Two months ago bought a Dell 8900 from Best Buy. After 20 days, it would not start, same with the next 8900 replacement... only fewer days. The first gameware as a replacement did not start at all. The Alienware Aurora worked beautifully for 3 days and then would not start. In the 8900's,,, got the blinking amber lights on the start button. Tech is coming to replace motherboard. What the heck is happening? Could it be the monitor... or the external hard drive or what? Come on Dell,,, what's up? I have a Dell XP Laptop as a back up using the same external hard ddrive.

Hi all,
I recently purchased an Inspiron 15 7567 gaming laptop from Dell and have encountered a few issues.
Computer Specs:
OS: Windows 10 Home 64 Bit
CPU: Intel Core i7 7700HQ Kabylake
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB
Memory: 8GB (1x) DDR4
Storage: 1TB Hybrid Drive
The rest can be found here
Upon first setup there were issues installing the NVIDIA drivers where the install would fail multiple times - eventually I got the driver to install. Then I had some issues with the graphics card enabling when I would play games so I just changed the setting in the NVIDIA control panel to always use the dedicated GPU. After playing some AAA titles such as GTA V and Arma III, I am experiencing what appears to be throttling. On low or ultra settings, my FPS remains around 45-50 (sometimes a little higher before stutter) on most games which surprised me because the dedicated GPU is a 1050 Ti which has higher specs than what the games need. After playing for maybe an hour, the game starts to frequently stutter, dropping frames for a couple seconds then boosting back and so on. I have monitored the temperature of both the GPU and CPU which reach ~56 degrees Celsius and ~70 degrees Celsius respectively. I have also monitored the usage of the CPU and memory during play, the CPU not reaching full usage and the memory reaching about 90% usage. I have also monitored the GPU performance through GPU-Z and will attach the file below. I have virtually tried everything that I can thi... Read more

I've had it with this laptop.
Every 3-5 days my bluetooth stops working and device manager shows the device as unrecognized. Updating or rescanning has no effect. Re-booting has no effect. In Bluetooth settings the option to turn on/off bluetooth disappears. My laptop stays closed to the side of my desk in a hard to reach place so then I can't use it at all.
The only remedy so far has been (1) reflashing the bios, or (2) going into the bios and re-saving it. (Mostly (2) doesn't work and I have to do (1).
Either way, my work is interrupted and I have to re-open all my apps and re-set everything up.
I guess I have to send it back, and then I don't have a laptop to ship my current project at work.
Tech support just gets me to reflash the bios.
Is there any other solution????? Anyone else seeing this issue?
Very frustrating.

Hello,Why does the 2017 Inspiron 15 Gaming 7577 model have no Windows 8.1 support?

Answer:2017 Inspiron 15 Gaming 7577, no Windows 8.1 support?

Starting with the seventh generation Intel Core platform (and AMD Ryzen/R9, R12 APU) only Windows 10 is supported.  It's Microsoft -- not Dell -- that is locking out older Windows on newer CPUs.
Dell is following Microsoft, as all OEMs must.
if you want to run anything older than Windows 10, you must go no newer than the Skylake (6th generation) platform.

I am from National Insruments, we have a software product called Lookout, when we install the update 2017-06 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB4022719), there is a problem for window to pop up.
In our software, there is a control panel(panel 1), in panel 1,there is a button(button1) which is connected to another control panel(panel2).
If we click button1, panel can pop up. Before we install the update, the normal action is panel can pop up on the top layer, which can been seen in the following picture.
But after we install the ipdate, the phenomenon is strange, when clicking button2, panel 2 can pop up, but under panel1, we have to click on the button for another time, then panel 2 can show up in the front, this phenomenon is not expected.
I wonder if there are some changes causing this reaction. For example, modifying register key of fixed value of windows parameters , anyone has any ideas or recommendations?

Hi Guys,
Right, after looking at various models, i've decided upon an Alienware 17 to replace my trusty M14r2.
Can anyone answer the following questions though please..
a) can it run 2 external monitors and the internal panel at the same time?
b) If it does, can it do thsi on the integrated intel chipset, or does it need to use the Discrete Graphics
c) is there a huge difference between the AMD and nVidia options? I'm not really going to play games on it, its mainly for web development - I know I could get a Dell as its not really for gaming, but I just like the Alienware brand.
d) how many channels the does the PCI-E SSD use?
e) I'm interested in teh 1TB PCIE SSD option, is it a Samsung 961 based drive?

Answer:Downgrade the Dell Alienware 17 R4 to Windows 7

Unlike the  XPS 8910, which is Skylake, the Alienware 17 R4 is Kaby Lake.  Skylake was the very last Intel platform with Windows 7 support.
Kaby Lake is Windows 10 only.

