I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Dell
My PC Dell Aurora R4 won't update properly due to it not being on the list of windows 10  creator supported drivers PC from dell. Does anyone one know if dell is going to correct this matter.
This is urgent as this leaves me as a customer vulnerable, due to the W10 System of queuing downloads and there is a security one that is waiting.
I have checked directly with Microsoft Technicians and they confirm this is the issue "No Driver support for Aurora R4 Listed, W10  Creators edition. Can dell Update an then inform us a the machines cost a pretty penny and are meant to be future proofed with drivers even without a warranty. Thank you. The link to the support statement on dell site is below.

I have just sent a thinkpad back for repair for the first time in over 20 years of owning  Thinkpad.  I have had 8 thinkpad  series laptops in my time as well as a few desktops and now lenovo phones. I am absolutely horrified with the diabolical Thinkpad support. This is meant to be business level support. I feel like I am phoning up Curry's.  Laptop sent back with hard disk in it and I am being told now that it "turned up without a hard disk in it". Now undercurrent of me lying. Original problem had not been assessed and I still don't have my laptop back after 3 weeks. Customer service agents just tell you anything they want to get you off the phone. I suppose all things come to an end but my loyalty to the Thinkpad brand is probably over now.  I am sure I am not the first. Has anyone else come across this?

Answer:Terrible Thinkpad Support Premium Prices for Sub-Standard Support. Business users avoid now.

Oh, yes. I'm going through something similar over the last few weeks. Here is my thread on it.Been updating it every week. All I ever get is blown off no matter who I talk to. Good luck getting your situation resolved. I'm guessing it was sent to their depot in Tennessee?

Hi, I'm new to the HP community. I am having a problem. Well, I can't really say it's a MAJOR problem as there is no threat to the system or anything, it's just one of them annoying little things. Yesterday, I updated my BIOS to F.43 after being prompted by HP support assistant. Update went successful, loaded back up laptop, and the update is STILL showing as not installed on the HP support assistant. I reinstalled it and it is still showing the same thing. Is this just a bug and is it really installed and the support assistant hasnt been updated?? thanks

That is likely to be a bug in the HP Support Assistant. My product loan Spectre 13 shows a number of updates, available, but already installed on specific dates. You can safely ignore the updates without having any issues.

Hi.  I think I had legacy bios with my laptop pre-installed, then I must have downloaded efi updates from windows update or system update from lenovo, and my legacy bios is gone.  I am trying to see if I can revert to the legacy bios or if I can switch from efi to legacy by adjusting settings. Anyone know something about is? I do not like version 2.29-1.08 because it has too many restrictions on advanced options. I also don't want to use unofficial mods that are iffy at best.  Please help.  Thanks!

Answer:thinkpad r61 legacy bios support with vista 32?

I can tell you that the best bios option is the 3rd party middleton bios, it will double your max sata transfer rate, allow for running both cores in IDA (turbo) mode, use of newer wireless cards and other benefits. I've installed it hundreds of times and it's had countless users worldwide.

Could I please have some advice on what processors would be a natural upgrade for me, which support SLAT?

The are problems with Intel SSD 530 and ThinkPad W520. Many people, including me, are complaining about startup problems ... see this thread also: https://communities.intel.com/thread/44258One month ago I bought an Intel SSD 530 240GB to replace the stock HDD of my ThinkPad W520 (4270CTO). When I cold-start the laptop everything is fine, but when I restart it from Windows 7 or even CTRL-ALT-DEL, the drive is not found. Both SSD and W520 has the latest firmware/BIOS.I had no problems with Intel SSD 335 240GB; Windows starts and restart without problem, but with the Intel 530 it fails when I do restart, the BIOS does not find it after a normal reset. I think BIOS implementation for W520 does not support the newer ATA feature called "Device Initiated Power Management (DIPM) for Software Setting Preservation (SSP)". There is a BIOS update for W530 but not for W520.Should I assume Intel SSD 530 is and will remain incompatible with ThinkPad W520 or wait for a BIOS update?

Answer:Intel SSD 530 startup problems on ThinkPad W520 - Bug in SSD or lack of BIOS support?

I am also seeing the exact same issue. I have a ThinkPad W520 and a Corsair Force GS using a Sandforce 2200 series controller. According to the Intel SSD thread, there is some incompatibility between that controller and Intel QM77-chips which is causing the issue. The symptoms for my laptop are the same. SSD is always recognized on cold boot, but effectively never on warm boot / restart. Will we get a BIOS update that fixes this? I have dual boot configuration with both windows 8 and windows 7. The issue is happening regardless of what OS I issue the restart from.

