Lenovo X270 Batteries

Question: Lenovo X270 Batteries

Hi I have purchased an additional external battery. On my battery monitor it shows Battey 1 and Battery 2 I believe it's referring to the actual battery and the external battery When I charge with the AC mains it says 50% charging. When I remove the AC charger it shows both batteries 100% charged Sorry it may be a stupid question but I am confused why it says 50% charge when I use the AC charger when both batteries are 100% charged Thank you

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Dear, I am an IT guy at a MNC and I ordered three X270 in Auguest from a Lenovo re-tailer.after I received them from the vendor, I noticed that I could hear loud fan noise that was usual compared to x250, 260 and even x270 that I purchased a few month ago while I was configuring outlook,. The 3 laptops have been making almost the same level of noise while it's running just windows.  I did not install anything and I ordered them with win 10 pro and outlook was installed as default. Users keep complaining about it cause they used to use x250 but it didn't make the noise like this. the bios update did not make a difference so I could help them so far. Today, I received a X270 that I ordered a few weeks ago from a different vendor and it's definitely making fan noise but it's a bit quieter than the above 3 laptops.  I searched about this issue in this forum and found nothing helpful so I am going to call Lenovo Service Center to send an engineer to compare the fan noise. If you guys have any suggestions, please let me know. I will also keep posted.

Hello everyone,I have an X230 and I need to upgrade the laptop to something with an i7 and 32GB RAM.I am very happy with my X230, but I have to change it. From the product page is looks like the X260/X270 have only 1 SODIMM slot. First decent review of the X270. All looking good.Lenovo ThinkPad X270 Review by MobileTechReviewhttps://youtu.be/PxGL1vIX_dw"Lisa Gade reviews the Lenovo ThinkPad X270, the refresh of Lenovo?s smallest traditional business laptop. The X270 replaces the X260 in Lenovo?s 12.5? Ultrabook lineup, and it?s been refreshed with Intel 7th generation Kaby Lake dual core, 15 watt CPUs and Intel HD 620 graphics. It gains a USB-C port and for a portable this small, it packs a lot of ports including Ethernet, HDMI and a dock connector. The 2.9 lb. /1.3kg notebook has Lenovo?s usual excellent backlit keyboard, an MS Precision trackpad, optional LTE 4G and a fingerprint scanner. The Bridge battery system is back with an internal 23 WHr battery and your choice of 3 removable batteries, the largest of which is 72 WHr and allows for extremely long runtimes. The machine is available with a 1366 x 768 TN panel or a 1920 x 1080 IPS display (both are matte and non-touch). Pricing starts around $800, depending on current Lenovo specials."

I've been having an issue with my X270 laptop since I bought it. The laptop is running Windows 10. What happens is randomly (this can take weeks, or days) the trackpad and pointing stick completely stops working. The only solution is to uninstall the drivers and reinstall them using an external mouse. I've tried various versions of the drivers, including the latest, and it still continues to happen. Any solutions to fix this?

I bought a non-Lenovo replacement battery for my very anemic X61 battery because it was half the price and had better amp-hours.  The battery is fine, but whenever I turn on my X61, I get a message telling me I have a non-Lenovo battery and asking me if I want to learn how to buy a Lenovo battery.  I didn't mind the first such message, because there are counterfeit batteries our there, but have the message come up every time and not be removeable is truly obnoxious.  How do I get rid of this obnoxious message?  Thanks.  Ed

Answer:Non-Lenovo batteries

in power manager uncheck the box that says periodically show message about battery charge capacity

I've just bought a refurbished Lenovo T420. The specs include an Intel i5- 2520m processor, 2.50GHZ CPU, 8GB of RAM and 500GB HDD. The reviews I've read are excellent, but they all praise the battery life of the 9 celled T420 (10 hours battery life, hard to beat etc.), but the T420 I've bought is 6 celled - Can anyone tell me what the battery life of the 6 celled T420 is? Also, whether the 6 celled battery is interchangeable with a 9 celled variant if I wanted to purchase one in the future (and which 9 celled batter to purchase).  Thank you for reading.

If you own an IBM or Lenovo laptop, you should know that the companies have decided to recall 526,000 Sony batteries. Hit the link, get the info and then check your laptop and see if yours has one of the batteries in question. How many millions of Sony batteries have been recalled so far? Wow.

