So I was in this website ( for working purposes and whenever I get a chat request there's a sound and somehow my computer stopped with the sounds. I restarted the computer and there was a mute symbol in the audio, and I got really surprised when I tried to unmute it and got a message like "there is no audio installed" . I went to the system settings and saw that 2 icons - Intel High Definition DSP and Intel High definition display audio had a yellow mark. I went to Lenovo's website and downloaded the driver and it didn't work. Then I found some instructions on microsoft's website. It worked but then I had to use the site again and... Not working! I made it work again but now there's a delay. Sometimes there's no delay on the sound and sometimes there's about 5 sec. Please, help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Answer:Nvidia HD audio and Microsoft hd audio Driver problem

Hi tice1231

Could you possibly tell us the exact Video card you are using. Maker and Model?

Is this the correct one? zotac synergy edition 4gb GT630? 650?

I see you have your own soundblaster Audio card? Does the motherboard have onboard sound card? If so, try disabling the onboard sound in the BIOS. See if that helps.

Hi all,I have a problem with audio driver for SoundMax Integrated HD Audio on my T60. I've recently upgraded from Win XP to Windows 8 and tried a bunch of different audio drivers with no luck. The last one is issued by Lenovo (x64). With all the drivers I've tried, playing any music or video file jams from time to time. I don't know any better way to describe it - once every 5-10 minutes it's like it hangs for a second. It crunches and than plays on. It's so **bleep** annoying I'm seriously considering going back to Win XP. Please help!

Answer:Problem with audio driver for SoundMax HD Audio and Windows 8

Hi, babalku
Have you made sure that all the other drivers for your system are up to date? Unfortunately, there is not an update available for every device, but those that are available should be downloaded first to maximize compatbility with all devices. All drivers available for your system can be found here. The results can also be filtered by device and operating system using the dropdown menus at the top of the page.
Best of luck, and let me know how it goes

Answer:Eepc 4g driver installing problem..cannot install realtek audio device driver

Post a make and model # if your PC is manufactured (Dell, Gateway, HP, etc.)

Use Everest to get a report of your system?s hardware, OS, and drivers. Upload the report as an attachment
When Everest is done scanning, click "Report" at the top of the Everest window, click next to get to "Report Profile", select "Hardware related pages", click next, select "Plain Text", click "Finish". Then when it is done processing, click "Save To File". Save it where you want to. (I would use Desktop.)
Click "Go Advanced" in the MG reply box, scroll down a little way until you see "Manage Attachments", click it, browse to your file, click "Upload", and close the window. Then submit the post. You may have to also type something in the reply box, like, "Here's my report.", so that it will submit.

(Before I begin, yes I did read other people's threads based on problems similiar to mine but it did not help.)

I have an Intel Desktop Motherboard DQ35JO and have gone to the official Intel website to download and install the updated BIOS and drivers needed for my motherboard. My OS is XP Professional Service Pack 3.

Every driver installs fine except the High Def Audio Realtek driver. I've done so many things and I still cannot get the the problem fixed. Not to mention, my Device Manager keeps popping up telling me that it cannot find nor install the "PCI Driver" hardware.

Can anyone help? I've done so much and I still have no sound and no sound driver. Odd thing is, sound worked really fine before on another hard drive of mine that had XP Professional Service Pack 3 installed (which has gone to crap because certain startup files were missing (vgaoem.something)). But on this new hard drive that I recently bought AND installed XP Professional Service Pack 3 on, the sound driver is not installing or updating correctly.

Answer:PCI Driver/Realtek Audio Driver problem

Never mind.

The information in this thread helped me out. It didnt work the first time around, but I tried it out another time and it worked completely.

Thank you musksnipe.

Moved your post to a seperate thread of its own and its always wise to have a dedicated thread to your issue as it maybe different to the original posters one.

However you have no report attached to your post or a description of exactly what you issue is, is it the same as the title of the other thread as in Can't find audio driver for intel 82801db ich4 - ac'97 audio controller driver or different?

Please do give us the name of your PC if a OEM one from HP, DELL etc or the name of the motherboard? This app will help and once installed and run click Computer > Summary

I have an Acer Aspire 5315 with Windows Vista. Around two weeks ago my computer started saying that there is no audio device installed. I went to Acer's website and downloaded the Realtek sound download for my model and operating system. When I ran it, it said "no drivers found" or "no driveres supported" (I'm sorry I can't remember which). So I deleted the file and downloaded it again and all it did was open the file and display the contents instead of running it automatically. Also, when I go to the control panel and look under sound it still tells me there is no audio device installed.

