IE 11 and Edge white screen

Question: IE 11 and Edge white screen

I am trying to get a computer image ready for deployment but im not having any luck. IE and Edge work on the default Administrator profile but any profile created after this they do not work. They just show a white screen and when you click around it says
the webpage is not responding. I am guessing maybe something to do with the default profile? I tried Uninstalling IE, starting with no addons, and restoring factory settings with no luck. I am running windows 10 x64 creators update 1703. Any help would be

Preferred Solution: IE 11 and Edge white screen

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am not really an IT professional, but everyone in the office brings their problems to me since there isn't anyone else. This one I'm stumped and even search engines have failed me.

There is a laptop with a white line across the left side of the screen, about a centimeter thick with a thin green border. It appears to be "above" the desktop and task bar, because things like the mouse or icons disappear under it but still function normally. The problem has apparently been around for months (possibly over half a year) and there aren't any restore points prior to it.

The computer is a Compaq 610, running Windows XP Home SP2. Other than the white line it seems to be fully functional, but I really don't know what it is. Here are some of the things I've noticed:
- It's not a program or at least doesn't appear in Task Manager as a process.
- It doesn't change when the resolution changes.
- The computer doesn't seem to have any problems with viruses.
- The line is there starting at the POST screen and stays constantly (including Safe Mode) except when the screen briefly goes blank prior to starting up Windows.

It would seem like potentially a graphical problem but I really have no idea what to check or what would cause this. The user of this computer remembers no details and probably won't be helpful in getting any information. They have also taken the computer back, so I hope I haven't neglecting anything important to check.

Answer:White line along edge of screen

Connect an external monitor - does the line appear?

If NO, then you have an internal cable or screen issue.

If YES, then you have a graphics chip/card issue.

Here we've got a Thinkpad Edge E531. Sometimes something happens (idk what) and the screeen shows white noise (as shown in the picture) instead of what it has to show. If I suspend the laptop and then resume back, most of the time it'll be ok (some cases were reported that it didn't work too, I think so, my sister said) and it happens regardless of the OS type. Tried Arch Linux, Ubuntu and Windows 7. happens on all of them. of course I found another solution to solve the problem on linux, but I'm not sure, maybe by changing the tty by pressing Ctrl+Alt+F2.  It doesn't happen frequently, but occasionally. I mean it may not happen during 2 weeks but suddenly 6 times in 24h.  Picture: newer one: Any idea what the problem is?

Answer:Thinkpad Edge E531 white noise on screen

I'm wondered no body has not ever seen such a problem?

My Lenovo Thinkpad E540 (Model: 20C6008QUS) shipped yesterday and during configuring it for the first time , I found a strange problem (and it was during the first few hours after unboxing). I started experiencing a weird white (or gray) rectangular box on the top-left corner of the desktop and I have no idea where it was originated from (snapshot attached).
The box doesn't show up at the startup but whenever I logon to the windows after sleep or hibernation this box pops up. This box is just blocking all the icons below it and it is very much annoying.
Can anyone please help me out by providing any kind of solution with it ?
Thanks in advance.

My partner tried the a USB boot (since the battery is integrated and we can't remove and there are no cd/dvd drives, we made a usb flash drive). No success. Also: It's been 'upgraded' to windows 10.

Hey folks, thought id cracked this - getting thereclick herewhen i upload a gif. with a trans background im lefy with a ' white dusty edge ', short of cutting it out then doing it all again in front of a black layer, im stuck.....pls help using photoshop7.....thanks folks

Answer:white edge on gif. tranparency

I don't use Photoshop 7 so I can't be too specific and I don't know what method you are using to create your oval. I think that it may be because the pixels at the edge of your photo are merged gradually to the background colour so that when you set the background to be transparent these pixels are not quite the same colour so are missed. You could try creating a new canvas of a suitable size with a transparent background then use your oval selector on the photo and cut and paste it into the new canvas.

The white is merely the shortened URL, the protocol is hidden unless you click in the address field, the rest is the path, parameters etc.
I don't know why it's like that.

I use Microsoft Photodraw.

I crop my pictures. Lately the pics have a 'white edge' around them so when I put them in a colored cell, the unattractive white edge shows up.

Cropping doesn't help. The 'view all in background" doesn't help.
I even tried putting a border but the white edge stays on the outermost edge.
Previously my photos didn't have this problem.

Any advice how to get rid of that white edge? Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem. When turning on the laptop screen goes to white, I can hear windows starting but cannot see anything. I connected it to an external monitor, which will only display once windows has loaded. I then took the whole laptop apart and discovered the LCD cable was frayed due to a faulty laptop hinge. I replaced the cable and it was the same, just white. The problem I think is with the motherboard and the intergrated video card. Upon taking the whole thing apart I noticed that where the video card plugs in is right where the heat sink is and the cooling fan which gets exceptional hot. I figure it has fried the board to the extend the monitor will not work where it is plugged in, but the external monitor will work but only when windows boots. So sad to say because of the the heat this laptop puts off and if you have it sitting on your lap or bed or anywhere else that it cannot cool properly it has over heated and you will have to get a new motherboard.

