Avast Premier vs Comodo Firewall + Avast free

Question: Avast Premier vs Comodo Firewall + Avast free

Hi

A friend gives me an Avast Premium license for 8 months. I am using a free combo with Comodo Firewall (Cruelsister settings) and Avast (Jack settings) and I have doubts about which option protects me better.

I dont know the quality of the Avast firewall, I also dont know the level of its sandbox and on the other hand, Comodo Firewall is not comfortable to maintain, since it blocks legitimate programs, browser extensions, and even Windows updates.

I know I can have Sandboxie installed on my computer to act on demand, but what I'm most interested in knowing is what configuration do you advise me regarding protection.

Thank you in advance

Preferred Solution: Avast Premier vs Comodo Firewall + Avast free

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Avast Premier vs Comodo Firewall + Avast free

Avast is sux better totaly change it to other software... go use fully Comodo and instal free zemana and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for o/d scan. if you dont like comodo sandbox you can use free version of sandboxie at last.

I want to use avast free av with comodo firewall. Will behaviour shield of avast conflict with comodo firewall at cruelsister's settings on windows 10?

Which would be better for performance, avast or wd?
How is this setup of using wd/avast free with kaspersky anti ransomware tool for business.
When answering my query, please kep in mind i want the setup for normal users like my friends who don't have any technical knowledge nor they can bear their apps and games getting blocked.

Answer:Is there any conflict with Avast Free and Comodo Firewall?

Conflict between Avast's Behaviour Shield and Comodo Firewall had been fixed in version 17.2.2288 (see release history). Since you've said that you want antivirus for which you don't have to have techincal knowledge, I'd recommend Bitdefender Free. It's light on RAM & CPU and it doesn't have any advanced settings but still offers very good protection. You just need to install it, create Bitdefender account and then sign in inside program, that's it.

I have always used Avast and Comodo as my AV/Firewall combination. I find it to be very useful, and although Comodo provides many annoying popups, they are useful and informational (I would consider myself a competent computer user, though no expert).

Recently, I just wanted to see how good my combination was and if there was a better one. I found topics that said of how Avast's web shield completely bypasssed Comodo's rules. I tested this:

1) Block chrome.exe in Comodo completely
2) Check that both Comodo and Avast are updated, and Avast web shield ON
3) Open Chrome and see what happens

Results: At first I thought it was fine, google.com was blocked. Then I tried clicking on bookmarks. yahoo.com would open, youtube.com would open, etc. I was shocked to find that Comodo was letting these websites open even though chrome.exe was blocked!

After doing some more research, and realizing that this was a big problem, and that many solutions did not work, with avast being blamed or comodo being outdated, or even that Win 7 64 bit was limiting comodo, I tested it again with web shield OFF.

I repeated the process of blocking chrome and opened google.com and other websites. This time all the websites were blocked!

Is there a solution where I can keep web shield on and have comodo be effective in blocking? Or do I need a new firewall?

I want install Avast or Avira. But Avira doesn't have a firewall, so I want install avira + comodo firewall.

Which would be better for zero day malware protection and signatures: Avast Internet Security 2016 Or Avira+ Comodo firewall

Answer:Avast Internet Security 2016 VS Avira Free + Comodo Firewall

Avira + Comodo firewall is almost unbreakable. Best signatures and best proactive for zero day malwares.

Hello All!
So, the title of this thread should be sufficient for what I want to know .
But...

So I used avast some 4 - 5 years ago (the free version). And it was all good.
For some reason, I just felt the urge to use avast again. But this time, using their entire suite.

So my question are:
.In what state is avast in currently? (Is it any good?)
.How is it compared to KIS 15 and Comodo?
.Is their firewall still good? (how does it compare to comodo's award winning firewall?)
.How is it with privacy? (does it work well with Cyberghost & utorrent?)

If I recall correctly their sandbox was really good (like sandboxie)
is this still the case?

I think that is all .
As a side question. Is cyberghost any good for privacy / torrenting?

Thanks for all answers

(Machine this will be used on, if its recommended and good Windows 8.1 x64)

It happens that sometimes my laptop's internet connection blocks itself and it stops working. (the common yellow sign). It fixes when i disable Avast Premier Firewall and disable & re-enable the wifi. Then i have connection and can turn the Firewall back on, and have no problem for a while.

