Preferred Solution: lenovo X220 toch screen software issue

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

http://imgur.com/mSaIOuCThis happens on my computer whenever my laptop is at a certain angle. I found out that this is a hardware issue, and not a software issue, but I couldn't find the exact case. How should I fix it?

Answer:Lenovo X240 Screen glitch (hardware issue, not software issue)

The panel is failing. I believe the column drivers' contact tape has delaminated. It is a tape with one contact per LCD column (768) that runs along the edge of the screen

I received my P40 Yoga 6 days ago, and i absolutly love this machine!!!however after spending the first few days updating and istalling all relevent apps for my work (Illusrtator-photographer), when i began drawing on photoshop i fliped into tablet mode and the screen autoroted... 15 minutes later the pen started acting up( cursor was not where it was supposed to be). I decided to restart just incase it was due to updates or any other reason. After restart touch screen was not working, pen worked but not very well. After 7 hours and trying to get the touch to work, and full factory reset still no change, same issue... eventually by luck did some fliping and rotatig, recalibrating and by luck touch screen worked again... this has happened 2 times now so i believe its some sort of issue with screen rotation or tablet mode issues. I hope its a fixable bug and not a hardware issue. This is an amazing machine which i want by my side at all times so please, please resolve this problemthanks

Hi, everybody! I have I strange problem. My ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software was working fine a few days ago until I had to uninstall the software. I had to uninstall it because my x200 had a motherboard problem and went to service. Meanwhile I used the HDD with another notebook. That's why I had to remove the fingerprint software. I got my x220 back and I tried to install the fingerprint (along with all other software and drivers) software, but I'm getting this message and the installation stops: You have currently installed another version of fingerprint software. Please, uninstall your existing software before running this installation. Actually, there's no sign left from the fingerprint software. I removed it via the Programs and Features menu, I entered BIOS, removed all the fingerprint data from the new motherboard (although I believe that was not quite necessary since it's a brand-new motherboard). All other drivers and software installed fine, without any problem. Has someone else encountered a similar problem? I'd appreciate it very much if you help me somehow. Thanks!

I recently purchased a Lenovo X220 and I am attempting to setup a dual monitor with it and a Samsung Syncmaster BX2331 monitor. When I change the setting to extended desktop on the secondary monitor the laptop monitor starts having issues. The useable space becomes bigger than the actual screen so I can scroll up and down while on the desktop. It will also scroll left and right and the desktop icons will move over onto the secondary monitor. The laptop has a resolution of 1366x768 and the monitor is 1920x1080. I am trying to explain the issue the best I can but it's a little hard to explain.

Answer:Dual monitor issue Lenovo x220

I know what you mean, it happened in XP when you set the screen resolution larger than what the screen was capable of. What cable are you using the connection to your secondary monitor? On the secondary monitor, press the auto calibrate button, or it's equivalent, and then unplug the VGA/HDMI cable and plug it back in see if that fixes your problem. it's also worth trying going into the settings and checking the button that says "hides modes not supported by this monitor" If you don't know where that is, right click on the desktop and click "screen resolution" then click advanced and at the bottom of that pop up you should see that check box. Those are the first things to check.

My x220 tablet is haveing issues with the graphics card shutting off. I purchased my x220t about 3 months ago and I have begun to have a reacurring problem. I will be running CAD 2011, nothing 3D, and the screen will spontanneously go black. 5 seconds later, it will restart and an issue report will pop up in the bottom right and corner of the screen. This issue is a real problem since I bought this laptop for engineering and with an i5 processor, CAD sould be running fine. I did not expect the graphics card to be a limiting factor since I am only using 2D visualls right now. I have tried to find similar if others have had a similar issue but I can not find anything. What should I do? ps, I have a screen shot of the info but I am unable to post it.

Answer:Lenovo x220 tablet graphic card issue

hey jwismer, could you uninstall the current graphic driver for you unit; let windows install its generic drivers and then test your unit with your CAD software.does the same problem occur?later, head to http://support.lenovo.com and install the latest graphic driver that is available there.

This just started this morning.  I noticed that if I left a browser window open for a while (particularly with a white background with black text), when I minimize the window, I can see a faint image of it left behind that fairly quickly (at least for now) fades away on it's own.

I turned off the machine, unplugged all the batteries and the power.  Checked and cleaned all the connections and vents.  Then powered it back up on just main battery (has nearly a full charge) played with brightness just a bit.  At first it wasn't repeating the problem but quickly it's showing up again and I am extremely concerned.

I am still under warranty.  Please advise.  Thank you in advance - best regards.

Moderator comment: Subject edited to clarify laptop model.

Answer:Lenovo X220 Tablet (screen just startedshowing signs of screen memory burn in...)

Updated Info:  Problem only happens on the edges of the screen, a little less than an inch in from any edge, top/bottom/left/right and the problem may appear, but anything in the middle and it seems fine.

Doesn't happen if my background is set to solid black.  It's slightly noticeable with a mid-grey tone and it's worse still with a mid to dark grey tone that is tinted with a purple-ish hue.

Could some other x220 owners set their bg color to a dark grey purple color, and try to see if it's just a limitation.  I'm trying to determine if my hardware is failing, or if I just stumbled upon something that for most cases and purposes isn't going to be much of a bother.

Other than recently calibrating my touch and pen input, I haven't made any changes to the system.  Today I installed a new intel graphics driver update from Win update but it didn't change anything.

Thank you all very much.

