System Board Replacement on X1 Carbon 3443 CTO

Question: System Board Replacement on X1 Carbon 3443 CTO

My motherboard died on my X1 Carbon Gen 1. I sent it to lenovo and the repair estimate was ~$750. I decided to replace it myself but the part for my system FRU 04X0495 (W8P,i7-3667U,8G,F,AMT,TPM,MT) new are quite expensive. I found a new systemboard FRU 04Y1988 (W8P,i7-3667U,8G,F,AMT,TPM) at a much more reasonable price and installed that. I now have a working machine (new machine type 3448-3Y2) but no touchscreen (I assume the MT stands for touch monitor or something).Question, and I think I know the answer, Is there any way to convert or add to my new systemboard the touch screen capability? I assume it is not just the driver?thanks,

Preferred Solution: System Board Replacement on X1 Carbon 3443 CTO

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

In the 6 mo I've had it it's (always) crashed a few times a week.  "Diagnostic" says "This is a known problem."  HW Support says, "ship it to us."  Software Support says, "We want to charge you."  I've had motherboard replaced.  Any ideas on how to fix this $1,800 laptop?

Answer:X1 Carbon Crashes 3443 CTO

Hi, halfbask

When the machine crashes, do you receive any errors when it occurs? I would recommend trying to do the Lenovo diagnostics and then post the results here so the community can help out. To perform this diagnostics, start the machine as normal, but begin tapping the Enter key repeatedly while the machine is at POST (the LENOVO screen before Windows starts). A menu should appear, with one of the options being to diagnose hardware. Press the associated key and enter the diagnostics. You should be able to run a test on the RAM and the storage device here. Once complete, please post your results so we can help.

Best,
Adam

I am wondering if anyone knows how I can get 4k video support on an X1 Carbon (3443)I have tried connecting my X1 to a Dell D3100 which supports 4K but no joy.  I chose the Dell dock since it can support up to 3 monitorsover USB 3.0.  The dock is recognized but I can only see 2048x1152.  I am wondering if this is a driver limitation as I do not think it is a hardware limitation.

Are there any key differences between these models?  I've seen it posted online that the 3443 has an expected battery life of around 6 some hours and the 3444 around 8 some hours?  Is this correct?  In any case, are there any differences between these models?

Does anyone know what interface is used with the X1 Carbon Model 3443 SSD? (mSATA, M.2, etc) Long story short, my motherboard fried and I need to retrieve my data. But my SSD didn't fit into a mSATA adapter I bought. Googling and calling tech support haven't helped either.  It's this one: http://www.thessdreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/SSD-First-Look.jpgFRU: 45N829752-pin, 2.5" drive I really need my data! Answer:X1 Carbon Model 3443 SSD interface? (mSATA, M.2, etc)

IIRC that vintage of X1 used a proprietary Sandisk SSD.  I haven't tried it but this adapter may work:

Can someone advise where I can buy a larger SSD for my X1 Carbon (Type 3443-CTO).  Not sure which generation of X1 this is. Currently have only 128GB.  Would like to have 1TB. I am also open to swapping the WWAN to free up the socket if that is a possibility.

largest ssd for the X1 carbon gen 1 is 256 gigs. The wwan slot can't accept a mSATA (I tried).

I have a T30 type 2366-86U that I believe has a bad system board (plug in the new charger and the only thing that lights up is the battery indicator- plus I can smell the plastic getting hot- pretty sure its the board) The tag says 236-86U. I can get a replacement real cheap off one of those bid sites but its a 2366-FBU. How interchangeable are the boards? I've been through the KB and read the HMM but there isn't any information about the antiques I'm working with! Anyone know if the two boards (or any other 2366 model) will fit in the machine? Thanks

Answer:T30 system board replacement

They should be entirely interchangeable - a quick search on the support-site shows that all the entries for both computers (both the 86U and the FBU) links to the exact same documents - so I think there's very little difference in these two, apart from the manufacturing date.I might be wrong, of course, but I don't think I am.

