I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Model:  4389-AN4O/S:  Win 7 64bitW Series DockDisplayPort Connection (also happens using VGA and or DVI)BIOS:  1.27/1.32Monitor:  Lenovo L2440x During power up, power on password screen does not display.  Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.  I've tried modifying the settings in the bios for which monitor it boots to first, and that doesn't seem to fix the issue either. Sometimes I do get a display, but the screen looks horrible.  I've checked cables (even swapped them). Suggestion?  We were able to recreate this on 2 W510's (same config). Jim P.S.  If I can provide any additional data please let me know.  I often just type in my power on password and eventually the monitor comes on and I get my windows log in prompt.

As mentioned in the title I have both pieces of hardware.  I also just purchased a third Dell U2414H LCD monitor.  I am trying to connect all 3 via display port.  However it seems that all I can do is 2 monitors?  When I try to daisychain them I got 2 monitors mirroring each other and one through HDMI off the laptop.

Is this a physical limitation of the replicator?  Is there a firmware update somewhere?

Answer:Dell Latitude E6520 & E-Port Plus 2 - Display port issue

The E6520 comes with Intel HD Graphics 3000.  The specs for that GPU are buried in the specs for the CPU itself, but if you go to ark.intel.com and look up your CPU, then scroll down to the graphics section and verify that it shows Intel HD Graphics 3000, you'll find that that GPU only supports 2 independent displays, which is why you see mirroring.  More recent Intel GPUs do indeed support 3 displays, but no Intel GPUs to my knowledge yet support 4.
If your E6520 has the NVIDIA discrete GPU, I can't find any information on NVIDIA's site about maximum number of supported displays, but based on your experience I would assume it's 2 unless indicated otherwise.

Hello, everyone.
I am using a Latitude 3540 laptop with switchable graphics (Intel HD Graphics, AMD Radeon HD 8850M). As soon as I got the laptop, I upgraded to 8.1 (probably a mistake!).
All of my drivers are up to date according to Device Manager, and I've updated the chipset and BIOS and everything according to the Dell website. But for as long as I've had this laptop, the VGA port will not work! I'm using a VGA cord that has worked with other laptops before without issue. The laptop will not output to projector, external monitor, or a TV. Pressing the win-P combination brings up the ability to extend and duplicate my screen. When I change those settings, my screen resolution will change, but the external monitor/projector doesn't display anything. When I try to detect displays in my graphics properties, it just doesn't detect anything that's connected.
Is my VGA port faulty? Or does anyone have any suggestions on what else to try at this point? My laptop is still under warranty, so I suppose I could always send it in to be fixed.
Thanks for the help!

I already have the issue that when I put my E5570 to sleep and wake it up again that the keyboard and touchpad do not work. So I have disable the sleep options in the BIOS.
Now I run into different issues.Yesterday I booted the laptop and it hang on the DELL logo, After a while it stated that my EFI file would not be correct. Force reboot and it booted straight to Windows.
What's more annoying is the fact that the laptop boot, the DELL logo is shown and then the screens go's black, as if it's not connected. SO it looks like it hangs.BUT an external monitor through HDMI does work and show the windows logon. The keyboard and touchpad also do not work.External mouse and keyboard do work.
So pretty much I got a brick when I do not have external display/keyboard and mouse available.
When I reboot the laptop it works fine again.Am I the only one with this?Loads of issues with the laptop and wondering if I just have a faulty laptop...

Answer:Latitude E5570 - Black display, no resons to keyboard/touchpad - External display/keyboard/mouse do work

I have been spending a lot of hours in troubleshooting this week.
Diagnostics are 100% ok.
Reinstalled Windows 10 about 15 times.Installing drivers by hands, installing drives trhough the dell update management application. The issues keeps existing.
To sum the them up:- Cold boot (laptop is off) to Windows. Keyboard/Touchpad do not work. (Reboot and they work again)- Resume from sleep. Keyboard/Touchpad do not work. (Reboot and the work again)
After I got the laptop I installed 32Gb of RAM and an 512Gb Samsung 950Pro PCIE M.2 NVME drive. The drive should be support as Dell states on the product page and in the manual that PCIE with NVME is supported.
"Advanced features, like industry-leading M.2 SATA and M.2 PCIe/NVME solid state drives, provide data transfer speeds up to 4x faster over traditional hard drivers. "
In order to get the drive visible and running on PCIe I had to disable the sata controller in the BIOS.This way the drive is detected in Windows as an PCIe NVME capable drive.
Just to verify if the issues I went back to default with the delivered 256Gb M.2 sata drive and 8Gb RAM.To install Windows I had to turn the Sata controller back on.
Installed the drivers manually updated WIndows and tested. The issues do NOT occur.
Retested by installing the drivers using the Dell Update Application. The issues do NOT occur.
So I figured out that the SATA controller somehow is the guilty part for all the issues.I mean when enabled to ACHI or RAID the sleep and non... Read more

I have Dell Inspiron 5547 laptop (Touch Screen, 15 inches, 16 GB RAM and i7 4th Gen processor, Out of Warranty). Some days back, suddenly the display went dim and anything is hardly visible. After some initial investigation, the display chip (may be VGA or LED display chip) on the motherboard appears to be burnt out (may be due to voltage surge). Even the numbers printed on the chip is not readable because of which it is difficult for the local repairing shops to repair this problem.
I think Dell India Service Center doesn't deal with chip level repair and hence replacing motherboard is the only way they can fix this. This will be very costly (considering that the laptop is not under warranty so will have to pay for warranty extension, motherboard replacement and repair service) and time consuming.
Hence, to avoid all this I have come here to seek some assistance.
If there are anyone using the same laptop (Inspiron 5000 series 5547 Touch Screen Display with i7 4th Gen Processor and 16 GB RAM) then could you please take a clear picture of your laptop's motherboard or if you recognize the display chip then only that should be sufficient. In this case, I can read the chip related number from the image and try to repair it.
What are the charges for buying a warranty for the laptop, motherboard of my laptop and repairing charge?

Request your response and help.

Regards,
Rohit Kumar

Answer:Display Issue - Dim Display for Dell Inspiron 5000 (Model 5547) - Touch Screen Display with i7 4th Gen Processor and 16 GB RAM

You'll have to call Dell about the possibility of a warranty extension;  in the US, it's sometimes possible but will likely run over $300 -- or about what a board replacement would cost.
If you're getting video, the GPU is OK -- and it's more likely the power circuit to the backlight that's bad.  It'll likely cost as much to repair as to replace the board -- though you'll still be putting $300-400 into an out of warranty system, so replacing the system may be a better idea (if you do this, consider buying a 3-year warranty with the next system).

