Lenovo Flex 4-1570 BIOS Update (BIOS Update -10[64])...for YOGA???

Question: Lenovo Flex 4-1570 BIOS Update (BIOS Update -10[64])...for YOGA???

I'm a new owner of a Flex 4-1570 Ideapad. I have a critical update awaiting install, however the window popup says it is for the YOGA not the Flex. Thus, I have not installed it. My question is, should I install it? If not, how do I turn the notification off? Thanks!

Preferred Solution: Lenovo Flex 4-1570 BIOS Update (BIOS Update -10[64])...for YOGA???

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi! I downloaded the last bios update (9/24/2015) for Lenovo Flex 2 Pro/Lenovo Edge 15 with Broadwell processor. It doens't install cause there is a very strange issue. When I launch the exe files it extract some files under C:\\BIOS: looking to these files I noticed that the last modified date is very old so it is the cause that the bios update doesn't work (he said that the file installation is older than the last bios). Here you can see a screenshot http://postimg.org/image/7r00yrvh3/Thanks to all

My Flex 14 1480 is a week and a half old when the system update application prompted me to update my BIOS. As i recall it wanted to update my bios from 1.04 to 2.0 I clicked yes, and the bios update ran and initiated a restart of the computer. Unfortuatnply now my computer does not start up and i am greeted to LEDS being on but a black screen without a lenovo logo.  I then tried to go on the Lenovo website and for the bios version that i just installed, there is no 2.0 version listed, specifically 2SCN20WW. There are no bios updates period. Was this update pulled, and if so what can I do to recover it so it boots again.  http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/Flex-Series/flex-4-1480?tabName=Downlo...  thanks

Hi Lenovo Forum,I wanted to ask for help and advice on whether there is a need for my Flex 4 laptop to update its BIOS.It's my first time opening the Lenovo companion app that came with the laptop and I noticed that there is one critical update.  Here is the installation history: Here is the system info from the companion app Now my question is, do I have to update this or simply ignore it?Just to clarify, I'm not really a tech savvy person. I am unsure if this is safe or not. I read from other sites that updating the BIOS may have risks of bricking the laptop and make it unusable. So, I really need help if I should proceed with the update or leave as it is. The current situation right now is, everything seems to be working fine. I am near my warranty expiration. The only complaints that I have is that whenever I leave my laptop and set it to sleep by 11PM, I open it the next morning and the battery is all drained to 1%. This does not happen all the time, but for it may happen quite frequently. Here is my battery information And one other complain is that, even if I set it to sleep mode, sometimes, I do hear the laptop fan go really loud. I am also not sure why that happens. But I hope all my additional information would be helpful on determining if my computer has issues and if I do really need to update the BIOS. Any type of help would be appreciated. Thanks!

EDIT Upon checking this link:http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/flex-series/flex-4-1570/80sb/80sb000... It seems like I have dozens of things to update that doesn't even show in the Lenovo Companion App.Most importantly, this has the latest BIOS:BIOS Update for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Windows 10 (32-bit, 64-bit) - Notebook0VCN25WW(V1.09) I am not sure what is the necessary version or required updates. This is quite confusing.

I have a Flex 4 1480 Signature Edition ideapad 80VD0007US and I'm trying to update the BIOS via the System Update utility.  When I choose to install the suggested update for the BIOS I get a message stating that this BIOS is only for "510S14IKB 310S15IKB YOGA 510-14IKB YOGA 510-15IKB" - none of which is my machine I'm pretty sure.  What can one do to find the correct BIOS and update it if the System Update utility doesn't give you the correct one?

The Lenovo Settings utility says that my BIOS is currently: 2SCN23WWV2.03

Thanks for any help!

Answer:Flex 4 1480 - Incorrect BIOS in Lenovo System Update utility

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Sorry to hear of the difficulties you are experiencing.  The warning message you are receiving during the update is partially correct.  Your model should have been included in that warning since that BIOS update covers all the models listed.   Here is a full description from the BIOS update's README file....

Flash BIOS update - Flash from Operating System version for ideapad 510S-14IKB, 310S-14IKB, 310S-15IKB, Yoga 510-14IKB, Yoga 510-15IKB, Flex 4-1480, Flex 4-1580Version 2SCN25WW(V2.05)Applicable OS Win10

I would try the upgrade again and click to proceed.  Otherwise here is a direct download link to that BIOS upgrade from the Lenovo Download Library for your model....

