Need advice for using Windows 10 Pro on a Thinkpad X200 Tablet.

Question: Need advice for using Windows 10 Pro on a Thinkpad X200 Tablet.

Ordered an old Ebay refurbished Lenovo ThinkPad X200 Tablet to replace my too slow Dell ST2.
It has 4GB ram and has been upgraded to Windows 10 Pro. I intend to clone the HDD to SSD.

Can anyone here advise on any issues and recommended drivers?
I know it's old school, but just needed an inexpensive browser for the porch.

Preferred Solution: Need advice for using Windows 10 Pro on a Thinkpad X200 Tablet.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Dear community, I found my screen starts flickering not long after I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 on my thinkpad x200 tablet. It happens especially when I have an external monitor connected to the laptop and when I maximize a Microsoft Edge brower on screen. Scrolling the mouse will trigger the lines on a page flickering back and forth or partially disappeared. This is really annoying when I want to scroll down a little bit to find some useful information. I have tried to use the "sfc /scannow" command to identify potential problems and to reinstall compatible Thinkpad graphics and video drivers, but no luck. I have also tried other solutions that I can find online (like disabling the issue reporting service), yet still this problem persists. I contacted Microsoft for their assistance, and they suggest me to ask the manufacture to solve this problem. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks,Qi

Answer:Screen flickering on Thinkpad X200 tablet with Windows 10

Here is a quick soultion to this screen problem in windows 10  1. Type ?msconfig? in run box and open it 2. Click on the ?Services? tab. 3 Scroll down and find two services named ?Problem Reports and Solution Control Panel ?and ?Windows Error Reporting Service?. If you have difficulty finding these two services then you click on ?Service? column header in the table. This will alphabetically arrange all the services. 4. Uncheck these two services. Press ?OK?. Source: Fix windows 10 screen flickering problem

So I upgraded to Windows 10, everything works out, but I noticed from Matlab that the OpenGL support is only on the version of 1.1. I further pocked around , and found the graphics accelerator driver is from Microsoft and has some known issues (from Matlab). Then I downloaded the Intel Driver Update Utility to update the graphics driver, but nothing can be found there. Back to Windows 7, the Intel Driver works fine for me and gave OpenGL ~2.2 support. Does anyone knows better drivers in Windows 10 than the default Microsoft one? Thanks in advance.

Hi I've looked at every category in the drivers matrix and absolutely cannot find the drivers that control the Tablet buttons on my tablet screen,  Can anyone point me to a link???  I found another thread on this forum that talks about a similar issue and someone posted a link to beta drivers, but the link doesn't go beyond the main Support home page at Lenovo.  Thanks, -G

Hey there Cr0sschex77,

To get some clarification to better direct you, what operating system are you currently using? Additionally are you referring to physical buttons or "buttons" on the touchscreen once at the desktop? Thanks Cr0sschex77!

I am looking to order an x200 Tablet and I am trying to balance my desire to get it NOW with the uncertainty of knowing what's around the corner in the world of computing, particularly in Lenovo world. I know that there is ALWAYS something bigger (smaller?), better, and/or faster coming in the world of laptops but there are times when computing makes huge leaps (case in point: I bought a T42p just weeks before the T60 line came out with Core 2 Duo processors and I was stuck with a machine that could not run 64-bit).Relatively minor things like more RAM, thinner design, brighter screens, etc. is there something HUGE that's expected or rumored to be coming soon from Lenovo, especially in the tablet line? Also, what tends to be the cheapest place to buy Lenovo laptops? It certainly isn't lenovo.com because the same configured x200 tablet there was over $1,050 more there than at bestbuyforbusiness.com and various other resellers. Thanks!

Answer:advice on when to buy x200 tablet

Well, early T60s can't run 64-bit OS either unless you change the CPU which calls for a revision 3 motherboard...so you haven't done that bad with T42p back in the day... Given the current market situation, the fact that X200T is still a pretty new model and changes in Lenovo's leadership and priorities that are likely to shift, I believe that it's a fairly safe bet to say that X200T will remain largely unchanged for quite a while. As for where to shop for one, try Lenovo's outlet or eBay... Hope this helps.

I have a windows 7 pro disk and I am planning to upgrade my x200t to win7. I have a couple of questions regarind the process. First, I don't have a CD drive. Is it okay to upgrade using USB by following some directions like these? Also, will I be able to download all of the software and drivers that came with the tablet from lenovo once I have done a clean install using a standard win 7 disk? thanks

Hi all, This started of as an email to direct to Lenovo, but after 1 hour of going through there various websites only to discover they don't seem to have an online contact form or a public email address. So I am hoping someone here can help me with my questions.  I have a few questions regarding the IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad x200 Tablet (7450-R93).I am aware that this is not your current model and they have been superseded by the x201 model. The x200?s ?touchscreen?, I cannot seem to find any precise details regarding the type of touch screen technology used in these units. What type of touch technology is used in the x200: Resistive, SAW, Capacitive, Hybrid Capacitive or something else?If we were to purchase a lot of between 5-10 brand new units from the USA, is the warranty offered an international warranty?Do you still produce/sell accessories for this model: specifically batteries and do you make a case for this unit that enables table use while still in the case? Sorry I was to slack to rewrite the email that I prepared to send. ;-) Cheers, Matt

