Keyboard backlight on Lenovo Yoga 700

Question: Keyboard backlight on Lenovo Yoga 700

Is there any way to permanently set this to ON?I am tired of always having to turn it on and realize that I like it ON all the time. Any way to do this or a workaround since you dont have an option for it?

Preferred Solution: Keyboard backlight on Lenovo Yoga 700

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Keyboard backlight on Lenovo Yoga 700

I dont' have a 700, but my 900 and 910 (both Win 10) have that option. Lenovo Settings -> INPUT (keyboard & mouse...) -> backlight.

Hi all,  I have lost the automatic keyboard backlight setting on my X1 Yoga 20FQ. I now only have three options; off, low and high. This was after a clean install of Windows 10 x64. All known drivers have been installed from the Lenovo support pages. Searching previous forum posts suggest installing ThinkPad Settings Dependency however this has now been widthdrawn and replace by Lenovo System Interface Foundation which I have installed. anyone got any suggestions? Thanks inadvance.

Answer:yoga 2 11 - Keyboard backlight?

Hi there. Upon looking on the Yoga 2 11 user manual, located here: https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/lenovo_yoga_2_11_ug_english_win8.1.pdf ; I see that there is no backlit keyboard option. The manual doesn't tell us about how to turn on/off the backlit keyboard, making me think that this model doesn't have one. Also, I've looked up a review from LaptopMag, which also says that there is no backlit keyboard on this model.  Hope this helps

Hello, I just got a new Yoga 260.   I immediately upgraded to a Samsung SSD and have reinstalled my own Win10.  I've installed all of the official Lenovo drivers, including for Hotkey.  One thing I have noticed though is that the factory-installed OS, when using Fn-Spacebar to turn on the keyboard backlight, had 4 stops:Off, On Low, On High, and Auto This was new - I hadn't seen an auto keyboard backlight option on any ThinkPad before.  However, now that I have reinstalled my own OS and am using the downloaded version of the Hotkey driver, I only have the traditional 3 options to cycle through:Off, On Low, On High   -    Auto is missing. Does anyone know a version of the Hotkey driver, or maybe a regedit, that will restore the 4th "auto" keyboard backlight option?

Answer:Yoga 260 Auto Keyboard Backlight

On my Yoga 260 with factory-installed OS, I have the 4 stops when "Auto Keyboard Backlight" is enabled in the Lenovo Settings app, but I have only 3 stops when "Auto Keyboard Backlight" is disabled in that app.  If you didn't install the Lenovo Settings app after reinstalling your own OS (assuming it's still Windows?), then that's probably the answer - but I'm not sure about whether the auto stop can be enabled without installing that app, which many people would understandably want to avoid.

Hello, just yesterday I received my brand new Yoga 900-13ISK however after turning the keyboard backlight on I've noticed that there is some backlight coming through just 1 of the air vents where the hinge is, as per the picture attached. Is this normal for anyone else? I'm unsure if there's actually something broken/faulty within that specific air vent area or not...Appreciate any help or advice

Hi, I want the keyboard backlight on my Yoga 900 to default to "on".  Currently, the default is off. Every time the computer sleeps, hibernates, restarts, I have to manually turn the keyboard backlight on. It's annoying to have to manually turn it on over and over, particularly when the room is dark. I want it to always come on by itself and only turn off when I manually turn it off.  I looked but could find no suitable setting.  Any suggestions.?  Any registry edits that can take care of this.?  Thanks much.!

Hey everyone, Recently bought this laptop. Loving everything about it. However, I did a fresh install of Windows 10 (it wasn't an upgrade from Win8.1, but rather a new install of Win10 after I replaced the harddrive to a 1TB SSD). Since then I've reinstalled everything I could get from the site. Every Lenovo driver set and utility. Updated the BIOS. Consulted the Solution Center. Ran scans from the utilities and the site. I've literally tried EVERYTHING that's obvious, and I can't get the backlight to come on at all. When I first received the laptop with the old harddrive, the backlight worked just fine. Since I put in the new SSD with a fresh install, I cannot for the life of me get it to turn on. Pressing Fn+SPACE gets it to show the little icon on screen that it's SUPPOSED to be turned on, but it isn't on. So I'm at a loss here. I sincerely doubt it's a hardware issue, because literally the only thing that's changed is the harddrive. If there's a specific driver for the keyboard backlight, I'd love to know about it. Thanks in advance!

Picked up a 920 today from Best Buy. Overall it is a nice upgrade from my MS Surface Pro 3 with TK4. I have one area I would like to find a solution.  On my Surface, our Macbook and my work Dell, the keyboard backlight, when turned one, will turn off after 5-10 seconds of inactivity. When activity resumes, the light turns back on. Of course you can manually turn the light on and off.  With the Yoga 920, I can only get to either be on / off. What am I overlooking? Jeff

Hi
Welcome to the forums.

