Office 365 subscription question? is Office 2016 better?

Question: Office 365 subscription question? is Office 2016 better?

I bought my Office 365 for cheap in college. It is registered to me under a college email that I no longer can access.
(this is a problem because I used that account to sign up for Bing Ads and the customer support is always messing with me to prove it is my account, hard to do when you cannot access the old email, it is a pain in the rear)
Anyway, if I buy 365 again and register it under a new email, will I lose access to all the storage I have in my school account, or will that remain. Can the accounts be synced? (the on-screen prompts imply they can be synced, but I don't trust MS enough to not verify that this is true)

I assume if I just renew it under the now-defunct email address nothing will change. Except I will be out $69 for a 1 year subscription.

What if I just buy Office 2016 for $71 and keep it for several years.
(if these guys are for real, https://www.istarsoftware.com/112-microsoft-office-2016)

Is there a difference for my purposes? I use MS Word, Excel and Outlook daily.
But I use them at the novice to lower average level user level.

Do you think Office 2016, that will last for several years and is cheaper, will be OK?

I use Outlook to access various emails and I do some very simple spread sheet manipulations with Excel.

To be honest, if it weren't for Outlook I would probably not buy it at all. I like the email client. Otherwise Open Office (I think it is called) is more than sufficient I would think.

Edit:
If I buy Office 2016 and install it over Office 365 will it keep all my email accounts information (smtp, port, etc) or am I going to need to set all of them up again.

Preferred Solution: Office 365 subscription question? is Office 2016 better?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there

It looks like that a Student and Teacher edition of Office 2016 will be available at around 90 GBP - 105 EUR while an Office 365 subscription will be around 60 GBP - 73 EUR for 1 year. Since the Student edition will work on 3 machines it seems to me the subscription model is bad value compared with Office 2016.

Now there might be a caveat -- not sure if OUTLOOK 2016 is included with Student and Teacher --we'll have to wait and see.

There *Might* also be an Upgrade price from Office 2010 / 2013 too.

Hi there

will office 2016 be available as a stand alone (non subscription) product for non corporate users. If I follow my link to Buy Now from the trial preview it only offers me Office 365 or Office 2013.

I'm NOT interested in subscription software or Office 2013.

I suppose then back to Office 2010 !!!!. - I'll see if Office 2016 appears within the next few days --still have 70 days left on the trial preview.

Jimbo, it's early yet and I can't see 2016 on any Microsoft sites, I'd expect it to start showing mid morning US west coast time.

I've been using MS Office 2016 in it's subscription/365 form for a while like I said but before subscription packages I used physical copies of Office and with those, had a different MS account -- so as it stands now I have two MS accounts and it's actually pretty annoying. Anyway, I've been thinking about trying to get Microsoft Office Certified, so when I dug up my old copy of Office 2010 Home and Student, I decided to to install it, naively thinking nothing of potential complications resulting from two different versions being installed in the same machine, and the installation actually gave no indication that there would be any issues. However, soon after the installation finished, I noticed that every Office Document, be it Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, was appearing as, and opening as, an Office 2010 document.

I thought that was really strange but figured it would be an easy fix and that, for some reason, the default programs had just reverted to their 2010 versions, so I tried right clicking one of them, opening it correctly with Office 2016 but to my surprise, not only was '16 not one of the immediate options I was given, when I did finally track the 2016 program all the way back to it's original installation location, it did not allow me to open the file with it. I then did the next logical thing and tried switching the default executable program for MS Office files back to the 2016 version by going Control Panel > Programs but that didn't work either.

Answer:Anyone know about installing Office '10 on a comp w/a 365 2016 subscription?

Having multiple versions of Office installed on a computer isn't a problem, but you:
a) should always install the older version first (which you didn't); and
b) cannot have both a subscription version and a stand-alone version on the same PC (which is what you have tried to do).
Therefore, you will now need to uninstall one version and, possibly, repair the other.

