Question: Dell INSPIRON 17 5000 series keeps dropping internet even on Ethernet

Had a service center look at the issue and download new drivers, removed the spyware we were using (WEBROOT) and installed AVAST! - speeds (When it achieves connectivity) will not go above 60mbps - even in higher speed environments (at the service center they had closer to 200) WIFI is even slower @ 30 Mbps. Tech thinks it's a $500 doorstop. Opines???

I have a Dell Inspiron 15, 5000 series, that came with Windows 8.1 on it. I upgraded to Windows 10 and the ethernet connection started dropping out, giving messages that the cable is not connected, when it is. I had installed all the driver updates from Dell's site, including all the firmware and BIOS updates. According to the Dell site, the laptop has supposedly been tested to function with Windows 10.
I have disabled the card, then renabled it, but still no success. I have tried rolling back to Windows 8.1 and the ethernet connection functions just fine. I tried upgrading to Windows 10 again, but the ethernet connection does not function even after reinstalling all the drivers from Dell. Is there any way to find out if this model is just not capable of upgrading in spite of Dell's statement that it is?

Hi - I am new to this site and really appreciate any help I can get. I purchased this computer in October 2015 brand new- starting using it in January of 2016 - I cannot seem to set up the computer as a new computer (if that makes sense) - I have used a computer for many years personal and business. I am trying to use a go to meeting site that allows me to get there but in the middle of the meeting - it continually says internet explorer had stopped working and kicks me out time after time - I feel it is something to do with the hardware but not sure - If someone is willing to just walk me thur the basic set up of a new computer or has an idea why this message is constantly popping up - I would really appreciate it- thanks so much!

So Dell made a really terrible decision.  They have a transparent strip in the power button for an LED light to indicate if the power is on.  A power indicator is a given in any laptop, no matter how cheap it is.  However, Dell in all of it's genius decided to not include an LED bulb on laptops up to the Inspiron 7000 Series, despite leaving a transparent slot for it.  Seriously, what happened to this brand?!?  Do children make these laptops now?
I want to fix this, as my laptop is no longer returnable and a power indicator is absolutely necessary.  So the only thing I can think of is replacing it with one from the 7000 Series somehow (with some help probably).
This is a Dell Inspiron 5559.  I also have an Inspiron 5547.  Not sure which exact 7000 model I should get the part for...
Are they compatible?
Is there an easier way? Like how Fn+H turns on the hard drive indicator?

The systems use different case and mainboard designs -- and may even be made by different companies.  The answer in all likelihood is no.
I don't think Apple has produced a Macbook with a power indicator -- the PC vendors are playing follow Apple.

Still trying to get help to fix wifi that disconnects repeatedly for no reason.
I have a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series, with intel core i3
Runs Windows 10 which came installed on laptop.
I read that a lot of people have this problem. Seems stupid that one of the most important parts of the computer, the wifi driver, is where Dell skimped on when making this laptop.

Been getting a dell update notification for the last week or two and after I finally clicked on update my laptop is now very laggy. If i try to play video I get choppy sound and video. When i look at the task manager there isnt anything hogging the Cpu, HD, or memory.

I used to have a lot of problems with the touchpad intermittently freezing; it then worked well for a while but is now misbehaving oddly.
 
The right and left buttons on the touchpad work normally, but instead of moving the cursor, trying to use the main part of the touchpad scrolls the screen up and down instead.  A USB mouse connected works normally.
 
It started yesterday.  Only thing I did was run AdwCleaner and delete a registry key it found (I think I had downloaded adware on mistake so I was cleaning it).  It started this behavior a little while later.
 
ScrollLock doesn't seem to be on and I have tried disabling and re-enabling the touchpad.

What is the exact system model?
Did the BIOS flash successfully before you encountered the boot issue? 
Reset BIOS defaults and check if it works.
Try the BIOS recovery

If the system recovers and boots to Windows, then check if the touchscreen is functioning. Check if it shows up in device manager under Human Interface Devices.
Check and update the firmware if available on the support site.

So I spilled some water on the keyboard. I tried to take it away using a cloth and then put it upside down. I then had a hot lamp over it so that it would dry. (Opening the back cover was out of the question since I had no way to remove the nails.) After an hour I tried to open it. It did open and worked ok. The only problem was that yhere would be pop up messages about the usb no functioning properly or the headphones I just connected when I had nothing on the usb and no headphones. The morning after however the laptop after being powered on would display: Error code 0xc0000428 your pc has to be repaired. The digital signature for this file could not be verified. Contact your PC administrator or PC manufactorer if you dont have the repair tools.
I bought this in Greece a month ago but I am now a student in Edinburgh and I desperately need some help on what to do since this laptop is vital for my course and I cannot afford a new one at the moment.

