Windows 10 Tip: Watch 360° videos with the Windows 10 Creators Update

Question: Windows 10 Tip: Watch 360° videos with the Windows 10 Creators Update

With the Creators Update, the Movies & TV app* expands your viewing horizon from 2D video to 360 video. You can explore new immersive 360 video content from partners like GoPro, Baobab Studios, LIFE VR, NextVR, Littlstar and more. Go skydiving with a bombsquad, see a rocket launch from up close, visit Portugal, watch the NBA games from the best seats courtside, or even climb Mount Everest; a few of the many immersive experiences featured in the app. Stay tuned as content refreshes frequently. Want to create your own stories? Windows 10 supports a variety of 360 cameras for capturing your own content, so now you can also watch your personal 360 video creations in the Movies & TV app.

Here?s how to get started:
https://winblogs.azureedge.net/win/2017/06/f89d98c24620122114f949d7ea71ad24.gif

Launch the Movies & TV app, and head to the ?360 videos? section.

https://winblogs.azureedge.net/win/2017/06/739adf06c58cd39c69e13ab5a42d73c9.gif

Click on a video to start playing it. If you?re viewing from your Windows 10 PC, simply drag your mouse around to view the 360 videos.

If you?re on your Windows Phone or Windows 10 tablet, you can swivel around in all directions to enjoy 360 of video. Come Holiday 2017, you can take it up a notch and step into mixed reality entertainment with your Windows Mixed Reality headset.**

Have a great week!

For those of you that Facebook and have issues with Chrome playing 360 videos ......which I've had for a long time now. Here's a quick fix....and I would never have guessed this. Just enable "hardware acceleration" under advanced settings for Chrome. It works and I couldn't believe it.

I downloaded Windows 10 and was pleased. I was the most "pain free" Windows upgrade that I've ever had. Unfortunately Ever since, when I try to watch a video on (say) YouTube, I get a message that there has been an error and to try again later. This is very annoying as the person who recommended that I update to 10 used ease of playing videos as a selling point. Thanks for any help.

For the past week, I haven't been able to watch any videos. When I try to play a video from my hard drive, it only plays audio with no visual at all. When I open up YouTube on Chrome, I get the same problem, except very rarely I when I get audio and visual. I tried opening up YouTube on Explorer, and it actually works, except if I go fullscreen the visual will cut out again and I'm left with only sound. The weirdest part is my user is the only one with this problem on the PC, the other two users can play videos from YouTube and the hard drive just fine. Is the only solution to just make a new user and transfer all of my data on to that?
Can someone help me out on this? Thanks

Answer:Can't watch any videos, Windows 7

By far the simplest fix is to use System Restore to roll back Windows to a point in time when everything when your computer was functioning correctly. It allows you to undo system changes without affecting your personal files, such as e-mail, documents, or photos.

Video: Fixing a problem using System Restore
If that doesn't help, try restoring an earlier system image or backup.

No suitable restore point, backup, or image available? Kick yourself -- you missed the easy solution, and you're left with digging through Windows' many settings.

Hello to everyone!

I tried to post this at the audio and video forum but I got no aswer so I am trying here as well. Hope that's ok. Well, the thing is that I can't watch youtube videos. When I visit the YouTube page and I play some videos I can hear the sound but there is no image. This happens with Mozilla. If I browse with Chrome, the YouTube videos play fine. I have updated the plugins of Mozilla and reinstalled the Adobe Flash Player but this doesn't seem to solve the problem. Any ideas?

So I updated to the Creators Update 2 weeks ago. And now 3 days ago it removed my public update version of Windows 10 how can I reroll back without the public update?

Answer:How come when I updated to the Windows 10 Creators Update it deleted the Windows 10 Public Update?

Originally Posted by Windows Central Question public update version of Windows 10 What is " public update version of Windows 10 " ?
I suppose you meant the Anniversary Update which began on August 2nd, 2016 ?
Anyway, each time you upgraded from one version to a new one, Microsoft allows you only 10 days to decide if you want to keep the new version or not.
Within the 10 days you can revert back to the previous build as long as you have not deleted the windows.old.
In your case, you are over your 10 days limit.
The only way to go back to your previous build is .....
1. IF you had created an iso file of your previous build.
If you have, you can then use the iso file to revert back to previous build.
2. If you have done a system image backup of your previous build.
If you have, you can do a system image restore to go back to your previous build.
Otherwise, Creators Update version 1703 is there to stay.
Sorry.

I believe something is running in the background of my computer.  I'm not sure if it is a virus, malware, or just too many process and applications running in the background.  My computer takes way longer to start up than it use to and when I try and watch videos it will cut in and out and jump around like my memory is full or somthing is running hard in the background.  This didn't use to be like this.

I've already looked at the fixed article here.  And did as much as I could before posting this.  There was one small issue that was deleted but the problem didn't seem to go away.  I can't remember what the bug was.

I typically run Avast Antivirus, Microsoft Security Essentials and Scotty WinPatrol on startup.  I will also run biweekly to monthly CCleaner, Malwarebytes, Ad-Aware, Spybot-Searchanddestroy.  Can you guys give me a recommendation as to what I should run at startup and as a weekly scan?

I will follow instruction and am thankful for any help in advance.