Any ideas why this may be happening? Haven't tweaked much the Firewall since it isn't that advanced.

Thanks!

backup your current settings except the firewall -> reset everything -> restore from the backup and not the firewall rules
if the problem still persists -> set the firewall rule to auto-decide and also check the allowed ports for each applications
disable windows firewall to prevent conflictions
choose your wifi as Private, uncheck "Friends"

avast firewall is a bit hard to play with and it may cause some unexpected problems
first we should let it auto-decide for a few days and then we can play around with the settings

Or should i just stick to the AVAST and Windows Defender. I just need to ensure that i can get the maximum possible FREE protection thats possibly out there

Ok at the moment i have Avira AntiVir Personal - Free Antivirus installed with Comodo firewall. Comodo firewall settings are, Firewall security setting safe mode, Defence+ security setting safe mode and sandbox security setting disabled. If i took off Avira which i want to do to replace with Avast what settings would you recommend for Avast and Comodo. Or would it be better to go with Avast and Vista's firewall?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Changing to Avast combining with Comodo firewall

RE: Changing to Avast combing with Comodo firewall

Well if I'm not sure about this but Avast have implement a behavior blocker and a sandbox while Comodo Firewall have defense + so it made an overkill there.

If you want in Avast make a custom installation removed behavior blocker

In comodo firewall you can turn off their sandbox if you want Defense +

Hello people!

Look, I have been testing Avast for 7 months or a little more, and it turns out that one of my teams installed the famous "Reimage Repair" which annoyed me a lot .. I did an analysis and did not detect what was quite annoying And send it to Virustotal and comfortable if I detected it as a virus to which my question is;

What do I recommend Avast Free? Comodo Internet Security? Or both?

Is it possible to have both assets or is it crazy? Since I am aware that having two antivirus is not good at all ... If I recommend the two, which settings do I recommend to keep both?

If something is not understood tell me and I leave the doubt, From now thank you very much!

I want to use avast free with comodo fw.
I can set exclusion for comodo in avast free but not able to do the other way round.
Can anyone tell me how to set exclusion for avast from comodo fw so that it will be excluded from monitoring by every component of comodo fw?

Answer:Setting exclusion in Comodo Firewall to work with Avast

What component of Comodo FW you want to exclude from monitoring Avast. You have shellcode injection exclusion under Advanced Protection Configuration > Miscellaneous Settings > Exclusions "In case you want to exclude certain applications from shellcode injection protection". Other than that, what you have left is to make sure all Avast process and services are listed in your HIPS rules as "Windows System Application" meaning freely allowed, in case you have HIPS enabled. If HIPS is disabled then the FW traffic rules and the rest it's the same just rules.

A few months ago, my mother bought herself a new laptop and at first she used the free Norton trial for antivirus and firewall protection until it expired, then used the trial version of Kaspersky, which is about to expire. I was thinking about downloading Avast antivirus on to her laptop for her, but as far as I know, it doesn't have a firewall, so I was thinking of also downloading the Comodo firewall.

So my question is this: is Avast antivirus with Comodo firewall a good combination? are they compatible? And do they work well on a laptop? I have heard of some laptops having problems running Avast so I'm not 100% sure about using it, and I'm not sure if there are any compatibility issues between Avast antivirus and Commodo firewall, so that's why I am asking.

I appreciate any help or opinions on this.

Hello, I have an Acer Aspire One netbook running Windows 7 Home Premium, and I need protection. It only has 1GB of RAM, so would I get Avast! free 5.1 or Comodo internet security 5.0? I was thinking of maybe MSE 2.0, but heard it is not RAM friendly.

Answer:Avast! Free 5.1 final vs Comodo Internet security 5.0

I wouldnt use Comodo AV since its hasnt been tested and it has an okay detection. The backbone of the whole suite of comodo is the D+ which is a HIPS.

Why not use Avast Free + Comodo FW w/ D+? You get a very good AV and an excellent firewall+hips program.

I know that the free version is light weight but Internet Security may be higher considering that it uses a firewall and various other stuff. But to be honest I have no idea. I would recommend trying to trial version of Internet Security and see how it does and then try out the free version.

