fixing highlighted cursor errors

Question: fixing highlighted cursor errors

Is there a recommended
software application that can quickly diagnose and fix highlighted
cursor errors?
Is the program PC Health Advisor safe to run?
I found this webpage and I wanted to make sure it was recommended by microsoft.

Preferred Solution: fixing highlighted cursor errors

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

There are other programs out there that are free. But why do you think something is wrong with your registry? If your machine is slow have you looked at doing a defrag? Or other system maintenaince? How about running you antivirus and malware programs? Do they show your system to be clean?

Hi,

i've been having some problems with windows, so i decided to run chkdsk from cmd. It told me that i had errors that needed to be fixed with chkdsk/f, so i did that, rebooted, it ran through its checks, booted, all seemed well. i ran chkdsk again from cmd, it started deleting a load of 'index files' (think thats what it was, index something), and then said there were errors and it needed to do chkdsk/f. i repeated this twice more, and it still said do chkdsk/f.

i then tried right clicking my XP volume, going to properties, and doing error checking through the tools tab. i guess this is the same as chkdsk, but hey. after that it said i needed to reboot (well well!) and so it did, and did a chkdsk before booting, but this time it had 5 steps instead of 3, and on step 4 it took AGES.. after that i went to bed.

i did chkdsk just now, and it said there are errors in the volume that cant be fixed, and to use chkdsk/f. .. . .. i havent done so, as i guess id end up in that never ending loop again.

does anyone have any idea what might be going on, or what i can do to fix this? is there any software that runs through your windows install and fixes errors?

would be so greatful for any help, this is really pecking my head!

thanks for reading,
Jon

I have been working on my son's laptop. He has been having slowness problems. I'm an old tech who worked at help desks and managed networks when DOS & Novel were the in thing. I haven't keep up with everything but I have a good knowledge of troubleshooting.
When I started his cmputer things moved really, really slow. Painfully slow with one program closing and leaving part of itself on top of another program. All the programs closed piece by piece like a curtain being pulled down.
I checked the hard drive for space: it is 40GB with 23.3 GB free. He has 1.50GHz 240 MB of RAM. I then checked devices to be sure I didn't have any splats. All was fine. I ran defrag a couple of times and then ran chkdsk /f.
This is a Toshiba Satellite running XP Home service pack 3.
I then removed all the programs that he doesn't use in Add or remove softwear. I then went to the root directory/programs and manually removed the directories that were not cleanly deleted in add or remove...
I did another defrag. and chldsk /f again.
I downloaded a trial version of kaspersky (which I use on my computers). I ran a deep scan and it found 4 trojens and a bunch of lesser evils. The problems were not cured and I found a kaspersky forum where this problem was being discussed... most of it was over my head so I emailed tech support.
The Tech sent me a personal recommendation with a link to ComboFix. I read all the instructions and thought-like many techs that I knew what I was doingt... Read more

okay, there are two distinct problems going on simultaneously. many have asked on problems that were first attributed to the wormblaster virus and those solutions did not work. much thanks to those who gave suggestions.

i stumbled across a solution yesterday on accident.

to begin with, my problems were originating anytime i opened an internet browser. within a few minutes, svchost.exe would give me an error message and i would be unable to cut, copy, paste, drag drop, some java was disabled, new windows couldnt be opened from within the browser, a LOT of problems.

i performed two actions:
1. downloaded and installed: Windows2000-KB823980-x86-ENU.exe
2. downloaded and installed: windows 2k service pack 4

once installed and after a reboot, i have had my system up since yesterday with no problems. since i did the two tasks back to back, and i downloaded the service pack as a file instead of allowing it to install as it downloaded, the process was easier.
feel free to correct me on the order of how those two should be performed, but all i know is that i can surf the web without having to reboot every ten minutes.

I have a Mesh matrix Pc, using XP as the operating system and Aol as my ISP. For the last few months, I have been plagued with a flow of Run Time Errors, currently of nearly 20 different messages.I have tried various methods of stopping these messages, including the use of RegCure etc, but without success. They only seem to occur when I am using the Aol software - which is nearly all the time. I have contacted Technical Support at Aol, asking about patches, but they deny there is any problem with their software and say I should get a local engineer to fix the problem. But I don't know of a competent engineer and it seems to me that maybe someone in the Forum might be able to tell how to get rid of these Errors. Please, can anybody advise what it is I need to do to fix the problem?

