Keyboard types all the wrong letters etc. in Internet Explorer and other browsers

Question: Keyboard types all the wrong letters etc. in Internet Explorer and other browsers

When I try and type into Internet Explorer (or Google Chrome and Firefox) I don?t get the letter or symbol that I type.
For instance when I typed ?a? I got ?r? on screen and similarly ?w? gave ?t? and ?m? gave ?y?.
I then typed ?a? again and got ?u? on screen. When I kept
hitting ?a? I got ?u, I, o, [? which is of course part of a progression along a querty keyboard!
When I type into a ?Word? document the problem does not occur nor does it when I type into an email.
Things that I have tried:

I have run a full scan of my anti-virus software, Zone Alarm (which is up to date.)I have scanned with Spybot, which found a whole load of things that I treated.I have scanned with Malwarebytes but it did not pick up anything.I have run my registry software ?Regzooka?
None of these actions have cured the problem. What can I do to correct this?
I have Windows 7 with all of the latest updates downloaded.

IE version 11.0.9600.17041. Update version 11.0.7

Preferred Solution: Keyboard types all the wrong letters etc. in Internet Explorer and other browsers

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Keyboard types all the wrong letters etc. in Internet Explorer and other browsers

Hi,
1. close all open IE Windows.
2. Start>Programs>Accessories>system tools>Internet Explorer (noaddons)
this will start IE in noAddons....
If the problem disappears when running in no addons mode then it is being caused by one or more of your addons...since your other browsers are affected it is probably being caused by an addon that is common to all of your browsers...
Use the Tools>Manage Addons menu from IE to disable your Toolbar and BHO addons one at a time (restarting IE each time to see if disabling an addon fixes the issue)
or
Start>Control Panel>Action Center>Internet - will list any known malware or incompatible addons.
or
Start>Control Panel>Internet Options>Advanced tab, uncheck "enable third-party browser extensions".... restart IE for the full changes to take effect.
Start>Windows Update...... examine your optional updates lists for any driver updates (for your keyboard) and apply and install them.
You have a number of anti-virus programs installed on your computer...
You only need one.... having multiple av products installed will slow your computer and may cause errors....
Spybot S&D is not suitable for Win7 and higher... it uses black lists for url's and slows down the web browser considerable.
The AV products that you have installed are probably free versions, that do not have up-to-date malware lists... Consider purchasing a license from the AV vendor or
for more information about computer security, malware and how to protect yourself online visit.
Internet Safety and Security center
Possibly you have upgraded to Win7 from XP...(that's why you still have Spybot and two other AV products installed).... I would guess that the keyboard issues may be being caused by a rootkit infection inherited from your XP machine.... seek local professional
help to have your machine scanned.

Hello- After repairing my screen, Averatec returned my 5110P.Upon
return it has a keyboard problem. Averatec tells me that even though
the warranty ran out while in thier possession they cannot help me.

Here is the problem-

u types j
\ types nothing
d types x
f types nothing
g types v
j types u
x types f
v types g

Here are my attempted fixes-

1. NUM lock is off
2. HKEY_USERS/Default/Control panel/Keyboard has proper values
3. Updated drivers
4. Deleted/reinstalled drivers
5. Completly reinstalled OS (xp Pro) with start up disks

My Keyboard properties reads:

Japanese PS/2 Keyboard (106/109 Key)
Device type: Keyboards
Manufacturer: (Standard Keyboards)
Location: Plugged into Keyboard

If I go to Start/All Programs/Accessories/Accessibility/On-Screen
Keyboard, the on-screen keyboard types properly

The physical keyboard types the same whether in DOS or windows

I don't have an external keyboard, so I haven't tried that yet.

I believe the "Japanese" refers to manufacturer and not Language
because, I belive I have seen that keyboard for sale in systems that
are targeting english consumers.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions. Thanks much,
Brandon

Have you tried updating the driver?

If that doesn't work, you could try remapping your keyboard with a program called KeyTweak(http://webpages.charter.net/krumsick/)

Since new and under warranty, why not contact Dell? They should be able to help you and determine if it's just something as simple as having the wrong keyboard selected in language options or a hardware problem. If the hardware is the problem, they should fix or replace it.

I have an Acer Chromebook and recently spilled some water on it.  In my panic, I quickly wiped down the keyboard and all was still well and working.  I noticed then that whenever I tried to type anything, completely different letters or numbers or random symbols would show up.  I'm guessing that as I wiped down the keys and pressed them down at once, it did something to change the keyboard.  And to add to this problem, I can't even sign into my laptop as it's password protected, and I can't type my password in correctly.  Is this something that I can fix myself easily?

