I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So I was in this website (dashboard.zopim.com) for working purposes and whenever I get a chat request there's a sound and somehow my computer stopped with the sounds. I restarted the computer and there was a mute symbol in the audio, and I got really surprised when I tried to unmute it and got a message like "there is no audio installed" . I went to the system settings and saw that 2 icons - Intel High Definition DSP and Intel High definition display audio had a yellow mark. I went to Lenovo's website and downloaded the driver and it didn't work. Then I found some instructions on microsoft's website. It worked but then I had to use the site again and... Not working! I made it work again but now there's a delay. Sometimes there's no delay on the sound and sometimes there's about 5 sec. Please, help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was checking some topics regarding the same problem  , and it seems that the problem hasn't been sovled yet. The problem is I removed vista and installed xp on my notebook ( because vista sucks ) , and now the audio is not working .I've been trying to make it work for the past 2 days , I tried everything , but yet , nothing happened. When I try to install the audio driver , it says " Driver installation failed , could not find the MEDIA device for this driver" . Note that at device manager , there is no question mark near anything , there's only an exclamation mark near " Mircosoft UAA Bus Driver For High Definition Audio ". Any suggestions ?

Hi all,I have a problem with audio driver for SoundMax Integrated HD Audio on my T60. I've recently upgraded from Win XP to Windows 8 and tried a bunch of different audio drivers with no luck. The last one is 6.10.2.7255 issued by Lenovo (x64). With all the drivers I've tried, playing any music or video file jams from time to time. I don't know any better way to describe it - once every 5-10 minutes it's like it hangs for a second. It crunches and than plays on. It's so **bleep** annoying I'm seriously considering going back to Win XP. Please help!

Answer:Problem with audio driver for SoundMax HD Audio and Windows 8

Hi, babalku

Have you made sure that all the other drivers for your system are up to date? Unfortunately, there is not an update available for every device, but those that are available should be downloaded first to maximize compatbility with all devices. All drivers available for your system can be found here. The results can also be filtered by device and operating system using the dropdown menus at the top of the page.

Best of luck, and let me know how it goes
Adam

Answer:Nvidia HD audio and Microsoft hd audio Driver problem

Hi tice1231

Could you possibly tell us the exact Video card you are using. Maker and Model?

Is this the correct one? zotac synergy edition 4gb GT630? 650?

EDIT:

I see you have your own soundblaster Audio card? Does the motherboard have onboard sound card? If so, try disabling the onboard sound in the BIOS. See if that helps.

EEPC 4G DRIVER INSTALLING PROBLEM..CANNOT INSTALL REALTEK AUDIO DEVICE DRIVER IN WINDOWS XP PLATFORM SP2..PLS HELP?:cry

Answer:Eepc 4g driver installing problem..cannot install realtek audio device driver

Post a make and model # if your PC is manufactured (Dell, Gateway, HP, etc.)

Use Everest to get a report of your system?s hardware, OS, and drivers. Upload the report as an attachment
Everest: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4181
When Everest is done scanning, click "Report" at the top of the Everest window, click next to get to "Report Profile", select "Hardware related pages", click next, select "Plain Text", click "Finish". Then when it is done processing, click "Save To File". Save it where you want to. (I would use Desktop.)
Click "Go Advanced" in the MG reply box, scroll down a little way until you see "Manage Attachments", click it, browse to your file, click "Upload", and close the window. Then submit the post. You may have to also type something in the reply box, like, "Here's my report.", so that it will submit.

(Before I begin, yes I did read other people's threads based on problems similiar to mine but it did not help.)

I have an Intel Desktop Motherboard DQ35JO and have gone to the official Intel website to download and install the updated BIOS and drivers needed for my motherboard. My OS is XP Professional Service Pack 3.

Every driver installs fine except the High Def Audio Realtek driver. I've done so many things and I still cannot get the the problem fixed. Not to mention, my Device Manager keeps popping up telling me that it cannot find nor install the "PCI Driver" hardware.

