I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I saw that the new 2017 kaby lake spectre x360 was compatible with n-trig pens so I bought the surface pen (the one that comes with the new surface pro 4/surface book), I connected the pen via bluetooth however it wont write, the eraser button works and it lauches one note however it doesn't ink, amI missing any drivers? Why isn't it working?

No one can explain why, only NOT compatible. (a) I've tested HP stylus on MS Surface and it won't work.(b) I've tested HP stylus (same as above) on my loan HP Spectre x360 15" and it won't work I believe at this stage, no universal standard otherwise Belkin, Logitech .... would make heaps of them. I just heard info that HP has refresh the Spectre x360 13 at CES 2017 but their is no more info about the refresh spectre x360 13. So, I want to know what's new in the refresh model and when it is coming out to stores?
I plain to purchase the spectre x360 13 but after I heard that hp his update the spectre x360 13 so my plain change to wait for newer model. so I just want to know is it better to wait for refresh model or purchase current model?

If you have one of the new 2017 HP Spectre x360 with the stylus, either model number 13-AC013DX or 13-AC023DX or 15-BL012DX.....Have you experienced any battery drain when the device turned OFF completely?This was a known issue for the 2015 Spectre x360 and the late 2016 Spectre x360. It would drain about 1% every 2 hours when turned OFF. I had a late 2016 Spectre x360 that had that problem and I returned it because of that problem.There is a lot of topics about other people having the same problem. But its only for the 2015 and 2016 Spectre x360 models. I have not seen any one with a 2017 stylus model report it on here yet. So I wanted to check if anyone that has 1 of these experienced this?

I was lucky enough to buy one of the new Spectre X360 Ready to Ship model early, but the day after receiving it the Laptop started shutting off when lifted from the left side. It does not shut down when lifted with 2 hands or from the right side. Is also does not shut down when in the screen is rotated to put it in tablet mode. Only when held by left side only when screen is in normal laptop postion. Any thoughts. It's only 5 days old should I return it. Also it is hard to start back up. Need to due a hard reboot by holding power button in for 1 minute w/o AC adapter attached. Does it with and without AC adapter attached.

I need a definitive answer. Everywhere on the internet I have searched I haven't gotten one, is the new 2017 kaby lake model of the HP spectre x360 AC013DX, i7-5500 CPU compatible with an active stylus. If so is it compatible with the dell 750 AAGN active stylus? I have checked the compatibilty list however it says that it isn't compatible however I have seen useres reporting that it comes with a stylus and ebay sellers, multiple of them, saying that it is compatible with a stylus and one that even comes with one. HP has done a terrible job of the calirty of styluses and it has taken me over a month to try and get an answer but I haven't so I ask on here now. Somebody please clear this up for me.

Hi I've been looking for an extra spare charger for the HP Spectre x360 15in 2017 model.I travel between the US and Europe (mainland [Belgium]) a lot and would like a charger with EU plug so I don't need to work with extra convertors and whatnot. I've looked at the repair site but they only seem to show US plug models?Only way in Belgium to get any info is to contact a retailer. I've contacted a few but they don't seem to know either. If not for sale through HP, could a separate cable from power brick to plug work? So 3 point clover to EU type plug. I assume power is drawn through the brick so the cable itself shouldn't matter much. Thanks in advance!

The display in the 2016 model of the HP Spectre x360 15 4K turned out not to be as advertised, and it is possible that they are using the same display in the new model. The 2016 HP Spectre x360 15 display used the RG/BW Pentile matrix to more or less "cheat" the ability to advertise as 4K UHD 3840x2160, without actually providing the full detail of the resolution. HP Spectre x360 15 false-4K demonstration HP Spectre x360 13 true-QHD demonstration (for comparison, 13.3" model's high res display is true) The new one could be using a completely different display, but given HP's track record with pentile I would say it is better to wait for reviews in order to confirm that. I will update this post or make a follow-up post once I am able to confirm the type of display used in this laptop.