Moderator note: Moved from this thread -

Answer:Laptop screen starts up white and stays white

"I connected it to an external monitor, which will only display once windows has loaded"... This is normal behavior because the video signal to the external monitor is not sent until Windows loads. If you can see normal video, the motherboard video chip is good

Computer covers whole screen with either white, or white with black, and blue stripes. Multiple times a day.?
This computer was bought in 2005, (HP Media Center PC). Within the second week this freezing(it freezes, and the screen has a white or white with black and blue stipes) occured( yes second week, my brother was uninformed and thought it was normal and didnt return it. It happened often enough as to save anything you were working on every ten to twenty minutes on a bad day. It settled and slowly became less of a problem, then stoped. One day he got a virus and had to restore the computer, the freezing started up again. same as last time, it settled then stoped, a month later, i recieved this computer as a hand me down, as my brother went to college and got a MAC. That was in mid summer of 2008, a week and a half ago, i got a huge virus, i restored my computer, and the freezing started up again, after not doing it once for over a year. It has gotten as bad as freezing every 30 minutes some nights. And earlier today it froze, i turned off and on my computer, went down stairs, and when i came back it was frozen again. I had not even used and program. Please help if you have any idea whats wrong!
Things to keep in mind...
-It only happened after the computer was restored, or bought(ish)
-Its not a normal freeze where you see the programs on the screen still, the screen goes completely white, or white with black and blue stripes.
-4 years old

Answer:Screen Freezes and turns white or white with stripes

Then maybe it isn't freezing at all. Maybe there's a problem with your monitor, vga cable, or video card.

Try a different monitor/cable and see if that changes anything. If it doesn't, then try reseating the video card--if any--and if that doesn't work I suggest getting a cheap one from someone's old pc at least to test with.

Installing a new video card can be complicated, but google search for a guide or follow the setup instructions for the video card to the letter and you'll have no problems.

Hi. And thanks for reading this post.
Description: Windows 7 Starter (netbook) loads , desktop is visible for about 30 seconds, then is taken over by a white screen with a submit box on the right bottom portion of the screen. Other than a one-line warning that says "You have 30 seconds to connect to the internet," there are no other messages or directions. I suspect it is some type of flawed ransomware, with an intelligent, very well-hidden code.
From a USB, using command prompt, I've tried several dozen malware scanners including HitmanPro and MalwareBytes without success.
The computer was infected on 11/18/15 and the virus seems to have deleted any previous restore point(s).
The white screen virus locks up Safe Mode and Safe Mode with Networking. The white screen also launches when trying to use explorer.exe or opening up notepad to save a file to the desktop. Tried to use a new user account to bypass the virus, but the white screen locks up the new user account in the same way.
Safe Mode with Command Prompt works.
I am thankful to be here for some professional help and look forward to the learning experience.
I followed Bleeping Computer's directions and uploaded the relevant logs from a recently run Farbar scan.
Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

I have a maxtech(i know) 19' lcd that has a white ghostlike area around the edge of the screen that goes away after it is on for about 30m-1hr. The monitor is over 3 yrs old. Anyone know why it does this? Is it going bad?

Answer:White 'faded area' around edge of lcd monitor

Offhand? Given the age; I would first think that the fluorescent tube light used to backlight the screen is beginning to go bad. It starts off a little to dim with the edges worst, just like a fluorescent tube in a ceiling light. Once warmed up it reaches full brightness .
This is fixable, the bulbs are designed to be replaced .

But if it is something more complex like the internal electronics the monitor may be on the way to the junk pile.

Hi - I am experiencing a few difficulties with the display of my ThinkPad Edge 11 (ID: 03282NB). One of them is that sometimes (I don't know what triggers that) the display becomes progressively very "white" (I don't know how to describe that better), and then returns to normal after maybe 10 seconds. The occurrence seems random to me, and it is very annoying since the screen becomes unreadable (extremely bright / white). I don't know if this is related to power management or something else. I have upgraded to the latest drivers / software through Lenovo and Microsoft. Thank you very much in advance for your help. - Julien

Answer:ThinkPad Edge 11 Display Becoming Very "White" For A Few Seconds

Yes it happens to my X201 and my T510 too. It is totally random. The screen becomes darker and all fonts/windows/pictures becomes very weird. It will return to normal after 10-20 seconds. Very annoying.

I got my ThinkPad a few days ago and I've finally gotten the camera to work. After I had finally fixed the camera by installing the proper drivers though, it came up with a new problem: the camera does not display color, nor does it let me enable anything to display colors. The "ColorEnable" option is grayed out when I access its settings through the ThinkVantage Communications Utility. I've tried modifing every single option to no avail. No matter what application uses the webcam, it's always in grayscale. Even if just the laptop itself is the only one using it, it's still in grayscale. It leads me to believe that it's a problem with the camera itself and not any one application. I have not been able to find any solution at all no matter how hard I try to look. Any help would be appreciated. All my camera drivers are up to date as of today. Windows 7 Pro, 64-bitLenovo ThinkPad Edge e540

Answer:ThinkPad Edge e540 integrated camera only in grayscale/black and white

I have the same problem. I have returned the laptop 2 times to the technical service, but according to them, there is no failure in the hardware... The first time they answered that the problem comes from the drivers or updates, but I had everything updated.I have realized that the camera is in color when the illumination of the room is high enough, but in blank and white the rest of the time.In my case I have Windows 8 installed.I am starting to be fed up with that issue because, if there is no problem with the hardware and the camera is working properly that way, it must be indicated in the specifications of the product that we buy a black and white camera as in the 70s.