I just got a new Inspiron 15 5000 series model P39F a couple days ago for work.
What is happening is periodically while I am on the laptop the screen glitches/blinks black then all is fine until it does it again. There is no pattern and it just happens every once in a while. Not sure if I need to adjust a setting or if this is a display/screen defect.
Anybody else have this happen to them?

I have the Dell Inspiron that came before the new models and have made modifications to this laptop that I would like to carry out on the new 5000 series 17inch one if I choose to buy.  On my current laptop I have added an mSata SSD that has improved the computer without removing any of the other devices.  I need to know if I can do the same to the new one without removing the DVD drive or swapping the HDD.  So far I have asked this question when trying to buy the new one via the email link but they were unable to answer me.  Can anyone who has the new laptop or anyone from Dell please help.

We'd need to know the exact model number (i.e., Inspiron 5321, etc.) for both models.  Within a series, specifications vary - and if the older system is truly mSATA, then the drive WILL NOT work with a newer system (which use the similar sounding, but totally incompatible M.2 SATA or M.2 PCIe format).

I just bought a Dell Inspiron 13 5000 Series (Reg Model: P68G001), and the cursor is always jumping to one corner of the screen or another (most frequently to the lower left corner, activating the start button with the cursor in the Cortana box) -AND- also simultaneously minimizes the browser window in the process. I've read some other jumping cursor threads, and tried the Control Panel / Mouse / Pointer Options / & unchecked/applied/ok'd the Enhance Pointer Position, and it's still suffering from jumping cursor. Help? 
I've read elsewhere about updating bios and restarting and updating firmware and restarting, etc, but not those were posts about other Dell machines. How/where do I go to make sure that the latest are on this machine?
PS. I had to send my first purchase of the Dell back to Costco, due to faulty/unusable touchpad... and now this one is having issues as well (though at least I can operate the touchpad to some degree)... seems to be a significant problem on Dell machines, based on jumping cursor posts... c'mon Dell - fix this issue.... giving your brand a bad image.

So I got a microphone the other day, it wasn't working on my laptop, so I decided to download the Dell audio driver to make sure I hadn't missed an update or anything. It didn't make the microphone work (it was a cheap *** mic anyway), I wasn't super surprised by that. What DID surprise me was after downloading Dell's driver, from Dell's own site, the audio coming from my speakers was cut by about 2/3rds. So now playing any audio has to be done at 80 - 100% volume rather than 20 - 30% like before. Is there any way I can fix this? After all, it only happened AFTER using Dell's provided software.

This laptop had click sound going on when closing and opening lid. It had this from day one and i assumed it is new laptop and will get fine after few uses. As i used this laptop rarely i did not mind this issue until recently i opened the lid and heard click and found right side corner hinge pop out. Now my laptop is unusable and needs the replacement. I used this laptop with care and am sure this was manufacturing defect. This needs to be replaced for free.
I tried to reach DELL support few times but was put on wait for hours and had to give UP. Now when i call them they say your warranty is expired and you have to pay for this replacement.
I don't buy this . THIS IS MANUFACTURING DEFECT. 100's of users experienced the same. DELL has to OWN responsibility and fix it . This makes CUSTOMERS DAY.
This breaks customer trust on DELL. I see this is getting more and more into Fabric of DELL. So many customers are complaining about DELL 
Please help and fix issues that is your liability and do not penalize customers

I just bought Dell inspiron 15 5000 series November 6 and it doing nicely until last week because I think I'm just using it for watching movies and surfing the web and last week I install games like shadow of mordor, splinter cell, resident evil revelations 2 and  It works fine and after that I install steam dota 2, one piece pirate warriors and saints row IV and those three most of the time it freezes my screen, make the sound of tztztztztztz (I thought its broken when its like that) and keyboard wont work when the screen is froze or making the sound tztztztztztz. And when I restart it, it takes so long to boot not unlike when I first buy it, only few seconds and I'm in the desktop already.
Does this laptop have problems playing those games? I mean this laptop have 8gb ram and 4gb graphics card,my graphics card are updated and I'm using windows 10. Does this laptop have internal problems of some sort or what?

Hello I just purchased this pc and when I read the manual it talked about a backlight keyboard but when I pressed the button it wouldn't turn on could anyone help me with this I even called and checked with windows 10 but they were really not any help. They were as lost as I am could anyone tell me if my computer has a backlight keyboard and if so how do I cut  it on

I just purchased this labtop and was running fine until after about a week the computer needed to update Bios. I closed all running programs and allowed for the computer to update. When I came back to check on my computer it would say no boot device found press any key to restart. I would do this repeatedly to no avail. I ran ePSA diagnostics and it said everything was working with the computer. Please help!!!

