x260 Error 2101

Question: x260 Error 2101

I have a X260 with a Samsung 850 EVO SSD installed connected to the normal SATA cable. Recently, the system ran down in hibernate or sleep mode until the battery was completely drained. The next time I started it up, Iwas presented with an immediate error after the logo of "2101 Detection error on SSD(M.2)". Booting into BIOSor UEFI diagnostics doesn't show any options for diagnosing the SSD. What is odd is there is no M.2 SSD. ?Right nowI am traveling and don't have a SATA-USB cable or another drive to try, but is there any possibility this is something other than my SSD failing completely? System does not boot. Things I have tried already: Reseating the SATA cable, Resetting BIO S to default settings, "Power Cycling" the SSD. All checks in UEFI diagnostics pass.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

running 1.40 biosthink I have WWAN model as there is a SIM slot and there are a red and blue wires ready for the 3G wireless card.all lenovo drivers etc checked to latest versionsInstalled 128GB Kingspan which failed to do anything and caused the whole system to be unbootable. Turns out the ssd was dead as it did not work in working usb enclosure.swapped in 64GB msata minipci from my old eee901 it is the correct size for the lenovo slot - it wasn't for the 901 and I am now getting 2101 Detection Error on hdd2 on boot up.I have tried reseating the card, cleaning the pins, reseating, booting to Hirens, Slacko, Gparted, Fedora and not been able to see it as the error code is pre OS... Anything I can do? - roll back drivers, roll back bios, buy specific brand msata any suggestions welcome :-)

Answer:Error 2101 Detection error on HDD2 (mini sata) X220

HiIt seems newer drive is needed or its firmware. Chek out SSD manufacturer site for fw update.Since x220 BIOS 1.16 or something like this one, msata SSD error detection has disappeared. Except of rare cases with some Crucial (or Corsair, didn't remember) and Samsung drives. Also do not use OCZ drives.

Model: T450sEquiped as:Intel i54+4GB RAM256GB SSD (M.2) Configured as boot disk running Win 7 x64500GB HDD as additional storage Issue:Seemingly at random, approx once every one to two weeks while PC is on and at the desktop but not actively being used (meaning no user is sitting in front of it performing tasks) it will error and crash.  The error is a black screen with the following error: 2101: Detection error on SSD1 (M.2) Press Esc to continue. According to the user Esc does nothing and the only escape is to long press the physical power button until a power down occurs.  On reboot the system comes up without issue.  No user has actually seen the crash take place.   MY QUESTION(S):1st.  Is this most likely an issue with the T450s not being able to reliably boot from the m.2 slot or is this more likely an issue with the SSD installed in the m.2 slot?2nd.  Is this something altogether different?  Any (knowledgeable) advice or info appreciated.

Answer:T450s Thinkpad - ERROR 2101: Detection error on SSD1 (M.2)

It is hard to diagnose without seeing it, but my experience has been that the Gen4 and later CPUs (like yours) support a very low power state that is incompatible with some devices. (that would make it a problem with the card) Make sure you have the latest BIOS and power manager software installed. Look in the device manager and find the M.2 SSD. There should be a power management tab. Turn off the option to allow the system shut the device off to save energy.

Yeah I am getting the exact same error 2101. Also X220 but 4286-CTO which I brought from US. The BIOS version is 1.17(highest I can find now).Wonder if it is a compatibillity problem or simply the bios is not programmed rightly.

Hello, the problem was in faulty SSD drive. Seller told me that he probably got some bad series of this SSD because almost 60% of sold was not working, so I returned it and picked up Transcend MTS400 256GB which works like a charm.

I get the following message when I turn on the laptop: 2101: Detection error on SSD (M.2) The laptop (T560) is new and was only received on the 13 May 2016.  When it occurs I run thediagnostics and can usually get the machine to boot up. However, the error then reoccurs at a later stage, usually if the machine has been idle for a while.  I have lodged a service call with Lenovo but thought I would share my experience here and see if anyone else has the same issue?