Hello, I am looking to upgrade the Wifi card that came with my E431. Currently I have the Intel Centrino N2230 and was considering upgrading to Intel 7260 wireless card. I understand that Lenovo only allows whitelisted wifi cards to be used in their laptops and wanted to know if this was on the list and if not if there is a viavle alternative. I have: Windows 10Intel Centrino N2230BIOS: HEET48WW (version 1.29)BIOS Date: 03/13/2015 Thanks in advance! - Brian

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad E431 Wifi Card Upgrade for AC support?

Hello and welcome,

Something to keep in mind about the whitelist:  a card must be a whitelisted model and have a Lenovo FRU.  A generic card - even if the model is listed - won't pass.

The FRU list is here:  https://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/e431_fru_list_20130430.pdf

I don't think any of the listed cards are AC, but please double-check that.

I have noted an upgrade (the latest) on the Tyan website:

Description: TYAN Trinity 510 (S2266) V1.05 060702
New features and Fixes :
Add Celeron 1.7 GHz CPU support.

Currently the BIOS recognizes a WD Caviar Blue PATA 500 GB Desktop Hard Drive (WD5000JBRTL) as only having 136 GB.

Will the TYAN Trinity 510 (S2266) V1.05 upgrade allow me access to the entire 500 GB of the drive?

If not what recourse do I have?

I have the 68SCF Ver F.60 (3/12/15) BIOS installed.  If I run HP Support Assistant (8.4.14.41) it says there are no updates.  If I go to the HP Software and Downloads webpage, there is an F.63 Rev A (7/1/16) BIOS (sp76540.exe) available. Is this the latest BIOS for my system?  If so, why isn't it showing in the Support Assistant?  And how do I determine if I am missing other updates? Thanks.

Answer:BIOS Upgrade not in HP Support Assistant

HPSA is the only "one-click" way to do it. Otherwise you have to do what you did and go through and manually compare your installed drivers to the latest on the driver page for your model and OS.

I added a Seagate 18gb drive to my Compaq Presario (9660) but bios supports only up to 8gb. I contacted Compaq TS through web and inquired about flashing bios to increase capacity. They recommended Sofpaq SP9847 so I reviewed descriptive text for that fix. It had no reference to disk support. I inquired again if this fix addressed my problem and received from Compaq "upgrading the BIOS would give you the best chance of increasing the system’s capacity.....". They don't know ! Their 1st-level support doesn't know how to find out ! They support their hardware and customers with this kind of nonsense !! Can anyone help ?? THANKS..............bk

Hi there people,

I'm wandering if there's a possibility of upgrading the i5 3230m that's currently in my Satellite Pro C850-1H8.

Looking at the options available on the socket FCPGA988 and the Intel HM70 chipset there seems to be a variety of the i7's available for use.

Does the laptop support CPUs with a greater max TDP than 35w?
Also does the bios support any of the CPU upgrade options?

Cheers, Nick

Answer:Satellite Pro C850-1H8 - BIOS CPU upgrade support

In this forum you can find different threads about the CPU upgrade theme.
I found this one:
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=75073

Paolo and Macius posted some information about the CPU upgrade situation.
As you can read in other thread, the CPU upgrade isn?t supported. Upgrades can be done at your own risk and nobody could say if CPU supported by chipset would be supported by BIOS.
Test it if you want but this is your own risk.

The case is pretty similar to a M92p.    I see on the back the connectivity is a bit less.    Good news is that the 3.2 GHz i5 is new enough to have Win 10 support (since it's a model with Ivy Bridge and not the earlier Sandy Bridge models.)

Dear Lenovo, I have recently purchased Y710 Cube 15-ISH with H170 that support Kaby Lake CPUs (according to Intel's ARK), but requires just a BIOS upgrade. Since it was available only with i5-6400 here, I want now to upgrade to i7. So I want to ask when we can expect upgrade of BIOS on Y710, so I can upgrade my CPU to Kaby Lake i7, which is basically same price as 6th gen but faster. Other mainboard suppliers already provided their customers such updates. Best regards,Adam Strzelecki

Hello, I've updated my tech specs on my comp so clicking the computer icon next to my name will give you all the stats for my pc. Now, on to the main point: I'm looking to upgrade my current AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ processor to an AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ processor and I've been told that to upgrade processors you need to update your BIOS before installing the new CPU.

If that is the case, (A) where would I go to get any updates for a M2N68-LA motherboard and (B) can anyone tell me if that'll make it work for sure?

Also I'd would appreciate any tips for changing out my processor as this will be my first time doing so. Thank you for any help

Does the Thinkpad P51s support the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock? I have the Thinkpad P51s with stock Windows 10 Pro and updated to latest drivers and Windows version and installed the latest Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock drivers. Attaching the Thunderbolt 3 Dock to the P51s as described in documentation, it charges the notebook, however, noting attached to the dock is recognized. I've tested with attaching USB flash drives, headphones, Ethernet, HDMI, and DP, but nothing is recognized nor are any warnings/errors displayed in Windows. While the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock is listed as being compatible with the P51s and T570, the notebook order page does not list the Thunderbolt 3 Dock in any of the accessories lists. Lenovo Sales also confirmed that the Thunderbolt 3 Dock is fully compatible with the P51s.  However, I needed to purchase the Thunderbolt 3 Dock separately from the notebook order. What's going on? Has anybody successfully used the P51s or the T570 with the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock? Or is this something I need to wait for full support via a future BIOS/driver update? Or perhaps my Thunderbolt 3 Dock is defective? Thanks,Boris

Just a quick question.

