(INSPIRON 5559) CRACKLING SOUND WHEN UNPLUGGING ADAPTER, WHY?

Question: (INSPIRON 5559) CRACKLING SOUND WHEN UNPLUGGING ADAPTER, WHY?

I recently bought a Dell inspiron 5559 (June 1, 2017). I then noticed that whenever I play audio like music or videos and plug the adapter out, I would hear a crackling sound, sounds as if its coming from the speakers. When I pause the sound and unplug then play audio the sound is made so I'm guessing the problem seems to exist whether I play audio or not. No matter where I plug the adapter out, it makes that sound. I'm worried that it might destroy the laptop, or that this is a defect that might start a fire if its a lack in how the adapter was made. It is a 45 w adapter according to what is labelled on it. sometimes i get a message saying "adapter is not recognized. system performance will be impacted etc" and I guess it happens if I don't plug the cord in properly? or is it not suppose to say that at all? Nonetheless, my main worry is the sound the laptop makes when I unplug the adapter. It goes on for maybe 3 or 4 seconds and sounds like a radio transceiver. Please comment if you know what this means, Thank you.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

Hi,
I bought a new Dell Inspiron 5559 i7 6th gen Laptop on 1st November, I faced the distorting and crackling issue in the beginning but i checked the solutions here and switched the realtek driver to the windows default driver and it was working well until today. I have tested my dell speakers on various test videos available online and the general speaker configure option of windows, laptops right speaker is working good but left produces a crackling noise at high pitch sound. Please tell me what should i do? I have done multiple reinstalls of the driver but nothing worked. I have decided that its a hardware fault, just trying my luck here.
Regards
Viren Kumar Gupta

Answer:Inspiron 15 5559 i7 6th gen, left speaker sound crackling on high levels

Hi virengupta13,Thanks for posting. If the noise is only coming through one of the speakers and it is not there when you listen through headphones, then the speaker probably needs to be replaced. If you are still under warranty you can contact Tech Support, but before you do remove all media players except Windows Media Player, or else you will be denied warranty service.

Hi everyone,
I want to connect my hard drive from Dell Inspiron 15, 5559 to another  computer through a USB to be able to see the data from that hard drive. I was wondering if you could point me to the right adapter. A page from a store website would be really appreciated.

I have had the Inspiron 5559 laptop, Windows 10, for two weeks and suddenly have no audio sound

Answer:Inspiron 5559 laptop no sound

Hello. No sound from just the speakers, or no sound from the speakers or the headphone jack? If no sound from either one, try the following things.
> Try using System Restore (type system restore into the Windows search box) and revert to a date before the audio stopped.
> If that does not help. perform a basic re-installation of the Realtek audio driver.
1.    Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2.    Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" category.3.    Right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".4.    Click "uninstall".5.    Do not check the box to “delete the driver software for this device”. 6.    Restart the computer. Windows will detect your device and re-install the driver. The driver is re-built from files that are in a folder on the hard drive. The reason this process fixes some audio issues is that it resets the driver settings to their default configuration.
> If that does not help, completely remove the Realtek audio driver:
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, Video & Game Controllers" section.3. Right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio". 4. Click "uninstall."5. Put a check mark in the option to delete the driver software, and then... Read more

I'm a big-time right-click and open in new tab user, but having the buttons "hard-click" sound every time I click on something is going to drive my housemates nuts.
Any suggestions out there?  Thanks.

Answer:Inspiron 5559 - can I turn off the click sound for the touchpad buttons?

My only suggestion is to just tap the scroll pad above the buttons, it basically does the same thing unless you are doing a copy and paste.

It's a new Dell and it has been making crackling sound since I got it.
I spent an hour on the phone with a technician who restored the laptop with Windows 8.1 to an earlier point in time and it stopped crackling for the rest of the day, but the next day, the noise was back.
The worst are "ding" sounds, they have more crackle than ding. Video playback is bad but at least we can understand what is said. Youtube is bad. mp3 audio is bad. Crackle is there with earphones too.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 11 (3147, Mid 2014) makes crackling sound whenever sound is played

Hello. If it made the noise right out of the box you probably should have returned it as defective during the brief return period.
Does it make the noise only when running on battery power or also when plugged into house current?

Can anyone help here?

I got a Dell Inspiron 1525 back in September. Runs on Vista.

A few weeks ago, I began noticing a crackling sound that was coming from the top left hand corner of the keyboard section of the laptop, right near where the 'Inspiron' logo is. It doesn't usually start until I've had the computer running for 30 minutes or so.

I called Dell and shipped the computer to their facility since it's still under warranty. They sent it back saying that they could not detect any problem with any of the hardware and therefore, did not fix anything. Sure enough, after getting it back and turning it on and being on it for 30 minutes or so, the sound is still there.