Hi linscrawf,

Here is an article with 2 ways of performing a powerwash before signing into Chrome. http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/27649

This should reset the device (removing any unsaved data) and any potential settings or key combo's that you may have it.

It still requires some keystrokes, but they shouldn't also intiate other keystrokes. If they are, or after performing the powerwash you still have this issue it would likely indicate that the liquid spill is affecting the circuity below and multiple keystrokes are being detected.

I hope this helps,Cory

I have the Gateway NE56R12u 15.6-Inch Laptop
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1

A few drops of water was spilled onto my keyboard (I don't think the water got down into the laptop... as far as I could tell the water landed on top of the keys, but I could be wrong) and when I went to clean it, I didn't think ahead and turn it off before cleaning up the spill. So many keys were pressed and now the keyboard is not functioning correctly. When I press the majority of the keys, they will either add other letters/symbols, or they will trigger Windows shortcuts.

As an example..
B = "B (it also brings up the right click menu) (this will also bring up this: symbol as well as times)
O = 7i7o0
L = *L{YK

M = HM

k= yk*

j = brings up googlechrome downloads

i = takes curser to the start of the text

The space key types b ' and brings up the right click menu.

7 brings up the "open file" shortcut

and so on

My T410 will do some crazy things, such as typing nothing when you type "e", then suddenly typing a string of numbers and letters, something like "6lsxcv8t". Other times, you might type in a letter or number and suddenly a strange screen will pop up.  Yet sometimes (such as now), the keyboard will work perfectly.   Any ideas?

Answer:T410 types wrong letters, but sometimes is just fine

i can type the correct letters by holding down the 'fn' key, as i am doing now.

when i saw that the switch to german didn't work,i set it back to english.

Apparently there is an easy fix for the above.
Just hold the "fn" key and the "numlock" key at the same time.
I did it, am I'm back to normal. (The keyboard, that is).
How it got screwed up in the first place???
Hope others see this and it works for them.

Often editors keep track of the overstrike/insert mode that was in effect when you edit a particular file. When you change it afterwards in a different program, the editor may set it back how it was last time you used the editor or even edited the current file. Usually there';s a different cursor depending on which mode is set. Are you getting overstrike when the insert cursor is showing? That would be strange for sure. I don't remember seeing anything like that. At least not for some time.

What editor or program are you using when you get this?

I'm not sure if this is the area of the forums to post this but, I have a problem with my laptop keyboard.

Sometimes when I press shift the buttons come out with wired letters.
Such as and E with an accent on it when I press shift and question mark.

Basically any symbols don't work. I try typing the @ sign and the number 3 will appear. I tried everything from function, alt, ctrl, shift and windows key + differnt combinations and nothing seems to work. The only way to make this stop is somehow to wait it out, or restart laptop.

Is there a way to stop this?

I am using vista Premium 64-bit.

Let me start by saying I LOVE THIS SITE. Most times I can do a search and find what I'm looking for.

This time it's not so easy.

I having a problem with my destop computer and it runs Windows XP.
Today, I started typing an email and each keystroke gets me Double Letters. Like when I type a.....I get aa. When I hit the backstroke key, both letters are erased.

I rebooted and this is what happened.

1st Floppy Disk Failure (80)

I hit F1 to proceed. Next

Unknown Flash Type
Boot From CD

**I hit enter and nothing happens. Puter sits for a minute.

Boot from CD

So, I start clicking my mouse.

Another minute goes by and finally everything starts to load.

I get to my login menu and type in my password -- its a simple "aa" so I only have to type the a.

I start up my email program and start an email and still "ddoouubblle lleetteerrs".

Everything else works fine.

So, I decide to disconnect my keyboard. I notice my keyboard cable has a big kink in the middle. I'm thinking this is probably the keyboard problem. ts 3 AM so I can't go get a new keyboard. On another note -- the spare keyboard that I've been keeping for 5 years in a box in the back of my closet isn't there. Funny how that happens.

So, tomorrow I'm going to get a new keyboard when a store opens.

However--- what about the other problems -- Floppy Disk Fail and the Boot from CD (delay) error.

