HDMI output suddenly not recognised/detected

Question: HDMI output suddenly not recognised/detected

Hi.

I've been using my laptop, outputting to my TV via HDMI for Months with no difficulty. Usually, the displays are duplicated as I have resolution issues if I output to just the TV ('show only on 2').

Yesterday, I changed the output to 'show only on 2'. Sure enough, it worked fine, my laptop display turned off, but the resolution was way too high, so I reverted back to 'Duplicate my displays'. The image on the TV stopped and it dropped to a 'no signal' screen, my built-in display was (and remains) fine. It now refuses to detect the HDMI output. The TV does recognise there is a device plugged into the HDMI port, but says 'no signal'. I've tried two HDMI leads, both same result (and both work fine on two other devices into the same TV using various inputs). My laptop just point blank refuses to see the TV. I've tried the Win+P thing, I've rolled back drivers, reinstalled drivers. I can't understand why this has happened and how to fix it, and it's important I am able to use my television as a display.

I really hope someone can help. Googling has brought up kind of similar issues, but not exactly this issue.

Thank you.

Hi,

I am having a problem with hdmi output to my HDMI capable TV.
Nvidia sees tv but windows sees "another display not detected".
I've tried reinstalling, updating drivers, followed recommended solutions here but nothing seems to solve the problem.

I have a qosmio x500 128 with reformatted/reinstalled windows 7 x64, with all old and and or new Toshiba drivers that I can think of. I've tried everything but nothing works. BIOS is the latest v2.80.

I've never had any problems with Toshiba laptops but this one takes the biscuit.
Too many problems for the price.
Things should have been easier especially for someone who knows about computers never mind a novice.

But I haven't got a clue!

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks.

Answer:Qosmio X500 HDMI output issue - another display not detected

> Nvidia sees tv but windows sees "another display not detected".
I?m little bit confused? how do you mean that?

Usually there are no many configuration options?.
Connect both devices (notebook + TV) using HDMI cable and then use FN + F5 in order to switch to the TV.
That?s it?

Please also check BIOS settings? in my case the BIOS contain some options related to external monitor.

Answer:AMD HDMI output not plugged in,no sound card detected in dxdiag

The AMD HDMI is ONLY for HDMI audio and not for regular PC audio. Unless there is an HDMI cable plugged in, you will get the no cable plugged in notice.

Please post the motherboard manufacturer and model number. Without that I can't say what sound is on the PC's motherboard (for regular PC audio). But, if the PC audio is enabled in the BIOS and is Windows 7 compatible, Windows would install the generic, basic function, HD Audio Driver (Codec) and the PC sound would work. If the sound chip on the motherboard is not Windows 7 compatible (an old Win XP hardware) you will have to install a sound card to have PC audio.

The DX Diag, because the sound is not there, does not help.

GA-890GPA-UD3H (rev. 3.1)

GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket AM3+ - GA-890GPA-UD3H (rev. 3.1)

(Note 3) Simultaneous output for DVI-D and HDMI is not supported.

What I'm trying to do is output just my sound to the receiver via HDMI cable, but still use the DVI to my monitor for video. From the note above taken from the MB specs, sounds like this is not possible.

This is new business to me and wondering how others do this, seems little information I can find. I am ordering a HDMI to DVI cable so I can disconnect the DVI cable from the computer and instead run both video and sound through HDMI to the receiver, then the video to the monitor. Hoping this works.

If all fails then I am relegated to separate digital through S/PDIF optical link, to my receiver. According to the experts this is less than ideal since now, the multi-channel dolby and DTS signals can only be received via HDMI.

Wondering if I get a Blu-ray player for my computer how this is going to all work out. Hoping that HDMI to DVI cable does the trick.

Anyone with experience with this kind of set-up and the aforementioned hardware greatly appreciated.

And Happy NEW YEAR!

Answer:Gigabyte HDMI output to Yamaha receiver - no sound output

As you have a separate video card, its capabilities should determine how the video works, not the motherboard. The video is routed to the video card.

If you had some type of integrated Video on the motherboard then the motherboard's specs would apply. For example, I have an Intel i7 3770 CPU and this model has built in Intel HD4000 video which is routed to motherboard video connectors and thus the motherboard would determine how the video is distributed. However, I'm using a separate video card and thus that determines how video is distributed.

Hi

I am having problems getting sound through my HDMI port on the laptop. I have updated everything I can and no joy. When I go to the sound properties there is no option to set HDMI ad your default. I ideas guys as this is really starting to get to me.

I seen an older post about this for the same laptop but it has been closed but none of the answers worked for me. It?s weird as I can see the Intel high definition audio driver in device manager but it is not appearing in sound properties. Is there a new driver for this?

My current driver is 6.10.0.2035

Any help would be much appreciated guys

Hi

I followed the instructions in the manual regarding directing sound to the HDMI output.
However when I go to the Sound control panel there is no Digital Output Device (HDMI) listed only the Conexant Speaker and SPDIF outputs.
I tried the SPDIF output as the default, that didn't work.
The HDMI is working just fine for the picture but the lack of sound through it is driving me nuts.

I'm running VISTA (fully updated) on a U400-145

Anyone any ideas how I can get the HDMI output to show up as an option?

andy

Answer:Re: Satellite U400-145: HDMI Output no option to select HDMI as default

Hi

Go to Control Panel -> Sound -> Playback tab
There you have to click right.
Then mark the options; ?Show all disabled devices?
Then you should see the HDMI.
Now you could enable it and chose as default.