Answer:A couple of Thinkpad X200 Tablet Questions

"The x200?s ?touchscreen?, I cannot seem to find any precise details regarding the type of touch screen technology used  in these units. What type of touch technology is used in the x200: Resistive, SAW, Capacitive, Hybrid Capacitive or something else?" I own a x200t but not THAT x200t you are looking for, so i don't know. But i can tell you that when it comes to the digitizer option on a x200t you have basicaly 3 options:1) you only have an active digitizer (wacom made) that can be used with the included stylus.2) you have the wacom digitize + the passive-resistive digitizer. The latter can be used with your finger.3)wacom+passive capacitive multitouch digitizer. The fact is that the first x200t models ha the reistive option only. But the last x200t also implemented the wacom capacitive multitouch one.  "If we were to purchase a lot of between 5-10 brand new units from the USA, is the warranty offered an international  warranty?"From what i know ALL lenvo thinpad tablet (x200t or x201t) are sold ONLY with internationa warranty. It doesn't depend on the number  of units you want to purchase. "Do you still produce/sell accessories for this model: specifically batteries and do you make a case for this unit that  enables table use while still in the case?"The accessories are the same fr x200t and x201t. Same are the batteries (8cell or 4 cell), same is the stylus and same is the bumpcase. For the case you are lokking for take a ... Read more

I am the owner of an X200 Tablet (7448-CTO). I purchased this laptop (+ 3 year on-site repair and Thinkpad Protection) for school just over 2 years ago. Long story short,  I am having EXTREMELY bad luck with the screen on this laptop and am curious about what sort of Lemon Policy that Lenovo might have. Pretty much the only problems I've had with this laptop have been related to the screen. (Although I think I did have to get the motherboard replaced once). Anways, I don't remember my exact repair history, but it seems that within the first 1.5 year of owning it I had to have the screen replaced twice. The first time went well. The issue was resolved. I forget what went wrong next, but on that repair the person apparently wasn't very familiar with the convertible tablets because the screen area/hinge didn't seem put together correctly when he was done. After that repair I caved and mailed my laptop to the depot. However, I did wait awhile to make the service call because the laptop was usable and I needed it. By the time I had time to send it in, they decided to replace the screen. However, this time the part wasn't available and I ended up having to wait for qiute a bit. I finally got it escalated but the guy in Atlanta that was supposed to be doing that completely ignored me (never called to update after the initial contact when he said he would and never answered messages). I finally got through to his backup guy on the phone and that guy *somehow* found the... Read more

It's a long story but it ends with the fact that I'm looking to get another X200 Tablet. As much as I liked my first Multitouch Screen X200, I'm considering going with the SuperBright screen this time.I had the Multitouch with W7 running fine but I found that I rarely used touch. The pen just worked better. The incremental price is not an issue; more the quality of use for web and garmin mapsource etc. Could anyone advise about the comparison, eg. short comings of the Superbright screen in a pen-only use?

Answer:X200 Tablet Superbright vs Multitouch Screen advice please

The term Superbright isn't misleading, it makes a difference in sunlight and on more than one occassion our employees recieve complaints and requests to dim their LCD's by flight attendants when traveling on commercial airliners at night because it seems to annoy multile rows of seats behind them that it is impossible to determine just which passenger griped about it. A few of our staffers complain about headaches since they don't remember how they set their LCD to max and dim but one had learned how to use power manger and created a custom proifle to dim the screen when the battery fell to 99% capacity  but was embarrased to ask where the LCD dimmer keys were. After months of usage, our screens remain anecdotally as bright but we haven't used light meters to prove it,,,, some things are venerable including sungligt and these LCD's. Unless you plan lots of outside and sunny usage...you may just become prematurely and unecessarily blinded.

Hi,

I upgraded to Windows 10 a few days ago, and have been experiencing frequent BSOD over time for different reasons. Attached is the log of the last one I just encountered today (there are also dumps from some of the earlier BSODs). It occurs when I am not by the computer as usual again. This time, my external monitor was plugged in but not switched on as an extended monitor. Before this one, the BSOD were usually coded as CRITICAL PROCESS DIED or SERVICE error or similar for different reasons. But most of them occur when there is no activity on the computer for a while. My external Dell monitor was usually plugged in as the extended monitor. Those BSOD also caused some hard driver errors which I have fixed yesterday. It also cannot automatically login despite I have set it up.

Basic info on my computer: Lenovo Thinkpad X200 tablet, with Mobile Intel 4 Series chipset of graphics card. From my device manager, I didn't see any obvious problem with drivers so far. Intel does not provide a proper graphics driver for WIndows 10, but I want to use OpenGL.

Hopefully you can help me figure out what's the problem and how to fix it. Thanks.

Answer:Frequent BSOD on Thinkpad X200 tablet with two screens

Just got another BSOD while I left my office for a while. Attached is the dump file.

PS: I tried to read the dump file by installing windows debugging tools, but I got the "win32 error 0n193" error. I tried to use the x86 windbg.exe, no success. If anyone can point out how to read the dump file by myself if analyzing the dump file will take a while, I would appreciate it!