Hi all. I have a 1 month old t450s bought directly from lenovo. Standard HDD and ram, decided to go with the HD+ IPS monitor (very good) and opted out on the 16gb ssd. I've bought a crucial balistic 8gb stick and a Transcend MTS400 128gb ssd m.2. I've installed everything and it was all working well with the eventual 2101 error on boot after resuming from sleep. Since my OS is installed on the SSD I've disabled the sleep mode, because boot time is less than 5 seconds. Anyway, a week ago I've started experiencing random freezes doing regular tasks (browsing, documents...). Yesterday the computer was frozen, I've power cycled it and I was greeted with a 0xc0000225 blue screen (something on the lines of file system not found).I've tried everything, system repair, changing the UEFI settings, reseating the ssd, running the Lenovo bios diagnostics (all green). Nothing works. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi, I just updated BIOS ver. from 1.30 to 1.37. Had no problem with it. The system restarted and got the message that " 2101: Detection error on HDD2 (mini SATA)" This is a Crucial M4 256Gb SSD, which I'm using since 5 month. Changed it back to my old KINGSTON 64GB SSD , and it works. I've downloaded BIOS ver 1.3 , downgraded the system, but the problem still exists. It boots without any problem with the Kingston , but not with the Crucial. Currently I don't have another computer to test the Crucial SSD if it's broken, but I think it's rather BIOS related. Plese advise what to do now, because I had all my work on that SSD.  Regards,Gabor

Hi, I just received my T430 about 4 days ago and it's working perfectly until I was trying to install important windows updates. As I was rebooting my laptop after the installation (which fails everytime I don't know why), my computer gave me a loud beep and a error code of 2101 detection error. So I searched this forum and found this solution http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=HT074404 from another post that had the same problem as mine.As i was following the steps,( i did cmd, uninstalled express cache, and did disk managment) but as i went on my disk management i could not find my mSATA. I have a 16 gb mSATA and it was working perfectly fine before. I've noticed on my reboot that it took longer to load and the error message would then come up.So my problem is that I cannot view my mSATA disk on my disk managementThankyou!

Answer:2101 Detection Error: Cannot view my mSATA

The Error 2101: Detection error on HDDx miniSata is a BIOS error. This has nothing to do with the operating system you have installed or any drivers. During the POST, the system does not see the miniSata drive. I (like some others) received my new T530 recently, setup it all up and then a few hours later received this error. The solution is simple. You must open up your ThinkPad. Remove the two keyboard screws and remove the keyboard and RE-SEAT the miniSata drive. There is 1 screw holding the board down. Remove it, re-insert it in. Screw everything back up and voila, no more issue. Go to the Lenovo / ThinkPad Guides and Manuals page for your device (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/guides-and-manuals/default.page?) and download the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your ThinkPad. There are clear instructions (for those less inclined) on how to remove the keyboard. You do NOT need to disconnect the ribbon cable. Simple / carefully slide the keyboard forward and the miniSata drive will be visible and accessible. You can also use the ExpressCache program to get stats on the miniSata drive and see how it is working. Open a Command Prompt (in Administrator Mode) and issue the command: eccmd -info   -   Display ExpressCache activity informatio eccmd -?   -  Will show you all options eccmd -format   - Will reformat and clear the cache drive. Hopefully, this will help out those out there with this issue. So I've read through the history of the msata and the x220 (4286-CTO) and how the BIOS revisions were required during the middle of last year in order to get the Intel 310 and some others to work. Thinking that my little x220 with Bios revision 1.26 (i7, 8gb, 4286-CTO) would be fine, I purchased a Kingston SSDNow mS100 64GB mSATA Internal Solid State Drive SMS100S2/64G and installed it yesterday. The instal went without a hitch, but when I restarted the machine, I received a 2101: Drive detection error on hdd2 (mini sata) error.   I've seen that the 2101 error has been mentioned in relation to a couple of Sandisk msata drives on the forum, but those discussions didn't seem to go anywhere. I just got off my second call with Lenovo support (30 minutes today and 25 minutes last night), only to have them tell me that msata is not supported by my 4286-CTO.  That sounds incorrect, as others with the 4286-CTO seem to have luck with Intel and Renice. What am I doing wrong?  Is this something that another BIOS revision could cure?  At least on one of the sandisk discussions, the OP said that he/she had tested the drive in another computer without a problem, so I don't think it's a problem with the actual drives.   Somebody else mentioned that some drives are not compliant with the JEDEC standard, but that doesn't sound like an explanation to me either.  Thoughts?  Help! Best, sad x220

Answer:2101 Error: X220 with Kingston 64GB msata

I have the same issue with x220.  The mSATA I have is the Sandisk SDSA4DH-064G.  I can also add that the function of the mSATA is the same regardless of whether the mSATA is used in the mSATA slot or on an adapter card in the SATA hard drive bay (Error is 2100 rather than 2101, but the text is the same).  For this reason, I believe the Lenovo BIOS is unable to configure the mSATA drive appropriately.  I imagine that Lenovo could quickly resolve this with a new BIOS. I have tested this drive on a desktop consisting of a Asus P9X79 Deluxe + Intel 3960x running Windows 7, 64-bit.  Device is recognized by BIOS and WIndows Disk Manager.

