Dell Latitude E5480 MDT Deployment Fails

Question: Dell Latitude E5480 MDT Deployment Fails

Hi All
New to the community so apologies if this is in the wrong place. My organisation uses Dell latitudes as there defacto std and we have been issuing E5470's with Win 7 Pro x64 with no real issues, however, have received the latest E5480 as our std device and are facing the problem below.
I use MDT (8443) and WinPE 10 for deploying images and cannot complete the deployment for the 5480 with the old message cannot connect to the deployment share missing NIC driver. I have the latest driver CAB file from Dell, I've tried injecting Win10 NIC drivers into WinPE, downloaded direct from Intel latest drivers etc....Same error
I've put a pause in the litetouch script in case it's the issue with faster ssd's etc all to no avail, was wondering if anyone can throw some ideas my way?
Kind Regards

Preferred Solution: Dell Latitude E5480 MDT Deployment Fails

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Dell Latitude E5480 MDT Deployment Fails

What CPU do these have? If they're 6-th generation (Intel Skylake, 6xxx), WIndows 7 will be fine.
If they're 7th generation (Kaby Lake, 7xxx), there is no support for anything older than Windows 10.

Hi All:
We are trying to PXE boot our Dell E5480s (out of the box) to our MDT Server but they are just timing out.
We are trying to PXE boot with Boot mode set to UEFI and Secure Boot on. We were able to get one of our E5480s to do it and it can keep doing it, but we can't replicate it to any other of our E5480s? And not sure what we did to get it working?!?!
We confirmed they are all the same (as far as we know):
on the same BIOS 1.3.3
UEFI Network Stack enabled, and enabled w/PXE
But the laptops just time out when it is trying to PXE over IPv4.
But we can always get the one good E5480 laptop to get the NBP file and it gets in, we even tried using the same port/ethernet cable as the good Client/E5480 used but still no joy?
Any thoughts?

Answer:Dell Latitude E5480 and MDT

Greetings Marc V,
Thanks for your question. I'm not a PXE/MDT expert but let me see what I can do. I can tell you that we have an MDT bench here and we have imaged a couple 5480s through PXE successfully.
Couple questions:
1. Do the NIC ports get link lights?
2. Do the units that don't work connect to the internet if booted up to the factory image?
3. Are the units that don't work at a different locations from the single one that does work?
What you might do is, reset the BIOS defaults on one of the units that doesn't work, enable needed settings again then try PXE.

We use MDT, Microsoft Deployment Toolkit, To deploy windows 7 and windows 8.1 images to our latitude laptops.
the Control Vault driver is not installing as part of the cab file that has been imported into MDT, there for I have to install it as an post install application.
the switches for the control vault by typing "/?" are shown as /s /f.
the driver installs fine if I run it on a laptop by opening command prompt and the silent install switches but it will fail when MDT tries to run the same command during deployment.
Has ayone had this problem and how have you fixed it?

Hey guys.
Pretty much what the title says - Dell's new, recently-released ControlVault driver (version A19) does not successfully install on a Dell Latitude E6330.  I followed the driver installation order from the "Dell Business Client Re-Image 'How-To' Guide" and installed the Dell ControlVault driver last.  It did not work.
Attached is a screenshot of what I got, and the Windows Installer log.

I've got a Dell Latitude E6320 where the driver installer for the Dell Wireless 1530 wireless card fails.  I'm running Windows 7 64-bit, the computer boots in UEFI mode, and I've installed all of the drivers according to the Latitude E-Family Re-Image Guide.

Wondering if anyone has had video issues with Dell docks? My Latitude E7450 is "unsupported" by Dell, great in Windows 10 with this (glaring) exception.

I have removed the filler plate from the dock, plugged in HDMI and a mini display port directly to the back of the laptop. Been running 4k resolution on both monitors this way all day. If I try to use the dock, no dice. I can see the video card detected/losing one of the 2 monitors over and over.

Nvidia version is 353.30

I have the model laptop above which when I have installed win 8.1 and try to install Intel and AMD display drivers, will fail to display after a restart or wake from standby. I can tell that the laptop is on and the mouse icon will show but it will fail to display. I can use it as is without the display drivers but as i need to connect my second screen via VGA or HDMI it will not be possible as it needs the enhanced drivers.
Please help.

Answer:Dell Latitude E6440 fails to display after installing drivers

I met with the same problem too. I got into system from safe mode, and remove these new drives I installed, and then my laptop got to normal display. If you can?t remove the new installed drives, try to restore your laptop to the previous point before these drives are installed.