I don't know much about drivers. Honestly, I don't really know what a driver is or does. I've just been going on answers other people with "no audio device installed" questions have gotten. Can somebody please help me?

Answer:Problem with Audio Driver "No audio device installed"

Mel: When the file displayed its contents, did you look to see if there was a "Setup.exe" file?
If there is one, double click it and it should load the drivers.
Also, look in Device Manager for any yellow ? marks.

Hi all,

I own an ASUS A5E laptop. Yesterday I decided to install a fresh copy of Windows XP Pro SP2 on my system, as it had slowed down quite a bit and was due for an overhaul.

I completed the installation successfully and then went to install the ASUS drivers. I downloaded these from the ASUS website. All of the drivers installed fine except one (version number given here is as per the ASUS support website):

HDAUDIO SoftV92 Data Fax Modem with SmartCP driver for WinXP V7.17.00

This I believe is a modem driver that I require. I know last time when I reinstalled windows I skipped this one cause I thought I didn't need the modem but it turns out that my audio doesn't work without it. So my dad figured that out and installed it on my machine and presto everything worked fine.

Anyway when I try and install this driver now it goes through the whole installation procedure and finishes simply with a "FAILURE" message at the end. There's no error code or any such thing that I can discern.

Anyhow, thinking that it might be because I didn't use the original drivers, I had my brother make a disk image of my original ASUS driver cd which is at home, and send it to me. I extracted the disk image fine and then reinstalled windows again and installed all the drivers from the disk image.

The problem persists though: I can install all of the drivers fine except the modem one.

I then tried different combinations of chronology in which I installed ... Read more

I have a Compaq Presario 2100 laptop and am trying to run the Boston Acoustics Digital BA735 series speakers. The audio driver is a Conexant AC-Link Audio Driver version The sound wont play if I have the Boston speakers plugged in but it works if I use the crappy hardwired speakers in the laptop. I've tried updating the drivers several times with no luck. Do I need a different sound driver or are these speakers not compatible with my comp ??

Answer:possible audio driver problem

i don't think its a matter of them being compatable. don't take this the wrong way, are you sure you haven't plugged them into say a microphone jack rather than a speaker jack? perhaps the speaker jack is broken. could you try some headphones or another set of speakers using the speaker jack?

It always seems to happen that when I think I'll do the right thing and update my windows through the Windows Update, I end up screwing something
I cannot hear audio out of my speakers in the programs I am running
The Sounds and Audio Devices Control Panel tells me that there is no device for any of the options
I cannot listen to music through MediaMonkey
and I am unable to hear sound through VLC

the only time I am able to get sound to play is when I go into "dxdiag"
->Music tab
->Test Direct Music using the Conexant AMC Audio
-> a funny little diddy plays through my speakers

I don't know what has happened
I tried to roll back the driver
I tried to update the driver
I downloaded a BIOS flash, but I don't want to get into that if I don't have to, as I am never sure I got the right one

all I want is sound!
any help or clarification will be quickly appreciated

Hello. I have been dealing with audio problems recently. I found many solutions in the internet but the problem randomly occurs. I tried forcing the driver install, etc but it just won't get fixed. I have read that forcing the default HD driver that Windows offers gave them the solution but for me, sometimes it works and after a restart or after my computer wakes up from sleep, there it is again, no audio. I don't know if this is already a hardware issue since my audio jack is not working anymore. Previously it works but the sound leaks, meaning, there is sound coming from the speakers and sound coming from the headphones. But now, it just does not work. If this is any help, this is the hardware ID:

I also tried installing the Windows 8.1 driver but it says that the hardware is not compatible with the driver and to think that I got it from HP's website for my laptop model, it's kinda depressing. I have been through a lot of OS reinstalls. I even got back to 8.1 and same problem. I don't know what to do anymore. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Answer:IDT Audio Driver Problem

To eliminate your audio port and related hardware as the issue, you could test a USB audio device, ie, headphones or a USB speaker, if you have access to one.

