Hi! After moving to a new home, I'm having trouble getting a wired connection working. Same modem and router as the previous home, same PC. Different ISP, but both are Shaw cable re-packagers.

router
CISCO Linksys E900, Factory Reset, with latest firmware 1.0.06
modem
THOMPSON DCM 475

motherboard
SAPPHIRE Pure Black P67 Hydra
USB adapter
USB wifi, Dlink DWA-160
Operating system
Windows 7 64
Ethernet Adapter
Marvell Yukon 88E8057 Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller
latest driver version 11.45.4.3

I have only a PC and an android connected, occasionally and android tablet as well.

The PC can connect via wifi, if ethernet is disabled and then modem, router, PC restarted, but I can't seem to figure out a way to get the ethernet connection to work. I've tried DHCP and Static IP configurations, and I've tried connecting the ethernet directly to the modem instead of the router, but to no avail. I believe I've managed at times to access the router from the PC (only with static IP), but never the internet as well. I've tried 3 cat 5 cables as well.

Here are some pictures with more details of my config

I've been banging my head against this for 8+ hours...can anyone see what I'm missing?

Answer:Wifi Works, Ethernet doesn't (even with wifi disabled)

Question: Wifi is disabled?

I have a Lenovo laptop and I all the sudden can't connect to the internet. I downloaded Speccy to check what is my NIC so maybe I can update the driver but the only thing I see is "You are not connected to the internet". and then "Wi-Fi not enabled".
Also the Windows says that the wireless utility is not on or somthing like that.

What am I suppose to do?

On laptops there is a key combo (for dell Fn-+ F2) to turn on (enable) wifi. Look in your user manual or google what they are for your model

I have a Compaq CQ58 which I've used for about 18 months. Today I have not been able to access the Internet without using an Ethernet cable. I've done some 'troubleshooting' and this tells me that the WiFi adapter is disabled. I've been told that I must have pressed a key and inadvertently switched the wireless connection off. I've checked the start up guide and the short manual that I have but I can't find an answer to the problem there. I know about the Flight Mode key and I have checked repeatedly that this is switched off which it needs to be in order to access the Internet. Does anyone know how I can re-enable the WiFi adapter?

Answer:WIFI Adapter Disabled

Hello Petronica,Welcome to the HP Forums.I see that your wifi adapter has been disabled. I will try to help you with this.Usually if a device is "disabled", it's more then likely in the Device Manager. Go to Device manager on your Notebook, and you should see "network adapters" in the list. Click on the "+" and it will show all of your network adapters installed. You should then be able to right click on the adapter and "enable" it, or "disable" it. As your's is disabled you'd want to enable. Please let me know if this helped. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

About six months ago, I spilled a drink on my HP pavilion laptop. I immediately switched it off and entombed it in rice, when I restarted it about a day later (I would have left it longer, but I needed it for my thesis), all seemed to be well, but if I were to pick it up and walk with it, it would lose the WiFi connection, and it would say that no connections were available, when I ran the troubleshooter it said that the WiFi adapter was disabled, I ran the repair tasks and it would get a connection. If I moved the laptop again, it would lose the connection again. Sometimes the troubleshooter would find nothing wrong even if the laptop could not find WiFi networks, when this happened, the only solution would be to remove the battery, and leave the laptop alone for a few minutes, restart and try again. Is this the result of water damage? Do I need to replace a part, and if so what part? If this is not a hardware issue, how can I fix this? Thanks in AdvanceMichael

Answer:WiFi adapter disabled

please follow these steps:1. In the Run box type devmgmt.msc.2. Under Network, find out the wireless device3. Select the device, right click to access Properties.4. In the Properties window click on Details tab and select Device Instance Id  or Hardware ID from the drop down.5. An alphanumeric string like this PCI\VEN_1217&DEV_7130&SUBSYS_012F1025&REV_01\4&6B16D5B&0&33F0 is the identification marker for the device.6. Please provide this number so that we can suggest the appropriate driver which might resolve the issue.

So, I woke up this morning and realized the the wifi adapter on my ThinkPad 430 is disabled. It's been working perfectly fine for a couple years, but as of this AM it didn't work. My smart phone can connect to the wifi access point just fine. Does anyone have any idea what I can check to get it working again?

I have Windows 8.

Thanks!!

Answer:The wifi adapter is disabled

Hello ryguy,

If you have not already, check in "Network Connections" to make sure that the Wi-Fi network adapter is enabled.

Network Adapter (NIC) - Enable or Disable in Windows

In addition, double check to make sure that you have Airplane mode turned off, and Wireless devices (Wi-Fi in 8.1) turned on.

Hope this helps for now,

this is a real stumper for me. I replaced a motherboard in a laptop (n53s asus) everything went well except for when the system came up the wifi radio signal was disabled. I have uninstalled drivers, reinstalled drivers, there is 2 switches one on keyboard and one physical switch on side, there are no errors being reported. device manager is all ok. I even went as far as throwing another hdd in and doing a reinstall using the same drivers and wifi comes right up. but under the original hdd the wifi will not detect any signal. I cant figure out for the life of me what the heck could be disabled. I also checked the properties of the adapter and all is showing enabled and ok. my only guess at this point is maybe it is a registery issue. the motherboard is not an exact replacement. it is designed for a n53sn. but as I stated above, I even reloaded windows and used the current drivers and all works fine.
one other thing I forgot to mention, I also removed that wifi card and installed a differnt card and it also will not detect a signal. but again it all works fine on a fresh install on a different hdd
I am running win 7 ultimate 64. the system is an asus orignal model n53s 10gb ram gt 550m, i7 2630qm. I really hope someone can help, I dont want to try to reload and transfer all the info OUCH!!