Everything about the computer works fine...the Internet, my progams. It isn't slow or anything. But this sound just doesn't sound right.

Does anyone have any ideas what this may be? Could it be an issue with the laptop's fans? If so, aren't the fans considered to be part of the hardware?

Thanks for any light anyone may be able to shed on this issue.

- Brian

Answer:Crackling Sound From Dell Inspiron 1525

Is laptop staying cool or did you try to update your wireless/network card? When you listening music can you check CPU usage and temperature (with temp additional program) under task manager. Also, CPU fan is not making that noise.

i just want to ask if someone could help me with my laptop problem.when im finish on window set up it only keeps rebooting. hope you could help me..thanks in advance

Answer:Inspiron 15 5559 keep rebooting

Hi JJABAT,
What is the current OS installed on the system? Are you trying to reinstall the OS on the machine? What is the exact issue with the system if you are trying to reinstall the OS?
If the system is on Win 10 OS and does not boot into windows, provided the OS was working fine earlier, then check this article - http://dell.to/2dS9MFs
If the issue is not resolved - restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us.These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Unplug or remove the battery - try again.  If the flashing ceases, it's a bad battery. If it doesn't, it's a bad mainboard.

I want to know the manufacturer of the hard disk of Inspiron 5559 ......????????As I bought one from two weeks and I found that the brand of hard disk is Toshiba from 2006??????Is it right??????Or some thing wrong

Answer:Dell Inspiron 5559

Could be Toshiba, WD (HGST) or Seagate (Samsung).  Some have easily decoded manufacture dates, while others do not.
Large capacity (1T and up) drives didn't exist in 9.5 mm or slimmer format in 2006, so it's not that old.

Hi,
Thank you for writing to us!
Kindly check the following
1. Check that you have all the latest Windows updates then back up your whole PC, or at least any data that you have not already backed up. Create a Restore Point so you can go back to it.
2. Go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall any software you no longer use. Ideally, uninstall all copies of Java and then install the latest version.
3. Download and run CCleaner (free) to delete temporary files and clean up your PC, including the Windows Registry.
4. Run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, as mentioned above. (You can also run it in Safe Mode.)
5. Restart your PC and check your hard drive for errors. The quickest way is to click Start and type chkdsk /r in the Run box.
Use the link below which will help with all the issues that you might have:

I've had my 5559 for about 8-9 months. I've tried multiple "solutions" that have worked for others and none are working for me. I've run full diagnostics multiple times and it has come back good every time. I've removed the battery and released the static charge and retried to no avail. I've cleaned the contacts to no avail. I've bought another dell charger and that didn't work either. I've tried all the tips that dell provides to fix charging issues to no avail. I'm at a loss now. I have no idea what else to do. Hello All,
I am trying to fix my partners Dell Inspiron 15 5559, 3 days ago she went to turn it on and it was non responsive. She looks after her laptop with extreme care, the has been no drops or spillages, or anything else.
When trying to turn on the laptop the is no response. When plugged in to the AC adapter the is no LED lighting up on the laptop either,Have tried removing the battery, holding the power button for 3 minutes, reinserting the battery but no progress. The AC adapter "block" (not sure correct term) does have a green light lit up on it, so I know that is getting power.
Does this model of laptop boot without a battery present normally (trying to rule out if it is a duff battery or not)?Is the any other steps I should take before slowly taking it apart & seeing if the is a component short?Lastly as the model is out of warranty, I assume that it would be cheaper to source a replacement part than send to dell for a repair (if it is a part fault)?
N.B. is the a known issue with dell laptops not powering up or is it just bad luck?
Thank you for your time.On an unrelated note the recaptcha for making this post does not display properly in firefox latest version, had to switch to chrome to post here. Not sure if anyone is aware,

Answer:Inspiron 15 5559 No power, no LED's

Hi Marrv,
Thanks for posting.
Apologies that your partners computer is not working as expected.
From what you're describing, if the adapter is working, and plugged in (have you tried it on another computer?) it should boot even if the battery is dead.
If it's not, then the next suspect would be the motherboard.  Motherboards for this system are in the $200+ range, so several things might need to be considered if you're thinking about repair instead of replacement.

There is an obvious bulge in the keyboard.  This seems to be due to backlight wires against the keyboard.  There is height difderence around keys 9, O and L.  The keyboard is also flimsy around 8, I, K. Because of the void between keyboard and base.
Has anyone found a fix? I called Dell who said this is not a technical malfunction and all keys on the keyboard is working. As such tech support didnt help me.  I called the vendor who told me to call Dell's tech support.