I have a Thinkpad L520 running Windows 7 connected, along with three other machines, to a Trendnet 4-port KVM Switch.  When I initially connected the KVM switch to the Tinkpad via VGA and USB connection, I rebooted the laptop only to find no display present.  After logging into Windows, I hit Fn-F7 and selected Duplicate Display.  This properly extended the display to the external monitor connected through the KVM switch. However, if I swich to another device on the KVM switch and then switch back to the L520, the display briefly disappears, the Thinkpad generates a tone, and the display disappears on the external monitor.  If I hit Fn-F7 and select Duplicate Display again, the display is again mirrored to the external monitor. Is there a way to correct this issue so that the display across the KVM switch remains persistent? FYI - I also hve a Thinkpad running Open Client for Linux (RHEL variant) and it works fine with the KVM switch and required no adjustments.Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone, I have a problem with my external display on my X300 laptop... I have a X300 with WinXP, and a 20" 4/3 1600x1200 external display (Samsung 204B). When I want to use my external display as an extended desktop, it didn't work well... First I configure my display as an extended ... into 1600x1200px resolution. As the ratio isn't 4/3 on the laptop, there is some border at the top and at the bottom of the external screen, consequenly there is an "lift" (when I go down the screen move down.. etc.). It's not very ..cool. So there is an option into the graphic proprety to set the screen in "full screen : not keeping the proportions". But, in this case, my external screen display an ... triky ? There is still an "lift", but there is also two border on the right and the left of the screen, and the image quality isn't there. It's too deformed to can be read. After some research it appear that my lenovo drivers do not match with the last intel one... But when I try to install the lenovo one ... It didn't work ! (hardware problem). How can I get a working extended desktop into 1440x900 + 1600x1200 full screen ! Thanks for all, and sorry for my poor English...

Does anyone find that when T430 connects with external display using VGA, if you show a white screen, I can find some horizontal jitters. It is not that obvious, but if you show a white screen, or most of screen is white, and you check it carefully, you can see that horizontal jitters. This only happens in external display, not happen in the laptop display. I also have a T420, but I didn't see this problem using VGA to connect with external display.  Does anyone find this similar problem? I doubt whether this is problem about VGA port, or the related driver. VGA should be a analog port.

I have 3 monitors connected to an AMD HD5770 graphics card. Two monitors connect via HDMI, and the third through a Sapphire Active DisplayPort->DVI adaptor. Things have been working fine for years, but recently I started sleeping my computer when I am not using it during the day, as opposed to my previous habit of leaving it on all day and then shutting down at night, and a couple of days after starting this new habit, I received a 'Display Port Link Failure' message:

"The system has detected a link failure and cannot set the requested resolution and refresh rate on your DisplayPort display. Your display might not support the requested resolution or there may be an issue with the cable connecting the display to your computer"

Now, even upon resuming my normal habit of leaving the computer on and shutting down, the monitor will work sometimes but randomly stop other times.

How can I either fix the issues with sleep, which I would prefer since I want to save energy (a money issue rather than believing my actions make any difference to the environment), or if there is a problem somewhere, determine if it is the graphics card or the adaptor that needs replacing.?

Answer:Display Port Link Failure, Active Display Port->DVI

It could be the hardware is starting to give out. Not all problems are software related. Going to be hard to nail down if you don't have another cable. Could be the cable or the port.

Any way to test with a straight cable, not the adapter cable?

I'm using a Dell U3415W monitor. My video card is AMD Radeon RX480. The monitor is connected via DisplayPort to my computer. The monitor is connected via HDMI to my work laptop. When I want to switch over to HDMI, it acts as if I shut off the monitor on the Displayport shifting everything over to my secondary monitor. It causes no problem, but drives me nuts because when I switch back over to DIsplayPort, I have to move my open programs around again. Is there any simple way to make this stop? If I don't use DisplayPort, and instead use HDMI/DVI combination, the behavior described does not happen. I'm guessing that is just the way it is, but I'm hoping there is an easy way to make it stop.

Answer:Switching from Display Port to HDMI Shuts Off Display Port

Are you using two different Resolutions ? ie is the laptop using 3440x1440 like the Desktop ?
it sounds like the Monitor isn't resetting the Res after you switch back , you may need to hit auto adjust instead ?

However, the mini-display port will work with a miniDP to DVI or miniDP to VGA adapter cable (I verfied this at a store where there were multiple cables and monitors to use). miniDP to HDMI: does not workminiDP to DVI: worksminiDP to VGA: works Has anyone else seen this problem?

Hi,
I have a Dell Latitude E7440, Windows 7
The HDMI-port has been working fine for two years attaching to varius units - projectors, TV etc.Last year it stopped to work with one projector (where it uasually works) so I just used the docking station and an VGA cable instead - did not have time to look for what went wrong. After that, a few months later, the next device stopped to acknowlagde the HDMI signal, now it was my standard Samsung LED-TV. OK, so I guessed that the HDMI-cabel was the problem, but after testing several HDMI cables with no luck, I rather thought that the problem was a physical problemen in the HDMI port at the back of the laptop. To shame, hard to fix that. I now realized that there actually where another digital port on back sida of the laptop, the mini displayport -maybe that one is working? So I bought a converter "mini display port to HDMI" - and whooho - it worked. But just for a few days.. :-(
Now I am back to use the docking station and VGA and as you can understand - that is really anoying.I have been using laptops for + 20 years now so I do think I have some experience. It is not an "Fn + F8" problem or a cable problem. Any suggestions?

I have a W500 and recently bought a 22 inch lenova monitor 2551p. Catalyst Control Center does not display a Fixed Aspect Ratio option for this new external monitor. I can change the resolution to a fixed aspect ratio on my native screen, but not on the new external monitor. Long story short, a 1024x768 webpage gets stretched across my widescreen monitor and it should not - I should see the black bars on the sides. Is there a resolution to the issue?Does anyone have a direct URL to download and install new drivers?Does anyone have a direct URL to get the latest and greatest Catalyst Control Center? Is there third party software I can use in the place of Catalyst Control Center? I am pretty sure I have all of these things, but want to see if someone knows a work around or newer drivers/software.

i am not sure whether the Lenovo LCD that you got, has the fixed aspect ratio and 1:1 mapping option. If it doesn't then there is nothing much you can do from the LCD end.

Which catalyst driver are you using right now?

When I move between home and office, I go into hibernation since sleep mode is unstable. Often when I turn back on the Yoga, the screen remains black but I know the laptop is on and can get the image on the external monitor.Going into the display parameters doesn't help: the laptop display doesn't exist. Hi, I own a T420s 4171 and have 2 external monitors hooked up to my docking station. That works fine, but when I try to also display my laptop screen (as my 3rd screen), it won't enable it. It seems to only allow 2 viewable screens (2 external monitors OR 1 external monitor + laptop screen). I tested a T420s 4173 and was able to get 3 viewable screens, but not my 4171, even after updating all of the lenovo drivers. I was comparing video card specs (4171 vs 4173) and it looks to be the same. Can someone confirm/deny that I'm able to have 3 screens with my model? Thanks.

Having a very strange (and annoying) issue with the display. I can only see the display on my Twist after connecting it to an external monitor first. If I do not, all I see is a black screen. No cursor, no anything. If I connect it to an external display via the display port to VGA adapter, it works fine. If connect it to an external display and then disconnect my external display, the display will remain on the Twist. However, if I reboot, I lose the screen again until I connect it to an external monitor. I made sure that "PC Screen Only" is chosen in the Fn+F7 option. This is obviously a serious problem. This is for company use and our users will not have a VGA monitor handy with them where ever they go. I checked the hardware manager and all the drivers are installed with no warnings.