Hi everyone, I would like to replace the built-in 1TB SSD in my Spectre x360 with a 2TB one (namely, Samsung MZ V6E2 S24 A450BW SSD 960 Evo Nvme) Two questions: 1. Is this possible at all? I mean, is the 2TB compatible with the M.2 slot inside my laptop?2. Is this something I can do myself without losing warranty? Here is the Manual: Service Manual Yes it absolutely will support the 2 TB NVME M.2. (You must have robbed a bank to buy one).  The warranty will be fine as long as you cause no damage in the process. Purchased Spectre 15 X360 (2017 model) a few days. Machine does not shut down or sleep. within seconds of shut down or sleep, starts up again. On Shutdown : restarts within seconds.On Sleep : comes back to login screen. Closing the lid doesnt help either.  Only way to shut the PC is by hard shutdown by pressing the power button for a few seconds. talked to customer support for couple of days without any luck.Tried system restore, all possible power options, updated windows / hp packs. Purchased the system in US and since I am out of the country, unable to return. Would like to know if anyone else have faced similar problem with this laptop. Being a new model that started shipping last week, there will be only a few out there.

 Hello I recently bought the HP spectre x360 13-ac003na (in the UK) and love it. I would like to buy an extra charger for it and maybe a replacement for the stylus that came with it as I am bound to lose it at some point.  Charger:My model is apparently TPN-DA07 and says to replace with spare 860210-850 (see photo)I found this on the HP website: http://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=V5Y26AA&opt=ABU&sel=ACC However this does not look identical and does not list the spectre x360 as a compatible product. Hello All, There was one similar thread, but it seemed to be closed. When the power is plugged in on this new machine (7th Gen CPU / etc., but not the new model with the pen), there is a very faint static noise (possibly to the speakers). With the power disconnected it is not audible. Anyone else hear this?  FYI, it can be heard when the system is in sleep - not just when it is on.  It does not sound like "coil whine" - it could be bad grounding or something like that. R

Hello. I've been having trackpad issues on my new 2017 Spectre x360 13-ac0xx unit for about two weeks now. Firstly, unlike other techies, I appreciate that the trackpad uses custom Synaptics drivers rather than Microsoft's standard precision touchpads. I've owned both a Surface Pro 4 (w/ type cover) and a Dell XPS 13, which I returned due to their horribly slow and janky Precision touchpads. And although HP has horrible quality control (this is my third Spectre x360 unit, which I recieved 2 weeks ago), I would really like this trackpad issue to be resolved. Ever since I have had the machine, the trackpad has been showing some erratic behavior (which I will describe below). PLEASE NOTE: this is profoundly irritating and I have been trying to troubleshoot this myself for the past few weeks. The previous two Spectre x360 units (bought from Best Buy) did not have this problem, but this third machine (ordered from HP.com) does. There seem to be 3 "separate" problems with the touchpad. The first is that the trackpad sometimes locks up and refuses to track my finger when I'm touching it. The cursor moves on screen only when I fully click-and-drag on the trackpad surface, but otherwise doesn't work. Got my Spectre X360 15.6 2017 edition few days ago and immediately notice this very annoying issue. In short, the touch function is disabled for about 2 seconds after using the pen, which means everytime when you finish writing something with the pen, you have to wait for about 2 seconds before the touch screen responds to your finger input.  This is really annoying, it slows down my workflow dramatically. And I have never experienced this kind of issue before on any other devices using NTrig digitizer, and I have used a lot NTrig devices (Fujistu 550, HTC Flyer, Sony Vaio Duos, Vaio Flips, Microsoft Surfaces). But I did noticed similar issues on some Wacom AES devices like the Thinkpad Yoga 14. I do remember HP mentioned somewhere that the pen uses Universal Windows Pen protocol, Is this part of the new protocol? Anyway, please please please, HP! Fix this problem and release a firmware update ASAP, I really like the Spectre X360, You guys did a good job in general, but this is a deal breaker, I would hate to send it back.

Just bought the new 4k 13 inch spectre x360. So far it has been great, except that I am getting nowhere near the advertised battery life. I have already researched these forums, and read the tips located here - http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=c00596784 - and here (translated from Spanish to English) - http://h30467.www3.hp.com/t5/Consejos-de-Expertos-para-notebooks/Consejos-de-mantenimiento-de-Bater%... - and nothing has helped.  In just 2 hours of up time with the screen set to 50% or less, I reached 20% battery remaining. This was only with web browsing and some office processses such as email and Microsoft Word. Do I have a bad battery, or is the battery life overall just not as good (or even close to) advertised? The laptop is less than 30 days old.