Hi! my Dell Inspiron 14 5000 series wont turn on. The power light turns on when connected to the power supply. I tried to disconnect the charger, removed the battery and held the power button for 30 seconds. After reconnecting the charger and battery, i tried to turn it on again, but the power light only lasted for 5 seconds and there's no beeping sound. My laptop still wont turn on. What could I possibly do? What could possibly be the problem? My laptop is already out of warranty, how much would it cost if repaired?

What is the exact system model? 
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system? Could you test with another power adapter if possible?
Does the adapter led stay on and stable or does it go off when connected to the system?
Please check if there is any damage on the machine. Check if all the ports on the machine are fine or misaligned. Sometimes if the pins in the USB ports are touching each other, they are known to cause many issues on the machine.
The power light you are referring to that lasts for 5 seconds only - is that the power button led on the system?

Hi!I have a brand new (like 2 month old) Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series and I've noticed a problem with it. If i turn on the laptop and it's not plugged in, it runs just fine. However, when it's already on and I plug it in to the power, the screen goes to black and after a few seconds it goes to sleep. After, I turn it on again and it works just fine. However, this issue has happened a couple of times before and I don't know what to do to stop it. HELP

When I tried to install Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit via live cd "The dell recovery media can be used to  restore the original factory software. It is recommended you backup all important data before Running this tool"

So I ran into the old plugged in, not charging problem with my laptop about a month back. I hoped it was the charger, but upon getting a replacement 65-watt charger, the problem persisted. I assumed the fiddly bits on the inside of the laptop had given up the ghost, as I've had that issue before, but when a friend plugged in his 90-watt dell charger it worked like a charm. I'd rather not have to go buy a new 90-watt charger, but I will if I have to.
Also, I suppose I should mention that I'm using a 5759 with no modifications. Also, I used to get an error message every time I plugged in a 65-watt charger though it doesn't show up anymore for whatever reason and I can't remember exactly what it said. Something about it not being recognized or somesuch. Same error message with 3 different 65-watt chargers.

I have been trying to play Neverwinter NIghts on my laptop for a few days now and every time I launch the game, I get  notification that the resolution is not optimal and then I get a message saying "the game has stopped" I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game twice with no sign of a fix. I called dell and they said there were corrupt files but that I had to pay them $250+ for the software warranty. I have been playing this game for months and it has never been a problem until now. Games are usually slow but they never crash this badly. Does anyone know what I can do or do I just have to pay out a bunch of money? Also there are problems with the headphones jack sometimes not playing audio through headphones, but through the regular speakers, any fix to that? I'm not happy that it has so many problems already (its only like 8 months old). Thanks!

So I'm using a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series which has only one audio socket, while my headset has two plugs. The thing is if I plug the headset in and use it without pressing OK on this pop up dialog, I can use the microphone, but not the headphones. On the other hand, if I press OK, the headphones will work but the microphone won't. What's the problem here?

Good Morning all:
I have a brand new Dell 5378..I have only plugged it in, done the registration and done the 2 downloads waiting. Then I get the APPLICATION ERROR: EXPLORER.EXE.  tHE EXCEPTION UNKNOWN SOFTWARE AT THE LOCATION 0X00007ff92467e5ec.  I've been my own tech for 25 years in my own business but i am afraid to keep this computer! Should I return it or do i need to do something to fix it on my own.  I can't believe it! Thanks for any help.  I have not put any software on it since i got it yesterday.  Is it explorer?  Should I use Chrome will that eliminate the situation?  HELP! thank you

This may not be your situation but I got a new Inspiron 17 and it Blue Screened three times in the first hour.  The dump file pointed to the Product Registration software from Dell.
I would give it some time to see if it settles down...  Mine has had no further problems since that initial situation.

Hello, I just changed my laptop that i used for 6 years to Dell Inspiron 15 5667. At first my audio isnt working and i sent it back to the company that i bought it from and they fixed that for me. But now, after around one month, while i travel to another country for my studies, my laptop sometimes freezes or i dont know what do u call it, the screen freezes at that moment and the mouse, keyboard is not responding too. Is the exact system model Inspiron 5567? What is the current OS version installed on the system?
Are there any bluescreens / system crashes? Do you need to manually restart the system every time the system freezes? What applications are you using when the system freezes? When you power on the system from a cold boot, how long does it take for it to freeze?
Update the BIOS - http://dell.to/1n3X2po - enter the service tag and download the BIOS, update and restart the machine and check.
Restart the system and check in safe mode - http://bit.ly/1LHcO2c 
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional. Also, run an extended / thorough tests on the HDD and memory to check for any possible errors.

I bought this PC last year but I've never really tried to fix this problem, so today I begin to search anything usefull in order fo adjust this but found nothing. When I listen to music without headphones or with bluetooth speakers it sounds normally, but when I plug the 3.5 mm jack into the PC, the music sounds almost without bass. As a Dell pc I'm using Realtek Audio and Waves Maxxsense. I've already tried to update the driver, restar the computer and turn off maxxsense audio but nothing changed...

