Preferred Solution: Can i recover lost data from encrypted drive by Bitlocker

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Can i recover lost data from encrypted drive by Bitlocker

BitLocker is not the cause of failed to recover files.Format a drive will clear all data saved on the hard disk. Thus recovery formatted data will be a hard disk based technology but not related to operation system. There is no build-in data recovery feature in Windows operations. So we will needto use third party recovery tool or contact third party data recovery company for current issue.

As recovery missing data service will be expensive, we can also check emails and contact friends to see if that can help get a part of files back especially for photos, documents etc.

I need advices about how can I solve my issue:

I have an external drive. I started the encryption drive with bitlocker, during encryption process,
the drive has been disconnected so I wasn?t able to continue the encryption process.

Now, the drive is partially encrypted. When I want to access the drive, I got the error message
?Encryption Failed to recover from an abruptly terminated conversion?.

I would like a procedure to recover the remaining data: encrypted and non encrypted

I used M3 Bitlocker Recovery but the tool freezes, I am currently trying TestDisk 7.0. Analysis
is in progress.

You'll find attached screenshots and detailed description of the situation.

I have the passwords & recovery keys

ps: I cant attach screenshots

To install another operating system, I forced to resize my partitions.
I had a drive that was encrypted with bitlocker. After changing the drive and restart I noticed there were only two of the drives that on them Windows installed and another drives changed to free space.
Bitlocker encrypted drive was 100G and another drive 244G. Drives I converted to a drive then format it to restore my data. All the information was not encrypted, was returned but encrypted data was not returned even one bit. I changed the size of D to 200 GB again and after a lot of searching I found the repair-bde command.

this was result.
is there any solution to back my data?
please help

Hi,
please help
how can I recover data from a damaged disk (not physically) of an external encrypted Bitlocer.
Description of the situation:

After connecting the drive - I can decipher it by typing the password - but when you try to open the contents of the report the message "format disk"
- the disk probably has some volume damaged - it has been disconnected from the computer (without being turned off)
What I have done so far:

Using the "Lazesoft" program - I managed to copy (of course after entering the password
on the damaged disk)
the content to another external disk (full - looking after size) but -
this data is encrypted (mainly ending with .ER)
I am asking for a hint:

whether the data that is on the new disk can somehow read (on this disk I can try) [or/and]how to create a damaged disk image to try on another disk [or/and]how to repair a damaged disk (as a last resort) - I am afraid of total data loss [or/and]what other program to use to copy data from a damaged disk
but decrypted
Thank you in advance for your help
Best Regards

Hello,
I accidently formatted one of my drives which was previously encrypted.
I tried some third party software as "recover my file" but it didn't work.
Later then, I experimented on a formatted (not encrypted before) usb drive to recover files by same software and it did work.
After that, I encrypted the usb drive and then formatted it. Then I tried to recover by same software, but it didn't work. So, it's apparent that it is not possible to recover from a encrypted and formatted drive by a usual recovery software. Is there any
other method that can help me.
Please inform, I'm in a dire need.
Thanks.

I just started using BitLocker on a Windows7 Computer and am confused about one specific aspect of recovering data drives. I have read through the tutorials on here but I can't seem to find anywhere that explicitly states if this is possible or not.

From this link: Regain access to a computer locked by BitLocker Drive Encryption

I see the statement that "To unlock the drive and regain access to your files, you will need the BitLocker recovery password. If you also encrypted data drives, you will need to have access to the drive that Windows is installed on as well."

My question is if my OS drive dies, will the data drives be recoverable with the password and/or recovery key?

I am not currently in such a situation but I would like to prepare for all possibilities. Since a TPM is needed to store the encryption keys on for the OS drive (I just ordered one but have not encrypted my OS drive yet), are the encryption keys for the data drives are stored on the OS drive itself and this is the issue?

Most of the things I find on Google when trying to search about this issue discuss recovering a data drive that is failing, not a data drive that is in good health but does not have access to the system drive. Can anyone say definitively if this is possible, or do I need to be prepared to lose all data on data drives if my system drive crashes?

Answer:BitLocker Encrypted Data Drive Recovery Question

Based upon what I have read, your data drives will be UNRECOVERABLE if your OS drive dies. I would consider setting up a RAID 5 array for your OS drive for redundancy, this way if one drive dies, all you have to do is replace it and the missing data pieces will be recreated.

