I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Malware- Compaq- 2017-08-17

I am not finding any malware in your logs. If you are having issues, I suggest you post in another forum.

Since you are not having any malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8 or 10, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Hi everyone, i have quite a few questions so i'll post separate threads rather than pollute one thread. I'm wanting to get something a lot better than windows defender. Comcast is my ISP so i can get NIS for free. As most of you are aware of Norton hasn't been doing a great job these days. There has been multiple vulnerabilities in its products that actually decreases the security of windows. Still NIS still does a pretty good job of scoring pretty well in the various test in terms of protection. I was thinking on going with either bitdefender or KIS but of course i would have to pay for those. If you were me would opt for NIS because its still pretty dang good and worlds better than bit defender or would you opt for one of the better products like KIS or bitdefender?

Answer:Kaspersky IS 2017 vs Norton IS 2017 vs Bitdefender IS 2017

bitdefender free+ CF and SAP i think will be good

I am not finding any malware in your logs.

However, run this:

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.

Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Vista/Windows 7/8 and 10 users right-click and select Run As Administrator
Click on the Scan button.
AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R#].txt) will open in Notepad for review (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.
Attach the logfile to your next reply.
A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.

This is more than likely not a malware problem. This PC is running a very old, out of date, and unsupported operating system (Win XP SP3 ). In addition, it has too little memory to even run it properly. Logs show:
Code:

Total Physical Memory 512.00 MB
Available Physical Memory 262.42 MB
And to make things worse there are too many protection programs installed and running. I see all of the below:

Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition
Client Security Solution
COMODO Internet Security
Internet Security Essentials
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware version 2.2.1.1043
Spybot - Search & Destroy
SpywareBlaster 5.5
SUPERAntiSpyware

I would start by uninstalling all of the above and see if your situation changes. It is possible that you may have a problem uninstalling some of them while in safe boot mode.

Reboot and rescan with both and attach the new logs.

Also, you are running old instructions. We no longer ask for TDSSKiller......please refer to the new instructions and run ADWCleaner and attach that log.

Hi - I was using Zemana Anti Malware fine for several months but a recent update to the program is flagging it as unsafe by Kaspersky. I ended up uninstalling Zemana before I realized it was a false positive and I'm not sure if I was to reinstall it if I would have the same problem. I also was using a free 1 year license and I forget what that code was..

Anyway, any suggestions for another anti malware that works nicely with Kaspersky? Preferably free or with a deal going on.. I won't use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 3.0.. tried it and nothing but issues.

Anyone have experience using VoodooShield along side Kaspersky? And do they play nice?

thanks,

Pros
Excellent scores in our malware blocking and malicious URL blocking tests. Good scores in lab tests. Effective behavior-based detection can even spot ransomware. Clean, simple user interface.
Cons
So-so score in our antiphishing test. Behavior-based detection warns about both valid programs and malware.
Bottom Line
Hence the name, Emsisoft Anti-Malware focuses on the core task of keeping your PCs free of malware. It does a good job, and with a clean, simple interface, it looks good too.

more in the link above.

Answer:PcMag Emsisoft Anti-Malware 2017

First time that I see a decent review of Emsisoft. Always "lacking in phishing protection" but I think that is not their main priority. Use avira or avast extension on your favorite browser and let Emsisoft make the job against malware.

Twenty-one security products, including free and paid AVs, suites and business end point protection were tested.
The Malware Protection Test is an enhancement of the File Detection Test which was performed in previous years. This Malware Protection Test checks not only the detection rates of the participating programs, but also their protection capabilities, i.e. the ability to prevent a malicious program from actually makingchanges to the system. The test set used for this test consisted of 37,999 malware samples, assembled after consulting telemetry data with the aim of including recent, prevalent samples that are endangering users in the field. The tests were performed on a 64-Bit Microsoft Windows 10 Professional system. Both online and offline detection rates, and false positive detections are reported.
Results, in pdf format, are here:www.av-comparatives.org/.../avc_mpt_201703_en.pdf
Comments:
All products detected/protected greater than 99% of threats. Not surprising, when so many samples were used, the majority of which would be known to the vendors.
The free AVs (Panda, Avast, AVG and Windows Defender) all held their own against the paid products/suites. Windows Defender had no false positives, followed closely by Panda Free AV with only one FP.

