PROPER was of installing an SSD?

Question: PROPER was of installing an SSD?

Can someone advise me of the 'proper' way of installing an SSD.
I've done many times now - but I'm sure I'm not doing it right!

First off.. what do I do to format and what file system do I use?
I can't remember, but Win 10 uses some new file system (I forget the name) and you ONLY have one chance to choose!
Otherwise you have to go to GREAT lengths to set back.

Once that's done, what do I do next?
I think what I've done next is through Windows disk manage assigned drives and formatted.
Then... I think I simple restore my Acronis backup.

I am missing something though - like the emergency partition with which I can go back to the original state.

I would love the 'proper instruction' set

Thanks

Answer: PROPER was of installing an SSD?

I am not really understanding your question. There is no difference between a ssd and a conventional mech drive [from win7 onward] If you are using an out of date windows operating system ie xp or whatever, then you have to partition manually and set the correct partition offset.
As long as you use win7 or later, just install; that is it.

I Just did a clean install of Windows 7 on my laptop. Once I turned it on I noticed that somethings weren't the same as they were before (not data obviously) like my screen resolution. The max screen resolution available was 1600x900, now it's 1024x768. I also noticed that the computer couldn't find any networks. That made me think that it might be a driver problem. I opened up my devices and drivers and saw several warning symbols next to them. I think they need to be updated, but I'm not really sure. Here's a screenshot of what it looks like. Please help, I can give you more information, you just need to let me know what info you need and maybe how I can get it.

Answer:Help installing proper drivers.

Hi ROBO731, Download the drivers from here Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States] ,though I could not find your model # in the list ,You can also input the service tag # (found on the bottom of your laptop) into Dells website and have them find the correct drivers for you

At the moment when you install Windows 7 it uses rather generic Microsoft drivers for chipset and other items on the motherboard. Im thinking of installing the proper Intel ones from Download Search Results but since they dont have Windows 7 drivers yet, Ill just use the Vista ones.

Im just wondering which of those drivers on that page Ill need to download for everything thats on my motherboard (DX48BT2) and any of its on board items like nic etc (I have a separate Creative sound card).

Answer:Installing proper Intel drivers

I've only ever seen fit to download the graphics drivers as all motherboard drivers work 100% (chipset/network etc.). I have noticed that i get 110% more control over my GFX if i install the Vista driver so hopefully Intel will update (although for the first time ever the pre-release WDDM 1.0 update has actually worked ).

Hi, I tried to install windows as i experienced frequent freeze. I thought it as mouse freeze. I formatted c drive leaving other drives. i formatted, i installed the windows after just erasing first. It was a kind of failure. I tried another time to reinstall after formatting. I could see some more drives allocated 1 mb other than the usual c: and E only. I reinstalled the windows, it was installing and on reboot, the computer hangs at mobo logo.I tried to power off and power on. but it would not pass it.
after replacing the cmos battery and disconnecting the hard drive, and reconnecting, the logo pass and then failed. i tried to use seagate dos tool, but it would not boot.
Now i am getting the reboot..select proper error and when i entered it repeates itself continuously .
The fix by the sevenfourm could be performed only if it finds the hard drive. My hard drive is not having any problem whatsoever. i also looked at bios and i could not find hdd in sata 0 port, as usual.
would somebody guide me..

Answer:reboot and select proper while installing windows after formattking

Always disconnect all other drives when installing windows. (just disconnect its power cable)

If the bios does not see the hard drive, then you do not have it connected properly, try again.

There is no reason to remove the battery.

Hello, I am currently building my first computer and the message appears when I try to install Windows 7 64bit Home Premium.

"reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"

I have set my DVD drive as 1st in the boot order. I have checked that it is IDE. It is plugged into a SATA 3 cable into my motherboard.

MoBo: MSI P67A-GD65 B3
DVD drive: LG 22x DVD-RW SATA GH22NS70

Is there something wrong with the DVD drive and I have to replace it or is it my cabling?

Proper backup protocol of a domain controller with DNS/DHCP/file server and active directory.

Thought of posting in Data Storage Systems, but this is more of a NetAdmin question.

mainly I want my windows install and active directory backed up. I'd hate to have to recreate it all if it went south.

I have a 136GB raid-1 for OS, and a 1.4tb raid-6 for files. OS is physically only around 40GBs of data, and the Files are only 1000GBs with user shares, and such.

10 disks total. 7 stripped in file, and 2 mirrored in os. 1 hot spare.

What's a proper way to backup the Windows Server 2003 enviroment?

Right now I come onsite early and drop the server at 3AM monday morning and image the system with Acronis. Is there a way to schedule this?

And I have windows backup, with BackupAssit backing up the files... BUT! it's a lot of files, and the backup runs about 36 hours. :/ so It's almost always running a backup on the domain controller.

What do I need to do?

I just have Lacie Quadra drives that I swap out for backups.

How Can I A: properly backup a windows server 2003 enviroment with AD roles.
and B: speed up my file backup

Answer:Proper backup of a DC with AD

I used this guide a few weeks ago to back up my domain controller:

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Thus instructions should have said right click Start and select Explore.

