I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,

My laptop is HP tablet PC. This problem just happened recently, I can't access to one website (lets call it as x.com) where at the same I can access to many other sites with no problem.
it says:
Error 502 - Bad Request

This error is not suddenly happened, if I fresh boot the laptop and directly connect to the internet/ that website, I still can access it but after 1-2 minutes it's down and gives the error.

The confusing things is, when this laptop connected to the network, it makes the whole network can't access that web site. Once, I disconnect the laptop from the network and restart the router, the other pc on the network can access the website very well.

I was curious that my PC got virus or trojan that causing this problem and i scan my pc with antivirus, antispyware, antimalware....the result is I found my PC infected by:
Trojan horse backdoor.agent.ydd
stored in : C:\Document and settings\Network service\local settings\temporary internet files\content.ie5\AJQOO6c9\rpdeuzxa[1].gif.

After I heal it by antivirus and permanent remove the file manually, the same error still occurred.

Any ideas, what is this? and how I can fix this?

Thanks everybody!!!

Righteo, i have my (main) desktop hooked up with mapped folders which my two other computers (laptop wireless and wired and desktop wired) can access and do what i intended them to with sharing restrictions, etc.

However, my 2nd laptop that after a struggle connecting it to the homegroup will not allow access to any mapper folders keeps popping up with a login screen for THAT laptop, and my others will not connect to it properly.

any ideas where the problem lies??

Answer:laptop will access homegrop but will not allow access to mapped folder

Have a look at this Microsoft article, which describes how to set up a Homegroup.

HomeGroup from start to finish - Help & How-to - Microsoft Windows

Just remember that a Homegroup should be used when all your computers on the network have Windows 7 installed.

If they don't you need to be using a Workgroup.

HI,
Hoping someone can help my frustration with my home wireless.
I have a new laptop that cannot access my home wireless. There are 3 other computers that can access it so I know it's working. When I work away the new laptop can access other wireless connections. But as soon as I get home it's stuck on 'acquiring network address'.
The weird thing is my kindle does the same thing as does my friends iphones & ipads. They all connect wireless no problems elsewhere but cannot at my house.

I've tried switching off the other others computers connections & trying to connect.
Resetting the router

Please help getting very frustrated, not sure if it's my laptop or the router!??!?!

Thanks in advance guys!

Answer:Laptop cannot access home wireless, can access elsewhere & other computers are on it

What you describe can be caused by using the wrong network key. To check this go to the routers wireless settings, and in the Security Options, click Disable. If you are then able to connect it is down to the network key.

You might also want to try changing the channel and Mode in the router. Change the Mode to 'g only' and the channel to No 13. Work your way down from there until you get the best result.

I have a PC and a laptop, both Win 7 Pro 64bit. I can create homegroup from both PC and laptop and can be successfully connected, and the laptop can always access to the PC shared libraries, regardless of whether the PC or laptop creates the homegroup, HOWEVER, the PC always cannot access to the laptop's shared libraries.

The printer is connected to the PC through USB, and the laptop can used the printer through homegroup to print, regardless whether PC or laptop creates the homegroup.

I used kaspersky internet security 2010 for both laptop and PC, and with Windows firewall enabled. I tried to disable Windows firewall on both PC and laptop, then try to access the laptop shared libraries but to no success.

I have read some threads, but not so similar to my issue.

PLEASE HELP ME in this issue!!

I tried ping to the laptop's IP address or name, but it comes with the following:

First let me say when I have had issues, I have always trusted this site. I was using a Vista laptop and it started having issues. I went online and tried to fix it myself. It was getting slow and very busy. It started losing internet connectivity, but the router was fine. I would have to reconnect to server, often! Att sent me a new wireless N router. I was able to connect for a few minutes and now not at all. Att wont help as they say it is a "computer issue". They said it was connected to a "group". Well we have a older laptop (the one I am on) and it has issues now. It has not been being used because if it gets bumped it messes up and II have to push on hard-drive and restart, (long story) Anyway... Since I have no other options, I started using it. It is XP. It was running at 100% cpu on the iexplore. I would disable it. I figured it was a virus, went into hklm and changed the shell to correct setting from Explorer to explorer, (This did not matter as the next day it corrected itself) I thought it helped at first as it quieted down and my google page looked different. My speakers were making a noise like someone touching a microphone, The volumn was already choppy when we stopped using it long ago. Most likely a virus even then, as it happened suddenly. While I was checking folders I went into logged firewall events and this computer was hit thousand's of times from my IP address of the Vista, on 5/27. Also today while watching the task manage... I was wondering if it was possible to share a connection from my laptop that has a LAN card and a wireless card, so another laptop can get wireless acess from my computer when its connected to a LAN.