Answer:Windows 7 Slow can't watch videos in VLC Player

G'day Help!ugh,
You are running more than one Anti Virus.  (Avast Antivirus, Microsoft Security Essentials, AdAware,) This will cause great confusion in your pc's system.
Please read THIS topic, Post no.2 by Queen Evie for an explanation why more than one is undesirable.
I would also uninstall , Spybot-Search and destroy, as SuperAntiSpyware has largely taken its place and is recognized as being far more effective.
SUPERAntiSpyware    (this tool is recommended by bleepingcomputer )

Personally I would keep MSE, but that choice is yours.

This has not happened before the update. My gtx 560 was able to watch up to 1440p on youtube and using the "source" option on twitch. I have formatted my hard drive twice and I am still getting the same lag. I have also used CCleaner at first I thought it worked, looked at a video and it was working fine but going to watch another and it lagged again. The audio will sometimes keep going then it will freeze while the buffering screen shows up even though it has already cached most of the video already. Any Suggestions?

I have some files shared on a Windows computer and I would like to be able to watch the files directly from that computer on my Linux computer which is connected to a TV in another room. I'm able to access the files with the samba client but when I try to open it with kaffeine media player, it seems like it trys to play, but I see no video and hear no sound. I also tried playing the videos in MPlayer, but the program just starts to transfer the file to my computer instead of just playing it right there. I know I could stream my videos from my Windows system using VLC, but that means I'd have to go to my Windows machine and pick out the files to stream. Does anyone know if there are any more efficient ways of doing this? Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you!

In the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, Device Portal now offers several new tools from across Windows to help you location test your UWP, explore Mixed Reality, build new hardware peripherals and test your apps new installation pipeline. It?s a little bit of goodness for everyone, and we?re excited to share these with you.

If you?re not familiar with Device Portal, you can check out the blog posts below to see what other tools you can find in Device Portal, or look at the new docs.microsoft.com to learn how to enable it.

And as always, all of these tools are backed by a REST API, so that you can use it from a scripting or client application environment using the Device Portal Wrapper.

Location Based Testing
Most of us don?t have the travel budgets to test our apps across the world ? but pretending to travel is almost as good! The Location tool in Device Portal lets you easily change the location that Windows reports to apps. By tapping the ?Override? check box, you can swap out the device location for whatever you set using the map or lat/long text boxes. Be sure to uncheck the box when you?re done so that your location (and timezone) come back to reality ? every vacation must end?

Figure 1: The News app keeping me up to date with local headlines!
This also works for web pages in Microsoft Edge, letting you test your webpages in different parts of the world.

Some notes on what this tool can and cannot do:

Following the install of the Windows 10 Creators Upgrade I have tried removing the Windows OLD folder using CCleaner.
It results in some of my 3rd party apps such as "Chess Titans" not working. something to do with Direct X.
I have checked and have the latest version (12) of Direct X
Any suggestions?

Answer:Removed Windows.old folder after installing Windows 10 Creators Update

Hmm ... You should always use the buit-in Disk Cleanup Utility to remove the Windows.old folder. Maybe CCleaner messed up somewhere...
See if you can carry out a system restore and perhaps get the Windows.old folder back on your system.

It was an amazing day today at Build 2017. With the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, we continue to grow the Windows platform so that Windows is home for all developers. As I reflect on the day, I want to highlight how Windows and VS are creating the best end-to-end development process and enabling developers not only to maximize their code reuse, but also to create experiences that are engaging, powered by intelligence and connected across devices.

.NET Development Improvements
With today?s announcement that .NET Standard 2.0 for UWP and XAML Standard will be coming later this year, .NET is now the most complete cross-platform development framework. This combination, along with Visual Studio, makes it easier than ever before to write fully native and full-featured apps for all your target platforms in C#, including Windows, iOS, Android, Linux and, of course, the cloud!

.NET Standard 2.0 and XAML Standard
.NET Standard 2.0 is expanding the UWP surface by over 20,000 APIs to make sure your code is more interoperable than ever. We also know that about 70% of NuGet packages are API compatible with .NET Standard 2.0. Your most requested APIs for UWP, such as Reflection and SqlClient, will be fully accessible to you from the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. In addition, XAML Standard allows you to keep much of your UI code common and still maintain a native look and feel across Windows, iOS, and Android. Your experience on Windows will automatically provide Fluent UI an... Read more

Since its original debut with the Windows 10 November 2015 update, Windows.UI.Composition has been empowering developers to build fast, beautiful, sweet user interfaces in UWP and has been providing enhancements with every subsequent Windows release. At Build 2017, we revealed what all of this continuous work has been leading up to: The Fluent Design System (aka ?Project Neon?).

Moving from classic ?Flat Design? to Fluent Design requires the visual and performance capabilities that the Composition APIs offers along with the interop features that let you draw on this power from your XAML layer. In case you are not yet familiar with the concepts behind the Composition APIs, here?s a quick refresher on what the Composition APIs are all about.

The Windows.UI.Composition namespace allows Universal Windows Platform (UWP) developers to use a new Visual Layer that will get them closer to the metal, graphically speaking, while still using familiar technologies like XAML and C#. By getting closer to the metal, actually down to the system compositor level, developers are able to get great visual performance and custom UI experiences. By working through the XAML layer, developers get the ease of use they have come to expect out of UWP. This is basically a best of both worlds scenario that puts great responsibility in the developer?s hands. And with great responsibility, as we all know, comes great power.

So why do you need all these graphical and UX superpowers? In a... Read more

For the past several months, I?ve shared insights on our roll out approach for Windows 10 Creators Update (version 1703). We?re now moving from a targeted offering to full availability for all compatible devices running Windows 10 globally via Windows Update. Similarly, our commercial customers should feel confident to deploy this release broadly across their organizations.

