How do I keep the internal sound going but the external sound off?

Question: How do I keep the internal sound going but the external sound off?

I call radio programs and I record them by playing a software that records the sound. Now when im on the phone I want to turn off the sound externally so its not playing in the background while im on the phone. But I dont want the sound to be off internally so that it can be recorded. Before u say it cant be done, i had a Toshiba labtop that did this. You can keep the sound going internally but extrenally it let you turn it off....now i have a new labtop...and it does not allow that.

I know you can plug in something to the headphone jack and thats better then nothing....but...obviously just pressing a button is more practical...plus...i assume if u keep putting something in the headphone jack over and over and over that there is wear and tear on that jack waters

I know on a desktop u can just have speakers already plugged in and turn them off but this is for labtop

Preferred Solution: How do I keep the internal sound going but the external sound off?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi I bought a E470 Thinkpad with windows 10 ~2 months ago. The computer has been sitting idle for the last month (in sleep mode) and when I started it today I have an issue where the internal speakers wont output any sound. However connecting headphones or other external devices lets me outout audio (through said device). I've looked through various topics online (non-lenoveo related). The most common issues people have are the following:-Speakers are disabled / not selected as default device  *Pretty confedent this isn't my problem as everythin seems fine in the audio properties/settings-The driver is broken and needs reinstallation / replacement  *I have reinstalled the driver "Conexant Smartaudio HD", same problem after restart  *I have replaced the driver with the "High Definition Audio Device", same problem after restart-There's a sensor in the mini-jack socket whats faulty leading the computer to believe headphones are connected  *I don't know the correct way to go about diagnosing this, but several users on another forum fixed the issue (on different computers) by "poking around" with a toothpick in the audio jack.  Other observations / useful info:The computer does not appear to "know" that there is an issue with the audio. The internal speakers are not disabled, in able to adjust the volume bar. When I connect an external speaker / headphones a dialog box appears where I can chose between Headphones, Headset and Speaker. For th... Read more

Dell dimension e520 running win xp

there is no computer sound when pc shuts down and can't get
sound on external speaker.

Please help

Answer:No internal or external speaker sound

first go to control panel and check the audio option of your computer and see if the computer recognizes a sound card.

after clicking audio go ahead and check the settings. if everything is grayed out it means you don't have sound card installed, you need to check device manager and see if you have your sound card there and if see if it's installed with the correct driver.

check also if the external speakers are connected to the right audio port at the back of pc.

hope this helps!

The soundcard on my toshiba p-50 satellite stopped working, therefore i can't use my internal speakers or audio jack. I purchased a usb audio jack so i could use my headphones but i'm still unable to use my internal speakers. I was thinking maybe an external sound card could do the trick, I'm not sure. Any suggestion on how I could use my internal speakers without having to go through the trouble of replacing the broken soundcard?

Answer:How to use internal speakers with a external sound

I can't think of any way of connecting internal speakers to an external soundcard as far as I'm aware they're hard wired to the internal soundcard and if that's gone they're not getting any signal and without popping the case and rewiring them that's how they'll stay. If anybody knows otherwise please say.
I'd be tempted to try a cheap compact Bluetooth speaker or combine the USB audio jack with some clip on speakers.

Hello,

I hope someone here can solve this problem because I'm at my wits end.

I installed a Microsoft headset called "LifeChat LX-3000" with a built in microphone. I only want to use it to make online videos for my business. Everything worked fine until I unplugged the headset. I can't get any sound at all from my computer. The internal speakers and external speakers give me no sound. The only way I can hear anything is by wearing the headset. I finally gave up and uninstalled the headset, but I still can't get any sound.

Any suggestions?? Why in the world can't I get my sound back??

Answer:[SOLVED] No Sound Through Internal or External Speakers

First, I am assuming that you still have your speakers hooked up the female mini pin that is green.

Second, go to
Start > Control Panel > Sound and Audio Device properties

3. Click on audio tab. Default device listed should be your onboard audio or sound card. If is not selected, select it and hit apply. If nothing is in the selection box, you may have to reinstall or re-enable your audio device.

4. Click on volume tab. Make sure mute is not selected.

My laptop's internal speakers recently went straight from normal to no sound whatever (from any source), while the volume level still fluctuates as expected in the System Tray Volume Mixer. External speakers work fine. Is this a simple case of the internal ones giving up the ghost? (The laptop is 6 years old).

Greetings!

The headphone jack on my Sony Vaio notebook has a "loose contact" and it is no longer possible to listen with headphones. So I bought a USB sound card and plugged it in. That works fine when you are listening through the headphones but the card seems to hijack the whole sound system. It installs itself as THE sound card and the original card is disabled. If I boot up the machine with the USB card it automatically installs itself (logical enough). If I then want to just briefly listen to a file without searching for my headphones it is not possible. The internal speakers are not running through the USB sound card. If I go into the Control Center and change the sound card under "Audio" I can then listen through the internal speakers. But this is a real pain. I tried using Device Manager and the Audio in Control Center to see if I could re-route the internal speakers through the USB card but I couldn't even locate them let alone re-route them. If anyone out there knows how to do this I would appreciate the tip. Maybe it's just not possible. One or the other.