Streamed movies from the Microsoft Video App on the Surface 2 to a 1080P TV screen is very poor quality. The video shown on the TV is not nearly as sharp as the video on the computer's screen. It is much darker and with a splotchy appearance. Tried other TVs with the same result.

Hello guys!

I recently ran into a problem with my main LCD TV(I need to replace the power supply.) I use that LCD TV for my desktop computer, and right now all I have is my laptop. I use synergy to control both computers. However now it doesn't matter because I cannot see the desktop portion. Is there anyway for me to output my desktop computer to my laptop monitor?

Both my Desktop and Laptop have HDMI input. I also have the HDMI cord on hand right now I just don't know how I'd go about setting it up. I'd like to use synergy to control the desktop AND have it's output be on the laptop until my power supply arrives and I can fix my TV.

I'm trying to hook up my TV with my computer, and for the most part it's working. The video goes through and I get how to control it and everything. The only thing not working is the sound.

I'm using an HDMI to HDMI cable, and like I said the video is fine. Also, when the cable is plugged into my boyfriend's laptop, the sound comes out of the TV.

So this must mean the problem is with my computer specifically. Although, this computer is only a month old, so I wouldn't think anything is out of date.

I have no idea what's relevant, so I don't know what to post screenshots of, but I've read tons of other threads with the same issues but none of their solutions seem to work for me.

Answer:Realtek HDMI Output ATI HDMI Audio -Not Plugged In-

Info on your computer would help. We can only talk in generalites or suggestions without it. In most cases, if you have a full HDMI port with both audio and video, when you plug in an HDMI cable Windows changes the default audio playback device from the "Speakers" (your PC sound card) to "HDMI".

In your case the ATI (now called AMD) should be the device that is feeding the video and audio.

As your PC is only 1 month old, the PC vendor's tech support should be the ones to call since you haven't been able to find a solution to date.

Good afternoon I have a problem with the VGA output of my laptop Toshiba Satellite L500

Using the HDMI output I have no problem to connect to any TV.
The fact is that when I use the VGA output having the laptop on the side, on TV I get colored vertical stripes similar to a letter setting ....

Here I leave a picture of what appears to me to connect the VGA output of my laptop to a TV:

http://s2.subirimagenes.com/otros/previo/thump_8005040zqicw.jpg

tried another laptop to my TV and looks great, ..
then ...
Am I missing some driver ... do not you think?
Why is my HDMI works perfectly but my VGA displays vertical colored lines? ..
Not to do ...
This is hopeless ... I need the VGA output of my laptop toshiba l500 to work.

Greetings from Spain.

Answer:Satellite L500 -HDMI video output works fine but VGA video output don't

Maybe stupid question at the beginning but why do you need VGA connection if HDMI works perfectly? I mean using HDMI you will have better pic quality and also sound will be transferred to the TV.
Using VGA only video signal will be send to the TV.

Anyway, I don?t know which driver do you use. Is your notebook preinstalled with original OS that you got with your notebook?
Do you use ?TV only option? when this happen?

Hi,

So eagerly i tought to buy this cool looking laptop for a huge $2000 i needed it to output to a hdmi monitor ot TV so sometimes i could see movies as well, now i had to buy the special DA200 dell adaptor and in the past 3 weeks it`s been a complete nightmare, i WAS NEVER ABLE to make it work permanently. The chat support was no help at all usually simply resuming to try and replace the part but i do think the part is good and i didn't feel like waiting 2 weeks for it to ship from china.

The ethernet and usb work on the DA200 adaptor , EXCEPT HDMI.  SOMETIMES it would work briefly until next restart, i had tried everything ever available on the internet. The laptop is running Windows 10 (as it`s restricted to that version, i tried to install other versions with lots of issues and compatibility issues) so  i have installed reinstalled and installed different versions of the video driver for all possible windowses and none worked. what did work was very brief until next restart and that usually happened when i had a fresh windows install, after the first restart i will get a non working hdmi again.

I have tried several hdmi cables so i know it`s not the hdmi cable or the tv ot the monitor. and nobody seems to be able to help!!

Hello, I own a T420s 4173-RB5 (Intel integrated graphics only) and a Mini Dock Plus Series 3 (45N6693).  Until yesterday, I had connected one 19" display to the docking station's VGA port and another one to the first DVI port.  That works fine except for the worse image quality on the VGA-connected display. That's why I got another DVI cable and wanted to connect both displays via DVI. The problem: Windows 7 does not recognise the display connected to the second DVI port (the one connected to the first port works fine).  The display does not show up in that dialog box where you can change resolutions.  It only offers to try to send data to unrecognised VGA or FBAS connected devices but that does not help (as there is nothing connected to those ports).  However, under Linux everything works as expected, even with both displays connected to the DVI ports.  Thus, I conclude there are no hardware problems. I have already updated the Intel graphics drivers several times.  I am now at version 8.15.10.2622 which is the one to be found on the Lenovo support website.  The interesting thing is that immediately after the driver's setup completes the second display works!  I have just reinstalled the driver again ("updating" from 2622 to 2622) and am working with both displays connected to DVI at this moment.  But after every reboot, the second display is lost again and I would have to reinstall that driver again, so t... My brand new Omen 870-163ng has 2 HDMI ports, but no DVI or else. When I connect my iiyama ProLite E2472HD monitor the message on the screen says 'no signal detected'. Since the PC has only HDMI ports it is pretty difficult to trouble shoot. The PC was already replaced, but the 2nd one has the same problem. The monitor works well on HDMI on other devices. I can return the PC again to the vendor, and he is happy to replace it, however, after two tries it is hard to believe that the next one will do better. Could you help me please?