Are there any tutorials out there that will guide me through this?

I am using Windows XP.

Thanks

Answer:share wireless connection from laptop to allow other laptop access

With XP its pretty easy. Just set up "Internet connection sharing" By the sound of it, you should config your laptop to use the internet. With the wireless card, right-click it, go to properties, go to advanced, check the option for sharing the connection.

Configure the other card to ad-hoc to your laptop to connect to your laptop via wireless and you should have an internet connection.

Why is it that I can do anything to my Xp laptop shares from Win7 but Xp asks for a username and password to access Win?

It's all feeling very Vista'esq again

Am I supposed to know what this username and password is? Did I create a username and password while not paying attention?

I've turned off password protected sharing in advanced sharing settings, turned on file and print sharing, both computers are joined to WORKGROUP. I went through the file sharing setup wizard on Win7 which spat out a password at the end but like so what? There's no username to go with it and it doesn't work if you enter that password from Xp anyway.

Can someone please put me on the right track here?

I hope that MS realise that there's an ocean of idiots like me that just want to copy a file from PC A to PC B at home and that the wizard should set all this up for us and not make us google around for half an hour just to find out how to copy a file from box to box. Unless it's intentionally not backward compatible?

Thanks

Hello,
like since 5 days ago I'm not able to access any programs or use anything on my laptop. To be honest so the night before that happened, I was updating a game. And then I fell asleep for like 2 hours. Then suddenly the blue screen appeared. Not sure if that was the Kernel error because I didn't really look at it. Then I couldn't even go to the Login screen, so I had to restore my laptop with my Win 8.1 Install - CD. I can't even open IE.
I use a ASUS laptop X550C. It's laggy and freezes like hell.
Thanks.

Answer:Why can't I access any programs on my laptop after restoring my laptop?

A restore will put your laptop as if it was just bought and will not have programs that you have installed on it. You will have to reinstall them. I hope you have a backup of your data.

Is it possible to export the wireless access point setting from one Windows XP pro sp3 laptop onto another. Do they have to be entered back in when connecting to the acess point the next time with new laptop.

What about printers? Can printers be exported and then imported onto

Check out the User State Migration Tool from Microsoft. That may get you what you're looking for. I know it will do printers, but I'm not sure about the wireless settings.

Good morning. I'll keep this brief for now. I have laptop which is about 4 years old and which runs Vista. It's been pretty reliable so far but my daughter has been using it recently and I think (from observations and conversations with friends) that it has picked up a virus. It suddenly started to shut down or reboot for no reason. It has Norton 2011 IS on it but there were no warnings.

By the time she brought it to me it wasn't booting at all but was coming up with the blue screen message that says that windows has been shut down to prevent damage to the machine. I managed to get in via safe mode and did a system restore which I thought was going to do the trick but when Norton did it's update (which it had not been able to do for a few days) it was only able to download the new databases but not to apply them. (Thats why I think it may be a virus). Then I got the blue screen message again. The only other thing I have been able to do is a checkdisc /f repair which observably did some correcting but hasn't completely worked. A few more trys has left me unable to boot up at all.

We got the machine from PC World and therefore have a disc which we let me into repair /restore options (which is how I did the above) or which will let me do a destructive reinstallation. However I have no disc to boot up from.

I therefore cannot do any of the tests I know I should do before opening a new thread and cannot post any logs. Sorry about this but I can't ... Read more

Answer:cannot access laptop at all

It's been a week but I have had no replies. I hope I am not wasting peoples time but I have been doing a bit more work and can at least share the following.

Norton IS 2011 is installed on the laptop in question and I have found out that the disc also functions as a bootable system recovery tool. Great except that although the machine will boot up as far as allowing the choice of language to work in it then crashes out to the famous blue screen and the "windows has been shut down to prevent damage...".

On advice from a friend I have also been able to boot up by downloading the Ubuntu OS as a boot disc so I am now actually doing this on the affected machine. If I can actually boot up using a different OS that suggests to me that the problem is not hardware but is a virus as if it were corrupted system files they should have been fixable when I used the system recovery disc we produced earlier when the machine was working.

That said there have been problems booting up even with Ubantu. Sometimes it works fine and the desktop appears and has all the icons that will let me access the system. However sometimes not. Not sure what this signifies.

In addition I don't think I can run any anti virus etc when the machine is running under Ubantu. I guess I could back stuff up and reinstall but if it is malware I would like to be able to root it out if I could and just carry on as before.

