Hyperlinks in 2007 Outlook/Edge/Win 10

Question: Hyperlinks in 2007 Outlook/Edge/Win 10

"This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer"
This is the message I receive when I click on a hyperlink:-
I have spent hours,[really] exploring this on the net...seems all the pages talk about this topic with regard to IE and Office Outlook 2010 and later and usually Win7
But I'm getting it with the above combination; Outlook 2007, Win 10, Edge.
Here's the most recent activities I've done to try and fix.
1 Uninstalled Chrome, using Revo uninstaller pro, including all left-overs.
2 Uninstalled Office, also with Revo, completely etc.
3 Re-installed Office 2007.
4 Set Edge as default.
5 Set Outlook as default.
But I still get the same message
I have looked at changing the registry as per 'Slipstick' instructions, but they don't seem to apply.
And maybe this should be in the Edge forum.
But I would really appreciate any thoughts from you guys please.

Preferred Solution: Hyperlinks in 2007 Outlook/Edge/Win 10

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am running Windows XP Pro SP3. Whenever I boot the computer, hyperlinks in Outlook take a long time to connect. If I do a system restore(it does not matter which point I restore to, even a point from the prior day and the restore tells me there have been no changes) the hyperlinks now work instantly.
I have run all the updates from the Microsoft site and also run the Microsoft fix me and Office diagnostics which tell me there are no errors. It seems the restore reloads something correctly that the boot up does not.
Thanks for any suggestions.

A few months ago I found that I cannot click hyperlinks in my email within Outlook 2007. When I do click a hyperlink the following message comes up:

"This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator."

I have spent hours looking for a solution and have yet to find one. I have gone through and made sure that Internet Explorer is the Default Browser and checked all settings in both IE and Outlook. I am not necessarily illiterate when it comes to computers but if it comes down to something like file paths or what not, I have no idea what to do.

I have McAfee Virus, and currently have Google Chrome, but this happened before I had Google Chrome.

I hope someone knows what is going on, because it is becoming quite the hassle not being able to click a link in my email.

Up until today I have never had any difficulty opening a link that would be in any email I received. Now, I can't access any since I get an error message that claims "the operations have been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this Computer. Contact Your System Administrator".
Interestingly enough in trying to find a solution to this on Google, I happened on to a Vista Forum site where someone was asking the same question after installing and UNinstalling GOOGLE CHROME. (that is exactly what I had done between yesterday and today and so no doubt this is not just a coincidence!).
I have tried everything - that is, anything that is within the realm of my thinking....
Any ideas...??? (it is aggravating to say the least.....)
Thank you.
(I am operating Windows XP PRO - Office 2007).

Hi, I have an odd issue with Office 2007. It started with links not being "clickable" in Outlook, but I now notice that links seem to not work in any Office application (no, this isn't the common security issue with links being blocked, nor the common IE not set as default browser issue).

When going to Insert > Hyperlink in any Office application, the hyperlink dialog box does not appear. Nothing. Clicking the button 1 time or 5 times results in nothing. The button can be pressed, but the dialog never opens, even after typing text and highlighting.

I have tried many things including Resetting IE Web Settings, reinstalling Office 2007, reinstalling IE 6 (we have to have this version here), reinstalling SP3 for XP.

Does anyone have a fix for this?

Thanks

How do relative hyperlinks work in Access 2007???

We use an Access data base to organize and look up project papers, documents etc. in an digital library where you can click on hyperlinks to open the single documents.

Since we use the data base from different pcs (not online/internet/intranet!), we linked the documents with relative hyperlinks so that everyone can safe the database and docs to his pc and the links will still work once he adjusted the base.

So far so good! Everything worked fine while using MSAccess 2000.

Now we changed to Windows Vista and MSAccess 2007, and all of a sudden, I can not find a way to change the base for a relative hyperlink anymore.
Where is it hiding?

hi all
i have created a small database that alllows the user to add and goto websites via a form.
on the form the user enters the web address into a textbox, on pressing the add button this stores the web address in a tbl called webaddresses(the field is webaddress) a combobox on the form allows the user to select a web address and by clicking on the address takes the user to the site.
what i would like is to add a delete button on the form, that will delete a web address if no longer required or entered incorrectly, based on the combo selection, if this is not possible, what is the best way to delete a web address from the table, via a form, any code would be appreciated.
many thanks

Answer:access 2007 delete hyperlinks

Is the form using the webaddresses table as it's Record Source.
If it is you can just use some simple vba to set the hyperlink to "".
Or you can delete the whole record.

Operating System: Windows 7 32bit
Browser: IE8

I have embedded some hyperlinks to web sites in a PowerPoint presentation. However, the links aren't working like they should be. When I go into slide show mode, I click on the hyperlink. I get the little blue whirling circle indicating the system is working, but the web page never opens.
However, when I escape from slide show view and minimize the PowerPoint presentation, there is a highlighted tab in Internet Explorer for the web site I was trying to open. That's not the way embedded hyperlinks are supposed to work. Why is this happening? And how can I fix it?

