Preferred Solution: McAfee AntiVirus plus 2017

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: McAfee AntiVirus plus 2017

And that's why performance tests shouldn't be taken very seriously.
Mcafee had top rated performance in Av-comparatives? Because I believe they did pretty bad in Av-test.

I have read several recent articles that McAfee has revamped its IS with a new GUI employing new detection technology.

However, whenever I attempt to install it on one of my PC's, being that I have a 4 year license, the old version with the green border still appears.

For months, McAfee keeps saying they are gradually rolling it out. So far months have past, and nothing has changed.

Is it because the new version is too buggy?

I do not understand the delay. Does anyone know what is going on?
Is there a workaround to force the installation of the new gui?

Question:  What antivirus software is out there that is compatable with Vista?I just spent the last 6 hours trying to fix my husbands computer.  Here are the details.Vista computer, running internet explorer, outlook express mail and up to an hour ago McAfee antivirus.I kept going in circles trying to upgrade microsoft.  McAfee wouldn't update.  Seems there was missing components after a microsoft upgrade.  Not sure if that is what caused it but my husband said the problem started with the upgrade back on the 13th of November.  Numerous attempts to fix McAfee.  Used their autofix.  Messed up Vista.  Tried their un-install.  Still left parts of McAfee.  Did an un-install using Remove programs and finally got rid of it all.Totally updated Vista now but have no antivirus software.  The computer seems to be working fine.  Mail and internet works.  Clock in gadgets works.  Fingers crossed. What antivirus software is out there that works with Vista?  I don't mind paying for something if I don't have to go through what I just did.  (Please list freebies too as I don't mind upgrading after trying something out).Thank you

Answer:Vista Vs McAfee - McAfee lost! What antivirus software can I use?

I use F-Secure (ranked in top 4) and I believe they have it for Vista.  Go to www.F-secure.com  They are running a special right now.

Despite what you may have heard, your Apple computer isn't immune to malware. We tested the top programs to find the ones that will keep your Mac the safest.
Even Macs Need Antivirus Protection
Did you ever think about the people who write viruses, spyware, ransomware, and other malicious software? Why do they do it? The answer is simple?for money. Trojans steal personal data to sell. Bot herders rent out their victims to spammers. Ransomware goes for the jugular; give us your money or your files are toast. More computers use Windows than macOS, but there's no reason for these malware entrepreneurs to ignore the macOS market. There are even some attack types?phishing in particular?that are completely OS-independent. Like it or not, in this dangerous world you need antivirus protection on your Macs, not just on your Windows boxes.

Hi everyone, i have quite a few questions so i'll post separate threads rather than pollute one thread. I'm wanting to get something a lot better than windows defender. Comcast is my ISP so i can get NIS for free. As most of you are aware of Norton hasn't been doing a great job these days. There has been multiple vulnerabilities in its products that actually decreases the security of windows. Still NIS still does a pretty good job of scoring pretty well in the various test in terms of protection. I was thinking on going with either bitdefender or KIS but of course i would have to pay for those. If you were me would opt for NIS because its still pretty dang good and worlds better than bit defender or would you opt for one of the better products like KIS or bitdefender?

bitdefender free+ CF and SAP i think will be good

I have excluded Windows Defender because it's baseline protection and only 3rd party antiviruses are included here.

If your primary antivirus isn't included in the poll, mention it in the comments section.

*Please comment on why the antivirus is your personal choice for freeware protection, so that you can help others in making a decision.*

Answer:Freeware Antivirus 2017 - [MT Users choice]

Avast Free.

+ Protection above Windows Defender
+ Additional technology from AVG (IDP)
+ Easy to use (UI)
+ Hardened Mode for anyone to use
+ Web Shield Protection without a Toolbar or Extension
+ Scans router and connected devices for vulnerabilities on your Home Network
+ Smart scan scans for viruses and spyware, outdated software, home network security in a single click.