I have an Intel Pentium D 2.8ghz.

Can it support x64 or can it only support x32.

I have tried to find out for myself but my search came up cold, i could not find anything.

Cheers guys.

Answer:does my processor support x64?

1. Open Performance Infomation and Tools (Right click my computer and select "properties" Click on Windows Experience Index)

2. Click "View and Print detailed performance and system Information".
3. In the System section, you can see what type of operating system you're currently running under System type, and whether or not you can run a 64-bit version of Windows under 64-bit capable. (If your computer is already running a 64-bit version of Windows, you won't see the 64-bit capable listing.)

The processor support had an exlamation sign and when i clicked on properties it says

"The NTKERN.VXD device loader(s) for this device could not load the device driver. (Code 2.) I tried to update the driver, but it didn't work. I'm told the win98 CD doesn't have the NTKERN.VXD on it. What should I do to fix this. thanks.

I have just tried to install Windows 10 but got the error message that my processor doesn't support it.

It's on a very old Dell Dimension 3000 computer that I have been upgrading over time. One of the only things I haven't changed is the processor. However, I'm pretty sure it should be good enough to run it.

It is an Intel Pentium 4 Prescott 90nm Technology 2.80GHz

I did think that I needed to enable something in the bios for it to support NX, but I can't find a setting for it anywhere.

Does anyone know how I can fix it please?

What "upgrading over time" have you done to that desktop?

All the original hardware in it is too old and too slow to run Windows 10.

The Intel Pentium IV 2.80 GHz processor was introduced in early 2002, so it's about 13 years old.

It's a single-core model with a 533 MHz frontside bus speed.

It supports only 32-bit versions of Windows.

It's my guess you're trying to install a 64-bit version of Windows 10 in that desktop.

Answer:Mobo and Processor support

I am thinking about upgrading my processor. my current system is as follows....Athlon 1400, 512 pc2100 DDR, Chaintech 7KJD mobo, two harddrives, GF4 ti 4600.anyway, i am thinking of either the athlon XP 2200 or 2400. the problem is i don't know if my mobo will support the latter. the last BIOS i downloaded said support for the XP 2100 and XP 2200 was now there. however, when checking for BIOS updates its all changed.the BIOS i did download is no longer there! However there is an older BIOS that states 'Athlon XP support'. therefore, will the XP2400 plug in and play?? i am certain the XP2200 will, but i will take all the power i can get!i don't want to change my mobo as i would then be inclined to do RAM etc. the XP 2400 will push my mobo to its limit as this was AMD's last processor with an FSB of 266!!so, any help please!!!

is i3 processor support windows xp

Answer:is i3 processor support windows xp?

Yes, the I3 processor does support XP. But this isn't the issue. The real issue is whether or not XP compatible drivers are available for the computer, and that is by no means a certainty, particularly on a laptop. If you are contemplating installing XP on such a system be sure you have all necessary drivers before beginning. Also be aware that XP has no native support for SATA drives.Computers usually work best with the OS they were designed for.

Hi!
I recently bought these computer parts, while I'm waiting I was wondering (again) to make sure they will work together.

Motherboard Biostar TA780G M2+ Motherboard: http://www.circuitcity.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3672389&CatId=2320
Processor AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Processor :http://www.circuitcity.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2905661&CatId=2328

For Memory, I already added a 2 GB one : http://www.circuitcity.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3281625&CatId=3409
But I bought another, currently though, they did not have the same 2gb so I got a I GB :http://www.circuitcity.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2485590&CatId=1654 Will these two work together,I noticed they had different CAS Latencies.

Finally one last question:
With this processor,motherboard, memory and:

i seem to be in a catch 22 situation, i am assembling a new pc and have purchased the motherboard gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L and am looking at processors to buy. but on the gigabyte processor support page it lists products by revision numbers, so my board is revision 1.0, ok, but then it lists supported cpu's by bios versions. it then explains how to see what version you have, but to view it you have to have a working machine. so how can i be sure of processor support before i buy? and this problem seems to be the same for all makes of motherboard.

Answer:motherboard processor support?

it must work with any quad or core 2 duo otherwise they would never sell any boards.