Hi All,
I'm hoping that some of the gurus in this area can help me to resolve why my transfer rate to my external hard drive is so slow (ranges from 200 kbps to 15 kbps), but is almost always in the 15-20 kbps range vs. an advertised/expected transfer rate of

5 Gbps.  That's < 1% of expected transfer rate.  Any thoughts on possible root causes that I should investigate?

I have an HP Probook 430 G1 laptop with a Samsung SSD 850 PRO 256 GB SCSI internal hard drive and 4 GB RAM running Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64-bit. I also have a Western Digital My Passport Ultra 1 TB external hard driveBoth the internal drive and the external drive are bitlocker encryptedI've connected the drives via USB 3.0 ports + cable. I've also connected the drives via USB 2.0 port on laptop and USB 3.0 cable.I've checked the My Passport for errors and found none.
Any insight would be much appreciated.

Hello,

I currently have Win 7 Beta as my main OS with a non-system partition encrypted with Bit-locker(without TPM). I downloaded a copy of Win 7 RC, but will the new OS recognize the bit-locker encrypted partitions? Do I need to decrypt this drive, re-install the OS and then encrypt this non-system partition again? (I don't have my boot partition encrypted)

Or will Win 7 RC natively recognize the bit-locker partition and I just have to provide the user key to mount the drive?

Thanks,
Icered

Answer:Migrating Win7Beta bitlocker encrypted data to Win 7 RC

Hello Icered, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I would recommend to decrypt the drive first, install the new OS, then use bit-locker to encrypt it afterwards.

well, here's my situation:

i had three audio files saved on my harddrive. these were original recording i wrote myself (one was a midi file, the other two were .wav files). my computer crashed, i reformatted my harddrive, and i reinstalled all software. i have been using my computer for several months.

my question is: are these files lost forever, or is there some way (other than having the surface of the harddrive scanned with an electron microscope) that i can recover these files?

thanks.

Answer:recover lost data from hard drive

Now that you've re-formatted your hard drive, those files are gone. A data recovery service (very expensive!!) might be able to recover them, if the areas they were written to weren't overwritten when you re-installed your OS and software.

I just flew overseas to study abroad for a semester and brought my laptop and my external hard drive with me. Well, after I arrived, I hooked up my external hd and fired it up, but Windows wouldn't show it in My Computer, so I went into diskmanager and it shows that the drive is unpartitioned. It's a Maxtor 300gb disk and had 3 partitions on it, a FAT32 and two NTSF partitions. But non of them show up. I also tried accessing the disk through Knoppix, but no luck. I have files on their that I really don't want to loose, how can I recover the partitions or at least get the files off and then make new partitions. Also, why would the drive have done this? Maybe the x-ray at the airport? I have partition magic, would that be of any help? Note: I can't use Partition Magic right now, because my laptop isn't booting into Windows right now, but thats another problem, if you want to help me with that, search through my other posts, I'm about to start a thread for that too.

Thanks.

Tell us the make and model of your brand name system, or if you have a generic desktop system, the make and model of the mboard. The specific model of a brand name system is shown on a label on the outside of the case somewhere, or it can often be determined by going to the brand name's web site. The model, sometimes the make, of a mboard in a generic desktop system is usually printed on the mboard's surface in obvious larger characters, often between the slots. The model is often also displayed on a logo (graphical) screen early in the boot, but it's often not as specific as the specific model number. For Dell computers, they have a Service Tag number - the specific model can be determined by using that on their site, or can often be determined there automatically by you downloading some software. The Service Tag number should be on a label on the outside of the case, probably on the bottom on a laptop, on the back on a desktop, and is often also shown in the bios Setup. .........Do you have, or can you borrow, a regular Windows CD, or do you have an equivalent disk that may have come with your system? E.g. some Dell, Compaq, and HP computers have one CD that came with the computer labelled " ....XP SPx Re-installation..." or similar - that's a slightly modified version of a regular XP CD. If you do have one, or can borrow a regular XP CD of the same version, Home or Pro, whichever applies, your best bet is probably doing a Repair installation of Windows procedure, which will... Let suppose I have encrypted a USB pen drive by Bitlocker, Most of the Windows versions have Bitlocker installed and the system prompt for the password, and decrypt the USB drive.
There are certain versions of Windows 7,8,10 like Home Single edition in which Bitlocker is not installed. Now what will happen if I plugged it in a such system, whether it will prompt for the password and decrypt the USB drive or not?