I noticed an issue when saving Word docx files on Office 2016. It's slow, I see a progress bar at the bottom right when it saves and it takes about 30 seconds to save. Okay it's large file with a couple hundred pages and a few hundred kb in size but surely it shouldn't take this long? If I save files on older 97-2003 doc format the saves are more or less instant. It's worth noting that opening the docx file up is instantaneous, no lag. As a test I created another docx file a couple hundred pages large and just filled it with gobbledegook. The same issue when I saved it! I tried switching to my wife's user account to test further and same issue, so it's not user account specific. It may also be worth noting that although it's 365 I default my save location to be local.

Now a caveat, this happens only on manual saves within word. If I finish editing and close word it prompts me to save on exit. The file will then save in a milli second!!!

I tried the same docx file on my older (much weaker) laptop and saved it locally and it saves it much quicker (1 sec approx.). The older laptop runs Office 2010.

Is this a common problem? Maybe I have a setting in office causing this but I wouldn't know what to start on. There's nothing obvious and the setup of Word that I have is pretty much default. I am not noticing same issue on other office applications such as excel. It seems to specifically relate to docx files!

EDIT looks to be a big issue, see http://answers.microsoft.com... Read more

Are there any differences between office 365 home and office 2016 pro when you compared their installations of word, excel, power point and publisher?
For example, is Word from O365 the same as Word in Office 2016? Or does one have more options/features than the other?

We currently use Office 2007 and Office 2010 on our about 20 workstations. I'm looking to move to MS office 365 for hosted exchange. I found out that as of the first of this year, Microsoft no longer support Outlook 2007 or 2010 for hosted exchange. It seems to be working just fine so far at another site I'm involved with. The issue is that if you ever contact support, they will blame the version of Outlook you're on. So, I'm looking at options for upgrading.

Do you guys that are on office 365 for email using the premium version that includes the office subscription or buy Office 2016?

For the most part, we just need outlook, word and excel. We do have 6 people that will need powerpoint also.

Just looking for a recommendation from you guys on what makes the most sense.

Thanks!

Hi Folks,

The title of the thread says it all really.

I have legitimate copy of Microsoft Office 2007 Ultimate on my PC. I have just bought a copy of Office 2016 Professional Plus through the HUP.

I haven't installed Office 2016 yet - I use Office 2010 at work and find using Custom Animations in PowerPoint tricky compared to Office 2007.

I'd like to install Office 2016 alongside Office 2007 until I have tried Office 2016 to see if the Custom Animations in PP are easier than the 2010 version before switching completely.

My question is, can I install Office 2016 alongside Office 2007 without conflicts - switching between versions without a problem or will installing Office 2016 screw Office 2007 or worse FUBAR both Office installations or my PC.

Any help gratefully received.

Cheers,

Zaph

Hi,

Before installing Office 365 (office 2016) and onedrive, my username to logon to my laptop, was "AJ ANNING" and a specific pAasswAord. Now my username does not show up at logon. "JAMES ANNING" is what shows up, and the username is now my email "[email protected]" and the password is different. Going to user accounts in control panel the only user is "[email protected]". The user "AJ ANNING" is not there.
Also, I can no longer access 3 of my network drives.
Please advise,

Answer:Installing office 365 (office 2016) and onedrive, PC username replaced

So even though "the password is different" you are still able to log onto the computer? I installed Office 365 on a new Notebook on Thursday and none of the log-in for the computer changed. As for the Networked drives, you may need to use File Explorer to Disconnect the drives then Map them again [I've had to a couple of times in the past].

The issue is specific to Office 2016 on Win 10 (Office 2016 on Win 7, no problem, Office 2010 on Win 10, no problem). Certain documents (reported by a user who receives documents with Japanese text, haven't seen it happen with others) have the layout messed up, a 2 page Word doc gets spread over 4 pages, and I've been given some sample powerpoint slides which have text overflowing the end of the slide.

Word doc was originally in Legacy 2003 format, I did manage to make this particular document display correctly by saving it in .docx format, then enabling compatibility changes via vba, setting to 2010 compatibility and enabling "Use printer metrics to lay out document" based on what I read here: BUG!! Word 2016 fails to print margins correctly / messes - Microsoft Community

The other sample file I received was a .pptx - haven't been able to find corresponding compatibility options in Powerpoint.

Wouldn't be quite so annoying if they didn't both display perfectly in Windows 7.

