Where's the Type-C adapter for the Surface?

Question: Where's the Type-C adapter for the Surface?

Microsoft said we'd be getting a Type-C adapter when the Surface Laptop was announced, so where in the world is it? Any ETA?

Preferred Solution: Where's the Type-C adapter for the Surface?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

In the week or two I have updated to Windows 10 from 8.1. The surface Pro 3 has been automatically doing updates. 2 days ago the type cover stopped working and disappeared from devices. Today the wifi does not work and says "The Marvell AVISTAR Wire4less-AC Network Controller is not fixed. Experiencing driver or hardware related problems." Also in device manager "The network adapter is experiencing problems. Failed". The Bluetooth has also disappeared. Can you offer some advice on how to resolve this please. Also when I can get wifi and can restore my devices, should I go back to windows 8.1? Thanks.

Maria go to device manager and disable the wifi and bluetooth adaptors and then enable them and see if that helps
Check this article for more info: https://www.microsoft.com/surface/en-us/support/networking-and-connectivity/cant-connect-to-a-wireless-network?os=windows-10
You can go back to windows 8.1 only if you do it before a month is over since you upgraded

Hi, guys. I just bought a Surface 3, but as I live outside the States, I bought it without the Type Cover and I only can buy the Type Cover 2. So, despite the look and that the Surface will be larger than the Cover, which I can perfectly live with, will it work?

Answer:Can Surface's Type Cover 2 work on Surface 3?

Yes, it'll work, just won't fit the screen completely when folded.

Is The New Surface Pro Compatible With The Surface Pro 4 Type Cover ?
I already own one and if I'm going to be paying more due to the new surface pen not coming in with the device , I would like to save on the type cover. And it doesn't seem like the new type cover is that different than the old one except the alcantara suede.

Answer:Surface Pro and Pro 4 Type Cover

I read in a Windows Central article that SP4 type covers are indeed compatible with the new Surface Pro.

Which one is it, the backlit Touch Cover 2? or the original one?
I would poke my head into eBay, Amazon and other relevant sites to see what they go for.

I really don't get it. When the new Surface Pro was announced I couldn't think of anything bad about it, but soon all around the internet I heard the voices saying that it's a bummer MS didn't include a USB Type-C on it. So what??? It doesn't have a USB Type-C! MS did introduce an adaptor for that! You can use that! Plus I personally don't have any device that has USB Type-C on it, and I don't know any of my friends having a USB Type-C device!
So back to the question, why is USB Type-C an important thing to be on a device like Surface?
Thanks for reading :)

Answer:Why is USB Type-C so important for it to be on a Surface device????

It's just the new version of USB, many new devices are using it to charge, it allows faster data speeds, can be plugged in either direction and takes up less space allowing thinner devices.
Personally don't have anything USB C yet, don't care that much about it either, but it is the way of the future. Than again looking at computers and motherboards recently I noticed USB 2.0 is still in use, so USB 3.1 type A isn't going away anytime soon.

Surface 1 Pro Type Keyboard Problems:
No letters between i and m, so no J, K or L.
zxzx is typed when I press either button x or z.
B and w auto tabs sometimes b w .
Usable characters left to right @#$ &*()[{]}\| ,< missing`~!%^&-_=+;:.>/?
1 when it works automatically adds the forward slash /, it also takes a couple presses. 1/
Direction buttons don't work properly left adds \ and down turns on/off Caps lock.
So weird!
I have cleaned the contacts and the keyboard, everything is in good condition.
I dont know what to do, please help!
Thank you!
Obviously I cleaned this text up with the built in keyboard, and the trackpad works normally for the most part. That being said I like my keyboard and don't want to pay for a new one or a bluetooth one.

Answer:Surface Pro Gen 1 Type Cover Problems! Can I get some help?

Do you have a friend nearby with another Surface 1 Pro type cover? That way, you could check if it is hardware related (keyboard or contacts) or software / firmware related (in which case you could solve the problem with a factory reset). In case nobody in your area has one, try stopping by at a Microsoft store. With a little bit luck, they still may have one laying around for a test.
If it is the former, you'll have no choice but buy a new keyboard. :(

Answer:Surface Pro 3 Type Cover Issue on Windows 10

If it works in other apps, then that sounds like a problem with Edge as opposed to the type cover.