For the past 3 weeks my thinkpad table x200 has not been working. Thanks to the great lenovo/ibm support. I am looking for help. I called the support and explained the problem, I was encountering with my thinkpad tablet. They told me, I have to reinstall vista. So they sent me the vista/lenovo install disk. Very fast (3 weeks later, so yesterday) I finally get the dvds (3 in total). But how do I install vista without a dvdplayer. Unfortunately,I don't have one with my machine. I supposed, they knew what they were doing at Lenovo.  Does anyone has a way to do it? Should I place it on an external hardrive, an usb key? Thank you for any help you can give me! If I cann't find a way to do it, I will call back the lenovo/support... gosh at the end of the week, it will be 4 weeks..  Bye Hernan

Answer:How to install vista on my thinkpad tablet x200 without dvdplayer

Do a search online for installing vista through a USB drive. Requires one 4+ GB in size. Isn't a terribly hard thing to do.

I recently did a fresh install of win 7 64-bit on my thinkpad x200 tabletpc, updated all the usual drivers and software from lenovo and windows update. Whenever I rotate my display into tablet mode, I always get the message 'USB Device Not Recognized' in the system tray, windows then trys to find and install device drivers for it but is unsuccessful every time. I have tried to find device drivers to fix this without any success. In device manager, I see the culprit highlighted under Universal Serial Bus Controllers with a yellow exclamation mark sign beside 'Unknown Device' with a location of Port_#001.Hub_#002. I have tried uninstalling and and reinstalling this, still no success. I have tried to disable it merely to stop the annoying prompt from the system tray yet it still comes back and warns me of the same problem. Has anybody else experienced this ? Does anybody have any suggestion for solving the problem ?I'm guessing it is related to the display driver, I will try installing/reinstalling another version of that to see if that fixes it. I'm starting to doubt the integrity of this tablet, I've begun to notice a lot more driver and USB conflicts lately..

I guess, this is missing and so unknown devices cannot get recognized well.

Sigh.  Hopefully someone here can help me. Does anyone know the type model number for the Thinkpad x200 Ultrabase?? I'm trying to get a defective Thinkpad x200 ultrabase replaced because the USB ports stopped working.  Tested it with other USB devices, on other x200s, etc...no go. I tried going through Lenovo's <sarcasm> wonderful </sarcasm> tech support but for some strange reason they can not replace the part because they cannot find the model type in their system.   I sent them a 600DPI PDF of the back of the docking station to them and they said that they still couldn't find it in their system. This is a company laptop and it belongs to a vice president.  They want a proof of purchase (which I don't have because they are ordered through another department and to get that information it might take a week...at the earliest).  Why do they even have the serial number if they cannot connect it to anything in their system??? The worst part is that this is not the first time I've had issues replacing parts.  Every time it takes at least an hour and the parts NEVER come when they say that they do.  (sorry, once they did...bleeping miracle) I NEVER receive an email saying the part was sent or they are having issues, etc. WORST SYTEM EVER. I hope some high mucky-muck is reading this and gets pissed.  Their system is BROKEN and needs to be fixed. Thank you!

I have been recently getting a lot of BSOD on my Thinkpad "x200" tablet. It may be caused by the fact that I am using a refurbished x201 tablet motherboard with rest of the components from a dead x200 tablet. However, it was working perfectly before I cleaned installed it on last week and I had the Frankenpad working since spring break. I don't know if it started before or after I installed 8gbs of PNY ddr3 ram. I believe it happened after I corrected a Machine code error 2200 on my laptop (lack of serial and model number in bios) and added a Intel 6300 wireless card.

Details:
? 64 bit
? clean installed to Windows 7 Professional upgrade (via usb, used ISO from digital river and made the usb bootable using Universal USB Installer from pendrivelinux.com)
? Age of laptop: unknown, motherboard was a refurbished product I got during Spring break.
? Current OS installed is 4 days old.

The one crash included was caused by a memory exception probably by an unknown driver

Since you added ram recently I would run Memtest

Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program.

Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slo... Read more

Hello I recently bought the tablet second hand. now really wish I had not. I cannot get sound out of the speakers, despite installing the sound driver from the lenovo archive for Dec 2010. I am running windows 7 ultimate. Should I just accept that I have no sound from the speaker and live with it?

Hey Zebra, I recently had an rtfm moment with this issue.  I had installed and reinstalled the Tablet Button Drivers... or so I thought.   Checkout the readme for the driver.  After you double click the .exe, it looks as if it installs, but all that does is extract the files to a folder on the HD.   Probably here C:\DRIVERS\WIN\TBBTN unless you changed it.  Go there and click setup.exe.... you'll have to reboot when it is done.  HTH

Recieved my brand new loaded x200 tablet last month and since then I've been having issues with sleeping. For whatever reason, only some of the time, when I try to put the tablet into sleep, it simply won't. The status lights will remain as they were, the screen will go black, and nothing will remove it from this state. The only option is to pull the battery or hold the power switch till it powers off completely. I updated to the newest intel 4500 drivers (newer than lenovo's page) for graphics, and double checked that every other driver was current. I also saw mention of intel virtualization stuff causing issues, but changes haven't fixed it. I'm having a hard time diagnosing it as it doesn't even seem to appear in the windows system logs. Specs are: X200 Tablet with Win 7 enhanced experience, multi finger multi touch display, L9400 with 4GB ram, webcam, fingerprint, 5inone card reader with modem, 5400 rpm 160gb hdd, not anywhere near the ultrabase when this happens.

Answer:X200 tablet with windows 7 fails to sleep

I have precisely the same problem. It happens randomly when I try to sleep or hibernate the tablet. Happens when either docked to the ultrabase or not. Very frustrating that I can't trust the laptop to sleep when I need it to.