If I bought a PCMCIA Soundblaster card would I have the same problem?

Thanks,

Dave

I just reloaded a laptop with XP SP2. After reload, my laptop internal and external speakers don't produce any sound. I loaded the driver from the laptop manufacturers website. And everything appears to be set correctly and working from a systems view. However - no sound from PC on boot, application, or cd or dvd play.

In Control Panel/Sound and Audio
Hardware tab - Windows says the hardware is working OK
Volume tab - All mute buttons are off/unchecked. Volume is high on all componets - PC Speaker etc.

I've also removed the driver and reloaded it. still nothing.

Is there anything else I should try? I doubt it is the motherboard.....

Answer:No sound from internal or external speakers after XP reload on laptop

It may not be the correct driver. There are some cases that the OS wopuld not report any abnormalities but the driver may not be the exact driver you need. Identify the sound device you need ( you can use unknown device identifier for that ) and download the apropriate driver.

Also check the microphone socket incase something got stuck in there.

Hey guys and gals, I'm a newb on here so be nice.
So... two problems.
First. I have an advent 9117 Vista 1gb Ram laptop that sound has been off for ages. Specifically, the realtek high definition audio drivers seem to be a-okay in device manager and everywhere but when playing a sound through the internal speakers or plugging in headphones/speakers it gives the same result, only a left signal which is quiet and very distorted. I've been through a lot of trying to fix this today with no luck on anything. Computer says everything is dandy.
Second. Because of this, I got a USB Multi Channel Audio Device off Amazon made by Digiflex, £10 on Amazon which has been working fine for a long while. Then last night was cool, this morning nothing. Now, I have restored windows to a few days before, updated drivers, uninstalled, blah blah blah, everything I can find online. At first I was getting an error code in Device Manager of Code 10... but now everything is fine in device manager but still no sound from the computer coming out. What is weird is that I can hear sound through it via the line in and the computer recognises it as audio coming in. But when I go to listen to test the sound, it gives me a flash of level but no sound from anything internalwise.
Any thoughts?

Answer:Internal and external sound problems? Windows Vista.

Laptops are paia where sound is concerned.
Could be something stupid like you have caught the hardware sound buttons and muted it.

Installed a Creative Soundblaster card and it automatically disables the onboard sound and when looking on recording devices Realtek doesn't show. Can I go into the BIOS screen and re-enable onboard audio (providing it allows me to) and will the Realtek HD Audio once again appear in recording devices along with the "what you hear" option the Soundblaster sets up when installing the soundcard ?  Basically, can you have both Realtek and Soundblaster show in recording devices at the same time and have the option to disable one when your not using it ?
The sound card I'm using is the Soundblaster Audigy RX 7.1.
Thanks for any help

I am getting a laptop. Right now I am deciding between regular "High Definition Audio 2.0" and a "ExpressCard Sound Blaster X-Fi Laptop Sound Card with Wireless Receiver Bundle". The latter is 134 dollars more. Would the latter make the output of sound better on external speakers. Say if you're a DJ, and you use the laptop, would the sound coming out of the speakers at those high volumes be much better if you have the better soundcard? Or does it not have any effect on the output sounds? Thanks!

Answer:Do Sound Cards Effect The Output of Sound To External Speakers?

It affects the external output even more than the one from the integrated speakers.

Hey guys,
I just recently bought a Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit external sound card to connect my 5.1 speaker set into. I plug the Sound Blaster into my laptop which runs Windows Vista Business.
I have been able to get all the speakers working with the Windows drivers installed using the "Virtual Sound" option (Control Panel -> Sound -> Speakers -> Enhancements.) Windows tests all speakers correctly also.
However, when I install the updated Creative drivers it will continue to use only 2 speakers even with DVD's etc... even though Windows understands I am using 5.1
I would just leave it without the Creative drivers, however I need them in order to record audio properly through its inputs.
Has anyone else encountered this, or know how to fix this? Damn Vista always causing problems
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Bruce

My audio from the laptop speakers seems to sound good, but when I plug the laptop into my home sound system, my music sounds very basse and distorted.

The same with the codecs, or do I have too many? IMA ADPCM Audio Codec

The Conexant HD Audio Sound Driver was replace by High Definition Audio Device after i update to Windows 10 Home Version 1511 from 1011

Now if i want to plug my earphones to the left side of the computer where the audio jack socket is located the sound does not transfer to my earphones except i will change the default sound device from speakers to headphones.
How can i set it to automatically when i plugin my headphones/earphones/external speaker automatically transfer the sound to this device without changing the settings?

And also SmartAudio in the Control Panel is not working ether it says "Failed To Initialize SmartAudio The Application will now exit" Error message.

How can i fix this?