I have an E530 and have been through Hell and High Water trying to install a Dual Band WiMax Card, compatible with the infamous "White List" The FRU is 60Y3195. I know the Cards are compliant, because I originally ordered two, and installed one in my sister's Laptop which is identical to mine. I also tried both cards in her machine and both were recognized instantly. I have taken it to a service provider who checked the BIOS, and found nothing which would prevent the card's recognition. He suggested that it might possibly be the this a possibility?

Answer:Failure of my Edge 530 to recognize an approved Dual Band Wireless Card from Lenovo's White List

Hi, fruhlpmd
I think this is a possibility, especially since both cards were recognized in your sister's identical laptop. It sounds like your motherboard (onto which the whitelist is written) is kicking back the cards because it either thinks they conflict with the whitelist, or simply does not recognize them. Either way, I would make sure that the settings between the laptops, as well as updates, are the same between the machines. If the issue still occurs, I would contact Lenovo Support at 1-800-426-7378 and discuss your options there.

I bought a new one and only then found out the hard way I can't seperate the digitizer and the LCD - and broke both.Thinking about how worn my machine is (touchpad is flimsy and the metel is bent everywhere), I was thinking of buying the cheapest new i3 (I think it's edge 2, model is 80k9) off ebay, then swapping my old mainboard in place of the new i3 mainboard. Then I may get an almost new laptop.Do you think it will work, will the older mainboard fit in the newer machine? Thanks.

Hi, Let me start by saying I've tried unplugging the AC adapter and the battery, and holding down the power button for a full 60 seconds (just for good measure). The laptop will run on AC power with or without the battery inserted.  When the battery is inserted -- whether the laptop is on or off -- the battery LED blinks orange, then white 3 times, then goes off.Windows shows the battery as "42%, not charging."  It also registers when the battery is removed and plugged back in while running. Is this a hardware issue that needs repair, or will replacing the battery itself fix my issue? Thanks in advance.

I can't tell exactly when this started as I have upgraded the NVIDIA drivers as well as the Dell bios and switched from running the onboard Intel HD 630 to GTX 750ti , but now on a cold boot, with the fast startup off, the screen flashes white for a sec after the Dell logo. It could possibly be white noise but I can't focus on it fast enough. It doesn't happen on restarts. I'm connected via hdmi out to a LG TV.
Dell XPS 8910 using the NVidia GTX 750ti and an HDMI TV as monitor Bios version is 1.1.0 ,1.1.0 Original version was 1.0.9, 1.0.9, can I revert back to 1.0.9 ?

The specs of my laptop are: Asus G73J, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870, Intel I7, Windows 7 64-bit.

About a month ago I updated my graphics driver. Then, when starting my laptop the screen was white and there was no display. However, if I press the power button and make the laptop go to sleep, and then wake it up, the display starts immediately.
I tried reverting the driver, but I had a problem with flash player which I could not resolve (Even after contacting ATI), and so I decide the white screen problem was less of an issue and updated the drivers again.
This time, the problem is the same as described above. I've also noticed that if I connect my laptop via a hdmi to a TV, the display starts immediately. It's as if the graphics unit is working fine, and so is the screen, but upon startup the graphics doesnt say to the screen 'hey, it's time to start now'! Instead, this message must be sent by either sleeping-waking up the laptop or connecting a hdmi cable.
Does anyone have any ideas? Perhps it's boot-drivers or something I can change in the BIOS menu?

Answer:Screen white on start up. Graphics and screen work fine.

you may want to roll back on the previous driver for your graphic card you had.

Hello, I have a Lenovo T440s. I was just using it last night and everything was okay, but today when I turn it on I get a white screen with gray bars on the sides. I have tried removing the battery and rebooting it several times. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions to get rid of this white and gray screen to a proper display again? This is a work computer, so I want to do everything I can to make sure it's okay for when I go back to work after vacation. Thank you!

Answer:Gray/White Screen Lenovo T440s at Boot Screen

Totally white screen usually means unplugged cable, but white with gray sounds like a broken panel or sick motherboard

Hi Guys,

Long time, thankfully, but here I am again. Last week, I went through several of the steps in the procedure, but stopped at the point where you ask, "Are you still having problems?" I was giving it a couple of days to see, and yes, I am. I have also read through posts, but since instructions are for each specific user/situation, I am posting a new thread as instructed.

My first question is, do you want the logs that were created before, last week, or should I start fresh today now that I have a thread?

Thanks. Karen

Answer:Random white screen crashes, must reboot; sometimes blue screen

Hi, fresh logs from running procedures now would be great.

I have never seen a screen like this in the 20 years I've had my own computer.

I had Windows 8 on a secondary drive as a dual boot with Windows 7 temporarily as I migrated to Windows 8. I somehow messed up either the boot loader or somehow corrupted the Win8 install for which I'll skip the details for now. But it was just as I was starting to decommission my Win7 install (I removed one drive from the 2-drive mirror running Win7 but figuring the single disk left would still run in a 'degraded' status. It ended up messing something up.).

I've been running bootrec /fixmbr, fixboot, scanos, and rebuildBCD from my Win8 USB stick and it says it completed but no luck on booting. I get either 0xc0000001 or 0xc000021a errors. Auto repair can't fix it.

I tried running this command, "bcdboot c:\windows /s c:", and got the screen shown in the attachment. White vertical lines on an orange background.

The only drives connected is the Win8 SSD sata drive and a DVD drive on IDE. I disconnected the DVD drive and the Win8 flash screen would appear with the circular dots but would freeze right there.