I have the Spectre model X7V20UA#ABA and based on this answer bought an HP Active Pen.  I cannot get teh machine to acknowledge the pen in any way. I've followed what instructions I could find (basically have the pen near the computer when you turn the computer off and then back on) and it will nto use it in One Note.  Is this an incompatible device?

What's the difference between the HP Spectre x360 and the HP Envy x360? They both look the same.The only noticeable difference is that HP Spectre x360 has a Radiance Infinity display, while HP Envy x360 has an IPS display. Having the same specs, except for the display, why is the Spectre x360 more expensive than the Envy x360 ? Moreover, I thought that IPS is better than TN, which is my guess that is the technology used for the Radiance Infinity.

I just got this device in January when they first came out with the new remodel and I notice that on a solid surface that the screen shakes rather violently. Its also easy to push the screen back when tapping on the screen. Any one else notice this?

Just got the Spectre X360 15" - awesome computer.  I've owned many laptops over the years, but I've never been puzzled over exactly the best way to open a laptop! I've been lifting the front edge up off the table and using two hands to open it by jamming my thumbnails into the front notch and separating the lid from the bottom.  There's got to be an easier way! How do you open yours?Can you do it with one hand?

Hi!I just purchased the brand new x360, which I love.  My only issue is that the power cord doesn't stay into the USB C charging port, so any maneuvering or flipping the laptop, or other motions and gestures, loosens the contact and the laptop stops charging.Does anyone else have this issue?  Could this be an issue with the cord itself?  Feels as though when plugged in, there is still some wiggle room and it's certainly not snug.

Right from the initial boot-up, my brand new Spectre 360 15 (2017) has had problems with the touchscreen.  The screen is detecting 'ghost touches" when I am nowhere near it.  I have followed the suggestions from the online assistant, and tried to calibrate, but that has not solved the problem.  In fact, I was lucky to be able to get that far, since the false input detected by the machine is causing it to open and close things without my asking. I just dropped $2,000 on this, and love the concept.  Not impressed with my experience, and very nervous about what this means going forward.  Is this model fundamentally flawed?  Did I get a lemon?  And why can't I call someone to ask for help?

Brand new Spectre X360.  Battery drains 0.8% per  hour while Spectre is shutdown.  There is ZERO battery drain of spouse's Surface notebook.  I have disabled fast start up.  USB ports are not in use.  This is a serious problem as I leave my notebook off for several days and could drain to zero possibly damaging battery.

Upon opening the notebook on my desk, a series of cracks surfaced on the upper-left bezel of the screen, and extended across the screen. I keep my notebook for the most part on my desk, and when I travel, I put in the HP leather case, and in a well-paded bag. I've owned this notebook since August last year, and it has performed excellently besides the occaisonal loud fan noise and overheat.  I talked with a helpful HP Customer Support Rep, and I was told that if I were to send in my notebook, and screen damage will be presumed inflicted by the customer. I have also been in contact with the HP Executive board, but their reply did not grant me any help. I would like to know if I can send in my notebook for a proper examination, or if I can speak with a case manager on this issue. I really do not want to file a complaint to the BBB, but I feel that will be necessary if the material defect is to be assumed a damage on my part. Thank you in advance. I will include pictures of my display, as well as pictures of the siding to prove the lack of physical/blunt damage.