Hi there, After about month of use I suddenly got an error: "2101: Drive detection error on hdd2 (mini sata)". Simply while browsing the internet system hung up and after reboot the error appeared.I've read that people here had same error just after mounting their SSD's - mine worked fine for few weeks. The problem appeared short time after auto-updating BIOS but not just after flash. 2 or 3 restarts gone smoothly.Strange is that now my BIOS version is still 1.16 when on the web since last Wednesday hangs ver. 1.17 - the update went on Saturday.Any ideas how to avoid sending anything (Laptop and SSD) to RMA? I have already RMA ticket from OCZ but want to save some time and don't want to lose the data.Besides I'm not sure if it isn't issue of the new BIOS from Lenovo. Thanks in advance for any help.Gootchio

I ordered the mSata mini 128GB card to go into the half size slot under thge keyboard.  However when I boot I get:  "2101: Detection error on HDD2 (Mini SATA)".  I thought that a half size drive would work, as it does it my Lenovo W520.  However it appears the BIOS does not recognize it.  It does however recognize it in my W520. Has anyone else successfully added a second drive internally to the X1 Carbon Touch? http://www.mfactors.com/msata-mini-half-size-sataiii-ssd-128gb-64gb/

Hello and welcome,

No personal experience here, but I do see this note on the page you linked:

Note: Only works with systems with mSATA standard connector. NOT compatible with Mini PCIe slot for WWAN/wireless cards

The way I read the Hardware Maintenance Manual  that slot is WWAN only, not a WWAN/mSATA combo slot.  Could be wrong.

I've read a lot about the 2101 Detection Error of mSATA issue on x220 with mSATA other than intel 310 installed. Last year I purchased a W520 and an Intel 310 mSATA. They worked fine together untill yesterday. I have windows 7 enterprice 64bit installed on the mSATA and linux installed on an SSD. I have a 500GB HDD installed in the ultrabay, as a shared data volume shared by Windows and Linux. Everytime I try to boot windows, it fails. And during the next reboot, the "2101 Detection Error" shows up. To try to solve this problem I have the mSATA reseated and the 2101 error disappears, until I try to boot windows again. Everything works fine IF I ONLY BOOT LINUX. 2101 Detection Error shows up everytime I TRY TO BOOT WINDOWS UP. I've updated the UEFI BIOS to the latest version which is 1.36 but the problem is still there. I've used the lenovo diagnosis tool (bootable usb) to run a set of quick tests and no error detected (except for drive self test either not supported or not passed). Please find the configuration of my laptop below:======================================W520-4270CTOCPU:                                 I7 2720 QMMEMORY:                        16GB (4GB SAMSUNG X 4)VIDEO:                   ... I got this error out of the blue the other day on startup, and now I get it every time I restart.  I have tried a number of solutions that I found in these forums (which I'll outline below) but it seems like my system just can't find the drive anymore.  Here's what I've done: 1. ran the ExpressCache program via Command Prompt (eccmd.exe -info) and got this error:  "**ERROR** ECCmd Request device is not available"2. unistalled the ExpressCache software, shut down, pulled the battery opened up the memory module slot cover, removed the mSATA drive and then re mounted it.3.  reinstalled ExpressCache4.  I'm trying to reformat the drive, but I am receiving similar errors     a.  When I try to format the drive (eccmd.exe -format) I get the following error:  HFS Volume is not mounted  **ERROR**  ECCmd Requested device is not available     b.  When I try to create a partition (eccmd.exe -partition) I get the following error:  0x10df (4319).  I looked this up and maybe there are system files missing? I have also tried this but it then says "There is NO mSATA detected, please check mSATA attached" http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT073737 If anyone has any advice, please let me know.

Answer:2101 detection on HDD2 (mini sata) error on my T430

Hello and welcome,

None of the symptoms you describe sound to me like software issues. There is something wrong with the mSATA SSD, or the controller that accesses it - or it needs to be re-inserted in its socket.

Is this machine under warranty?  I'd suggest calling support and running this by them.  They may suggest re-seating the device in its socket, or may offer replacement or some other option.  I don't speak for Lenovo, just offering my personal suggestion.

Hi.  I have a T430s (original owner). At boot-up, I receive a "2101: Detection error on HDD2 (mini sata)", BUT I don't use a Mini SATA!! Windows 10; All drivers current via Lenovo system update (incl. bios 2.69).I have a Crucial SSD drive; I have verified Crucial SSD has latest firmware.I do not have (and have not had) a Mini SATA card installed - this is why the error is so weird to me.I DID recently change the Wifi Switch and cable (which is when the error started showing)The wires that would feed the Mini SSD are still covered with tape from the factory (I forget the colors)I have removed the battery, internal battery and power (and rebooted).  I have reseated the SSD and the DVD drive (and rebooted).I do not have Express software installed; the software that would control the Mini SATA drive (I can't see any "express" software in Add / Remove programs) Can you help me with this annoying mystery?

