X1 Carbon, X1 Yoga do not wake up after sleep mode -- issue continues across thinkpad generations

Question: X1 Carbon, X1 Yoga do not wake up after sleep mode -- issue continues across thinkpad generations

Over the past several years there are many posts of users experiencing variations on this problem with X1 Carbon and X1 Yoga of various generations, including the latest ones (I provide a list below). That is, the systems often cannot come out of sleep mode in some way, shape, or form. I had this problem on my own brand-new X1 Carbon 5th Generation, right out of the box. In my instance, I noticed this issue in the following two scenarios: -After having gone in to sleep mode, once I opened the lid, or press power button once:power light goes from blinking to solid onscreen stays blank/blackseems that if the machine is going to be in the frozen state, keyboard presses do not "unsleep" it (which they normally would). Closing the lid causes the power light to go to solid on, but then opening it again does nothing.in a couple of rarer instances, the machine actually did come out of sleep but then instantly the screen froze (but this was quite uncommon, mostly it just wouldn't come out of sleep at all)-After passing the initial boot screen of Lenovo, the next part shows the Lenovo logo but without the swirling dots and is frozen (the power light would show on)Under both conditions: The power light is solid onThe keyboard lights functionality works: backlighting, FnLock light, mute lightSometimes you can hear the fan workingPlugging in to external display does not display anything on itThe only way to rectify is to do a hard shutdown by holding the power key With my machine, this was happening about 25% of the time when it would go into sleep mode -- this completely defeats the purpose of having a "portable" laptop if you can't depend on it waking up. On the freezing during boot, I would say that it was much less common, maybe 10% of the time. After a couple of tech support calls, tech support surmised it was a faulty motherboard that needed to be replaced. To have a brand-new laptop needing a motherboard replacement was disappointing, and it was also clear that it wasn't even certain that that would solve the issue. When I offered to send my system's event logs, they weren't interested. Given the raft of similar issues I have found on this forum (see list below), is it really plausible that the production process at Lenovo is so bad that faulty motherboards are created often? Seems unlikely, and nevertheless, several of the past posts say that replacing the motherboard didn't even solve the problem. So it seems the problem lays somewhere else. I'm writing to ask Lenovo staff -- are you even aware that this is a multi-generational crashing issue?I have to ask the question because it keeps on coming up even to the present day, so it seems as if the root of the problem has not yet been addressed -- here's my compilation of topics related to this issue, some of which date back over 3 years: X1G5 fails to wake up - Lenovo CommunityThinkpad X1 yoga wont wake up from sleep mode - Lenovo CommunityX1 Carbon (4th gen 2016) doesn't wake when lid is opened - Lenovo CommunityX1 Carbon 4th Gen-Black screen hang on sleep - Lenovo CommunityThinkpad Yoga, not waking up after sleep - Lenovo CommunityLenovo X1 carbon (20FC) sleep mode/shut down issue in windows 10 - Lenovo CommunityX1 Carbon 2016 (20FB) display doesn't work after opening the lid and waking from sleep - Lenovo Comm...X1 Yoga (and Yoga 260) not waking from sleep - Lenovo CommunityNew X1 Carbon with blank screen - Lenovo Communitythinkpad yoga is not response to power button in sleep mode - Lenovo CommunityMicrosoft forum discussion on same topic: Lenovo X1 Carbon won't wake up from sleep after Windows 10 upgrade - Microsoft Community What could be consistently causing this problem over the years? Is it BIOS issues? Or is it perhaps interaction with Windows during wake up? Perhaps it's something to do with the TPM? Or perhaps something with OPAL and encrypted drives? (I note that in my specific machine, I was using encryption, and had the 512 MB OPAL Samsung SSD -- not sure if that is common among all the posts above) I'm not even writing for assistance for me -- I actually returned the machine (since it happened as soon as I got it, I was able to return it, unlike users who had had older machines -- Lenovo customer support was pretty helpful to me in that regard). I'm writing because I would actually want to buy a X1 Carbon again in the future, because it was otherwise a fantastic machine. But I'm only going to do so if this issue is going to be finally resolved at some point. Otherwise, the machine is unusable as a portable device due to potential for data loss. Many thanks in advance!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi lenanto!

The automatic forum SPAM filter moved your post aside, because it had so many links in it I think. With some help I was able to get it back. The other multiple posts on the same subject have been moved aside - it's just too hard to follow a discussion when it's splintered across threads.

I have had and still have several X1 Carbon's and X1 Yoga's and have not seen any of these problems. Do you have any thoughts on how to reproduce it?

Hi all, There are a number of posts regarding issues with power save: Not able to go to sleep mode, reboot etc.  I have completely lost an overview of where this solution was presented, so here's a recap of what worked for me: I have been digging through many posts on both here and on some of the other manufacturer's forum pages. I think the problem is in a large part related to the intel management engine version 11. Downgrading this to version 10 seem to solve the power management issue completely.  It isn't difficult to fix and should take you about 10 minutes.Note: I am writing this guide from a danish version of windows 10, so some of the translations may seem odd / wrong on a native english windows 10.Note: Your PC might explode, earth might be invaded by aliens if you follow my steps, so do it at you own risk, I am not responsible for any troubles you might run into afterwards! Go to Settings -> System -> Apps and functions. Find Intel Management Engine Interface and uninstall it.Go to http://support.lenovo.com/dk/da/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-... and download the exeInstall it and reboot. I tried to go to power immediately afterwards and it didn't work, but it did after a reboot.Your yoga should be able to sleep once again.(optional) Use a tool from microsoft to disable updates to the management engine interface.   https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930Open th... Very frustrating... My X1 Carbon, using Windows 8.0 (due to corporate policy I am not allowed to upgrade to 8.1 nor downgrade to 7.0) which includes 4 Gigs of RAM, and an Intel SSD, if placed into sleep mode (either by closing the lid or pressing the FN-F4 button), will not wake from sleep mode if the machine has been in sleep mode for a while (guessing anything over an hour.)  Yes, Yes, I know pressing the FN key should bring the computer out of sleep-mode, but the FN key doesnt work.  The only thing that works is to completely shut-down the computer and turn the computer back on, which naturally causes the machine to completely reboot. Any and all help would be appreciated.