Question: HP Spectre x360

Hi, I have an HP Spectre x360 that is a year and 5 months old. I was running it off the battery when suddenly a whole lot of smoke started coming from underneath the notebook and a smell of burnt plastic filled the air. Reading the forum I found that this is not something new to these HP Spectre x360 notebooks. Its it really possibile that HP have not activated a support program for who owns such an expensive notebook. My notebook is out of warrenty but I honestly think it was a close call, i was working on a wooden table when it started burning. Now I have a 1250 euro paper weight. I did try to contact support and was immediatly cut off once i gave them my serial number, or offered to pay for support. Will paying 30 euros actually achieve something, ie will they attempt a repair or will it be 30 euros just to be told over the phone that its something that simply cannot be repaired. Thanks

Hello, Last winter purchased a convertible lenovo laptop. The first one had faulty hinges, I had it replaced on the same day I brought it in and the second one had faulty hinges and a faulty touchpad. So, I decided to ditch the cheaper computers and splurged on a HP spectre x360 from Best Buy. I live 200 kilometres away from large retail stores like this so getting back and forth is quite difficult, Staples was very understanding about the Lenovo laptops, however Best Buy told me there was nothing I could do when I described the problems I was having with my brand new HP. Several months went by and I avoided using the computer as much as possible in order to avoid facing the mistake I made in purchasing it. Eventually, my old computer became completely obsolete and I had no choice but use this HP.  My problems were not limited in any way. They ranged from an extremely annoying touchpad that sounded loose and made strange noises, the fact that the screen was closing on an odd angle, and the fact the the screen could barely stay open. A slight touch or even shifting the laptop would cause the screen to move. I could forgive these flaws if I had abused this computer or if it had received heavy usage, however I barely even turned the thing on. The 1-minute hold of the power switch worked for me, but it is darn hard to do because of the somewhat inconvenient power switch position - and if you waver for a moment then the 60 seconds starts again. I found it easiest to turn the 360 on its side on a table and then it is easier to hold the switch down for the full minute uninterrupted. This for me only points out the importance for manufacturers to provide a HARD RESET capability through an unfolded paperclip or the like. C'mon guys, give us what we need to maintain our products!

Question: Spectre x360

Hi, my spectre x360 just out of warranty and will no longer charge the battery! Charger checked and working. When plugged into laptop, symbol appears to show connection but then states not charging. Battery nearly flat now but diagnostics state batter condition ok. Would appreciate any ideas to resolve please but I am not considered computer literate just general working knowledge!

All but one exhibited very loose trackpads (even very light taps will physically move the trackpad down and have an annoying loose click sound when taking your finger off of it). The one with an okay trackpad had USB-C issues. The trackpad -- arguable THE most important part of a laptop -- now feels like garbage. Hell, there are $200 Windows laptops and Chromebooks that have better trackpads than this $1,200 thing.It's extremely frustrating and disappointing. I REALLY wanted for the Spectre x360 to be my laptop (especially considering there's no other 2-in-1 out there that looks this good and is priced as nicely). Looks like the Lenovo Yoga 720 is next on my list. Just wish it had IR cameras for facial logins.

I'm looking for a 13-inch laptop for myself and have narrowed it down to these two models. Need your help in choosing :)
I'm thinking about such config for both: i7-7560U + Iris Plus Graphics 640 + 16GB RAM + 512GB SSD. As for the screen, I'm still on the fence about it, not sure if I want the best possible res (QHD for Dell, 4K for HP) or the best battery life by going FullHD. Can you guys share your battery life experience with the best screens for these? I'm going to use it primarily for browsing / office work / coding (VS and VS Code) / light photo editing (Lightroom, Photoshop)
For the x360, I like Windows Hello camera (and webcam at the top ) and build quality. And it's a bit cheaper.
For the XPS 13, it's battery life and better port selection

Just finished setting up my second Spectre x360 15t. The first one was a driver and screen flickering mess. As I'm finishing putting it through it's paces by running audio with a few tunes through Spotify and then over to Netflix to check dialogue, I've become aware that the fan has been running for some time. When I picked it up to feel the underside I was quite dismayed to feel how hot this thing was. Not cozy up to the fire hot but call the fire department hot. It was on a Xpad which was starting to get a bit toasty itself. No way this could ever sit directly on my lap. I know this is an ultrabook. I know i7 processors run warm under load but this fella gets HOT. I'm coming off a Spectre 13t with an i5 which is just as tight a unit as this one, but it never reached this kind of hot. I'm humorously concerned if I can put this on my desk while under heavy load without melting the finish off. Is anyone else experiencing similar circumstances? I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

Question: HP Spectre x360

New owner of HP Spectre x360 - 13-4003dx here. I want to ask if the bottom of the laptop, the area above the fan openings where the FCC info/text lies, is supposed to creak when I press it slightly. I first heard this noise when I took my laptop out of the sleeve and held that area. At first I thought it was just rubbing against the sleeve, but after further examination, that is not the case. If this occurs with other models of the Spectre, it is a bad build quality, I am not sure which component is under there, but I want to know if the creaking noise is normal with only a slight press along the text area. Thanks.