I bought it not to long ago, and I've tried to get help from many sources. First, I contacted Logitech and they said that the USB connection was being blocked somehow by something, so they helped with that and they got it to work...for 10, maybe 15 minutes than it stopped working again. Then, I emailed them and after just about two days they said the computer was incompatible with the keyboard. So then I contacted Dell and the guy did remote access and it only worked for half an hour. I use this keyboard (or at least try) using it on my laptop for everything that mostly requires a keyboard, such as web browsing, writing informative blogs/articles, and etc. I've tried everything, from restarting the computer, putting it in another USB port, doing the connection utility, reinstalling the driver, and etc. The only thing I haven't tried is putting in new batteries because the batteries for the keyboard are brand new. The connection utility will only fix the problem for 2 - 5 minutes then it'll go back to it's old ways. Restarting the computer didn't help either because it still wouldn't do anything. I tried reinstalling the driver, but it's the same story as the Connection Utility.... The mouse works fine, but the keyboard doesn't.

Hello

I am working with a Satellite A100-083, Windows XP SP2. Since about one month ago following problem shows up from time to time:
While typing in my browser or email-programm (both are by Mozilla) my computer types the letters "uit" turns the capslock on and opens new browser windows (about:blank, which is my startpage config.).

Of course this sounds like having a virus, trojan or sth. like that but after running some different antispyware and antivirus software, without solving the problem and nowadays without finding infected files. I tried to find something about a trojan who acts like this in the internet - just topics with the problem but without solutions or defining the trojan (if it is one). Beside this the problem isn't there the whole time. Sometimes it doesn't happen for about 2 days and returns after that.

Now I am wondering if it could be affected by some other source.

Any ideas or similar cases?

Thank you.

Answer:Re: Satellite A100-083 - Keyboard types letters automatically

Hi unfun,

I don?t think it?s a virus problem. Why a virus should cause such an action?

At the moment for me it sounds like a keyboard malfunction and I would recommend testing another (external) keyboard. So you can make sure if the problem is software related or not. You can use an USB keyboard from your desktop computer to do this.

Check this!!!

Hi there,

I'm very concerned that I'm about to be forced to buy a new wireless keyboard for my iMac. The wireless keyboard has an issue where when I use certain keys, two letters will be typed. It's not random. The line of keys 1,q,a,z and 5,t,g,b are linked. When I type a 1, I get 15. When I type a t, I get qt. When I type g, I get ag. The 1qaz line always gets typed before the 5tgb line.

The power to the keyboard is working fine, as are all the other keys. I fear that since it's not just a sticky key or anything like that, that this might be an electrical problem and the keyboard is just dead now.

Is there anything I can do?

On Task Bar where it say EN, right click and Settings
(if not there, Control Panel - Region and Language - Keyboards and Languages - Change Keyboards)
Click Add - Find the appropriate keyboard in the list.
Change Default input language above to new language you have added

My mother's computer started having issues with the keyboard, recently. I'll say it how i see it, but obviously, i might be missing something.

When typing the letter q on the keyboard, "qt" comes up. w and e are fine, r types "re". This happens with two different keyboards. I brought by my (this) keyboard, and it worked fine, but i only tried for a minute. On her computer, i tried both a ps2 and usb keyboard (native for both, no adapters).

Right now, if i try to login, when i click on a user, it fills in the password field (as if there was a stuck key) and tells me the caps lock is on. Capslock button does turn it off, but it did not look like backspace was doing anything. The bios did not complain of a stuck button. Safe mode (i happened to try with networking) has the same issue. No issue using the keyboard before windows loads.

Using teamviewer from my computer to hers is tough. I can hit capslock with sometimes works, keys sometimes work and sometimes don't, if it types in two letters, i can use the mouse to highlight one (to overwrite) when continuing. With a lot of effort and time i can login. Clicking icons on the desktop does not work, from the start menu does.

I tried hitting the helper menu to get the on screen keyboard for logging on. The first time i tried, it came up and worked. Now the button doesn't do anything.

I went into Device Manager (early on, when i could still do things) and deleted the keyboard. It made me reboot, but didn't se... Read more

Just tried again via TeamViewer. I can delete in the password field, but it acts as if there is a stuck key. (This is different than the last time i tried.) This has been happening every other day for me recently where I will be typing and my keyboard will randomly start typing the wrong letters or pressing certain keys will open the menu bar, but my computer to sleep or just type completely random letters. I've googled it once before and found that I should change the settings in control panel > regional and language settings which worked for me once but lately it doesn't.