- Comes with paid-only bloatware (Cleanup, SecureLine)
- Not all additional technology is enabled by default
- Settings for finer control isn't always easy to understand
- Using Aggressive settings can cause more False Positives
- Avast SafePrice and Online Security may be a conflict of interest
- Free users are subjected to in-app Upsell promotions by Avast Marketing. Can be disabled by Upgrading.

Sometimes when I open up Firefox (in Sandboxie) I get a warning from KIS - SSL connection with invalid certificate detected.

These are the 3 certificates that I've seen fire the message:

secure.informaction.com
Issuer: Let's Encrypt Authority X

*.us-west.moz.works
*.cdn.mozilla.net
Issuer: DigiCert SHA2 Secure Server CA

*.google.com
Issuer: Google Internet Authority G2

I always select "disconnect" and it doesn't seem to affect my web browsing. Has anyone else seen this? I've read that KIS isn't compatible with Sandboxie, so maybe that's the issue?

I also use DNSCrypt, not sure if that is complicating this further.

Any input is appreciated, thanks.

Answer:Kaspersky Antivirus 2017 - SSL connection/invalid certificates

I think K2017 (even after patch C) still has some compatibility issues with SandBoxie, I'm also getting secure connection issue if I try to open FF with SB, but Chrome seems to works well even getting also a warning...

Try to disable DNSCrypt temporally, but I'm not using it and getting also the secure connection issue in FF + SB...

New version of ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus+ was tested by pcmag.com.

Results: Editor rating: excellent
Pros:
Tough, effective two-way firewall. Antivirus protection licensed from Kaspersky. Free. Several useful bonus features.

Cons
Hardly any results from independent testing labs. Doesn't include every feature of Kaspersky antivirus. No phishing protection. Behavioral detection flagged both good and bad programs.

Bottom Line
ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus+ combines a top-notch firewall with antivirus protection licensed from award-winning Kaspersky. This free program can be a good choice if you don't want a full-scale security suite.

I am setting up a P-III for my daughter.  She already has an AOL account.  I purchased McAfee's latest AntiVirus program for installation on her computer.  However, I see that AOL offers free AntiVirus by McAfee.  Other than the fact that the AOL version is free, what, if any, are the differences between the 2?  A friend who has the AOL version told me that it is very disk intensive.  Does the AOL version include AOL related items which cause it to be more taxing on the computer's CPU?

Answer:Difference-McAfee Antivirus & AOL AntiVirus

I'm not too well educated on AOL and its services, but where I come from, whenever an ISP offers a virus scanner its usually a farce and only good for scanning E-mail. Have you got a link for me so I can have a look-see? By the way, I'd use AVG Free instead of Mcafee. It's free, yet better..

First, thank you for your reading.
I want to ask you about the better setting for building secure PC on Windows 10 as a consumer.

I am using Bitdefender Total Security 2017 as the main anti-malware software and firewall software on my PC. It looks good.

But at sometimes, Bitdefender is heavy a little, especially when updating signatures.
And booting time of my PC is long. Updating time at start up Windows is also long. I think it.

So I seaching another security softwares for my PC, and I find some softwares which I guess that it is good for using PC. The soft is Avast Free 2016, and Microsoft EMET or Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit Free Edition.

~Q.1~
Which is better, Avast Free 2016 or Bitdefender Security 2017. I will use EMET or MBAE for covering protection of vulnerability when I use Avast Free.

~Q.2~
What is Bitdefender and Avast Free regarded as security software for Windows 10 Consumers?
Which software do many people regard as a good solution?
I heard that Bitdefender is getting very high level score in many tests, but it is heavy for many PC.
And I aloso heard that Latest Avast Free gives security enough for many consumers, but sometimes do false detection, and it may be serious for OS at sometimes.
Please teach me about above things. I guess my English is not well, but I will read all replies from everyone. If I will be late replyng you. excuse me.

Thank you!