Contact Dell Support in your country, verify that the system is still in warranty period, on your invoice / order it will be listed or online on the Dell Support site.
It is advisable to check if you are entitled to statutory rights warranty, or example in the EU you have at least 2yrs statutory rights warranty from the invoice date.

Please can anyone help?  I installed a Dell update yesterday, and since then I haven't been able to get into my laptop at all.  It was taking me to the 'time/date' screen showing wallpaper, but wouldn't go any further.  After reading the relevant advice on the help screens on my other old Inspiron, it's got even worse.  I tried the 'Control and Esc' method on start-up to enable me to recover BIOS old settings, but now the screen is locked with 'Updating EC BIOS', and telling me not to power down, but it's been sitting idle like this for at least an hour.
Also, it will not let me shut the power off with the main power button, and the only way I can think of to try and start again is to actually remove the battery so that it HAS TO shut down.
Can anyone offer any help or advice please, as I don't know where else to look.
Thank you.

Hi,
I have a dell Inspiron 5559 Core i7 6500U 2.5GHz laptop. I lost my dell original charger then I bought a charger from a local store. I'm from Sri Lanka and unfortunately there is no Dell Store here. So many local retailers are saying that "WE ARE THE OFFICIAL DELL PARTNERS" but I believe none of them are authorised dealers. The reason I said that is that's why I bought the charger from a local store.

That salesman ensure this is the correct charger for my system but after few weeks I realise my battery life is decreasing faster than before. Very recently I have replaced my Ram with Kingston HyperX 16GB kit. (8GB Ram came with the system) I noticed that battery draining was after this Ram replacement. I'm not sure which one is the reason for battery draining. But Dell Power Management application shows " Battery Status: fair" ..
My Question is what should I do? As I said there is no original part distributor in Sri Lanka as far as I know. I have checked the Dell official website but it says they have been discontinued supplying the relevant battery module which is suits for my laptop.
1. Is there any way I can purchase a one in online?
2. Even if I bought a new battery would that charger will effect in a negative way for the new battery as well?
Help me I'm lost

If this problem has been fixed then please link if possible, I've scoured countless forums and fixes for hours and I've had no luck. Apologies for the long post but I'll cover everything I've tried.
I received an Inspiron 15 5559 from Dell outlet yesterday for my fiance. I spent the afternoon cleaning it up and everything seemed to be fine (for details I installed AVG anti-virus and chrome plus removed a few bits of bloatware, nothing else)
I closed the lid to put it in sleep mode and went to pick her up from work. When we got back about an hour later she opened the machine and it stayed on a blank screen. Nothing on the keyboard, trackpad (or usb mouse) or even the power button would resume the machine. Eventually I had to hold down the power button to hard reset and there was the very obvious noise of hard drives and fans powering down so the laptop was on just not responding.
After checking the power settings and 'what happens when the lid closes' options in power management (set to sleep for all) I then turned to Google. Alot of posts recommended updating drivers which I did for everything (laptop was from outlet but I hope it was a recent install, weren't any updates to be done)
Following another post I went into the device manager and checked the various devices. I've looked at the keyboard and mouse sections as well as the human interface device sections. In all cases any devices that have a power management tab (I checked th... Read more

Answer:Inspiron 15 5559 - won't wake from sleep

Hi PETERHARLING85,
Update the BIOS from - http://dell.to/1YKI5dC - restart the system and check.
If the issue is not resolved, then read below:
Check if the issue is seen on both Auto sleep and Manual sleep.
Check with hybrid sleep on and off in power management -> advanced settings - http://bit.ly/1XyCQN6
Under display adapters:

Uninstall the AMD driver (if applicable on your system) from device manager and control panel - programs and features. Restart the system and check. If the sleep works fine, then reinstall the video drivers from vendor site - http://www.amd.com/ for your specific OS.
Uninstall the Intel driver - restart and check - if the sleep works fine, then reinstall the Intel driver from - http://intel.ly/22ouEFZ

Create a new local admin account and then check again if the issue is with Auto Sleep or Manual Sleep.
Try a refresh of Win 10 - http://bit.ly/1P81h34

What's the best option for Inspiron 5559 hooking up multiple (2) external monitors, wireless keyboard & mouse?    Is there a docking station for this model?   Or, would I be better off to upgrade the laptop ?
I'm seeing the D3100 listed for using with USB 3.0, but, not seeing very good reviews for it.