I am trying to download this Belkin Advisor program so I can have it tell me the guts of my computer for... who knows whar reason really. I got to get this info to Garmanma for him to help me. I successfully completed the download to my program files and when I clicked to open it I got an error message that read "not a valid Win 32 application". As I've seen this before today I thought maybe I should try opening the file with this new IZarc program to maybe unzip it..? I don't know what I'm doing really. So then I downloaded the Belcan Advisor again but this time I put it in my systems Win32 file and tried to open it from there. That error message read "access to the specified device or path or file is denied". What the heck am I doing wrong now? I re-read the Belcan sites FAQ and there was mention that my "firewall" might be denying something. I don't know that I have a firewall but I do have Avast downloaded on this Win2000 Pro and it's the free version and it seems to run all the time and I have never had this problem before so I don't know the answer. In cleaning up a mess over on the "HJT log" forum the advisor who helped me out noted that I'm only using the built-in Windows firewall, and that I really need a firewall that can monitor outgoing as well as incoming traffic. Based on my experience, I'm inclined to (belatedly) agree with him. He suggested either ZoneAlarm or PC Tool Firewall Plus.

I'm leaning towards ZoneAlarm, based on what I've heard in the past, but I would like to know if anyone has any experience in running the ZoneAlarm Free firewall with Avast! Antivirus 4.8 (free version). Will they work well together without conflicts? A quick check on Google was inconclusive.

Does anyone have any real-world experience?

Today I will show you small tip how to deal with avast free ads

Pros:
- No ads in avast UI, and probably no annoying popups
- AV components still work normally. Signatures and program updates are not affected - Tested
- Potentially less resource & bandwidth usage
Cons:
- Avast UI won't be able to connect to the internet: "The online content is unavailable"
- Must be unblocked to register a new 365-day free subscription
- (...to be added if any...)

Screenshots:

Spoiler: Expand

Steps:
1/ Control Panel -> System and Security -> Windows Firewall -> Advanced settings
2/ Outbound Rules -> New Rule -> Program -> Next
3/ ?This Program Path? -> Browse... -> to Avast install directory (usually C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast) -> choose AvastUI.exe -> Next
4/ Block the connection -> Next -> Next
5/ "Name:" -> Type AvastUI -> Finish

You can do similar steps if you use other third-party firewalls, Make sure you block AvastUI.exe

Have fun

I've previously used Avast free antivirus with ZoneAlarm firewall and also with Comodo firewall. I'm currently using Norton Internet Security but was thinking about switching to Avast free antivirus & using the Windows 7 firewall. But I was looking on the Avast forum & it appears people are having a problem with that combination.

I've read through a lot of the threads on this here forum & am left with mixed thoughts. There seems to be some problems & some people are switching from Avast 8 back to Avast 7, or to the latest version of Avast 8 which I have not seen any comments on. And of course some people are not having any problems.

Is there a consensus of opinion on which version of Avast free to use with Win7 Firewall?
If it version 7, where can I download a copy from?

Answer:Avast free antivirus + Win7 firewall ?

Hi Mike99,

I'm using the latest Avast 8 version with Outpost FW Pro (latest version 8) without any trouble even though they are not compatible. Outpost program files are added to Avast exclusion list.
Both of the above try to do the same thing but I don't allow it.
Outpost FW has 'Web Control' and 'Antispyware' but I don't use them. Avast handles Spyware for me.
Avast has browser plug ins, I don't use them. I use Opendns.
I also use Winpatrol free + WOT in Firefox 19.0.2

Apologies for the long post.

I am still using windows XP pro, unfortunately. (I tried to create an bootable Ubuntu trial disk at a friend's pc, in order to use the web that way, but unfortunately, my dvd player couldn't fully read the dvd-rom.) Meanwhile, I logged on in this unprotected state, to download a strong firewall like zonealarm.
Obviously, something happened because the next time I booted up to my computer, malwarebytes wouldn't start, Avast free was disabled and "locked" and my firewall (windows) was turned off. I disconnected my LAN, and tried to figure out what to do. I tried rebooting into safe mode, but that did not help.

At some point, I attempted a system restore, which turned out to successfully restore access to my virus protection. I was quite leery about going back online, however.

I ran Avast, and super antispyware, but they found nothing. I set a password for avast free. The next time I turned off and restarted my pc, Avast was again turned off, despite my previous system restore.