Answer:HDMI port not recognised

I'm not an expert but what I would tell you to do is to check if the HDMI cable is damaged and if it's still not working check if the HDMI port is damaged. (Sorry if this wasn't useful. ).

Sorry if this appears really stupid but I dont know much about graphic cards.

I installed a new graphics card EVGA Nvidia Ge Force 610. It has 3 ports DVI. HDMI & VGA.
I have 2 monitors. One is VGA only, and the main monitor is new and supports DVI. HDMI & VGA.

I though probably stupidly, that I could connect my main monitor to the HDMI port and the 2nd monitor to the VGA port and all would work fine.

After installation I decided to try just the main monitor first. I connected to the VGA port, installed the drivers and all is ok. I then changed the settings on the monitor to HDMI, plugged in the HDMI cable but just get a blue screen with a "No HDMI " box showing.

Please could someone tell me how to get the HDMI working.

Also Is this I though probably stupidly, that I could connect my main monitor to the HDMI port and the 2nd monitor to the VGA port and all would work fine.just stupid. Will I still need to use the DVI port with splitter cables to use dual monitors with extended display, as was my current setup.

Is there any way to make use of the HDMI and still have dual monitors. Thank you.

My HDMI cable works OK from laptop to TV. Its a BABZ HC007 BZ10714C high speed HDMItm cable with ethernet E321484

Answer:HDMI not recognised by monitor.

Did you remember to disconnect the VGA cable before switching to HDMI?

I have a feeling what you are running into is a hardware limitation of the card in that it can use either the DVI and HDMI or VGA port at the same time, but not the VGA and HDMI port at the same time. If that is the case the easiest solution is to pick up a DVI cable and you should be good to go. And no if that works you don't need a splitter of any kind to run dual monitors.

Hello everybody,

I have a Windows 7 enterprise 64 bit pc and an Onkyo receiver. I used to have them linked with an aux cable for music. But since I had enough of the bad sound quality I bought an optical cable and connected it. Now I have the problem that my subwoofer gives a lot of less sound then with the aux cable with the exact same settings and music. Also my pc recognises the optical cable as an HDMI cable and I don't think this is right. I can't change any settings either in the sound.

Pc Wizard told me I have this onboard sound card:

Pine Technology HD48x0 audio

I hope someone can help me with this.

Hello all,
for some unknown reason our Canon MG5150 InkJet Printer doesnt get recognized by any of the computers or laptops in our house. i have re-installed the drivers on several of those pc's but its had no effect.

during the driver install the software fails to detect any device. but any other time you plug the usb cable in a message box appears saying USB Device Not Recognized.

i recently bought a new pc tower, using win7 Pro and 64bit system with 32GB ram, i downloaded the 64 bit drivers for the printer from the Canon website but even that gets the same errors when installing the drivers.

my 10 year old son was printing stuff off about 3 weeks ago and since then we've had this problem. ive even tried searching for ways to reset the printer back to factory defaults but had no luck with that either.

can anyone give me some advice as to how to fix this issue.

cheers

Hello all,
I purchased an HP Pavilion 7966 1.7GHz P4 in 2001 from Best Buy. It has an 80GB Seagate ST380020A drive in it that over time got very noisy (making whiny, screeching noises) and so I purchased Gibson Spinrite and ran it on the drive. Spinrite found tonnes of bad sectors, and each time I ran it (I ran it 2 or 3 times) it found even more. The drive continued to get even noisier and Spinrite said it was dangerously overheated. I don't have any extra hardware in the machine, so the airflow should be as good as it was when purchased. Well, I went into Best Buy and asked if my drive could be replaced under Seagate's three-year warranty. BB said that because I didn't purchase the drive OEM directly from Seagate, it was only covered by BB's $300 three-year warranty (which I didn't purchase). So I swallowed the loss and purchased a Western Digital Caviar 120GB drive from ZipZoomFly.
I have Norton Ghost and Ghostcast Server at work, so I took my machine to work with the purpose of imaging the 80GB and then putting the 120GB in and dumping the image back down. Well, suddenly the Pavilion no longer recognises the Seagate: it says 'hard drive not found' when I boot it up. Is that drive totally toast?
(And yes, I make regular backups every few months but still want to get what's on the drive.)

Answer:Seagate ST380020A suddenly not recognised

Well sorry to say but it's not looking good for you with that drive. I bought a Seagate 200gb drive today ($75 after rebate + 5 year warranty = good deal) and hope mine will turn out better than your experience. Unplug the IDE cable from the Seagate drive and then plug it right back in. Turn on the computer and see if that helps. Sometimes little things like that can do it. Also, I have a friend that one time had a dying hard drive and he stuck the drive in his refrigerator for about half an hour and let it get really cool...he was able to get his data off of it after that. I know it sounds crazy, but when you have nothing to lose, you may as well try it out.

I am running Windows Vista, and don't know if this is a hardware problem, a software problem, or a malware problem. Hopefully someone can tell me.

I was typing in an instant message in the 3D grid "Second Life," when my keyboard suddenly just stopped working. My computer started making the default "you just unplugged something" noise, followed by the "you just plugged something in" noise. It did this several times in a row, giving me a little pop-up that Windows did not recognize the USB device.