I started this thread at the beginning of November: Virus help

since then I haven't had the time to fix it but now I've been considering just reinstalling the OS but my problem is I'm not sure how to. The computer with the virus is an Alienware bought from Dell so it didn't come with a windows CD though I have one from building another computer. I was wondering if it was safe to use the other cd or will that not be able to register windows on two computers? And I'm not sure if the Alienware computers come with an internal CD for reinstallation or anything like that.
I would prefer to not have to deal with Dell since they are a hassle and I don't trust them to not charge me for services.

Thank you for your help.

I have three Dell Lattitudes with powered eSata ports. I purchased a sata/power cable to SATA interface hoping to use a SSD or 2.5" hard drive.
However although there is power going to the drive, it is not recognised on boot nor in Windows 10 x64.
There are no drivers missing in Device Manager. The SSD/HDD are all recognised and working using USB to SATA adapters.

Can any one help please?
Is there a missing Driver?
There is nothing in the BIOS I can see that I can turn on ... everything is enabled.

Friend of mine had his PC scammed (guy calls, tells you they are Microsoft and that you are infected, get into your PC and then lock you out and ask for money $ to let you back in).

Anyways, he has a Dell Alienware Aurora R4 PC running (shipped with) Windows 8 or 8.1 - I am not sure but I know he has not upgraded/changed anything. The system came with a resource DVD (nothing else).

Now all we want to do is restore it to factory default, there is nothing on it of any importance to save ...

I looked on the internet and found what looks like the proper solution:

- Enter the advanced repair options (holding shift on boot), select "Troubleshoot"
>> "Dell Backup and Recovery icon" is missing (how could this be?

Without this I am totally stuck ...
Any suggestions? Recommendations? Ideas?

My computer takes 4 minutes to open after microsoft opening screen. The first thing that happens is my Comodo virus window opens the screen is black then after 4 minutes the screen opens with everything running fine.
I have done 2 diagnostics on computer checking hardware and processes and memory everything is OK. Dell was on my computer for 3 hours.
I did a windows sfc scan and dism scan everything is good.
When in safe mode computer loads instantly.
I did a registry clean up using free registry repair fix on Major Geeks.
Nothing worked. I went to start menu and disable everything not related to alienware.
I am out of options except to do a clean install of windows. I don't want to have to do that. I am convinced it is not a windows problem but it could be a software problem. Is there anyway to narrow down this problem. Any suggestions are appreciated

I have 2 Dell Optiplex GX260s I purchased used from a university. One is a slimline, the other is a mid-tower. Both hard drives were wiped by the university. Both will not install Win XP. When the install CD is inserted, "Press any key to boot from CD..." is displayed. Then "Setup is inspecting your hardware configuration" is displayed for about 5 seconds. Then the display goes blank and the HDD light remains on steady. The PC will remain in that state and not install. I have left the machine on overnight to see if anything would happen.

Here is what is strange:
1. The WinXP install disk works fine on another machine. (home built)
2. Fedora 7 linux installs and runs fine. (Ubuntu does not)
3. BOTH PCs have the same issue which leads me to believe that it is not a hardware issue with the machine.

Any suggestions? I suspect it is something with the Dell hardware configuration but what? Thanks.

Prior to Feb 23, 2017, there was sound through internal speakers and also when I plug in external speakers.
Starting Feb 23, 2017, there is no sound with Dell Optiplex 780 desktop computer (small form factor) with Windows 10
ie no system sounds
ie when I use vlc media player, no sound
When I use Windows Media Player, it says "encountered a problem while playing the file."
When I use vlc player, it opens the audio file, advances the time elapsed, but the speakers are silent
I updated Windows.
I ran Windows diagnostics.
Windows diagnostics detected conflict with sound card enhancements, so I disabled them, then rebooted.
I uninstalled the only recent Windows update, which was Feb. 21 windows update of Adobe Flash player.  I re-booted.
I ran AVG anti-virus and Malwarebytes.
I am trying to run on the online diagnosis, but it is stuck.

I downloaded Dell System Detect and installed it.  It is running, and appears in the system tray.
The I selected a sound card test.
However, the process is stuck at step 2. Install System Detect

I recently purchased an Inspiron Gaming Series Dell laptop and since yesterday when I open it/turn on the power button the screen displays green/white vertical triangle lines (can provide an image). It DOES NOT display the Dell logo at all and doesn't even give me the opportunity to sign in, it just stays stuck on the screen.
This laptop is fairly new, purchased back in August, so it should still be under warranty, but it worries me that it is having issues when it is still fairly new. What could be the cause of it? Any way I can fix it?