Answer:X1 Carbon: after opening the lid in sleep mode it does not wake up

Hi Asher,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your Lenovo ThinkPad X1 carbon doesn?t wake up from sleep properly.

I would suggest you to try installing the latest version of display drivers and Lenovo Power management driver and check if it resumes from sleep normally.

If the above said didn?t help, try the "reset" hole on the bottom of the laptop. You'd use a paper clip to trip the switch.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

I just received my brand new 3rd generation X1 carbon... but since the 1st day i received it last week, it has trouble waking from sleep mode. It usually happens every 4 - 5 times a day. I have searched online and it seems a lot of people are having this issue. I have updated BIO, checked all drivers if anything needs to be updated, even turned off intel rapid storage off, nothing works. If this problem cannot be resolved i probably wont return this laptop... priced at 2k and doesnt even work properly in its 1 st week of service.

Question says it all for the most part.  Just got my Yoga 260.  Works great expect it will NEVER wake from sleep.  this is a huge problem obviously as I have to do a hard reboot by holding hte power button in until it dies then press again to boot the machine. power light blinks just as it should in sleep but nothing will allow it to wake except holding power button down doing a hard shutdown then reboot.  Anyone have a fix for this?  Thanks.

After a clean install of Windows 10 Anniversary edition, I had an issue with my Thinkpad Yoga not resuming from sleep, requiring a hard reboot every time. I made sure to perform the updates in the support article ThinkPad Yoga cannot wake up from sleep mode but those didn't help. The ultimate solution was to downgrade the Intel Management Engine Interface driver to the 9.x version from Lenovo's site. The default Windows 10 installation installed version 11.x of that driver, which apparently causes this issue with failing to resume. (Note that the Lenovo System Update tool does not identify this as a needed update since the Lenovo driver version is older, so you have to download and apply the older driver manually.) After doing this, the system now sleeps and resumes perfectly. Hopefully this can help someone else, and maybe the above support article could be updated to include this advice too.

I bought a new Thinkpad Yoga 14 (20DM/Broadwell). Gorgeous machine, but it refuses to wake from sleep on a keypress or click on the trackpad. It will wake up if I close and re-open it. I updated all of the drivers and the bios using Lenovo's utilities and Windows System Update. When that didn't work, I tried updating the Intel Integrated graphics drivers and GeForce drivers with the latest packages from Intel and NVIDIA, downgraded the Intel Management Engine to version 10, and disabled hybrid sleep. No dice. So I resorted to a clean re-install of Windows 10 from a USB key and updated all of the Lenovo drivers (again) using ThinkVantage System Update. "Allow this device to wake the computer" was and is checked in the Device Manager for both the keyboard and trackpad. Is there anything I can do to get it working? Only a couple days left to figure this out before my return period ends.

Hello everyone Was any update pushed in the last two weeks which affected the wake up from sleep mode? I"m certain that in the last two weeks atleast once or twice I saw the shutdown screen saying installing an update. Ever since when I open the lid to resume from sleep state it takes a good 3-4 minutes for the screen/system to wake up...what gives? I haven't installed any major in my comp in the last month or so I'm not able to figure out why this is happening. Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to provide.

Hello, Community So my 4 day old laptop is having sleep/wake problems. If the screen sleeps because of the 10 minute timer I have it on, it CANNOT be woken up. The screen stays black, but everything else is "on." The Fn key is green and the LED on the ThinkPad logo is always on, not pulsing. Nothing I do will wake up the screen. I have to do a hard shutdown and then turn it back on. Once it's back on all apps/windows are closed and I need to restart everything manually. This problem also occurs if I put it to sleep by closing it, or by going to power>sleep and closing the laptop. Basically I keep having to hard shut down to get the screen to wake up.  Other than this problem, I love the laptop. So it sucks that it's having this issue.  Help..please.

Hi, I recently purchased a Thinkpad X1 Yoga, shipped on May 16, 2016.  I have an issue:     When I use the left side USB port (the one on the side of the power charging port) to charge my old Ipod and the laptop goes to sleep. The laptop does not wake up when opening the lid or pressing on the power button. However, as soon as I disconnect my Ipod from the USB port. The laptop immediately wakes up but unable to login using the fingerprint reader. Specific steps to reproduce: 1) Plug x1 yoga power cord to the laptop 2) Plug Ipod to the left side USB port. Make sure Ipod has no earphones plugged in. 3) Put the laptop in sleep mode 4) Close the lid of the laptop 5) Wait until iPod is no longer being charged by the laptop (a few seconds after the laptop goes to sleep) 6) Wait until iPod automically turns off on its own (it takes 15 to 30 mins, not sure exactly how much time.) 7) Open the laptop lid and notice that the laptop is not waking up. 8) Press on the "power" button on the right side of the X1 Yoga. Notice that the laptop does not wake up. 9) Remove the iPod from the USB port on the left side of the X1 Yoga.        Notice that the laptop is now able to wake up.        Also notice that the finger print reader is not responding. Cannot login using the fingerprint reader. Seems like a driver issue. Lenovo please confirm! ThanksWilly

Hey Guys, Just recently purchased a Y2P (i7 256gb) less than a week ago. The issue i am currently experiencing is when i wake the laptop from sleep, usually at least 15 mins of sleep, the laptop will come up but then the system is considerably laggy/slow & then becomes completely unresponsive so much to the point that it seems as if it freezes. I am not able to move the mouse (trackpad & usb mouse) & the keyboard buttons do not work/register anymore. Pressing the power button does not put the laptop back to sleep but i can still see everything on the screen from where i left off before closing the lid & the laptop goes into sleep mode. Only way i can recover from this issue is to do a hard reset by holding the power button until the machine powers off & then to boot it back up. Also, i have updated the BIOS & did all the windows updates from a clean install of Windows 8.1 (different from a factory reset) in order to avoid the Superfish vulnerability. All the drivers have been installed as well (confirmed by the Device Manager). Any other people experiencing the same problem & have any potential fix for this issue? Any help on this matter would be much appreciated.

Lenovo, what is this? This never happened on my Asus computer so why is it happening on my 'premium' mobile workstation? Is there a fix that is being prepared for this, or is this falling on deaf ears? When the computer goes into a hibernating/sleep mode, it doesn't fully awake from sleep mode. The monitor is left in a black screen state, while other components of the computer are in a functioning state. In order to rectify the problem, a physical shutdown is required (and then physically booting the computer up again). Is there a planned fix for this? This device is only 3 days old. I can easily return it if this persists and this falls on deaf ears.