Answer:Sound does not transfer to the External Sound devices Automatically

The first thing that needs to be done is get the correct sound driver from Toshiba. If it came with Windows 8.1, the 8.1 driver is valid for Win 10. If it came with Windows 7, install the Win 7 driver in a Win 7 compatibility mode (what I did on my Toshiba Satellite) to get it working.

The "High Definition Audio" driver is a generic, basic function, Windows installed sound driver.

First, let me say that I am a sound novice! I recently started a vinyl ripping project. My onboard sound does not support 24 bit depth recording at 96 kHz sampling rate, so I purchased an external USB card with phono preamp. It works just fine for my project. But as long as external sound card is plugged into a USB port, it takes control of all sound. I'd like to be able to toggle back to my onboard audio when I'm not ripping vinyl so I can listen through my system speakers. I have experimented with Windows audio controls, but have not found a way to do this. Is it possible?

I'm looking to connect my W520 to a tv for watching movies. The video is all set up with a DP to HDMI adapter directly from the laptop to the tv. The sound, however, must pass through a receiver first. The receiver only has RCA inputs - it's quite old. I know the hypothetical setup would definitely work because I have a cable tv set top box connected that way. What's missing is an external sound card that is:- compatible with the w520- capable of outputting 5.1 surround sound- capable of connecting via RCA, be it through an adapter or notCan anyone recommend a reliable external sound card for the job?

I have a GA-EX58-UD3R Rev 1.6 mobo in a PC connected to a Samsung PS63C7000 3D TV via HDMI and by Stereo Analogue, Coax and Optical to a Yamaha RX-V567 receiver/amplifier.

The mobo runs the Realtek audio system supplied with the mobo, which has 5.1 Analogue outputs, coax and Optical out.

On the receiver I match the HDMI input to one of three Audio inputs; Analogue (AV5), Optical (AV4) or Coax (AV3). Sound only comes out of the Analogue connection, which is stereo only.

When I look at the sound on the PC it appears that a signal is being sent to the receiver. (through a spectrum analyser)

I tried reinstalling the sound drivers for the mobo, with no luck. I don't have a spare sound card with Optical. I tried replacing both the optical and coax cables.

When I plug the PC into a set of PC speakers it works fine.

I saw this post .. digital sound issue, but I had already made sure only one sound option was connected at any one time.

oh, I am running Win7 x64 Ult.

Any ideas?

Answer:No digital sound out of external sound system

There can be issues with sound output when you are using HDMI sound. In MOST cases when you use the HDMI sound it is set as the default playback device and thus the PC's sound card (or integrated audio) output is muted. Normally you can't have both, one or the other.

If you disconnect the cable for HDMI, at the PC, and select whatever you want for default playback device in the Sound Panel, do you get the S/PDIF or whatever other sound you want?

I've got both front and back jacks, neither seems to have an effect.

It does, however, seem to be affected by my volume level.

Hey guys. I want to be able to record stereo sound using Audacity. I know how to do it on XP, but can't on Windows 7. Currently in Audacity I can record sound from my mic, but not stereo. Can anybody help?

EDIT//
For anyone else with this problem, I found the solution.

Go to the "Sound" console in the control panel.

Switch to "recording" tab.

It should have something like "microphone", "microphone array", and "rec. playback". The last one is your sound card. Just set that as the default device under the recording tab.

Now Audacity should record system sounds.

Answer:Recording Internal Sound

I'm not really sure but I think there's a Stereo Mixer option somewhere in the sound settings. It should allow you to record what you hear. I'll check if I can find it.

Answer:New internal sound card

Windows, by default, will only use one chipset for all audio.

Some media players will allow you to select the destination (ie: audio chipset) in their configuration. If either of your media players has that option (in the audio configuration of the media player), then use that player to select the non-default audio chipset.

So, I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate. Now, everything is running smooth, except I have not sound coming from my internal speakers. I tried going here, Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers , to which I saw that my HP Compaq DC 7800 needs troubleshooting. I right click to do troubleshooting and it finds that I need PCI Simple Communications Controller as well as the PCI Serial Port. I tried to install the fixes and that was no luck! Now my question is... What in heavens do I do? I really miss listening to my music every morning.

Answer:Help? No Sound from Internal Speakers!

This is your computer?
You installed the 32bit or 64bit version?

HP Compaq dc7800 Convertible Minitower PC

And you've gone to this page?

HP Compaq dc7800 Convertible Minitower PC*-* Download drivers and software - HP Business Support Center

Win 7 Ultimate wasn't listed so I followed the links from Win 7 Professional (32-bit).
The index page is here.
HP Compaq dc7800 Convertible Minitower PC*-* Download drivers and software - HP Business Support Center

It looks like the first two upgrades for Win7 are BIOS and Chipset drivers and that sounds to me like a good place to start as both of these will help Windows 7 correctly identify the hardware on your computer.

I would first install the chipset drivers which are basically inf files that correctly describe the hardware configuration. A BIOS upgrade is a little more tricky if you've never done one before, I would visit the Hardware & Devices sction of this forum and post a question (re: BIOS Upgrade) there.