Answer:New Inspiron Gaming Laptop- Vertical Lines When Powered On

I'd suggest updating the System Setup(BIOS). Please following the instructions in the video below to safety installed latest BIOS version.

hi at all, i have alienware R3 13,3 inch the latest 2017 and i want to know if i can upgrade ram from 16 gig to 32 Gig on this model also i have nvidia gtx 1060 is it possible to upgrade too

Answer:alienware R3 13,3 inch the latest 2017 ram upgrade and nvidia upgrade

Yes, the RAM can be upgraded to 2X16 = 32 G.
The internal GPU cannot be upgraded - you'd need to buy an external Alienware graphics amplifier and use an external GPU to upgrade.

I got a new Alienware Laptop, the Alienware 17, and I've got a question about it regarding gaming.

I got the i7 4800, 16gb ram, and GTX 780M with 4gb RAM (single, can only do double on Alienware 18)

I was playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and the computer's screen is capable of 120Hz, so I set it to 120Hz, at full HD with anti-aliasing set to 2x.

I noticed a bit of lagging, but no more than what it did at 60Hz, so I assume that this is just due to internet lag? It doesn't display the cable disconnected symbol, but I've never ever seen it display that until it lags for 2 or more seconds. Also, the game was not crashing and the computer was not overheating, the fans were not turning up, and when I put my hand behind the vents they did not feel very hot. Not even noticeably hotter than they do while I perform normal tasks on the computer.

So I was wondering, should the GTX 780M be able to play games at full HD and at 120Hz? Or is that too much to ask of this graphics card?

Thanks in advance

Answer:Question about Gaming on new Alienware

Try monitoring framerates with FRAPs or something similar. Is vsync on in the game? Not sure how that would impact playing at 120Hz, but it's worth a look.

Since Vista, the "Timeout Detection and Recovery" (TDR) components of the OS video subsystem have been capable of doing some truly impressive things to try to recover from issues which would have caused earlier OSs like XP to crash.

As a last resort, the TDR subsystem sends the video driver a "please restart yourself now!" command and waits a few seconds.

If there's no response, the OS concludes that the video driver/hardware combo has truly collapsed in a heap, and it fires off that stop 0x116 BSOD.

Hi everyone, i have quite a few questions so i'll post separate threads rather than pollute one thread. I'm wanting to get something a lot better than windows defender. Comcast is my ISP so i can get NIS for free. As most of you are aware of Norton hasn't been doing a great job these days. There has been multiple vulnerabilities in its products that actually decreases the security of windows. Still NIS still does a pretty good job of scoring pretty well in the various test in terms of protection. I was thinking on going with either bitdefender or KIS but of course i would have to pay for those. If you were me would opt for NIS because its still pretty dang good and worlds better than bit defender or would you opt for one of the better products like KIS or bitdefender?

Dell XPS27 - 7760 (2017) Windows Hello "can't turn on camera" error
camera passed diagnostics and took my photo so the camera itself was working until then.  Does anyone have an XPS27 7760 working with Windows Hello?  What drivers are you using?
I see there is a realtek web cam program actually installed, but the drivers are from a windows update.  Does that suggest anything to anyone?  Should I try to run that program and see if it fixes things?  There are events that say "device needs further installation" but that seems to be a fairly common error on a lot of usb devices so that's no help.

Dell recomends System Mechahics. instead of Mcafee any inut?

Answer:Dell recomends Dell/Systems Mechanic instead of Mcafee ?

BFLOUBK1,I would be careful of what Dell tell you. System Mechanic from iolo is for cleaning and repairing your pc. And McAfee is a security anti virus product used to stop viruses etc.Are you sure of what they have advised you and that you are talking with Dell? System Mechanic Pro does include virus protection, but I would look at Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials first, which are both free and work well. And with safe browsing habits you should have very little problems at all. Please reply and let us know if our help worked.

Just recently, my Inspiron 5150 laptop has decided that when I turn the power off, it wants to run the fan! Sometimes it runs on an almost idle-speed, but most often it is running full blast.

The moment I power up the laptop, the fan returns to normal operating speeds. If i plug in the power cord and charge it all the way, the fan turns off...but the moment i unplug it, the fan goes back on!

I have absolutely no clue what is causing this. It's extremely annoying, as the battery dies quite quickly when I take my laptop with me and the loud fan is extremely, extremely annoying. Any ideas?

I just got a new Alienware Laptop last week. I haven't done anything to it, haven't gotten any virus of any sort. And then the problem happens.