Get-SpeculationControl seems to check for Meltdown (CVE-2017-5754) and only part of Spectre (CVE-207-5715) - not CVE-2017-5753. Any insight into how to check for this other part of the Spectre vulnerability? Or why it isn't addressed by this check? Are the fixes redundant?

The main goal of this PowerShell script, is not to test if your CPU is vulnerable or to test if the patches have been installed. The main goal is to check if the mitigations are active.
 
The mitigations for CVE-2017-5754 and CVE-2017-5715 are configurable (can be enabled or disabled via registry: https://support.microsoft.com/en-za/help/4072698/windows-server-guidance-to-protect-against-the-speculative-execution), and mitigating CVE-2017-5715 requires a microcode update.
 
The mitigation for CVE-2017-5753 is not configurable, and does not require a microcode update.
 
If the Windows patch for Meltdown/Spectre has been installed on your machine, then mitigation for CVE-2017-5753 is active.

Hi all, I've had my laptop for around 1.5yrs now but it recently stopped working and does not switch on. Pressing the power button causes the caps lock light to flash 5.3 (and the F5 keyboard light stays on constantly). After a few minutes, fan whirring noises can be heard but the screen remains black. I've followed all of the offered the troubleshooting steps (hard reset; attaching to external monitor.. etc.) but to no avail. 6 months over warranty and I'm incredibly worried and frustrated given the prevalence of similar issues with the Spectre x360 across the forum and given this was my first laptop purchase after much scrimping and saving. Was anticipating using this for at least 3 years and the experience has made me wary of what I believed to be a reputable and trustworthy brand. Echoing the thoughts of others with similar problems, I'm hoping for some resolution to this detrimental problem that does not push the price of purchase given that this appears to be a problem across the product!

I have an HP Spectre x360 Convertible with Product Number K8P19LA#ABM. I want to use it as a drawing and sketching tool. I have read several reviews from other x360 owners and decided that my best option was to buy a Dell Active Pen PN556W to use. Similar qualities as the HP Active Pen (which are not sold on my country) but with better reviews. I have had no opportunity to use my pen, as it is not recognized in any way by the screen.I have also installed the Anniversary edition of Windows 10 with better Pen Support and it still doesn't recognizes my pen. My configuration is:Windows 10 ProPen and Touch Support with 10 Touch Points

Greetings, I just bought the HP spectre x360 with the i7 processor, and I've tried over 100 times to register a right click on the trackpad and it has failed to do every single time. I have read several articles complaning about the width being the problem to the right click, but mine has failed to register. period. I went into the control panel to try to disable it then enable once again in hopes to it working, but nothing has changed. I have only been able to register a "right click" by holding down on the touchscreen which is fairly inconvienent. I would like to see this problem fixed because I do enjoy everything else about this laptop, but that is a major flaw for me. Thank you.

My Spectre X360 is becoming extremely warm in the bottom upper left. It is to warm to have on my lap and I am worried about the computer becoming too hot. The laptop was bought only a month ago and I have yet to use it for any extensive purpose. Is this just a problem with this model or just mine? And is there anyway to fix this or will I have to buy an external fan?

Hello, I know this is an obscure topic but I noticed two scratches on the bezel (The polished metal) of my Hp Spectre X360.  To orient you, the scratches are not to far from the right side windows button and volume rocker.  The scratches are not deep due to not feeling an indent when I run my nail across them.  Also you can only see them in the most direct light.  Nevertheless they bother me.  Does anyone have any solutions as to how to remove those scratches at all?  I tried an extra fine scotch brite pad but was unsuccessful.  Any ideas would be appreciated.  Thank you.