I unplugged the keyboard and it all stopped. After a moment, the keyboard worked fine again, for a few minutes, then repeated the problem. However, unplugging and re-plugging the keyboard back into the computer, both in the same and in different USB ports, have all yielded the same results - it works fine for a little while, then randomly stops being able to recognize the keyboard.

I tried updating the driver for the keyboard, but it did not come with a install CD, and when I tell it to automatically search online, it simply sits there for an hour with no results. In the course of posting this problem to this forum, the problem has occurred twice.

I hope someone can enlighten me as to why this is happening, and how to fix it. Thank you for taking the time to read this post, and I look forward to any feedback anyone can give.

~Dalik~

Hi everyone

The issue i have is that when i connect my laptop to my tv via HDMI i cannot get any audio, the video works like it should. It constantly says "not plugged in" and is greyed out in playback devices. The issue is only when running windows 10, when i boot into Ubuntu on the same machine the HDMI connection works perfectly so i figured it cant be a hardware problem....

I have tried installing AMD legacy drivers, updating my graphic and audio drivers through windows updating and searching the web for older drivers as it has worked in the past. I have also performed a reset in win 10 because had been playing around with scheduled tasks to try and improve boot time on my ageing machine.

Also tried starting the computer with the HDMI cord already plugged in and the TV on just in case it was some sort of issue recognizing it getting plugged in. Have also tried deleting drivers and restarting with the cord still attached.

My Laptop is a Compaq Presario CQ62 402AU

You'll probably have to do this before you connect the TV to the laptop.Or, you might need to right click on desktop and go into "Personalize". Then click on "Display Settings". Then click on "Monitors".

Hai all... After upgrading to Win 8.1 64bit, my HDMI output can't display/work. I'm trying to connect to TV via HDMI converter (HDMI to AV RCA (yellow-red-white). Anyw, the VGA output (extend/duplicate display to 2nd CPU monitor) work just fine.  My notebook:HP 430 Notebook PCModel #: LV435PASerial #: 5CB1279DJG This model has Intel HD 3000 and Radeon 7400M Thanks alot

Answer:HDMI no output

Your notebook was not supported by HP for upgrading to Windows 10. The last OS that was supported was Windows 7. You can try the most recent driver download from AMD.

Question: No HDMI output

Hi,

Since a lot of my pc problems I solve by searching this forum as well, I turn to you guys with my latest problem for which I can not find an answer.

There is no output on my HDMI port and I wonder if there is a way to check if it is a hardware problem?

I have new pc (win7, ASUS gtx660) and was trying to get HDMI out to TV. I couldn't get pc to list the TV as display option (within Win7 and NVIDIA app). I tested with two HDMI cables and in addition with two TVs. But later I discovered that I don't get picture to my monitor via HDMI either (DVI and DP work perfectly). Since I see people are having a lot of problems with HDMI to TV connection with Win7, there might still be a driver issue (even though I updated everything, including graphic card BIOS).

I've had a hardware failure recently - USB 2.0 ports on motherboard failed (I had to replace it) and laser jet printer failed at the same time (was connected to USB 2.0 ports; printer board was replaced). Still don't know what was the initiating event.

Thank you so much for your help!

Answer:No HDMI output

HI

Is your Windows 7 OS fully up to date and at SP1?
Is Windows 7 32bit or 64bit?

I would first off check that on the TV you have chosen the right HDMI port connection via the remote control options, sounds a simple thing but as many TVs have multiple HDMI ports its often overlooked.

Do the same with your monitor as they can switch between DVI and HDMI if the said Monitor has both options, it could just need swapping over to HDMI.

Lastly I would completely uninstall your graphics driver and use this application Driver Fusion (note the warning on 3rd party bundled applications and check the install and only install the application and not the bundled software) and uninstall the driver.

Then re-install the latest NVidia driver from ASUS HERE for your model, reboot and test. I would have linked directly to the driver but don't know if your 32bit/64bit and the exact model of card.

hello all,  i have a hp dv6 7029wm laptop,  and the Hard drive is starting to fail pretty hard core, so i went today and bought a SSD for it,

wait first let me say this,  the screen is gone *like cracked and all white with black spots all over cause it was dropped*

anyways, i installed the SSD onto another computer to install windows 7, which went smooth as possible,  i put the SSD into the laptop and powered it on i hear the windows sounds and all i can see little movement on the laptop screen,

My main problem is when i plug the HDMI or the VGA in, nothing happens on either screen,  So i was wondering how can i go about getting this fixed so i can install the correct drivers and have a somewhat normally functional laptop.

ive tried installing the laptop drivers while the SSD was in another computer * does not work  computer just crashs due to wrong drivers being installed*

I cant think of anything and time is ticking with this old hdd * which i am currently using. * yes i know not the best decision ive made.*

any ideas i can use?

there are vga to hdmi cables, but they WILL NOT WORK. you MUST buy an actual converter like above to convert an analog signal (VGA) to a digital signal (HDMI)

Is there any way I can add an HDMI output connector to my T61? At the front of the left side of my T61, there is a spring loaded door that appears it is meant to accept some type of card. Is there perhaps a video card with an hdmi output that might fit there or else some other way I can get HDMI output for my graphics?

Answer:Any Way I Can Add HDMI Output to my T61?

There are two docking stations you can use with your T61, the advanced mini dock, and advanced dock. Both allow for digital video, and the latter supports installation of a PCIe (lp) video card, so you can install the card of your choice, as long as it fits in the case and doesn't exceed the docks maximum power recommendations. Either of these docking stations can be purchased very cheaply from resellers.