Answer:AV-Comparatives Malware Protection Test March 2017

Some more comments:
1) Panda Free did extremely well in the ONLINE aspects of this test --- even [a tad] better than avast/avg.   However, being a CLOUD-based antivirus, it was severely hampered when limited to its offline-only capability.   Anyone who doesn't have a decent internet connection (which hopefully is a rare condition nowadays) should keep this in mind.
2) The numbers for avg & avast were IDENTICAL throughout this test.   This should not come as a surprise, since avast acquired avg, and has been combining their background features, including sharing a common definition database.   Apparently, the only significant difference between avast and avg is cosmetic:  their appearance via their user interface.   avast/avg performed well even in offline-only mode.   But they did suffer from more than just "a few" false positives... which resulted in their test-rating being lowered to "advanced" (vs. Panda's "advanced+").
3) While Microsoft had no F/P's, its detection/protection numbers placed it in statistical "cluster 3", which clearly separates it (at least, in terms of this particular test) from Panda, avast & avg, which were all grouped together in [the highest] "cluster 1".

Good evening everyone. Thanks for your access to this thread. I hope you to read and answer for this question.

I want to ask everyone that which software should I use for keeping security of my PC.

Now I am using Bitdefender Total Security 2017 as main anti-malware soft on my main desktop PC.
And also I was using F-secure SAFE as anti-malware soft on my PC until last week.

Yesterday, I heard that new Avast Antivirus 2017 was released, and new Avast Free is including behaviour scanning system.

I am having trouble deciding which software should I use as anti-malware soft.
Please tell me about your recommend.

I think that...

?Protection features
Better : Bitdefender 2017 > F-secure SAFE > Avast Free 2017

?Performance and speed
Lighter : Avast Free 2017 > F-secure SAFE > Bitdefender 2017

?the risk of false positive trouble
Bigger risk : F-secure SAFE > Avast Free 2017 > Bitdefender 2017

?SSL (HTTPS) Scanning is enable without fake SSL certificate to browser
Unnecessary fake certificate : Avast Free, F-secure
Need fake certificate : Bitdefender Total

F-secure SAFE is the very nice solution as protection from malwares and keeping speedy PC. But it is having big risk of false positive ratings; especially the website blocking is not good with many many false positive ratings. And, sometimes slow down my PC.

Bitdefender Total Security 2017 is the best solution as protection from malwares. This software is providing users very nice anti-malware solu... Read more

Answer:Avast Free 2017 vs F-secure SAFE vs Bitdefender Total Security 2017

Quick question, why Bitdefender Total Protection? Do you need ALL those additional features, or looking for an Antivirus only, because there are Bitdefender Antivirus Plus and Free versions.

What about other protection software like Emsisoft Anti-Malware/Internet Security or ESET Nod32 Antivirus/Internet Security?

Hello, Guys!
I'm new on this forum but I Really Really like this good Forum
So I had Emsisoft for couple of months now
But Recently I've switched over to Avast Premier Beacuse I've never used Avast before So I wanted to try It out
But now I'm without any AV As I do not know what to Install Avast or Emsisoft!
I have licences for both So thats not the problem
Thanks In Advance And btw This forum really nice.

