Edge unresponsive after reboot but responsive after reopen

Question: Edge unresponsive after reboot but responsive after reopen

Im running windows 10 pro with the latest creators update.
I didnt have any problems but suddenly and it was before updating to the latest version of windows my edge is unresponsive after rebooting my system.

When I open edge after a reboot I can use the menus and scroll. When I load YouTube I can see the videos and scroll but cant open any of them I have to close edge and reopen it to fix the problem.

I made a reset, deleted edge and reinstalled, used ccleaner but the issue is not resolved.

Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: Im not sure if it is related to my new gpu but I think the issue occurred after installing my msi 1080ti gpu but im not 100% sure....other than that no changes in my system.

Preferred Solution: Edge unresponsive after reboot but responsive after reopen

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Alright so after a bad download, my laptop got infected and I did the removal using Avast and Malwarebytes anti-malware. It's good now but here's the thing. You see my laptop is a good laptop for gaming and such, so I can handle games especially the ones I have been playing, but the thing is whenever I launch a game such as league of legends or Planetside 2 or anything, the whole client (game) goes "not responding" and then "responding" in less than a second and it keeps alternating for 5-10 seconds and I cant type or do anything, its like tabbing in and out really quickly and Idk waht to do because this never happened before. Im happy to provide any info that is required. My operating system is also Windows 10. The name of the laptop is Lenovo y-40

I've upgraded to Windows 10 and so far so good. I'm not sure if this is a question for W10 or for the Edge browser...? When opening the browser, I used to be able to see the Top Sites visited, and reopen closed tabs, sometimes even the previous session, and also sites visited on my Windows Phone. Now, I only get 'Top sites' and the MSN news feed. So far I can only find settings to set to open new tabs to Top Sites or a blank page. I'd prefer to be able to easily find recently closed tabs rather than searching through history. And being able to see and open sites from Windows Phone was nice, why is that no longer available?

Answer:How can I reopen closed tabs in Edge?

I guess IE11 could sync my desktop with my other devices including my phone. Not seeing any settings for this in Edge.

Is there any way to see what tabs have recently been closed - without searching thru history. I am used to Firefox in Windows 7, which handled this matter directly.

Answer:In Microsoft Edge, how do I find and reopen recently closed tabs?

Ctrl shift T should reopen closed tabs, just like firefox

When I click on the hub icon (favorites, reading list, etc.), I get no response. It's stuck on reading list. Clicking on favorites does nothing.

Answer:Edge Hub is not responsive

Does Edge totally freeze up then too(happened to me when viewing Downloads). The only thing that eventually helped was clearing everything(nuking the cache). I suppose it was a corruption.

For some stupid reason my clients website does not load properly on Edge. This is their website: Waterproofing Oakville, Burlington, Hamilton, Grimsby St. Catharines. The banner image always gets cropped out. I don't see the issue in Chrome/Safari/Firefox.

Can someone help me with this?

Edge is unresponsive after the Creators Update (opens to blank page, Home button won't work and can't even type anything in address bar). Most hamburger menu items on right work except New Window and Zoom and extensions lost. All previous settings like Home page, Save Downloads location, etc are still there. Edge was working before the Update and most everything else in OS works flawlessly. I tried un-install but re-install failed so rolled back to 1607, Edge worked and reinstalled CU via ISO, same problem again.

I tried this Brink tutorial - Reinstall and Re-register Microsoft Edge in Windows 10 with no change. Tried changing DNS, sfc scannow found no corruptions. Most of the time, I can only close Edge via Task Manager kill. Any other suggestions ?

Answer:Edge non-responsive after Creators Update

FIXED !! Had to delete this hidden folder in Safe Mode first -
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe by un-ticking Read Only, Apply and then deleting the entire folder. Reboot and THEN use Brink's tute to reinstall. Have set up Edge settings again but at least it works now.

I'm having a lot of Freezing issues... Here we go.. So,whenever I launch a game, say through a game client (e.g. Steam, Origin, etc.) or even on a standalone launcher (e.g. Starcraft II, Diablo III), my system will either run through a few intro videos without any hiccups before completely freezing (i.e. no input response whatsoever), or it will freeze up almost seconds after the initial launch. Adding to this.. One weird thing I noticed today: I found that when I launched Battlefield 3 on EA's new browser setup I can only prevent my computer from freezing when I deselect the option "go to game when ready".Occasionally it works. Today I was able to play and finish the Mass Effect 3 demo. Everything ran smooth; frame rates were at 50+ the entire time running at 1080p with nothing really out of the ordinary. Then I tried Crysis 2. Game updates..runs. Installed hi-res text pack..runs. DX11 high tessellation pack..runs. Crysis 2 relaunches, runs for maybe 5min., then the system completely freezes. I reboot, try other games through Steam (after validating game integrity and de-fragmenting game cache files), Origin (same process as steam but through EA's recommended steps), and Starcraft II, Diablo III etc. Same issue as before (freezing). Maybe progressively worse at times:?:Here's what I have done to try and fix my problem(s)-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------... Answer:PC freezing up and becoming non-responsive requiring reboot