E7470 laptop was running fine on BIOS 1.12.3 but received security advisory concerning AMT vulnerability.
BIOS 1.15.4 was just released to address concerns for security advisory CVE-2017-5689 / INTEL-SA-00075.  Applied BIOS revision to the E7470, but after applying it continued to prompt for Bitlocker code after each restart.  Unable to successfully leave Bitlocker protectors on without being prompted for code after each reboot so opted for reimage.
Ran through process of reimaging computer via MDT, but now receive error in smsts logs:
'ProtectKeyWithTPM' failed (2150694914)
Failed to enable key protectors (0x80310002)
Failed to run the action: Enable BitLocker. The BIOS did not correctly communicate with the Trusted Platform Module (TPM). Contact the computer manufacturer for BIOS upgrade instructions. (Error: 80310002; Source: Windows)
Can someone please confirm issue with this latest BIOS and will need Dell to re-evaluate.

We are trying to install Windows 7 x64 on a Latitude E7470 with SCCM 2012 R2. We downloaded the CAB from Dell ( and created a driver package from this like we always do.
The TS fails right after the drivers for the system has been applied. When I press F8 and type IP config I see that it is getting a 169.x.x.x IP address. If I try to renew the address with "ipconfig /renew" it updates to a valid IP. I tried to add this to the TS and now it fails when the applications are about to be installed (error 0x80004005/unknown error). If I check the IP now it shows a valid IP.
We have no issues with all other Dell models we are installing.
I have tried with two different E7470's to check if it was faulty hardware but it is the same on both machines.
Anyone else having trouble with this model?

Answer:Deployment issue with Latitude E7470 from SCCM 2012 OSD

I used a driver grabber software (ConfigMgrDriverGrabber) to grab the drivers from one of the preinstalled E7470's. Then I imported those to a new driver package and it works now.
Something is wrong with the driver pack from Dell but I don't know what...

I have spent days of troubleshooting this deployment . It is still crashing with BSOD 7b when booting Windows 7 x64 for the first time.
Chipset: Intel Skylake
HDD: Liteon CV3-8D128-11 (Main suscpect, cannot find any drivers for this one)
Hotfix KB2990941 & KB3087873 are installed

I have successfully deployed WIndows 7 to a different Skylake computer with a Samsung drive. Help is greatly appreciated.

Hello all:
A couple of weeks ago I received a 7270 for deployment testing. My company currently runs SCCM 2012 SP1 (not R2/no CU's) with the ADK for Windows 8.0 and we deploy to a variety of Dell laptops including the 7240 and 7250. When I tried to boot the 7270 using our existing boot media it did not detect the network adapter.
I downloaded the latest WinPE driver pack from Dell, injected the drivers into our boot image, and still no luck. I then created a WinPE using the ADK for Windows 10. Booting from this image also resulted in the network adapter not being detected, but when I injected the Dell WinPE drivers manually it finally showed network connectivity.
Figuring the necessary network driver is definitely in the WinPE driver pack from Dell, I have tried several different tests to get the driver into our boot image for OSD to no avail.
Is anyone else testing the 7270 and having any luck?

Answer:Deployment issue with Latitude E7270 from SCCM 2012 OSD

We have SCCM 2012 R2. I was working on E7470 the other day and the I219-LM drivers found from Lenovo did the trick for both E7470 & 7270 models. Just import them, and add to your boot image.
It should be under here after you extracted the executable: C:\yada...\PRO1000\Winx64\. The NDIS62 and 65 folders in particular helped to get me going. (win7x64 and win10x64)
Though, there is still lots of work to be done to image these 2 guys w/o errors...Dell+MS...Sigh.
Good luck.

hello i have both these laptops well i have bought a e6420 for my girlfriend as the other one she has is crap.well i have read that these e6420 get warm and well i found out they come with one pipe heatsink well i heard u can upgrade the heatsink to a 2 pipe one.(DUAL HEATPIPE heatsink DELL P/N - TYP01) i was wondering what else do i need to do this as when i get this laptop its second hand i7 pro in it 2.8ghz im going to clean it out and put new paste on it put i hear people are on about this copper shim to put on it.can this be done and well can i upgrade my dell latitude e6430 i5 pro 2.6ghz heatsink with the double heatsink as i know that one only comes with one you guys info if you guys can help me would be class thanks

i got this info here GPU Temperature 103C on Latitude E6420 - General Hardware - Laptop - Dell Community

Answer:Dell latitude e6430 and dell latitude e6420

Joseph mate best leave as is after all it was made to function as it came. Now for the compound and copper shim personally I would not bother with the copper shim I can see no good reason for it the dual pipe again if it was made to work with one pipe then leave alone.