I've tried attaching and reattaching the type cover but no difference
I've tried a few restarts bu nothing
I've tried reinstalling the drivers but still the same
I don't believe the physical keys have an issue - since I'm able to get the function key working
Other keys work such as the disable audio, type cover backlit lights etc
Any ideas?

Answer:Surface Pro 4 Type Cover not working after Anniversary Update

I ran into that too with Win 10 Anniversary update. It totally disabled my Type Cover. According to Microsoft and some folks on the web, the force reboot works.

I took the dive and did a hard reboot of my Surface Pro 4 (Microsoft warns that do this only with Surface Pro 4) This is verbatim from Microsoft:

Use this two-button shutdown process to make sure your Surface is turned off completely.
Step 1:
Press and hold the power button on your Surface for 30 seconds and then release it.

Step 2:
Press and hold the volume-up button and the power button at the same time for at least 15 seconds, and then release both.
The screen may flash the Surface logo, but continue holding the buttons down for at least 15 seconds. (this is the scary part. Note that I saw the BIOS screen came on within 3 - 4 seconds... but you need to continue to hold like Microsoft said. The screen went off for me then on again with the BIOS screen then off.. that's when I released the buttons)

Step 3:
After you release the buttons, wait 10 seconds.
Press and release the power button to turn your Surface back on.
And that did it for me. You would think Microsoft would test their Win 10 Anniversary update on their own Surface Pro devices... oh well.

Hi all. I have a Microsoft Surface 3, with Windows 10. Sometimes I use the Surface 3 with the Microsoft Surface 3 Type Cover (the cover that can be connected to the Surface 3 with the magnets and the "six pins").
With a specific program I have observed a very strange behavior: when the Surface 3 Type Cover is connected to the tablet (also if completely "flipped back" and therefore disabled, but still magnetically and electrically connected) the program run and execute as normal. Instead, if I try to run the program on the Surface WITHOUT the keyboard connected, the program fails its execution. Also using an external USB keyboard does not solve this strange behavior. The program run correctly if and only if the Surface 3 is connected to the Surface 3 Type Cover.
More information: the program is an utility to control via USB the optical zoom of an USB camera, in particular the e-con System See3CAM_30Z10X camera. To control the camera optical zoom the program make use of a specific DLL (provided by e-con System), that is the file "eCAMFwSw.dll". I don't know why there is this strange behavior... but it is a fact that when the program use the APIs of this dll on my Surface 3 WITHOUT the Type Cover, the APIs of the DLL fails to response (I obtain error codes, and the zoom does not work...). On any other "classic" Windows PC or laptop (or also on my Surface 3 but WITH the Surface 3 Type Cover connected...) the DLL works well...
There are any other cases in which the presence or not... Read more

I found a major bug at using my Surface 2 in combination with my Touch Cover 2:
When having 2 apps in split screen (only in landscape), Windows switches to the same view, after locking and unlocking the device in landscape mode. By unlocking the device in portrait mode, Windows only shows the app that had the focus last and puts it in portrait.
This behavior is disturbed, when using a touch cover:
If you have 2 apps in split screen and lock the Surface by shutting the cover, Windows will return locked in landscape, if you unlock by opening the cover again! Surface will not be able to maintain portrait mode at all, not only in the app, only a restart will detach that lock.
Thats what I experienced with my Surface 2 and Touch Cover 2. I would be interested if other combinations have the same weird bug, especially, whether its only on RT, or on x86 too. Interestingly, the lockscreen still switches between landscape and portrait mode.
So:
- snap on your cover
- open two apps in split screen
- lock by shutting the cover
- unlock in portrait, try to keep it in portrait
- see what happens and share your experiences
Thanks!

Answer:[BUG]To all Surface Users (Pro, Pro 2, RT, S. 2) with Touch/Type Covers: please review and comment!

I have an RT with touch cover. I have the cover on, open two apps in split screen in landscape, close the cover, unlock, still have two apps in split screen in landscape.

I have a Surface Pro 4 with the Surface Dock hooked to an external monitor (via DisplayPort) and a keyboard & mouse.