I don't have logs or screenshots to show but the single partition on the SSD is marked as active via diskpart (no system reserve partition), bcdedit shows c:\windows as the default location of the OS, diskpart shows the partition as c:, but the DVD drive is disk0, and the SSD is disk 1. Would that be a problem?

It is like it can't find the winload.exe file but I verified it exists... Read more

Answer:'White Vertical Lines on Orange Screen' Screen of Death

Have you tried putting the removed drive back in?

It looks like a video card problem (hardware) to me - but it shouldn't be that because you're able to use the USB Startup Repair functions (am I right in this assumption?). That means (to me) that it's likely to be a video driver problem (?).

Can you attempt to boot into Safe Mode? If so, what happens?
Does the screen problem show up after POST is completed? If so, at what point does it show up?

Hi picked up a Laptop at a car boot sale (Fujitsu Amilo Li 2735) sold as not working only paid a couple of pounds for it, have switched it on and the screen is white with a bar down one side, just wondering if anyone could shed some light on the problem, could it be just the inverter or maybe the screen itself. If its just the inverter might be worth a repair.
Thanks in advance.
It has 2gig ram
160gig H/D

Answer:Fujitsu Amilo Li 2735 screen is white, is it inverter or screen

If the laptop screen is white that means the backlight is working so it would not be an inverter fault
Try it out on an external monitor that will tell you if the rest of the machine is working
If it is then perhaps a troll around on e-bay will locate a working top half to transplant if the cost is right

I'm not sure if this is one virus or if my computer has somehow picked up several, but it is pretty much completely screwed. I can't access ANYTHING properly so i am posting this message from another computer.

This is what happens when I turn my computer on:

1. blank blue screen with program error message: "explorer.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows....".
2. if i click "ok" the message goes away and i am left with a blank blue screen and i have to reboot the computer
3. if i don't click ok windows starts to load up an looks normal at first but then another error message pops up (the same one) and the screen turns black and says some junk like "Warning! You're in danger!" and then some junk about spyware.
4. then a few seconds later another error message pops up and the screen turns white and says "Active Desktop Recovery. Microsoft Windows has experienced and unexpected error..." It gives me an option to "click here to restore" but nothing happens when i do click it.
5. and then another error message pops up and the screen goes black again, then another message and it goes white and so on.

I can't really open any programs properly because another error message will pop up and shut down the start menu before i get a chance to open anything.

I managed to run ad-aware and it found some problems that i cleaned up. then spybot found nothing. then i rebooted and was having the same ... Read more

Yes, you've got a few malware entries in there (a CoolWebSearch hijack, and a couple of trojans), though it's not going to be easy to remedy without seeing the complete HJT log. Can you possibly copy the log to floppy and then post it from the other computer?

What's the Windows OS?
eg. Is it Windows 2000 sp4? Or is it WinXP Pro sp2?

What version of HijackThis is it? v1.99.1 is the latest version.
Is HijackThis.exe running from a permanent folder, and not from within a zip file in a Temp folder?
This is important. Make sure HijackThis.exe is installed in eg.
C:\Program Files\HijackThis

They are both exactly the same (whether smallcase or uppercase or a mixture).
svchost.exe is legitimate and is an integral part of Windows NT/2k/XP (Services Host).
It is normal to have multiple instances of it running.

I have a white screen upon startup. I was able to use my laptop when plugging the VGA cable in the back to an external monitor but that only works with a few tries.
I notice if i put my laptop on sleep for less than 2 hours the external monitor works.
Any time longer and I have to start the process of removing and inserting the plug and playing with my external monitor so it can detect a signal, it usually takes a few tries and a few minutes.
The white screen is always on my laptop throughout the process and even when the external monitor works.
Just determining if i should replace me screen or ribbon video cable or check my connection to my vga cable or could it be my motherboard.

any help or direction is appreciated.
Thank you!

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15R N5110 screen problem - white screen & external monitor works if I jiggle the plug

We need to isolate if the issue is with the LCD or the video card. So, turn off the system - press and hold the "d" + power key to turn it back on - this should initiate the LCD built in self test. You should see a screen with solid changing colors and the system would beep. If you see this - the LCD is fine. If you do not see the colors changing - then repeat the step again - but this time - swivel the LCD back and forth and see if there is any display. If the display is intermittent then the LCD cable needs reseating/replacing.
Also, turn off the system and press and hold the "fn" key + power button to turn it back on - wait for a few minutes. If you do not see any display, the system should start beeping. Count the number of beeps per cycle. At any point if you see the screen with solid colors changing - the LCD is fine. The issue is with the video card/motherboard. If do not see the changing colors - then we would suspect the LCD.
Test the system with another VGA cable for the external monitor.
If the system is under warranty, then please send me the service tag of the system and your contact details through a private conversation. Or you could use twitter - @dellcares - we can DM through twitter and help you fix the issue.
Keep us updated.

I have an Acer laptop with Windows 7.
This morning I woke it up and everything looked fine, I could see the desktop, my browser etc. I share the machine so I leave him logged into his things on firefox and I log in with IE as much as I hate the browser. I opened IE and got my homepages but the internet was sluggy so I moved the laptop closer to our network. When I sat down I must have hit something (I believe now that I did not) on the keyboard as the computer suddenly shut itself down. I got it back up, got the login screen, typed in my password and got a whitish screen. I could see my cursor, even click on what I believe was the quicktask bar. I got the 'working' cursor as it opened whatever I asked it to. I just couldn't see anything but the cursor. I hit the power button and suddenly I saw the wallpaper and my desktop but only because it needed me to click on the 'close anyway' button cause there was a program preventing the shut down.