It is better if you renew the compound using a decent cleaner and compound and I can recommend these for that job

Arctic Silver Incorporated - ArctiClean for thorough cleaning and preparation and Arctic Silver Incorporated - Arctic Silver 5 for the compound.

Now it depends on who you listen to but I always use these products and after the old compound is thoroughly cleaned off and the surfaces prepped I spread the compound very thinly and across the both entire surface of the CPU and the heatsink with my finger inside a vinyl or latex glove and then place a rice grain sized piece of compound on the CPU and replace the heatsink. If you touch the surfaces after clean and prep then redo it.

While you are in there do make sure the fan and the radiator are really spotless and I sometimes relube the fan bearings to make sure the fan is running at full tilt when needed.

Having an interesting one.

Deploying a Windows 10 custom image using WDS/MDT.

Using a Dell XPS 13 9350 and the Dell USB 3.0 Ethernet adapter.

I'm able to boot to PXE, load Boot.wim to access my MDT task sequence, which then starts without issue.

The OS is installed, drivers are loaded, then it reboots to boot into Windows and complete the task sequence.

Once its booted into windows 10, the USB network adapter fails to initialize, shows that its failed installation in the device manager even though the device shows as having the correct driver. Unplugging and plugging the adapter back in allows the usb network adapter install and then I'm able to continue the task sequence which has another 2 reboots but doesn't have the issue again.

I've verified the correct nic drivers are being injected for the adapter but it just fails.

Log shows that its failing to load the driver for the usb nic.

This whole process works fine on other hardware I am using. I'm not seeing any driver conflict at all.

Thoughts? Recommendations?

Getting the message after Sysprep stating "Sysprep Fails After Deployment With: Windows could not finish configuring the system...."

This is a new out-of-box Lenovo T530 laptop, it came pre-loaded with Windows 7 Pro.

I pulled laptop from box and inserted our Windows 7 Pro SP 1 disk and installed our copy. I then configured all settings and applications under "audit mode", created an "Unattend.xml" file using the WSIM, and copied that file into the Sysprep folder and ran "Sysprep /shutdown /oobe /generalize /unattend:unattend.xml"

The error message appears after I image drive using Ghost GSS (I'm assuming the error would appear after boot-up regardless of imaging the machine)

I have read numerous articles regarding this error and have also disabled the "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service" as suggested by many. I'm also assuming that the "Hotfix" for this issue does not apply since I am installing SP1.

I am able to boot into the machine after attempting to boot into "safe mode" first (as suggested by many users), however once in, it looks as if the XML file is completely ignored.
Could it be related to the SSD drive in these laptops?

Answer:Sysprep Fails After Deployment With: Windows could not finish configur

So I decided to completely reinstall Win 7 Pro, add drivers needed and Sysprep using the same Unattend.xml file I created, it now comes back with an error after sysprep stating it doesn't like the "amd64_Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup__neutral" pass under "specialize".

It then states it has to reboot and when it does it comes back with an error about "unexpected error" and "windows installation cannot proceed" and to "restart the installation"??

I did manage to Shift+F10 into a command prompt and copy the "setupact.log" and the "setuperr.log" from the "C:\Windows\Panther" folder, it seems to complain about a product key which is not listed in the xml file, so not sure whats up with that.

We have during the last autumn bought 3 Dell Latitude 7275 2in1  which comes with the "Dell Latitude 12 Premier Keyboard"
On all of these we experience a very annoying issue.
When connected to the keyboard it behaves very unstable and frequently looses contact with the 7275 just by a light touch and does not work at all, the users have to be very picky in which angle they have the 7275 connected and use it for the keyboard to work at all.
We have spoken to Dell support last week and they say the are not aware of this at all.
We can´t believe this is "by design" and thus we wonder if anyone else have the same issues here ?
And if so have managed to solve it somehow and can share the solution.

I would like to ask for your assistance because I'm already out of ideas how to resolve this issue. Right after I powered up the laptop, it will get past the DELL logo screen, then it will be completely just black screen. I wouldn't even hear any activity from the CPU fan, HDD and pressing the Caps Lock doesn't lit up the LED. The LED indicators on the side are only displaying the power indicator, but none for HDD, Battery and Wireless.
Here are the steps that I have done so far:
1) Removed the HDD and Battery, then press & hold the power button for at least 45-60 seconds to disperse the internal voltage. Then attach the Battery, but not the HDD.
2) Press and hold Fn and then the Power button, hoping to boot me up to the ePSA Diagnostic Utility
3) Press F2 or F12 while booting up
4) Re-seat the memory and also clean with a dry tissue
These are the procedures that I have done but nothing has changed. It still displays blank screen right after the DELL logo.
I do hope that you could assist me on this. Thank you so much!