Answer:Inspiron 5559 Docking Station

The D3100 has poor reviews because it does not charge the attached system (which many people incorrectly assumed it would since it's called a "docking station") and it uses a DisplayLink chip to drive attached displays. With DisplayLink, displays are not actually driven by the system's GPU. Instead, the system's CPU and GPU compress rendered display data for transmission as standard USB data, and the DisplayLink chip in the dock then decompresses it before sending it to the displays. This allows displays to be attached over regular USB (rather than just USB-C, which actually does have a native GPU output wired to it), but the compression and transmission as regular USB traffic can have some adverse side effects. For example, when large portions of the display area change at once, such as when watching full screen video or gaming, the display can appear to bog down and/or show compression artifacts. This can also occur during periods of high USB activity from other devices (e.g. sustained transfers to/from an external hard drive), which forces display data to compete for USB bandwidth, and during periods of high CPU utilization, which leaves less CPU capacity to compress the display data for transmission over USB.  Lastly, DisplayLink also increases It CPU and GPU utilization overall, which means less performance available for other tasks and faster battery consumption, although the latter admittedly isn't an issue with dock-based implementations... It will focus on a hand if placed about 25-50mm (1-2in) from the webcam lens on the lid but won't focus on anything further away resulting in a blurred fuzzy out of focus image. I've tried this in both bright daylight and low artificial light so nothing to do with the level of the light.
Any help in getting the webcam to focus will be appreciated. Its the first time I've tried to use it since buying this laptop and I can't find any settings that you can change. Or is it just a very poor quality webcam component?

Last night my not quite 2 year old Inspiron 5559 turned off unexpectedly. It has not turned on since. I have tried removing the battery, holding down the power button for up to a minute, put the battrey back in, then tried the power again. No results. The laptop is not turning on at all. It had full battery at the time as I was running it plugged in. Any suggestions? I have a lot of information on this that I need to access.

Thanks in advance.

This is how my screen looks like, those glitches are moving around pretty fast.
When I turn off Intel HD card everything is fine. I'm using newest drivers and it's not fixing it.

Any clues?

Charger replacement is new and Dell brand.Battery jumps to 95% when unplugged, eventually jumps to 100% while plugged up, never shows as charging.

My Inspiron 5559 came pre-installed with Windows 10 and a 1TB hard drive. I installed a Kingston SSD and a clean copy of Windows 7 Home Premium on the new drive. After installing all Windows 7 64-bit drivers from Dell's web page everything was great except that everything to do with USB 2.0 is missing from ...
Universal Serial Bus controllersIntel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host ControllerIntel USB 3.0 Root HubRealtek USB 2.0 Card ReaderUSB Mass Storage Device
In any typical Windows installation, this section lists several 'Generic USB Hub' and 'USB Root Hub' entries but I'm completely without them. Even Services is missing 'USB Safely Remove Assistant'
I suspect this is the reason Windows Backup and Restore is unable to see connected USB drive when I booted recovery DVD to perform a restore. No drive, no image found.
I'm at a loss as to what might have caused this. This is a fresh install and laptop is just a few months old.

Hi,
I bought a new laptop from Currys at the end of September for my daughter as she was heading to University. A month later she phoned to say that the screen had failed. When I took it back to Currys they assessed it and said the screen was cracked. As this was "damage" it was not covered by warranty. My daughter is adamant the laptop never moved from her desk in her room and was only opened and closed by her, therefore how this damage was caused is a mystery to us.
I was reluctantly going to pay for a repair but neither Currys nor my local repair shop was able to locate a replacement screen so now I am stuck with a brand new laptop that is unusable and seemingly unrepairable.
This is the third Dell laptop we have purchased and we have also had three PC's and to be fair have never had any issues with any of them until now.
As such I would be grateful if someone could advise on what to do next.
Thank you.
MAJ

Hello.
I own a Dell Inspiron 5559 with a i5 6260u CPU.
I have a problem with the right speaker. It stopped working properly, there is a constant buzzing. I tried to reinstall the driver, to troubleshoot it, I performed a sound card check, but everything showed up as being fine. The left speaker works perfectly, only the right one has problems. I don't know what to do with it, looks like a hardware problem.

Good Morning,
We have the laptop for several months and we began to have problem with it last week, LCD do't turn on, and the front light of the laptop flash 2 orange and 7 white ?
If I plug and exrernal monitor on the HDMI port it works. !
1- I did the test  by pressing the D key when powering on the laptop  and I see the colors
2- I ran the Diag  from F12  and received error 2000-0415 validation 119822
3- I updated the bios
4- I updated the video driver
In the system information of the bios it says
Panel type = Unknown Panel
Native resolution = 0 by 0
What can I do, sometimes removing and putting back  the battery will cure the problem for 1 boot, next time nothing !?

I sent computer back for repairs now the keyboard does not light with touch or come on at startup. I tried to install enhancement package 2.2 as suggested but said remove newer version first. I can see it in progams to remove. They had to replace KWH3G - LCD and Accessory, KD4T9 - Cables and Cords, and94MFG - Daughterboard. The board works manually with Fn and F10. I changed Bios to 100% but only came on once. Computer just 5 months old!