I tried very hard to find an official answer. I had my x220 bios updated to 1.40 version and installed the mSata 500GB EVO SSD drive to the laptop. It has never been detected successfully.  It was a big hard to insert the mSata drive to the slot and finally it was in the write position I'm pretty sure and the screw is aligned... Any idea?

Hello,

I have only tried a couple mSATA SSDs in my ThinkPad X220, but each one was detected immediately without any error.

Do you know if the 500GB Samsung 850 EVO mSATA SSD worked before you used it?  Perhaps you could try it in another machine, or with an mSATA to 2.5" adapter, just to verify that it works correctly?  Although it is pretty rare to occur, you could have gotten one that is just not working.

(i have updated the title. sounds more like it. ^_^) Greetings ! I am a proud (well, yes ...) owner of the E530 A3G-Model sporting a 16GB SSD.Yes, the one with the pulsy, noisy fan. ^_^  The Story: Last week i thought i'd need a change and try something new. As i'm not really a noob oncomputers, i thought i'd set up Win7 x64 SP1 on the SSD. That's ... not that easy, considering the size, so i've spent the weekend removing irrelevant components ...... like Natural Language, Speech Support, Language Packs ...... from the Win7 x64 SP1 Installation Disks. It took me two days to get it to work, with several testing sessions using VirtualBox,but then i got it right. I haven't removed any drivers, services or anything actually essentialwhich could break the system. (I promise!) So ... after a long session in VirtualBox and installing this system on a small partition on my HDDto verify it REALLY works, i went going on to install it on the SSD. Please note that RapidBoot is turned off in the BIOS and i have removed ExpressCache, which i had previously installed manually, but wasn't actually caching anything anymore, for reasons i don't understand. Maybe i have turned it off weeks ago, i don't know. So, i have set up a 3GB FAT32 partition at the beginning of the SSD for the pagefile. It's a habit. It's a good idea to do this on HDDs, so i kept doing it. Longevity of the SSD was no issue for me,as if it breaks ... well, then it breaks ... but the... Read more

Hello! I just recieved a new T530 I7 and also a Crucial M4 mSata SSD (CT256M4SSD3). The issue I have is sometimes the system will give a 2101 detection error at Post and the only way around it is to power off again, remove the battery/AC and try again. Ive seen other posts regarding this error but no clear resoution.

Answer:Intermitent 2101 detection Issues with new T530 and mSATA

Called Crucial support.   They had me change the Intel 7 AHCI controller driver from Intel to the Standard Microsoft driver.  They suspect that the Intel driver is causing the drive to not shutdown properly.  I'll see how it performs with the generic driver for awhile.

Question: X260 m2 ssd

So I'm finally looking to upgrade my X220... Honestly nothing wrong with it still runs great, i just can't stand the low screen resolution anymore.

So I'm wondering if anyone knows if the X260 has an internal M2 ssd slot. If i get one I'd like to get one with the standard hard drive to save cost, then get an internal M2 ssd for OS/Apps drive.

I'm not finding much info about it.

Thanks.

Answer:X260 m2 ssd

Good day.

The hardware manual: https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/x260_hmm_en_sp40j72016_01.pdf
only shows a standard style drive. No indication of an SSD-compatible m.2 slot.

Hope this helps clarify a bit.

Hi, We are experiencing issues with our x240-x260's Win 7 64-bit laptops Windows 8.1 and up seem to be ok so far The CPU is reaching 70 degrees and even goes up to 75 degrees in one case we have seen so far We have checked the task manager and the CPU looks fine, everything is appearing normal (CPU levels are average not high at all). Memory is also looking fine. Battery is also dead between an hour or 2 as well. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Thanks

I was hoping to replace my aging X201s, and I've been holding out for the X260. I was very disappointed to see that it's essentially the X250, but with a dimmer screen (300 nits rather than 400). Still no USB-C power. No improvements to the keyboard. Now I'm planning to try to hang on for the Retro model next year. If that's still no good (e.g., comes out only in 14" - too big), maybe Dell will have added a good keyboard to the XPS-13 by then.