Answer:Office Document layout/margins overflow on Office 2016 + Win 10

Turns out it was some sort of font substitution issue. I noticed the fonts in Word/Powerpoint weren't present in the Windows font dir. Copied them over from another Win 7 machine, suddenly everything looks fine.

Not sure why Office 2010 did a better job of it than 2016, I couldn't really pick if there was a difference in the Japanese characters before and after the font, only that the page layout was stuffed...

Office 2016 Installation Routine Deleting Older Stand-alone Apps

I can't say I wasn't warned. I was part way through installing Microsoft Office 2016 on my primary workstation when I got a message that said, "Stop, you should wait to install Office 2016." The error message went on to say that if I decided to continue anyway, my copy of Microsoft Visio Standard 2013 would be removed. Since I had the original disk from when I purchased the software, I went ahead. Bad move. It turns out that when Microsoft says that Visio 2013 won't work with Office 2016, it means it won't even have the chance to work. Any attempt to reinstall the software will be thwarted. The fact that you paid for the software is beside the point. You're basically out of luck. When I went to the Microsoft community forums, which is where Microsoft handles much of its tech support, I discovered that I wasn't alone. Apparently hundreds of people who'd purchased stand-alone Microsoft Office products were affected, and they weren't happy about it.

Furthermore, the problem extended far beyond Visio. Users with Microsoft Project, Publisher, Access, InfoPath and SharePoint Designer were also affected. Likewise, Microsoft customers who purchased Office Apps that are normally part of Office suites but may have been purchased separately, such as Outlook 2013, were also affected.

If you wish to carry out a a complete repair of your Office 2016 or Office 365 installation on your Windows 10 PC, you can choose to undertake an Online Repair.
Quick Repair runs faster but only detects and replaces corrupted files. Online Repair takes longer, but does an uninstall and a complete repair.
To carry out an Online Repair, open Control Panel > Programs & Features. Here right-click on Office installation and select Change. You will see the following box.
Select Online Repair and let setup do its work. This post offers additional options on how to Repair Office & Uninstall individual Microsoft Office programs, along with help of switches.

Since upgrading my main desktop to Windows 10, I began having trouble with my Office 2013 installation. I would get the "swirling circle" and the "application has stopped responding" error messages very frequently. I was able to buy the Office 2016 suite for $10 through my employer (Microsoft HUP) and since upgrading the application, I have not seen the error. Of course, I've only had Office 2016 on my PC for one day, so I'll keep checking to see if the problem returns. Has anyone else had issues with Office 2013 and Win10? Thanks!

Answer:Office 2013 issues, upgraded to Office 2016...

In fact Office is working nicely for me in Windows 10. I had PCs with Office 2007 and even with the old Office 2003 and I have not yet had complaints about crashes.

Microsoft offers a FixIt tool, which allows you to do a clean uninstall of the Office 2013 files so that you can afterwards create a clean Office installation again. As an additional ressort, there even is a description of how to manually uninstall Office 2013. I did not have to test it, but that might have helped you as well.

Hi there

I think this comment is allowed - there is an NDA but I think this is OK. The latest update installs OFFICE 2016 just fine and works OK. Office 2010 is left untouched so you can run BOTH concurrently.

OUTLOOK 2016 though uses the same data file as Outlook 2010 so SEND from outlook 2010 hoses up with "Cant access Outlook data file".

However once you've sent the email with Outlook 2016 you can see it in the SENT folder of both Outlook 2010 and 2016 so using Outlook 2016 during the preview won't cause carnage to your existing office outlook.

So far very impressed -- FORGET OFFICE 2013 completely. 2016 is STREETS better and you can get rid of that hideous over white theme too. NDA so can't post image.

Note I'm using x-64 for both Office 2010 and 2016.

If you want to try the Links were open this morning -- this could have been an error because they might close again soon.
So far so good -- note some people get activation message unless they have Office 365 subscription --I don't have and didn't seem to get that message.

Am using Windows 10 x-64 Enterprise as the OS I'm testing this on --running on a REAL machine, build 9926.

Cheers

My main issue is being able to preserve all the accounts and settings in Outlook

No.

While possible it is not recommended to install multiple versions of Office on the same computer. But they both must be the same bits. The only way this could be done is to install one on a virtual machine.