I enabled the web connection in order to install zonealarm. However it prevented me from accessing most websites, and I kept getting popups asking to access the web. I have k9 webfilter installed also. It seemed to me that there was some kind of conflict between zonealarm, firefox, and k9filter, although all were listed as trusted in the zonealarm settings. Finally, in frustration, I uninstalled zonealarm and despite the risk I came here to look for... Read more

I'm a former Bitdefender Internet Security user. Looking to experiment with other products. I want to know what is the best choice for my Windows 10 lap. I don't want my machine to get slow but need enough protection. Also, need to mention that I plug my lap to my office network so need protection from others possibly infected machines in the network.

Answer:Avast Free + Windows 10 Firewall vs Bitdefender Internet Security

I believe it is not a correct comparison between free and paid products.
BIS is a great security suite, all in one, effective and very configurable but a bit heavy on the system.
Avast is one of the best free AV, and if it is configured in hardened mode (aggressive), it provides very solid protection.
The Windows firewall does its good job, even if it is not easily configurable, but you can use third-party applications like Windows Firewall Control or Glasswire, to better manage it.

Hello community, i have some question to ask... if i install Avast Free version with voodoo shield and the firewall is Xvirus these three software (special voodoo shield never try with avast AV) can cause conflicts??

any advice is welcome,

Best regards, Anker_by

Answer:Any conflicts with Avast Free, VoodoShield and XVirus Firewall as my Protection?

It should all work fine, since Xvirus products do not interfere with other security products (no device drivers, injection and hooking, etc.). As for VoodoShield, all it does is monitor process execution and send this information back between user-mode processes and the device driver (which receives the process execution requests via a callback notification) for scanning purposes, so it should work fine alongside Avast Free Anti-Virus and Xvirus Firewall.

I recommend you always have an up-to-date system image for backup purposes, regardless, use system restore (make sure it's enabled - vendors like Avast create one automatically for you in the background during the installation progress).

I am loving it so far, and I know that I will use the AccessAnywhere feature quite a lot . Has anyone else bought or tried Avast Premier and what are your thoughts?

Even when I repeated it and then copied and pasted it on word it then finished at exactly the same place. And it did the same on wordpad or notepad. I have now done a system restore back to yesterday afternoon, as mentioned in the earlier message of which I could not wholly post, I did not do a system backup restore before updating, which I normally do. Instead of continuing with Avast, you could try ESET(paid) as it has excellent detection rate.Qihoo TS(free) is a good alternative as it has proactive defense and anti-logger features.

Hello! I'm just a newbie in this forum. I'm not sure if I'm at the right category but I just want to try my luck regarding my problem.

I uninstalled Avast Premier 2015 a few days ago since the firewall is not functioning properly. Upon reinstalling, there's this dialog box that's appearing every time I wanna open the set-up file. Refer to the image below.

"The installer cannot open the SFX archive code 0x3ee"

I already tried using Avast Cleaner (executed it at Safe Mode) but it's still reappearing. I was wondering if there's any problem in my Toshiba laptop 64-bit.

I tried HiJack This to scan for system problems. Hope someone can help me on this! Thanks!

I ran a SmartScan on Avast Premier the other morning and it warned me that Firefox hadn't updated itself. I had that resolved and downloaded a new Firefox installation just to be sure. After rebooting, Avast informed me that not all the Firefox files had been cleaned out, should it delete them. Thinking it meant files relevant to the old version, I told it to go ahead. It promptly deleted Firefox altogether.

I had to create two exceptions for it to install Opera, which I'm using at the moment. Is the current Avast only friendly to IE11? I'm running Windows 8.1, being unwilling to upgrade to Windows 10 just yet.

Scans on Avast, Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware all show no problems although Avast can't scan the Windows 10 installation files in waiting.

I had CFW .4508 installed.
I updated through GUI to the latest.
During install it gave a popup to enable Yahoo for homepage & search with options "Agree & Install" & "Cancel".
I was little confused. I thought would clicking "Cancel" abort the install. I unticked Yahoo offer & was thinking now click "Agree & Install" or "Cancel" to continue the install. I clicked "Cancel" & install completed successfully. Guess if I had clicked "Agree & Install" then it would have asked me to tick Yahoo offer.
So I find the option purposely to confuse the users.

And why the heck Yahoo offer in upgrades too?
During install I already faced the offer & declined it. I accepted this behavior of additional stuffs & offers as install is one time thing.
But now with upgrades too I have to face all the craps & thats too much.
And I am sure there will be more craps with further upgrades like Avast.

