Lenovo Yoga 720 15 - Fingerprint reader issue - WBDI synaptics driver - Windows Hello

Question: Lenovo Yoga 720 15 - Fingerprint reader issue - WBDI synaptics driver - Windows Hello

Hi, I have the Lenovo Yoga 720 15 IKB 80X7 (4K display), since many days ago, I'm currently posting this on 7-20-2017, the fingerprint of my laptop stopped working so now In the windows hello sign in menu it shows a message in which it says "Windows Hello is not available on this device", the fingerprint option doesn't appear there anymore. When I check the issue on the "update device drivers menu" an exclamation mark appears next to the synaptics drivers WBDI, in the section of biometric devices. When I click on it to see more information it appears this message: "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31){Operation Failed}The requested operation was unsuccessful." I show you in the picture the information I get in the driver tab. I do not have the option to roll back the driver so I can't make it work again. I checked and it is the last driver available so far but it doesn't work. By the way I have the same exclamation mark and the same message of error in the driver "system interface foundation driver", code 31..., is there any link with it?I've already re installed windows twice through the option "reset this pc" from the configuration menu, one without deleting my files and the other removing all, but I still had the same issue with the fingerprint reader since the beginning of the new start, it didn't work. Does anybody have the same issue and a solution? Thanks in advance

Preferred Solution: Lenovo Yoga 720 15 - Fingerprint reader issue - WBDI synaptics driver - Windows Hello

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The touchpad of my Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro is not working with Windows 8.1 or the newly installed Windows 10. It is neither recognised in the Device Manager, nor the Synaptics TouchPad Driver is listed among the installed programs in the Control Panel. Moreover, when I try to install the latest verion of this driver obtained from the Lenovo website, I am warned that "A previous version of the Synaptics TouchPad Driver is installed.", and that I should remove it first before continuing. If I try to install this version anyway, the installation is apparently successful, but I still cannot use the touchpad (nor the driver seems to be installed anywhere). What should I do to solve this annoying issue? Many thanks for your attention.

Are there files in the "C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP" folder? i had an issue where I couldn't uninstall the synaptics driver via settings and had to do it manually from an administrator command line. I used the following command: rundll32.exe "C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynISDLL.dll",standAloneUninstall Once you have it uninstalled does windows update try to install a driver on its own?

Hello, i am using the "none-lenovo" synaptics driver from the official synaptics website (http://drivers.synaptics.com/Synaptics_v17_0_19_C_XP32_Vista32_Win7-32_XP64_Vista64_Win7-64_Acme_Inc...It is working perfectly fine, but when turning the Y2P into tablet-mode, the touchpad is still active. Is there any way to automatically disable the touchpad (as it is disabled with the lenovo-driver) ? Thank you, tumas

The Fingerprint reader passes compatibility tests with DP, but the DP software will not recognize the reader. Now it doesnt look like I can just download a driver for the reader... Lenovo includes it's own software as well... My long involved question is: Can't I just download a driver for this thing without the add on software??? Thanks for any help offered, B

I just added a second finger print reader through the docking station for when I have the computer docked, but I am unable to enroll my fingerprints using it.  I am only able to get it to work through the laptop's built-in fingerprint reader.  Everything appears normal:It installed without a problem and appears as fuctioning normally under the device manager.  When I I open the Biometric Devices manager from the control panel it is listed as one of two biometric devices (the other one is the built in fingerprint reader on the laptop). it is listed as "Not enrolled" while the built-in sensor is listed as "Enrolled".When I click on "Use your fingerprint with windows" on the left panel and get the "More than one fingerprint reader was found. Touch the surface of the fingerprint reader that you want to you use." promp, it recognizes that I touched the external reader.I enter Lenovo's Fingerprint Manager Pro software and select a finger to enroll and takes me to the "swipe your finger ont he sensor" window. However:Once I try to swipe the finger ont he sensor, it wont recognize that I am trying to add the fingerprint.  The software reverts to searching for the finger swipe on the built-in sensor isntead of the external one.Thins I have tried that didn't work: 1. Hi all, Would love some help here. The fingerprint sensor suddenly, like literally suddenly stopped working all of a sudden. It was working maybe give and take about an hour before. I went into account settings under sign-in option to find that WINDOWS HELLO is not available for my device?! Then i went crazy all over the web trying to find a solution but to no avail. I have tried all kinds of method the web can find for me like:1) starting the cmd prompt and doing a system scan and health restore something like that which says the system is fine2)enabling the fingerprint driver in group policy3)updating the driver did not solve it4)reinstalling the driver does not help at all5)updating the laptop6)going into BIOS but could not find the driver anywhere7)renabling the driver there was no previous updates to the driver at all, it just stopped working and therefore i cannot do a rollback of the update to a previous version. o and after doing all these, i still cannot get it to work. Is there something wrong probably with the hardware?I just got the laptop about a month or so, hope this is just temporary as i quite like how this laptop is functioning for me now and would love the fingerprint function to be back. Sincerely,A lost carpex