I've even purposely added a foreign language and then re added my normal one (UK) but hasn't helped, it was already on the proper settings anyway. The last two times it has happened was on the night and left my keyboard unplugged, the next day I plugged my keyboard back into the tower while the computer was still loading up and it has been working fine now and did the same again last night. I don't know why it does this? Also google suggested a FN key but my keyboard doesn't have one.

I got myself a Scorpion K9 two weeks ago and it was working perfectly. Yesterday it just suddenly began to type in wrong letters, such as "X" is now "GX", "K" is now "LD". The number "1" is now my shutdown button.

Things that I've tried:

Pressing FN+NUMLCK.
Removing my keyboard drivers.
Simple restart of the pc.
Sytem restore.

Please can you help me out?

Hi there,

I was working on a paper on my desktop when suddenly my e button and 5 button lost proper functionality.
Whenever I press the "e" button, it types 1e instead, and pressing the "5" button types y5. Holding either button down gives you 1eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee or y5555555555555, but pressing them repeatedly gives 1e1e1e or y5y5y5 for example.
This does not happen when I use the on-screen keyboard, as then e and 5 type normally by pressing the buttons with my mouse. I looked into language options and nothing has changed; I only have the US Keyboard. This typing happens in Windows Word, in Chrome, in start search and even command prompt. Also have Kaspersky running and I don't seem to have a virus. I have no idea why this suddenly started happening, but I'd like it go away ASAP so I can write my paper instead of it looking like som1ething lik1e this.

Any help would be appreciated!
EDIT: Okay, the problem went away by restarting my computer. But in case anybody knows why this happened, and to prevent it in the future, I'm sure people would like to know the answer (if there is one).

Answer:Keyboard types wrong character (not language issue)

Hi if it happens again try another keyboard. Could be the current one could be going bad.

I have been having with my keyboard Tecra A2;

when I type the key "e" I get this: 10:06 PM 7/27/2007;

when I type the key "a" I get 1za 1za 1za;

when I type "z" I get 1za 1ZA 1za and so on,

some keys are fine and I get the right letter. I already checked Regional settings and everything it is fine; I updated my BIOS and I did not work; I used CD's recovery and I did not work.
I went to Device manager and uninstalled keyboard driver and nothing; I reformatted my HDD drive and nothing; I have noticed that when I went to the BIOS and y tried to enable "FN" and I could not enable or disable; it is disable by default;
I tried FN+ F11 or F10 and I did nto work. What could it be?

Any help? Has anyone had the same problem?

Answer:Keyboard types wrong and weird characters on Tecra A2

Hi,

sounds like a serious hardware problem. You can try the following to check if just the internal keyboard is making some trouble or your machine is malfunctioning: just connect a external keyboard (ps2 or usb) and check if you got the same error.

But nowadays you should bring your machine to a local authorized service partner for a hardware checkup because I think that your keyboard is defective and the hardware components of your machine should be checked.

Here?s a link to find the nearest local service point:

Good luck

When I type a capitol "I" (i.e., shift i), nothing appears. I'm using an external keyboard at home, but really don't want to take it traveling.Any ideas?

I have an HP EliteBook8570p for several years. It has a full qwerty keyboard plus a separate number keyboard on the right of the qwerty keyboard. Just this week the keyboard function changed. Normally pressing the Number lock key (when lit) caused the number keyboard to type numbers instead of the direction arrows and home/end/pg up/ pg dn functions when the num lk was off. This was fine and it worked like this since new. Now pressing the Number lock key causes keys on the qwerty keyboard to type numbers. The u,I,o,j,k,l keys now type 4,5,6,1,2,3. It was not like this before.I was always able to type letters on the qwerty keyboard and numbers on the smaller number keyboard while the num lk key was selected and its light was on.I compared drivers and keyboard setting to another identical computer and they are the same. The other computer works the way I describe at the start. Also Function/Prnt Screen no longer copies the screen.Any ideas? Any help? Please and thank you

They all started to do random things like H might disconnect my Internet or it might Brighton the screen and I have tried every single thing I read about and nothing sometimes my keyboard works perfectly fine and sometimes it gets crazy, I scanned my laptop to see if it was a virus but nothing, I looked to see if it was the keyboard not working but the computer said that the devise was working perfectly fine. Answer:keyboard on laptop typing wrong letters

That is most likely a virus, you need to run a full scan with your antivirus and make sure it isn't compromised. I would also recommend you move this to the malware forum, then you will get it touch with people that are certified to help you with this.