Can anyone help? I've done so much and I still have no sound and no sound driver. Odd thing is, sound worked really fine before on another hard drive of mine that had XP Professional Service Pack 3 installed (which has gone to crap because certain startup files were missing (vgaoem.something)). But on this new hard drive that I recently bought AND installed XP Professional Service Pack 3 on, the sound driver is not installing or updating correctly.

Answer:PCI Driver/Realtek Audio Driver problem

Never mind.

The information in this thread helped me out. It didnt work the first time around, but I tried it out another time and it worked completely.

Thank you musksnipe.

HI

Moved your post to a seperate thread of its own and its always wise to have a dedicated thread to your issue as it maybe different to the original posters one.

However you have no report attached to your post or a description of exactly what you issue is, is it the same as the title of the other thread as in Can't find audio driver for intel 82801db ich4 - ac'97 audio controller driver or different?

Please do give us the name of your PC if a OEM one from HP, DELL etc or the name of the motherboard? This app will help http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html and once installed and run click Computer > Summary

These are the chipset and audio drivers for your motherboard. ASUS P4B533-VM
It's a good idea to install the chipset and then the audio.

Hi
I have an Acer Aspire 5315 with Windows Vista. Around two weeks ago my computer started saying that there is no audio device installed. I went to Acer's website and downloaded the Realtek sound download for my model and operating system. When I ran it, it said "no drivers found" or "no driveres supported" (I'm sorry I can't remember which). So I deleted the file and downloaded it again and all it did was open the file and display the contents instead of running it automatically. Also, when I go to the control panel and look under sound it still tells me there is no audio device installed.

I don't know much about drivers. Honestly, I don't really know what a driver is or does. I've just been going on answers other people with "no audio device installed" questions have gotten. Can somebody please help me?

Answer:Problem with Audio Driver "No audio device installed"

Mel: When the file displayed its contents, did you look to see if there was a "Setup.exe" file?
If there is one, double click it and it should load the drivers.
Also, look in Device Manager for any yellow ? marks.

Answer:Audio driver problem

I did a scan and this is the sound card
Manufacturer: Analog Devices, Inc.
Description: SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio

I searched for a driver download for the above sound driver and every time I downloaded something to the install shield it would give me this error. Driver not found! Reboot your system and try this program again.

Hello. I have been dealing with audio problems recently. I found many solutions in the internet but the problem randomly occurs. I tried forcing the driver install, etc but it just won't get fixed. I have read that forcing the default HD driver that Windows offers gave them the solution but for me, sometimes it works and after a restart or after my computer wakes up from sleep, there it is again, no audio. I don't know if this is already a hardware issue since my audio jack is not working anymore. Previously it works but the sound leaks, meaning, there is sound coming from the speakers and sound coming from the headphones. But now, it just does not work. If this is any help, this is the hardware ID:

HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_111D&DEV_76E5&SUBSYS_00000100

I also tried installing the Windows 8.1 driver but it says that the hardware is not compatible with the driver and to think that I got it from HP's website for my laptop model, it's kinda depressing. I have been through a lot of OS reinstalls. I even got back to 8.1 and same problem. I don't know what to do anymore. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Answer:IDT Audio Driver Problem

To eliminate your audio port and related hardware as the issue, you could test a USB audio device, ie, headphones or a USB speaker, if you have access to one.

I know for a fact my sound card is working fine because I was using it right before I formatted. How do I get my audio devices working again? My audio driver is just a factory one that came with my computer, Legacy I think, not too sure though. Thanks.

Hi all,

I have a BENQ Joybook S53, and after I installed W7 last night, the audio stopped working. It says that I have "no audio devices installed"...

It also happened to me last time when I rebooted my XP, but after I downloaded the audio driver everything went well. However, this time, even after I downloaded and installed the audio driver, it still says the same thing!!