You don't need them now anyway. We have put a new form of HijackThis on our download link. If you download it from us, it is named hijackthis_sfx.exe which you can just run. It will automatically extract and defaults to creating and installing it like the below

C:\Program Files\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe

You will just need to rename HijackThis.exe to analyse.exe

Hi,

I have a pixelview playTV pro (bt878 rev.8e) card and tried installing WDM drivers (jnstead if VxD), but found out they r for XP only. So i uninstalled the device driver via systems->device manager -> selected the TV card device and hit remove.
now i thought 'lemme put back ma original TV card driver' so whn i re-start windows (after uninstalling the device), windows automatically is picking up 'new hardware found' and installing it as WDM media device which isnt right for it!

Q) how can i stop this happenin as i'm able to install the old driver no longer, even with the original CD. ?

many thanks

------------------
Win98SE.

Answer:TV driver not proper !!!!

Nobody else seems to be answering, so I guess I'll have a stab at it.

Go into the control panel after the machine installs the wdm drivers, highlight the devices in the device manager and choose properties, then navigate to driver details. Note the files used, then remove the devices, and delete the driver files so they won't be found again when you reboot. Also, check in the C:\windows\inf directory for any .inf files that have 878 or 848 in them and delete those files as well before you reboot.

Lastly, reboot and load the vfw drivers.

Hi all,
I put this in here because I'm going to be installing XP today.

I want to do do a full wipe of my hard drive but I forget how to do it?

I'm going from win98 to XP, so the install will be a full one. As for drivers. The XP advisor said that my Display adapters for my Hercules 3D Prophet 3 Ti 200, but of course it would it only has the 98 drivers. SO I'll do the install of XP then add the XP drivers to it once I got it up.

Thanks for the advice.
Let me know how to do the full format of my hard drive

Update your antivirus, temporarily disable your screen saver (choose None) and scan with your anti-virus set to scan All Files. Update and scan bi-monthly. Create your anti-virus' Rescue disk(s) and update them after each Windows anti-virus update.

You can scan on-line to double-check your Windows scanner at http://housecall.antivirus.com

Greetings Everyone,

I am new to this forum, and also new to using a server. I received a Dell PowerEdge 1400SC server from one of my clients (I do web sites). The OS is Windows 2000 server.

I have the following hard drives sitting on my desk:

2 - Quantum Atlas V 18 WLS SCSI Disk Drives
3 - Seagate ST373405LC SCSI Disk Drives
1 - Seagate ST373405LW Disk Drive

My question is: How do I install them the right way?

This is, I'm sure, a tall order to answer. If anyone is interested in responding, I can post the rest of my internal parts if needed. Appreciate any help offered. Thanks in advance.

jammer

Answer:Proper Installation

The "right depends" on what SCSI controllers your server has, what you think is important and what sort of work the server will be doing really.

Do you already have some drives installed in the server and Windows is running there and you only want to add your own disks?

The drives you have are an odd set.. The LW Seagate is a hotswap drive. What use is a single SCSI hotswap drive? That server doesn't even have hotswap trays. So you would need an enclosure for that single drive or get a 68-pin to SCA adapter..

Is Windows 8 a design by "marketing" or an improvement on the past?

The term "proper" here makes no sense. "proper" infers there is some standard or qualitative measurement of what a desktop is, and there is no such thing.

As such, the rest of your questions are moot.

But it refused to work.  I downloaded the driver executed it, saved and restarted (no driver). Tried again, and usied the testing and auto resetting of the driver.  Failed to install. So I remembered the original driver was 32 bit and downloaded he Windows 7 32 bit driver sp76906. It too needed to be installed and then tested and the adjustments to the driver were accepted and installed. On reboot this worked whereas SP78044 did not. The operating system: is Windows 10 Enterprise Version 1607. Perhaps this result is due to the processer which is an AMD A8 Pro-7140B R5.

i was using and ide harddrive on a machine at work. it is currently win98. i got access to a scsi controller card and and larger scsi drive. would i boot to a floppy and fdisk it just like an ide drive?

Answer:proper way to set up a scsi hd

Yes, you can fdisk and format a SCSI hard drive the same way as an IDE providing that you have installed it correctly with proper termination and ID settings. You also need to have it identified by your BIOS setup as "not installed". SCSI controllers usually come with a set of disk utilities for proper identification and low level formatting though low level formatting is usually not necessary since SCSI hard drives are pre-formatted at the factory.

How to properly set up a LAN & Required hardware?
First Question. So my friends and I are going to college this year. (Woo!! Yeah!!) We are all big Gamers. We all have PC's and Consoles which we would like to use when playing online. We're wondering what the proper way to set up a LAN would be. All of us have tried, All of us have failed. So here are the questions and what we hope to achieve.

Hardware Questions.
We have a decent server so far. The question is will it be enough? And what else do we need to purchase to properly set up the LAN?

Current Hardware:
Processor Here
Memory Here
Motherboard Here
OS Here

Questions:
Ethernet card(s) or Routers. What should we purchase? What kind and how many.

Will a 600W PSU Be enough to power everything?

The server will be set up to Monitor Traffic between Our 3 PC's and the Rest of the world. It will also be used to store our projects we work on, and possibly hosting a test site. (We're all going into Computer Networking & Technology programs and 1 of us into Web Design)

Software Questions!
If we manage to connect THROUGH the server to the outside world, Is it possible to set up the server to reject certain sites/connections? We want this to be our primary protection against unwanted things.