The minimum GPU frequency is 600mhz which is way too high. I understand the resolution is 3200x1800 but 600mhz as a minimum step is overkill and is sapping our battery life. 400mhz on the intel4400 is plenty for a smooth and lag free experience even at our resolution.

Hey! Got myself a brand new Yoga 910 and installed the latest BIOS update to fix the fan noise issue: http://support.lenovo.com/se/sv/products/laptops-and-netbooks/yoga-series/yoga-910-13ikb/downloads/d... However, immediately after installing the update, the screen started having graphical glitching issues with artifacts flickering on the screen all the time. For example, if I'm on my desktop, I have the Trashcan and Spotify icon at the top of my desktop, and I will see "ghosts" of these icons flickering over the lower half of the screen. I tried updating the graphics driver to the latest version but it didn't help: http://support.lenovo.com/se/sv/products/laptops-and-netbooks/yoga-series/yoga-910-13ikb/downloads/D... The graphical artifacts that flicker on the screen seem to be based on what content I have on the screen currently. The computer was fine when I got it. My exact process has been: Getting the computer, everything is fineRunning Windows UpdateUsing the computer, everything is fineDownloading and installing latest BIOS updateNoticing flickering which never was there before the BIOS updateRestarting computerInstalling Intel DriverRestarting Computer But it's still flickering all the time. Needless to say this makes the laptop unusable.

After installing the BIOS updater off of the lenovo website, and the updater runs for the first time, this is the error message i get""the version of rom file is the same as that of bios"screenshot attached I am attempting to fix the yellow colour issue. Does this mean that the update was already installed?  I received my Yoga 2 Pro on the 23rd of December, so was it already pre-installed? Also, when my brightness is on low, especially in dark enviroments, i can see a flickering (not the brightness adjusting itself, i already turned that off in the three places that auto-brightness was on). I do not notice it on higher brightness'. It happens whether it's plugged in or running on battery.

This is not a question, but really a suggestion to all of you who are about to update your BIOS. Lenovo released a new BIOS version for Lenovo Yoga 720 15 inches (BIOS Update - 10 [64] - V.4MCN24WW. This update brought back fan noise and frequently operation like it was before the BIOS update (BIOS Update - 10 [64] - V.4CN23W).  So the 24th version of the update is running fans as loud as the 22nd version. No good. If you know how to fix this problem then please let me know. Please do not update your BIOS because it brings back loud fan noise. I am hoping the fan issue thing will be fixed. The reason I did not want to purchase Lenovo Yoga model because they have been notoriously known for fan noise. The problem that was fixed with the 23 version of the BIOS update seems to be back with the 24 version.

Good Morning, I just got an Flex 4-1570 Laptop and installed the most recent software update and now the physical click on the touchpad is not working anymore. I rolled back the driver and tried to change the settings but neither worked. The synaptics driver is currently on version 19.0.17.104. Would anybody know which synaptics version the flex 4-1570 comes with initianlly? That way I can just install the old software that worked.

I'm product owner of Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro & I've recently updated my bios to 76CN43WW. Updated display driver of adapter and monitor using the Auto Online Detect. Afterwhich my screen brightness is always at max, unable to adjust, and my external HDMI monitor no longer able to detect. I searched online with many similar problem and tried all of it, and trust me, the basic stuff like disabling auto brightness and adaptive brightness etc etc has been done. I even tried reset to factory but to no avail. I believe the problem might be the bios itself but I'm not too sure how to download/rollback to previous BIOS version or is that even the solution to it. Hello everyone! I ama new user and i am coming up with this post as I couldn`t find any kind of solution for my problem.Recently I decided to do a reinstallation of my operating system, which also previously was Windows 7 Ultimate (x64). The installation went as usual, and after finishing it I went on to install all the latest drivers from the Lenovo site, for my product. When getting close to installing almost all the drivers i`ve needed, i stumbled upon a new version of the BIOS amnd the drivers and sfotware recommended for my laptop, by the producer. So i proceeded to install the upgrade, restarted the computer when it prompted me to do so, but after the so-called restart the laptop did not boot up as usual. At first it was telling me to not do anything as the BIOS is being flashed and then it was telling me something about some sort of image processing, things that i did not understand at the time (i have never encountered anything like that). After that my screen turned black. I have not done anything for a few couple of minutes as i thought it was supposed to be like that, but then i just force shut it down and unplugged the AC adapter. When trying to boot it all up again, the only thing i got was a black screen and nothing else. After doing a little bit of research it appears that, somehowm i`ve managed to corrupt the bios on my laptop or something, and nothing else would work at this point. I tried to remove the BIOS battery and the ram and then put them all back, trye... Read more