On the advice of a friend, 4 days ago we changed the security settings on our home router/network from WPA2- Personal TKIP+AES to just AES. I then changed my Asus UL80vt-A1 wireless adapter settings (Atheros AR9285) to match (from TKIP to AES).

This was the ONLY change I made to the system.

Then the fun began.

First off a new adapter appeared in my Network connections. It is Wireless Network Connection 2- Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter. Well, that was not there before I made the changes to the security settings. Googling results indicate it is a normal part of Windows 7, it really had never been there before.

Restarting the computer the wireless adapter shows as disabled, and I have to run the network diagnostics to re-enable it. It does not matter if I do a shut down or hibernate (my preferred way of shutting down the laptop before going somewhere).

So I thought I should change the security settings back to what I had (TKIP+AES) and set my notebook to TKIP. I also did a Windows Update just in case. I ran a scan with Avast Antivirus, Microsoft Security Essential and Malware Bytes to see if something evil had gotten in, all were clean.

Now when I hibernate my laptop it takes 4-5 minutes to shutdown. When I restart it takes 4-5 minutes to restart. I am staring at the intro screen waiting for the logon to appear. Once I get logged in the wifi adapter appears connected, but the computer is acting like it is hung up until all the open programs have finished loading... Read more

Answer:Wifi is hardware disabled

For others with the same problem, here's how i solved it: There is a module called "ideapad_laptop" that prevents the wifi module to start. A good workaround is to disable that module by blacklisting it. This worked for me with Ubuntu and Xubuntu. This guy seems to have done the same thing on fedora. Make a new file for your personal blacklist$ sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/myownblacklist.conf and add an entry for the moduleblacklist ideapad_laptop reboot and you are good to go!  To only disable the module without blacklisting it, do that:sudo modprobe -r ideapad_laptop Michael

Hello; Have you got the type of wifi/bluetooth card your laptop has? Device Manager Network Adapters Make sure you have the correct driver for the card. If your card is connected via PCI, make sure its slotted in correctly, hasnt slipped out or anything stupid like that. Maybe install "Advanced system care" and see if any of the tools in that program helps you, ie driver program that comes with it.

Every time I restart or shutdown my laptop, running Win 8.1 pro, the wifi is disabled (missing from Device Manager) and the light on the keyboard that indicates wifi on/off turns orange = off. When I boot from a shutdown I am able to press the button to turn it on light shows white. However, when I press the button after a restart, the wifi will not turn on no matter what I do. In order to get it working again, I have to shutdown, boot up and again press the wifi button.

I can't for the life of me figure out why restarting completely disables the wifi so that it is not even recognized in Device Manager but shutting down and booting up, I can get it to turn on. I have the latest driver installed, and have had this issue since upgrading the laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 8. I also tried replacing the wifi card with the same model wifi adapter, and that did not solve the issue either. Any thoughts? Thanks

First,  thanks for answering all my questions I get this message when I click on "Intel My WiFi Technology: Disabled", if I open the app, and try to enable it it, it says, no adapter found. What does this mean, it makes me think I have something configured wrong, also, when I bring the machine out of sleep, it will connect to the wireless router (Netgear N 600), but not the internet. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Hello!
I don't know much about computers so I'm not sure what's going on with my laptop. For over a month my my laptop likes to disconnect from the internet all by itself. The internet connection itself is fine. My sister's laptop never looses internet nor does any other device in our house that uses WiFi. It only seems to be my laptop. Furthermore, "My Wifi Technology" always says WiFi has been disabled. I try to enable it but it still says its disabled. What's weirder is that usually my internet works fine even it claims WiFi is disabled.
I tried system restore just to see if it would help somehow, it didn't. I also scanned my computer fur viruses but nothing showed up. The only way I can connect to the internet again is by restarting my laptop. I'm wondering if I have fault hardware or something.

Hi everyone!

I have a Compaq Presario V3018CL. I use a Linksys Wireless Router to connect to my Home Network.

My problem started last night when I booted up to Windows XP only to find that I could not connect to the internet. I went to the Network Properties where all the adapters are listed and tried to disable and enable the adapter. Didn't work.

then I tried to go to the Device Manager and disabled the adapter; and then enabled it. Nothing. Rebooted the machine. And after this I couldn't find my wireless adapter listed any where. not in the device manager, nor in the properties of network neighborhood. Very strange. So i tried installing the drivers again. But again, nothing. I tried installed some utilities of HP's drivers section. Wireless utilities. They all said that your wireless card has been disabled in the device manager. Please enable it and then try again. Well I can't find it anymore in the device manager. I have tried reinstalling the drivers and everything but nothing. System restore didn't help. And I can't connect to the internet as well. Is there any way to bring the wireless card to show up in the device manager to enable it? Any way in the registry? Any help would be great at this point. Thanks.