Hope someone can help

A friend of mine last week started her laptop and discovered that she has to enter a password to login which was not the case before. She tried many passwords and failed to login. Then she asked for my help and I tried all options from the F8 menu and failed to login to the laptop. I also tried the "administrator" account without a password which started a login process and after few seconds it went back to the login prompt. I noticed at the top right corner of the screen that there is an icon for "Kaspersky Internet Security V. 7.0" and tried clicking on it with no luck. Then I used a bootable CD to access the C: and D: drives and backed up everything to an external hard drive. And because I needed the space on the external hard drive I had to copy everything again to my desktop and while copying the files a McAfee prompt appeared indicating that some files are infected with "Puper" and others are infected with "Virut.gen.a". At this point I tried booting with an XP CD and did a repair for the windows installation which went fine except finding the right driver for the Intel video adapter.
After the repair finished I had the same problem again trying to login to the system using the two available accounts on the screen (i.e. administrator and the owner user name.).
The laptop is an LG Centrino laptop and the OS is windows XP Professional.

That HP 2000 series model laptop should have a factory restore partition that allows it to be reverted back to its original new condition.

If it doesn't or if it's damaged, you'll need the factory restore disc kit for it.

There are several HP 2000 series model laptops, so you need to confirm the exact one you have.

You can then access the HP support site for it.

My grandson has the HP 530 laptop Vista basic on sticker on top vista business on label on bottom LOL, we bought for him last year, now out of warranty. When starting up it asks for boot disk or press F11 for recovery. I downloaded a vista boot disk from interent and tried using it. It starts, loads the files from disk etc then after a while it comes up with blue screen and error
***stop 0x0000007e (0xc0000005, 0x8898a8aa, 0x82e03b58, 0x82e03854)
I then restarted and used the f11 option (as recovery is on hard drive) and got the windows recovery screen and tried to recover, it started but then I got error message and couldnt continue so I restarted and got blue screen again saying fatal system error verification of knowndll failed.

I then retried with boot disk and got the reinstall windows screen. It gave me three options Install Now, What to know before installing windows, repair your computer. When selecting repair it asks me to select operating system to repair but there are none listed so cannot continue.. It says if you dont see op system listed click load drivers for your hard disk. I dont have drivers for hard disk.
Does all this mean that it cannot access the hd as it has failed or has windows been removed/corrupted on hd due to virus maybe? I had antivirus installed but with teenage boys not keeping uptodate and sharing usb keys with mates with games etc anything could of happened.

Hi! Ridiculous question: I need files on my old laptop. I log in with 4 digits on my new laptop and can gain access to my files. When I shut it down and try to log in with the old machine, it can't access my files! Is there an easy fix? I have no idea what to do.

Answer:Can't Access Old Laptop

Which OS do you have installed on the old laptop? There is a way of getting to the files without having to boot into the OS, but that'll require a Linux Live CD or flash drive. Basically, it'll boot up into Linux and then you can use the file manager to find the files and then copy them over to a disc or external HDD.

For Windows-based machines, there is a way to do an in-place installation that won't destroy the data held on the HDD, but you'd need the product key and the OS installation DVD for the old laptop.

I had similar issues today with my friend's PCs, but didn't troubleshoot as I only needed to connect to 1 machine. But I suspected a service issue, or perhaps a firewall one. Check the below ones in services.msc (You may not need the HomeGroup ones)

- Computer Browser
- DHCP Client
- DNS Client
- Network Connections
- Network Location Awareness
- Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
- Server
- TCP/IP Netbios helper
- Workstation
-- Start one by one if above doesn't help
- Homegroup Listener
- Homegroup Provider
- SSDP Discovery
- UPnP Device Host
- IPSec

Answer:Using laptop as Wi-fi access point

Assuming you mean the host for your router settings, and assuming you have a PCMCIA wireless network card ready and waiting in the slot, you need to cable the router to the laptop (another PCMCIA card if there isn't an NIC slot) and go through the router manufacturer;'s procedure.

Perhaps you could psot some more detail on what you have and what you'd like it to achieve.

'Matt' used to be the owner and administrator of the laptop. Gill put her name into the administrator field and changed it to her own password because she was now having the laptop from Matt. Matt's name was no longer showing anywhere as a user or admin. We thought when we rebooted the laptop it would automatically show 'Gill' and allow her to put in her password to get into the system and Windows 10. But switch on the computer it shows Matt still and wont accept any password for him now, and no longer recognises him as a user. How do we get into the laptop now? I know we've made a complete mess of it :-( Help and advise really appreciated. Thanks.