Answer:X260 - disappointing

You are right, the X series is no longer attractive at all. Due to 16:9 wide design is too bulky while T460s is almost the same weight now. It is no longer as sexy as X60 used to be

Question: X260 debian

Hi ! Just bought a thinkpad x260.I had another laptop before where Debian was already installed. So i took its SSD and put it in my x260.Then I've configured the bios, deactivated secure boot, verified that UEFI boot is enable and changed boot order to boot on the SSD.I started the computer, and nothing.Like there is nothing on the SSD. So, I don't know that I can do.The .efi file is stored here : /boot/efi/EFI/debian/grubx64.efi I don't know where the bios search for an EFI file, or if I can change the place where it searches for it. Does anybody here have any clue ?Not sure if the bios is configured well. Thank you !

Answer:X260 debian

If you want to boot from EFI then you gota reinstall your debain os since when installing debain in legacy mode it will only work in legacy mode so to get it to work in UEFI mode then you gota reinstall debain under UEFI mode then it will boot, there might be another way to solve it but idk if it's the right way todo it.

Question: x260 Touch?

Will there be a version of the x260 that supports touch?  I want to upgrade from my x250 but want touch!  I don't see it listed yet!

Answer:x260 Touch?

I found a copy of the system service parts list and there doesn't seem to be a touch LCD listed.  Note, the parts lists sometimes are not correct when a new prodict is just coming out.  BTW, I have been using a Thinkpad Yoga 260 and it seems like a very nice machine, if it meets your needs.

Question: x260 won't boot

Hi, I have a question and I hope some gurus here could help me out. I bought a x260 last year from Amazon. Warranty check said I have 800+ days left in depot option. I am running Linux and yesterday when I closed the lid, which is the normal way I want my laptop to sleep, and when I opened the lid as usual, it just stayed in sleep mode. Pressing power button or Fn + 4 did not bring the computer back. So I had to forcefully press and hold the power button for a couple of sec to turn it off. Then turning it on does not boot. Here is the video of how it is right now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oRK9TUffYiL I tried to create a bootable USB and boot from it. The same result like in the video. Thank you,

Hi,  I'm coming to this forum, as my quest to have the issue fixed via the Service Desk was unsucessful.  A number of our users, primarily on the Lenovo x260, one user on the x250, have intermittent issues when undocking their Laptops from their Docks, then re-docking them. This appears to cause the following;? USB 3.0 Root Bridge Controller becomes unresponsive, preventing any devices connected to the USB dock from working. (When redocking)? Wireless Driver fails to engage, preventing users from being able to access their Wireless Networks. (When undocking) (Configuration on the Lenovo devices disables Wireless on some devices when an Ethernet connection is detected.)When this happens, the only way that appears to be able to fix the problem is to perform a complete restart of the device, attempting to manipulate the affected drivers in Device Manager crashes the Windows service.Graphics Driver: 20.19.15.4531USB 3.0 Driver: v5.0.0.32Intel PRO/1000 LAN Adapter Driver: v12.15.23.1Intel Wireless LAN Driver: 19.20.3BIOS Version: 1.26Latest Dock Firmwareware Applied. Please Help!

I have an older ThinkPad x230 with a factory-installed Sierra Wireless MC7700-Gobi 4000 for AT&T LTE & HPSA+ adapter and SIM Card for AT&T LTE. I now have a new ThinkPad x260 with a factory-installed Qualcomm Snapdragon X7 LTE-A (Sierra Wireless EM7455). There was no option to specify a SIM card like last time. Can I just remove the SIM card from the older x230 and put it in the newer x260? Or will I need a different SIM card?

Answer:Can I use SIM card from x230 with x260?

Hellox260 supports micro SIM card while x230 supports standard sized SIM card. Of course, you know these cards' sizes are incompatible.

So, I bought the laptop because many reviews and even Lenovo's website tout HUUUUGE battery life with the X260 and the 7cell battery. So I pulled the trigger and got one. Here's the article I used:http://www.laptopmag.com/articles/thinkpad-x260-full-hd-battery-life I have the 1920x1080 screen. Windows 10 reports about 9 hours of possible use time.  I haven't really loaded anything special on Windows 10 yet which would even chew into the battery life. What's going on here? NOTE: I haven't tested actual use time to see if Windows resets or cleans up the amount of life remaining. I plan to exhaust the battery to see how long it really does go.. but wanted to get some opinions if I have maybe a problem system / battery. Thanks.