After upgrading my Lenovo T500 (2081CTO) from Windows XP to Windows 7 I cannot enable the fingerprint reader on my Lenovo Preferred Pro USB keyboard. The internal ThinkPad fingerprint reader works, but not the keyboard's fingerprint reader although both are listed as working in device manager. I've installed the "Lenovo Preferred Pro USB Fingerprint Keyboard Hotkey Driver for Windows 8, 7, Vista and XP - ThinkCentre, ThinkStation, Lenovo 62 Desktop" and "TouchChip (Fingerprint) patch driver for Windows 7" downloads from the Lenovo support website, but how does one tell Win7 to enable *both* fingerprint readers?--Thanks, Glenn Gillis

Hello all,

I've just purchased a M10-17H and updated the system to Windows 7 64 bits.
I've used the drivers [posted by Toshiba|http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/jsp/supportMyProduct.do?].

So everything has been recognized correctly apart the Fingerprint reader and a PCI Simple Communications Controller.

I've tried the driver provided in the link above (also the uninstaller after installing the driver) to no use.
When windows 7 was installed (fresh install) the reader wasn't recognized either.

I've also installed the [Authentec 64bits beta driver|http://www.authentec.com/win7beta64.cfm] again to no avail.

Does anyone know about driver availability?

Thank you,

Best regards,

Pedro

Answer:Tecra M10 and Windows 7 64-bits - Fingerprint reader driver

Try the M10 fingerprint driver from this website: http://support.toshiba-tie.co.jp/windows7/drivers_au.htm

I had the PCI Simple Communications Controller device on my laptop, it turned out to be Intel AMT.

Hello:I have ThinkPad W540; and I have upgraded to Windows 10 Pro. I have also done a System Reset: a full reset, clearing users files and apps. I then ran Windows Update until all updates came down; and installed all Windows 10 64-bit drivers from Lenovo for the W540; and ran Windows update until all updates finished. The fingerprint reader is having problems. I kept getting Windows Blue Screens, with:PC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATIONerrors; and after trying to get information from the dump files, I discovered that it seemed to be the fingerprint driver. I deleted the driver, and the blue screens have stopped. So it appears that the driver on the Lenovo support site has problems. In addition to the blue screens, the computer would wait for 30+ seconds on startup with a black screen ... and then either complete startup with no fingerprint reader options avialable; or else blue screen. So I hve deleted the driver; and the delay on startup, and the blue screens have stopped. The Windows Device Manager shows a yellow Alert icon on the Synaptics FP Sensors device. When I select Update Driver Software, and Search Automatically, Windows tells me the latest driver is already installed (this is all after having deleted the driver, restarted, and I have NOT installed any driver from Lenovo or anywhere else for the device). So I can't use the FP reader ... and it is clear that the driver on the Lenovo support site is causing blue screens.Any help?

Hi all, The subject. Windows Log-in time takes too much time. Vefore it was like: Swipe finger - x220 starts - automatically goes through HDD and Master Password authorization - Windows starts - Fingerprint software starts - Automatically logs me in to the system- another 3-5 seconds until all software loads completely and I can start to work. Now it is like: Swipe finger - x220 starts - automatically goes through HDD and Master Password authorization - Windows starts - Fingerprint Software starts (5-6 sec longer than before) - Process of authorization (another 4-5 secs) - Login screen disappears and gray screen appears instead (another 4-5 secs) - Blank windows desktop (2-3 secs) - Another 3-5 secsonds until all software loads completely and I can start to work. Before it was very quick, probably 8 seconds from Fingerprint software start and to complete software load. I have SSD installed and it's S.M.A.R.T. is OK. I have tried to uninstall Fingerprint reader software and driver and start windows conventionally using my password. I have got my 8 seconds form Login screen to ready, so i assume the problem is in Fingerprint reader. What can I do? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Probably Fingerprint Reader Issue. Windows Log-in takes too long. Windows Home Pro x64. X220 i7

I checked it here on some test systems and I'm not seeing any delay like that.  On my systems, it's like your "before" scenario.

I'm not really following what you are saying with the "after" scenario, especially the parts about the gray screen and blank windows desktop.  So can you take a video of the complete boot and post it?  Maybe it will help me understand what is happening.

If you can remember when this started happening, look in Control Panel -> Programs and Features and sort by install date.  See if you can find a software install/update that happened around the time you first noticed this problem.  I would be especially suspicious about anti-virus and security software.  And make sure you don't have RapidBoot installed on your system.   http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht075364

The fingerprint software (ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software) hasn't been updated in more than a year, so I don't think fingerprint software itself is causing this.  Probably it is interference from another application.

Is it possible to use the X1-Yoga fingerprint reader (that works for system logins through Windows Hello) to authenticate on websites?  If it will not work natively, is there some other program that will do this? The following link seems to indicate that it IS supported...but not on Windows 10. https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht037692 Thanks.