Answer:audio driver problem

Your problem may have as much to do with memory as to Sound.
I would suspend or remove your audio drivers in the device manager, then download and install new drivers. I think you need to replace the drivers to rule them out as part of the problem.
Then I would check all your sockets related to audio, because using incorrect sockets is one of the most common of all computer user problems.
Then I would go back to your Sounds and Audio Devices in the Control panel, and Restore the Default Settings.
Once you have it working in Default mode, you can re-establish the setup you prefer.

I've been trying to fix the audio driver on my custom build. The audio works fine for most programs, but for the Elgato Game Cap software I get no signal. When I go into the Device Manager under the sound, video and game controllers tab, 'VIA High Definition Audio' works fine but the 'High Definition Audio Device' has a caution sign and says the device cannot start. I've tried updating, uninstalling, reinstalling, disabling, downloading drivers from Realtek, but so far nothing has worked. I've used a couple of driver programs as well but those didn't work either.

Any help on the matter is greatly appreciated.

Particulars: Windows 7 Ultimate SP1, Intel i5 3570k cpu, Gigabyte GA-Z77 mobo.

Answer:Audio Driver Problem

In most cases (all I've seen) if its just "High Definition Audio Device that is usually a generic Windows installed driver. What video do you have? With the i5, it has built in Intel HD Video and also HDMI Audio. You should also be showing Intel HDMI Audio in the Device Manager.

More PC Spec's are needed.

It sounds like the PC sound is working OK and the issue is with the Elgato software.

I have a GA Z77X UD5H motherboard (with RealTek audio).

Still haven't solved this issue:

and was hoping someone could help, tried everything I can think of, and lots of things others have suggested, but still I have no sound.

My audio device comes up in device manager as 'Multimedia Audio Controller' but has a little "!" on it. When I try to update the drivers, it automatically installs Realtek AC97, but at the end of the installation, the computer blue-screens.

I downloaded the correct drivers for my PC (Realtek HD) from the Packard Bell website, and though the installation process finishes, nothing changes. I still have the 'Multimedia Audio Controller' with the "!" and if I go to 'Sounds and Audio Devices' it says 'No Audio Device'.

I've been without sound on my computer for months now, if you can help, please please do. Thank you.

So, a week ago I noticed that left audio channel isn't as loud as right audio channel. I tought it was the earphones because the day after, they worked normal. A balanced audio on both channels. But 2 days ago the left channel only gave about 20% of audio. It was very quiet. I tested the earphones with my phone, and they work like they should. So the laptop is the problem. Long story short, I've let my laptop to update and the left audio channel worked, but again with lower sound than the right one. I went to boost the left channel and got to 100 and left one stopped working again as I've got to 100. I have downloaded the new driver to laptop from Lenovo website (I have Lenovo g505s) and haven't installed it yet because I'm kind of lost where to install it. I installed all drivers when I installed Windows, but this is kind of a problem to me because I don't know which driver is the problematic one (I went to device manager and don't know the difference between "audio inputs and outputs" and "sound, video and game controllers").

Sorry for the long post to a probably simple solution, but these problems are always so specific with me and usual internet solutions are not useful.

Your profile says you are running Windows XP, but you are posting in the Windows 8, 8.1 forum?
When you download the driver, Laptops-and-netbooks :: Lenovo-G-Series-laptops :: Lenovo-G505s-Notebook - Lenovo Support (US) it comes down as a .exe file, just double click it or Run it and it will install to the proper place.
Try a different set of speakers, clean the pin contact.

Hi, According to your text report, your pc is a Toshiba Satellite L505D.
So the first and easiest move would be to go to Toshiba's site, they should have all the drivers for your pc.

In the 'Driver type' box, scroll down to 'Sound driver'.
Then click on 'Search'. You will see a line with 'Realtek' in it, you need to click on the small red 'down arrow', to get the file, which will be in a 'zip' form, ready to download.

I am trying to get the audio drivers on my fathers computer which is a Compaq Presario SR2014HM with windows xp on it, but it is saying I need the Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver to install the realtek sound drivers from the compaq site, I have downloaded 2 different ones from the HP site and installed them, and whenever I try to install the realtek drivers from the hp site it still says I need the Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver. Was installing a program that converts .m4b to mp3 files. During the install, something corrupted, and it said it couldnt finish. After this, I lost all sound, and my onboard sound wouldnt work. Uninstalled the driver/sound device, re-installed - still no sound. Stuck a Sound Blaster in, installed the drivers. Wont work either. Sound Blaster shows up fine in Device manager, but under Control Panel >Sound/Audio it shows No audio device.