I installed Windows 7 64-bit on my Latitude E6400. I cannot seem to find any way to install Dell Control Point. I got the Driver Pack to install. I found one download of Security Manager that worked, but I would like the Power Manager one.

I've looked on this forum a few times and any links I click on just redirect me to the Drivers and Downloads page. I get errors saying that my service pack is not supported.....I'm on Windows 7 Service Pack 1. I also got some 32-bit errors, but that's my fault for downloading the 32-bit version.

Does anybody have a link to the full Dell Control Point package (Power Manager, Connection Manager, Security Manager) that will work on 64-bit Windows 7?

Answer:(Dell Latitude E6400) Dell Control Point on Windows 7 64-bit

Here is a good article on reimaging the Latitude E6400
The Win 7  Control Point System Manager files are a bit tricky to find, but they can be downloaded from the following link.
This should help if you have installed the correct drivers in the correct order.

I am sure there is other way of doing it? it may be a minor problem but it takes to think big either it may caused by some chip to be loose from the motherboard can anyone else did work on it, please give us a results

Answer:dell Latitude stuck on Logo to bios revision

You would need to find someone very good at soldering to permanently fix it. Motherboards are often multi-layer and it is easy to solder things together that you shouldn't. In manufacture they are fitted by flow soldering (bath) techniques. Thanks for the feedback.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Hello All,
Just joined the community to see if I could find the information that I need for deployment of an OS Image, to two Enterprise Class Dell Desktop machines. We have Optiplex 745 and Optiplex 755 models that I cannot find, in the matrix on the page , a reference to either of the two models I am searching for. Perhaps these two models fall under a specific model group, but I cannot tell where or in which group these models would fall into.
Please help, as I would like to prepare a WinPE imaging tool for use on these models, and having the Network Drivers and the Mass Storage Device Drivers found in the correct Driver CAB File, would make a world of difference!

Answer:Dell Driver CAB files for Enterprise Client OS Deployment

You have not found the 745 and 755 in there because those models are already past the 5 year life cycle.
They are no longer supported enterprise clients.
The Optiplex 760 is as low as it goes.

But the screen onlu showed me "Preparing for one time boot menu" 3.Press FN key to enter Dell ePSA, but the screen obly showed me "Diagnostic boot selected" Please someone help me, because I need this laptop for my work. Thanks

Answer:DELL Latitude 3340 Stuck at DELL LOGO

Hi james.hilham,

I would like to look into this further, can you Private Message me your Service Tag on the system? Also, it sounds like you might have seen the Diagnostic Boot Screen, but can you try these steps below to see if it gets any further:

1. Disconnect the AC adapter from the system and remove the system battery.2. Hold down the Power button for approximately 10 seconds to drain any residual power and then release the power button3. Hold the power button down once more while inserting the AC adapter into the system. This will initiate the Forced ePSA which may clear the state causing the system to remain at the Dell splash screen.4. for the basics and schoolwork
and which is newer

Answer:which is better dell latitude e5440 or dell latiude e6430

The E6430 has a metal case and is more robust, but uses an older CPU and chipset.
The E5440 is a plainer chassis with a newer generation CPU and chipset.
The E6440 is the concurrent update to the E5440.
There are too many possible configurations to definitively say which is better -- it depends on the CPU, GPU, etc. in the specific model (or that you choose when you order one, but since the E6430 isn't a current model,  you may be looking at used systems).

Okay, carrying around my Dell Precision M4700 is definitely NOT fun.
I am considering getting Windows tablet for doing basic document / web surfing work with a keyboard attachment.
I was looking at Dell Latitude 10 vs Dell Venue 11 Pro mainly for their user replaceable batteries (especially the Latitude 10 with its ability to have a 4 cell battery in the back!)
Battery life was the most important consideration. And I know how important it is to have a device with replaceable battery from my experiences (so definitely won't be getting a Surface, sorry)
It seems that these two Dell tablets are very similarly spec'd except the Venue 11 has a screen that is .7 inch bigger, which is not a big deal to me. I would be getting both with the Intel Atom processor, since I will be using my Precision for anything intense.
The Venue 11 Pro can be had from Microsoftstore Canada for around $600, while I can find a Dell certified refurbished Latitude 10 tablet from Ebay for about $400.Buy Dell Venue 11 Pro Tablet - Microsoft Store Canada Online Store
The spec seems pretty similar, but I do like the fact that I can add a 4 cell battery in the Latitude for the total battery life of 17 hours, which is why I am leaning towards the Latitude.
To summarize my questions
1) Do you own either of these devices? Could you let me know what you like and do not like about your Dell tablet? How are the keyboard options on both?
2) Do you have any experiences with Dell certified refurbished tablets? The one... Read more