I've been experiencing something VERY strange with my keyboard (M/S "Elite" split keyboard) and had assumed it was failing but today I happened to use it on a different machine and discovered that the keyboard is NOT the problem (I'm using it now connected to a notebook).

Here's what happens:

In certain apps (noticeably Outlook Express) the letter "i" seems to be problematic. When typing a word containing an "i", like "Chief", the word will often come out with the "i" and "e" transposed (no, it's NOT my typing) and, very often, after having typed all the letters of a word including an "i" - like "Michael" - the "m" will appear on the screen and then nothing else - even though I've struck all the letters - and after a split-second I'll see "Mchaeli" on the screen.

Also, after invoking All Caps, the first time I use the "i" key it's still lower case. Upon the second use, it's upper case as it should be. Then, after deactivating All Caps, the first time I hit "i" it's still upper case, even though it shouldn't be.

The upper case problem has now extended to "C" and "O", as well.

What could this be? I know it sounds strange, but I'm hoping someone out there has seen something like this.

TIA,

Jay Palmer

Did you set your keyboard language to US or UK.
Go into the control panel and click Regional and Language Options, click the Languages tab, click Details button, then check in the box to make sure English (United Kingdom) and under Keyboard you have United Kingdom. If this is what you prefer.

Ok, so I had Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2, but I wanted Professional because I heard it takes advantage of the dual core thing when Home doesn't, so I installed Windows XP Professional Media Center Edition 2005 and then upgraded to Service Pack 2. I didn't do anything on the computer before upgrading to Service pack 2, except register the computer and things, which I found out my problem. When entering my Email, instead of the @ sign coming up, the " sign came up.. here is a list of the keys that shouldn't be coming out when the button(s) is/are pressed(Note, I have an American Keyboard and an American copy of Windows):

Shift+2="
Shift+3=
Shift+`=
Shift+'[email protected]
Not this / but the other slash=#
Shift+Not this / but the other slash=~

Is there anything known to fix this? Because this is getting very annoying, and I just want my keyboard to be normal lol.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance,

Hi everyone, my laptop's keyboard recently started behaving oddly, e.g. when I try to type the letter 'p' a '*' appears. Same also true for the '/' key, when I press it a '+' appears.

This is probably something very simple, but I can't figure out what I've done. Numlock is off, stick keys are off and the language is set to my own. I'm using Windows 7 and it's a Sony Vaio laptop.

Many thanks in advance 😊

Answer:Keyboard on Sony Vaio laptop types the wrong symbol/letter etc.

Hold down the FN key and press Numlock key.
If this just started happening, then do a system restore to a time before this happened. You can also use an external USB Keyboard or the on screen keyboard and see if that has the same effect,
You can also go to the Sony Vaio drivers page Sony eSupport - Drivers & Software Updates - Select a Model and download the updated Touchpad and Chipset driver for your model.

I have a fairly new Desktop computer (Dell) and within a few months the keyboard seemed to 'stick'. When I would type emails on hotmail, or post comments on facebook etc.. letters would constantly not show up, even though I was typing them.

I originally though the keyboard was the problem. I bought a new one. Still happened. Decided to try out a keyboard from an older computer (which had never had problems) and that one did the same. I've tried 3 different keyboards, all do the same thing.

I also notice that while typing on Word, I have absolutely no problems at all. Seems to be whenever I'm on the internet.

If anyone has any ideas of what might be causing the problem as well as a possible solution it would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks

Hello,

I have a file on my web server with a ".SIS" extension (for example "http://myserver/test.sis").

This file has a binary content.

When a user tries to download this file, by entering URL "http://myserver/test.sis", Internet Explorer displays the content instead of prompting to save to disk.

How can I configure Internet Explorer to save ".SIS" files instead of displaying binary content ?

Thanks !!
James

Answer:Internet Explorer and downloading file types

I am fairly confident this is a client-side problem and not a server-side problem.

The two links below both work perfectly in Mozilla Firefox, (i.e. Firefox correctly prompts to save to disk).

http://myserver/test.sis
http://myserver/test.exe

The ".exe" link works in Internet Exporer (i.e. prompts to save), but the ".sis" link does Not work correctly in Internet Explorer (i.e. it shows binary content).

James

Hello!