Hello,I have had to recently wipe my computer (X220 thinkpad) due to issues with Win 10 upgrade & although I have an initial state recovery disk, I don't want to use this due to software installed later. My question is, all I can find now in 2016 are windows 10 apps & even though people consider initial Lenovo software bloatware, I found certain components incredibly useful like the power manager. As an eg, The new power manager comes wrapped in a Win 10 gui app (yuck) with nothing but 'special' icons for Lenovo users and the minute I want to go advanced I'm dealing with Windows control panel again.I especially liked being able to control parameters like fan speed, graphics, dimming etc.If anyone remembers the initial software, they will know what I'm talking about.  I cannot find this anywhere on Lenovo download site for my system and am wondering if there's any way to recover such software.Software I would like back but cannot find for X220.  Running 64 bit on Win 10 ProLenovo fingerprint managerLenovo webcam mgrLenovo power mgrLenovo Network mgr Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!!

Good morning - This is mostly directed at Lenovo Support Staff, but also to those with a X220 Tablet or similar. After hours of troubleshooting, I finally found the cause of my Windows 7 Pro Shutdown issue. The Tablet would hang at Shutdown, then BSOD.  I systematically removed drivers until I found the cause. The current installed version of the Thinkpad Tablet Button Driver, Version 1.04.0.0 as installed by System Update was the culprit.  As soon as I uninstalled that driver, no more issues. I have yet to try the driver that is available from Windows Update - if I have a similar issue, I will go ahead and update this post. Hopefully this will provide some enlightenment to those few who've had to track down a similar issue, and let's hope Lenovo will respond. *Edit*I realize this is in the wrong forum.  Can the Moderator please move it to the X-Series Tablet Forum?  Thanks

My laptop screen has developed a vertical grey band about 10cm wide which starts very light but as I leave the laptop switched on gets increasingly dark and when dark I can see effectively a shadow of a previous image on the screen, making it very difficult to read. I'm concerned that it may not simply be a screen replacement issue as there seems some comment that it may be a connector cable issue.  Any ideas?

Hello, I recently purchased a x220 and I am very happy with it. I turned off  "sleep when closed" for some reason and then accidently left it in my bag for like 15-20mins. It was hot but didn't really smell like burnt plastic or anything. However I feel as if the screen is harder to get at the right brightness. It feels as if I have to get a very precise angle to view the screen at the proper brightness/clarity. However it is hard for me to say if there is any difference to before as this happened only a week after using it. It could be acting just fine and I am just paranoid so my question is has there been any issues that have come up like this before? Has overheating in a bag or something ever caused the LCD screen to function just slightly improperly? Thank you,

Answer:x220 got hot, and now screen display clarity issue?

Well, first of all, I hope you're talking about the basic, TN LCD display, not the upgraded "Premium HD" IPS LCD screen. Anyway, personally I feel like it's so easy to be paranoid about screen quality and possible minor screen damage or defects, but Lenovo has owned up to the "ghosting" issue, so things can really happen sometimes. In your case, I wouldn't worry. Provided you are indeed talking about the basic TN screen and not the IPS, it sounds like your screen's viewing angles are performing normally. For some extra confidence, the Notebookcheck review of the X220 says their test unit got so hot under the sun that the plastic began to warp and bow, and even then, they didn't mention any screen degredation. And for that matter, isn't the X220 Mil-spec tested for heat? http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Lenovo-ThinkPad-X220-IPS-Subnotebook.55639.0.html

Hello Folks, This is my first post on this forum and wanted to share my very recent experience with you and see if anyone has  a suggestion or feedback. I recently purchased a new ThinkPad X220. I got it yesterday (9/1). When I opened the box, I found that the LCD screen is cracked (there is a crack that extends from the top to the bottom of the screen with a circle in the middle as if the liquid crystal is spilled). I contacted customer service right away, and was told that I need to submit pictures of the damage before they can help me. I spoke to a supervisor who promised me a call back at 10 AM today for further assistance. It is 12:10 noon (EST), and I am still waiting for that call. I emailed the sales person, who helped me purchase the machine, to see if she can help me get a refund, or replace the machine, or at lease replace the screen. I even emailed her pictures of the damaged screen, but .... NO RESPONSE! I just spent $1029 for a computer that I can't use, and no one at Lenovo cares to help me. Any idea what should I do next?! Thanks in advance. see this link for the damaged screen: http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/6106115589/in/photostream/

Ihave owned a Windows 7 X220 Tablet for about 3 years, but never previously ugraded the Lenovo software on it. I saw this was possible, ticked various upgrades and set it off to download and install. On restarting the screen is black - with only a flat white cursor top left. I called Lenovo who said they suspected a bios upgrade had conflicted with something else being installed at the same time (I had ticked multiple upgrades at once), and suggested Ilook and ask for help on the forum. They said they thopught I needed to roll back the bios upgrade but Idon't know how to. I run Trend Micro security suite which was not swithced off when I did the upgrade. Any suggestions at all would be really welcome as the machine is effectively dead and unusable unless I can get it back to the previous set-up. ( Isuspect there are likely to be restore  points but cannot do anything at all at present) Thanks very much    cnwlenovo 15 Feb 2015

Answer:Disaster - X220 tablet - screen black on reboot after installing Lenovo upgrades

Ihave just (after posting this request), and 2 weeks after the failed attempt to get the computer to restart, tried again with the laptop powered onto the mains - it must have completely lost battery power in the meantime, successfully rebooted into Windows, the machine installed Windows upgrqades as it booted, and restarted itself in the process. Iliterally bit my nails as this was going on - and pleased to report the macjine now seems to have opened up OKin windows. Phew!!!      Wonder if the "bad loop"it may have gotten into when Iwas tryoing to reboot several times before - resulting in black screen and white cursor top left - may have died with a complete power down. In any event Iam hugely relieved - so Lenovo upgrades were obviously "self-correcting and troubleshotting after all.... Cnwlenovo 15 February 2015

Does Lenovo test the drivers they release any more? I just updated the touchpad driver today and the two finger scrolling is locked to the same setting whether you pick Traditional or Standard in the setting menu. Latest Intel Graphics Driver Lenovo released causes Youtube video to freeze in Chrome and they still haven't released an update even though Intel already did. My X1 Carbon 3rd gen has screen flicker/freeze issue after waking up from sleep. I submitted a ticket a week ago and hear absolutely nothing. According to other member, even replacing motherboard doesn't fix it. I am really started to regret my purchase.