I apologise in advance if this is in the wrong forum (in which case, mods please feel free to move it), but I think the following problem is probably best suited to this forum.A friend has passed me his laptop (an ASUS K52F, running Windows 10) to sort out, as it was running slow (the usual problems, malware, unwanted programs etc). I couldn't use any boot keys to get into the factory restore, so I used Windows itself (via holding down SHIFT when clicking on RESET on the Windows shutdown menu) to get me to the factory reset menu, and the factory reset worked as it should, and now the laptop is running great. But the thing is, I want to know how to access the BIOS and the boot menu (so I can make the laptop boot from a USB stick, DVD-drive, etc). I don't need to know, as the laptop is working now, but I'm curious and I'll probably need to know it for sometime in the future. You can't always rely on Windows running when you need to accessFactory reset, so working boot keys are a must. But the problem is, no matter what keys I press when I turn on the laptop, I can't get into the BIOS or the Boot Device Menu. According to:https://kb.wisc.edu/page.php?id=58779the boot keys for the laptop (ASUS  K52F) are F8 for the boot menu (seems strange, but I've found other sites via Google that confirm the laptop uses the same key as Windows boot) and DEL for the BIOS, but whether I hold down one of these keys, or keep tapping on it when the laptop start... Hi,

I have a Netgear Wireless router nad a TrendMicro wireless adapter in my laptop. I cannot access the internet on the laptop. I have checked all the settings in TCP/IP - all fine. The router sees the laptop. The wireless utility shows excellent signal strength and connection (it shows the SSID). When I hook up the laptop directly to the router, I get great connection & the internet works great. So why can I not get internet access on wireless? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I have a gateway laptop (win xp) and would like ot make it internet accessible, by routing it to my desktop (have lyncsys router) and also being able to use it on the go - airport terminals, hotels, relative's house, etc. I'm an amatuer, so be gentle - but how do I go about hooking this all up?

thanks for your help

Answer:laptop internet access

Is your router wired or wireless? (Brand and model would be helpful).

Does your laptop have a wireless (WLAN) card preinstalled or a separate wireless card that fits into your pcmica slot?

If you have no idea, then download and install Sisoft Sandra. Run it and click on "System Information" and take a look for the hardware under the listing of "Network".

I have connected my laptop to a workgroup and I am able from the laptop to viewthe other computers in the group, however, I am not able to see the laptop from the others. I have shared a few folders on the loptop but still not able to see it from the other machines.  can anyone help ,me with this please. Pepeto

Answer:Cannot access laptop in workgroup

Pepeto, welcome to the forum, if you are using Access Connections you may need to change the printer
and file sharing options in the advanced settings of the profile you
are using. This overrides the windows settings and allows you to block
sharing if you are using an insecure / open network, i.e. hotel,
airport, coffee shop etc. Hope this helps

I know its 2006 now, but my problem goes back to november. On the 26th, my laptop wasn't able to get online. I've got Road Runner and the laptop is a Winbook J1. Now trust me, this happens off and on, and i know all i have to do is restart the modem. But the problem is, that didn't fix it. I went through all the troubleshooters and it did nothing. I system restored to the day before and it did nothing. I've been searching through my files for any that were used, created, or modified on the 26th and came across a weird "Sp2 connection patcher". Laptop Not Able to Access Homegroup...
... but the other computer on my homegroup can access it!

I have three computers in my homegroup- a workstation, an older computer running as storage, and a new laptop. All of them are running the same OS (Windows 7 Pro 64-bit) and they're all plugged into the same router (physically- not wireless!) For months, my workstation and storage computers have been able read/write data on each others drives as needed- no problem.

I just picked up a new laptop and want it to have the same capabilities. I added my laptop to the homegroup. Immediately, my workstation and storage rig showed the laptop in the windows browser under homegroup. They can read and write anything I've made available on the laptop.

However, that doesn't work going the other way.
My laptop can see the computers in Windows explorer but it cannot access them!
I have a common folder on all of my machines I'm trying to share to- on each computer I have read/write permissions granted to everyone on the homegroup.

I just copied about 30gigs of data from my workstation to my laptop and it worked!
However, trying to put something from my laptop to that workstation (in the same folder the copied content came from) results in a permissions error!

Any ideas?
Thanks!

Answer:Laptop Not Able to Access Homegroup...

MAke sure permissions on all 3 machines are set the same. I do not use HomeGroups. What I do is set Permissions for C:\ and all folders using "Everyone" as the main user and control. This rather than Administrator, etc. Works flawlessly for me even wireless.
Just my 2 cents.