Answer:Lenovo Twist display issues - No display unless I connect to an external monitor

Figured out a work around and narrowed down the problem. If I hit the Second Screen key (F7) after booting, it will go PC Only as the first choice and bring up the display on the laptop after a few seconds. The puzzling thing is why it seems to choose the external monitor as the default monitor on boot, even if it is not conected. I've tried running System Updater to make sure that I have all the latest drivers. All the display settings appear to be correct.

there are a lot of displayport to hdmi adapters on the market, the difference between them in actual functionality perspective is not that much. My recommendation is to get a cheap one from ebay or amazon, etc.

I have a T420 with a Mini Dock Series 3 (433710U).  The External Display is a 30" Dell U3011 monitor connected to the Dock via DisplayPort. As Im dealing with another issue (another thread) the Bios is set for Discrete Graphics only as the Optimus mode currently has a bug which cannot drive this 2560x1600 resolution display.  Now that I have a workaround, I have another problem. When the power savings in Windows7/Power Manager turns the display off (for me its set for 10mins), If I come back 20mins later, shake the mouse, the Dell Display acts like its turning on (LED light turns on blue to indicate signal) and then message flashes on the screen from the Dell monitor stating that its going to sleep.  So now I have a Black display (monitor went back to sleep). I can open the Lid on the laptop (forgot to mention I dont dual display, I just use the 30" exclusively and close the lid on the laptop on the dock) the screen on that shows up. Close the lid again, the monitor does the same thing where it acts like its turning back on and just goes back to sleep.  Someone mentioned a similar problem where they believe the laptop is not sending the correct DPI to the monitor causing it to not be able to display the output.  They mentioned that doing a CTRL+ATL+DEL when the laptop lid is opened, and then closing it again works.  Thats works for me, but only once.  After that, if it sleeps, I have no monitor to use.  Only way to c... Hi folks! After struggling with this problem 2 days ago: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T400-doesn-t-boot-to-BIOS-MOBO-components/t... Now I have a new problem: I have literally NO DISPLAY!Either the internal LCD or an external LCD monitor provide NO output. It seems like, judging from the HD lights, etc. that the system is booting normally. I'm able to boot into windows and, remembering key combinations, can shut down windows normally (Start key, U, U). So I think the system is booting up just fine. It's just that there is literally NO display. I've even tried to wait until I"m in windows, then open up the display manager (I assume....FN+F7), then scroll down to other video output options to try and force it to use an external monitor....that doesn't seem to create video output, though I'm fairly confident I'm getting the Display Manager to try and switch... Any thoughts?  Thanks! -Stephen

Hy everybody :)
So this problem occurs in 95% of time when external display is connected. Picture looks like it has artefacts, and color is all scrambled. Ati tools doesnt detect any artefacts, and restart of the system or waking up after standby "solves" the problem.
BIOS is latest, ram was upgraded from 1 to 2 GB, there is no difference which OS is used or which drivers are used (official or modded).

EDIT: Not long time ago I started playing battlefield2, and this happens often in this game but in no other (HAWX for example)
EDIT2:This corruption of display happens only on primary display, never on external.

So any ideas of how to solve this?
Thanks!!

if you are exceeding the refresh rate such strange things will happen...
please try it and use the toshiba driver with the standard settings to test the system.

This happens as soon as the VGA adapter is plugged in. Unplugging it does not turn the laptop screen back on. Toggling with the function keys does nothing. Since I cannot see anything I cannot try to adjust/correct display settings (or do anything for that matter, other than turn the laptop off by holding power key down).

The second display works (tested with a different laptop).

History: The external display worked fine with this laptop. We had a power failure yesterday which turned it off. The screen toggled to the laptop successfully (or I did, with the function keys--I don't remember) and I continued working. When power returned I started running into this issue. I reinstalled the display drivers from the original manufacturer disc but the problem persists.

NVIDIA? MCP79MVL, GeForce? 8200M G, Shared
External display: Acer LCD, AL 1916C

Answer:Laptop black when external display plugged in, #2 display also dark.

To shut down properly hit the Winkey, then the right arrow, then Enter.

This may be as simple as capacitors overcharged. Shut down, unplug, remove battery. Hold power button down for 20 secs.
Do same for monitor.
Then try.

2082-RF1 The laptop has had some display issues for a few months.  An external monitor through DisplayPort has always been the way I have viewed content. A few months ago, I tried to view the laptop's screen, and noticed that I could not get it to be viewable.  It was blank.  Disconnecting the external monitor, and restarting, had no effect.Since then, the internal screen has always been blank, whenever I have checked.Additionally, issues started to occur intermittently, with the external monitor signal.-The screen resolution would change upon start-up, and sometimes it would change after start-up. -The screen would blink to blank whenever the mouse wheel scrolled.-The monitor would have pixels sparkle in multi-color  (nice glitch for the holidays) Today, the external monitor stopped showing any content.  It simply gives the message of going into energy saving mode.   I am assuming that the issue is within the laptop, as opposed to the monitor itself, since the internal screen has been non-functional for a few months now.  What would be the best route for troubleshooting?I notice there is noticable dust build-up around the  venting areas, and was considering disassembling in order to fully clean out any dust. Are there any known issues with the video in this model?

Answer:T500 (2082)- Display problem - No Display on laptop or external.

Hi, mouserU

What is your operating system? I looked up the Personal Systems Reference for the T500 (2082) (seen here). When you navigate to that page, you can find your machine faster by searching (Ctrl + F) for "T500 2082." In Windows VIsta, this computer had the ability to do switchable graphics from the discrete card to the integrated and vice-versa. I'm not sure whether this ability has carried over through other OSes without aid of a driver (seen here.)

As for troubleshooting, I would first recommend seeing if you can boot the machine by means of another port on the machine, such as VGA, to see if you can get an image over to an external monitor. Not being able to see an image is most likely an indication of a bad video card. One last question for clarification: You can see nothing, not even BIOS, on either screen, correct?

Best,
Adam

I have a weird issue with my G550 (which is out of warranty).  The screen flickers and distorts (fuzzy colours around objects on the screen).   If I flex the case in a certain way the problem goes away, it's hard to describe but if I apply pressure in a certain direction to the back left of the case it solves the issue... but as soon as I stop applying pressure it goes away.  I'm thinking it's a loose connection somewhere between the GPU and the display, but I'm not entirely sure where to look.  If I plugin in external displays they work fine, no flickering or distortion at all.

Answer:G550: Display flickers / distorts. External display fine.

hi deicist,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

If the LCD screen flickers when you open or close the lid or if tilt the LCD screen on a certain angle then the problem lies on the LVDS or LCD cable (possibly got worn out by opening/closing the lid alot of times). If you're interested in fixing it, you can get spare parts here:

Hi Guys,  I'm the IT handiman at a local business. Things have been going okay, so they brought me a Yoga 2 Pro that they had abandoned because it's screen went weird so now it only shows colors.  So, when I turn on the computer, the display immediately starts cycling through colors. When I use an adapter to the micro HDMI, I can see the display on an external display. I can even change the display settings to essentially use the yoga as a computer tower log onto the computer like normal and enable RDP so I can get SOME use out of the machine as a server box, but that feels like a waste of a high performance machine. Video.  IDK what's wrong. If it was a graphics card or something, I would think that I wouldn't be able to use the external display. I'm not sure what's up or what to see about trying to order and replace.  Anyone have any idea what I should look at? I can make this laptop into the little print server we need, since it's not good for much else right now, but I'd rather get it back in service as a laptop and use a lower end machine for a simple print server.  Help me? Please?