Lenovo Group Ltd. and IBM are recalling more than half a million notebook computer batteries made by Sony Corp. after a computer caught fire at the Los Angeles International Airport, Lenovo and U.S. safety officials said on Thursday. Sony separately initiated a global replacement program for lithium-ion batteries it made for notebook PC companies, saying short circuits could occur on rare occasions when tiny metal particles come in contact with other parts of the batteries.

What is the difference between a Lenovo Plus (+) battery and a Lenovo Plus Plus (++) battery? For example, Lenovo makes (made?) a model 70+ and a model 70++. What is the difference?

Solved!

Go to Solution.

Answer:Lenovo Batteries: Plus (+) versus Plus Plus (++) designations

+ model is usually 6 cells, ++ model is usually 9 cells. So a 70+ model is a 6 cells battery, whereas the 70++ is a 9 cells battery.

Hi,I have a Levovo 3000 Y200 (Disney) laptop.I installed Windows 7 on it, as its much better than the Vista that came with the laptop. However, seems that the batteries are not getting charged. The two batteries that came with the machine are showing 0% charge, but I figured that it was due to their age (circa 3 years). So, I bought a new battery, and let it discharge completely, to see if it could be charged, and this new battery also does not charge.I tried to uninstall/install the "control panel/batteries/Microsoft ACPI-compliant Control Method Battery". Hoever, even after it's re-discovered, no charging of batteries occurs. Can you suggest what can be done, as for now, the laptop is just a miniature desktop, which won't work if there's no A/C power. Thanks and bye,Ron.

Answer:Lenovo Y200 won't charge batteries.

remove the battery, press power button couple of seconds, it'll turn on the computer then off. replace the battery and try again.
by the way, have you installed windows 7 power management drivers?

I am having the exact same problem with my Think Pad Helix. This is very disappointing. I called Lenovo Tech Support in Canada and they refused to help me stating that I ran out of warranty about a month ago. When I plug in my AC adapter, it does not charge my battery. I tried every power outlet at home with no luck. I tried at a coffee shop and didnt work. Tried at a friends place and started charging the battery. Seems like it has a mind of its own. If someone can please provide a possible solution. I took my laptop to a computer repair store, they tested the AC adapter and confirmed that it was working. Lenovo - Please help !!!  I am a loyal customer for last 10 years, but will never purchase again if there is no help provided to resolve these issues. Hasan.

I have a Lenovo x201 laptop, It has been sent back for repairs from employee. At first, the fan seemed to be not working causing overheating. I then replaced the fan however the laptop kept shutting down as soon as sign in screen showed up.I think there is a FAN issue where it doesn't run because of low computer usage causing the laptop to crash.I have found a workaround which is a weird way.So if I REMOVE the battery from the back and PLUG in the adapter, the laptop works just fine. I have to care to not unplug the cord accidentally. When I start the laptop + signin everything works fine, and I can hear the fan spinning where before, when the battery was plugged in, It used to idle causing a crash. Now if I put the battery back in. WHILE it is PLUGGED IN and on desktop screen, it SHUTS OFF in a matter of seconds.I concluded that the BATTERY causes the FAN to IDLE which in turn shuts the LAPTOP off because it is thinking the FAN is FAULTY.Now I am on a domain at the moment, so I cannot download a CPU Fan Management Program to keep the fan at a steady X%.ANY IDEAS ? Hi all, I got a X270 here that has been freezing a few seconds every so and on and it is giving me headaches. The symptom is screen freezes for a few ~ 10 seconds but mouse and keyboard inputs are accepted. After the freeze is resolved, all inputs are shown. The frequency varies; 3 times within an hour or non in a day. Happens at least once a day. Googled it, came across the term "generic freeze" but the solution given didn't solve mine.  I've read about turning off Link Power Management. Check, still happensRead about ESET conflicting with Windows Defender. Defender is disabled, check. Still happens. Anyway, here are the specs: OS: Win 10 Pro x64 English Build 16299 (1709 Fall update) (US)Core: i7 7600U 2.8GHz (Don't know if overclocked or not, did not touch any CPU settings)Storage: SAMSUNG NVMe 256GB, factory item- Model: SAMSUNG MZVLW256- Firmware: 4L7Q, Lenovo storage device firmware update utility says it's the latest versionWWAN: Sierra Wireless EM7430 LTERAM: 16GB x1, factory item All updates are patched. I ordered this custom model online from Lenovo Japan, but there's this few second freeze happening straight when I first received it. Hello, I have a Laptop Lenovo X270, model 20K5S11F00 and I want to install Windows 7 (64 bits) on it, could that's possible?I can't boot on my Windows 7 installation CD.... Thanks

