I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: RE: Dell Inspiron 15 - 3000 series - Beep Beep Beep Pause Beep Beep Beep

Hi Ganny,
What are the exact # of beeps in a cycle?
Kindly review this chart and see page# 47 - it will help isolate the source of the issue.
Based on the exact # of beeps, that part would need to be replaced.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

My laptop here is a Dell Inspiron 15, 3000 series.
The laptop itself works perfectly fine, I am able to get into windows (which I installed myself, it originally came with Ubuntu).
Occasionally though, it will do a BEEP BEEP BEEP PAUSE BEEP BEEP BEEP PAUSE (repeats).
This happens on boot and sometimes when I am using it. Sometimes it turns off suddenly when I am shifting the computer around. It's extremely loud.

What is causing this? The sound seems to be coming from around the area the Memory banks are under the laptop, but nothing seems to suggest that anything is wrong.
I took a suggestion and used FN+Power to do Hardware Diagnostics which said nothing is wrong.

What else can I try?

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15 - 3000 series - Beep Beep Beep Pause Beep Beep Beep

I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check if the beep pattern repeats.

Switch off the computer.
Disconnect the AC adapter from the system.
Remove the battery from the computer.
Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
Then connect back all the peripherals and check if the beep pattern repeats and reply us with the beep count.

If you still receive 3 Beeps on the system then it indicates System board failure.. You will have to replace it on the laptop.
Please let me know the findings.

I understand that this means there is a system board error.  I have a very good reason to believe that the BIOS had an issue (when I checked it before this happened, it had 75 boot options listed and said the volitale memory was almost full). Question: can I somehow force the BIOS to reset itself?  Is there a pin short I can use for this? Of course I am 2 weeks out of warranty :/  I assume if I sent it in they would just charge for a boarsd swap... likely $500-$600 dollars. Thanks for any help!

Answer:X230 1 beep, 3 beep, 3 beep, 1 beep, no screen: can I reset the BIOS?

1-3-3-1 means no memory. If you have 2 DIMMs, try with just one, then just the other. When you try with just one DIMM, it needs to go into slot-0. When you have the machine sitting lid-down and the battery compartment away from you, slot-0 is the one on the right.

My X230 gets very little use since I bought it in 2012... sometimes no use at all for weeks at a time. Yet the system board failed, as did a replacement, and now the third board seems to have failed. On startup I get 1 beep, 3 beep, 3 beep, 1 beep and a blank screen. I tried the existing RAM stick in both slots: no startI bought and tried a NEW stick of RAM from Crucial in both slots: no startI tried both sticks in the slots at the same time: no start Other than another bad system board, what could it be? Where can I get a system board that might last? By the way, at the same time I bought the X230 I also bought a T530 that gets gallons of heavy use almost every day and never had a problem that I didn't cause myself.

A few times now my E5440 will give a low beep... then a few seconds go by, and another beep.  It just happened a minute ago - only two beeps this time.  But I think it happened a few days ago and beeped several times with the same pause of a few/several seconds in between the beeps.  It's so quiet that before I've thought I was imagining it.  But this time I was sitting in front of it typing.
There are no pop-up notifications on the screen anything is wrong, such as the 'disconnection' sound when you remove a portable HDD, or your Wi-Fi disconnects.  Nothing to indicate what the beeps mean.  The laptop is working perfectly.  Battery is fully charged.  I can hear the fan turning and changing speed but it's 2:30am here with no outside noise and I can barely hear the fan.  (I assume it would be spinning up like crazy if something were overheating.)
I'm at a loss what it means.  Does anyone know?
I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit if that matters.

Hi, I have been using the Y480 for almost 2 years. However, when I boot up this morning, it just beep beep beep continously. and the screen just have a cursor blinking. But after I reboot again and press F2 to enter bios, and then quit bios settings, the notebook can be boot up successfully. I have backup everything I need What should I do to fix the error? Is my harddisk gonna be failed? I have lost all the purchase receipts but I have registered 2 years ago. Thanks!Peter

Answer:Y480 continous beep beep beep during startup

Beeps are error messages from the Motherboard. Either the MOBO is failing or you have a problem with your RAM, I dont think it is related to your HDD, but you should create a backup. Also, if you don't have, please create recovery disks immediately. You may want to do more research depending on the BIOS manufacturer and the beep codes. You can google these terms and you should find information on the procedure to validate this. You can also try to re-seat the RAM, maybe it got a bit unsettled, if you moved the laptop. All in all, if you took the externded warranty and you are still under it, you may want to send the laptop to Lenovo for repairs.

I have two printers connected to a Dell E520 through Vista. They are a Brother 5440CN and a HP 6110xi. The .Brother works ok but I can't say the same for the HP. Clicking any button on the HP gives the same response. Beep, beep, beep. I have recently moved the system to a new location just a couple of feet from where it was. i shut it down properly upon finding that my C key was on the fritz. a couple of months ago, my E key had been doing the same (randomly not working and randomly typing e consistently). once i rebooted, i got the message "Operating System (OS) Not Found".

i let my computer rest for a while and turned it back on. i currently get the toshiba startup, but around when it's suppose to load the os, it beeps continuously at the loudest volume with a contantly blinking underscore in white font on a black background.

i believe this may have happened once before, but i have no clue what i did to fix it.