Have you tried setting the enhancements to have more base an then saving those preferences?  If you do that, every time you select that device, it will use those preferences.

Just started to use my new laptop Dell Inspiron 15 5000 laptop. I realized that something is wrong with the headset port. I have tried to use my earphones and then headphones which the laptop not able to recognized a headset device connected to it. The music sound was still coming out from the laptop speaker and did not switch to the earphones / headphones. (Note: I plugged in them properly.)

I'll be playing some sort of media (eg: youtube video) and the volume will be just fine. Then, over a period of 10-20 seconds it will slowly fade out until you can't hear it. I'll need to close the media and reopen it to fix this problem. I have not experienced this when using headphones. 
I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers and that did not help.

I have just bought this Dell laptop and is having issues while connect the screen to my LG TV - the first day it works all fine, then after the TV screen start to blink (screen on for say 10 seconds and then black out/blink 1 or 2 times) - I have tried switching to another HDMI cable and still having issues - what is the problem??

What is the exact system model? Does this occur with or without the adapter connected? Is the issue seen on both duplicate and extended mode?
Update the BIOS - http://dell.to/1n3X2po - enter the service tag and download the BIOS, update and restart the machine and check. Also, reinstall the video drivers from the support site.
If the issue persists, then reinstall the video drivers from the vendor site and check.

my laptop battery light is flashing orange. I'm running Windows10.
I checked the battery health meter and the battery is 100% charged and the meter indicates that it is functioning normally. The laptop is only a few months old.

I saw another post that suggested rebooting the laptop with the cable unplugged. I'going to try that next.

I purchase this Dell Inspiron 15 5000 Series 15.6 Inch Laptop last December and it was great to allow me to interchange the use of touch screen and keyboard with mouse. Suddenly a couple weeks ago, the keyboard and mouse were not recognized by the system when I turned on the laptop. I got the touch screen working but I need to use keyboard and mouse most. So i just bought this thing yesterday from office depot. what is happening is if i rest my forearms on the case of the laptop it will left click on the touch pad. which is very annoying since it always makes me start typing where ever my cursor is at that time. I tried already removing the battery and press the power button. Then connect the plug. Start the computer. Nothing happened.

What is the exact system model? 
Each model would have a specific capacity charger optimized for it. Not all chargers could fit into the another system. And even if does fit, although it might power on the machine, it might not charge the battery if the adapter wattage is different than what the system model is designed to handle. 
The Inspiron 3521 supports two different adapter wattage - 65W and 90W. If the other system in concern supports either of this wattage and has the same type of pin, then you most certainly can use it for the time required.

I have had this laptop since December 27th 2016.  I use it for school and that is all.  Within the last few days it has been turning to a black screen abut 30 seconds after I plug in the power cord.  When I undo the cord from the computer, the screen comes back.  I left it plugged in to charge last night but when I came to get on it this morning it was only at 50%.
Anyone knw what is wrong?

What is the exact system model? 
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system? Could you test with another power adapter if possible?
If you have a dock connected, disconnect the dock and check.
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point. Check the battery health in BIOS (if applicable).
Disconnect the adapter and battery and press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to release any static power. Then test the system with the adapter only / battery only.
Update the BIOS - http://dell.to/1n3X2po - enter the service tag and download the BIOS, update and restart the machine and check.
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.

I have an Inspiron 15 5000 series laptop. It does not show any sign of startup. I do not see any light including the power light on the power button when I press it. There is a green light on the power adapter which confirms the power gets to the laptop. I tried removing the battery and removing the power cable and then holding the power button for a minute and later fixed the battery and the power and tried turning on... It plays dead. Any idea how to get this going?

You've pretty much ruled out every possibility except that the mainboard is bad.  If you're under warranty, contact Dell -- if not, brace yourself for what will likely be several hundred dollars to have the mainboard (along with the CPU, of which it's a part) replaced.

 I bought the Inspiron laptop online in October 2014. At the beginning of this year we noticed that sometime the "right hinge" started to give a cracking sound. We didn't pay attention to this problem, but it got worse and now there is a space between the cover and the laptop itself. We are not closing the cover anymore. I went online and discovered that this is an ongoing problem with this laptop. We would like it fixed. Can anybody advise us what route to take to get it repaired? Without going through BBB? So I've tried to press the power button, obviouslly, but the laptop won't turn on. Not a single beep or flicker fron the power light occurs. It's like the laptop's dead. But when I connect the AC charger the light indicating that the laptop is charging is on....
Last thing I did: The laptop warned me that I have a low battery but I kept working... so ecentually it turned off automattically. I tried to turn it on again... without charging the battery... then it turned on, then of again... thereafter when i got home, I charged the laptop but when I press the power button... it doesn't start... can somebody help mee

Are you using the original charger? -if the battery is totally empty and if you're using a wrong charger it might give problems.
Also have you tried a "hard reset"? -This goes as follows: remove battery, charger, USB's etc; remove everything you can (except parts inside the laptop) and then keep the powerbutton pressed for 30 seconds. Then put the battery (and charger) back in and try to boot again.