Tim.

Answer:Solved: Windows XP WiFi -Disabled - Need Help

Thanks for the help guys,

I have figured out what the problem was and the solution. The thing to remember is that you can disable it in Windows and at the hardware level. The tricky part is to re-enable it if you can't find it in the device manager. Keep all troubleshooting options open. Pay close attention to detail. And you'll find the solution. Good luck.

My wifi adapter keeps disappearing. I can be online, and all of a sudden it will turn off and I'm not able to reconnect. It's not listed in the device manager, so I can't enable it or try to update the drivers. If I go to Intel or HP and try to download drivers, they won't give me the option to download drivers for the wifi adpater because as far as the system can see, I don't have one. If I completely reset the PC, it will work for a limited time. I don't really want to have to wipe my computer constantly. When it was working, I changed the adapter settings so that it would not turn off on low power, and I also turned off Windows disabling it to save power. I ran a reset around 9pm last night, had wifi for about 24 hours and lost it again. It said disabled, but when I clicked enable it would not turn back on. Now it has disappeared from device manager / settings. I'm not techy but can follow instructions if given them.

Hi for some reason my wifi is not working. I disabled it before turning off my laptop and just turned it back on after a month and it stop working. I tried the F12 or the wireless assistant and it says disable but I am unable to enable back. The wireless button at the top of the right side is not lighted up and the volume and play buttons on there do not work either. I have also tried the hard reset which I follow all the steps of turning off, took the battery and plug out, press the power button for 30 secs and turn it back on with the plug only and it did not work. Is there something I might have done wrong or disabled without knowing? Or is there another way of doing this? Please help. thanks

Hello all, Just posting this in case anyone finds it useful. I've got Win 7 Ultimate (installed as an upgrade to the Lenovo supplied Vista Business) on my X200 Tablet and I've had a lot of problems with wifi being disabled (ie no green light on).  In the Lenovo Fn-F5 app wifi isn't even mentioned (neither is Mobile Broadband, I only see Bluetooth).  Half the time when I boot the wifi light is on, half the time it isn't.  Many hours of googling produced nothing useful. Then I discovered the Windows Mobility Center (win key + X).  From here I turn on wifi.  Marvellous... HTHSteve

The wifi has always been a dodgy but today it became disabled and I can't enable it again. Kind of like it thinks there's a hardware switch. The wifi has a red cross like it's been turned off. Clicking on it allows me to turn on airplane mode but wi-fi is disabled. F9 doesn't turn it on and if you go to the Windows 10 settings to try this the slider control immediately turns itself off again. Worse if I check the bios/uefi the Wireless Lan Radio setting is disabled and it's greyed out so I can't enable it again. Tried updating the bios, and reinstalling Lenovo power management, hotkeys, settings dependency. All to no avail.Looks fine in device manager:1x1 11b/g/n Wireless LAN PCI Express Half Mini Card Adapterand I can disable/enable it, but it's still turned off. The wifi has always been patchy and tends to drop out then reconnect, so I'm wondering if it's a hardware problem that a new card would fix.  Any suggestions?  Update: Tried Ubuntu - Wifi is disabled by hardware switch. Not surprising if it's disabled in Bios

Hi all. About a week ago my laptop, HP DV6 6024TX, started playing up. Windows cannot find the Wifi, ethernet, USB or sound card. They appear in device manager but that tells me the it can't install the device driver. It is missing or corrupt. When I try using the "add new hardware" wizard it just sits there doing nothing. I have tried running AVG and Avast virus killers, Malwarebytes, Ccleaner and a few other programs. They found a few adware and Trojans and cleaned them. I thought it might have been a hardware issue but I tried the HDD in another laptop and that had the same problem. Can some one please give me an idea of where to go next.

The device manager shows the wireless active and OK and the driver is supposedlly good. It is Intel dual band Wireless AC 7265 with driver 19.1.0.4. The wireless device shows up on CONTROL PANEL>NETWORK AND INTERNET>NETWORK CONNECTIONS window, but is disabled, and will not enabled when commanded.

So, I got home tonight after work, was going to play some Diablo 3, than noticed my laptop would not connect to the internet. I am currently using an ethernet cable... The Wifi light is off on my laptop... I use the key on the keyboard to try and enable it, with no success. I try to manual enable it, through network and sharing, and no dice. Can anyone please help me?

Answer:Wifi disabled, can't manually start it.

Hi Rapth,

Are you using a wireless utility manager that manages your wireless connection? Have you tried to disable/enable your Wi-Fi adapter from Device Manager?

I don't know if this thread best suits windows 10 or windows 7 but it's occurring in windows 7 so i hope someone can help me.

Here's what happened.

I attempted to install windows 10, i black screened, tried everything people in the windows 10 fourms told me to do to fix the black screen and nothing worked. So i was able to revert back to windows 7 thankfully.

Sadly.. For some reason i wasn't getting any wifi signal from my router. figured it was my router so i reset it. Nope. after a bunch of trouble shooting and driver uninstalling and reinstalling and booting in safe mode and reinstalling my network adapter drivers, i got no result.