Answer:Fixing Run Time Errors

If you can manage without AOL's software do so, that might solve the problem in one go. Can you be more specific regarding the errors - when do they occur, on specific pages, at random, what is the precise wording?Run a system file check; click hereFull scans with antivirus and antispyware are worth doing too.

After listening to Kim Kommando last night, I used Uniblue to check for registry errors and I have over 550. But, ComputerHope instructions say I should NOT attempt to fix registry errors unless I know what I am doing. Since I do NOT know what I am doing, how can I eliminate my registry errors? Thanks.

Answer:Fixing Registry Errors

I hope you didn't pay any money for that Uniblue scamware. This site takes a dim view of magic registry cleaners and the way their vendors try to scare you into paying for them. Every Windows registry has so-called "errors", and people who want to make a fast buck try to get you to buy their useless software to "fix" what doesn't need to be fixed. If your computer is operating normally, then just ignore them. Even if it isn't working normally, these trashy products won't actually help. Just Google for "Uniblue scam" if you don't believe me. Uninstall this product and don't worry about your registry. And stop listening to that cockamamie Kim Komando trash. (She has a weekly call-in talk radio show in the USA where she pretends that paid-for spots are actually "advice".) Some quotes I found:QuoteKim Komando is full of crapQuotein Komando's world, selling ad space to the highest bidder is just fine.Well, it's fine as long as you're not taking money to write a bit of an advertorial for something, of course. Phooey on that.Quotehave you ever listened to Komando's radio show? It's full of advice that anyone with access to a search engine can find. She's all about marketing and her radio shows comes across as a blasted infomercial.

I know vptray.exe is an application for symantec but it needs to be fixed. For some reason after anywhere from an hour to a few hours of having my computer on a message pops up and says vptray.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close, this is usually followed by a whole slew of errors ending with explorer.exe. Whenever this occurs I can not use anymore programs, so I am thinking it is linked to vptray.exe, can someone help.

I've run defrag and defraggler on my wifes desktop and see a lot of fragmented files left over.

I've seen ads from Uniblue for a registry scanner and repair for 29.99 for 3 computers.

Does anyone know if this is worth the money and does it really work?

I can see about 40 fragments after defragging but the free uniblue scan says there are over 400.

Your opinions would be helpful.

Thanks.

Answer:Fixing Registry Errors

This is what me and BC think of any registry cleaner and scanners:Bleeping Computer DOES NOT recommend the use of registry cleaners/optimizers for several reasons:? Registry cleaners are extremely powerful applications that can damage the registry by using aggressive cleaning routines and cause your computer to become unbootable. The Windows registry is a central repository (database) for storing configuration data, user settings and machine-dependent settings, and options for the operating system. It contains information and settings for all hardware, software, users, and preferences. Whenever a user makes changes to settings, file associations, system policies, or installed software, the changes are reflected and stored in this repository. The registry is a crucial component because it is where Windows "remembers" all this information, how it works together, how Windows boots the system and what files it uses when it does. The registry is also a vulnerable subsystem, in that relatively small changes done incorrectly can render the system inoperable. For a more detailed explanation, read Understanding The Registry.? Not all registry cleaners are created equal. There are a number of them available but they do not all work entirely the same way. Each vendor uses different criteria as to what constitutes a "bad entry". One cleaner may find entries on your system that will not cause problems when removed, another may not find the same entries, and still anothe... Read more

How can I check to see what type of errors I have on my system and how can I go about fixing them?

I'm pretty "slow" when it comes to computers, so I don't know what my RAM is or about drives or anything, I just know I have a Windows 98 SE.
I definitely know there is something wrong because my computer freezes when I try to shut it off.

I reinstalled windows 98 last week maybe, and have been able to bring back the stuff I use the most. There is one program (The Print Shop Deluxe) that I use a lot for pictures, but it's been shutting of on it's own. I don't know why.
OK, when I'm done using my defective print shop and I try shutting down the computer, it just freezes. It freezes on the window screen, and I can't use cntrl, alt, Del. I can't turn it off with the on/off button, I have to press the reboot button and then the power button in order to completely turn it off.