Question: No HDMI output

I have been trying for 2 week, to no avail, to connect an external monitor to extend my desktop to my ASUS ET2203 through an HDMI cable to an ASUS VE245HA. My graphics card is an ATI Radeon Mobility 4570.
I have:
updated the drivers and Catalyst Command Center
Changed cables
Attempted to force output, but the only output available i through VGA, and it will not output anything
Reset my whole PC to factory setting just in case
Spent over an hour with tech support, who claims it should simply plug and play.
Screwed with the output resolutions.

Nothing has helped.

When i connect the hdmi cable to the back of the PC, there is no automatic discovery in windows.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Question: HDMI Output?

I just bought myself a new Samsung 42 HDTV to use with my ATI Radeon HD 4350(?)

Question is, does my pc now output its graphics in HDMI, or only when i watch HD movies through it? I've looked and looked but no dice so i thought i'd ask you bunch of experts

Answer:HDMI Output?

Your PC outputs it's video signal via whatever cable is connecting the graphic card to the display. If you have it connected via HDMI then your PC is outputting the video via HDMI. HDMI is just the name of the interface. Whether you're watching HD movies or not, the signal is still being output through HDMI. Your PC doesn't output "HDMI". If it's connected with HDMI, then it outputs in "digital" as HDMI is a digital interface.

Question: no hdmi output

please help me with this issue i cannot find anything helpful after hours of searching on google relating to this issue my card: geforce gt 545 oem 3gb (taken out of another pc that my friend gave to me) os: win 7 ultimate 64 bit cpu: xeon x3430 ram: 8gb ddr3 board: msi socket 1156 for xeon cpu i've twice installed latest drivers GeForce 285.62 Driver i've been into nvidia control panel and then setup multiple monitors & it only detects my other vga monitor not the hdmi one i'm using a brand new hdmi cable & can confirm i've connected it to the correct hdmi connector on my monitor, it has 2 hdmi ports and i've tried both when i go into device manager & display adapters there is only 1 adapter that says nvidia geforce gt 545, should there be another 1 for the hdmi? i'm out of options, i even work in i.t as a breakfix engineer coming across similar issues like this but i cannot deal with this & really need some help so i'm really hoping someone will help me out here i'm wondering if its anything to do with my other hardware such as the xeon cpu? (a longshot but i've only just built this pc & never built a xeon system before & would normally go for core i5 or core i7)

Answer:no hdmi output

Just to clarify, are you trying to use HDMI (small, flat d-shaped connector) or DVI (larger, oblong cream multi-pin)? I take it that you are using an adapter for your vga monitor - does that work on both DVI outputs? Device manager will only show one listing under graphics cards, it's under 'personalise/display' or in NVidia Control Panel that two will be displayed. You first need to check that the monitor works on another system - using the same cable of course."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." Pink Floyd

Try the thinkvantage presentation director. If theres no scheme that supports HDMI you can make one. Dont use any resolutions that your tv doesnt support becuase then it wont work. Good luck.

Answer:HDMI output

Can you use the keyboard fn key + another key (whichever one allows you to output the video to another screen)? If you don't know what I'm talking about, there is a keyboard combination which shows a screen that says computer only, duplicate, extend, or projector only. This allows you to direct the video, so you could have the screen show on both the computer and the tv, just the tv, just the computer, etc. It is the fn key + one of the f keys. Mine is f7, but yours probably isn't the same. Just try messing around with the fn key + one of the f keys to get the duplicate, extend, computer only, projector only screen.

Answer:HDMI output T-500

The porti is a DisplayPort., not the same as an HDMI port.  There is no HDMI port on the T500.  You need a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter.  Look on EBAY for one or I think you may bea ble to get one from Lenovo.  The port will give you video but no audio.

Hello. About a week ago my Western Digital 500gb external hard drive stopped being recognised by my PC. When I connect it up to the USB port the green light and everything comes on and it makes all the right sounds but the USB port just won't pick up that theres anything connected. I've tried other USB ports which won't pick it up either. I've tried other peripherals in the ports which work fine. My normal way of dealing with this would probably be to order a new hard drive except for the fact that this particular hard drive contains all my work projects which is typical! I've removed the hard drive from its casing and tried plugging it into my PC as an internal drive which resulted in my PC freezing and then me having to run the windows repair tool off the installation disk... I'm pretty sure I'm doing something wrong here and would just like some advice so I can put things right.

Many thanks,

Suddenly one day, after having just used it, the TV says "No synchronisation", and I can't get any picture on the TV again. I have tried: 1) Changing resolution (but i had it on the right resolution)2) Changed cable3) FN + F74) Put the laptop in a docking station and used the VGA output there without luck5) DVI output from dock however works !!??6) Reinstalled drivers My girlfriend has a T60 which has exactly the same problem. What could be the problem, i feel i have tried anything but i just cant figure out what the problem might be.

Hi,

Last night I was watching videos etc. as normal but woke up this morning and nothing...no sound. The picture is still there and great, just no sound to accompany it. Have been scrolling through tonnes of websites for advice etc. for the last 3 hours or so but nothing seems to be working.

I've checked the 'playback devices' but nothing is showing...even though the monitor has built in speakers. I've checked the sound cards for updates and they're fine also. All sound is up to maximum, I've even tried headphones and different plug in speakers but nothing. Used Dell detect tool thing but didn't find anything. The only thing the computers telling me is that the audio peripheral is not plugged in..?

Any thoughts??

The computer in question is a Alieanware x51, i5 processor.