Answer:Intel Processor Support

Hi, Your machine currently has   1.5 GHz Intel Pentium 987 CPU with Intel HM70 Express as shown:      http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-15-Sleekbook/5296234/model/5317596/document/c03529453/ You can't replace CPU without BUYing a motherboard with CPU on it. There is a list of available parts from page 63 of the first manual on the following link:     http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-15-Sleekbook/5296234/model/5317596/manuals This is a very. very, very, very expensive upgrade. My suggestion, forget this, saving more money to buy a new machine. Regards.

Hey there, I've recently gotten more and more into gaming, and as it gets more serious the demands for less lag has gotten to be more!

So here's the eMachine. I got it from a friend and he put a huge video card, a new power supply, and lots of RAM into it.

Anyway here's the link: http://www.e4me.com/products/products.html?prod=T3642

and here's the CPU I want to put inside of it: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103210

I know the sockets match and everything, but I read something about how my motherboard has to support Dual-Core Processors

(Btw here is my current processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103868 )

Hi guys. My client has a near new i3 system with xp home edition installed. Above that he has office 2010 and 2 gb RAM, He liked only xp. Now ..the system takes a long time to boot and the coontrol panel (add/ remove prog) nearly frezees for about at least a minute to load. I hav checked .there is no spywares or other stuffs.. My biggest doubt is does the OS support the hardware. Please advice.

Answer:i3 processor support windows xp home

If the OS still works, then probably XP does support the i3, but it can't use the processor's full power with the hardware technology that XP has. Windows Vista and 7 use updated hardware control technology, so that it uses the full processor's power. It will work with XP, but you can probably get more out of the computer by using Windows Vista or 7 on it.Ask and Answer. Hey you guys. Building a new computer with an X2 AMD processor, and while reading up on the differences between XP Pro and XP Home I noticed this on a few sites:

From Microsofts site:
Scalable processor support – up to two-way multi-processor support.Click to expand...

From another site:
Multi-processor support - Windows XP Pro supports up to two microprocessors, while Home Edition supports only one.Click to expand...

Am I getting all of this wrong? Does it really mean that a dual core processor won't do crap when dealing with applications in Home, because it's not supported? Or are they talking about two actual processors connected into one computer?

Answer:XP vs Home - Multi-processor support.

My home desktop is an ASUS P4S800-MX motherboard w/ a p4 @ 3GHz (800mhZ FSB), 1GB DDR RAM, 40GB IDE HD, 512MB ATI radeon AGP graphics card, and wifi. Before upgrading to vista, im thinking of finding a new motherboard that can support 2 P4's and add another gig of memory while also making my existing hardware compatible. Would you suggest i make such a change or just keep my current settings and just add 1GB more ram and get an SATA HD rather than keeping my IDE drive? I'm open to any suggestions (cost efficient of course)

Answer:Dual processor support on Vista

Why not just upgrade with the existing system? The only thing that cries out for replacement is the 40gig drive. You don't really need more than a gig for decent performance with Vista.

I want to upgrade from my E6420 to the new E8400 processor. My Motherboard is an ASUS P5BW-LA, 775 socket P965 Express. My BIOS Version string is 5.07. My research points to it being able to handle the 45nm processors. But what about the Bus speed of 1333mhz? Will it likely require a BIOS update? I have no knowledge level about how to do that. Would be grateful for any advice.

Answer:Will my Mobo support the E8400 Processor?

A search of the Asus web site comes up empty for that motherboard model. Why do I get the feeling it's an HP or Compaq tower?

EDIT- It is, indeed, in an HP tower. I found it here http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...48726&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=&os=228&product=3299181 It has the code name "Basswood". I did find a BIOS update for the HP Media PC m7680.be-a here:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=&product=3299181 But there is no mention of it doing anything do raise the FSB, and that is generally not something a BIOS update can do, and since you failed to mention that it is an HP and there's no model number listed, I can only find out so much. But- a motherboard is a motherboard, so I think you're out of luck. Next time you shell out some serious dough for a PC, you may want to think about custom building one so you'll be prepared for future upgrades. From what I could see, this P5BW-LA motherboard has been around for a couple of years now so I don't think it will take the 1333fsb CPU's which have only been around for just less than a year (if my research is correct, I could be wrong).

Hi,

I think that my MOBO can support this processor, but I just wanted to check.

I currently have a Intel Core 2 Duo E660 2.4GHz, with 2GB DDR2 533MHz RAM (2x1GB).
My MOBO is an ASUS P5N-E SLI.

(1)
I want to upgrade to an Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 2.66GHz Quad Core CPU. According to the ASUS website, my computer can support Quad core.

"
- Support Intel® next generation 45nm Multi-core CPU
- Intel® Quad-Core
"

(2)
I also wondered how much is the maximum RAM my MOBO can support (can I put in 2GB sticks in or just 4x1GB).

"
- Dual-channel DDR2 800/667/533
"

All help greatly appriciated in question #1 or #2.