Good evening everyone. Thanks for your access to this thread. I hope you to read and answer for this question.

I want to ask everyone that which software should I use for keeping security of my PC.

Now I am using Bitdefender Total Security 2017 as main anti-malware soft on my main desktop PC.
And also I was using F-secure SAFE as anti-malware soft on my PC until last week.

Yesterday, I heard that new Avast Antivirus 2017 was released, and new Avast Free is including behaviour scanning system.

I am having trouble deciding which software should I use as anti-malware soft.
Please tell me about your recommend.

I think that...

?Protection features
Better : Bitdefender 2017 > F-secure SAFE > Avast Free 2017

?Performance and speed
Lighter : Avast Free 2017 > F-secure SAFE > Bitdefender 2017

?the risk of false positive trouble
Bigger risk : F-secure SAFE > Avast Free 2017 > Bitdefender 2017

?SSL (HTTPS) Scanning is enable without fake SSL certificate to browser
Unnecessary fake certificate : Avast Free, F-secure
Need fake certificate : Bitdefender Total

F-secure SAFE is the very nice solution as protection from malwares and keeping speedy PC. But it is having big risk of false positive ratings; especially the website blocking is not good with many many false positive ratings. And, sometimes slow down my PC.

Bitdefender Total Security 2017 is the best solution as protection from malwares. This software is providing users very nice anti-malware solu... Read more

Answer:Avast Free 2017 vs F-secure SAFE vs Bitdefender Total Security 2017

Quick question, why Bitdefender Total Protection? Do you need ALL those additional features, or looking for an Antivirus only, because there are Bitdefender Antivirus Plus and Free versions.

What about other protection software like Emsisoft Anti-Malware/Internet Security or ESET Nod32 Antivirus/Internet Security?

I really hope someone can help me. I just put Mcafee Antivirus Plus on my laptop about 2 weeks ago. It had been working fine up til 3 days ago real time protection would not turn on, so I contacted Mcafee and they told me to reinstall it. I reinstall it then it does not want to run any scans. I am so frustrated, I have been dealing with Mcafee for 2 days now and have talked to 2 different tier 2 guys. The first guy said something in my windows 32 system was corrupted, said he fixed it and for me to reinstall again but still didnt work. Second guy said that I had to many HP errors which was causing Mcafee not to work properly, told me to contact HP to get it fixed then try to run a scan. So I went ahead and uninstalled Mcafee and put another virus protection on and guess what it is working fine. If anyone has had any issues with Mcafee or knows what might be the problem, please let me know.

Answer:Mcafee Antivirus will not run scans

In my opinion (and in the opinion of MANY others) McAfee products (and their "support) are the worst in the business. Period. I always suggest replacing their product with virtually ANY other anti virus utility.

I recently purchased a new computer that came with a 4 year subscription to McAfee Plus. I have had McAfee in the past, an older version, and did not like it. But since this is free I was thinking I should try it again. Does anybody have this installed on their computer and can give me any comments about it?

Thank you

Answer:How i can UNISTALL Mcafee Antivirus

This is the HJT log help forum. Your query would be better served in the Generall Security forum. I'm moving this thread there.

Since you have mistakenly removed McAfee's folder from Program Files, I would recommend that you re-install it & then do a proper uninstall from add/remove programs.

If that fails, please contact McAfee directly

Hi,

A friend's pc initially had McAfee Anti-Virus running on Windows ME. He then upgraded his OS to Windows XP.

His McAfee only runs on ME and not XP. Since the upgrade, he receives a message at start up that his installed McAfee is not supported with his XP OS. McAfee can't be un-installed or removed in Add/Remove Programs, because this version of McAfee isn't supported in XP.

Is there a way to remove McAfee (or any other unsupported software) without removing XP? There have been additional software upgrades and installations for XP that would have to be re-installed if XP is removed.

Thanks.

Answer:McAfee Antivirus Removal??

