WDS activation ...?

Question: WDS activation ...?

Hi All.
After the last update a week ago , now I have a message asking me to activate windows ..
My windows 8.1 came with the HP laptop and upgraded to 10 about a year ago ..

What is the problem ..? how do I fix this ..?

Thanks .

Answer: WDS activation ...?

Please open a Command Prompt (Admin) or Powershell (Admin) and run:
slmgr /dlv

There will not be any uniquely identifying info in the result, please post the entire result here without blanking anything out and we can help further.

I suspect you probably have an erroneous Windows 10 Home product key installed and it needs to be changed to:

Greetings!

This is relatively new experience for me and I have spent some time Googling for solutions.

A friend of mine upgraded his genuinely activated Windows 8 Pro Parallels virtual machine to Windows 10 Pro. After the upgrade, he finds that his Windows 10 Pro is not activating. When I check, the error 0xC004C003 states that the activation is being blocked.

A common suggestion I have encountered was to install the OS from scratch, but that isn't practical in this situation. I am also aware that with Windows 10 the licensing is based on unique hardware identification, which makes me feel that this might affect virtual machine installations due to the nature of virtualizaiton, but surely Microsoft had thought about this before rolling out Windows 10 with the new licensing scheme (or at least I hope).

Another suggestion I read and tried was "slrmgr.vbs /rearm" --> reboot --> "slrmgr.vbs /ato". I still receive the same error. I also tried "slrmgr.vbs /ipk Windows8KeyHere" but it didn't work. I received an error code "0xc004e016" about the key being invalid.

Any ideas?

Answer:Mac Parallels Windows 8 Pro (genuine activation) upgraded to 10 Pro, activation block

If he doesn't want to reinstall, call Microsoft's licensing number and complain.

hi all

is SLP loader functions the same as windows activator?

i'm using Win Server 2003 Standard Edition as my OS. currently, it's already prompting and i have 27-days left for activation

this all happened when i initiate System Recovery using the same CD installer i used to setup the same computer almost 3-years ago. i did so as it hung-up and i can't managed even to go into Safe Mode, as well, the so called Last Known Good Configuration but still to no avail

i used the same CD Key i used initially before but it won't accept or recognized it where it states that if my CD Key was right and still not updating then i should telephone Microsoft

wow!

can i do that when i'm not in the continental USA much more these computer was registered not under my name since it's only a hand-me-down or surplus which is beneficial to me

so i'm looking for SLP loader or windows activator (if it function the same way) intended for Win Server 2003 Standard Edition as it may resolve my issue

hope it's okay to inquire and that if it's not advisable to reply post in here, i welcome it through PM

Answer:windows activation (27-days left for activation)

If it's a valid key, you should have no problem calling MS to re-activate Windows.

It should give you an option to pick which country you're from on the activation window, and then a number to call.

Hi there
I recently changed a MOBO from an INTEL based one to one using an AMD PHENOM processor -- W7 didn't want any new activation rather surprisingly. (Broken Mobo and I had a spare ASUS MOBO lying around).

However the first time I switched to using a LAN cable instead of a Wifi USB adapter I got the "Hardware has changed - please activate windows. OK it activated fine -- however seems strange to me that a MOBO change didn't call for any activation (Disks, memory, DVD device etc were canaballized from the old machine) but a simple switch from Wifi to a LAN did. !!! The internal logic of the activation process seems totally illogical and bizarre. (Running W7 x-64 ULTIMATE). !!!

Cheers

Hi Gents,

Hope someone can help me here. I've been using a retail version of Win7 Home premium 64 for about 2 years now with no issues.

During that time I've reinstalled the product possibly 6 or 8 times. Excessive I know but when things start to go wrong I like to start fresh again. Anyway from memory the last 2 times I have had to use phone activation.

A couple of weeks ago I dropped my laptop and killed the HDD. Put in a new one and reinstalled Win. I've just tried to activate with no luck. I went to phone activation and being lazy I typed in my old code I had saved from last time.

Now I can't activate and when I try and open the phone activation box I get a pop up from the toolbar saying the copy isn't genuine and nothing more.

Is there a way to resolve this or have I pissed off the activation so much that I actually have to shell out for a new copy?

Thanks in advance and I'm located in Thailand if that makes a difference.