I have an old Gateway P5-133 computer with an Evergreen MX-Pro 200 cpu upgrade on an American Megatrends system board.
I was in the process of upgrading it with a larger hard drive, WinME, a couple of USB ports, potentially more RAM etc. and was experiencing intermittent episodes of it not booting up. My new machine's monitor, which I used while working on this old POS, was saying there is no video signal coming from the old computer. A new video adapter produced the same message, so I am assuming the system board croaked. It did boot fine following the installation of the new HD and ME.
What would be a suitable replacement if you would be so kind as to enlighten me? I can return the PCI Video and USB adapters but not the Maxtor 80GB Ultra ATA/133 drive and ME.
Regards,
Doug

Answer:Replacement System Board

GoofyGimp

Welcome to TSG! As far as a replacement board, you are probably wasting your time. My suggestion would be to keep the video you bought, the hard drive and the floppy. The rest is very outdated. Your board is a socket 5 board with no real replacement out there. The case and power supply will be of no use on a newer board (probably an AT form factor). The evergreen chip will only fit a socket 5 board and you can go much much faster with a low end $30 duron processor. The memory is probably 70ns dram and will not be able to be used in a newer board. Not really much you can save. Your choices are to look at used computer shops for an old socket 5 board or to shell out a couple of bucks for a bare bones system.

Welcome to the forum!Whether you believe it or not, any R52 board will drive your LCD with no issues.Any board specified under # 18 here, excluding R51e planars, will work just fine:http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-58946.htmlTwo caveats:a) Don't get a board with an IEEE 1394 port since your frame doesn't have that openingb) If you get a board with ATi graphics you'll need a different fan.Hope this helps.

I have to replace the system board on my R51 type 2883.  It was previously replaced professionally and the service receipt indicated p/n 39T5510 was used.  The manual on the Lenovo website indicates the FRU P/N is 93P4201.  I am hoping to use a system board I found online, p/n 27K9925 (this site also references p/n 93P4201).  Although I have been searching online for details of compatibility or part number cross referencing, I have had very little luck nailing down whether these are all different part numbers for the same part.  I am ultimately trying to determine if 27K9925 will work for my machine.  Any confirmation or additional information someone can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Answer:T410 System Board replacement

There is no good list available. It is integrated graphics. Most people don't use AMT or TPM so for most, these don't matter, but I believe (no guarantee) that 63Y1483 has both, so it would work in any T410 with intel graphics.

I have an x61 tablet. It is a few years old, no warranty. It is a 7767 59U model. Last week I opened the case, it woke up from sleep for about two seconds, then the blue screen of death appeared. Now when I try to start it, I get four series of four beeps. This code equates to "System Board (Security Chip)". The computer stays powered on and the fan runs until I unplug it and take out the battery. I really like the x61, and do not want to spend the money for a new one. I'm looking for an 'economy' fix. I understand that the security chip is on the mother board, and that the error code can be somewhat ambiguous. I did strip down the computer and look for loose components, but found none. It seems that the best solution for me would be to get a used motherboard and install it. Does anybody know of a better solution, or additional diagnosis I could do? The system won't start up at all so the software diagnostics are not an option. What are the odds that another system board would fix it? Then, my next question would be what options do I have in replacing the mother board. There are many available on ebay, but not a 7767 59U. How far from the original can I stray. I'd love to upgrade it to a faster model. Are all the 7500 series boards interchangeable? Do the other components like the wifi card, modem, and HD card care what speed the mother board is? My X1 died on me and, according to the sheet of paper that came back from the repair center, had its system board replaced. Unfortunately, when booting, I get a prompt for a bitlocker recovery key - and the key I have (confirmed with Microsoft) is not working. The key id shown on the recovery screen is also different. I've spent about 40 minutes on the phone now with Lenovo support, and haven't gotten anywhere - how can I get back into my machine? It would appear that, since the hard drive was not replaced, I should still be able to get in with my existing key, or am I missing something there?

Bought an M93P online last month with Windows 8.1 Standard pre-installed. There is no COA sticker, but the BIOS System Summary showed "License Status:  SDKxxxxxxx STD" which I assume was my Windows 8.1 key. The on-board NIC failed. A technician just replaced the motherboard. Now the BIOS shows "License Status: No DPK". Windows 8.1 still shows as activated, but I will be downgrading to Windows 7 for now, so I may need to re-activate Windows 8.1 later. I found this document about entering the Digital Product Key but I don't have an activation window like the one shown. This document says the DPK is  "added during manufacturing" but that's what I seem to have lost. How do I get the DPK back onto the system board after a system board replacement? Thanks, Mark

Answer:M93p License Status "No DPK" after system board replacement

Called support. They said the DPK is on the Windows 8 media and will will be copied to the motherboard if I re-image from the Windows 8 media. In the meantime, it will just show "No DPK" on the motherboard.  I'll go with that,, but if anyone has direct experience/knowledge on this, I'd like to hear it.