Comodo going Avast way?

Answer:Comodo going Avast way?

as Avast employees said, they need money to maintain all these free softwares and services.
You are experineced user, uncheck the offers and get your free software.
Avast do not let you to close ad popups... They advertise you daily..hourly..
But Comodo does not do this, you can close the upgrade button in the UI too.
Comodo gives this flexibility to its users.

Hello everyone

I've inherited my daughter's old laptop running Vista. After a factory reset I installed Avast 5 for AV and have run MBAM and SuperAntiSpyware with no reported problems. I then installed Comodo Firewall which installed successfully but caused Avast to stop working. I then uninstalled Comodo, now relying on the Vista firewall.

Do I need a third party firewall or is the Vista one sufficient?

If I do need a new one, please can someone recommend one that won't conflict with Avast or a way of getting Comodo to work with it.

Many thanks.

Answer:Problems with Comodo and Avast 5

Most concerns you may have heard or read about the Windows Firewall were in the XP operating system so many users were advised to use third-party alternatives. Microsoft significantly improved the firewall to address these concerns in Vista and then added more improvements in Windows 7.Windows Vista Firewall offers two-way filtering for better security than it did in XP but it is still limited. The firewall is combined with IPsec, turned on by default and set to a basic configuration that works in tandem with the Windows Service Hardening feature. If the firewall detects activity that it considers prohibited behavior according to the Service Hardenings preset rules, the firewall will block the suspicious activity. Another feature in the Vista firewall is that it can set rules based on three different types of networks using the Rules Wizard so creating firewall rules is much simpler.By default, most (not all) outbound filtering is turned off (outbound connections are allowed) and inbound filtering is turned on (inbound connections are blocked/not allowed). Why? This is what Microsoft has to say:Matt Parretta, a former spokesperson for Microsoft's PR agency, Waggener Edstrom, offered this defense: "If we turned on outbound filtering by default for consumers, it forces the user to make a trust decision for every application they run which touches the network. After they upgrade to Windows Vista or purchase a new PC with that OS, they will be prompted on the first launc... Read more

I have always had a Norton or AVG type INS but with my new Win 7 install I am going to try something new because those big suites really slowed my XP system down.

After reading many threads on the topic it seems most folks here like Avast and the Win 7 or Comodo FW. I currently have Avast and Win 7 running.

For someone that is a basic web surfer, Facebook, Hulu, JustinTV, ESPN, and an adult site or two... Do you think that the Avast and Win FW are sufficient, or should I use something more?

Before I start doing a lot of browsing I want to be sure I am protected.

Is the Comodo fw a better choice?

Thanks in advance

The Windows firewall looks good, even in its default setup. I use it on one of my systems and Comodo on the others.

I prefer Comodo because I've been using it for a while and I am familiar with it, more so that Microsoft's offerings.

I would recommend that, in addition to whichever firewall you choose you also look into loading on Web of Trust (search for WoT) a program that will give you ratings for sites and warn you when you try to go to a site with a bad reputation.

Im trying to register the trial version of Avast anti virus. When I go to register Comodo Firewall gives me this message:"Firefox is trying to act as server Parent: ashDisp.exeC:\ProgrammeFiles\AlwilSoftware\Avast4\ashDisp.exe has modified the user interface if firefox.exe by sending special windows messages. Any programme trying to modify another programme using this message may be a sign of trojan activity"And this is only 1 of 20 requests! This confueses me greatly. That looks a fairly strong message warning. Yet Avast is surely safe. If it is, then why is Comodo alarming me like this? And if Avast IS safe why is it sending "special messages" to modify the interface?Comodo comes up with a lot of warnings like this; usually i ignore them as I dont know what else to do. Would i be better off, as someone suggested, with the free version of Kerio which wont give as many options??!!And incidently, as I write this, pcadvisor page wont fully load. I still have the mouse timer on screen. I think there is some problem somewhere, Firefox wont load some pages unless I delete all cookies. Hope i havent a jumbled up pc!thnxh

Answer:Message from Comodo about Avast

Tick one of any of the boxes (no need to scroll through them) and allow it. Comodo loves giving warnings about cross-application and parent activity. You can turn that part off if it really proves to be too much.