Hi all,

I just finished building my first computer yesterday. Everything seems to be working just great, except when I put my computer in sleep mode and try to wake it up.

Here is my issue: When I put my computer to sleep, it works fine. When I try to wake it up (by pressing power button or hitting key on keyboard), it powers on for a brief second and then shuts down. The only way to get it back on is by pressing the power button again, resetting the pc. I just want to know how to set it up so when i hit a key on my keyboard it will wake up with no issues. Side notes: I have disabled hybrid sleep mode and clicked the box to allow keyboard to wake computer.

Please help. Thank you.

Hi Hello Just got my new X1 yoga, but even after reading the manual, couldn't figure out how to resume it from sleep? Getting it to sleep easy, lid down, windows menu or F4. When I came back to it, the screen is off, the fingerprit scanner has a light, but I cannot manage to get it back on unless i press 1 or 2 times on the power button, and then it resumes. Any other ways to do it?? I'm used just to press any key/mouse, to get it to resume, my old surface was like that. Sorry for the basic question, but the power button sometime takes as long time, as I think it's restarting the computer. Thank you

Answer:ThinkPad X1 Yoga how to resume from sleep mode??

Pressing the Fn key might do it if it has only been in sleep mode for a while, but after a period of time set under the power plan setting, it will go into hibernation mode  to save the battery power (it basically writes the system state to a file called hiberfil.sys, and powers off), and in that case you have to press the power button to resume. This might help too even though it does not explicitly mention your model.https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht075624 Take Care,

Hi,

Hopefully someone who knows more about power management than me can help out!

I bought a Satellite C50D-A-13N a few days ago and it has been fine.
However, I've had an issue with sleep mode a couple of times.

The laptop will go into sleep mode as expected (when the lid is shut or when I press the power button). However, when I press the power button to turn it back on, it comes to life for a few seconds - the screen is on and I can move the mouse and interact with stuff - but then goes straight back into sleep mode again after a few seconds. All I can do to get it to work is to shut it down completely by holding down the power button and restarting, which I REALLY hate doing.

The laptop is fully charged and happy plugged in or unplugged.

Has anyone experienced this issue in Windows 8.1 before?

Thanks,

Julez

Hello, i recently purchased a thinkpad yoga 15 laptop with i7, 8gb ram, geforce gpu, 256gb SSD, Windows 8.1 Pro. My question is: how can I make it charge while in sleep mode? also, downloads stop in sleep mode (ie Steam) This is very inconvenient as the laptop will apparently only charge while totally on and open. Naturally, I don't want to leave my laptop on and open to anyone's use in my room, I want to keep it locked via sleep mode. I want it to be charged when I get back. To sum up, I want to a) charge laptop while it's in sleep mode, and b) don't stop downloads while in sleep mode. Thank you this is my first post on lenovo forums :]

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga becomes irresponsive while trying to wake up from sleep mode.

If your computer stops responding, press and hold the power button for four seconds or more. If the computer still is not responding, remove the ac power adapter and reset the computer by inserting a needle or a straightened paper clip into the emergency reset hole to turn off the computer.

Hope this helps!

I recently realized that my computer is unable to enter sleep mode, regardless whether I try to use the power button or close the lid (the display shuts off, but then freezes for several minutes, and ultimately shuts down instead of going to sleep). Strangely, on rare occasions, I found that closing the lid did cause my computer to sleep rather than shut down. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and/or how I can resolve this issue? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

This is my third X1 (all different generations) and I was very happy up till now. The problematic one has a Skylake processor and 512GB SSD and it seemed like a really nice config. The problem is that it doesn't want to shutdown nor wake up from sleep.First symptom: when shutting down, the pc seems to have shut down, but is still draining battery. If the keyboard FN-lock button is lighted, you can notice that this stays on. Also the fan will stay on if it was running before. The keyboard is even still responsive and you can turn on and off the different LEDs.Second symptom: when the pc goes to sleep, there is no waking it up. Also here the keyboard stays responsive for fn-lock etc.I've tried many things: reinstall windows 10 from scratch, reset the bios, upgrade the bios. Then Lenovo was actually very helpful to start: they swapped out the motherboard and when that didn't work, shipped the pc to a repair center. From here it went downhil: the repair was done in less than 5 hours according to the ticket (so I was impressed) but when I got the pc back I noticed why: they didn't repair it. They put on an image of windows 7 and since there the problem was not visible, called it fixed. Very frustrating. I put back windows 10 and guess what: the problem was exactly the same. When they shipped the pc, they had created a new ticket in the system, closing the original one. Now they even closed the second ticket although I already commented that the pc still doesn't work as it is supposed... Read more

In fact, I have a long story in dealing with Lenovo Laptops. At first, I bought my first Lenovo laptop around July. It turned out that whenever the laptop is a bit away (next room or 5 meters away) from the internet router, the wifi connection was very weak comparing to other laptop at the same time and place and ultimately it went into the 'Limited' phase i.e. wifi does not work at all. People from Lenovo solution centre tried their best to repair but did not work out. Ultimately they suggested to get the laptop back and buy another new one. So I did. And I bought a ''better'' Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 14 20DM in September 2015 and few problems as of following appeared:  1. Very weak internet connection in distance (5-10 meters or next rooms) from the router (compared to other normal laptops) and ultimately showed 'Limited or Begrenz (in German language)' sign (with yello point on the wifi icon) even though it did not happened so often like my first laptop. 2. I put the laptop in sleep mode and when I opened the laptop after few minutes, the laptop is already shut down. I noticed this many times since November (I did not use my laptop so often in September and October because I was in research). 3. Screen Rotation worked when I bought it in September. After that, I did not rotate the screen again. But I tried to rotate the screen few days ago and it did not rotate. It stopped screen rotatio... Read more

