Question: GPU Support

I have an Alienware Aurora desktop from 2,010 that has an Alienware 4VWF2 motherboard in it. I also have 3 monitors connected to it, each with a maximum supported resolution of 2,560 pixels wide by 1,080 pixels high (no 4K here), although, I did see some similarly sized monitors to the ones that I have that are said to support the 4K resolution. (Although, since I only recently received my current monitors, it might be a while before I upgrade again. But, that might also depend on the answer to my question.) Alright, on to the question. What are the specifications of the motherboard mentioned above? I am specifically curious about its GPU support. Although, other information (e.g., CPU support) would be nice to know. I want to use a spanned desktop that utilizes the full resolution of all of my monitors. Currently, I have the desktop simply extended (not spanned through the Catalyst Control Center (or whatever Nvidia's equivalent is, as I have not dealt with Nvidia's software in a long time), as I prefer to have it) across the 3 displays. But, 2 of them are running at a resolution of only 1,920 pixels wide by 1,080 pixels high while the third runs at the full 2,560 pixels wide by 1,080 pixels high. Therefore, I am considering upgrading my GPU (also per suggestion [ https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-hardware/size-windows-to-fill-workspace/32752620-7a06-41a2-a8cb-009514d72058 ]). But, I do not know what GPU models are supported by the motherboard. I replaced the GPU fan once. But, only the fan was replaced, not the card itself. The current GPU installed is the AMD Radeon HD 5870 (the original card, but with a replaced fan, since the original fan had died).

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

Does lenovo has a plan to support  intel ac 7260 for yoga 2 13? I have read this thread.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Edge-Yoga-Flex-Laptops/Yoga-2-13-Wireless-Card-Unauthorized-Mess...Current bios(v1.15) is still not support. And Where is old bios version link about V1.09?It seems can support Lenovo-branded  ac 7260 netcard.

The only supported card on this model is Intel 7260 2x2, 802.11 BGN .and the applicable BIOS version is 96CN29WW (V1.15)

i currently have a dell Inspiron 5558 laptop for over an year now but the screen stop working over 6 months ago, i looked up the warranty information at the time of screen stopped working and was re-assured that it showed February 18, 2017 therefore i did not consider that it is very urgent to call tech support since i have other laptops. today when i call the support service, i was informed that product was not registered and i have to pay $233 to replace the LCD screen, they still argued that dell warranty website showed the correct information but when i looked it up, the website still displays the same.  did anyone else encounter this issue??

 I bought TPS230U in may2013, and one monthe ago, the laptop just turned off by itself and wont turn on anymore. I had tried troubleshoop refresh and resetting options but it doesnt work.
My warranty certificate is still valid for itnernational support (now I live in  Brazil), so that, I called Brazilīs support (My laptop ID is: Type 3347 2GU S/N xxxxxxx 13/02.
At the first time I contacted by phone, the attendant asked me to (once again) turn off the laptop  and call back again. Well, I did it, adn (of course) it didnt work. So I called once again. The second the new clerk said I should buy a cd or dvd ( which could not be via USB stick ) , download from other computer and copy  an image file  that lenovo would understand the problem . I explained that I had not cd to record that moment. But he was very rude, and told me that it the  support goes to my house and concludes that there is a software problem and not hardwa, I was supposed to pay for the visit. So, I went to a store and bought a recordable CD , recorded the ISO file and got home to insert it into the laptop and....for my surprise,  my laptop doenst have any  entry for CD ! I feel that lenovo has been really disrespectfull with me and all I want is to have a simple support to my laptop, but I still couldnt have. Pleaase let me know how can I solve this problem before my waranty term expires!!!