I had Pinnacle Studio 12 on an old 2002 Dell Laptop, it ran fine, no dropped frames, rarely lagged, etc.

But then I installed Studio 12 on this Laptop today and this happens. Right when I start recording it starts to drop tons of frames. I'm talking 100 frames in 10 seconds! This makes absolutely no sense at all, the video during playback would slow, and then speed back up, and then slow down over and over again.

By 3 minutes I lost 7000 frames!

Here are the specs of the Alienware:

Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce9000x(Top of the Line)
Hard Drive: 500 GB( I still have 450 GB left over too)
Processor: i7

I don't really know anything else, but it's not bad at all.

Anybody know what's up?

Man, thats a lot of money but isn't it nice ? Alienware has a knack for creating gaming designs that'll appeal to just about anyone. The Alienware Area-51 m9750 ($4,708 direct), for instance, is a testament to how a touch of simplicity can enhance the design. It moves away from the flashy neon paint jobs in favor of a stealthier look Batman would love.Stealth Black, as Alienware likes to call it, is an intuitive approach to adding subtlety while retaining the unearthly look of an Alienware gaming rig. There's a lot to like about the design, but pulverizing the gaming opposition is still the main objective. That's why an SLI-enabled graphics chipset and a high-performance, mobile dual-core processor are ready for the task at hand. For this, the m9750 supplants the Dell XPS M1710 as the gaming king, or at least until Dell can come up with a new rig.Speaking of Batman, it may not be Alienware's intention, but I look at the m9750 as an ode to the Dark Knight himself.I say this in jest, because last year the company released a Superman limited-edition laptop that drew a lot of hype. The Stealth Black (yes, that's really the name of the color) exterior is reminiscent of Batman's ensemble, particularly the rubber-like layer draped around the chassis and the ridges that, to me, resemble his rib cage. (Again, this is my take, not Alienware's.)The outermost layer also repels smudges, unlike the fingerprint-prone HP Pavilion HDX9000. The frame is... Read more

Hey guys! (and girls )

I would just like to ask, which operating system do YOU think is more for gaming? As in, which one works better, faster, and more reliable?
To me, I think Windows XP is much more for gaming/hardcore gaming because of it's simplicity.
Windows 7 has too much theme options (Aero, transparency, etc) and animations.
I mean, that depends whether you want those features or not.

Windows XP is simple, not too much of theme options, animations are simple, less lag, less technical problems, but doesn't have compatibility with the newer versions of Direct X. If I'm not mistaken, the latest version of Direct X for Windows XP is Direct X 9. That isn't much of a big problem to me.

Those are my thoughts.

I have a Dell 1525 Inspiron laptop..i believe is about 3 years old. I got it as a hand-me-down from my BF's mother, who took excellent care of it. Ive only had it since February, but it has always run fine, until this past month. 3 times now it has done this to me. The first time, it was just after I unplugged it to take it to a friends house..then tried to power it up about 1/2 hour later and nothing...let it sit for 2 days or so, and then it was it has happened 2 more times..but these times, it froze up and wouldnt unfreeze..then when I got it powered down and tried to get it back up..nothing...the second time it again took a few days then it was ok..this last time it has been a week and nothing yet. This time, the only thing that is different is that the 3 lights to the left of the power button are blinking, the caps lock, numbers lock and scroll lock icons.. It powers up, then shuts down within 5 seconds or so...but the power light and the one fan keeps running...Ive been told multiple things so far..from a bad battery to bad power cord to bad connection in the lappy where the power cord connects.. I just dont understand why it powered up those 1st 2 times and it wont this time..unless it was just a fluke those times. I dont have alot of money to fix it, or replace things unless i know for sure what im buying is going to work. I dont want to lose whats on it either!! help!

Okay so I am getting a new laptop. it will have windows 8.1, my friend has windows 7. does it matter? can we still connect in games either online or tcp/ip games. not necessarily mmo but rpg's and such. Thanks!

Answer:Solved: Operating systems and online gaming

Operating system makes no difference. As long as you have enough memory and a graphics card that can handle your games - preferably one with dedicated memory since a number of games really need it. Besides if you ever decide to get into the mmo games, you'll really need it. My daughter plays WOW and has 6 or 8 gigs of memory and an upper end graphics card with dedicated memory - it even has its own cooling fan built in.