I have ThinkPad T500, 2241, CTO. Every time laptop boots, there is an annoying beep. It is not a beep sound that one might have when power status changes. Beep is off both in Power Manager and turned off in BIOS section of power management. Moreover, in device manager in non-plug and play list i disabled the BEEP. Still this annoying sound is there. BIOS is updated. However, there is no other section in BIOS where I can turn off the beep. Please help!Message Edited by Gordik on 03-22-2009 09:31 PM

Look through the bios again, there is a separate entry for beeps afaik. Did you look in the section where you can also set power mode beeps, keyboard beeps etc? I think its there, not 100% sure though.

any ideas?

Answer:Compaq bios freeze short beep long beep

Is the beep pattern just one short one long? Check your manual for the POST beep codes to determine what it is telling you. All POST beep codes are different so there's no way to tell unless we know exact model of your PC. The manual usually has the beep code in it, though.

Answer:CPU fan is working for few seconds and stoped then a long beep and 2 short beep

Hello, Your reported T61 bios beep codes would indicate you have one of the following failures: System boardLCD assemblyDIMMThe DIMMS would be my first choice to test so, if you have more than one DIMM installed, try  try removing one of them and try to boot, if OK, you have removed the bad RAM; however, if the results are the same, remove the other DIMM and install the one you removed previously. If you can boot OK now, you have isolated the bad RAM. Now, if you can't boot with either stick, then, I guess the RAM is not the problem (unless you have two bad sticks and I doubt that). See the  Memory Removal and Installation Guide for more information. Good luck!

Hi guys,

I have an Asus Z97A Motherboard/GTX 1080/24GB DDR3Gskill/ 500 GB SSD + 1to HDD and recently when i boot my PC i hear 1 long beep then quickly after 3 short beep.. I've searched in Asus website about the meaning of these beep and it's written that it's a Video card faulty..

But well just after these beep my pc is booting well ! and video card working well too, i've no problem playing games.

The strange thing also is that it's making these beep like 1 time every 2 or 3 days as i shut down my pc every night and when i'm going to work.

Do you have an idea of what i can do ??

EDIT : And by the way here's what i tried,

-Disable integrated graphic
-Clear CMOS
-Update Nvidia driver

My computer has been making this noise for quite some time now. but it would only happen once every few days so it didn't really concern me until now because its happening non stop. The noise is definitely coming from system sounds. I'm not sure if this is related but under device manager there is an unknown device which i cannot account for as i put the computer together and I'm staring in to the case rite now. there is also a yellow icon by teredo tunneling pseudo-interface (i have no idea what that is)lately my computer just seems to be working really hard when idling. the cpu is constantly spiking up to 100% usage and my hard drives seem to constantly be spinning. specscpu: intel core 2 duomobo: abit ab9ram: 1gb ddr2gfx: geforce 9800 gtx+hd: 2 seagate internal drives (1 with os) the other blank for storage. In my mind there are two possibilities. 1 i have some sort of virus. 2 some hardware is malfunctioning. either way i have no idea where to start and i was hoping someone could point me in the rite direction. Thank You!

I am trying to help with a Dell Inspiron 5100.
The computer was running very slow and I've made a bit of progress resolving that. I think it needs some more RAM and I'm not sure if that could be at all related to the following.
The problem now is that after running for few hours, then shutting down, then trying to turn back on:
1. light comes on indicating computer is on
2. the computer makes 2 beeps
3. screen
4. screen
5. and so on

This does not happen everytime trying to start the computer so I'm really at a loss. I've read about overheating in this model which would seem to make sense but sometimes this will happen after the computer has been off for a day or so.

At a complete loss now.

Any assistance much appreciated!

Go to the website of your bios provider and check the beep codes. I'm guessing it's the video card.

I tried installing an MSI Radeon HD 6450 2GB Pci express x16 video card. Once hooked up, I boot up and computer beeps, from what I can tell 1 or 2 long beeps, 8 short beeps. I was running built in 128m video so I disabled that in the Bios, but that didn't do it.

I noticed the Video card manuf. recommends minimum 400W PS, my rig only has a 300W PS. Would that really affect my upgrade or am I barking up the wrong tree. I don't want to fork over for a new PS unless it' warented. Thanks a bunch.

Answer:2G Graphics card upgrade...Beep! beep!

It's possible you need a new PSU.

The TDP on that card is only 27 Watts and it doesn't require a hook up so I would think your current PSU could maybe support but I wouldn't risk it. There is also the possibility that the motherboard you have isn't providing enough power to the card.

You could try to re-seat the card or clean out the PCI express slot and see if that helps.