Hi,

I recently purchased an Inspiron 15 5559 | i5 6th Gen | AMD Radeon 4GB. It came with a 4GB RAM that I had upgraded to 8 GB (there was one 4GB RAM in Bank 0, DIMM A; I added another similar RAM in Bank 2, DIMM B). System Information would show 8 GB Installed Memory and 4 GB Usable Memory. But the second RAM has never worked. After trying all basic troubleshooting tips (e.g. msconfig, etc.). Nothing has worked.
Today I tried juggling both the RAMs and the DIMM slots. Both the RAMs worked in Bank 0, DIMM A but none of them worked in Bank 2, DIMM B, which leads me to believe that my Motherboard is damaged. However, if it was damaged why/how does system information detect 8GB Installed Memory.
Thanks for any help.

Sushant.

Hi,
I recently bought Dell inspiron 15 5559 laptop. It is i7-6500u @ 2.50GHz  2.60GHz with 8Gb ram. The problem I have is it freezes a lot. It even freezes while watching a movie or browsing chrome. I've run the Dell online diagnostics tool as well as system diagnostics but it passed every test without any problems. Some times it wont freeze for a long time and sometimes it would freeze a lot.
I would be thankful for the help.

Answer:Brand new Dell Inspiron 15 5559 freezes

You need to start gathering info about the exact circumstances when the problems are occurring.  Is it after a restart or some other event?  Can you tell if the hard drive is working?
Use the Performance page of Task Manger and watch the Drive and CPU usage.  You might open the Resource Monitor and do the same thing.
There are many utilities on my new system put there by Dell.  Also anti-virus and indexing or even log writing utilities can cause high activity on systems.
Basically, just try to be aware of what is happening with the system and if you can tie it to a circumstance or time.  Check the Event Viewer to see if there are recurring errors/warnings.

If it's a memory error you're seeing, try each module one at a time until you find the bad module -- or, if both modules test  bad in one socket, the bad mainboard. If you want warranty service  you'll likely have to return the system to your place of purchase.

Despite the laptop being fairly recent and well maintained, I have a growing fuzzy and flickering screen on my Inspiron 5559; I have tried all online resources, BIST, rebooting the machine, but the problem remains. Sometimes, the line (mostly horizontal for the large lines, but also vertical for the thin lines) are flickering, showing a double screen, sometimes, they are stable. The problem is getting worse and when the screen is flickering, it's impossible to use the latptop. I have plugged the laptop onto a TV (via HDMI) and there is no issue with the picture on the TV Screen. Any clue on how to resolve this issue ?

This is a complicated issue that I've tried very hard for the past month to fix, I've tried absolutely everything I can think of to fix this issue and too explain it I will discuss my thought process:
This is a brand new Dell Inspiron 15-5559 laptop. When I first started the laptop there were no noticeable problems with the laptop, aside from the bloatware. All of a sudden after using the laptop for a couple of days, I noticed that youtube video were no longer working. When trying to view a youtube video, it loads the first frame but will not play it. After refreshing the page the video then tells me "An error has occurred. Please try again later.":

I then used a different browser instead of chrome, trying: Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer. The issue still persists.
I then decided to try restarting the laptop multiple times and youtube was still not working. I decided due to the bloatware anyway to reinstall Windows 10 entirely to both fix the problem and remove the bloatware. After reinstalling all drivers everything was working fine again.Again, after a couple days of usage, youtube stopped working again. After attempting all sorts of flash and browser specific fixes, the problem was still happening. I finally decided to try reinstalling my graphics drivers, both the Intel HD Graphics 520 drivers and the AMD drivers. The problem was then fixed.
However, after restarting the computer again the problem came back. YouTube stopped working... Read more

Hey,

Need help as this is a business use laptop, and work is now not getting done....

Hey guys, I just had a Dell Inspiron 15 5559 delivered to me yesterday and I noticed there wasn't a backlit keyboard installed. At first, I thought it was just off, but after looking around this site and doing some research to first make sure I wasn't just not able to turn it on, I've arrived to this conclusion.
I've tried doing Fn + F10. I've tried Ctrl + F10. I've tried going to Mobility Center and changing multimedia/function key.I also have all my drivers updated and made completely sure everything was updated in case it was just a software issue. I also updated BIOS and went there and checked if I could change keyboard settings there; no luck.
The thing is, my laptop is the touch model and to the extent of my knowledge, all touch models are equipped with a backlit keyboard. So what's going on...? Do I have to pay out another $50 for a backlit keyboard?
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Hi all,
Just got an Inspiron 15-5559 Signature edition from the Microsoft store and I can't figure out how to turn off the keyboard backlight. I want to turn it off to save battery when it's not connected to AC.
I've tried pressing Fn+F10 as well as just F10 when FN is locked. I've installed Quickset and the backlight slider doesn't change the backlight levels at all. I've also went into BIOS and the backlight stays on even if I choose "Disabled".
Any ideas on how to turn it off? Thanks