Things iv tried:
?Booting in safe mode and going to my device and Driver manager and uninstalling and reinstalling my network drivers.
?Uninstalling and reinstalling my network drivers & trying to find my drivers online.
?Windows Troubleshooting my wifi for any fixes -Resulted in windows finding an error with my wifi card but windows couldn't fix it.

Windows has been telling my that my Wifi card is "disabled" and if i go into my command prompt and type "ipconfig/all" i get a bunch of 'Media Disconnected' texts under wifi signals.

here are some screenshots.

I have an Omen computer. I want ot install Ubuntu as Dual Boot so i can switch from using Windows 10 to Ubuntu.Created a Windows backup in case it went wrong. As soon as I boot using a USB and Ubuntu in "try" mode (no installed), my Wi-Fi switch stops working, both for Windows 10 and Ubuntu. When I run a diagnose using Windows, i get (translated from Spanish) "Wireless functionality is deactivated".Have tried toggling the fn + F12, but that only puts me in "Airplane Mode" and back, with no results. Restored computer to my saved image and WiFi worked again; tried Ubuntu USB on try mode once more; same result, disabling wifi switch and funcionality both for Windows and Ubuntu.

Hi there, i bought a Lenovo Yoga2 13, it comes wirh a Intel Wireless N. It came with an OEM Windows 8.1.At first the Wireless worked pretty good with no problems but then it would not turn on anymore. It came after i tried to copy the partition. Solutions i already tried since:- enable wireless in bios- A whole lot of drivers- reinstall windows 8.1- installt windows 7 (a solution was described that in windows 7 it could be activatet with the hot key, sadly the hotkey software i found on lenovo could not be installed on the yoga2) But none worked, in windows 8.1 i can switch the "flightmode" but it switches only the bluetooth adapter. The Wireless adapter stays grey and cannot be switched. In the device Manager it says that the networkcontroler works fine. (it is activatet)in the network adapters it is also activatet but has a red corss. When i use the intel software it tells me "wifi on". if i switch it to off an back to on, the message says that the Hardware Switch is diabled... wich i do not have. The only solution i found and did not try was with linux, since i do not have linux:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Idea-Windows-based-Tablets-and/Wifi-is-hardware-disabled/m-p/1307405#M1... But my Problem seems to be the same, an hard block in the wifi controler. Can u help me with a windows fix? Thanks michael

Answer:Yoga2 13 Wifi hardware disabled

I'm having the same problem. Also on the Yoga2 13. When I run diagnostics from Intel PROSet/Wireless tools (link from the Network and Sharing Center - available after I installed latest Intel drivers), and it says that the "Hardware radio is OFF". The WLAN is enabled in BIOS. Where is this hardware switch?! At first, the wireless card seemed to be working. It downloaded and applied several WIndows Updates. After a few reboots, I went to configure other apps and I went into BIOS to enable Legacy boot mode (to boot from USB stick to run a backup and repartition to run other OS). At some point the wireless radio got turned off (sometime during or after the windows updaters and before/after the backup, long before I actually repartitioned), and there doesn't seem to be a physical hardware switch or Fn key combination switch to turn it back on. Windows sees the Intel Wireless-N 7260 in Device Manager, but it says that WiFi is off when trying to connect to a network (it shows as off greyed out). I did a parallel install of WIndows 8.1 with Update 1, it made no difference. I've tried different drivers (the original that shipped with the tablet, the updated one from Lenovo's site, and Intel's updated drivers) with no effect. I tried uninstalling KB 2903939, 2887595, and 2883200 (which had no effect) and then downloading on a USB key and and reinstalling them in the correct order, still no effect.

hi Mcscotty,

Welcome to the Forums.

Are you running on Windows 8.1 and did you received those Realtek updates via Windows Updates?

Things that you can try:
1. If you received the realtek updates via Windows Updates, try to uninstall them from the list of installed updates and observe.

Windows Update - Uninstall an Update

After uninstalling the update, reboot the machine and observe the Wi-Fi.

2. Perform a System Restore to undo the changes that you've made to the system.

Let me know if this works for you.

I upgraded my Win 7 Professional over 1 month ago to Win 10.
A few minor problems but suddenly yesterday the wifi went off and will not locate the router or turn back on in settings.
I have read that it is because of a conflict with VPN. I removed the VPN and reset Win 10 (losing several valuable programs in the process !!) and have also cleaned the registry but there has been no change !!!

Answer:Why has my wifi suddenly been disabled ? I have Windows 10 upgrade

You need to track down where the issue is... what networking devices show in Device Manager?
Is there a hardware switch to power off the Wifi in this laptop?

Does anyone know how to enable the wifi on a C720 when it is disabled?  Clicking the wifi icon in the system tray and in settings there is no option to enable.  Also, is there a way to diagnose the health of my wifi card? Maybe it is hardware related but no way to know.  Ethernet through a USB dongle works.  I've recovered the chromebook too thinking that it would reset all -- no luck.  Thanks for any guidance.

I realize you said you have recovered the Chromebook, but go through these steps that Google has and see if that resolves it for you. The C720 Chromebook I have here enables just by clicking on the wireless icon in settings, I do not have to click an actual enable button.