Hi guys , I installed ATI 2010 Home, Boxed version made a backup image to external HDD. got a message saying I had 30 days to activate trial version? I restored the backup image and I activated ATI , offline, I then received a message saying thanks successfully installed. When I access ATI now I get the same box asking for activation again. the options are Try out, Buy, Activate, Cancel . I was thinking of reactivating online , but am wary of further messing up the install . I have not registered the product yet , Had a look at the Acronis register page ( they tell you Not recommended to access the page) ? Any ideas with this one ? options uninstall , reinstall? Try activate online? Anyone experienced this problem?

Answer:Solved: Acronis keeps asking for activation after activation

Hi guys, this ones solved, I took a chance11 rebooted, connected to the internet, started ATI and reactivated online it worked . Same as last time only the ATI icon seems to be different, have tested it a few times and goes straight into Acronis without problems now. Done!

Hello, I have my original activation key but when trying to finalize it, windows tells me this key is only for upgrades not for clean installs?

I had to to do clean install and it was from my original official backup disc so I'm not sure what the problem is?

Answer:Activation says my key is only for upgrades not activation?

Maybe you bought an upgarde disc and not a full install disc.

Use your original disc, not the backup.

I am pretty sure I hate Win XP. I know I hate it`s activation feature.

OK my problem> I have XP SP1 on a 80 Gig drive, it`s a very clean load. The software is a registered/bonified/honest to God copy of XP, verified by Redmond to be an authentic copy. On it I also have software for my Plextor DVD/CD R/RW burner. A copy of Nero 6 burning software, and DVD X Copy, which also is activated online. All softwares also legit, and verified as so.

With it loaded fresh, all is well. After a period of appx 45 days, give or take, but hasn`t been more than 50, nor less than 40 I start getting a "you must activate your Windows software" button popping up on start up. If I click YES to activate it, it tells me it is already activated, which it is. I have used both the online as well as phone activation to do this. When I click the close window button it cycles around, and back to the same d*** window, again stating is NOT activated. This cycle goes ad infinum, until I finally nuke everything on the drive and start over. Doing this for a 45 day period of time is a pain in the a--.

Question: win xp activation

Here's the problem: I'm being told by MS to activate XP nonstop since I reinstalled it from scratch after having main files in the original wiped out by a virus. Thing is, I don't have the original cd. Well, there wasn't an original cd because XP came with the computer. Plus the computer was given to me by my cousin. I borrowed a disk to reinstall XP and ended up having to use that key code because the one on my computer sticker "doesn't match the disk." I used the jellybean program to change the key code to the matching one for my computer and I get an error message telling me that its invalid and to check it again. Now I'm stuck. I don't know who to ask at MS for help, if they'll even help me, so please......

Answer:win xp activation

You have to actualy wipe (zero-sum-fill) the hard drive first before you re-install.
Then, Install with the CD-Key of the copy of XP you have.
But, if anyone else has activated with that cd-key, it won't activate on yours.
So, you'll probably have to buy a new copy of XP.

Question: Activation

I have had Windows XP for about 4 years now all legal and registered. I had a hard disk problem(bad sectores) and put an new 550 gb hard disk in and cloned it with Seagate disc wizard. All great and I could boot from either drive. However, I thought I would do a fresh insatll of Win XP on my new hard drive as a couple of annoying errors had cloned across (obviously) After doing a new install it is now asking for both drives (old and new) for Windows to be activated. However even if I try to activate over the internet I can;t because I can't log on and it tells me I have no connection (catch22) There is no boot in safe mode is there? Any ideas how I can get in please?

Probably no ethernet driver. You might use another computer, go to the manufacturers website and DL the driver to a floppy/thumbdrive etc. and install it that way - should get you online.

Hi there

didn't you get a prompt for W10 during the re-install process. Refuse that (say later) . Install W7 and activate . Now go to windows Update in control panel and you should see Windows 10 offered as an update.

When re-installing W7 WIPE all the partitions off the old W7 partition / HDD.

Answer:Help With Activation Of XP!

All you need to do is cal the telephone number on the activation screen and explain to the tech that answers the phone. depending on how good your explanation is will either get you a new authorization or a refusal. If refused they will sell you a new product ID for somewhere between $100.00 and $200.00 depends one what version of Windows you need.