Hi. I have a Lenovo B50-30 mode 80ES. It was set to require a password on startup starting with a capital "A". While experiencing charging problems, amongst other things, I updated the BIOS to 9CCN35WW, downloaded from the Lenovo support site. Since updating, the laptop no longer asks for a password on startup (No big deal, I applied a windows password), however, when pressing F2 to access the BIOS (which I need to do, the F keys are the wrong way round), it asks for a password, When pressing to strike a capital A, the laptop beeps and doesnt enter it. It wont accept capital letters anymore, therefore it wont accept the pre BIOS update password. I have referred the laptop to Lenovo service, including returning the laptop, and they have been nothing short of useless. They said they couldnt repair it under warranty because of "Marks, cracks, inappropriate treatment" and it would cost Ģ255 for a replacement system board. I really couldnt see why I should pay for an issue created by their support system, so I asked them to return it unrepaired. Upon arrival, the laptop was immaculate, so I dont know what damage they were referring to. Is it possible to downgrade the BIOS to a pre update revision, to change the password and then reset it to one the new BIOS approves of? Thankyou in advance.

When running Windows 10 Update on a 6 month old Flex 4-1580, a Lenovo Firmware update momentarily appears in the list of updates, but then disappears. I have a Lenovo Z40-70 (owned it for 1.5 years)  and my fans were having some problems the other day. After googling around a little, a lot of people suggested making sure my bios was up to date, so I downloaded and ran this update: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds100528 The update restarted my laptop. After the restart, I got the "EFI network 0 for IPv4 boot fail" for IPv4 and IPv6. This is because my HDD as Windows 7 installed, not Windows 8 (which is the OS that the laptop shipped with.) I knew all I had to do was go into the BIOS and change the boot priority from UEFI to Legacy, so I rebooted and used the NOVO key to get into the BIOS.  Then the BIOS asked me for a "System Password." I have never set a password for my BIOS and I have accessed my BIOS before the update without a password just fine. I did not set this password, I did not create this password. And just to be sure, I have attempted every single password I've ever made in my entire life on this with no dice. This problem only appeared after the BIOS update that I linked above. In a mad attempt to fix the problem, I took apart the laptop hoping to find a CMOS jumper or something like that. Well, the Z40-70 doesn't have a CMOS jumper, and its battery is soldered on to the board. I bet its stored in EEPROM anyway, so that all would be useless to begin with.  All I need to do is get into the BIOS to change the boot order to boot my "legacy" hard drive. Right... Read more

Answer:Lenovo y510p bios password after bios update

Have you, possibly, flashed a BIOS downloaded somewhere else other than Lenovo website? e.g. downloaded, from a "BIOS unlock" forum, another user's unlocked BIOS, and flashed it on your own machine. (bad, bad move) If that's the exact case, you're out of luck. Either the original BIOS user has to supply you with his password (unlikely, as if they do so, they'll have an exact clone -- windows key, mac addresses etc -- of his machine over the world), or you'll have to buy some specific hardware to write directly to your BIOS chip. ---------------------  If that's NOT the case, perhaps there was an password stored previously, and it re-activated after you updated the BIOS? Have you bought this laptop from someone else or is it yours since new? Try getting the password from the previous owner, or sit for a while and try remembering the password you've set previously.  I've updated my Y50 to v3.08 and it didn't ask for a password. Also, if the Y510P BIOS is similar to the Y50, don't bother trying to remove the CMOS battery (which, again, if it's anything like the Y500, it's soldered on the board!), as the password is not deleted if you disconnect it.