Important information you should have included is missing, specifically you left out hard system information. You need to list your make and model if a factory built system plus all added hardware or if a custom machine you need to list all of your components (all makes and models). There are some things that can be lifted out of the scan that you included but information like your motherboard, your power supply, your exact graphics card and more can give us valuable information. While you are at it, include internal temperatures at idle and at load from HWMonitor or Speedfan (or similar) as this may also help. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Hello everybody.  This is my first time posting here. I have a T400 laptop that I bought used awhile ago. I upgraded the old HD that was in it to a Samsung SSD a few days ago.  I installed a licensed copy of Win7 Pro X64 and for the past few days its been running fine.  I just got around to installing an extra licensed version of Kaspersky AV onto the system and once it finished was prompted to initiate a reboot.  This is where things went wrong.  Upon booting back into Windows 7 and getting to the login screen my built in keyboard and trackpad were unresponsive.  I plugged in a wireless USB logitech keyboard and mouse combo I was using with another laptop and that too was unresponsive.  Here is a list of what i've tried... When my controls work:In the BIOS or outside of my main OS installWhen booting into the windows setup disc/usb I have full keyboard and mouse functions When I don't have control:When booting into my main OS at login screenWhen booting in Windows Safe Mode of main OS Does anyone have an idea of whats going on?  I've never seen this before and I of course really don't want to have to reformat my system to fix this.  Thanks for any recommendations!

I bought this computer like two weeks ago and all of the sudden the computer won't work at all.  I can't turn it on and the light indicating that the machine is charging won't light up when I plug it in.  The area around where the power cord plugs does get warm though, which makes it seem like the computer is charging.  Any ideas?

Using Edge, if I click the "+", open a new tab, then drag that tab out to start a new browser window everything seems fine.

I can open more and more tabs on that "daughter" window. If I then choose "close all tabs", they all go away...but the edge browser window stays open. Clicking the "X" in the upper right does nothing, as does the right-click on the task-bar. The "mother" window still works. It's the "daughter" window, devoid of any tabs, which is unresponsive.

I need to ctl-alt-del and close BOTH (all) edge browser windows (totally shut down edge) to make the blank edge window disappear.

This is repeatable.

On starting up my Compaq Presario CQ60-218, I received notification of a virus and whilst attempting to remove it, the laptop shut down to protect itself. I briefly got a blue screen with text advising me of this before it quickly went to a black screen of death with flashing cursor.
I've researched this on various threads and forums but nothing described the exact problem I have. When I tried advice to reboot in safe mode by using Ctrl+Alt+Delete, nothing happens and I get no response from repeatedly hitting the F8 key either, just the black screen.

I've tried various things I've seen recommended, powering off for 10 mins, removing battery, hard reset including 20 sec battery drain etc but nothing worked. I also connected an external monitor which showed nothing thereby I think ruling out graphics card and display issues.

I did find that by hitting F10 key I was able to get into BIOS diagnostics and ran memory test which was passed and then a primary hard disk test which failed within seconds with #1-07 Fail. So could i somehow reset to an earlier state, even if it wiped computer, or is only option an expensive new hard disk?

I'm posting this from a 2nd machine so I do have the option of downloading and using USB to transfer solutions if I can get Compaq to respond.
Grateful for any advice

Answer:Can't reboot, black screen, F8 key unresponsive

If you failed the inbuilt hard drive test, it's most likely that your hard drive has failed.
If you're unsure of that, run one of the free diagnostics listed here: HD Diagnostic (read the details at the link) - Test ALL of the hard drives.

I just bought a 250 gB hard drive today for $43 (US)
You'll also need recovery disks for your system. If you don't have them, here's a link for ordering them (US only): Order Recovery Discs (USA)

I've been trying to track this down, and fix it, since I built this system 5 months ago. Now I'm getting desperate... when all else fails, ask for help.

Problem: every few days, or occasionally twice a day, my system will become very slow. Programs become unresponsive, (even pulling up the task manager), and it takes about 3 minutes for the system to shut down, and another 15-20 minutes for the system to reboot.

I have tried everything I can think of. I have a minimal set of starup items, (just 3 in msconfig; joystick, audio control panel, and IAStorIcon. I have searched through event viewer, and the only indication I get is that windows logoff took an insanely long time to log off. Scannow indicates no problems.

I have turned off dozens and dozens of services, and still I haven't been able to track this down. I've tried manually quitting and restarting expolorer, manually shutting down each service when it gets slow, but invariably when it happens, I'm stuck with a 15-20 minute reboot, instead of 20-30 seconds.

When it reboots, I get a flashing underline, then it sits on the windows startup screen for the next 12-15 minutes, then eventually boots into the desktop and everything is normal again.

