains faster, or it indicates a shorter battery life time.

I have a HP DV6 7000 laptop. Battery charging only works when lid is closed (sleep mode). If I close the lid and plug in the charger, the indicator light shows orange, and the battery will then proceed to charge to near full. If I open the lid prior to the orange light changing to white, the battery icon always says: __% available (plugged in, not charging). Several different chargers give identical outcomes. ALL of them will fully charge the battery in about two hours; provided that, the lid is kept closed. If I open the lid, even at say 50% charge, the orange light switches to white, and the battery icon always says: __% available (plugged in, not charging). Thanks, Ed.

Hi @ElyMayor   Thank you for your reply. The last thing I can suggest trying is a restore back to factory.  Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 7) While doing the recovery there is an option to backup your personal files. If you have not previously done one now is a good time. Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows 7) You can also contact HP support for assistance. The hardware on my one month old Yoga 910-13IKB (Windows 10 Pro ver. 1703) is now stuck in what seems like tablet mode:The built-in keyboard does not work anymoreThe touchpad does not work anymoreThe screen is stuck in landscape mode and does not rotate when the laptop is in tent modeThe speakers are stuck with the awful tablet-mode sound qualityWhen I boot to the BIOS, the keyboard works with no issue. However, when the OS boots, it almost instantly switches to the previously described mode. If I spam the keyboard as the laptop boots, it briefly works (I can type 3-4 letters on the log in screen) and then instantly stops working. Things I have already attempted:Looking for an answer onlineRebooting the laptop multiple timesTurning the laptop off and then turning it on againUpdating the drivers (+ reboot)Reinstalling Yoga Mode Control (+ reboot)Opening/closing the lid from its closed state to the tablet state and everything in betweenThings I am reticent to do:Since this is a brand new machine, I do not feel comfortable fiddling with the actual hardware (i.e. opening it to remove a battery to do a hard reset)Suspected source of the issue:I think this has to do with the laptop believing that it's being booted while the hardware is in tablet mode (screen rotated all the way open) although it isn't. I am severely disappointed in how finicky this laptop is for the price...Thank you for any help

Been using my yoga 3 pro for a about a couple weeks now and have had trouble with occasional battery drain overnight while in sleep mode. I will close the lid to put it to sleep, verify from the blinking power button that it's actually asleep, and then leave it overnight or longer.  Sometimes the battery level is almost the same as when it went to sleep, but sometimes it's completely dead.  It's like it's waking up on its own at some point and not going back to sleep.  But I've never caught it in the act.  And I've always put it to sleep with plenty of battery. My power settings are set to sleep after 15 min on battery.  I can't find anything else in the settings that would wake it up (no wake timers, etc), and my wireless adapter in device manager is not checked to allow it to wake the laptop.  I've seen threads about this for the Y2P, but those didn't fix mine.  Anyone else encountered this issue?

Answer:Yoga 3 Pro battery drain while in sleep mode

Hi curdog,Can you check in the Lenovo Energy Management if the USB charging is disabled? Also can you try closing all your applications before putting it to sleep and leaving it differently and see if some of the apps have gone "rogue" causing it not to "deep sleep".Thanks

I have a new Yoga 2 Pro with i7 processor. It works great and normal battery life is about 4-5 hours. But with a fully charged battery, i can close the lid at night triggering sleep mode, and wake up to an almost dead battery. Why is this happening? It's really dissapointing and I'm going to return it if I can't find a fix. I'm on the latest BIOS with all current updates. I am not using Hibernate mode. Closing the lid shoud not cause battery to continue to drain at normal usage rates. I'm hoping it's the WINDOWS 8 software but I've tried all the settings I can find.

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro Draining Battery Fast in Sleep Mode

Probably because your laptop isn't even going to sleep. Check the power light to see if it's solid or blinking. If it stays solid your laptop isn't sleeping. The sleep function on Yogas basically don't work at all.

Hi, I'm using laptop. And I'm looking how to minimize power usage.

I mean, minimal cpu power usage lowering voltage ant other on battery and AC.

Answer:Energy saving, how to?