Friends from Lenovo,I write you because, on August 12th, 2016, trying to install the new Windows 10 Anniversary Update, I had to do a reboot of my notebook and in the process, I lost most of the programs and drivers that use my notebook to work properly. I already installed most of the drivers I lost that day, but I still haven`t found and install the correct driver for the hotkeys of my notebook. So far, I have tried with the files r09vu09w and 8jvu43ww, but none of that files is the correct one for my ThinkPad X220 notebook, which I bought in the year 2012. Therefore, I need to ask you if you could tell me how can I get, download the CORRECT hotkey file for my notebook, so I could download it and install it on my Lenovo notebook. Friends from Lenovo, could you please tell me how can I get the correct hotkey file for my notebook Lenovo ThinkPad X220, in order to download it and install it on my notebook?THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR HELP!!!! Yours truly,Cristián Palau

My laptop has suddenly developed a screen issue. Out of the blue one day I noticed the bottom of my screen start to fade to white up the screen. While this would happen, the screen would become unresponsive. The computer was still working behind the scenes, just the display was messing up.
Over a day or so, it stopped the fade to white issue and just started freezing up with white horizontal lines across the screen.
I can get it to work by adjusting the lid to a different angle or pressing in on the back of the lid. Once it's in a good position the computer works perfectly, I just can't adjust the screen in any way. Slight movement (from typing etc) does not make a difference, but actually moving the lid freezes is up. Otherwise the display is perfect.

Not sure if a video of the issue would help.....I will upload and edit with link in a minute.....

Just about 3 hours ago I got this strange problem with the touch screen feature. I've never had any problems with my laptop until now.I touch the screen to zoom in and I notice one of the touch marks stays on the upper right corner of the screen even though I didn't even touch there. Of course it's a nuisance because whenever I try to swipe up or down it would only zoom in or out. That isn't all though.I restarted the laptop to see if it changed anything and all was working fine until I touched the screen again. I was able to swipe up and down with no problems but the moment I tried to zoom in, I suddenly lost the ability to use the mousepad (or the wireless mouse I use) and the touch screen wouldn't recognize whereever I tapped.I can only see the pointer when I'm at the taskbar. I minimize Chrome from there and then I can suddenly see the pointer again. Please help Spoiler (Highlight to read)

Hi all,A few weeks ago I plugged my Lenovo B580 laptop into my new 4K screen. When I turned on my laptop, my built-in screen showed some queer colours, then went black and lastly grey. My 4K screen received signals from my laptop, but my built-in screen was just lighted up and grey. I tried unplugging the screen, but nothing happened. I rebooted my laptop without the screen plugged in. The Lenovo logo showed up fine, but then the screen turned black and then grey with no signal again. I've tried everything I know, but nothing worked. Please help!

Answer:Lenovo B580 Screen Issue

if you say the, with no other screen connected, the computer doesnt show an image is possible that Windows things that a external display is connected. Try pressing one of the Function keys, that one that have a screen icon, to change from 'PC screen only'/'Duplicate'/'Extend'/'Second screen only', try to cycle through and get to 'PC screen only'. That should solve the PC screen, and then, if you want to continue using your PC with that new screen, do the same and cycle through the option you want, try 'Extend' because the screen will represent a multi-screen desktop and the resolution of one screen will not affect the other one.

My laptop was plugged into my tv via HDMI. I ran a virus scan, then restarted. During the restart, I unplugged it from the tv. When the laptop booted back up, it displayed the lenovo logo, then the screen went dark. I waited a while, then tried plugging the HDMI cable back in... and windows (10) appeared as normal on the TV, but still not on the laptop screen. I am able to turn the dark screen contrast up and down with F keys, so it's not completely black.

Basically, I can use my laptop when plugged into the tv, but the laptop screen itself is black. How can I get the screen working again?

Thanks,
J

Answer:Lenovo G500 screen issue

Try pressing the F10 key, you should see more settings on the TV screen where can select which display is used.
If that doesn't work press and hold down the Fn (Function) key before pressing F10.

I've got a Lenovo 3000 N100, it's about 2 and a half years old and I am experiencing a screen issue:When I am running on battery power, the screen flickers, then will remain dark (though you can sometimes make out shapes) for longer and longer periods. Sometimes a restart helps, sometimes it does not. Sometimes moving the mouse helps reduce the flickering, sometimes not. When plugged in, I have no issues. Once, I started getting the flickers, plugged in and they stopped and then without my realizing it, the plug came out, but there was no recurrence of the flickering.I've got one of those extended life batteries and got it less than six months ago.Anyone have any ideas ?

So the screen should be black with an error message. I replaced motherboard with another one,  but could be a DOA gpu in the new one refurbished. I created for demonstration purposes a vid on ytube.  Hope this is ok with Lenovo Forums.

