Dell Inspiron 15 5555, won't turn on after normal shutdown

Question: Dell Inspiron 15 5555, won't turn on after normal shutdown

Hi everyone I have an issue, I have a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 Series, the model is the Inspiron 5555
After using it for a while I decided to let it rest, so a turn it off, when I came back the laptop won't turn on, the battery was fully charged and everything was working great!! but after that shutdown doesn't turn on, I already tried a few things

Pushing the power button withouth the cable and the battery on the Laptop, I tried it for, 5, 10, 15, 20, 30 and 60 seconds on different times and didn't work, sometimes it showed me like a white/amber led but didn't show anything and it won't turn on, and in a different occasion gave me a flashing fully white led, but it again didn't work, it doesn't give me any beep or anything

also I tried doing the same steps withouth the HDD, RAM and BIOS Battery, again no different result

Why is happening this to me haha :(?

The computer has the latest Windows 10 Update, 12 GB Ram, A10 Proccesor, HDD 1TB

Thank you so much for wasting your time on my case haha, I'm really desperate!

Preferred Solution: Dell Inspiron 15 5555, won't turn on after normal shutdown

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have just had the Windows 10 Anniversary update, and have an BSOD issues, This seems to only happen when I plug my Kindle into the USB 2,0 port (I have used the same port and cable to charge my Xperia M2 phone with no problem)
The BSOD says "SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDELED" and gives "partmgr.sys".
I'm thinking a Driver problem??
ps. has Dell produced any Windows 10 drivers??

Inspiron 5555
BIOS A08
Build 4302. 10 UEFI ROM
With battery and charger connected I push the power button
It shows the Dell logo then after a few seconds it goes dark and starts over.
After a few cycles it will start the SupportAssist to do a hardware scan but won't find any problems.
How can I fix this?

Hello!
I have bought this laptop on december and since then i sometimes encounter a problem: whenever the laptop is plugged in, the cpu randomly gets stuck at 0,96ghz or 1,56 sometimes, and the only thing i can do is to get the battery out while laptop is plugged in and put the battery back in. Sometimes i can just plug out the cable and wait a few seconds and plug it back in and the cpu gets back to its normal frequency, or... sometimes i just have to do these things more than 1 time to get it solved.
I installed the latest bios driver so this isn't the problem...
Thanks !

Just picked up this Inspiron from a Microsoft store with Windows 10 pre-loaded. I'm trying to install Ubuntu on it and I'm having issues. I've already changed the bios settings that pertain to UEFI and Secure Boot. I'm able to install Ubuntu but upon reboot I get a black screen. If I change the settings back from Legacy to UEFI, Dell's bios kicks in and says that there's something wrong with my hard drive.
Is this laptop "locked" to Windows OS only? Did I miss a setting somewhere? I searched and the Inspiron 5000 series is sold with Ubuntu on it. I've also checked if Ubuntu 14.04 is compatible and it is.
I've called Dell support and all I got was the run around. What should I do? I don't mind returning it and finding something else, but I would like to know why it isn't possible - if that's the outcome.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15 5555 and Ubuntu

hi! i stumbled on this while researching potential laptops to buy. Were you able to sort this out? were you able to use windows again?
w1n78there's something wrong with my hard drive.
This is worrisome and could be an issue with the hard drive itself and nothing to do with the compatibility of the particular laptop specs.
In general, laptop hardware doesn't get "locked" to an OS, especially if you were able to "install" Ubuntu in the first place. It means the hardware itself is compatible.

Hi, My Dell Inspiron 5555 is not powering on. I have just closed it with out shutting down and tried to power on it after 7 hrs then it is not starting, the Charging LED on the front edge of the laptop is not glowing when the power cable is connected. I have looked up in the google and tried to remove the "static flea", but did not work. This happened few months ago and I tried the same technique, which worked back then. But now it did not work  for the first few times, after 2 or 3 attempts, the laptop turned on only with power cable and battery removed state. Then I properly shutdown the laptop and connected the battery and try to turn it on but it did not turn on. And I did few more attempts to remove static flea, but the laptop is not working. Battery and AC adapter charger both are working with another Dell laptop when switched.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 5555, Not powering on.

Hi MIDHUN ANNE,
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system? Could you test with another power adapter if possible?
Does the adapter led stay on and stable or does it go off when connected to the system?
Please check if there is any damage on the machine. Check if all the ports on the machine are fine or misaligned. Sometimes if the pins in the USB ports are touching each other, they are known to cause many issues on the machine.
Press and hold the fn key + power button to turn on the system and it should initiate the diagnostics - check for any possible beep codes.
Does the power button come on and stay on or does it go off after few seconds?
Download the service manual - http://dell.to/2q7vwyB- disconnect the memory modules / HDD and check if the system responds.
If nothing works, then I would suspect a motherboard fault.
If there is no warranty, then you could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.

Hi,
AMD Radeon R2/R3/R4/R5/R6 and AMD Radeon R5 M335 Graphics Driver by Dell was released and last updated on 13 Jan 2016. AMD drivers on amd's official site has been updated many a times since then with significant performance improvements.
It would be really appreciated if Dell updates the drivers too or atleast let us know as what could be the impact of using drivers from amd.com (as in what all features could stop working)
Thanks.

hi, i have a question, i have a dell inspiron 5555 runing win 10 and i received an update message about bios upgrade a12. is it safe to update? here are some details about the update:
File Format:Windows/DOS
File Name:5455A12.exe
Download Type:HTTP
File Size:6 MB
Format DescriptionThis file format consists of a BIOS executable file. The Universal (Windows/MS DOS) format can be used to install from Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows XP, Windows 2000, NT, Windows 9X, Windows ME or a MS DOS environment.

there is no mentioning of windows 10...
so is it safe?