I have a T430s laptop and it is less than 6 months old. It starting getting blue screens within a month of purchasing it. Technical support has been helpless in trying to fix the laptop. First, tech support told me to turn update my computer daily. Then another tech support employee told me to turn OFF my auto updates. This did nothing and over a few weeks the blue screens progressively got worse. Next, tech support told me to run a diagnostic on my computer which turned up nothing. Then, they tried giving me recovery discs and a new hard drive. After that failed they took it in to replace the system board which made the blue screens worse. Then they sent me MORE recovery CDs to try to fix the problem and that also made the blue screens worse. I called tech support after this and they said they would send in a request for a replacement laptop. I was told I would hear from someone in a couple days. FIVE days later I got a called from someone asking if I wanted a replacement and I said yes. Then I was told I had to wait two more business days to get contacted about it. Another 3-4 business days later, someone called me to tell me that they would NOT be replacing the laptop despite the fact tech support could not fix the laptop. After calling tech support once again, I was told that they wanted me to send in my laptop again for up to 7 business days! This is completely unacceptable. I have just sent a thinkpad back for repair for the first time in over 20 years of owning  Thinkpad.  I have had 8 thinkpad  series laptops in my time as well as a few desktops and now lenovo phones. I am absolutely horrified with the diabolical Thinkpad support. This is meant to be business level support. I feel like I am phoning up Curry's.  Laptop sent back with hard disk in it and I am being told now that it "turned up without a hard disk in it". Now undercurrent of me lying. Original problem had not been assessed and I still don't have my laptop back after 3 weeks. Customer service agents just tell you anything they want to get you off the phone. I suppose all things come to an end but my loyalty to the Thinkpad brand is probably over now.  I am sure I am not the first. Has anyone else come across this?

We are Dell resellers and had placed an order for 43 Laptops - Dell Latitude 3560 with Dell on 13th June, 2016. We delivered them to our customer on Friday 17th June, 2016. On Monday 20th June we discovered that all the Laptops are faulty and are not functioning properly. They have not been able to use a single system due to touchpad issues in the entire lot
We have made innumerable calls Dell to resolve the problem, but the team is unable to identify and rectify the problem. 
We have spoken to our partner account manager, regional account manager, Service Specialist and Escalation Team, requesting them to provide us with a solution at the earliest as their work is getting hampered. Our customer has to deploy the same by 1st July however they do not have any Dell Laptops functioning correctly.  
How do we escalate this to the Dell management and get a replacement ASAP

Hello there, I'm interested in finding out more about the X220 - In particular the actual bandwidth available to the i7 Version of the X220 with it's USB 3 port. I'd like to be able to use the Black Magic Design Intensity Shuttle with this laptop, however it requires a Super Speed USB 3.0 Port. It's common for laptops to only use a single PCIe lane interconnect, giving the USB3 Port only 2.5gbps of available bandwidth. This won't be enough to allow that capture card to work  A similar situation also exists for the Expresscard slot - To be able to support Expresscard v2.0, It needs to provide 5gbps (2x PCIe v1 lanes). If it does this, It's possible I can buy an USB 3 Expresscard which will have enough bandwidth to use the card. In short I would like to know if the super speed USB 3 port can actually function at the intended speed, and is not crippled to half rate.

I clean installed windows 7 on my Y650. Then camera is not working, microphone is not working (even if I use external microphone, it is not working). I tried using vista driver but not working. is there any way to make them work? really frustrated ...

Started about a month ago - pops up over and over and over and over - about every five minutes or less.  I've got a Dell Studio XPS with Windows 7 Professional.  Another forum said to just uninstall Dell Support Center (Support Center Software) - but when I try to uninstall it - THE SAME STUPID WINDOW POPS UP ASKING ME TO INSERT THE SOFTWARE.  I tried doing a Browse and it's looking for DSC20.msi.  I haven't managed to find it yet.  I have at least found \Program Files(x86)\Dell Support Center but there's so many sub-directories...
I shouldn't have to be jumping through so many hoops just to uninstall a program.  This is driving me crazy and I haven't found an answer online yet.

Someone told me in another thread, and I also read here, that



All Wireless N routers support dual-band 802.11nClick to expand...

implying that any wireless N router can use the 5 GHz band as well as the 2.4 GHz band. Isn't that the implication?