Hi All, I've been experience troubles with issues ralated to sleeping. Sometimes it just sleeps well. Sometimes my Y2P sometimes won't go sleep(insomnia???). The screen goes off but the fan doesn't stop and the keyboard backlit doesn't go off. And whatever I do won't wake it up in this circumstance, for example hitting a key on the keyboard, hitting the power button, or touch the screen. I have to restart to enter the OS. (FYI VirtualBox may cause this problem but I was not running it. I don't even have it installed.) And sometimes it does go sleeping and can be waken up, but during the sleep the fan doesn't stop and the machine becomes very hot. This seems to happen only under the power manager high performance mode but I'm not sure. Twice I just closed my laptop and went to bed. and left the poor Y2P baking-hot overnight. As a result, the battery capacity estimate in the power manager is now 'Normal'. I believe it was 'Excellent' or 'Good' when I first received it. (FYI the capacity is now 54760mWh.) I really love this machine. Yellow issue is not a killer but the sleep problem does troubles me a lot. I'm not able to return it because I just passed the 15-day return period. Any suggestion to solve those problem, folks? -K

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro - Sleep mode issue

Hey hey, just got my y2p today, swithcing from an x220t I have this too! but mine's a little different...I'm noticing that shutdown is taking a really long time while the restart is instantaneous. but the reason why i note this is that whenever I close my lid (to go to sleep, the computer initiates shut down! I was trying to figure out why it was "stuck" in sleep mode and then the more i looked into it i realized it wasn't sleeping but rather it was shutting down.  I don't care if shut down takes a while, because i almost never shut down (and by a while, I'm talking like 3/4 minutes) but I don't know how to stop it from shutting down instead of going to sleep!

I have an issue with my Yoga 900 not reacting when putting it into sleep mode. I have tried chaning my sleep and wake up settings and the laptop is supposed to wake up upon use of the keyboard or mouse, but nothing happens. Also hitting the power button doesn't help. The only solution is a hard reset. This is particularly annoying when the computer goes into sleep automatically. Does anyone else have this problem? Any ideas for a solution?

I have been using T42 for the past year. When i close the lid and open again, T42 does  not come out of the sleep mode. When i restart my laptop there is no display on the screen or nothing happens except the 'Z' light "Power Status Indicator and the Battery light is visible rest all are not. This things happend only when it goes only in the sleep mode. I have to keep the pc Shut down for few days (Minimum 3 days and Max a month) without any use, then i start the laptop it starts normally. So right now i have remove the sleep mode option when the lid is closed and when the battery is low. IBM guys told me that there is some issue integrated Graphics card on the mother board, that needs to be replaced. But i am not sure whether that is right solution, as computer seems to work fine when i have removed the Sleep option. Need some help how to reslove this sleep mode issue?Message Edited by bthaker on 04-21-2008 10:21 AMMessage Edited by bthaker on 04-21-2008 10:22 AM

Today my X1 carbon won't wake up after closing the lid, it's happened twice in row, and I've had to hold the power button until the system turns off to reboot. The sleep indicator lights flash quickly, I've never noticed this before, here's a little video with this blinking LEDs: https://vine.co/v/bEgd3AgAbtJ I run linux, and updated the kernel yesterday, but I've closed/opened the lid a couple of times since then, and it worked fine.. The user manual said the LEDs will blink green if waking from hiberation, but I don't use hibernate, and i've waiting 10-20 minutes for a change.. With AC power and without. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi,

I am new here. Hoping someone can help me out with this issue. I work in IT so am not a complete computer bonehead and am at my wits end with this.

My laptop is about 4 years old, it's a toshiba. For whatever reason, it started taking 5+ minutes to wake up from sleeping. If it sleeps for an hour, it's OK.. but if you leave it sleep all night and try to wake it up in the morning, it's quite cranky. After the 5+ minute wake up, it performs as normal. It was running Windows 7 Home 32 bit.

Troubleshooting steps that I have taken are as follows.

Reinstalled windows. Issue was resolved! but after about 2-3 weeks, issue came back. I thought maybe it was some type of windows update, so I reinstalled windows again and paid closer attention to the updates. Issue presented itself again after 2-3 weeks, and there were no updates immediately done prior to it starting.

I started to think maybe it was something related to my hard drive, so i performed laptop surgery and swapped out my original hard drive with a solid slate drive, and installed windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit (this laptop can support 64 bit so I figured why not upgrade.).

issue again was resolved for a few weeks, and now it's back to taking 5+ minutes to wake up again.

If you're turning the laptop on from scratch, it takes 10-15 seconds tops. if you're restarting, it's 10-15 seconds tops (man, I love SSD...)... if you're waking itup within the hour, its 1-2 seconds. But anything longer then that, 5+ minutes.

Dear Lenovo, I've noticed this issue many times already. The issue is I put my laptop into sleep, next morning it restore in hibernation mode meaning sometime during the night it woke up automatically, doing nothing until the battery runs to the hybernation threshold into hybernation mode. I'm running Windows 7 on ThinkPad X1 Carbon (3448). Please help.

Answer:X1 Carbon automatically wake up after sleep.

It could be caused by several things. AFAIK, try these settings that can help prevent the laptop while it's asleep. Go to your BIOS and make sure to replicate these pictures:  Also, the WiFi adapter can cause unwanted wake ups. You can try to prevent it by going to Device Manager -> Network Adapters -> Double Click on the name of your WiFi adapter. Then follow this picture: Make sure that "Wake on Magic Packet" and "Wake on Pattern Match" are both disabled. Hope this helps.

I manually put the system to sleep via the Start menu (or whatever it's called now).  Usually, when I come back and hit the power button, it resumes just fine.  But it seems that every now and then, it gets totally stuck.  The green light on the power button is blinking slowly, but the machine won't respond at all.  I press the power button, press the enter button, do everything I can think of, but it stays off.  This happens on battery and on AC.  It's not easily reproducible; it's done it maybe two or three times in the past week that I've had it.  I'm looking for some pattern but haven't found it.   The only resolution I've found is to hold down the power button until I get full power off.  Then I can boot from scratch, losing anything I had open at the time of the sleep.  Any ideas?

I've had this too...seems to me to be a Windows 8.1 issue.  Frustrating, especially coming from a MacBook Air which is pretty flawless in the reliability, dependability and battery life department.

Hi Akjs,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

This kind of issue might also occur if the graphic driver version is incorrect. To verify it go to start and type ?Device Manager? and double click on that to open, expand graphic adapter and right click on it go properties, click on drivers tab to get the driver version.