When I close the type cover on the Surface, it automatically activates Tablet Mode. Now, I know I can change the behavior to make Windows 10 ask me what to before switching modes, but until I switched to using a dock and external monitor, I've never needed/wanted Windows 10 to ask me! It always "did the right thing" with the Surface, correctly responding to the type cover be attached, detached, or folded back.

How can I tell Windows 10 or the Surface to NOT activate tablet mode when the type cover is closed?
Thanks,
Jim

Answer:Surface Pro 4: closing type cover activates tablet mode

Hi Jim....open Settings, type Tablet in find a setting box.....click on "tablet mode settings"....see attachment.
If that doesn't work change top box to "use desktop mode" when you sign in.

Love win 10 on my sp2 so decided to install on sp3 as soon as it went gdr. After upgrade completed, with no errors, I have no Wi-Fi adapter. I can see the marvel adapter in device manager and it says it's working normally but there are no network adapters showing under network adapters and obviously no way to connect to my network. Tried disabling, reinstalling, turning off bitlocker and turning off enforced digital certs. Nothing.
Anyone able to upgrade their sp3 successfully? Trying to stay away from clean install but I'll go that route if I have to.
Oh btw, I'm in the hospital recovering from double fusion surgery on my back, that's why I'm up at this hour.

After installing the MS Firmware Update that popped up out of nowhere yesterday, with little or no documentation, I couldn't help but notice that my Marvell AVASTAR Wireless AC adapter quit working. My driver update utilities didn't notice anything amiss but by using a manual driver load (Update Driver Software, Browse my computer for driver software, Let me pick from a list..., then trying the drivers that showed up in that list in their order of appearance), I was eventually able to load a driver that worked -- for me it was the third one in the list that did the trick. Should anyone else find themselves in this situation, I can claim that this approach has worked at least once to restore the wireless interface to working condition.

HI!
Surface Book user here.
I REALLY want to improve my posture & my life at my keyboard, and one major way to do that is to have my screen higher, while keyboard stays same.
This is why wireless keyboards exist. But it seems CRAZY to buy ANOTHER wireless keyboard, when I already have a detachable keyboard! Part of the benefits of being a surface user, no?
I've done some research for a wireless keyboard adapter and I've gotten mixed info.
There is a product page for a wireless keyboard adapter on Microsoft.com that says that it IS compatible with Surface Book: Microsoft Surface Wireless Adapter for Typing Covers | Bluetooth keyboard adapter
But other reports (amazon reviews) say this product is NOT compatible with Surface Book
Can any brilliant person tell me if there is a wireless keyboard adapter for Surface Book, which will let me use my SB with the keyboard I already have while the screen is detached?
And if any MS product person is reading this, PLEASE make this a thing!
Thank you in advance!

This is a common problem (I see lots of posts)
The problem source is the [Dell] AC adapter. PA-21 Family, 65W, P/N: NX061. It is made in China.
I have an XPS M1330. Using Dell after warranty service, replaced the Mother Board twice, replaced the battery twice, replaced the AC adapter twice - not fixing it.
Turns out the power warning message is very informative. It states "Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or greater for best system performance". So, I plugged in my Dell 95W adapter - WOW Problem Solved.
A lab test of my new Dell 65W AC adapter shows it to be 64.6 watts. If this unit gets hot (like after several hours of use), it may not put out the full 65 watts - the system may not recognize the adapter, it may power the system ok, but won't charge the battery.
These units burn out after only a few months of use. Their cables are too fragile. If Dell's or their supplier's Quality Control can't produce a reliable 65W product - I found seveal "Made In USA" universal adapters.

Answer:AC Adapter - Alert - "AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined"

Well my solution was simple.
I just removed the battery pack and powered up my notebook. Then I turned off the notebook replaced the battery pack and VOILA. The error message was gone.