Hi! I'm running Ubuntu on my Flex 2-14. Is there any possibility to update the BIOS without reinstalling Windows? I already tried running the update programm from within a Windows PE (on a flash drive, 64bit Windows, winflash64.exe) but the command line tells me that this program is not compatible with this version of Windows. Is there some ISO or DOS based flash program for this notebook? Answer:Lenovo B50-30 bios corrupted after bios update

hi nikola1970,

Welcome to the Forums.

Can you try the following:
1. Do a hard shutdown by holding the power button for 10secs.
2. Press the OneKey Recovery button and see if you get the Novo Button Menu where you can access the BIOS or even perform a factory restore via System Recovery.
   - Link to picture

3. If accessing the BIOS works but you're not able to restore Windows, you can try the following:

Option A:
  a. Contact lenovo and request for a recovery disc and/or to reflash the BIOS (you may need to send the unit in this case).
    - Support phone list

Option B:
  b. Check this guide on how to obtain a Windows 8.1 ISO (see Option One)
  c. When finished, follow this guide to make a bootable UEFI Win8.1 installer via DVD or USB flashdrive and use it to install Windows (the installation should be able to detect the Windows 8.1 product key in the UEFI firmware that will let you activate Windows).
  d. If successful, obtain the drivers from the lenovo drivers page .

Hi everyone,I have a severe problem (I guess) after the latest BIOS Update. Windows 7 freezes during startup.I own a 64-bit Lenovo FLex 2 15D with AMD A6-6310 and R4, 4GB RAM and a SSHD (8GBSSH). I purchased it without OS and installed Windows 7 - which worked fine so far.I yesterday updated the BIOS with version 9FCN23WW (for Win7 and Win8), the latest BIOS update. A mistake, it seems. After Reboot, I first had to disable Secure Boot in the BIOS, because it would not let me boot at all. I figured out how to get into the BIOS-Setup to disable this (press Enter 2x, press Tab when in the Boot Menu to access the "Apps Menu", then "SETUP" - just in case this helps someone). Now Win7 begins to start up, but freezes during the startup process (the splash screen with the win flag freezes and looks a bit strange. I used the "protected mode" Windows Startup and saw that the process always hangs when loading "amdkmpfd.sys".That is basically it.I guess I have to find a way to re-install the previous version of the BIOS, but I have no idea how!Any idea?!.......Now about what I did to fix this (poor, but I tried):If I try to start from a Win7 installation CD-ROM (actually it is one for Dell PCs, but I guess that is not the problem) and press a key to boot from CD, Windows loads files, shows "Starting Windows"  and at a certain point again just freezes. When I -do not- press a key, WIndows Boot Manager shows up and mentions that "Windows failed to start (etc.)" "File: \EFI\Microsoft\Boo... Read more

Answer:Boot Fail after latest BIOS Update on Flex 2-15D

I found our the solution to my problem with the help of SebastianLenovo ... In the BIOS / Boot Mode, I switched back from "UEFI" to "Legacy". That's it. That simple. The BIOS Upgrade routine just did not transfer that setting from the old BIOS to the new. Given the fact that 1. I did not change that setting, so it is default and 2. it would have been easy to avoid, if the BIOS update routine would be well programmed to transfer the current BIOS settings to the new, upgraded BIOS ... Anyway a strange situation that a 64-bit system has a 32-bit BIOS. Actually no Linux distribution (except FatDog and rescue systems) are able to deal with it - Linux only running as a Virtual Machine under Windows. I think this is inappropriate and really taking away a part of the fun if you can not run this laptop as a dual boot system. Thanks to Sebastian and I hope this solution helps someone in the future... Regards, Tristam.

I'm having an issue with my Lenovo Ideapad Flex 4-1580: I still can't find the solution of whether it's safe or not to update the BIOS with the recommended one (shown as "BIOS Update - 10 [64]") that is a recommended update in the Lenovo Companion.  During installation, an alert message popup states: "This BIOS is only for Lenovo ideapad 510S14IKB 310S15IKB YOGA 510-14IKB YOGA 510-151IKB. Are you sure you want to update this BIOS on this machine?" Obviously, I am NOT sure which is why I'm here searching for the correct answer. My machine info:- Model: 80VE- BIOS Version/Date: LENOVO 2SCN14WW(V1.04), 7/25/2016 Please Help?