To update the system drivers & application you can use ThinkVantage system update utility.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

I have a brand new X1 Carbon 3rd Gen laptop.  Am having intermittent (3 to 4x daily) wake-up-from-sleep issues.  When my screen is closed and I reopen it to continue working, the green light on the power button does not light up and no buttons will wake up the laptop so I hard-press the power button, which resets everything.  Called many times for support and was asked to return it for an exchange.  Just received my second laptop and it is behaving exactly the same.  I've done a ton of on-line research and tried a lot of things, including changing settings under power management.  What am I doing wrong??

Is there a fix for this?  I just ran the latest update as of 11/15/2015.   Prevoiusly on Windows 8.1, sleep worked fine. Now, all it does is try to boot, but shuts down and goes into a loop. So, the only way to get it back running again is to hold down the power button.  But what's the point of putting it in sleep mode if I have to do that each time?

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

I have upgraded to Windows 10. Any time my laptop goes to sleep, I cannot wake it up without restarting by holding the power button for 10 seconds. When it goes to sleep the power light stays on and you can hear the fan. The screen is off and does not wake up with touch of the windows touch button, touch pad, keyboard, or single press of the power button. I cannot remember if this started before or after I installed Windows 10. Things I have tried:Updating BIOSChanging power setting to turn off display "never" There have been similar issues reported for yoga tablets that have fixes, but those don't apply to my notebook or Windows 10 unfortunately. I've seen similar issue for yoga 2 pro, but no clear fixes.

Hi all, Facts :Last august 30th, I ordered a Lenovo Yoga 3 14 (i5 / 8 / 256) from Amazon. It's been delivered one week ago (02/09/15).Two days ago (monday), I installed Kaspersky antivirus, downloaded the files for Windows 10, closed the screen and it went to sleep...And never woke up again ! I tried any and every keys / switches combo I thought of (power switch w/o volume switchs + and -, Novo switch, function keys, Ctrl/alt/ del, ctrl/shift/esc, escape, spacebar, enter... Right now, the power led is still on, the PC runs on battery and I'm waiting for it to run out of charge.I can hear and feel a very tiny ventilation from the back. The USB ports are active since my phone and an external HDD are plugged in them. The keyboard doesn't respond or enlight itself anymore. Despite all my tryings, I get no sound from the speakers... So I hope I will be able to reboot it and find a suitable solution (BIOS, driver update ?).The Yoga is new (one week old) and I'm yet already struggling to bring it back to life !!!!! Question :Is there any way to manually shut down the computer (the power switch for 60 sec doesn't work, the battery can't be taken out, no reset pin hole...) ? LENOVO, please HELP !!!!!I was so happy of this computer, don't let yous customer down. PS : As soon as the battery turns off, I'll try to save the PC and let you know how it goes.Sadly, I'm already considering to turn it back.

Recently bought a Yoga 15. When I shut the lid the computer won't sleep and thus the battery is dead the next morning. Or when the computer sleeps upon shutting the lid I can't get the computer to easily wake by pressing the power button and thus have to hold the power button and do a hard boot or press the reset button on the back of laptop (fyi - the reset button is a design flaw, its the size of needle and not a paperclip, who carries a needle with them). Confirm that I have the most recent bios and tried various configuration of the power options to no avail. Please advise. How can I get the computer to properly sleep upon closing the lid?

Hi everybody. This is just a public service message regarding an issue I've encountered. I've found that my Yoga 900 does not "wake up" after it has gone to sleep while connected to an external monitor. I'm connected to an HP 27VX monitor through a USB Type C to HDMI adapter. I found that my Yoga wakes up without issue if the display has turned off (power options turn off display settings) but it doesn't wake up if it goes to sleep when connected to the monitor. The issue though is not that it doesn't wake up, the issue is that for some reason when connected to the monitor it never truly goes to sleep (slow blinking white light). I think it gets hung up somehow when trying to go to sleep. When it enters this mode the power light is solid white and the only fix is to power cycle the Yoga. I'm not sure why it won't successfully go to sleep when connected to a monitor but my guess is some type of driver/hardware issue between the USB type C, HDMI adapter, and the monitor. I've verified that all works as intened when I'm not connected to the monitor. My workaround is to go to power options and turn my sleep option (when plugged in) to "Never". Not a solution by any means, just a workaround until all players involved (Lenovo, HP) figure out how to work with the new USB Type C port. Hope this helps. Rob

S1 Yoga: Windows 10 - Sleep/Wake Problems - lenovoHi everyone,Having an issue with his ThinkPad S1 Yoga ever since he upgraded to Windows 10 back in July. I am now running the most current update that was released last month and I am still having issues with Sleeping and Waking the Notebook. All the drivers are up-to-date and it's running the most current biosWhen shutting down the computer it will not fully shut down, resulting in the battery draining and the little red light on the lid will blink very quickly - The only fix is to hard reset the PC by holding the power button. When the Notebook is on battery power and goes to sleep for being idle - it cannot be woken up and the only way to get the PC to work again is to hard reset again - meaning he loses all his work.I purchased this from the Microsoft store in February 2015. I brought it in for service and was told that this unit will not run windows 10 and had to to roll it back to Windows 8.1. I am fried inform them that I was having the same problem at times in windows 8.1. I also checked Lenovo website and this model has been tested to run windows 10

Answer:Think pad Yoga S1 sleep / wake issues

Hi

I have some other model, a TP Y 14 and it camed with Windows 8.1 and took me some time to stabilize it to Windows 10.
The trick for me was to run into a Driver Update Rampage... If you feel confortable updating the driver of you machine I can suggest you this tips.

1) Try first Windows Update and update all the drivers and Patches
2) Try Lenovo System Update to get any new/missing drivers.
3) Try to install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows App Store, Lenovo Companion also has a "update driver search"
4) Sometimes all that software does not recognize some updated / missing driver. Check Lenovo's Support Site and search for your specific model drivers.

This will be the Lenovo supported drivers, but if you want to look for other update drivers directly from the manufacturer (AS IS) you can try:
5) Depending on the machine chipset/processor, you can try Intel Driver Update Utility, or AMD Update Utility.
6) I also like to use DriverEasy, which offers a a decent driver update recognition for free, but also tries to sell you the full version.

Just be warned that the drivers that are not from the Lenovo support site are "AS IS" and under your own risk, I install them since I'm confortable installing, and un-installing Windows drivers, remember that a wrong driver may turn up Windows un-usable.

Sorry that it is not a better answer but sometimes drivers update do help if there is a software issue.