The Microsoft Display Adapter generally works great with my original Surface Pro running windows 8.1 with my (modern) Samsung TV, but recently it has been dropping the connection randomly on a regular daily basis.
I've updated the app, I'm only about 5 feet from the adapter / TV I'm connecting to. I'm working on the computer 5 - 6 hours daily. 4 or 5 times a day is drops the connection. I've cleaned up my system using Spy-bot, Hitman Pro, and Maleware bites. I've had this system setup for over a year now but this just started happening 2 weeks ago.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

I am planning on making this project myself but first I have one question. Here is the project I will be making:
http://siliconrepublic.blogspot.com.au/2011/02/arduino-based-pc-ambient-lighting.html

It says I need a 12V DC supply for powering the breadboard. When searching up for 12V DC supplies, I only get power supply's that plug into the wrong wall socket (I live in Australia).
Do I need to get something like the article suggests:
http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-AC-Veh...1KZ6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1297231222&sr=8-2

Or can I get something such as this:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DC-12V-1...?pt=AU_Laptop_Accessories&hash=item336678ae52
If the first option is the only possibility, how do I get the plug to go into my wall socket?
Also, how do I get the other end plugged into the breadboard when the product just has a single plug on the end?

Answer:What type of power adapter do I need?

You can use the Ebay adaptor, the easiest way to get 2 wires is to get a socket that fits the plug, like this one :- http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/5-5-x-2-...05?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item4167b5b34d and solder 2 wires to that socket.

The circuit at your link uses a 2 wire plug into the breadboard, you would have to get a similar plug OR you could push bare wires into the breadboard.

OR you could cut the plug off to reveal the 2 wires but they will probably be quite thin and may not connect well if pushed into the breadboard holes.

I tried plugging it in again several times to no avail. Then my virus program (Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 14) popped up a window to start in Safe Mode to fix the problem. I know how to start in Safe Mode but don't know what to do once I'm in there. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi everybody... my step daughter is having a problem with her dell precision m6300 laptop. Whenever she turns on her laptop, she gets the above message. The laptop will not go past this screen without the current plugged in. I also cannot access the bios menu or any setup menu or the desktop. It's just stuck on this one screen. I'm thinking it could just need a new charger but I'm not sure, any help would be appreciated.

So.. I see this problem has been posted about before, so I just wanna know what my options are.
This problem actually popped up on me a few months ago, but I was able to remove and insert the power cord a few times and the message would go away and I would be able to charge my battery. But as a month or two passed, it became more finicky, and I had to jiggle with it a little more, but still, I was able to charge my battery and use my laptop wire-free.
Now today, I've been trying all day, and cannot for the life of me get the battery to charge. I get the following message when I plug the wire in.
"The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or higher for best system operation."
Also, I think its worth nothing that a lot of people mention that this error message comes up while they are booting their Laptops, mine only comes up once Vista is loaded and I attempt to reinsert the cord.
So, I have tried another Dell charger, a 90W one, and the same problem does occur (My original is a 65W). I am planning on getting a different battery tomorrow to see if it is the battery, as this ones usable life was getting quite low, down to barely a half hour per full charge. My warranty, although I'm not sure of the specifics, was not expired when this problem first came up, but is now expired by I would say 2 months at the most.

At a minimum, the power jack on the mainboard needs to be replaced - if that doesn't fix it or a competent repair shop tells you it won't, you'll need to replace the system board.

Hi!

Awhile ago, I started getting this error message when I started up my computer (after the initial Dell screen). It stated:

The AC adapter type cannot be determined. This will prevent optimal system performance.

Strike the F3 key (before the F1 or F2 key) if you do not want to see power warning messages again.

Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the set up utility.

-----

I ignored this problem for awhile by just hitting F1. However, within the last month, it has gotten worse. Instead of this error message coming up when I started my computer - after the initial Dell screen, nothing would come up except a little flashing line in the top left hand corner of the screen, and the computer would not start up passed that. I proceeded to fiddle with the plug that I plug into my laptop from adapter. I would push it harder into the laptop and/or twist it in after I hit the start up button, waiting to see if, after the initial Dell screen, I could get the error message to come up again so I could hit F1 so my computer would actually start up. I really don't know if any of that helped, but I figure if it was the adapter, then I should try something like that. I even blew it the plug and into the socket in the laptop tonight. However, tonight, I almost could not get the computer to start up all the way - I kept getting the screen with the little blinking line after the initial Dell screen and no error message. Eventually, after trying several times, I did get the error ... Read more

Hi there forum,

I just bagged an Lcd monitor for nowt but have no power supply for it.
The rear panel says 12V 3.0A DC power supply, but I can't find any of this type, I've tried Maplin, play.com etc and all they suggest is 300mA, now I thought 3.0 A was 3000mA?

Do I need to go back to electronic school basics?