I've turned off all power saving features, and have everything running at full power. I've turned off all schedules (as far as I know) of all events that might otherwise run at regular intervals.

When it becomes unresponsive, everything just gets insanely slow, (except mou... Read more

I purchased a Y460 last month and am experiencing an issue that is becoming more common.  I will leave my laptop running for a bit and return to it in sleep mode---no problem, I jiggle the mouse and give it a second...  The issue is the laptop increasingly is unresponsive.  The mouse curser moves around but no ther input is registered; as in no keypress or mouse button.  Cntrl-Alt_Delete is useless and I am left with no alternative but to hard-shut-down the computer. (Hold power button 5 seconds)  After I power back up it behaves normally.  This has happened in every power scheme, on A/C and battery, both integrated graphics and 5650 running. Any ideas?

Answer:Y460 Unresponsive without forced reboot

could be driver issue. try to re-install power management, graphic card drivers first.
then check system logs for errors ( right click my computer > manage > event logs )
ps : check the issue persists on safe mode.

I received my XPS 9560 last week, and it's a nice machine, however I'm having issues getting keys to register as being pressed.
At first, I thought that I was just getting used to the keyboard and missing some of the keys whilst typing - they work most of the time, however I've started noticing some patterns and narrowed down the cause.
Essentially, the problem occurs if I do not hit the keys exactly in the centre of key. Pressing either the edge or, more commonly, the corner will depress the key a significant amount, but apparently not enough to register as a key press. It is lost obvious when pressing either the right hand edge, or bottom right hard corner of a key.
I've put a short video together demonstrating the issues:
(Please ignore the meowing noises in the background. Tux is a very vocal cat.)
I'm certain it's not a software issue as this has been happening across multiple Linux installs and whilst using Windows.
Is this normal behaviour and something others are able to replicate? It's killing the typing experience for me on what is otherwise a very nice to use keyboard, and may be enough for me to return the 9560.

Yesterday, I started having my computer freeze while I was playing a game. I didn't get a BSOD or any kind of error message. The computer just completely locked up. If a sound was playing, it got stuck. It was completely unresponsive; clicking didn't work, and neither did ctrl+alt+del. I had to turn off my surge protector's power or hold down the PC's power button to turn it off. It seems pretty random. At first I thought it might be a problem with the hard drive the game was on, but then I tried a game that's on another hard drive, and it worked fine for quite a while until it eventually froze the computer as well. Plus, I've already had an experience with hard drive failure, and I always got a BSOD in that situation, unlike now. Also, Hard Disk Sentinel says all my hard drives are at 100% health. My next guess was the graphics card, but I'm not getting artifacts or noticeable framerate drops. I did just have my display driver stop responding and immediately recover while I had a Twitch stream playing at the same time I was playing Skyrim. Firefox crashed, I restarted it and the stream, then I went back to playing Skyrim and the computer froze shortly thereafter.
I found another thread with someone having a similar problem. They were asked to post a Speccy snapshot and the results from a MiniToolBox test. I've already taken care of that, so I'll post those now.
Here's the Speccy snapshot:

I have a retail version of win8 pro. All updates have been applied. I have a 128g SSD and several SATA3 hard drives in my system. Often I'll be working on my PC and a program like photoshop or thunderbird or even explorer become unresponsive and greys out and sometimes if I wait long enough it comes back but only for a short while before it happens again.

Many times it will happen when I am accessing the file structure, i.e. file > open and other times it will happen in an explorer window when trying to access a random folder, i.e. I can browse the c:\windows folder but not the c:\windows\system32, but after waiting a bit it shows up.

Sometimes this happens with other (non system) drives.

Also, when I try to open task mgr or event viewer or many built in OS executables I immediately get an error stating:

c:\windows\system32\taskmgr.exe (or mmc.exe, etc.) The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion

A reboot fixes this problem, but only for a short while. It may even be that this only happens after coming back from sleep but I haven't spent enough time in front of the machine post-boot but pre-sleep to know for sure.

I have had some intermittent issues with coming back from sleep where either the monitors (video card is HD7870 and mobo is ASRock Z77 Pro 3 - firmware up to date) never initialize or I get the splash login screen but my usb keyboard doesn't recognize input to allow for the password prompt and the mouse cursor moves ... Hey everyone.

So my PC began acting up and I have a feeling it started when I was looking for video editing software and came across a video editor called "softonicdownloader_for_Windows-live-movie-maker.exe" I'm sure it's a virus or something because problems with my PC began shortly after getting this.

After doing so, I had little success. Here are still the issues with the PC

hi, recently i have a problem with my laptop, it started with a blue screen and a lot of white letters, then it turns off by it self, i turneded  "on" and it goes to the "windows error recovery"" so, i choose safe mode to try to get system restore, and NOTHING... IT JUST WENT  TO ADVANCE SYSTEM RECOVERY,  i tryed many times this way with no success, so the option i got was to go to advance recovery, i press ok to continue, after it finishe it say that it went to the point of new like the factory sended, now it doesn't boot up at all.... and everytime I turn it on it goes to the windows error recovery over and over again and try to load windows by it self..... what should I do???