I even went back to XP and copied all the files regarding to "drivers" and pasted into WINDOWS (under C drive) and some others under System32... But it still isnt working for me...
I think my audio device is "Conexant AMC 2 Channel Audio" when I checked in XP..

Thank you for your help.

Please follow this tutorial Driver selection for your Hardware devices.
If you have any further problems, or can't find a driver, please post back the information found under hardware id's here for all devices with a yellow triangle next to them. Either myself or another member will then see what we can find for you.

It always seems to happen that when I think I'll do the right thing and update my windows through the Windows Update, I end up screwing something
I cannot hear audio out of my speakers in the programs I am running
The Sounds and Audio Devices Control Panel tells me that there is no device for any of the options
I cannot listen to music through MediaMonkey
and I am unable to hear sound through VLC

the only time I am able to get sound to play is when I go into "dxdiag"
->Music tab
->Test Direct Music using the Conexant AMC Audio
-> a funny little diddy plays through my speakers

I don't know what has happened
I tried to roll back the driver
I tried to update the driver
I downloaded a BIOS flash, but I don't want to get into that if I don't have to, as I am never sure I got the right one

all I want is sound!
any help or clarification will be quickly appreciated

Answer:Audio driver problem

When you download the .exe driver file and double click it, it does not install the driver it only unpacks the driver. Look in the folder c:\Software Tools\ you should see a folder labeled audio, that is your driver. Find the .exe in that folder and launch and the driver will install.

Chipset: Intel i865P/PE/i848P
Southbridge: 82801EB (ICH5)
CPU: Intel Pentium 4

My nephew plugged his usb mp3 player into my aged p300 and installed it etc. As I didnt have any drivers for it he installed a generic usb audio driver from the win98se cd. I screwed up the system. At first it didnt work at all. I've since been through safe mode, removed the device, restarted many times but the whole system is running extremely slowly.

When I double click on my computer nothing happens for about 4-5 mins. At times I have assumed that nothing will happen and restarted. Everything seems to get locked up and the only way I can close programs is with ctrl+alt+del.

I've tried using winoptimizer to clean things up but that hasnt worked either - doesnt seem to be much good full stop.

I would really appreciate some help with this.

Hi, yesterday I've updated to W10 anniversary. After that my PC has a lot of audio problems,  include the low too metallic. So after reading in this forum I updated the driver (sp74867), but my audio control (button F6 in keyboard) doesn't work and the volum is too low. When I restart my notebook the updated driver disappears,  with the previous one, with all the problems. I've also tried, with no success, the troubleshooting tool in Windows, but nothing. What can i do?Thanks in advice.Andrea

So, a week ago I noticed that left audio channel isn't as loud as right audio channel. I tought it was the earphones because the day after, they worked normal. A balanced audio on both channels. But 2 days ago the left channel only gave about 20% of audio. It was very quiet. I tested the earphones with my phone, and they work like they should. So the laptop is the problem. Long story short, I've let my laptop to update and the left audio channel worked, but again with lower sound than the right one. I went to boost the left channel and got to 100 and left one stopped working again as I've got to 100. I have downloaded the new driver to laptop from Lenovo website (I have Lenovo g505s) and haven't installed it yet because I'm kind of lost where to install it. I installed all drivers when I installed Windows, but this is kind of a problem to me because I don't know which driver is the problematic one (I went to device manager and don't know the difference between "audio inputs and outputs" and "sound, video and game controllers").

Sorry for the long post to a probably simple solution, but these problems are always so specific with me and usual internet solutions are not useful.

When you download the driver, Laptops-and-netbooks :: Lenovo-G-Series-laptops :: Lenovo-G505s-Notebook - Lenovo Support (US) it comes down as a .exe file, just double click it or Run it and it will install to the proper place.
Try a different set of speakers, clean the pin contact.