To be honest I?ve never heard about such issue and really don't know why this happen but if this issue happens from the first day I think you should contact your local dealer or nearest Toshiba service provider directly and ask for help.

Generally speaking preinstalled recovery image and all installed drivers are tested so I cannot imagine it is some software related issue. Contact service and ask for help. Hey should check this and fix it. valid warranty will cover all costs.

Good afternoon,I'm having trouble with my windows vista computer.  When I start it up, nothing appears and there is a beep noise.  It goes beep beep then there is a 3 second pause then another beep beep.  I don't know how to fix this and any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Answer:Windows Vista Beep Beep

These "Beep codes", as they're called, are to notify you that the Power On Self Test, or POST, has failed. The number and sequence of beeps is generally to identify which component failed, but without knowing the manufacturer, specifically the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System), it would be difficult to determine what the beep code is identifying as the problem component. For a successful Power On Self Test to take place, the following components must be working:BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) CPU (Central processing Unit) or processorPSU (Power Supply Unit) Video Output device (Graphics card)RAM (Random Access Memory)If any of these fail, your computer will not power on properly, and may exhibit symptoms like what you are describing. Generally, the first step in fixing a computer that refuses to start up is to isolate components that may be causing the problem. One thing to try would be to clean the internals of your computer (Warning: be sure power is turned off to your computer before working on internals!) and to reseat components like RAM, peripheral cards (such as your graphics card), etc.. If you do not feel comfortable doing this, you may think of taking the computer in to a reputable shop- most places that are reputable would not charge or would charge very little to clean and reseat a couple components. Chances are that the problem component is either RAM or Graphics card, these components tend to fail or require service faster than others, and may als... Read more

Hi, Today I replaced my old graphics card with a new GeForce 9500GT and also added a new Kingston 2GB Ram Card. I installed both of them then restarted the computer, since then it has only powered on and playing 1 short beep then 1 long beep. I've tryed everything I can think of ranging from taking out everything new and putting it back to before I added the new items to completely taking out all 3 RAM sticks and reseating them. I'm not sure how a brand new unopened 2GB ram stick that fit perfectly and a brand new right out of the box graphics card can cause a problem like this. I've been through the ins and outs of the internet trying to find a solution but nothing has worked. Hoping someone can think of a unique way to fix this or how it could have possibly happened in the first place. I dont buy anything used everything placed inside my computer was/is brand new when it was purchased. Any help/comments on solutions would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Answer:One short beep, one long beep

Is it possible you are hearing 1 long - one short?
That might indicate a BIOS CHECKSUM error, depending on the brand of BIOS.

You can try a ClearCMOS procedure (CLRTC is the same thing):
Note all your current BIOS settings
Shut down the computer > remove the power cord.
Remove the 3v motherboard battery.
Move the CLRTC jumper from pins 1-2 to 2-3.
Touch a metal part of the case and Press and Hold the reset button for approx. 30 seconds to discharge all power from the board.
Put the CLRTC jumper back on pins 1-2.
Replace the 3v battery > replace the power cord > boot.
Immediately go back into BIOS and reset all your preferred settings. If the CLRTC worked you will need to reset the date and time.

Answer:beep beep beep pc beeps

It could be that your Pc is overheating. If it has been with you for a while then dust gets stuck in the heat sink of the procesor and on its fan this makes the fan go slow and that causes the overheating.Ifyou know a little about Pc then switch off the PC at the mains take off the side pannel of the tower and look on the mother board for a small fan, you could put a vacuumm close to the fan and this may take out the dust, if not you will need to take off the fan to clean the heat sink

I turned my wife's computer on and the screen didn't even flicker and all it does is beep at me.
I tried removing on componant at a time and started it after every removal.
Still beeps at me.
Until I got to the CPU. It stopped beeping at me. Of course, every other piece was out of the puter, so I'm not sure if its supposed to stop beeping or if thats the problem.
Any ideas?

Hi every1, Pls help me, I've bought 2 new ram cards from Each card is (256MB 144-Pin SoDimm 32MX64 PC133Mhz) equalling 512MB, because i was told the beeps are ram problems. And they both worked fine for a while, no beeps T22 loads up, but now all of a sudden my T22 beeps when i turn it on so i've swapped the ram cards about, still beeps when i switch the laptop on. so i took 1 ram card out and tried it with just 1 card (256MB) in both slots, perfect!! no beeps and loaded up perfectly when i put the card in each slot. When i try the other card with the first card BEEPING again!!!! so i tried that card on its own in each slot and beep again, thats the second time i had to send one back. Also should my Ram cards be PC133Mhz  or PC100Mhz? Whats happening to my memory banks?????Sorry for the long message. Thank you.

Windows XP, Service Pac 3

I just had a "search engine redirect issue" fixed by "Gringo." One thing that is different now is at windows start-up, this laptop makes a BEEP TIC (Higher in frequency than the BEEP) vs the BEEP BEEP sounds I've had for ever. The computer start-up sequence is very slow as it takes minutes before the computer is ready to be used.