The touch device on our x200 tablets has always been called Wacom Serial Pen Tablet.  Works fine in XP.  I'm trying to get one working with Windows 7 now.  The "multitouch" driver from Lenovo doesn't work (I don't think these tablets are multitouch anyways) and the driver straight from Wacom results in a BSOD.  The "Wacom Serial Pen Tablet" driver apparently comes with Windows 7, because it's there if I manually choose a driver.  I once got it to work forcing it to use that driver, but now after reinstalling again it just says the device cannot start.  Any ideas?

I am trying to work on OBD2 bluetooth car dongles and, because of traditional Windows difficulties with phantom serial port retention, I needed to find a machine with little in the way of features that could confuse me by having many serial ports already in use. I also wanted to use Windows 10 to look at its enhanced features eg bluetooth in Microsoft Message Analyser. My old X200T looked ideal. It worked perfectly in W7 and provided pen and single touch, thus being ideal for working in the front seat of a vehicle. The update to W10 went well, and the pen works fine, but single touch does nothing. At one stage in thrashing about with drivers, I had it working on the touch calibration on-screen "targets", but it did nothing when I touched the on-screen touch pads. Even that has now stopped working. I think the problem may be related to the fact that Microsoft is telling me that it has Pen and Touch support with 2 Touch points. If I uninstall everything related to Wacom and reboot, Pen disappears, but Touch with 2 touch points always comes back. Has anyone else seen this and found a workaround?

I used the pen/touch Windows 7 driver from this page: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/WIN7-BETA.html and it seems to work just fine, other than my own confusion over what sort of multitouch I had. I don't have an internal camera; my x200 is a 7448. -- Chris

Hi Wogabun and welcome to the community,

Download and install TVSU and run it and see what it comes up with.  You'll need MS Net Framework 1.1 or 2.0 at least for it to run.

Hello to all.I have a problem with my X200 tablet  P/N 7449-FWG which after upgraded to windows 7 does not detect the following devices:- Mobile Broadband- Wireless USB- Intel WI Max- GPS receiverAll the above where installed and functioning when the machine shipped to me last August running Vista Pro 64-bit There is another change symptom. When it worked under Vista, the machine remembered the state of wireless devices after hibernation/reboot. Now, under  Windows 7 the machine boots with bluetooth always off, and i must go to FN-F5 to activate it. All the rest seem to work perfectly.Any help would be appreciated, because i tried anything i could think of to resolve the problem. Regards  -

Answer:X200 Tablet wireless problems after upgrading to windows 7

Depending on the upgrade procedure, Windows downloads and installs some, but not all of the drivers needed for Thinkpads. The remaining drivers can be obtained from Lenovo's website for X200 Tablets at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-70476 or more simply using Thinkvantage System Update (TVSU) that can be downloaded at  http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/TVSU-UPDATE.html. After installing, run TVSU and choose the drivers and programs needed. Note - Lenovo's Win7 upgrade kit includes a separate disk for installing Thinkvantage System Update and other Thinkpad drivers and utilities.

I have an X200 tablet running Windows 7. If a USB device is plugged in (mouse, drive etc) and the notebook enters sleep mode after some time (as defined in the  power plan), an attempt to awaken it results in a notebook hang. The notebook appears to wake up but the login screen is never displayed. The screen remains blank. The power plan has the "USB selective suspend setting" disabled but the same issue occurs even when this setting is enabled. I have deleted the USB drivers and reinstalled them. All MS and Thinkpad drivers and updates are current. Has anyone else encountered the same issue? Greatly appreciate any feedback on remediation methods. Thanks.

Hi, harddisk usage problems on backup and restore as this is so important after a new OS has been upgraded. The case:1. Re-installed a clean Vista to the X-200 Tablet before upgrading the PC to Windows 7, hoping that the new Windows-7 would be clean & more robust rather than working with a lot of old Vista applications and files. 2.  Installed Office Enterprise for testing basic keys and button functions with Windows 7. 3. Went to Control panel and clicked "Backup and Restore" to do a manual backup just in case the system crashes as we have to separately install a lot of drivers (good luck)  to the machine under the new Windows 7 (this is a problem prone operation) to make the control and buttons work again. 4.  There are three drive partitions in all after the upgrade (the harddisk has a virgin 300GB total space) :-         (a)  SW_Preload C: used - 56.4GB (only Windows 7 and Microsoft Office Enterprise installed)                                          free - 220GB                                &n... Dear Lenovo support staff  / community, I just purchased a brand-new X200 and the pen / touch / tablet feature works out-of-the-box with its pre-installed Windows Vista 64-bit OS.  Because the applications I intend to use the Tablet with do not support Vista 64-bit (namely, Dragon Systems), I used the Windows XP Tablet Edition SP-2 Product Recovery Disc kit that came with the Lenovo tablet, and followed the conversion instructions included in the booklet down to the letter. However, when it converted the OS to Windows XP, the pen / touch functionality is completely gone, and I am unable to find any help online, or in Lenovo product support when called in. Installing the Multitouch drivers on the Lenovo support site for X200 drivers does not work, and installing the WACOM drivers does nothing either. I can confirm this is most likely a 100% repro case, as I have two brand new X200 Tablets and the same behavior is exhibited on both. Please advise.

For example if anyone has an x200 and could try to play a flash game , the movement is not smooth , for example 8 ball miniclip pool . I'm wondering if this is a problem with the OS and may need to downgrade to windows 7 x64 or a problem with not being powerful enough the laptop to handle a simple flash game?  Thanks everyone!