I've owned this laptop for quite a while and had been using Webcam Central to control the Integrated Webcam on my Alienware M17x R4.   I never had any issues using Windows 7, 8, 8.1, or even Windows 10 until my system updated on 8/20/2016 with a scheduled Windows 10 update.
After the windows 10 update my system restarted and the next time I went to use my webcam I noticed that I couldn't control the pan / zoom / or tilt or alter any of the settings in webcam central.  If I attempt to change anything it automatically changes back instantly.  For example of I move the slider to zoom, or attempt to change the pan, it auto goes back to where it was and will not allow me to change the settings.
I also notice that my mouse pointer flickers over the webcam central GUI, meaning, there seems to be some issue with the GUI after the windows 10 update, I assume is also whats causing the settings not to be changed.
I have tried uninstalling both the drivers and software and reinstalling to no avail, same problem is present after reinstallation of both drivers and the webcam central software.
Wondering if anyone else has run into this and whether there was some type of resolution.
I was able to get the pan / zoom / tilt working with 3rd party webcam software, however I would prefer to go back to using webcam central.

Question: Alienware vs. Dell

why are alienwares so overpriced? how is an alienware with the same specs as a dell xps better and more expensive?

Answer:Alienware vs. Dell

Alienware actually makes sure all your parts will give you great performance.
Dell has this habit of saying "Intel inside" with a 3.0 ghz CPU and 512mb of RAM.
Then you buy the system and find out you can't upgrade anything in it and you bought a 3ghz Celeron with 512mb of PC133 RAM.
If your buying a DELL, look very closely at whats in it. There is almost always a huge bottleneck in the system that they expect you to overlook.

Alienware will always put great parts in their system, do a system burn in and then ship it. I have heard their Customer support is a little lacking though.

I been looking at some extreme systems online, and the pretty cases they come in, and was thinking i could build a system that could compete with alienware/xps systems for way way less.

I hand picked components that look good and will get the job done, the same or nearly the same specs as the xps/alienware and other gaming systems.
1. Really cool case, blue lights, see through side panel w 450w power supply $39.99
2. 256MB Radeon ATI X1950 pci-express $225.00
3. Asus extreme gaming mobo M2N-MX $84.99
4. 2Gigs of DDR2 $200.00
5. Intel duo-core w' fan 2.13 GHz 239.00
6. XP pro new in package/ under 100 (reliable/stable) / or vista upgrade around 100. (recommend to wait a few months)
7. Quality laser mouse and keyboard $75.00 or less
8. 250 GB SATA Hard drive $60
....and last but not least the
9. L12-1128 1. Lite-On LH-20A1P SuperAllwrite / 20x DVD±R Burn / 16x DVD±R Read / 8x DVD+RW / 6x DVD-RW / 8x DVD±R DL / 12x DVD-RAM / 48x32x CD-R/RW / Black / DVD Burner for $40 bucks.

(the only rebate item was the SATA HDD.)

Amazing sys for just $1064 maybe add 30 bucks for shipping (just under 1100)

Extreme Gaming is within reach after all!

Ive seen many similar pc's that are selling for 3500 to 4500 dollars.

I believe that major vendor systems are fine indeed, but mainly just interested in what some experienced pc gamers have to say abou the subj. Thanks for any feedback.

Answer:Extreme Gaming VS. vendors overpriced systems & your opinions!

Unless that case comes with a name brand power supply, which I doubt, scrap that one and buy a solid name brand one. The power supplies they sell with the cases are usually junk.

Also, if you are planning on using Vista at any point, now or the near future, get a graphics card that supports DX10.

I just received my new dell 15/5000.  After setup, I noticed that the touchpad buttons are integral with the touchpad itself, meaning that movement on the button moves mouse pointer which is very annoying.  Is there a way to fix this?  Also, while checking drivers for touchpad, it appears it only has the generic microsoft drivers.  Searches on the dell driver download for this model do not show the "Dell" driver or software like seen on other models when searching this problem.  It appears that with the dell software, you can adjust the touchpad area and move it off the buttons.  Please help.

So today, as usual, i brought my laptop to school and when used it for about 25 minutes. Once i was about to put away my laptop I used my touch screen to sign out It froze on me and wouldn't sign-out. I had to leave to my next class so I just closed my laptop and left./ My next period i wasn't using my laptop at all but it was in my backpack for 90 minutes. Once coming back to my backpack I noticed that my backpack was extremely hot i check my laptop and it was extremely hot. I could not even touch the laptop without burning my hands. I was able to take the laptop out with a paper towel and from there on held the laptop to try and get it to cool down. I opened up my laptop and it was on and still at the sign out screen frozen. I turned it off by holding the power button for a while. I let it cool off and once it was very cold i charged it. After turning it on there is no problems and its not overheating anymore. I don't know if this is a common problem or maybe i just did something to cause it but it isn't currently overheating anymore.