Answer:Dell Latitude 10 Tablet vs Dell Venue 11 Pro

I have never handled a Latitude 10 and my experience with the Venue's is limited to owning the 8 and handling the 11 for about a total of 30 minutes.
Do know that the latest generation of Atom is a major improvement over previous iterations, as least, thats what I have been led to believe.
For basic (or even normal) use, both should suffice, but I'd go for the 11 Pro if performance is on your mind.
The Core i3/5 versions are faster, run hotter (use fans) and probably use more power I believe.

I am having all sorts of trouble imaging a new Dell 5570 laptop with custom Windows 7 SP1 Ent. through SCCM.I have tried Dell support and their assistance so far hasn't been satisfactory unfortunately.

First: I had issues booting the laptop with my boot image, SSD was not recognized. I had to import Samsung NVMe drivers into boot image for the SSD to be recognized and to kick start task sequence.
Now: The task sequence doesn't go through. Immediately after 'Set up Windows and ConfigMgr', the laptop reboots and crashes with the error '0x0000007B'.

I have already tried below with not much success.

Dell Diagnosis says no faults detectedSATA Operation set to AHCI, RAID on in BIOSBoot sequence set to Legacy, UEFIWith and Without 5570 drivers after applying O.SWith and Without KMDF, UMDFDifferent WIM files-one recently updated with most hotfixes, one updated last year, one close to vanilla Windows 7 SP1 Ent.
Any help here is much appreciated please as I have around 20 laptops already procured from Dell and waiting to be imaged before deploying.

I own a Dell Latitude E6430.   I am looking for a Dell Companion 12000mAh or 18000mAh type of device to power and charge my Dell Lattitude E6430 when I am traveling (no outlet available).   When I view the compatibility list for both the Dell Companion 12000mAh and the 18000mAh I don't see the Dell Latitude E6430 in either list.  I went and purchased the 12000mAh and I am attempting to use this to charge and power my Dell Latitude E6430.  It powers my Dell Laptop for about a minute and then quits.   Is there a solution for this problem?   And/or is there another Dell Companion type device that I can purchase that is listed as 100% compatible with the Dell Latitude E6430?   I would like to either get this solution working or purchase the product that is listed as 100% compatible.

hi, my grandaughter has been given a dell latitude, think it must be an old business laptop, it had win2000 in it but she never got any disks or anything with it, she had a new win98 disk which they have put in, now for the problem.....the image on the screen does not fill it, there is a 1 to 2 inch black border round it, and it is set a 16 bit..they downloaded a video driver from the dell site, and it is still the one thing at a time, could someone please tell us what to do next..thank you on behalf of Cheryl and myself.

Hi everyone,

This is a long shot ... I've got a machine from about 1998 here and am hoping someone might be able to remember something about them. It's small, black and very chunky - the Dell Latitude XPi CD ( 166mhz! ). I needed something with windows 98 so I 'upgraded' the drive from 2 gb. to a Samsung HM100JC ( 100 gb. ) Basically I've got some games that don't work with compatibility in XP at all ...

All fine and dandy with swapping the hard drive, but the underneath of the machine gets universally hot as hell! I don't seem to be able to detect a fan, much less any cooling vents. Would I be right in thinking that it was fine with the 2 gb, and it needed neither a fan or cooling vents, but that my latter day 100 gb. drive runs that much hotter? I actually love this laptop, but want to 'waste' neither it or the drive, so any suggestions much welcome!

I've tried the Dell site but the documentation I found wasn't hugely informative about the specific problems I'm having ( though to their credit, all of the setup files were there for download ).

Many thanks,

Answer:Old Dell Latitude XPi - very hot

If your new hard drive is higher RPM than the old drive, then that would explain the heat. Your old drive was probably 4500 RPM, and the new one 5400 or 7200. If that is true, there's not much you can do about it short of buying a new drive.

Question: Dell Latitude CPx

Hi, I have just brought a Dell Latitude CPx back from the dead and it is working wonderfully apart from the fact that the Function (FN) keys don't 'function'.
Any ideas please?

Answer:Dell Latitude CPx

Humm... old.

When you say you brought it back from the dead, how so? Did you have a Dell recovery disk, or did you install an OS from a box into it? Was the keyboard okay before hand, or was it part of the reason for it being DOA originally?