Tried to do BIOS update for my procesor but would not run. This is correct update for my i3-4030U CPU. But only says for Win7 and 8.1. There is a HORRID cursor problem that i am trrying in vain to resolve. Obviously a critical first step is updating BIOS especially since it was released the same month I bought my computer. It should have been on my machine but of course machine came with a 1yr older BIOS version. If there was a REAL solution to the spazzing cursor problem I probably wouldnt care but this issue is being blown off by Microsoft so I need to find my OWN solution. This issue occurs on EVERY manufacturers laptop and each seems to have a different fix or 'workaround' to compensate for the poor opeating system. Win10 was no secret in AUGUST when this BIOS was released so not sure why it didnt include Win10 especially since it is based on Win 8.1. Hope this critical update appears soon. I really would hate to have to wipe this thing and start from scratch since it is barely 90days old. I've heard Lenovo is not the product it was as recently as 1 yr ago. I would hate for this to be true.Off subject - I REALLY hate that 'what is DOS' supposedly funny blurb on my icon - I miss the pre-MS butchery version. Somebody owes their billions to good old DOS. If it wasnt for good old DOS commands, I couldnt do 'work arounds' for all the MS garbage I have to wade thru at my job. Just other annoying thing I suppose.

I've been getting the "Thread Stuck in Driver" BSOD when playing games for several months now and have just been trying to ignore it. However, it's gotten too bad to be ignored any longer. I've been trying to download a BIOS update (as another thread on this topic suggested) but the System Update program refuses to download the BIOS update it says I need every single time. I can provide more info on my system if necessary.  Thanks for the help.

In preparation for Win 10 key I updated the BIOS on an E520 using the Lenovo Service Bridge.  Os is Win 7 64-bit.  LSB showed old BIOS was backed up. Old bios   LENOVO 8HET30WW(1.12) New bios LENOVO 8HET44WW(1.26) Now bootup and windows start up are painfully slow.  Further there is a black screen in the middle of the wake up process. How can I undo the BIOS update to revert back to Old bios   LENOVO 8HET30WW(1.12)? Or can anything be tweaked to improve the bootup time?

Answer:E520 slows/black screen after BIOS update. Can I undo BIOS update?

Hello to the BleepingComputer community,First of all I'm sorry I haven't finished some of the steps from the Preparation Guide. It's because these steps require a reboot (e.g. Step 6: Disable your CD Emulation Software - DeFogger will ask me to reboot the machine), and I have a bad feeling about the question if it is safe to reboot in my situation: I'm not sure if I have a type of malware which is ready to infect the BIOS - if it is so, then it could infect it much easier during the reboot process.- If there is a good way to find out what is the problem (and fix the BIOS threat part if it really is present) without rebooting / shutting down this PC, or at least without booting from this hard drive (which I feel is probably infected), then please tell me what should I do.- If you know a place / forum where I can get a specialized help for this (seemingly BIOS-malware related) situation, please tell me where I could go.- If there is no way to move forward, I'll go ahead and risk the reboot, and follow the other steps (steps 6 to 10) in the Preparation Guide, no problem.I kindly ask you to please read below the details of the problem as it occured to me, and the things I have tried so far.The PC is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core BE-2350 2.1GHz, Motherboard Biostar TA690G AM2 (with AWARD BIOS), 4GB RAM, 200GB SATA HDD, and an ASUS EAH4870 card added a few years ago. It's with WinXP SP3, AVG Free 2012, (standard) Windows Firewall, and it's behind a router.I ... I noticed this too. At first when I tried to download it, I got the error message "file not found". Now I get"An error occurred while processing your request.Reference #132.26781bb8.1452343023.441e42" The changelog also is very strange. It just contains [Modified]Rename to v2.10.I would like to see a bios update that would finally fix the reclocking issue with my Yoga 3 11. Even with 2.09 bios I'm still stuck at 800 MHz sometimes.

I just got my Y2P.  Do I need to install this update?  What does it do?