I have an IBM ThinkPad X41 that was issued to me from work. I would like to reinstall the operating system to get rid of all the garbage that's on it. Should I install Windows XP Professional on it or should I somehow contact IBM for the CD's to be reissued?

Any ideas???

Hi everyone,  I've bought an X200s in 2010. The default system is Windows 7. Every few months I would restore the system to factory settings so I can have a refreshed system.  I tried to recover the system today, but when I pressed F11 during boot up, the system said it "cannot find files".  So I checked out with the Q drive, but I accidentally chose "recover disk space" so Q driver was gone...  Then I took the DVDs recovery disks, I thought it would be easy... but the discs Lenovo gave me was for Windows XP Professional SP3...  Is it a mistake that they shipped me the Recoverey Disks for Windows XP? Or is there any other way that I can recover the Windows 7 to factory default? Thank you very much!

Answer:Thinkpad X200, Windows 7 installed in the system, but came with XP recovery disks?

Did you bought this from Lenovo directly? So machine was ordered with Win XP recovery media when they were shipped from factory. Right now you probably need to speak to the Lenovo warranty department and request a win 7 recovery media to be sent to you (if you are in warranty).Otherwise, you can use aftermarket Win 7 iso to do the installation and then activate it using the win 7 serial number under your laptop.Or Purchase a Win 7 recovery media from Lenovo.

Hi,. the particular model of my x200 is 7453-FJ9. I bought it from ebay and the seller claimed is was multi-touch. After checking on the Levono support page where you identify the machine features through the model # above, it does not mention anything about being touch capable let alone multitouch. However, since I installed a new copy of windows 7 pro 64-bit on a new hdd, after installing all of the automated lenovo and windows updates, I checked the system properties and it states 'Pen and Single Touch Input Available' as shown in my system properties screen below.

Link to picture

I have tried to use the single touch input but it does not seem to be working. I have tried calibrating touch input though the screen calibration and it has not worked. I have looked at the HCI devices in the device manager and it shows 'Wacom Penabled MiniDriver','Bluetooth Remote Control', 'HID Compliant Consumer Control Device' and several repeated entries of 'HID-compliant device' but nothing about touch input !

I don't understand what is going on, do you think this tablet has touch input available ? Should I try install the touch driver on the lenovo website ? the wacom website ? or am i just wasting my time thinking it has touch input since it is not mentioned on the 7453-FJ9 lenovo support page (that I can see). Any advice on this would be kindly appreciated..

you will want to check whetner there is a physical card installed. the x200 does have the card slot, but that does not mean that wwan card is installed. and even then ,its also not confirmed whether you have the wwan antennas installed. you will want to check your windows device manager and make sure you have a 3g modem listed under network adapters. if you dont, the card is unlikely to have been installed physically.

My Vivotab Note 8 went kapoot (USB port broke) and I've got the choice to pay $180 to get it fixed, or use that to get something else.
At $180, I get a pretty nice tablet back. That could go toward a new one too. Or I could use that to put an SSD in my laptop.
If I go for another tablet, I'm thinking:
Surface Pro 2
Surface 3
New Dell Venue Pro 8 5000
I've got an iPad mini 2, so a bigger screen would be nice.
Budget is about $400. Any feedback would be much appreciated!

hi guys i really want to try a windows 8 tablet and i plan to buy it either by the end of this month or by next January. I am confused on what to pick though
First of all, the reason why I want a windows 8 tablet IS because i like the interface. but more importantly, i need metatrader and cTrader in legacy app as im a full time forex trader. I have metatrader in my iphone but you cant seriously compare that with the windows version (no tabbing, no lines drawing, no fibonacci, etc.). cTrader doesnt even exist there.
im looking to replace my macbook pro (which btw i also installed windows 8 on it through parallels virtual desktop) with a windows 8 tablet to support my trading while im outside
So basically I dont need a super i7 tablet or something. However, im curious to know how windows 8 atom tablets perform. I have seen enough reviews and some people says atom tablets perform badly in legacy apps. Question is, how bad is that bad? Does it lag so bad even though i dont need to run heavy apps like adobe? I only need to run these trading apps which btw are very light. You can compare them with MS paint i believe, just with constant connection.
would it do well in atom tablets? I dont want lags when i switch from win8 native apps to metatrader and cTrader.
next question - how does windows 8 tablet on-screen keyboard work with legacy apps? Would i have special gesture to show up the on-screen keyboard or it automatically appears when i touch the screen? I personally dont believe ... Read more

I see a subject line which already asks this question in the knowledgebase, however I can't open the link so I'm asking this question as a duplicate, my apologies in advance..So, basically, is this possible?  I don't see any Win-7 drivers available for the TP Tablet 2.  I'm assuming that Windows 7 isn't supported then, unless I attempt to load the Win-8 drivers on a Win-7 install.I'm quite disappointed with the TP Tablet 2 running Windows 8.  The response times on anything from opening a webpage, changing to another webpage, opening apps, etc is very slow.  I was hoping that if Windows 7 was supported, then I might just get better performance with this tablet however it could just end up with the same performance for all I know.  I won't know until I try but I don't want to go through the install process just to find out that I don't have any driver support for Win-7. I'm thinking that I should have purchased a Helix... TBD... Any feedback would be appreciated, thank you!!!