Answer:my thinkpad edge can't reboot.... please help!!!

Hi, 365hvacr
There are a few options that you could utilize for this issue. If you are trying to boot into Safe Mode to try and restore Windows to an earlier place in time, you could try booting into Safe Mode manually, which can be accomplished by tapping F8 when you turn on your system until a menu pops up asking if you want to go into Safe Mode. Select Safe Mode and see if that lets you get to your desktop.
Another method to accomplish a system restore will involve using WinRE (Windows Recovery Environment). This method requires a recovery disc, but you should be able to boot from the CD and use the disc to set Windows back to an earlier state.
The final method also requires a Windows disc, but would involve reinstalling Windows. This would remove all of your files, however.
Hope it helps,

I buy Lenovo thinkpad edge E531 few months back and initially, I noticed that laptop becomes unresponsive if I leave it in idle state and mouce pointer can move on screen but laptop becomes unresponsive. Then I started locking screen in order to avoid this situation. However since last week, laptop becomes unreponsive even in lock screen. I can not do any thing except hovering mouce pointer. I am annoyed. I am suspicious that may be some driver is cretaing this trouble. Does anyone has any clue. Thanks

Answer:Think pad edge E531 becomes unresponsive in idle mode or lock screen mode.

Hi Ahmadbilal,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
We understood that your query is about system not starting up after idle mode on ThinkPad Edge E531.
Make sure the Windows and Lenovo drivers are up to date too.
Please download ThinkVantage System update application from Lenovo driver link and update all the drivers.
Try clean boot to find out which program is causing your pc running slowly or unresponsive
Instruction here:
Basically you have to disable all startup items and NONE-Windows services through msconfig then restart your pc then put it back to sleep or idle mode and see if the problem is solved?
Hope this helps.
Best regards,

Hemanth Kumar

I have a problem with my Thinkpad Edge S430 running Fedora Linux (19 and 20). I can suspend the machine just fine, however, it wakes up automatically right after the suspend finishes. When the system runs again and I suspend again it stays in suspend. So far this could be a Linux bug. But I get the same when I shut down the machine: it turns off and the turns on automatically again after a second. Again, if I shut down after this reboot it stays powered off. Anyone else seeing something like this?

I have contacted HP about the problem, said my Windows 10 needed update (purchased a week ago), upgraded, crashing constantly using Edge- wouldn't display FB videos properly- tried IE- crashing on FB and Yahoo mail- all blue screen and reboot- have slow Internet, so took laptop to work to upgrade Windows10 and install Chrome.  Took it back home, crashing in the middle of checking my mail and playing a game.  Have run quick diagnostics, no problem.  3 updates were available yesterday from HP:  display, synaptics and graphics- when I tried to run them on the faster network at work, I got a blue screen and reboot, and no updates were available.  I have clicked in settings to stop the computer on error from restarting so I might get an error message on the blue screen, but it isn't working.  If I can't enjoy this computer, I will exchange it- or maybe not get another right now at all.  My 8-year old Compaq was trustworthy, but I dropped it, and I was hoping that this much faster machine would be good.  Is it the computer itself- Windows 10 incompatibility with AMD processor- intermittent slow Internet speeds?  At first I was using wi-fi. but am plugged into the router now.

I know this is a windows problem, but I have scoured the internet with no solution.  If i unpin the edge and store icon from the taskbar and I reboot or logout (or just kill and restart explore.exe) then they come back.  There are 2 fixes that are supposed to work - removing these from registry key, and from a roaming profile path - but none of that works for me.  Anyone got any other ideas?

I just bought an ultrabay caddy for my Thinkpad Edge E530 (3632QM i7 quad core). The ultrabay first did not fit inside but I removed some plastic juts from it with a knife and drill . Now it fits in the slot, and the hard drive does seem to work when the machine is on. The only problem is that when you try to shut down the computer or reboot, it "thinks" for about 10 minutes before it actually shuts down the computer or reboots. I tried many things, I installed OS from scratch and it still does it. Immediately when I disconnect the ultrabay and put the machine on again the problem disappears. I tried changing various settings from BIOS but it does not help. I disabled rapidstart and removed the 16GB SSD, no change. OS is Win7-64bit. Any idea what could be causing this...? I think the most logical quess would be that something assumes that there is still an optical drive inside the computer even that there isn't and this causes the delay. Although I really don't understand how this could be as SATA is standard bus and you should be able to connect anything into it.   By the way the Ultrabay i bought  is made by Leicke:  BIOS version is the latest (was it 2.08 or something...?)

Answer:Thinkpad Edge E530 + Ultrabay extra hard drive = 10minute freeze on reboot...?