So I was using my Helix tonight and suddenly lost my internet connection. I tried to reconnect to my wireless network but after a long time it said it couldn't connect. I selected "restart" from the Power menu and it took forever for the Helix to restart, but it finally did. When it booted up it showed the network disconnected icon, but instead of the wireless icon it was showing the ethernet icon (which is funny since there's no RJ45 on the Helix). I shut it down completely but same thing on restart. I went into settings but other than Airplane mode (which was off) there was no setting to enable/disable the wifi hardware. Pressing the network key on the keyboard only brought up the networks panel. I finally went to the desktop, pulled up the "troubleshoot network connections" to even be able to "see" the wireless radio, it showed "disabled", so I righ-clicked, selected "enabled" and now  its working fine.  Anyone have any idea why this would suddenly get disabled? Thanks!

Im using a 17" Lenovo y700 ideapad laptop. Recently (maybe 4-6weeks-ish) my wifi becomes disabled wheneve it loses connection to the modem or disconnect from the modem, by:1) my modem restarts (either manual restart or due to power outage)2) after I switch off from using my iphone's hotspot. The wifi icon at the network tab is greyed out -> as if it was disabled, but clicking it does not do anything.I can fiddle with the airplane mode but that doesnt change anything. The problem does get rectify after restarting - but its a real hassle having to restart everything after a modem reboot or after using my phone's hotspot - just to get the wifi re-enabled.During this time the device is listed as 'Enabled' in device manager, and a scan does not detect a problem with the wifi card/driver. This does not occur every time, there doesnt seem to be a specific pattern to the error occuring. Anyone having the same problem? Solutions?

Hi, numerous users have reported this problem, but Lenovo has offered no help acording to google searches I have made: When the battery level goes down below around 10% the Ideapad U510 disables the wifi device. This ALWAYS happens if the computer goes into hiberntion or standby because of low battery (lower than the percentage determined in the power setup) and OFTEN happens when the battery has been under a certain percent for some minutes.   After this has happened, it is impossible to get the wigi adapter enabled again. Without a cold boot.  The wifi on/off is greyed out, and no device settings or others help. It does not help to uninstall Lenovo Power management, I have tried with all available Windows 8.1 energy management settings also.  Is anyone able to help? The problem has been known at Lenovo for over a year, but no solution from them.  Thanks!Ben

So my next door neighbor is gone for the week and he let me use his internet. And when i looked on the ip settings "by searching them up on google and logging in" i found that there were 23 devices connected to it! We live in a trailer park so this was understandable. But i wanted to get it off so i went and clicked on the wifi and clicked disable. So now im stuck with no wifi with nothing to do and no way to get it back on. Can anyone please give me a tip of getting it back on??

Answer:I accidentally completely disabled my friends wifi

If you're talking about disabling the wifi from the routers configuration panel, then you should be able to simply turn it back on again, like a light switch.

If not, try power cycling the router first, then logging back in and trying to turn the WiFi back on again.

I recently purchased a lenovo IdeaPad G780, and thus far the only problem I'm having with it is that whenever I turn on my laptop after having shut it down or put it to sleep, the WiFi is disabled, despite the fact that Windows shows that it is connected.  The only way I've found to fix this is to just Restart the laptop. So in short, I have to turn my computer on twice every time I use it in order to get on the internet.  Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this? (I've already installed the newest wireless drivers)

hi ajburr,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Your problem might be similar to this article.

Can you try to:
1. Set PCI Express Link State Power Management to OFF

2. Disable "Allow the computer to turn off the device to save power" under the Wireless Card properites in the Device Manager.

If the problem reoccurs, try to uninstall Lenovo Energy Managemenr under the Control Panel and observe the PC. If everything works ok, reinstall the latest version below:

Hey people
Here's my problem.
I use the windows 8. Accidentally i disabled my wi-fi connection (like in the picture im doing with the other connection), and since then, i wasnt able to get it able again...

Now, as you see in the same picture, the Wifi connection, as well as the bluetooth, disapeared from that folder

Now i tried to set the wifi connection again, but it doesnt work.
I went to the device manager and i saw that something was wrong with the network card (Realtek....)
I tried to active and deactive, but nothing happened.
The option 'Roll back driver' is disabled (on grey).
I restarted the pc many times and nothing...

Can you please help me? This pc is new... i bought it 2 days ago.

I don't use Wi-Fi. Never have, never will. I've disabled it in BIOS, but Windows 10 still sees the adapter and installs drivers for it and Bluetooth.

If it didn't result in the Airplane mode button showing in the Network Connections list I would probably find a way to cope with it. It seems the only way to get rid off that button is not to have Wi-Fi. My last board, an MSI X99A Tomahawk had no wi-fi at all and the button was not there.

So - If Windows rudely ignores the fact that it is disabled it in the BIOS how can I completely get rid of the Wi-fi connections and software such that it doesn't re-install after a reboot, and gets rid of the Airplane mode button?