This is the only thing that you can do.

Question: XP Activation Help

I recently accidentally wiped my hard drive after trying to restore my master boot record, and I've needed to reinstall Windows. I have a Dell OEM XP SP2 disc laying around and I installed it without a hitch. My problem? It's on an HP. It constantly asks me to activate. Now I know this may be a stupid question, so be gentle. Can I call Microsoft to get it activated without any flak from them? I would call and try, but I'm kind of paranoid that they'll ask a question that will get me busted. I may be a worrywart, but I have to make certain before I call. Thanks for your help in adavnce.

Answer:XP Activation Help

an OEM disc is meant to stay with its original Motherboard..while you can get away with changing out the HDD, it can ONLY be activated with the MoBo it was originally activated with...

in short, no, you cannot activate your copy since you've put it on a different MoBo..AFAIK, you're gonna have to get a new copy of XP...they are usually on sale for around $130 for the OEM version...

Question: XP activation

Hi you all.

I have a small question.

I just built a new machine,a e6600 with a p5b delux mobo.
I installed xp using a old cd that i had(just because i havent bought a new xp yest)
I know that this isnt a leagel copy, but i thought that id install it and then i have 30 day to validate it.

bute here comes the problem.

I cant get it validated with the new key.

when i look at the system properties it says oem and dell, and i dont have a dell.
So i think that the cd i used was some kind of coperate version of a dell xp,

now i try to validate it with a key that i know works, that i use at work and have ok to use(its a multi licence key)
But i only get invalid key.

Does the XXXXXX-640-7721335-XXXXX from the system properties have anything to do with the validation?

Cause my com at home has XXXXX-Oem-XXXXXXX-XXXXX.

And if i change that will i be able to activate it?

Thanks in advance

2 laptops, both have insider pro on - now updated to 10240
both requiring activation
I have full DVD of win7 & win 8 pro with licences
to activate the laptops, do I have to delete win 10, and go back to win 7/8 to get a licence??
or is there another way to translate the licences??

Answer:Activation Win 10 pro - how

How long have you had the Insider builds running on the machines? If you've been an Insider for a while then 10240 should activate automatically, if you've recently installed an Insider build and updated to 10240 there's a chance it will not activate.

If you want RTM and opt out of being an Insider you would need to clean install W7 or 8.1 then run an in place upgrade either via Windows Updates or use the Windows 10 Download Tool to run from within your installed version of Windows.

It gives me boxes to type it in, so I do but the only options on the bottom are "Telephone", "Remind me Later" and "Retry" and when I type in the code and go to retry it it brings me back to the same screen. I upgraded to 10.

Here is a pic of the activation status. Even If i clean install 10, It won't ask for key rite?

Answer:Activation

Hey mate,

When you upgrade with the free reserved copy from the GWX app on an activated Windows 7 or 8.1 PC, Windows 10 has a generic key included that will activate it.

If you clean or upgrade install Windows 10 without doing the above first, Windows 10 will not be activated.
Can I reinstall Windows 10 on my computer after upgrading with free upgrade?

Once you’ve upgraded to Windows 10 using the free upgrade offer, you will be able to reinstall, including a clean install, on the same device. You won’t need a product key for re-activations on the same hardware. If you make a meaningful change to your hardware, you may need to contact customer support to help with activation. You’ll also be able to create your own installation media like a USB drive or DVD, and use that to upgrade your device or reinstall after you’ve upgraded.

I could not go back to W7 despite being within the 30 days(said files were deleted),and could not gain access to "D" drive where I had both an image and factory reset, so used media recovery usb from Toshiba.Using this I reformatted and re-installed W7 successfully, however this also changed my activation key. Do I need to change it back to original,or should I just leave it as it is.My computer indicates that Windows 7 has activated successfully.Thank You

Answer:W7 Activation

If Windows says it is activated then leave it. The key on the Recovery USB may have been different but still activated Windows.

Question: XP activation

The PC, on which I installed a legal retail copy of XP, is in the middle of its 30 day activation period. As I had done most of the upgrades I wanted, I decided to do a regwiz and register the product and get it activated. Towards the end I got a number which was supposed to identify the product for Microsoft support. At the very end I got a message saying that an error had occurred and the program wished to send a couple of files to Microsoft, which I allowed.
Does this mean that my XP OS has not been activated and should I do anything else to get it activated?
TIA

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this question maybe someone could point me to the right direction? have been on with microsoft answer tech and he tells me "I see, I have checked the product key that
you have and it is under Windows 7 Ultimate and its under MSDN, meaning to say that you need to contact MSDN technical team in order for them to activate this license."