Hi Ilyasse123 ,

Welcome yo the Community Forums.

It would be best to isolate which part of the pc is causing this.
Would you have a better image using a connected external monitor .
Would same problem appear if you turn off and turn it back on using the Novo button specifically on the BIOS for the lines.

You may call in tech support for the service repair if needed.

Hi Guys, Other day I as usual opened my X1 Carbon lid and found out that it's screen stopped working. The keys and all the lights worked as usual. Since it was one month after my warranty ended and I had an issue required replacement of the screen before (Lenovo quoted it around $600) I ordered a new screen and later replaced it. Did not help. I've noticed plenty of people on this forum had similar problem. And it looks like it is not related to the screen. Has anyone found a solution except fixing it by warranty? Thanks!

Answer:Lenovo X1 Carbon blank screen issue

i assume it is the first generation X1 Carbon? On your other posts at the end of June, you mentioned that you had similar issue as someone else, where the laptop gets stuck trying to enter BIOS menu?

Hello,

I reccomended the Lenovo Yoga 13 to my sister. Everything was working fine and I thought I made a good reccomendation. However, yestertay I borrowed it in order to watch a BluRay on an external Screen and connected the Yoga via HDMI. However, after 15min the following happened.
I forced a hard reboot. After 5 minutes it happened again. Anyone any idea what could be the cause of this? Hardware related? Software related?

I think a software thing. Maybe the software you are using to play the BluRay does not handle realease the RAM??The only hardware thing I could imagine is that the Yoga gets too hot. Check your temperature pls

Hi. I got a small issue with my brand new Lenovo E540 ThinkpadIt is working great exect the fact that each time i plug it to the charger, the screen turns off for 2 secs. Is this normal? Anyone else got this before? Or is this some kind of a drivers issue ?I can't understand or imagine what the problem might be. Please give me some advice if you canMany thanks !

Answer:Lenovo E 540 Power plug - Screen issue?

Try install "Intel(R) Driver Update Utility" --->"Auto detect and recommend drivers" ---> and update the "Intel Iris Pro" driver. Mine didn't have this problem, but such and update manage to repair some issues that I've had with display brightness. You can try.

few months back I started to face white screen problem on my Lenovo g500 laptop. At first problem started during boot and then it would appear if I adjust the screen. Then it got worse.A month back I decided to open the LCD panel since warranty is over of the laptop. I simply adjusted video cable and put little pressure on the adapter. It seems to fix the problem but now for last 2-3 days I am again getting the issue. What do you think is the problem? can I fix it?

Answer:Lenovo G500 white screen issue

Hi Mayank29gupta

Welcome to the Forums

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with white screen in your Lenovo G500 laptop.

Connect an external monitor and check if the white screen appears in external monitor? Also check only on battery and also when laptop plugged in.

Let us know the result.

Best regards,

Hi. I have had my Lenovo p500 laptop for around a year and a half and have recently been experiencing issues with the screen going completely white. I would say I've had this issue for about a month now. It will randomly go completely white and if I shut the lid or press the power button and then turn it back on it is fine. It seems to do it when it gets really hot, so I bought a cooling mat for it and that has helped some but it is still doing it. From searching around on the internet, it seems it could also possibly be a problem with the screen or an issue with the video card. How would I go about figuring out what is causing the problem?

Answer:Lenovo p500 White Screen Issue

Hi Elocinyelhsa,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I?m sorry to hear that your P500 Laptop is displaying white screen after some time of usage. Please let sure that the air out vents are clean and without any Dust/Foreign Particles and also re-install the display driver and check also connect the Laptop to an External Display and let me know the findings.

 Hope to hear back soon

Best Regards

Shiva Kumar

Hi I have bought Lenovo Yoga 500 14 i3 six months ago. Several months ago on the left side of the screen appeared ghost touches. This ghosts touches were exactly on one line of the screen, it is about 6 centimetres from right edge. I went to warranty center and they changed the screen. Two months has passed. And exactly in the same screen line touch screen stoped to work. If to put laptop in 360degree mode - everything works ok.Here is the video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xnz_L_11f8Actually I am begining to want my money back.

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 500 14 Touch screen issue

Hi there, Alex -
Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Regarding the ghost punches/ghost touch, there were some isolated issues for that issue on some Yoga 700, in addition to that, there is also a fix for it. Please see this thread.
Can you try the following?

Under theDevice Manager> Human Interface Devices, can you do a right click and disable on anything that says HID-compliant device (this is the driver that controls the touchscreen).
When finished, reboot the system and observe if you still get the same issue.

Hi guys! I'm writing here to get some advice for a bad situation I am having with my Lenovo. It is quite 3 years old, and a few days ago a very bad problem started: in some situations, the screen starts to flicker, everything that was showing is blocked (but for example it there is a video running I can still hear it) and then it fades slowly until becoming completely white. If I press in a random point (not always the same) on the screen or on the edges of the laptop, the screen turns back how it was, and I need to press for a bit to maintain the screen how it should be. The problem could come again if for example caused by some vibrations on the table or by ajusting the incline of the screen. My idea is that the LCD is starting to "detach" (cannot come up with a different word), so sooner or later I will not be able to solve temporarily the problem by only pressing on the screen and that I will have to send it to technical support. I cannot send it right now because i need it for work. Can someone tell me if the problem is this, and eventually how much could cost to repair it?If some more info are needed to understand better, please ask!  Thank you!