OK, so I examined the issue more and it seems to be about power management. When I disable Intel Speedstep and  the setting below it (CPU Power Management was it...?), this problem disappears. I also noticed that the same delay is when I try to get the computer to sleep. Of course it is not really good idea to use a laptop without these settings being on so another solution must be found. I guess there must be BIOS support for a hard drive in the DVD-bay in order for it to work with power management enabled. The question is that 1. should there be such a support...? 2. if there isn't will there be with a BIOS update...? Btw.. I tested with 2 hard drives with both the same issue.   If it becomes clear that there is no way to get a hard drive to work in DVD-bay with power management on, can you make such configuration that you buy 256GB msata SSD, install OS into it, and have a hard drive in the normal HD-bay...? Or would the machine go crazy when it tries to search for a non-existing rapidstart partition from msata...?

since they give you the option of changing the responsiveness, i'm guessing this doesn't matter? or does it?

Hi, apparently I have some suspicious stuff on my computer. Like the title says, I have the Google (EDIT: and other search engines) redirection to ads problem in Firefox. On top of this, though, Chrome is unresponsive on startup (the "kill pages" box comes up, but isn't able to do anything). Also, every so often Windows will say that some host process has become unresponsive and will stop it. I ran Malwarebytes Anti-malware, and it was able to fix about 15 problems, but the issues all still persist.

Could anyone give me a hand? Thanks!
EDIT: I'm on Vista Home Premium sp2

I ve mentioned it in other post before, this is my 2nd Dead-On-Arrival replacement units (total 3 laptops). Though the PC-Doctor is showing there is no hardware problem with the current machine, its still NOT FUNCTIONAL!!
Two big issues:
1) Edge 11 randomly reboot by itself. This is crazy, there is absolutley no pattern whatsoever, just out of sudden the laptop shut down by itself and reboots..all the time!
2) random screen freeze. I dont know if i should laugh or cry about this, when the Edge 11 doesnt reboot by itself, it often ended up with a screen freeze. When i say screen freeze, I meant absolutley nothing is responding other than the power button. Cant see the mouse cursor on the screen, no keys respond..nothing.

Since I bought the laptop in Nov10, 90% of the time its either in the service centre or in the wait to get replace, and the rare few days I have the laptop with me, IT DOESNT WORK!
Three Edge 11, Three broken piece of junks, please dont tell me this is coincidence.

Answer:Edge 11 random reboot and random screen freeze

Hello, Same happened to me with Thinkpad Edge bought in October 2010.  2 weeks of use gave 3 times complete breakdown, computer would just freeze will working on it.  I got my HDD changed yesterday, I hope problem is solved now. But service in service center was a joke.  My data is on the broken HDD and they dont want to give it to me for my to try to recover my data. I am wondering what steps we can take against Lenovo, because from the forum we can see that many users are facing the same problem. In any case, I am telling all my friends, family, colleagues not to buy Lenovo products ever.

I'm running Windows Vista on a Dell XPS410. When I close Internet Explorer or Microsoft Outlook, I often (but not always) get a message "Internet Explorer (or Microsoft Outlook) has stopped working" and then the program will reopen by itself. As Outlook reopens, I get a message that it was not closed properly and it's checking for errors, and lately I'm also asked if I want to reopen in Safe Mode. Occasionally I'll get a message that IE has stopped working even when I don't close it myself, and all pages will close.

Not sure if this is a related problem or not, but occasionally I have emails that stay in the outbox even after sending (and stay open on the monitor after I hit "send"), but they also show up in the Sent box, so it's difficult to know if they actually were sent. I believe (but I'm not sure) that it's only happening when they have multiple photos attached, so they are large emails and I'm sending them on a 28.8k dialup modem, if that makes any difference.

Thanks for any help!

I am using Windows 8 with IE10 and for some weird and wonderful reason, the "reopen last session" is greyed out. I saw on the Windows 7 forum that there was a download fix for that but didn't dare to take that on for Windows 8.
Any ideas as to a simple fix for this snag?

Answer:Reopen last session greyed out

Hello Gloosecap,

The Reopen Last Browsing Session option would only not be grayed out if there was an actual last session to reopen. If you cleared your browser history after closing IE10, then there will be nothing to reopen.

If that wasn't the case, then you could use OPTION ONE in the tutorial below to enable Reopen Last Browsing Session in IE10 to see if that may help.

I clicked the X when it asked if it should load previous session and all my IE8 tabs I had open before the crash was lost.
When I open up IE they doesn't reopen. I've tried "reopen last session" from the Tools menu but with no luck.

Seems like they still are stored in AppData\Local\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Recovery\Active (.dat files) but how do I make IE to open them?

Answer:Reopen lost tabs in IE8

There was a change from IE7 to IE8. Now when you reopen IE, you have to reopen the tabs from your "Favorites" bar. Another good reason to switch to FF.