Question: 8.1 activation

I already entered my product key but still my windows 8.1 is not activated. Why is that so?

I had to upgrade my laptop because Win 7 got so many errors on it and I couldn't fix it. So to make a long story short I upgraded to Win 8 Pro x64.

Since I don't have a legit key activation fails, but I want to buy it and when I click on the buy it link it says I have to go to a retailer.

My question is how can I buy a license? If I wait until late Oct. will it work then? How long can I wait with not activating it? I don't want to ge locked out.

It is Win 8 Pro Build 9200, don't think it is MSDN.

Question: Win 7 activation

I am upgrading a winxp dell laptop to win 7. The license is legit, I bought a new work system with a win 7 ultimate license and downgraded it to xp using my old xp license and wanted to use the win license to upgrade my home laptop, in effect swapping the licenses on both machines. I did a clean install on the home system, formatted the drive, the install appears to have gone correctly but never asked for the new license. When I try to enter the license manually it keeps telling me there is a problem and to call Microsoft and register over the phone. I would rather figure out what the problem is and get it corrected. I think the way I installed win 7 on my home system wasn't the best way to do it but at this point I'm not sure what the best next steps should be.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Question: XP Pro Activation

Hi,

the volunteer agency where I work (unpaid) has just been donated three new HP PC's all with XP Pro already installed. In order to provide some level of support I need to install a copy on my home PC. I have the CD with the install code, but every attempt I make to activate it using XPKey.exe from the Blue list fails. Any help would be appreciated.

As to piracy issues, I have been cutting code for thirty years - starting with a paper tape absolute loader for a PDP11/05 in 1974. For me s/w has "always" been licenced on a "user" basis. For PC's as long as there was only ever one user at any point in time then the number of machines was immaterial, and I find this process of locking s/w to a specific machine quite reprehensible, and only possible from a monopolistic entity. Having experienced many many years of M$ predatory business practices I have no respect for how they choose to control the market for their products. Pirates don't just come in small boats, they also come in aircraft carrier corporate battle groups.

Granny Nerd.

Answer:XP Pro Activation

Granny, You've been code monkeying as long as I've been alive; and while I completely , totally and thoroughly understand and respect your stand point on piracy, I would like to point out that only the OEM licenses are tied to specific PC's. Retail licenses are per installation and activation may be required depending on what has changed in your PC based on a point system where each hardware component is weighted. Additionally, Major Geeks prides itself in being anti-piracy. We do not sell or promote software that has the ability to hack/crack software for use without payment.

XPKey , in my understanding, is a key generator. This would lead me to believe that you do not have a licensed key. Given that information I humbly request you understand our position on this matter and the fact that we cannot offer you assistance in obtaining use of software illegally regardless of our understanding of MS's monopolistic tendencies.

If Major Geeks can be of further assistance to you in the future, please let us know.

Respectfully,
Jim Losi

Windows XP is telling me it needs activation within the next 3 days for some reason.  I have the XP product key but it when i enter the product key nothing happens.  The product key is good.  We even tried to load Windows 98 on one occasion and Windows 2000 but the pc would not accept those either with their respective proper product keys. Any ideas because it appears in 3 days i will be without a computer.  Thanks

Answer:T40 XP says needs activation?

We called Microsoft and the person who helped us said " it is an IBM problem". Microsoft made sure we had the correct product key and the T40 wouldn't accept it. It just reverted back to XP and that pop up note that says activation required within 3 days. It's a T40-2373.

Question: Activation?

Hi,

Does anybody know if MS are going to continue with their activation scheme, as in XP?

Answer:Activation?

More than likely as it seems to be working (at least from Microsoft's standpoint) with XP. I would think that it will probably be an even more secure anti-piracy measure also.

Question: XP Activation

Hi
I am working on a recent compaq running xp hm sp 2 - evidentally after the owner did a windows update, the fit hit the shane, so to speak, and had no backup. they also had no xp cd. I have a similar dell cd, xp home sp 2.