The CPx series were one of those 'semi'-Dell machines, since the same notebook could be purchased in a number of liveries, including HP and Gateway (your machine looks exactly like my Solo 1400). If you loaded an operating system into it that wasn't from a recovery disk, then you probably need to download the drivers from the Dell website into it. Otherwise, the keyboad may be out of sorts, and may need replacing.

If you can find the service tag number (on Dell laptops, they tend to be on a thin white label and are only 6 to 8 digits long), you can punch it in here ( to find out what was on this beastie originally, and what can be downloaded to it.

Ok, so here's the problem.

I have a Dell Latitude CPx J65OGT BIOS Revision A08.
I also have the Windows XP Pro Reinstallation CD with Service Pack 2.

The original problem was upon bootup the computer gave a STOP error:
***STOP:0x000000A5 (0x00000002, 0x81BD9810, 0xE104B780, 0x81BB0AD8)

I tried booting from the Reinstallation CD and this is what happens:

At Windows Setup it gives me -artition [Unknown] 9856MB(9585MB Free)

It gives me the following options, and I have provided the information on what happens when I try each of them:

Create Partition, C - Nothing Happens

Enter, Run Setup - An error has occured while Setup was updating partition information on: 9586 MB Disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on atapi [MBR] Setup cannot continue. (Then the computer restarts)

Delete Partition, D - The BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant. Please contact your system vendor or visit for an updated BIOS. If you are unable to obtain an updated BIOS of the latest BIOS supplied by your vendor is not ACPI compliant, you can turn off ACPI mode during text mode setup. To do this, simply press the F7 key when you are prompted to install storage drivers. The system will not notify you that the F7 key was pressed - it will silently disable ACPI and allow you to continue your installation.

Recovery Console does not work either.

What I gather from this is that the partition is not assigned a prompt (For example, C and I cannot figure out how to give it on... Read more

I have a Latitude CPxJ very similar to what you are describing. I put in a 40 gig hard drive, and eventually had to replace the keyboard (which was simple) and have had absolutely NO problems for the last 5+ years. I run Windows 2000  and Linux as a dual boot with a wireless card and have had no issues with either. That price is a bargain if it is fully functional. Thats a normal problem for those keyboards. You could probably have gotten those keys working again by reseating the cable from the motherboard to the keyboard. Now it sounds like you need a new keyboard. You can probably get one from Dell or possibly find a used one from ebay. Replacements can also be found online like this.

Hello I am currently trying to hook up my dell latitude cpx to my tv to use it as my monitor. It has an S-Video out port, and my tv has RCA ports only, so i purchased a cable which is s-video to an rca connector for my video in. Well when I boot up my laptop, when i get to the welcome screen in xp, it starts to display on my tv, but then about 5 to 10 seconds after that it flickers and the picture goes away.Ive tried everything in the display settings and also enabled everything in my BOIS, with no luck, could anyone help me??

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Dell Latitude cpx, to tv problems

Same. I have a DELL Latitude CPxH running Windows XP and I wanted to use composite video via the S-Video port. It would display on the TV for about 20 seconds at the Welcome screen then go blank.

My solution was to switch off hardware acceleration in the Display Properties / Advanced Settings button / Troubleshooting tab. Move the slider all the way to the left. Reboot as instructed.

PS. The F8 key has no effect. Only one monitor appears in the display properties.

Question: Dell Latitude C600

Hi all,

I have been given one of the above notebooks, problem is, it is an old machine used by my friend in his office, it has Windows NT loaded on it, so I formatted another laptop HDD with Windows XP and change the one in there.

The problem is, on boot up it searches for Windows NT, not found and it returns to the POST state. How can I stop it searching for Windows NT and constantly rebooting?

Answer:Dell Latitude C600

What type of system did you build the other laptop drive on. Is the processor type the same? Also have have you checked your BIOS ssettings to determine if NT is defined there as the OS to look for?

I would do this:

Boot the current hard drive from an XP CD (full install mode) and load XP from scratch on the system you have the drive in. I have found that an XP load for an AMD for example will not boot a system that has a Pentium or Celeron. Also make sure the hardware you have, has XP drivers for all the necessary pieces.

Happy to provide more information if you need.