Answer:X270 Windows 7 64bits

Hey, yes that's possible. You have to install Win7 from a USB device or via network. Required for this installtion is a patched Win7 installer with USB3.0 and NVMe support. But just to know for you, Microsoft stoped the support for Intel seventh (7th)-generation processors (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4012982/the-processor-is-not-supported-together-with-the-wi...). Nevertheless all drivers are avaivilable and working.....it's really annoying that Microsoft is forcing the people to Win10 that way.... CheersTom

Hi, I have a new X270 laptop running Win10 update 1703. When it is connected to power, it disconnects from our vpn every 10 minutes (almost to the second). The machine is running with the performance power policy and I did not find anything in there to indicate why the vpn gets disconnected. We have many users using the vpn and this is the only machine to exhibit this behavior. BUT, when the machine is running on battery, the problem goes away. The user of this machine is getting very frustrated and given that she is not local, onsite diagnostics are not easy. Any ideas what is going on with this. It is very bizarre. Let me know if more information is needed. Thanks. Rich.

On X270 [Model : 20K5S29H00], with Windows 7 and Legacy Bios [1.19], every time the machine is shutdown it asks for Bitlocker Recovery key. When the machine is restarted, it does not prompt at all. There are no special PCR's configuration. Not sure what else have to be checked in. Any help ?

Hi folks! Would appreciate some input...Am moving from an old x120e (which runs windows 10 and works perfectly, except that I have gotten tired of its relatively weak processor (E-350 AMD) after 5 years) to the x270. Haven't bought it yet, but it is my target laptop. My question is primarily about build quality. As someone said in a different forum/thread, the x120e is built like a tank, albeit a small one. I fully agree. How is the x270? Is it as tough/tougher? I know the x270 is overall head and shoulders above the x120e in terms of display (I'm aiming for the FHD), processor (i5-7xxx), TPM security, etc etc. So my question is really only about how well it is built. Has anyone bought it?(a) How's the shake, rattle, flex, creak, and bend, if any. My only Thinkpad benchmark for build qual is the x120e and that one is Rock solid (capital R).(b) Does it run cool? I had to redo the thermal paste on the x120e after which it has behaved admirably for 4 years. I expect the x270 is quieter and cooler. Is this correct? Many thanks.

Answer:Veriton X270 - Windows 10

Hi Scutu The X270 is an older model PC, but as you're running Windows 8 successfully, it SHOULD upgrade to Windows 10. You can: 1. Image your hard drive, so if Windows 10 causes problems you can return exactly as it was, many weeks after upgrading   or 2. Upgrade to Windows 10. you can revert back to Windows 8 by going to Settings>Update & Security>Recovery. Follow the on screen instructions. There is a 30 day limit to do this.

It seems that Lenovo has released today first infos of upcoming models including X270: http://www.anandtech.com/show/10940/lenovo-updates-the-thinkpad-lineup-new-models-welcome-changes I have been postponing laptop purchase because I want one with QHD or better resolution, thunderbolt3 and ability to charge with standard USB type-C charger. Now it seems that for some reason that I cannot understand Lenovo has still decided not to include QHD or QHD+ resolutions to quite many of the upcoming models, including X270, Yoga 370, Thinkpad 13 and T470. It is now already 4.5 years ago from the moment when Apple Released Macbook Pro retina with QHD equivalent resolution. In addition some of the articles claim that the new USB type-C port in X270 will NOT have thunderbolt3 availability. And it is like 5.5 years since Apple included thunderbolt. I really think we should start noise from this. If there will not be a serious portable workstation like X270 with QHD or better resolution and enough USB-slots (at least 3+1) and thunderbolt support I am seriously considering to switch away from Lenovo (e.g. Dell XPS 13). I know that some people prefer FullHD (e.g. for longer battery life) so there could be an option for both. I want QHD because 1. If you want to have two web browsers side by side without horizontal scroll bars you will need minimun QHD, 2. Because you can actually start to see details in pdf books without zooming 3. Because you can have large amou... Read more