Okay. So recently my brother downloaded a trojan virus on my computer by mistake.  After we rebooted the computer, we noticed that we didn't have audio.  After several attempts to find the disk that contained the driver, we ended up looking online for it.  After searching for a while I discovered the driver on Microsofts website and downloaded. This didn't fix the problem however as, for some reason, my computer does not allow me to use it still.  It says the status of the driver is "Enabled but not Functioning" and when I click settings it tells me that it "Cannot Locate Realtek AC'97 Audio Drivers. The driver file may be missing. Try installing the driver again or contact your systems administrator."  I've re-downloaded the driver multiple times now, and it hasn't worked.  Any help with this issue would be appreciated.

My Ideapads audio turns into mute. I cannot open it anymore. How can I install and restart my audio back into normal? thanks

Answer:Audio Driver Problem

Welcome to the forum, junalcazar. You forgot to mention how the sound got lost. From the title of your thread, my guess is you installed an audio codec driver that never got completed. If it were, try going back to the setup.exe of the audio driver and double click it again to complete the installation, then reboot. Hopefully you will get back the sound.  Otherwise give us more information.

Still haven't solved this issue: http://forums.techguy.org/all-other-software/1038300-xp-pro-problem-realtek.html

and was hoping someone could help, tried everything I can think of, and lots of things others have suggested, but still I have no sound.

My audio device comes up in device manager as 'Multimedia Audio Controller' but has a little "!" on it. When I try to update the drivers, it automatically installs Realtek AC97, but at the end of the installation, the computer blue-screens.

I downloaded the correct drivers for my PC (Realtek HD) from the Packard Bell website, and though the installation process finishes, nothing changes. I still have the 'Multimedia Audio Controller' with the "!" and if I go to 'Sounds and Audio Devices' it says 'No Audio Device'.

I've been without sound on my computer for months now, if you can help, please please do. Thank you.

I purchaced a Sony Viao PCG-6GBP in another country. I installed windows xp pro on it. I don't have have sound now. I tried to find drivers for it, but I don't know what kind of soundcard is in it.

This is what I found out in Device Manager, under "Other devices", where is a "PCI Device" with a yellow ?! mark next to it. When I get "Properties" from it, it shows Unknown under Manufacturer, and it tells me no drivers have been installed on it.

However, under the "Details" tab, I see this:

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2668&SUBSYS_81CC104D&REV_03\3&B1BFB68&0&D8

How can I find out wht kind of soudcard I have, and also how do I fix it?

Thanks for your help

Hi all,

I own an ASUS A5E laptop. Yesterday I decided to install a fresh copy of Windows XP Pro SP2 on my system, as it had slowed down quite a bit and was due for an overhaul.

I completed the installation successfully and then went to install the ASUS drivers. I downloaded these from the ASUS website. All of the drivers installed fine except one (version number given here is as per the ASUS support website):

HDAUDIO SoftV92 Data Fax Modem with SmartCP driver for WinXP V7.17.00

This I believe is a modem driver that I require. I know last time when I reinstalled windows I skipped this one cause I thought I didn't need the modem but it turns out that my audio doesn't work without it. So my dad figured that out and installed it on my machine and presto everything worked fine.

Anyway when I try and install this driver now it goes through the whole installation procedure and finishes simply with a "FAILURE" message at the end. There's no error code or any such thing that I can discern.

Anyhow, thinking that it might be because I didn't use the original drivers, I had my brother make a disk image of my original ASUS driver cd which is at home, and send it to me. I extracted the disk image fine and then reinstalled windows again and installed all the drivers from the disk image.

The problem persists though: I can install all of the drivers fine except the modem one.

I then tried different combinations of chronology in which I installed ... Read more

Answer:audio driver problem

Your problem may have as much to do with memory as to Sound.
I would suspend or remove your audio drivers in the device manager, then download and install new drivers. I think you need to replace the drivers to rule them out as part of the problem.
Then I would check all your sockets related to audio, because using incorrect sockets is one of the most common of all computer user problems.
Then I would go back to your Sounds and Audio Devices in the Control panel, and Restore the Default Settings.
Once you have it working in Default mode, you can re-establish the setup you prefer.