During the virus removal, a few times the reboot start-up sounds were BEEP - TIC - BEEP (again the TIC was higher a higher tone and faster than the BEEPs). What do the different sounds mean?

I'll start another thread requesting help to fix my computer problems.

Before you do anything else reseat your RAM modules. If this doesn't fix it go back to basics - disconnect everything from your mobo except graphics card, power and RAM does it boot the monitor on start up? If not and you only have 1 ram module fitted beg or borrow another and try that - if you have 2 ram modules try them one at a time on their own. Post back when done and adviseRgds

Whenever i power up my computer it gives out the beep code 4-2-3-3.  I've tried searching for guides on what to do beep codes but i haven't been successful.  I tried doing CMOS recovery but it failed to work.  The monitor is also unresponsive to the computer starting up and believe that is the error the beep code is reporting.  If anyone knows where a guide for beep codes or has any suggestions they would greatly appreciated.   Thanks

Ok, the other day my girlfriends brother gave me a Compaq Presario V2000 laptop. He said he couldn't get windows to boot up, all it did was start to load and after a few seconds it would start running CHKDSK with a blue screen, but once it got to step 3 it would say it was complete, but wouldn't go any further or boot windows up.

So yesterday I decided to mess with it, and it did what he said it did. So I tried to booted it into SAFEMODE and it wouldn't. So I restarted it and pressed ESC and ran a Hard Drive Self Test and got an 07 FAIL. After that I restarted it, and all I got was a black screen then it made a loud BEEP sound fallowed by a REALLY LOUD BEEP, then it did nothing.

Does anyone know what the problem is?

Answer:Beep, Beep thats all folks

Probably a bad harddrive.

Youd better hope they had their information backed up...

What you can try is hooking it up to another PC as slave and see if you can get any data off of it, but they will likely need a new harddrive and OS.

I just got a strange reaction from my pc. It was working fine last night, I went to start, turn off computer, shut down and went to bed. I got up this morning and I saw a notice on the screen (PC did not shut down during the night) It said there was a change to the global template for microsoft word and did I want to save changes so I said no and the pc shut down. Later on I tried to call up my key logger and heard a beeping noise from within my pc. I paid it no attention and went on the rest of the day working. I was using Quicken later on and noticed that when I tried to view certain graphs they seemed to be "fluttering" (The page seemed to go up and down rapidly on its own) I closed it and ran Avast antivirus scan. I tried to activate it and got an error message that said it ran into some kind of runtime error (I think) I finly got it started, ran a scan and came up empty of viruses. Then Avast kept shutting itself off. I emptied my waste basket, went to internet options, deleted all files and history (Including online content) then cleared all in Firefox. Next I went to start, run msconfig, start up disable all, restart, back to start, run, msconfig, enable all, reboot and everything seems to be fine now. Can anyone tell me what this may have or still is?

Question: Beeeep, beep beep

I just got new asus AM2 mobo and I'm getting beeps on start. 1 long beep and two short. Somewhere I found it is related to video card. I'm not sure if that's true, but I know videocard is functional and inserted correctly.
The mobo has it's own video, so I tried using only that, same thing. It just doesn't seem to make sense.

Answer:Beeeep, beep beep

One long two short looks like a video issue, as you said. You say it is also happening when you remove the graphics card and try to boot up with the onboard graphics?

Here's what I'd do:

Remove the motherboard from the case and set it on a box beside your case. Next, reset cmos (check your manual to find the cmos jumper pins).

Remove everything from the motherboard except:

cpu with heatsink/fan
one stick of ram
power supply connections to the motherboard (should be two)
connect the case's speaker to the motherboard

Then use a screwdriver to quickly touch (short) the two pins that usually connect to your case's power on switch.

See what kind of beeps you get.

If you still get the beeps, my guess is your need to RMA the board, but please post your system's full specs (including your power supply specs)

Good luck!

Answer:to beep or not to beep(that is the question)

Hi SLAYER. Although I've read that some motherboards don't have a POST beep, I personally haven't come across one. The most likely cause of no beep is that there isn't a connection between the case speaker and the motherboard. Possible causes that immediately come to mind are broken wire or the speaker connector doesn't match the motherboard header pins - possible one is wired for 3 pins and the other for 2 pins. If the motherboard connection is correct, remove the socket from the header and touch a 1.5V battery to the connector. You should get a distinct clicking from the speaker.

Anyone know what it means if you get a long beep followed by two short beeps when you boot up?  When this happens the screen is blank; it never continues booting; no Windows XP logo, etc.  It continues beeping like this until I hold the power button down until it shuts down.  Then, I can restart it, and it boots up, seeminly without issue.  This happens when I reboot intentionally (after windows updates or new software installs, etc.) as well as after it periodically locks up.  I suspect that the problem with it locking up is related to this--I don't consider a system lockup to EVER be acceptable, but I don't have time to get mad about it right now. This is a z61m.