Hi I'm a newbi on this board this is my first post. I just recently upgraded to a Windows Vista Home 64 bit. My old system was Windows xp. I found this board as I was trying to get the Norton security that came on my pc to uninstall. The info on this board is priceless. I was able to get rid of the Norton and have now installed AVAST. My question is should I also run COMODO firewall or just use the Vista firewall. And if I run the Comodo should I disarm the VF. Any input would be helpfull.
Again many thanks on the Norton issue, I was pleased to find out that I was not the only one who could not uninstall that pos.

If we're talking about Windows "10" Firewall/Defender, I might be inclined to go with Windows Defender/Firewall + some other realtime prot like Zemana over Avast AV. However, if we're talking about Windows 7, I'd go with AVAST. In my circumstances as a W7 user, I'd go with AVAST.

For the past few months I've noticed that my internet browsing is noticeable slower - sometimes in Firefox it takes 15 minutes to download a 10 MB file! - and at times my program-loading speed is much slower as well. This more or less correlates with when I accidentally allowed my free Comodo Firewall to update itself to a more robust version which contains antivirus scanning, sandbox, etc. as well as some PUP bundles. However, I already have Avast antivirus running with file system / web shields, "DeepScreen", "Home Network Security", etc., though the free version doesn't have sandbox capabilities.
Now that the newer Comodo is acting more antivirus-y, could it and Avast be clashing with each other and possibly be contributing to slower browsing? If so, do I have to uninstall one of them and switch to a different combination of firewall + AV, or is there something I can do with settings?

Answer:Does updated Comodo clash with Avast AV?

Hi shinra
It looks like you allowed COMODO Firewall to install COMODO Antivirus when it was updating itself. Having more than one Antivirus installed at the time on a system can cause system conflict and instability. You should only have one Antivirus product installed at all time on a system. You can supplement it with Antimalware since they are made to run alongside Antivirus, but not another Antivirus product. I suggest you to go in your list of installed programs, uninstall every COMODO programs and then re-download COMODO Firewall and reinstall it. If you think that COMODO Firewall is annoying or creates conflicts with avast!, you can always use the Windows Firewall, in-built, which is good enough to fit your network protection needs, assuming that you are running Windows 7 or more recent. Let me know how it goes

I'm having a lot of trouble ever since I upgraded from my old reliable but slow dialup to my new, fast, but troublesome high-speed Comcast internet. Let me try and describe these problems for you. First of all, I can't update my programs. I first noticed there was a problem when the popup error box for Avast appeared at the bottom of my screen. When I clicked on it, it said that the autoupdate couldn't complete. So I tried manually and that failed as well. I also have Comodo Firewall and that won't update either. I just tried to update Ad-aware and no, that won't either. I thought I could download Avast and begin again with an entire new program, but once downloaded, I get an error message and setup won't start. I have a button bar with my favorite websites up at the top of my screen. I have to click on some of these five or six times now to get them to open. This usually happens right after I start the computer or after I close Firefox and once they've been opened, they will open with one click, until I turn the computer off and then the whole thing happens all over again. Sometimes Firefox won't open and I get the cannot find server message. This is usually when first starting the computer as well. I've tried disabling the Comodo thinking that it might be conflicting with the firewall in the router, and I've tried using Windows firewall instead, but that did nothing to solve the problem. I've tried flushing the dns, but... Read more

I've had Comodo firewall and Avast AV for awhile now with no issues.  I just renewed my Avast AV Free and it upgraded/ updated the program.  Since then, I constantly have popups from Comodo Defense+ anytime I'm on the internet because Avast is running and its wanting me to "Allow this request".  I've googled how to make Avast a trusted program in Comodo, but all the instructions are very hard for me to understand.  Can someone explain how to get the Defense+ to recognize the new Avast program and not have the constant popups asking me to allow the program to do what its supposed to do automatically?

Is it safe to disable UAC in Vista Home if I'm using antivirus and a firewall?

It's such a pain, and it makes some programs that I use more difficult to use. They are safe, ie: I trust the source, but they sometimes have hiccups with UAC that would be easier if I could just disable it altogether.

Answer:Safe to disable UAC in Vista Home if using Avast and COMODO?

If you want my serious expert opinion, I would not disable the UAC, I use Windows 7 and as much as the UAC warning box pops up and can be an annoyance, I would rather it did and be safe than sorry.

The UAC warnings are a Windows security measure that prevents programs from making changes from your computer without your knowledge or consent.