I recently reformatted my pc i have a hp pavilion 7862. Thing is I dont have the hp recovery disk either i lost it or the pc didn't came with it.

So I reformatted the pc with an unattended version of windows xp. Everything went right and the only problem that i encountered were that there was no drivers for audio, video or raid devices.

The video device i got the driver from NVIDIA easy.
For the audio device i downloaded Everest to scan my pc for the name of the device it came out as VIA AC97 audio so i searched and I downloaded it.

It successfully installs and the it reboots and now when i enter windows after prob 15 seconds a Blue Screen of Death comes up telling me that the driver is wrong and it tells me sysaudio.sys is causing the damage.

I already tried to solve the problem in safe mode same thing happens, running CHKDSK same thing, command prompt, vga the same. I can enter windows but it will stop working after the 15 sec.

My question is how can i remove or uninstall the driver from ubuntu or what can i do._

thx

Answer:Problem with Audio driver

You may be able to use "last known good config" from the boot options menu, otherwise you would just re-install Windows XP again.

It's quite likely that Windows Update will have the audio driver for your system, so once you can boot again point your browser to this URL and update any drivers that it suggests : http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

you need the actual driver rather than software, double check correct driver (motherboard driver) from site, possibly uninstall what you have done already and reinstall, sometimes these work better installing from safe mode, press f8 on start up

Uninstalled the driver/sound device, re-installed - still no sound. Stuck a Sound Blaster in, installed the drivers. Wont work either. Sound Blaster shows up fine in Device manager, but under Control Panel >Sound/Audio it shows No audio device.

Any tips/suggestions?

System specs are

dfi lan party ultra d

2 gigs gskill ram
20gb harddrive
ati radeon x550

edit: screenshot
Edit once again: I got to a properties page that says the driver is "enabled but not started"

edit 3rd time: might have found a fix. keep you all posted, haha.
FINAL UPDATE: Figured this out. What you need to do if you have this problem is follows:

copy C:\windows\inf\machine.inf to a temp folder
remove line 20, "ExcludeFromSelect=*"
then go install new hardware, have disk, and install 'plug and play software enumerator' with the machine.inf file in the temp directory.

And you're done.

Hi,
Recently I had a mishap with the Creative X-FI driver 7-30-2009 update, and I can no longer hear sound in Windows 7. As a result from this, most of my audio drivers/Creative X-Fi programs ended up deleted. At that point, I tried to uninstall my audio card from device manager and restart to get the original, default drivers back. However, this ended up making my card (X-Fi Titanium) unrecognized by device manager. I attempted to reinstall the 7-30 update but it ended up blue-screening my computer. I system restored, and luckily most, if not all the drivers and programs are back. Is it safe to try to reinstall the audio card via device manager again? If not, is there a better, safer way to get the sound working again?
Thanks very much in advance.

Answer:No Audio, Driver Problem

Uninstall all your Creative drivers download Guru3D - Driver Sweeper (Setup) download from Guru3D.com clean the creative drivers, restart the computer and try installing it agian, If it blue screens agian its a hardware problem with your sound card.

I've been trying to fix the audio driver on my custom build. The audio works fine for most programs, but for the Elgato Game Cap software I get no signal. When I go into the Device Manager under the sound, video and game controllers tab, 'VIA High Definition Audio' works fine but the 'High Definition Audio Device' has a caution sign and says the device cannot start. I've tried updating, uninstalling, reinstalling, disabling, downloading drivers from Realtek, but so far nothing has worked. I've used a couple of driver programs as well but those didn't work either.

Any help on the matter is greatly appreciated.

In most cases (all I've seen) if its just "High Definition Audio Device that is usually a generic Windows installed driver. What video do you have? With the i5, it has built in Intel HD Video and also HDMI Audio. You should also be showing Intel HDMI Audio in the Device Manager.

More PC Spec's are needed.

It sounds like the PC sound is working OK and the issue is with the Elgato software.