I have 1 partition encrypted drive from windows 7 ultimate, now if i want to change to home premium which do not have bitlocker feature, will i still be able to access the bitlocker encrypted drive?

Answer:bitlocker encrypted drive

My initial answer is no.. Because Bitlocker is not a part of the lower end flavors of 7 and must be poresent. You should decrypt the data first before downgrading the OS

However, with that said,,, there is the policy you can set within Group Policy for USB flash drives to "Allow Access To Bitlocker-Protected Removable Data Drives From Earlier Versions Of Windows" that can assure that you have access to the USB Flash Drive on other operating systems and computers.

I do not know if this will work on External USB HDD's. I have not played around with bitlocker a whole lot,, need to set some time aside for testing it out.

The Group Policy for this is as follows

In the start search type Group an then click on Edit Group Policy

Computer Configuration / Administrative Templates / Windows Components / Bitlocker Drive Encryption / Removable Data Drives

This policy also shows under Fixed Data Drives. But only mentions FAT file system, if you formatted it as NTFS, I am not sure it will work.

and there you will find the policy.

This policy settings configures whether or not removable data drives formated with the FAT file system can be unlocked and viewed on computer running Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, Windows XP with SP3, or Windows XP with SP2 operating systems.

But I doubt the data will be recoverable if you downgrade to Home Premium prior to unencrypting it.

Hello, I have a drive that I'm trying to retrieve data from and I have the recovery key. It's hooked up to another Win7 64 bit OS and while Windows sees the drive, Bitlocker CP doesn't and therefore is not asking for the recovery key to unlock it.

When I double click it in explorer it just tells me it needs to be formatted.

When the drive was in its own computer, it was stuck in startup repair. Diags returned a HDD error code but I was still able to unlock in natively to run the startup repair.

Any tips or workarounds here or is the hardware damage preventing me from unlocking it on another computer? The only reason I haven't tossed it is because I am able to unlock it when booting from it using the recovery key. So why won't it let me when it's hooked up to another machine with Bitlocker?

I have 2TB hard drive with partitions, one have windows installed on and the other is BitLocker encrypted for data storage. I dont know what happend to my pc while I was at work but my pc was restarted when I got home and now my computer only shows one diskdrive (C, where windows is installed). BitLocked encrypted drive D does not show. It does show when I open disk management but it has no drive letter. See screenshot. What are my options? Please dont tell me that my 1765GB of encrypted data is lost :S

Answer:BitLocker Encrypted drive not showing anymore

My first bet would be to make a Ubuntu Live cd (Or even better a forensics Helix boot cd but thats probably over the top!), boot into that and see if you are able to mount the partition.. If you can then I would backup the data somewhere if possible... I think im right in saying that you can still decrypt the encrypted data if you copy it elsewhere but I haven't had much experience of bitlocker, only truecrypt.

My personal opinion is not to do anything within Windows as if it doesn't see the data or partition it may start harming your data.... Good to know my 4 years of Forensic Computing isnt going to waste... I think the above is a good start.

Hopefully others out there will have some more / easier suggestions

Hi All,

I have been looking on the internet but can't find anything useful.

I protected data on my USB flash drive using Bitlocker in Windows. But of course I can't access it inside Apple OS X operating system. Yes I have a Windows VM running inside my MacBook and can access bitlocked flash drive this way, but this requires booting
up Window VM and becomes frustrating most of the time.

Does anyone know any possible way to access bitlocked flash drive directly inside OS X?
If the answer is "No", then my request to Microsoft is to please make a Bitlocker Reader/Access tool for Mac OS X and make everyone's life easy. This will definitely increase number of Bitlocker users; a win-win situation!

Need help with Bitlocker encrypted fixed drive (non OS ) on primary partition Windows 7 64bit Ultimate.

Drive D is encrypted however from last few days the lock icon displayed on the drive is missing and it is being displayed as unknown file system (Bitlocker Encrypted) in diskmgmt.

Tried All scenarios.
1. Unlock and then lock it again(reboot + shutdown).
2. Restarted the bitlocker service.
3. tried changing the drive letter .
4. Unlock + disk defrag .