I never had problems imaging Lenovo Laptops, so we got a X270 as a demo and i put Windows 10 Enterprise on there, enabled the chip in bios and it is using TPM 2.0 which is the only difference compared to T550, T450 and P50 i had image. Whenever i try to start bitlocking (encrypting the drive) i'll put in a pin number, recovery is stored in Active Directory but as soon as it restarts I get the following error: "The BitLocker Encryption key cannot be obtained. Verify that the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) is enabled and ownership has been taken. If this computer does not have a TPM, verify that the USB drive is inserted and available. C: was not encrypted" I can't think of anything else to fix this. Since this is a 30 day demo trial, we might as well send it back. We have NVME for HPS which I am able to put our image on and bitlock with no issues. I can't believe I don't see much online about this. I can't be the only one. Any suggestions much appreciate it.

Good evening all! I am a very happy owner of an X270 laptop, running Gentoo Linux. Everything (with the exception of fingerprint recognition) works very well indeed. I want to put a second SSD in the WLAN slot, but I am struggling to find clear specifications as to what can be fitted. Can anyone please point out where I should be able to find this information, or better still give me a clear specification so I can order a drive. I am looking at https://www.scan.co.uk/products/256gb-scanfx-sm961-polaris-m2-nvme-mlc-v-nand-ssd-pcie-30-x4-read-31...It appears to be correct, but I am not sure if the physical size is OK or not. Many thanks for your support!

Answer:SSD Specification for X270 WWAN slot

Hello and welcome,

I don't have hands on experience but based on these documents that SSD won't work.

First, the 2nd SSD goes in the WWAN slot - presuming you don't have WWAN or WiGig already.  The WWAN slot doesn't support NVMe, and isn't that physical size.

http://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad%20X270/ThinkPad_X270_Platform_Specificatio...

"Some: 128GB M.2 SSD / SATA 6.0Gb/s, in WWAN slot as 2nd Storage,
mutually exclusive with WWAN and WiGig"

Looking at the HMM, the SSD tha would fit is 2242 SATA.

Hardware Maintenance Manual - ThinkPad X270

The SSD you linked is 80mm NVMe and could go in the primary slot - with proper frame and cable - but not in the WWAN slot.

Hi, as a long-term Dell Latitude user, I had to switch to Lenovo ThinkPad with a new employer. I was used to have keyboard always on (and the keyboard was really always backlit when laptop was on). On ThinkPad, the keyboard goes always OFF when laptop goes to sleep or power off. While starting/resuming the laptop I always have to turn the backlit keyboard MANUALLY on. How can I keep the keyboard backlit always on? (there are some other related topics on this forum but none is related to ThinkPad X series) Thanks,Radek

Some previous Thinkpad user suggestion like FN+F3 , FN+F7 didn't work in this laptop. I know there are some 3rd party EXE tools could turn the screen off however I don't want to rely on them because of security. Anyone know the magic key combo for X270? Thanks!

HiI am trying to build an x270 from a bootable ISO. I click Custom install but get no drives found at the "where do you want to install windows" stage. The full message is "load driver to provide a mass storage driver for installation" I guess this is due to the SSD driver missing but not sure how to find the correct driver, whether or not I need to inject it into the ISO, or even how to do it. Anyone done this before please!!! Thanks

Answer:Thinkpad x270 HD SSD not detected during rebuild

What operating system are you trying to install?  What is the source of the ISO?  What is the MT-M of the laptop?

Answer:Cant install Win10 T470p and x270

Hello and welcomeI can't explain the reason of error, sorry for that. It seems the installation log is needed to inspect but it might be difficult enough task. Why didn't you install Creators Update via Windows System Update, using Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant? I've perfomed that task on T470p from factory version 1607 to 1703 without any issue:- SU has installed update 3150513 (probably, update 4013214 is needed too but not in my case)- I didn't wait the offer from SU to perform the auto-updgrade to 1703 and open new link appeared in Windowss Settings -> Update to load and launch Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant- then the OS updgrade has been done successfully.Lenovo image preloaded on T470p is almost clear from OS preinstalled junk (it's a Signature Edition) and Lenovo apps except of needed settings metro application. So, there isn't so many reasons to install Creators update from the scratch.