Alright so I got a used IBM Thinkpad X41 from my uncle which had windows xp installed on it. He asked me to reformat it so his companys information and other data would be fully erased. Some specs on the X41:Does not have CD/DVD Drive so I can't install windows that way.Does have USB slots, so I think that will be the only way to install (correct me if I am wrong).  Me being a complete newbie, I full erased the hard drive (so there is no OS). The laptop still turns on but when i let it run it says: Media Test Failure, Check CableExiting Broadcom PXE ROMOperating System Not Found Luckily the Bios still works and I can access it but there is nothing I can do to restore it back to factory state or recover. The Bios does detect my usb drive and I have placed that in the number one spot for boot order. If there is anyway I can get an OS installed onto my pc I would be grateful. Note I don't need to install XP on the first install, If installing windows 98 or 95 will be faster and easier we can do that. I can take it from there as all I will need is the xp install files which i have copied from my cd to my computers share folders. Thanks again hopefully there is a solution to my problem, I'd really like to have this laptop for school as im going into grade 12.

I'm in the market for a new notebook, and I've really become enamored with the X200 tablet. Well, actually it was the X301 that first caught my eye, but it's just not fully-featured enough for me. Too bad, as I really liked the weight and the WXGA+ on a 13.3" display. Anyway, I'm a Windows applications developer, and I'm trying to determine the X200 tablet's suitability for my needs. As a programmer, I can always make use of additional display resolution, but I've simulated some WXGA screenshots on a 12.1" display, and I'm thinking it could work for me. I'd appreciate it if others could chime in here with what they use their own X200 tablet for on a regular basis and how well it performs and displays those tasks. Thanks.

Answer:What do you use your X200 tablet for?

Hi Rich, I use my X200 Tablet for everything and cannot say enough good things about it. I wear many hats right now Director of IT, Student, and believe or not I take it to church. I take my tablet everywhere! Currently I'm taken a Marketing class and DB design class and use it for notes and for MS Access running on windows 7 BETA. I have owned the all the X series tablets since the x41 which still run. Some of the problems I run into with DB design is the smaller screen but really it is not a huge factor because I'm in class when I'm at work I use the dock with 24" widescreen. I take my tablet to meetings, give presentations, and use it in place on my desktop. The only thing I would caution against is the process power for your type of development. For example it does not encode video as fast as a desktop but it can do it better than other notebooks in it's class. If you need speed and screen size try the W700 series with WACOM digitizer pad.  What I like most about the X series tablets is it's lightweight portability, performance, wireless options, and durability. I have download 50 eBooks, several text books, and read the electronic versions of eweek and love the annotate on them. If fact my wife makes fun me when I take it to the bathroom for reading materials. I can say that the tablet has changed the way I function in daily life. My wife is a Direct of IT as well and I finally got her to use a tablet with the same results.  The la... Read more

Hello, I was recently given a x200 tablet and was told that the screen supported both touch and stylus input. So far however I have only managed to get a response from the stylus. I'm running windows 7, Is there something that I'm missing or does this device only support the stylus? Any in site would be very much appreciated :}

Answer:Help with x200 tablet

Hi! I would first check if you indeed have a model that supports multitouch. Please go here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/partsLookup.page You'll then need to enter your machine type, which is a 4 digit code on the bottom of the laptop. Then enter the serial number (located right from the model type, it says something like S/N xxxxxx) and you will get a list of the components installed on your X200T. Try to identify the screen and post the resuts here. My 2 cents...

Question: X200 Tablet Help

Hi. I am having troubles with my lenovo x200 tablet running windows 7 32-bit.Last night it was working fine but this morning i turned it on and went into windows but i cannot log on because it goes to sleep automatically every 5 seconds or so. The 4 indicator lights are also flashing instead of staying still like the wireless and bluetooth indicator light if that makes a difference. Help is appreciated. Thank you in advance =)

Answer:X200 Tablet Help

It sounds like the notebook is low in power, either the battery has no charge or is not holding charge (old/defective). If it's plugged in  AC outlet already, then possibly computer hardware issue. Please refer to page 23 in the "Service and Troubleshooting Guide". You might need to have your unit serviced.

I am considering buying a Thinkpad Tablet. Of the available models the ones that come with a 2.13GHz processor are the two X200 models (NRS93GE and NRT9RGE). As far as I can see, as opposed to the X61 models, the thinkpad X200 tablet models do *not* come with a "digitizer pen".  Can one still use them to take notes? How does one write on them?

Answer:Pen for X200 tablet?

what is a tablet without the digitizer pen... the X200 tablet do have a digitizer pen.  http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170342459868 i think there is a picture of the x200 digitizer pen in the link provided.

I got a X200 Tablet Thinkpad through my old school because it was part of the requirements. And i want to reformat my thinkpad but when i bought the thinkpad, i got no OS disk with it. How can i reformat it? Any help? Thanks ;D

Which OS are you using on the X200t? There is the recovery partition on the hdd, which allows you to recover the system to the factory condition (which reinstalls the OS + driver), you can burn the recovery media from windows provided you have the usb dvd/cd burner or the ultrabase with the ultrabay dvd/cd burner.