Hi! I have been using dell inspiron for almost 2 years. Everything was working fine all through till now. Two days back I turned it on as usual but it didn't start. The power button lights up , I hear the fan , the dvd drive works , but the screen doesn't start and after some time I get 3 beep sounds consecutively with gaps in between. I left it aside and turned it on again after 24 hrs and it started normally and worked as usual. Then I turned it off and switched it on again after 1 hour but it didn't start and again I get the beep sounds. It remains so till now. What should I do ? ?

Answer:Dell inspiron 3 beep sounds

Unplug the system, remove or disconnect the battery, and hold the power button for 30 seconds.  Remove and reinstall the memory module(s).
Try powering up - if that clears it, you're set.  If not, budget a few hundred dollars for a replacement mainboard -- or depending on the model, for a new system (sub-$700 systems aren't really worth a major repair like a mainboard once they're out of warranty, as the cost will exceed 50% of that of a new system).

Hi, if someone could help me would be great! I receive this 7beep code from the motherboard every time I try to boot my inspiron duo 1090, nothing on screen just a 7 beep code not like 3-2-2 or 3-4 or something is a 1-1-1-1-1-1-1. I saw around the net that this is common and is just a fake alarm from the motherboard, and that dell support have told ppl to just press the FN key while booting and that bypasses the P.O.S.T. and boots like nothing again, some ppl say the just left they're computer there and tried like 2 weeks later and booted like normal. I tried this FN key to bypass the P.O.S.T. but NOTHING happened and my duo is out of warranty already and I don't wanna pay for a fake code or something please somebody help me =(

I'm getting a single beep at seemingly random intervals on my Dell Inspiron 1545, Windows 7 64 bit. The beep comes from inside the laptop, it doesn't come through the main speaker (from the motherboard I assume).

I've searched and have found the beep codes and according to that it is "BIOS checksum failure. Possible motherboard failure". I have no idea what a BIOS checksum failure means though. I have been told that this isn't a beep code though as it doesn't happen at boot. It can happen every few minutes or several days can pass without hearing it.

I don't seem to have any problems at all, everything runs as it should. I think the beeping might have started when I replaced my hard drive, although I'm not 100% sure about that. I can't really contact Dell as the warranty has run out.

My battery is also pretty much dead and while I don't need it at all, I wonder if this may have something to do with it?

I have disabled the beep entry in the registry but that hasn't solved the problem. I have also flashed the bios with the latest one but this also didn't help.

This is my system spec in case it is of any help:

I have a Dell Inspiron 3521 Laptop.
Firstly, I have detected a problem with the display, some pixels on the monitor were not loaded successfully. The number of those pixels has significantly increased over the time and, further, the laptop has begun to start at a second try, the first try involving a beep at power on, thus avoiding the initialization of the system.
At the moment, when trying to power on the laptop, it starts with a single beep which suggests me that it is a "Motherboard: BIOS ROM Failure" fault. However, I don't know how I could proceed in detecting the problem(s) and getting the laptop firstly to boot correctly and secondly to avoid the failure of loading the pixels. Furthermore, do you think that those problems are somehow related?
Thank you in advance.
Best regards,
Roxana Stan

Answer:Dell Inspiron 3521 Laptop does not boot (1 beep) & Dead pixels

Unplug the system, remove the battery (or unplug it if it's internal) and hold the power button for 30 sec.  Remove the base cover and both memory modules and reinstall them.
If that clears the single beep issue, hold the D key through powerup, which will start an LCD built in self test.  If the screen then shows solid colors OK, it's fine.
If it does not - or the single-beep issue isn't cleared -- the first step is a big one: the mainboard needs to be replaced.  You're looking at about $300 or more with labor - and on a low-end system like this one, you may find it better to replace rather than repair a major fault such as a bad mainboard.

Hi, I own a Dell Inspiron N5110 i5 processor laptop with 4 GB RAM and 500 GB hard disk. Its getting 14 months since I bought it.From the last few days, I could see that the machine makes beep sound on start up till the windows starts. The sound gets disappeared after OS starts. Especially if I turn on the lap from hibernation mode, some time rebooting also make the beep sound. However, I observed a similar low tone inside the system even when the machine is running. I have been using a cooler also to reduce the heat, all keys are working fine no thing is jammed, I have performed the dell H/W diagnostics test all the results were passed. Drivers are all updated, the processor fan i also running correctly. I am wondering what can be the reason.
Please do share your thoughts and suggestions about this issue.

Answer:Continuous beep sound from my Dell inspiron n 5110 laptop on start up ??

I have tried something from another forum that I found, but do not have the link so I cannot copy and paste or give credit to the poster.  This is what I did:
1) Unplug all power from the laptop
2) Remove the battery
3) Hold down the power button for approximately 15 seconds.
4) Reattach the battery and/or plug in the power supply.
5) Power on the laptop.
This solved my problem.