I just received a new x270 and it's working very well. I ordered it with the larger 6cell 47Wh Rear battery. That works best when I'm on the road and have no access to AC power. But I'm often using it plugged in and the unit would be lighter and lay flatter without that larger rear battery bulge. Does anyone know what the part number is for the 3 Cell Li-Ion Rear Battery (23.2Wh)? I've searched the Lenovo website and have not found it listed as a part that can be ordered. Thanks, Russell

This will lead to fairure in Charging the laptop via USB type-C.Both x270 and X1 CARBON 2017 are affected.I managed to downgrade to 1.21 from 1.23, now everything works well. Don't know if this is a bug, or Lenovo has intention of doing this.

Sometimes it charges the laptop but most of times it doesnt. Why is this happening and what is the solution. Regards,MHBaig

I'm using a fairly new X270 (about two months old) with Windows 10, machine type 20HNCTO1WW.  Yesterday, as far as I could tell, my Bluetooth suddenly stopped working.  By "as far as I can tell", I mean that my only reason for using Bluetooth is an audio receiver connected to my stereo; so I don't have any other devices to check it with.  (Before I go any further, I'll add that the receiver still works fine with my three-year-old Yoga.) Basically, my music stopped playing.  I tried restarting my computer and reconnecting to the device.  In nearly every instance, my X270 was unable to reconnect with the receiver.  In the two or three instances when it did reconnect, it played music briefly--no more than thirty seconds--and then abruptly stopped. The only thing out-of-the-ordinary going on during this time was that within a few minutes of the problem's appearance I got a notice from Lenovo Update stating that an update was ready.  Lenovo Companion shows that it installed - Intel Management Engine 11.8 Firmware - 7 [32,64]/8.1/10 [64] - V.11.8.50.3425- Intel 8265 Wireless LAN Driver - 10 [64] - V.19.71.1.1 As for how far along these updates were when they were announced, who knows?  The process by which Windows alerts me of its updates is still a bit opaque to me (I haven't had too much time to investigate it yet), and I'm not sure how far that might extend to Lenovo's updates. Anyway, if anyone has any insight or ... Please look in Device Manager -> Network Adapters to find the Intel wireless adapter.  Then double-click on it and go to the Driver tab.  What is the version of the driver?

Hello, I have an x270 and when searching for drivers on the lenovo driver page, I cannot locate a fingerprint sensor driver at all. Can anyone point me to this driver? There is a common driver which is for all previous x series, does not include x270.  Here are the hardware ID for the two missing devices: I believe this is a synaptics fingerprint driverUSB\VID_138A&PID_0097&REV_0164I believe this is an Intel Driver:ACPI\VEN_INT&DEV_0E0C

I recently purchased a ThinkPad X270 with the 1920x1080 IPS non-touch display.  After only a very short time using it, I noticed that the display starting jumping and flickering very badly at random times.  The BIOS and all of the drivers were updated to what the Lenovo Companion tool recommended.  I captured some video of the behavior here: https://1drv.ms/v/s!AjP8R5t89zq2oXvMKmnuV_6l0fic I was hoping that this was just a bad individual unit.  I contacted support and explained the problem, and they set me up with a replacement.  Well, the replacement arrived yesterday and it's doing the exact same thing.  Videos of the new one exhibiting the problem are here: https://1drv.ms/f/s!AjP8R5t89zq2oXzhuWwFO34fh-s7 I've started the refund process for the new one because at this point, I suspect it is either a driver problem, a design problem, or a supply chain problem with the LCD panel.  I'm not sure what model I will ultimately upgrade to from my beloved x230 but unfortunately, I'm sure it's not the x270.

Upgraded to Windows 10 64bit Pro, but the graphics card is not installed. The default Microsoft driver does not render the display at the correct resolution and display is unreadable as some colours are missing. Tried the Vista 64bit driver from Acer website but that does not seem to install. Computer asks to reboot but I am still on the broken Microsoft driver. I thought I could use the Nvidia geforce g210 Windows 10 driver 64bit but that says it cant find compatible hardware... Any help appreciated...

Answer:Veriton X270 graphics driver windows 10

https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/862957/nvidia-geforce-7100-nvidia-nforce-630i-windows-10-no... download thishttp://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/82758 initially, the resolution was very bad, and I checked in Control Panel, Video Device Driver, I noticed that the standard video driver of microsoft was installed, even though the GeForce driver was still in the Installed Programs. Then I ran the above Geforce driver and the problem of the resolution was solved.