On a brand new Satellite U400-22Z when pressing letters on the keyboard sometimes it types a space-character in addition to the letter pressed after the letter. for example when typing the word "test" it might look something like "te st" or "t est" or "tes t" (though if the problem appears, it allways inserts the space at the same place in a give word, so it would allways be "t est" if that word is typed more than once). the problem happens randomly, sometimes the problem does not appear for a whole session or day, sometimes it happens repeatedly after another. the probleam appears in multiple programs (ie explorer, firefox, word, even at user-login at startup!!)

I tried (after talking with toshiba support) a chip and bios update- didnt work/remove the problem. even after a complete roll-back to the original, pre-instaled/factory status using the HDD-recovery didnt work. it is very difficult to locate/pinpoint the problem to a certain programm since the problem might not appear for some days and then "strike" again...
I'm running vista home 32 on the notebook and since the bug appears even when using only the originaly installed software i dosent seem to be caused by anything than the original software...

Any help would be greatly apreciated!
Tankxs everyone!

Hello.

Since I read many related topics about font rendering in IE10, I give my personal feeling.

On my 1920*1080 DELL monitor, these are font rendering screenshots between IE10 and FF17.

IE screenshot :

FF screenshot :

See how IE10 fonts are blurry compared to FF. And this is why :

IE screenshot (700% zoom) :

FF screenshot (700% zoom) :

Under IE10, font smoothing is grey scaled. While FF uses a RGB scaled smoothing.

According to MS, it's voluntary. Why ? I hope it's a mistake on their part. If it were, do you think a patch would be produced in near future ?

Thanks

Edit : happy new year

Answer:Internet Explorer 10 vs other browsers

Hi timofort, welcome to the forums, try switching to "use software rendering instead of GPU" in Internet Options under Advanced tab, I tried and attached my results, the second snip after switching to software rendering. Happy New Year to you.

In the centre using IE8 and on the left using Firefox5.

I was having lots of trouble with my internet. A friend worked on my computer and installed firefox for my browser. I"m okay with that BUT my old IE keeps trying to start. For instance, I downloaded an IM and IE keeps starting and I can't the IM to work. The friend who worked on my computer disabled it but not completely. Please tell me how to keep IE from starting and how to get the firefox to take over. ThanksModerator Edit: Moved topic to more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

Answer:Internet Explorer And Firefox Browsers

I don't use FF. But in Opera, for instance, there is a setting "Make this my default browser", so try to find something similar in FF.

That said, some applications are so bundled with IE that IE must run when you try to use them. Your IM might be one of those.

You might also try telling the site you're visiting to see your browser as being FF rather than IE. Something along these lines should be in site preferences perhaps.

hello, I've been having this problem for a couple of days where my internet can only connect to explorer however it won't let me connect to any other browsers or programs...
I've done dozens of virus and malware scans and got rid of any viruses and ad ware
however I don't know how to fix my internet problem :/1

Answer:Can only connect to internet explorer but no other browsers

Could you please give a link to a source where I can learn about internet connecting to browsers or other programs?

Often a networking problem that affects some programs but not others is related to a firewall, but (obviously) I know nothing about this particular feature or service.

Hello all,

I don't really use internet explorer ( or as my dad calls it...internet exploder ahah ) a whole lot but bugs in general just irritate me sometimes.

I have no idea when this started ( again, I don't use IE a lot ) I run a completely updated Windows 8.1 (home?) edition operating system so the browser I take it should be fully updated already. I have tried opening it directly from the local directory for it and also running as an administrator and neither would make it open.

There is no error message and there is no direct indication in the processes currently running under task manager that shows that it has booted up and is just not responding.

I thought maybe I could uninstall it but... then I look under program and features and I didn't see any relative program to uninstall for it. I remember a few years back uninstalling like version six or seven under a xp operating machine but that was ages ago.

Any type of direction here would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

Answer:Internet Explorer does not open, but all other browsers do

Hello loveandpower, and welcome to Eight Forums.

If IE shows as being open from the icon on the taskbar, then double check to see if it may just be offscreen. If so, then you could just use an option in the tutorial below to get it back onscreen.
Offscreen Window - Move Back to Desktop - Windows 7 Help Forums
If IE is not actually open, then you might see if completely resetting IE may help.