I replaced the system board on my IBM thinkpad 600E because the original problem was that everytime the system booted up it would keep going to the time (time would not stay). I know that there is a battery on the system board but I figured it would be less of a hassle if I just replace the system board. I did that and now the system will not boot up. The LED's come on and I hear the fan run but nothing will show up on the screen. What should I do?

Answer:IBM Thinkpad 660E will not boot after System Board Replacement

Are you sure the replacement board was not broken? Maybe you did something wrong when putting the thing back together again?

Just take the thing apart again and try your previous mobo. If that works, try with the new one again.

I've been experiencing bad audio high latency (drop outs) ever since my x220 system board was replaced (due to a faulty displayport connector).  So far, three replacement boards have been fitted to no avail.  it appears to be connected in some way to the LAN adaptor/ driver because the latency stops when the cable is unplugged.  I have experimented with different network drivers (eg the latest one from intel's site) I know of at least one other end-user (of a T420) who reported  the same problem but I'm wondering if the issue has been reported elsewhere at all? Thanks...

I would like to say thanks to Tuus for his assistance in obtaining a replacement system board for our T61 that had a failed nvidia chip.  We missed the Lenovo deadlines and were on our own, Tuus made it easy. He supplied a board with the Intel chip set and the fan/heat sink.  When the board arrived I pulled the unit down to nothingness and rebuilt. It took about 2 hours form start to finish. I looked at the lenovo repair training videos for a few wire routings and generally everything went well.   One item of note is our unit is a wide screen and it has 4 screws for the hinge.  The video does not show two of the four, but it was not a big deal to find the empty holes. The board booted and I set the requisite bios settings and we were off and running. The graphics came right up no problem even though drives were not loaded.  I let it update through the thinkvantage update and windows update.  Took an eternity (note to self run the thinkvantage update more frequently).  The Intel gpu drivers did not automatically load, so I went to the lenovo downloads and installed them manually.  No big deal. The machine is up and running and the Intel gpu is more than adequate for our needs. To those who have some ability, do not be afraid to go this route.  It is doable and you can save an otherwise nice piece of equipment.

Answer:T61 type 7662 system board replacement- thanks Tuus

I bought a Y560 i7 15 month ago. It developed a problem yesterday. When I plug in the A/C adaptor, the laptop did not charge but continue to run on the battery only until the battery was drained at very fast rate, from fully charged to dead in less than ten minute! I down loaded the "hardware maintainance manua" and followed the diagnose procedure which tells me the system board needs to be replaced. The A/C adaptor still put out 19.7 volt at the plug and seem to be perfect. When I remove the dead battery and plug in A/C, the laptop did not boot at all, seems to me the charging controller went bad on the system board. Can this circuit be replaced instead of the whole system board which is very expensive. I hate Lenovo put out junks in the market lately after the Chinese company took control. I have an old IBM X61 tablet I bought more than five years ago and it is still good. This is a perfect case the Chinese company has no respect for quality and only want to take advantage of US consumers. Appreciate anyone has some experience in this area. I do not think it is fair to replace the motherboard only in 15 month.

Answer:Y560 i7 laptop went dead less then a year and half old, need system board replacement

It was a shame that the solder joint from the DC power input to the charge control was so poor it got burned out. Shameful Lenovo put out junk that broke in 15 month!

In the end of July 17 laptop just turned off and didnt react on any actions. I brought to service center and they told it's the hub located on the same board with CPU. The only way to fix it is to replace the whole board which costs around 600 USD because there's CPU Core i7 in it. I was given another laptop Inspiron 5558 which was not used since winter of 2017 because it had problems with WiFi. I tried to connect it with LAN cable and discovered that LAN is not working, in fact there's no LAN adapter in device manager. Service center said today that's the same problem - but this time hub is not completely broken, it's just doesnt see LAN adapter and periodically shuts down WiFi. The technician told that this is a frequent problem with Inspirons and Dell knows about it but doesnt recall laptops or extend warranty on this spare part. I asked when second laptop got the wifi issues - it started at the beginning of 2017 and warranty ended in December 2016. Again just 1-2 months.

So, it looks very strange that Dell laptops break right after ending of warranty with same problem, and we can't just change the hub, we need to buy a new board which includes CPU for 600 USD.