Don't know if there's an easy fix as it looks like a couple of things need to be updated first.
Go for the chipset drivers and see if Win 7 recognizes your hardware.

Also, one other question... did you install Windows 7 over the top of your previous operating system or did you wipe (format) the drive and do a fresh install.

I have installed Win 7 on a thinkpad that had XP on.  The xp hard drive crashed so I upgraded the hard drive and installed Win 7 but I do not get any sound from the internal speakers.  I believe I have downloaded all the drivers I can find but still no sound.  The head set is the only way I can get sound.  What do I do??

Answer:No sound from internal speakers

Hi and welcome to the forum!

What is 7 character product number of your ThinkPad? It looks like 2668-KHU and can be found on the back sticker.

First off I guess I'd like to say hey, just found the board and hoping it's freindly... Not sure if this was the best place to bug people about case mods etc., but I thought I'd hang out for a while anyway...

okay my mobo supports this my case supports this. I'm looking for a Intel header type ( :::. ) USB1 to dual front case usb cable and a FP_AUD10 ( :::.: ) to front case speaker/mic cable.

I have everything onboard to do this with and a front panel usb/speaker port.

Everything is set up I just need the cables and any mounting hardware. I'm looking all over and all I can find are internal hubs and crap like that, I just need a regular intel header dual usb cable and a friggin audio patch here.

Anyone know where I can hook these up? Didn't expect this to be such a pain in the *** ya know?
_________________

I guess the major problem I'm having is my case has the front panel usb set up like this

****______
usb1|_____|
usb2|_____|

the two usbs have a shared ground, so i need a stacked blank usb input to a intel 9 pin adapter, hell I'd take a 10 pin if i could find it and cross the ground over, I just can't find any usb's that are stacked like this except for the ones stuck to the back of my mobo, and I'd rather not rip it apart just to hook my controller up to the front

TIA

Answer:Looking for internal usb/sound ports.

Sounds like you may need to create this cable/patch yourself. I cant think off the top of my head of a company that makes a cable like that.

Hello,  We just purchased ( 7 days back) a Thinkpad E420series laptop. This came without the OS pre-installed. So I installed the OS( Windows 7 ultimate) and then through the Lenovo software updater , installed all the drivers.  Now, the problem we are facing is - this machine refuses to play any sound through the internal speakers. I hear no beeps too when the laptop starts.  However, if I plug in the headphones, I hear the sound only via the headphones. The system recognises when the headphones are plugged and unplugged.  The drivers installed are the Conexant 20672 Smart Audio HD drivers version 8.32.27.00.  The only surprising part is that if I play any music the volume control in the tray when expanded to move the slider shows the green bar moving up and down as it would normally do when the sound is being played - only , here there is no sound.   Kindly assist me in resolving this.

Did it just stop working? did it work before?
if so you could always roll back driver if a new one was installed and check your windows update if you have it turned on automaticly then it may have downloaded a bad up date lol you never know
if these answers never helped the only thing i would say to do is check your sound card and see if it is working properly even though the headphones work it still may be a problem

sorry i couldn't be of much help but i hope the little thigns i gave did some good

Cheers all,

Problem is as stated in the thread; I downloaded, untar'd and set the theme up today. I know it's specifically the "Close Window" sound since it's unique from the others. I'm referring to the following actions in particular (there may be more things I could do to proc it, but I haven't checked yet)...
Opening a Program
Opening a Folder in Windows Explorer
Starting a new Windows Explorer Session
Closing a Window (expected function)
Closing a Windows Explorer Session (expected function)
Those not followed by (expected function) have a different sound assigned to them, although the Close Window sound plays anyways. Not always immediately after the action is performed, either - there can be anywhere from a 1 to 15 second delay before the .wav plays.

The sounds are located in C:\Windows\Media\AltimitOS\ with AltimitOS being a custom folder I copied in. I originally untar'd everything to the desktop, then created and moved everything into the folder and tried running the theme from there. I've made sure all file paths are leading to the \Media\AltimitOS folder.

Any help is appreciated. Cheers,
-Kalts.

For a few months now, my computer has started overheating for some reason (even though I haven't done anything unusual that could cause it). Whenever this happens, it makes this ear-shattering, shrieking, continuous "BEEEEEP" noise (internally, not from the speakers) for about 15-30 minutes. This cycles on and off about once an hour. Is there ANY way I can disable this, other than the obvious answer of stopping the overheating problem? I'm broke at the moment so any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Is it accurate to say that usb headphones do not use computer internal sound cards, but instead have their own built in sound cards?

Yes thats right. they have built-in dac or so called soundcard in their usb circuitry. I'd go with usb headphone unless the price difference is significant or I have better soundcard installed.