Internet Explorer - Reset - Windows 7 Help Forums
Hope this helps,

I'm copying and pasting my original post from SevenForums:I am certain that my Internet problems are resultant from a virus that I had downloaded. A friend and I determined that the virus was a Sirefef variation. Whenever I try to connect to any website in any browser aside from Internet Explorer x64 (Chrome, Firefox), the page will not load, and in Chrome, I get the following:This webpage is not availableThe webpage at <any url here> might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address. Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. Firefox does not give any error message, aside from stating that it cannot connect to the webpage.I have run: MBAM (found some things; removed), TDSSKiller (found nothing), Microsoft Security Scanner (found some things; removed), and SUPERAntiSpyware (found nothing). When attempting to update, MBAM displays this error: I have tried "netsh winsock reset" and a few variations, and none have worked. My firewall seems to be bugged, but I do not know how to fix it. I think that this is a result of the virus.Sorry if this is lengthy or anything, but I'm sorta desperate to get this fixed. Thanks in advance!------So far, nothing has worked. I've been able to update MBAM, and it found a few extra things, but to no avail. I'm gonna burn the SP1 update to a disk and load it to see how that goes, but I'd rather not reset a bunch of things and have to update them.

Answer:No browsers work aside from Internet Explorer 64-bit

As you are being helped at another forum, I suggest you wait until that process is completed before posting about the same problem in another forum. Having multiple attempts to help you with the same problem can certainly lead to confusion on your part, duplication of effort by those attempting to help you, and most likely the suggestion of conflicting and mutually interfering, cross-purpose steps.
Consequently, I am closing this thread. If, after following the advice from the other forum, you still have problems, you may PM me or any other Moderator, and we will reopen this thread.

My Internet Explorer just started out of the blue to not load images on web pages. For example, when I go to www.cnn.com, I get an error message: "line 44", "Char 1", "error object expected", "code 0". It does this on most sites that have a lot of images (for example ESPN, etc.). I went to the Spywareinfo web site and somebody said I had the coolwebsearch infection. I downloaded cwshredder, spybot, adaware, and hijackthis and ran them all. I reposted my log and someone said it didn't appear I had the infection any longer. I then downloaded Mozilla , Opera, and Netscape because I thought it was a corrupt IE problem. Guess what, the same problems with loading the pages appeared in all browsers. I assumed then that is was a registry problem so went to the next step - reformat. I have now reformatted my hard drive (twice) hoping to restore the original settings and get the web pages to load right. However, to no avail it did not work. I get the same errors even on a fresh install without installing any other software, excet for my ATI video driver which is the latest out there. I am somewhat somputer savvy and this is driving me crazy. I can't understand why a re-install of WIN XP Pro would not fix the problem. It worked fine for 2 years up until a week ago. Has anybody ever heard of this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Ken

Answer:Internet Explorer (and all other browsers) won't work?

Download Hijackthis.
Save it to a folder on your hard drive.
Unzip the file.
Scan your machine, then click on Save Log.

Post a copy back here and someone will be happy to review it.

Don't make any changes until instructed to do so.

I would like to try another web browser to see if faster or easier than internet explorer or chrome.
I do not want one which requires various manipulations of my computer to delete completely, if I do not like it.
Years ago I tried opera and it seemed to latch on to my folders and took me ages to delete.
Something easy to install, use and delete.
Any suggestions please?

Hi,

I'm using Windows Vista basic on my laptop and in the past month, have had a lot of issues with internet explorer 7 and google chrome randomly freezing. The only way that I can resolve this problem is to reset the laptop. Both browsers crash at any time (not only during file downloads or watching videos). I updated and ran spybot with no improvement.

I would appreciate any helpful advice.

thanks

Hello,
Whenever I try to open in Internet Explorer on my desktop PC, I get the Unable to Display Page, but:
-- Firefox and other browsers works fine.
-- IE works fine on my other computers.

So, I have a good connection, my other computers and laptops work fine with IE, and all the other browsers work fine.

I've deleted temporary internet files, etc., ran Network Diagnostics and the Diagnostic Log says: IP Layer Diagnostic Corrupted IP routing table.

But wouldn't a Corrupted IP routing table affect ALL browsers?

How do I fix this?
Thank you.

For the past week around 2am, my internet browsers have been forcing me to restart since they stop working around 2 for some reason.

The text: res://ieframe.dll/dnserrordiagoff_webOC.htm# : appears before the addresses i type in or appears before the addresses after I clink a link on my favorites. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Not a firefox problem also. Firefox is working fine.
I've noticed other people have this problem. I'm now thinking maybe it is an internet explorer related problem becasue this has only been happening since I installed Internet Explorer on my computer last week after a like 2 year time of not having it.