Answer:Yoga 2 Display only showing colors. Seems to still work with external display.

I looks like a dead LCD display, or a dead ribbon cable to me, I had a similar issue with my C340, wasn't software related. You can try to contact Lenovo support, they may be able to repair it. http://support.lenovo.com

title basically says it. what gives? i have a 24" lcd capable of 1920x1200 which is driven fine by itself, but in the mode with the internal laptop display on, the resolustion will not exceed 1024x768 in 16 bit on the external monitor... which looks terrible. this is via vga ... not the displayport. i could get the displayport cable though, since my external screen has hdmi. i would just need the converter i guess. but i'm not sure that would make a difference? my intel driver is dated 6/11/2008 6.14.10.4957 ... and i can't seem to update for some reason. again - not sure this has anything to do with it or not.  thanks!

Answer:x301 external display limited to 1024 x 768 when using interal display

Are you using XP or Vista... if you are using XP, please change the resolution using the Intel display driver tray, rather then the windows display property.

Hi, I have Thinkpad Edge E330 bought this July, with win8 downgraded to win7. It recently started a problem where the laptop's own display doesn't display anything (just blank) if I don't have external display connected. The external display doesn't have be in use, just connected, and E330's own display works fine. If I disconnect the external display, the E330's own display goes blank also. It doesn't matter what display setting I have. Any advice on this?Currently I'm not able to use my E330 as a laptop at all.

Answer:Edge E330 display not working without external display connected

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that display in your Lenovo ThinkPad E330 is not working properly unless you connect it to an external display.

Have you tried using your machine in safe mode? If that works, try rolling back your display drivers or reinstall it.

Go to Lenovo Support page to download the latest drivers, Please click on "Select Product", then in "QUICK PATH" enter E330 and select the exact model depending on the MTM number of your device.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Hi

I have a G20 running XP Media Centre Edition with an Nvidia GeForce Go 6600. I have been using the 1440x900 setting up until now on the laptop's screen but have just bought a 22" monitor and am using that instead.

The problem is that the resolution of the monitor is 1680x1050 and I can't seem to be able to set that. The only options are 1440x900 or 1600x1200. Does anyone know how I can get the graphics chip to output 1680x1050?

Many thanks

Hello William

I have no experience with this but somewhere on this forum I have read similar topic. Before you wait here use advanced search option and use ?1680 x 1050? as searched term. I am pretty sure you will find this topic where one guy explained how to set 1680 x 1050 resolution on external monitor.

Quick one ( I hope)...

ATI 6970 has 2 mini display ports, and I want to use this, but monitors do not have DP ports. Will a mini DP to HDMI or DVI cable work, or dis it going to need the extra USB power with it ( ie active as opposed to passive cable). I know my 5870 required the active connection, but cant find out how the 6970 goes.

Thanks

I had to reinstall windows 7 on my acer aspire 5560g laptop, I installed the drivers on the Acer site. I found the legacy updates for my cards and installed them. And I am still having problems.

The monitor is not showing the native resolution of 1366 x 768, it's topping out at 1024 x 768, it's refusing to let me use the built in screen savers. It's supposed to be a duel graphics system and the device manager lists two under the display drivers. Both are listed as standard vga display. One with the little yellow exclamation mark. It's driving me nutty. Can someone help me?

On a side note, the slider for screen brightness has also gone missing, and the fn brightness control doesn't work either.

Answer:Display adapter now listed as standard vga display

What display is going to look better on an X1 Carbon if I use that setting, the 2560 x 1440 WQHD IPS LED Display or the 1920 x 1080 Full HD IPS LED Display using Win 7 Pro?

So the thinkpad yoga looks great.. When are they going to upgrade the yoga 2 pro to a thinkpad yoga 2.  12.5 screen is to small for my day to day (even with 21" external hooked up.  And I want 500G SSD, Thinkpads are a lot less business friendly then they used to be.. what happened? (long battery would be nice too).Does anyone know where one can find "new release info"?

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga: Pen and External Display (pen on wrong display)

X series have always had a small 12 inch convertible laptop. X41t to X230t have all being around 12 inch. So ThinkPad Yoga has continued the tradition of offering 12 inch screen size. You can easily do the hdd upgrade yourself, i have put a 1 tb ssd in my ThinkPad Yoga, and it has been fantastic. I guess that is the benefit of the ThinkPad Yoga with its 2.5 inch hdd slot, compared to other tablets that use PCI-e or M.2. SSD standards.

Hello, i am using a Belinea 2025 S1 as a second display to enhance the Desktop of my R61 ThinkPad (8918DEG). Max. resolution of the ThinkPad is 1680 x 1050 and max. resolution of the Belinea is 1400 x 1050. I tried to configure the system to use both displays with their max. resolution, but for the Belinea only 1280 x 1050 is used. The NVIDIA control panel allows to configure user-specific resolutions. When setting the user-specific resolution to 1400 x 1050 the test-screen appears and everything seems to be fine, but if i close the test-screen the program crashes. I restarted the program immediatedly and was able to change the resolution for the Belinea to 1400 x 1050. The problem is: This setting is gone after i reboot the ThinkPad. Can anyone help?  Note:The system is up to date; e.g. there is no newer version of the NVIDIA Controlcenter available. regards,  Robert

I am very happy with my ThinkPad Yoga S1 and do like very much the digitizer pen capability. It works well (given some calibration issues) when the Yoga works without an external display. However, as soon as an external display is connected, the pen outputs always on the external display (and not the internal).

I have the yoga connected through OneLink Pro, and an external monitor connected to the display port. I am using both the internal screen as well as the external screen in the extended mode (i.e. not duplication). When I use the pen on the yoga screen, the actions appear on the external display (and not on the yoga screen). This is very confusing, as the pen actions don?t appear where I apply them.

I?ve attempted to set the yoga screen as the main screen, but did not have success. Also using DVI instead of display port did not help. I also tried it with three displays (internal, DVI, DP) all in the extended mode (it is nice that these setup as possible by the way), but the pen still it appears on the display port monitor.

In order to use the pen meaningfully, I do have to disconnect all external monitors and work only with the yoga screen.

Anybody has seen this? Is this an issue of the pen driver (all updated to the latest state) or the operating system (Windows 8.1, 64bit)?

Thanks for any help in advance!

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga: Pen and External Display (pen on wrong display)

Hey hey!Im new here in this forum, i was looking for an answer for my problem, but i couldnt find one.So here is whats going on:I got a brand new Thinkpad Yoga with a One Link Dock and a second monitor. When i try to work with the Wacom pen on the main monitor (the one of the thinkpad yoga) and hold the pen over it, or try to write on it, the coursor instantly sets to the second monitor (the attached one).So i want to have the pen input on my main monitor, while i write on it and got the second monitor attached, like for reading or so.I cant find options in this Windows 8 to fix this issue.Under Linux it wouldnt be a problem, i found heaps of answers for that, but im sadly with windows. If you even got experience with Linux on the Yoga, could you tell me if that works wel and if its possible to dual boot? Thanks and kind regards - Kay

My ThinkPad T500 running 64-bit Windows 7 Professional Edition worked great on and off a mini docking station with 2 external monitors. The dual-display setup allowed me to have more desktop space; when needed, I can take the laptop off the docking station (following undocking steps) and use it anywhere. This convenience no longer holds after upgrading to Windows 10.