So, I've gone through this cycle several (too many) times over the month of owning this laptop. I'll save several fingerprint profiles (the first 2 fingers on each hand). But whenever I try to log in and happen to "misfire" with my finger and get the alternative login prompt, I find that I can no longer use that particular finger any longer in futire attempts, as if it's chosen to "forget" that profile. But I can use any of the other fingers I've saved just fine. Problem only seems to be corrected by resaving the "forgotten" finger as a new profile again. I honestly may be assuming incorrectly that this is initiated by a "misfire" (and by that I mean not landing my finger precisely on the sensor, picking up too fast, whatever). It might be that the attempt didn't cause the profile to be lost, but that it was lost for some other reason and the attempt was just the first failed attempt. All I know is that it happens.

Hi everyone,
Windows 10 updated itself to the Creators Update this week and I notice that my Fingerprint Senor will not work after sleep mode.
When I check the Device Manager it disappeared from device manager and if I choose the show hidden device it says the Synaptics VFS7552 Touch Fingerprint Sensor is disconnected.

I have updated the latest driver from Dell webpage and problem is persists. The only way to "fix" it is to reboot the Laptop and the Fingerprint Sensor will work but when it goes to sleep it will disconnect itself again.

Do anyone know how to fix this issue?
Thanks.

This is the second major problem with my X1 Yoga. Not only does the touchscreen driver crash "all the time" but the fingerprint reader does not operate about 30% of the time. Not sure what the cause/effect is because it's not consistent. For instance the light above it sometimes comes on and you can unlock the device. Other times it doesn't and it either works or doesn't. So the light is not consistent with it being ready to unlock. Other times perhaps from sleep or screensaver having locked the machine the only way in is via the password.  As suggested by Leonvo support I installed the latest drivers. But it's made zero difference.http://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/ThinkPad-X-Series-laptops/ThinkPad-X1-...

I am using a Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro 1370 running Windows 10. The touchscreen never fails to work but the touchpad however causes a lot of problems. It will randomly stop working when I am using it, often when opening my laptop or when right clicking, but often without any apparent cause as well. One temporary method I have found that somtimes fixes the issue is to go into the HIDs in Device Manager and disable/re-enable the 9CE1 I2C HID Device. Sometimes this option will have a yellow triangle indicating that the device will not start and display this message in the driver properties:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)
A request for the HID descriptor failed.

Other times however there is no acknowledgement of driver issues and attempting to enable the devie will cause the device manager to not respond, restarting my PC in recovery mode after a "DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE" message and wiping my recent files. I have tried everything from uninstalling/reinstalling the driver, updating the BIOS and disabling the driver to boot in safe mode. When updating the driver software through the device manager, it says the latest version is installed: The driver version is 10.0.10586.0, it says it is from 2006-06-21.

Has anyone else had this issue before with their Yoga? Anyone know a solution?

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

Hello, I have had a Lenovo Yoga 2 11 for 3 weeks and in that time since installing only Photoshop and Office, it has had periodic bouts of freezing. Freezing where the cursor does not work, where ctl+alt+del does not work, it is totally non-responsive requiring manual shut down. Looking for solutions here online, some suggestion were that it was driver issues for other people. I uninstalled some programs that were said to have helped in this thread https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Idea-Windows-based-Tablets-and/Yoga-2-Pro-Freezing-BSODs-and-restarting... I am still experiencing issues Some advice in non-technincal terms would be much appreciated.

I have this machine dual-booting Windows 10 Enterprise and Home. I set up fingerprints on both operating systems, and they both lose my FP's after reboot. The Win10 Ent OS is bitlocked, if that matters. It acts like it isn't even looking at fingerprints when I try to log in. Like, it doesn't say "Fingerprint not recognized" or anything. I log in with PIN then add a FP, then lock Windows and try to log in with new FP and it works. If I try to log in with an existing FP of another finger, it says not recognized, so it's acting like I have no fingerprints added every time I reboot. Not sure if this has something to do with dual-booting and one OS being bitlocked, but that's the only idea I have so far. The FP reader worked fine when only Win10 Home was installed. I have the latest driver installed.

Answer:T400 with Intel X4500HD graphics driver problem, also fingerprint reader driver

Hi elu, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

Just checkin something: Lenovo driver installs often require two steps 1. Extract 2. Install. When you double click on the download the drivers are extracted, usually to a directory under C:\DRIVERS. You then go to that directory and run the installer, usually setup.exe. The directory and install method can vary - check the installation instructions. Are you doing both steps?