Answer:Will my MOBO support a new processor and differnet RAM?

generally it is better just to stick with 2 sticks of ram. So go with 2 x 2gb if you want 4gb. (This is overkill for most applications). 2gb should be plenty.

You should not have any CPU upgrade issues, but you may require a BIOS update. Read: http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic75555.html

I've never upgraded a processor before so am mostly clueless when ti comes to this. I have a Pentium 4 1.9 GHz processor and an Intel D845HV motherboard. I'd like to upgrade my processor to one that is 3.0+ GHz, but am not sure if those would be compatible with my motherboard. Intel websites seem to suggest not:

"The Intel® Desktop Board D845HV supports a single Intel® Pentium® 4 processor or Intel® Celeron® processor with a system bus frequency of 400 MHz." And the latest Pentium 4's have higher bus frequencies than that, but I am not educated on the significance or meaning of such things.

Can anyone clarify this for me? If not, what's the highest power processor available for my board? Thanks a lot.

that i believe is a socket 478 board, you can only use s478 processors. as long as you don't get a s775 you should be fine.

Answer:Processor Support for Intel 440BX Motherboard

That's a Gateway-specific motherboard, Intel have no information about it on their site. From looking at similar boards you should be able to run a P3-450 (Katmai, not Coppermine), which is what the Intel SE440BX goes up to. I'm assuming you have a very early 440BX board as it came with a P2-350, the first 100MHz FSB processor Intel released.

I bought TPS230U in may2013, and one monthe ago, the laptop just turned off by itself and wont turn on anymore. I had tried troubleshoop refresh and resetting options but it doesnt work.
My warranty certificate is still valid for itnernational support (now I live in  Brazil), so that, I called Brazil´s support (My laptop ID is: Type 3347 2GU S/N xxxxxxx 13/02.
At the first time I contacted by phone, the attendant asked me to (once again) turn off the laptop  and call back again. Well, I did it, adn (of course) it didnt work. So I called once again. The second the new clerk said I should buy a cd or dvd ( which could not be via USB stick ) , download from other computer and copy  an image file  that lenovo would understand the problem . I explained that I had not cd to record that moment. But he was very rude, and told me that it the  support goes to my house and concludes that there is a software problem and not hardwa, I was supposed to pay for the visit. So, I went to a store and bought a recordable CD , recorded the ISO file and got home to insert it into the laptop and....for my surprise,  my laptop doenst have any  entry for CD ! I feel that lenovo has been really disrespectfull with me and all I want is to have a simple support to my laptop, but I still couldnt have. Pleaase let me know how can I solve this problem before my waranty term expires!!!

I have a T430s laptop and it is less than 6 months old. It starting getting blue screens within a month of purchasing it. Technical support has been helpless in trying to fix the laptop. First, tech support told me to turn update my computer daily. Then another tech support employee told me to turn OFF my auto updates. This did nothing and over a few weeks the blue screens progressively got worse. Next, tech support told me to run a diagnostic on my computer which turned up nothing. Then, they tried giving me recovery discs and a new hard drive. After that failed they took it in to replace the system board which made the blue screens worse. Then they sent me MORE recovery CDs to try to fix the problem and that also made the blue screens worse. I called tech support after this and they said they would send in a request for a replacement laptop. I was told I would hear from someone in a couple days. FIVE days later I got a called from someone asking if I wanted a replacement and I said yes. Then I was told I had to wait two more business days to get contacted about it. Another 3-4 business days later, someone called me to tell me that they would NOT be replacing the laptop despite the fact tech support could not fix the laptop. After calling tech support once again, I was told that they wanted me to send in my laptop again for up to 7 business days! This is completely unacceptable. I've encountered an interesting case on my new ThinkPad R61.  It comes with one PC-Card slot, which purportedly supports PCMCIA (16-bit) and CardBus (32-bit); however, it appears only to support CardBus.  This would be "okay," except for the fact that a GemPC400 card reader (component 31P8904 / FRU 41N3007) was offered and ordered when loading out my system.So.  Diagnostics:When I insert CardBus (32-bit) cards into my R61, they are recognized.  When I insert the same cards into my T23, they are recognized. When I insert PCMCIA (16-bit) cards into my R61, they are unrecognized.  When I insert the same cards into my T23, they are recognized. When I insert my GemPC400 into my R61, it is unrecognized.  When I insert the same card into my T23, it is recognized.  Which makes sense, considering the GemPC400 is a PCMCIA card.I conclude, therefore, that the R61 doesn't actually support PCMCIA.  And that Lenovo probably shouldn't offer the GemPC as an optional card for the R61, or any other system using the Ricoh R5C847 chipset, which is responsible for -- among other things -- providing PC-Card support.Am I off base here?  Is there an R61 user that can support the GemPC400 or other PCMCIA card?  Now, this is probably the kind of thing they can fix in a firmware update.  But for the time being, I've got a fifty dollar item that I can't use in my new system.  And that makes me sad.