Happy to add any more information if I've missed it.

My laptop crashed when removing the HDMI cable... totally dead... had to pull the battery to get it restarted. Now unfortunately the HDMI output is no longer recognizing the TV unless there is a second VGA monitor connected. Does this sound like a hardware issue?

Answer:HDMI output not working.

Sure sounds like it.

But first, go to Control Panel > Display > Change Display Settings > and click the Detect button with the HDMI connected to the TV.

I have been operating under the assumption that you should never "hot plug" HDMI connections. Turn off the laptop and TV, connect the cable, then turn them on.

Need a guru...
I have a newish notebook with i3 330UM and standard Intel HD graphics/video.. Has both VGA and HDMI ports.
doing testing, the HDMI port gets no ouput when the hot key is invoked.
Drivers are the latest the oem [dell] offers, there are no bangs or other issues I can find with Windows 7 x64.
There are no related warnings or errors in the event log

tried on two monitors proven good with my other notebooks - good HDTV/Monitors with known good HDMI cables set the exact same was as with the other working notebook.
The behaviour is that the system has some detection that the HDMI is there - I get a flash on the screen when plugging in and/or unplugging the cable, but cycling through the four options offered [onboard, shared, extended, projector-only] delivers nothing to the monitor. on one, my ASUS VH226, the screen displays "no signal HDMI".
no other signs/symptoms present.

Can someone explain who's in control of what: I am assuming that for all this to work, the chipset, the video drivers, the BIOS, the windows driver all have to have the device properly supported??? i'm hoping to find some way to isolate the offender.

I plan to give the recently published-by-Intel windows 8 driver a try just for thrills. not sure it will load

Ok, I wanted to get video and audio from my PC to my Samsung 46" TV. I bought an Nvidia 750 graphics board and installed it, and it worked for a couple of months. Although there were some screen freezes, they were very intermittent.  However, one day, while booting, the PC went into a loop, and I couldn't get by it. A computer tech I know, removed the Nvidia card, and told me it was not compatible with the PC's AMD Radeon R7 integrated graphics (AMD  A10-7800).He said I needed to get probably a Radeon R7 based card with the HDMI port to put in the PC. There it is.  Does anyone know which graphics card I can get to accomplish this? Thanks.

Hi, I recently bought a T.V. from a relative. First attempt to connect my laptop to it through HDMI, my laptop screen goes black and the T.V. reads "Not supported". I unplugged the HDMI, the laptop screen remained black and could only be fixed with a hard reboot.
No progress has been made, however I've started to pinpoint where the issue lies by testing some things out:

I have had my friend plug his laptop into the T.V, that worked fine, so the only possible issue with the T.V. is simply outdated compatibilities, yet a newer laptop should be able to display something that an older t.v. could recognize.
I have tried using win+p a few times to change the display mode before connecting the HDMI cable into the laptop.
I have tried my laptop on my friends monitor, it worked immediately without having to change any settings.
I believe the main issue is in the way my laptop is sending display info to the T.V, possibly the resolution or screen refresh rate? However, it is incredibly difficult for me to troubleshoot this without any help from someone with experience in this field as my screen goes entirely black as soon as I connect the HDMI cable.

I've done some googling, people seem to have similar problems but I've yet to find an answer that works for me.

Answer:HDMI output not supported?

Get a hold of your freind's laptop and check his display settings:Right click desktop > Screen Resolution : note his Resolution setting, then
Click Advanced Settings > Monitor Tab : note his Screen Refresh Rate & Colors

Now go into your laptop and see if you have the same settings.

Hello!

I have an Asus G73SW that I have been playing games with via the HDMI on my TV. It has worked fine for a while now. Today, it will not work.

It will give the Windows device sound when I plug in the cable (doo duu!) but the screen on my TV will not change. It remains "No Signal." I tested the HDMI port on the TV via my DVD player, and it's working correctly. I also replaced the cable thinking there might be some interruption, but nothing changed.

It went to:
''Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display\Screen Resolution''
and tried to "Detect" and it shows "1|2. Multiple Monitors" but still nothing on the TV.
I have not installed any updates or drivers etc. Maybe I pushed the wrong FN combo in my sleep? FN/F8 shows the "Laptop" on the first press, on second press, it shows "HDMI" and the laptop screen goes blank, but no signal goes through to the TV. Previous to today, when I plugged in the HDMI, it auto detected and I never had to cycle through FN/F8.

Edit: I installed the latest Nvidia Driver setup and there was no change. I also restarted with the HDMI plugged in, but it only displayed the same "No signal." Windows mobility center does recognize the Display as being connected.

Thanks!

Answer:HDMI output to the TV failing.

What's the input set TO on the TV itself?

Just checking.... if it's wrong you will be working on it helplessly forever.

The mobility app and the screen res screen ARE both showing the TV as active?

I would download your laptop manual and check out the FN keys, sounds likely.

How can I connect my X61s to my HD tv?  I have HDMI input ports on the TV but I don't know what I need to move my lap top to the TV screen.  Can you help?

Answer:x61s output to HDMI hcd TV

The x61s does not offer a digital video output.  If your TV has a VGA input (many LCD televisions do), you can use that.  If you only have HDMI/component, then you will need some kind of active converter (degrades quality and not cheap).

I've had my X1 Yoga for a little under a week, and now I've noticed that the HDMI port is not working. Tested with two monitors and a projector, the pc recognizes that a device is connected and windows can identify the device by name, but no output. Any idea what's wrong here? Latest display drivers are installed, and there is also no output on the monitor during boot as well.