Can anybody get me in contact with Acer? I want to reopen my support case because my laptop is starting to die again, even after they "fixed" it.
Because my warranty is supposedly a week out of date I am unable to get in contact with a single person from Acer to tell them to reopen [edited for privacy] because their support clearly did not solve the problem. I am experiencing the exact same problem that led to my needing to send in my laptop. It is worsening and probably going to lead to a huge nasty crash again.
And I have reason to believe that the cause is bad hardware that my Acer Aspire Nitro was shipped with, because THIS time, when I saw the BSODs, I looked them up. I've been receiving a "Kernel Data Inpage Error" which apparently means that my memory or my hard drive is faulty. (And yes, I did the recommended things on that page. Nothing has helped or identified a problem. At all.)
This issue SHOULD be covered under warranty, not only because it is an issue that started during the year of warranty, but ALSO because Acer claimed to have fixed the issue but DID NOT, and ALSO because their warranty clearly states "Acer warrants that its Products will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for the Limited Warranty Period" and my computer CLEARLY CAME WITH FAULTY HARDWARE.

Answer:I need to reopen an issue with acer

Hi lsilich04,
We have to have some date for the warranty to end, but we certainly aren't interested in leaving you out in the cold less than a week out. I was able to locate your information and the US service team updated the warranty through the end of the month. This will allow you to contact and setup services as needed.
In reading your post, I would have to disagree that a kernel error means a hardware error. The Kernel is part of the core of the Windows operating system and is completely software, when that crashes, it would result in the bluescreens and lockups. When your unit was in originally, I show that memory tests and hard drive tests were done, and a reload of the operating system corrected the issue. Now, after 3 months, you're starting to experience blue screens again, and I would suspect that some corruption has occured in the operating system. With all of this said, I would suggest attempting a recovery first, see how the system behaves. If there was a hardware error, it would also fail during the recovery process.

I just wrote a long post and it disappeared while trying to run that spell check on it. Very annoying.

Here, again, is my problem:

When I close IE 8 or 9 with several tabs open, and later reopen it, the option to reopen or restore the last browsing session is ALWAYS grayed out in both the menu under Tools and on the New Tab pages.

I had a nasty rootkit infection of volsnap.sys that was mostly affecting IE, which was detected and removed by ComboFix with help from MajorGeeks, just a week or two ago.

Since it was always changing the mischief it did, mostly regarding IE, I suspect that "part of it" is still on my machine.

A MS support forum led me through several steps to try to fix this, including uninstalling and reinstalling IE 9. Then they gave up and said I had to reformat my HD and reinstall my OS. I suspect that wouldn't be enough...

I really depend on this function, and have used IE for many, many years, and don't want to switch browsers. Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance,

Answer:reopen last browsing session grayed out in IE

Reformatting and reinstalling your OS most definitely will get rid of any nasties present on your system. If you do a clean install, as suggested, I'll be your browser's behavior returns to normal.

I am in need of some assistance with my IE 10 browser, but the problem only happens while using the default MSN homepage.

After closing the web browser a number of times while on MSN, multiple browsers will suddenly reopen. I have noticed that when the browsers reopen, the url is a little different from the original. Here is an example of what some of the urls might look like below.

But when I change my default homepage to another search engine, such as google, yahoo, or bing, this problem does not occur. It only happens on the msn website.

Just today, I have discovered what is causing the browser to do this and it is the TrueSuiteService application that is part of the HP Simplepass program that is already pre-installed on my laptop. When disabled, the problem no longer occurs. However; when it is enabled, the problem will reoccur after a certain amount of times opening and closing the browser.

Here is a screenshot of the application disabled below.

But, here are two screenshots of all the applications that are enable on startup.

Either way, I am unsure of which direction I should take to solve this matter completely. Please help me.

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi Sara welcome to Seven Forums,
I'm glad you took my advise in asking your question here,
Hopefully someone can help soon with your interesting problem, and loaded startup menu,
Multiple IE 10 Browsers Reopen After Closing Default Homepage (MSN - Microsoft Community

Quote from the other thread,
I followed the instructions within the clean boot about background applications and it worked. I discovered that the background TrueSuiteService application from HP in the services tab was what was causing the problem. After disabling it, I no longer had multiple browsers opening up. However, it still boggles my mind that how come it would be this application causing this issue? Also I notice that all the HP products are labeled "Hewlett-Packard Company" in the manufacturer status however; the disabled application is only labeled "HP" as the manufacturer? Could this possibly be a hidden virus on my computer? If so, how do I remove it? end of Quote

Hi- I will be very happy if someone can help me olve this mystery-

I'm using windows ME and IE 6.0- when i try to save a jpeg- the only file type that i can save it as- is a bitmap. If I try to open this "bitmap" that I have save to my disk- i get the "download file" dialog box that tells me that I am trying to download the file from my own hard drive- there is no way for me to open the file. Any ideas, anyone?

Thank You!

Answer:IE saves all pics as bitmaps and won't let me reopen them

Can't really help you out much.
But there is a way to save in other formats.
In the name box add the image type to the name.