Hello. Thoughts?   Audio/ USB board on the left side of X1 Carbon is overheating to the point that the case is almost too hot to touch.  Is this more likely to be a fried board or software sending too much power to the board.  Seemed to work fine for the first two weeks that i owned this pre-owned machine.   Jeff

Answer:X1 Carbon (2nd Gen) Audio/USB board is burning hot

My guess is that the audio/usb board is sick

There are several similar threads on the Lenovo forums, but neither provided me with a definitive answer. The X1 Carbon utilizes a proprietary SSD (a modification of Sandisk's x100)- thus, in the case of drive malfunction, one can't simply purchase a replacement part from any conventional retailers. Moreover, I've called Lenovo's tech support-center and parts department and was told that the Sandisk SSDs weren't found in any database. I cannot purchase a replacement SSD (in the quite probable scenario of read/write decay within 2-3 years), nor can I receive a new part from Lenovo. What ought I do if the drive breaks? Thank you! (Perhaps someone had better luck finding a suitable replacement, or finding the correct SSD in Lenovo's parts dept.)

Answer:X1 Carbon Replacement SSD

Hi, sevkoz

I am unsure why you were told that no Sandisk SSDs were found in the parts database, as there are several listed as suitable X1 Carbon parts, as shown in the image below (taken from the parts manual here). In total, Lenovo has nine SSDs that can be used in the X1 Carbon, with Sandisk manufacturing four of them. If you'd like to order a replacement drive in case of a fault, then you can do so using the part numbers in the image. However, if a drive fails while you are in warranty, then you will have to get it replaced by Lenovo, as nothing on the X1 Carbon is customer replaceable.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Hey guys I recently purchased a new SSD for a Lenovo x1 carbon and I had a few questions. First off I need to transfer all the files and what not from the original SSD to the new SSD, how can I do so? Is there a way to clone the original SSD and transfer that to the new SSD? Thanks

I ordered a X1 Carbon 5th Gen with the default 128GB SATA m.2 drive and it arrives next week.  I'd like to replace the drive with a Samsung 960 EVO PCIe NVMe m.2 drive. The Samsung 960 EVO is compatible, correct? Since I don't have the necessary equipment to clone the existing m.2 drive, I plan to download Lenovo Recovery media from https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht103653 to reinstall Windows and whatever drivers, etc I might need.   This rebuild method should ensure that I have all the same hidden partitions and software as the original PC, correct? I've loved using my W530 these past 4 years, but excited for the new Carbon. Thanks in advance for your help.

I don't really like the display on my X1 Carbon. Even though it's fairly high res (1600x900) I can still see individual pixels. I've also removed the film and screen door effect, which noticeably improved colors, but the vieweing angles are still mediocre at best. Having said that, I was wondering if anyone else was looking to replace their display with the new 2014 2560x1440 display. The viewing angles and colors are supposed to be magnificent, and the pixel density sounds extremely impressive. Can anyone comment on this? Is it possible? Thanks.

Answer:X1 Carbon Display Replacement

The X1 Carbon gen 1 uses LVDS display connection, and the new X1 Carbon gen 2 uses eDP connection. So even if everything else fits, the connection will need to be heavily modified (and no one has done so yet).

Answer:Replacement keyboard for my X1 Carbon

I am not certain I've identified the part correctly, but this looks like the French Canadian keyboard for the X1 Carbon Gen 3 (MT-M beginning 20BS or 20BT). If so, I believe the part you need is FRU 00HT302 or 00HN947 (the two are equivalent, just made by different manufacturers). You should be able to find a supplier online - I'd start looking on the Lenovo site for options in your country (click).

I just received my X1 Carbon 5th gen and took out the 128GB SSD that it came with, and installed a Samsung 960 EVO M.2 (part # MZ-V6E500BW). I am concerned about what the diagnostics screen (press F10 on bootup) is showing me. Many of the fields such as "Manufacturer" and "Model number" show "Unknown" and "Not Supported". Is this normal? I've attached a screenshot. When I look at the existing Liteon 128 SSD these fields are filled in.

Answer:Board Replacement

Ebay has always been a good place to find items like this....just be sure it has a warranty and the seller has 99% or better feedback rating, and that the shipping rates are realistic....Sometimes a board is only $70 and then the shipping is $50.00 etc... Anyone urgent to purchase might click BUY and then say great I just paid $120 for a $90 motherboard elsewhere and get ripped off by $30.I never made that mistake, but I am sure others have...especially items for a penny or dollar that are way under priced until you see the shipping brings its cost into check with what it should cost or even more than you would pay elsewhere.