All,

Probably caused by : Rt64win7.sys ( Rt64win7+1dd04 )
or
Probably caused by : Rt64win7.sys ( Rt64win7+1d836 )
I suspect they're the same error, of course, with different memory addresses.
I've run system cleans (ccleaner), uninstalled all questionable software (McAfee and Norton), and reinstalled different versions of the RT network drivers.

Hello,
I have a problem on my new laptop Dell Insiron 5559.It worked well for some weeks, but now, the integrated screen doesn't work.
The led twinkle white and orange; and the computer seems to work fine except the screen. An external monitor connected by HDMI is working perfectly, but it is "alone": windows doesn't even detect the integrated display.
I also tried some tests procedures:
From the dell support website, every display test is performed on the external monitor.
The tests triggered at start (when pressing Fn + Power) also use the HDMI screen, and detect an error:
Error Code: 0415Validation Code: 121740Service Tag: <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>
The strange thing is that when I start the other test procedure (by pressing D + Power at start), it is the integrated display that is used, and shows perfectly the different colors.
Can someone say what's wrong with this computer?

Brand new laptop, upgraded from factory installed Windows 7 to Windows 10 from Dell-supplied DVD. When plugged into AC adapter, battery charges to 60%, notification says it's plugged in and charging, but battery level never goes above 60%, even after hours on the charger. Updated to most recent BIOS and rolled back one level, no difference.

Answer:Inspiron 5559 battery charging stuck at 60%

Hi JOELCOX,
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed?
Could you test with another power adapter if possible?
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point.
Also, in BIOS, under Power Management -> check if there is custom stop percentage set under primary battery charge configuration.
Update the BIOS and check - http://dell.to/2mTsNtK
After 60% charge, does the battery led reflect any specific pattern while the adapter is plugged in?
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.

I noticed recently my taskbar, sound, and notifications not working after a while using Win 10 Anniversary Update. I installed latest drivers and also the latest Bios update but hasn't helped. I even created a Windows 10 media creation USB tool and did a fresh install. I also went to Dell site and created their Windows 10 install tool and performed the same clean install. Got the same issues with freezing. I'm glad I kept my desktop PC running Windows 7 or I would be rather mad right now. How in the world can one update mess up so much? This seems to be a major issue with PC's that received the Anniversary Update.

Answer:Inspiron 5559 freezes after Anniversary Update Win 10

Hi,
In this we would suggest you to un-install the Update from the system and check if you have the same issue .
Kindly follow the steps below :
To uninstall the Anniversary Update:

Restart your PC. When you get to the sign-in screen, hold the Shift key down while you selectPower > Restart.
After your PC restarts to the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options> Go back to the previous build.  If you don’t see this option, try Method 2.
Method 2: Using the Settings app from Safe Mode
Restart your PC. When you get to the sign-in screen, hold the Shift key down while you selectPower > Restart.
After your PC restarts to the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
After your PC restarts, you'll see a list of options. Select 4 or F4 to start your PC in Safe Mode.
Open the Settings app.
Select Update & security and then the Recovery tab.
Under “Go back to an earlier build”, click the Get started button and follow the instructions.
(Note: The “go back” options will only appear for up to 10 days after installing the Anniversary Update. If more than 10 days have elapsed or the “Go back” option is otherwise not available, we ask for your patience... Read more

Hi,
I have recently been experiencing this problem, "plugged in, not charging." Whenever I connect the charging cord to the laptop, the battery LED indicator comes on, but it disappears in 2-3 secs. The laptop's battery is 0%, so whenever I try to take the cord out, the laptop shuts down. Whenever I use the laptop I have to keep the charging cord plugged into the laptop always. And whenever the laptop turns on, it says the AC adapter is unknown while I'm using the right Dell adapter. Help would be really appreciated!