When looking for the best laptop for programming, you'll have a certain set of criteria that the device will need to meet, as well as features it will need to have. For example, you're going to need plenty of processing power in a laptop for programming, so that it can compile and run your code as fast as possible. Thankfully, modern laptop processors come with plenty of cores and high clock speeds, which certainly makes looking for the best laptop for programming easier.

You'll also want plenty of RAM. We'd recommend at least 8GB - if you're running complex code, and you'll need a large hard drive. If a laptop also comes with a solid state drive (SSD), that's even better, as it will help with the overall speed of your programming and coding - especially if you regularly rebuild the code you write with minor changes.
Having a dedicated graphics card isn't essential for a laptop for programming, unless you are coding graphically-intensive games that you then want to test out. Modern Intel processors come with integrated graphics capabilities that are powerful enough for pretty much all programming tasks.

Dell managed to deliver a magnificent piece of kit which it says is the most secure, most reliable and most manageable business-class laptop. That Latitude 5480 does come at a hefty price though and compared to the competition, this notebook may feel underwhelming. However, Dell's forte lies in its services and aftersale... Read more

I just bought Dell vostro 15 laptop few weeks ago. It was working just fine. The problem occured few days ago. My laptop was getting stuck and there is no response for mouse click. So I plug out the battery and put it back. But When I power on the laptop just right after, it is not getting on. My AC adapter are working just fine. The white led turn on for few second and goes off. I tried to do what normal people do. I watched the YouTube videos and search for any information in the hope of getting a solution. I didn't get anything useful. So help me sort this out.

Answer:Regarding getting power on for Dell vostro 15(2017)

If the LED on the adapter goes out when you connect the system, there's a short circuit inside the system - start by contacting Dell for a warranty repair.

So recently, after the Windows 10 Anniversary Update (I think), I turn off my Dell Inspiron 15-5547 at night fully charged, only to find it drained by the morning.  Yes, I turn it completely off, not to sleep or hibernate.  Fast Boot is disabled.  When I turn it back on in the morning, the screen displays the "Battery Critically Low" error message and the battery indicator is orange, which means it is low.
The battery life itself is fine.  Lasts at least 2-3 hours while working on the laptop.  Even my 10 year old laptop with a 30 minute battery can last for weeks without being turned on.  So the battery couldn't have gone bad.

Any suggestions?

I'm the guy that many of you have been helping
out over the past week.

I'm the guy that was looking into buying a very
powerful computer to meet my business needs.

I originally stated I owned a DELL and wanted to
move away from it towards an ALIENWARE. I ended
up configuring and pricing out a very expensive
ALIENWARE system that many of you politely scolded
me for considering since I was not a gamer.

Many of you suggested if I wanted a powerful
non-gaming computer I should look into something
geared towards a business that possibly included
SCSI hard drive setup.

I am back to DELL. Why? Because I took a look at their
workstations and discovered that they offered a system
that would meet my demands.

I just priced a Dell Workstation with Dual
Xeon Processors and a SCSI hard drive. This
will give me the powerhouse performance I want.

Here is what I priced at about $4200 :

Dell Precision Workstation 670:
Intel® Xeon™ Processor 3.20GHz, 2MB L2 Cache

2nd Processor (Must match speed selection above):
Intel® Xeon™ Processor 3.20GHz, 2MB L2 cache

File System: NTFS File System
Intel Hyper-Threading: "ON."

Memory: 2GB, DDR2 SDRAM Memory, 400MHz, ECC (4 DIMMS)

Hi there,
I have an alienware 18 which runs the GTX880m
i recently got a  dell 3007wfp hc, and could not get the promised 2560x1600 resolution
I am using the HDMI port from the laptop with this hdmi cable:
the audioquest pearl
and this adaptor
Both parts indicated that it is 4k ready.
I have also previously tired this cable
but also resulted in failure
I was able to make a customize tab in the NIVIDIA control pannel for 1920 x 1080 and the image got through, it is however very pixelated.
I was also able to create a tab for 2560x1600, while i hit the "test" button, the screen became black with only one line of pixels.
is there something i missed?

thanks so much!

hello everyone, i am a newbie here.

i got my alienware laptop less than 10 days ago, and it has been restarted itself randomly for 2 times, the first time i was using photoshop and the second time i was just reading some web pages...i have done some research and the problem appeared to be the hardware.

that will be so damn awesome if it's the hardware 'cause i'll have to go all the way 20km to get local dell store to fix it, and they will take weeks maybe just to get some i hope, it's a system bug.

alienware 15m (that 15inch model, can't remember what's called)
windows7 home prem,
8G ram
650G hard drive
ATI HD 5850 (some people said that it could be the graphics card drive's fault)

Answer:Why my dell alienware restarts itself randomly?