Hy,It's my first post here. I got a LENOVO t500 at work to use and I wanted to try to use finger print auth to log in. Its in a domain, but I got local administrator privileges on it. The machine runs 64bit Windows 8.1 Pro.The fingerprint reader driver was missing in the first place (windows identified it as a fingerprint sensor but had no driver). The sensor is an AuthenTec Inc, AES2810. I've tried to install the lenovo driver:http://support.lenovo.com/en/downloads/ds034486But received the error message in the subject about I need to enable the biometric framework.I've also seenhttp://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T420-Windows-8-1-fingerprint-reader/m-p/124...and downloaded-installed an authentec driver successfully, so now device manager shows it and identifies it as it should.. Well I've went to the group policies as it was suggeseted everywhere on the net and turned on the options.I've also checked and found a windows services that had biometrics in it : I've set it to auto-start and started it right away. But even after all of this the fingerprint option is missing in the accounts sign in page in pc settings.I've restarted the machine multiple times (with the real restart )Could you please give me a hint?I've spent a whole day looking for this yesterday.. Have a nice day & Regards,Steve

Hello all,  I recently bought a new L512 off of Woot.com (they had a phenomenal deal).  By and large I love it.  However, I've been having consistent issue with the fingerprint reader.  It works great for a short period of time after a reboot (hours, not days), and then simply isn't picked up by Windows.  I can't use it to register a fingerprint, log in to anything, etc.  In both Windows' and Lenovo's software applications, they report that there is no fingerprint reader connected/installed, or that it is in use by another program. Thanks for the help for the Lenovo newbie!Walsh416

OK here we go....... i have a dell studio 1735, windows vista ultimate 32bit edition, it has a biometric fingerprint reader and the moment i got the laptop, it doesn't work, i have installed the latest updates from the dell website using my service tag number: FXKWV3J  I've checked internally to see if the driver is connected into the motherboard, and yes it was connected, so no problem there, I've checked device manager, even through driver agent to see if there were any unknown drivers, none at all, plus the driver is clearly installed "Authentec" and shows it is working correctly, one other thing is that  i need to know is if there is like something in services that is stopping the biometric fingerprint reader from working. Please if you can provide me with all the right drivers and software needed to actually make the biometric fingerprint reader work! Thanks!Sharpe89

There might be a potential issue with the new finger print reader driver/software.  what you can try doing is removing the version you have and install the version in your C:/SWTOOL folder if you have it

Hello, last week I bought a brand new Yoga 2 13".It came with Windows 8.1 preinstalled and I immediatly upgraded it to Windows 10 (after the update I did a clean install).Everything work flawlessly... except for a "little" issue: when I cold boot the computer and I get to Windows 10 lock screen, if I try to unlock the screen by touching or clicking the touchpad (Synaptics) 8 out of 10 times I get a windows blue screen (DCP_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION).When the computer reboots, if I'm lucky I can touch the touchpad and login but if not I get another blue screen. Usually at the third reboot everything goes fine. The problem seems to happen more frequently at first boot anyway. After I manage to login everything works perfectly, not a single issue. After a lot of investigations I figured out that if at lock screen I don't touch the touchpad but I unlock by using the keyboard (or an external mouse if connected), things works as expected without any BSOD.I even booted a Linux distro to be sure, and with that I can use the touchpad whenever I want without any troubles. So, given these evidences it must be a problem with Synaptics Touchpad drivers... I'm actually using version 19.0.13.0 that I got through Windows Update, which is the same version for Windows 10 available at Lenovo Support Site for my model.I have used Windows 8.1 for just few minutes, so I'm not sure if it has the same issue (even tried another Win 10 clean install). Has anyone faced the same problem? Is there a fix for t... Read more

Answer:Yoga 2 + Win10 + Synaptics driver = BSOD

A small update 15 days later... Although the issue seems to happen more frequently at lock screen, I experienced few random BSOD even during normal usage (and as a coincidence they happend immediately after touching touchpad). Proably this model is not "really" Windows 10 ready (yet). I don't know if this happens in Windows 8.1 to but I don't want to waste time rolling back to it and hoping it will work... so I ended up installing Ubuntu 15.04: I've been using it for a week now and everything seems to be working flawlessly.

Hi everyone, I've recently purchased the Lenovo Yoga 710 14 inch and wanted to change the touchpad settings to disable some gestures that I find annoying. The mouse settings and additional settings work fine, but when I click on settings, the Synaptic Control Panel window opens for a split second and then immediately closes again, making it impossible to change the gesture settings. I've updated the touchpad driver multiple times without luck. Anyone know how to solve this issue?

Hello Lenovo Community, I have a W510 Thinkpad (4391-A72) running on Windows 7 Professional (32-bit). Most recently, a power failure happened to this unit when the computer was dislodged from the docking station. It has been loose for some time but I have to just deal with it. Everything seems to be working fine, however, my fingerprint reader does not seem to be working at all. Even when the computer is powered down (but still attached to the docking station with the AC power on OR when connected to a battery), the fingerprint sensor does not light up as it was supposed to always do for pre-desktop authentication. However, in the Device Manager, the fingerprint sensor driver is found and is listed as TouchChip Fingerprint Compressor Device. Under Biometric Devices, the same driver is displayed BUT it is listed as "unavailable". When the ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software is launched, OR at the Windows Login Screen, both display the following error message:"Could not locate the fingerprint sensor device." I have attempted to uninstall and reinstall the ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software, removed and reinstalled the Fingerprint drivers, reset Internal Fingerprint Data from the BIOS and even changed the power state of the fingerprint sensor from Enabled to Disabled and back to Enabled again, but none of them seem to work at all! Does this mean that my fingerprint sensor was fried by that power failure, or is there another problem bugging the fingerpr... I have received a laptop from a former employee and the z60t has the fingerprint reader on it.  The employee stated he removed his profile from the computer.  Now we cannot even log on to the laptop.  The fingerprint reader comes on and will not let me past it.  I have pressed the Think advantage button and does no good, I press the ESC button and then it wants a password, which the employee states he did not set up.  Any advice on how to get to the bios screen to overwrite the fingerprint reader software?