I have windows 2000 professional. its a company laptop and all I can access is their websites. I need to access more then just that to do my job, and it says those websites are not available. however, I do have internet access. how can I go about doing that?? thank you in advanced.

I tried calling my company but I have been on hold for 45 minutes now

Answer:need to access more then a website with laptop

It sounds like the IT department has restricted the access on that laptop. Odds are you will need to log in as administrator to change these settings. The only probelm being, the IT department is going to be the only one with the password to that account. I hate to say it, but you are probably going to have to wait for them. Sorry.

Both computers have no trouble seeing each other on the network. The problem I am having is when I try to access my wireless laptop on the network from my Vista desktop, I am asked for a username and password. I put in the account name and password for my laptop that I use when I log on to it but it doesn't work. I hope I have expressed myself clearly and this makes sense as I am new to this stuff.

Hi guy's. Will someone please put me out of my misery? Picture the scene. One laptop and one desktop connected together via network cards hub and cat5 cables. The problem is this. The desktop can access the laptop but not the other way around. Both machines are running XP Home. When I click on view workgroup computers both are displayed. If I then click on the desktop computer I get the following message again and again. computer is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Access is denied. AARRRGH! They both belong to the same workgroup name. I'm completely stumped, and a complete beginner to this networking any advice would be gratefully received Cheers Mooky.

Answer:laptop can't access desktop

Make sure file sharing is enabled on your desktop pc. If it is already abled make sure you have actually gave permision to access a folder on the network. If you go into view workgroup computer on your dekstop pc and access the desktop from there you will be able to see what folders you have shared on the network. Then check the folders in their original locations on your dekstop pc by going to properties and then sharing and make sure you have ticked the boxes to allow access from the laptop.

I have a Dell Latitude laptop that was getting wireless access fine. I was checking out my function keys and I think I turned off my wireless antenna. When I go into Network Connections, it reads that I am connected to my wireless, but IE and Firefox will not allow me to surf. I was told that I may have hit a function key combo that turned off my antenna. Any ideas on how to turn it back on? Dell told me that Fn + F2 should do it, but where are you supposed to be when you use that keystroke? Thanks for any ideas.

Answer:No internet access on my laptop

There should be a picture of something that looks like a wireless antenna on one of the f keys. Using the function key+ another key can be used just about anytime. You might also have a switch to turn it on and off.

but, since it's showing as connected, it seems to me that it's on. you might need to further look into it. What operating system are you using?

HI! I read the whole thing but I 've certainly gotten lost in a few parts, I believe I have a similar issue. I have laptop with windows 7 and it ha dbeen connecting to wifi for almost a year already with no problem, all of a sudden for the past few days it started showing the DAMN yellow triangle and its always "no internet access" , cant surf the web, but my iphone and my neighbour who im splitting the bill with are connecting just fine. Also when connected to an ethernet cable it works (it actually very clearly show the name of my wireless network with the words "no internet access" beneath and then the name of the wired network HOME 20b2 with the words "internet access" beneath) and thats how im typing this right now. I havent made any changes in the last two days. I downloaded Advanced system care 7, driver booster and malware fighter all from IObit but that was last week I dont see why it didnt make the wifi faili right away assuming it was that... this just happened 2 days ago,, the only thing downloaded by my brother was the facebook video callin add on which I uninstall already to rule it out. I have ran ipconfig and as far as I understand (which is not a lot) eveything seems to be in order,,,, dhcp is enabled....,, I checked the properties of the network and both the internet protocol TCP/IPv4 and TCP/IPv6 are enabled and set to automatically obtain IP address and DNS server...) ive tried other things here and there,, like uninstall... Answer:Laptop with no internet access

Advance System Care years ago used to be ok but tends to be mainstream and allows third party applications to install on there own if you are not careful. Get rid of anything Iobit related that is al junk I dont care what anybody says I remove it because after careful research Malwarebytes will tell you that it is malware. Anyway sounds like you could have an issue with a virus or malware being what you have downloaded. I would try to run malwarebytes to see if anything comes up if you are not familiar with it here is a link to download it. I understand you do not have internet so you will have to download it to a flash drive and run it on the computer. Post what it finds and we will go from there. If you can wire in and get internet let mek now that also. But it sounds like that wont work either due to the nature of your issue. http://ninite.com/malwarebytes/

Also what I would do is try to attempt a system restore back to when the first issue came up. That way you might be able to go back in time before the issues but if it is a virus this wont work. Just an idea./

Can anyone help me?
I recently purchased a laptop from a company that i used to work for which went into administration. I can log on with my details as normal, but I am unable to install software or complete any upgrades as it keeps asking for Administration password. I have tried calling the IT people that took care of the laptops for this but they are not responding back regarding the password. When I use to have upgrades done the IT people would do this remotely. I have contacted Toshiba, who have said I will need to order a recovery disk, but this will wipe out all data. Does someone know of less drastic action?