Other Questions!
Will file sharing be fast? We work on videos/pictures a lot, and sometimes they can get real big, 1-2+ GB and we don't have all night to send it to each other. What speeds Could I achie... Read more

Answer:Proper Lan Setup Q's.

Sounds like you all are a bit green to servers and networks. So my suggestion is to NOT setup a server as your proxy/router to the internet/outside world. You're just asking for trouble if you don't have the expertise to properly lock down the server. Placing data which is sensitive on a server with direct access to the internet is also asking for trouble.

The simplest way to provide internet connectivity and to keep your systems secure is to throw your run of the mill router in front of your devices.

Hi,

I am running Windows XP Prof.
I have a few items such as realsched and trueplay, adobe updt check, etc
that I wish to remove from the startup services. I started msconfig,
and unchecked these items from the startup services. Then clicked
on "OK" and rebooted the PC.

When the PC comes up, I get this message:
"The System Configuration Utility is currently in
Diagnostic or Selective Startup mode,
causing this message to be displayed and the
utility to run every time Windows starts.

Choose the Normal Startup mode on the General tab
to start Windows normally and undo the hcanges you
made using the System Configuration Utility."If I choose "Normal startup" it loads everything. I thought
choosing "Selective startup" should not pop up this message
nor start the unchecked items, because under "Selective
Startup" there is a check box for "Load startup Items".

I have read through a couple of tutorials for MSCONFIG but
they don't talk about this aspect. They just mention that it
is a diagnostic tool and how to uncheck services.

How do I get rid of this message from popping up everytime I restart the PC?
Any guidance will be apprecaited.

Thanks

Answer:Need help with proper use of MSCONFIG

Hi and Welcome to TSF

Place a checkmark in the box in the left bottom corner so the Selective startup will not show at every boot

Question: Proper.exe Deleted

I think I just did something really stupid. Our Director was having problems with viruses on her computer and every time upon reboot, they would get the pop up message:Cannot find C:\Windows\system32\proper.exeI would close out this popup and everything started to run fine. I looked up this application and it described it as something that will show fake security alerts:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/p....exe-20479.htmlI ran adware and spybot clean and sweeps, but the pop up would still upon reboot or logins. Press Ctrl-Alt-Del to get the Windows Task Manager to open.
Click on File, then on New Task (Run)
In the box that pops up, type "explorer.exe" (without the quotes) and press Enter.

This should restore your Desktop
If that works, backup your registry immediately!!!
Then go to Start, then to Run, then type in "regedit" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Once there, right click on an empty area of the right hand pane and select New, then select "String Value"
Type "Shell" (without the quotes) into the key that is created
Then double click on it, and enter "explorer.exe" (without the quotes) in the Data Value field - and click OK to save the changes.
Reboot and your desktop should open up normally.

Let us know if the error message comes back - there's another way to remove it.

Hey guys,

Iv recently been having loads of problems with my PC which resulted in a full format of my computer... even then i was having problems as i found out that one of my sticks of ram had burned...

However, upon removing the stick of ram, i found that a lot of issues were resolved besides a few.

I managed to install windows onto my system and have started to install drivers for various things. However, i am currently struggling to install my sound and Lan drivers... (at the moment i can live without the sound drivers, but i really need to install the Lan drivers to recover my internet connection)

I have the driver disk that came with the motherboard but when i try to install the drivers from it, i get the message "can not find proper NIC, click ok to exit program." and that is as far as i can get with it. I have looked on various driver websites for updated drivers etc.. however, i seem to have the same problem with these...

The motherboard is an XFX KT400-ALH

Does anybody know what the problem with this could be? anybody got any suggestions that i could try? thanks for any help in advance...

Answer:Cannot find proper NIC

go to your Device Manager and locate the nic.
make sure it is enabled and if possible, attempt to update the DRIVER.

you'll need the CD and to show the utility where to search, eg: d:\

Hello all,

I've always had this problem with my internet and now its gotten to a point where I have to solve it. The problem is, whenever I'm recieving a file off of mIRC and the speeds are in the 200 hundreds kbs Im fine. However, when the speeds increase to an abnormal constant rate of 450 kbs (which I have no problem with obviously, its awsome) and I get all excited.... the connection gets cut and I get the error:

Closing Connection: Unable to transfer data (Connection reset by peer)

I have an ASUS SLI DELUXE motherboard and am using the onboard NIC. Are there any reasons for this? I have this feeling that somehow I'm capping my download speeds?

Any support is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

OK. So basically, I 'had' a program before where you could change the format of a vid file to a different format. Example...my friend is sending me some vids that are save into some kind of Apple software format. I want to make it a .WMV format. I had a program that changed this for me. But I can't remember the proper term for it. So now I can't google it and find a download lol. See my problem? It's at the tip of my tongue...but I just can't seem to remember the proper term for this for the life of me. Does anyone here know what I'm talking about? LOL

Morning all, I have a little annoyance and was wondering if anyone on here could provide a good solution.I have got a 2100 XP with 512 DDR which has got a 60GB hard drive and soon to be installed 120GB hard drive both running at 7,200RPM. The problem I have got is how do I successfully set these 2 drives up to suit my way of working. I am finding that I have to reboot and reinstall my OS all the time because I just get it so cluttered up I don't know where anything is!I have got windows 2000 pro which I am sticking with as it is the best for my means. I just don't like XP but I wouldn't mind playing with it I suppose. Once solution I had was to partition the 60GB drive into 3 x 20GB partitions and have win2k on one, xp on the other and the third one for backups via Norton Ghost and then I have 120GB for storage. What do you lot suggest? Anyone in a similar position?