Predictable semi-annual release aligned with Office
In response to feedback for a more predictable feature update model, we are moving to a new twice-yearly release cadence called the Semi-Annual Channel that replaces the Current Branch (CB) and Current Branch for Business (CBB). As we announced in April, Windows has aligned with Office 365 ProPlus to simplify IT deployment cycles, targeting releases in March and September. Both feature releases will be serviced for 18 months from the date of release. The Creators Update marks the first of our Semi-Annual Channel releases.

Empowering organizations to decide when and how to deploy
The new Semi-Annual Channel update cadence and life cycle model provides commercial customers with greater predictability and simplicity to take advantage of the latest capabilities and integrated security, as quickly as is practical for their organization. This predictable release cycle enables enterprises to plan combined servicing of Windows and Office and create deployment plans tailored to their needs.

It's dej? vu all over again.

The correct behaviour of windows update over a metered connection is to offer the choice to download, or wait until on a non-metered connection.

The initial build of the Anniversary Update broke this, it skipped offering you a choice and went straight to trying to download - which of course stuck at 0% because... well... it's a metered connection! TenForums, and @Slartybart in particular were the only place on the internet that had found this bug, documented it and offered workarounds.
Set Wireless Network as Metered or Non-Metered in Windows 10
(this was in fact the very post that convinced me to register here).

Well, guess what - 15063.0 is broken in exactly the same way. After upgrading my first machine to Creators Update 15063.0 and checking for updates there's no 'Download' button - it just hangs at 0%.

The workarounds were: For Defender updates check for updates in Defender itself. Started from there an update would always be downloaded - even on metered connections. For Cumulative Updates, temporarily turn off metered connections. The stalled update would immediately start downloading. That bug in 1607 wasn't fixed until August 23, 2016 with KB3176934 (OS Build 14393.82).

Turning off metered connections has got me up to 15063.13 now. Until there's a new Defender definition available I won't know if the bug has been fixed (again). OK, there is, and it has.

It's disappointing that MS repeated their mistake of last time, but at least ... Read more

Answer:Windows Update with Metered connection fails: Creators Update 15063.0

Hi Bree,

I just did a clean install using the Insider 15063.0 ISO and my Creator updates are download OK through my metered wifi connection. I am currently on 15063.14 version 1703 (after updates).

However, on one of my rigs, I did encounter a problem where Windows Update was trying to download a driver and it turned out to be a Conexant audio driver. So, what I did was go to the device manager and updated the driver from there. Once done, my updates started to flow. After that, I went through every device and manually checked for updates and I found several PCI components that download updated drivers.

Sorry to hear you are having problems.

Microsoft Announces New Monthly Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Creators Update

Microsoft rolls out new cumulative updates every month on Patch Tuesday, including here not only security fixes targeting vulnerabilities in Windows 10 and installed Microsoft software, but also OS improvements and other tweaks refining the overall experience.

Today, the company announced that it would publish a second cumulative update for businesses running Windows 10 Creators Update, this time including non-security fixes.

Microsoft says that although it wants to release one such cumulative update every month (in addition to the security release on Patch Tuesday), there might be cases when more than a single extra cumulative update is shipped, depending on the bugs that it needs to fix.

These updates will be listed as ?Updates? in WSUS and Configuration Manager, with certain exceptions when critical issues affecting organizations are targeted, so the updates will be flagged as ?Critical Updates.?

Customers who use Windows Update for Business won?t have these updates installed automatically if options to defer quality updates are in place.

You can simply ignore these updates
The software giant explains that Windows 10 users getting these updates will be allowed to deploy them just like the updates that are shipped on Patch Tuesday, but at the same time, be provided with options to deploy each of them only to a subset of devices.

?This enables the organization to ensure that... Read more

Hi,There are a couple of options.First lets perform a disk cleanup and try to create space on drive. Right-click on the drive c: in any folder and click on properties.  Now click on disk cleanup and wait while the space gets calculated, In the next window click on clean up system files and wait for further calculation. Now in the window that appears mark all the unnecessary file (such as old updates, temporary files etc...) and press OK and delete the files. See if there is enough space for installation.Insert a Usb pendrive with at least 10 GB of free space and start computer. During installation of the update if there is not enough space it should give you the option to use the drive for installation purpose. After the installation is complete you can remove drive.Take a look at this link: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-update/not-enough-disk-space-for-annive...Hope it helps,David

So how can I ensure that I DO NOT get the creators update?

Answer:How to NOT GET Windows 10 Creators Update

margrave55 said:

... and a boatload of posts scattered elsewhere ... ... all pointing to problems with it.

There are also a 'boatload of posts' saying we've had no problems with it - I'm one.

What version do you have at present? You'll have to get Creators eventually when your current version reaches end of support. The original 10240 release has already done so, 1511 will be next to go.

Some problems are down to known hardware issues. Microsoft blocks PCs with such hardware from receiving Creators Update through windows update. If yours is such a PC it won't be offered to you until Microsoft has fixed these issues. If you manually install Creators Update you bypass these blocks, some of the reported problems are due to manual installs rather than waiting for windows update to say the PC is ready for the update.