Answer:X1 Yoga no HDMI output

Hello, I was also wondering about a not working HDMI port but at least in my case it had the following reason: When I use my OneLink+ Dockingport my HDMI Port doesn't work. Once I disconnect the Dockingport HDMI works. It seems that Lenovo intended to either use the Dockingport to attach the monitors or to use the HDMI port. That made me buy a Displayport-HDMI Adapter but for my case it was a good solution, since that way I don't have to always insert the HDMI cable when I'm at home. I hope this might help you Best Regards,Jonathan

Okay so, my computer recently crashed and had to reformat it.. lost everything

Everything was working just fine, until I had to reformat.

Now, I have no sound at all coming from my headphones and it says that the AMD HDMI Output is not plugged in.
I don't really know how to fix this..

Before reformatting, I was using these 2:

I only need to know if the HDMI port is output-only, or is it capable of input as well? If it is input-capable, does it require setup to use it in this mode? I'd like to transfer video from a tape in my HDMI-capable Sony Handycam directly into my computer for video editing. My computer is an HP Envy Notebook M7-N101DX, Model M1W07UA. Thank You.

Hi, It has HDMI out only. What is the model of your Sony ? Regards.

Hello,

I would like to know if it is possible to get this working:

I have an HP G60 Notebook with an Nvidia Geforce 8200 M running with Vista basic 32 bits.
I have an HDMI output plug, an HD TV (CRT monitor) with component and s-video inputs).
I got a cable with an HDMI plug on one end and component plugs at the other end.

When I plug my computer on the monitor via this cable, I get absolutely no reaction, not even in the peripheral panel.

I get a short slight sound on my TV though, but nothing is showing and no further sound is heard.

I try to expand my display to a second screen into Windows display panel, but it does not do anything.

I try to force TV detection in NVidia but the box that I should tick for that is grey and I cannot activate this.

My drivers are up to date and I have tried loging in as Administrator under Vista (after having activated the admin account in cmd). No improvement.

Is it just not possible or does anybody have any idea?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry if this is a long winded question.

When I use DVI output my monitor allows me to choose from certain presets like "game" or "movie" that effect brightness etc. There is a "Dynamic contrast" preset which gives by far the best colours, however it is no good for even mildly dark scenes. However if I use HDMI output I cannot choose them as the colours seem much better and choosing the preset is not necessary, it looks as good as DVI using "dynamic contrast" and works in dark scenes perfectly.

When using DVI, I am on my PC as it has no HDMI output. When using HDMI output I am using the PS3 which has no DVI output. In both cases I am using the same monitor.

Now to my question, if I buy a DVI to HDMI cable, will the output of my PC be the same as the output of my PS3? ie perfect colours/brightness from using HDMI?

Thanks

Answer:A question about DVI and HDMI output

The answer is probably. Your monitor probably isn't smart enough to be able to distinguish between a DVI to HDMI converter cable and a regular HDMI cable. But you simply will not know for sure until you try. For some reason your TV manufacturer decided that you would not be allowed to fine tune the picture while using DVI or maybe the DVI connector simply bypasses the "fine tuning" circuits.

I have a both a DVI and an HDMI output on my video card, but my monitor (32" JVC TV) only has HDMI inputs and I'm currently using a DVI to HDMI cable to run the video to the monitor. The TV allows me to make any adjustments using either a HDMI cable or a DVI to HDMI cable, but the video is brighter when using an HDMI cable.

So I'm using an M73 Mini Tower with 1 VGA and 1 Display Port output as a PC for a dashboard that's to display stats and different data refreshing in internet browser windows. Our IT department has purchased two VIZIO 50' TVs and we have the PC mounted behind the TVs which are also mounted on the wall. We have one of the TVs connected by using a DisplayPort to HDMI cable and it has an active video signal. Here's the problem. We're trying to get the other TV connected as a second monitor through the TV's HDMI input, but the TV doesn't recognize the PC output. We've tried using a VGA cable with a StarTech.com HD2VGAMICRO converter. We've also tried a VGA to RGB converter cable which also failed miserably. Any suggestions?

Answer:M73 Tower - Output to 2 HDMI TVs

You've got that Startech adapter backwards.  It is FROM HDMI TO VGA, not the other way around.

You can't feed an HDMI display device from VGA onboard.  Your easiest solution is just to install a discrete graphics card (which I'm guessing you don't have in your M73).  Something low-power like this Sapphire AMD low-profile R7-250 is modestly priced, and comes with both low-profile and full-size brackets.

Since you have a mid-tower case, your options go beyond this suggestion, but you have to stick with a low-power card.  Somewhat more expensive is the Gigabyte GTX 750ti OC card, again with low-profile or full-size bracket.  Better performance specs than the AMD card, but you may not need its performance.

Finally, there is the low-power EVGA GTX 750ti SC card, which is full-size but shorter.  Best performance, but again a bit more money.

I don't know anything about the inside of the M73, but the description talks about "half-length full-size PCIe x16" expansion slot.  I don't know what "half-length" might imply, but the full-size EVGA card is actually the "shortest" of the three so it is actually the most likely to fit in your case.  The first two are low-profile height cards and are thus longer but less high.  All three are under 60W power and should work fine with the PSU of the M73.