I'm not sure what can be the issue, but can you try checking the "Lenovo Settings" application to check if your keyboard backlight turns on?
?
The Lenovo Settings is on the Windows Store , but you also need to install the Dependecy Package.

But just checking the support site I found there is a BIOS update that says:
(1.08)
- (Fix) Fixed an issue that "Fn + Space" cannot control KB backlight after exit shipping mode.

Please double check if this is your model support site. Maybe you should apply that BIOS update too.

I hope this helps.

Picked up my new Yoga 2 Pro 13 from BB last night with the i7 and 8gig of ram. Ive been waiting months for this thing to come back in stock and Im getting sad.So far Ive noticed about 20 flashing pixels in various places in the screen. No bright or dead pixels, these guys are flickering. Some are single but I have some groups as well. They are super noticable in the LENOVO screen at boot, in GRUB while loading Ubuntu and In my black wall paper in Win8 so I dont think its a software issue. Also my Yellows are muddy as hell even with the rocket, but thats common I know.  Also I cannot get my keyboard backlight to come on. I have updated all my drivers, Im running the current bios, and Ive reloaded windows8 once already. No backlight in BIOS, Win8, or Ubuntu. Ive tried turning it on with Fn+Space, Ive tried disabling and reenabling hotkeys in the BIOS as well. Im trying to avoid returing it as this was the last one availble in the state apparently and who knows when they will come back in stock but I wont keep a broken computer either. Any Help?

Answer:No Keyboard backlight and flashing Pixels New Yoga 2 Pro

I think the bad news is that you'll have to return it, it sounds like there is something seriously wrong with this.

Yoga 710 with no display.  You can see the screen lighten as if the backlight is working, but nothing else. Also, hooked up an external monitor through the HDMI port with success. The output on the external monitor looks fine.  I'm not sure if it's the entire lcd, or the lcd output from the mother board.  Motherboard (graphics section) seems to be putting out to the external HDMI port.  Thanks in advance for any help.

I have a ThinkPad Yoga 14, which has a keyboard backlight that can be turned on and off by pressing Fn+Space. Recently I've found that if I turn it off, it sometimes stays on. In this state it will flicker when the computer is tapped or bumped, or just moved around, and when placed at certain angles it will stay off. If I turn it on, it stays on consistently ? it's only when it's set to off that it doesn't work right. It seems like there must be a loose connection in there or something. Does this sound like something that can be easily fixed?

Hi!

I recently purchased the Yoga 2 13 (not Pro) & added a second m.2 SSD drive. Today I turned on the keyboard backlight & discovered that the extreme left 'Ctrl' button has an abnormal backlighting. I realised that the key is also slightly raised on the top as compared to the Fn key right beside which is causing this issue. Before I get it inspected, I'm curious to know if I'm the only one who's experienced this or is it a manufacturing defect.

I'm glad the key is working just fine. I tried to gently press it in, thinking perhaps it got dislodged from a catch - However, this doesn't seem to be the case.

I've attached some images & I hope they help to identify what I'm typing about.

Answer:Yoga 2 13 (not Pro) - Abnormal keyboard backlight for left Ctrl button

I think the key is not seated properly. You can do either of these things -

1) Take out the key and try to put it back in (Re-seat)
2) Call the Lenovo support and explain your problem.

If you got the laptop like this, then it is possibly a mishandling case.

In any case, its easy to re-seat a key. The only catch is that different keyboards have different hinges (lock-key) mechanisms, so that could be a bit tricky.

Do not ever push the key too hard to re-seat it, just push gently.

Hello, As the Title suggests, I am not able to turn on my Lenovo Yoga 2 13.When I try to turn on the Laptop, the White Light on the power button comes up for 6 Seconds and then goes off. Keyboard lights do not turn on, & the same effect with pressing the Novo recovery key.The battery does charge (The lights change according to the charge levels.) Things that I have tried so far: 1) Remove the power cable and press the power button for 30 Seconds, 60 Seconds, & 90 Seconds. No Effect. 2) Open up the backside, remove the battery cable (and battery), remove the power cable, and power discharge by pressing the power button. Turn on the laptop using just the Power cable. No Effect. 3) Remove the heatsink, clean it and then reapply the Thermal paste. No Effect. 4) Remove the hard disk and then try turning on. Hi all, I've had my Lenovo ideaPad Z500 Touch for 2 years already, and this is the first time my KEYBOARD BACKLIGHT has stopped working. I am using Windows 8.1 (always updated) on a 64-bit OS. There has been no trauma to the device prior to the disfunction, however I did recently install CCleaner to my laptop to speed up the starting time (which may or may not have anything to do with the disfunction, but I am bookmarking it as a possibility since before installation my keyboard backlight was working just fine). Around the same time I also recently updatedWindows Malicious Software Removal Tool for Windows 8, 8.1 and Windows Server 2012, 2012 R2 x64 Edition - March 2015 (KB890830) upon recommendation from Windows Update, prior to which there was also nothing wrong with my keyboard backlight. (1) I have tried the Fn+SpaceBar option (as I usually do to toggle on/off when I'm doing work), but the backlight still does not turn on.(2) I have tried reinstalling Lenovo Energy Management (as has been recommended in previous posts), but it still does not work even after restarting. Since the last post on this was some time ago (last one on 2nd January 2014 with solutions that do not work for me), I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me on this issue. Thank you so much,