Answer:Avast Premier 2017 Vs Emsisoft Internet Security 2017

Both have excellent protection functions, but certainly they are two different security solutions.
I think the choice of one or the other one is really subjective, I've used Emsisoft for many years and it is my first choice

A couple of years ago I moved myself and some of the fam from Apple Everything to Windows 10. Yesterday however, I bought an new 2017 iPad. I really love the Surface devices, so why?
LEAVING THE PLATFORM BECAUSE OF WINDOWS MOBILE
First, because Microsoft are no longer supporting the phones that are in our house, we are being forced from that platform. So rather than living and breathing completely and happily inside the Microsoft ecosystem, I am now forced to diversify and go elsewhere. This really is a big deal, and changes my thinking from the unthinkable (leaving the MS ecosystem) to the possible (shifting back towards Apple). That being the case, why should I then buy a Microsoft Surface tablet (I was planning to buying a new Surface Pro M3) when I an now FORCED to be open to Apple and Android?
EASE OF MOVING PLATFORMS
Second, Microsoft have made my leap back to Apple so easy, because they have done what Apple and Google have refused to do, which is to make their software available on the others' platforms. Thus the transition to iPad is easy. For example, Word and PowerPoint are effectively free (via my 365 account that I will not be renewing at full cost next time; I will use the academic version which costs me almost nothing). Outlook on iPad is a great app (better than on PC platform). Lots of other apps that Microsoft that I use are also really nice on iPad (e.g. Wunderlist) and made the transition really simple and clean.
FACEBOOK
Third, the Facebook app on iPad is ... Read more

Answer:I did the unthinkable and chose a 2017 iPad over a 2017 Surface Pro M3

Microsoft are no longer supporting the phones that are in our house, we are being forced from that platform
Can't make sense of that. Presumably you have really old windows phones that no longer get updates?
And what does that have to do with what tablet you use? Windows has timeline, cloud clipboard and a whole host of platform agnostic features coming this fall, so Windows will play nice with android or ios (better than those OSes play with any other).
You don't even need your tablet, desktop and phone to be the same platform. You just need the same services, which for MSFT, exist on every platform.

Emsisoft is proud to announce our new build with the Firewall Fortification feature:

As announced earlier, we are changing our firewall strategy and will soon merge Emsisoft Internet Security with Emsisoft Anti-Malware, effective as of our next release in October. Instead of developing our own firewall module, we?re going to rely on the built-in Windows Firewall core that has proven to be powerful and reliable. Its only weak point is the fact that anyone can freely change the firewall configuration. In other words, if malware manages to run on the PC with sufficient administrator permissions, it?s able to allow itself to get through the firewall.

To resolve this vulnerability, we?ve developed a new Firewall Fortification feature for Emsisoft Anti-Malware?s Behavior Blocker as part of our 2017.8 release. Firewall Fortification detects and intercepts malicious actions from non-trustworthy programs in real time before they can cause any damage.Click to expand...

In September 2016, we started adding to Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool (MSRT) a malware suite of browser modifiers and other Trojans installed by software bundlers. We documented how the malware in this group install other malware or applications silently, without your consent. This behavior ticks boxes in the evaluation criteria that Microsoft Malware Protection Center (MMPC) uses for identifying unwanted software. Installing software without your permission, interaction, or consent is considered unwanted behavior because that can take away the choice you should have in determining what applications to install on your computer.

By October 2016, MSRT detected and removed most of the malware families in this suite:
Sasquor, which changes browser search and homepage settings to circumvent the browser?s supported methods and bypass your consent, and can install other malware like Xadupi and Suweezy
SupTab, which also changes browser search and homepage settings, and installs services and scheduled tasks that regularly install additional malware
Suweezy, which attempts to modify settings for various antivirus software, including Windows Defender, creating a significant danger to your computer?s overall security
Xadupi, which registers a service that regularly installs other apps, including Ghokswa and SupTab, and is ostensibly an update service for an app that has some user-facing functionality: CornerSunshine displays weather information on the taskbar, WinZipp... Read more

Hello,
On my Windows 10 pro PC, I'm running (BDTS 2017 + Voodoo Shield Pro + Malwarebytes 3), and this combo is very smooth for me, but when I saw the results of MT tests here : AV Test - MalwareTips - Bitdefender Report - March 2017 and here : AV Test - MalwareTips - Kaspersky Report - March 2017, I think that these tests demonstrated that Kaspersky did a better job then Bitdefender
So my question is to know if it is a good idea to replace BD by KIS on my config ?
Thanks
NB: I have paid keys for both