Then why is it that when I browse routers, only some of them list both 2.4 and 5 GHz frequency, while others list only 2.4 in the specs? I want to switch my network over to 5 GHz in order to get away from all the interference I'm getting, as discussed in this thread.

So what's the real answer? Will any cheap "wireless N" router be able to do 5 GHz, (e.g. this one?) or do I need a more expensive dual band one?

No. The 802.11n standard supports 5GHz, but does not require it. Now if a device was 802.11ac, it will have a 5GHz radio since that standard only works on that freq.

When I installed Win8 on one computer I need a H.P. printer driver. So I went to H.P. support/download did not find the needed driver so I called their Tech. support. A friendly support guy looked at my system and told me my copy of Microsoft Win8 bought at Best Buy was not a legit copy, also my system had been infected and they needed to remove my Win8 clean my system and reinstall Win8. made me a deal of a reduced price of $250US I knew this was not right so I begged them good buy went to Best Buy where I have good friends in the Geek Squad. they got the needed driver and printer works fine.
Today my Netgear routher died, called Netgear to get my lifetime warranty. This also was a support in India guy said it would cost $39US to make sure it was the router I said thanks but no thanks. Took my old Netgear router back to Best Bye where I bought it three years ago and they gave me a new Netgear router. I needed setup help so called Netger as new user also in India guy was friendly looked at my system and helped me get it setup. Then he informed me my computer was under attack and my files were being read he could fix my system and protect my files for the small sum of just $85US. Well I was using a small backup H.P. computer on the Net. hardwired and it was almost never used. So I knew it was a India Tech. support scam again.

So I am sitting here on my MacBook Pro which in my opinion does not have any wireless issues whatsoever, it works. I still own this ThinkPad with a garbage wireless card, and I feasted my eyes on an Intel 7260 but lo and behold, it isn't on the whitelist! Scouring eBay and Amazon I did find a FRU, but would the number of that FRU be the same on the Hardware list? Lets see, well I cannot even find it. All I get are Page Not Found errors which to me is a hilarious joke of Lenovo's support. What does this mean for me? Is my X230 at a very very unnecessary end of life? Should I like, fork out £1400 for an "upgraded" model that probably won't fix most of my problems? My problems is money and saving money. Should i now look elsewhere? No, because I'd rather keep my money to actually FIX my current laptop's problems (the N2200 is a garbage card and would like to replace it with something that's up to date to todays technology but that isn't happening by the sounds of it) I am frustrated with my current laptop's problems and it's having a large effect on my studies. And possibly you can also lose customers by inadequate non-existent support and failure to give us the freedom to actually let us upgrade for those who do. For those who don't, more like.

This is a General question regarding the end of support for XP. I realise at the end date the computer should be backed up in case you have to format the disc at any time after the end of the support period.

My question is does the built in Windows back up in XP when backing up the system include the installed updates? Or is it best to use third party software to do this.

I believe Windows just backs up your personal files and won't do the entire OS. You'll need a 3rd party program to do the entire HDD.

Also you really should think about upgrading to Windows 7. Staying on XP after the end support date is not recommended as you will lose security updates from Microsoft as well as patches.

What is wrong with MS Tech Support, they say they dont support One Drive. I cannot connect to One Drive with any of my Windows phones, iPhone, or Android cell. I called tech support and they told me they are not trained to support One Drive for cell phones. I have spent lots of money on my equipment to be told they do not support it.

I have a Thinkpad T450s and it is just over a year old. It still has 3 more years of warranty. Edit: Warranty type: TPJ (This product has a four year limited warranty which includes a warranty upgrade. This product is entitled to parts and labor and is entitled to Depot service).Recently the lenovo solution center gave an critical error for the HDD (Read test failure) and I submitted an online request reporting it. Without even sending me an email or contacting me, they sent me a new part and gave me zero information about it. Apparently every other person can replace a HDD now!  I have created 3 more cases calling their tech support to send the laptop for a depo repair. Everytime the request is rejected 'at the vendor' according to the customer care. Neither the customer care people or tech support can tell me why. Every time they create a new case, tell me I will receive a depo bag nect day, and I dont receive anything, have to call depo customer care and on hold for minimum 40 minutes, only to hear that the case has been rejected they dont know why.One tech support told me now I have to send the new part back before creating a new case, otherwise it will be rejected again. but he does not know how I can send the new part back. The return label sent to me was for the faulty HDD.Can anyone help? What is the point of paying for warranty if I receive this type of service?