Hello
As per title, please could someone help me with a clean install of windows 10?
My Dell laptop was kaput straight out of the box and i've struggled to get it repaired fully since it arrived in November last year.
It is a brand new Inspiron 15 series 5559 laptop. It came with windows 10 pre-installed. Aside from updating a few drivers and windows updates I have nothing on this laptop I need to save - no data, software, etc. I really just want to completely wipe and start again.
I have downloaded the windows 10 ISO file from the microsoft website using the media creation tool. I burned the file to a DVD, though I could also put it on a USB pen if that is better?
The bit that I am struggling with (and typically is the bit that gets very vague in all of the tutorials I have been looking at on-line) is how to get the Dell laptop to recognise and boot from the DVD.
People talk about BIOS vs UEFI, disabling secure boot, legacy modes, etc. It all gets a bit confusing.
I think my laptop, being ony 2 months old, is UEFI rather than BIOS, and I have got as far as restarting whilst holding shift to take me to options screen. From there I have tried both "use a device" option, but ended up getting nowhere - it didn't seem to be able to locate the DVD drive, and also the "troubleshoot > Advance Options" which led me to a screen with all of the boot options and I just became confused.
Any help gratefully appreciated
Thanks

This laptop is less than a year old (OS: Windows 10) and is getting the "plugged in not charging error." The unknown AC watt error pops up when booting the laptop and I have to unplug the adapter just to get to the desktop. The AC adapter will sustain the battery although it obviously drains over time when being used, but slowly. The AC adapter and battery are those which came with the laptop. Also, the backlight for the screen and LED light on the laptop do work when I plug in the adapter.
I have tried the following:
- BIOS reset- BIOS update- BIOS Diagnostic Test & Dell Diagnostic Test- Blowing into DC Jack- Testing a new Dell brand/approved ac adapter- Testing a new Dell brand/approved battery- and basically anything else Dell has suggested through its troubleshoot suggestions
Any other thoughts here? Next step is to contact technical support as the laptop is under warranty.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 5559 (New) Plugged in Not Charging

Contact Dell for warranty support - one of three things is bad:  the adapter, the DC jack in the system, or the mainboard.   The warranty will cover the repair (assuming it's not due to a physically damaged adapter or DC jack).

Machine Currently running with Win 7 Pro from DELL.  It supposedly also has Win 10 PRO option, but I see no read me files on how to upgrade. The DVD included with laptop says "Windows 10 PRO 64 bit - USE THIS DISK ONLY TO REINSTALL THE OPERATING SYSTEM"
The Dell tech on the Chat told me to use the DVD and boot off of that. Now computer wont run on anything!
Says:
PXE - E61 Media test failure, check cable.
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM No boot device found.

Answer:How do I activate Windows 10 Pro that came with new Dell Inspiron 5559?

Very confusing question. What machine is running windows 7? Did you order a new computer with windows 7? The free upgrade to windows 10 will work and you will not need to activate it. Don't boot to the dell disk. That is for reinstalling windows 10 not upgrading. Just upgrade the normal way by booting to windows 7 on the new machine and open your browser and go to the upgrade site. Here-
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Windows 7 must be running to get the free upgrade. Do not do a clean install You would not be able to activate a clean install.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15 5559 display problem

Was anything placed on top of the screen, or was the system carried in a bag or case with other objects?
This is damage that resulted from pressure on the front or back of the screen.

I have the latest Intel video driver installed: 20.19.15.4454

Just got this thing Monday last week (.June 6, 2016)

There are 2 issues with this

1) After being on after a while, the driver will crash and is reporting in the Windows message center.
75% of the time the driver will recover, but other times the computer must be restarted.

2) After the system turns the display off (no, not sleep), the display will not resume. The computer is unresponsive and the power button must be pressed for several seconds to force the power off.

Hi All,
I recently got an Inspiron 15-5559 Signature edition from the Microsoft Store. I've been trying to turn off the backlight on the keyboard but none of the methods allowed me to do so.
I've tried pressing Fn+F10, as well as just F10 while the Fn key is locked.
I have also installed Quickset but that isn't working either. The slider in Windows Mobility Center moves but it doesn't change the backlight brightness at all.
Lastly, changing the keyboard illumination settings in BIOS doesn't change the backlit levels either.

Any ideas on how to get it to disable? Thanks

Just check your Short cuts keys and only thing I see is F10 key as you've pointed out.

I will just get a black screen. There is power in laptop since when I press CAPSLOCK the light is being turned on. I do not even see the screen from where we enter boot menu, even when Windows loads correctly.

Hello everyone!
I recently brought the game Battlefield 1 and i discovered a little problem.
Every time i open the game an error occurs. It is telling me to update the driver to .4539 (mine is .4531) or later. When i go to the official website of Dell Support, the latest driver is .4531 . If i ignore the message, the scenes in the campaign mode are beginning to lag badly.
I also can't download the graphic driver on the official website of Intel. This is the message I get when i download the driver from www.downloadcenter.intel.com/
"The driver being installed is not validated for this computer. Obtain the appropriate driver from the computer's manufacturer. Setup will exit."
Here's the message box

Could someone take his time to solve the problem with me?
Thank you in advance!