After about a month into using my X61s, the fingerprint reader has suddenly become hot - though not enough to cause burns it is uncomfortably hot.Let me clarify that I never use the fingerprint reader and do not have the driver for it installed. (The fingerprint reader was no longer optional when I bought my X61s.)The heat problem arose right after I restarted the laptop after it crashed following a igxprd32 display driver error. I don't know if there's a link there.OS is XP Pro service pack 3. Video is Intel 965.Internet searches brought up only linux users with this problem, on computer programming forums. Not very helpful to me.There was the possibility that it might be the wireless card - below the fingerprint reader ? - that was causing the heat. I tried turning off the wireless card, but the heat remains.I went into BIOS and disabled the fingerprint option, for what it's worth. That didn't work either.I also read that the heat could be due to the USB device not being autosuspend enabled - ie. the fingerprint reader is on all the time - but I'm not sure how I might go about enabling the autosuspend for the fingerprint reader.Any other suggestions for resolving this frustrating problem would be appreciated. [X-posted on forum.thinkpads.com]

The fingerprint reader on my three day old W520 with factory installed Win 7 OS has stopped working. It worked fine last night on battery, but will not work today on battery or AC. I've made no changes to the system at all since last night. BIOS indicates the biometric device is enabled but I see no indication of it in device manager. Windows also reports it does not see any biometric devices. The green light on the left side of the fingerprint scanner remains solid green at all times whether the PC is on or off. When I start ThinkVantage fingerprint software, I get the E7210005 error code "Cannot find fingerprint sensor device." I thought maybe Windows or Power Manager turned off the fingerprint reader while running on battery to save power, but I've checked both and see no indication of the fingerpint reader/biometric devices anywhere in power settings. Anyone have any ideas? Thank you, Scott

I was messing around again with my wireless driver (see the never-ending "yoga 13 wifi issues" thread) and decided to look around for a newer touchpad driver too.  I found this one that also appears to work for the Yoga 13: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS031456 Note:After you download and run the 0wto09w8.exe, the Setup.exe program will fail with the error message "This product is not manufactured by Quanta Computer".You must manually run dpinst.exe in C:\Drivers\Synaptics Touchpad Driver\Synaptic\WinWDF\x64.This driver version is "Synaptics Pointing Device v16.3.4.29Nov 12" vs. "Synaptics Pointing Device v16.2.21.3", the latest available on the Yoga 13 driver downloads page.  The release notes are dated Nov 29, 2012 vs. the Nov 6, 2012 for the older driver but list a lot of changes between the 16.3 and 16.2 versions, too many to list here (See C:\Drivers\Synaptics Touchpad Driver\Synaptic\Release.txt). I don't usually use my Yoga 13 in tablet mode, but I did a simple test and this new driver appears to still disable the touchpad in tablet mode.  I don't know of any other special touchpad behaviors for the Yoga -- Please comment if you notice anything inappropriate with this new driver. I didn't actually notice any different or better behavior with this driver.  But a newer driver version MUST be better... Right?

Did an in place upgrade from vista HPbit 32 to 7 HP 32bit on an HP pavilion dv2626 - everything went smoothly (only 2 hours), but now the fingerprint reader (Authentec AES2501A) doesn't work. Windows update got a new driver, but then when I clicked the link to register fingerprints in the Biometric section of CP, an error pops up that "truesuite.fpr has stopped working" so it turns out the updated driver installs an app as well. And yet I thought W7 was supposed to support biometric devices natively. When I uninstall this driver and install the old vista one, I then get the message that W7 cannot detect a fingerprint reader (even though it shows up in Device Manager as working properly).

At one point I rolled back the driver to an earlier version, and W7 then told me that it could find no application to register fingerprints with, and I would need to obtain one from the device manufacturer (again, I thought W7 was supposed to do this by itself). I'm running out of ideas. Oh yeah, the other one is, whenever I uninstall a driver to try a different one, then do a reboot, W7 installs a new driver automatically, so how do I stop that?

I contacted Authentec already and they were arrogantly unhelpful (windows update will fix your problems is all they said).

Anyone having similar problems and found some solutions?

Answer:Authentec fingerprint reader driver/app?

Hi,

I have an Acer 5942G and recently had to reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium. This of course meant reinstalling all the drivers. All of them so far have installed without a hitch, except for one.