Running Windows Pro 64bit

Any help will be appreciated

If it was truly sold or donated to you from your last company, you must have them fix this issue. Having us provide you with any information to bypass the local security set on the laptop would be unethical and possibly illegal.

Dell 600m Model PP05L
I have wireless in the house. My netbook connects as Home Network and can access the 'net.
The Dell connects to my provider via wireless but does so as Unidentified Network. And, while I am connected, I don't have access to the 'net.
I've tried everything that I know to change the Unidentified Network to Home Network. It just isn't taking the change.
I've also tried this solution from Technet:
To do this on your local server , follow these steps:
1. Start --> run --> MMC --> press enter
2. In MMC console , from menu file select Add/Remove Snap-in
3. Select Group Policy Object editor --> Press Add --> select Local computer --> press OK -->press OK
4. Open Computer configration -->Windows Settings -->Security Settings -->select Network list manager policies on the right Side you will see options for :
double click -->Unidentified networks

Unfortunately Group Policy Object isn't listed. So I'm stuck there.
Anyone have suggestions on how to proceed from here?

Have you tried to uninstall/install the newest network drivers from DELL website ?

Do you have a good signal ? Did you try moving closer to the signal source ?

Do you have an valid internal IP assigned to your interface, IP + Subnet + Gateway + DNS ?

Something like 192.168.x.x. or 10.x.x.x

Hello to all. I was wondering if someone can please please help me fix my laptop. I own an HP dv8301nr laptop with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 and it normally worked fairly well until one day I came home and found it turned off (as I usually leave it on with the screen saver running so I can have easy access as the start-up takes forever). Whenever I started the laptop as normal, it would go to the XP login screen but my username was no longer listed and the screen is blue with only a small Microsoft Windows XP logo on the background.

The laptop won't start in safe mode of any kind. I select the option and it acts like it'll start but brings me back to the screen to select safe mode, safe mode with networking, and safe mode with command prompt. Selecting all of those options do the same thing and just bring back to the select screen. It won't work either in the Last Known Good Configurations option. At the blue login screen with the XP logo I've tried control+alt+delete many times but nothing comes up at all so I can't login as an administrator.

I really need to get into my HP as it holds over 3000 songs for my itunes, school papers and school projects, pictures, music and other things I highly value. Can someone please help me fix my laptop so I can be able to re-sync my ipod and be able to do research and papers for school?? I would be nothing less than highly and greatly appreciative.

Sincerely,
Mahgeetah

Firstly, i want to say that i have read the "first thing" but i cant post any of the logs as i cannot download the dds or GMER due to the problem i am having.

Secondly, this laptop is owned and used by my girlfriends sister. So i do not no exactly what has been done for this problem to occur.

Basically the problem is, the computer is unusable as no text, dialogue boxes, start menu, folders, windows or address bars show up. I try to open folders and the window opens but the contents don't show up in any legible way.
The address bar of the internet browser is just black.
I click the start menu, and nothing happens.
I right click anything and a small box with an up and down arrow appears, but nothing else.
The icons on the desktop have no text below them.

I really am unsure what more to share with you, what could have caused this, or even how to begin solving the problem as I can't access anything.

The laptop is running windows 7, is less than a year old.

Let me know if you need anything and i will try my best to provide it, but everything is a challenge because i obviously cannot access anything.

Many thanks in advance if you can help.
Cheers
Simon

Earthlink is my ISP, and I am having trouble with my wireless router. 3-5 times per week, my laptop is unable to access the network. Each time, I am forced to unplug the router and then plug back in to get wireless network working again. Desktop with ethernet connection to network never has problems. Help?!

Answer:Laptop access problems

Are there any other differing factors a twork when this happens?- Just booted the router?- Switched your laptop's wireless on after the OS has booted?- Another network that becomes active in the vicinity? Those are just some of the things that can cause this.

New to this subject so easily confused.I am attempting to access the internet from my Hewlet Packard laptop - vista SP1. With an ethernet cable attached to my PC - XP sp3.ISP is orange. The laptop identifies a network and attempts to connect but fails. the diagnosis says can't find anything wrong. On the PC the LAN properties say limited or no connectivity. I ask it to repair but it says windows could not repair, renewing IP address could not be completed.I have tinkered with this a lot over a period of time so it might well be that I have to start again from scratch. Hope somebody can help.