To make a long story short, the owner does not want to lost data, so I thought I might be able to use my cd. I feel like the liscencing issue should not be a problem because each pc has its own seperate coa sticker on the case and they run the same operating system.

If everyone agrees that the existing liscenses are fine, maybe you can set my on the right path for the next part:

I thought to recover windows using the xp cd. after booting off the cd, then repairing the operating system, it wants me to activate. the ethernet does not appear to be working, but the modem does. xp tries to dial in to verify, but does not receive a confirmation. It then gives me the option to telephone in to verify. This is an automated process, with no-one to speak with other than the "operator" - evidentially a computer based menu.
the compaq, having appeared to successfully repair itself, offers an "activation ID" to use over the phone to activate.

Here is the problem. Evidentally the dell cd must not jive with the compaq because it kicks back my "activation ID." Is there a way to talk with a person over there at Microsoft? Or does the owner simply have to buy another CD? Are there any other workarounds? Remember, we... Read more

Answer:XP Activation

First, let me say we will not assist with any type of software piration.

Dell disk should only be used on a Dell System. Compaq should have Restore Disk, if the user does not have them then they should contact Compaq so they can get them.

Other option would be to buy the OEM copy of XP. Using a Dell reinstallation disk is not recommended.

Also, the installation needs to match the COA sticker key, if it doesnt then it needs to be an OEM copy.

My pc was running so terrribly slow--I tried everything; updates, virus scan, windows tools, mr fixit, nothing worked. Finally i read on this forum I should do repair. Disks lost long time ago, I downoad win 7 from this site link, installed on directory and ran "repair" to simply repair my win 7 pro already on my pc. Seems to have fixed something--running my better. But now is shutting down because want avtivation (money). I jst wanted to FIX win 7 pro that was already on my pc--not buy again. Contacted Microsoft help, chatted with some guy from another country, asked for help and he said it would take him MORE THAN AN HOUR and I would have to pay him but gave me no final price. I said no--probably win7 caused this problem in the first place. (Just look at this forum...it's insane the problems).

I need to get my old activation back. Have old system restore disk. Can I do reset to previous time? I can't afford to buy again. I have found an old win 7 ultimate disk from previous pc. Please help. All my files and directories are intact--did NOT do install, only repair. I said sure activate, thinking it would take my old serial number. Now it is shutting down. No wonder everyone hates this...

Answer:win 7 activation help

ok, I read the instructions, will comply. Saw all the views without any reply and figured something is up. Still desperately need help--don't know if pc will allow me to do all this. Question: Activation

Just downloaded 10532 and all went well. It shows that it is activated but has an expiration date of 07-15-2016. When I run slmgr /xpr it shows it is activated permanently on this machine. Are they referring to the original RTM as being permanent?

Answer:Activation

The Permanently activated notice is not correct - but the evaluation expiration date is.

The RTM that was "upgraded" to the latest insider version is no more. I do not worry - most likely during the next 12 months there will be another version that will not be time-limited, - another RTM or gold version - that will not time out, while successive insider evaluations will be released for evaluation..

When I booted my PC this morning, I got a message saying that the hardware had changed and I had to reactivate Win XP. Well, the hardware hadn't changed, but I attempted to do the activation. The activation window opened, but the normal activation info did not appear. Instead, the hard drive is constantly busy and msoobe.exe is using about 30% of the CPU and this goes on forever. (Forever being at least 10 minutes in this case). I've tried it multiple times with the same result.

Everything appears to be fine on the hard drive and all applications work properly. I've always accepted the installation of the latest XP maintenance and am at SP3 level. Any idea as to how to proceed? I have the 888-571-2048 activation number, but when you call that they assume you can get the activation window open and see the options available. Maybe if I had left the activation loop run for a few hours it might have eventually presented me with the proper screen?

Answer:Win XP Activation help!!

It may be a virus. Your windows activation data is stored in your C:\WINDOWS\system32\wpa.dbl along with other stuff. That may have become corrupted, so I would suggest using a virus scanner first to assure that's not the case.