All three of these cards have multiple digital connectors (HDMI, DP, and DVI) and no VGA connector.  The AMD ca... Read more

I connected an HDMI cable from my lap top to my Onkyo recever to play my digital music through my home theater speakers. When I accidentally closed my laptop while playing the music, everything stopped working so I opened the laptop and the music resumed but the screen remained blank (dark). Now everytime I connect an HDMI cable to the laptop, the screen goes completely dark and comes back as soon as I unplug the HDMI cable.Whatever I am running on the laptaop (music or programs), continues running, I just don't see anything on the screen until I unplug the HDMI cable.I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 running Windows Vista home premium with an Intel Pentium dual T2390 @ 1.86 GH, a Sigmatel high definition audio codec sound card. a 220 GB hard drive with 136 GB free and 3 GB RAM.Is there a solution somewhere to this problem? Please advice.

Question: HDMI Sound Output

Hello Forum, I bought a new laptop 3 days ago. It's a thinkpad E470 (the 20H2 Type). (I3-7100, Intel HD Graphics 620, Conexant Audio)It came without an OS so I installed windows 10 (Pro) and it all runs perfectly. Now to the problem: I can connect a TV via HDMI and the picture works fine. What doesn't work is the HDMI Sound output.Normally in the "playback devices" list there should be an "Intel display audio" entry which should be active when connected to a HDMI output. For me that entry is missing. (And yes I did check for disabled or disconnected devices) I installed the Intel driver from the Lenovo support page for the laptop and I can't use newer ones from Intel because of the Lenovo validation. I did fully uninstall the driver and reinstalled them. If you need any more information just tell me.

Hello, I recently bought a Sapphire hd4890 and was briefly able to use the card's built in audio function via an hdmi cable to my television. I stopped for roughly a week and when I next tried to use the sound again, it didn't work. Within that period of time, I installed some Realtek drivers for my audio so I could have that cool function where when a new device is plugged in, it is detected and a menu comes up. This shouldn't pose any problem with my previous setup explained though, should it? When I right click the volume function in the Quick Launch area, and go to "Playback Devices", I am able to see my ATI High Definition Audio Device (with a picture of my television) but it says below, that it is not plugged in (im running windows 7 if that offers any help). Thanks to anyone who can lend a helpful tip in my strange predicament.

I have Windows 10 64-bit  (not suported I know )  but also Windows 7 64-bit (different partitions). Just obtained secondhand GNR TS702 monitor https://www.manualslib.com/manual/271588/Gnr-Ts702.html . It is plug and play no drivers. First question then is what graphics drivers should I have ? There are three listed at http://support.hp.com/gb-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-g6-1300-notebook-pc-series/5186808/model... AMD High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver     9.0.0.0    299.2 MB    Oct 18, 2012     AMD High-Definition Graphics Driver     8.882.2.0 Rev.    339.0 MB    Oct 24, 2011    and Intel High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver. Does this depend on the processor ? It is Intel B960. Second question, should I expect system audio to come out of the HDMI  port and work with the speakers on the monitor?  Windows Sound sees an HDMI playback device but nothing connected to it, even when a DVD-VI cable from the monitor is connected to that port. Do I need and special drivers for HDMI audio, if I happen not to have a monitor that supports it, or is that HDMI port video only? Thanks  a lot.

I have a ThinkPad Edge E520. I just purchased an HDMI cable and want to display a presentation on a TV. The laptop is not recognizing the TV as an output destination. I have tried a different cable, same problem. I tried plugging a different laptop into the TV with the HDMI cable and it did work. With those variables resolved, it appears the problem is strictly with the ThinkPad. I have adjusted as many settings as posisble under the "screen resolution" interface but it still doesn't work. Hey

So I wanted to connect my LG tv to my laptop today, and when I plug the HDMI and duplicate the screens, I can only hear the sound thru the TV, the image is blank(screen says No Signal), I've tried restarting computer with the HDMI cable and it shows the Starting Windows loading screen on the TV before you reach the login screen, but when you reach the login, the screen just becomes blank..
I have already connected it to the TV before and it worked fine, there wasn't any hardware changes and the cable is fine because I just tested it with my Blu-Ray Reader.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance
Quetzalma

Answer:Problems with HDMI Output

Please fill out your specs. Your manual is your best place to see how the LG is hooked up to a PC, not all of them use the HDMI for this most use a DVI or VGA connection, HDMI is, as you have just confirmed, used for audio if no other source is used. I have had no issues using a DVI-VGA connection to my 37" Vizio.

I am running a Windows 7 computer with a ATI Radeon 6870 1GB graphics card. I am normaly use the DVI and speaker sound output, but when I am watching movies or playing games I like to use my HDMI output to my television.

The problem is that every time I want to hear the sound on my TV through the HDMI output, I need go into my sound settings and select my HDMI out as the defult sound output to hear the sound through HDMI on my TV.

Is there anyway for me to have my computer automatically switch to HDMI sound output when it detects the HDMI video output? This problem i am facing when i upgraded the driver from 12.3 version to the latest one and its really strange that i am facing this issue with new drivers

This used to work for me automatically when i use old version i.e. 12.3 drivers, but now i have to manually set it to default every time i change the output. Please help me out here appreciate it.

Thanks to all

Answer:Ati readon HDMI output ?

Normal Windows operation is to switch the default audio playback device from the Speakers to the HDMI whenever a cable is plugged into the HDMI port on a video card.

Are you leaving the HDMI cable plugged in all the time? Maybe that is the reason.

Otherwise, go to the Device Manager, Sound section and RIGHT click on the entry for the HDMI audio. Then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT check the box to also uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the HDMI sound. If there were some type of Windows corruption with the HDMI sound, this will fix it.