Answer:bios upgrade a12 dell inspiron 5555

Was it a program that you were running that gave you this message?  It all depends on where you got it from, if it was from Support Assist it most likely is okay, but just want to make sure that you are getting the right one and that it isn't some pop up that comes up on a website or something like that.

I bought this laptop -new- (Inspiron 5555) from HHGregg (a mistake, because they are not in my area anymore so I cannot return it).A few weeks after buying it, with normal usage, normal charging, the battery STOPPED charging.I have read many forum posts and seen that this is a common issue with DELL. I read some forums that said buying a new charger would work, as the battery test in BIOS says that the Battery is performing as normal, as well as running my own Battery test (also normal). This worked for a few days, and then went back to normal.I read another forum post that says to go into your BIOS and change the charging setting from Adaptive to Standard. I did this, and it did not work, as well as changing it to all the other charging settings just to see it that made a difference.I cannot update the BIOS, even if there is one, which I dont think there is, because my battery wont charge to 10%. I am stuck on 0%. So even if I wanted to unplug it to move to my desk from the couch I could not.

I have screenshots of Dell Power Manager telling me that the power adapter cannot be determined, even says this with the ORIGINAL charger. - and the "Plugged in, not charging" warning down in the bottom right taskbar.Bought this not too long ago, only a few months, cannot return, and can't afford to just go out and spend another $600-$1000 on another laptop at the moment. Many people said NOT to send it in to Dell because they will replace the motherboard/battery... Answer:Dell Inspiron 5555 (Plugged in, Not charging).

Was this purchased as a new system?   It's not  a current one - you should check to verify whether it's in warranty or not (it will need to be registered with Dell to activate the warranty):
www.dell.com/.../retailregistration
This is a 2015 model system so even if it's new to you, it may or may not have a remaining warranty.
If the system is OUT of warranty, go into Setup (F2 at powerup) and check to make sure the AC adapter is listed there -- if it shows "unknown", the battery will not charge.  In that case, the first thing to try is a new OEM Dell AC adapter.  If that doesn't solve the problem, the DC jack is next to replace:
www.parts-people.com/index.php
And if that doesn't solve the problem, replace the mainboard.
If the adapter IS recognized, will the battery charge when the system is powered off?  If it will, but won't when operating, it may be a Windows driver problem or setting.
If the system WILL NOT charge when powered off and the adapter IS recognized, chances are it's a bad battery.

I purchased a new Dell Inspiron 5555 with a AMD A8 processor and Windows 10 to replace a older dell laptop.
My problem is my Wordperfect X8 keyboard keys won?t work. Keyboard worked fine on the older Dell that also has Windows 10.
I went to Dell support site and updated drives which it had me update bios only.
I?m not a expert but I suspect it is the keyboard driver. For example all I can get the F1 F2 and F3 keys to do is volume control. Indent functions do not work with F7. I tried changing keyboard selection in WP custom settings with no luck.
Any ideas?

Answer:WordPerfect Keyboard Windows 10 on Dell Inspiron 5555

Just a hint, look at the Fn and Fx keys and their colored markings, some Notebooks don't use the Fn + Fx key for certain functions like others do. Some functions don't need the combination, just the Fx key as they are marked. That can mess up any change of the keyboard by programs.

Machine: Inspiron 15, 5555 (AMD chip)
Similar to this post about an Inpiron 5555 the Support Assistant recommended in Win10 upgrading Bios from A08 to A12. Unfortunately, similar to this post about an Inspiron N5110 the fan started to run like crazy and the update stalled at about 60%.
The machine is dead, cannot start with power button. The only way to get anything is either:
1. Hold down Home and push Power. Result: blinking green power light, no screen display, no beeps. After about a minute I can push the power button and the machine will turn off.
2. Or, remove battery, remove power cord, hold down Home and insert power cord. Same as #1 after that.
(By the way, I saw online that the Home key trick is probably Control-Escape for Inspirons with Intel chips.)
I tried to do a Bios recovery, but with no screen display, it is difficult. I copied the Bios file 5455A12.exe to a clean 4GB USB thumb/pen/jump drive and renamed the file to BIOS_IMG.rcv. Then I did #2 and got nothing.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Answer:failed bios upgrade a12 dell inspiron 5555

The cheaper option is to find a shop that can unsolder the BIOS chip, flash it externally and re-solder it -- the more expensive one is to have the mainboard replaced.

The flickering only occurs when the laptop is charging. It happens when I play games, and I have noticed it happen occasionally when I open the start menu. When playing games, it looks like the flickering may be changing the screen resolution. The flickering does not occur on a second screen when using an HDMI cable. I have installed all of the updates for the device and tried adjusting the screen refresh rate.
Could this be an issue with the power cord?