While there are versions of this model shipping with quad core CPUs, some considerations:
The CPU is soldered to the system board, so the entire mainboard must be replaced to upgrade.  This has two ramifications:
1.  It's expensive - think upward of 50% of the initial cost of the system, and
2.  It voids any warranty remaining on the system.
With anything but the very highest-end notebooks these days, the CPU isn't upgradeable -- except for a very few remaining high-end workstations and gaming notebooks, socketed CPUs that can be upgraded are a thing of the past.

Shut down my computer last night. It was nearing low battery power, but wasn't dead 5% or so.

Woke up this morning. Plugged it into the charger, and it won't turn on. The white LED at the front of the computer is on fine though.

Tried with just the battery, no light no power.

With just the cord, also no light, no power.

Light only comes on when both are in, but still no power or any signs of life other than that little light.

Is the issue with the battery or the cord and how do I find out which?

What is the exact system model?
Does the system overheat? Is there any damage / liquid spillage on the system?
When you press the power button, does the power led come on and stay on or does it go off after a few seconds? 
When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed?
Please check if there is any damage on the machine. Check if all the ports on the machine are fine or misaligned. Sometimes if the pins in the USB ports are touching each other, they are known to cause many issues on the machine.
Disconnect the adapter and battery and press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to release any static power. Then test the system with the adapter only / battery only.
Press and hold the fn key + power button to turn on the system and it should initiate the diagnostics - check for any possible beep codes.
Run the LCD bist - Turn off the system and press and hold the "D" key + power button to turn on the system and it should run the LCD built in self test - see this link for more info - http://dell.to/1SkXNrG
Enter the service tag and download the service manual and open the chassis - remove the HDD / memory modules and check if the system powers on and detects the absence of memory indicated by beeps.
If nothing works, I would suspect a motherboard fault and it needs to be replaced.

When I first turn it on I get 3 loud beeps in a row over and over. This stops when home screen comes up. When i go online on crome-5 soft beeps over and over. Nothing came up in diagnostic and I have removed battery.It's weird but the only time it stopped-on Facebook and clicked on Disclosetv which came up in new window. No beeping. So I closed facebook window and went from disclose back to facebook. Beeping started. Beeps on every link I open.

I just purchased a new laptop - I didn't think to determine whether or not there was a CD/DVD drive on the computer.  I assumed this was a given.  Now I don't know how to install 2-year old software that is on CDs.  I can download it but have to pay for it again!  Does anyone have any suggestions?

You'll need to buy a USB DVD/CD drive - they're about $30-50.  Very few systems come with internal optical drives now -- they're doing a fast fade into history.
The other alternative if you have another system with an optical drive is to copy the software to a flash drive, and then install it from there.

I have an Inspiron 5378 on the way, and my understanding is that it has two DDR4 slots.  Dell advertising suggests this machine can only use 16GB.  But around the web, I have seen folks suggesting that some of the earlier versions of this 2-in-1 could indeed take 32GB as 2x16GB sticks.  The CPU in this machine (Core i7-7500U) supposedly supports 32GB so I am wondering if anybody has actually tried 32GB to confirm that it works.  Thanks for any comments!

I bought an Inspiron 5000 series laptop last October and from the beginning we noticed the power adapter fit rather loosely when plugged into the DC power port on the laptop itself. Gradually this got even looser and within the last couple of months it won’t stay plugged in unless the plug is physically supported by something or the laptop is just not touched at all.
When I purchased the laptop I also bought 2 years of on-site service because my wife uses the laptop to run her small business.
I just got off the phone with technical support and initially all they would do is transfer me to the out-of-warranty service group claiming that this was a wear & tear issue and not something that would fall under warranty. After talking with a supervisor, he was unwilling to dispatch a serviceman but would allow me to return the laptop to a depot for further investigation. However, the impression I got from him is that the depot would likely just call this a wear & tear issue and charge me for the repair anyway.
I am a bit frustrated because this seems to be a pretty clear case of a bad DC port and I can’t see why my onsite service shouldn’t cover this.
Any thoughts or recommendations on how I can proceed with this?

I spilled a little bit of water on my laptop's touchpad. I cleaned off all the surface water, but the touchpad was still malfunctioning an very erratic, and I could not successfully click the necessary string of buttons to shut down my laptop, so I just held the button in the top right corner of the keyboard until it powered off. I turned it back on and it is now working fine, but was a bit slow during the initial startup, login, and desktop display. I have not opened up the bottom of the laptop to check for any internal water or water damage because I do not trust myself with such an important process. Should I have it professionally checked out, or should I be able to conquer this problem (which may or may not actually be a problem; the keyboard, touchpad, monitor, audio, and all ports are working perfectly fine) with a couple of YouTube tutorials? Also, am I just being paranoid, or could I potentially have a real problem?