Hi everyone, Hope you can help . . .I have a Dell Latitude C610 which was running Windows 2000K. I wanted to reinstall Windows 2000K because of the junk built up on the hard drive from Spyware over the past 3 years.I formatted the hard drive then did a successful system transfer sys a: c: I was able to type d: and get a virtual drive although it doesn't see the CD-Rom with Windows 2000K. In fact, it doesn't see anything in the CD-ROM drive at all. Keep in mind, after the format I copied the files such as config.sys, autoexcec and MSCDEX.EXE to C:Now the system simply won't boot from a Win 2K CD at all. The only way to get anywhere is with some half corrupted floppy that indicated OAKWOOD drivers corrupted and corrupted Config.sys and Autoexec.bat. With the corrupted disk I can at least get an A: prompt, from there I can do FDISK, FORMAT and Switch between C: and A: Other than that I'm dead wood-- I figure I screwed up the FDISK, FORMAT and SYS TRANS or the partition some where. Ironically I can boot from an old Windows NT Server disk, but there are problems because of hard disk size, which the system won't allow me to change.  I really just want to get back to Win 2K or even Win 98.   HELP!!!! I'm freaking' out here. . .   Best regards,AvengerM!

Answer:Dell Latitude with an Attitude!

Travel to and DLoad the WinME bootdisk.Select the one with CDRom support.Use the file to create a bootable floppy.Format that drive by typing format C: /u at the A: prompt. After formatting type R: and hit Enter...this will log the CD drive. At the R: prompt type setup and hit Enter and the Win2K setup will start.Good Luck.

Ok I have this old dell laptop latitude LS which is a p3 400mhz I beleive I saw that during bootup and it will run win2000, nt, 98, according to that that little sticker label on the front. Now currently when booting up it goes to a windows 98 command promt with the c: prompt flashing. Is there a way to load up windows from there?

If not then How is it possible to install a windows os? Theres no floppy drive, cdrom drive, just a docking staition, pcmia slot, usb port etc

Answer:help with dell latitude laptop......

Yea it sounds like someone formated it with /s option. Anyway OP you can boot the machine off a cd and install windows or get a boot disk from and boot it off a floppy drive with cdrom drivers on it. This is if you can find a cheap set of drives for it.

You can also hook the hard drive up to a desktop using an adapter and copy the windows install files to it and start the setup from that command prompt.

Ok MajorDomo's post was here when I looked in here. O well.

I was wondering which one you would get. I was wondering if the Pentium M was as good and has the preformance or near the preformance of the P4. I was also wondering if the Thinkpad was more reliable than the Latitude.

Please Post

Hi all, I was thinking about purchasing a Dell Latitude d420 for $170 is this a good laptop for its price, It has 1GB RAM and comes with charge and all . It looks fresh I didn't see any scratches or anything tomorrow before I buy it I am going to take a look at it again and turn it on. The local pawn shop by my school is selling it.

I need a laptop that is good on the go and just like this witch is lightweight and small to carry. How is it? What are your reviews about it are the latitude series good for a high school student? I might play some games on it like WoW. If I do purchase it I am going to install Windows XP Crystal and optimize it the best I could..

I would of had my HP Pavillion dv9000 but turns out I bought a new LCD and whole screen for it and got it installed now the Graphics card web on it , If I wanted to replace it I would need to change the whole mother board HP said sucks for me...

Question: Dell Latitude D620

I think this is probuly a simple fix but I don't see it, I have XP pro for a operating system. This just started about a week ago. When watching a movie after about 10 min the screen goes back to the log in screen. I log it & that's ok for another 10 min or so. I went into display & shut all that off so it's not suppose to do anything when Idle but it still goes back to the log in screen....Any ideas as to how to fix this.

Answer:Dell Latitude D620

So it goes back to the log on screen when it's idle or watching a movie? Anything where the mouse isn't moving?

Try a couple of things:
1. Go to Control Panel > Power Settings and adjust your power scheme
2. (If you're using Windows Media Player) Go to Tools > Options (maybe a little different depending on version). In the player tab under player options there should be a setting you can uncheck for allow screen saver during playback.
3. On the desktop Right Click > Properties > Screensaver Tab and uncheck the "On Resume, display logon screen" (or similar) if you're able to.

It's probably the screensaver popping on and prompting for logon, so just check these three things and see what they do. Let us know if this didn't fix it.

Question: Dell Latitude D800

I had to reinstall windows xp professional home edition on a Dell Latitude D800. It works perfectly for the moment. The instant I try to install netzero dial up internet it starts freezing and I can't even get it to connect to the internet. When I cancel out of the netzero install/setup, it will still freeze just by clicking on something as simple as the start menu. I have reinstalled windows a few times, and every time I get the same result. Does anyone know what could be causing it to do that? Is it possible that the xp professional home edition is too much for the laptop to handle? Or is it that I might not have all the drivers installed that I need? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Answer:Dell Latitude D800

Hi Cappi106, you said you reinstalled XP but did you formatt it first? You also say as soon as you try to install.............the software, have you first installed all of your drivers? e.g. audio, video and network drivers? Here is the link to Dell, you will have to go through and find what you need.