Answer:Dell Inspiron 5555 Screen flickering when charging

Hi there, Since the flickering is only local to the notebook and does not follow the HDMI connection (is that even when charging it?) this most likely is an issue with the screen itself or the cable attaching it. However, have you tried updating to the latest BIOS on the system? I know you mentioned updates, but that might be something worth trying first. Best,Brad

I bought the laptop from a guy I know and the PC is just 3 months old. But from the first day I got it I've been facing problems. I managed to get all the software problems fixed (Firewall detecting viruses where there were none, all my files turning into files of size 888kb, driver problems) but now another problem has come up.
Before yesterday it always seems like I have to press the power button twice before it turns on. Yesterday afternoon I pressed the power button twice and it didn't turn on, then I plugged it in and it turned on, and the battery was full. I removed the charger and it was still working so I don't know why it didn't turn on at first.
Later in the evening as usual I went to this place to use the WiFi there and after downloading some stuff I hibernated it and went back to my dorm room. Only to turn it on and be told that 'my battery is critically low' which shouldn't be so because I was charging it while browsing and the battery was at 100%. So I plugged in the charger and pressed continue, and all of a sudden caps lock and the battery symbol started to blink. The battery symbol was blinking white and off (with orange randomly blinking in between) and the caps lock light was blinking steadily. When I tried to type my password (my laptop password is 'anonymous') the keyboard seemed to be malfunctioning because it typed something like 'a$&@+nonyidjdjdjmous' , like, basically strange characters in between my pa... When I adjust the angle of the screen on my Inspiron 5555, the screen goes black.  Sometimes I get black-and-grey horizontal pinstripes across the screen for a moment before it goes black.  (These stripes replace the video display -- nothing is visible beneath them.)  Initially, this only happened when I adjusted the screen to a certain angle.  Now it sometimes happens simply if the computer is bumped.
The computer is not going to sleep when it goes blank -- if I am streaming a video when it happens, I can still hear the audio.  If I attach the laptop to an external monitor like my TV and set the display to duplicate, the TV display continues to work even when the laptop screen goes blank.
I thought that maybe a cord or wire was getting pinched in the hinge, but if I press the power button to put the computer to sleep and press it again to wake it, the display comes back like nothing happened.
The laptop is about a year and a half old -- I bought it on Black Friday 2015
Anyone have any ideas?

hi I have a inspiron 15 5555 and I'm having issues with the fall creators update with the amd a10-8700p video drivers the only driver that is working for me is 15.200.1060.0 which is from 7/15/2015. The latest ones from windows update, amd site, and dell drivers page wont work the laptop shuts off during install and reboots to no amd driver and uses windows default video driver. I have the latest bios
I noticed this issue when I was on the creators update and tried to update to the fall creators update and the update would fail. so then I used the default factory image and was able to update from that to the fall creators update with no problem but I'm only able to use the old video driver
has anyone else had this problem dell does list this laptop as tested with the fall creators update

My Dell inspiron N5040 is about 10 months old, it has been down for 2 days now, it went off suddenly when I was playing a game while charging it, none of the indicator lights come on, not even the charging light, the battery is okay (tried it with another system N5040) and the Charger is also not the problem as it charges the other system, another thing I should mention is that the green indicator light on all (3) AC adapters I've tried either go off or fluctuate whenever I plugged them into my PC.

Answer:Dell inspiron N5040 won't turn on after sudden shutdown, AC adapter green light turns off when plugged in.

Hi FREDZY07,
The Inspiron N5040 is over 5 years old model. Where have you purchased the system from?
Based on the description, if the adapter led goes off when connected to the system, either the dc port or the motherboard is faulty and needs to be replaced.
If there is no warranty, then you could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ
If the dc port replacement does not resolve the issue, then the motherboard needs to be replaced. You could also order the parts here.

Hi,
In reference to the following posting, http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19676126:
I am not the individual who initiated this query but I did have the same issue with my Dell Inspiron 5547, where it wouldn't turn on after a power button shut down.
I followed Hema's instructions by removing the battery and charger and then holding down the power button for a few seconds, and then putting back the parts. It seemed to have done the trick... At least for now. Is this just a temporary fix?
While doing a Google search for a solution I seem to have encountered a number of people who experienced the same issue. Can you also explain why this happens with this particular Dell laptop? Is it a model flaw?
Thank you

I saw that there were others with this issue. I already tried things like resetting the ram, taking out my battery. Even with my laptop plugged in, not lights are showing up and the power button isnt starting anything. I tried to listen and hear if anything was happening, but no luck. I just to get help if there is anything I can do to trouble shoot or just figure out what the issue is so I can get it fixed . I was running Windows 10 on there.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15R won't turn on ! No lights will turn on .

Hi PARTH511722,
What is the exact system model?
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system? Could you test with another power adapter if possible? Could you try powering on with another battery?
Remove the memory and disconnect the HDD and try powering on the system with adapter only / battery only and check.
Does the adapter led stay on and stable or does it go off when connected to the system?
If the adapter led is stable when connected to the system and there are no signs of power, then the motherboard is suspected faulty.

Hi,
I just ordered an Inspiron 15 5555 and noticed that it doesn't have any LED for power! and almost no LED at all, comparing to my old laptop, which has 5 LEDs, for HDD, WiFi, Power, Charging, AC connection.
The only thing that it has is one LED, which turns on while charging, and after charging it turns off.
so for example if it's fully charged, or it's connected to AC directly , and your screen is off, you cannot tell whether your system is ON or OFF.