Answer:Thinkpad x260 TS FD meaning

Hello and welcomeI'm not a Lenovo representative, but definitely TS means TopSeller, FD in the short lsptop specification means the type of display - FHD. "Only laptop" might mean accessories (like additional cable) missing. Of course, AC charger should be in the pack.Original laptop specification is below:http://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/ThinkPad_X260?M=20F60093US

I bought a new X260 which was delivered a few days ago -- On all operating systems (windows, various linux flavors) I see screen flicker in the background. Foreground windows are fine, but the background has this faint flicker to it -- almost like im seeing the refresh rate. I've verified that the display is running 1920x1080 60hz in each of the operating systems.  Additionally, I see it in the boot options menu (F12) on startup when it is happening.  The strange thing is that it seems to do it sometimes, and sometimes it does not. An intermittent problem Has anyone else experienced or solved this problem?

We are running a deployment server with MDT 2013 Update 2 and WDS to push out the images. The image is a Windows 10 pro 64 image and is currently PXE booting and working fine on the Lenovo X240, X250, M73p and M97. However we have recently purchased a batch of X260's and in a similar manner loaded the Windows 10 drivers into the Winpe directory to be injected on PXE boot. This is not working at all and the minute the X260 is PXE booted it gives a PXE-E61 Media test failure check cable error. We have tried several X260s new out of the box to rule out hardware failure or a dodgy device and it's connected to the same cables and infrastructure that the other models which is working successfully uses. I have tried injecting Windows 7 64 and Windows 8 64 ethernet drivers as well (all from the SCCM packages on the Lenovo site for the X260) and none of them work. The bios hasn't been altered in any way and is set to boot to HDD first and Network boot second, I have been testing the PXE boot by hitting enter and F12 by manual intervention. We currently have 25 of these laptops purchased and waiting to build and this is causing a major delay. If anyone could offer any suggestions that would be great.

Question: X260 memory types

I'm awaiting my X260 to arrive, and I want to get a 16GB memory stick to put in it, I understand it takes DDR4-2133 SO-DIMMs. However my local store here doesn't seem to have any 2133 in stock, but has a 2400 in stock...

Anyone know if this could be used, if it will simply downclock to the 2133 speed or actually run at 2400?

I'm upgrading from a X220, and the memory spec'd for it was DDR3-1333, but when you put DDR3-1600 it actually ran at 1600.

Thanks!

Hi all,  Bit of background first. I had a T440 laptop which has served me fine for a couple of years. I have two docks for it, one in the office with a dual monitor set-up and one at home with a 34" ultrawide. The T440 worked on both no issues. However, I've just been upgraded to the X260, and whilst it works in the dock in the office no problem, I can't get it to place nice with the dock at home and the ultrawide monitor!  I has some success last night, I got a pickture on the screen of the ultrawide but at the laptops native resolution, when I tried to change it to 3440 x 1440 the screen went black and I couldnt get it back. After that I've not been able to get a picture back on the screen. If I sit the x260 in the dock with the lid open and start it up, when I get to the desktiop and go into the resolution settings it see's the ultrawide monitor, but I can't get anything to display on it! Does anyone have any ideas how I can get it to work?? Thanks

I have over a dozen Thinkpad models at my disposal (from T400's to T450's, and X230's to X260's) and just lately was asked by someone to look into battery options for the X260. Take a look at this page: https://support.lenovo.com/ch/en/solutions/pd027968 There are 2 batteries shown - the 3-cell 23.5Wh (68) and the 6-cell 72Wh (68+). But there is no mention of the 6-cell 47Wh battery (also 68+). But how did I get to this page? After searching and searching ... and more searching ... through PSREF's, part number sheets etc ... I looked at the FRU on the battery of an X260 I bought recently (45N1735) and searched for it online -> On the bottom of the second page of Google search was the very first Lenovo link ... the above linked-to page. But when I bought this X260 the only battery options given to me were the 6-cell 72Wh and 6-cell 47Wh - no 3-cell 23.5Wh option whatsoever. And even though the part number of the 6-cell 47Wh is on the page (45N1735) there is no mention of it's Wh's or anything else to distingush it from the 72Wh. And now, if you look at this page under 'Hardware compatibility' for both batteries it's written 'ThinkPad T440s' and below that 'Note: For the latest updates on the compatible systems, please refer to the Accessories Compatibility Guide.'. Then you go to this 'Accessories Compatibility Guide' and end up having to download an Excel spreadsheet (no, I am not kidding!). REALLY Lenovo!?!?&... Read more