Dell Inspiron 5755 with a 17" display, running windows 10 and the latest BIOS version from Dell(as of 3/2/2017). AC adapter power supply is a 45W, 19.5V, 2.31A, Dell power supply. It works fine and is not damaged, (lite is lit on the brick and proper voltage out verified by using a VOM). When running on battery for a while and the battery low window pops up, I plug in the power supply and immediately get a message "The AC adapter power type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and battery will not charge". I ordered and tried another Dell 45W power supply. Same issue. I right clicked the battery icon in the system tray to display the Dell Power Manager. It says my battery is fine, 100% normal. As I unplug and plug in the power supply while the Dell Power Manager is up, I can see the word "charging" displayed in the management window for a bit, but then it disappears. The battery Icon itself shows that the power supply is plugged in as it displays a male electrical plug. If I remove the battery the laptop powers up fine. The BIOS in this machine does not display the charging device information, just that the battery is 100% normal. While in BIOS I hit the F9 key to reset basic bios functions to no avail. I also tried uninstalling the AC adapter and ACPI- compliant control method battery and re-booting to no avail. Since you've tried a new Dell adapter to no effect, next suspect is the DC jack -- replace this part:

I am getting this error message. My battery is not charging. And it is clocking my cpu speed to 0.5 GHz. I heard that there is a pin in the DC jack that tells a chip on the computer to tell the computer that the AC adapter is not suitable (whether damage or low wattage). I'm wondering if there is a way to disable the chip and just use it at full speed, I don't really need a battery because I'm mainly on AC use anyways.

Answer:The wattage and type of the AC adapter cannot be determined

Mine will do that if the plug is not all the way in. It has happened to me twice now and I would have thought it would take more than 1/16th of an inch to cause the situation.
Sorry I don't know of a way to bypass this check.

I have a Yoga Pro 3 I purchased here in the US a couple of months ago. This summer I'll be moving to Moldova (eastern Europe) with the Peace Corps and plan to take my Yoga with me. Moldova has 220-240V Type C power outlets. Ideally, I'd like to purchase a power adapter for my Yoga that is already configured with a Type C plug. The US Lenovo customer service staff can't seem to tell me if I can buy one. I know Germany also uses Type C but I don't see the option to buy the 40W power adapter on their site. The below adapter is available on the UK site but I'm not sure UK adapters are compatible with Type C outlets:http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/gbweb/LenovoPortal/en_GB/catalog.workflow:item.detai... Does anyone out there who travels to Europe or owns a Yoga Pro 3 in Europe have any tips on buying a native adapter? If I need to use a convertor I will... Hello! I've been around here for a sometimes but never registered as a users because I find all the solution I needed, but I have one follow problems that I can't solve and I need sevenforum's help!

I recently bought Sapphire Radeon HD 6770 and comparing game performance with my old graphic card Nvidia 9800 GT, I don't see much of a difference. According to my friend who builds computer, he said it's suppose to be superior differences between those 2 graphic cards. I also tried to sign up for BETA profile for Blizzard game series and apparently it kept detecting the Radeon HD 4200, which is my integrated card. Anyways, my question is, how can I change my Adapter Type? I posted a picture of it so you guys can see what's my problem is. I have the latest Catalyst Control Panel from the sites sticky thread .

I don't know how to check my computer stuff, so here's my computer on website: HP - Pavilion Desktop / AMD Athlon™ II Processor / 4GB Memory / 750GB Hard Drive - p6654y

My english is my second language so if you can't understand what I said I'll be glad to explain again lol. Rough draft xD.

I've already tried Driver Sweeper, failed on me .

I don't know what BIOS means either lol.

If my integrated graphic card is disabled for good, I think I might get to see my 6770's full performance. Also tried overclocking, didn't helped at all :[. I still think it's my integrated card's problem, but hey I could be wrong. I'm terrible at computers .

Thanks.

Answer:Changing a video card adapter type help.

Assuming HP didn't hide the option in the bios (and I wouldn't put it past them), have a good look around likely in the Advanced section under Chipset. If it is don't disable it quite yet, first boot back to Windows and uninstall the AMD driver through Programs and Features using the Catalyst Install Manager. Then restart and go into the bios and disable, and re-install the AMD driver using the latest,

Latest AMD Catalyst Video Driver for Windows 7

unless that is the one you already have.