Removed by using free version of Malwarebytes software. The malicious part that would not allow me to do anything is gone from my computer. The redirect screen that shows the urgent message still appears when clicking links. I can work around this nusiance by going into the address bar and removing the added address components that are added to the original link that was clicked. Here is a copy of the HiJackThis report that I got from the infected comp., can anyone help me with the removal possible files that could be causing the re-directing of the internet explorer. Hi Guys its Me again, I am having problems with Trojans of unknown origin called Trojan.Killapp.30208.A1 (from Bitdefender online scan). I believe this is from HP/Compaq preinstalled from the factory and is located in the C:\hp\bin.
Bitdefender reported the infection has been removed or quarantined(by Trend Micro I think)
A-squared free trojan scanner idents them as Trojan.Win32.RC5_Dropper.e located in the C:\hp\bin\CorelWP\src\intro.exe
Riskware.Risktool.Win32.PsKill.p located in the C:\hp\bin\Killwind.exe.
Adware.WildTangent.a located in C:\Program files\Wildtangent\apps\wtkernal0100.dll plus all the adware that goes with wild tangent and that I need to remove as soon as I get instructions on complete removal (registry included).

Look for it in Add/Remove programs and uninstall it. Otherwise allow whatever found it to fix. Since you did not attach any logs, I don't know who reported this to you. The logs you attached don't show any problems and these are not all the logs that are required in the READ ME. If you ran CounterSpy as requested in the READ ME, it may have removed WildTangent for you.

Greetings,

My daughter has a Compaq Mini CQ10-400 that has been rendered inoperable by malware. While surfing, she encountered an antivirus program and entered into a dialog with said antivirus program. After continuing the dialog with this program for some 15 munutes the Mini locked up and she was forced to attempt a reboot. Upon attempting to reboot, the Mini displays the orange Compaq screen and then the screen goes black and the cursor is located in the upper left side of the screen and Windows will not boot. The Mini is running Windows XP Home and does not have a CD/DVD drive, but it does have USB ports. I suspect, (a) the master boot record has been corrupted or rendered conflicted, ( XP has been removed, or © she just wants a new loptop. Any assistance with troubleshooting and corrective actions will be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Compaq Mini will not boot after encounter with malware antivirus

Hello, lightspeed59.My name is etavares and I will be helping you with this log. Here are some guidelines to ensure we are able to get your machine back under your control. Please do not run any unsupervised scans, fixes, etc. We can work against each other and end up in a worse place. Please subscribe to this topic if you have not already done so. Please check back just in case, as the email system can fail at times.Just because your machine is running better does not mean it is completely cleaned. Please wait for the 'all clear' from me to say when we are done. Please reply within 3 days to be fair to other people asking for help. When in doubt, please stop and ask first. There's no harm in asking questions!OK, sounds like a corrupted MBR. We can fix it via a USB flash drive. To do this, we need a clean working WIndows computer and an empty USB flash drive. Let me know if you have those ready to go.etavares

Good evening everyone! Thank you for your access to here and reading my post.
Tonight, I want to ask you that how much the Avast Free Antivirus reaches some solid anti-malware software, which are the paid version.

Now I am using F-secure SAFE as Trial license on desktop PC, which is one of the mine.
It seems to nice for protect PC and F-secure SAFE is light despite it is one of the very strong scanning system as consumers.

But now, I am worrying about false blocking by browsing protection of F-secure SAFE.
In usually, f-secure is not making something to bad situation for me, I am feeling it.
But the Browsing protection feature of F-secure SAFE blocks websites too many times.
The most of sites, which were blocked by F-secure are obviously safe. Of cause, they are judged safe sites by other major antimalware soft (e.g. Avast, Bitdefender Total Security).

So I want to compare them; Avast Free Antivirus 2017 and F-secure SAFE 2017(or Internet Security 2017).
I want to ask you that which is the more strong software under the below situation...