Can anyone help me as to where to begin to try and fix my computer or will it be better to take it some where and get it fixed? (I would like to do it myself, that way I learn how to do it)

Also, what is hijack this and would I be able to get help like that or no?

Any help will be much appreciated, Thanx in advance.

Is there any site or way I can fix Windows XP errors for free? Some sites say free scan and then tell you have thousands of errors but want you to pay $ for them to fix rhe issues.I do not know these errors really exist, I do know some most likely do. I did a few scans the the number of errors is very high, but also very different with each one. Both free download scans that scanned my PC today said I had anywhere up to 8456 errors (activeX cleaner) and System cleaner said 1103. One site fixed some for free it said, but I don't know for sure if anything was fixed. I still only have 6% space available on my computer. Is there a way to fix errors for free? Debbie

Answer:Fixing Windows XP errors?

Avoid these sites. Most of the "errors" they find are not real and the remainder are of little consequence.

Problem

So I'm very familiar with the Windows Vista black screen + white cursor issue and have documented many ways of resolving it on my end, but this one I cannot. This post revolves around a Windows Vista w/SP2 x86 system with all the latest updates and patches after a number of trojans were removed like zero access, Zbot, etc., and lots of toolbars and savings junk removed properly through Programs and Features.

Backstory

Booted system up and it spawned numerous COM Surrogates in task manager using up all the memory. This lead me to run a number of malware removal applications / scans which found a few sneaky trojans which other applications would not find and after removing them, the system worked great.

In fact, the system does work great, I can run Windows updates, the system performs as well as it should... except for one problem.

If I run sfc /scannow it will state that rpcss.dll hash is off and will replace it with a proper version. Once rpcss.dll is fixed, I get the Vista black screen w/white cursor.

Answer:Cleaned system, but fixing rpcss.dll = Vista Black Screen white cursor

Hi,

You got hit with the latest version of Zekos. One of your system files (rpcss.dll) has been patched.
You'll need more advanced tools to replace that file.

Please follow the instructions in THIS GUIDE starting at Step 6. If you cannot complete a step, skip it and continue.
Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it HERE. Please include a description of your computer issues, what you have done to resolve them, and a link to this topic.
If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.
It would be helpful if you post a note here once you have completed the steps in the guide and have started your topic in malware removal. Good luck and be patient. If HelpBot replies to your topic, PLEASE follow Step One so it will report your topic to the team members.

WinXPSP2

During a recent backup procedure I got an error message that said it could not read from certain sectors of the hard drive. I ran chkdsk on the C drive by using run/cmd/chkdsk c: and it said there were problems in the volume bitmap, and to run chkdsk with the /F option to repair them. I did, and rebooted the pc, and the scan started. It finished, but I didn't see any indication it had fixed anything. Ran chkdsk again, and same problem showed up.

Any help on what to do to fix these errors - chkdsk apparently can't!

Thanks.

Answer:Slow start up, many errors need fixing

Here is the problem, from start to now

A few days ago i turned on my computer and the time between when windows welcome screen closes (and desktop background is displayed) to when the icons and start menu show up is now taking about 16 minutes. I have no idea why. I checked the task manager as that still opens and explorer.exe is running, i also did a check error scan thing. I started windows in safe mode and the problem does not occur, only occurs when windows is run in normal mode.

i tried going to START> RUN and type msconfig...click on START-UP tab and DISABLE ALL

did not help

I went on to msconfig and disabled all the options under the services tab. This stopped my 16 minute delay from occuring, but at what cost. Now that all the services are disabled, what is my computer not doing that it did before?

Its not a specific service, so i think i might have too many service running or something

dont think its a driver-related problem

In device manager there is a conflict caused by Microsoft Tun Miniport Adapter #2 under Network adapters. disabling it did nothing and i am unable to uninstall. I could swear it hasnt always been there!

i have ran the latest updated version of AVG, ad-aware, spybot and housecall.

And above is a latest log from HijackThis.

Can someone go through and help

thanks alot

Lots more detail is here and it was suggested Zekos was the culprit:

The system checks out clean by a long list of malware removal tools (see above) but replacing rpcss.dll with a clean version results in a Windows Vista SP2 black screen w/white mouse cursor.