I understand that if a user installs Open Office on a machine with conventional Office 97-2003 that Open Office will use its own suite of products for each application. (Unless the user ops to use Office to open the applications by unchecking the corresponding application boxes during Open Office's installation.) But if a user chooses Open Office as the default for applications on a system that also has Office 2007 on it, how does Open Office deal with this if the OO applications remain checked as the default?

Does the current version of OO even understand how to DEAL with the new Office 2007? I understand that OO can not read docx documents, which is the default for Word 2007, (although this can be easily changed back to doc.) I found out that Open Office 3.0, scheduled for release this fall, will be able to read docx documents. What's so great about docx docs anyway?

Using my example, assume this situation on a new Windows Vista machine. (fresh installs of each program or Office 2007 OEM (factory installed.) What behavior would be expected here?

OK boys can you help me out here. I've received the email today about the renewal for my subscription to Office 365. We can't afford it especially as we only really use Excel with the occasional use of Word, although I use OneNote quite a bit.

When I took it out I got a half price offer, I have Office Home and Student 2007 on this Asus Notebook. On hubby's desktop and laptop plus my desktop we have Office Home and Student 2010. We didn't uninstall any of them when we upgraded so will that mean it will revert back to those copies and are they OK on Windows 10 ?

I'm hoping that is what will happen when I go and cancel the subscription, can anyone put my mind at rest about this, thanks ?

Planning to buy 2 windows tablets one for my father and another for me.I was informed that you get office 365 free for one year for both the tablets(Lenovo, dell). So will I get 2 years of office 365 or just one year when I validate windows using my MS account(will be a few days gap for activating one after the other).

Answer:[HELP] Office 365 subscription?

I year each device... If you activate for Tablet #1 on your Microsoft Account you can share that with (I think) up to 4 more devices.
Would your father not have his own Microsoft Account? He could activate on Tablet #2 and share the 365 subscription with his PC/Laptop or whatever...
What would probably happen otherwise is the unused one will expire if not activated in a certain amount of time after purchase.

Answer:Office 365 subscription

I am complaining as it should be 12 months subscription but the expiry date is 1st June 2016. I am based in the UK, part of the deal was Office 365 package for 12 months.

But then there are a few girls here too.

Office 2010 works just fine on Win10. Some folks have success with even older versions at least for the basics [I have Office 2000 on the Insider Preview of Win10]. If there are problems a quite nice Free program exists, LibreOffice.org. It is compatible with Office file formats except it doesn't have something to replace Outlook or Publisher.

I have a new pc. Dell Inspiron 3650
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700 CPU @ 3.40GHz 3.41 GHz
16.0 GB (RAM)
64-Bit Op. Sys. x64 based processor
I installed the office pro plus 2016 with a key from seller.
It installed fine on 12 7 16 then today 12 8 16 none of the office programs will open.
The home and Student 2016 also does the same thing. I installed the pro and the home and student does the same thing.
The pc came with Win10 home I purchased from Dell Win10 pro. I called Dell support and they helped me to install pro from the usb.
One thing I never activated the home and student before downloading the purchased office pro. the office pro key worked so I didn't think I needed it.
After all the trouble with the pro I uninstalled pro and tried to use the home and student. the product key worked on it also. but the same thing happens
I get the error box
Microsoft Word has stopped working
windows is checking for a solution to the problem
then it changes to
Microsoft Word has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
needless to say I have heard nothing.
Does anyone out there have any suggestions?
Thank you.
Dell user since my first 266.

Hi there!

Well, after reseting the PC to factory settings and reinstalled my drivers, I'm encountering a nasty problem... I?m just unable to install office 2016 in Windows 10, just when it's about to finish, stops, reverts all and says there was an error installing the suite...

I could install this in build 1511, no problems, but here this happens... I tried compatibility modes, using the office cleaning tool, but no avail, I even have all the VC runtimes installed... I'm tryinto install 64 bit version.

Please guys, any advice on this? I really need office for doing my job!

Thanks in advance

Answer:Unable to install Office 2016 Professional Plus 2016 in W10 1607

Try installing 32bit option - you really do not need 64bit unless doing some mega powerful stuff.