Pretty much in the title. Randomly, I'll move my finger across the touchpad but it doesn't register. Then I have to kind of move my finger *very* lightly and it will register and move again. Laptop isn't six months old yet so this is hella-annoying (yes I know it's under warranty, but I don't want to ship it away for two weeks if possible!)
I've read that uninstalling then reinstalling both the touchpad driver and the touchpad program itself, but I'm not technically gifted so I'd rather not chance making things worse.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I attached a powered 6 port USB Hub to my Inspiron 5000 series laptop. The laptop will not boot up with the Hub connected, I must wait until after boot up is complete to connect the Hub. Is there a special USB Hub needed so that it can be connected at all times including boot up?

this is a new laptop, the problem is that it wont turn on with the battery ( the battery has been charged), it will just turn on if i remove the battery and plug the charger in. I have searched for solution on the internet, i did try one, i removed the battery and charger, the pressed the power button 30s and then put back the battery and charger, and it turn on. I thinked this solution would fix the problem but it didnt.

Hi, this may seem like a stupid question, but I recently got the entry level Inspiron 13, 5000 series (i3, 4gb Ram). I want to upgrade the memory as it's a bit sluggish. Dell's site said this model only has one Ram slot. I've been told it actually has two. I'm a clumsy oaf and don't want to open the case unnecessarily (and break those awkward little clicky 'lips'). Can anyone tell me if there is one slot or two?

I ask because, if there is just the one, I'll go for 16, if it's two, I'll go for an 8 to make a total of 12.

Adding memory to a laptop will work better if you match the ram. If it has 2 slots replace both or match the one it has.

Wondering if anyone has solution to this issue. I keep getting Touchpad Notification "Your touchpad has been disabled" and then a few moments later another notification "Your touchpad has been enabled".
Anyone know what could be causing this? and how to fix it.

Two months ago I bought an HP laptop. I used it for two weeks when the computer froze while I was on the Internet. I couldn't close the browser, minimize the browser, call up the Task Manager, or do anything with the computer. I had to shut it off with the on/off button. When I tried to turn on the computer, it froze at the startup screen, with the spinning dots and the HP logo. It would not load up at all.
It wound up that I had to recover the computer and return it to factory default. It took three hours to do. Mind you, this was a brand new computer.
I returned that computer and bought a Dell Inspiron 5000 series laptop. The computer was working well for three weeks when the exact same thing that happened to the HP laptop happened to my new Dell laptop. I again had to recover a brand new computer and return it to factory default and start all over setting up the Dell.
The HP had an Intel processor and the Dell has an AMD. Basically, the hardware in each laptop is different, so I cannot blame this coincidence on the hardware. I ran a diagnostic hardware check on each computer and both had passed that test. I can only guess that there is something wrong with the updated Windows 10 operating system that causes these new computers to essentially crash and have to be recovered and returned to factory default.

So I'm having problems keeping ITunes open for longer the 60 seconds on my Laptop.

The error message I'm getting is a compatibility issue. I've tried manually changing the operating settings and finished with just admin as was recommended. I've had n o luck.
My older Ipod nanos open on the interface and I'm briefly able to add and remove songs before closing but my Ipod touch isn't even recognized when ITunes is opened. It does show the music on the device ect but I can't delete or add any music.

Anybody had an issue similar to this before?

You did not say which exact model of either device you have nor the version of the IOS aka version 6, 7, 8,  9,  10.  Nor did you say what model of Dell or USB2 or USB3 etc.
Older IPOD IPAD IPHONE DO not support IOS 8 9 or 10.
Not being able to delete or add music can be any one of 15 different problems associated with the version of windows,  version of IPOD IPAD IPHONE, and version of ITUNES Software.
ALL of these things IOS/ IPHONE/IPAD/IPOD are NOT Dell product and not supported on the DELL forum.

I have a Dell Inspiron 17 5000 Series that was purchased with Windows 8 and upgraded to Windows 10 earlier this year.  Recently, the PC has had problems booting into Windows.  What I mean is that when I turn the PC on I’d see the Dell screen and when you expect to see the Windows Start Screen the monitor would be blank with no signs of activity and no mouse pointer.  I thought that maybe Windows might be corrupted so I began a reinstall without deleting my personal files. 
 Everything was going fine until at some point during the installation the PC reverted to the same state it did when it would not boot Windows.  Just a blank screen no sign of activity and no mouse pointer.  Any ideas on what might be the problem?
UPDATE:
Ok, I used an HDMI cable and hooked the PC up to my TV.  All of a sudden the PC monitor came on but its a distorted mess however, I was able to make out the login screen.  As soon as I unplugged the HDMI cable the screen went blank again.