Just to check if the backlight can be restored: can you try restoring to a date before the installation of ccleaner and the malicious software removal?

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad E550 - Turn ON keyboard backlight?

Good day and welcome to the community.

Does your spacebar show this icon: ?

If so, please try holding the Fn key and then tapping the spacebar.
If your spacebar doesn't have that icon, then, in my experience, you don't have a backlit keyboard.

Hello! I just got my Lenovo Y50, with the i5-4210H processor, and the GTX 860M GPU. I have used it for around 30 minutes now. And sadly, the left arrow key produces no backlight. While i actually see the red light surrounding it. The arrow and the speaker icon itself is all grey, and NOT lighted. I have tried rebooting the laptop multiple times, i have tried turning backlight on and off. I'd like to know if anyone else have had this problem, and gotten it fixed. Or if i should return it and get a new laptop.  Thanks in advance!

Hi,For your information, almost everyone says it's working by "fn+space" but for my laptop it was "double space", i don't know why.Anyway, backlight was working fine until yesterday. Fan started to get loud so i took my laptop apart and cleaned the fan. The noise is gone but backlight stopped working. Capslock, numlock lights and fn key are working, i do not know if there is a correlation. I read almost every topic about the issue but none of them helped.

I changed the keyboard since some keys started not registering and all around dirty and the letters started being off colored so I ordered a new keyboard off ebay. The original was UK layout and this one is US. Everything works perfectly with it, except Fn + Space doesn't turn on the red backlights. The backlights worked with the last keyboard. The Fn works. Fn + up/down changes the keyboard no problem. What could it be??

Hi! I've got Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 Silver (https://www.alza.cz/EN/lenovo-ideapad-yoga-13-silver-d375124.htm), and while I am quite content with the device, my keyboard stopped working. I was wondering whether any of you might know and suggest an online reseller (official or otherwise), where I could get hold of a replacement keyboard. Now, I suppose backlit keyboard versions of newer Yoga laptops will not work I guess, will they? From what I have read Yoga 13 Silver does not have the slot required for backlit, but aside that, will the keyboard function and will it fit (dimension-wise)? If so, what is the voltage and current required? Would soldering a small battery to the backlit cable be a good idea (I accept the fact that I wouldn't be able to regulate it)? Thank you in advance!ck

Hello, I would like to know if it would be possible to install Yoga 2 Pro keyboard on Yoga 13 machine? It looks to be the same size and layout, so I am wondering if it work if I switched them. Thanks in advance for help.

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro Keyboard on Yoga 13

I would liketo know the same thing. the Yoga 13 has a light on the caps lock key so there is potentially back light voltage. The key boards look identical. If they are interchangeable how would the Fn keyboard light switch be programmed? I love my Yoga. I just added an 8 gig Ram stick and a 240 GB hard drive. Keyboard replacement is a piece of cake with an eyephone glass repair tool kit.

I recently ordered a Yoga 710 11 inch 2-in-1. I just read that the keyboard has been changed so that where the "SHIFT" key has been for 100 years on the right side of the keyboard, the page up and down keys  now are and it's extremely difficult to type? Is this true that they keys were moved to a non-standard configuration different from all computer keyboards?

Hi CGB1471 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

As same from all other reviews : "the right shift key has been shrunk down to fit" .
Similar discussion here and here about the same topic as users have success on using keytweak to remap it as a workaround specially for those that was accustomed using the right shift for speed typing.

Hope this help answer your query.

hi mudi1997,

Thanks for Posting!

There aint a feature that changes the sensitivy of  the Keyboard, It is plain mechanical when pressing a key.
Try checking if there is a dirt or any foreign things under the key,
If non, Then it might be that the O key is not properly attached, If you are not comfortable reseating the Key, You should Call Lenovo Technical Team for assistance.

For instance I have a 2 @ @ " all on the same key. How do i access them. I've tried ctrl, shift, alt etc but doesn't seem to work and there's nothing in the guide either. Silly question i know but this is the first time i've seen this. Thanks you

I would like to use the numeric keyboard on the lenovo yoga 2 pro. It is ok if I have to activate via a numlock option. At the moment I just don't manage to find the settings. Is there such an option on the yoga 2 pro? If not, what would be the best work around? I do not like to use the touchscreen option as it blocks a significant part of the screen, and makes me a lot slower. Thank you for your help!