So I was just randomly watching a video... laying down and I reach up to turn it up and I hit a button and bam... my entire screen just goes as dark as possible. I keep trying to hit buttons and hope I hit that same button and turn it back on and nothing... So many F button and no idea what they do. Any idea how to fix this? F+ up and down and Brightness keys dont do anything. I can still read the screen... its just very dark.

most dells have a recovery section on the hard drive which puts it back to how it left the factory. Backup your stuff before doing it as it wipes everything from the hard drive.

While uninstalling some (what I believed to be) unnecessary programs, I noticed upon a restart that I had lost the NVIDIA audio control center icon from among my startup program icons on the taskbar. Not really knowing what I was doing, I inadvertently and carelessly installed an NVIDIA driver that turned out to be apparently a video driver because my display resolution deteriorated considerably.

In an attempt to correct that error I did a system restore, but that didn't work, so I tried to reset my screen resolution via the control panel/display/settings. I started by selecting the max resolution and planned on working backwards to get the optimum setting, but after I hit the apply button I got a blank screen except for a small window in the center of the screen which had a top line saying, Self Diagnostics. The middle line of text said, "Nonsupport mode, and the last line reads, "Check signal cable".

Here's the problem.......I'm frozen with that screen and can't escape from it. I tried both normal and safe mode restarts, but both resulted with this same screen (after the display showed the Windows logo and loading process indicator that it normally does). I then borrowed another monitor from a neighbor and got essentially the same result except that the message this time said, "Analog (signal) input....."Cannot display this mode."[SIZE].......analog signal?....where did that come from and how do you change it?

My first question... Read more

Answer:Display screen locked out by software issue

Is the text oversized due to vision issues?

In the Safe Mode screen, try both the "Use Last Known Good Configuation" and "Enable VGA Mode". If that fails, boot to some kind of Windows disk (it doesn't have to be XP, and enter Recovery Console so that you can run the following:

"chkdsk c: /r"

which will run an exhaustive check of the hard drive. It might take 20 minutes to 4 hours, depending.

Is the video card onboard, or add-on?
Post specs of the power supply (make, model & rated wattage output).
Can you boot to BIOS and view the monitor normally (white text on blue/black background)? Enter BIOS by tapping either the "del" or "F8" key immediately after power-on. (The key may vary depending on the computer.)

My computer's screen keeps flashing off then on when I plug/unplug the power cord. This only tarted happening recently. Not sure why. The only thing that I could think of that would cause it was the windows update my computer performed last night when I shut the machine down. Otherwise, I have no idea what's going on. I bought this 21.5 inch touch-screen all-in-one computer for my kitchen counter top a few days ago from best buy.

Here is the link:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-21-5-touch-screen-all-in-one-computer-intel-pentium-4gb-memory-1t...

The experience has not been very good. Right after reboot, this computer gets a fantastic wifi download speed at around 40Mbps.

But as time goes by, the wifi speed drops and drops and drops to something like 0.5Mbps to 5mps.

I tested through speedtest.net.

So, I often times have to reboot in order to get a better WIFI speed. But then as time goes by, the connection speed drops and drops.

Please note that the same does not happen to my macbook pro at the same location, it always gets 40 to 60Mbps.

I've done a little research online, and some people suggest that I uninstall some Lenovo proprietary software, which I did, but it didn't help at all.

The network adapter is realtek 8821ae wireless lan 802.11ac pci-e nic.

If this is easily fixable, I'd rather keep it. Otherwise, I am returning it to Best Buy.

Any idea? Thanks.

Friends, I have a Lenovo Idea Pad U430 Touch (WIN 8.1 64 bit) and the touch screen seem to be having an issue. I had spoken to the Lenovo Support 4 times and spent more than 10 hours on this issue so far. The bubbles appear at the top of my laptop and the mouse pointer goes haywire. This occurs when I start my laptop, for a few minutes and also intermittent - does not happen every time I start. One support person asked me to do a factory reset and I refused as I would be losing the entire set-up and have to spend more than 10 hours restoring it back. I wanted to escalate the problem and yesterday another support person has given an idea to isolate the issue by disabling the touch screen as mentioned in this thread. I just did a Google search and looks like this is a manufacturing issue based on the posts in this thread.Contents from the thread I found in the web:  So I've uploaded this video to document the problem I'm having with my Lenovo Idea pad Z400 touch screen. Every so often, the screen would just go berserk. The video show the left hand side of my laptop with all those circles popping up as if someone if touching the screen. Well, no one is touching the screen ... the laptop is doing it all by itself. And when I try to log out, I couldn't because the mouse functions have been affected ... have to shut down the laptop by pressing the power button. Very frustrating. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znItnUW8feQ&list=UUbaNFySaNij9lqkST4SdeQQ&index=3... Read more

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad U430 Touch Screen Issue

I just would like to make the following suggestion in support of the recommendation to factory reset the unit: 1. Run OKR backup and do a user backup. Save it to folder in another drive to be sure. 2. Do the restore through OKR and select restore to initial backup. This will restore to factory default. 3. If your problem does not exist anymore then it could mean something is going on. And you can start deciding to whether to reinstall those third party programs or not. However, if the problem still exist run OKR restore but this time choose user backup and point to where you save the backup. This should put back the unit to the present condition with all your third party programs and files intact.

Hello guys.

I also have a Y560 - os Win7 64b. Same problems as those presented above. I recently upgraded to BIOS 71 and the message to refresh the windows performance index was not present anymore.

However I have seen that lenovo energy management is going mad. It doesn't change anymore the brightness if you have the laptop plugged in or running on battery. At the same time it changes its settings by itself. Anyone else having this problem? I went back to BIOS 59 and the problem is gone.