Answer:PCMCIA Support on ThinkPad R61

I just received my R61 which has the combination PC card slot for one PCMCIA and one Express Card. The express works fine,  PCMCIA cards (Sony GC79) when inserted are not recognized at all.  Card works fine on my other laptop.  Search for new hardware finds nothing.   Both systems are Windows XP.I did borrow a PCMCIA from a friend.  It started to recognize it then went to bluescreen.I'm looking for ideas, solutions, or next course of action.Thanks.

Answer:What Thinkpad support RAM extension above 8GB

The easiest way for you to find out the specifications of the models you are interested in would be to search for the Platform Specifications for the models you are looking for.     For instance, to find out the specifications for the T470, search Google for "T470 psref" and the search will return a result PSREF ThinkPad ThinkPad T470, which is a document that will give you all the details of the system you are looking for.    Most of new newer models seem to support 32 GB Cheers,

Hello there, I have got a ThinkPad T550 (20CKA00ECD) with i5-5200U which should support AES-NI (http://ark.intel.com/products/85212/Intel-Core-i5-5200U-Processor-3M-Cache-up-to-2_70-GHz) However, when I look it up in HWiNFO, there is no AES-NI.? I've updated to the nearest BIOS version (1.15), but there are not any options to enable it. I wonder if the engineers of Lenovo could release a BIOS update so that the AES-NI function of CPU would not be wasted? The only change needs to be done is the value of 0x13c, and I think it won't take too long for the modifying. Thanks

So, long story short, my computer is in on repair and they came and took it 10 days ago. Its been on repair before so im familiar with the process, however this time, the process have been different and it have made me worry. Last time i had it on repair i was given a number to track the repair process of my computer, this time they have not said a word since they came and took it..Making me worry if it have even arrived at the repair shop. I of course want to contact lenovo support about the matter to make sure everything is as its supposed to, and my computer isnt missing. However, for some reason the recive a call and the chat to a support agent online are missing, and in the email option the email wont send. So im unable to even contact them. Just wondering if there is any other way? or if others had their computers on repair without hearing a word from lenovo untill the computer arrived at your door again 14 weekdays later?

Hello, my Brother recently gave his TPY 14 to me, he never use any Pen or stylus with it. I want to make sure whether my TPY 14 support Active digitizer or not. Type numer : 20DM-A011ID, i already check on http://psref.lenovo.com/Product/179, but there's no result. If it turns out that my TPY 14 does not support active digitizer, would it be possible just to replace the LCD Screen with the new one ,that support active Digitizer??Thank You

I've got a ThinkPad 460s that doesn't have have the option to select TPM 1.2 in the BIOS. We're planning on updating to TPM 2.0 and EUFI when we roll out Win10, which is in testing currently, but we need to use TPM 1.2 to support BitLocker on Win7 for now. We have other 460s that have the option to choose from Discreete TPM 1.2 or Intel PTT with TPM 2.0 but this one machine is missing the 1.2 option. How can we change this? Thanks, -Steve

I have a Thinkpad Edge 15 - model code 031925U, serial number 1ZJP21840L6 that I have owned from new.  I now need to reload Windows, because of problems with its audio on Microsoft Skype.  When I go to Lenovo Support, I cannot find anything anymore.  I am prompted to enter product description, model type number or serial number... I try all of these, but it's as if my laptop never existed.  I've checked, and right on the keyboard bezel there's a Lenovo label, so I think it's real.  Can anybody point me to the download page for this model, please?  Thanks for your assistance.

I'm purchasing a new computer and will be going with a Core 2 Extreme Quad-Core QX6700 overclocked to 3.20 GHz. I've chosen to stay with XP while also dual-booting to Linux.

My dilemma is that I'm waffling between XP Media Center Edition and XP Pro. The only reason I'm considering Pro is that it has "support for dual processors", but this could be a big deal. The reason I'm considering Media Center Edition is that, having read considerably on BeyondTV, SageTV and PowerCinema, XP Media Center seems to be superior.

But dual processor support will trump media capabilities. Can anyone offer a comparison, or provide a link, which will clarify how the two versions of XP perform and compare with the new quad core processors.

Some typical review statements that I've found : "...even Windows XP users may benefit some just from having the additional cores to run all those background tasks..." and "...the main benefit to an ordinary user from a multi-core CPU will be improved multitasking performance...ordinary users are already running many threads; operating systems utilize multiple threads as well as antivirus programs and other background processes including audio and video controls. the largest boost in performance will likely be noticed in improved response time while running CPU-intensive processes like antivirus scans, defragmenting, ripping/burning (requiring file conversion)...".

The above paragraph perfectly desc... Read more

Answer:WindowsXP Media Center vs Pro and Duel Processor Support

Dual processors != multi-cores.