Any tips/suggestions?

System specs are

dfi lan party ultra d
opteron 165 @ 2.9GHz
2 gigs gskill ram
20gb harddrive
ati radeon x550

edit: screenshot
Edit once again: I got to a properties page that says the driver is "enabled but not started"

edit 3rd time: might have found a fix. keep you all posted, haha.
FINAL UPDATE: Figured this out. What you need to do if you have this problem is follows:

copy C:\windows\inf\machine.inf to a temp folder
remove line 20, "ExcludeFromSelect=*"
then go install new hardware, have disk, and install 'plug and play software enumerator' with the machine.inf file in the temp directory.

And you're done.

My audio driver is just a factory one that came with my computer, Legacy I think, not too sure though. Thanks.

Hi all,

I have a BENQ Joybook S53, and after I installed W7 last night, the audio stopped working. It says that I have "no audio devices installed"...

It also happened to me last time when I rebooted my XP, but after I downloaded the audio driver everything went well. However, this time, even after I downloaded and installed the audio driver, it still says the same thing!!

I even went back to XP and copied all the files regarding to "drivers" and pasted into WINDOWS (under C drive) and some others under System32... But it still isnt working for me...
I think my audio device is "Conexant AMC 2 Channel Audio" when I checked in XP..

Thank you for your help.

Hi, yesterday I've updated to W10 anniversary. After that my PC has a lot of audio problems,  include the low too metallic. So after reading in this forum I updated the driver (sp74867), but my audio control (button F6 in keyboard) doesn't work and the volum is too low. When I restart my notebook the updated driver disappears,  with the previous one, with all the problems. I've also tried, with no success, the troubleshooting tool in Windows, but nothing. What can i do?Thanks in advice.Andrea

Recently I had a mishap with the Creative X-FI driver 7-30-2009 update, and I can no longer hear sound in Windows 7. As a result from this, most of my audio drivers/Creative X-Fi programs ended up deleted. At that point, I tried to uninstall my audio card from device manager and restart to get the original, default drivers back. However, this ended up making my card (X-Fi Titanium) unrecognized by device manager. I attempted to reinstall the 7-30 update but it ended up blue-screening my computer. I system restored, and luckily most, if not all the drivers and programs are back. Is it safe to try to reinstall the audio card via device manager again? If not, is there a better, safer way to get the sound working again?
Thanks very much in advance.

Answer:No Audio, Driver Problem

Uninstall all your Creative drivers download Guru3D - Driver Sweeper (Setup) download from clean the creative drivers, restart the computer and try installing it agian, If it blue screens agian its a hardware problem with your sound card.

My nephew plugged his usb mp3 player into my aged p300 and installed it etc. As I didnt have any drivers for it he installed a generic usb audio driver from the win98se cd. I screwed up the system. At first it didnt work at all. I've since been through safe mode, removed the device, restarted many times but the whole system is running extremely slowly.

When I double click on my computer nothing happens for about 4-5 mins. At times I have assumed that nothing will happen and restarted. Everything seems to get locked up and the only way I can close programs is with ctrl+alt+del.

I've tried using winoptimizer to clean things up but that hasnt worked either - doesnt seem to be much good full stop.

I would really appreciate some help with this.

Answer:Audio Driver Problem

Welcome to the forum, junalcazar. You forgot to mention how the sound got lost. From the title of your thread, my guess is you installed an audio codec driver that never got completed. If it were, try going back to the setup.exe of the audio driver and double click it again to complete the installation, then reboot. Hopefully you will get back the sound.  Otherwise give us more information.

Okay. So recently my brother downloaded a trojan virus on my computer by mistake.  After we rebooted the computer, we noticed that we didn't have audio.  After several attempts to find the disk that contained the driver, we ended up looking online for it.  After searching for a while I discovered the driver on Microsofts website and downloaded. This didn't fix the problem however as, for some reason, my computer does not allow me to use it still.  It says the status of the driver is "Enabled but not Functioning" and when I click settings it tells me that it "Cannot Locate Realtek AC'97 Audio Drivers. The driver file may be missing. Try installing the driver again or contact your systems administrator."  I've re-downloaded the driver multiple times now, and it hasn't worked.  Any help with this issue would be appreciated.