I'm asking on behalf of my Mom - about a year ago my uncle did an overhaul of my Mother's old computer. When he gave it back to her, it had XP installed on it. Recently when she starts up the computer, the Windows Product Activiation screen comes up saying she must activate with Microsoft before she can log on. We were unable to locate any XP disc, and my uncle insists he gave it to her, but we fear he may have uploaded an illegal copy. My Mom ordered a legal copy of XP, but now we can't figure out what to do with it. The computer can't get out of the Activation window, and nothing happenes when we put the disc in the drive. We tried putting in the code we got with the new XP, but it doesn't work. The new XP disc is the version that comes with Service Pack 3, but I am not sure of what she had previously. She would just contact Microsoft, but after buying XP, her budget won't allow for a $59.00 phone call or email.

Any help or advice anyone has would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Answer:I need some help for Activation

Hey man just when you start the computer press F2 or F1 (or the key the screen tell
you to press for BIOS). Do this quickly before anything Windows related appear if you fail turn off pc and try againg.

If you successfully got into the BIOS first be careful dont change anything, use the arrows keys and look for some settings to change the Boot order "boot sequence", "boot priority", etc

Change the booting order to Boot from CD/DVD rom first. After you do that exit saving your changes (usually F10).

Then you restart the computer with the Windows XP cd you bought in and the setup should start, follow instructions to install XP. After it finish restart computer again, go into BIOS again and change the booting order again and put Hard Drive first.

And well that should do it.

Several months ago, I gave a computer running Win 7 to a troubled friend. I have reason to believe she pawned it and lost it, but cannot get in touch with her to verify this. If I am correct, and if the pawn shop wiped the drive prior to reselling it (as I would imagine they did), then I could sell that copy of Windows or use it on another machine.

Is there any way to determine whether my product key is currently in use on another machine?

Answer:Is my Win 7 Activation key in use?

If the w7 was installed on the PC at the factory, ex. Dell, eMachines, etc, the key can't be used on another machine in any condition.

I doubt if a pawn shop would go to the trouble of wiping a drive, they don't really care, unless law requires it in some states.

I can't find a way to check to see if the key is in use. One way would be to install and enter the key after installing to see if it will activate.

Question: XP activation

Hello Geeks
I finally seem to be running XP without a hitch with a 533 Celeron Processor.
I upgraded to 256 RAM (the most allowed). I changed the PS2 mouse to a serial mouse and changed the FAT32 file system to NTFS. Anyway when I upgrade how do I install the XP onto another HDD. How does that work? Can I activate the XP again after I upgrade to a different system if it was the same copy of XP? Am I stuck with this copy of XP on this computer?
Is it a one time deal?
Thanks

Answer:XP activation

No it's not a 1 time deal. You will have to activate it over the phone. This is such a grey area though. Microsoft haven't said anything officially about installing XP on more than one system.
They even ask you now when you activate it "have you installed this on any other machines"? You simply have to reply "no".

I waited the 30 days before activating windows xp (stupid mistake :\)

I use windows home with service pack 2. I have a cable modem and a router that connects to 2 other computers.

Anyways when I log on it takes me right to an activation screen. I click on activate on line but windows cannot detect my on line settings. Weird part is surfing the web worked before this activation screen poped up. So i tried calling windows activation support and I gave them my installation ID. But the lady on the phone said it was not a valid number. I even called again and double checked to see if I gave it right. Didn't work.

Is there now a way to activate windows with out reinstalling windows? (I'd like to keep the files in my documents and microsoft is no help)

Thanks in advanced.

Answer:Help with win xp activation

If it is a valid ID, and the disk has never been used on another PC, and is not a copy, then escalate the call.

Is this a new PC?

An upgraded installation?

Some history would help.

I have a Desktop PC which I upgraded to Win10 with no problems. I also have a Laptop, HP ProBook which was also offered to upgrade to 10 which I did and gave to my daughter.

She attends University away from home, and I never had a chance to look at the laptop much. She graduated this week and came back home and I took a look at My/her laptop and found out, much to my surprise that Win10 never activated on it.

The original account, in which the previous Windows version was upgraded is still present on laptop, (my account), so I tried to activate from there and it was not possible.

The original license is no where to be found on the computer, i.e. sticker, but I do have the DVD to upgrade to Win 8.1 from Win 7 that came with it, which I never did.

I thought of using the credentials of the account in my desktop to create a new one in laptop, Microsoft account, but I am reluctant to do so, as I don't know how that would impact my desktop.