Regards

I have an issue with the sleep function. The computer does not awake from sleep. When I try to do it, it behaves as if it was waking, but it never ends and there is only a black screen; the mouse and keyboard are inoperative. The only thing possible to do is a hard reboot. When it boots, it shows a notice with a minute report (in the zip file) usually saying there was a blue screen, but I NEVER see any blue screen at all.

I know the power configuration is OK because I have always used the same scheme. A powercfg ?energy report shows several errors and warnings. They refer to USB and PCI (vendor 1002=ATI motherboard), but I don?t know how to repair them.

I downloaded the drivers downloader from Rrecipester.org and downloaded and installed the drivers. They are all Broadcom Corporation signed, the brand of my USB Bluetoth attachment. I rebooted after installing, as recommended. Run powercfg ?energy again and got the same report issues (in the zip file). I don?t think the processor utilization warnings to be very important because they are low and sporadic picks. It has been like this for some time now, so I don?t have a restore point. Can someone help and tell me what I can do so solve this issue, please?

Files uploaded in the attached zip:
. Windows warning after reboot
. Windows dump and xml files (2 = 1 each)
. Powercfg -energy report
I wanted to correct the thread title, but was unable to do it. Maybe someone else can do it.

Answer:No Wake From Sleep – BlockedI have an issue with the sleep function. T

Quite confident it's a driver issue, it will be very difficult to troubleshoot from the one included dump file though as it's incomplete and inconclusive.

Hey guys, new to the forum.  I purchased a Yoga 2 Pro two days ago and it has been awesome so far; however, I had put it into sleep mode and into my bag for 4 hours (forgetting that it was only in sleep and not off).  When I opened my bag, the laptop was super hot and the fan was running full blast (the bag was closed) and I immediately turned it off. My question is is whether there would have been a possibility of any internal damage to the components of the laptop or compromise in future reliability/durability, as I need this laptop to last at least 5 years or so.  Someone told me that laptops have a built in thermal shut off, but I am not sure if that still functioons in sleep mode... Any help is appreciated. Thanks all.

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro Wake from Sleep in Bag Possibility of Damage?

hi gojohnnygo,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

In that scenario normally the hard drive is what gets the most damage, but since the system has an SSD drive it will not take any damage.

The only thing I can think of is the cooling system of the computer excessive heat deteriorates the cooling paste applied on the sink.
But if you were able to wake it up, that means that the system did not took any serious damage from that heat.

You should not worry about what happened just make sure to limit the times the computer takes that kind of heat as it will surely lessen the capability of the system to cool it self down effectively.

My Yoga 500 ISK would sometimes not wake up from sleep.I mean, I can see the computer is working, I can hear it, but the screen is black and unresponsive. What happens is that I either leave it on and it goes to sleep on its own within 15 mins, or put it to sleep via start>power>sleep - it doesn't matter. Sometimes I press the power button and it wakes up fine, but sometime I get the black screen. My computer is up to date on the latest BIOS update (from today), Both Intel and nVidia graphics drivers are up to date, and in my power settings, my hard drive is set to not turn off ever. Does anyone know a solution to this problem??

Answer:Yoga 500 ISK Doesn't wake up from sleep properly -...

Hi there, I own the same model and I believe I have the same issue. Also I find booting up to be painfully slow. It gives me so much Apple Mac envy. I am almost certain the issue is with regard to the HDD itself, the WDC WD10S21X-24R1BT0-SSHD-8GB. It is used in many of the new-ish lenovo laptops including the Y50 touchscreen gaming computer. Many customers have complained about the SSHD, google that long model and you'll see loads of complaints on forums. I intend to open up my Yoga 500 ISK and replace the SSHD with what should be in there - an SSD. I shall let you know how I get on! Harry

Hi, I've got two thinkpad lenovo S1, one works fine when going to sleep but with the other one I've been having a problem for a number of months now and it's becoming more frustating. Basically, I'm using the laptop then I leave it for doing something else and when I come, it's gone to sleep. Fine, the problem is that I can see the 'red light' blinking but if I press any key or I press the power button for a little while the laptop doesn't wake up. It just keeps with the blinking red light.  Sometimes, not many, it does wake up but the others, I have to press the power button for a long period, switch the laptop off and start again, losing all my sessions and opened windows in the process.  Any idea what could be causing this issue and what I can try to have it sorted? Thank you guys!

If go into sleep mode, either my closing lid, holding power button, or using the  Windows 10  Start/Power/Sleep option, then after going into sleep mode, never will come out of it.  Doesn't matter if I try to come out of it 5 seconds later or an hour later, just blank screen with power button stuck on green.  No activity, just frozen. I have updated to latest bios  v1.20 and also updated the display driver.   Please help, just got this computer and crazy can't even use it because can easily go into sleep mode if walk away, etc.

Answer:Thinkpad L450 won't wake up after sleep - Windows ...

There have been a been a number of systems that don't resume from sleep under Windows 10 properly as expected, so I don't think this is likely to be a problem specific to the L450.  Sounds like updating the BIOS was a good step. Have you tried to update the Windows 10 power management driver?  That might be a good next step if you haven't already tried it.http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/ThinkPad-L-Series-laptops/ThinkPad-L45... Worth a shot..

Hi,In the last few months or so (possibly after I updated the BIOS), when I put my T430 into sleep mode when plugged in, it does not wake up. If it is not pluged in and I put it to sleep (in both cases by closing the lid) then it wakes up fine. When plugged in, I changed the power settings so that it will hibernate when plugged in but it takes long to do this so I prefer if the sleep mode were to work again. I'm running Windows 7 Professional. BIOS Version/Date LENOVO G1ET94WW (2.54 ), 22/04/2013Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3520M CPU @ 2.90GHz, 2901 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)BIOS Version/Date LENOVO G1ET94WW (2.54 ), 22/04/2013System Model 2344CTOIntel(R) HD Graphics 4000, Driver version 9.17.10.2843Display Driver: NVIDIA NVS 5400M, Driver version 9.18.13.697Network adapter: Intel 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection, Driver version 11.15.16.0Centrino-Advanced N6205, driver version 15.4.1.1 I looked in the forums and there are similar problems but can't find a solution. Thanks, Shafiq

Answer:ThinkPad T430 - Cannot wake up from sleep if plugged in

Hi, Shafiq

I have a few questions to gain more clarification about your issue: FIrstly, does the issue arise when you attempt to wake the system from sleep while plugged in, or is it an issue where if you put it to sleep while plugged in, you will not be able to wake the machine?