Note: also you can change charging LED with HDD activity, which either way to lose one of them

After having some recent problems with my Dell Inspiron 15 5555 laptop, it occurred to me that there are no beep codes, which may have been helpful given that the laptop would not turn on after hitting the power button.  This model lacks in so many ways..there is no light on the power button, no backlit keys, and the one & only LED on the left front of the laptop, is only lit while charging (white) and amber when battery is low.  When you power off the laptop, I just watch the dark LED area until there is one quick flash, which indicates it has shut down.
I have tried looking for any information which either states that there are or are not any beep codes.  Everything I find refers to other specific models or there is the general Dell info which touts its diagnostic helpers...beep codes or LEDs.   Wonder if anyone here can shed any light on this.
Incidentally, I have a Dell Inspiron Desktop (2015) which I realized that it too does not have any beep codes.  I just find this odd, as the 10 year old Dell PC it replaced, had beep codes.  Again, it was something that I didn't really notice until I had to troubleshoot...

Answer:Inspiron 15 5555 - Why No Beep Codes?

The system does have beep codes -- if you're not hearing them, the system isn't progressing far enough into the power on self test sequence to produce them.
www.dell.com/.../how-to-use-and-troubleshoot-the-inspiron-15--5555-
If it's not producing beep codes, chances are the mainboard is toast -- try powering off, disconnecting the battery and holding the power button for 30 sec.  Remove and reinstall the memory modules and hard drive, and try powering up on AC only .  If it will but not with the battery, replace the battery.  If it still shows no signs of life, replace the mainboard.

I just bought a new 15 5555 and truly hate win 10. I have successfully loaded Win 7 on it except for the wi-fi driver. It appears the win 7 drivers are for A00 BIOS and don't seem to work with A11. Any one know how this might be fixed - or is there any reason for me to not try the A00 bios?
Thanks - jz

Used Crucial computer upgrade scanner and identified 8GB memory chips (2) to upgrade my 4GB system. The 8GB chips ar DDR3L-1866 Sodimm 1.35V CL13 kit.
I installed the memory chips and now all i get are stop codes, followed by "we will restart" ie. "Driver IRQL not less or equal"; Page fault in non area - RDYBOOST.sys"; Attempted write to read only memory - TCPIP.sys"; then get black Dell screen "Preparing Automatic Repair"; "Syatem thread exception not handled -USBHUB.sys; "Driver IRQL not less or equal - TCPIP.sys; "Driver IRQL not less or equal - Netio.sys": "Page fault in non page area"; "Kmode exception not handled" and more. Have only been able to get to Windows 10 start page twice when I was presented with an option screen to "Exit and open Windows 10; shut down; continue; open BIOS". Went to BIOS once and saw that speed was 1800, all other peramaters seemed to be OK.  When I replace the original 4GB memory I got the first opening screen saying that if I had not replaced memory that I should reseat memory. The computer went through a few reboots and then the Windows 10 screen came up.
Any idea why my computer will not accept this memory? Do I need to overclock the AMD E2 processor? If so how? Do I need to return 8GB memory chips and get a set with slower speed?
UGH!!!

Answer:Memory upgrade Inspiron 15-5555

Hi CARL A,
Does the system boot with the original memory installed?
Have you purchased 2*8GB modules = 16GB? Or 2*4GB modules = 8GB?
Dell has not tested the 1866 MHz memory on the system. We have only tested 1600 MHz for this system model - kindly find the specification here - http://dell.to/2pszS3j
I suppose you might need to return those modules and order the 1600 MHz and it should work fine. The system supports up to 16GB memory.

Last week I tried to update the BIOS of an Inspiron 5555, from A08 to A12, using the file in the dell site. When I executed the file it started well but then freezed, and some minutes after I tried to reset the machine but it didn't start.
I have tried several procedures to recover from a failed update. I tried to extract the hdr and the rom files from the exe file, but on the two cases it resulted in the same file with different extension (I used the /writeromfile and /writehdrfile switches of the exe file).
Some said that I have to put the rom and/or hdr file(s) in a USB and do the BIOS recover procedure:

detach battery and power cord,
connect the USB,
push the END button and
while pushing it connect the power cord

With this procedure, and only when the USB is connected in the USB connector in the same side of the power cord plug, the laptop went always on, with the fans at full speed, and the USB light seemed to indicate some reading as it flashed for some seconds, but without recovery.
By reading some posts, it seems that the naming of the rom/hdr files is important, and they recommend using some file (Andy's Phoenix Tool) which gives the name to be used for the recovery file. But in the case of this laptop it gives no name.
Others said that we can know the name of the file by looking in to the motherboard and see the model (AAL12 LA-C142P for this laptop, which I found under one of the DIMMS) and so I renamed the files AAL12A12 when I tried with the new bios or... Read more

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 5555 and the brightness control keys (F11 and F12) have never worked.  I was able to adjust it in my settings, but I wanted to get the function keys working properly.  I searched several forums and (against my better judgement) decided to uninstall my generic pnp monitor.  This method seemed to help out a lot of people having the same issue I had.  However, now I'm not able to adjust the brightness at all.  I can't re-install the generic pnp monitor as easily as I uninstalled it...so I'm wondering what my options are to get my brightness control to work AT ALL?  At this point I'm less worried about my function keys and more interested in being able to adjust my brightness some way or another.  Thanks

Does the warranty for Inspiron 5555 laptops cover dead pixels? It looks like I have 1-2 that are dead close the middle of the screen and am worried that this may get worse with time.