Hi,

I have 2 drives on my PC. One SSD where Windows 8.1 is installed and a secondary HDD for movies and stuff.
The SSD is Microsoft edrive compliant so I just enabled BitLocker encryption and set a password, i.e. Pass1.

Later I also encrypted the secondary HDD and DID NOT save the recovery keys when doing that. I clicked smth like Automatically unlock or smth when doing that as the secondary drive was always available when logging in to Windows later. No need to enter a separate password.

Now, I formatted the primary SSD and re installed Windows 8.1 but now I don't have the recovery key for the secondary drive. Is all the data lost or I can somehow use the password to unlock it?

Thank You

Hey
My company is updating our windows, servers, desktops nearly every thing. we were asked to back up all our data on external drives, but we were forced to encrypt the drives with Bit locker, after the immigration to the new hardware and windows 10, I opened
my external HDD and USB Drive using the passwords I set earlier, and as I don't need the drives to be encrypted anymore, I right clicked the drives then choose "Remove password" which I thought it will decrypt the drives and no passwords will be
required anymore. I was surprised to find that my drives are still encrypted, and all what happened is that the password unlock option for my Bit locker encrypted drives was removed. it now only displays to option to unlock (another USB drive or recovery key)
and I don't have both. all what i have is the passwords that I set to the drivers, but the unlock with password option vanished.
can i return that option back so i can unlock both my drives using password? can you please advice?
thanks in advance.

Hi folks, Need some help here.  I reformatted (complete reformat with no personal preferences saved) of Windows 10 because of several glitches that were annoying.  I was smart to backup all my documents to an external hard drive that was encrypted with BitLocker.  But once the reformat was complete, the drive is no longer detected.  I can see the drive in Disk Management but it won't pop up in explorer and BitLocker does not prompt me when I plug in.  Help!  My two drives have all my backups and backups of backups!!! I've tried to update all the software/firmware/drivers but to no avail. I'm still under warranty but this is a software issue only I'm certain of it.   Help!

Team - Trouble here!! Have ~730 GB of data on my 1TB iOmega HDD. Turned on BitLocker on my Windows 7
system, set password, created and saved recovery key file, and i saw it started encrypting (very slowly, which i think is normal). Left it there for hours and when i came back I saw it is asking me for my password for my unlocking... which i entered and it

However, started my research and was shocked to find several people have had similar problems. Also references that data must be backed up before encrypting (may
be common sense). Well, i have not done that, did not know that a simple of act of encrypting could be such a crime, especially when you are encrypting what you have just taken a backup off - before proceeding towards a formatting of my laptop.

BitLocker was turned on on my previous Windows 7. It was working properly until I had to change my Windows 7 and reinstall it on another drive, this time SSD instead of HDD. After installing Windows 7, I got "Access Denied" error message when i went
to unlock the drive. The password was correct and the drive could unlock, but access was denied. I tried the built-in Administrator account and found that it had not this problem. It could access the contents of the drive and unlock. This was while my account
was also an administrator of the new Windows. So, I decided to rename login name of the built-in Administrator account to my own and use it instead of my own account. This seemed that resolved the problem. Then, I decided to upgrade this Windows to 10. Now,
after upgrading, I can't access the drive with the built-in Administrator account too!

Notes:

In my previous Windows which I could see the contents of the drive, I was seeing a tiny lock icon on the root folders (the folders which were located on the root of the drive), while this didn't appear on their sub-folders. What is that?
Now and before upgrading, I might and may access the contents of the drive by using Total Commander. This seems the only way. It can't access and then brings up a dialog and asks for using administrative rights. If I click the button, it may show the contents!
why? I'm the administrator already!
Issues like permissions in security or ownership seem not to be applicable,... Read more

Hi,
Actually i saved data in partition, then after added bitlocker security.
I have password and key also.
Then I unlocked it for sometime, Due to my friend mistake, he deleted entire data from drive (which was enabled for bitlock). Data was huge so it just deleted without going to recyclebin.
So now i can recover data with DATA RECOVERY TOOL from partition.
But Its encrypted. bcuz in that drive data was encrypted.
So when i try to access its marked as not read (encrypted).
I think there is no way to put same data back in bitlock cover and unlock it or other solution.
If you have some suggestions, Please suggest.
I will be very thankfull to you.