UT8F,

First thing I would do is lower the brightness of the screen, this can save a lot of power. With regards to minimal CPU usage.. obviously just close whatever you aren't actually using.

If you are plugged into AC, none of this should really matter. If you are looking to save a few bucks, the laptop isn't the place to do it since its cheap in the first place to power (look into heating/air conditioning).

Finally, there is this little guide if you wanna get more technical

I usually use my Yoga 2 Pro with AC Adapter plugged in. I turn on Conversation mode in Lenovo Energy Manager and get a message of "Plug in - Not Charging" everytime the battery is already 60% charged. Does it mean that AC electricity will directly serve to run the laptop without going through the batttery like a desktop computer?
I'm worried this habit will ruin my battery lifetime.

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro - Does Plug in - Not Charging on Conversation Mode harm the battery?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Yes, when the charge level reaches 60% and you receive that message it means the battery is no longer receiving a charge and the laptop is being powered by the AC adapter.

No, using conservation mode will actually extend the health of your battery which means the battery will have a longer life time.   It is the continually charging when the battery's charge level reaches 100% level that will shorten the life of the battery.

I was thinking about selling my system.
My system spec is on the pull down. Tell me what you think i will sell for.

The hard drive will be US DoD Formatted.

Now..

To replace the system.

I need to know a better specification.

Small case ( If possible, uses the 2.5 inch or less hard drive.
uses approx 150 ~350W power
CPU and motherboard, strong enough to support any steam games ( CS:S, CS1.6, DoD:S, TF2) and Soldier of Fortune 2 [Low voltage]

Don't worry about the hard drive - i can order the new slim Seagate Hard drive. They uses much less power.

I want to build this and keep this for my family usage. I don't like the idea to go out and buy some stupid computer like dell.

sorry for rant, but you will have my karma!

Also have a Hardware Firewall/routerQ.  Since installing the hardware Firewall, when I hibernate for the night only some of the green LED lights go off on the Firewall. And all the green and activity lights STAY ON on the Modem.  To me, this means that I am not completely shutting down and therefore NOT saving energy.  As my ssystem is connected to a Surge Protector, would it be better to shut off at this level?                                          EdmundoR

If the modem is on you are using energy. If the computer is on you are using energy, though less with hibernation. To be the most energy efficient, you would shut both items down.

I am a proud 5 year owner of a Thinkpad X220, which I still use.I purchased a X1 Carbon (non-yoga) 2015 model, I sent it back because it was having fuzzy text and lid closing issues. I close the lid, it sleeps. Open the lid, it beeps loudly and display does not resume, but keyboard lights on. I have to manually hold power button to shut down laptop. I turn it back on and it goes back to my windows I had open. I wish Lenovo would sell a Thinkpad X1 that when you close the laptop, it would sleep, and when you open the laptop it would resume, that would be awesome! Also, I had it in tablet mode, I put it in laptop mode, and the display remained in tablet mode. I had to go put it back in tablet mode and then back into laptop mode for it to show me the laptop display mode. #ridiculous Battery Life: It so variable. To help, I turn of my 3 screens, but still quite hot in here.

Any help appreciated

To be fair, I think with the amount of heat you're talking about, you might want to consider some air conditioning.

Answer:T60 screens goes blank for energy saving but won't return

I can't help you, but wanted to say that my T60 does the same thing and not only that, the screen sometimes will stay black after I open the top and not restore so that I have to close it again and reopen.  Today I had to do that twice before I got the login screen.  It is very annoying. Mine won't restore either when pushing any of the function buttons - always have to close it and reopen. Going to Lenovo is a big hassle - I do like that they have people who speak English - it just takes so long to get there. Hopefully, someone will have an answer in this forum.