Answer:Dead Pixels - Inspiron 5555

Hi CATDAVES,
Are these pixels seen all the time from when you turn on the system? Please ensure it is not a smudge or dirt particle.
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check if these pixels are seen there as well.
Also, check if the pixels are seen in the LCD test - run the LCD bist - Turn off the system and press and hold the "D" key + power button to turn on the system and it should run the LCD built in self test - see this link for more info - http://dell.to/1SkXNrG
Connect an external monitor and check if the display is fine.
Check this link for LCD pixels policy - http://dell.to/1T3Ec1w
If the system is under warranty, write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email). If there is no warranty, then you could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ

Hello,
I have bought a i5 variant of Inspiron 7567 recently (in Turkey -  1 weeks ago). But I have some problems with it. I thought Dell branded tech products would be superior to some random Chinese garbages.
First of all, look at this nonsense:

After 6 days of usage, I wanted to look inside of this laptop. And when I opened the bottom cover I saw this [Admin note, edited per TOU policy].
The wifi card is not screwed at all. These kind of things generally happen with very low quality laptops without brands. Even QA of Chinese laptops are better. And I am not joking.
Here is what I have found on the internet: (This is a picture of a review unit from gotten from Notebookcheck)

Yeah wifi works without "that screw" but this could lead to shorting issues. I would definitely do not want to use a laptop like this so that I inserted SSD screw to there temporarily.
---
Second problem:
Look at this image:

I have only recharged it 3 times (3 cycles) and battery health is 91% now. And when I first opened it, it was 4.9%. Is this for real? Brand new laptop with a battery which has 95.1% health out of box.
Why my laptop has inferior quality SMP (Simplo) battery instead of superior Samsung battery like others. Why the capacity is now 67000~ mWh instead of advertised 74000 mWh?
---
Third problem:
Sometimes I get artifacts when I use a benchmark software like Furmark with integrated graphics. It happens occasionally therefore I do not have a screenshot. For me, it is not a b... Read more

Please check if Go back to earlier build of windows 10 option still there in the Update & Security settings. If there's a option, I suggest you select it to go back to the previous build. Type Settings onto search box, Update & Security, and then Recovery. You could always come back later and try installing Fall update again.

I started using this new laptop on Oct 12. Shortly afterwards I had the big Windows 10 update. Now I have an intermittent and random cracking noise in the audio. It almost sounds like some one has plugged a jack in to a PA system. I hear it through my headphones, my external speakers, and straight from the laptop (nothing plugged in to the jack). I have the latest BIOS installed (A11). I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the Realtek audio driver (7737). I switched to the Microsoft native driver. Nothing works. I tried "Chat with Technical Support" a few hours ago but no reply there. I can't figure it out.

I have an XPS 8500. The power is connected to my UPS. Whenever I turn on my UPS, the PC will momentarily turn on and back off by itself (for about a few milliseconds. Is this normal?
Also, I am not able to manually turn off the PC by pressing the power button, either pressing it once, or even pressing and holding the power button for more than 10 seconds. Such as every time I go to BIOS to modify or not, I cannot turn the PC off there. I have to reboot the PC first and have it boot directly to windows first and then shutdown the PC from there.
What if I don't have windows installed yet? I have no choice here except to directly power the PC's PSU by removing it from AC source.
Other than these issues, the PC runs normally.
Thanks for your help in advance.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1521 running Vista, and I've had it for about 2 1/2 to 3 years. Today I was online and all of a sudden a blue screen came up and my laptop shut off. I don't know if it was THE blue screen of death because I didn't have a chance to look at it, but it certainly was a blue screen of doom =/

Anyways right after the blue screen came up and my laptop turned off, the caps lock light (the lock icon w/the 'A' on it next to the power button) kept blinking. At the time, my laptop was plugged into the AC adapter charger thing (I don't know about how computers work, i just know how to use the internet!) so its not like the battery was low or anything. I kept pressing and holding down the power button several times with the AC charger thing in the laptop, and without the AC charger thing, and it would not turn on. The only thing that happened was that the caps lock icon would blink blue for about 45 seconds (or 45 times, not sure) and laptop would make the sound it always makes when its about to turn on. Then after the 45 seconds/times, the sound would stop. Nothing ever appeared on the screen.

The laptop was very hot at the time, but I've had this computer for years and its been hotter than it was today and it never did anything like this. Also, for the past 2 weeks or so, i've been getting a popup in the bottom right corner of my screen (where the time is) saying that my battery is reaching the end of its usable life and needs to be replaced. Before I get into my question I would like to disclaim that I am not at all a computer person, I mean I don't know the names of the different parts. Heck I can't really remember the model of my computer all too well buuut, I went to work today and my computer was off (as stated before it's an all in one Dell Inspiron) and I got home, deciding to play video games however it didn't turn on. The power button light is a white kinda blue colour like usual and it sounds normal but after about 2 seconds it shuts off (It doesn't even get to the screen with the Dell logo on it). I've unplugged my Wacom tablet and all things like that, also note the light on the cord coming from the back of the computer is on just like usual. This computer was bought in December 2015 so it's not old at all and I'm quite worried because it is so new and rather important to me so any advice would be nice, especially if you could break it down into simple terms so someone as dumb as me can understand. Thanks!!!!!

Answer:All in one Dell Inspiron won't turn on

We need to know the exact model number. If you don't know it but have the Service Tag number (look for a sticker on the PC), go to Support and type that number into the Enter a Service Tag or other product ID box about 1/3 down the page. It should tell you the model number.
You can try this for starters:.

Disconnect the power cord from rear of PC; don't just unplug it from the wall
Now press/hold the power button for ~30 sec
Reconnect the power cord to rear of PC
See if it boots now

Hi Experts,
I have a 3 year old Dell Insiron 15-5521 laptop.