Hello everyone!! I lost all my data and *must* to recover it. I am hoping any praying for assistance in the recovery of my data that is "stuck" in my computer. I am very distressed because of this and I can use all the help in the data recovery I could get (I'm an "intermediate" in computer knowledge )

I will try to make this as short and concise as I can:

I run Win98SE (computer has a floppy disk drive to boot)

Synopsis of what happened (got a virus of some kind):

1) First, the entire desktop looked 100% "normal" but nothing (nothing!) on it was operable (double clicking on icons did NOTHING)

2) ALL the files in the START menu became unassociated (with any program to open & run them) and EVERY SINGLE icon in ALL of the subfolders changed to the "generic" Windows "unassociated" icon (plain white background with the 4-color Windows Pane)

2A) Note: All menus could pop open up from the start menu EXCEPT for the "Search/Find Files/Folders" menu...that one basically vanished!

3) A while later 3 icons disappeared from my desktop: the Recycle Bin, the My Documents folder, and...I'm not sure what the 3rd one was (could not remember what had been in that spot....but, it was NOT the My Computer Folder (although, double clicking on My Computer did nothing)

4) Then...a short while later....My screen flashed for a second or two and then ALL my icons on the desktop suddenly went to the Windows "generic&... Read more

Answer:lost all my data and *must* to recover it

Take the hard drive out, and install it as a slave drive in another computer or put it in a USB external enclosure and try to read the data.

I'm going to assume the file extensions changed to LNK not INK. You saw lnk which is not a capital I, it's a small L. It sounds like a virus, so the data may not be retrievable, but try the suggestion above. If that doesn't work, you'll have to pay a data recovery company to try, but you have to pay even if they don't recover anything, and it could get very expensive (hundreds of dollars).

When I first had my Lumia 920, I created a hotmail account to set it up and stored all of my information from the old phone. I never actually used this account for anything else. Yesterday, my phone was acting weird and said that some data was suddenly lost. Turns out I lost all of the contacts, photos, and music but apps and settings are fine. I didn't save any of this to the cloud (don't want to be J Law you see). Today I found out that my hotmail account no longer exists. Apparently if I don't have any activity for 365 days, it is permanently deleted. Storage Sense shows that I have 8 GB of unidentified data, I wonder if this is all of the things that I lost and because the hotmail account was deleted, it doesn't know where to go. I connected my phone to the laptop but the phone folder is empty. The majority of the recommendations I found is to hard reset the phone to see files in the folder. However, I'm afraid that the 8 GB will be lost if I do so. I asked my best friend Google but doesn't look like he has much info on this issue (maybe I should try Bing, who knows). I don't know what else to try so any suggestion is very very appreciated.

Answer:How can I recover lost data?

Hello,
According to the Microsoft Answers page,Deleted Hotmail Account due to Inactivity - I need to access those - Microsoft Community
"If you haven't logged in via a web browser 10 days after you created your email, it becomes inactive. After an account becomes inactive, all messages, folders, and contacts are deleted. Incoming messages will be sent back to the sender as undeliverable.
Your account name is still reserved.
However, if the account stays inactive for an additional 90 days, the account name may be permanently deleted.
If you don't use your Windows Live ID for 365 days, your Windows Live ID will be permanently deleted."
In storage sense did it say unidentified data or "Other"? If you didn't back up your contact, photos, and music to a cloud storage or on a external drive, your content may be gone. You can try going to settings > back up > then turn the back ups on, maybe it will be able to retrieve the unidentify data and put it in the cloud. Other than that, your stuff may be gone. I hope this helps.

Hi All
We have had real problems with our laptop the last month and discovered that our Fujitsu Siemens is not the only one with this.. No updates or service packs were received in four years and it all came to a head last week. Trying to install a new copy of Microsoft Office we found nothing would work. We had many conversations with tech help at Microsoft and in the end it was decided that we would have to completely reinstall Vista. We bought an external hard drive and thought we had saved everything to this before proceeding. Sadly we didn't realise that the saving of our photo folder was only a shortcut, so once everything was deleted and Vista reinstalled we put hard drive back in we found none of our pictures in it. I am now wondering if there is ANY WAY we can recover the lost pictures? Or has it all gone for good(6 months of new born daughter!)? Any help would be massively appreciated.