Some how my old friend managed to upgrade my PC from Windows XP to Windows 7 with that chipset driver CD I gave him. I don't know how he did it. I would ask him but he moved to Germany. Anyway I've heard you can run the setup with Windwos Vista compatiblity mode but I don't know if it is safe. Anyone know?
 

Answer:Motherboard support CD does not support your operating system

Download the drivers from the manufacturers website. The driver CD is likely outdated anyway.

hello to everyone!!

im working as a tech support agent for one of the biggest ISP in the US.. its a good paying job and also very challenging.. i use to troubleshoot internet connection issues for residential accounts (1 pc only) and for all other issues that i get, i browse for similar issues on the forums of this site.. well, most of them came pretty handy (esp for the security forums).. now, i got transferred to the networking department and im in a total loss!! i can do simple troubleshooting and install assists for new networking users but i really need help in issues like:
1. remote access/ port forwarding
2. invalid IP addresses on the wireless devices
3. file and printer sharing
i was browsing through all the topics but i cant find any.. if there is someone out there who can help me with this issue and give me some pointers on how i am going to do this in an easier way.. i would really appreciate any assistance..

Hey guys I have acer laptop. I got some issue with USB ports so acer service center engg came to my house and after opening the screw he said hings are broken. That's it and fix the USB ports issue and went. After 2days my laptop's back body start breaking and when I call acer support they said we are not allowed to register on hardware issue. It took a month to register one compliant . And they never bother about that. They are like it's hardware issue you have to pay.. My laptop is in warranty period and It not my mistake boz I never had issue of hing n ol. Now it's almost 3 month over still they are like we will update you in 2 days.Worst services ever I seen is acer.

I think the revamped Support Assistant is brilliant - especially for drivers where it checks your PC, rather than give you a list of driver updates for your model, as the old website-based Driver Update checker did. It has an "Add a device" facility but it doesn't find my HP DCP_J315W printer, connected via wireless. Does Support Assistant support printers? edited 08:07: typo

Dell Support "Assist" just ran without giving me an option to stop, pause, or control in anyway.  It was using nearly all computer resources (I could barely save the word document I had open at the time).  This isn't "assist" more like computer take over.

How can I control the S. "Assist"?  How can I adjust the time between it's runs (currently it looks like monthly)?  After finishing it's scan or whatever it finally closed (cuz it wouldn't close the 20 times or so I clicked the "X").  I then opened it, looking for some results of the scan, and found none.  How can I view results?

Right now, seems like worthless bloatware.

Also, there is not a [New Post] button on the Laptop Forum (at least for me).

I purchased the Lenovo brand because it offered many more features then the competitors within the price range we needed.  My son needed it for school so of course we went with the i7 processor because we were told it was the best and wanted to ensure we didn't have an outdated computer within the next few years when our other children would begin to use it.
 
Our computer is not charging and I have contacted every department I could think of and was referred to some others along the way.  I am very stressed and upset on how my problem/question is being handled.  I was hoping to get everything resolved before school starts again on Jan 3rd so my son doesn't fall behind. 
 
The history of my purchase:
 
I purchased my lenovo ideapad y560 in 2010.  Upon arrival it did not work and I had to send it back for a replacement (this order# 2FL8RF  S/N ******** was ordered 9/13/2011 shipped 9/17/2011 a return authorization generated 9/23/2011 and you received the unit back on 10/23-10/24/2011).
 
 My new one came and the start date of warranty was 10/6/2010.  A few months in I called in again for the blue system screen and was told I had to restore my computer with the restore button which I did even though I lost all of my work and applications.