Recently a customer of the company I work for did some upgrade to their system (not exactly sure what). The result is that when they send a mail containing a hyperlink to file on their website, the link doesn't work.
When you hover over the link you should get something like 'https//thiscompany.com/page.do?DOCID=123456'.
However, what we actually get on Outlook 2003 is 'outbind://39-00000000C176F3FF67E6754394476777057BDCA60700071475F5FEB9AC4FABB3D7C8EE9381620000007059

On mac mail it looks like this 'x-msg://24/thiscompany.com/page.do?DOCID=123456'.

The links work fine on Outlook 2010. Any idea what's happening here?

I recently deleted my colleague's distribution list. Fortunately I have another colleague who has the same distribution list on her PC . It is the same outlook 2007 on both PC . I followed the usual way of exporting and importing the csv file in both window and csv format . But I am still not able to get the distribution list on the deleted desktop ? What is the possible issue here ?

Andrew

Answer:Importing Distribution list from Outlook 2007 to outlook 2007

The only advise I have is to give you incite into the cvs file.

It is the equivalent of a XML markup, but a file a programmer likes to deal with better. It's laid out in what is known as comma delimited formatting. That means, when the file is being read by a program, it stops at the comma's. Everything before the comma is the current entry. Everything after the comma is the next entry, and before etc. The read stops when no more commas are found, and the last entry is taken.

Comma delimited format should allow for the cross platform exchange. If it doesn't try using the XML format instead.

Hope I helped.

After trying everything on this site to resolve my issue of hyperlinks to web items in Outlook taking 10 minutes to fully load the web page, I tried this & it worked.

In Windows Explorer, go to Programs, & find Microsoft Office & click on Office 12 to show all the files. Right click on the Outlook application. Select Troubleshoot Compatability from the drop down menu. It will guide you through a series of 3 or 4 questions, select "don't know" each time (because slow hyperlinks isn't listed for troubleshooting). Once you have completed these steps, it will troubleshoot possible compatability issues. Finally, it will ask you to try the change & if it is fine, save the settings it changed. For me, it immediately solved the issue & it said it found one compatibility problem.

Answer:hyperlinks in outlook express

My guess is that what's happened is that your default browser is no longer IE.
OE's hyperlink handleing doesn't work if IE isn't your default browser.
Why? Well... MicroSchloft was trying to make eveyone use IE with OE.
I'd say you coukld Dump OE/IE and get Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla Thunderbird.... but in the case that you actualy like OE and want to keep using it as your primary E-mail client... do this:
Run IE. Go Tools>Internet Options>Programs. Check the box beside "Internet Explorer should check to see if it is the default browser." Click OK. Close IE. Open IE again. When it asks you if it should be the default browser, say yes.
Open OE. Cilck a hyperlink in an HTML E-mail. It should now open your link in IE.
EIEIO.

I've checked all the dll files and get the following error when entering the regsvr32 Mshtml.dll file: "dllregisterserver entry point was not found. The file cannot be registered."

From my research I should be able to use Insert/File/Insert/Insert as Hyperlink to add a link to a network file in my Outlook 2000 emails. But when I go to Insert/File/Insert I don't see "Insert as Hyperlink". When I try to add the link manually by typing file://\\G:\path\path\path\filename.xls (inserting %20 for spaces in the path) I get message: Cannot find 'file:///G:/path/path/path/filename.ext. Note slashes after file: and direction of slashes in the path. It also substitutes %2520 for %20. I had tried %2520 earlier with no success but it seems it is remembering.
What am I doing wrong?

Update- I added <http://www.cnn.com> and it worked fine

Hello,

I use Windows Home XP and MS Outlook 2003. When I click on a link within an email I get the following message: "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator. Well, I'm the administrator and I hadn't the slightest idea why all the sudden I'm getting this message.

The only thing different is I installed Google Chrome, didn't like it and uninstalled it. After that I started getting this error message.

Can someone please help me fix this?

Thanks,
Dennis

Answer:Hyperlinks not working in Outlook

Hello Dennis

I found your post while searching for the exact same solution myself. I installed Chrome while trying to fix some IE7-IE8 "features." When I removed Chrome, got the same error message. Here's is what fixed it for me.
I did this under Windows Vista Business, but you may still be able to use the info. Go to internet options, either by the tools button on the browser or through control panel. Under the advanced tab, the last section shows reset internet explorer options. With all other instances of IE closed, click the "Reset" button. It will delete your temporary files and internet history as well as removes any add-ons, so be aware of that. Back to defaults. At that point, things were back to normal.

I hope that will help you,
Sal

I found one topic on the subject and followed the given instructions:

Try this:

Click Start / Run / type in; regsvr32 urlmon.dll
Click OK.

Repeat for each of the following commands:
regsvr32 mshtml.dll
regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 browseui.dll
regsvr32 msjava.dll

and two of them didn't work

regsvr32 mshtml.dll was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found. This file was not registered.

regsvr32 msjava.dll - LoadLibrary("msjava.dll") failed - the specific module could not be found.