I recently had to reinstall windows, but instead of just wiping my original OS, i just installed a new HD and put the old one in a USB drive, the question i was wondering was, i was using microsoft outlook and i had a bunch of files that were saved and e-mail..... is there anyway i can recover them and put them on the new OS?

Answer:How can i recover my lost data?

Outlook uses a .PST file so search for that on your old drive. Then you can just import that or copy it over assuming you haven't started using Outlook already and have new email there. And your old files same thing. Depending where you saved them being my documents, desktop, etc. its all there under "Documents and Settings" and then the username.

Answer:How to recover lost data?

Hi,

it's very important to back up all necessary files before installation. Don't touch your system, I mean don't copy or remove now before recovering process. I advice you to use the recovery programs like:

1. EASEUS.Partition.Master
2 Ontrack.EasyRecovery.Professional.
3 Recovery my files
4 Power.Data.Recovery

All of them can recover your data, not sure that all data but about 90%. Note, thes programs are shareware, so you need them to buy or make Google search how to activate them. In trial mode, you can only recover but not to save data or save the limited size of file like 640 kb. They cost about $70 but ontrack recovery professional even $200. I like the Power data recovery, the recovery process can take some hours depending on Hdd size. For example, it takes about an hour and half for 200 gb hdd .

Hello all,
I have a Seagate 320GB external hard drive. It was dropped last night while plugged in(nothing major really), but now the majority of its files do not show up in Explorer. I do not want to pay an arm and a leg for data recovery services, but I'm afraid that is going to end up being the case. However, I am hoping someone on here will be able to help me before I commit to such a financial burden.

I downloaded GetDataBack last night, and it gave me errors related to being unable to read certain sectors. Their website told me to make an image of the harddrive and then to try and recover that image instead, but it too gave me sector-reading errors.

Any thoughts?

Also, all of my music files iTunes uses is on the drive. I am still able to open iTunes and play those songs that I can no longer see in Explorer.

Hi!
I am running Windows 7 Enterprise with Bitlocker.
Unfortunately I ran into problems booting up and eventually it looked like the harddrive (SSD) was malfunctioning. My backup solution was fresh so I haven't given it much thought, just replaced the drive, but I would still like to know if it's possible to
recover data from the drive while it's encrypted with Bitlocker?
I have searched the net for info but none of them seem to focus on my problem; the drive itself shows no volume information, so I'm unable to run any decryption protocols on it. Therefore I'm unable to run any recovery software on it either.
I'm afraid I might've made the situation worse with my attempts at recovery, but still, any help is appreciated!

Best Regards,
Heini

NO! Don't do anything that involves the hard drive at this point. You will need to use another computer to create a disk recovery boot disk from a recovery program and use that to boot the computer with the affected hard drive and then let the program do its thing.

This is the program I have used in the past, and I think Brink recommends it too:

You can try this one for free, the company is a pretty good company, but I haven't used this software:

Since I have tried to recover the partitions with Acronis Disc Manager but the volumes it identifies do not fit. There are three partitions. The primary, the HP recovery and the HP Tools. Total disc is 465GB. The primary partition is 452.
The results I get have seven or eight partitions sizing various sizes between 190 - 350 GB. They all seem to intersect.
i them tried the free EaseUS app which lists multiple versions of every file ever deleted.
Is there any easy way to do this? I still would need to fix the original problem regardless.

Hello MountainDoc Welcome to the Ten Forums!

What you may well be seeing there is often referred to as "Phantoms" or falsely positive ghosting type volumes when try to scanning for missing volumes. boot sectors, etc. Some information about that is provided by a recovery program called ZAR you can look over at Partition recovery - understanding and recovering partitions.

EaseUS however is a much more familiar program that offers a free version as well as the usual paid for you can download from Free Data Recovery Software Download to Recover Deleted Files - EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard Free Edition

Many on the forums here as well as the sibling forums at EightForums, SevenForms, VistaForums, and the PC Help Forums will recommend that one quite often. Sometimes it might take more then one in order to see a full recovery as far as the data you are trying to rescue. At other times especially with a drive failing you might take the drive to to a data recovery service or repair shop with that option.