One or the other.I was also wondering if I would have the same problem if I bought a PCMCIA Sound Card? Thanks, Dave

Answer:USB Sound Card / Internal Speakers

Answer:No sound from internal speakers y580

hi superemcg,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

If your computer plays sound using a headphone jack the it means that your computer is not on mute or in a wrong setting.
After you re-installed the right drivers

Realtek Audio Driver Windows 80pau05w8.exe116MB

Realtek Audio Driver Windows 70pau08ww.exe83.3MB

and played an audio and it played on your headphone jack and not on internal speakers Its a Hardware Problem.
You can check the sound properties with out a headphone in and see if the Internal speakers are being used
and it is not disabled
Spoiler (Highlight to read)
and the Indicator on the right hand is showing sound level moving when playing an Audio.

You can also Try doing this.
Remove the battery and then disconnect the AC adapter if connected.- Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds then release it.
- Reinsert the battery and then reconnect the AC adapter.
- Turn on the computer.

If it is still the same then I would confirm this to be a Hardware Problem.
You will need to send the unit in for service. Support phone list here.
Hope this helps,

CTO HP Pavilion dv8000 (with Media Center) XP
For some time, I've had sound from headphone jack but not from internal speakers, though when I take out the headphones, for half a second, the music continues through the speaker. HP help told me to reinstall the operating system (XP) which I was not willing to do, as I wasn't sure they knew what they were talking about (again--I've had ill experience here). So when I saw some issues here that sounded similar to mine (turn off digital output--SPDIF), I contacted them again. They determined (likely from some far away place--the grammar and spelling weren't very good, though they were very polite) that it is a hardware issue. I am loathe to send this thing away into the black hole of HP repair. The posts I read here usually had to do with VISTA, but I have XP and couldn't figure out how to do the same thing in XP (SPDIF). Any help would be great. Without some software fix, I'm liable to limp along using headphones and external speaker systems.

it seems like everyone's solution to re-install Windows... easy way out i think... but really... is it worth trying to get these speakers to work? are they very good? you can easily buy external speakers, cheap and they work fine is there anything wrong with external speakers? like you say, its really no point to in sending it away... dunno... don't just take my advice though....

Hello, I just bought an ASUS Xonar D1 PCI audio card (Vista certified) to activate and enjoy the HTPC features of my computer. Before physically installing the new card I tried to disable on-board sound in BIOS. Unfortunately, the BIOS did not have any of the expected choices in the Advanced/Audio section.  The only audio choice I had was to disable "HDA Controller". I experimented later with this choice both enabled and disabled but without success. Since I couldn't do much of anything in BIOS, I disabled the current sound choices in Device Manager, then proceeded with the physical installation of the new internal sound card. I removed the existing modem card from the PCI slot and had no problem installing the Xonar D1 in the same PCI slot and loading the Xonar software.   Apparently the new card was recognized, but playback through any and all applications was at about half speed.   For the next few hours I experimented with the Xonar software, Vista's Control Panel adjustments, the one BIOS choice and uninstalling and re-installing the new card with endless variations to the above. Maybe the new card is bad, but I have no way of testing it. I would really appreciate any suggestions: Did I follow the right procedures? Is it possible to disable integrated sound in Idea Center BIOS?Has anyone successfully installed a new sound card in Idea Center?  Thanks, Specs: Lenovo Idea Center K210 57076161Memory: ... Hi, I have a problem where the internal speakers on my T61 don't produce any sound.  If I plug in headphones I get fine sound, it's just the speakers that don't work.  I've checked all the volume control settings to ensure that nothing is muted.  I've also downloaded and burned the PC Doctor bootable CD image for the T61.  Running the speakers test from inside PC Doctor doesn't produce sound at any frequency. Also, if I am listening to my headphones, the computer *does* produce a beep on shutdown, but the same beep does not occur on the internal speakers if my headphones are unplugged. Any ideas for further troubleshooting?  If I have to replace my speakers, is that something I can do myself?  Where can I order them and how much will it cost?

I'm having a problem with my sound card. I got a new sound card, installed a new OS (Win2k) and now I can't disable my onboard sound. It doesn't show up in the BIOS and everytime I remove it through device manager, Windows finds new Hardware

The card is CMI8330/C3D Audio Adapter

And it finds itself FOUR times. (ie. in device manager it looks like this:

?Other Devices

?CMI8330/C3D
?CMI8330/C3D
?CMI8330/C3D
?CMI8330/C3D

This problem is causing significant lag and my new card sounds like the matrix buzz when they come out of the matrix and in.

Answer:New SOund card. Need help disabling the internal one...

There should be a way to disable it in BIOS-- keep looking. If you can't disable it there, Windows will continue to detect it. If that's indeed the case, you could try disabling it in Device Manager rather than removing it.

Hi,I  bought an IDEAPAD Z510 on July 19th 2014. I have the same problem. No sound from internal speakers - only from headphones . This has happened after disconnecting headphones. I read a forum post which suggested that the problem could be due to malfunction of the internal mechanism of the headphone socket . The internal mechanism of socket often does not come back to original position after the headphone is removed to restore speaker function. I suspect that is the problem. Request Lenovo to help rectify this manufacturing fault.