Always go by the number of sockets when discussing multi-processor systems. Either version of XP would be able to utilize a quad-core processor.

We are Dell resellers and had placed an order for 43 Laptops - Dell Latitude 3560 with Dell on 13th June, 2016. We delivered them to our customer on Friday 17th June, 2016. On Monday 20th June we discovered that all the Laptops are faulty and are not functioning properly. They have not been able to use a single system due to touchpad issues in the entire lot
We have made innumerable calls Dell to resolve the problem, but the team is unable to identify and rectify the problem.
We have spoken to our partner account manager, regional account manager, Service Specialist and Escalation Team, requesting them to provide us with a solution at the earliest as their work is getting hampered. Our customer has to deploy the same by 1st July however they do not have any Dell Laptops functioning correctly.
How do we escalate this to the Dell management and get a replacement ASAP
Regards

Someone told me in another thread, and I also read here, that

All Wireless N routers support dual-band 802.11nClick to expand...

implying that any wireless N router can use the 5 GHz band as well as the 2.4 GHz band. Isn't that the implication?

Then why is it that when I browse routers, only some of them list both 2.4 and 5 GHz frequency, while others list only 2.4 in the specs? I want to switch my network over to 5 GHz in order to get away from all the interference I'm getting, as discussed in this thread.

So what's the real answer? Will any cheap "wireless N" router be able to do 5 GHz, (e.g. this one?) or do I need a more expensive dual band one?

Answer:Confused about router support for 5 GHz band. All wireless N routers support it??

No. The 802.11n standard supports 5GHz, but does not require it. Now if a device was 802.11ac, it will have a 5GHz radio since that standard only works on that freq.

I paid for 3 years of support and accidental damage in home support. Together, it cost around $400 on my new XPS laptop. Afew months after I bought XPS 15 9560, I pulled out the charging cord, and a round piece of plastic that was inside the port came out too.
I called technical support at 5 pm EST, and received someone in Southern India. I gave them my information, and they confirmed that I had service. They then fought with me for 15 minutes, telling me I could NOT have any in home service. The representative, who kept calling me by my first name (no respect)  said I had to send my laptop to a depot in Texas for them to identify the issue. Finally, after I insisted, the representative, S. Sirya Kiran, FINALLY allowed me to get in home support IF I sent him photos of the damage. I did. Finally, I received an email telling me to select a date for service, which I did, 12/18/17 between 9 am and 1:00 pm .
I took time off and waited. No one came by 11:30, or called. So I contacted World Wide Tech Services. They then told me they didn't have enough techs to handle my area, so they were NOT coming. I asked why no one gave me the courtesy of a phone call and they had no answer. They said a new company, Unisys, would contact me. (I doubt they ever will.)
Is this what Dell gives people for their money as far as support and accidental damage in home service for $400? This is an outrage.

Started about a month ago - pops up over and over and over and over - about every five minutes or less.  I've got a Dell Studio XPS with Windows 7 Professional.  Another forum said to just uninstall Dell Support Center (Support Center Software) - but when I try to uninstall it - THE SAME STUPID WINDOW POPS UP ASKING ME TO INSERT THE SOFTWARE.  I tried doing a Browse and it's looking for DSC20.msi.  I haven't managed to find it yet.  I have at least found \Program Files(x86)\Dell Support Center but there's so many sub-directories...
I shouldn't have to be jumping through so many hoops just to uninstall a program.  This is driving me crazy and I haven't found an answer online yet.

Hello there, I'm interested in finding out more about the X220 - In particular the actual bandwidth available to the i7 Version of the X220 with it's USB 3 port. I'd like to be able to use the Black Magic Design Intensity Shuttle with this laptop, however it requires a Super Speed USB 3.0 Port. It's common for laptops to only use a single PCIe lane interconnect, giving the USB3 Port only 2.5gbps of available bandwidth. This won't be enough to allow that capture card to work  A similar situation also exists for the Expresscard slot - To be able to support Expresscard v2.0, It needs to provide 5gbps (2x PCIe v1 lanes). If it does this, It's possible I can buy an USB 3 Expresscard which will have enough bandwidth to use the card. In short I would like to know if the super speed USB 3 port can actually function at the intended speed, and is not crippled to half rate.