According to all sources that I could find on-line, it appears that rules are part of pst file.

However, this does not happening in my case.

I use outlook 2016 (part of MS office 2016) and have several accounts linked with this ? From my ISP (POP), Hotmail, yahoo, Gmail. I have rules only for account from my ISP.

Recently I deleted my Hotmail account, removed it from my outlook, deleted associated ost file. Then I had second thought and re-activated this hotmal account the following day. Added this to my outlook. To my surprise all rules vanished. Not a single rule remained. I did NOT have any rules setup for Hotmail account. Even column details for message folders (part of setting) got changed.

I decided to check further. Copied my pst files to another computer which had same version of outlook installed and has exactly the same setup.

Now I added some rules on my 1st computer. Checked the 2nd computer. The same rule appeared there. That means pst file does not contain rules.

So, Where are they?

Hope someone can help me. I am lost!!
Thanks

Iam thinkig of buying a small notebook running Windows as I require that operating system to edit a particular website. I presently use MS Office 2013 and need Word, Excel and Publisher. I understand that I cannot transfer this from my present laptop to a notebook.
Can one actually purchase this outright or is MS now forcing us to buy via 365 on amonthly or yearly subscription?

Answer:Microsoft Office without subscription?

Looks as though Office 365 is an annual subscription, but Office 2013 is a once-only payment.
An example here.

Hi,

One member of my family who has office 365 Personal subscription on her laptop. She's the first one to try out the office 365. Later, I bought a office 365 home subscription for more than one users. And I was thinking of bringing her across from personal to our office 365 home version when her personal subscription is expired.

Today, she noticed that her personal subscription will come to an end next week. Is there any easier way of adding her to our home office apart from having to uninstall all her office Apps from her laptop and then go to office setup and reinstall office when logged into with our office 365 home account.

Thank you very much in advance

Answer:Change Office 365 subscription

I would think that you would need to add her as a user to your account first, and then have her log in to one of her Office apps on her laptop with the new account information.

Last semester I downloaded this for a class. It ran out, and I went to the control panel to remove it. The office 2007 uninstaller came up, and when it was done, there was a message box saying it was not completely uninstalled. If offered no further instructions, nor did it say which part was not uninstalled. I'm running a search, and it's not finding those so that I can uninstall manually. I specifically ran a search for the MS Office Pic Manager, nothing. But a search of anything about Office 2007 returns nothing.
Now, I get a camera, up load my pictures and GUESS WHAT they show up in Microsoft Office 2007 Picture Manager. Now, each picture will ONLY OPEN in this viewer, which has all features disabled since the subscription ran out. I don't want my pics to open there! grrrr.
So, whatdya think? (oh, xpsp3)
Thanks, Sharon

I've just bought Office 365 for up to 5 devices but I didn't realise it wasn't permanent and I have to pay to renew after 1 year. Packaging is opened so I can't return it.
I only need to install it on 2 laptops so I thought it'd be cheaper to get the multiple version which covers 5 devices.
My question is: once this subscription and product key runs out in 1 year on my laptops, can I simply use 2 of the 3 remaining subscriptions?

Answer:Office 365 1 year subscription

I would say no.

Hi there
judging by the latest advertising for Office 365 (subscription model - up to 5 PC's) and the restriction of Office 2013 being fixed to the ORIGINAL computer (i.e you can't move it when getting a new computer) I'd suspect that future Office products will now be only subscription models.

I don't like this idea and am not going down this route. I'll keep Office 2010 for as long as possible --and if Windows itself goes subscription only then Linux Mint or whatever -- Here I come. (Libre Office also seems to be improving -- but I'm quite a power user of EXCEL so it's not quite ready for prime time for me).

Cheers

I wonder how much money 2003 would have cost me if we had subscriptions for the past 10 years instead of a one time pruchase of the software? I think Microsoft contemplated this same question . . .