I tried a restart in safemode and got the same reaction. No change, accept it (without me near the machine) restarted, so I believe I didn't hit something the first time. If I Ctrl+alt+del, I get the screen that asks me what I want to do but the task manager never shows up when I select it. Do I have a virus? Or is something wrong with his new laptop (bought late 2011 early 2012, I don't remember)

Hi there, I hope everyone is well.

I have a strange issue that started happening recently. System restore doesn't help as it happens with multiple machines.

I have a lobby display running from TV via HDMI to EXTRON to Ethernet and back again to the computer in the server room. I have had this setup for a little over a year now working just fine. We recently got a new computer (We lease) for the lobby display and after setting it up, I only see a black screen with a white cursor. I have troubleshot this a little too much that I am now not sure if it's a windows update, video card update, or possible the EXTRON. However, when hooking up a laptop it works just fine as it should.

Please note that I can see post boot and the CTRL ALT DELETE screen just fine, but once logged in I just see cursor. If someone moves cursor I can see it from the lobby display. If I uninstall the video card driver I see everything perfectly fine but when running presentation it's not focused for obvious reasons, so I can't leave it like that.

I have used a Desktop with AMD and latest drivers as well as down graded drivers, issue still is present. I use an older nvidia card FX570, same deal with drivers, still the issue is present. I use a new computer with a new nvidia card, and it works. but unfortunately we do not have any of those available and that's a really expensive machine.

here is where it gets even more strange;
If I hook the computer up directly to the TV and not behind the extron devi... Read more

I've got a problem with my laptop, a 2010 HP G60-635DX. First, a little history. This was my wife's laptop until she dropped it and broke the display screen. We hooked it up to a monitor and she was good to go. Last Christmas I got her a new computer and again she was all set. In the meanwhile I've been using this old Dell laptop from 2006 with WinXP in it. Works, but is slow as all get out. A few months ago I decided to use my wife's old computer for myself. It comes with Windows 7 and works quite well. Last June I made the mistake of trying the Windows 10 upgrade, and what a disaster that turned out to be. So I reverted back to Win7, but I lost all the drivers that came with it, so I was stuck. So recently I bought a new screen for my wife's old computer, and I installed it today. So guess what? The screen works fine, but all I get is a blank white screen Nothing at all! It's as if the computer can't display anything at all. I just don't understand it. The computer fires up, but that's it. No start screen, no nothing. Just a blank white screen.
Anybody have any ideas as to what's wrong, and how I could fix this?

Hi, I've been having this problem. When I start my computer, the whole screen is white for awhile, then it turns black. There is no windows startup logo or my computer brand logo. Then my screen starts flashing and the power button on my monitor blinks and the monitor makes TOK sounds every 2 seconds and then the screen flashes and starts doing that over and over until it decides to make the whole screen white and stay like that. Here's what it looks like:
I tried manually restarting my computer by holding the power button and after a few tries, sometimes, if I'm lucky, it will let me login and then everything is fine.
Today, I went through this process and today I tried turning off the monitor when the screen was white. It restarted and black flashing but made the screen turn white faster. I just kept trying, turning the monitor off and on again because I didn't know what to do. Then I was so lucky, the login page for windows came up and I was able to login; now everything is normal. I can go online and everything without any problems until I shut down my computer and start it up again. Then it's back to square one.
Can anyone help me fix this problem? Should I buy a new monitor? I've had this one for a few years, but my desktop is new; It's one year old in 3 days. (April. 4)
Thanks in advance!

Lately for some reason, when I view videos online, when I click on "full screen" all I get is a blank white screen. I'm using IE8 w/XP sp3. If I hit "escape", it will exit and go back to the smaller screen just as it normally would. It does this with any online video, Youtube, news videos, what have you, but does not do that when viewing videos offline. I tried the latest FF, it does not have that problem. Please do not tell me to just switch to FF, I want to fix this problem with IE.

Update: It also goes white when I try to go full screen while viewing slide shows in Photobucket.

Answer:White screen when viewing videos in full screen

My best guess is that the things you are trying to view require the latest versions of programs like adobe, java, flash player, or quick time. Make sure that you're updated with the latest software. I'm not exactly a tech guru, so go easy on me if what I just said is stoopid

Toshiba Satellite M300 about 18months old (using Windows 7). Display has had intermittent problems. Screen flashes on and off to a white screen. Now if lid is moved while working, the screen "whites out" completely and returns to normal when returned to "the sweet spot"!

Haven't tried another monitor yet. Driver is up to date. Assuming it is a 'bad connection' maybe. Use power off with close of lid have changed that tonight.

Any ideas? :)

Answer:Satellite M300 - Screen flashes on and off to a white screen

Hi KezRev,

Theoretically it could be a internal display issue or cable connection problem but you should test another monitor firstly. Just connect an external monitor to check the picture there.

If the external monitor works properly it?s either the internal LCD cable or display malfunction. Therefore contact a service provider and let the technicians check your notebook. They can fix this problem and order new spare parts. :)

I have a brand new HP Pavilion with a touch screen. Out of the box I noticed there was a white speck on the screen which I couldn't wipe off. When I turned the screen on the speck appears to be black. The speck returns to white when the screen is on, but displaying something dark. This seems to me to be strange behavior for a dead pixel, but I don't know anything about the new touch screens.  I found a 'dead pixel test' online, and against red and green backgrounds the speck appeared black, while the test would indicate that it should appear white were it so.  I think that the speck seems to be 'above' the rest of the screen slightly. Does anyone know what this is?