Just got my W500 and am happy so far.  The only issue I have is that I when I used the switchable graphics menu to switch to "Energy Saving" mode, the W500 can't find the proper video driver for it.  I am using Windows XP, so after I rebooted to use the new video setting, I got a few messages indicating that the video adapter was not recognized.  I used the "ThinkVantage" button and updated the system to the latest drivers (just 1 or 2 of misc drivers needed to be updated), but there wasn't an update for the video adapter.  When I look at the Device Manager, it shows question marks with an explanation point next to the Video Controller entry, which is listed under "Other Devices" - indicating that it doesn't recognize the Video Controller. I found this article on switchable graphics which says that you need to download the intel drivers if you switch to "Energy Saving" mode, but the intel drivers to which the article is linked doesn't list the W500 as being a supported device.  Additionally, the intel drivers cannot be found by using the Support option and drilling down into the W500 page, and the Intel drivers are listed as N/A for the W500 here. So, where can I get the video driver necessary for my W500 to operate properly in "Energy Saving" mode using the switchable graphics option?  The main issue with not having the proper driver is that any movement of the screen (such as draging a window around) is REALLY... How many can you squeeze out of yours. I have stock installation with a 128GB msata card as my OS HDD and two WD 7200 RPM 750GB drives.  I have everything set to the most battery saving options and I cant get it below 15 watts. In fact most of the time its closer to 20watts. Screen set to level two, everything set to maximum power saving. HDs power down after 1 minute. I can barely sqeeze 5 hours of mine.  Is it the additional HDD? Anybody really getting 7+ hours of normal use?

Answer:How many hours of battery on your W520? I get 5 hours max...

Squeeze? I can squeeze about 11.5hrs out of it on minimum brightness with battery stretch enabled and just let it sit there.I can get like 8hrs+ (like 8.5hrs) out of it surfing the web with no Flash. Bring in Flash or some local videos or something, and it is closer to 6.5 ~ 7hrs. Pure Flash (i.e. YouTube) is like 6hrs. In reference, streaming a SD anime episode takes about 7% battery on my W520, so I can finish an entire season (defined as 13 episodes) + 1 episode before needing to find an outlet (yes, I have done this too). My idling power is around 10W now that I added another module of RAM (used to be more around 9.5W with 1 module) with screen brightness at 9 and performance set on balanced. 14.5W is what I normally see with H.264 playback (720p) and the only times I saw over 20W was when I was running Prime95, and when I accidentally left the hardware decoding on the Quadro 1000M. I only have a single Seagate 7200 RPM 320GB HDD, though. My HDD is set to power off after 5 or 10mins (not really sure).

Hello users,  can anyone point me where to find the energy management module, which I've read is usually found in the Lenovo companion..but its not there.  There used to be an optimized/performance mode for batteries. The thought is I want to limit the max charge % of battery, so that when left on extended plugged-in periods, the battery is kept in a storage type state.  Or, does this new laptop handle being plugged in more regularly with the newer battery technology? Issue I have is most if the software I run are fairly resource heavy on the laptop and I'm burning through battery quickly when unplugged.. Thanks!

it is probably to do with power management....... and the high temperature is suggesting high CPU usage.... What background processes are running? Also does the battery lasts the same under performance and battery mode? Have you done a reformating of the laptop hdd (by recovering to the factory reinstall) recently???? I have seen a problem like this crawl up once in my T61 due to a virus/malware, but i don't know whether that is also the cause of your problem.

Currently the only version of Lenovo Energy Management shown on the support page is listed as approved for Windows 8/8.1. When will an updated version approved for Windows 10 be available?

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro: Energy Management for Windows 10

I found a partial answer to my original inquiry as follows: Download and install Lenovo Settings app from the Microsoft App Store. Some of the settings previously available in the Lenovo Energy Managemet software (e.g., conservation mode, express charging, always on USB) are now available using the Lenovo Settings app.

I've had my Yoga Pro 2 for less than a week and all of a sudden there is a little carousel ad for some called Energy Manager. It has taken focus of the interface and I can't get rid of it other than clicking th OK button. A little research indicates it's a Lenovo product, but what is it and why is it showing up now?

Answer:Ad for Energy Manager taken focus of my Yoga Pro 2

The most important feature about this program is that it increases yellow fidelity on the yoga 2 pro, provided you have the right bios update installed. Aside from that it just enables features like USB port charging while the computer is off and conservation mode to preserve battery life.