It may be a pain, but consider the risks involved when you disable that feature, they certainly out-weigh the time it takes to click Okay.

That's just my opinion.

Bruce.

So hey. My AVG renewal is up and I really want to try something new. So my top choices are between AVAST, ESET and COMODO. I'll probably come to a conclusion myself, I know no AV is perfect after all so allot of it is down to personal preference, but I'm a little torn so I'd still like to hear a little input from someone else. I mean I'd choose ESET in a heartbeat, simply because I haven't tried them yet and I've heard nothing but good things about them, but they are also the most expensive option. Avast is a program I'm highly partial to due to their amazing community support, but I feel as though Avast's latest version has gotten slower on the machines I've installed it on, taking forever to scan and eating up more resources than before. Comodo's Firewall is just plain awesome, difficult to handle and somewhat irritating, but I like the fact that it's vigilant enough to block anything it does not recognize, but beyond the firewall I have no experience with Comodo.

There's another thing. I have several computers where I use two free programs together to get the full protection, Comodo and Avast, but I'm feeling that using them as a combo may actually be the reason Avast is so slow, but even before that Avast's scans were kinda slow. AVG and Webroot typically take half an hour to complete a routine scan whereas Avast always takes an hour or more, and takes up half of the system resources in the process.

Anyway, it'... Read more

Answer:Choosing a security suite, AVAST, ESET or COMODO?

Choosing a security suite involves many of the same questions asked when Choosing an Anti-Virus Program or Choosing a Firewall. There is no universal "one size fits all solution that works for everyone. I'm not an advocate of suites. All-in-one tools and suites generally use more system resources than separate programs that do the same task. They tend to have varying degrees of strengths and weaknesses for each feature. In contrast, separate tools are designed, built and maintained with a greater focus in a specific area so they are generally of better quality and more effective at what they are designed to do. This means the program's performance for that particular feature is usually superior than their all-in-one counterpart. Further, all-in-one tools generally do not allow the user as much flexibility in tailoring default settings and usage. If you are adamant about using a suite, then I would recommend either avast! Internet Security or ESET Smart Security.

Update: SecureAPlus test is below.

Since the "professional" (bought and certainly unbiased, nudge nudge, wink wink) AV testers don't test Comodo or Qihoo at present, I had to.

Link as to not cross-post: http://malwaretips.com/threads/is-it-safe-to-use-360-ts-or-or-other-360s-products.46792/#post-398096

TL;DR: Avast left 29 threats; Comodo, 32; Qihoo, 4

Question: is there a Win10 version of 360 Essentials?

Answer:Quick File-Detection Test: Qihoo vs Avast vs Comodo

Yes. There is a version for Windoes 10 Technical Preview. Download here : http://free.360totalsecurity.com/totalsecurity/360TS_Setup_For_Win10_TP_6.8.0.6012.exe

Answer:Avast Premier 2017 Vs Emsisoft Internet Security 2017

Both have excellent protection functions, but certainly they are two different security solutions.
I think the choice of one or the other one is really subjective, I've used Emsisoft for many years and it is my first choice

I am having a problem in my sister's laptop. She does have antivirus installed (AVG Internet Security). However, its license expired, so I downgraded it to free version. After, downgrading it, I installed Avast! as it's antivirus and decided to uninstall AVG. Then, a few minutes ago after rebooting the laptop, a window opened saying that Trojan is infecting my computer, I heal it.. Then, another pops out. Heal and heal and heal..

After doing it, I rebooted the laptop thinking that it will refresh the system. Unfortunately, after rebooting, I cannot connect to Internet now. :cry :cry :cry Help me please? I already performed the Malware removing however, it did not help the laptop. I attached the files you asked me.. Please, help please? Thank you!

I had Avast Internet Security for about 3 years. Recently, I had a computer problem and took my computer to Best Buy's Geek Squad. They installed Webroot, and uninstalled Avast. I am glad they did. Avast had automatically renewed my subscription last year and the year before, and altlhough I e-mailed them several times, I couldn't reach them to tell them that I did not want the installation. I don't want Avast anymore, but am afraid that, in the fall of this year when my present subscription expires (although the program is no longer on my computer), they will reinstall avast and automatically charge my credit card again. I need to be able to talk to someone who will assure me that this will not happen. Does anyone know how I can accomplish this and be done with Avast?

Many, many thanks for your help!