First, since this things only 10 days old it is certainly under warrenty. I'd be telling Dell straight up to fix this thing and a) either they send someone to get it or b) they give you an RMA # with them paying the shipping both ways.

If you don't want to take this path first then go to their website, find your exact laptop model and update their latest video drivers from there.

This post is more to see if other people have has similar issues with Dell.
Since 2007 I have been a customer with Dell after buying a laptop on eBay and I have to say when Dell products work they tend to work well but when they fail Dell service and warranty seem to fail even more.
So after three replacement laptops (Alienware laptops) I have found myself once again having issues with the laptop and Dell.
It was January when contact was initiated by myself regarding issues with a wifi card that has been replaced and working successfully. Shortly after that I notices overheating issues on the laptop and again another service engineer was sent out to replace the fans, heat sink and motherboard three times. Unfortunately after repair I notices the screen started flickering and reduced brightness even with the brightness level set to max.
This is where Dell advised another service call was issued, only a few days later they decided no to honor their word or warranty and decide to only offer me the service of sending away the computer to their service depot for testing.
I advised Dell Executive Advanced Resolution Group that I used this service before with a previous laptop and it failed to rectify the issue. They stood firm on this and now I have had my solicitor contact Dell on my behalf. I have retained all the emails from Dell and also have a recorded call with the employee saying they wont honor the next business day warranty even if its paid for!
I was advised that re... Read more

Answer:Dell Alienware M17x issues

I purchased the top of the range Dell XPS 15 9530 laptop from Dell Spain in September 2014 and received the computer in October.
The computer was always unpredictable when closed down, not always waking up first time, at times requiring repeated activations of the start switch .
The computer stopped working for the first time in May, no response except a LED on the start switch for 5 seconds.
I contacted Technical Support on 25-05-2015. Email has been used for contact since so I have a full record of this case number.
The Dell engineer has made 5 visits so far, over 9 hours on site. I have had three new motherboards, new batteries, cables and a small USB board. I still have the same issue of the machine failing to restart. I have not had a reliable working computer for over seven weeks. The engineer told me that there is a design issue with this machines motherboard and I am told that I have to wait for an updated motherboard. No available date for the repair can be given!
I am extremely disappointed with this computers reliability and the customer service I have received.
I have asked for a replacement computer or a refund, however this has been declined. Why have I not had the computer replaced with an updated working machine?
I am told I have to wait for the motherboard revision with no available time scale for the repair. I feel that I will then become a Dell test site!!
I will never buy another product from this company.

am currently looking into buying a new laptop. My whole goal in buying this laptop is to be able to run Starcraft II on Ultra settings. Now, I really want the Alienware, I have wanted an Alienware forever and I just don't feel there is any better looking laptop out there. The Alienware is obviously not as good where the processor is concerned, but I am not sure in the graphics card(s) area. I am okay with taking a small hit on performance if it means the Alienware.

Alienware M17x Specifications:

Intel Core 2 Q9000 Quad Core Processor
Dual 1GB (2GB total) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M in SLI Configuration

Dell XPS Specifications:

Intel i7-840 Quad Core Processor
NVIDIA GeForce GT 445M (3GB Total, dual 1.5GB cards I believe, NOT in SLI configuration)

Both have plenty of hard drive space, both have the same quality screen (1440x900 900p), both have 1333MHz RAM, both have Windows 7 Premium, everything but the processor and the graphics cards are the same.

Now again, I know that the XPS is better processor wise, but I don't know where the GPU is concerned. I would much rather own the Alienware.

I guess my real question is, Will there be any significant difference between the two or only a slightly noticable one? If it is the latter, I will be buying the Alienware despite the small hit in performance, and will they both be able to run Starcraft II on Ultra?

The two laptops are NEARLY IDENTICAL IN PRICE.

Answer:Help! Alienware M17x R2 Edition or Dell XPS? Which to buy?

Do me a favor. Don't get an Alienware. Above the M11X, they are overpriced, totally. I am not sure about the XPS lines, but the CPU is newer.

Aurora R1 is running Windows 7.x
Aurora R3 is running WIndows 7.x
What MS OS can the Aurora R1 support (2560x1440 display, updated GPU)
What MS OS can the Aurora R3 support (2560x1440 display)
Can either move to Windows 8.1.x? Or both?
Can either or both move to Windows 10.x?
What is significantly different between Win 8.1.x Pro and Win 10 Pro?

