Thinkpad P51s/T570 support for Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock

Question: Thinkpad P51s/T570 support for Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock

Does the Thinkpad P51s support the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock? I have the Thinkpad P51s with stock Windows 10 Pro and updated to latest drivers and Windows version and installed the latest Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock drivers. Attaching the Thunderbolt 3 Dock to the P51s as described in documentation, it charges the notebook, however, noting attached to the dock is recognized. I've tested with attaching USB flash drives, headphones, Ethernet, HDMI, and DP, but nothing is recognized nor are any warnings/errors displayed in Windows. While the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock is listed as being compatible with the P51s and T570, the notebook order page does not list the Thunderbolt 3 Dock in any of the accessories lists. Lenovo Sales also confirmed that the Thunderbolt 3 Dock is fully compatible with the P51s. However, I needed to purchase the Thunderbolt 3 Dock separately from the notebook order. What's going on? Has anybody successfully used the P51s or the T570 with the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock? Or is this something I need to wait for full support via a future BIOS/driver update? Or perhaps my Thunderbolt 3 Dock is defective? Thanks,Boris

Preferred Solution: Thinkpad P51s/T570 support for Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a simple question, Can I run 2 external monitors using the Ultrabase series 3 with the X230 docked and the lid open? My goal is to be able to see basically 3 displays. The main one would be the laptop and the other two extended monitors connected to the dock stations. One connected with VGA cable and the other with display port cable. Any help is appreciated.  Sebastiano

Answer:ThinkPad Pro Dock, ThinkPad Ultra Dock, or ThinkPad OneLink Pro Dock - External Monitors

The X230 can support this configuration from memory.

Hi, Everyone. Got me a nice little x270 to replace my old x201.  Happy enough with the machine, but getting it connected to my accessories (monitor, keyb, mouse, ethernet) is a bit of a chore. This machine appears to have a "proper" dock port on the bottom.  Is there a compatible ultradock available for the model 20HN x270?  By proper - I mean, Not USB.  A nice dock I can simply drop the machine into when I'm at the home office.. Thanks!

Hello,I think of buying the ThinkPad T400 with one of these docking stations: ThinkPad Advanced Dock or ThinkPad Dock II.I have several technical questions and haven't found neither appropriate information, nor the way to get it.Here are my questions:1. Do these docking stations support DVI when T400 with integrated (not discrete) graphics is connected? 2. Where can I find a complete list of UltraBay devices supported by each one of these docking stations? Thanks

Answer:T400 with docking stations, ThinkPad Advanced Dock and ThinkPad Dock II

I have a T400 with integrated graphics and recently purchased the Advanced Mini Dock 250410U.  The Advanced Dock and Advanced Mini Dock support DVI pass-through.  I looked into this before purchasing as well. This page will confirm the feature:  http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-72148.  Also see reference guide for docking stations: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4TPJF4 which says ThinkPad Dock II is discontinued.  This brochure says the Advanced Mini Dock does not support Ultrabay, but the Advanced Dock does.  http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/options_iso/tp_docking_solutions_june09.pdf .

I contacted Lenovol support and they send me a replacement unit. The the replacement unit has the same problem. Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 docking station does not charge Thinkpad P51 battery.  I need to plug in the power adapter for both docking station and notebook.  Does anybody have similiar problem?

Answer:Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 docking station does not charge Thinkpad P51 battery.