1.
OS is Windows10 Home and updated with latest security patch.
2.
Main browser is the latest of Mozilla Firefox with ublock origin.
3.
If I use Avast Free 2017, I will configure some setting (e.g. File Shield, Mail Shield, Web Shield, and Behavior Shield) to aggressive security level. For example, I will configure by referring to this page avast! Optimal Protection settings by RejZoR
I heard that the latest edition of Avast Free A... Read more

Hey man. Of the two I would choose Avast, much more reliable and customizable.
My personal choice is Bitdefender though. I believe you could do some research on Youtube so that you form your own opinion. Here are some interesting channels:

I have an old Compaq Armada 3500 laptop that I bought years ago to help me through college. After that it kinda gathered dust a little until recently when I wanted to dig it back out and just use it to play a few games on and whathaveyou. It booted up fine when I first did it but it soon transpired that it was absolutely chocablock with viruses and spyware and it was running terribly.

So, on what now looks to have been a foolish move, I did a C: drive format in the hope of popping in a Win98SE installation disc and have it boot from that to re-install Windows.

However, now it won't boot up past the COMPAQ initial screen and a "602: Diskette Read Driver Error" or something keeps flashing up.

Is there any way to get into the BIOS settings to set the CD Drive as the first in the boot-up line-up, or are there recovery discs I can download that'll at least get me into DOS?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Compaq Armada 3500 Laptop Won't Boot Up Past Compaq Screen...

Well you should be able to access the CMOS Bios by using either the delete, F1 or F2 keys (sometimes f10). Then under the Bios you should see the Boot Sequence and be able to change it from there. But either way, you should be able to get past the Compaq splash screen. Try setting your boot sequence and see if that helps.

My Compaq Armada 3500 won't boot past COMPAQ logo. It wont boot to Floppy or CD and I cant enter BIOS to change any settings. I have 2 of these laptops (I bought them both used). My other one had the same similar problem when I got it, but I fixed by removing the cmos battery for 30 minutes and rebooting after I put it back in without the HD in the case. It told me error 162 options not set, and date and time had to be reset, and to hit F1 to save the settings. I did and rebooted. It booted to my floppy Win98 boot disk fine, and then I put in a COMPAQ setup for portables and a DIAG floppy and set it up to boot to multi boot. It runs like a charm now for its size.
But the other one will not accept any of these options although it does tell me the same message after I remove the CMOS battery and put it back in as I did the other one. But when I reboot, it still doesnt see the floppy, CDROM or let me boot to bios to enter setup. It just shows the COMPAQ logo and says "non system disk, remove the disk and hit a key when ready." I have removed the hard drive, removed the CD ROM, and removed the floppy on seperate occasions to see if any of them were the problem, but no change. I took the whole thing apart, and put it back together hoping something would end up being connected to the problem, but it still doesn't change the problem. Next to selling it for parts, any ideas? Its in great shape, has a nice 13 inch lcd and good floppy and cd-roms, and 192 ram.

Just threw this article together, I want all the brain's in this forum to chip in and if there is anything missing from this article (at all!) let me know ASAP, in this thread.

A top quote :

Previously we wrote a long post about Best Laptops for Hackers, which included a run-down on the best laptops for programming and penetration testing (pen-testing). This article turned out to be very popular even though it wasn't exactly intended to be that, now we are proud to finally publish the long-requested article of 'Best Laptops for Video Game System Emulation'.

The idea of this post is to give an accurate summary of which laptops are suited for, or adept at emulating various consoles and their games, and which ones also can easily perform these duties, at the lowest possible cost.

Now obviously, the better hardware you have the better your system will be at emulating other hardware/software. That doesn't necessarily mean a more expensive laptop. Where the demands of hacking and pen-testing demand vital and significant internal storage, the prerequisites for game emulation are generally just a good graphics processor, and good RAM/CPU.

Your laptop should also be in good working order and not muddled with high-risk pirated downloads and large bits of video. To emulate efficiently, you should also have as little processes and programs running in order for the emulator to run smoothly.