Why Microsoft has blocked some word app features for those who don't have an office 365 subscription? Already winddows 10 mobile has no advantage/not much to consider it as a switch from other mobile platforms. Now Microsoft is again putting restrictions on their Word app, such to create a new blank document , I need a office 365 subscription.
This feels like a S**t decision made by Microsoft. A platform which don't have any popularity already in the global smartphone market. These kind of bad decisions will bury the windows phone market itself in a period of time. I have been a windows user for more than 2.5 years, and I have spent almost all my terms with preview builds installed and the worst OS experience many times. I don't felt like , throwing away my windows phone previously, but now, How I feel like, throwing away to break my phone into pieces . I want to know about the suggestion of the people in this community, for this kind of MS decisions.

Answer:Microsoft has blocked some word app features for those who don't have an office 365 subscription?

The free included MS Office is the same as the free Office Online on a browser. It's supposed to be for people who don't have Office so they can read and edit Office Files. Besides, making Office files on phones are just plain painful & inefficient if you don't have keyboard.
To make new documents you can also open another doc, save as another name, and delete the previous document content.

Answer:How does office 365 support after 1 year usage of free subscription?

I just investigated this whole thing.
Office for Windows Mobile (devices under 10") can use the full function of Office Mobile for free. No subscription is required. You may need to uninstall and re-install the apps.
The 365 subscription for a year was to give you access to install it on PC and other devices. Not for use on Windows Mobile.
Hope that helps.

I've an almost new machine that I've installed Office 2007 Home & Student. On my previous machine I had Office 2000 premium installed. Since Home & Student is just Excel and Word I was wondering if I can install Access and Outlook from my old Office 2000 CDs to compliment my Home&Student? I rarely use access and would use outlook only for the calendar so this is low priority for me and I don't want to chance screwing up my Office 2007 for something I'd only use a few times a year unless I've some assurances that it would work. Does anyone have experience doing this or something similar?

On my husbands computer we are running Office pro 2010 on Windows 7.I would like to upgrade it to Office pro 2013. But in Outlook 2010 he has like 40 folders with subfolders full of emails. When i upgrade will Outlook 2013 grab all the settings, folders, emails and put them in correctly? I know office 2013 does not go onto of office 2010 because i did it on my own computer but i do not use outlook on mine, i use WLM so i do not remember what it did for outlook because i do not remember if i put an account in there after i installed it or not. I did mine months ago, call it a senior moment.

Does anyone here using Office 2013, did it as an upgrade and found all their settings, folders, emails, calendar and everything else get transferred into outlook 2013 correctly?

I do have a .pst backup just in case but sometimes when putting this back it messes up everything and i do not want to spend hours fixing it nor a divorce (lol) over this.

This Notebook came with Office 365 One Year Home Subscription as part of the bundle. The Subscription is for up to 5 PC for one year. I registered this notebook and I repeatedly tried to activate this on the Microsoft site following the instruction on the subscription card. The automated site said it was an invalid number. I made absolutely sure the product code was entered correctly. I contact a MS tech by chat and he verified it was a good product code but it was set up to be activated by HP. The MS tech suggested I contact HP which I did by Chat.
Here is the case number 3029147850.  Anand Kumar from HP Chat Support team had me download the free office 365 trail on the notebook. He claims that at the end of the one month trail I'll be able to activate the one year subscription with teh product code. I'm not sure this will work and it leaves me unable to download Office 365 on my other 3 computers because they have an olde version of Office and all they want to do is an upgrade.
So what is going on here how am I to be able to download and activate Office 365 properly?

[personal information removed] Product No. N5R26UA#ABA
I hope someone can help me with this issue.

Installed on my PC I have an old copy of Microsoft Office 2000. I use Word for my documents and made a spreadsheet on Excel for a game I play, other than that I have I have no knowledge of using the other features of this suite such as Access, Outlook or Powerpoint.

While downloading the latest Java update I noticed an ad for a freeware program called OpenOffice.org and after Googling it found that as far as I can see it is the same sort of thing as the Office 2000 suite only newer and probably more modern.

My question is, would the Open Office.org program be better than my outdated Office 2000 Suite and would I still be able to read my word documents etc using this program or would I have to keep Office 2000 as well.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice offered.