Answer:Numeric keyboard lenovo yoga 2 pro

There's no numeric keypad built into the Yoga's keyboard, even through some alt-combination. However, you could use a keyboard macro utility like AutoHotKey to remap the appropriate keys. I'd recommend a visit to your local (or favorite online) office or computer store for an inexpensive USB or bluetooth numeric keypad. I use one when performing data entry, finding it easier to have all keys in the expected spots, and being able to position it to where it's most comfortable for me.

I have a device manager device warning for the Lenovo Virtual Keyboard. The manager says the driver is corrupted and will not load. Everything seems to work. The touchscreen keyboard comes up when I ask from the lower taskbar.  It sometimes comes up on some web sites and some entry areas. I have no problem with how it works right now. The device manager should not have a device that is not loading or have a driver that is corrupt.

Hi all I recently purchased the aforementioned Lenovo model 2 and a half months ago (around May 5). While I love the tablet, I am currently experiencing keyboard issues. When I pressY key or the number 6 I get the number y and 6 (y6)T key or the number 5 I get the number t and 5 (t5)Hyphen '-' key or the left square bracket '[' I get left square bracket and hyphen ( [- )Equals '=' key or the right square bracket ']' I get right square bracket and equals ( ]= ) Output in parenthesis   The caps lock button works, but it also mutes the sound on the device. The mute key works, but also puts the keyboard in caps lock. The backspace button does not delete any previous text - it takes me to the Windows Lock Screen. Ironically, when typing my password at this screen the backspace key works (go fig). When pressing the volume up key, the sound goes down.  When I press any of these keys [-]= alongside shift in an attempt to produce the alternative key output (e.g. capitalizing the key or alternative symbols) the key is unresponsive. Such as the case of t and y - there's no capitalization when holding shift or caps lock. Keys are not responsive when holding shift. This is prevalent when holding keys and the described earlier in the post. I followed the suggestions listed at the following URLhttps://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht103985 And the solutions did not work. Answer:Lenovo Yoga 500 keyboard and mousepad not working?

Hi hunky, Welcome to community forums. Have you made any changes recently on your computer? Are all the buttons on the keyboard not working? Here are the things that you can try.? Press NOVO button, you'll see there 4 options (Normal Startup, BIOS Setup, Boot Menu, System Recovery)? Try to use the Arrow Keys on the keyboard, check if it works.? If the Arrow Keys works select System Recovery.? Once you're there check if the touchpad scroll is still working. If it is working outside OS, but it's not working inside OS. I recommend doing BIOS reset.? Press NOVO button, go to BIOS setup? Press F9 (Load optimal defaults), then F10 (Save changes and exit) Check if everything is working. Hope this helps!

Purchased lenovo 900 series notebook four months back and it was normal untill three weeks when a new update for windows 10 came in. After the new update, whenever I pressed any function key(pressing fn key and button f9) for say send receive emails in outlook or even function f5 for refresh in chrome, entire keyboard stops working. I have to restart the laptop everytime this happens. Then the keyboard works until I press any function combo keys.  I resinatlled the keyboard drivers and updated it. Still it is not working. Then I installed the lenovo vantage app, tried changing hot keys to straight function keys, even then the keuboard stops working and I had to do the reboot stuff. Is there a solution to this problem? what is the issue? as it happened from windows update, am doubting whether this is the update issue or is it the keys are making the entire keyboard locking.... seriously am not able to comprehend the root cause. Can someone guide me

So I was using my Lenovo Yoga 2 laptop for a study session. My keyboard was working fine the last time I used it, which was like ten minutes before it stopped working. Nothing on my keyboard is working, including the F controls/shortcuts. The ThinkPad is working normally and so is its corresponding right/left keys. The screen is also fine and the touch screen keyboard is working as well. My laptop isn't in tablet mode or any other mode other than laptop mode.  So basically, has anyone else had this problem and possibly share their wisdom. Also, if there are basic shortcuts that simply turn off your keyboard and can turnit back on, it'd be quite helpful, because there could be a simple fix but I wouldn't be aware since I am not very tech savvy.  Thank you so much!

Hi, I just bought this laptop 2 days ago, and i really am impressed with how it performs. The only problem i've incountered earlier this morning is that some of the keys in the keyboard didn't work (the P,Z,C keys). I left it on sleep the night before.  After i restarted and remove my mouse from the laptop, it suddenly works again. My question is, is this showing some sign of malfunctioning keyboard? I don't want to always have to restart my laptop and doing all the steps above. Any advice?