Hi guys,  the other day my x1 carbon fell from the a height of 2.5 meters and the screen detonated, as you can see from the picture. http://imgur.com/yF5NJ1G Mine is a 2nd gen Lenovo x1 carbon, with WQHD display and multitouch. The local technician asked either 1200 euros to fix the monitor, or 50 euros to replace it if I bring a substitutive piece, so I went for the latter. I'm willing to sacrifice multitouch if it's too expensive, what do I need to buy to replace the broken display? Where is the best place to buy it online? Ebay? Is this ok? http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Orig-Lenovo-X1-Carbon-20BS-20BT-Lcd-Screen-Non-touch-WQHD-00HN826-04X392... http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Orig-IBM-Lenovo-X1-carbon-Gen-2-3-Touch-Lcd-Screen-14-0-WQHD-00HM829-W-B... (they are from China which is bad for shipping, still...) Can I install a non touch monitor, even if my original SKU was with multitouch? Best Regards,

I know the new P models haven't release yet, but... I have a W520 - 16GB, 512GB SSD, nvidia quadro 1000m, i7-2860QM @ 2.5GHz. I want to move to a thinner, lighter computer that uses less wattage (I'm often on a boat running off of battery, and the 170W supply draws 15-18A @ 12v which is crazy). HOWEVER, I don't want to sacrifice performance. Chrome/General office apps + Photoshop, Illustrator and Premier. Do I pretty much need to go with a P51 to maintain the same or better level of performance? It's slightly thinner but bigger in LxW than the 520 and it uses the same power draw. My biggest concern is the i7-2860QM. It's a pretty good processor that the standard i7 used in the X1 carbon, yoga, etc. doesn't seem to compare to. Add in the discrete graphics (even though this is a quadro 1000)... I'm wondering if maybe the P51s will be comparable or better than the 520? Thinner, lower power, etc. Any thoughts on the new X1 Carbon vs. the W520? Lastly.. any thoughts on the screens on the new P51 and P51s vs the W520? My 520 is fully readable in direct sunlight. I've seen pro and con comments on the P series screens. I've heard the new ones will PROBABLY come with the same screens but with adjusted documented specifications that are closer to reality. Has anyone seen one of these screens in direct sunlight and also seen a W520 screen? When looking to spend $3k on a new laptop.. would like to be sure! Thanks!

My screen got vertical lines and dead last week. I sent the laptop to the service center to get a replacement. I got it back yesterday and found there are light bleeding out from the four cornors. And i feel the screen quality is not as good as the original one in terms of black level, viewing angle. Should I call back and let them redo it?  Another issue is that they reset or reinstalled the system (even though I removed my password). Not it looks different when the computer boots up. It was showing a white Lenovo logo in a pure black background. Not it starts with a thinkpad sign and then comes with the four ugly microsoft square logo. Is there anyway to let it go back to what it looked like before? ??

That model (3460-35U) was listed within a PSREF.Broken screen in that laptop is HD+ (1600x900), model LG LP140WD2(TL)(E2), Lenovo FRU 04X1756 or ASM p/n 0A66692. It isn't just the LCD that is different. The panel, bezel, lid, cable and hinges all are different.  If you want to repair with non-touch, the best choice might be to look for a used, complete assembly

I recently picked up an X1 Carbon with a WQHD screen while travelling in the US.  On first boot, I noticed a column of dead pixels and promptly put in a service ticket for the issue.  As with my previous Lenovos, I buy the 3yr NBD Onsite service. Anyhow, the LCD was backordered and after a week (yesterday) the screen was replaced.  Here is where the problem starts. The original screen in the machine was:LP140QH1-SPF2 The replacement screen installed is:LP140QH1-SPF1 Both screens carry the same Lenovo part number 00HN877, but they are drastically different in quality. The original screen was paper white and very bright where I was using it indoors at 80% and in my vehicle at full brightness without issue. The replacement has whites that are yellowish and when at full brightness it is not as bright at the original screen was at 80%.  It is very dim and difficult to use outdoors. I have spent over $3k CAD for this ultrabook and I am not happy about the difference in replacement screen model.  Is there a way I can get the correct screen back in my machine?

Several of our 2nd gen/20A7 carbons have lost their circular rubber feet on the bottom. All the units are less than a year old but Lenovo has told me that this wouldn't be covered under the warranty. Not a big deal, but I'm having an impossible time finding the feet to buy on my own. They aren't listed on any of Lenovo's part lists for the X1 and I've only seen feet for the X220/230 units on 3rd party sites. I'm hoping someone on the boards here is familiar with the part. Thanks

Lenovo did end up shipping me replacement feet under warranty, which was a very nice surprise. If anyone has a similar issue and runs across this thread, the part number for the replacement rubber feet kit is HT096. As of writing this I wasn't able to find any references to that number other than on the paperwork with the shipment, but it may just be a new PN.