Answer:No sound from internal speakers - only from headphones

It could be the problem which you mentioned in your post. However, have you checked what is the default playback device selected in your Sound control? To do this, 1) Right click on the volume icon in the Taskbar on the bottom right side of the screen.2) Click on Playback devices.3) Make sure when the headphones are unplugged, the internal speakers are selected as the default device. Have you connected to laptop to an external display?Any other modifications, if you have done?

It has a sound card, but the external spreakers produce no sound. I never changed any of the computers settings, but one day it was like that and never changed back.

Hi

Okay this problem is driving me slightly insane...
I actually called in a dell engineer to help fix it but he completely failed. (as expected).

Okay so the problem is:
My speakers are absolutely fully functioning, they work perfectly when a test is run on start up. I.E. they output beeping sounds.

However when the operating system loads up, there is no sound. If I use headphones it works fine, but the speakers don't output any sound on their own.

So the tech guy changed the internal speakers- still the same problem-and then checked out/updated the drivers which left us with STILL the same problem...tried it in safe mode-still the same problem.

Is there any kind of *easy* solution to this that we're missing?

I'm still waiting for a response from Dell, but don't expect anything really.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi, erceve

If you go to the Control Panel and open up Device Manager, you should see something called Sound, video and game controllers. Open this up and right-click on the device that controls your speakers (likely Realtek) and select Properties. What is the driver version and status as listed in this Window?

Thanks in advance,

the case speaker doesnt rely on your sound card, all it provides is basically beeps and such. For sound from your sund card you need external speakers connected to the sound card sockets.

Hi, I just bought a new L430. My laptop won't play any sound before I open the sound settings in control panel & test a sound there. I have tried to update the driver but still no success. Any idea? Thanks. Regards. Haris

Answer:L430 won't play any sound before testing a sound in sound control panel

What if you uninstall the driver and use the generic Windows driver?

I have good sound with other speakers on this desktop, but I wanted to save some workspace on my desk, so I recently got a new AX510 sound bar and attached it onto a Dell 2208WFP monitor, one of the monitors listed for that soundbar.  It powers up via the AC port built in to the monitor, just like it should, and I've correctly connected the audio cable on the soundbar audio output on my desktop.  But there's no sound at all.  I did get a static "pop" once... but no other sound.
So I am trying to figure out whether the sound bar is defective, or if this is possibly a Windows 10 issue, as I've read a few odd posts on the internet about people suddenly finding that previously working sound bars don't work in Windows 10.... or some other incompatibility (my desktop is a Studio XPS 8100, Windows 10).  I realize all of my equipment is not the latest, but it's all been in great working condition and the one new addition is the sound bar... I did plug my old speakers back in again, and they still work just fine.
I was thinking I can test the sound bar by connecting it to another computer at work (tomorrow) that's running Windows 7.  to determine if it's a Windows 10 issue -- or if it just doesn't work at all -- but would that be a definitive test it's not a Dell computer?  Any other ways to diagnose the problem and pin it down?  I can conceivably still return the sound bar if I determine it's defect... Answer:Getting no sound from sound bar AX510 with Studio XPS 8100 (Is this a Windows 10 issue or is it the sound bar?)

DELL C730C SoundBar Speakers AX510  is an analog sound bar that needs a AS510PA power supply if it cant get power from the monitor.

Windows 7 drivers are often required to be reinstalled and needed to get sound working again after update to 8 or 10.
It also has a volume knob with a switch that must be turned on. When you do that there is a white lite in the center of the sound bar that indicates power is on.

The analog out goes to the GREEN outlet.

I have read a bunch of threads on multiple sites and have found some similar problems but nothing exactly like this.  Here is what doesn't work:-The windows sound on my computer does not work.  -I can go into the sound setup where you pick which sounds for different tasks (like windows startup), and the play button to preview that sound is "grayed" out.-Sound scheme is blank.  If I set the sound scheme to the "Windows Default", click apply and then click ok to close that menu, then go back into the sound scheme menu it is blank again.-There is no volume icon in my tray even though in the sound menu, it is clicked to be there.-No sound at all in IE.Here is what does work:-All other sound works fine such as playing the sound files for windows like  "Ding.wav" using windows media player.  Playing mp3's - no problem.  - Even if I go to the "Speech" icon in the control panel and listen to "Microsoft Sam" say "You have selected Microsoft Sam as the computer's default voice."  That works fine.I have downloaded new drivers for my sound device.  I have also ran the "DXDIAG" and all the sound test on there worked fine.Hope someone can help.Tired and rambling,Karl

Just got this laptop a few days ago new from Walmart. And  soon as I started it up and got it going I noticed  it makes a crackling/scratching noise coming from inside the laptop. Is this normal? I've seen a couple of videos on YouTube about this and the comments seem to point that it's normal but I want to make sure. So is it normal? I recorded a video of the sound coming from my laptop.  https://youtu.be/pXba_6GvHaI

Answer:Is this sound normal? Internal crackling noise?