Answer:can't access internet through with my laptop

Try turning off your router/modem for a few minutes to allow it to re-set itself.

I have a group of Dell Inspiron 5100 laptops that I need to setup so that they have NO access to the Internet. Unfortunately, all the accounts on the laptops are 'adminstrative' accounts so that a group of applications with unsigned macros can run. Is there a way I setup the laptops so that only another 'savy' tech person would be able to change it back?

I already uninstalled IE from the windows components and gave the nic a 10.10.10.10 ip address.

But I can see them, the panel of users, going back in & adding the IE component and using a USB wireless card to access the Internet with these laptops. Is there a way to prevent this?

looking for answers......

Answer:How do I Set up a Laptop with no access to the Internet

this always depends on how clever the users are. we restrict our users to power users which leaves us more options.
you could for example set a proxy address which leads to nowhere or just 127.0.0.1 and then remove the connections tab from internet exploiter with a group policy.
I guess there are alot of different methods to disable internet access but you need to find a way thats really hard to fix for them.
one thing that goes through my mind.... do you use a switch or something that you can configure in your network or between the networks your users are connected to? I think you could disable forwarding request from the local network to the internet or proxy server as a general option there as well.

post back if you need more optiions!

Hi, I have acquired an old ex government toshiba laptop at auction. It would have been previously networked & accessed via username & password. I have been informed the operating system would have been Windows 2003.
I wish to use it as a 2nd home PC but cannot access the drives because at startup I am asked for a username & password. This would have been generated by some unknown government employee. I thought this would have been deleted at time of decommissioning but apparently not on this one. How do I gain access ? any assistance greatly appreciated as am copping merry hell from other half for wasting $$.

<Don't have internet access in my laptop when I tried connecting to my cousin's DSL internet connection.>

Hi guys!

My cousin has a desktop with a dsl internet connection while I don't so one time I tried inserting the internet cable in my laptop's port hoping that I would be able to connect to the web and get some updates on my anti-virus program. But to my dismay, I was not able to secure a connection thus failed to update.

I talked to a friend of mine regarding this problem and he told me that it has something to do with REFERENCE Number. He did not explain it to me so I'm hoping that you could help me with this.

What should I do to have internet connection using my cousin's DSL?

Thanks!

Answer:Don't have internet access in my laptop...

Welcome to Seven Forums,

Start off with Power cycle:
Turn off your computer and unplug the modem. Turning your modem off may not be enough to get it to restart itself, so always unplug its power source. Leave your modem off for 1 minute, then plug it back in and turn on your computer.

Do an ipconfig /all from your computer, compare the output of yours and your cousin's.
Click on Start => in search box type cmd press enter. From the black screen, type the word ipconfig /all and press enter. Right click on the black screen or Command prompt then choose Select All and Paste the results onto your Post.

You may also try these commands from your computer. Click on Start, type cmd, from the command prompt type:
ipconfig /release then press enter
ipconfig /renew then press enter

As the title says my laptop cannot access any of the computers that we have networked to our router but all of the computers can access the laptop just fine. It use to be able to access them just fine till a couple of weeks back something happened, there's no restore points so I can't do anything about it.

I know I could possibly reformat and hope that installing xp works, but I wouldn't like that to be the only solution to fix the network problems with the laptop all the time. All the other computers and the other laptop use Windows Vista Home edition either 32 bit or 64 bit. Both using wired and wireless connection the laptop still won't show the other computers in the network. It can access the internet but it just can't access the computers, any suggestions or ideas?

Answer:XP Laptop can't access network but network can access laptop

Answer:internet access for laptop

On your laptop's end you'll need a wireless network card. It will automatically join the network with the strongest signal and you can then surf the web freely as long as your in range of an open access point.

For networking using CAT-5 cable (the big blue telephone cord lookin stuff) you'll either have a connection in the back of your laptop or you'll have to buy a second networking card (doh!) for your laptop..this one with a plug for CAT-5 obviously. You may be able to buy network cards that are both wired and wireless but I'm not sure on that. Check the Linksys website.

Linksys sells these and you'd be best off buying from them for compatibility reasons. With the included CD it basically walks you through setting it up and physically getting the laptop on the network. The biggest trouble is finding a spot where you can get online...And the wireless cards for laptops generally have crappy range.

With Windows 2000 or XP you'll have two network connections which you can then rename to "Wired" and "Wireless" for instance, so its less confusing. It will switch connections on the fly depending on what connection your using, and this way you can have the wired network on a set IP address and let the wireless roam.