Hi, I updated Windows 10 with "Creators Update" and since then, the Windows cannot identify my notebook - HP 255 G2 and I cannot findy any driver. HP Support Assisstant does not help.  I found a website, where HP shows type of products that were tested for the Creators Update, and HP 255 G2 is not listed. Therefore, it has not been tested yet, I suppose. I do not wonder, therefore, why my OS cannot identify the notebook, but my question is: Is the model HP 255 G2 going to be tested and will it be resolved in order to be recognized by Windows 10 after Creators Update? Thank you

it looks like the Windows 10 Creators Update will be releasing on April 11, but if you can?t wait that long there are ways of getting the latest major update for Windows 10 right now...it's available via the Windows Insider program (which is free and only requires a signup)...you do need a Microsoft Account though

I prefer downloading the iso through the Insider website...current build there is 15058 (but I believe MS is up to 15061 now)...

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windowsinsiderpreviewadvanced

anyone try it out yet?...any major issues?

Answer:Windows 10 Creators Update

I've got it installed on a Surface Pro 3, the latest build seems to have ironed out most of the issues I've seen. The only nagging one for me, which won't apply to many, is that Edge becomes unresponsive after coming out of sleep and has to be restarted. The nicest thing for me, tile folders, makes the Start Screen much cleaner if you have a ton pinned to it like me.

Also it seems a bit sleeker and better on battery. Just a observation, nothing formally tested. The big deal will be we see how the upgrade process works.

Hello,I am willing to try another more time (this will be the last try) to update my system. As you already know, my system is Windows 10, originally installed the Hebrew version and tailored on it the English language. Also installed Office 2007 and other programs installed.Right now, after some updates were recently installed, system's version is 1511 (OS Build 10586.1007).Once made a try to create the Iso file with the tool and tried to update - it did not work. And by the way, the Iso file was a copy of current system. Now I am asking your help to decide which way to go, I face 3 options:
1. The traditional way, in the system's setting 'chk for updates' and so on, this is lot of time and lot of updates.
2. From "https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10"
by pressing the 'update now' button, or
3. From "https://www.microsoft.com/he-il/software-download/windows10"
pressing same button, this is the windows Hebrew site.Cannot make a clean install as this will wipe Office and all other programs.Made a new updated image backup with Macrium on a second disk.Cannot boot from usb, no such option in bios settings. So waiting for your help, and if possible, step by step.ThanksMotim
PS. Any antivirus software is not installed, only windows defender.

Oh my, I come onto this forum for the first time trembling in my socks. My question has to do with what Windows update (Creators update) does with the Windows.old directory. Some are saying it will vapourize after 10 days, some say after 30 days. Mine has passed the 10 day mark so obviously it doesn't disappear at that point.
I realize I can remove it with Disk Cleanup but do you happy folk recommend doing that? Windows is working flawlessly. Also, something I find kind of weird and wonderful. I had about 48 Gigs free on my drive before the update. I have 42 now. But the Windows.old Directory is showing 32 Gigs. Something in the Math isn't adding up. If I remove this .old Directory, that will put me at roughly 70 Gigs free. Something isn't make sense with the numbers. Any idea as to what I'm missing?

Answer:Windows.old folder in Windows 10 Creators Update

As a matter of abundant precaution, I'd suggest you wait and let Windows 10 delete it for you automatically after the time period is over.
If you need more information, get it here - Delete or remove Windows.old folder after Windows Upgrade
And oh, sometimes the math in Windows just doesn't add, so I wouldn't worry much about it.

Since installing the creators update (and all subsequent updates) my computer has been running much slower. Not everything is affected and the two most noticeable things are-

1) When bringing up the permission screen for anything that needs admin status - this takes twice as long as it used to both to load and to go back to desktop after approving. Each takes about 7 seconds occasionally more.

2) When opening any browser for the first time (Chrome, Firefox, IE or Opera) again this is taking about double the time it used to

Most other things, including start up and shut down are about the same as before creators update -

My specs are
MS Widows 10 Pro 64 bit
CPU - AMD FX 8350 eight core 4.34 GHz
RAM - 16 GB
VIDEO Geoforce GTX760 with 8GB memory
System and programmes drive is SSD with plenty of space
All other date on additional drives

I run Secure A Plus anti virus

Not sure what I should be looking at specifically for items 1 and 2 above

Hi all

Just had a freeze of my windows 10 when I was out of the room. I was streaming a radio station and left Cent (Chrome clone) browser open and when I came back to the PC the sound was glitching, like repeating a sound very quickly and mouse and keyboard had frozen.

Nothing in Event log other than unexpected loss of power - kernel event. I had to press the hard reset button as nothing was responding.

Have updated the sound drivers on my 64 bit Windows 10 Pro with the latest from Realtek. I had a feeling the screen saver was about to kick in could it be a graphics problem?

Any suggestions welcome. Sorry no dump files as it froze.

I think there may be a serious bug with it and if anyone else can confirm it, that would be great.
My monitor has multiple refresh rates 60,100,120,144hz. Sometimes I use a custom refresh rate of 80hz for certain games that I set in Nvidia Control Panel. However, none of my games acknowledge any custom refresh rates (the desktop is fine), only the preset ones of 60,100,120,144hz are recognised. I have tried several Nvidia drivers with the same result. This only happened after I cleanly installed the Creators Update. If anyone else could please confirm this, it would be much appreciated.

Answer:Any Windows 10 Creators Update users out there?

Well, after several hours I finally fixed the bug. It was caused by the Creators update GAME MODE.
Turn all this shit off and it reverts back to normal.

Edit - the bug returned, but if I reboot after enableing any custom refresh rates, then it seems to hold.

This is my overall experience with the Windows 10 Creators Update.

Everything works well.

It seems fast.

Microsoft Edge is so much better than before when discussing speed and freezing. Microsoft Edge no longer freezes up when visiting other sites other than tenforums, banking accounts, and Microsoft. tenforums, our banking accounts, and Microsoft have always worked well with Edge.