Could someone give me some further instructions?

Also, this is my first post, and the rules for posting didn't say anything about whether or not I should post to another relevant posting that was finished or to post a new one.

Thanks

I have a user on Outlook 2003 SP2, who is currently getting the "links are disabled" anti-phishing message when receiving e-mails from within our department. Does anyone know if there is a way to allow links from only specific senders (like a safe list) without allowing them from everyone? The e-mail in question is a daily newsletter, and choosing the "enable links" option after opening a message only works while the message is open, not on future ones. We are on an Exchange 2003 server, if that helps. Any help given would be appreciated.

Hi all,

I'm having an issue trying to save the target of a hyperlink in an Outlook 2007 email message. When I click on the link the file opens in Windows Media Player (the hyperlink is to a .wmv file). I'd like to save the file itself, because it will eventually be removed from the web site. Does anyone know how to do this? When I right-click on the hyperlink, the only options I get are Open Hyperlink, Select Hyperlink and Copy Hyperlink. There is nothing like the Save Target As... option. Any help at all would be appreciated.

Answer:Saving Targets of Hyperlinks in Outlook 07

Never mind. I figured it out. I did a Save As on the email message and saved it as an HTML document. Then, after opening the HTML document, I was able to right-click and do a Save Target As... to save the clip.

We recently updated some office computers from XP to Windows 7.  Office 2010 was reinstalled and everything works fine, except that hyperlinks in Outlook won't go to the browser.  When I click on a hyperlink, I get " This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer.  Please contact your system administrator."  I'm the one with administrator rights.  I know I've overlooked something in the setup somewhere but can't figure it out.  This is only an issue in Outlook.
Any help or advice is appreciated.

I'm sorry, it's Office 2007, not that there's much difference.

Answer:Outlook 2010-error with hyperlinks

The last time I dealt with this problem it was because Google Chrome had become installed, and was set to the default web browser, which alters the registry keys that Microsoft Office uses to determine what to do when you click a hyperlink in Outlook - I don't know if it's a bug, but if Outlook doesn't see Internet Explorer in these locations, it refuses to open the hyperlink.

You could try to set Internet Explorer to your default browser again (even if you didn't know it wasn't) - but that doesn't always work - you may need to uninstall the alternate web browser, and then go into the registry to manually fix the keys.

You can use the steps at this site to fix the registry entries - obviously when working with the registry you may want to may a restore point prior to starting, and of course backup the registry before making changes.

Answer:FIREFOX and Hyperlinks from Outlook Express

If you are using winXP I believe that you have to have Firefox set as your default browser for the OS. Mine is and if I use outlook express (I prefer thunderbird) the hyperlinks open in firefox.
To check, go to: Start
Control Panel
Add or Remove Programs
Set Program Access and Defaults
expand Custom
make sure Mozilla Firefox is selected
or alternately you can select use your current web browser which should open the links in whatever browser you have active at the time

Some of my emails contain hyperlinks which do not work when I click on them.

I am using Microsoft Outlook Express 6.0. I went to Microsoft's help site with this problem and the suggestion was this:

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type the following command in the Run dialog box, and then click OK:
regsvr32 urlmon.dll

Repeat step 1 for each of the following commands:

regsvr32 mshtml.dll
regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 browseui.dll
regsvr32 msjava.dll

I've run all of the above and it still has not corrected the problem. I've kept up with the updates through Microsoft and have found in the past that sometimes when you update, new problems pop up. Most of them for me have been with Outlook Express. I still haven't figured out what the problem is with retaining passwords since the program doesn't allow me to do that either.

Any suggestions?

Hi txkyfox

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

What email messaging program are you using?

If you are using Outlook Express as your default email client,
With all windows closed.
Start > Run
Key in:
"C:\program files\outlook express\msimn.exe" /reg

Verify this is the path that msimn.exe is located and be sure to include the quotes.
This is a silent command, there will be no indication as to whether it worked or not.
________________________________________________________________

Then open Outlook Express,
Tools > Options > General tab,
and verify Outlook Express is your default messaging program at the bottom of the page.
If the buttons are greyed out, then Outlook Express has been set as your default messaging program.
________________________________________________________________

Start > Settings > Control Panel > Internet Options > Programs tab
Verify Outlook Express is the program showing in the E-Mail: window.
Apply, OK to close and save.
________________________________________________________________
If the above fails to work, close all windows and run this command:
Start > Run
key in:
regsvr32 inetcomm.dll

Let us know if that works for you or if you are using a different email program.

That outlook is old and outdated really. Microsoft doesn't even support outlook anymore they have gone to Live essentials live e-mail which is free. It's like 10 times better. It's ok to keep the office word etc, but outlook just stinks and the security stinks you gotta download 2 service packs just to secure outlook. Outlook is just garbage nothing but problems setting up security certs with it. I highly recommend downloading Microsoft Live Essentials and during the install process just check that you want windows live e-mail. Once it's installed migrate over or import your accounts and mail over to live e-mail from outlook.