I didn't really know where to post this. I'm new to this forum and I got a problem with my very old and bad PC.

Specs: (don't laugh)
Motherboard: Leonite-GL8E / ASUS P5LP-LE / leonite 5.00
CPU: Intel Pentium D 915 2.8GHz
GRAPHIC CARD: Idk how to check this without turning the pc as it doesn't load the windows?

Whenever I turn my PC white stripes appear on the screen while booting and loading windows then they change to blue. I had Windows 7 Ultimete x64 and a blue screen appeared all the time while loading the system and said something about graphic card. I then done a format to Windows XP as it didn't even let me instal new any Windows 7 system and the XP worked fine but the stripe were still there although only while booting.

There's few pictures how it looks. Please help.

Answer:White stripes on the screen while booting then blue screen.

Either power supply can't deliver enough power for graphics card or graphics card is dying but this white stripes indicate that it's probably second one.

Well you can check graphics card model by looking at it-you may recognize it;or there is a sticker on the graphics card from which you could read it's model.

Hi guys I have a interrmittant Light blue screen or White Screen while loading battlfield play4free.

I recall having screen freezes (BF play4free) before I upgraded the Video card on this secondary PC. They continued after the new videocard was installed, but not as frequent.
More recently I suspected a virus infection after another person borrowed my PC. I posted in the malware removal forums and was told PC is clean so far. here is link
I was told to post in another section so I starting with hardware as it seems like a hardware issue due to the re-occurance even after re-installs.

Latest issues are light blue screen freeze after starting Battlefield play4free game(forced to reboot with button). Also lost internet connection at the same time as suspected malware infection.
I had a white screen freeze of whole monitor after leaving PC on all night(not using it but BF play4free was running.
I got a mostly black screen with various artifacts while trying to load the BM "Call of Pripyat"
I think maybe the scanners used in the malware forum may have helped but I still have main symptoms re-occurring.

I am providing an update of events and other information on the PC, in hopes of finding a solution quicker.

I still see Searchnu is working in google chrome as my search provider even though I have removed all associated software. It may also be collecting information on me as well so I am aware of this. A reinstall may be required as this is my back up PC which should remain bug free. I should have backups as well but not this time (image backups you know). I was told my PC was free of malware by tim so I dunno. (Screen Shot number two)

Before I forget last night there was another freeze of the game BFPlay4Free, luckily I was in windowed mode and could go to task manager to kill the process(BFP4f.exe). I have a screenie of that time and effects of redraw failure(I think)I have been running games this morning and seems to be working with exception of one problem with a white screen upon starting the game(log out and relog in cures this). Hey all, My wife's laptop, e420, has been having issues for the last 3-4 months. It started where she would shut the laptop and it would not go to sleep, the screen would just be black. You would have to hit the power button to wake up. A new issue is that we get the dreaded blue screen. The error shows that there is a problem power management when shutting the laptop. I have tried to debug the dump file with little help and I have updated all the drivers. I have a feeling the power management drivers became corrupt on an update but not sure. Any thoughts? I have updated the bios as well. Thanks!

I just got my 1st  lenovo tablet pc (x200t multi-touch w7 32bit). However, my first experience is not so smooth.I am having a screen flicker issue in secondary landscape mode (not the default landscape mode) whenever I move my mouse beyond the right edge of the screen. From the symptom,  it seems like Windows 7 didn't stop the mouse from moving out of the screen, and hence  Windows 7 tries to redraw everything from the top up to the cursor repeatitively (i.e. flickering)In other orientation, the mouse is actually stopped before moving out of the screen because I can still see the edge of the cursor when I move to far right. Does anyone know of a solution?  If not, I would like to know if anyone else experience this issue. You can reproduce this by1. rotation the screen orientation until buttons on the screen is at the top of the screen (i.e. the secondary landscape orientation)2. move your move beyond the right edge of the screen.3. screen starts to flicker I have updated all the drivers and software via Windows Update and Lenovo ThinkVantage. ThinkPad BIOS Update 3.11-1.04ThinkPad Power Manager 2.05Lenovo Fingerprint Software for Windows 7 32 bit thinkVantage Toolbox (32-bit) 6.0.5449.31Here is my configuration Intel Core 2 Duo SL9400 (1.86GHz, 6MB L2, 1066MHz)1Genuine Windows 7 Professional 321212.1" Enhanced Multitouch WXGA LED Panel with Wide viewing AngleIntel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD2 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRA... I have a Dell Inspiron laptop that on Sunday while I was using it mysteriously shut off and then rebooted and when it came back on instead of getting a log in screen to log into windows it just has a black screen with a white cursor. The computer is running Windows Vista. I was on facebook at the time it did this and I also was using my iPhone as a hotspot via usb cable.   I am also having this same issue with my Dell all-in-one desktop computer which is also running Vista. It mysteriously did the same thing on Saturday. It was having other issues prior to the black screen that I was getting help with so when my laptop ended up having the exact same black screen with cursor instead of log in screen I was confused since it wasn't having the other issues the other computer was having prior to it happening to it.  I am getting help for that computer on TechSpot.  Could my iPhone have a virus or something that transferred to my desktop and then my laptop via the usb cable? Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated...Thanks!