These are all common sense tips but...

Greetings! I own a HP Compaq Presario 2547 AI which has done many many years since I purchased it sometime in 2006. But of late it shows a persistent problem. At first it would beep numerous  times on start up, and then go into normal booting on itw own.But now, it just stays stuck at the Compaq Logo screen with the F2, F10 and F12 messages, but when I press any of that it does nothing. I tried putting a bootable DVD CD ROM but that didn't work. I tried reseating the RAM but that didn't work.I tried A USB keyboard and that didn't work ....I tried reseating the HDD, and checked that but it is unlikely that a faulty HDD is at cause. Now I know this is an old celeron processor with an old CMOS battery, but my research tells me that is ulikely that those two are at fault as I've never let this unit overheat or expose to power fluctuations. It was working perfectly fine inspite of those  numerour beeps at startup and then booting into WIndows but now it just stays stuck the Compaq Logo Splash screen. Can someone help me resolve this issue, as I've invested quite a bit into this old chugger and want it fixed/upgraded/ made and ANdroid PC or someway of getting the perfectly good screen , HDD, DVD RW and RAM and motherboard to work again? If you can help me, my HP Compaq will give you loads of kisses for sure and chug ahead for a long long time

Answer:Compaq Presario SR1810NX Not Getting Past Compaq Logo Screen

Try a power drain.
1. Unplug power cord
2. Hold power button in for 60 seconds or more then let go
3. Plug in power cord
4. turn on the power and try to boot to setup (BIOS)

If it enters the BIOS then you should be able to just press F5 to reset to defaults and then F10 to save and exit. The PC should work now.

However, if after the power drain you still can not get in the BIOS than there is a MAJOR problem which would require some type of repair.

My laptop worked fine one day then the next it got stuck at the compaq screen. F10 key nor any other key will work. I have unplugged, taken out the battery and held down the power key to no avail. I do not even have the option to go to safe mode or any other screen. It does not sound like it is trying to boot and when I insert a disk it tries to run then it just stops. I have tried taken out the battery and just using the ac adapter and I have tried unplugging it and using just the battery; nothing. Any thoughts?? My knowledge of computers is very very limited so please respond in layman terms. thanks....

HiI have an HP Compaq SG3-110UK desktop, and I would like to change the hard drive to an SSD. Firstly is this desktop compatible with an SSD drive - secondly what type of SATA connection would I need assuming I can? I would prefer to keep the original HDD for additonal storage, so was thinking of getting a power splitter and putting the drive in the optical bay, or the old HDD there (either way). Is this a possible? Are there any gotchas before I commit hard cash? Thanks for all your advice Rob

Answer:HP - Compaq Compaq SG3-110UK - Can I install an SSD drive

Hi, From the following link I don't think you have room for a second HDD unless you have to modify the 5.25" bay.     http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c02568761 Now back to your main question, yes, you can replace current SSD with a 2.5" SSD. Currently your machine uses SATA II (3Gb/s) but I believe you can't find any SATA II SSD around, you have to buy a SATA III SSD. You also need 2.5 to 3.5 inch SSD Mounting Bracket which you can buy at any good computer shop for under $10 (or few pounds). You have to work out how to put (physically) the old HDD back. Regards.

We have bought a new samsung monitor and it recommends a resolution of 1080p but I don't have this choice in the desktop settings for an old Compaq desktop computer with Windows xp. What is the solution to get the computer set to the ideal resolution?

Answer:compaq: compatibility issues with monitor_1080p & compaq pc

Update the graphics card driver if you haven't already done so, but if the card cannot work at the optimum resolution there is little you can do except buy a new graphics card."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." Pink Floyd

Pc is equipped with 340 Intel Celeron D processor, Win XP. 512 mb RAM and 80 GB hard drive.