Hello, 

I have a Dell Inspiron I5 / 5000 series which would not start on pressing the power button. I called Dell while it was still under warranty (it is out of warranty now), and they advised to simply remove the battery, and reinsert it. The laptop started fine after this tweak. However, it has done the same now on two more occasions, and worked after doing exactly the same each time.
This is now turning out to be a botheration. Would someone advise on a permanent fix?

Since today I get the failure: "Internal hard disk drive not found".In BIOS, it is OK and in PSA all is OK.Further, I can not boot from Windows CD, getting the same "Internal hard disk drive not found" error.HDD is OKWhat is wrong??

Answer:Inspiron 5000 Series does not boot anymore

Does the system setup (F2 at powerup) see the hard drive at all?
If it does not, chances are the drive has failed.  If the system is under warranty, run the Dell diagnostics, record the resultant error and report it to Dell - they'll replace the drive.
If the system is out of warranty, post the model (Inspiron 5521, 5559, etc.) and someone can recommend a replacement.

I've had my Inspiron all-in-one for less than a year.  Both USB ports have broken where the blue plastic piece has come out.  The first one fried my external harddrive and I lost thousands of pictures.  
I've been told this isn't under warranty as it was an accidental mishap that I caused.  Clearly, since both have broken, it's some sort of hardware issue.  
Has anyone else had this happen?  I'm told my only option is to pay $265 for replace it.  Are there any other options?  External USB drive?  I can't get anyone to talk to me other than saying I owe $265.

I got my Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series a week ago, and despite things working perfectly in the beggining, my touchpad stopped scrolling (2-finger gesture).
The only think it does is move the cursor.
According to the sticker on my laptop I have a precision touchpad, but I see no "You have a precision touchpad" statement in the settings as I believe I should.
Can anyone help? Is there a specific driver that maybe got corrupted? (I ran the update driver test and it says that my driver is up to date) Or is there a separate driver for the gestures?

My laptop screen has been blinking, like there's a loose wire.  Tilting the screen/lid, or holding it firmly usually makes it stop for a few minutes.  Can anyone help?  If it's a loose wire where can I go to get it fixed, and how much would this cost?

I bought this Laptop for my Grandson for Christmas because it was on sale at a good price and I've had good luck with Dell.. Inspiron 17 5000 Series (5759). Windows® 7 Professional, 64-bit, English. (Includes Windows 10 Pro license)It came with Windows 7 Pro installed and a disc for Windows 10 Pro.The disc is labeled:. Operating System. Already installed on you computer. Windows 10 Pro. 64-bitIt's a good laptop and grandson wants Windows 10 (like his Dell desktop). Upgrading my older laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 10 last summer with the free Microsoft online update was easy, but this has stumped me. I can't find any instructions for installing Win 10 and have been stuck as I try boot from the disc or run the disc from Windows 7. It would be embarrassing to tell the boy that I couldn't do the upgrade.I haven't been able to find any instructions searching online. I'd appreciate help or a link to directions.

Under Windows 7, insert the disc and kick of the installation from there.  The system should then upgrade just fine.  If that's not working, exactly what happens if you try (note that if you choose to have the installer search for updates, it can take quite some time with no apparent activity before the install continues -- even if you have a fast broadband connection, it can take well over an hour).

I would like to setup one, preferably two, external monitors on an Inspiron 15 5000 Series Laptop.
I would like the monitors to work independently (extended?)  ie: Be able to use all *two/three separately - shuffle open windows/pages around between them ..

What do I need to do/buy?

I have not bought monitors yet, but have a source for some used corporate surplus. Going to assume they are not 'the latest greatest' and only have standard hookups (vga or dvi?)

I attempted to do a system reset on my son's new laptop, selecting to keep
his personal files rather than completely wipe everything.  That was 4 hours ago.  How long would it take to restart? It has been on a black screen with the rotating white loading circle constantly going, for the last 3.5 hours and I don't know what to do.  Can anyone help?

A couple days ago, when I turned on my Dell Insprion 17 5000 series laptop, there was an error. The recommended action was that I get a new hard drive. So, that's what I did. I backed up all my files onto a hard drive, deleted my old hard drive, removed it and replaced it with a new one I got in the mail. After installing the new one, my laptop began installing and after a while this message popped up: "Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer restart the installation." I hit okay and the entire process starts all over again.
Now, I've seen videos saying to hit Fn+Shift+F10, but when I do that and type "secpol.msc" or "gpedit.msc" it says that it is not recognized. I am a complete computer noob, so I missed a step or something I wouldn't know. Any help would be appreciated, but if no one has any suggestions, should I send it somewhere to be fixed?