Answer:The best way to go about proper storage

I have a 60Gb main drive and a 20 Gb Secondary. The main drive has my Windows XP installation on it.The secondary is partitioned into two other drives.1 x 2Gb for the Swap File1 x 18Gb for BackupsThe 18Gb Drive has folder like Utilities - which contains copies for programs i use and have downloaded of the net (legally), Drivers - which contains all my drivers for my hardware, Backup - where a program called EZBack-it-up 1.2 click here has been set up to copy My Documents and various other settings to, Patches - which contains software patches i have used, Windows XP CD - copy of my Windows XP CD etc etcBut then again i'm really fussy on how i store stuff on my PC. If i need a program then i know exactly where its going to be....

I use a backup system (Retrospect) that includes an Emergency Recovery CD based on Win 7 PE. And it does work. One usage is to replace a completely failed hard drive. In my case, I want to replace a hard drive with an SSD in the same system.

Can I use the Win 7 PE to initialize and format the SSD and respect the 4K alignment requirement for SSD? Or should I be using a different tool?

Answer:Does a Win 7 PE do proper alignment for SSD?

An initial format should work fine. You'll need other tools if you ever copy a partition from HDD to SSD.

The fan in my T30 suddenly started to make noise.  I removed it and found that the stator assembly, which is pressed into the aluminum case, had become loose.  I bonded it back in uisng Loctite 603 (available from McMaster Carr) and it held properly.  I applied 5VDC to the red and black wires, and the fan worked fine on the bench.  It drew about 300mA, which agrees with the label on the fan.I reinstalled the fan with appropriate thermal grease on the CPU.  Upon startup the fan runs for a very short while and then shuts off.   I seem to remember the fan running all the time at a low level, and sometimes going into "high gear" when the computer got hot.  Is my recollection wrong ?  Does the fan only come on at elevated CPU temperatures?  I do not get any "fan error" message.  I have not run the laptop for an extended period to see if the fan come on for fear of causing damage.  Words of wisdom?TIA,Dan

Hi there,

Till now, my method of backing up files on my computer or external hard drive was to make copies of each file and save it to a DVD or another external hard drive destination. I know this is a primitive way of doing it and, as I am new to any "proper" methods there may be out there, I really want to learn. What programs are used to do this? What is the best, most efficient and successful software for this? I don't mind paying the cash - I'm a music producer and want to secure my data! Can anyone offer some programs and/or useful tips?

I'd appreciate it much.

Hi,

My brother's computer had an apparently catastrophic failure last night. He turned it on after our geriatric technoamish father forced a hard shut down (Dad didn't know that it wasn't interchangeable with a proper shut down procedure, apparently) and...well, this exact pattern of errors occurred:

Remove Smart Defragmenter (Uninstall Guide)

My brother was panicking pretty hard over the fact that all of his data seemed to have vanished into thin air, so we ended up taking his hard drive out of the tower and plugging it into another computer via USB docking station to check that all the files were still on there. (They were.)

Here's where the real problem starts: now that we've put his hard drive back in his tower, it won't boot at all. We power it on, but the monitor goes immediately to sleep and nothing happens.

We didn't discover that the original error was a virus-related problem until I was Googling what he could remember of the error messages he'd gotten and found the page linked above.

The computer in question is an eMachines ET1331G-03W with an ECS MCP61PM-GM motherboard, AMD Athlon II X2 235e Dual-Core processor, running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Heather

Guys, i would really appreciate your help

Im a newbie with windows and i have recently purchased a windows 10 connect tablet. When i got into the display settings all my resolution options are greyed out and i can't change anything.

I connected the tablet to my hdtv which has an output resolution of 1920x1080 according to the net. The options then become available in the display settings where i can change the resolution but the max i can get is 1280x800 therefore i get black borders around the image.

Sorry for my ignorance but I have read all the above and i still can't understand it. i had an intel device driver there but changed it to basic display in device manager. now when i go to switch back to intel its no longer in the list in device manager. Will other drivers work on this tablet?

In a nutshell i just want to get 1920x1080 resolution on my windows 10 connect tablet so that when i plug into my tv there are no borders. If the display resolutions match then it fits right? Tried the nvidia app but can't find devices.

Sorry again but I am at a loss and all the technical jargon above overwhelms me !

Thanks in advance

Answer:Can't set proper resolution

To start, you'll have to reinstall the Intel driver for the graphics. The basic version is just that, only good enough for basic usage of the machine. Other drivers probably won't work, have to be for the specific adapter. If can't find on the machine maker's site will usually have to do a Factory Restore.

I am having a bad run of failing to boot HDs.

After trying to repair the spare Sata W.Digital HD it will again NOT Boot on its own, but boots with a boot floppy program called "fixntldr.exe" I found here:-

Simple "ntldr is missing" fix with boot floppy, CD-R, or USB flash

Somehow I blew it & ended up with 2 Wins XP, as shown below in HD Manager, one in E primary & another in J logical shown in image below.