I recently reformatted my pc i have a hp pavilion 7862. Thing is I dont have the hp recovery disk either i lost it or the pc didn't came with it.

So I reformatted the pc with an unattended version of windows xp. Everything went right and the only problem that i encountered were that there was no drivers for audio, video or raid devices.

The video device i got the driver from NVIDIA easy.
For the audio device i downloaded Everest to scan my pc for the name of the device it came out as VIA AC97 audio so i searched and I downloaded it.

It successfully installs and the it reboots and now when i enter windows after prob 15 seconds a Blue Screen of Death comes up telling me that the driver is wrong and it tells me sysaudio.sys is causing the damage.

I already tried to solve the problem in safe mode same thing happens, running CHKDSK same thing, command prompt, vga the same. I can enter windows but it will stop working after the 15 sec.

My question is how can i remove or uninstall the driver from ubuntu or what can i do._

Answer:Problem with Audio driver

You may be able to use "last known good config" from the boot options menu, otherwise you would just re-install Windows XP again.

It's quite likely that Windows Update will have the audio driver for your system, so once you can boot again point your browser to this URL and update any drivers that it suggests :

I am getting a yellow exclamation in the Device Manager:
Microsoft UAA Function Driver for High Definition Audio - Realtek 880/860

I've got the latest update from Realtek (2.14 dated 1/09/09) but I am hesitant to install it because it might bork my sound (which seems to work fine now). I've had problems in the past on other PCs.
EDIT: I've just noticed there's a different driver here: Asus-M3A-Realtek-ALC883-Audio-Driver-6015464-WHQL.

Ok, so why am I screwing with this? Well the PC case I just bought (Coolermaster CM690) has a front panel IO that I want my headphones to use but it needs the high def audio enabled.

My system: XP SP3

Could some please walk me through the process?

you need the actual driver rather than software, double check correct driver (motherboard driver) from site, possibly uninstall what you have done already and reinstall, sometimes these work better installing from safe mode, press f8 on start up

Hi guys,

I've been having sound problems on my computer the past week. I'm usually really good with computers, but it has been updating and when it updated I had no sound after.

It is saying that there is 'No OutPut Device installed'. I'm on a Windows 7 and I think its a 64 Bit but I'm not positive. If you can help me at all it would be appreciated.

I had tried everything from attempting to install another update, to attempting to have the program fix itself. I've also tried downloading the Audio Bus on the HP website and nothing has worked. I'm worried I caused more problems then the original one. Anything you guys can help with would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello ! English is not my mother tongue so I apologize for grammatical errors. I have Lenovo z500 and I upgraded it from 8.1 to 10.Now my problem is that I can use my Dolby Home Theatre with 8.1 audio drivers but when I use this driver I can't use my microphone in games.Games freezes when I try to use it but I love Home Theatre. Also my Skype gets buggy I can't accept calls with one click and the program freezes too.To solve these problems I deleted my drivers and downloaded windows 10 drivers from realtek's site.It solved game & Skype freezing but my Home Theatre is replaced by Dolby Digital Plus.I can open it from speaker button only. There is just power button of the program which I can click to open it and changes the sound but I can't open the equalizer and the program itself. When I try to repair or reinstall Dolby by driver which is located at Realtek's folder it gives me an error. It says this driver is and the program demands .I don't want to use 8.1 because Windows 10 gives me performance boost and my PC isn't that great to play games.I have few questions about these :What should I do?How can I use Dolby Home Theatre without game & Skype freeze? How can I open Digial Plus  interface?Do I have to reinstall Win8 or 8.1?

I just installed WinXP Pro onto a new HDD with a new mobo. The entire install went fine. Before I installed the audio drivers from the disc that came with the mobo, I installed several audio codecs. I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but my audio driver isn't working. If I go to the driver window where it should normally say: This device is working properly, it says something to the effect of: error 10. I've tried unintstalling it and reinstalling, with no change. I went into BIOS and switched from AC97 to Azalia for the audio, and it was set to Enabled.