Hello, I have had a problem with my laptop for a while now and have only just been able to capture the issue on video. The problem started many months ago, perhaps the start of 2015. Bascially the screen flickers very badly and sometimes across the whole screen but it only happens when the main body of colour displayed is black. As you can see in the video, the second I press the windows buttton the flickering disappears. This is why I have been unsure whether or not it was my laptop hardware or software. I would appreciate it if someone knew how to fix this. Video: https://youtu.be/a3C-TzavBtg Thanks Lewis

Question: Lenovo X220 PSU

Hi Guys, Thanks for clicking. About 6 months ago I ordered an X220 with the following specs: Intel Core i7-2640M CPU @ 2.80GHz 6 GB memory Win 7 Pro. It was really quite expensive, and it is still fairly new. The mains socket in the back has come loose, meaning I can't charge it at home. I work in IT and always take care with my kit. I have used HP Laptops and Dell Laptops for years on end and never had anything like this happen before. I called customer care and was told this isn't covered under warranty. I order tens of £thousands of Lenovo kit every year and I've never had anything as daft as this. Surely the fact that this laptop cost me about £1700 and it is less than 6 months old means that I should expect a certain amount of integrity, especiialy from a manufacturer who prides themselves on the ruggedness of their kit? Does anybody have any advice? Does anybody agree that this is a bit silly? I asked to speak to the customer care assistants manager and was told he was unavailable, I asked to speak to his managers manager and was he told he would also be unavailable. Anyways, rant over. Thanks in advance for your time all! Charles

It is very unfortunate that you are experiencing this issue with your machine. And I would like to gain a little bit more clarity on what you are experiencing, are referring to the socket where the ac adapter plugs in? Thank you.

Hey there,

Yesterday my 2.5 year old laptop had an error.

I was working in excel, when suddenly the screen shifted out of focus.
I saw everything on the screen echoed some pixels to the upperleft, and moving the mouse over a shifted area turned this area back to normal, however this also shifted the area where the mouse no longer was.

I thought I should reboot my laptop, but then it wouldn't start. I have tried rebooting in safe mode and recovery modes and saw several blue screens flash by. I have inserted the 2 recovery discs that came with the laptop, but it cannot finish installation.

What concerns me is that even if I get a recovery disc to work, the screen might still be shifted. Do you think this might be a hardware error, a cable breaking somewhere? Or is it a software error somehow? Or perhaps it was a software error leading to a hardware malfunction?

I'd like to install an operating system again, but if the screen has a hardware issue it might be more worthwhile to buy a new laptop all together.
Please advise if you have any idea on what could cause this, thanks in advance!

Kind regards! ^_^

Answer:Is it a hardware and/or software issue when the screen suddenly shifts?

Hi mate?

Do you mean, the notebook cannot boot up, neither using the preinstalled OS nor using the recovery disk???

Are you able to go to BIOS?
Press F2 at the beginning in order to access the BIOS?.

But if this will not be possible then I would assume an hardware failure is responsible for this issue? maybe something wrong with graphic chip?

This might explain the strange display issues before notebook crashed?..

Hello everyoneI have a problem with a second hand Lenovo C200 All in One system I've been given. My usual stick with new hardware is reinstall Windows 7, which went fine. It took me a while to find the drivers due to this site, but I did and installed them all. This also went fine. I then noticed when I came back the screen was black and wouldn't respond. I looked it up on here and found a solution suggesting the Intel Graphics update 3150 (working from memory might have the wrong number there) was causing the problem. I uninstalled this and found that it was. This is rememdied by an aparent BIOS update. Now my issue comes when finding the BIOS update for the system. It doesn't exist on this site. I've found one for the C200 thinkpad, c200 notebook, but nothing for this AiO system. If someone knows, or has a download for this from a trusted provider I'd be greatful. I'm not going to give the 2 I found a shot without clarification first... Thanks for any help.

Hi all,

i just purchased a new Lenovo Flex 2-15D Laptop for my Child.

I just started it an on the right side of the screen there are some points on the screen where the screen is brighter flickering. It looks as the screen is registering input touches, even if there are none.

In fact, working with the device is only possible if i'm switching thr touch device off in the Device manager in windows, otherwise the lapttop closes windows and is doing some other nonsense.

The same trouble comes up after upgrading on windows 10.

Is there anyone could help with tht issue, please?

Thank you very much indeed!

Best regards

Daniel

I am share my experience with this forum as i could not hold Lenovo support supervisor ( customer relationship). Hope some one from Lenovo customer relationship department could read it  and keep Lenovo customer happy.  We purchased our Lenovo Idea-Pad in September. In the middle of December, we experienced a screen flicking issue on the Idea-Pad. When the laptop powered up, the screen would flicker colored lines across the screen. We called the support line for help and still have not resolved our issue. For a rough summary, here are all the steps that we went through from start to end when we tried to diagnose the issue with Lenovo support: We were first told to remove the power panel and hit the power button. (To release the static power on laptop) After doing that, we were able to login to laptop, but soon saw the flickering issue again. Flickering issue is NOT related to static power residing on the battery. We called back to Lenovo support again. This time, we were told by support to download new video card software image from your website, (Although the image version on our laptop is newer than the download version) Knowing this would not fix anything, we did it anyway, and still saw the flickering.  Flickering issue is NOT caused by software drivers. So we called again. This time, the customer support asked us to restore all the software back to manufacture defaults. At this point, I highly doubted this would be a software problem, but still rel... Read more

Answer:Lenovo c200 all in one desktop windows 7 issue blank screen

hi neilodmt,

Welcome to the Forums.