Can I delete the J logical partition?.

Can anybody see a way of getting this HD to boot on its own.

If I go in Safe Mode is there anything I can do to change things.

Answer:Another HD not booting proper

Is BIOS correctly identifying the hard drive?

Is the hard drive from this machine previously, or from another one with a XP install?

We really need to know more information about whether it worked before, what you did to it, and how this all happened if possible please.

I thought I had done my homework, when I ordered a new drive to burn CD's. Guess not, what I got is a ROM Reader-IDE. I want a new drive that plays CD-R, CD-RW, and burns. So, what do I look for? I have a separate DVD drive. Thanks so much.

Answer:What is the proper name for a CD Burner

If you want a drive that burns and reads CDs, you want a CD-RW drive. They're not common nowadays though, they have been replaced by DVD drives.Any DVD burner will also burn CDs, and most DVD reader drives will also burn CDs.Check in the specification of any drive to see what it will record or write to, and what it will read from.Hope this helps.

I sent it back to Acer once again, only this time they've sent it back and done NOTHING to it! Said they can't find any faults, now, I know this is complete bull because it's still broken.
Now, I'm dead confused because I don't know what to do. If Acer can't fix my laptop, what do I do? I've been without it for ages now, and it's starting to become a real pest. Hi,
I'm using a HP laptop connected to a HP cable management system, and I'm running Vista Home Premium. When I boot up the pc while it's connected to the cable management system, my \Public\Desktop appears. However, when I boot it up while it's disconnected from the cable management system, my C:\Users\<user_name>\Desktop appears. Why does a different desktop appear when I'm disconnected from the cable management system, and how do I configure things so that \Public\Desktop appears no matter what?
Similarly, when the PC is disconnected from the cable management system, emails are not automatically appearing in the (Outlook) Inbox after they get downloaded from the server. The emails are actually downloaded, but don't appear in the Inbox until I first display Calendar, Task, Contacts or Notes, and then display the Inbox.
Can anyone explain this for me?
Thanks,

I can't help but think a lot of people may write it really won't make a difference but I'm sure one is standard, there's got to be a logic to this and that's what I'm aiming for.

In case my quick write-up isn't clear, the switches are distanced apart by walls that can be drilled through but that will take several days of crawlspace work and sheet metal drilling.

Thank you, all.

Answer:Please advise me on the proper LAN config herein

I'm going to start with ABC. In my opinion, A is correct. It seems closest to the Cisco Hierarchical Model. Your managed switch is acting as the distribution layer, and your dumb switch and POE switch are the access layer. Your Router pretty much acts as the Core layer. If you really want to go by the book, your distribution and core layers should have redundant devices if it's within budget.

Now D: If you want LACP, I would do model A with however many 1Gb connections between each device.
Do you plan on doing any VLANs?

What is the proper method for powering down and external USB HD with Windows XP Pro?  Is it ok to power down the main computer, then turn off the external USB HD? or Should I always use the Unplug/eject wizard to first disconnect the USB HD, then turn it off?Is it ok to have the USB hd connected via USB when the main computer is first turned on?

Answer:Proper way to power down external USB HD

Using the Unplug/Eject wizard is the preferred method for disconnecting USB devices.  This allows Windows time to properly shutdown and disconnect the device, and ensures that all read and write processes have been completed properly.  To use the wizard, look for an icon in your task bar that resembles a green arrow.  Right click the icon and choose to disconnect a device.  Select the device you wish to disconnect (a HDD in your case) and select disconnect.  A Note: if the icon is not in your system tray, you probably don't have a USB device plugged in and operational.

2. we have a mail server.. so the mail would be mail.trpress.com for instance
this machine's name is ETP...

3. what should our name servers be on our citrix dns server?
etp.tpress.com ...

citrix.tpress.com

?

we currently have them pointing to tmk.tpress.com an old server that hosted email, web and dns all in one! so any ideas?

Answer:proper name server help asap (NS) in dns

Unless your new email server is also doing DNS, you need to set it to itself. It can resolve it's own queries. It should have forwarders set up (if needed) to resolve domains it is not authoritative to (this is in DNS that is, not any kind of client setting). Hope that's not too confusing.

OK, I just went to Fry's earlier to replace my rather crappy original "Hynix-brand" PC2-5300U 1Rx8 512MB x 2 RAM memory (not sure about the Mhz speed) that came the Dell Dimension E521 PC with the AMD 64 (x2). It's the cheapest RAM they have and the "tech-guys" there have no idea what those numbers and letters mean at all. They actually got me a notebook memory at first. : (

how can i overclock my cpu on the mobo setup? when i go there, it is grayed out. or maybe set to automatic. the manual says it's do-able, but i haven't figured it out yet. any ideas?

Answer:proper temperature for pentium 4 - 2.66 ghz?

I'm used to seeing the temps in C but that doesn't sound hot at all. My PC has a 3.0GHz P4 that idles at around 45C and maxes out at 60C under load.

OC settings would be in the BIOS, you may need to switch the auto configuration to manual. It should be covererd in the documentation.

I'm on a iPhone please bare the spelling mistakes.

Current Situation - I have reset my bios after a crash and tried to reinstall my xp oem, but I can't get past the validation key code, because I couldn't find it, I phoned ms customer support and the lady told me to phone hp or Dell about it, but my pc was custom built 3-4 years ago, so I can't get a product key.