I have a friend who has a 14 year old kid whom they believe is engaged in some devious behavior. They have asked me if it would be possible to get into, at least, a guest account on the laptop. They purchased the laptop, but the kid set the password and she cannot get in. Are there any work arounds, in the bios possibly, to be able to get around the password? They actually offered me a decent fee if I was able to even get them able to log on as gues, but I assusme you need to actually get in first, to set up another user account.

Check that the particular address isn't being blocked by the Hosts file:C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\HostsIt is a plain text file with no extension that can be opened with Notepad. If there's an entry for 127.0.0.1 followed by the site you want to access, delete the entry, save and exit from the file.

I just purchased this computer a few days ago and I cannot seem to access my bank's website. I tried using Internet Explorer and get "This page can?t be displayed", and get similar messages with Firefox and Chrome. Ii try to "fix connection problems" as the option shown on the site, but it comes back that it could not identify the problem. Initially I was able to gain access to the site when I initially installed Firefox but after the first restart I began getting the error in firefox. I tried uninstalling Firefox and then retinstalling and I could access the site until it I restarted the computer again. I can always access the mobile site from the Lenovo laptop with no issues. The regular site works fine on another laptop I have, so I know that it is this computer and not the site. I tried uninstalling my virus software and turned off windows firewall. Tried a system restore and tried made sure all windows updates have been installed. The website is www.peoples.com Peoples United Bank.

Having a problem with one laptop that can't access certain websites on my home wifi network. Other devices on the same network have no problem. If I plug it into the ethernet cable on the modem, it works just fine. I've tried a dns flush, changing dns servers, rebooting the modem, updating the driver on the wireless adapter, switching browsers, system restore, scanning for malware, and no luck.
When I try to ping those sites, it seems that it resoles the hostname and comes back with an IP address, but then the ping fails. If I try a tracert, it fails right after the router.
If I put the laptop on a different wi-fi network, it works fine. I tried turning off the firewall in the router, and removed McAfeee, and turned off windows defender. Still nothing. It seems like the problem isn't entirely with the router, or entirely with the wireless adapter, but somehow the way they work together. Anyone else come across this and have any other suggestions as to how to fix it?

Answer:Can't access certain sites from one laptop

Do you mean it actually works and connects to some websites and not others.

I've already posted this problem but left it a little while and I'm not sure if anyone is paying attention to the old post.

Anyway, I can't access the Internet either wirelessly or wired. I'm running an ethernet cable directly from a SpeedTouch DSL modem into my laptop. When I ping www.google.com I get partial replies. Like 2 out of 4. Internet Explorer shows Web site found, waiting for reply but never proceeds to display the webpage. I've removed all bad objects found in Malwarebytes and SuperAntispyware. No effect.

No firewall is present as I totally removed the Trend Micro Package.

In fact it hasn't been logged on since February last.I am on bt Broadband with a Voyager 205 Router connected through the USB2 circuit. The PC runs Windows XP SP2, with Adaware and M$ Anti-spy.I am also running Norton Internet Security 2006.I have the Ethernet connection free on the Router, as well as USB2 and Ethernet on the PC and Laptop. The security on the laptop hasn't been updated since it was last on line, nor has Windows. My question:How can the Laptop hide behind the PC's Security Screen whilst I update Windows on the net?

Answer:Laptop rarely needs to access the Net

If the ethernet port is harware firewalled it would be OK .. check the manual to see if this is true.

I just got a new laptop, it is some kind of Sony Vaio and it uses Windows 7, I'd give more info, but I don't know what to look for... The PC I'm using now is some kind of Gateway and it uses Vista. My router is a Linksys WRT150-N.

The problem: my laptop is not connected to the internet.

When I turned on the laptop for the first time it told me that I need to connect an Ethernet cable from the router to the laptop, I'm confused by this, but this is what I did, I found a cable that I used to use to connect from my router to my Xbox 360 for Xbox live, (is this an Ethernet cable?) and used it to connect my router to my laptop. The laptop seems to recognize the existence of my router (as well as a bunch of other random routers) but when I try to connect to it, it says the router has No Internet Access.

If you need any more information to solve this problem just tell me what to look for as I'm a little confused on what specific information I need to give and where to find that information in the first place.

Thanks...

I have setup a ad hoc but my android phone does not suport that type of network. I understand that 'Connectify' will do what i need but it doesn't work with XP. I have a Linksys WAP54G and my phone works fine with it, but why use that when I have the extra adapter in my PC.
Is there a way to do this or do I just use the Linksys?