Hi Reederboy117,This is most likely your HDD that is spinning, If you have an SSD it can be your fan spinning. If you don't trust the disk try a disk monitoring program to check disk health.Regards,Yoloserver

I'm using Windows 7 SP-1.  After my system plays audio for a while, distortion sets in.  The only way I've found to get rid of it (maybe for a day or so) is to reboot.  Driver is up-to-date.  I need someone to point me in the right direction.  Dell has been no help to date.  I think it's software related (or the driver is faulty).  Just my opinion.  Please help!!!!!!!!!!

Answer:M 6800: Distortion in the sound -- internal speakers

Am I correct in understanding that the problem won’t return after a day or so? If rebooting the computer corrects the problem then you are probably correct that this is just software. Just to be sure you may want to completely uninstall the audio driver and reinstall from scratch to make sure that there is no corruption there.
The next time you notice the problem bring up task manager and see what applications and services that you have running. End task any unneeded programs and see if that helps. While in the task manager, click on the performance tab and check to see if all the system resources are being spent. Click the resource monitor button on the bottom and look at what applications are using the most resources.. it may give a clue as to what software is causing the problem.
If restarting the system corrects the problem every time this really doesn't sound like anything is defective with the hardware of the system, hopefully you will be able to find the culprit. Please let me know what you find out.

Hi,
Dell Inspiron 3542
Windows 10 Home 64bit (1703)
I was watching (and hearing), videos with the laptop at rest on top of my desk and suddenly sound went mute. I check all the typical culprits (Volume Mixer, Playback Devices, Dell Audio Sound Manager, downloaded and reinstalled latest driver, etc), but no sound. Sound does work with headphones and when I insert them the system automatically detects them and adjust volume. When I remove them the system quickly sense that and adjust the volume. So I came here and read Jimco's FAQ. Followed all the recommendations and ran the pre-boot assessment test. Sadly I can not hear the 8 tones. So now, what are my options to fix the problem?

I just got my Lenovo Y570 today and the sound hasn't worked since I turned it on. I tried uninstalling the Realtek sound driver and I installed the driver on the Lenovo website and that one doesn't work either. Does anyone know what could be the problem? EDIT: I connected my headphones to the jack and they do work, but the laptop speakers don't.

Answer:Lenovo Y570 No Sound From Internal Speakers

Joseg1320,Try going to control panel then Sound then see if the speakers are "set as default". If it is and there is still no sound, then you would need to contact support to get the hardware checked.

My laptop is 2.5 years old. 6 months ago the speakers started dying on me, crackling etc, couldn't get much volume out of them and now have died completely. There is no sound at all. I suspect it is a hardware problem. Computer shops seem to want to charge me a lot of money just to open up the machine and even then suggest they might not be able to do anything.

Has anyone had a similar problem with their laptop in this regard. Of course my laptop is now out of guarantee. Surely speakers should last longer than this? I am desperate for my sound back but don't know the best route to go down and least expensive to try and fix it.
I would be grateful for any advice and help.

Thank you.
Ruth

Answer:Internal speakers - No sound on Equium A110-252

Hi

I didn?t have such issue with any of my 3 laptops.
It would be very interesting to know if you can hear something using the headphones.

Check this!
If the audio signal is available using the headphones then this issue is definitely related to the speakers and seems that both speakers should be replaced.
For me it looks like a bad luck because it?s really very uncommon that the speakers would die? but nothing is impossible as you know?

So in my eyes the speakers should be replaced and I think the ASP in your country should be contacted to arrange a replacement.

Good luck

High there,
My system caught a virus about four months ago, being that i'm a poor sob and a writer it took this long to get the money to replace the power supply that burnt up, found dug fur in its casing and this casued an arcing, and kablooey its gone, previous to this, i had been using Musicmatch as a jukebox and burner, I beleive it was upon recieving an update, ( unfortunately was to naive to record the date of the crash, or the possible update, but have learned a valuable lesson for next time, (Go Joe- knowing is half the battle)
anyway after the update, i lost sound, or had my system hijacked, and the volume control removed from the system tray, I have done alomsot everything possible to get it backto no avail, my sound card isn't (still) picked up by the CPU or Everest, which makes sense, but the drivers all say that everything is working, same for the USB's but of the two in front and four in back, none of them record, or rather issue a prompt acknowledging that i have plugged in a device, printer or palmpilot, ( by the way, the usb's worked before the power source failed) I have reloaded all the driver software for the audio, and updated the chipset drivers, and all the recomended software from FIC, the mobo manufacturer, who kinda sucks by the way,all after i did a complete resore, then I ran a USb checking program put out by intel that says that all is well. So in a way i learned alot, and am leaning towards the fact that there is probabl... Read more

Have you noticed if the USBs and sound are enabled in the BIOS setup utilty? Might be under chipset, or onboard devices.