Answer:Yoga 2 BIOS update v38

I'm a 'newbe' to this forum but will try to clarify in a non technical way.  The BIOS contains the basic data for the pc to startup; as sort of brain stem with all the electronic DNA between the full function allowing the machine to boot (start up).Updating the BIOS is rather like updating a programme to a revised version however 'flashing the BIOS is not without risk as it can destroy or corrupt vital data resulting in a boot failure mode. I've just done my update and there was a concern. Upon completion it did not automatically reboot as the instructions indicated. I was left with a blank screen and keyboard illuminated.  Very reluctant to switch off as this can destroy the BIOS completely. I contacted the support desk and indeed this seems to be a known problem of not completing reboot. Instructions werre to hold down the on/off button for at lest 8 seconds and it did indeed complete reboot successfully. My tip is print off the instructions before you start so you can recognise the step by step process. It only lists seven steps but the Tech Support desk has others beyond that.(!/?)Top marks to the UK technical help desk tele 0333 777 3991 (hope you wont need it!)

Now that this problem has occurred and I've been hunting for a solution I see that people generally warn against doing BIOS updates. Unfortunately I didn't know about that and was just naively letting the laptop go ahead with whatever updates it wanted. Had a horrible experience .. with good ending ... when upgrading Bios for my Yoga 2 Pro. So I'd like to share with others. I bought my Yoga 2 Pro last June (Man 3/22/14) and love it! But, it had problem restarting automatically after Windows Update. At least 3 times (That I can recall. Did not use it briefly from June 30 - July 22), the screen reminding user not to shutdown after Windows the update would stay on until I manually powered it down and restarted it. Last July 23, it did again after Windows Update. Searched Lenovo web-site and found a Bios Update for Yoga 2 Pro (Win 8.1 64-bit). Downloaded the new Bios (dated July 11, 2014) and went through the instruction striclty. First of, the screen responses were not at all as detailed in the instruction. So, the instruction is not very good.  Received 2 warnings: Make sure the laptop is connected to the charger during the procedure, and the bios is for Yoga 2 Pro ONLY do not install it on any other models. As part fo the procedure, the laptop switched to a Bios Utility program. Again received the aforementioned warnings. Update progress was shown on the screen. All of a sudden, then screen went blank and the keyboard stayed lit. Waited for about 30 minutes. Still the same. Press and held the power button down (not sure for how long)  ... nothing!   Just no response from the latop.  Called Tech support. She (the tech support lady) said that ... it is not recommended for user to go through th... Read more

The Yoga 2 Pro Bios usually hangs after any update. If it happens, simply turn off the computer and turn it back on. Upon turning it on, it should boot up without a problem. This has been discussed several times already . http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Idea-Windows-based-Tablets-and/Yoga-2-Bios-Update-Crash/m-p/1322487/high... At one point it was part of the intructions. Answer:Yoga 3 Pro BIOS Update Crash

Hello AlecarrascoThanks for using the Lenovo forums. You should be able to contact Lenovo support in order to request a recovery media for your unit:
Below is the link to the phone list where you can find these numbers

Try a static discharge for this, it may help to resolve the issue or at least get rid of any built up static on the motherboard.(If the battery is internal, please just skip the remove/replace battery steps.)1. Turn the unit off2. Remove the battery and the Mains adapter3. Press and hold the front power button for 30 seconds4. Replace the battery and the Mains adapter5. Turn the unit on as normal .
If these steps do not work I would recommend, that you call your local Lenovo support line for a possible service. Below is the link to the phone list where you can find these numbers

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.==================================================================================Did someone help you today? Thank them with a Kudo! If you find a post helpful and it answers your question, please mark it as an "Accepted Solution"!

I have a customer with a Thinkpad Yoga that has the issue where it won't go to sleep.  I've found numerous posts on this forum suggesting that we update the BIOS.  Trouble is that both from the Windows Utility, and the BIOS Boot CD, it just won't update.  I've confirmed that the machine ID and BIOS version are correct.  Neither utiltiy gives an error, they both say that it will update after a reboot, but nothing happens.  The machine still shows as using the very early 1.00 BIOS version after many restarts and attempts.   Thoughts?  Thanks!

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga Will not update BIOS

Can you try updating to a slightly later than 1.0 BIOS version, then trying the latest version after? Sometimes upgrading all the way from 1.0 doesn't work.