I haven't used Internet Explorer in ages. It simply sits on my computer and is never used. I use firefox instead and routinely clear cache, and temp files with CCleaner. I have noticed before that when I select to clear all this stuff, it also removes a bunch of temp files from IE as well despite the fact I never use IE. I compared the number of files removed with the number in firefox and they're about the same amount. My question is, why does IE have all these temp files when I have never once used it?

Answer:Internet explorer temp files and other browsers

Suggest the next time you use Ccleaner to click on the condensed list of files deleted to be able to
view the files deleted by Ccleaner. You will likely be able to recognize the files by the description given.

Ran Malwarebytes - nope

Tried adding google as trusted site - nope

go to here and download 'Hijack This!'.
First make a folder on your computer in my documents called Hijackthis and then Unzip it to that folder.
Then doubleclick the Hijackthis.exe.
Click the "Scan" button, when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.
Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.
It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required,
so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

Hello,

It looks like both Internet Explorer and Firefox have been hijacked in my computer. Everytime I search for something in google and click on one of the results I get redirected to different sites (happili.com, click.get-answers-fast.com). I've followed the steps in READ&RUN ME FIRST.
My antivirus (Symantec) does not detect anything after a full scan.

I am attaching both the TDSSkiller log and the MBRcheck log.

Thank you so much.

Answer:hijacked browsers - Internet explorer and firefox

logs hijacked browsers - Internet explorer and firefox

I apologize for not attaching all the logs before.

I've run all the tools now and I still get redirected when performing searches using Firefox.
It looks like the problem is solved for Internet Explorer, at least for now.

Had problems running the SUPERAntiSpyware first, even after renaming to SAS.EXE. Kept receiving the message "This application has failed to star because WINSPOOL.DRV was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." The portable version did not work either.

I ran Malwarebytes, combofix, and MGtools, and then tried again with Superantispyware. It ran correctly this time but found no threats, although as I said I am still having problems.

All files are attached. Thank you very very much.

I have windows 7 on a laptop that I am currently experiencing a lot of problems with. I was away for about 10 months and when I get home and use laptop to go online the browsers (chrome, ie, opera) all say that I'm not connected to internet. I pulled up a DOS prompt and am able to ping by both IP address and domain name. I try to open windows explorer and see it's icon pop up on the task bar but the application never appears/becomes accessible. I don't seem to be able to use dvd drive or flash drives either. I would like to format my HD and reinstall windows but

1. there are some files I need to back up
2. the OS was pre-installed so i don't have a win 7 disk

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Bryant

Answer:Have internet but browsers don't work. Windows Explorer not working

Try windows explorer and flash drives in Safe Mode (hit F8). If it works, back up your files first thing. And if it works, you should be able to repair the install.

You can also go to Repair Your Computer at boot and try system restore or last good configuration.

To Reset to factory, you should be able to access the Restore Partition. How to do that varies among makers.

Accidentally closing webpages in Internet Explorer you really didn't want to close, can be a pain.
With Open Last Closed Tab, you can re-open those closed tabs by hitting Alt-X or by selecting the page in the toolbar list of previously closed tabs. The newly added Quick Tab Style View, displayed when you hit Alt-Q, shows you thumbnails of the previous tabs you've closed with filtering support to visually identify pages you want to re-open.
For other browsers please click HERE.

Answer:How To re-open last closed tabs in Internet Explorer & other Browsers

CTRL + SHIFT + T also works best on all browsers.

Hello. I am having an issue with Windows 7's Internet Explorer 9 (or version 10 too -- I tried what I am going to say here too without any difference to version 9) and Maxthon web browser.

Simply, when I click on many hyperlinks of most websites' webpages or even clicking on any on of Internet Explorer's "Favorites" folder's weblinks, I get AT THE SAME TIME both Internet Explorer and Maxthon web browsers opening at the same time, usually Maxthon web browser opening a fraction of a second faster. The Maxthon web browser never opens the webpage and Maxthon web screen area remains white. Internet Explorer does indeed open the webpage. Internet Exlorer is my default web browser. So I have to close each time the Maxthon web browser. I do use both web browsers at times.

Now, this issue had happened since I upgraded Maxthon to version 4 (Maxthon Cloud Browser) from the previous version 3 (known as Maxthon Browser).

I have some questions with my issue (Please explain each, especially the last one.):
1. What is going on?
2. Why is it happening?
3. What is the solution?

Please reply.

Thank you!