A local computer repair shop is the best bet, but for a computer that old, it will probably cost more than it is worth.  Best option is to salvage the data from the hard drive onto a working PC.  Easiest way to do that is to remove the hard drive from the old Pavilion A6400 and connect it to a working PC.  If it is just to retrieve the data, an adapter similar to this will work nicelyhttps://www.amazon.com/AGPtek-Drive-Adapter-Converter-External/dp/B00BIE996S/ref=pd_sim_147_2?_encod...

I wanted to make a new thread, not only thanking Tuus, but to let others know that it is possible to get a fix for dead or dying T61s. There are other threads on this but I'd like to share my experience. I got my T61p about 4 years ago and it had worked like a charm, with only a minor battery issue, for all those years. A few months ago (while abroad in the UK) it just decided to quit on me. The bios beeps on booting said it was a video chip issue, and that's exactly what was up. Thankfully my HD wasn't affected and I waited until I was home to figure out what to do. After loads of searching on the issue (which is prevalent) I saw posts on here thanking Tuus and about the fix. So I sent him a message which he quickly replied to. He explained that these boards (prior to 08/08) have a known faulty nvidia chip and they usually kick it earlier than mine did. I have started PC gaming more in the few months before it died so I assume it was a heat issue, which I now keep an eye on using TPfancontrol. Through contacting Tuus I got my hands on an 08/08 system board with the entire bottom case along with it. It was a lengthy process to take apart my old machine and put the new bottom on, but if you follow the manual on Lenovo's site for your system, it's a piece of cake. Just set aside an hour or two and you'll be fine. The best advice I can give to stay organized with it all is to print the pages you need from the manual, and then tape the parts/screws to the corresponding ... Read more

I'm a bit puzzled as to why you would want a board with built in VGA, you can buy a graphics card for about £15, not a great one certainly but more than adequate when compared to a lot of the onboard VGA. Last night I tried to replace the mother board on my Dell Inspiron 5000e laptop. I bought the replacement part from an Ebay store, and it is still under warranty (90 days). After taking apart my entire laptop and putting the whole thing back together--a job that took my friend and I three hours--we plugged it in for the moment of truth. The battery light came on, so far so good. Then we hit the power button and...nothing happened. Well almost nothing. The machine appeared to turn on. All three lights on the the bottom of the LCD went on, but that's it. The fan didn't start, the monitor didn't start. The hard drive light was on but didn't appear to be reading at all. (i.e. no blinking or noise.) I'm quite perplexed. Everything appeared to go back together perfectly with the possible exception of the diskette drive cable clip, which we weren't exactly sure whether to put back in over, under, or through the disk drive data cable. We eventually put it through. For instructions and pictures of the process, check out link:

Everything else seemed to go back together seemlessly. We were very careful with screws and put all the right sizes back into their correct places. What could be causing this? Have I received a defective part? Are there any other explanations? I suppose a possible explanation is that the processor and/or video board are not quite connected correctly, but they seemed t... Do I have to disable on board graphics before installing PCI graphics card and, if so, how do I do this ? Presumably using BIOS settings which will frighten the life out of me !!!

Answer:On board graphics replacement.

It may well be that you do not have to disable the onboard graphics just install the new card and see that it is installed. If so shut down and move the cable from the onboard graphics to the pci card.If the system objects then Reboot and press the key listed to go into the bios it is often delete or F1. just enter each page in turn until you see the onboard graphics entry then press usually page up/page down to change the entry it will probably say enable/disable. Press esc to shut each page and then click on save changes and exit.

the same as TOSHIBA EQUIUM M70-173 MOTHERBOARD K0000333860.

or can i get a list of boards that will fit the Equium m70-337.
Thanks

Answer:Equium M70-337 - main board replacement

I think it is the same. As far as I know Satellite M70 was offered with two hardware configurations:
- Satellite M70 with part number PSM70E and Intel graphic card
- Satellite M70 with part number PSM71E and ATI graphic chip

Your notebook must be identical with PSM70E so I?m 99,9% sure it is the same mainboard so you can use it.