Greetings to all,
I have this annoying screen problem that has finally taken its toll on me. While doing anything online (Google, Email, Surfing etc) my computer screen will freeze and then go a white translucent color.
It happens across the board on anything I may be working on.
If I am in Google, and I'm also checking email, or working on an Excel Sheet, all 3 things will freeze and go white.

I have attached my HijackThis Log, as well as the DDS and Attach txt.
Please let me know if there is any other info that is needed to help me solve this annoying problem.

The freeze usually lasts a minute sometimes 2...and as you can imagine, when you're working at a frantic pace, having to stop and start is really annoying.
I have run all my antivirus software (AdAware, AVG, CCleaner) but nothing fixes it.

Hope someone can offer some help.

Answer:Screen Freezes and I get a White Transparent Screen

I will try to post an image of the screen so you can get a visual of what I mean

I'm looking into buying a new Thinkpad to replace my trustworthy but aging T42. When I look at the various Edge models, I see that there are different types of screens across the 13/14/15 inch models. The 13" Edge page refers to "Glare" HD screens; The 14" Edge page refers to Glossy HD screens; andThe 15" Edge page refers both to "Glare" HD and Anti-Glare HD screens. Is there a difference (other than size) for screens across the 13/14/15 inch model lines? By "Glare" does Lenovo mean "Glossy", or did they just forgot to add "Anti-" before "Glare" I saw the 14" Edge model at Best Buy. The laptop looked nice and functioned well, barring the exceptionally glossy screen. It reflected the store's lights a lot, so I'm doubting it's ability to be a good laptop outdoors. On the bright side, I could probably use it as a mirror in the morning... If the other Edge models have the same screen, I'll consider buying a T410... or another business-line laptop from another manufacturer.

Answer:Thinkpad Edge Screen Question - Glossy HD Screen vs.

what a match... I also have T42 and planning to buy T410 or edge series.. Your query is exaxtly as mine. Please let me know what you bought and why?

Question: White screen

While working on my computer, the screen suddenly turned white leaving me with no option beyond re-booting. After re-booting, there was no change in the screen. I, then, turned off the computer until the following day. At that point, I turned on the computer and it booted normally. Any idea what caused this problem? Thank you for your help. Jerry

Answer:White screen

Saying "while working on the computer" doesn't tell us anything.
Exactly what were you doing to it when the display issue occurred?

Is it still working okay now?

I'm still trying to fix this problem. The Laptop screen is a bright white but will dim down after no activity time outs. It will also go out if the computer goes into sleep mode. It is a bright white screen as soon as you turn it on so you can't see anything in the BIOS level to work with. I have tried replacing the screen but there is no differance. I replaced the ribbon cables inside the laptop to make sure it had no broken leads and I still get the same results. If I connect an HDMI cable and the laptop has completed loading the OS then I can work with the computer completly on the screen connected to the HDMI cable but the laptop is pure white. I can also use the VGA port with the same results. If I switch the screen control and say I want to just use the HDMI or VGA port then the white screen goes off.  The second port moniter only works after the operating system has loaded so it is useless until the OS is loaded.  This takes me back to my original question about this laptop. On other models there is an inverter , which if it fails on other models gives you a white screen and is easily replacable but I find none on this laptop. Again I'm working on an HP DV7-6c93dx. Does this laptop have an inverter and is it replacable? If there is no inverter and I've replaced both the screen and the internal ribbon cables is the only thing left "the Motherboard" ?

Question: White screen

Can not login to site to play flash games and it only affects my laptops.
I have no problem logging in on my Windows 7 desktop. Both my Windows 7 and Windows 8 laptop opens the site but after entering credentials and clicking login I am immediately taken to a blank white page. I have tried turning off wireless and connecting the laptops using the same cable used by the desktop, running CCleaner, verifying credentials (including capitalization) and using a different browser. I have also tried the Windows 8 laptop on a different network and still get the same result. Since the site is for flash games I checked flash on the desktop and the Windows 8 laptop and both have version I also searched the problem on Google but mostly found a lot of pages about WordPress and server side problems with plugins, themes and the like. What could the difference be between the desktop and laptops that are causing this white screen?

Answer:White screen

I was researching and working on this on and off last weekend and after running various virus and malware scans (despite having real time protection), updating drivers and using a proxy to access the site, I still had not resolved this issue. On Sunday, after nothing else worked, I had the idea of creating a new account and surprisingly that solved my problem. This solution had not occurred to me because most of the sites I play on, multiple accounts will get you banned. Anyway, I just wanted to post my results in case anyone else with the same problem should stumble on this post. Especially since no one else had any ideas either.

Question: White Screen

I have a Samsung 204B monitor that failed yesterday with an all white screen. The monitor turns on and off OK, but is all white as soon as it turns on (I am sure it is the monitor as it does this when not connected to a PC).

I have viewed a few Youtube videos and websites suggesting bad caps or ribbon cables. I am curious if anybody here has actually repaired a monitor with the white screen problem?

Edit: I opened it up and found 3 capacitors that are bulging, so I will replace them first. Radio Shack was a complete waste of time, so I will have to buy them online.

Question: White Screen....

This is strange and I am not very computer literate but radomly my internet browser and other files like games get a white screen. Let me give you a few example, I was on the BBC News site and it had an audio file on, my screen went white and crashed the IE/Firefox/chrome. I opened a game installer and it went white screen, you tube seems to be fine but other videos go white screen and eventually crash the program.