So Im trying to get Win7 RC1 x64 to work on my laptop with a Radeon x700 in it and can't seem to find any working drivers or "trick" the system into using drivers. Thus I am stuck with the "default graphic card" (or whatevers its called) crap. Everything else works great on the laptop except that.

So has anyone found workarounds to this yet?

I just purchased an ACER with windows 7. It's a 64 bit machine and I need to connect it to my Minolta QMS magicolor 2200 Desklaser. My 2200 works fine with my Toshiba laptop which is running XP. I have contacted Minolta and there is no 64 bit driver planned.

Does anyone know of a 32 bit emulator that I can run under Windows 7 that will let me continue to use this wonderful printer?

There isn't any sort of emulator. You are prettymuch stuck; I've had to do a lot of research on that issue and that's just the way MS made Vista/7 x64 work. It will be nice in 10 years when most everything is 64-bit, but sure isn't now.

Have you been able to make it work by just connecting it to your Acer without trying to install drivers from the manufacturer's disk?

If you connect it to your Toshiba and set it up as a shared printer I may have a tip that will work for you. If that is something you wish to try let me know.

My query is as to the service policy. My computer has a non working keyboard, and is out of warranty.  I am willing to pay for the repair.  However the HP support staff in Hong Kong (yesterday) refused to give me even an idea of the cost of this unless I take the machine in - oh and pay a HK$700 inspection fee.  Which will not be credited against the repair cost. More annoying is the fact that the service officer - Mr Kelvin Lai refused to call me back to discuss, and refused to give a working phone number. After 3 years the machine is unusable.  But it is in better condition than the HP "support service". Never again

Its possible your system has a files missing or corrupt

Run the System File Checker

Go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

sfc /scannow ( sfc if not reconized)

This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem. You will need your Windows cd.

I have sony vaio notebook, with preinsalled win xp home.
There's a folder called support.com on my notebook and tgcmd.exe file is always active in my task manager processes.
I wanted to know, if its a kind of spy ware and some information is at risk?
Also some times I see a DNA kind of small animation running in my system tray, it disappears automatically after a few mins, it doesn't respond on left right or diouble click, but placing cursor on that icon shows "support.com protecting". Any ideas or comments?

I called tech support because my computer would not recognize my Ipod suddenly (This was at the advice of the nice folks at Apple). After 15 minutes my perfectly good computer would no longer boot. 4 1/2 hours later the tech got it to kind of boot up but now the partitions on my hard drive appear to be gone. The main partition is there which I had allocated to be 20GB. the remaining 60 GB looks like it is there but I can not access it and it doesn't show up on the drive tree. The booting thing is still a problem but I am more concerned about the data on my partitions. The tech guy had me make a registry change to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/Currentcontrolset/Control/class/4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318
It was to add upperlimits although it doesn't appear to be there now. HELP!!!! The tech said (after 4 1/2 hours) you must have a virus I can't help you anymore.

I cannot access the Help and Support section under the Start menu. I have windows XP home edition with SP2. I have never had this problem before. When i double click Help and Support nothing happens. I checked in Services in the control panel and this service is set on automatic and is running.

To reinstall Help and Support: Go to C:\Windows\inf\pchealth.inf. Right click and choose install. Have your CD handy.
Note: The folder is hidden by default. Go to Start/Run and type in: control folders. View: Show hidden files and folders and uncheck Hide extensions for known file types.

my problem is i'cant open my help and support, when i try open it i get error message (helpctr.exe error) my friend deleted it by mistake. windows came installed and i have no windows install disc.but i do have (3) quickrestore discs. when i try to use it all it does is just opens and shows some files and folders. at that point nothing happens and i don't know what to do,also i can't find backup wizard which i suspect is connected with that particular folder as a result i can't backup my files and folders even if wanted to do reinstall. will greatly appreciate any help

if you want to reinstall this is what you need to do

you need to enter into the BIOS by pressing the (F1) key several times as soon a you press the power button / keep pessing it until you get the notice that you are entering set up

now you will be looking for the boot order & setting the cd rom to be the first device

now open the cd rom & insert the first cd labled #1

then extit the bios saving your settings

now the pc will reboot and the process of restoring / reformating your pc will begin to putting it back to factory settings