I noticed from the following link that the HP Envy 27 All-in-one (2016) has the NVIDIA GTX 950M GPU mounted on a removable board, rather than soldered permanently onto the motherboard: http://h22235.www2.hp.com/hpinfo/globalcitizenship/environment/productdata/Countries/_MultiCountry/d... Is it possible to replace the NVIDIA GTX 950M GPU board with a newer GPU, like the NVIDIA GTX 1050?

I don't think the model will matter, however, mine is a Pavilion Slimline s5510f. With thanks from this forum, I have determined that I need to replace my mother board.  I have found HP support documentation on how to replace the mother board, but that leaves the question as to whether I have to do any type of programming of the new mother board or is the MB more or less a plug and play? Thanks for any help.

Answer:mother board replacement and programming?

Hi, Actually you can't do anything with motherboard (only updating BIOS which is still in the hands of vendors). What you see is what you get or using your terms: it is a plug-and-play part. Regards.

My original setup included an onboard videocard which copes fine with XP cannot cope with Windows 7 - apart from at the lowest resolution. I am not a gamer but would like advice on upgrading my video card. If I install a new card will I need to disable the old onboard card? If so how do I do this. What type of new card would be suitable foe Windows 7 - bearing in mind that I'm not a gamer, but enjoy watching videos, jpeg files etc. Any other issues I should be aware of? Thanks for any advice!

Gigabyte 128mb ATI Radeon 9600XT
SB Audigy 2 ZS
1x 40gig WD Caviar (7200rpm)
2x 200gig WD Caviar SE 8mb (7200rpm)
2-Port Serial ATA/133 IDE Controller Card

[Problem Description]
PC won't boot. Power (when connected to everything) only powers up motherboard and any cards attached to it. IDE drives show no sign of life.
However, if you disconnect IDE cables from the motherboard the IDE drives come to life.
If you disconnect power from the motherboard, and hotwire the motherboard power plug, the IDE drives will power up.

Tried motherboard with 3 different power supplies, same problem with all of them. Can't check CPU as don't have any other boards. Memory is fine, or appears to be as changing them made no difference.

Tried the board without any PCI (except agp graphics) cards plugged in, still had the same problem.

Not sure what else to do.

[Scenario]
I moved to London from Melbourne Australia and had to get my PC shipped over. I would have taken it on board as hand luggage, but i wasn't allowed, so I had to have it freighted over as excess baggage on another flight.
It had plenty of padding so I thought it would be fine. It looks as though everything was fine except for what appears to be one largish dimple in the cardboard where it looks like it hit something. So there is a possibility of damage.

Any ideas anyone? I probably should have posted this under didou... Read more

Answer:A7N8X-X no boot, board replacement?

You might try a different IDE cable. Don't know why shipping should create a problem but that would be my next quick try.

Hi, I have this 3444CUU model with i7-3667U(3.2GHz),8GB RAM,240GB Solid State Drive,14in 1600x900 Multitouch LCD,

The touch screen had some cracks so I disabled it so laptp worked fine. Now the LCD display starts to have crack lines also and I have to find replacement for either LCD ONLY or LCD+touch screen.

The below list I copied from another thread but it doesn't really tell which will be working for mine, so I would need a part list for replacement if I am looking for LCD replacement ONLY, or LCD+touch screen combo.

Thanks a lot!

Hello, I recently bought a faulty Acer S3-391, that I wanted to fix. The problem was with the iSSD board, as soon as you turned the PC on, the board started overheating, one of the chips was faulty, from measuring the heat, I guess it was either power regulating chip, or the ssd controller chip, the device turned off after about 30-60 seconds after that. Since the price of this board is aproximatelly as high as an entire functional laptop, I dediced not to buy this one, but the similiar one, that had a mSATA slot and integrated wifi, otherwise it looked the same, connectors were also the same and it fitted the notebook nicely, everything went smooth, but I encountered a problem when I turned on the laptop. the battery wasnt charging. I measured the voltages on the battery and of the three cells, each had 0.8V, which means about 2.4V together, missing 8V for total 11.1V as the battery specs say so.I left it recharge over 24hours, but nothing happened, any ideas? Thanks

Answer:Acer Aspire S3-391 iSSD board replacement

Was it charging before you replaced the "iSSD board"? If it was, then the board is the problem.Maybe the "wrong" board is causing something to get crossed or shorted.