My laptop has a fingerprint reader, so I downloaded the drivers from here

Acer | Download

However when I go to install it the installsheild wizard just seems to hang on the "Acer Bio Protection is configuring your new software installation" part. It just stays like that forever, I even left it for just over an hour and nothing.

It is extremely frustrating and I cant seem to fix it no matter what I do. My "FingerPrinter Reader" does go from an unregognized device in Device Manager to "Secure Biometric Device", but that is all it seems to do.

Can anyone offer a solution?

Thanks

Hello, I purchased a X121e notebook at Lenovo directly; it's of type 3045-CTO and has a fingerprint reader. I installed Windws 7 x64 from scratch and loaded all drivers, but I can't find the driver for the fingerprint reader on the driver download website. Please, could someone help me to find this driver / software? Many thanks.

Answer:X121e: Driver for the fingerprint reader

Hi saxa,

Download and run System Update and it should find your driver.  Read the directions. You'll need MS Net.Framework to make it work.

See if there is anything in the bios under the security settings for turning on the fingerprint reader.  Make sure it's on if there is.

I have a basically brand new Latitude E6440 that I recently applied the W10 upgrade to, which disables the ability to login to windows via the fingerprint reader and contactless smartcard using Dells Security Tools. I understand the login authentication is now handled by "Windows Hello".After setting a PIN in Sign-in options and enrolling fingerprints in "Windows Hello", I am still unable to login using the fingerprint reader - no option for this appears at the login screen despite "Windows Hello" apparently being correctly setup.  I have updated all of the drivers & Dell Security tools. Dell has advised me that they will not assist with this without additional payment.  Has anyone encountered this issue, and does anyone know if the ability to login with a smartcard will be restored under Windows 10?  Thanks.

Answer:[solved] E6440 fingerprint reader, "windows hello" issue

Removing Security tools and Control Vault drivers, then reinstalling the drivers, followed by re-installation of ST v1.9.1.1209 resolved these issues, including smartcard functionality.

You have to set the apporiate connection between the software and Microsoft inbuilt system by going into the Control center of the Lenovo fingerprint software, make sure that the fingerprint overrrides all Microsoft power on passwords. Also make sure you are doing under administration privilege and select option to make it applicable for all users.

I am having an issue with my fingerprint reader not working when coming from standby mode sometimes. What is the software that is for the fingerprint reader? Someone said to revert back how do I do this? My plan is to revert back then to install the new fingerprint reader software. What do you guys think on this matter? The issue goes as follows: Sometimes when I come back from Standby the fingerprint reader says "Fingerprint reader is not connected".

Answer:Fingerprint reader issue/queston (Please read).

I have the same issue on my T61p, when left in standby for an extended amount of time, say 20 min, I find that it either says my finger print reader is not connected or it is "Fingerprint sensor device is exclusively used by another application." This started happening when I updated my driver and software for the reader, it worked fine before this. But I have been unable to go back to the previous driver and software. It works if you pust switch user on the login screen to get it to work, but it would be nice if a differnt solution was out there.

My X1 Carbon 20a8 somehow didn't have fingerprint reader by default, I installed the Software, and the software says "The device is not connected to computer"... what does that mean? Could my X1 been configured without the fingerprint reader? or is there another issue? Lenovo help/support as always is absolutely USELESS, their support people seem to ONLY KNOW what's posted online and send instructions to PDF and vidoes!

I have a Lenovo T510 (4313CTO) system that until recently worked just perfectly. After I know not what - I have checked the Windows Update log, etc. - now, when booting, when the system reaches the Windows logon screen, the usual 'Please wait' message is displayed, but after maybe 30s of that, it reads 'No attempt to start this service has been made since the last boot'. This error only occurs on a fresh boot. When logging out and in again, it works correctly. I use the SSO function, so one finger swipe unlocks the hard drive and should log into Windows. The first BIOS swipe works fine, i.e. it cannot be a hard ware problem. After a little research, I reckon this 'service' that is not starting is upeksvr.exe, given pg. 66 of this Lenovo CSS document. The particular error message I believe is a Windows system error, no. 1077 given this MSDN article. After removing all of the Lenovo Fingerprint software and all fingerprint data, upgrading FPRS, downgrading, and having trawled the net for solutions to no avail, I have not had any success. A call to Lenovo yielded no help either (no surprise there...) I would really appreciate any help you can offer, to save me from having to reinstall the system!

Answer:Lenovo T510 (4313CTO) fingerprint reader not working at first login

I had a similar problem, the first time I occurred after a Windows Update.  This time I formatted and made a fresh Windows 7 installation.  The next time the same happened again after I updated the system using the "Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update". When I tried to open the Fingerprint software directly the following message appeared ?The dependency service or group failed to start" and the Error Code E7210001 appeared in details. This time I discovered in another forum while searching for another problem ( "Devices and Printers" did not load) that the problem was due to one of the services was disabled, the Credential Manager service. To correct this just type in Start the following: services.exe Look for the service: Credential Manager In properties the Startup type should be set to "Automatic" Press Ok and the next time you restart the computer the Fingerprint reader should work. Hope this solves your problem.