Overall, I love all what they have done with it. It seems very nice and reliable.

Great job, Microsoft!

Answer:Overall Experience with the Windows 10 Creators Update

I don't really use Edge. I use Opera & Chrome more.
As far as the other stuff in Creators Update, it will be a While before I mess with it.
I like the install/setup process more now.
Turned all ads off right off the bat.

I don't see the Game Mode working with the majority of our games.
My pc doesn't need it, really, as it's not low-end.
The game recording I don't need, as AMD Crimson ReLive already has it.
The 3D stuff, I'll probably never use.
Problems with my hands due to diabetes, so I won't be drawing with a mouse anytime soon.
That's by no means saying I dislike the Creators Update.
I just did the upgrade install with it yesterday, as soon as it was available.
Then this morning I found out Microsoft released the iso for it, so I did a clean install on my old pc.
I hardly use my old pc, though.

The only thing that I seem to like so far from this update is how the colon for the time in the bottom right corner of the Taskbar got visually fixed!

Let me explain...
The colon that separates the hours from the minutes has been fixed; the distance of the bottom dot to the bottom of the text field must have some space that is equal to the space of the distance of the top dot to the top of the text field. Did I confuse you with that sentence? Let's draw a picture.

This is now correct:

The colon didn't use to have any space at the bottom; it laid on that invisible line making it look a little lazy by not slightly hovering off the ground. Let's draw a picture of what I'm talking about:
You don't notice a difference because you dunno what the hell I'm talking about? Let's compare them side-to-side, so you can see what my crackhead mind is talking about:
Look at the colon on the left clock and compare it to the colon on the right clock. On the left colon, notice how there's an equidistance of blank space above the top dot that looks the same as the empty space of the distance of the bottom dot to the ground? Now look at the right clock... the top dot looks like it has space above it, yet the bottom dot is sitting lazily on the ground! BRO, get your ass up and hover so you can look symmetrical and look more correct, and more eye-appealing.

Finally my clock doesn't have that issue anymore because of the update. I'll take a screen shot of my clock, but I do have a modific... Read more

Get to Know the Windows 10 Creators Update with These 150 Screenshots

The 150-picture gallery
Microsoft Edge is one particular app getting improved, and in addition to features such as pinning tabs aside and more extensions, the browser is also benefiting from new security tools, such as click-to-run for Flash content you come across online.

Windows Defender is evolving to Windows Defender Security Center to group all security features in the OS, while the new blue light filter is there to make sure that you can continue working on the PC during the night by reducing the amount of blue generated by your monitor.

The Creators Update is undoubtedly worth installing, and the huge photo gallery below is supposed to help you get to know the new OS version before you actually proceed with the deployment. There might be other new features that we didn?t get to include in the gallery, but the 150 pics should be enough to help you get an idea of what?s to come in this update.

In the meantime, if you want to try out the Creators Update yourself before it goes live via Windows Update, you can download the preview builds that were released to insiders. Build 15063 is RTM and comes with the same features as the one you?ll get April 11.Click to expand...

Hello,
I've got quite the issue with my craptop, it's quite the long story.
I've got a Lenovo G580, Model No: 20150; 6 GB RAM DDR3, Nvidia GeForce 635M.
OS: Windows 10, Version 1703, Build 15063.0
It all began with me wanting to get the Creators Update. I had downloaded the Windows update assistant, got all necessary files and began installation. Laptop froze at 32% and did not move for at least an hour. I forced shut it down and then Windows tried repairing itself, then restoring to an older version - both processes failed. Got a clean install of an older version of Windows 10. All was well until drivers had to be downloaded by the system. All drivers that were downloaded were installed and I was prompted to restart. After the reboot, windows logo passed and I was looking at a completely black screen with not back light at all, no mouse curse, no nothing.
Determined that the issue was due to faulty graphics card driver. In order to boot into Windows and actually log on, I had to enter the BIOS and edit the Graphics card options. The only two I've got available are UMA Graphics and Switchable Graphics. Switched to the UMA one in order to actually use my laptop.
I had entered Safe Mode and removed the Nvidia driver that Windows had installed using Guru3D's driver remove tool, downloaded latest driver from Nvidia's website, installed it and then got my next issue.
Logging on, I was welcomed with an error message saying:
nvapi.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it... Read more

Greetings again,
My partner's laptop; HP Compaq 6910p has been running Windows 10 with 4GB RAM for about a year.
Originally picked it up refurnished with Windows 7 and upgraded it. Since then I have swapped the hard drive for a SSD.

Problem is that it doesn't want to update to the Windows 10 Creators update. It comes up with an error message saying that Windows 10 couldn't be installed and that 'you can't install Windows on a USB flash drive using Setup.'
I wasn't trying to install Windows on a USB flash drive... The laptop has been runnig Windows 10 for almost a year.

I am a little confused. I would like the laptop to be running the latest updates so that it can remain web friendly.

Any thoughts what I should do?