With the T500 in the docking station (LCD lid closed), I can use the dual-display setup as in Windows 7. However, after shut-down and remove the T500 off the docking station and the T500 laptop becomes unusable because its LCD display doesn't show anything after boot. (While booting the laptop's display shows the ThinkPad boot logo and then some DOS-mode boot messages and then the windows 10 logo and its dotted spinning wheel; after the initial boot the display went blank and the Windows 10 desktop doesn't come up.)

The only way to make the T500 laptop usable on its own is to go through a "preparation procedure" and here is how the procedure goes: While the T500 is on the docking station in the dual-display setup with the 2 external monitors, open the T500's lid and set its display as the main display and then select to disconnect the other 2 external displays (in the Settings -> System -> Display page); then , in the T500's LCD display, select the shut down. Once the T500 is properly powered off, remove it from the docking station and the T500 can work on its own as a laptop supposed to be. W... Read more

I've tried searching the forums but haven't been able to find anyone with the same problem, so if a thread already exists and I just failed at finding it please point me in that direction.

I have a Lenovo L440 laptop running Windows 10 1607, it has an Intel HD Graphics 4600 video card which lists the last available driver as 15.40 from the 23rd of June 2017.

It has an issue where I connect a projector and I get the flashing display to indicate another display was detected and connected, but nothing displays out to the projector (which is set to use the correct input). I press the shortcut to duplicate the displays and nothing happens. I go in to display settings, and see 5 displays (give or take depending on the laptop) despite only one external one being connected. If I tell it to use displays 1 and 2, nothing, so disable display 2. Then tell it to use displays 1 and 3, nothing, so disable display 3. Repeat this process enough time, it'll eventually come to the display the projector is configured as (sometimes having to add additional displays to what was being shown originally).

It's OK for me to do this as I'm the IT guy, but it's not OK for the staff to do this.

Here is a sample screenshot from another machine with the same problem. Only one external screen (2 in total) is connected.

Some machines with more up to date video cards such as Intel 540's have had driver updates putting them to 15.46, and the problem is thus resolved. It's back to behaving as expected fo... Read more

Answer:Latitude E6440 external display blinks when connect via hdmi

Hi SI K,
If you haven't already done so can you update the Intel 4600 and AMD8690M first.
If the issue is still there then:
1. Restart the system and tap F2 to enter to the Bios
2. Navigate to 'Virtualization' and choose Disable (uncheck the box)
3. Also disable VT for Direct Io and Trusted Execution
4. Return to the main menu in the Bios and select Power Management Option and disable Advanced Battery charge configuration
Once you have done that check to see if the issue is resolved.
If it isn't then open the Intel Graphics Control Panel, go into Advanced Resolution and change the frequency for the LCD from 40Hz to 60Hz

Hello,
I'm using a Latitude E7440 with a Dock and two monitors connected to it. (Both with DVI)
Sporadically (often already shortly after starting the laptop) one or both of the monitors are going black for about 5 and come back after.
I already tried several things to fix the issue but haven't been able to find a solution yet.

What I've tried so far:

Update to latest BIOS
Use different display driver
Used a different dock
Mainboard replacement
Installed latest MST HUB FIrmware
Disabled Display Port in the monitor settings
At this point I don't know what else to do to fix this issue and I'd really appreciate any help from others.

Since few days I have my Thinkpad not getting starting up. I did find some  bits and pieces information in forums, but would look to confirm if it would need a motherboard replacement, which is a costly affair and I really am not sure if I should go for it or better go for a new laptop. It is a 15"  T42P (type 2373 N49) having 2GB RAM, 128 MB ATI Mobility FIREGL T2 and a 9 cell battery. I got it from a reseller in ebay about 10 months back (I got an additional 1gb RAM while i got from him) and till now I am more than impessed by the system's performance and I admire it a lot ; very good power for my use and great display. Recently (before this issue appeared) I had noticed heating in the underside and also near the touchpad, which was slightly above than what I used to feel in the past. And one day while a video was being played it all went frozen and got hung. later it wouldnt boot up too. Just before it went frozen, there were some grainy lines/area (covering quite some portion in the screen) giong on and off. A few days before this incident when the laptop was used to play movies kept on a bed and during then I had felt some over heating too. I now regret this because I do think- that might have caused some overheating to the unit because of the underside vents getting no air circulation while kept on a bed or similar surface which is not firm. I took it to a local service shop-he was able to boot it up and run it for some time, while pressing the back.... replacing the GPU??? It is soldered onto the motherboard, and the problem with video display is not the GPU itself, but rather the GPU is coming loose from the motherboard, so i don't see how the GPU replacement is solving the issue. There is also the chance that the overheating in GPU due to improper ventilation that is causing problem. i will be highly suspicious of what the person says (probably trying to fool you). The GPU used in the T42p is extremely rare, and i would highly doubt that he can obtain an example from anywhere, these laptop GPU are NOT something you can get from some supplier just like that.Message Edited by lead_org on 05-25-2009 10:25 AM

I started having issues yesterday, the day after I installed teamviewer a program that is on my iPad also to remotely control the laptop. At first the screen started freezing when I was in the middle of a Java game. So I restarted the laptop only to have it freeze at the main screen (after login).

The screen would freeze the display would change to a very low resolution (I think). So I kept restarting it only to repeat. Until eventually once past the windows logo the screen would turn black and blank. Sometimes the display would turn on black and blank and other times it would do that after the logo.

A few times I managed to get it to go into safe mode and I restored to a few days ago but it made no difference, I also tried many other things like changing some settings but nothing worked.

So after like 2 or 3 hours I Rolled back and disabled "nvidia quadro nvs 135m" (since I read it might be causing the issue and I should uninstall it which I couldn't), once I disabled it I restarted the computer and made it to the main screen without issues, and I could even load my game. I enabled it again And restarted the computer only to have the same issues so I disabled it again after finally getting into safe mode.

I don't know if it works fine now, I left it on at most for 5-10 minutes without any issues and I never actually logged into the game to see if it works.

I figured out that in my display settings instead of showing my main monitor it only sho... Read more

I recently purchased a Display port to HDMI adapter for my PC. I did this because my TV (SONY XBR55X930D) displays 4k HDR and I want to take advantage of its ENHANCED HDMI setting. Now, when I hook the Display port end of this adapter into the 980ti and then plug the HDMI into the adapter for my TV I get video and support for ENHANCED HDMI, however, I receive no audio output whatsoever. I'll run DOOM 2016 I get video @4k but nothing for audio. Can't hear a thing whether its a movie, streaming audio through SoundCloud...nothing. I'm told that there should be support for audio with these adapters.

Is this not the case? Am I missing a setting?

I've done some research but am having difficulty finding a solution.

I am using HDMI 2.0a cables that support HDCP 2.2.