Model #: 57068347OS: Windows Vista I went to bed and the computer was working. I wake up the following morning, the screen is blank, and the machine is doing nothing but beeping. I tried cycling the power and still nothing. No POST screen, no response from the keyboard, nothing. Just repeated beeps from the speaker and that's it. I cruised through the support forums a bit and didn't find much that was useful. Anyone got any ideas? thanks!

Answer:3000 K100 does nothing but beep

What can you tell us about the beeping?  Generally with PCs, there will be a series of long and short beeps in some kind of repeating pattern which can indicate what component is causing the trouble.
Can you discern the number of beeps before the pattern repeats?
Failing that, or more generically I would suspect memory, system board, power supply.   I'm going to suggest that if you are still in warranty that you contact service.   If you are outside of warranty, I'll offer the following things I might try...
1) Memory - remove and reseat the memory.  While you have each module out, check the condition of the little gold contacts.  If they look dull or have dull spots where the contact is made (you will see the slight rub marks where the socket engages each tiny contact pad on the module)  you can gently use a pencil eraser to clean the contacts on the memory - just rub the eraser back and forth a couple times gently and then wipe away any of the eraser material.  Re-insert in the sockets and try to power on the PC again.
2) System board - could be any number of componenet failures which would require a board replacement.  Depending on the BIOS, the beep codes can sometimes identify which component to confirm the diagnosis.  Try removing any expansion cards and power up again.
3) Power supply - less likely as it sounds like it is working... Read more

Try running the Dell Diagnostics Test (the full version) to see if it detects any problems. Here's how: How to Run the Dell. If it does, contact Dell Support for assistance (there's a link near the bottom of the above article).

I hope this helps. If the test comes back completely clean, then post back and we'll try something else (or if your computer is still under warranty, contact Dell Support anyway as they should be happy to assist you and know more about your computer than we do).

Good luck!

So I log out the evening before on my HP Presario SR1010 and when I try to restart on the next AM.... nothing! No screen or message, no signal output, just a long, continuos, intermittent beep of about 2-3 seconds. A situation that has never occured before. After removing each peripheral individually and restarting after each removal, nothing changes. I opened up the chasis and cleaned it thoroughly, removed the boards, cleaned and replaced them, nothing changed. I've checked for a beep code but haven't found a similar description. Any thoughts or suggestions ?

Answer:HP Presario shut down with long beep series
has a relatively long list of beep codes. Your PC uses Award BIOS. I didn't totally understand your description of the beep, but from what I could tell it seems to be a memory problem, though I may be off on that.

I take it you did reseat the memory? If not you should try that, if that doesn't fix it you'll want to remove the memory sticks one module at a time to see if the board eventually stops beeping on you. If it does, you can diagnose which stick is bad and should be replaced.

The other problem that may fit your beep is a bad power supply. That's difficult to test unless you have another, either in a second computer or just extra. Check to make sure it is powerful enough to run your machine!

I have had this desktop for four months.  When i power down then try to reboot, the two beep error occurs.  I discovered that this would apply to NO RAM DETECTED.  I've checked the memory seating to assure that it is in place to the click. This had happened before but booted successfully after unplugging the power, without entering the unit.  It appears the unit will not come out of this error this time. What should be done?

Answer:New Inspiron 660s two Beep no RAM Detected

Hi JamousBond,
You may drain out the residual power of computer by following the steps below:

Please disconnect all the peripherals connected to computer.
Press and hold the power button for 10-15 seconds
Release the power button --> Connect monitor, keyboard and mouse
Power on the system and see if it issue persists.

Another step you may try is to reseat the memory modules of your computer; swap and try one module at a time in each slot. See if it works. If the memory modules are seated properly, swapped and checked, It might be an issue with memory slot.
You may find detailed steps on reseating memory from the manual of system:
Please ensure to follow safety instructions in manual and share the findings.

Answer:Inspiron 3650 does not beep on start up. Should it?

With newer versions of BIOS and UEFI, there's no one beep at POST, unless there's a problem. Now one beep at POST typically means: System Board: BIOS ROM failure.
A while back, Dell had a brand new model giving the "normal" one beep at POST, but users confused that one beep with the motherboard failure code one beep .
That led to a lot of motherboards being needlessly replaced under warranty. Dell subsequently suppressed the "normal" one beep at POST in a revision of BIOS, and spared the life of a lot of motherboards!

My Dell will not boot up. It will not get to the Dell logo screen. After power on, it stays on the black screen and beeps 3 times. I've found info on the web that it leads to a bad system board. How reliable is that diagnosis? Is there a CD I can use to boot from to diagnose it better.