Answer:DELL ALIENWARE AURORA R1, R3, X51, and XPS 8700

First there is a free upgrade from Windows 7 OEM to Windows 10 Retail so there is absolutely zero point in purchasing a Windows 8.1 Retail license...
Windows 10 TH2 is essentially a fixed version of Windows 8.1 where Metro Apps work correctly as "Windows".
Almost any system shipped with Windows 7 can run Windows 10. As they are 2009 and 2011 models respectively Dell did not provide updated drivers for Windows 8.x or Windows 10 because they are all out of warranty. All the drivers should be inbuilt into Windows 10 TH2 or automatically obtained via Windows Update. Its advised to update your BIOS to the latest revision before proceeding.
A Clean Installation also in general performs better. See here for details:
Both systems likely have a legacy (non-UEFI) BIOS so take that into account when making the Bootable USB. Although you may want to look at the BIOS settings for the 2011 model to see if there is UEFI support.

I play slot tournaments at an online casino.  I wanted more spins in the 3 minutes allowed as I see other players getting more spins than me, so I forked out ?800 for an Alienware laptop as my inspiron 1721 only has a windows experience score of 3 - the Alienware has 5.9.  You get about 40 spins in three minutes but it varies because of 'bonus rounds'.  On normal spins I get about 40 spins on the Dell and only 39 on the Alienware which surely should not be so. But the biggest difference is on the bonus rounds - it takes about 45 seconds to play the bonus round on the Alienware , but only 37 seconds on the Dell.  As soon as the round starts the Dell loads the window in about one second and starts playing it , but the Alienware takes about 8 seconds to load it.  ( I can only imagine it is something to do with cookies holding the info about the bonus round ?)I upgraded my virgin 20mb to 60mb and got the superhub - I have tried the Alienware on wireless and have it hardwired at the moment- speedtest shows it is getting 60mb speed.   The Dell is on wireless , and as I have not updated the wireless card is still showing 20mb on the speedtest --  but it is still faster !  The Dell has vista and firefox as the browser, the alienware has chrome and windows 7  --  but I do not know if the browser has any impact (would like to know) - because although the casino was downloaded through the browser it now has its own icon wh... Hi, im trying to factory reset my computer because i'm just tired of having a full HD, and random software from years ago. Anyways, my current OS is Windows 7 and I have an Alienware m15x. Now i've read up on a few ways to restore this specific computer, however, I don't have the installation disc, AlienRespawn/DellDataSafe does not appear when press f8 at boot menu, and i don't have a factory system image to recover from apparently. So with this being said, Is there anyway to factory reset? I have a bootable USB drive with windows 7 recovery on it, but I need a system image or something I believe. I've also tried download AlienRespawn Win 7 patch off of but when I try to use it it says "Change.MBR failed"

Very strange issue here is happening here. When the laptop T410s is always off before it's docked, so once it's docked I press the power button and no image shows up on the external monitor.  I then open the lid of the T410s, press the power button on the laptop, quickly close the lid and it comes up.  I've tried different docking stations, power supplies and the issue still persisted.  I then tried another Lenovo T410 and it boots fine. Here's the kicker... When the T410s is not powered down while docked and only logged off, then undocked, and then powered down. When it's reseated into the dock and powered up it works fine. It then made me believe there was a Docking profile issue. I've removed the docking profiles and recreated them, since it that didn't work; I even set XP to allow us to manually choose whether it's docked or undocked.  This did not work. Is anyone else experiencing this or have the expertise on this subject?

Answer:If laptop is powered off on dock, will not display image when powered back on.

I have a T410s with 2 external monitors that I always used. 1x24inch LCD connected using VGA to VGA and 1x26inch LCD connected using displayport to HDMI. It used to be fine until some intel grapics driver update a while back. So I come to believe is the driver fault and/or the internal graphic card lack of capacity. My solution is to setup the monitors the way I like is to change the BIOS to boot up from displayport, and when successful going into the desktop then disable the laptop LCD. Then connect the 2nd LCD, extend the desktop and setup the resolution. From that point on I must always boot up with VGA disconnect then after into desktop, plug in the VGA cable and it will show up fine. If I forget and left the displayport + VGA connected when I bootup, it will fail and I have to do the initial setup again. So something with the displayport/graphic card/graphic memory is making the T410s 'forget' or discard the displayport. or the 1900x1200 resolutions of 2x monitors overwhelm the graphics card memory and it had to made a choice or give up. Most of the time it just goes blank or flash on/off In your case, if you only have 1x external monitor you can just change the BIOS to bootup screen in VGA/Displayport/Dock and when in the dsektop, set to duplicate mode for both screens. Then download this utility called ultramon and use it to setup the extended display setting to your liking, save the profile on the desktop/startup folder. When your T410s bootup, int... Read more