I have a GA Z77X UD5H motherboard (with RealTek audio).

Hi, According to your text report, your pc is a Toshiba Satellite L505D.
So the first and easiest move would be to go to Toshiba's site, they should have all the drivers for your pc.
http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe....=30&selType=all&country=8&language=13&search=

In the 'Driver type' box, scroll down to 'Sound driver'.
Then click on 'Search'. You will see a line with 'Realtek' in it, you need to click on the small red 'down arrow', to get the file, which will be in a 'zip' form, ready to download.

Delete all video and sound driver4. Reboot5. When the system ask if you have the drivers, answer yes6. Then give them the path where you downloaded the drivers That's the easy way, if that does not work for you let me know and I will guide you through the hard way. Answer:Problem Locating Audio Driver..please Help

Hi Kris.
There are different drivers for different via chipsets.
It's always best to get these from either the motherboard or system manufacturer.
If you bought this system pre-built by a major manufacturer, go to the manufacturers website or post make and model here.
If it's a "no-name", like you see in some mom and pop shops, post make and model of motherboard.

I hate when this happened. I have downloaded the lastest version of Nvidia Quardo 2000m driver, which is 285.62. And I have also update the BIOS to 1.33. They did not work at all. However, I did not have this problem about 2 days ago.  I had exactly same Nvidia driver at the time, only the BIOS was different which was 1.27. This morning I restored the machine back to last sunday. (which is the time everything was supposed to be okay)However, I still got this problem when I opened my PhotoShop. Then, I undo the restore back to yesterday. I assume that ThinkPad W520 series is good for graphic designing or anything like this. How come I always have this problem? Thanks.

I have installed realtek r2.55, its features are really good..! Am thoroughly enjoying it.. but, i have a problem. If i listen to music more than 3 or 4 hours or watching one or two movies continuously.. suddenly the sound strucks and sounds like old gramaphone records struck in middle..... not even system sounds are working at that time..! It turns back to normal after a restart..! But this problem occurs again and again...! Kindly some one help me to sort this out...!( This prob has never occurred when i was using default MS HD Audio Driver )

And, One more help.. am so passionate about voice recording, I use AVS Audio Editor for recording my voice in Windows 7. It has no probs when recording in 2 channel stereo, but it displays error if i try to record multichannel more than 2, (i.e 2/1 surround, 5.1 surround etc.) Please help me what should i do.. to do recording in multi channels...!!

Thank you...

Their are several ways one would be og to your MB site and lookup the drivers for your card, it should tell you what it is.

The other is to go to device manager>click on sound device>properties>details tab>drop down menu> select hadward ID>Copy and Paste it and either we or you can put it in a search engine and it should direct you to what it is.

Hi there!
I have a laptop running XP SP2, which uses the Vinyl AC'97 Codec Combo Driver (WDM). Its been running ok for 2 years now, but just lately 99% of the time when I boot up it fails to recognise the audio driver. In device manager it has the yellow warning icon against it, and when I click on properties i get 'This device cannot start. (Code 10)'. I've tried updating the driver using the update facility in device manager, but it makes no difference. I've searched other forums and there does seem to have been other people affected by this, but noone seems to have an answer for it. It sounds like some kind of conflict, but i'm really at a loss. I've tried uninstalling the driver and letting a re-boot add the hardware, it loads the driver ok, but device manager and 'volume control' still say there is no audio device. Very very occasionally when I boot up it DOES find the audio, and everything is fine until then next time i boot. Please can anyone help? regards, Fishy

Answer:Vinyl AC'97 audio driver problem

I'm assuming its all onboard sound, but could there be a loose connection inside the case? it might explain the intermittent nature of the problem?

Hi everyone!