So my question is:

How to activate Win10 on laptop at this point?. If a reinstall Win 8.1 will it recuperate my previous license, (doubt it). Can I use the Microsoft account in my desktop on laptop at the same time and try to activate?.

Is there any other way to activate? Calling Microsoft maybe...

Thank you very much in advance for your sugestions

Question: XP activation

XP wants me to enter the CD key, the one I have from belarc advisor does not work, says it is incorrect for whatever reason. I have lost the CD and key since I have moved about four times since I bought it five years ago.

So what are my options? I know Windows 7 is coming out soon so it would be a huge waste to buy Vista now. Is there really cheap XP keys I can get anywhere? I also heard that some versions of Vista will get you Windows 7 when it comes out.

Answer:XP activation

The key should be stuck on the computer case. I would be surprised if this forum would allow anyone to help you further with this issue...as it might be helping others to use pirated software...or at best illegal activities.

Question: XP Activation

Hi folks,

I just bought a SONY Vaio GRZ630 Notebook computer with WinXP installed.

I temporarily hooked it into my home network to zip on over to Microsoft and get my XP activated so it doesn't up and die in 30 days. Well....in looking around, there is no activation icon in the systems tray and there is no activation listing under

Start/
Programs/
Accesories/
System Tools

Which, BTW, the XP help center said there would be such things.....

So....what gives? Is this Notebook immune from activation thingy stuff? It gives the appearance of already being activated, but I can't tell for sure. Also....as added info....when I first turned the machine on, I was fully prepared to enter in the Product ID code like I have done with other Windows installs....but with this one...it just went through some SONY screens and dropped me on the desktop, ready to go.

Thanks.

Answer:XP Activation

Some computers like Gateways that come with a system restore disk have a volume licensed modified version of XP, most likely the disk won't work on any other PC since the registry key that activates it is somewhere on the CD and is tied to that particular hardware. No, it doesn't need activation. Like I said, there is a reg file on the disk that is installed when you run the restore disk that ativates it.

I actually feel manufacturers are short-changing people by these restore disks. I mean, you bought the CD, you should be able to use it on any PC you want to. They prevent piracy I guess.

Folks,I bought Win 7 recently, (Full retail, not OEM, at the special pre-order price). I didn't have a specific use for it at the time, but then decided to try it on my laptop. I liked it and eventually wiped Vista altogether from the laptop and freshly installed Win 7, and got everything running REALLY nicely. It was activated about a week ago.Lo and behold couple of night ago a serious problem with the laptop. Bottom line is that it's a motherboard problem and a repair is not a realistic financial proposition...So I'll be looking to replace the laptop. One of the models I'm considering comes with no OS.Now becasue this is a retail version of Win7 I know I can install it on another machine, as long as it's only on one at a time.Does anyone know how much of an issue it will be, to activate this copy of Win 7 on another computer?I understand, (from threads regarding other folk reactivating XP in the past) that attempting to activate online will fail, and a number is presented for you to call and activate by phone. What I'm wondering is how much hassle is it IN PRACTICE. Do you speak to a real person? Do they give you a hard time? I'm wondering especially because of the short time involved between installations. Thanks in anticipation,Regards,Simsy

Can I transfer a license to another computer?

Consumers should use the terms of their license agreements to determine if it is permitted to transfer a license to another computer. If a transfer is permitted by the license agreement, the product has to be removed from the computer on which it was first installed. Users may have to complete the activation on the new computer by placing a call to the Microsoft Activation Center.

Answer:Win 10 No Activation

Check the OEM edition of the laptop.. run ShowKey first to check the edition - click the keys shown, to mask them ( then screenshot or save the txt file and paste the result here)

Question: Activation XP

Hello,

My computer crashed and I re-installed XP on it and now I get the message to activate in 30 days or else. When I click to activate I get the message it is already activated. What does this mean?
I changed to date to 30 days ahead to see if the message would go away and now it just goes in lopes activate and already activated, even with the date changed back, it will not openanything but this activation screen.

Answer:Activation XP

Because you already activated it, microsoft basically wont allow you to activate it again. You have to call microsoft and tell them your situation. They will give you a code to fix it. I had to do the same thing for office xp....my comp got screwed up, so i reformatted....wouldnt let me activate...so i called ms, told them i reformatted and needed a new code, and they gave me one.