P.S. What you're seeing shouldn't happen, but with the way HP likes to hide/disable/monkey around in general with bios settings I'm not really surprised that it did. When it works properly (the AMD onboard video with an AMD video card) you can actually use both at the same time for running up to 4 (or 5 depending on video card) monitors at a time.

My Dell Inspiron 6400 HDD damaged without any warning last week and cannot be repaired, so i had to replace it with another HDD. Everything works fine after that except that when i plugged in my AC adapter, the power warning message “The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or higher for best system operation" will appear, and my battery will not charge.

Previously this power warning message will occur only when i didn't plug in properly and it worked fine after i replug the adapter. Since i changed my HDD, this warning message appears everytime i turn on my laptop. I tried updating the BIOS but it doesn't help, the problem is still there. I suspect that my AC adapter is damaged but when i tried it with another Inspiron 6400, it worked fine without the warning message appearing, that shows that there isn't any problem with my AC adapter..

Any solutions for this? I hope i don't have to change the motherboard or whatsoever, because my laptop is out of warranty. Is it something to do with the configuration? - since i formatted my computer and reinstalled everything..

thanks heaps for any comments!

Answer:Power adapter type cannot be determined after replacing new HDD

You may have a damaged DC jack in the laptop if the adapter works on another laptop, which would go with you replugging the power adapter to clear the error in the past. Its not uncommon for the jacks to break from the motherboard and require re-soldering, in some cases the jacks crack or break and need to replaced. To get at the jack you will need to have the laptop completely disassembled.

P.S. 'spoiled' isn't not the correct term to use with failed electronics.

Ok, I have read through these forums, and others, and have been unable to resolve this issue after trying like a million things. Here's my issue:
This is on a Dell Inspiron N4030 running Windows 8 Pro with Bios Revision A07.
On boot-up I get this message:
"The AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined.
The battery may not charge.
The system will adjust the performance to match the power available.
Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or greater for the best system performance.
Strike the F3 key (before F1 or F2 key) if you do not want to see this power warning message again.
Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility."

If I strike F2 and go into the bios it says "AC adapter type unknown"
If I strike F1 to continue boot-up it boots into windows and then the battery indicator shows "Plugged in, Not charging"

In attempting to fix this issue I have:

1. Replaced the battery.
2. Replaced the motherboard
3. Replaced the Power Board
4. Swapped out the adapter with several other Dell adapters we have in the house (we have 6 Dell laptops). Adapter revisions used are A00, A01, and A02.
5. Did the whole rigamarole here: http://jeffreypalermo.com/blog/plugged-in-not-charging-windows-7-solution/
6. Tried various combinations of plugging/unplugging at different intervals and at different speeds that I have read on multiple sites.

The end of the M$ note says "The hardware and software on the system, the device or adapter, or cable does not support the DisplayPort /DockPort or MHL alternate modes." Now since a regular USB port works (2.0 even) for DisplayPort that leaves MHL. Maybe you need one of these.

Hello, from few days a have problem with my AC power adapter. My system says: "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined... lalalala" when my Windows says Plugged in, not charging. CPU performance does not exceed 0,78GHz.I tried to uninstall the drivers - nothing.
I tried update my BIOS - nothing.
Replace AC - nothing
Exclude malfunctioning AC adapter.
Sometimes after a few connections begins to charge my battery, and it is a day where you do not try to charge.
But I found a solution, which is always charge my battery.
when i turn off the system, and then pulled out the battery. I push the button 'power on' for 10 seconds. And then I put back the battery and plug the charger. I turn on the system and everything works.
But once again, disconnect and plug the charger that stops charging

Where is the problem?