Just try to uninstall through Add/Remove, and see, if it'll give you any problems. After uninstall, restart your computer, and watch for any error messages.

Can anyone be of help ? I have recently updated ( ie paid for ) DAT file updates from the McAfee site.I think I`ve got a wee problem. The DAT updates refers to Vers 10 of VirusScan. I am not too sure exactly wot ver I have. My Laptop ( where I have the issue ) came with Security Center installed. It was purchased June 2004.My desktop has a version of Virus scan that I purchased Mar 2006. Opening Sec Center on laptop and looking at "about Virusscan" reveals the following info-Build 10.0.27Eng 5100DAT 4912 ( DAT not current as sub expired )The info on Desktop reveals the same ( DAT file a few versions on obviously )However the above also has a version field ie complete info for D/Top is -Version 10Build 10.0.27Eng 5100DAT 4914Question - altho slight diff. in format of info displayed, is the Laptop VirusScan version 10 ?

Answer:McAfee AntiVirus - wee query

They both seem to be Version 10 - with the virus definitions (DAT) being out of date on the lappie.

Hi all:

A friend of mine with RoadRunner was told this morning that they need to uninstall their McAfee anti virus as it conflicts with RR and MS Outlook password retention. Sounds like a bale of bull to me, as they were pushing their Zone Alarm on them. I'm just curious, has anyone ever run across this problem or was the tech feeding them a line just to push thier own AV software? Also, any problems with RR and Norton Internet Security Suite?

Thanks for any help/advice you can give me.

I am using McAfee complimentary services, factory installed by DELL
An IT Guy at my college (Pima Community College0 said that Norton is better than McAfee.

McAfee has not been a pleasure. They demand outrageous costs for HELP. A virus got in and rewrote McAfee Antivirus program, the service could not detect it and did not respond to my email to them regarding the problem.

Now I am shopping around, looking at Norton. It needs cookies enabled, fine if its just them:

You can make your purchase and then set cookies off again in your browser. If you already allow cookies, there may be a problem that can be corrected by deleting the cookie file. 0SC22

Fine, I did Tools>Privacy>Edit
and entered the URL for every page I visited.

I went McAfee, Privacy Service> Configure Privacy Service> Allow List:
I entered the URLs

Still, the Norton website reports the same?

What do I need to do, so that I can even view my options for purchasing a Norton utility?

even tried disabling everything that McAfee controls, except the firewall.

I looked through the forum, but I can't find if McAfee Cloud Free AV is out of beta now? I would like to try it, but I also don't know if it's worth it, even if it is no longer beta. Thanks .

https://home.mcafee.com/Secure/CloudAV/CloudAVHome.aspx

Answer:McAfee Cloud Antivirus - Have you tried it?

Installed it, it uses ~10-15 MB ram.

Big downside, you can't add to exception if something is detected, files are detected on access (that's really bad because of the security risk).

Hello

In October 2004 I purchased a new Dell PC which came complete with Windows WP (home edition) and McAfee antivirus and firewall.

In venturing on the net where one shouldn't go I have picked up a trojan called Exploit-ByteVerify . This trojan is in two files but McAfee can't clean, delete or quarantine it.

What is this trojan, and how can I get rid of it?

Thanks in advance.

Tony

Answer:McAfee antivirus - trojans

Hi Tony

Firstly I don't reccommned using Macafee at all. I'ves used it before, as well as Norton, PC Cillan and various other virus scanners and I find that (and studies have shown) free virus scanners are sometimes even better than the subscription programs. I, Personally use a combination of:
AVG Antivirus
Spybot S&D
Ad-Aware SE Personal

With these three programs coupled together, I have never had any trouble with removing viruses and spyware. In terms of Macafee, last month I visited my parents house, they had a subscription version of Macafee. I downloaded AVG antivirus and immediately it picked up 9 viruses that Macafee failed to detect. I also do not have good experiences with macafee. I reccommend switching to AVG.