I have exactly the same problem. I have bought my "Hp Spectre x360 13 inch, i7, ram 16, Hard 512 solid" less than a month ago from Bestbuy in NJ. From my first use, I found that it gets so hot after less than half a hours which my leg feels burning. I still didn't install a heavy program or compilers and I am using this laptop only for surfing the internet or writing text in the Microsoft word. Please help me for this issue.

My Spectre was heating up during idle. I use RealTemp to monitor temperature and set alarm for 180F. It was hard to catch the culprit, because it stopped as soon as I moved the mouse or keyboard to check.  I finally used Process Monitor to track CPU during idle and discovered that it was Norton 360 which does aggressive system checking during idle. I like Norton and the way it checks and rates download executable files. Setting lower priority for Norton doesn't do anything and I don't really want to do that anyway. And I don't want to inhibit the system checking. So, now I leave my Spectre on my homemade vacuum pad during idle to solve that problem. *sigh* I need a way to throttle back aggressive programs as a function of temperature.

Anybody knows if it's possible replace the laptop's SSD with another M.2 but pcie? I have read in some forum on internet that's possible but i'm not sure because i bought a Samsung SM951 e i tried to mount but the notebook does not see it!!!!The laptop's M.2 connector is it compatible with pcie? Can i replace my SSD with one pcie?I updated BIOS to  rev F.25 but nothing. Can you identify where you tried to put the mSSD by reference to the Manual here: Manual See p. 28. It uses M.2 SATA drives and if the drive you installed is a PCIe type it will not be recognized. AHCI type drives only as far as I can see. I have a Spectre x360 notebook that is soon two years old. It hasn't been used a lot, but recently I have taken it into active use again. I'm experiencing unexpected shutdowns, and it seems to be running hot. You should be able to hear the fan running and if it's hot and the fan is not running, you should turn it off and get it serviced. You don't want to fry the cpu.

I just got a new Spectre x360 13 (13-w023dx) and I am having the exact same buzzing noise as described in the video. This is crazy and ridiculous for a supposedly top of the line laptop. Is HP monitoring this thread and is there a proper fix ?

Hello, I just picked up a refurbished HP Spectre X360, and I have a question about the fan noise. My fan makes a whistling sound when it picks up speed.  It's normally not on, and only cranks under heavy load, but there's definitely a whistle.  I'm just wondering if this is normal or not.  I have the opportunity to return this unit if it's not normal, but so far it works really well.  I have no problem with "whooshing" or air blowing, but the whistle kind of stinks to hear. Any thoughts?

I need to upgrade ssd to 512gb, have seen posts on other variants but dont know how important the 4050na number is? Also most posts were about a year old and so i wondered if anyone had more uptodate experience? The Samsung seem to have many models, just paying more for faster read/write speeds but dont know how important this is and whether machine can support any or all of these speeds?

So my laptop just started turning off suddenly. I can start it up, log in, and then after about a 1 minute or so, it just shuts off (as if someone just pulled the battery out). No shutting down warning, nothing. Just goes black. I have even tried restarting it after logging in and it doesn't want to restart. When I try to restart, it just goes black and shuts off again. Same thing when I try to shut it down. Anyone have any ideas? Oh, one more thing. Charging light blinks when I have the charger plugged in. I have tried taking out charger and pressing power button down 15 seconds. After doing that, charging like stops blinking, but after a minute of so, it'll start blinking again. Any ideas?? Laptop was purchased about 6 months ago, but warranty is expired due to being a refurb.