Everbody's p51 would be the same.  The thunderbolt port won't work as a charging port.  The thunderbolt specs specify 100w max.  That's not enough.  Your thunderbolt port is not for charging.  To charge via the dock, you need a workstation dock, not a thunderbolt dock.  A thinderbolt dock can charge things like an x1 carbon (5th gen) or x1 yoga (2nd gen)

Hello, My company recently purchased a dual 4k setup for a work station. The setup is the following:2 ThinkVision P27 monitorsLenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 DockT570 (Type: 20HA) I setup the monitors and docking station yesterday and was able to power the displays using a X1 Carbon 5th gen (i5 model type: 20HQ) thru USB-C without issue. I have a user testing out the desk now with a T570. I'm able to get one monitor to funtion at 4K and the other is running at 1080p. If you check display settings I'm unable to increase the resolution to 4K. I've updated all drivers on the T570 including the display driver and thunderbolt docking station driver this morning and the system still fails to power dual 4K. I brought back the X1 I used previously and it powers the screens normally. I checked the specs of the T570 and its identical to the X1 as far as processor is concerned and the model page claims the USB-C port on the T570 can power dual 4K. What else can I try?

I am just going to guess that computer is trying to boot via USB, so you might try changing the boot order in the BIOS so that Windows Boot Manager or the HD is first.

I have a ThinkPad W520-4282. I want to use a ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 (170W) [pn 433830U] at work and a Lenovo USB 2.0 Port Replicator with Digital Video [0A33942] at home.I did not have to install any drivers for the Mini Dock and it worked just fine driving an external monitor. After installing the driver for the Port Replicator, I could no longer drive the external monitor when attached to the mini dock or the VGA+ video port on the ThinkPad.I played with a lot of things to fix the situation and nothing worked. I even uninstalled the driver for the Port Replicator and still could not drive an external monitor. In fact the laptop did not even recognize that an external monitor was attached.Later I found using the Device Manager that the NVIDIA Qadro 1000M display adapter was disabled, proabably during installation of the Port Replicator driver. Once I enabled that, I could drive an external monitor again. Can anyone tell me if this is normal? Will I be able to use the Port Replicator if I install the driver again?

Dear all, would like to inquire if X220 will operate with two external monitor? I'm ok to close the lid of my X220.The 4337 docks support VGA and DVI, will both work together? What's working:- I have been using x220 screen with another external monitor through VGA connection.- Connecting Dell 2340L direct to VGA works with X220 screen, not with 2 external monitor. What's not working:- Recently got a Dell 2340L which contains only VGA and HDMI, which I thought HDMI would work with an adaptor (HDMI to DVI) port - no response although the Windows 7 detects external monitor display.

When I dock the computer and press the power button on the dock it doesn't recognize my monitor as the main screen. I have to hit a key (Windows 10) and put in my password hoping that it's doing that and then the screen comes up. If I reboot after that ... THEN.... it recognizes my screen as the main monitor. How do I fix this? The only time this happens is when I use it off the dock and then put it back on. If it stays on the dock all the time it does just fine. Any fixes for this? Thanks...

The ThinkPad Multiple Monitor Configurations pdf (LINK) says the DVI port  on thinkpad Mini Dock Series 3 only support up to 1920x1200, but I would like to connect the DVI-D port to a external monitor with 2560x1600 resolution.  Will it work?  I am planning to buy a T420 with a discrete Nvidia Optimus video card and a mini dock series 3.  Yes, I can't use the display port because the external monitor only have DVI-D port.  I knew that the DVI-D port is able to support 2560x1600 resolution as long as the video card support it, I don't understand why the DVI-D port on the thinkpad mini dock series 3 can only support  up to 1920x1200 even though the Nvidia Optimus Technology is powful enough. Please share your experience and suggestions.  thanks.

I hooked the one Acer monitor directly to the monitor port, and it works perfectly.  I then hooked the other through a Triton SS2 Extreme UV200 External DVI/VGA Video Card as was recommended for me to do so.  The Triton has a USB plug which I then connected to one of the USB ports on the back of the docking station, and loaded the software.  Everything worked great but the 2nd monitor screen enlarges everything.  So I though I could just go into the control panel and adjust that monitors settings.  However, the system is only recognizing the monitor in the monitor port of the docking station.  In the connection directions, it says the 2nd monitor has to be connected to the other USB port that is not standard and is on the far left of the back of the dock with an emblem the has 2 "+" signs stacked on each other followed by a bold "D" (I think).  I have tried to see if there is an adapter to convert the standard USB to fit this other port, and no one has been able to help me.  Does anyone have any recommendations, idea's or knowledge of how to work through this?  Thanks.