So I've been talking with my friend and he says that he can send me a program or link to torrent file to download program to remove the verification, so I bought a flash drive and I'm going to talk with him later about

So What Should I Do? (i have a 4gb flash drive that isn't formatted btw)

- I'm considering just downloading a cracked xp off a bit torrent site, so I don't have to deal with useless piracy prevention activation garbage. I don't care that I will lose my files do to them being redownloadable & transferable from steam & my iPod classic

- I know hard forum doesn't condone piracy but I was considering pirating 7, is it a better running os, I just don't want to experience more crap

- Should I just go with my friend and try the verification remover, has anyone tried this before

Also - I've never used a flash drive before would it be okay to put a os and driverson the same drive, do they need to be partitioned or in seperate folders

Thanks for reading till the end

Answer:What should I do? (to detailed for Proper title)

uhh... yeah... might want to remove the xp crack part and the part about pirating Win7.
those are not discussions for [H]

Hello all,
I'm on a Seagate Momentus XT with my current installation of 8.1. This is my second drive, same model, and I've had multiple problems over the past two years, especially with the 'Hard Drive Locked' error -- on both drives. I'm looking to buy an SSD to boost my computer's speed as well as give a clean slate for me to reinstall Windows on and be ready for the Windows 10 upgrade in 2015.

This is the drive I'm looking at, in 128 or 256 gb size (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KFAGCUM/). When it comes, I want to install Windows fresh on it without necessarily wiping the other drive. Once I've installed Windows and transferred my files, I can wipe the other drive. I also would rather not clone the drives since I want a fresh start, only copying over the files that I need.

Now, my hiccup is with licensing. Will Windows allow me to register with my (valid) key if it's still installed on the previous hard drive? As I recall I've had issues with this in the past, namely that the previous hard drive hasn't been "deregistered" so to speak.

Anyways, I'm looking for general advice to make the migration seamless and leave me with a new computer. Thanks!

Andrew

I was an ENORMOUS idiot and rashly decided to download and run Combofix before knowing what I was getting myself into. I read a random post on Reddit about how great the program was for removing malware, and without much thought I ran the program. While it was working, I decided to do some research using my phone (since it temporarily disables internet), and soon realized I made a terrible mistake. But, my instincts told me it would be a horrible idea to close the program while it was already mid-operation, so I sat there in suspense, hoping my computer wouldn't explode and eradicate the entire human race. Anyway, I haven't noticed any immediate problems with my computer since running the program, although I have noticed a slight increase in speed.

Here are the logs. I have no idea how to interpret them, so if it deleted something that may cause problems, please let me know how I can fix it:

Hello all, I have a few questions about what card would be better for online gaming. I have a gateway GT5228 with a stock power supply, which is at 300 watts. I did not want to change the PSU out as I am on a a tight budget. I am hoping to upgrade into a budget graphic card that would be ideal specifically for EQ 2 and Vanguard. This card needs to be in accordance with my power specifications.

I narrowed my search to the 7600GS and 8600GT. Both of these cards appear operable with a 300 watt power supply. The 7600GS appears to be a 512 card with a slower core speed, at around 400 mhz. The 8600GT is a 256 card with around a 540 mhz core clock. The XFX model 8600GT is clocked at 620 mhz and is the model that Im considering buying for my PC.

I am wondering that the better card would be purely for online type games? Should I get a card with more memory (7600), or a faster card with lower memory (8600) ? What else should I consider when purchasing for specifically online gaming? Lastly, are these good cards for a low PSU and would the XFX 8600 GT (620 Mhz) require a significant more amount of power compared to its normal 540 Mhz cousins?

I will appreciate any thought s ya'll have. I'm relatively ignorant on "computer's", but since purchasing mine, I find the many things going on under the hood fascinating and am trying to learn more.

Answer:Proper video card for MMO's?

Hello, i'm sorry to say this but, you'll need to upgrade your psu at least 400 Watts in order to handle high ended video cards, for the video cards between 7600 and 8 series, it depends on the game memory and performance. What games do you play?

Hello Everyone, two weeks have passed since i got my Thinkpad L530 and for the most part i am happy with it. But there is one issue which gets on my nerves: - the absolute annoying pulsing of the fan !!! For me one of the most important reasons to buy this laptop were the good test-results about noise-emission and battery-duration, because i use this laptop for work. Therefore annoying fan-sounds are unacceptable. To solve this issue i have comb through serveral forum-threads and finally found a solution for my Win7-OS with TPFanControl. But i also use Xubuntu and on linux there are currently no working fan-applications for the SL- / L- and some E-Series What i have read about i'm not the only one with that problem and that issue seems known for ages....so my question is: - WHY do we still have to use third-party programs to get this problem solved, with the risk of breaking our hardware? Is it that hard for lenovo to offer a proper fan-control for their devices? Greetings, Christian W.

I have recently bought a Lenovo laptop (G50-80). I have some questions about prpoer way of using battery I mainly use the laptop as a desktop at home. Is there any negative effect on battery lifetime if

1) I detach battery pack from laptop and connect to power source when in use (i.e battery to be kept in exhausted state for a long time without charging)

Answer:G50-80 - Proper way of using laptop battery

Hi Jimmy283,

Welcome to the Forums

As per the query we understood that you are looking for the battery backup in your Lenovo G50-80 laptop.