Looking at the Windows 7 Boot Process, the OS loads up the necessary dependencies, drivers, and system registry hive as soon as the Windows 7 logo appears.

it's possible that during the Windows Update, the system installed a display driver or an update to the system files that's causing the black screen issue. If you're able to see a display during POST / Windows Recovery then there's no need to open up the machine.

To isolate, can you try one of the following:
1. Boot in Safe Mode (Windows will be forced to use a generic display driver). if this works:
  a. Open Device Manager > Display Adapters > (right click) on the display device > choose Properties
  b. On the Display Properties, navigate to the Drivers Tab and click Rollback Driver then hit Apply > then Ok.
  c. Reboot the machine in normal mode and observe.

2. If you're using a Windows 7 Home Premium (without SP1), re-install the OS and temporarily disable Windows Update. When you get to the desktop, install Windows 7 Service pack 1. If successful, create a System Restore point and install the other updates from Windows Update.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards

Hi, i have a strange problem with my X220until not long ago when i used the FN + keys i used to have a symbol showing up in my screen but now it doesntBTW the keys works mostly o.k. except FN+F5 What do i need to install in order to have the symbols back and have FN+F5 working again?  Thanks Tal

Answer:FN software in X220

I think you need the Hotkey Features Integration driver. Here's a link to the drivers page: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-77280 FN-F5 is tied to Access Connections so you might need that too, it is near the bottom of that page.

Hi,  I'm considering to get an X220 stuffed with an i7, fast HD and lots of RAM.  However, after having my W500 replaced 3times within a period of 1 year I'm not so sure if it is a good idea to get a Lenovo.  Any links, hints or tips on the quality of the current X220?  The only major thing I came across until now was an issue with overheating. I'm planning to use the machine for some CPU heavylifting and it seems that a lot of X220 models are overheating and scaling down the CPU MHZ. I actually read something about that this behavior is by design. Is that really the case? I consider that the same as I would buy a Porsche that locks down at 70MPH. I don't see why a machine should scale down at 100%CPU speed.

Answer:Getting a X220 or Lenovo in gengeral?

Actually, you won?t be able to use any x220 (I?ve got a x220i with an i3) at its full capacity with AC power (65W adapter) only, while your battery is not attached to it (to protect it from the heat emitted by your hot cpu). This is the one big by-design flaw Lenovo incorprated at least into this one series of laptops. With a 90w ac adapter, you won?t have any problems, but it costs extra? You are free to think whatever you like? The issue is discussed with other X models herePeople are discussing alternative adapters here

Hello, i acquired recently a x220. The thing is, it will only turn on if you remove the battery and the CMOS battery, and, after plugging the AC adapter it will turn on automatically. Other thing is, after you turn on, you can plug the battery back and remove the AC adapter, it will use the battery normally. Someone had this issue? i need some advices.

Answer:Lenovo x220 won't turn on

I don't know, but how fresh is the CMOS battery? If unsure I think I'd try replacing it with a new one first.

Hi there, I apologize for the rudimentary question... I was recently given the X220 as a gift. It seems great--but I need to install programs, burn CDs, and watch DVDs on this thing! To do so, what do I need to buy? Can I get any old CD/DVD reader, or do I have to buy the Ultrabase 3 + something else? I can't believe how impossible it is to find this out when browsing the website! Thanks,~Kalyx

Answer:Using CDs and DVDs with the Lenovo X220

The least costly solution would be to buy an external DVD drive with a USB connection that can be plugged into the USB port on your X220.  There are many on the market.

Cheers,

Bill

Hi, the above laptop has not been working well for quite some time (not sure if it was related to upgrading to Windows 8.1).  The laptop keeps 'hanging' and I have to reboot.   I have run the solution centre which it keeps failing on the hardware scan with results code: WMEBVV2S0-WJIAKG.  I have been unable to find out what this indicates and therefore a possible solution. After i Flash the BIOS, then the Fan works again, but if i power off the laptop and power it back on it won't start unless i flash the bios again. What could be the problem for this? The laptop is still in warranty , but i don't have any papers and it was bought from outside EU. Is it any worth to go to warranty?

I have a Lenovo X220 running Windows 7 with an Intel i5 2430m clocking at 2.40 gHz and an integrated video card. It's my only computer right now (I will not be getting a new one in the forseeable future) and so I play all my games on it. However, with the new games coming out requiring system requirements over 2.40 gHz, I was wondering is there anyway to push my CPU speed beyond 2.40 gHz without changing the CPU? If it's not possible, is there any compatible CPU upgrades which I can get for my Lenovo X220 which allows me to run GTA 5 at medium to high graphics at over 30 fps? I live in Hong Kong however so if you can provide any addresses to get these replacement CPU, that would be nice . Will appreciate any answers.

Answer:Lenovo X220 - How get it run as fast as possible?

Welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately you can't swap the CPU since it's soldered into the motherboard, meaning if you need more CPU power you'll need a new motherboard.

The most powerful option is an Intel Core i7-2640M (2.8-3.5 GHz, 4MB L3 Cache).

I anyhow doubt that the CPU above will play GTA5 correctly, I think your biggest bottleneck is the graphics card.

Answer:Lenovo software update only shows startup-screen! dit every patch and stuff I could find!

What version of ThinkVantage System Update are you running?  Is this a recent problem?

There was a problem with the initial 5.0 release a while back that exhibited this issue, due to some confusion about which .NET version it was using.

Try uninstalling TVSU, rebooting, then reinstalling the version in the driver matrix.