This is the adapter I purchased:

My ThinkPad laptop computer does not have an HDMI port, so in order to connect my computer to my HDTV I use an adapter plug which accepts an HDMI cable male plug (from my TV) and then plugs into my a/v display port. I've gone thru a few of these adapters because for some reason they tend to develop connection problems, like loss of the audio portion, or whatever. The current plug is shorter than my previous ones and less likely to get bent, but all of a sudden I've lost the audio transfer again and when I went to unplug and replug the adapter to make sure the connection was secure I found it was very hot. I don't recall it ever being that hot before....some heat, yes, but this was very hot. Not a good sigh....eh?

When this same audio loss has occurred in the past, unplugging and replugging the adapter has worked, turning the TV off and back on again has solved the problem on some occasions, other times it took restarting the computer. And then on some occasions the loss of TV audio was due to my receiver input setting getting accidently altered (I run my TV audio thru my receiver and into a Dolby surround sound speaker system). None of these remedies have worked this time however.

In this case I'm more concerned about the overheating issue than my loss of audio transfer. Can anyone with good technical knowledge comment on this high heat matter....should I trash this plug immediately?....can damage be done here with an overheating plug, or is some heat to... Read more

We have a large monitor (Dell 3007wfpt) connected to a Dell Precision M4800 laptop. The large monitor only works with DVI-Dual Link so we have a Display Port to DVI-D adapter (Accell UltraAV DP to DVI-D). The user of this machine was working in Outlook on this external monitor right after a fresh boot and noticed the mouse cursor was moving very slowly. Eventually the external monitor froze completely and the laptop monitor showed a BSOD whilethe external monitor showed the same frozen static windows/outlook image. I checked the crash files and noticed two dumps (although he only noticed one crash). Both dump files seem to point to a USB device. This Accell adapter uses displayport and usb (for power). Could someone check and confirm if this is the case through the dump files?

The only other USB devices is a Logitech wireless receiver and a USB hub/card reader that is built onto the Dell monitor. This usb hub on the monitor does not have anything plugged into it.

Thoughts? Could it be the monitor usb hub/card reader? Or the displayport adapter? If it's the adapter, then would an external powered usb hub be a fix for that? Thanks!

Answer:BSOD usb related, monitor hub or display port adapter?

Hi Rogue75.

First of all, Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs. Otherwise, stop 9x9F cannot be successfully prevented.
Click on the Start button
Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the “Startup” tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus and the touchpad "Apoint".
Apply > OK
Accept then restart.
Next come to the BSOD. Do you use the webcam?
(c:\program files (x86)\dell webcam\dell webcam central\webcamdell2.exe)

Better you disable the webcam in device manager. See how it goes. Observe if there is any more BSOD after freeing up the startup items and disabling the webcam.

But, the webcam might be necessary for you. Search for any possible updates in Support | Dell US for your Dell Precision M4800. If any update to the webcam is there, apply it.

Report us for any further BSOD.

I want to connect my laptop to a DVI screen and it only has a DisplayPort (and VGA but I do want to get the full resolution) port.
So I need an adapter.
Can I use a passive adapter or do I need to buy an active?

Answer:Tecra R850-117: Need info about Display Port to DVI adapter

Hi

As far as I know the DisplayPort on the left side complies to the V1.1a standard.
This means that the DispplayPort is compatible with DVI and HDMI standards so you can use an DisplayPort to DVI or HDMI adapter.

So you could use something like that:

Recently my laptop display has become distorted e.g.it looks like a bad signal television channel and has a pink tint to it. So I plugged in my Philips 15" Hardglass Display which I had spare to see if that would work. It did for a few weeks but this morning when I switched it on, dotted vertical lines in groups of four. They were different colours depending on which colours were meant to be there e.g. blue came out as black lines, white as yellow and black as red. It was like this on my laptop as well. But when I just left it to start up it got to the bit when thw windows logo appears just before login and then the blue screen of death appeared. My laptop is a PC World own brand Philips freevents X57 loaded with Windows Vista Ultimate SP1. The graphics chip as I understand is a Nvidia Geforce Go 7400. I did a quick search on google and no solutions to my problem came up.

Hi, I am trying to solve an issue with a client's T500 laptop. It is a recently new PC and is only a few months old.I am having an issue in regards to my external display. I have my external display plugged into a docking station, however all the color on the external is lost. All of my windows that do open on the external are in black and white only. I have tried to re-install the generic video drivers and the ATI drivers and both fail midway through the installation. Is there something I am missing as I cannot seem to remedy this issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated Technician1985

Does it work if you plug it into a different source? What if you plug the cable directly into the T500's onboard DisplayPort?

Hi Dell Community,
Please help me to diagnose what is wrong with my new laptop.
My Laptop is Dell Latitude E6440 but every time i connect external monitor to my laptop HDMI port via HDMI to VGA converter, the external monitor always blink randomly every couple of seconds. This HDMI to VGA converter is working fine when i used it to other laptop.
Currently i still don't have chance to try my laptop HDMI port to connect directly to HDMI monitor because i don't have it.
Are there anybody have the same problem with me? thanks for your help.

Hi M. Zemmy Indrapatih,
Thanks for your post.
Sorry you are having difficulties with your laptop and monitor.  If you could send me the name and model cable adapter you are using and the name and model of the monitor,  I might be better able to understand the issue.  Thanks

So in a nutshell, I have already spoken with "Tech Support" in regards to this, and I'm guessing I'm not the first and certainly won't be the last.
The issue being whenever I have my laptop "docked" and have an external monitor connected (no matter if it's DVI, DisplayPort or VGA - I've tried all three) it will NOT display anything on the external monitor until it passes POST, at which point the external monitor only turns-on once at the Windows log-on screen. Funny thing is if I flip-open the lid on the laptop, the internal LCD panel will display all the POST information, until said point where the external monitor connected to the dock will turn-on and the internal LCD panel will power-off.
I have a case number, and was given the option to send-out my laptop to depot (repair) to have the motherboard replaced, but no guarantee that would even resolve the issue.
I have already attempted numerous BIOS updates (all versions available, and finally ended-up leaving it at A08 since none of them were making any difference anyhow) and also went as far as updating to the latest Intel drivers to humor myself (but that would make no difference since these drivers aren't even loaded when going through the POST sequence.)
I was told that this seems to be an on-going issue with most of the Latitude E6x20 series, and that supposedly a (soon-to-be-released) BIOS Update (A09) would address the issue. I chose NOT to send the laptop off to depot ... Read more

Answer:Latitude E6220 + Dell (PRO2X) Dock = No Video on External Display during POST

Normally I would assume something like this would be the way that Nvidia Optimus is designed.  Optimus needs Windows to run correctly,  Optimus controls the GPUs, no Optimus, no video. The problem here of course is that the E6220 doesn't have a discreet NVIDIA GPU, so it doesn't have Optimus.
At the moment I can't tell you if you should send the system to the depot or the system is working as designed.  I have sent a message to my contacts in engineering for help.  If a BIOS update is on the way to correct something like this hopefully I will get information on that as well.  I will post back here as soon as I have more info.

Hi. I have problem with my adapter mini display port to hdmi, when i connect my t430 to TV or monitor, on display on my tv or monitor i see message "No signal". But when i connect lenovo carbon x1 to tv with this adapter - it's work.   I install newest drivers on intel HD Graphics and nVidia Graphics.

Answer:t430 no video on the adapter mini display port to hdmi

Hi Yuriy_volkovsky,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing an issue with No Video output from Mini display port on your ThinkPad T430.