Hi WLODZIAK,
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system?
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point. Check the battery health in BIOS (if applicable).
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us.These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.
Since you have replaced the adapter, if the battery has good health, then then next part to be replaced would be the dc port - you would need this part - http://bit.ly/2d2vuCc
If nothing works, the motherboard might be at fault.
If the system is under warranty, Please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name, Phone#, Address and Email). If there is no warranty, then you could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ

Hi,
I'm using an XPS 13 9350, and 'm currently having an issue whereby when I start up my laptop I'm receiving the error message.
"AC power adapter and type cannot be determined, the battery may mot charge, the system will adjust the performance to match the power available"
The laptop sticks at 1% and wont charge. Although the light is still on the adapter, the light does not appear at the front of the laptop where it would usually indicate charging, apart from occasionally brief moments before the laptop boots following pressing the on button.
I have forced the latest BIOS update past the 10% battery block, however this has not helped.
I've had the laptop and adapter roughly a year.
Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Answer:Dell XPS 13 9350 - AC power adapter and type could not be determined

If "roughly" is less than a year, call Dell for warranty repair.
If it's over a year, first thing to try is a new OEM Dell AC adapter -- most computer shops should have one you can try. If that fixes it, replace the AC adapter. If not, replace the DC power jack:
www.newegg.com/.../Product.aspx
And if that doesn't solve it, it's the charge circuit itself that's bad -- replace the mainboard.

My Dell XPS 13 has recently been unable to recognize my AC adapter. I've tried several outlets and chargers, but to no avail. Once I plug the charger into the laptop, the charging light on my Dell lights up for a second but turns off immediately after.
I am unable to get past the Dell SupportAssist and it seems to be an endless loop that won't allow me into my desktop.
Would I be able to bypass the "AC Adapter Unknown" error by using Google's Pixel 2 charger? It would allow me to charge through Dell's USB-C port instead. Has anyone tried this method or has solved the issue in any other way?
Thanks for any help at all!

The Spectre x2 12 detachable is capable of charging through the two Type-C USB ports. The HP Type-C USB adapter charges using these two ports. However, no third party Type-C USB chargers (even with Power Delivery specifications) will charge this device. Meaning, there is no benefit to charging via Type-C since this device can only use the HP adapter charger. Another HP device that charges via Type-C USB, the Spectre 13.3 (HP Spectre 13-v151nr), received a BIOS update (F.26 Rev.A; sp77130.exe) in August that allows charging through third party Type C-USB chargers like Google and Apple chargers (see below in yellow;"- Expands support for the USB Type-C adaptor."). I am requesting a similar Type-C charging adapter BIOS update for the HP Spectre x2 - 12-a008nr, to remove the limitation described above. Not allowing to be charged through Type C chargers manufactured by Google and Apple is absurd. If you would please, use the Power Delivery specifications that these reputable vendors use, and that you also used for the 13.3, and allow this device to truly be fantastic. I tried to flash BIOS, took out and put back in the battery. Check the plug, it looks ok. Battery's LED lights show it works fine.
I saw that so many people have this problem, but did not find any ways to solve it. Or any reasons why it happened. If anybody knows what to do, please share with us regular PC users.

Hi, It's been a couple of weeks since I bought my Thinkpad E570 (Product SKU 20H5CTO1WW). Since I live in Greece and the laptop is on its way to me (I had it delivered to a friend of mine in UK), I'd like to know what kind of ac adapter the laptop is equipped with. If it's universal (110/220V) then I suppose an adaptor from type G to type F plug would suffice, otherwise I will probably need a new ac adapter. So, can anyone help me with my question? I forgot to ask my friend about it, I just realized about the different power plugs today. Regards,Vas

Welcome to the forum.

> If it's universal (110/220V) then I suppose an adaptor from type G to type F plug would suffice

ThinkPad AC chargers are designed to work with input voltages from 110VAC to 240VAC so the charger that's shipped with your E570 will be just fine. If your new E570 was bought in the UK then yes, you'll need a G to F adapter to fit local power outlets.

Normally when you insert a pccard into the slot you should feel a slight resistance at the end. After that the ejection pin pops out. also a card should fit in there completely. Now if i test a working pccard (32 bits gold connector) in this r500, it can not fit it in there completely. Also there is no resistance or connection. It will slide in loosely and does not connect. The last centimeter of the card will not fit in the adapter. No new device is found. I tested this in linux as well in windows7. I conclude the physical connection between the card and the adapter is not there. So perhaps this is a hardware flaw ? Or perhaps i am missing something obvious.if i look closely into the slot, i can see there is a metal pin at the left side deep inside the slot, wich blocks access to the connection pins. It prevents my cards from beeing inserted completely. * I wonder if anyone has found this same problem.* also has anyone found a normal userguide for his laptop ? (r500 2714) i can only find the Hardware maintenance and safetey manuals. Thanks for your responses.