I just recently upgraded from Vista Business 32-bit to Vista Ultimate 64-bit and after installing all the drivers and whatnot, I noticed the only thing not working is the fingerprint reader. I'm using Lenovo Fingerprint Software Version: 3.3.2.27 which is the right version. I can't seem to find the driver for the fingerprint reader ANYWHERE for Vista 64-bit. Is the driver included in the software? Do I have to download it separately? If so, where? If not, then why isn't it working?!

Purchased my computer in July 2012. Fingerprint reader and BioExcess were working fine. Nothing special was changed on my PC except installing normal packaged software from other vendors. Sevearl days ago the fingerprint reader stopped reading. Swiping does not do anyting. I do not get an error message or an indication that the swipe did not work or anything like that. It just does nothing. I cannot open the BioExcess software program. Since I cannot swipe, I cannot open it that way. When I try to access the BioExcess software by using my password, the program "dings" but does not open. I do not get any error message. I only get an error message if I intentionally enter the wrong password.Otherwise the program "dings" and teh dialog box disappears. Please help.

Try to reinstall the bioexcess sofrware. Reply with result. It would be D drive or download from support site.

Based on threads on the fingerprint reader topic, I downloaded the new software 3.2.0.275 and followed the readme instructions to install, while loged in as Administrator.  However, about 25% into "deleting services" i get the following error message: Error 1922.Service Authen Tech Fingerprint Service (AT Service) could not be deleted.    Some additional background.  This is a new T500.  I implemented the Fingerprint Service and it worked fine for two days.  Suddenly and randomly, it just stopped working.  I disabled the service and re-enabled it but when I attempt to enroll a fingerprint, it gives me the "cannot communicate with sensor" error msg.   Can someone please suggest a next move here?  Thanks!

More information can be found at the original post by S1148625 over at Thinkpads. http://forums.thinkpads.com/~thinkpad/forum/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=95573&start=0 UEFI doesn't support fingerprint readers - yet. (I suppose this is true for all 2011 Thinkpads) I have a T420, replaced the original HDD with an SSD, tried to clone from the HDD to SSD but it didn't work. So I changed BIOS to UEFI only and tried to install windows from the Recovery discs. UEFI refused to see the recovery discs. (Lenovo also confirmed that the recovery discs don't work with UEFI). Finally, I installed Windows Professional 64 bit - a clean install. Installed SP1, Thinkvantage System Update, and installed nearly all of Lenovo's updates. Joined the domain and everything worked just fine. All except the fingerprint reader, which gave three errors, each with the error code E7210005. I spoke with Lenovo Tech Support today. They confirmed that the current version of UEFI does not support the fingerprint reader. They are working on a fix, but have no release date. Other than that, my T420 works perfectly. I've spent nearly all of 2 work days trying to make this fingerprint reader work. Knowing that it's beyond my control is actually a relief. During the 50+ restarts in the past 2 days, the T420 always booted in less than 30 seconds. That's including the time it takes to pound out a 12+ character password, arrive at the desktop and have a ready mouse pointer (not a mouse pointer with a sp... Read more

Answer:Fingerprint reader is not compatible with UEFI - Lenovo Tech Support confirms

Wow, you are really on the cutting edge with UEFI!  Even though the BIOS option exists for UEFI boot, there are still several kinks that need to be worked out, and fingerprint support is just one of them.  We are actively working on these things, and UEFI preloads and recovery disks should be coming later this year. If you come across other UEFI-specific issues, please let us know here in the forums!

Or should I say they suddenly stopped working under windows. I am using windows xp sp2 and have been using this laptop on the same installation of Windows for about 6 months now.. no problems at all.. till now. This morning when i turned on my laptop, the first thing i noticed that the fingerprint reader was not working.. It was not giving me any response at all.. so i logged in with my password.. Then while using the internet the wifi got disconnected from the router and after that it refused to work no matter what I do.. It gets stuck on "acquiring network adress" but when i gave a static ip, like 192.168.1.232 it gets connected but i dont get any data from the router.. it shows offline mode.. also the wifi gets disabled and then enabled by itself multiple times.. I had to turn it off..  -The router is fine.. my acer aspir 5315 and my nokia connects with the router via wi fi without any problems... - Also I tried using the wifi under ubuntu linux and it works there.. meaning the net works wirelessly without any problems in ubuntu but it refuses to connect in windows xp.. I could not try the fingerprint reader in ubuntu since it is not supported by linux yet. I tried removing the drivers and reinstalling the software+drivers.. but that did not help... any ideas as to what may have caused this? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.. I dont want to do a re-install of windows.. Help

I'm using Windows 10 64-bit system, and have used it for over a year with no problems. This problem started kinda weird out. I was watching a movie, and I paused it to go take a smoke. I came back five minutes later and now I couldn't move the cursor from the touchpad, or barely. I tried deleting the synaptics driver and installing the latest version quite a few times. Here's the thing though, the touchpad works without the driver, though sometimes left click, and right clicking doesn't work, however I'm still able to move the cursor. When I install the synaptics touchpad driver left click and right click works, but I am not really able to move the cursor. I can see the touchpad respons to the pressure of my fingers moving across it, but it doesn't move the cursor along the screen or only a small amount.  I have tried different prressures on the touchpad, but with no luck. The problem occurred a few hours ago.