This is an MSI mobo, MS 7508 or 7085 (not sure on the model #) with C-Media Azalia CMI9880L audio codec controller.

Any idea what I've missed?

Thanks for any help!

Hello everyone,

I have recently installed a new motherboard and installed all the drivers. I installed the sound driver which are realtek high definition audio drivers. When the Realtek program is running in the bottom of the screen it is fine. That is until I start to play music and then it starts popping up all the time saying a jack has been plugged in / unplugged. It keeps doing it over and over when listening to music and it disrupts what ever I am doing on the computer.

In the end I have to just do a ctrl alt delete and end the Realtek program. The sound still works but it would be nice to have a controller for the settings running when the computer is on.

Any idea what may be causing this?
I am using a Foxconn A6VMX

More than a month ago I switched to another ISP and at the same time my desktop began to behave very strange.
- The communication was lost (can not get any IP-address. Both the modem and the router are OK - I use my laptop daily).
- The sound was lost.
- Parts of the Office-package 2003 (i.e. Word, Excel and PowerPoint) could no longer be used (Errormessages at starup).

Very strange. I've run many programs to see if the PC was infected by any malware (ESET Smart Security, a-squared Anti-Malware and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware) without problems.

I've also checked the disk (using Samsungs ES-tool) - no problem. Tried "System Reset" but got a message "System reset could not protect the computer. Please restart the computer and run "System reset" again." I tried once more but got the same message. But aside from those "problems", I can still use most of my programs that does not rely on connection with the net.

Yesterday I tried to fix the sound - and succeded! Checking on the Control panel/Sounds and Audio devices where I noted that everything was "greyed out" - i.e. no sound device (in my case "Realtek HD Audio output").Via System/Hardware/Device Manager I uninstalled the driver for "Realtek HD Audio output". After a restart - the sound was back. However, it only lasted until the PC was shut off/restarted.

taking a shot in the dark, but if the card has hdmi output, it will also have audio output as well, as hdmi has audio and video in the same cable...could be that your motherboard audio isn't hd, but now the video card is? have you used the proper drivers for the new card?

this might be a solution for you:
but first i would look for an updated audio driver from the motherboard manufacturer's site.

Suggest you post back the make & model of your computer - the exact model number should be on the bottom of your laptop or back of the computer. We`ll then have a look for you. Which operating system is it?
Even if install a new driver which doesn`t work you should be able to roll back the driver to the previous one.

I'm using acer 4920g. Two days ago i installed vista for my lap but i cannot finish installing realtek audio driver. Even though the installation is completed, the driver still cant be used. I did read over some related topics in this forum but they did not help much. I cannot see the UAA in the device manager, and i also go to the regedit software-system-update-windows-.... to delete the registry file according to some instructions in the related topics, but nothing happened. I did try install XP and Win7 but the audio driver still not working. Now i'm using vista, hope u guys can help me work out this problem to save my lap. Thanks in advance!!!

What service pack are you at with Vista? and are you using a 32bit or 64bit version of Windows Vista?

What you may need to do is to check Device Manager and look for any items with yellow ! marks by them, if you have any then do let us know which.

Its likely that you may need to install the Chipset driver HERE then reboot then try the audio driver HERE and reboot and test Audio.

If you have 64bit Windows then grab the drivers from HERE (all drivers for your model PC are here)

*you dont need the UAA driver as Vista has this built in, its only for users of Windows XP.

Okay, here's my problem:
I have a computer that has Windows 2003 Server running. Now I want to install the audio driver to it because it didn't recognize the audio driver automatically.
My sound card is an integrated SiS 7012.

Whenever I try to install the driver, it finds the driver and installs it then it says:
An error occurred in the installation of this device. The name is already in use as either a service name or a service display name.Click to expand...

I have pretty much tried alot of things, i know I am not installing corrupted drivers, as I have used these many times before and always worked (I have reinstalled Windows 2003 because of another problem it had - before the reinstallation, i had installed my audio driver sucessfully).

I think it is a poblem with some registry keys but I dare not play with it as I don't know what to do in it.

Any help will be appreciated.