Like this Mypicture.jpg.
On the box that says file type it does not matter what it says when you add the file type to the name.

Now I have 1000's of .jpg files and only 6 .jpeg files. Some image programs will not open the .jpeg so don't use it. Use the .jpg.

Where are you getting these images from?
Are you sure you saved them as a image file or did you save the link to the images?

I would think it's the OS and probably not your PC. I've been having more problems and glitches than ever after the recent updates, especially with Edge. Mind you, I can still get to them. Alt+Tab works, as does Super+Tab. It's just annoying to always have to go that way, especially as I'm using two monitors and have my taskbar on the one that makes it less obtrusive.
I can temporarily fix the problem by restarting, but it takes forever, and I just simple don't like having to restart. I will every once in a while, but again, it doesn't fix the problem. It just delays it.
The only potential cause I can figure out is when I do have to close chrome, I tend to do it by ending the task. This ensures I can recover my tabs that I had open. I don't know if this is the cause, but it's the only thing that seems potentially related, simply due to it being done in relative close proximity to the problem showing up.
I've tried restarting the desktop management system (DWM), changing themes, disabling and reenabling grouping. Nothing is fixing it.
Again, I can get by without it... it's just a major annoyance, and a block to productivity.
Also, if it's a single window, clicking on the task bar icon opens the windows. Once it's a group, then I'm screwed.

I am a network admin deploying Windows Server 2008r2 with Internet Explorer 9 as terminal servers, I am having trouble with an ActiveX element in one of our internal pages. The page requests the CAB file with three files being an INF, OCX &
a DLL.
Running the page as an Administrator. Opening the page for the first time, IE hangs as it gets the CAB file and then will present UAC to allow it to install the ActiveX as an Add On for IE. Each time you come to the page after it will work fine.
Running the page as a user, Every time the user access the page after logging on IE hangs and then will put a red cross in the ActiveX section of the page. If you then close and reopen IE it will then allow the ActiveX element of the page to work fine. The
issue is that the user would have to do this each time they logged on.

Why does the page not work first time the users access the page?

I'm running Word 2000 under XP Home. Every time I retrieve a document from a folder or the Recently Used folder, I have to click on the page even if I do not want to alter the document in any way. Failure to remember to do this results in Word freezing and I have to close the programme through the Task Manager. Any solutions out there?

Answer:Word freezes when I try to to reopen a document

I got rid of the full (paid for) version because of things like this. It was frought with issues after updates and eventually I just had enough, and told them so.If it's going to continue with the free version (which I now use)then that will go as well. Thanks I will see what happens tonight.

I have Windows 8.1 using IE11 and I am unable to reopen browsing history. It is always gray shaded. It doesn't matter how I close it or if I reboot. If I close IE and reboot, it's gray shaded. If I don't close every tab - just leave them all open and close IE - then open IE again without restarting, it is gray shaded.

I seen some other posts about this that aren't quite the same problem (and/or haven't been resolved) and someone mentioned that it's gray shaded because there is no browsing history to reopen. Trust me, there is. I don't delete my browsing history after each session. Besides, everything is in my history folder - my browsing history is just fine. I just can't reopen previous sessions.

I have not been able to find help anywhere so I thought I'd finally ask.

I just downloaded internet explorer 9. Previously, I was using IE8. Every day, when ie8 would open up (it would load automatically at startup from AOL IM), I would go to Tools -> Reopen last browsing session, and all the tabs and pages I had open when I closed my previous session would load (though in reverse order left to right, annoyingly).

Now that I'm running IE9, when I go to Tools -> Reopen last browsing session, the option is greyed out - it does not work. The only time it works is if I close IE9 and then reopen the browser without rebooting. If I reboot, which I do every day, the option is not available like it used to be in IE8. (Seems like every time I download an updated version of anything anymore, something inevitably stops working or is worse than it was before - this soooo tiresome.)

I've tried a regedit I found somewhere on these forums - setting for 'turn off reopen last browsing session' to 'disable'. Didn't work.

I do not have IE9 set to delete my browsing history on exit.

I have the box checked for Automatically recover from page layout errors with compatibility view.

So, currently I'm out of ideas - can't find anything else.

I would really appreciate it if anyone who knows what is going on with this could share.

Answer:IE9 Reopen Last Browsing Session option is not working

So does anyone else have this problem? Since the Reopen Last Browsing Session is kind of a deal breaker, I would have thought that there'd be a fix by now. But maybe the fix is to uninstall IE9 afterall. So much for IE9. Firefox and Chrome do this anyway, correctly, even WITHOUT having to select an option. I'd skip IE altogether if I didn't need it for work.