HELP!! ohmy.gif
Before doing a clean install of XP Home on a Win ME system, I backed up hundreds of files on 1.7 GB Sec Master and 5 GB Sec Slave Maxtor drives. The XP install reformatted and loaded nicely onto the 60 GB C drive, Pri Master.
Now, XP sees all the files on the 5 GB (E drive) but says that the 1.7 GB (D drive) is unformatted, asking "do you want to format now?" No, I don't want to reformat and loose all the data that's suposed to be there. (The drive was full and readable before axeing ME and installing XP on the C drive.)
Is there any way to coax XP into reading this disk, or some other recovery method?

Thanks!

My friend has inadvertantly deleted my external 750Gig HDD and fomatted it into FAT32!!!!
Well, he at least tried too. It did not proceed with the format, always popping up with an error message. Guess this is due to the HDD being to large for FAT 32.
The drive is an WD MyBook Essential 750Gig. It had (and hoefully still does) 320Gig of data on it.
My friend had it connected to his pc and forgot to unplug it. When he decided to re-install his os's starting with 98SE it for some reason decided that the external drive looked the best to install too. So the prompts went through to deleteing the partition and then trying to format to FAT32. Thats as far as it got.
When I plug in my drive and select it, it reports that it is not formatted and do I wish to proceed with this. Of course I chose not too.

ALL of my critical data and back ups are on this drive!!
Is there any way to retrieve this data from the external drive. There is 320Gig of data on it. 200Gig being VERY important information on it. The rest I do not care about. As opposed to spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars for a company to fix it, is there a way to do this myself?
Any trustworthy and proven software that you are familiar with?
Can the drive be changed back to NTFS before recovery?
Does that matter?

Any help here is soooo much appreciated and If I can somehow retrieve this data, then I may not starve to death for as long as my wifes memory remebers this horrible event....

If it wasn't saved, I'm afraid you're out of luck.

Try searching in File Explorer

type a period in the search box - that is a wildcard and should return all files
Then click the date modified column to sort
then scroll down to the files and look for a txt or rft file with a stamp of yesterday

You could also sort by type and look at the txt and rft groups.

I don;t know what you saved as, but those are common types

When I was uninstalling Aurora, I had no idea that the user profiles were linked to my Firefox's and so I chose to remove all User Profile settings, bookmarks and others. Now my Firefox is brand new without any bookmarks.

How may I recover my User Profile settings, bookmarks and everything else? I have no backup of my bookmarks either.

Recuva doesn't seem to be working for me as well. I need help ASAP.

URGENT HELP NEEDED TO RECOVER LOST DATA!!
PLEASE!! can anyone recommend the best data recovery software to help me out of a desperate situation.
I have a 500GB external hard drive which stopped working shortly after I did a clean installation of windows 7. The power light comes on and message appears ?found new hardware - looking for drivers? but no drivers are found.
I have been told by tech support that I do not need drivers for it and there must be another problem with it and to get in touch with reseller to claim warranty.
This I have done and they will refund my money if I return the hard drive.
However my main concern is recovery of the data. I really do not want to send it away for recovery because of the private nature of the data. If I have to then I will have to.
So is there any software that I can try (I am willing to pay whatever) to recover the data, bearing in mind my computer is not recognising the hardware?

Answer:Urgent!! Help needed to recover lost data

I have used Stellar Phoenix with success several times before, and it is reasonably priced. Never used it to recover an external drive though. I am using an Asus laptop using Windows 7. It suddenly crashed the other day. It had run out of batter, so when I charged the battery and ran the laptop again, suddenly I was taken to a screen where I had to restore the laptop to its original factory settings and then lost all my data. I then installed and ran TestDisk to try to recover my data. After using it to search for the partitions, I restarted the laptop.

Now, I am always taken to a Windows Boot Manager screen. It asks me to insert the Windows installation disc. However, this laptop never came with one. In fact, it doesn't even have a CD drive, as I would have to buy a seperate external CD drive. It also says "If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance. Status: 0xc00002225 Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible"

Is there any way I can get out of this menu and retrieve my lost data? Or should I just contact Asus for assistance?