I have recentley installed McAfee anti virus on my Windows XP computer and since then my computer takes a lot longer to boot up. When i select a user account the computer hangs before loading up, when it does load up it comes up with a Net On Access Scanner error. I beleive that this is a rather common problem with McAfee but how do i fix it???

Answer:Problem with McAfee antivirus

There is an error similar that refers to NT On Acccess Scanner, (NT, not Net).

There is info on this on the McAfee Help site. Have you checked that out?
http://ts.mcafeehelp.com/default.asp?siteID=1&cnrcheck=done&resolution=1024x768

Choose the drop down box on the left and then Error Messages.

It always pays to check the vendor sites as a first call.

Hi,

My friend's computer came with McAfee Antivirus preinstalled. On my computer, I found that McAfee seemed to slow down the computer quite a bit, and I got rid of it in favor of Microsoft Security Essentials. As I recall, someone on this forum told me that I needed to download and run a utility to completely remove McAfee, since Windows Uninstall alone would not do the whole job. Is there a similar utility for Windows 8 that I should use to help in deleting McAfee from my friend's computer and if so, where can I get a copy?

Thanks,

I recently upgraded my McAfee anti-virus software to the 2007 version and it's significantly slowed my computer down. McAfee does a full scan almost every time I turn my computer on, if not every time and it takes hours to complete the scan. I have a Dell laptop that is 3 or 4 years old. It takes forever for my internet to load (I have cable internet) and it slows down other applications as well, such as printing documents. I've read in other forums that its not uncommon for McAfee to slow down computers and the most common suggestion is to un-install it and try AVG, but I just paid for another year of McAfee (prior to upgrading to the new version), so I'd rather not scrap it and waste that money. Does anyone have any suggestions to help speed up my computer's performance? This version has real time scanning, as well as weekly scheduled scanning. Will disabling real time scanning help? I tried that, but when I disabled it, McAfee said my computer wasn't protected, so I immediately enabled it again. We only use the computer for limited internet use and don't download much, if anything. Is there anyway I can change the settings on McAfee to help speed up my computer and limit the intrusiveness of McAfee? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Mcafee Antivirus Is Slowing Down My Computer

I don't use McAfee, but there should be some way, in the options, to prevent it from running a scan, every time you turn your computer on.You do not want to disable real time scanning. This is what monitors your computer, at all times, for any malicious programs that may try to sneak in.

After the attack from AV 2010 my McAfee does not run in real time scan mode anymore. I manually try to change to real time but it immediately switches off.

Also I cannot connect to the internet any longer. A call to Dell walked me through some trouble shooting steps that suggest the hardware is fine, but the software may be preventing access to internet.

Has anyone else had this problem with McAfee? Any suggestions on how to fix it? Should I just scrap McAfee (and my subscription money) and install something like AVG etc?

Cheers

Hello,

A co-worker had some malware activity on his computer. I ran scans, and found a Java exploit using MS Security Essentials, and a TDSS rootkit was found in SUPERAntispyware. I removed those, and walked through the rest of the steps of the MajorGeeks Malware Removal Guide. When I ran ComboFix, though, I got a warning saying that McAfee Antivirus was running, and I needed to disable it before continuing. But McAfee is not installed on this computer. I checked the Add/Remove Software list, and it wasn't there, I checked the Remove Software list in CCleaner, and it wasn't there. I looked in the program files folder, and there was a McAfee folder, but it was empty. I looked at the running processes and the startup items, and it wasn't there.

So I went ahead and ran ComboFix (it also wouldn't install the Windows Recovery Console), and continued with the Malware Removal guide steps. After completing, I went into Safe Mode and ran ComboFix there, and it again told me that McAfee Antivirus was running.

Is this something I need to worry about? Is it possible that something is masquerading as McAfee? Or that it was uninstalled a while ago, but some vestiges are still running?

Thanks for your help. I have included the log files from the scans that I ran.