Best wishes,

Hi all Since I installed Windows 10 Creators Update (someday in April) I am having an issue with the mouse cursor being very small in all citrix applications and on some parts of the screen in Word. This totally drives me nuts since i support most of my customers in citrix applications. After browsing the forums with no results whatsoever I decided to roll back to the previous version of windows and give the Creators Update another go in a year or so. Since I couldn't roll back to the previous Version of Windows in the Windows Update app (the option just doesn't show up),  I did a full restore by means of the function provided in the Lenovo BIOS. That did work fine but it just reinstalled with the current Version of Windwos (1703 wich is still Creators Update). So no joy there. How can I restore to the Windows-Version that the Notebook was shipped with? I can see a unmounted partition of 1 GB in size. That sounds promising although a bit small... Any ideas? Thank you Markus

I have a PC with an SSD. Despite having the program files on the same disc as Windows 10, I still had a problem with the anniversary update not working, Despite trying several workarounds, It still failed part-way through and reverted to my earlier version. This problem lasted for months, then suddenly, about 6 weeks ago during an automatic update, it worked and I had the anniversary update. I presumed from this tat Microsoft had solved the problem affecting "a very few customers". Now we have the creators update and guess what? It gets to 40% of the update process after 2 reboots and stalls with an error message saying it cannot update a component of f windows. I tried downloading the update from the MS site as recommended, but the same thing happened.
Has anybody else experienced this? Have Microsoft screwed up again? If anyone knows ao a workaround that works, I would be grateful of the help. I have no wish to wait another 6 months for updates that work.

Answer:Creators Update and Windows 10 Home

Hello, disregarding what you are doing with Windows update, and presuming you have the Anniversary Edition (you don't say which build is installed) then:

MS rolls out each major build over a period of several months. Just think of the huge load on the net and on their servers if they tried to deliver it to everyone.

MS prioritises 'low risk' 'new' computers in some manner.

It may take a couple of months before you are offered the upgrade.

Yes, on any Win 10 PC you can download it and upgrade manually. In fact, that is my definite preference.
Why? It's under my control.
1. I update my disk image of my existing PC. That means I can restore my PC to the same working state it was in from that disk image if something goes wrong.
2. I create a bootable medium of the new build of Win 10.
Why? Because it can be used
- to upgrade several PCs
- for repair purposes
- to reinstall
- to reattempt the upgrade if it fails.

(We strongly and repeatedly recommend the routine use of disk imaging e.g. Macrium Reflect (free) - you can than recover quite quickly even from a failed disk or ransomware without technical help, not to mention user error).

3. I disconnect any unnecessary peripherals, disable my AV, remove one utility I know will conflict.

4. I attempt the upgrade. I prefer to do this without the complication of downloading additional updates at the same time. I will do that subsequently.

A note on restricting Windows updates in general
I set mine to 'notify only' - that is, I g... Read more

Next week, Microsoft will release the Windows 10 Mobile Creators Update for just thirteen handsets, but the rollout has already begun for PCs. Last week, Microsoft began to push the latest version of its OS to PCs through Windows Update, but it's not making its way to all machines at the same time.

Microsoft said that "the first phase will target newer devices, especially those we tested together with our OEM hardware partners", before gradually expanding to more devices. Last year's Windows 10 Anniversary Update deployment took several months to complete, and the company has said the Creators Update will take a similar amount of time.

It's not yet clear exactly which PCs Microsoft is prioritizing with the first wave of its rollout, as there's no definitive list of those devices. But if the Creators Update isn't yet showing up for your PC in Windows Update, Microsoft has made it easy for you to jump the queue and upgrade to the latest version right now.Click to expand...

Hi there -

Using Win 10 Anniversary Update I had no problem fixing the installation using DISM.

Having done a clean install of the Creator Update and using DISM I get the message: The component store is repairable - The operation completed successfully,
What does this actually mean?
Has the component store being repaired or not? Or does it mean the DISM option has completed the scan?

However, I am unable to repair the installation simple because that the source file cannot be found - or similar, even though I am using the same code as I used before with either an ISO file on DVD or flash drive.

The code I am using is: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /source:WIM:G:\Sources\Install.wim:1 /LimitAccess

Your help in this matter greatly appreciated.

I just finished upgrading to the Creators Update, and would like to know the best Windows Update settings. I don't want any unexpected restarts, and I would like the option of being asked before installing each update, so I can properly prepare, rather than risk Windows automatically installing it at an inopportune time.

In the last version of Windows that I had (the Anniversary Update), I used the following trick recommended to me by a member of this forum:

dalchina said:

Now you can also take control of Windows Update. This is what I do:
Using (for convenience) Winaero's free tweaker (it gives the full manual equivalent if you don't trust such tools) I have set Windows to notify only. No unexpected downloads or restarts.

Read the instructions carefully. It's confusing.
a. Click Check for updates. Wait.
b. Click the button on the tweaker.
c. Check you see this (text at bottom).
Attachment 138190

It worked very well, and Windows always gave me the option to perform updates, rather than automatically downloading them.

However, I do not know whether it is safe to use this method in the Creators Update. Also, even if it is safe, I don't know whether it's my best best option, or whether the Creators Update now provides a better one.

These days, the notify only method is no longer explicitly available through Settings but through Group Policy. Another workaround is to set your home connection as metered in which case WU won't update automatically (you'll have to check for updates manually, because it won't notify you of pending updates, either -- but if you're a regular here at TenForums, you'll be notified in the News forum every time a new update shows up anyway). As for "*Some Settings..." that means some kind of policy tweak or change has been applied to your PC, and causes that message to appear. Making this go away turns out to be more trouble than it's worth: I've had it on my production PC since 1507 and I've yet to be able to clear it up since (along with lots of other people, if you search out the many threads devoted to that topic here).

Now you can also take control of Windows Update. This is what I do:
Using (for convenience) Winaero's free tweaker (it gives the full manual equivalent if you don't trust such tools) I have set Windows to notify only. No unexpected downloads or restarts.