Please go to BIOS and under Config menu go to Display option go to Graphics Device and check if Graphic Optimus is enabled, then boot the system and check if OS (Operating System) detection for Optimus is enabled in graphic properties.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

Sat A10 the RGB PORT is not installed & cannot be used as external display. I tried to install the communication port or COM 1. stop code. What would be the possible solutions?

Answer:Satellite A10: RGB port is not installed - cannot use external display

Hi

What did you mean by "not installed"?
Usually you don't need to install anything. You don't need any 3rd drivers for this port.
The Windows XP drivers should works properly.

Please check the device manager if there are any errors or yellow exclamation marks.
If the problem occurs since short time you can try to use the restore tool of the WinXP.
This tool will roll back the OS to the early point.

I use a XPS 9350 for about a year now. Its a certified refurbished with core i7, 16 GB and 512GB SSD.
I had an issue with usb C adapter tha has a lan port, HDMI port and usb 3 port. When I detach and reattach the adapter with laptop power on I almost always loose the external monitor (extended desktop mode) display. Display properties showed that cant detect the external display. the external monitor also goes to idle state. I need to turn off / restart laptop several times to get the external display on, sometimes for a whole day it did not come back at all.
I found a work around, when this happens go to display properties and change the "Extended desktop mode" to "Duplicate the display" mode and the apply, the other monitors get back to normal. you can reapply the Extended mode afterwards and it works fine.
I use kwmobile usb c hub.
I hope this post also help someone else. It s pity that a fine laptop has so much issues still to be addressed. (Auto wake up is killing me!!)

Question: Display Port Issue

Hello,I use the Mobility Radeon HD 3650 on my T500. A 1920 x 1200 monitor is connected via the Display Port in my office. While away, I use the generic 1280 x 800 screen resolution.Up until recently the XP Pro SP3 installation switched automatically to the 1920 x 1200 resolution when the external monitor was connected AND switched off the built in screen. Now it switches both monitors to 1920 x 1200 and leaves the built in monitor on. How can I reconfigure the former behaviour?I tried Fn+F7 without success. Thanks,David

Answer:Display Port Issue

With the propper setting in Presentation Director I switch manually now.Good enough. David

Hey everyone, it's been a long time since I've had to ask anything on these forums, but I'm glad they're still here when I need them! I've done some looking into the problem, and it seems like there aren't many resources on my problem.

I'm trying to connect my television to my laptop, via an SVideo connection. The problem is, my graphics card does not, and CAN NOT, have its factory/updated drivers installed. The graphics card is currently being run under "Standard VGA graphics adapter" drivers.

(The reason I can't put drivers on the card is because it's fried. I'm suffering from a burnt-out, defective NVidia GeForce 8600M GS, like many other people, and I'm mired down in court documents that I'll be using against HP in small claims court.)

Are there another set of drivers I could try that would allow my laptop to use an external display?
Is there a way to set up an external monitor under standard VGA graphics adapter drivers?

In trying to get the T40 to work with external display I installed updated ATI Display Driver off the Lenovo website.  After rebooting I have a gray screen.  I can get into Bios.  What do I change in Bios to be able to get back to windows and uninstall the new driver?  Thanks, Gai

Answer:T40 Display Issue after installing new ATI Display Driver

you would need to get into your safe mode? can you do that? In the event you can't, you may want to take the hdd out and use a usb enclosure to transfer any files you have on the hdd into another computer. Then put the hdd back and try to go into rescue and recovery partition by pressing the blue IBM/Access key on the keyboard during laptop initial startup, this should take you to your recovery console and then select to recover to previous backed up condition or full recovery to factory condition. If that don't work, then you would need to reinstall the OS using an aftermarket OS disc from scratch.

I recently upgraded my W500 to Windows 7 from XP.  I have everything working fine except for one thing:  When I start up my W500 in the port replicator, I do not get any signal to my external monitor until the Windows logon.  While that may not be an issue for some folks, I have a hard drive password set, and while I can type it in, I have no idea if it is correct or not.  Is there a video display setting in the BIOS that will send a video signal to the external monitor as soon as I power the W500 on?  This was never an issue with XP (external display came right on at power up). Thanks!

Solved!

Answer:W500 -- No external display on startup / port replicator

Did you run a BIOS update before or after updating to Windows 7?

If so it will have probably reverted to BIOS defaults and you need to change the BIOS stteings in Config > Display > Boot Display Device so that the default is your external screen.

The screen is shot on this machine --I have a USB to VGA adapter, but can't get it to activate.  Because I have no screen I can't go through the typical Driver install .... is there a way to force the system to boot to the USB Display adaptor? thx in advance!

Answer:Booting/CMOS Setup using external USB Display Adapter

Hi there @DMillerassociat, Welcome back to the HP Support Forums! I understand that you are looking for a way to use a display connected using a USB display adapter as your boot display.  I am happy to give you a hand with this. I do not believe that this is currently possible, for several reasons. First the system BIOS would need the ability to recognize the USB port connection as a standard video connection. You would almost certainly need to either disable or disconnect your existing built in display, and you would also need the drivers that make a USB video adapter  work installed.  If the BIOS does not recognize the device as a valid video device  inherently you will never get a display, when you need to get into the BIOS setup. I hope this makes sense, and if it does answer your question, please mark this post as a solution. Kudos would also be appreciated.

I have brand new HP EliteDesk 800G2 SFF with 8GB/Samsung SSD in Window 7 professional with SP1. It is connected via Displayport cables to 2 HP E242 EliteDisplays. Please advise and Thx! ps: I have tried installed the currect driver from HP as well as from Intel support but still in vain.

Hi,
So this is the first time this sort of thing has ever happened. When I turned on my PC today only one monitor was picking up signal. In attempt to fix this I switched the display ports from the working monitor to the non working monitor. Nothing happened so I moved the cables back, when I did that the other monitor no longer received signal. I then plugged in a hdmi cable to my monitor and still no signal. I then unplugged the power to the PC and held the on/off button for 60 seconds and re plugged the power. The monitor began receiving signal but only through hdmi and the other monitor still does not work.
I have no idea how to fix this. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, I am new here - so I hope this is the right place to ask. I own a Thinkpad X200 with Ultrabase, running WIN7 with a Intel Based Graphics Accelerator ... I am pretty happy with it beside one issue. Since a while I have 2 Monitors connected  - one VGA and one on a Displayport. Both work correctly when I boot in the Ultrabase. Problem beginns, when I pull it out of the Ultrabase, and try to connect to Projector ... It seems like the X200 still is the opinion, that the Monitor on the displayport is still conected and it will not connect to the projector like I want it to. Other issue is, if I Bood outside the ultrabase, I have to disconecct the Display Port adapter pyhsicaly to get the both monitors working... I tried it with several adapter --- Original IBM and others - no difference. What do I do wrong? Googeling the issue did not bring anything up. Thanks in advance for your help and patience. Kai

I have had several issues when I used my XPS 13 and output video using the display port.
1. When I used a DP to VGA converter, video cuts off after a while, and will not resume.
2. When I used a DP to HDMI converter, audio from the HDMI would cut off every ~10 minutes. Unplugging and plugging the DP, or changing the project method from windows will temporarily fix the issue, but same issue would occur repeatedly.
The above issues seemed like the laptop cuts certain signal off after laptop not being actively used (playing videos). When I have constant mouse activity, then the above issues does not show, although screen would occasionally flicker (as  if laptop was trying to re-adjust resolution or something).