I have a really annoying problem, there is no audio output on my laptop.
I have an Acer Aspire 5633 running windows vista.
I use an external usb audio device (behringer U-control) usually as i produce music.
the computer kept defaulting to the internal sound device and i accidently deleted the realtek audio device.
Now whenever i use my laptop away from my desk i have no sound at all - very irritating!!!
On the windows tray the speaker icon has a red cross over it and on playback and recording devices it says 'no audio devices installed'
I have tried getting the realtek drivers, from a couple of places (including acers website) but you complete the installation it does nothing.
I hope someone has some ideas!!

I just moved to Japan and I am working off of a used Fujitsu Lifebook that I bought at a second hand electronics shop after my US laptop decided that it was time to shuffle off the mortal coil. Getting used to a computer that doesn't speak English has taken a lot of getting used to. Not to mention the standard Japanese keyboard.

As I imagine many people have, I came to this sight searching for help with a problem. I don't know how polite this is, but I'm going to ask it here as I don't know if it is a software or hardware issue. Here Goes:

The audio on my machine (Fujitsu FMV-c8210) has died. In my divice manager, I have an "!" next to "Microsoft WINMM WDM Audio Compatibility Driver"

All attempts to fix this (remember, I can't read most of the text on my machineconfused) have either proven fruitless, or led me to Microsoft's update site where they run some sort of scan and tell me that there is nothing to update.

I understand that a common fix for such a problem is to uninstall and reinstall the driver. The problem is I have no idea where to get the driver and I'm a little scared to uninstall until I have something to reinstall (call me crazy).

Please Help Me!

Answer:WDM Audio Compatibility Driver problem

You need to find out what your audio device is. Do you have a add-on sound card or just the on board sound?
You will find it in the Device Manager then click the plussign in front of Sound, Video, Game Controllers.

From what I understand, the Microsoft WINMM WDM Audio Compatibility Driverwould only appear if your audio driver was not compatible with yoursystem.

I have two problems,

First, I have a problem installing the sony viao audio driver. I have downloaded the driver and ran it and it says that it is installed successfully but on reboot, there is no sound and also there is an exclamation mark under Realtek high definition audio and also Unimodem half-duplex audio device. I have tried uninstalling it and reinstall with no success. But when I go to the safemode, device manager, it shows that it is installed properly.

Second, I have also problem with the lexmark all in one printer. tried uninstall and reinstall with no success. same in device manager, there is a exclamation mark under lexmark x1100 series.

Tried windows system restore, did not work. Also tried sony viao driver recovery, with no success.

Any suggestions would be really great.

Answer:problem with sony audio driver

Just a couple of quick suggestions

Safe mode Device manager - remove all sound fully (you didn't say this)
Add/Remove programs - Fully remove any sound program

System BIOS - Confirm Sound is enabled (if onboard sound being used)

The Driver: Please re-confirm the driver is for Xp SP2

Lastly scan for virus/malware fully

(ok 5 suggestions)

Hey ppl .. fist i want to say that i`m not a complete n00b and that before I made this post i tried everything I could to resolve this problem !
Until October last year i was a xp user and i did not want to hear about vista until i realized that xp is just a thing of the past !
Now my problem is that everything i tried my driver settings wont remain as i make them ... I have 3 partitions , I made a clean windows install in c: , in downloaded fist the latest drivers for vista x64 from the asus homepage ( realtek driver , lan & others ) and after the install i installed the audio driver fist because it came to my knolege that if i install the video driver or other drivers fist it could interveen with the audio settings ! And it worked ... untill the first reboot ... after the reboot vista just installed his audio drivers and other drivers even if in my device manager everithing wose fine and every driver that i installed worked perfectly !!! Now ... i don`t mind that vista installs its own drivers but now my microphone and audio system won`t work and if i try to install the audio driver again the audio works but the microphone not !
I unninstalled all my devices , made a clean install of the drivers with the audio driver first , and after the reboot the same thing happened ! I even deleted the Registry entries and nothing worked !
Does anyone know how to rezolve this problem ?

This are photos from aida32 so that you can see my pc and that i have installed !

I've recently noticed that my audio drivers are not functioning as they used to before and cause my computer to restart by changing the volume control.
I'm using an Acer Veriton 1000, recently formatted and updated with recent drivers and did not have a problem then. I'm using the HIgh Definition Audio Driver Package - KB88811 and Realtek High Definition Audio Drivers (as per add/remove program tool).
I'm able to open the master volume control, but when i try to change the volume level the computer automatically switches off and restarts. After I log in i get the windows prompt 'windows has encountered a problem' and when i send the error report my internet browser opens to tell me that the cause was a blue screen error though it wasn't an actual blue screen error. I have uninstalled most of the recent programs (including windows XP SP3) yet i still get this problem.
Note: I use Realtek AC'97 Audio interface as well

For any more system information required for anyone to help me,please feel free to ask.