EDIT: the reason they do this is for software piracy issues...cant use the product if its already been used once.... one thing you should note though, because that screen auto pops up now all the time, you might have to reinstall xp again...ask ms about that

I want to validate batmansfield's uncle and his contention of a good copy of OS. Microsoft's windos is very peculiar when it comes to volume copies as intalled by any one of the major computer manufacturers. I changed a fried motherboard with full intentions of preserving the Windows XP OS, video, music and digital fotos, not to say the least, numerous games and their saved progress I have on my hard drive. The hardware is doing its job, but now I have to find a way to download all of the data into another system, and then perform a clean install on this hard drive. Microsoft can not validate in activation a Product Key when a component has been changed by someone other than the original computer manufacturer...as I understand it. It almost feels as if all of my data is being held hostage until I pay the ransom money for an Product key .

Answer:I need some help for Activation

Use the key, that came with the machine. Do a clean install, wipe the
drive with killdisk first.
If a error pops up about validation, call the phone number on the
blue screen, explain to the asian chick on the other end that the
mobo fried on your boxstore pc and you had to replace. Ive done
it numerous times, if you start with a clean drive though, you rarely
have a issue.

Question: XP Activation

I have imaged countless laptops over the years using PowerQuest Deploy Center, I have never ran into many issues untill lately, after imaging a few IBM X40 laptops running Windows XP and deploying that image onto other X40'S I can't get those machine to activate XP, I am using the correct key codes and still it tells me that the code is wrong, so I figured I would use the IBM restore option to bring the machine back to it's factory state and image the machine with an older X40 image that I know works, yet still even after restoring the older image I get the same error when I try to activate windows, what is causing this? why would it still have this problem even after restoring it back to factory and then re-imaging? could I re-run Sysprep?

Answer:XP Activation

Call Microsoft, they will help resolve the issue, Also do this & you will never have this issue again.

Reinstall Windows XP without re-activating

If you were to reinstall Windows XP, you normally must re-activate it as well, even if your hardware is unchanged... luckily, there's a way around this.

First, your hardware between reinstalls must NOT change..

XP keeps the activation information in a file named "wpa.dbl", which can be found in _:\WINDOWS\System32\

After your activating Windows XP, back this file up to a floppy or some other type of media.

Now, if you ever need (or want) to reinstall Windows XP, go through the whole procedure as you normally would. Once you get into Windows itself, copy the file from your media back into _:\WINDOWS\System32\... You may need to be in safe mode to do this

Question: XP Activation

My sister just got a new DELL laptop and she asked me to partition her HD the same way I do to my work PC's. The laptop is new out of the box. When I partition a HD, I like to just reinstall the OS and partition if from the setup so that all the junk demo programs and stuff that comes from the factory isn't floating around.

The one thing that I noticed was that I didn't get the XP Activation Notification when XP finished installing. I know that it is/was buried in the start bar menu under accessories\system tools, but I can't find it anywhere on her laptop. I know that the previous XP installs would have a message saying that if you don't activate this within 30days, it won't work. I don't want the laptop to suddenly stop working after 30days on my sister if I missed activating it. Is it automatically activated during setup and during the internet setup, pre-activated at the factory for this machine, or do I need to manually activate it using some wizard that I can't locate.

Thanks.

Question: XP activation

Has anyone else had SP2 trigger a request for their XP activation which has been in place and working fine for months? I ask because after installing SP2 20 days or so ago I received an activation request last night saying I had 6 days left to register.

I don't use the machine much so it may have prompted me sooner though I'm pretty sure I used it in the last couple of weeks at least once but who knows.

Question: win XP activation

Will the product ID's for Windows XP work with any Windows Installation CD? A friend of mine tried to reinstall Windows XP home edition on his computer with some one else's CD, but using his Product ID#. He is at college and his installation disc was left at home so he didn't want to wait for it ot arrive. When he tried this, he called microsoft to activate and a recording told him that either the ID# was bad or the ID# did not recgonixe the software and to re-install. So did that mean that he has to use his own CD? His CD was a Windows XP Home Edition upgrade disc while the one he tried wasn't an upgrade.

Answer:win XP activation

the product keys will work with any CD as long as they are the SAME VERSION otherwise it gets fairly complicated...