Sincerely,
Boskan

MODS PLEASE CLOSE THIS THREAD. CAMERA SEEMS TO HAVE FIXED ITSELF AFTER SOME UPDATES AND A RESTART. SORRY!
Gretings all,
I'm an IT in South Florida and I'm trying to help a client with her Inspiron 5559 camera. She's had this laptop for a while and I haven't been over in quite some time, however a problem from before seems to persist on.
When the laptop was brand new, the integrated camera - an Intel RealSense 3D - worked fine. Used Skype without a hitch and even took pictures with the Windows camera app. A month or so later it stopped working altogether. No apps can detect it and when I check the Device Manager and try to update the driver it's reported as being the most current. I've tried uninstalling it and restarting the computer but the driver it reinstalls fails to do anything. It's been so long I figured this problem would've been fixed by now! I gave her a USB camera to use as a substitute but she's getting tired of having to carry it with her everywhere she brings the computer. I fear the camera or this particular unit is defective and she may have to get another brand of laptop instead.
Hoping to find some kind of help. Thanks!

I just bought a brand new Inspiron 15 5559 that comes with Windows 10 Version 1511 and I want to upgrade or swap the HD with an SSD.  I did some reading, a lot of reading and I found mixed replies some which were not applicable to me.  The main issues that remain are as follows:
1. Can I plug the SSD on this model to the optical drive?  Is the optical drive Sata 2 or 3?  Or should I plug it into the HD slot?

2.  How do I go about transferring Windows, drivers, etc to the SSD?

Any help and extra tips or advice is appreciated as well!!!

I thank you in advance...

Answer:Dell Inspiron 5559 (i7 6500U, 8GB RAM) Upgrading to SSD

1.  Only if you can find an adapter for one (Dell doesn't produce one, so you'll have to look third-party).
The optical drive is SATA 3G, so you won't get the maximum impact out of an SSD.  Better would be to replace the HDD with a 2.5" SSD and move the hard drive to an adapter if you can find one.
2.  There are cloning utilities (Macrium Reflect, Acronis TrueImage) you can use to clone the existing setup to the new drive.  NEVER boot the system for the first time with both drives attached.  Shut down after cloning and remove the original drive leaving only the new one.  Once you've successfully booted Windows, you can reinstall the new drive and format it for storage.

Hi there!
My dell 5559 keyboard is not working as i accidently spilled some coke on it...
I got the keyboard replaced but the keyboard quality is very poor , i am having alot of trouble while typing.
i have another laptop Dell Inspiron 15-5542 , can i use the keyboard of Dell Inspiron 15-5542 as replacement for my Dell Inspiron 15-5559???
Thanks in advance

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15-5559 Keyboard Problem

Hi USMAN GHAURI,
What is the exact issue with the replacement keyboard? Where have you purchased the keyboard from?
The keyboard layout ideally depends on the system. So, if the 5542 and the 5559 have the same keyboard layout, then you could replace and use it accordingly.
The layout depends on the region and language as well. The # of keys on a standard US keyboard for 5559 is 101 keys. It will vary for the other language layouts.

I have an Insprion 5559 laptop that I bought in March 2016. I am not a fan of this computer in general because it is often quite slow. Last night, not for the first time, I was unable to save my work in Excel without it freezing up and the program crashing. In the past, I have fixed this by updating Office. I couldn't see how to do that last night (I always just find the update from a banner that appears at the top telling me there is an Office update, but there was no such banner), but I did have a windows update. So I started installing that and went to bed. I don't know what the update was, but I think it was a features update. I think I was most recently on Win 10 1703.
This morning, I went to use the computer and it was asleep/unresponsive. I held down the power button to kill it and then turned it back on. It showed me the Dell logo, then went black, then the next thing I knew, it was off again. I tried turning back on, and this time after the logo it went to an all gray screen with pixel-y gray lines across the entire screen. Eventually that went away and it went black again. I never got into Windows or even the login screen.
I am seeing all these diagnostic tools to check hardware, but if I can't even boot to Windows, how do I run those? I guess it could be a screen issue, but I don't know why that would have just gone bad overnight. The battery has not shown any issues so far and I have still been able to get ~2 hours out of it. I don't thin... Read more

Answer:Inspiron 5559 won't boot fully after update

The Dell diagnostics can be accessed by pressing F12 a few times at powerup - a boot menu will appear.  Choose Diagnostics and run an extended test -- particuarly on the hard drive.

I have the Dell Inspiron 5559 for a while and working perfectly.
One day the shortcut keys in the keyboard stopped working (volume up, down, mute, etc.).
I didn't find any relevant driver in the site and updating all other drivers didn't help.
I'm running windows 10.
Any idea about what can i do about it?

thanks