I try to give as much detail of this problem as I can think of right now:
I just freshly reformated my C: drive, and when I went to reconfigure my drivers, the sound driver can't seem to work properly.
The computer beeps whenever it should give the standard windows ding from the speekers, the device manager shows a yellow exclamation mark (!) at my sound driver, which is a Realtek AC'97 Audio driver, and when I try to refresh or dowload another one, it says: Device cannot be activated (Code :10). I've downloaded the latest version from Realtek's page, did not fix it. It gives me a warning when I try to refresh it though, that 'This device did not pass the Windows Logo test', saying it's not compatible with XP. Which is funny, since before the reformat, I've been using it for a year without any problems. My Audio Card is an Intel 82801GB ICH7 - AC'97 Audio Controller [A-1], according to Everest. I've also checked the audio support in BIOS, it's enabled. In the Control Panel->Sound & Audio Devices panel everything is grayed out, every checkbox and every combobox on all tabs.

Can someone help me with this problem? I'm in a serious need of music right now...

Some things to check:
Check that Windows Audio Service is started.
Go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services
Scroll down the list of services until you find the Windows Audio service.
Right click on it and choose Properties.
Make sure it is set to Automatic and Start is checked.

Make sure all your updates are current, including DirectX.

If you aren't able to fix this post a make and model # if your PC is manufactured (Dell, Gateway, HP, etc.) or your motherboard ID, if it is a build. Or even better:
Also, the attachment below may help you out some.

Ok, I reformatted my hard drive over a month ago because of virus problems. Since then I've had no sound. I've done the device manager thing, downloaded the drivers for my computer model. Problem is, it doesnt detect any kind of sound device at all. I need help. I want sound. I had it before. I've ran programs that are supposed to find the sound device anyway but they aren't working. I'm not sure if my sound device is a card or integrated. I need to find out what make and model it is so I can get the correct driver but when I open up my computer it tells me nothing. I don't know what I'm looking for. There is a box, in the back, where the audio devices hook into... It says lot 65 on it... That's it. Please help me this is driving me insane. I feel like I've tried everything.

Answer:Think Centre A58 Audio Driver Problem

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Audio drivers (depending on your OS) can be found here:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-71882.html#audio

After the first setup finishes, you would need to go to "C:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERS\AUDIO\w7aud06us17\Setup.exe" to run the second one in order to successfully install the driver.

Let us know if it helps.

After upgrading to the latest Conexant audio drivers (4.92.2.0) my audio stopped working.  Vista is showing a speaker icon with a red cross in the tray.   Swithing between Microsoft's and Conextant drivers it either shows:-  No audio device is installed- Or it show playback devices (Speakers and SPDIF interface) but testing these devices don't produce any sound output. Uninstalling, rebooting and reinstalling the driver also doesn't work. Uninstall always reverts back to Microsoft's "High Definition Audio Device"- it seems that uninstalling this driver automatically reinstalls itself at system start-up. Launching from SmartAudio from the control panel also fails to start, most likely due to audio driver problem.Device manager is reporting that the device status is "This device is working properly." How do I get sound  to work again on the notebook?  System details:- Vista 32bit- T500- Product: 20827TG - BIOS: LENOVO 6FET70WW (3.00 ) 04/17/2009    Thank you,Philip Message Edited by philipf on 05-19-2009 07:08 PMMessage Edited by philipf on 05-19-2009 07:09 PM

More than a month ago I switched to another ISP and at the same time my desktop began to behave very strange.
- The communication was lost (can not get any IP-address. Both the modem and the router are OK - I use my laptop daily).
- The sound was lost.
- Parts of the Office-package 2003 (i.e. Word, Excel and PowerPoint) could no longer be used (Errormessages at starup).

Very strange. I've run many programs to see if the PC was infected by any malware (ESET Smart Security, a-squared Anti-Malware and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware) without problems.

I've also checked the disk (using Samsungs ES-tool) - no problem. Tried "System Reset" but got a message "System reset could not protect the computer. Please restart the computer and run "System reset" again." I tried once more but got the same message. But aside from those "problems", I can still use most of my programs that does not rely on connection with the net.