For 3 years I wanted to upgrade x230. Primarily to get new battery since old one is aging and losing capacity. X series was good combination of size and battery life needed during bus and train travels and for carrying around in a backpack. Lenovo x230 has i5-3320m and 12GB of ram. Naturally after upgrade I wanted something at least as powerful and probably more powerful. Just to keep it compatible with future. X240 and X250 were out of question due to one dimm slot. So I waited patiently for X260 and got Yay 2 dimm slots! How about perf? Lenovo x230: i5-3320m - Processor Base Frequency: 2.6 GHz, Max Turbo Frequency: 3.3 GHz Lenovo x260: i5-6300u - Processor Base Frequency: 2.4 GHz, Max Turbo Frequency: 3 GHz Lenovo x230: HD Graphics 4000 ? 16 execution units up to 332.8 GFLOPS at 1300 MHz Lenovo x260: HD Graphics 520, GT2 ? 24 execution units, up to 403.2 GFLOPS at 1.05 GHz What the hell? I've waited for three years to get cpu which is 10% slower and gpu which is only 20% faster? Yes, I understand that skylake has SSE4.1/4.2, AVX 2.0, H.265 accelerated decoding, but that isn't really a substitute for raw power when visual studio tries to compile your project or when you try to open 5 tabs on lenovo.com So the big question is why didn't you plug in Intel Core i5-6360U. It has turbo boost of 3.1Ghz and 806.4 GFLOPS of GPU throughput. It shares same TDP of 15W so you wouldn't need to improve cooling (and even if you did x230 was able to dissipate 35W!). Answer:[rant] x260 has weak gpu

Hello,

Lenovo offers a version of the ThinkPad X260 with the Intel Core i7-6600U processor, as well.

It's important to keep in mind the CPU speed isn't solely dependent upon processor frequency.  I have both an X220 and an X250 with i7's, and despite the X250's processor operating 100-200MHz slower than the X220's, it comes in about 10% faster on CPU-dependent benchmarks, so Intel has definitely made some improvements in the intervening four or five years.

Some (or maybe all?) X260 models support PCIe NVMe (PCIe 3.0 2), which should improve disk I/O bound operations quite a bit, too.

If your concern is performance over time and future-proofing, have you considered purchasing a T-series, instead?  The T460p, for example has some models with i7 quad cores and nVidia GPUs.

Hi everyone! I've recently purchased an X260 with HDD and wanted to upgrade to the NVME SATA-E Toshiba drive. Went online and found the PCIe cable and the Toshiba drive. All is working well and speeds are on par for an NVME drive. However, I've recently encountered BSOD in windows 10 after not actively touching the laptop for an hour or so. It would then throw an error 2100 stating that the drive cannot be found, which can be verified when jumped into the bios without hard rebooting. However, the drive would appear again after turning the laptop off and back on. I suspect that there's a firmware error causing the drive to stop responding. I downloaded the latest nvme driver updater by Lenovo and the programme shows this.Nvme firmware update by lenovoApparently what I bought online was an engineering sample, with a much older firmware than the one Lenovo provides. The programme refused to recognise the drive and I am unable to update it. Is there anyways for me to update this drive, or anyway to try hard flashing the firmware into the drive? Thank you!

Project Fi is compatable with Sprint, T-Mobile and US Cellular networks, and I wanted to ask if anyone had any experience using the sim card slot with any of these networks or perhaps even a Project Fi sim. I do not want to buy the laptop to find out the sim card does not work. Any advice would be extremely helpful.

From this x250 review video, the keyboard and palm rest flex looks really bad on the X250, you can see the bouncing of the keyboard and the palm rest like a trampoline. Since X260 has the same chaisis as the X250, does the X260 suffer from the same issue?

Hi I am unable to find the DVMT(dynamic video memory tech) option for lenovo x260 in the BIOS/UEFI settings. Will this be made available in a future update or are there any roadblocks in having this enabled in x260?

I am facing a problem in my laptop. whenever i play vedio from youtube or other websites the audio gradually advances as compared to vedio. This is more noticable in movies where audio is way ahead of vedio. I have all the latest drivers and updates installed but this problem still exists.

Hello, I'm trying to repair my x260 after damaging the bios flash IC. I have a suitable replacement chip, but flashing the binary included in the update software doesn't seem to work. I'm using SPI to flash and then soldering the chip in, which should work fine. What I think I need is not just an update binary but an entire image of the contents of the chip. Anybody have a solution? Matt

Hi, I have both my internal and external batteries complaining about being plugged in but not charging. I used it all of yesterday on battery as normal and plugged it in at night but this morning when i started it up, it is complaining about the internal battery being at 0% and battery 2 stuck at 38% plugged in and not charging. I've followed the steps on this forum to uninstall the microsoft ACI from the device manager but neither of the batteries are still charging. Any help?

Hi, I have had my lenevo x260 for about seven months now, and I recently noticed that there is a liquid floating in the display, making it discolor the current patch where the liquid is. It is wery slow floating, but if it has been on its right side the discoloration the on the right ride. In the image included there are three spots on the bottom of the display. I have tried to submit for a service request, but I get an error when I try to login. I do not know where to go or how to solve.