I was pre-testing a card that I got from china to see if it was what I ordered before trying to sell the rest of the cards on ebay, the card said it was 64 gigs (Fat32) when I looked at it on my windows 7 PC.

Next I put a song on it and it seemed to be working ok and then I tried for format the card.
While it was Formating it went to (Default exFAT) 64 gigs but I knew my MP3 player will not be able to handle exFAT so I tried to use a tool to change its format back to (Fat32).

After clicking format I saw that it was taking a vary long time to format but then I saw I did not check quick format so I hit stop and nothing happened. so I hit X on the tool and still nothing happened..

so I clicked ctrl-alt-exit and made it stop that way.. but after that it then said the card needs to be formated so I tried to format it back to (Default exFAT) but befor clicking format it now only says it will format to 8 gigs and not 64 gigs o.O.. so I was thinking maybe that is just a error and will be fixed after clicking format.

so I clcik format and it gives me a error...it says (Windows was unable to complete the format)

so how do I get it to format back to 64 gigs and back to Fat32?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And here is my 2nd question..

Rule number one:- if it isn't broken then don't fix it.

The issue here is windows will not format Fat32 above 32gb, so invoking the formatter when all you needed was to delete the file was a major mistake.

Hi,

I've got quite a few problems with my PC at the moment, so I'll try to list them clearly with all relevant info. Firstly, my PC specs:

Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.86GHz (1066FSB)

Connect3D ATI Radeon X1950 XT 256MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB ST3320620AS SATA-II

Hiper HPU-4K580-MK Type R 580W Modular

Asus P5B Deluxe (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX (4x512MB)

I've got my chip overclocked, to 2.4Ghz. The bios settings I had used were: host clock speed = 342, with multiplier x7. Giving approximately 2.4Ghz. This gave a weird DRAM frequency of around 840Mhz, which I was told isn't a good operating frequency for my ram. So I've changed my host clock to 400, and multipler to x6, which gives me exactly 2.4Ghz cpu speed, and lets me have 800Mhz or 1000Mhz DRAM frequency.

Now the first problem I was having was random BSODs, which I found out was likely due to my ram not running at its optimum frequencey (800 or 1000). So I changed the host clock, and I have to say I've not had a BSOD since. But the problems are far from over!

When I had my previous bios settings giving me a weird DRAM freq (host clock was at 342 like i said) I was able to play COD4 smooth as anything, really nicely. However upon changing these settings so my CPU is pretty much running at the same speed, and my DRAM is either 800 or 1000, I get awful frame rates on COD4, as low as ... Read more

Are you using a Retail Windows disc?

Item 1 is covered here> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953356

However, multiple errors typically indicate a hardware issue (ie: motherboard, RAM, power supply).

Hello everyone,

I am new to this site and hope that I will learn a lot. I have not been able to make a purchase or pay a bill online using my Visa Check Card or Credit Card. I can input all of the cardnumbers except for the very last digit (the 16th one). At that point, I am disconnected from my Internet. Does anyone have any idea how to repair this. I use Windows XP (Home). I appreciate any and all assitance.

I don't know what could be causing your very strange problem but would suggest you follow these instructions for your own security:Is your Anti-virus program current and updated? If not you can download a free anti-virus program here (US Link): AVG FreeWhen you have downloaded and installed it you need to go online to register it and update it. (It will probably prompt you to do this.)Once you have installed AVG uninstall your old Anti-Virus software because you should only have one running on your system.Do you have any anti-spyware installed? If not download and update all of the following:Ad-Aware SE from http://www.lavasoft.de/

This morning, I booted up my laptop, windows 10, Toshiba satellite p50-c-18q, and it booted into auto recovery. From this screen it switches to fixing disk errors, where it sits for > 7 hours. When trying to access the user files on another computer, so that I may at least recover my data, the user folder is missing, although the disk still seems to think that it has almost 300 GB of data on it.

Where do I go from here? I'm so f* fed up with Windows, and computers in general at this point, as they go from find to borked overnight more regularly than they ever should. Can I recover my data, if not my installation? Disk is a hybrid 1TB drive.

Answer:Fixing disk errors loop, users folder missing in 2nd comp.