I would suggest you to connect the battery and charge it till 100% and disconnect the adapter and discharge the battery till 20% and again charge the battery.

You can also put the battery into conservation mode, conservation mode charges upto 60% and stops.

Let us know the result.

Best regards,

I have a membership site http://monstermonthlyplr.com. When I click on the link to join Im taken to the signup page, when I fill in the required information im taken to the page to choose my preferred membership type. This all work properly. NOW..when I click on either one of the 2 type memberships Im taken to my paypal login page.

The problem is that when I choose the membership type, I should be taken to a paypal payment page????

I have tried this on several different computers with the same results. using explorer, I've also tried it using firefox and got the same results.

I've cleared my cache, tried changing my security setting etc., but still get the same results. I contacted the developers of the membership software (easymember pro) about the problem. They claim that they have tried
the site and links just as I have and when they click the join link they are taken to the paypal payment pages, just as it is suppose to work? If they are correct and it is working properly...why does it not work on my
computer???? and what can I do about it.

Hi,

I have a BT Business 500 broadband connection and i wan to share it between 2 laptops, so that one can be occasionally used for email/web browsing during the day and the other can be left downloading from kazzaa/irc/bittorrent/normal http. I also want to access the one that is downloading all day from home with gotomypc.

I was going to buy this:modem/router becuase bt supplies a usb modem (and it is CRAP! i have to reinstall it evrytime i boot up!)

but then when i was setting up the connection manually because the crap CD from bt dosent work properly it struck me: this isnt proper adsl! i cant set it up from either of the normal broadband options, instead i have to select a normal connection, select the broadband modem , leave the phone number blank and then enter my log on details. it still runs at 576 or so kbps.

so then i thought that maybe i dont need a proper broadband router if it isnt a proper broadband connection! aha! maybe i can get away by getting a cheapy router and using that will it work i wonder?

can anyone help me in my dilemma?

also i will need it to work with bittorrent, kazaa, irc, gotomypc, normal http downloads

also i am in the UK! plz note most things will be the same but possibly not! lol

does anyone know of any cheap uk broadband isp's? i got 512k but im thinking of getting 1/2mbps

thanks,
matt

I need to personally thank Broni for pointing me in the right direction.... kudos to you.....Here is the issue. My client had a crapload of viruses and trojans, spyware....you name it....it was there. I removed everything but am now getting a windows error msg window that pops up when rebooting. this is the msg:c:\windows\system32\proper.exethe msg states that windows is unable to locate the file proper.exe and instructs to do a search for the file. If you would be so kind as to assist me in this matter, I would greatly appreciate it. let me know, thankssolotekk

Answer:c:\windows\system32\proper.exe

You may not have gotten rid of all of the remnants of the malware as proper.exe is malicious.Check the processes in Task Manager to see if proper.exe is running and end the process if so.Then go to to C:\WINDOWS\System32\proper.exe and delete the file/folder proper.exe

Sorry for bothering. I have Satellite L30. One month ago the key Fn begun to work unproperly. ("Upside down").
The "Fn codes" (blue color on the keyboard) of any key works when the key Fn does not pressed. But the proper values of the key works only when the key Fn is pressed.
It is very uncomfortable - to press Fn and other key simultaneouosly.
Could anybody help?

Answer:Proper work of Fn key in Satellite L30.

Hi!

That sounds like a software problem. Maybe you should first remove and than reinstall the Hotkey Driver, that could solve your problem.

1. Uninstall driver
2. remove what left with driver sweeper
3. Reboot and try to install new driver BUT win7 automatically find their stock driver for 7600GT and installs it, damn it.

So, my question is:

hi rookalius and welcome to sevenforums,

Hey everyone.

I'm currently buying new parts for a gaming computer i'm going to put together myself. I know a PC should constantley stay below or around 60C, But what Kind of cooling should I have for these parts?

Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 Conroe 2.66GHz 4M sharing L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor

ASUS P5B Deluxe/WiFi-AP Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail -

ATI 100-435721 Radeon X1900 CrossFire Edition 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card

I originally Thought that a...

... PC Power & Cooling Silencer 610 EPS12V EPS12V 610W Continuous @ 40C Power Supply 90 - 264 V UL/ULC/CE/CB/TUV

With 2 x 80mm Blue UV Sensitive LED Fans -1 at rear, 1 on top(w/ Fan Grill & Filter)

Would be able to Cool efficently, but i am still unsure if I am correct.

Please let me know If those parts can cool efficently, and if not, what I need to add to my computer to do so.

Thanks!

Answer:Proper cooling equipment

Your cooling option is suitable to your gaming rig. I might offer you better cooling solution. Watercooling is best cooling invention around if you have lot of money in your wallet.

ATI 100-435805 Radeon X1900XTX 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 VIVO PCI Express x16 Video Card
ATI 100-435721 Radeon X1900 CrossFire Edition 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card (Does it compatible? Look closely at CrossFire Edition. You might better splurge out X1900 CrossFire instead.)