Attachment 138189

Read the instructions carefully. It's confusing.
a. Click Check for updates. Wait.
b. Click the button on the tweaker.
c. Check you see this (text at bottom).
Attachment 138190

It worked very well, and Windows always gave me the option to perform updates, rather than automatically downloading them.

However, I do not know whether it is safe to use this method in the Creators Update. Also, even if it is safe, I don't know whether it's my best best option, or whether the Creators Update now provides a better one.

Currently, Windows Update on my computer looks like this (due to the settings caused by the Creators Update):

What would you recommend that I do? Also, what is that mes... Read more

It appears it'll be released during "Patch Tuesday" on April 11th, and appears to be version 1703 build 150xx.

I have just updated my Windows 10 computer to the Windows 10 Creators Update! Now, every time after I log in, my desktop is completely black with only my cursor and there is a blank window in the top right corner that says, "Personalized Settings (Not Responding)" on the header! Every time I click on it, it tells me that Explorer has stopped working and it tells me to either close the program or wait for the program to respond! Every time I open up Task Manager to restart Explorer, Explorer is still black with that same blank window! I tried disabling my internet connection, signing out, and, restarting my computer! So far, nothing has worked! Can you please help me get Explorer to start working, again?

Answer:Windows 10 Creators Update Explorer Not Opening!

Hello, do you perhaps have Gigabytes App Centre installed?

There are a few programs which don't seem compatible with the Creator's Update.

You may be able to access Safe Mode (e.g. via shift + left click on Restart and follow the prompts). Please confirm.

After the newest update on May 21, I get that message when I plug in my phone to my laptop. The phone will charge, but it will not connect to the computer. The phone does not have a problem because when I plug it into my old computer running Vista, it works fine. Since I use my phone as a modem to connect to the internet, I can't get online with that computer in order to download anything. I tried to do a system restore, but that failed. I undid the updates, but still get the same message. I'm afraid the update changed something and I don't know how to fix it. I see numerous threads all over the internet saying this is a common problem. I am not very tech savvy. I have tried several of the things mentioned such as restarting computer and removing battery for hard boot, but nothing has helped. Help!

Windows 10 Creators Update Launching for PCs First, Phones Getting It Thereafter

Microsoft is now working on giving the final touches to Windows 10 Creators Update, as the update is feature-locked and the full focus is on bug fixing and performance improvements, with the launch expected to take place as soon as April for retail users.

The Creators Update is bringing important updates to both PCs and smartphones, and although Microsoft has been trying to keep its devices in sync, it appears that the release won?t take place on all devices at the same time.
Since the release of the Creators Update is just around the corner, we?ve asked Microsoft whether it plans to update all devices at the same time or prioritize the launch on a specific platform. And it appears that between the two, PCs are Microsoft?s priority with the Creators Update, so they?ll be the first getting the new OS version, while Windows 10 Mobile devices will receive it at a later time. Here?s Microsoft?s very short statement on this:

?The initial update will be for desktop, but other versions will be available thereafter,? a company spokesperson told us.

No target date for phones, but it?s probably ?soon?
As far as Windows 10 Mobile is concerned, it?s not clear when exactly the firm wants to release the Creators Update, but it?s once again the ?soon? trademark that?s already causing so much frustration in the phone community.

Work on Windows 10 Creators Update is expected... Read more

This pc has run smoothly for quite a while now, until the creators update. now, it crashes every day. I was getting windows out of memory crashes, but i installed the latest drivers for chipset, both lan, bluetooth, vga, and audio. I even rolled back my gpu driver to 372. something. I even re-installed windows to the anniversary, but it updated to cu during the process. Now, i get video driver crashed messages and the pc has to be reset because it is completely unresponsive. I have run virus checks and poolmon trying to figure out what is going on, but it still crashes every day at least once. anybody have any ideas? if you need any screenshots or bug reports, just let me know. I am so frustrated with this it's unreal.

Answer:Windows 10 creators update constant crashing

Hi, it could be helpful if you have a look at Reliability History (type Reli in Cortana's search bar). Explore any red x's and post any interesting reports - in particular, those relating to times the PC crashed.

Note that with upgrade you may now have different driver versions to what you had with the AU. There should have been no need for you to manually update your PC drivers.

Try a clean boot and see if you still experience any crashes.
Perform a Clean Boot in Windows 10 to Troubleshoot Software Conflicts Windows 10 Performance Maintenance Tutorials
(part 1)

You say you have tried the same graphics driver version you were using with the AU.

You could also research your MBO/PC and see if others have experience of this.

even re-installed windows to the anniversary

Unfortunately you can't now roll back to the AU as you have clean installed the CU - assuming that's what you meant? Or did you try to roll back to the AU?

On 30th July 2017, I bought a new HP x360 pavilion 64 bit with OS build 10586.962 and version 1511 single language.
I started updating my laptop ever since to Creators Update via running Windows Update. But the Windows update would say "Your device is up to date".
So I ran the Windows 10 Update Assistant. It completed the update to a 100% and then it started the update again ... This happened around 4-5 times.
I ran the Windows Update troubleshooter. But nothing happened.
I did everything there's online to update this laptop.
Now I don't know what will work to update ..
Seeking help!
Thank you!

Now that Windows 10 Creators Update (version 1703) is released, and HP has published its list of compatible notebooks and desktops for the new OS update, why is my notebook not on the tested list. My notebook is the HP Envy 15-k204na and is less than 2 years old. In fact my HP Care Pack is just about to finish. I think it is outrageous that a relatively new high end notebook is not being tested, and of course hopefully proved to be compatible. Can any of the the HP experts furnish any reason as to why this situation should be the case.