With my continuing efforts to assist my brother in tailoring his new ThinkPad (X1 Yoga) laptop, I've recently discovered an unexpected problem relating to Microsoft Office, and specifically (at this point), with Word. As indicated in this post's title, his laptop came with Office 2016? pre-installed. Subsequently, Office 2010? was installed by his I/T staff to eliminate the extra expense of leasing (via Office 365) or purchasing/activating the resident Office 2016 code. But Windows seems determined to make using Office 2010 unnecessarily difficult.

Specifically, regarding Word 2010, with .docx associated with this 2010 version, whenever one clicks on a .docx document, Windows pops up a message stating something like ? this is a rough paraphrase; I can't recall the exact wording ? "This application cannot run on your PC. Please go to the Microsoft store to find an application that will work with this file." However, .docx files open easily from within Word 2010.

Being curious, I'm all for understanding the how's, why's and wherefor's of this seeming impediment, but I don't want to unduly burden any readers/respondents with an explanation. I'd be happy just to learn how to correct this situation; i.e., to be able to click on a .docx file and have it open within Word 2010.

Perhaps it's necessary to uninstall Office 2016. It might be preferable to find another solution, in the event my brother may (at some point) want to go ahead and start using Office 2016. ... Read more

Answer:Pre-Installed Office 2016 "Fighting With" Post-Installed Office 2010

Is the Office 2010 32 bit, like most PCs at that time ? Office 2016 and Office 2010 can run side-by-side only if the bit versions match; ie, both 32 or 64 bit.

Also, if you open a 2010 Word in 2016 Word, there should be a 'compatibility mode' in the document title bar to preserve the layout.

First time post here, hope I follow all the rules.

Looking to acquire MS Office 2016 Professional. I have 4 computers, 3 tablets, 3 phones in the house. I have read different things about buying the software vs subscribing in terms of how many devices the software could be installed on. 2 computers use Windows 7, 1 uses Windows 8.1 and 1 uses Windows 10. Seeking advice/referrals on the best/most cost effective way to get MS Office on at least all the computers. All computers currently use MS Office 2007. Thanks.

Answer:Best way to get Office 2016

i would subscribe to put a standalone version of office on all those machines would be expensive

Assuming and average price of 120 for Office Home & Student
4 computers = 480 and does not include a tablet at that price

the subscription service at 80 per year and you can add to PCs and tablets upto 5 devices - so thats 6years to get a saving - And you are likely to change machines in that time

Also with the subscription you get the FULL version and all products (outlook, publisher - which would cost 250 )

unless you can find a multi-license version to run on 3 or more PCs
then the subscription maybe the way to go.

I have Office 2003 and tried downloading and running 2016. It did the download as expected and put icons down in the task bar. When I clicked on the Excel tab, it said it would activate it if I put in my email address and phone number. The alternative was to enter the Product Key. Everything acted, again, as if all was well and then it said it had stopped running and I should shut it down. Repeated tries gave me the same results. Trying any other component (Word, Powerpoint, etc.) also caused an immediate crash. FWIW, my first attempts to use it were to bring up previous files made in the 2003 version. This install was done through a web site and was part of a group offer. Any thoughts? Was I supposed to uninstall the 2003 version first? There weren't any instructions.
I uninstalled it for now.

Answer:What's new in Microsoft Office 2016?

I found some eye-catchy features on Microsoft 2016. Please, have a look on these features:
1. The traditional PowerPoint metamorphoses into multifunctional storytelling data presentation.
2. One Drive integration on cloud storage file hosting service and it support easy access of office document from anywhere and any device.
3. More than one user can work simultaneously on word and PowerPoint.
4. And, this one is more impressive feature i.e inbuilt security feature to protect data

Rant first, tips below.Bought a 310-15ABR for my daughter and paid for Office 2016 Student & Home (not worthless 365) with the idea that since it's a full Office 2016, others could use machine. We created a MS account for her when initializing Win 10 and she created password.Days later, when she first tried to use Word, she was prompted for an Activation Key.While annoying for something that should have been 'activated' when I bought it, sounds simple enough. Where's the card with Product Key or instructions to get it ?After searching everywhere for card or something with key, gave up and called Lenovo Support. Big mistake.Support language barrier is daunting. Have to phonetically spell out everything - "Three One Zero Dash One Five Alpha Baker Romeo..." - and then listen to them repeat it back.Support did a LetMeIn/Rescue123 remote control install which installed itself as a hidden Win Service. Then proceeded to fumble around for an hour (mouse around, [Run], type chars, bksp over some chars, retype, close [Run], mouse around, launch MSPaint (?!), close Paint, talk to colleague, [Run], type chars, bksp over chars, repeat....).They finally installed what appeared to be a couple of MS updates and then WITHOUT WARNING (they were silent on phone) rebooted machine. Great. Daughter no longer around to log back in.Luckily I had created an additional local user Admin login and could get back in.Despite my pleas that we were no longer logged in as the primary user, Support had ... thank you.