After so my research I ended up buying the P50 from OutletThe machine was advertised as 32GB but my parts says 8GB in parts lookup page And I was advertised as M2000M as graphics card but to my astonishment I received M1000M. I did open a case in the ManagedTechnicalAccess or so-called ThinkPad support area but they closed the case saying that they couldn't reach me. my phone. Yes, I am in business in Asia and what do you except Lenovo?I did reach the support number given in the ticket but after an hour of roundabout I ended up wasting my time with no proper resolution as everyone kept transferring me between the sales and IBM hardware support. I was given an opportunity to return the machine in 14 days but LOL, I would return back to country at least after three months as I am in business.I bought this as a replacement to the broken W530, which you need you can't fix it and all I had was P50 as ready to ship. As I was flying in a week I expected the machine to reach me at least as advertised but in all honesty, I never wished for such a surprise at 40,000ft.Now I don't have a proper workstation and sitting idle with a $1300 brick. I can't use them if I need to return them for a refund or I can continue using them but no refund would be provided and I can keep the machine. But Lenovo, I expect a little professionalism over here, I should be either given a part refund (the costs of missing part) or allow me to use the machine and accept return as I come back after the... Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, I have bought a used Thinkpad X300 from a bargainer; model: 6477-R7U. My thinkpad has a SSD from TDK Model: HS1B. I run Windows 7 Professional 64bit. I have following problems:- Windows 7 often does not boot right but starts CHKDSK which finds several wrong indexes and has to repair the file system.- Today I have copied 25GB of data onto my hard disk but some of the files were corrupted and I had to run CHKDSK to make them readable.- Once the Windows registry was corrupted somehow though I had not done anything to the registry so that I had to reinstall Windows. I have run PC-Doctor to make a diagnosis of the ssd and the total system and no errors were reported. Also the hard disk quick chek of my bios works without reporting any errors. On the downside of my notebook at the label of the serial number is written "DEMO" followed by the serial number. Also I can not find any documentation, driver or firmware updates for this TDK SSD! Now I am not sure if my ssd is somehow damaged and I do not know what the "DEMO" before my serial number means. Was the bargainer allowed to sell the notebook as a used notebook to me? Can you help me with this issue? If it is needed I can send you the serial number of my notebook. Regards Bojan Pounarov

Answer:Need Support: Thinkpad X300 with TDK SSD problems with the ssd

I got a strong suspicion that the SSD is only compatible with window XP. I had one of these non standard SSD before, it can't install vista from normal installation procedure, and when i finally got vista installed using image cloning, it would also boot up with random failure. The issue could be the driver or in worst case, the firmware on the SSD itself. My suggestion is to1) use an external usb casing and use another computer to write/retrieve data from it to see if the SSD is corrupted (my suspicion is that it is not). The best way is to ...2) backup all your data, boot into bios and switch Sata to compatible mode, reinstall win7 using 32bit and see if it is stable.

Hi there, i recently purchased a ThinkPad Yoga and it has been shiped out without a DIGITIZER PEN, therefore i need to know whether it will be possible to buy a optional Wacom pen, and will it support if i purchase it. or how to find whether it will support. the display of this notebook is - 12.5" (317.5mm) HD (1366x768) TFT color, smudgeless, 10-point touch screenLED backlight, 300 nits, 16:9 aspect ratio, IPS Thanks

Answer:ThinkPad Yoga Optional PEN Support

Hi RikaashYou should provide more information about your Yoga (Type Number from the back). If your Yoga has a digitizer input in addition to the touch input on the screen then some of the Wacom pens would work (I'm using a Wacom Bamboo Feel with my Yoga S240 20CD). But Lenovo sells some of its Yoga types in two versions, with digitizer and without. When your Yoga was delivered without a pen included, it's probably not "pen enabled". Neither a Lenovo pen nor a Wacom would work then.Regards,Stephan

I wanted to buy a W500 with a XP-downgrade (from Vista business 32), and wondered about getting full windows installation disks. Rang Lenovo and they said just to phone after receiving thinkpad, and we will send you both sets of disk out to you (no mention of any charge).W500 arrived, and came with Vista Business installed. No other disks. So rang and asked for 2 sets of installation disks. Lenovo said, fine, but will cost you $86 or so each. Then asked on how to install present Vista OS on new HD - told to use restore function to create set of CD's. 7 in all (took 13). Removed hard drive that came with the system and replaced it with SSD, after being formatted and checked - ran perfectly as external drive. Within the W500, it was not recognized. The dreaded Error 2100.Visited Lenovo web site and read some info on problems W500 etc having with some new drives. Hi, I have Thinkpad R61 laptop bought in the year 2008 with 3 yrs. warranty from an authorised Lenovo Reseller here in Bhubaneswar, Orissa, India. My laptop is still within warranty period and  I want to get it serviced by those people who I bought it from. But when I went there, they ask me to put in a service request at lenovo site for warranty support and service. From what I could make out of their instructions (which was not very clear), that once you put in a service request and/or lodge a complaint request with lenovo folks, they redirect your request to that particular reseller who you had originally bought your computer from. Then only your computer stands a chance of being looked at. Has anybody faced similar issues ? How did you go about it ?Could anybody help me out as to how to put in a service request at Lenovo website or how to register a complaint with Lenovo folks ? Thanks in advance,AnshumanBhubaneswar, Orissa, India