After the crash, a program pops up to try resolve the issue but it never does. What is this problem, I am sorry if this question has been asked before and I would like to thank you in advance for taking the time to post.

--- Additional Information ---

Java is installed
Flash is installed
OS = Win 7
No viruses

Answer:White Screen....

The white screen represents that the window/application has stopped responding. The cause would be the tricky part of solving. Try slowly, keeping the least amount of windows open when trying to duplicate this problem. Keep track of the time and what your clicking on and if possible what background programs are doing at the time your windows goes white (stops responding). You also can take a look at your event viewer for clues. Go to start Orb, Type Event viewer open click on Windows Logs to expand and look at System, and Application as a start. See whats happening at the time these windows stop responding.

Good Luck

Dear support,

On startup, all I get is a blank white screen. I can't see anything.

But, I can plug in a monitor and do everything else just fine.

I tried twiddling the drivers, but maybe I did it wrong or overlooked the right one(s). I tried a system restore, but that threw an error on restart.

I even dove in with my screwdriver to make sure no plugs got knocked loose (don't worry, warranties were long voided).

Please help.

Question: White screen

My computer has a white screen, does anyone know how to fix this? It is a Toshiba Satellite A205 laptop.

Answer:White screen

Sadly this is a connection issue on the motherboard to the graphics...if it's still under warranty send it in and get it fixed..otherwise you can either send it in and pay the price of getting it fixed..or getting a new laptop..which most likly be about what they would charge you to fix it these days.

If you google your problem there are tons of post about this model doing the white screen issue unfortunatly..

HI there my laptop screen is on a whiteout..not sure what happened to it, I think my grandson stepped on it, the computer itself still works. HELP. My laptop is only a few months old.

Answer:my screen is all white

If your laptop has a VGA port and you have a monitor around, you can try it to make sure it is the monitor that is bad, but if it is only a few months old, bring it back under warranty. IF they tell you the problem is that someone stepped on it, you may have to pay for the repair, otherwise you are not really sure anyway and they probably will repair it without questioning it.You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Question: White screen?

I have a friend who's computer is running W7. For a while now, at random periods, her computer screen will go completely white. The mouse arrow will still be there and she can move the arrow around, but there is nothing else on the screen. She has to press and hold the power button to turn it off, then when she turns it back on, it all seems to work fine, until the next time.

I've heard of the Blue Screen of Death, the Black Screen of Death, but I've never heard of a White Screen of Death.

Is anyone familiar with this sort of problem?

Question: White Screen

Hi, I just started having this white screen issue today.
It seems that my laptop have a permanent white screen, the moment I pressed the ON button.
I can still adjust my screen lighting, and couldn't try the rest since I can't seen anything on my screen.
I've searched on net, and mostly referred to a white screen after start up and with the mouse scroll, but mine is just empty without anything.
Please help me, I have a lot of important files that I need access to.

Answer:White Screen

Can you plug in a monitor? Most laptops have a port for this.

If so is it booting past the BIOS screen into Windows? What do you see on the monitor screen? If it's also white then it sounds like the video chip is failing and may need replacement. If the monitor gives a picture then it could only be the laptop screen needing reseating or replacement.

Your files should always be backed up against failures like this. If you cannot get your screen working then you can remove the Hard Drive from its bay underneath - instructions for most models are found by asking Google - and connect it via a converter cable to USB or to plug it in internally to a desktop's SATA port, giving access to your data.

Question: white screen??

when my computer comes out of stanby mode I get a blank white screen...( sometimes ) has anyone ever had this happen before? could the monitor be going bad? the entire system was just reformatted could somekind of driver be missing?thanks

Answer:white screen??

Instead of standby try setting the display and hd to power down after a defined period of inactivity. It serves essentially the same purpose and is a problem free method, unlike hibernation and standby - which some users find problematical.

When I turn on my laptop the screen immediately turns white. When I connect to an external, everything displays properly. I had it apart and reattached the cables with no success. I did notice that when I put some pressure in the lower left corner of the motherboard the lcd screen displays normally. Is the motherboard bad? Toshiba Satellite A55

Answer:Lcd screen all white

Sounds like some kind of loose connection on the motherboard itself. If you are real handy with circuits you might be able to repair it yourself, otherwise perhaps some kind of cheesy fix to apply pressure or simply using an external will have to be your solutions.

I suppose you could replace the motherboard, but that could be expensive.

Question: White Screen

Hello I have a toshiba Satellite l675-s7108 with a white screen at boot up. I am in need of help determining the cause. What I have done to this point. 1. replaced LCD screen 2. Replaced video cable3. replaced memory4. replaced harddrive 5. reinstalled windows 7 64 bitAfter all of this I am still left with a white screen the moment the computer is powered on. I am able to connect external monitor and display appears normal through external source. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:White Screen

If you have 'replaced' all the essential things and also the external monitor display is normal, I would check the motherboard. The laptop spec shows its a LED screen, there fore it will not have an inverter. At first diagnostic, the white screen here can first be either the LCD screen or a bad LCD cable. It may not be a hard drive. If it was a hard drive, it should have at least shown the motherboard logo?Memory is doubtful because then the external monitor will also not work. I could have asked you to unplug the cmos battery, remove laptop battery, remove charger and leave it for few minutes and check. But such a diagnosis is sensible only if the external monitor is also NOT working. Still you can try.Lastly, I would check with the motherboard.