So I love my laptop, it is great, but I feel the battery is a lot less than advertised. I used it today to see how long it lasts on battery and it was about 5.5 hours instead of the 15 hours advertised. I have the T430 with discrete graphics, but I think it stays inactive unless I do something intensive. I was basically just browsing the internet, chatting, tweeting. I did have like 15-20 tabs open though. If it matters, I upgraded to 256 GB SSD, 16 GB RAM and moved 7200 RPM HDD to UltraBay. Is it possible i was sent the 6-cell battery instead of 9-cell? How do I check?

Answer:Battery only lasts 5.5 hours - possible they sent wrong battery?

Hi sens_adnan,

If you remove ther battery, on the left hand side is the lenovo logo.
Underneath is the part # for your battery.
If the part # is: 45N1007, then your battery is the 6-cell

I have a new Yoga 2 Pro and also have Outlook installed with two mail profiles defined. Whenever a reboot the machine I get a mail popup asking which profile I want to use. I have turned off the option in settings to use outlook so I'm not sure why this is still happening. I know it is energy manager because if I uninstall it it goes away. I need energy manager however for the yellow issue and the battery conservation mode. Any help is appreciated.

Answer:Energy Manager interface with Outlook on Yoga 2 Pro

I have a slightly different version of this problem.  I have a password set on my Outlook file.  When my PC boots, it asks me for my password, and it also asks for it every hour afterwards.  I have turned the setting for Outlook in Lenovo's Energy Manager set so that the little round circle is visible, but Energy Manager still apparently opens Outlook anyway! Could you (Lenovo) PLEASE change this behavior???  It's annoying! Edit, later in the day: I figured I'd call this into Lenovo.  After talking to a bunch of people on the phone, I ended up with a knowledgeable guy from Hardare Warranty Support who downgraded my Lenovo Energy Manager from 1.0.0.35 to 1.0.0.28.  Unfortunately, the problem still persisted.  Apparently, there is no procedure for reporting a problem in Lenovo software to Lenovo without having to pay for the privilege, and I eventually gave up in talking to Lenovo people on the phone. This company REALLY seems brain-dead to me.

Hi all, I'm running Windows 10 64-bit and while I have no issues, I have Lenovo Energy Manager installed. I'm wondering if I should keep it or if it is unnecessary with Windows 10? Is it helping me? It's version 1.0.1.51. Is there a newer version of this (even if not officially supporting Yoga 2 Pro) that is better?  Thanks.

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro (Core i7) - Windows 10 64-bit - Keep Energy Manager?

There are some things that it does that makes the PC run more efficient, I would keep it. Not necessary to keep it running, but definetely something great to have

Hi all,  This is my first time writing here, but I have been browsing through the forums for a few months and these helped me solving most of my issues. Kudos to you all. I recently upgraded my Yoga 2 pro to Win 10, and everything works smooth, except for the energy manager. When I open it I can use it in the basic mode with no issues at all (switching between energy modes works ok).   However, when I click the upper right button to show more settings, (mostly to change the charging plan for my battery and so) the program freezes, and does nothing but consuming about 20% of my CPU.  Back in Win 8.1 I used to toggle between max60% conservation mode, or quick charge deppending on what I would need. Now I cannot use this anymore. I am using the latest version available on the support website (1.0.1.51) and Win10 system updates are all up to date. Any help would be really appreciated. Greetings!

today I reached 7%(13 mins) remaining of energy in my battery, and I got a notification saying that I need to: plug my computer OR change/replace the battery(?)
I didn't understand what "change/replace the battery" meant so I didn't do anything, I also couldn't plug my charger/adapter to a wall socket so it automatically hibernated...

I really like the idea of changing the battery but I don't understand what they mean by "changing it/"

please explanation.

Answer:Low energy Battery notification

Replace, as in, put in another battery. Many people carry a spare.