I opened my one month old Lenovo Flex 5-1570 to see what is going on inside because what I read / see is confusing and have these questions (I?m aware that my actions may void the warranty): The maintenance manual say to first unplug the battery plug and then remove the battery but I can?t unplug it. The only place to pull the plug out is the wires and I don?t want to apply too much pressure doing so. I also tried to pry out the plug with no success. Perhaps the plug is locked and I wonder if on the attached picture the 2 small holes shown on the top of the plugs socket are the locks and maybe I should put something to press into these holes to release the plug. Anyone knows if the battery plug is locked? For the benefit of other users, as per attached picture (noticed I'm only allowed to post 1 picture only) the HDD includes the bracket required to install the HDD and there is no cable required. Looks like the new HDD just plugs in. Also the manual says to remove 2 screws to remove the HDD but there are 3 screws to remove.

I've run into a quagmire and need some help.

I purchased a Lenovo Flex3-1570 and a Crucial MX200 250GB SSD to upgrade to. I've had nothing but fits trying to get this SSD running.

1. The SSD is recognized in the bios
2. The SSD is not seen by windows 10 installer (fresh install)
3. Can't clone drive due to 512/4000 sector size mismatch. (tried macrium, acronis, minitool partition wizard)

I've tried the following steps to try to resolve the issue.

1. Boot from legacy instead of UEFI
2. initialized SSD on another PC
3. ran diskpart "clean" command on SSD
4. Installed IRST SATA driver during windows installation

In trying to resolve this issue i've decided all "support" departments should be renamed "not my problem" departments......seriously a joke.

The only thing i can think of is that it is some sort of SSD DEVSLP (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DevSlp) issue and the SSD is being put to sleep after the bios loads and before windows setup loads, but I can't get anyone at Lenovo to confirm this is the problem.

I've run across multiple posts online about similar issues but all were resolved by initializing the drive or fixing a corrupted MBR with the diskpart "clean" command.

Hoping someone here can maybe help shed some light on the issue and help to resolve it, even if it means getting a different model SSD that will work with this laptop.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Welcome to TenForums, mk12delta.

Have you tried completely imaging the old disk and restoring the image to the SSD? A very different thing from cloning.

I just restored my x61 to original settings due to a problem with blue screens, and decided to update the BIOS right afterwards.  I followed the directions precisely and it installed all 21 of the individual components for this model.  I then shut down the computer and turned it back on this morning to continue loading software.  The system started with the fan running at high speed and stopped at the ThinkPad Screen.  However, nothing happened after pressing the ThinkVantage button and F1 or any other button for that matter.  I left it for a couple hours, but finally determined that I could not turn it off or do anything with the machine.  It just hung there.  I did finally remove the battery and replace it, and now there is no power registering when the machine is plugged in and it won't start. Is there something I can do to recover the system?  I suspect the answer is a board replacement.  The BIOS update failed in conjunction with something on my computer.  I am just 2 years into the warranty period in the US, so if I need to replace the board, what are the best options? Thanks for your help and comments....this is a very frustrating turn of events, since it is my work machine.

My Samsung series 3 laptop has been sending out popup messages telling me I need a bios update, I go to the Samsung software update site and this bios update has been failing, I have made several calls and chats to techs at Samsung who tell me to do what I have already done, they tell to ask for tier 2 tech, who can go in my computer and fix it , When I finally got a tier 2 tech, they told me the same thing, I told him what I had been told about him and what he could do, He said, is it working , I said yes, but settings on computer change on their own, like wifi turns itself on and that concerns me. Anyway, He said that it didn't need a bios update, even the Samsung website said this computer needed a bios update. I posted this on hardware, firmware concerns, and they told me to post here, I was going to go to a site ,that had a download that checked drivers, I was told to stay away from this.

Thanks,
Jim

Hi there again!

Now with a new and weird matter.

We all know that old say... "If it is not break, don't fix it". And if you put it into more informatic terms, "specially if it is a BIOS".

Yes, we all know that the BIOS is something quite dellitate to handle. For some reason we normally feel like if we were handling something like nitro-glycerine, or some radioactive product. And this is because we all know what is being put in risk in that moment: our (or sometimes others) computer, the full system could end as dead as some pieces of metal, plastic, and wires.

Well. I passed through all of that more than ten times in my life, and only once it went wrong. But since that old motherboard was already dead, It was not important. But I allways was EXTREMELY care. I allways cross checked everything before doing anything, allways got a backup and a way to restore that backup... and allways did this in COMPAQ systems, that were prepared that way. Updating a BIOS was just about preparing a disk, turn on the PC with the disk in the diskette drive, and wait. And if you didn't like the results, you simply click "return to previus BIOS" and that was it... very nice. And easy.