Hi, greetings all from Argentina. I upgraded my laptop to the new Windows build, and now I can't boot to Windows, it keeps restarting when the Windows logo is displayed. I tried to repair the boot from the USB recovery prompt with bootrec /fixboot and bcdboot c:\Windows /l en-us /s v: /f ALL options, but they didn't work. And the System Restore option doesn't work either, just show the message ""To use System Restore, you must specify which Windows installation to restore.
Restart this computer, select an operating system, and then select System Restore"" How can I "restart" if I can't boot?

Can anybody tell me what can I try before I perform a clean install?

Thanks in advance

Answer:Boot Loop after the Windows 10 Creators Update

On another pc, install Macrium Reflect Free.

Create a USB Rescue Drive.

Boot from it on your pc.

Select Restore tab and click on link 'fix windows boot problems'.

It should list Windows 10. If so click next, finish. With luck, pc will now be able to boot.

Okay so I installed the creators update 2 days ago and my "gaming" pc's performace is slower than ever. I also checked the cpu workload when I play certain games and it has DOUBLED since I updated. I can literally feel how slow my pc got even when im only browsing the web. I tried the "game mode" which does nothing for me performance wise. Im not sure what to do since I can't go back to the previous version where everything was fine.

Answer:Windows 10 Creators Update performance issues

I've noticed the same on a clean install, I could usually run several applications at once but no longer.

Hello,
after upgrading to Windows 10 Creators Update, one of the several PCI ports remains disabled a device driver in the device manager. It is about:

Intel (R) 5 Series / 3400 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 3 - 3B46

Also tested clean installation Win 10.
After manual turn it on, the driver work correctly.
I do not see anything in my system problem functionality.
Can you turn it on permanently?

Hi! I've already received the notification to update my Windows 10 x64 Home twice. At the end of the process, after several automatic reboots, at the very end there is the "Restoring previous Windows version" message. I've tried all the other methods (Media Creation Tool, Update Manager, ISO from hard disk and from DVD). The result was only the same.

This was a couple of months ago. From then, I gave up and never received the prompt to update from WU again, apart from regular WU for my W10 version which is AU v1607, Anniversary Update.

My question is: could it be that it is necessary to leave some space unallocated in system C: drive? I had a 900MB of unallocated space, and just to not waste space I created a new partition for my office files. At the time of the updates there was no unallocated space available. Could it be this the cause?

ASUS X751L, Intel i7, 8 GB of ram, GEFORCE GTX 950M
Windows 10 Home Edition x64, v1607 build 14393.1358

Any advice please?

Answer:Error updating Windows to Creators Update

Please post a screenshot of your partitions- e.g. Minitool Partition Wizard - a 3rd party program is preferable if you have one.

Failing that, Disk Management (it won't show one partition if yours uses EFI).

Please make sure all text is visible in each column.
To post a screenshot please use the Insert Image icon above your post to the left of the video icon.

You will need sufficient free space on C:, also best to have at least 500Mb unallocated on your system disk.
Make sure all unneeded peripherals are disconnected; disable or uninstall any 3rd party AV.

There are plenty of threads about failed upgrades here- please feel free to browse.

Also get ready to do a manual upgrade- download the iso and create a bootable Win 10 medium. Guides in the Tutorial section if needed.

Check your disk- use Hard Disk Sentinel (trial) and post a screenshot of its GUI.

Hi

I was notified by Windows Update that my system was ready to be upgraded to Windows 10 Creators Update. I always prefer to do clean installs, so I use the media creation tool and cleanly installed Windows 10 Creators Update.

I have my monitor set to turn off after a set period of time, but sometimes when I want the display to resume (by moving my mouse or keyboard), the screen will turn black and elements of my browsers (Edge and Firefox) will be missing. Windows reports the my video driver is up to date. I had absolutely no issues whatsoever with the display on the Anniversary Update.

Event Viewer reports the following:
"Display driver igfx stopped responding and has successfully recovered."

I also don't play any games at all, so it's not related to that.

I have tried closing all open applications, thinking it might be a conflict with one of those, but the issue continued regardless of whether or not apps were open (obviously there are still background tasks and services running). Previously, the display stopped responding only when I used my keyboard or mouse to resume the monitor from sleep (the PC is not set to sleep or hibernate), but I checked Device Manager this morning and there's an entry overnight for the display not responding, so now the display not responding even when I'm not resuming the monitor from sleep.

Note that this doesn't happen every single time I resume the monitor from sleep.

Hi. I have just updated to the Windows 10 Creators Update (15063) - however the EasyResume feature has now stopped working.  I know this is tied to the power management driver and the Lenovo Instant On service, however I have tried to re-install all the relevant drivers without success.  Does anyone know how to get this working again? Thanks.

Hello Everyone, I have an Envy 17 machine running windows 10 and I want to install the latest win 10 creators update. I ran the upgrade tool called "Windows10Upgrade9252.exe" and after it downloads everything and asks me to reboot the machine, after the reboot the update process starts with 0% but in a second it all stops and the machine reboots without any error message. I ranWindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab but it did not help at all. The "windows  update" did not find any updates. It only tells "Good news! The Windows 10 Creators Update is on its way. Want to be one of the first to get it?" What could be the problem with my machine and how to figure it out how to solve this? Why am I unable to install Win10 creators update? Thank you in advance!