Was installing a wireless keyboard and mouse, Logitech Wave. After following instruction on connecting keyboard and mouse, started to install the cd software from Logitech. System froze, waited 15 minutes and attempted to restart. Unable to Cntrl, Alt Delete. Manual shutdown, on restart, computer goes to Compaq screen but will not allow access to F1, F8, Esc or F10 to restore. Unplugged the wireless keyboard and did another manual restart with the PS2 keyboard connected. Same response, have tried another PS2 keyboard, same response. Also used wired mouse to no effect.

I have inserted Win XP cd rom hoping to boot from that but no effect. I am stuck, does anyone have a suggestion since I can't get into restore or safe mode, I don't have a clue.

Answer:compaq pc boots to compaq screen...

Hello sb6204

I am not clear if any keyboard and mouse work.

If they do, try a system restore

Boot into Safe Mode Options Screen (the one with Last Known Good Configuration on it) by pressing F8 at bootup and choose
'Safe mode with command prompt'

At the command prompt type
C:\Windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

Hopefully this will open System Restore, so restore to before you installed Logitech

I'm running Windows XP SP3 with everything up to date as far as I know. I have the complete set of my PC's OEM Disks that I've used once when my OS was completely messed up, had Geeks Rescue out and they couldn't figure out what was wrong, so I know what they are for.

What I'm not understanding are the several tools I'm afraid to open listed in my "Start"/"All Programs" I have both "Compaq"/"Compaq Presario PC Tools" with "Compaq Application Recovery"/"Compaq Recovery CD-DVD Creator"/"Compaq Recovery Tools CD"/"Compaq Support Information"/"Compaq System Recovery"/"Remote Assistance"/"Safety and Comfort Guide"

Then below that entry there's another that says, "PC Recovery Tools" that has the "Compaq Application Recovery"/"Compaq Recovery CD-DVD Creator"/"Compaq Recovery Tools CD"/ and /"Compaq System Recovery" which I'm assuming are the same as the same four listed above.
I know what the "Compaq Recovery CD-DVD Creator" is supposed to do but like so many other folks I've read about I couldn't get mine to burn all of the disks successfully so I got them from HP/Compaq after a lot of run around and misery.

My problem is that I inadvertently uninstalled my Omnipass program file a while back and perhaps a couple of other needed files and drivers but I'm no... Read more

Not sure if this is the result of the ?Creator Update or coincidental hardware fail.
Yesterday my HP6735S laptop running W10 Home since last year was offered an update from v1607 (I think) to the latest. I allowed this to go ahead and waited .. and waited for about 4.5 hours all told.
Eventually it finished and after logging in again it appeared to be working.
After being left for a while it turned itself off - as normal.
I then tried to turn it on with the following result:-
Blue power light ON
WiFi LED Orange (Off)
HDD activity LED flashing Orange (Normally Blue)
DVD drive seeming to try accessing (Empty at the time)
Display Blank
Caps Lock LED flashing occasionally
Pressing and holding the power button turns Off as normal.
Tried removing battery and starting with adapter - same.
Tried putting in W10 *.iso DVD - same.
I can read the HDD in a caddy on another PC and it seems to be OK
(Except the small (100M) system partition reports empty)
I have 3 normal partitions:
Windows 7 (~100G)
Windows 10 (~100G)
Data (~500G)
I usually had to select W7 or W10 at start up.
Unfortunately I cannot run your SysInfo utility for obvious reasons.
Procesor is dual core AMD Turion X2 64bit with 4G RAM (2 x 2G)
Laptop came with (250G HDD)/Vista originally which I replaced with XP.
The HDD was later replaced with 1T HGST and installed W7.
W10 was installed using the code from W8 (bought) as a dual boot.
Any ideas?

I'm sure there are similar older threads, but things change quickly for VPN services and extensions.

I have used ZenMate, DotVPN and GOM VPN extensions in the past. But it's been over a year, and they seem to have changed. DotVPN didn't require sign-up when I used it for example, now it does.

Which VPN extension (for Chrome) do you use/recommend in 2017

Answer:Which VPN extension do you use in 2017?