Yesterday I tried to fix the sound - and succeded! Checking on the Control panel/Sounds and Audio devices where I noted that everything was "greyed out" - i.e. no sound device (in my case "Realtek HD Audio output").Via System/Hardware/Device Manager I uninstalled the driver for "Realtek HD Audio output". After a restart - the sound was back. However, it only lasted until the PC was shut off/restarted.

After repeating that process once more I got an errormessage: "Rthdcpl. EAccessVio... Read more

I did try install XP and Win7 but the audio driver still not working. Now i'm using vista, hope u guys can help me work out this problem to save my lap. Thanks in advance!!!

Answer:REALTEK AUDIO DRIVER problem

Hi

What service pack are you at with Vista? and are you using a 32bit or 64bit version of Windows Vista?

What you may need to do is to check Device Manager and look for any items with yellow ! marks by them, if you have any then do let us know which.

Its likely that you may need to install the Chipset driver HERE then reboot then try the audio driver HERE and reboot and test Audio.

If you have 64bit Windows then grab the drivers from HERE (all drivers for your model PC are here)

*you dont need the UAA driver as Vista has this built in, its only for users of Windows XP.

The sound on my PC has always worked, and as of now still works. But recently I've bought Call of Duty 4 for my PC, and the drivers I have conflict with that. No problem, I just searched for new ones. That's where the problems start.

Every single source I can find says I need Realtek Audio AC97 drivers. But those won't install. I've been to my motherboards driver download page, but that got me the old drivers. I've been to the website of the onboard soundcard ( SiS 7012 audio device ) , and that gave me the drivers. ( a12112d.zip ). The driver update programs get me A4.04 Realtek AC97 audio. When no drivers are installed, windows prompts a message stating: Insert Realtek AC97 Audio CD.

When I try to install the AC97, first it goes along fine. But when a window pops up with the Realtek logo, a progress bar and the message: Begin to install/update AC'97. I get a BSOD every time. I've tried to manually install it through device manager. But then it told me I needed ALCXWDM.sys. Fine, I directed it to the file, but at the end of the installation I get a BSOD again.
In safe mode I can finish the installation no problem. But when i reboot it immediately gives me a BSOD as soon as windows starts.
The audio drivers from the SiS website crashes just when installation starts, displaying an error with some seemingly random numbers (-536870397) and then telling me that the installation can't be completed. When i do it manually the same thi... Read more

Are you trying to install the audio driver from SIS or the one from ASUS? Sometimes manufacturers modify their drivers slightly.
Here is a link to installing and uninstalling SoundMax drivers:
http://forms.analog.com/Form_Pages/soundMAX/soundMAXSupportFAQ.html#question7
I would first uninstall the old, then run CCleaner, both the Cleaner and Registry.
http://www.majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_S...ish_d4191.html
Reboot, but don't let Windows install a driver if it tries to.

This is the XP audio driver from ASUS:

There are plenty of programs out there to tell you exactly what's on your computer. The one that I've always used was SisoftSandra. Do a search on it. Although it's not free, it'll tell you everything about your computer, including the manufacturers, the driver versions and a host of any important information you'll need to know about your computer. While you're at it, get the manufacturer of your motherboard, and go to their web site and download the drivers for your motherboard. That'll probably fix your driver problem, along with every component hooked up/installed in your computer, along with names and other important information.Hope that help!WalkmanOne Man's Opinion

taking a shot in the dark, but if the card has hdmi output, it will also have audio output as well, as hdmi has audio and video in the same cable...could be that your motherboard audio isn't hd, but now the video card is? have you used the proper drivers for the new card?

this might be a solution for you: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888111
but first i would look for an updated audio driver from the motherboard manufacturer's site.

I've updated my video card driver but I can't figure out where to go to download a driver update for my "Intel(r) Integrated Audio" soundcard. That's what DXDiag told me was my card anyways. I've included the DXDiag log and a HiJack This log in case those will be helpful.