Hi everyone, I bought an x260 coded 20F60097US with default battery configuration of 3 cell internal (45N1111, made by SON)+ 3 cell external (45N1127 made by LGC).  I would like to get an extra 6-cell, 72Wh. According to : https://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/x260_frubom_20160127.pdfI have 5 options. I looked up them on encompass and saw only 2 available, 1 in stock, 1 currently out of stock and will be available in Jul 13.https://lenovo.encompass.com/item/10632737/Lenovo/45N1738/Ba_Rechargeable_Batterieshttps://lenovo.encompass.com/item/10692595/Lenovo/45N1737/Ba_Rechargeable_Batteries They are made by PAN and LGC. I am wondering if I can use 45N1738 with my system, the one is currently in stock ?  And a side question is that I bought my x260 from amazon, would I be qualified for Lenovo warranty ? According to : http://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/ThinkPad_X260?M=20F60097US, it says 3-years warranty. Thank you,

Hello,I have BIOS version 1.25 installed on my x260 laptop (windows 10). Up to now, I updated the BIOS several times without any problem. On last update try to 1.26 BIOS, after running the installation file, my laptop started the reboot procedure (gracefull windows logoff) , however, on initial boot, it got stuck with power green led and the Fn key green led got consistent light without continuing the boot. Pushing the power buttom produces some beeps, however with no other effect. No other response from any other key as well. Nothing helps, but only uplug AC, take the batery off and use the BIOS reset switch on the back of the laptop. Right after, on initial boot try, I got the message: "Secure Flash authentication failed" without any continuation. On subsequent reboot, the boot completed (with old 1.25 boot) fllowing by Windows logon. Your feedback here is acppreciated. Thanks,Yaniv

I need a SED for X260 as it is a work computer. I noticed I could buy a 180/256 GB SSD OPAL2.0 from Lenovo, but I have no experience with this make/model of drive and cannot find any reviews or reliability testing on it. Since I have always had good results from Intel SSD and do not want to gamble with reliability of my data, I would like to install an Intel model. Can a Lenovo rep confirm that the Intel 540s SSD is fully supported by the X260?

So on my old X220 i was able to remap the blue ThinkVantage button to execute a file... Is there a way to remap the F9 key which on the X260 opens the Win10 settings page to something else?

I imagine this is buried somewhere in the registry like before...

Any ideas? Thanks.

Purchased a Lenovo X series Thinkpad last year and had to return it due to software issues that no one could address. Despite of warnings from my wife, I went ahead and purchased a new X260 last month. After using the device for less than 10 hours the LCD display went dead! Luckily I purchased a 1-year onsite service additional warranty. The Tech came in yesterday and replaced the LCD display, however once he was removing the battery I noticed the clip on the right side was broken (misaligned). After he left, the edges of the display frame poped out and I now have gaps in between the frame and the LCD display. I placed a replacent order two days ago but no one called yet. When I called today, the rep was very polite to acknoledge the replacement case number, but quickly suggested that if I'm not happy with the turn-around, I could cancel the order and return the product, which I'm contemplating doing again. At this stage, all I need is a functioning computer as I have a consulting assignment overseas in two weeks and I'm not confident they'll ship a replacement ontime. What's going on with this company? I still have an old X120e (relic) built like a tank, never gave me any issue, which is the reason I tried to remain loyal to Lenovo!!! Can someone get back to me and give me a little better treatment as I'm a very easy going person who can easily become satisfied, instead of making me detest this company?

New Lenovo x260 and I love the machine. I noticed that the system uses the internal battery and discharges it to 5 percent before switching to the external battery. This behavior seems contrary to what is stated in the Lenovo settings application that indicates the swappable 3- or 6-cell battery (i have both) will be discharged first, then the internal battery is discharged. It then charges in the reverse order -- internal battery charges first, then the external battery. Is this something that can be adjusted? Will the system occasionally use the internal battery first? I am using only genuine Lenovo external batteries and both are healthy and get used and charged just fine. The only thing that I can imagine I've done to create the problem is by reinstalling the system image from a recovery disk I created before doing anything with the machine. That story: The instant I booted into Windows 10 for the first time upon recieving the new machine, I created recovery media. I formatted the machine and tried to install Windows 10 professional using a serial I own but I encountered an activation issue. As a result, I abandoned my effort to run a clean install, booted the USB recovery key I created and restored the system to the Lenovo factory state with all the drivers installed and the nifty Thinkpad wallpaper, and so on. So I am using the system with a factory image. Or is this just normal behavior? Thanks in advance.