Answer:Solved: Must contact Avast antivirus people, make sure they don't reinstall Avast.

Hi! I would call my credit card company and tell them to stop the payment to Avast. If you have uninstalled Avast, they can't install it. You would have to install it.

Yesterday I used the Avast uninstaller - avastclear or such name -  to uninstall Avast trial software.  I then installed BitDefender Total Security trial yesterday.

This morning in my BitDefender Event Log, I see this entry:

The application C:\program files\common files\av\avast! antivirus\backup.exe attempted to connect to the Internet using TCP protocol on port 49etc.  Bitdefender Firewall has granted access for this application.

The next entry, about 24 minutes later was:

Firewall module status changed
Firewall has been enabled

I did nothing to disable the Firewall and have a question for BitDefender, but I am miffed that Avast is still slinking around on my computer after I uninstalled it.

Is that legal for them to do that?  How can I get ALL Avast off my computer?

Thanks for help in understanding this.

Answer:Uninstalled Avast but "avast! antivirus\backup.exe" accessed network

Backup.exe is distributed by emergency update to all avast versions...read the explanation by petr_matrix, Avast team in this avast topic. Did you use Windows Explorer to physically search for and confirm that backup.exe is still in that location?Yesterday I used the Avast uninstaller - avastclear or such name - to uninstall Avast trial software.Did you run avastclear in safe mode...per these instructions? If not, that may explain why it was not removed.BitDefender Total Security includes a Firewall. Anti-virus vendors which offer suites with a Firewall allow their programs to manage Windows Security Center & Firewall by default so it has complete control in order to prevent conflicts and duplicate warnings. This management action is normally taken during installation and many users are unaware of this fact. Windows 8/10 Defender and Microsoft Security Essentials are also typically disabled when installing third-party anti-virus software.

I got a pop up that said my virus protection found a bad toolbar and wanted to remove it.  After that my computer kept rebooting.  Finally I was able to debug the boot up and was able to finally use my computer.  My firefox was disabled, so was Maleware Bytes, Avast, and other programs.  I was able to reinstall Maleware Bytes which found one virus (pup.optional.sweetIM.a).  I wasn't able to reinstall Avast! so I installed AVG which didn't find any viruses.  My kids have been using my computer lately and I've had to remove other viruses they accidentally installed.  At this point, I'm pretty sure I still have a problem.

Hello,
I am having a few problems with my system (currently using Windows 7 Home Premium). Here followes a not-so short description of my problem:
A few days ago, I encountered a somewhat strange problem. While browsing (using Firefox), the computer suddenly froze. I assumed it was caused by an unresponsive script in Firefox , which happen all the time owing to the large number of tabs I run simultaneously, which usually stop in a matter of seconds (sometimes minutes). I did, however, get impatient, and shut down the computer by pressing the on/off button. When I restarted, it updated the registry (nothing strange there, I presume it was the Windows updates that it was installing). However, when I logged on, the Avast! antivirus software I was using was disabled (which caused me to shut down the internet connection immediately so that further (possible) infection could be avoided), and when I tried to restart the Avast! service, it gave me the following message: "Unable to start the File System Shield! Shield unreachable." I tried scanning as well, which resulted in this message: "File System Shield provider not found." Messing around with avast! did, however, slow down the computer tremendously, and the CPU usage was subsequently stuck at a 100%, and I was hardly able to use the computer. Therefore, I shut it off again. When I started it this time, I could not log on: logging on simply resulted in a black screen. I found this highly distur... Read more

I am currently running:Avast! Free EditionWindows DefenderMalwarebytes Anti-Malware (free edition)Windows FirewallI don't like Windows Defender. I want to replace it with another, free, reliable anti-spyware program. What should I use? SOMETHING THAT IS CONFLICT-FREE WITH AVAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!And overall, do i have good protection? EDIT: Apparently, Avast! auto-updates every 240 minutes, by default. I thought it updated immediately when there were new virus definitions? Can I set it so that it updates like this?

Answer:Best FREE anti-spyware program? (must be conflict-free with avast! home)

1) You cannot set an av to update when there are new definitions - how would it know? 2) I don't care for Windows Defender either and I always disable it on all of my systems. You're fine without it. The only thing I would add to what you already use is SpywareBlaster free edition. It does NOT run resident and you need to remember to update it about once a week. It blocks known malicious web sites. Other than that you should be fine.