I wonder if anyone can give me some advise on possible causes? The most horrible part of these issues is that the first issue happened during my own wedding when I had my XPS13 played our wedding video.

I have tried to adjust both software brightness and hardware brightness. The software actually does change but not enough to matter and the hardware adjustment does nothing, up or down. I have a newly imaged Elitedesk 800 Mini 35W G3 desktop with 3 HP Brand display port to DVI adapters attached to 3 viewsonic LCD's and after getting everything hooked up, I was only getting video on 2 of the three displays. I went into the Intel Graphics Properties,  then Display, then Multiple displays, then toggled it to Collage, all 3 screens went blank, then it popped back up with Extended Desktop selected, but then a picture on all 3 screens! I thought my problem was solved however after I reboot, the setting reverts and even though it shows its under "Extended Desktop" still, only 2 of the 3 displays are showing a picture until I toggle back to Collage, then have it refresh and jump back to Extended Desktop. I am using a fully updated copy of Windows 7 Enterprise and have installed the latest version of the Intel 530 video chipset driver from HP for this specific model of computer. Please let me know if anyone knows how to solve this issue permanently. Thanks!

I just purchased an adapter plug that allows me to connect my Lenovo/IBM thinkpad (T420) to my HDTV by plugging the HDMI cord into my TV and the other end to this adapter plug which converts the HDMI cable into a male plug which fits into my display port (there is no HDMI port on this model computer). It worked, but now I can't remove the adapter plug...it's stuck in the laptop display port. I do not know if the problem is caused by the male adapter plug or the female jack in the computer, but they're locked together now.

I have previously read review comments (on these HDMI/display port adapter plugs) mentioning this jamming happening on more than a couple occasions, but I don't recall any resolutions being mentioned except to break off (and destroy) the plug and possibly damage the display port as well. I called Lenovo tech support but they said I'd have to mail the computer to them to get it fixed. I'd prefer avoiding that if possible even though my warranty is still in effect and it would be of no cost to me.....just time lost without a computer.

I'd greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who may be aware of how to resolve this problem (and also how to avoid it happening again) without doing damage to either the plug or especially the computer display port.

Thanks for your consideration in any case....

Just recently replaceced my screen

I've been given a faulty Toshiba laptop/notebook to look at. The problem is that when I switch on the power button, various lights come on, but there is no picture what-so-ever on the screen. There are no beeps either, so no idea what's causing it. I've tried connecting an external monitor (and yes I've pressed the fn + 5 keys to switch monitors), but that isn't recognising any video signal either.

You can hear the hard drive start to whir, but there is no continued chugging sound like you'd get if the o/s was continuing to load. As there's no picture, I can't tell if the BIOS is giving me any warnings, whcih is why the HDD doesn't sound lke it's still booting.

Hi, I have a T60 (14.1 inches, 1440x900, 8743-4UK) and the internal display is not working. What I found out:1) It does not seem to be a simple backlight failure - it really shows nothing.2) It is not an inverter problem, I have replaced it (although with a used part) but it still does not work.3) External display works just fine.4) When I checked with my external display, I found that the internal display is not recognized at all, as if it was simply not connected. I really liked the keyboard -- I am willing to fix it if it does not cost a fortune. Thanks in advance for all help!

I am using a usb-c to hdmi adapter to output to a TV but the black levels look washed out. I had no issues with the same TV and a previous laptop that had a dedicated hdmi port. In the intel graphics settings usually there is a "quantization range" setting to change color space between RGB Limited and RGB Full if the intel graphics is driving the hdmi port. However, in this case, there is no hdmi port but instead a usb-c to hdmi adapter, thus the quantization range setting is missing. I've had the same issue before on a previous laptop with usb-c. I've tried installing thel atest drivers, including the non-validated ones from the intel website, but none give me the quantization range setting.

I have used the DVI out on my GTX 560ti for years now without issue, but my cable is failing, so I switched to HDMI using a miniHDMI adapter. At native 1080p, the screen is two big by about a half inch in each direction.

I can resize it in NVIDIA control panel to 1862x1068 to make it fit correctly... is this what I'll have to do? I don't see why it can't just be normal at 1080p native.

But besides that, the screen, especially text, isn't sharp. I've looked around a bit but can't find setting for this.

Here's a screencap, hopefully you can see what I mean. http://i.imgur.com/G0T7Now.png

Any help as always is greatly appreciated.

I have been having issues this week with several Dell OptiPlex 3050 losing the display port signal when opening up a word or excel document or switching from a browser to another program.  This just started to happen this week.  The monitor goes black and states it is going into power save mode.  The display port cable has to be unplugged and then plugged back in for the monitor to work.   I have checked to make sure that all of the drivers and BIOS is up to date and they are.  I am thinking that an update is causing the issue but I restored back to October 2 and that still didn’t fix the issue.  Anyone have any suggestions?

Answer:OptiPlex 3050 Display Port Issue

* Which 3050? (Micro Form Factor, Small Form Factor, Mini Tower)* Are the 3050s using the same monitor models?* Are the 3050s using the same operating system?* Are the monitors connected to the 3050 onboard DP out port? Or are they connected to added discrete video cards DP out port?* What about when using the 3050 onboard HDMI out port? Do they have the issue?

I have fully upgraded windows 10 and all the latest drivers from Acer support pages installed to my Aspire S5-371.When I'm trying to connect a display into type-c USB-port using a type-c/HDMI adapter, windows shows an error message "Display connection is limited" and by clicking it, it opens following web site: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt628692(v=vs.85).aspx#_5 I tried 2 different type-c/HDMI adapters with same results. Does my new laptop support dual display at all?

Answer:S5-371 dual display issue with type-c adapter

The end of the M$ note says "The hardware and software on the system, the device or adapter, or cable does not support the DisplayPort /DockPort or MHL alternate modes." Now since a regular USB port works (2.0 even) for DisplayPort that leaves MHL. Maybe you need one of these.

When projecting video/audio stream from my Dell widi laptop (running Windows 10) to my Vizio HD TV, the video projects fine, but I lose the audio on my laptop and get no audio on my TV. Is there a setting I am missing?
Thanks,
Alan

Preparing boss' new x301. He does not want an external keyboard, but he does want an external monitor. X301 came only with an enhanced USB Port Replicator (he's used to a docking station but Lenovo does not offer one for the X301). So far I cannot find any way to turn the x301 display off while keeping the laptop open for keyboard use while using an external monitor.  He's going to raise bloody hell if I cannot find a way to do this. The "Lenovo Display Adaptor" in the system tray doesn't have such an option, and it seems neither does the Power Management. FN F7 makes the screen flicker for one second, but does nothing further. Thank you so much. for any help.Message Edited by studiopeg on 05-19-2009 09:42 AM

Answer:How to turn off Thinkpad x301 display when using external monitor with USB Port Replicator

Looking for the same resolution, please let me know if you find anything. I'd love to find an actual docking station for the X301 but haven't come across one yet. thanks!