I have tried to keeping the power button pushed for 30 secs and then plugging main power back in, but nothing.  I have also tried a Universal power adapter which I know works on other laptops, but nothing.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi everyone, i just bought a Dell Inspiron 1564 laptop delivered on friday 31/07/10
I started it up for the first time yesterday and it worked fine. Today i was using the laptop and all of a sudden the screen went black and i heard a buzzing noise comming from the laptop, so i tried crl-Alt-Del nothing happened so i just switched it off. Now the thing will not start at all. there are three lights on the bottom of the keyboard a power light a battery light and another light with a picture that looks like a round drum. When i press the power button the power light and the drum light flick on then off. i can hear a very slight click come from the laptop but nothing else no fan no screen nothing. I'm going to contact Dell customer support but there not open on Sunday.

My single-surface touchpad is exasperating and I would never buy this model if I knew... Much of the time, a right-click behaves simply as a left click. For instance, a multiple hits Google search page disappears and becomes simply the one selection I'd intended to "open in new tab" from the customary drop-open submenu, which fails to appear upon right-clicking a hit.
Also, right-clicking a highlighted block of text often simply removes the highlighting instead of providing a drop-open submenu for "copy" or "cut" or the like.
I'm trying to get in the habit of substituting two-finger taps for right clicks, but that choice is unreliable and fails rather often.
Dell ought to be all over this, but improved drivers haven't been offered.  Short of resigning myself to using an external mouse on a table top (not exactly why we wanted a laptop with touchpad in the first place), is there anything I can do to improve this temperamental touchpad's performance?  I've done my best with settings; nothing corrects the performance problem described here.

i bought a dell inspiron 5555 laptop with windows 10 home

well windows 10 would reboot with a blue screen and an error something about a watchdog
i tried updates and reinstalling windows (both reset from origional and install from usb then installed drivers) and it never quit
iv been using arch linux for about 6 months and it still reboots randomly and even sometimes freezes (with caps lock light blinking and the audio repeats last couple sec. over and over if its playing anything at the time)

my guess is some kind of hardware malfunction but if it is i have no idea where to begin figuring out whats causing it and dell just pretty much ignored me so...

has any one else had this issue and managed to fix it or should i just toss it and get a new one?

Hello! I've bought a new Dell laptop just the other day, the Inspiron 15 5555 AMD, and when I came home I was feeling so excited and so giddy to use it. I found (to my displeasure) that it came with Ubuntu and that basically you had to do some difficult steps to get Adobe Flash Player, which annoyed me to no end, as I was expecting to play some games online and I don't have that kind of patience with complicated things. Never mind me venting out my frustrations , this is not a problem at all, since I'll just install Windows. The laptop itself is a work of art (and it's silver, yaay), I'm already hopelessly in love with it. :D But anyway...
The main problem is that when I plug in my headphones (with no mic, just basic headphones) into the combo audio jack, and if I happen to be playing some Youtube video, as soon as I click on fullscreen mode, the screen of the laptop flashes blue a few times and very quickly. At first I thought that the video I was watching was pranking me, but then I found out that it wasn't, as I clicked off of it and repeatedly took it out, reinserted it with fullscreen either on or off. Of course, I didn't do that too many times, out of fear that it might been short circuiting (not very tech savvy, sorry) or something and I was only making it worse. Also out of fear, I didn't try going on any other sites with the headphones on, and simply tossed them aside and used the speakers (which sound AMAZING, by t... Read more

Answer:Inspiron 15 5555's screen flashes blue when headphones are plugged in

Hello. I don't have a solution, just the standard advice to update the BIOS, video and audio driver. Maybe try a different browser.
It should make no difference whether you have headphones or a headset. The combo jack is supposed to work with either. I don't think the brand or type of headphone is significant, just the fact that there is a plug in the jack.
I know nothing about Ubuntu. Maybe someone on the Linux board could say whether this is related to the operating system. I would be surprised if this problem persists after you install Windows.

Hello there,
My name is Khang, I bought a laptop Dell Inspiron 7348 (Service tag 4GWSB32) when I was in Seattle for business in May last year.
Just about recent weeks, my laptop shutdown unattended after few minutes or 20-30 minutes depend on what I am opening.
I ran F12 check or Support Assist tool, but they seem not showing anything wrong. I doubt this situation is related to CPU over heat at 70 C degree.
After shutting down about 10minutes, laptop automatic turn on, but when I use it, it will turn off after a while.
From discussing in Dell’s forum, I see instruction about disabled Intel speedstep may fix this, but I don’t have code for unlock setup.
Please show me how to fix this.
Thank you,
Khang

Hello Friends,
Yesterday i was working on my Dell Inspiron 15R 7520 SE laptop and suddenly laptop shutdown.
When i booted the laptop again, it again shutdown after few seconds.
Then, i thought that i was just a overheating issue so i disassembled my laptop and cleaned the cooling fan. But still facing the same issue, the laptop keeps shutting down after few seconds of startup...
Please tell me the solution regarding this problem..

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15R 7520SE shutdown after few seconds

Try without the battery - if it'll power up, replace the battery.  If not:
Try one memory module at a time to see if one is bad -- or one socket is bad, and replace the corresponding part (socket or mainboard;  if one module stops POST in both sockets, replace the module -- if one socket stops POST with either module, replace the mainboard).
If that doesn't solve it, the mainboard is bad.

What I am noticing is that it will not shut down using the start tab, also won't restart, it will only hibernate so only a hard shutdown is working. Answer:Dell Inspiron N5010 shutdown issue

Sometimes malware will keep Task Manager from opening using Ctrl+Alt+Del. Go to c:\windows\system32 and copy taskmgr.exe to the desktop. Rename taskmgr.exe to something else like fix.exe and double click it. If Task Manager opens then the computer may be infected.