(note) you will loose all data so you should save all important stuff to a cd (burn it ) or external drive

when the pc starts to reinstall to factory settings just let it do its thing / you will have to sit with it for it will ask for you to insert the #2 cd & so on thru this process

you will also need to be present to input information as this process works

but other wise let the pc do its thing and be ready when it ask for you input

if you need more advice then ask / we will be here

Ever have that problem where you have a wireless laptop and try to logon to your domain, but you get the "Domain is unavaliable" because your wireless profile hasn't been authenticated yet? I HAVE! I'm in an orginazation that has employed PEAP. Well... upon Windows logon, Windows tries to find the domain before it tries to authenticate wireless, resulting in a failed attempt.

If I had Windows Vista (eeek!) my problem would be solved because of Single-sign-On (SSO) and Pre-Logon-Connect (PLC). These tools tell Windows to authenticate wireless credentials BEFORE trying to logon to a domain.

My question is... does anyone know of third-party software or a patch that would make this avaliable on XP/2000? Or is there any way to emulate it through certificate autoenrollment or something like that?

Go to add/remove programs and uninstall any third party codec pack you could see there. Then download and install the K-lite codec pack. Go for the standard version.

If that doesn't work then uninstall/reinstall Yahoo messenger.

Working on my Father in laws' computer, and for an unknown reason, his Help and Support feature quit working. I have gone into the registry, and I find the command line there, the Helpctr.exe file is in the Windows directory where it is supposed to be, and I have gone into Services.msc and attempted to enable any possible program that may have been affecting it. Anyone have another possibility? Everything else seems to work fine, except that the Remote Assistance does not connect, but it appears to be related to this Windows Help feature that appears to be disabled.

The XP "Help & Support" Question mark after start, does not work. It may the result of a damaged registry key, as I have done system restore and find PCHealth in the registry but the "value is not set." Clicking on the Help & Support icon produces nothing; the mouse pointer simply sits there, and nothing happens. I have searched the web for various solutions, but find they either don't work or they go too deep in the registry that I am afraid to use them. I also cannot get SFC /Scannow either. If I use the XP disc, cold install, will I lose all my settings? The "services.msc" menu shows PCHealth on automatic and started. I would list the problem under "minor, but annoying," as opposed to "major and panic." Thanks for any help.

Question: Support 40 GB

In my system 40 GB Seagate harddisk is installed on which Windows XP is installed on NTFS. My bios not supports 40 GB harddisk that's why i limit the harddisk to 32 GB by jumper setting. There is any method or software which help me to supports full 40 GB without updating the bios and format the harddisk. My bios information is :--

Question: SSD support

I have a Dell Inspiron 3558 1TB HDD 
Lately maybe due 80 % usage of HDD, my laptop is
my laptop is soooooooo slow that it takes almost 2 minutes to boot
I am thinking of extending my storage by adding an SSD
BUT I even don't want to lose my data
I have browsed and I can only replace the HDD with SSD(My financial status is not so good to buy a 1 TB SSD)
suggest me a way that I can have my previous HDD and a new SSD(where I will install my os)

My friend was suggesting something about SSHD(solid-state hybrid drive) by Seagate

Answer:SSD support

You cannot add an SSD or an SSHD hybrid - you must replace the hard drive.  If you wish to retain the existing drive, you'll need to mount it in a USB external case -- and use it externally.
While a hybrid drive may be somewhat faster than a conventional hard drive, it won't come anywhere near the performance of a native solid state drive.