Hi, just ordered the Spectre x360 after a lot of googling around about it's active pen support.  I haven't been able to find the official "HP Active Stylus" in my country (Norway), which I've read quite a bit of negativity about anyways, however I found one named "HP Pro Tablet Active Pen" (K8P73AA) which according to a reply by an HP employee in an older thread (http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Software-and-How-To-Questions/Spectre-x360-Active-Pen-Stylus-C...) is supposedly supported by the Synpatics digitizer in the x360. The official documentation however, has no mention of this. I've also read an overwhelming amount of feedback that a recent firmware update disabled the support for the Dell stylus which many apparently found success in, so this is another reason I am uncertain. Could this update have disabled the support for the other HP styluses as well? Before i go out and spend a lot of money on this pen I was wondering whether someone has tried the HP Pro Tablet Active Pen themselves on the x360, or whether any HP employee could confirm this compatibility. Hey guys! I bought my new ash silver HP spectre x360 13" recently and Iīve discovered som faults in the production. I am now wondering if anyone else noticed these faults and if I could/should exchange my example for a new proper one ( I do genuenly love it) Firstly, it is not balanced proberly when sitting on a flat surface. Iīve made a video showcasing it. Which can be seen below. A click noise is produced when using it for scrolling. This makes it virtually impossible to use silently while someone else is trying to sleep next to me.. Great laptop, put it through a lot of testing in my first weekend of owning it and I'm quite pleased overall. This issue has nothing to do with the laptop itself but rather the included sleeve, which I'm also pleased was included as other brands/models I checked out did not include a sleeve. However... it smells really awful.  I mean it's really an exceptionally terrible rubbery type odor.  And it's not as if it's only when I put my nose up to it or even handle it.  It can just be sitting a few feet away from me and I smell it.  I tried washing it by hand, figuring it's just an extreme example of factory chemicals or materials not being completely washed away before packaging.  This act may have reducded the smell by 20-25%, but the stench was still very noticeable so I put it through a wash in the washing machine.  Again, it's possible it's reduced the smell down to 50% of what it started as, but it's still pretty ridiculous how bad this thing smells. Has anyone had the same experience?  Have you had better luck in removing the smell?  I'm sure someone will suggest that it's free and maybe not worth the effort and therefore to just look into a different sleeve but I like it aside from the odor and would like to be able to keep it for some extra protection / padding even once I decide on a method for carrying the device around if possible.  But it will not be worth it if I can't get rid of the odor.

I recently bought a HP Spectre x360 13-w003ng and for security reasons in case of loss or theft I would like to encrypt the SSD with a password. Most premium devices have a HDD password option in the BIOS. Unfortunately, I couldn't find that option in the BIOS of this device. Does that mean it is not possible to set such a password on this particular notebook?

Question: Spectre x360 noise

So I just  bought myself a Spectre x360 (13 inch, 8gb ram, 256 gb ssd, i5- 7200) a few days ago. Now the problem is that it makes an annoying electric like buzzing noise all the time. Watching a youtube video, scrolling a website or moving the mouse over any website, app or anything like that triggers it really.  From the research I did I believe it's coal whine. I found a few other with similar problems. Hi All,I have a Spectre X360 (13-4014TU)  that runs the Intel i7-5500U , 256GB ADATA SSD, 8Gb RAM and Win 10-64. It is a great little unit and has become my main work horse for my business. As I am running out of Disk space, I wanted to upgrade the SSD to 512GB but I have noticed that Intel have launched a 540S Series 1tb M.2 drive for a little bit more than the cost of the Samsung 512gb  unit. However, I want to know if the upgrade will work before I invest the $ required. The two questions that I can't get an answer to are:1. The intel unit is double sided. Its thickness is 3.58mm  compared to the 2.32mm thickness for single sided SSD - WILL IT FIT in the X360 ssd gap? 2. Will the  BIOS of the x360 address the 1tb memory? The x360 has the F.32 BIOS running on the 802D 58.51 system board. Has anyone else experienced fitting a 1tb to an X360? Any recommendations? ThanksFrank

The Manual kind of casually says it will support PCIe (Aka NVME) M.2 drives but of the service parts listed in the manual all are M.2 SATA disks. This is the 512 gig: 801504-001  So that is a SATA B + M module and the Evo 960 M.2 looks like this:  See the difference in the gold leads that plug into the motherboard (keys)...Yours is a 5th gen Intel Core platform and most of the laptops that will run PCIe M.2 disks are 6th and 7th generation so I say you likely will not be able to use the Samsung 960 Evo.  Manual see p. 20 If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as SOlution" to help others find it.

I bought the HP Spectre x360 15" several months ago.  I never heard the fan come on even once until a few weeks ago.  I have done some updates from the HP site that were specific for my model Spectre.  There were so many that I couldn't even begin to guess which one did it, if any.  The fan comes on randomly, not dependent on what I have open from what I can tell.  I have it elevated on a rise with plenty of air flow underneath and have it plugged into the power cord when using.