HI! I've had this laptop for 9 months, it has suffered some falls and hits, but before today, it had no problem at all. the problems are: -it's not charging the battery while in-use: while I'm using it, windows 10 shows the "connected not charging" thing down at the battery icon, the only way I can get it to charge is while powered off, while powered off and charging, the right led on the bottom is orange and it seems to blink in a very random way. -its not turning on without battery: after noticing the problem above, I went on google and most of the solutions were to, 1. turn it off, 2. get the battery out, 3. power on without battery.....etc.and there's the problem, I can't turn it on without battery, plugged with the provided charger, it tries to turn on, it makes a little mechanical sound (i think is the dvd unit). and that's it, the left led turns on but it shuts down immediately, some other things to note out:-it's got a pretty heavy use daily.(usually plugged in to the wall with the battery inserted)-the charger's out port is a little damaged (it has been for a while and it didn't cause any problems)-the charger'2 brick gets (or used to get) very hot after hours of use. where I'm at:-it's been charging for half an hour. I'm waiting to see what happens. anyway, thanks for all your help, and I hope I can solve this... *I'll update this post even if no one replies, just because there might be someone out there with the same pro... Answer:G50-80 battery/energy problems

*insert bad word here* I just realized what the problem is, I got a closer view of the charging port and the cable, and I realized it's broken, a little plastic piece is stuck in the charger port, and its supposed to be a part of the computer. I don't really know how to explain it, but *insert profanity* I'm so mad... I'm going to have to repair it. fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu. I dont know how to close threads but if anyone sees this, please do.

A few days ago I noticed that my Yoga 2 pro lost the Auto-Rotate option. After researching I find no errors in the sensors settings, nor the sensor service. Sensors (when switching modes seems to work fine).  I decided to delete and reinstall 'Transitions' and 'Yoga Picks'. Now I have 2 problems: - I deleted the Metro App 'Yoga Picks' and the 'Yoga Picks Desktop application'. I only was able to reinstall the Metro App 'Yoga Picks', but can't find the corresponding Desktop app. Can someone please provide a download link to the current version? - I reinstalled the Metro app 'Transistions'. I installed version 2.0.13.8211. This version shows me that there is an upate, but when I install this update, the keyboard and touch pad is not disabled, when switching to tablet mode. With version 2.0.13.8211 both are disabled in tablet mode. Current situtation:- when waking up the machine after 'Power saving' mode, the CPU is stuck at 800MHz. Need to enter 'Power Saving' mode again and wake up the machine again to aktivate automatic CPU speed switching.- Automatic Screen rotation still isn't working. I really would appreciate any help, because I don't want to do factory reset. Best regards,Dodson65

After upgrading to Windows 10, the yellow color "fix" included in the Lenovo Energy Manager, is not longer working. With Windows 8.1 I could see the yellows on the screen shifting from mustardie to a more pleasing hue when the Energy Manager was loading. With Win 10 that doesn't work anymore although Energy Manager seems to work ok for other functions. Is it me or is it a general issue?

So I've recently noticed the Best Battery Health option in the energy star management program. I understand that using this keeps the battery a lower charge level of ~50%, which will help to extend battery life.  My question is, how much longer could I theoretically see the battery remain healthy by using Best Battery Health? I'm just trying to weigh the occasional inconvenience of using the battery health setting vs extending the life of the battery.

Answer:Energy Star Best Battery Health

hi cjlarssonactually no one can know. some of the batteries lasts more than two years but some of them just couple of months. it's kinda up how lucky you are but using the battery health should extend the battery life at least double times.hope this helps.

I use a Lenovo X1 Carbon with Windows 10.Lenovo Energy Manager 4.00 only shows the AC settings, but the battey settings are completely missing. Actions taken so far:- Re-installed the Power Management Driver (1.67.10.20) and the Energy Manager - still the same issue.- Contacted Lenovo support. They advised me to to a factory reset. As this would actually reset to Windows 7, this is not an option.Any other advice to solve this problem?

Hi beatf, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

In WIndows 10 the Lenovo Settings App from the Windows Store is what you want to manage power.

Do you have a 1st (34xx), 2nd (20A7 or 20A8), or 3rd (20BS or 20BT) generation X1 Carbon there? Can you post a link to the page from which you downloaded the Energy Manager 4.00 please?