Hi, I've been searching google thin and tried numerous fixes and nothing so far has worked. I just bought an used Lenovo ideapad u410 and a week later the internal speakers suddenly stopped working. External/headphones still work flawlessly, but the internal speakers won't make a sound. So far I've tried these things:Updating drivers manually.Deleting drivers and let windows update them itself.Deleting drivers and installing the default windows drivers.Checking the internal speakers is set as standard, not muted and that the jackstick isn't stuck or jammed.Restoring the computer to factory settings.Restart audio services.I probably tried some other stuff too that I forgot. When I got the computer there was windows 10 installed, so I tried to do a clean install of windows 8.1. This made the sound come back for a few days, then it disappeared again like with windows 10. I then tried upgrading back to windows 10, didn't work. Rolled back to 8.1, didn't work. I'm considering doing a clean install of windows 7 at this point, because I'm desperate. At the momemt I got 8.1 installed and I have tried installing and deleting the drivers numerous times, with no success.Anyone got any ideas as to what I can do next besides doing a clean install of windows 7?

Answer:Lenovo u410 no sound from internal speaker

If you right click on the speaker icon in the tray and select playback devices, do your internal speakers show up there with a Green check mark, and if not, if you right click in the Playback window and select Show Disabled Devices and Show Disconnected Devices. do your internal speakers show as disabled?    If so, right click on them and select enable and then set them as the default.     Also try disabling the other playback devices (unplug them too) to see if that helps. It sounds like yoiu may have already checked that, and it is not the issue, espeically since it sounds like (no pun intented) ,that you have restored the system, but it never hurts to check.  Drivers and software aside, most sound card jacks mechanically mute the internal speakers when an external jack is pugged in, so perhaps the jack itself is broken and is not switching back to the internal speakers when the headphones are unplugged.   .

Never had any issue with sound before. Suddenly the speakers on E6430 don't work but headphones still do.  Booted using f12 key and it passed sound test.  Swapped boot drive from Win10 and inserted Win 7 drive with same results.  I guess the speakers are OK but the sense pin doesn't work. Software is up-to-date. So now what?

Answer:E6430 internal speakers no sound but headphones OK

skrambamSo now what?
Hello. If still under warranty contact tech support.
If not, look at this part. Note that there are 2 versions of the part, and the one you use depends on your graphics.
The instructions are in the Owner's (Service) Manual.

Hey, I'm sorry for my bad English.

I've just restored my Satellite A300D-14D to it's factory defaults. So all drivers and software are like I've bought the notebook. The sound worked well but after I restarted the notebook 2 or 3 times because of the Windows Vista Updates, the sound just disappeared. The internal speakers are harman/kardon speakers.

If i plug in my headphones everything works well, but I want listen to music through the internal speakers. So I unplug my headphones but theres no sound coming through the notebook speakers, I can't hear anything.

I've tried the latest sound drivers form the toshiba support homepage for the A300D-14D, without a succsess.

Need help pls!

Answer:Satellite A300D-14D - No sound on internal speakers

Hi Schurik,

Have you checked the Windows sound settings? Usually in sound driver you can change between audio output on internal speakres and external speakers (headphones).
Check this!!!

What service pack for Vista is installed? Is newest SP2 installed?

So the C series has +awful+ built in sound, we all know this. No matter, as at home I run my sound through some nice speakers and on the move I'll use earphones. However, to get good sound I have to switch the DTS settings from internal to external. Et voila, great sound.

However, the DTS settings reset to internal, forcing me to manually change it again each time. Not the biggest issue in the world, I agree, but still annoying.

Anybody have a clue on how to change the default setting to external? Cheers!

Answer:DTS sound output settings reset to internal

If there is no setting to mark this option as default, then I assume that you have to choose the external sound output always while using the DTS sound profile.

Just rec'd new K450e and there is absolutely no sound from on board speakers.  When plugging in headphone jack, I have great sound on my headphones.  Had already reinstalled drivers etc with no change.  Have plugged and unplugged headphones to see if curcuit can be made with on board speakers, but with no luck....still silence.  Pretty frustrated.   Wonder if there are any other tests that can be run with this desktop system.  Any help is appreciated.

Answer:Brand new K450e out of the box with no sound from Internal speakers

Hi Kubotaboyz,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

The Lenovo K450e does not come with an internal speakers.
All Lenovo Tower PC does not have an internal Speaker and you must connect one either through the back Audio port or at the front on some units.

You can check this K4 Model series Maintenance Manual to verify that the unit does not include speakers internally.

Hope this helps
Regards
Solid Cruver

I have Boston BA735USB speakers, the sound card is out dated and since updating to XP.  I have have no sound so I am searching to save at least the speakers and get a new sound card. Creative does not make a sound card the I can use my spearker on is ther a company that does. Something "simple" plug & play

Answer:Internal Sound card that supports USB speakers

according to the Boston acoustic website you only need to make sure you have a digital sound card  , check the site and you'll find a link to the creative website , hope this helps .   you don't need a sound card with usb outputs , if there is even such a thing