Thanks in advance!

i have a gateway computer that came with windows me. i installed xp home from a wndows cd. i could not turn my mic booster on and off with the new xp home, so i downnloaded drivers to update to xp from gateway for my sound card. now i get nothing but static somes from my speakers, and still cn not turn on mic boost. if i restart my computer it usually fixes the static. my question is... how do i get my old drivers back without a backup point and how do i get as much control over my sound card with xp as i had with my gateway version me?

Answer:audio driver update problem

There is alot of older hardware that will never work properly with XP because manufacturers decided not to spend money on developing new drivers. Thats most likely the case with your sound card. Try Win 2000 drivers. If that doesnt work you will need to go back to ME or get s anew sound card.

I had some issues regarding the windows booting up to a black screen issue that I think was down to my graphics card (Radeon HD 2400 XT) having issues with the resolution of my monitor (ViewSonic VA2213w). So in the end I did a format and reinstalled windows.

Once it booted up again it tried to find the drivers for various things but as my PC came pre made and pc world didn't give me any cds with it I had to get some drivers using my laptop etc etc before I could get on the net.

So having done that I managed to install the graphics card, had some issues with the black screen again but that seems to be ok having lowered the monitor resolution to 800x600 for now. Anyway in the hdevice manager there are these listed with question marks:

Audio device on high definition audio bus
PCI serial port
PCI Simple communications controller
SM Bus controller

Windows searches for drivers but says it cant find any for all of these. I've been on the Lenovo site here and downloaded the audio drivers but theres no sound still (only those beeps xp uses)

I used Aida64 and this is what it said my pc specs are:

Lenovo ThinkCentre M57p motherboard

Theres a fair few bits under audio though - windows audio, pci/pnp audio, hd audio, openal, audio and video codecs.

Under hd audio it says Intel 82801IB Ich9 hi def audio controller, analog devices AD 1882. I tried that trick of making th... Read more

Answer:Audio driver problem - Lenovo pc

Greetings, SpoonLord.

The flags for the following: "Audio device on high definition audio bus, PCI serial port, PCI Simple communications controller, SM Bus controller" indicate that you probably need a chipset driver installation.

Without knowing your Windows version and Service Pack #, I can't point you to specific files. However, if you will visit this IBM page and plug in your model # and OS version, you should be able to find the correct download(s).

Once you find the correct chipset driver, install it and make sure you reboot to finalize the installation.

So, I'm working on a HP Pavilion zx5060us that is not producing any sound from the speakers. The PC speaker appears to work fine. I can also get audio from the headphone jack, but the jack is a bit "touchy" so I think it has a bad connection.

In any event, this is where things get... interesting. I booted a Linux live CD on the system, to rule out the speakers or the audio "card" being dead, and was able to hear sound just fine. In fact, I even streamed an Internet radio station and the audio sounded wonderful. So, this tells me it's clearly a Windows driver issue.

I've downloaded and installed the latest audio drivers from HP, with no luck. I've deleted the current audio driver, a "SoundMAX Digital Audio" and let Windows re-install it, with no luck. I was going to try a BIOS update next but I wondered if that would help because the audio plays perfectly on Linux, just not on Windows.

Any other ideas on what to try to get the audio driver working properly? When the driver I have is installed, it reports the audio device is working properly and I get NO yellow question marks, meaning everything is being detected.

I hate when this happened. I have downloaded the lastest version of Nvidia Quardo 2000m driver, which is 285.62. And I have also update the BIOS to 1.33. They did not work at all. However, I did not have this problem about 2 days ago.  I had exactly same Nvidia driver at the time, only the BIOS was different which was 1.27. This morning I restored the machine back to last sunday. (which is the time everything was supposed to be okay)However, I still got this problem when I opened my PhotoShop. Then, I undo the restore back to yesterday. I assume that ThinkPad W520 series is good for graphic designing or anything like this. How come I always have this problem? Thanks.