Are you talking about Hibernate or Sleep. Personally I would disable Hibernate.

Does the computer shut down if you use the following command in Run?

shutdown /s /t 0

Hi all,

Hoping someone can help with this as I'm in Australia (usually UK) and my work laptop has decided to stop working!

It is a Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720, about 3 years old.

When I press the power on button only the HDD button lights up and nothing happens. The light stays on and the only way it goes off is if I take the battery out.

The same thing happens regardless of whether I am trying to power on using just the Battery, AC charger or both together.

I've searched online and found various articles giving instructions on removing the battery and AC charger then holding the power button to drain any residual power, I've tried this many times but it hasn't worked.

I can't find anything explaining why only the HDD light is coming on. Clearly there is power going in so it must be another issue.

Hoping someone can shed some light on this as I'm screwed if I can't get it working!

I have recently bought this laptop and have had it since the 21st of Dec 2016, and this morning I was watching a YouTube Video and all of a sudden my screen turned black, and at the top there was a sort of static on the screen, scared I quickly turned the laptop off (used to this as my old laptop that was really old kept doing these kinds of things and I was used to turning on and off to resolve things) But as I turned it on the lights on the keyboard turned on and the on switch did too, but the screen itself hadn't. After leaving it 10, 15, 20, 30 minutes it still hasn't done anything, and the ventilation hasn't turned on either, So honestly I have no idea what to do I've consulted to the internet, and Dell Support but everything leads me to using my laptop and updating stuff on my laptop which I cannot do. So I've resulted to just leaving my laptop on to wait for it to run out of battery to plug it on to see if anything works, but if not I'm surprised because it's a brand new laptop and has no reason to be broken. Please help I'm really worried....

Hey Guys,
My mother's Dell Inspiron 530s won't turn on, boot, nothing.
We came home and it was "turned off" the power button was yellow.
I tried to turn it on buy the power button, but nothing. I pulled the power chord and after a few seconds it did turn off. I plugged it back in and the light went immediately back to yellow. Not black as it should have.
I unplugged it and pulled it out and opened it up. Removed the CMOS battery, tested it....it's at 3v like it should be, let it sit for a minute and put it back in, turned it on and nothing. I think that it might be the PSU. What's my next step in troubleshooting it?
Help please.

a few things about my inspiron 8600; the power cord had previously been cut and re joined and since then never worked on battery alone. but still always worked on power adapter. is this something to do with the power adapter or a bigger problem? wen i press the power button it lights up for 1-2 seconds then goes dead. the screen flashes for a second then nothing. do i need a new power cord?
thanks in advance for any advice anyone can give...

When I press the power button, absolutely nothing happens. No lights, no sounds, no display. The adaptor lights up, but once I plug it into the laptop, it goes out. I've tried removing and re-inserting the battery, which should be charged up, but nothing happens. Does anyone know if this could be a hardware or power supply problem or something else? My warranty has expired, but I'd rather not have to take it to a repair shop. Any help would be very much appreciated!

I am a bit of a tech head, and urged my wife to wait until the "good" touch screen haswell laptops came out.  I even wrote some glowing reviews of Dell's inspiron 15 7537 after I received it ([View:www.amazon.com/.../ref=cm_cr_pr_viewpnt])

Unfortunately, just a few weeks out of warranty, the trusty laptop has stopped powering up.
The symptoms: laptop will not power up.  Things I have tried:

Making sure the power cable was plugged in (LED is on the power ring on the plug itself)
Making sure the PC recognizes the power cable and the power adapter isn't loose (power ring brightens when plugged in)
Trying different outlets, including several direct to wall outlets
Removing battery and trying to power up with just power cable
Removing battery and AC adapter, holding power for 3+ minutes to "clear static charge" as recommended by some self-help websites
Doing above and then plugging power cable in
One ram chip at a time
No ram

Unfortunately nothing works.  Fans don't turn on, lights don't turn on, display doesn't turn on, no noises or beeps.  Other than the power ring on the plug getting brighter when I plug it in, there is no indication that the device is receiving any power.
I'm pretty bummed and hope there is a solution and/or that Dell can help make things right.  The build quality of the device is so high and my wife has been very satisfied and I hope that she can get more than a year of... Read more

I have had the same problem.  This computer has been horrible for this.  I have replaced the motherboard and sent it out to depot for repair.  It still does this.  I have to remove the back cover and pull the battery then put the battery back in and then it will work for a while then I will have to do it again.  I have been very disappointed with this laptop.  We use Dells at work and I have never had this problem until this computer.  I have been disappointed in Dell helping me with the issue.  They tell me that nothing is wrong with the computer but It has been a pain with this issue.

Hi

I have a Dell Ispiron 1100

It won't turn on

I press the power button and if there is no AC power attached
the lights light up while I press the button, but no start up

When the AC power is attached, I don't get any lights at all

It's been happening for a while

I used to flip it over and pull out the battery, then replace it
and try again, after a few times it worked

Then I realised that just by opening the screen and trying it, then closing
the screen, then opennng and trying again... after a few times it would start

(are there any wires that would be affected by that??)

Once it started, so long as I left it plugged in, and the screen open it would always restart first go

I also think, that when it was unplugged, closed, etc so long as I started it agin fairly soon, it worked

I've just been overseas for a week in a colder climate and now I can't seem to get it started at all

I've tried with battery in, with battery out, AC in AC out

Any help would be much appreciated

Dell Inspiron won't turn on

We have a professor at our university that turned in a Dell laptop with exactly the same symptoms!