I'm looking to buy an X200 tablet for school this fall, but I'm curious about the Trusted Platform Module (TPM).  I'm not a big fan of having TPM on my personal use equipment, thought I do see the advantages in a managed IT infrastructure.  According to the maintenance manual there are motherboards available both with and without the "security chip"/TPM feature, but purchasing one separately is a joke (US$1,400 or more) considering the cost of the base unit itself.  When customizing a unit on the Lenovo store there is no option for purchasing without a TPM.  The tacover.pmd document lists the TPM as being integrated into the ICH9M chip, which is the reason for needing a whole separate motherboard to get a unit without a TPM. Long story short, is it possible to have Lenovo build me a unit with a non-TPM motherboard? Thanks in advance.

Answer:X200 tablet available without TPM?

you can switch off the feature in the BIOS, it would probably cost the same regardless.... but unless you have a large order of some sort, these sort of things are not negotiable on a single build basis.

Assuming the specimens that failed were distributed across a broad range of users that weren't  in the vicinity of the same EMP then the law of quantities and percentages seems particularly visccious in this case. We purchase in lots of 25 and just sourced 75 hingers and 75 tablets and of varying Type's and didn't have a single DoA nor failure in the last  month. The reason we keep buying the most expensive laptop made is we know the quality can be assumed and the service can be assured, if you're geting bad service for any reason than expect swarms of assistance from the mod employees here determined to rectify your issues and ensure you choose Thinkpad for your next round of gear.

I've got an x200 tablet that doesn't do so well as a tablet.I've gotten everything from the dreaded blue screen when the pen is touched to it,  to it being totally unresponsive to pen input. Everything but the tablet issue seems to work fine. Hasn't been dropped, smashed or had any liquids poured on it. Also has (had?) an obnoxious amount of antivirus/spyware/ect. software.Downloaded every driver, went back to several restore points and even took it all the way back to its out of the box state with recovery disks.Took it into the tech/repair center at my university. They had it for three weeks and didn't know what to do with it either...It's still under warranty, but even if it's not somehow covered I'd much rather pay repair costs than buy a new computer. So what the heck do I do with it now? Send it back to the company? (Really resisting the urge to set it on fire.)

Answer:x200 not being much of a tablet

Which O/S are you running?   I have an X200T (7448-CTO) and, after about 1.5 years under Vista, it started to develop severe flakiness (e.g. frequent IE and Office app crashes) although the tablet functionality was still working OK.  I finally decided to bite the bullet and  install Windows 7 fresh (not an upgrade over Vista).  The process that Win7 uses is interesting in that it places the previous (Vista) Windows directory in something called Windows.old.   It does not reformat the drive nor does it delete any other directories on C:/.  That process worked great for me (NB was/is virus free) although, in your case, I wonder if it wouldn't be smarter to relocate all of your documents and settings (e.g. favorites, contacts) to another storage medium and, quite literally, reformat the entire hard drive before installing a new O/S.  After Win7 has completed, install the Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox and it will perform all of the driver upgrades which, in my case, went near flawlessly.   All of my peripheral worked right away including the tablet functionality.  I did have to recalibrate the pen/tablet and work through the handwriting recognition training, but those tasks are only tedious, not difficult.  The only small issue I had, initially, was a SmartAudio driver error which, somehow, fixed itself.    I know that some people have reported issues with Win7/Thinkpad compatibility, but I can only report a comp... Just received an old 4GB X200 tablet with Windows 10 Pro via eBay to use for browsing.   I've found it quite fast and love the keyboard.  Old tech, but better than a lot of newer equipment.  And at $79 delivered, no way to lose, and it is very similar to my favorite T420. As it uses a 2.5" HDD, i am thinking about switching to an SSD (as I have with my T420).  I understand that the X200 uses Sata 2 and was wondering how others have found performance when doing this with an X200. I've found no problems with drivers so far, but are there more desirable ones than the Microsoft ones in Windows 10 for graphics, etc.?

Hi all.
I am running into some trouble and would like to know if anyone here is having the same issue. Hopefully, I'm not the only one with a Thinkpad Tablet 2 here.
I went to update my tablet to Windows 10 yesterday and ran into a few problems. Windows 10 was not downloading correctly and I would get a Windows Update error. Finally, when I got up this morning the update was ready. However, I have now hit a new snag. Hence why I come to you good sirs.
When I click on the update icon on the system tray, it gives me an error. The screen states:
"Unfortunately, this PC is unable to run Windows 10."
"We're sorry to let you know that this PC can't upgrade to Windows 10 because one or more things are incompatible."
Then on the right, it states:
"Compatibility issue:
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator
The display manufacturer hasn't made your display compatible with Windows 10. Check with the manufacturer for support."
Here's a screenshot:
Can anyone tell me what I can do about this? I've already gone to Intel and Lenovo and updated everything they have and still nothing. Would mounting and running the ISO work? Would anyone even recommend that considering the warning about incompatibility?
Thanks in advance and I hope to hear from you all soon.

Hi all, I can see the drivers and some of the software support for Win7 64bit but after looking through some of the FAQ and online manuals I can not find a guide that details out in what order the drivers and other support software are to be reinstalled. Does one just install ThinkVantage and let it take over? Background:  This is a ThinkPad that was upgraded from 2 GB and maxed out to 8 GB and the user already tried to reinstall Windows and removed the diagnostic partition.  They managed to get everything working except that the touch screen would only work with the stylus and not finger touch.   So the assumption at this point is that a driver was installed in the wrong order or the wrong driver was installed. Best,A

Answer:Install 64 bit Windows 7 on ThinkPad x201 tablet

Hi all, Wow,  for a premium brand Lenovo's forums are next to useless.Does no one form Lenovo actually look around in here? I have been doing more research and it seems Lenovo has no procedure for replacing the OS except to make the us pay $50 USD more for a recovery disc.  If this is not the case please enlighten me as to where I can get this or provide a recipe for installing drivers without using the recovery disc.  If that is reallythe case then eMachines seems to provide better support than Lenovo. As it stands right now tomorrow I am going to contact my rep. at CDW-G to exchange this Lenovo x201 tablet for credit.Nowhere does it say that I have to buy additional software to use a system RAM upgrade. This is really a shame but I promise that if I have to do this I will never buy or recommend a Lenovo product to my customers again.