Few days ago, a friend brought me a Toshiba Satellite 1410-604 to solve some issues that were driving him crazy. After removing an expired Norton Internet Security, install avast and scan, I found more than one hundred files infected with a wide variety of virus, malware, t... Read more

Answer:Satellite 1410-604 - BIOS update > Incorrect BIOS update in the web?

Hi Fenix,

wow... it tooked very long time to read your post....

Maybe I can help you.

The Bios in the Web is the right one. So you have downloaded the correct version of the Bios.

The Askiris you have used is from Toshiba America which has most times not the exact models as Toshiba Europe.
That should be the reason, why the readme does not contain the European modelname.

I would try to make a fresh Bios update using the traditional Bios update.

Copy the files to the diskette, put it into the FDD, press and hold the Tab key while power on the notebook.
After the notebook has shut down, press and hold the key on the left side of the space-bar while power on the notebook again and wait until it powers off again.

If your notebook does not power on anymore, maybe the RAM is defect?

So, if the use of the traditional Bios and/or changing the memory does not help and your notebook is still dead you should go to an ASP, but this will cost money.

I have my fourth Toshiba notebook now and I had never problems with the Bios updates.

The 1410 is very old I think, so before going to an ASP, I would buy a new one ;)

best regards,

Maurice

How do I update bios when I use Linux?

I upgraded my yoga to Windows 10 soon after purchase a year and a half ago.  I have had few problems but one persists, intermitent problems charging with the AC adapter. There appear to be many Bios updates since the one that came with my yoga. I am running v1.03 and would like to update to version 96CN31WW(V1.17) but am justifiably concerned. - There is no means of backing up and restoring the current Bios so an update failure could be catastrophic.- The Bios readme file indicates it is for Windows 8 and 8.1.  I read a forum post that indicated that this shouldn't be a   problem on WIndows 10 and I agree but there is so little feedback in this forum or elsewhere about successful or   unsuccessful Bios updates on Yoga 2 13 so I am nervous about proceeding.- I don't know if this Bios update will solve my problem (no documentation from Lenovo about what any of the prior   Bios updates fixed) and there is always the possibility that this change could make my notebook more unstable. Again,   no means of going back.- For the reasons above, I always consider a Bios update a last resort. Anything else I can recover from and I am out of   warranty. I would appreciate any feedback on the stability and success of 96CN31WW(V1.17) updates and any information about what problems prior Bios updates for Yoga 2 13 addressed.

Answer:Yoga 500 - 15IBD - Bios update went wrong

What you can see there is a Boot menu. Your laptop can't boot from disk and display boot selection menu. Try to enter BIOS (can't say how to do it, as you didn't told which Yoga model do you have) and try to change boot settings from UEFI -> Legacy (or in other way) and/or disable Secure Boot. Check if after these changes your laptop will be able to boot.

Hi,

I just noticed the BIOS version on my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro was slighlty outdated : 76CN38WW, 27-06-14 instead of 76CN43WW, 13-08-15.

As I have never made such an update, I wanted to know if there were any risk of crashing / loosing data by doing such an update if you stick to the recommendations (laptop on power supply, not shut down during operation,...)
Is it meaningful to update the BIOS version ? If yes, why ?

Notice that when I run the diagnostic tool of Lenovo, it doesn't recommend me any Bios update.

By the way I didn't get notified about this update. How is it possible to get an alert ?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Philippe

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro - BIOS update - Risks and opportunities

Unless you have problem with your current BIOS, I don't recommend to update the BIOS.  One known issue with Lenovo BIOS update is they do update the "blacklist" for wifi adaptors.  Let say you need to replace your wifi card or want to upgrade the card with someting supports 5GHz, the new BIOS will make it impossible.  It will tell you the card is unsupported and won't let you past the POST.

How can I tell if this update is for my laptop? A message popped up saying I have a critical update and then this message says it is only for these models. Is it safe to say if I get this message then my laptop is one of these models? I can't find specifics within my computer to show if I have these models. I know I have a ideapad flex 4, but beyond that I don't know.