After having some recent problems with my Dell Inspiron 15 5555 laptop, it occurred to me that there are no beep codes, which may have been helpful given that the laptop would not turn on after hitting the power button.  This model lacks in so many ways..there is no light on the power button, no backlit keys, and the one & only LED on the left front of the laptop, is only lit while charging (white) and amber when battery is low.  When you power off the laptop, I just watch the dark LED area until there is one quick flash, which indicates it has shut down.
I have tried looking for any information which either states that there are or are not any beep codes.  Everything I find refers to other specific models or there is the general Dell info which touts its diagnostic helpers...beep codes or LEDs.   Wonder if anyone here can shed any light on this.
Incidentally, I have a Dell Inspiron Desktop (2015) which I realized that it too does not have any beep codes.  I just find this odd, as the 10 year old Dell PC it replaced, had beep codes.  Again, it was something that I didn't really notice until I had to troubleshoot...

Answer:Inspiron 15 5555 - Why No Beep Codes?

The system does have beep codes -- if you're not hearing them, the system isn't progressing far enough into the power on self test sequence to produce them.
If it's not producing beep codes, chances are the mainboard is toast -- try powering off, disconnecting the battery and holding the power button for 30 sec.  Remove and reinstall the memory modules and hard drive, and try powering up on AC only .  If it will but not with the battery, replace the battery.  If it still shows no signs of life, replace the mainboard.

My Toshiba Satellite 3000-514 doesn't boot every other time and gives me the following beep code: 1-1-1-1 (4 short beeps) and a black screen.

Does anybody know what this means?
This happens roughly every second time I try to boot the PC. After shutting it off and on again, it mostly works again.

Any ideas?

Answer:Satellite 3000-514 does not boot - Beep code 1-1-1-1 appears

The beep code appears mostly if the POST cannot be passed correctly.
If problem is detected before the BIOS initialize the video card and the code cannot be displayed on the screen the BIOS will play several beeps.
Every BIOS supports own beep codes meanings. For example the Toshiba BIOS beep code is not the same like a Phoenix BIOS beep code.

In my knowledge the Sat 3000 uses Phoenix BIOS. In such case you could try to search in the internet for a code description.
I found this site:
BIOS beep codes

But generally such malfunction cannot be solved on simply way and I would recommend contacting a technician with a huge notebook experience.

Hi, I am facing some beep problem with my Lenovo 3000 G400 Thinkpad. It is around five months old. From the last one month, I am facing this problem. Everytime I am starting/restarting it, it is giving some beeps. Sometimes it is 1-4 beeps and sometimes it is 5 beeps. These beeps are happening after machine has fully booted. No other problem is observed till now. I checked all components using PC Doctor. All are passed. I am worried if my Thinkpad has some serious problem. I appreciate any help from you. Regards,Subrata

Hey Everyone,
I receive My XPS 13 2in1 I7 16GB 512GB on Tuesday and it made this sound on startup.  After a couple of days of use it was occurring 3-4 times per day.  I called Dell TS last night and all they did was update my Audio driver.   The sound has happened twice so far today.  The sound certainly does not seem to be coming from the speakers and has happened while the PC was being heavily used as well as sitting idle.  I have now contacted Dell for an exchange and the new PC is due in on the 10th of July.  If the replacement still has the same issue I will be returning the laptop.  I really do like this device and am not sure what else I would get if I have to choose.
Note:  if you do request an exchange and may want to return the replacement you must be within 30days of the original invoice date, not 30days of receiving the new device.  In my opinion, that's complete *** but, whatever.  just thought I would share.

Answer:Dell XPS 13 2in1 Beep

The fact the system was sitting idle does not mean it is not doing something.  Mine gets very hot doing such things as virus scans, files checks and other possibilities, which will happen during down times.
You might check if the bottom is hot when it happens.  New systems may also be doing updates.  My system made the noise a few times the first few days I had it but quit and I cannot get it to happen now.

Hi All!

I'm trying to resurrect an old Optiplex 5166. Last time I "checked" in on it was over a year ago at work, and it had worked fine. Since we had to move out of offices, I got 2 of these back home. I took two add'l Memory Chips from the other and placed them in the remaining slots (4 total). Didn't start. Just beeps. I have since tried, and retried almost every combination of the slots, with 1, 2, 3, etc, and even differing positions. Each time, no luck.

The beep code appears to be 1-3-1-1 (I had thought it was 1-3-2, but there is no such thing, ha).

Any ideas on why I can't seem to seat these correctly?

Thx for any advice.

I would like to present my problem with my Inspiron 15R SE laptop, bought in september of 2013.

This last week, I've regularly been experiencing a beeping sound at the startup of my laptop. When I turn the laptop on, three buttons light up and turn off again, and the laptop screen remains black. A soon as that happens, the beeping sound occurs. The beeping sound is continiously and indefinitely untill I decide to turn the laptop off forcefully by pressing the power button for 3 seconds.

I haven't downloaded any software in the last three months, nore have I installed any hardware on my computer.

Today I did start the ePSA procedure at the startup. I selected the quick test and the thorough tests. My system passed them all. No fails, no system errors.

I don't have the patience to go through the complete history of this community board for usefull suggestions and tips. That's why I want to ask what sollutions there could be for this problem. I can send the Service Tag of my system if that's necessary.