Also, do you use Windows for the power settings or are you using Lenovo Power Manager?

Thanks in advance,Adam

Hello HP forum experts, quite simple, I wish to wake-up from sleep mode via an external keybaord or mouse (RF). Both peripherals are connected to USBs. I tried all power related adjustments in Windows 10 PRO. I read the article " HP PCs - Sleep and Hibernate Issues", but there is no help for my problem.I guess that I would need to change the USB power settings in BIOS (UEFI), however, these settings are not available in BIOS. Any help ? I have this weird issue occasionally. But it is getting more frequent recently. I usually close the lid to enter sleep mode instead of going to Start Bar and selecting it. (I assume these two ways work same) But if I open the lid and hit Enter Key, the machine won't wake up. However, it will keep turn itself on and off again and again. It's like you press the switch button, then you hear the processor runs and the key board light flashes. Then, it goes power off. The whole thing lasts about 2 seconds. Then it will repeat again and again until I hold switch button for few seconds, then it goes to power off. Then I re-truen it on, it will take me to START WINDOWS NORMALLY Screen. Does any body have sameissue? I saw the same issue got posted on another computer forum. Thanks.

Hi all,

I have a problem with my pc, as I sleep my computer via the sleep button on keyboard, or under start menu, it sleeps normally.
But when i attempt to 'wake it up' by pressing the power button, the pc failed to resume to windows, while the fans n power are function by the sound of it, and i'll have to force shut down my comp by holding onto my power button as the reset button and other things doesnt work.

This has happen occassionally/often, sometimes it can wake up and sometimes it cant, I'm not sure what is causing it.
I do notice that the num-lock light on my keyboard (which is always on when in windows) switches on in the case that the computer can wake up, and stays off after sleep mode if it cannot b wake up after i press the power button.

Its been a problem for a while but I've jst been far too busy to seek solutions to this. If anyone could lead/guide me in the right direction in solving this problem it will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advanced.

System goes into Sleep Mode, but when I try to wake, it freezes with Black Screen, so I have to restart system, and when I do, it gives me a "Resuming Windows" screen and takes me back to where the I was when Sleep Mode entered.

By process of elimination, I know the problem is being caused by some newly installed software, namely HTC Sync Manager, but I don't know where/how/why the conflict is occurring...and here's the rub-I really want to keep HTC Hot Sync.

I've tested the HTC software on two different PCs running Win 7, with same result, but HTC says I'm the only one reporting this problem, so...no help from that end.

I'm hoping that someone here can give me some suggestions of things to try that might at least localize the problem or ideally be a workaround.

Thanks

I have an HP Pavilion p7-1154

I literally did a complete reformat yesterday, and did not have this problem prior to reformatting.

Since then, every time my computer goes to sleep, I cannot wake it up.

Moving the mouse, pressing a key, or even a short press on the power button. I have to manually power it down, unplug it, let the reserve light drain, and then turn it back on.

I tried to Google, but I can't find anything that isn't a bunch of blind leading the blind. I am fairly proficient with computers.

Hello all,

I really hope someone can help me out. I am not savvy in this kind of stuff. My husband has a home built computer that runs our tv system with windows media center. He had to leave on a military deployment and right before he left he had to reinstall the OS. Since then the computer refuses to wake from sleep mode. I have to scram it to get it to come back up. Since we run the media center it ought to wake up to record automatically, but it isn't doing that either. I've checked all the power options but that doesn't seem to be the problem. Although, at this point, I really have no clue. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I am looking to buy either an X220 or X230 Thinkpad laptop and have been reading the forums here for information about wake from sleep issues for these two machines. I have found a lot on the X220 - seems to be a common problem, so I am now thinking that isn't going to be my choice. My questions for those who may have experienced this with an X230: -is the wake from sleep a common issue with the X230 laptop?-is this more of a SSD issue than a regular HHD?-is this related to the amount of RAM installed?-is this more of a Win 7 issue? If so, any version that is more susceptible? I had an HP laptop that finally was unusable due to this issue and want to avoid that with a new laptop. I really like the features and size of the x230 - and that I can still get Win 7. Any input on how often the X230 has this type of issue - and any solutions that have worked - would be greatly appreciated, as I really am reluctant to have history repeated with this wake from sleep issue. Thanks!HL

No issues in waking up from sleep when not connected to HDMI port. When it is connected, the machine won't wake from sleep.  Any thoughts? This is sleep, not hibernation. Also, tried unplugging the monitor once asleep and this does not help. The only way to recover from the sleep issue is to hold the start button for 4 second and hard reboot the machine.

My Yoga 3 Pro won't wake up from sleep / hibernation, the only sign of activity is the keyboard lights just blinking, AGAIN! :-(. This is a common problem with Yoga 2 13 models I have learnt, not only from various boards, but also my self, when I returned a yoga 2 13 after 5 days, and got the Yoga 3 Pro model. The laptop is now only 6 months old. I experienced the same wake up problems 3 weeks ago with my 3 Pro, and the shop here in Copenhagen sent it back to service. When I got it back 4 days ago, the service team had just changed "Cinch Audio" and updated the BIOS. It seems like they never really fixed the real problem. Two days ago the computer again had problems to wake up, and now it seems to be frozen in this blinking mode. I I have tried hard reboot (holding the power button for ca 20 secs), but it won't solve the problem. Has anyone experienced the same problem, and any durable solutions to it? If it stays like this, I'll hand it in, try to get it reimbursed and I will gladly buy another computer, but not from Lenovo anymore.

Obviously the keyboard keypress and/or mouse click can wake it up, but what other things? Mouse movement definitely doesn't wake it up.

I prefer to make it sleep rather than hibernate (hibernation is disabled, to save having a 32GB file saved each time). After choosing Win 7 Start menu then "Sleep", it will happily go into sleep mode. But then sometimes (not all the time), after finally getting to sleep and the fans go off and the illuminated keyboard goes off, it'll wait a second and then wake straight back up and show the windows fast login menu. I have to hold the power button for a second to put it back to sleep. Then it's 50/50 whether it'll wake itself up again. Sometimes I have go through this procedure 3 times to make it go to sleep. On other occasions it'll work first time.