I am trying to get rid the generic display adapter. How do I get the right drivers to clear out my device manager?

Answer:Dell Latitude D610

That's an Intel integrated GPU - unfortunately, Intel does not support Windows 10 on this chipset.  You're stuck with the Windows drivers.

Can anyone please tell me where I can obtain a plug to fit the DC input socket (3 pin) on a Dell Latitude laptop ( The cable is open circuit inside the existing hard wired plug and I am reluctant to buy a new power supply ). I suspect this may be unique to Dell, but fingers crossed !!!!

click hereis it one of these. If so it is a clover leaf connector and they are pretty common. Are you located in the UK before we start posting where to get them.

Hello, I borrowed a Dell Latitude 630 because my Compaq nx9420 can hardly even boot up now. I'm not sure if the sound stopped after I installed a game or after I plugged my headphones into what I was pretty sure was a headphone port. I don't remember, but all I know is that I can't play World of Warcraft and I'm freaking out. Can someone please help me? It has XP.

Ok I am  kind of new to all this so please have a heart and  refrain from making me look stupid cause i might make it easy  by  being a easy  target . I have a dell laptop latitude d820 and my goodness it was / is slow . I mean so  slow  mail might be more practical using lets say the pony express so i do mean slow.  Then if anyone could be kind and  can help me get it to have better performance i would really be grateful. That is not the main problem,  due to it being so slow,  i searched ,  read  and saw its a good idea to reformat the entire thing and that  i did. I followed direction per windows tutorials and made a back up disk to reboot from. I then formatted the thing clearing it back to its virginity state and proceeded to boot from back up disk. I was informed i needed to authenticate my version of windows 7 so i used the key located on the bottom of my dell. It acted like it was going through and by that i mean it was taking forever and then eventually came back saying i could not use that key for my version of windows 7 pro. I dont have the money to just go buy a new one and it wont let me authenticate this version . Please someone,  anyone help me out here . To top it all off its even slower so it seems . Any education or enlightenment will be very welcomed and well received . Thanks and hope to hear all the things i need to bring this dell back to its working state.

Answer:need help please dell latitude d820

The Latitude D820 would have shipped with Windows XP Professional and not Windows 7 professional. They key will be for Windows XP Professional...
It should run Windows 10 32 Bit okay, follow this guide:

Question: Dell latitude D630

Hi all,
ok I pulled a real boner and it has me going nuts. I bought a used Dell D630, the unit had/has a bios boot password. Well the price was good has an extended battery etc, clean machine etc. I thought what the hell I should be able to work around that! LOL wrong
anyways while trying different key strokes while booting I found a combo that did something. As the unit is booting I held the CTRL key down and mashed the 'D" key (not the delete key "D" as in Delta) a zilllion times, well the password screen came up with normal text except a now it showed a few garbage characters, ok it is doing something. I repeated the boot and mash three more times and finally came up with total googly gawk. Cool maybe I got somewhere, did a reboot with no mashing.....oop's NO video, unit lights up, drives come on back light comes on NO nothing no text no boot no post screen nothing!

Removed cmos battery, took out battery unplugged power held down the power button for minutes...walla nothing. It appears I bricked the unit? it wouldn't even boot up with a live cd. So now have I just flushed 150.00 down the toilet? from key combos? I even tried the external monitor that didn't work.....any ideas? Thanx all

I have looked in the control panel and on the sound and audio devices properties under volume, it sats 'No Audio Device'. Does this mean no sound card it installed. What about an onboard one? I have looked in the BIOS and can see no mention of anything to do with a sound device! Cheers

My friend gave his laptop to try and fix because I am pretty tech savvy, although had virtually no experience with laptops. His has the problem of not turning on, I couldn't hear the hard drive stating to spin so I took the one out of my laptop and put it in his. Nothing changed but then when I put my hard drive back, my screen wont turn on, just the lights and I cant hear the processor, or harddrive start up. nothing but the little power lights. I really need you help guys, I am selling this laptop to friend of my brother this week

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Answer:Dell Latitude won't turn on

Remove the HardDrive again from your laptop (I think we are only talking about your Laptop)
Remove the Power Adaptor and Battery
Hold down the ON button for 30secs (dispersing all internal voltage)
Put the Power Adaptor back in (No HardDrive yet!)
Turn On
Does it now show a display?

If Yes. Turn it off, and put the HardDrive and Battery back in.
If No, Remove the Power Adaptor again
Disperse the internal Voltage again
Remove and reseat the Ram (sometimes blowing out any dust too)
With the Ram back in, Put the Power Adaptor back in
Turn on

Did it work?