Laptop screen flickering? - YouTube <-- Cellphone vid of the screen flicker

So a year or so ago I had to send my laptop off to Staples Business Depot where I got it to have my screen fixed. It would randomly start flickering black and loseing picture before coming back. Sometimes It wouldnt come back for a few minutes or at all until shutdown.

After staples was done looking at it they just backed up and reset my laptop. This is what was said:

"Comprehensive hardware test performed. No trouble found with testing.

Video issue was only recreated inside Windows & tested ok outside of Windows. May have been a driver conflict / software incompatibility

A complementary factory re-installation was completed to ensure the system is performing to manufacturer design.

Repair completed and final testing passed. External cleaning performed. Returning to store for Customer pick-up"

And honestly that fixed it for the time being but now the issue is starting again. Same thing, has only happened once or twice but now I have no warrenty left to have it repaired.

Thus far it has only happened while I am on my desktop or using google chrome. It hasnt happened while playing any games yet but it did previously when the issue first started.
Laptop is an Asus X73S
Intel i7 @ 2.2GHz
Nvidia 610m (all drivers up to date)

Doesn't seem to be an option to get the X220 with Windows 7 32bit.  Any idea why, or if it can be done? Our users are stuck with some really old dos based software that they have to use and it won't run on Win7 64 bit. Updating the software is not an option, nor is running in XP Mode.

Answer:X220 Windows 7 32 bit software

Hi BigMac55, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

Windows 7 32-bit DVD's are listed in the X220 Hardware Maintenance Manual, so it's available, but perhaps not through the online store custom to order pages. Call sales or your rep to order.

Hope this helps!

After the complete instalation with the drivers update, I've got one non working USB port (the one from the left side next to the palmrest). Also there's the yelow mark in the Device Manager next to the "unknown USB device". Any sugestions how can I fix it? Should I remove that USB port and put it back? Or I should look for something different? It would be nice if anyone can help me with some advices

Recently bought a new Lenovo X220 and have had it for about 2 months now.  It pretty much stays in my home office - rarely goes anywhere else.  Never been dropped, banged, etc...  This morning, I noticed that the audio from my headphone jack is only on (1) side - the RIGHT side.  I've gone into the settings (SOUND, DEVICE MANAGER, SMART AUDIO) and have tried to adjust the panning/balance settings on all of those but - NO LUCK.  This is REALLY unfortunate, seeing as how this laptop is used for music.ANY useful ideas or suggestions?  Has anyone else encountered this issue?  Any fixes?

I've got strange problem with two Lenovo X220 laptops. After disassembling the laptop for cleaning and thermal paste exchange, I can't start both laptops. I've got no idea what could happened. Both laptops looks dead. I've checked all connections - looked OK. Any ideas what could happened? What did I do? After I conected the fans, I placed the motherboards by error to the wrong casing. After I started the laptops I found out that the motherboard were switched (I checked the motherboard s/n in BIOS and compared them with the sticker on the bottom of the casing). So after that I took the motherboards out of the casing again and placed them to the correct casing. And after that I wasn't able to start the laptops any more Anybody knows what could it be?

I have a quesiton I have not found an answer to. Will the X220 charge the battery, when plugged into the 90W charger (42T4430), if the computer is in use?  I used my computer on battery for a few hours, drained the battery to 30%.  Then I went inside to plug it in and keep working.  After 4 hours of working, and it plugged in to the wall the battery still indicates 30%. The same thing happened when I was using my docking station.  I arrived at work yesterday with 76% battery.  After 8 hours on the docking station, I still indicated 76% battery life.  My previous (other major name brand) laptops all would charge even if I was working on the laptop.  Is the X220 different by design?  Do I have to shut down and plug in to recharge?

My doughter's laptop falled down from the table what caused that the LCD is not working correctly. It lights a little bit, but stays almost dark. I checked the LCD, and it looks that the one is OK (I put it into another X220 t and it works. So it looks that there's something different broken (also I mounted the correctly working LCD from another X220 t into the one and doesnt work either). What could it be? Where should I find the reason of that? Could it be something with the motherboard or what? As mentioned before, the LCD lights a little bit, but doesn't show anything, stays dark (a little lighter than as is OFF).

Answer:Lenovo X220 tablet LCD backlight.

I'm guessing you blew a fuse on the motherboard.  They are VERY fast burning fuses and easy to blow.  Unfortunately, most places cannot fix that sort of problem without replacing the board.

I have an older x220 thinkpad; when running backup it gave me an error message that there was not enough room (but there was plenty of room on the external drive!).  I made the mistake of deleting the backups from the external drive manually.  Now, it hangs up.  I thought perhaps deleting the backups showing in the system would force it to start over with a brand new backup instead of looking for the old ones; however when I try to delete the backups from the list in lenovo backup, it also hangs up.  I would like to find a way to clear all of the history out of the backup system so that it will start over with a new image (and work, of course).  Any ideas?

Strange problem I'm having, my x220 wont recieve any updates from windows. Ive re-installed multiple times, tried many fixes and nothing has worked. Most recently I just reinstalled the whole laptop and first thing I ran was the lenovo system updater, it's stuck on installing windows 7 update module kb2459268 64 bit.. when you goto windows updates it just checks for updates forever. I bought this system used and I originally installed windows 7 and updated to windows 10 which worked, but windows 10 was unsupported and the computer had issues powering off and going to/waking up from sleep. Ever since then when I reinstalled windows 7 I have had this issue. I cant work with a pc that doesn't update... Any tips greatly appreciated. Brad