Hello I would like to use an HP for my work laptop, howver it needs to have a TPM chip. Do any of the black/copper Spectre X360s have a TPM chip. Especially these models: 13-4116dx Or one of the new 13 models - although not happy 13s dont come in black only silver. HP Spectre x360 13-ac075nr (New Model) Thanks

Hello all,I seem to be having the same problem as all of you. Bought the spectre in Aug. 2015 right before heading to college. It worked fine for the last year and a half until tonight where I was working on homework, got up for less than 5 minutes, and came back to an unresponsive laptop. Can anyone catch me up on what is going on and how I should go about fixing this issue.Thanks,-Kenny

The latest Spectre x360 model has most of the specs I am looking for in a new laptop...  except the physical size!  A 15" laptop suits my needs better than 13" but the specs of the 15" model have not yet been updated.  When will a new 15" Spectre x360 model with a 7th generation/Kaby Lake i7 Intel processor be released?

Hi! My webcam also has a very very bad image quality! Does it have a cheap sensor? Please help me finding the right driver for it! Ive got the Spectre x360 15-ap006ng Cant find a special webcam driver.. :/

I have an HP Spectre x360 with a 2 year ADP coverage. I purchased the laptop in US... but I am currently employed and working in India. My screen has got damaged and needs to be replaced, but the local service center is unable to verify the ADP care pack details in India. I purchased this laptop after doing my research that the product is marketed in India and will be supported here. However, now the local tech support is saying that the Family name - pike1.0 not available in India and the laptop cannot be serviced even if the ADP is avaiable. As per the ADP contract, HP Support can courier the necessary parts to the local service center and my laptop can be serviced. How do i resolve this issue?

Hi, Yes, they say the true, many HP laptops asre localized that means HP local can only help you (a) Order part)s) from original country and repair it for you  or(b) You have to send machine back to the original country (in this case the US) for repair. Warranty or not, same rule. Please read (very similar to your case): ANSWER: You can call HP Customer Support or HP Authorized Support Providers for diagnostic purposes. If a hardware service is required, two alternatives can be offered: The part can be dispatched by HP Customer Support or the HP Authorized Support Partner within the border of the country where they are located. It is your responsibility to get the part from this location, move it to the PC, and to return the defective parts - when required - to the same location. Associated costs are your responsibility. The PC may be moved, under your responsibility and at your cost, to the closest country where HP has support presence, or any other country chosen by yourself (depending on the logistics network), in order to get access to the solution. I just bought an hp spectre x360 today and my webcam looks really really bad, I've watch reviews of the computer online and the videos using the webcam look way better than mine does, could there be something wrong with my computer? Is there something I can do regarding the settings?

My HP spectre x 360 was working fine a couple days ago. I was using it on battery power and got a note that battery power was low. I was finished for the night so I closed it up without plugging it in. The next day I tried to turn it on it wouldn't power up at all, even when plugged in. When I plug the AC adapter in, there is a steady white light that comes on next to the port. I have tried the troubleshooting tips attempting to do a hard reset and there is no response whatsoever. I am extremely upset to read that this is a common issue. I am two months past warranty, and the timing seems very odd. I am self-employed and cannot afford to be without this laptop, which I spent a lot of money on. What is my recourse?

Twice today, my laptop set idle and all of a sudden it started to open windows like someone was hacking the computer.  I turned off the wi-fi and it showed windows with scripts opening mainly on the left bottom corner of the screen.  I bought this laptop 4 days ago and I've not loaded much on it.  Has anyone had this problem?  When I turn it to tablet mode it stops.  I have videos of it if needed.

I purchased an HP Spectre 15 x360 in March 2016 and have been struggling with freezing/lock ups since then. I have tried updating all drivers but this hasn't fixed the problem. Almost daily, the screen freezes, the cursor shows a "busy" signal, and Windows does not recover. I have to do a full shutdown and restart, and lose all my work. I haven't been able to pinpoint what is causing this freezing. This has been a problem since the laptop was first received, so I am wondering if there is a hardware problem. Thanks for any help/ideas you can provide.