I have called and called and moaned and groaned but Lenovo will NOT give me the proper manuals for my new (when I got it). The incorrect ones are online and the same incorrect ones were shipped with the unit. The easiest way to see if it is the correct manual is to look at the number of memory slots, the K230 is shipped with 6 gig of memory and has 4 memory slots. It also has additional audio connectors including S/PDIF optical. The manuals shipped with the machine show only 2 memory slots and bassic audio connectors.  Lenovo support says the manuals are not available to the general public. Their documentation in sales brochures says 6 gig of memory, 3  2 gig modules and that is what i have.  Now, how can I get the correct manuals for my Ideacentre K230?  Why will Lenovo not give the correct manuals with their computers? Heck I can go to Joe Blow computer works and purchase a $29 system board and it will come with proper documentataion. I am PO'ed with Lenovo. I worked for almost 40 years for IBM corp in service and we always had available for the customer the proper documentation. What if the motherboard goes out in this computer, how will we ever get the proper one?

As of late I'm having major recurring issues with malware and so many tools to install just to remove it that I just gave up and started backup up essential data to the secondary drive in preparation of a full formatnuke of the system drive (C: in this case, of course)

I've prepped a streamliend SP3 XP install disc, based off my SP2 XP disc

I've downloaded off Majorgeeks (thanks guys) the usual anti-stuff (Outpost firewall, however, was provided by my good friend, box and all, bless him), drivers, and usual tidbits

I'm currently in the process of saving as much data as I can onto the other drive before I prepare the formatnuke.

What else should I be doing in this case? What else should I be saving in terms of data? What other program/s should I get off the internet before I go incognito whilst prepping it for a new lease on life?

Answer:a proper way to reformat winxp?

The only thing i can think of is to update your drivers and save them it will save time after the nuke

Have you searched Google Play?
Is there a link to Apps on the web page?
If neither of these return the result, then the answer would be not available. I certainly can not find it.

My question is really priviledge/permissions related.

I have had my system for 2 years now and I cannot seem to get this process down. Does one:

1.) Log in as "Administrator" and then install

2.) Log in as a normal user and enter the Adminstrator password when prompted during the install?

3.) As a normal user, right-click the installer executable and choose "Run as administrator"?

4.) Change a normal user's account to and "administrator" account, install the application(s) and then change the user account back to normal when finished?

5.) Should User Access Control (UAC) be on or off?

I've had issues related to permissions on and off. I've never quite gotten a good understanding of the Vista security paradigm as it relates to software installs. I'm trying to understand what a good standard practice is or ways to recognize when to use one method over another.

Some examples of issues I've had are with applications like Palm Desktop v6.2 (my adventures with that: Palm Desktop HotSync Manager v7.x software install on 64-bit), Macromedia (Adobe) Flash v10.x, Samsung New PC Studio v1.5.10064_2, Pocket Tunes v4, and a few others.

Some examples of issues I've had are: some programs partially run or don't run as a normal user. They run fine as Administrator. In some cases right-clicking the Desktop shortcut and choosing "Run as administrator" runs the application successfully, but this is not a good option for my kids and s... Read more

Hi and thanks for clicking on my post.

I've looked, and looked, and looked for the answer not only here but EVERYWHERE and I still can't figure it out. I'm not a computer guru, to give you an idea on my skill, I can basically take a PC apart and put it back together pretty easily.

I have a network problem.

See, I have a router (D-Link, DI-524) with 2 computers and an XBOX 360 connected to it. Now, the D-Link is connected to the modem (2WIRE 2701HG-G, which is kind of like a router itself) with 3 more PC's hooked up to it.

How do I make it so that we can all communicate and share files? I am also trying to forward the ports for an online MMO. The ports are never seen from my computer (one of the ones connected to the D-Link, which is then connected to the 2WIRE) which I use canyouseeme. I followed all the required guides for that on portforward.com

Any help would be extremely appreciated.

(Note: All the PC's are running Vista, except for 1 (XP) which connects straight to the 2WIRE.

Can you get the proper windows 7 animation instead of the dead-looking green vista progress bar on an MSI U100 Plus netbook?

Answer:Can you get the proper windows 7 animation?

It should not do that.

Did you upgrade from Vista?

Acer, we really REALLY need a proper BIOS on all of your lovely notebooks: Basically all one can change in the BIOS is the time and boot order. Aside from that, the BIOS has nothing to offer and every useful option is locked away in the depth of the ROM, waiting for a keen modder to unlock that. I am not talking about Overclocking, voltage tweaks or timings (though it would still be nice, hehe), I am talking about usefull, non-HW breaking options such as:Enable/Disable Hyperthreating (I really really need this to be OFF)Enable/Disable VTxEnable/Disable HPETWake on Keyboard/Mouse/etcDisable/Enable OptimusSelect SATA Mode (SATA1/2/3)None of these options can break a laptop, they can only improve upon it. Acer, could you kindly provide such a BIOS in the near forseeable future (like tomorrow) for all your current laptops and especially for the V5-573G? :-)

Answer:Proper BIOS for for all models

i have a project that involves launching different apps depending on the os and it's version. anybody has any idea how to do this?
example:

win98se -----> launch app - a
winme -----> launch app - b
win2000 -----> launch app - c
winxp -----> launch app - d
so on.....
???

Answer:os version and launch proper app

I am not 100% on what you are asking but I would say that all of these OSs have a start up folder in the start menu and an programs put in there will start when the computer starts up.