Answer:r500 2714 pcmcia/cardbus type i/ii adapter does not work.

Aha, the metal pin blocking access is released when the grey releasebutton is in the 'ejected' state. Now i can fit the pccard type in there. (32 bit pcmcia) These have a gold plated connector on the card and has the word pccard on it.the old style 16 bit cards dont seem to fit. Maybe this info will help other users. Still i would like to see a r500 usermanual in wich i cold have read this * Does anyone know where to find the usermanual ? regards

Sometimes the message says connect a Dell 45w adapter or higher. That is what I use. It's the original adapter. I've also received a message to use a 35w adapter. Sometimes it tells me to press F1 if I want to continue anyway.
Any suggestions?

Answer:Inspiron 7352 laptop AC power adapter type cannot be determined

First thing to try is a new OEM Dell AC adapter. If that doesn't solve the problem, replace the DC power jack:

And if that doesn't solve the problem, replace the mainboard.

I have Surface 3 pen and I intend to change its tip. Can I put the Surface Pro 4 / Surface Book pen tip into it and expect it to work flawlessly?

I don't think that would happen, check this article, especially the comments below: https://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/Surface-Pen-Tip-Kit/productID.325725100

Iv recently encountered the dreaded Plugged-In not charging Error
Upon Boot
ALERT! AC power wattage and type cannot be determined. The battery may not charge. The system will adjust the performance to match the power available.
Iv come to the conclusion its the module that determines the adapter and wattage type.
As iv tested it with known working chargers and batteries.
Can anyone *** me with this knowledge or allow me to get a schematic for the mother board?

I have an XPS 12 9250 with an external Dell Adapter USB Type C to HDMI/VGA/Ethernet/USB 470-ABQN. This adapter is working for Ethernet and VGA, but the USB port is not working. I suspect that I need the correct drivers installed. When I plug in my windows phone or my android phone, both devices show that they are charging, but windows 10 does not indicate that it sees the devices. If I plug in an external keyboard to the adapter's USB port, windows 10 does not react, and the keyboard lights do not come on (keyboard works fine on 2 other computers).
So, I'm pretty sure I've installed all the latest drivers that are listed on support.dell.com for the xps 12 9250, but it's hard to tell as there seem to be scores of them.
Is anyone else having this problem? Can anyone tell me which specific drivers I need to get USB working? Thank you

Hi,im having a very frustrating issue with the built-in wirless network adapter. after starting up everything works ok and the wireless connection connects to my local wireless network.once every few hours it suddenly shows an error on the connection icon in the right bottom corner (local area connection only, unable to connect to the internet ) nothing i do from that point solves the problem: i tried the following:1. disable and enable the wireless adpater from vista or the Thinkvantage software.2. turn Off\On the wireless switch infront.3. disconnect and reconnect to another network.4. restart wirless related services. the only thing i can do is restart the computer to fix the issue. im thinking it might be some kind of a hardware failure.but there is no other indication or related symptom of when this happens.could it be related to a fan issue i have been having lately ? Please help ThanksBoaz

After running Windows updates, the Intel HD Graphics adapter has an error which takes out the use of multiple screens either through the HDMI out or USB 2.0. I have tried disabling and re-enabling the adapter, uninstalling and re-installing the driver. Searched on Intel and Lenovo sites for a driver that will work with no luck. The only thing I have found to work so far is restoring to before the updates were ran - which only last so long until the updates run again. Anyone have any ideas?

Has anyone had any inside info - or is there any speculation (based on parts availability or previous release cycles) about the arrival date for the 1TB version of the SP4 & SurfaceBook?

Answer:thoughts and rumors on release / ship date of 1TB version of Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book

You can pre-order them now on the Microsoft Store site, although the 1TB isn't there. Perhaps the site has a direct contact link. Release date is 10/24.Buy Surface Book - Microsoft Store

Has anyone had any inside info - or is there any speculation (based on parts availability or previous release cycles) about the arrival date for the 1TB version of the SP4 & SurfaceBook? I realize that the other versions are already available for pre-order but these 1TB versions cannot even be pre-ordered and there is no date! C'mon Microsoft I need the one with the room to grow :)