Really, with the battery alone installed, the lights flash momentarily when the power button is pressed. If the charger is connected (or the charger alone): no lights
(Just like Christoff)

The machine won't start up and there was some story about how it died last time the lid was closed. We are suspicious of a faulty lid interlock that is keeping the laptop in hibernate (or some deep, permanent sleep).

Another theory - Does anyone know if these have an internal power fuse, such that the external power brick isn't actually getting DC into the main board or charging the installed battery? We can't find any info about the power distribution or a schematic.

My N5010 Will not power on with or without the battery installed. The power button blinks white every four seconds.  The AC adapter is working fine.  I have removed the battery, unplugged the AC adapter, and held down the power on switch for 30 seconds without success. I have removed and reinstalled components such as HDD, memory, etc. without success. I have installed a new DC Jack Board WXHDY and it still will not power on.

I accidentally ripped off a piece of material that connects a wire thing from my laptop's on button to another connector, now my computer does not turn on at all. The thing that connects to the unbotton on my laptop could have been easily clipped back in to ths connector, but my problem is that the connector itself accidentally came off. Not sure what it's called but it's about the size of the nail on your pinky, and if you lift it up, you can easily attach the wire thing to it.

Here's a picture of the what the problem looks like.
http://i.imgur.com/IWKew.jpg
From this picture, you can see that the wide wire thing connects to a small piece on the computer. The other end of that wire should connect to a similar piece found on the power button (this is the piece that came off).

http://i.imgur.com/N2dT3.jpg
The piece that came off was connected on the green item with two screws.
My laptop is pretty much broken, the hinges are dislocated and there's a disc problem along with other issues. I just wanted to turn it on somehow, so I could erase all the data in it before selling it for parts. If anyone knows a way to repair it or turn my laptop on some other way, please let me know. Thank you.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1764

Answer:Any other way to turn on my Dell Inspiron 1764?

Hi glamx,

By the looks of the picture, you would not be able to power on the compuer till the time this button is fixed. Further, as you are just looking to wipe off the data before you sell off the parts, you can actually take the hard drive out of the computer and use an external casing to wipe it clean by connecting it to another computer.

That would atleast solve the purpose of cleaning your computer.

But when i connect the power cable to the laptop without the battery , the led on the laptop it's not turning on. I don't know if the led needs to be on.
If i need to provide more details let me know and sorry for my English.

I have a Dell Inspiron 530 desktop PC that's 7.5 years old. It was working fine until today, when it wouldn't turn on at all. I kept pressing the power button and nothing happened at all - the computer just wouldn't turn on.

I tried a different power cord and that didn't work. I opened up the computer and I could see an orange light on the motherboard was lit, and a green light on the back of the power supply was lit too, so the computer is getting power.

I took off the front of the case and tried pressing on the power switch directly, and that didn't work. I tried pressing on where the power switch wire connects to the motherboard to make sure it was connected and that didn't help.

Any idea on what's wrong?

Answer:Dell Inspiron 530 desktop PC won't turn on at all

Most likely a failed pw supply however it can also be a failed pw switch/wiring or a failed mb. To test the pw supply, swap in a known good unit. Note known good does not mean new; it means a unit from a test system or a working system that you know works. A new pw supply can be DOA just like any other part and that will really mess up your troubleshooting.

To test the switch/wiring, pull the pw switch leads from the mb. Jump across the mb pins with a small screwdriver or other metal object. If the board starts, you know either the switch or wiring has failed.

Computer won't turn on. When I hit power button, it quickly blinks amber and makes a split second sound like something is turning inside, then nothing. If I hold the power button down, it will blink amber about every second and make the quick sound, but nothing turns on. Green light on back, below power cord, solid green. Everything is unplugged from the machine. Recently, from time to time, computer has been making constant noise, like fan running loud our perhaps hard drive??

Answer:dell inspiron n5110 won't turn on

Remove the battery -- if the system will power up on AC only, the battery has failed and will need to be replaced.
If the system won't power up on AC only, disconnect the adapter and remove the battery.  Hold the power button for 30 sec.  Remove and reinstall the memory modules.  Then try powering up again.  If the system still won't power on, the mainboard is bad -- on a system of this age, given the cost to replace the mainboard -- you're better off shopping for a replacement system.

Don't know why this is happening. Six yr. old system running smoothly until about a week ago. I have diligently backed all files up using Macrium software - thought I was covered for data loss and voila! now the system won't turn on! Obviously I now cannot get to my data. The power brick does have a light on it so I have been told due to this fact, it is probably the motherboard that is dead. I ordered a new power supply which is due to arrive today -- ordered before I knew about the light indicating power supply ok. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks very much.

Answer:Dell laptop inspiron n5110 is not turned off after shutdown

***SOLUTION***This is a hardware problem, not a software problem. I am running the factory Win 7 home x64 and dual booting Ubuntu 12.04 x64, with this exact problem in both OS's.What I did is I took out the keyboard and the palm rest (there should be a tear down guide put out by Dell) and you should see a coin cell battery. I took it out for about 10 seconds and then put it back in. I also checked all the other connections and removed and reseated the HDD. I then went into BIOS and made sure there weren't any funky settings. It now shuts down, suspends, and wakes properly (only tested in Ubuntu 12.04)I have no clue how or why, but that's what did it.