I own an X60s with an extended 3 year warranty purchased in the US. I have only had one previous problem.  am now in Israel and need support as my machine doesn't latch. This is a hardware problem On October 19, I called Lenovo in Israel and left a message including my model #, serial #, and local phone number. There has been no return phone call  Over the past 3 days, I have tried to communicate over the web site. Even though, I have a hardware problem the responses have been that my software warranty is 90 days. Today, I tried at least 6 times to call Lenovo in the US and was disconnected all  times. One time, I did get through to a person named Bala and was disconnected before I could finish describing my problem I paid for a 3 year extended international warranty. My machine is less than 2 years old. Why won't Lenovo honor the warranty? why won't Lenovo allow me to communcate with the people who can service me? I am most frustrated.

I'm not sure if you have done this yet; however, you may want to try IBM's Electronic Service Call for Lenovo Warranty Requests. IBM ESC Here you will be able to place and monitor hardware support requests.  Once you open a service request, you fill out all necessary information... sometimes they push everything through without calling on the phone but there have been some occassions where they will call me on the phone to get verification on the problems, etc.  They will then ship a box and lable in which you can pack your laptop and send it in for service (or they will overnight the part or send a technician if this is the warranty you have).

After XP SP2 support ends I was wondering what the situation will be for reinstalling Windows, when the original disk is SP2?Would an ISO SP3 disk created now still work in a few months (or years) time?ThanksDennis

If you were able to install from the disk before you will be able to do so in the future. Microsoft discontinuing support for an OS has nothing to do with the ability to install the product. I expect that Microsoft would eventually stop activating XP but that would be long past the support date. Since XP is still in widespread use I would not expect that anytime soon.

I just got a nice little ThinkPad R31 and I keep getting the message the usb device can run faster but there is no high speed hub or device. I know with other systems I needed to update something - in order to enable the faster speed USB operations - but I've scanned all the drivers and tried them to no avail. Yes. As long as you have a compatible slot for the card, which these days is going to be a PCIe x16 slot, then a graphics card based on either NVidia or AMD/ATI will work. You just need to ensure that you have enough space in your computer, particularly if the card you are looking at is physically large.

Alright so my current system is a

Intel Pentium Dual Core E5400 2.7GHz
Geforce 9500 GT
1 Sata
1 DVD
2 Sticks of DDR2 667MHz
I would like to Upgrade to a AMD Phenom X4 9850, with a 450W PSU, (Motherboards are practicably identical).

I already check the extreme PSU calculator but it said only about 275W which makes me a little bit skeptical. So what wold you say?

Answer:Can my PSU support it?

Under load, the Phenom uses 311 watts - 185 watts at idle. Add that to the 9500GT, and you may be over the limit.
But why do you want to "downgrade" from a 2.7GHz CPU to a 2.5GHz CPU. Don't expect too much from the 4 cores because most programs will not be using them. I am very disappointed with my quad processor. My slightly faster duo core is better.

PS: The wattage was measured by a German computer mag

What should be the minimum power supply for an intel i5 2500k and a sapphire radeon 6770? Right now I'm running a Corsair 600x power supply.

Should be plenty, assuming it's of decent build quality.

Corsair subcontracts its PSUs to other manufacturers and I don't know who makes that particular Corsair model. Corsair sometimes uses good manufacturers like Seasonic and sometimes uses middle of the road outfits like Channel Well and Flextronics.

A quick Google says that card uses a max of 108 watts--I don't know if that's accurate.

I have an i5-2500 CPU system with 3 hard drives and no video card---it never uses over 150 watts when pounded hard, including the monitor.

So, if 108 watts is accurate for the video card, you probably would never use above 300 or so. In which case a good 500 watt PSU would be fine.

Question: Need OS X support

I was given a new MacBook Pro from my wife.

I have been able to use Vista x64 by using Boot Camp. But I had to partition my Mac drive to do it. What I would like to do if possible, is to remove the partition for Vista and have an external Boot to Vista by using the bootable FireWire 800 external drive. This would free up some space on my hard drive. My problem is I'm able to designate Vista to the external FireWire drive but the Vista installer won't allow installation on the drive because it is Firewire 800. I was wondering if I could possible use a driver for the Firewire 800 controller so Vista can use it. And if this is possible is there anywhere on the net to acquire such a driver for the Vista installer.

I hope there is such a thing, I can't seem to find one.