Hoping to find someone that has excellent removal tutorial or link to an excellent tutorial. In that, ALL remnants are removed of McAfee Antivirus Plus.

The Unwanted McAfee Antivirus Plus came on my new laptop: Lenovo Ideapad Y570, i7 2670QM, 6G RAM, Windows 7 Home Premium.

McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool 6.0.152.0 states, "If your McAfee products were preinstalled by the manufacturer of your computer, ensure that you activate your McAfee subscription before uninstalling. Reinstalling from a CD or download only installs your McAfee consumer applications, but might not recover your paid subscription term information".

I am not sure why they require you to activate it before removing it. Sounds suspicious to me.

Nonetheless, I was hoping someone knew how to get rid of all of it. Thanks!

Answer:COMPLETE! REMOVAL Of McAfee Antivirus Plus

My newest computer and netbook came with similar trialware/crapware.

To remove I grab removal tools from McAfee or Norton (both are notorious for being foisted on new owners) but I do not activate anything nor do I use those tools first.

I use Revo Uninstaller http://majorgeeks.com/Revo_Uninstaller_d5706.html
then I reboot and use the removal tool from the software company. Usually I get a message that the tool can't find anything, which simply tells me Revo has done its job.

If a security program has been installed, then I use AppRemover instead of Revo to uninstall it. http://majorgeeks.com/AppRemover_d6090.html

If you did accidentally activate it, use AppRemover followed by the McAfee tool.

Is there a way to turn off completely my McAfee Internet Security Suite 9 which includes Viruscan, Firewall & Privacy Service- but not uninstall it? I want to install AVG free antivirus and Ewido ZoneAlarm firewall to test them out. I tried disabling all the McAfee components I could find via its configure menu (which is terribly laid out and confusing to navigate thru btw) and the McAfee "M" shortcut icon was still on the system tray next to the clock. Then I installed both AVG and ZoneAlarm but there seemed to be some conflicts going on apparently between whatever McAfee stuff was still enabled and the AVG & ZoneAlarm programs- including my Firefox browser not being allowed internet access so I gave up and uninstalled the new products and reenabled the McAfee ones.

I knew you couldn't have two antivirus or firewall programs running at the same time due to conflicts but thought if maybe one was somehow disabled you could run the other. Apparently not, obviously some of the McAfee programs/processes were still running in the background. I wonder if by removing McAfee components from the startup folder so they wouldn't start when my computer does that would have the same effect as uninstalling it from my system, temporarily? It would be a huge hassle to have to uninstall everything McAfee and then have to download it all again. Well anyway if anyone has any ideas about all this I'd sure appreciate hearing from you, thanks!

I am looking for an antivirus for Windows XP because I am tired of all that **** that tries to infect my PC. So far I looked into Kaspersky Antivirus and McAfee Virus Scan. Which one is better or should I pick something entirely different?

Answer:Antivirus Recommendations? (Kaspersky vs. McAfee)

AVG or AntiVir. Both are free and work great.

I'm planning on switching my elderly friends computer from mcafee antivirus to norton is there any challages I should
know about? I'm also adding Norton utilities.

Answer:switching from mcafee to norton antivirus

Yea, depending on the version of McAfee, you may have a nightmare on your hands removing it from the PC. I believe it's the 4.0 and prior versions that don't cleanly uninstall but I could be wrong. You'll basically have to run the uninstall and then clean up the rest manually. I highly suggest you run the uninstall from SafeMode.

I have Windows Vista, and am trying to download the McAfee Antivirus Plus 2011 software. I get this message: McAfee Integrated Security Platform Installer has stopped working A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

There is a box which says Close Program I am never notified about a solution. Please help!

Answer:Solved: McAfee Antivirus Plus 2011

We can address the problem, but I think most people here will advise you not to use McAfee.

I urge you to download and install one of the FREE antiviruses below (in order of personal preference).
Microsoft Security Essentials
Avast! Antivirus
AVG