Answer:A problem with this web page caused IE to close and reopen

You could try IE Reset, "IE > Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Reset button". You lose your add-ons but they soon come back with usage. Your favorites etc are retained. Is this only on one webpage? If so give us the link in case that tells us something. If you have an alternative browser does it happen on there too?I suppose malware is a vague possibility but it doesn't obviously fit the symptoms.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

I have a Dell LatitudeD400 with Windows XP. Whenever I close my laptop to do something for a short time (with it still being on)- and reopen it- is flashes a blue screen for short time (short enough that I cant see what it says) - and then it restarts. The computer works fine and it has been doing this since I got it two years ago.

If I go to Standby manually, by going to start->shut down computer->standby it works fine. I just have to leave the lid open the whole time and when I press the power button, type my password, and all is well. No idea what is going on...

Answer:[SOLVED] Laptop restarts (bluescreen) when I reopen it

Download and run this application: BSOD_XP_v1.3_jcgriff2_PROD.exe.
Once it has finished running zip the folder TSF_XP_Support which can be found in your Documents folder.
Attach the zipped file to your next post.

For example, if I use the show desktop button on bottom right of taskbar, it minimizes all windows. If I then open up one window, normally just that window opens, however if there was a fullscreen/borderless windowed application running as well, it will also restore that window. Any way to prevent this?

i often find myself closing a web page, then a little later that same session reopening it. Then, as i mainly rely on tethering my phone to my PC for internet, and have only a 2 GB data plan (which is all i can afford), i get concerned about whether each re-opening of a same page doubles its data consumption. (I searched the internet for any answers but could not find any. And the whole world of internet logistics is hopelessly baffling for me to attempt, though i spend countless hours trying!))

Thanks so much for any answers!

This would be the new behavior in the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.

Hey everyone,

I'm a college kid who has been having major issues with my laptop, I'm desperate for some help.

The problems:
My Wifi cuts out at random, and after that my laptop won't reconnect- or connect to any wifi- until I either close the lid, wait for the green light to go off, then reopen, or I restart. This always temporarily fixes the problem. (This actually happened when I first tried to submit this post, so I have to retype the whole thing . This happens within anywhere from 10 minutes to a few hours from when I reconnect to wifi, and it seems to be somewhat correlated to me opening new tabs (or submitting a new post ). I don't use my laptop for anything other than casual browsing and school work, so I don't have any weird programs that might cause this. No single event started this, but it's been happening for months. I'd really appreciate any help.

I am uusing Internet Explorer 11 with Windows 7 Ultimate and have been getting the error message: "A problem with this webpage caused Internet Explorer to close and reopen the tab." on a variety of websites. At the suggestion of some troubleshooting sites I have uninstalled Silverlight and reinstalled it --- this seems to make a temporary fix, but in a couple of days the problem returns. The problem seems to reside in Internet Explorer, since it does not occur with I use Firefox. Anyway, the error slows down my computer when using the web.

hi does anyone have a solution to windows live mail refusing to reopen after being closed by clicking on the red x that method does not close the program it is still running in the task manager, and the only way to start is to go to the task manager and close it.any solution folks, i found that if you close it from the icon on the task bar

Answer:Windows live mail wont reopen a second tine

*Taken from click here It generally occurs when the send option "Upload Larger Images to the Web When Sending a Photo E-mail" is *un-checked*, but it does not usually manifest until a new compose window, or a saved draft has been opened. This option is available only when you are signed in, but if it is un-checked it still causes the shutdown bug even when not signed in. So make sure the option "Upload Larger Images to the Web When Sending a Photo E-mail" is *checked* at: Tools->Options->Send [tab] (available only when signed into Windows Live through WLMail). However, if you do find that "Upload Larger Images to the Web When Sending a Photo E-mail" is actually checked (which it is by default), then just uncheck it and click "Apply", then check it again and click "Apply" again. Some have had to do that to fix their WLMail shut down bug that was occurring despite that option having never been unchecked.

I have a Gateway Laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack One. It is a 64 bit operating system. 1.7GHZ Processor. 8.00 GB RAM. I have been using Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 on a Gateway Computer with Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 and 64 bit.
Recently when I loaded the program it would turn on then shut down and I get this message "A Problem with this webpage caused Internet Explorer to close and reopen the tab." I have no control over the page, it keeps opening and closing. The only to stop it s to go to Task Manager and end the program several times.
Any Suggestions on a fix for this problem. It does not matter which page it tries to open. I can only change pages by going the Change Home Page inthe control Panel when IE 11 is not running.

Answer:A Problem with this webpage caused Internet Explorer to close and reopen the tab

Open Internet Explorer in Safe Mode without Addons. Browse some sites. If you find that you do not now face any problems, it means that one of your IE add-ons is creating a problem.
Use the IE Addon manager to disable the add-ons one after the other and try to find the offender. To manage browser add-ons in Internet Explorer, open IE and press Alt+X to open Tools. Here you will see Manage add-ons. Click on it Once you have identified it disable ot remove the addon. Details - Manage Browser add ons..
Run AdwCleaner to see if you have any malicious add-ons installed.
If nothing workw, you may need to Reset Internet Explorer settings to default.