Hello Templar3lf Welcome to the Ten Forums!

If you had the 10 media made up for a custom install you have the solution onhand. If you saw the recovery media created using the tool Toshiba provides at their support site at least you could use that as well for arriving at the same recovery options found in the F8 boot menu. Another option for live recovery and repair would be the Recovery Drive option using an 8gb or larger usb flash drive you would need to boot live from.

I saw your other thread but am replying here since you will need to repair the OS locally on the laptop itself. When not able to bring up the F8 menu you then need to boot live from removable media. You might even have to take the files from a Recovery Drive's flash drive and see them burned to a bootable dvd-r disk if not able to boot from a flash drive. A new Toshiba model released in September with 10 is unable to boot from a flash drive while able to call up the boot device menu likely due to the UEFI vs Bios Legacy type problem.

Once booted live you have a few considerations including the Reset this PC option that will bring everything back to factory fresh status when that option loads a fresh image of the OS onto the drive nuking everything you have put on it so far. That besides a cleanr install with a separate 10 dvd or usb key is a last resort type option however.

With the drive loaded with errors as mentioned the command prompt option would be a good place to start where you can get the Disk Ch... Read more

Hello Everyone, this is my firs t request. I spent two days fixing the Blue Screen Errors (BSoD) on my computer but one thing keeps bothering me is that everytime I start or reboot my computer, it gives me TWO OPTIONS; 1. windows xp home edition 2.windows setup (default). I want to disable the second option. I had attempted to re-install windows but later changed my mind, and found an alternative to fix the Blue Screen Errors. I believe the reason Blue Screen Errors (BSoD) showed up was that I had created a new user profile and copied over old user profile files so improperly that it duplicated drivers, and gave me a list of STOP errors with blue screens for both new and old users.  The bootini file currently shows: [Boot Loader]Timeout=5Default=C:\$WIN_NT$.~BT\BOOTSECT.DAT[Operating Systems]multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetectDoes anyone know what to edit for the bootini file so that I don't get two options at the startup??? My system details are: IdeaPad, S10-4231Windows XP Home Edition SP34-year old Thanks,Lenovo User

Answer:Window setup option on the boot menu after fixing Blue Screen Errors

Hi

Welcome To Lenovo Community

As per the Default Sample of Boot.ini the default value after timeout section needs to be modified

[boot loader]timeout=30default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS[operating systems]multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect

Before making any changes please save a copy of Boot.ini

Save a Backup Copy of Boot.ini
<script type="text/javascript">//
loadTOCNode(2, 'summary');
// </script>
Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

-or-
Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl, and then click OK.

On the Advanced tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
Under System Startup, click Edit. This opens the file in Notepad ready for editing.
In Notepad, click File on the Menu bar, and then click Save As.
Right click in an empty area of the Save As dialog box, point to New in the context menu, and then click Folder.
Type a name for the new folder, for example temp, and then press the ENTER key to create the folder named temp.
Double-click the new folder named temp, and then click the Save button to save a backup copy of the Boot.ini file.

 Please try modifying the following

 Default=C:\$WIN_NT$.~BT\BOOTSECT.DAT
 to

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS

Hope This Helps
Cheers!!!

I think this is a virus behavior. Recently whenever I type in microsoft waord or notepad or fill up webforms in IE, the cursor jumps anywhere in the previous sentences, or highlights the last some letters somewhere and the entire type goes haywaire. Now Also this is getting typed anywhere and I have to delete, retype. very painful. I have Norton antivirus 2005, zerospyware (after reading the latest article in your mag only), adware, spybot and zone alarm, all fully updated. and none have been able to pick up a virus/spyware after a thorough system scan. Just bought an Acer S3 i3. Set up has taken me over 6 hours. 1st - major problems getting internet access - but having removed McAfee all seems ok.

I have two major problems:

1. Cursor will freeze ever few minutes causing the machine to hang. Only solution is to hold down power and restart.

2. Tried installing office 2010. Have downloaded set up file and inserted product key. Once installation completes and I try to launch a program I get an error message - c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\wwlib.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. Error status 0x000012f.

Hope someone can help!

thanks

Answer:Cursor keeps freezing + Office 2010 installation errors

Hello!