Well, Dell was so very gracious and sent me a brand new keyboard stating that mine was defective since it died yesterday morning. So while I have received the new keyboard, I am clueless on how to remove the defective one and install the new one. There were no instructions sent. No website to visit for instruction and I can not figure out how to do this! Anybody have instructions?

This laptop does not have an Ethernet port. Would it be possible to connect to a wired Internet service (no wifi is available) using an Ethernet to USB adapter like this one?

Hi folks,
I've bought a Dell Inspiron 17 5000 Series gaming laptop (Intel Core i7, 8GB RAM, 1TB, AMD Radeon R7, 17.3" Full HD, Black) for my son along with the newest D3100 docking station and an ASUS VS248HR monitor. 
The docking station does not recognise the monitor (direct HDML cable). When plugged directly in the laptop it is recognised normally (despite some scaling issues at the moment but that's a graphics card/OS thing I'll fix). 
I have made sure that the latest DisplayLink driver is installed, and the docking station modification is A07. 
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

When I connect to an external monitor, my laptop monitor turns off.  When I go to display settings, it will not locate a second display.  It shows 2 pictures of displays, but will only recognize the external.  When I disconnect the external monitor, my laptop will then work.
Any help with this issue is greatly appreciated.

does anyone know if this can be done i have a non touch with a broken screen and would like to install a touch is there any issues with doing so that i would need to know before i order a new screen

I just bought a new Inspiron 15, 5000 series, I just took it out of the box, plugged the AC adapter in , started the setup and the laptop is stuck on the opening screen, it shows my name and the rotating dots, it's been doing that for 30 minutes already. Doesnitbtakevthat long to do the initial setup?

Answer:New Inspiron 15 5000 series laptop, won't get pass the initial boot

try taking the battery out unplugging the charger and then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds and then  put battery back in plug charger up then press power button and see if that may fix it.

Hi,
I have been experiencing very frequent mouse and keyboard problems since I bought my new DELL Inspiron 13 5000 series (3 days ago).The mouse would randomly stop responding to right or left clicks. Also keyboard sometimes when I click on numbers it behaves as If I clicked Enter or ESC..... and this happens inside applications text fields, If I open notepad and type, it is fine...
I tried to plug external mouse, and disabled touch pad still the same behavior, maybe driver or windows issue?
I'm running WIN 10 Home.

I have an Inspiron 17 5000 series with Windows 8.1.  Recently, when I plug an external speaker line into the audio jack, as we've been doing since we bought it about a year ago, there's now a buzzing ticking sound. The music will play, but not without the ticking.  And sometimes when I plug into the audio jack, there's a high pitch squeal that lasts a second. But, the ticking noise doesn't stop.  I've updated drivers and it says they're updated with the latest and greatest. Any solution on fixing this??  Thanks!   -- Russ

i bought a new inspiron 15 5000 series laptop , and i have installed windows 7 on it , because i have certain programs that only operate on windows 7 , the problem is that the USB ports are not functioning due to missing drivers, i tried to look for those drivers on the support page but i couldn't find any specific ones for windows 7.

Just bought a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 and after just a couple of days I noticed that the screen has some odd black spots/shadows at the bottom. I guess I did not notice them before because the Windows bar was covering them.
I have the same problem even when the laptop is booting or in bios, so doesn? seem like a OS problem.
Are all 5000 Series laptops like this? Is this something standard for this laptop? Now that I noticed them I find them very very annoying.

hmmm... from the picture it looks uniform meaning it seems the panel and led back light were not correctly mated together.  I wouldn't accept it and ask for an exchange.

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series laptop (5558) in October 2015 from the Dell store in Amazon. It was shipped with Windows 10 pre-installed (I didn't have to upgrade). The laptop is generally functioning very well and I don't see any hardware issues.
The one issue I'm facing since the time I bought my laptop is that the WiFi disconnects automatically (after a while). There's no specific time period at which this happens, but it happens nonetheless if I leave it alone for a significant period of time (anywhere b/w 30 minutes to a few hours). I mostly leave the laptop on (throughout the day). Each time the only option I'm left with is to restart the laptop which fixes the issue.
Another thing that I observed whenever this issue happens is that all options regarding WiFi don't work. For eg: I tried disabling and enabling the WiFi driver. I clicked on the disable option multiple time and it doesn't do anything. However, when I restart the system, the driver is disabled and I have to manually enable it for WiFi to connect.
Other Devices: I used to have a Dell XPS 13 before and it used to work fine and my office laptop is a Dell Latitude and it doesn't have this issue either. I also connect my phone (Samsung S5) and tablet (Nexus 9) to the same network and no issues.

Laptop: Dell 15 Inspiron 5000 Series (5558)
OS: Windows 10 (shipped with laptop in Oct 2015)
Internet: Comcast 50 Mbps