Hello,
I plan on installing Truecrypt and encrypting a second drive, to which I will put all my accounts data. I did this a while back and couldn't figure out a way to backup the faux drive with my Paragon Software. It would not recognize the virtual drive, nor the encrypted drive. I would copy the virtual drive to a folder on my boot drive and then just back that up.
Is there an easier way. Between the time to copy the files, do the backup and then delete the files securely off the boot drive, it is exceptionally cumbersome. Not to mention the drive wear.
Thanks for any advice!
Glenn

i used bitlocker to encrypt, the process didnt get more than 10% done before failing, the result is a partially encrypted drive that is locked ( password and recovery key wont work) i need a program that will help retrieve the remaining data that is not encrypted.

Answer:recovering data from partially encrypted drive

Try using "Recuva" - see free program list. First do a normal scan then a deep scan if required. A deep scan can take quite quite some time.

Hi...

I was fixing the partitions on my 500 GB hardrive...since vista's disk management tool pretty much sucks, it only let me create 3 partitions (primary)...i already had 2 logical drives but i needed a 3rd...n there was no way for doing it...

i tried parition magic...but only works on XP...so i created a 20 GB primary partition n installed XP...still partition magic didnt work...I searched around and realized that if a windows vista partition is present, partitoin magic wont open...

so i deleted the partition to which vista is installed...still didnt work...

so cut it short, i decided to go without creating that extra partition...

but somehow along the process, an 80 gb partition disappeared!!! i thought if i install vista it would 're-appear'...

i did that...to no avail!

if i go to disk management, theres an 80 gb towards teh end of the timeline that says 'free space' (in lime color)

HOW did this happen!?? im almost 100% sure i did NOT delete that partition my self.... (and even if I did, it would give 'unallocated space' not 'free space'

IS THERE ANY HOPE my dad can be recovered!?? it was 80 gb worth of data!!

thanks a lot...

any help much appreciated...

Answer:80 GB partition lost (became 'free space') HOW!? possible to recover data!?

If you formated over the partition, it'd be very hard to get anything back much. perhaps if you'd only deleted it then yeah. but as it is, you can consider all that lost. soz

Hello, I've recently encrypted my main drive, and all is well. However, I would like to be able to encrypt one of my data drives as well and bitlocker isn't even detecting the drive's existence under "Fixed Drives"

I'm on windows 8.1 machine, the encrypted main drive is a SSD drive, and the data drive is a regular WD spinning drive SATA drive. Please help, I would like to have the WD data drive encrypted as well...

Can you at least see the drive in your file manager? What is the format of that drive?

Ok here is the deal. I had a new laptop that dual booted vista and linux. the vista partitioned was encrypted with bitlocker. I decide to give windows 7 a try so I repartition the drive in to one large volume, format and install windows 7. Everything worked perfectly. The problem is after about a week I realize there was some important files on the vista partition before I wiped everything out. I have found several data recovery programs the can recover files after a format, however they only show files that where on the linux partition. My guess is that the bitlocker encryption is preventing these tools from finding any of the vista files.

So the question is, Does anyone know of a application or company that can recover files from a bitlocker'ed drive after it has been formatted.

I am trying to enable bitlocker on our laptops which have a C partition (OS) and a D partition (Data)

I have downloaded EnableBitLocker.vbs and managed to enable the system drive encryption using
enablebitlocker.vbs /on:tpm /l:c:\windows\temp\bitlocker.log

The Data partition (D:) does not encrypt using this however. I cannot see a way to specify the drive using this script.

Can anyone advise how I can do this?

Thanks

Answer:Enable Bitlocker via script on Data drive

I couldn't figure this one out so ended up configuring the laptops only to have a C drive.....not ideal!

My Lumia 830 display was damaged and I had to send it to the supplier to fix it. I transferred most of my data from the internal memory but a few were left. I believe that they did a factory reset after fixing my display and now I would like do a "system restore" to retrieve those data.
I have not installed many apps (3 or 4 small apps maybe) since I got my phone back.
Is there any way to do that? I would appreciate your help.

My win7 was set up with 2 separate users - the disc drive was split into two areas so each user's data was kept separate, almost like two different drives. While I was away from the office the last few weeks, Microsoft has somehow automatically updated the program to Windows 10 and lost all the data on one side of the drive. I do have data backups to a flash drive, so I'm hopeful I can get years of business records back. What will this involve? Can I split the drive again? If not, can I go back to win 7 or do I buy a second machine. Can I transfer all data to Mac machine and be rid of Microsoft?