Question: x200 tablet BSOD

Every day, at least once, if not 2-3 times, my tablet blue screens with "Stop: 0x000000F4" I have not installed new software or hardware. The tablet is completely up to date according to Lenovo system update and Windows update (Vista 32 bit SP 2).  Since I purchased it in March it has been freezing on me and I have had to hard reboot at least a few times a week. Now I get the blue screens and it is making me want to throw my computer against a wall and go purchase a Macbook Pro.  Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem is?

Answer:x200 tablet BSOD

Could be a couple of items: 1) memory, 2) hard drive, 3) motherboardFor 1), I'd suggest getting a copy of memtest86+ from here: http://www.memtest.org/#downiso Create the boot media and let the program run for at least three complete passes. For 2), I would get a copy of PC Doctor for DOS from here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-69537 and run the Fixed Disk diagnostics. I have not personally used this version of PC Doctor but I have run the one for T4x, T2x, A3x and X2x systems and they all have a diagnostic for checking the hard drive. For 3), use the same PC Doctor for DOS diagnostic and run the Systemboard and CPU tests to verify your motherboard.

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate. Short story: The green power indicator (the (Z) light) will be on, but the computer is otherwise entirely unresponsive and is absolutely silent: the fan isn't running and CPU/processor isn't clicking away.  My only way of successfully interacting with it is by holding the power button to force a power-down.  Is this a hardware problem? Long story: Initially, I had a problem with sleep mode; when I would close my computer, it would go to sleep and when I reopened it, it would remain asleep.  The green moon light, indicating sleep mode, was on, but the computer was otherwise unresponsive.  Even holding the power button to force a power down was futile, unless I pressed the button within seconds of opening the notebook. Scanning the Internet lead to a lot of people having similar, but not exactly so, problems with their ThinkPads, but the popular solution (turning off hybrid sleep) did nothing, as it was already off.  I pressed the ThinkVantage button and downloaded whatever updates were available for that, and once the download was finished, I restarted my computer, which also installed a few Windows updates which had been waiting in the background.  Windows did its usual installation as it powered down, and as it restarted, the problems I described in the Short story version above began.  I've been stuck at this point ever since.  The RAM and hard drive appear to be undamaged.&... As GUI designers, the X200 tablet's ability to convert to a touch panel is a wonderful tool during client design and collaboration meetings. End users can experience and comment on GUI functionality first hand while all meeting participants simultaneously watch the action on a boardroom screen. To fully realize the experience however, we find the unit could benefit from a couple of wish list items: 1. When the display is rotated to tablet mode and angled to approx. 45°, effectively mimicking a touch panel, the constant torque swivel hinge does not provide enough resistance to the push of a finger. Although we have easily remedied this with a simple adjustable device that locks the display into position, it would be fantastic if Lenovo could incorporate this feature directly into the unit. Not only does locking the hinge at any angle provide a solid surface to accept finger touch input, but it also converts the tablet into a perfect drawing easel without requiring an additional stand. This arrangement is so convenient in fact, that we usually keep our X200's on our desks in this mode, and use software from http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/ for keyboard and mouse input from the desktop machines:  2. To effectively mimic a touchpanel GUI, the touch drivers need to accept both the push and release of the finger, i.e. by passing both the left click button down and button up events to the underlying application. These push and release events could then be used to dri... Read more

I have a client that uses SCCM '07 to deploy OS images to computers over the network. This seems to work great for the vast majority of systems that they have. Here's a quick run down of the problem: Computer information imported into SCCMDrivers imported into SCCM, NIC and HDD drivers added to boot image Task Sequence created and advertised to collection for OS deploymentPXE boot from the tablet works fine and even loads the WinPE imageRight at the point when the Task Sequences should show up, the system reboots automatically I suspect that there is a problem with the drivers being used in the boot image. Currently, they are using Intel(R) ESB2 SATA AHCI Controller drivers, version 8.2.4.1007 which is applicable to the Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller in use by the X200 Tablet. Two other versions (8.2.4.1005 and 8.2.4.1001) have also been tried without success. They will be purchasing more X200s very soon and need to have this problem solved quickly. Any thoughts?

Answer:X200 Tablet, OSD in SCCM '07

I had a similar issue yesterday.  This is due to a network driver needed in the boot image in addition to a Driver Package.  If you put your boot image into debug mode right now you will see that at about that time the device reboots the NIC flakes out.  Which is weird because it seems to have the right stuff to get that far.  But I imported the newest driver associated with the x200 from Lenovo and updated my x86 boot image and it worked great.

First question, how many processes your machine has. Click Ctrl+Shift+esc, then go to process tab, you will see how many processes your system has. You may like to disable something like Antivirus, Windows Defender, Diskeeper if you have. You should see a significant improvement by turn these 3 off.