Hi,

I'm the owner of a Qosmio X500-11D laptop and i ran in some problems lately:

1. After installing the windows 7 the fingerprint reader worked flawlessly for about a month but now the logon screen of windows 7 doesn't show the option to login with the fingerprint and when i try to start the toshiba fingerprint utility it gives an error cannot connect to sensor.

The strange thing is that under Device Manager i cannot find the finger print sensos; windows just does not detect it. I've tried reinstalling the drivers and the software, i have updated the bios but nothing works.

2. The camera on the laptop it is installed correctly(the driver says is ok) but when using it the image is all black. I have to mention that the blue light goes on when using the camera.

I've tried to find a solution to the fingerprint issue here o the forum but nothing was at help, hope someone knows how to solve it.

Answer:Qosmio X500-11D: Fingerprint reader issue and webcam problem

Well, I?m sure that this notebook model X500-11D supports fingerprint sensor.
Please set the BIOS to default settings and check if there is an BIOS setting which could enable or disable the fingerprint sensor.

> 2. The camera on the laptop it is installed correctly (the driver says is ok) but when using it the image is all black. I have to mention that the blue light goes on when using the camera.

I had the same issue. In my case the room was too dark and the cam didn?t work ok. I had to overspread the webcam lens and after I removed my finger from the webcam, the webcam has worked again. Note; the room was very bright and the sensor could catch the environment. I?m not sure if this would help you. Maybe you will need to uninstall the webcam software before trying this procedure?

I just upgraded to Windows 10 and upgraded my synaptics driver to their windows 10 version. Only trouble is the little red light in the corner is always on. The light is only supposed to come on if the trackpad has been disabled but the trackpad is working and the light is on. On top of that the double tap the corner function that turns the trackpad on and off doesn't seem to be an option with this version of the driver.

I managed to find a registry hack to get chiral scrolling to work again but can't seem to find/enable the corner double tap and rid myself of this stupid light.

ETA: Okay weirder still the light is reversed, when I plug in my USB mouse the light goes out and the trackpad is disabled.

I've been using Yoga 720 15 about a week and Synaptics fingerprint sensor worked well. Recently I tried to use it to log in, but there was no sign of Windows Hello working. I tried to update fingerprint driver, but no use Has anyone faced the same problem?

Are you running XP? That driver you have installed looks like the driver for XP. If you made a mistake by installing an XP driver, on a W7 OS, you can fix your error. Just install the TouchPad Driver 15.3.31.1 found here: http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/us/en/DriversDownloads/drivers_list.aspx?CategoryID=867235 Cheers!  DragonRider

On my Dell Studio 1735 laptop I have been running with Vista Ultimate x32 since I got it - yes - the <gasp> factory load!

Everything worked flawlessly under that factory load.

I decided yesterday to install Vista Ultimate x64 after having downloaded all drivers from Dell's website that I needed (made sure to download the x64 specific drivers).

After installing, all drivers went in normally, but, the fingerprint reader (even though it's recognized in the control panel and services for it are running) doesn't give me the option of using it to logon to Windows or into any websites or anything else.

I tried removing and reinstalling the drivers - no change.

There is no GUI to enable/disable it that I can find. I've gone through the Program Files folder that it's installed into but nothing showing as an executable.

Anyone have any helpful insight?

Thanks in advance!

I have a T460s on a fresh install of Win10. I just bought an external USB fingerprint reader https://www.amazon.com/Fingerprint-PQI-Matching-Biometric-Security/dp/B06XG4MHFJ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&....My hope was that when my laptop was docked (on a ThinkPad Pro dock), I could plug it into a USB port on my external keyboard and login using it. For the time being, I'm just trying to get it working with the laptop undocked (i.e. forget about external keyboards, USB hubs etc.). Starting from scratch (i.e. fingerprints cleared in both Windows and the BIOS, and the external USB NOT plugged in), I setup the internal fingerprint reader, add prints, and am able login with no problem. When I plug in the external reader, drivers install just fine.  I enrolled a different finger, and was able to login just fine. However, when I unplug the external USB reader, I am never able to get the internal reader working again.  With the external unplugged and after a full restart, the internal will still not let me log in: the fingerprint option doesn?t even show up at the Windows login screen. The only way I can get the internal working again is by plugging the external in again (so that it appears in Device Manager), uninstalling both fingerprint devices (just uninstalling the external USB does not work), restarting the computer, and reenrolling my fingerprint using the internal. I know there is an option in the BIOS to just use the internal re...