Thanks

I have an issue I'm trying to resolve for some time now. After my laptop wakes up from a sleep state, my wifi adapter will becom disabled (which can only be resolved with a complete reboot). I'm also getting in some cases a bluescreen from Windows (where the faulting component is Netwtw04.sys) which also only happens when the computer is waking up from a sleep state. I've noticed when the wifi adapter becomes disabled I will see shortly before this an entry in the Windows Event Log that says WLAN AutoConfig detected limit connectivity, performing Reset/Recover.adapter. Here are the details of my configuration and what I've done so far to try and resolve it: HP Studio ZBook G3Windows 10 (OS Build 14393.351)BIOS 1.14 (9/7/2016)Wifi Adapter: Intel (R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260 (Driver version 19.20.0.6  9/7/2016) Here is what I've tried so far: 1. Completely reinstalled Windows 10 from scratch2. Unchecked the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" option for the adapter3. Updated all drivers and BIOS from the HP Support site for this laptop4. Stopped the Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless Zero Configuration Service and set its startup to manual I would appreciate any suggestions if anyone has seen this or knows the solution. Thank you, Bob Ward

I have tried basically everything I know how to do to fix this problem, but no matter what I do I can't enable wifi in Windows or in Linux (booted up from a liveUSB). It says that it's disabled by hardware switch, but there is no external switch for wifi, nor is there a function key combo that I can press, and I have tried all of them. I have tried rfkill to no avail (though I hear this works on the pro model). No matter what I do, the wifi controller is still hard blocked. 1) How can I fix this? Without wifi my brand new laptop is bricked and useless to me.2) Why, exactly, is it possible to set a hardware switch anyway? What purpose could this possibly fulfill when there is already a means of disabling the wifi both in the BIOS and also in software? I've looked everywhere on all the other forums and I see a variety of solutions that assume that I have linux installed and also that I have internet access, and neither one of these is the case. Is anyone out there having a similar problem or had one and fixed it? Or am I sending this thing right back to Lenovo?

Answer:Ideapad Yoga 2 13 Wifi disabled by hardware switch

Try pressing the airplane button on the laptop (what use to be F7 by default). Also, if that fails, run the following command in linux:  rfkill unblock all....or if that fails, use this: sudo rfkill unblock wifi

Hello,I'm currently using T440P Laptop, and during connecting to the internet throguh my wireless at home, the intrenet dropped in the wireless 2-3 times in a day, which cause the network connection in my laptop to stop working, and the yellow indicator of the netwwork appears then it turns to gray and without responding to any click on it to show the network connections page of Win 8.1 , anywway going to this page from control panel is showing no WIFI connections , even after my Wifi going-back to work,So I had to save\close my work and re-boot the laptop when my wifi connection gets back to work again, to make sure that the network connection appears and connected again. This course is really annoying each time I had to save all my work that takes me around 5-10 mins, then restart the machine to get back the internet connection connected again. Is there a way to restart the Wireless software or any hotfix to avoid this bug in the software.

Answer:Network disconnected\Disabled after WIFI connection stopped

Are you using driver v17.13?  If not, install it from the support link.  It's fixed many of these issues. If your wireless hangs up, you don't have to restart.  Open Device Manager, right click the adapter and Disable it.  Then Enable it.  It will come back on.  Finally, if you don't need the profiling features of the ProSet software, just uninstall it in Control Panel and let Windows manage your wireless.  ProSet is unnecessary for almost all use cases outside of an enterprise environment.

I have a new Ideapad Y530 with an Intel Wireless 5100 wifi network card. It works fine when I'm connected to AC power but when I'm on battery it loses the wireless connection after about half an hour of usage. When I check the network card it shows that it is disabled. I try to enable it but it stays disabled, I can't get it working unless I restart the computer. What I've done so far which has not fixed he problem: 1. I checked the power management settings in the device manager for the network card and have unchecked the box that says "allow computer to turn off device to save power".2. I already have uninstalled Readycomm since I had problems with it previously3. I've also set Roaming Aggressiveness to 1. Can someone direct me on how to keep the wireless network card from getting disabled when I'm on battery? Furthermore, once I lose the wireless connection due to network card getting disabled, the Windows Vista network settings are really slow to come up for me to check my network connection and settings, never had this problem with XP. System almost seems to hang for several minutes before I can get into Network and Sharing Center. Thank you.

Answer:Ideapad Y530 wireless wifi gets disabled while on battery

I think I figured this out. I disabled then uninstalled the Lenovo power management which at first seem to fix the problem but didn't. I knew it had something to do with power management so I checked my settings and it was set to Power Saver. When I changed it to Balanced the wireless network card stayed enabled and I did not lose my network connection. I checked the advanced power options for the wireless adapter in both Balanced and Power Saver modes and found that Power Saver had it set for Maximum Power Savings while Balanced had it set for Maximum Performance. The Maximum Power Saving setting is what kept disabling the wireless network card after several minutes, I changed it to the next setting Low Power Saving and my wireless remains enabled and I do not lose my network connection. So for anyone else having problems with losing their wireless connection, try checking your power management settings.

I need help! I have a Pavilion dm4 laptop with Windows 7 Home with an Intel My Wi-Fi Technology. I have a wireless printer that worked as a wireless printer until about 3 weeks ago. The Intel My Wi-Fi Technology is disabled. I go the Control Panel>Network & Internet>Intel My Wi-Fi Technology and click to open it. The window that pops up indicates that the wi-fi is disabled. It has a green button that reads "enable". When I click on that button, it will not become enabled.