Do you have everything updated with Windows and drivers? This could be a potential cause.

I suggest you try redownloading the Office 2010 installer, it sounds it could be corrupted.

I know it says to install and run the program in the sticky but i can't get into windows

PC has been running fine until recently. I have been getting occasional random BSOD errors over the last few days which I didn't think much about, but today I started getting a lot of them, occurring a few minutes after boot. After a few restarts I then started getting a black screen with cursor when the login screen should appear. The jingle still sounds. Some of the BSOD errors I wrote down.

Bad pool header
PFN corrupt
Memory management
0xc000021a

The black screen will not respond to CTRL ALT DEL etc. I tried following steps on some posts to enter password blind by pressing space /ctrl but this does not work for me. The screen stays on indefinitely.

I have also tried chkdsk on C drive. No errors. I tried system restore, but it says I have no checkpoints. I thought I did have it switched on but I guess not.
I tried start up repair but it says it cannot fix the problem. I don't have a system image either (I know, I'm a fool). I tried safe mode and low res mode. Same black screen just with a larger cursor.

Apart from reinstalling windows again, i can't think of any other things to try.

Any help would be appreciated.

Is there a way to cause a row to automatically become highlighted or formatted in a desired way if one cell it that row meets a given criteria?
Example:

Question: Highlighted Tabs

Hi am i having probelems with the bottom tabs of windows, they are alwayshighlighted (screenshot- http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/1857/mypc0gw.png)I have to click on this tabs multiple times when they become highlighted, i donot know how to make them not do this, could you give me any type of solution soi can get rid of this promlem (when i click on sumthing i want to to do itstraight away, i have to click these tabs about 3 or 4 times before they comeback up and sometimes it doesnt even come up then i have to minimize everthingto see what i want/need to see)

Answer:Highlighted Tabs

Not sure what the problem is, but I can tell you that excessive "clicking" will only slow the process. Every time you click, you're sending a command to the processor. The more clicks, the more commands, the longer time frame for the system to catch up with you.

(This is such a strange problem.... and it goes along in conjunction with more highlighting weirdness.)

I have been online for awhile and surfing sites, etc.......
then all of a sudden, in trying to highlight a portion of a sentence (i.e. in my email program) more highlights than I want and I can't UN highlight it. then when I try again... MORE highlights and more and so on.... so I closed out of that window and tried to click on Norton to clear out INTERNET cache and ALL the shortcuts on the desktop highlight and are active and a window pops up that asks "Do I really want to open all 16 processes at once....blah blahblah..." because all are hight lighted and want to open when I click ONE of the shortcuts. And they won't UNHIGHLIGHT just like the other highlight issue.i restarted and that didn't help either. I did manage to open Norton via the Start Menu/Programs/Norton and go in that way. Ran the virus check... no virus found..... Cleared the cache. etc. Problem still remains.

I ran the Adaware also. I can run Spybot too ....but maybe I need someone to take a look at a Hijckackthis file... would that show up anything?

This same problem has happened before but went away after de-web-junk-ing and restart.

What could it be? I don't think I have over heating .. I have about 6 fans in there.

Finally, after playing around, I right clicked on an icon and went to properties. The icons show to be hidden. (I have my computer folders to show hidden file folders). I unchecked the "Hidden" button and, waalaa! The icon appears in full color. Now to figure out how to unhide all of them at one time. Thanks

Hi there, I am having a lot of trouble with this adware. It barely allows me to post this thread because I am lagging so much.

Again, if I were to visit an article or website via google using Internet explorer, random words are underlined and highlighted. If I put my curser over it, a pop up expands. Also, random ads appear.

I looked into Tools>Add Ons> and I found "Priceless." It is enabled and there is no way to disable it.
I also looked into the C:// and deleted the files for it.
Deleted any recently downloaded files from Control panel, still no help.

Ok this may seem silly, but it's annoying me right now. For some reason when I click on an icon anywhere on my computer just once, for example the desktop, it's highlighted in green instead of blue. And like when I go to click on a URL in the box up above where it stores my recently visited URL's, I don't know what it's called, but anyway, it highlights the URL's in green instead of blue. Anyway, if anybody understands what I'm talking about, is there a way to change it back to blue?