I tried disabling the LAN adaptor's "wake on LAN" but that didn't make any difference.

Hello. I have this Gateway P4 2.5mhz and it will not wake up after it has been in sleep mode for awhile. I just did a complete reinstall of WinXP home the other day which makes it more frustrating. So I am very cautious in any solution. I did disable the sleep mode features as a workaround in the meantime. I did some chatting with Gateway and the tech chat guy recommend using WinXP home CD that came with the computer to do a repair but he said I would have to remove SP2 in order to do the repair as the WinXP home CD is sp1. I really hate to do that. I was wondering if slip streaming WinXP home sp1 with SP2 could achieve the same thing. Is a slip stream CD capable of repairing? How reliable are slip streamed version? Amazing how long it takes to reinstall when all is said and done. And, of course, if you have any other suggestions to get it to wake up in sleep mode. Thanks

Note: I did do a slip stream version using AutoStreamer which is a no brainer.

Hi,

I bought a Satellite C50-A about 8 months ago. From day one I have been having this issue.

What happens is that when the laptop is left on for any length of time, I guess it goes to sleep or something, not a single light is on tough.

The only way to get it to switch back on is to remove all power to the laptop and hold down the power button for a while.
Like I said, this has been happening since the day I bought it and has been happening a few times a day.

Any help will be hugely appreciated.

Thanks

Answer:Satellite C50-A wan't wake up from sleep mode

You can disable the automatic sleep mode within the Windows Power Options.

Go to control panel -> Power Options -> Edit plan settings
Here you would need to modify the option: “Put the computer to sleep” … set it to "never"

Furthermore I would recommend you to disable the hybrid shutdown mode and to perform a complete shutdown.
Here you can find the step by step instruction How to perform a complete shutdown in Windows 8

Hello. I left my computer on for longer than I would have liked and it went into sleep mode and never came back out. I have tried all the common fixes that i could do without a monitor such as using the keyboard or mouse to wake it up from sleep (which has always worked in the past), unplugging devices, hard computer reset, and swapping cables. Monitor works in another computer. It has never done this before. It's a custom built computer I did years ago. Has anyone else had this issue that found a fix that works? Fixes that require a monitor are no good at the moment.

New to this forum posted my specs while registering so I assume whoever wants to help me can access my profile and view them,

I recently built my PC without to much problem, only little bug I have is the sata3 HDD connected with a 6gbs transfer sata cable in a sata3 port is only a 3gbs transfer speed. Although my real concern is that twice after awaking from sleep mode my PC just freezes and enters BSOD, I haven't used the PC much since I built it mainly because I live in 2 different homes and currently not at the home with my new comp, but I believe that if it happened twice out of a possible 9-10 sleep mode wake ups its going to keep happening until I find a fix.

I read this could revolve around driver issues for vista so just for additional info I updated the graphics driver and all the asus drivers using the cd that comes with the MOBO.

looking forward for ideas thank you

I have a customer's PC that has an Athlon XP Thoroughbred 1200 with 1.5 GB PC2100 memory, and an Abit motherboard, etc.

It boots up fine and will run sometimes only 30 seconds and sometimes 20 minutes when it gets to Windows XP, but then the computer goes into standby or hibernation or something by itself. I am going to try to look at power management in the control panel if I can get there before it goes to sleep again this time.

Why is it doing this? It will actually go into whatever mode it goes into while I am working on it. It isn't idle. And the computer doesn't actually power off. The monitor just says "Going to sleep," and the keyboard lights turn off. The CD tray will still open and all the fans and such in the PC are still going, so I wonder if it's just Windows being stupid.

Any ideas?

When running on battery this computer rarely wakes from sleep.  I noticed that if I try to wake from manually entering sleep within about 10 seconds it will come back on rare occasion, typically only once after a reboot.  Any longer than 10 seconds and it won't happen.  If the charger is connected, the device is 10x more likely to return from sleep after a few seconds.  Additionally, the manual says you can wake from sleep by opening the lid, pressing the power key, pressing a keyboard key, or tapping the touch pad.  My HP only wakes from the power bottun when on battery, and the power button and sometimes when opening the lid when connected to the charger.  The keyboard and touchpad have no effect.  I've updated all the drivers/bios from the support assistant.  While updating drivers in attempt to fix this issue, the display driver said a power state could not be changed.  I verified Windows 10 has completed all updates.  I uninstalled and reinstalled the Display driver.  No errors the second time.  I went to the device manager and made sure the keyboard power management setting was set to wake from sleep.  I did mess with the power settings a bit, I reset them to default levels of the HP recommended settings.  Nothing seems to help the situation. I've followed the steps on this site: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03383935 Any recommendations?  It w... It does this every once in a while. It happened twice in the past 2 days. I'm not sure if it's something I left open before going into sleep mode or something else.

So the computer's been in sleep mode, usually for at least an hour. I do the usual thing to wake it up, move the mouse. After a simple movement fails, I try again, moving vigorously and clicking all the mouse buttons. I have also tried pressing all the keys on my keyboard.

None of this works and I have to restart the computer. Any idea why this could be happening?

Answer:Computer won't wake from Sleep Mode

Generally it's the result of a driver power management problem. Most commonly occurring when you have been forced to use a vista driver in place of a proper win 7 driver, as power states have changed a bit between the two.

Hey working on A Dell Inspiron 530S Desktop with Vista Home Premium SP2, just did a reinstall all seemed to be well until i try to put it in sleep mode.. When i do, it goes to somewhat sleep, by way of somewhat I mean the monitor goes off, yet the fans still whistle and the drives keep going.. Then finally they cease and the power button blinks to notify me i;m in sleep mode.. I then try to click mouse, or push key on keyboard to wake it up, absolutely no response.. I then have to power it down by way of holding power button in.. when it finally goes off, I turn back on and it seems like it's waking from hibernation mode not sleep.. What I mean is the task bar slowly appears, then some Desktop icons, all very slowly, it takes full minute to get entire desktop back, and 3 minutes overall for it to function properly. Says drivers are all up to date but I don't really trust that.. I reset all power options to balanced (thats what they were anyway) And didn't seem to be any BIOS setting to change (reset them too) could there be a driver or program confliction somewhere? This is Weird.. thanks in advance