I have turned off the rotor, turned off my computer and printer and rebooted everything. Nothing helps.

What can I do?

Hi I have started getting this issue, after I open my laptop from probably sleep/hibernation, it has wifi adapter disabled and I can't enable it in Windows 10 GUI, so restarting the OS solves the problem but it is annoying because it takes time and happens frequently. What do you think is the cause? Is there anyone else having the same issue? Thanks!

My device is Venue 11 pro 7140 (core m 5y71, 8g ram, 256gb ssd). Recently at the time I use my device for about 20 minutes(sometimes shorter), a exclamation mark appears on the wifi logo and in windows event viewer I recieve a lot of Netwtw04 error. The network disconnects. After powering down the device and wait a few minutes and power on, wifi seems normal. But in about 20 min the problem occurs again. The same thing happens also under ubuntu and even after I factory resetted(win 8). So I'm sure it shouldn't be the problem of drivers. I also found the problem shows up more frequently as I use the tablet more intensively.

Hey guys, This is my 2nd W530. The first one was replaced for the same issues I'm having now. My wifi is very slow and inconsistent. I'm always having to disconnect and re-connect with my router (brand new router since I thought the old one could be the issue). This has been an issue since I received my new unit. Yesterday I had a yellow exclamation mark pop up in Lenovo manager and said my network monitor WAN miniport was disabled (code 31). Since that popped up connecting to the wifi is very rare and requires a lot of effort. I'm out of ideas and considering calling Lenovo and having them take this thing back and give me a refund.  Anyone else experienced these issues? I tried windows 8 troubleshooter and it detects the issue but can't fix it. I tried updating the driver and it tells me its up to date and I tried uninstalling it and I'm unable to.

Answer:W530 Wifi issues and WAN Miniport disabled (Code 31) AHHHH!!!!!!

Hi brian1400, welcome to the forums,

sorry to hear about your experiences, any chance you could post which operating system you have installed and which wireless LAN adapter with driver version. Also it would be helpful if you could state how up-to-date your OS is.

The information will hopefully help members help you.

Hello guys, this is my first post here. I have problem last few days. It could be some sort of malware or virus which cant be detected with AVG antivirus or Ad aware. This lap top hasnt been connected online for quite a while and problems started after used my USB flash disk. After that i couldnt open Task Manager(neighter with right click on task bar - text faded, nor with ctrl-alt-delete) or regedit. Also i cant boot into safe mode (when it starts, suddenly blue screen appears for a milisecond and computer restarts). I cant start AVG system scan, it reports that "application cannot run due to an error while verifying its electronic certificate". I can run AVG guard though. There was problem with C disk (i couldnt open it with double click and i had to use "explore" ). I resolved it by deleting "autorun.ini" file thru command prompt (it was hidden file and, another problem that occured, i cant edit folder options to make hidden files visible). There is also problem with language bar which is disabled and cannot be re-enabled cause its button is faded, though i dont care much about it.

I manage to enter to Task manager and regedit using trick with gpedit.msc. In "User configuration/Administrative templates/System/Ctrl+Alt+Del options/Remove task manager", default value is"not configured". I put disabled and i can use Task manager OR regedit again, but ONLY once! After i open and close ONE of those, i cant re-open it withou... Read more

It sounds very much like a virus. If you can get on the internet google regtools.vbs that script file should get your regedit working again but don't know for how long if it is a virus.

Hello. There is seems to be an issue with airplane mode. When enabled, and using BT (Bluetooth) tray icon enable BT, it will disable airplane mode, leaving Wifi antenna disabled. At which point there is no "easy" way enable Wifi.At this point enable/disable airplane mode will not enable wifi antenna. You have to go to pc settings or adapter settings and enable it from there. Very not common sense and straight forward. Are we expecting any BIOS updates that would enable Fn + F7 to enable/disable wifi antenna as it is on older models? Thanks.

Hello,The day before yesterday I ran into problem which is rather peculiar. I was doing my own business on the laptop and decided to start watching TV Series "The Sons of Anarchy". Great show! I think I had watched around 5 minutes then suddenly the laptop made a strange noise and I could not hear any sound anymore. I though that the laptop was just tired and needed some rest, no biggies. The next day when I powered the computer the problem remained. Now I sawy that my WiFi icon next to the clock was disabled although I can still use the Internet, the icon is just in disabled mode. I cannot access program properties, windows updates, open pictures (class not registered) and probably there are other stuff too. I've tried installing and scanning with various AV programs, but all of the have failed. Maybe you guys can help me.This is my HiJackThis log file:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.4

I hope someone can help with this new problem I've encountered on my Toshiba Z835 laptop that's running on Windows 7.
Two days after installation of some Windows 7 updates, I discovered that none of the function keys on my keyboard were working (neither the FN key, nor any of the F1-F12 keys); and also the wifi function had been disabled and couldn?t be enabled/turned on. I've compiled a list of the recent update installations in case I may need to uninstall one or more items to solve the problem, but I?m hoping that some of the Windows 7 users here may have encountered the same issues and could share how they were resolved.