The links that I have previously viewed on sites are not highlighted any more. I don't think I changed any setting, and I want to have this feature back. What I am talking about is-
I search Ebay all the time for parts for my car. I always search the same Ebay link. Then I just hit the newly listed option on Ebay to see what new has arrived. Before when I highlighted an item, that item would then come up a different color, showing that I already viewed it. This was very handy, because I check it often and I knew how far back in time I had to go.
Can somebody tell me how to have my previous viewed links a different color?
Thanks

using excel97. working on a spreadsheet that someone else modified to highlight certain cells(red /green). need to undo this. how do i do this?

Answer:Need to undo highlighted fields...

Do you mean the cells are coloured generally - i.e have a fill color applied, or do you mean that they become highlighted under certain conditions, as when criteria are met?

If the former it is a simple case of selecting the cells in question and choosing a new colour or 'None' from the Fill Color tool on the Formatting toolbar (looks like a bucket of paint being tipped out).

To apply the most recently selected color, click Fill Color on the Formatting toolbar.
To apply a different color, click the arrow next to Fill Color , and then click a color on the palette.

If the latter, you need to remove the Conditional Formatting that controls these cells.

Your on-screen Excel Help gives this instruction (note the TIP I've highlighted - but also note its limitation - it changes ALL cell formatting for the cells you have selected on that worksheet):

"Change, add, or remove conditional formats
Select a cell that has the conditional formats you want to change or remove.

On the Format menu, click Conditional Formatting.

Change the operator, values, formula, or formats for each condition.
To change formats, click Format for the condition you want to change. To reselect formats on the current tab of the Format Cells dialog box, click Clear.

To add a new condition, click Add.

To remove one or more conditions, click Delete, and then select the check box for the conditions you want to delete.

Tip To remove all conditional formats as well as all other cell... Read more

Hi just a quick question and wondered if anyone else has this? My Taskbar Icons don't highlight when in use, I'm used to seeing them highlighted in W7 and miss that as I often close W10 with something open in the background, like notepad or something..

Is there a way to force them to highlight when open/in use?

Cheers!

Answer:Taskbar Icons not Highlighted?

For the programs that are in use, the "highlight" is a line laminated under each thumbnail, and the one that is on the screen is "shaded".
Do you have the same thing as shown in the screenshot below ?

Issue: Sometimes when I open a new executable Windows will display the program momentarily and then will automatically minimize itself onto the taskbar. Then either another tab will be displayed or the mouse cursor will be showing on the desktop.

Example: when I try to run cmd.exe from the run programs menu it will open the program and display the black startup screen. Then the program will instantly be minimized. I then reselect the command window in the taskbar and with varying consistency the cmd.exe program will either open and lock or auto re-minimize itself.

This problem is recurring and quite annoying. I have gone into my folder options and set them to default in hopes of fixing the problem. No changes.

I am freshly updated on my search n' destroy. Any input will be greatly appreciated as it's making me lose productivity on my computer.

All of the Icons on XP desktop are highlighted and I cannot unhighlight them

Answer:All XP Desktop Icons are highlighted

Welcome to TSF

Right click on your desktop and choose, 'Properties' then click on the 'Desktop' tab at the top of the little window. Then choose, 'Customize Desktop...' then click on the 'Web' tab at the top. Then un-check the little boxes on there, that's the 'My current homepage' one and the 'Lock desktop items' one, then just OK everything and you should be done.

Note: It may take some time (Say 10 - 20 seconds) for the process to complete, so don't click the 'X' if it looks like it's froze up. It's thinking.

I'm using any application and suddenly the File button in the Menu bar is highlighted for a blink, sometimes a fast series of blinks, then it happens again and again. Now all the menu bar buttons are also highlighted, yet they're pressed! It's very annoying, because I loose control of anything I'm doing. I have to press scape to stop the button highlighting. Could this be a virus, or just a bug? Please help!

Answer:Menu bar buttons keep being highlighted!

Hello Ocetalo,

Whenever the ALT key is pressed this happens by default to the Menu bar in the current active window as part of a keyboard shortcut. For example, press Alt+F to open the File menu. You can also press ALT+(a underlined letter on menu) to open that menu item.

Hope this helps,