Hello! I have a lenovo X61T which recently had a system board die, After a repair by a local warranty service shop (CompuCom), we found that the Wireless (and fingerprint scanner..) were not working. It seems as though the LED for my bluetooth on the monitor comes on and works fine, i can power cycle that from the FN-F5 combo, but whenever i attempt to power on the Wifi, it does not come on. I keep pressing power on, and it never responds. I can not verify the fingerprint sensor is working, but i was able to power up, scan and connect to wifi networks from this card without any problem from my Ubuntu install on a seperate volume which had no issues with the new system board. So the wifi card is working in linux, so that leads me to think that it is vista (32-bit business) that is having the problem here is what i have done: Uninstalled and reinstaled the drivers (did not delete the driver software, should i try that?)Ran a system update (found that the new system board bios needed an update, but otherwise i keep my system up to date, checking monthly at least for new updates)Deactivated the TPM (Client Security Solution) completely (Next maybe i need to reset that?) I don't know what could be causing the issue, I did attempt to configure an Access Connection profile and specify the wireless network and such, but i get an error saying that the wireless radio is powered off and press repair to fix the issue, this does not work I did log t... What is the correct procedure for replacing the MB battery? Power off? etc. I have a alton m760v MB that reverts back to cmos defaults after being unplugged for a couple of days. Is this normal, I have 2 that do the same thing. Old batteries ?

Answer:Mother board battery replacement procedure?

CMOS should only reset if there is something wrong, or if a battery is bad.

Replacing it is just as you said - unplug power, take out the old one, put in the new one.

Hi, Recently, about a week ago, i have started to experience a BSOD on my Ideapad y470p. I have contacted support through phone and they have directed me to go to lenevo service centre to have my laptop checked up. It turns out that i would have to replace my whole graphics card and my mother board. I was told that my warranty will not cover the cost of the replacement and i was extremely dissapointed. The replace the drivers i was given a rough estimate to S$500.  I am here today to request for help to replace my drivers. I am a student from Ngee Ann Polytechnic and my final year exams are in a few months. I am in an engineering course and i really need my graphics card to be fixed so that i can use my laptop to prepare for my exams. I still have my warranty and i really wish that you guys are able to waiver the cost of fixing my laptop so that i am able to do my assignments and prepare for my exams. I beg of you to help me, so that i can do my parents proud. Please help! Thanks,Shaun.

After switching out the boards I the drive in a computer as a slave; however, the computer didn't recgonize it. Any suggestions??

I have an Emachine T-3092 and need to replace mother board and CPU potentially due to a failure. Have not replace one before. Need to know suggested motherboard as I could not find it on E-Machine website. Thanks.

Answer:Emachine T3092 Mother Board Replacement

You will most likely end up replacing everything except the case. Any ATX or mini-ATX board should fit. How many PCI slots do you have now? 3? The power supply should be changed while your at it... Just deside what processor and memory you want to use, and select a motherboard that will run it.

About a month ago my main board (GA-Z77X-UD3H) started to fail for some odd reason and ive been wanting to replace it since, but now ive beought myself a mini itx RVZ01 case and SFX-L power supply to make a small gaming oriented build and finally replace my motherboard, but i cant seem to make up my mind on which motherboard to buy, having in mind that im running on a gtx 670 and an i5 3570k processor, which is not that powerfull for todays standars, and i dont want to waste a lot of money.

My initial thoughts were on buying this motherboard
Amazon.com: ASUS DDR3 Intel Z77 2400 Socket Motherboard P8Z77-I DELUXE/WD: Computers & Accessories

but then again ive found a lot of cheap options like this
Amazon.com: ASUS P8H61-I R2.0 LGA 1155 Intel H61 HDMI USB 3.0 Mini ITX Intel Motherboard: Computers & Accessories

My main concern is that the cheap alternatives wont keep up with the gpu and cpu and i dont plan on making any serious upgrades since i would have to replace the entire pc components for it to be worth the huge next gen investment. (EDIT) Ill post my original specs somewhere; not using win 7 anymore btw.

So my question is: Any suggestions? What should i buy? (having in mind that im using an 1155lga cpu and a mini itx case) Im looking for anything under 200$ but when it comes to choosing i simply cant make up my mind and would really appreciate some help.

Answer:Need suggestions on a Mini ITX 1155 board replacement.

I just bought and installed the Asus P8H61-I R2.0 board to build a new system using some old parts I had lying around (an i3-2100 cpu and 4GB of DDR3 memory.
It is very impressive board, and Asus has an excellent reputation.

One thing about this MB, it only has one expansion slot (a PCIe x16) so you can add your graphics card if you want but that's it.