None of those, I use Private Internet Access. However, it is paid
It has an extension for chrome but I mostly use the windows app.

My favourite free alternative in Chrome used to be ZenMate. I have some friends who use Hola free vpn but I've never tried it so I'm not sure it's any good. Well, it depends on what you want it for.

Hi, I just bought an XPS 8910 with 256 GB M2.SSD + 2GB HDD with 16GB DDR4 RAM.(Win10Pro) I installed whole necessary Sotwares, updates, etc. When I finish, I pluged in USB 3.0 Extern HDD (1TB)Then rebooted and started with Acronis TI 2017 CD.Till here everything works fine.TI does not recognised C:\ [M2.SSD] as normal but Extern HDD C:\ itself. So, I cant make any image copy with Acronis Live CDANY IDEA

Answer:M2.SSD Does not appear on Acronis TI 2017

The Chipset 8910 M2 drivers are not native to windows. You need to talk with Acronis about mass storage drivers.  There is support from Dell for Windows PE and DISM but it is not free.
Imaging using anything other than windows PE 10 and Microsoft Tools
is not supported by Dell or Microsoft. When you deploy a duplicated or imaged Windows installation, it is required that the System Preparation (Sysprep) tool is used before the capture of the image.
Dependencies
You must run Windows Setup before you use Sysprep.
You need a tool to capture an image of the installation, such as Microsoft DISM

The new Box V2 includes all of these features, plus an enhanced assessment tool that scans for weak or default passwords and other vulnerabilities hackers could exploit.

New Features

Monitor where you enter personal information?such as address, Social Security number, etc.?and prevent you from accidentally submitting that data on fraudulent or insecure websites.

Improved Hardware

Price and Licensing
The Box Version 2 is expected to retail in the sub-$200 range, and will go on sale later this year with pre-orders beginning in summer 2017. Bitdefender says it will likely keep both devices on the market to provide different price points. and this *** machine is a toaster!
Its just out of the box with windows 10 Pre Installed and its heating with or without the power plugged in.
It  is getting hot to the point where I cannot use it anymore ( At the Table or in my lap )
Also on a full charge the battery capacity is reflecting as 3 hours and 30 minutes only.
Is it normal? How do I fix this? I have done the BIOS update , System Firmware Upgrade etc. and everything is up to date. Tried reinstalling windows and also tried with the power saver mode but issue still persists.
What to do?

My system will get to 112 F near the back and mostly on the left side.

I have cleared registry entries too. I have deleted files from windows installer folder too.
Please help

Answer:Nero 2017

How did you "clear regsitry entries"?

If you did not do a very detailed removal of such, chances are there are entries remaining in the registry.  The easy way to find out is to go into regedit...do a search for "Nero 2017" or "Nero".

Question: End of Vista 2017

I understand that Vista finishes in 2017. Can you expand on this for me?

I have Home Premium 32 bit at present and Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor seems to recognise only minor adjustments to be made. Would you suggest I upgrade now or wait until Vista ends?

Answer:End of Vista 2017

It will be just like XP. What it basically means is that there will be no updates from Microsoft for it. Vista will still work just like xp does still work.

If your happy with Vista then you can continue to use it for the rest of your life if you want.

What I recommend though is that do not use internet explorer use another browser. if you use it after the finish date as it will be vunerable and make sure you have a firewall and AV software protecting your system, but you should have that now anyway.

Question: 2017 4K V nitro?

Sorry if this is the wrong thread, couldnt find anything in regards to the v nitro series.  Ive been looking at a new laptop to replace my V3-771g from 5 years ago and im looking at the V nitro series. The 2017 models are finally for sale but none have a 4K screen. I was wondering if this feature will be released on later models or not at all. Thanks

Answer:2017 4K V nitro?

Hi,  It is likely that 4K models will be released, however, acer hasn't confirmed this and it is only public speculation. The top tier models seem to have a GTX 1060, which isn't good enough for 4k gaming. I'd still recommend the 1080p version