Answer:cannot see microsoft office 2016

Hi geordiejohn. Welcome to the TenForums @geordiejohn

When you say you installed it, did you get a retail version from a store with a license card, did download from MS and install or did you get Office 365 from MS?

Depending on the version of windows 10 you are on, V1607, Control Panel, Programs, or V1703, Settings, Apps are the various programs listed? (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)

Curious if anyone else has seen this; Google, so far, hasn't been any help. I've repaired Office, this still crops up occasionally. When it does, there is nothing you can do, save close the file. If you try to save it, even your options for saving it are missing.

Image below. Basically, all icons on the main tool bar and the quicklaunch toolbar are missing. If you mouse over them, they will not reappear, but if you click on something up there, it will take effect. Problem is, you can't see what you are clicking on. I can't recreate it, and I can't narrow down what causes it; it's been random with about 4 people here, myself included. When I re-opened the file I was working on when this happened, it was fine, and the problem did not re-occur.

Thanks,

v

Had I not experienced this myself, I would not believe it.

I upgraded my monitor from 23" 1080p to 27" 1440p, and Office can't handle it. Corrupted toolbars and random vertical black bars all over text in Outlook, Word, and Excel. I don't know if it's an issue with previous Windows versions but apparently it's been a known issue with Office 2016 on Windows 10 ever since it was released.

Funnily enough, Office 2016 on macOS does not suffer from these issues.

I am thoroughly unimpressed with Redmond for this. 1440p isn't bleeding edge technology.

Has anyone come across this issue and found a workaround that does not involve changing desktop resolution?

I downloaded the office pro 2016 program to my computer. This included outlook 2016 within the program. When I have gone to configure my email account in outlook the account did not show up under account settings - email but the program has set up 3 separate data files. Can you advise how do I delete these data files as they are not required.

If I'm not in the right forum please let me know. I have an HP Stream notebook 8.1. I got it not knowing that there wasn't much room on the harddrive. I have Onedrive cloud service through Microsoft office 2016/365. I don't use any of the Microsoft office progams, except for word and onedrive. I was wondering if there was a way to individually uninstall the programs I don't use or move all of it to onedrive to get it off my hard drive, as that seems to be whats taking up most of my space.

Thanks!

Answer:Microsoft office 2016/365

Hi cstull1217 Microsoft Office allows you to uninstall components separately. To do so, simply go in the Control Panel and uninstall Microsoft Office. It'll ask you if you want to uninstall Office, repair the installation, modify it, etc. Select the option to modify Office, and opt-out the ones you don't need before proceeding.https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Install-or-remove-individual-Office-2010-programs-and-components-aeb80df5-326c-4afc-8064-bd195f560753

Desktop Computer running Windows 10, I'm currently using Microsoft Office 2007, and use Outlook for my emails.
I've recently got Office 2016 on DVD, can I just install 2016 over the top of 2007 ?, or am I better saving all my contacts/ emails and uninstall 2007 first. Thanks

Answer:Best Way To Install Office 2016

There have been considerable compatibility isues with Office 2016 and Microsoft Exchange 2007, but I have no personal knowledge of any problems installing over Office 2007.
Your suggestion of backing up contact details (and emails, as you use Outlook) and then running a clean install of Office 2016 might just be the safest route in the circumstances. You can then import your contacts and emails.

Is released next week. According to all I've read Publisher and Access will be dropped. Not bothered about Access, but I do use Publisher.
Just wondered if anyone knows if the 2013 version will be left or will the whole lot be overwritten.
I suspect, like Windows 10 updates, the upgrade will be compulsory.
Grateful for any help.