I should mention that I came across a thread on this forum concerning a similar situation after upgrading to Windows 10, in which several posts (including one from a Windows 7 user) reported success in turning on the disabled wifi function by running TSBWireless.exe (found here: C:\program files\TOSHIBA\Flashcards\ButtonSupport\); unhappily, however, that didn?t work in my case.

Any suggestions would be most welcome!

As a partial follow up to the previous topic UEFI Bug - m900 Tiny - NVMe SSD - PCIe AER I finally determined what was causing my NVMe drive to run at such high temperatures. It appears that ASPM is disabled in UEFI on the m900 Tiny with no visible way to enable it. This causes both NVMe and the 8260 WiFi to run much hotter than it should. The ASPM is enabled by default and working on the ThinkPad Yoga 260 which is why its temperatures are so much lower. The NVMe drive with no ASPM runs 31C hotter at idle and the 8260 WiFI runs 21C hotter. Running that hot doesn't leave much head room for the drive under actual use, and the above temperatures are after already adding a heatsink to the NVMe drive. This issue happens under both Windows 10 and Linux 4.10. I would suspect this wouldn't be too hard to fix in UEFI. Idle Temps8260 WiFi - 28C Yoga - 49C m900 TinyNVMe - 20C Yoga - 51C m900 Tiny Active State Power Management (Wikipedia)

Answer:M900 Tiny: UEFI Bug - M.2 NVMe SSD & 8260 WiFi - ASPM disabled - Much hotter temperatures (throttle)

Here's an pertinent article/test by Puget Systems of how a M.2 SSD drive will throttle under high loads and temps.
Ultra-fast drives like the Samsung 960 Pro M.2 drive are rated for absolutely amazing performance (up to 3,500 MB/s!), but one issue with these drives is that they will throttle when put under a heavy load. When that happens, the speed of the drive is greatly reduced and in a worst case situation may even end up slower than a standard SATA-based SSD.
....
Keep in mind that the throttling we saw was largely due to the controller on the M.2 drive overheating. Our testing was done with the system at idle, so if your system has a number of hot components and poor ventilation around the M.2 drive, a 960 Pro (or any M.2 NVMe drive for that matter) will likely throttle faster than what we recorded.

Hi, I have never posted before, so I am trying to do this correctly. Here is a brief description of some of the strange things happening. It all began with the error messages in IE "page cannot be displayed". Was the only computer on the wireless network having problems. Started being re-directed to websites not of my choosing. The words "windows-click" were always in the new unwanted web addresses. When I tried to use the copy and paste function to manually go to the websites the paste function was disabled. I tried to do a system restore. Could pick a date but could not initialize the program. The "next" button simply would not "push". I could click it over and over and nothing. Like it wasn't even there. Disk defrag gets an error message. Disk defrag could not start. I had to post this message from a different computer because every time I would hit the post button IE would "encounter an unexpected problem and need to close". Many times I would be at a site about removing viruses and IE would abruptly shut down and just "disappear" off the screen with no error messages or warning. I was unable to install Hijackthis from my computer directly. When I burned it to a disc and tried to install it from that I received an error message saying that the disc was corrupt. My computer has been freezing completely forcing me to hard reboot. I may be paranoid but it seems that every time I take a step to fix my computer the vi... Read more

hi, this is the tenth time i have tried to post this as my computer keeps freezing up.

The problem started when i logged onto my PC the other day. before i logged onto my user account a "googleupdate.exe" application error box appeared. when i got onto my account a black box appeared on the screen briefly aswell as a message saying something about "personalising DCOM service ( i disabled DCOM service when i seen the message"). i connected to the internet and went to google. everything was normal up until i clicked on a search result, which opened up a new tab with a completely irrelevant page such as myspace or britannia search. I then noticed that my Mcafee total protection 2009 had been disabled and would not re-open. i was not able to open any anti-malware programs, aswell as HJT. sometimes the screen will just go black, forcing me to restart. task manager and regedit are also disabled by admin ( i am the administrator). IE also tries to open on its own occasionally.

This is a neighbors pc that is really trashed. I cleaned it up less than a year ago and now it is a mess. She has a couple of teenagers so who knows what they are doing on it.

Many symptoms, including:

Bogus security warnings that tries to send them to antispywareupdates.net
Task manager disabled. I fix the registry value and it resets immediately
Cannot use run-regedit, but I can use regedit from explorer

I am logged in as Administrator in Safe Mode.

Answer:Hijack log - taskmgr disabled / bogus security warnings-redirects / regedit disabled

Problem solved and this little pc is on the road to recovery.

I used a combo of ad-aware, spybot, AVG but the trick was using SDFix first. That helped kill the bogus security warning/redirect and fixed the disabled task manager and the disabled windows explorer.

I've been searching all over the interwebs and have found several tips on how to fix the task manager and regedit, but nothing has worked so far. I CAN enable them, but they just get disabled again after a few seconds. I've had this problem for a few months now. I'm not sure how it started, because I was away at college, and then I came back to my PC being all messed up.More recently, I came back home again yesterday, and now, right-clicking folders CRASHES MY COMPUTER! What the hell! I searched Google and found a few webpages about the problem but haven't really found anything that seems... relevant. One site talks about DivX, another talks about some windows update... I dunno. I haven't really tried to fix this problem yet, but I'm sure it's unrelated to my other ones.