I'm eagerly looking forward to your responses.

Kind regards,

The machine is a Dell Inspiron 1501 dual-boot machine running Ubuntu 12.04 and Vista. 1GB, 80GB, dual core, Anthon TK-53 x2. When booting with the battery in the laptop, it issues beep codes for over a minute, but then boots to a GRUB boot menu, from which it will boot to both operating systems. It runs about as well as can be expected on 1GB of RAM in both OSs. Without the battery the machine hangs in BIOS, but can be booted via the native boot menu (after pressing "F12").
More on that below.

My main question has to do with the beep codes: what's causing them, and what might they mean? A key determination I would like help with has to do with the logic board: if it's bad, then I think the thing to do with the machine is just to use it as is—a batteryless Ubuntu box—until it dies.

So it boots, but it's, uh, complicated. The videos I've included show the machine booting with and without the battery (which, according to Ubuntu, is at 46.6% capacity). I did run a memtest86 overnight on the RAM. No errors. However, the "System Testing" utility in Ubuntu indicates the following: "memory/info FAILED Meminfo total: 894128 kB DMI total: 1024000 kB Accuracy: 87.00 Memory totals not close enough" Interestingly, the utility issues the same evaluation for another set of RAM modules I happen to have here, which I traded out and tested in the machine with the Ubuntu utility. Suffice it to say that I don't believ... Read more

Nice laptop, but I think it has a serious problem - whenever battery runs low, it starts making a hideously loud beep - the laptop cannot be used in meetings when its running low, so its effectively useless. The Windows Power Scheme options dont affect it - [It appears to be a system/ BIOS thing]The BIOS screen doesn't show an option for it : ( How do I get this to stop? Is there a workaround?

I have a 5year old satellite 3000-514 notebook and now it starts only when it wants.
Most of the time, the screen stays black and the notebook emits four sounds, four beeps.
I can try and try again nothing happens, until it starts????

It is very annoying, does anybody have experienced that same pb ?
Does anyone know how to solve that problem ?

thanks for your help

Answer:Satellite 3000-514 often doesn't start - beep code appears

It sounds like the notebook cannot pass the POST (power on self test) successfully. The notebook beeps because there is a hardware error and some device did not pass the test.
You can try disconnecting all external devices and then try to start the notebook.
But I don?t see many chances that this will help to solve the problem?

Mostly in such cases the external help is needed. The technician with much more experience as a common user like me and you should check the notebook. I hope there is no motherboard malfunction because this could be a little bit expensive :(

I just bought a Satellite P100 Notebook.
The Notebook makes a double beep every few minutes, even if I unplug the power supply.
When I turn it off, the beeping continues.
The speakers don't seem to work, even though the volume settings are all on.

Thanks for some help,
Cheers Larso.

Answer:Double Beep at regular intervals on Satellite P100 series

Hello Larso

Did you install own OS or you use already preinstalled factory settings?

In my opinion those things should not happen and if I were you I would contact local dealer and confront him with those issues. The unit is new and before you start any kind of troubleshooting check this with dealer.

The only thing you can try is to preinstall unit with recovery media. On this way the OS will be clean preinstalled and you can check if the problem persists.

So I just recently replaced a motherboard in a Dell Inspiron 15R 5537 Laptop. I was extremely careful and interestingly, this motherboard had it's CPU glued on. I was going to take the CPU from the old one but this one is attached really well with the glue lol. So I replaced it and everything as carefully as I could and when I was finally done, I powered it up now getting lights and everything unlike before, but no boot. Instead I get this strange beep that starts loud and gradually lowers in volume while it sound like it's echoing. The Echoing beeps happen a total of 7 times. So I tried looking it up and on the Dell site it says that 7 beeps is a CPU failure. However, when I went and found videos of people recording their beeps on their Dells, theirs sound nothing like mine. Theirs sound like an alarm clock where as mine sounds like one beep in an echoey cave lol. So I need to know, is the CPU that came with the brand new motherboard, that is also glued on, shot? Or could this be a completely different beep code from what's listed? If need be I can record and upload the sound.

Answer:Strange Dell Beep Code

I would post a copy of the sound.

Hello again,
A friend of mine brought me his Dell Dimension 2350, to fix. The unit had assorted spyware, trojans, a virus, etc. It had XP home on it. I only had a copy of XP pro, so I reinstalled it instead of home. I deleted the old partitions in the process, and created a new one. I installed a firewall and antivirus program. I ran all the MS updates, I defragged the HDD, and after one long day, I had it all dialed in. Until I rebooted that is. Then, I noticed that the unit will not power up unless I depress the power button for about 5 seconds. The unit then gives 2 long and 3 short beeps, and boots to Windows where everything seems to be in order and working fine. The Dell website lists the beeps as " IDE subsystem failure" but I see no visual indications of anything amiss. Any help on this is greatly appreciated. Thank you