Answer:Help with connecting dual monitors to the THinkPad Mini Dock 3 for my ThinkPad T 510

that is the Displayport, which can be converted to a DVI or VGA port using an appropriate adapter. But there is no USB adapter for the Displayport, as they use a different technology.

Hello,The laptop in question will not charge with the above mentioned dock when it previously did. If you shut down the mahcine and turn it back on when docked it works, but after this point if undocked and docked again it seems to lose it's ability to charge via the dock giving the "plugged in but not charging" message on the power system icon from the taskbar. As it stands the laptop can be charged by the AC port on the back and as mentioned when given a power cycle on the dock. The above issue happens on several docks with different power supplies. The laptop is no longer in warranty and it is possible to get this sent back and repaired (paying for the service) if that is an option. This is greatly inconvenient for the user affected and is causing disruption daily.

I currently have my ThinkPad T440s connected to two external monitors via the ThinkPad ProDock 40A10090US (One VGA and the other DVI-D). I currently have the two monitors and the laptop displaying separate desktops. However looking at the laptop screen is a pain when switching back and forth between the two large monitors and the laptop. I was curious if my current setup with the T440s and the Pro Dock (40A10090US) could support three monitors (One cloning the laptop screen)?

Answer:ThinkPad T440s + ThinkPad Pro Dock 40A10090US = Triple Monitor?

I don't know if you can use both the on-laptop DisplayPort and the dock DVI-D at the same time, but if you can, you should be able to get the three monitors of output you want. Not sure if you can force it to clone the laptop display, but you might as well skip the internal display entirely.

Is there a Graphics Adapter that will drive a second monitor that can be used in the ThinkPad Advanced Dock with a ThinkPad T61? Background:  I have a ThinkPad T61 (6465-CTO) running Window XP and a ThinkPad Advanced Dock.  I purchased a Lenovo 256MB ATI X1300LE Dual ? VGA or Dual ? DVI ? out PCI ? e Graphics Adapter so I could run two 24" (1920 x 1200) monitors.  I should have check notes on the X1300LE more carfully, for this configuration is not supported by Lenovo.  The failure mode is interesting.  The T61 can access a wireless router alone or in the ThinkPad Advanced Dock without the ATI X1300LE.  But if I install the ATI X1300LE in ThinkPad Advanced Dock I can no longer access the wireless router.  If I plug in the network cable then I can access the network.  In this configuration the Intel® Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN has a yellow circle with an ! on in the Device Manager.  The device status is ?This device cannot start. (Code 10)."  Note I have not tried the system with a second monitor yet.  Another option would be to keep the ATI X1300LE, and add a USP Wireless device.  Have anyone tried a similar configuration?  Sincerely yours, Marc

I bought ThinkPad T570 (Intel Core i7-7500U Kaby Lake / 16GB RAM / 512GB SSD / 15,6" UHD IPS /  Intel HD Graphics 620) with ThinkPad Pro Dock 90W 14 days back. In first I updated system to the last Win 10 Pro Creators Update - version 1703 (build 15063.250) which is declared to be fully supported.I expected that it will solve my need for next years, but I'm a little disappointed now, I have the following problems:Annoing background sound somewhere from motherboard, neverending random sound like tss, tsss, ... it looks like something connected with integrated video card, sometime it changes during scroll of web browser windowFrom begin lower half of display sometimes had some flicker issues and content was for short time replaced by some pattern. I updated all drivers to the last versions and now it appears occasionally.I am unable to use 3840x2160 / 60Hz display resolution on external monitor (27" BenQ BL2711U UHD 4K) via DisplayPort cable connected to dock. Monitor is detected, but no video is provided. But if I change resolution to 1920x1080 / 60Hz it is working. If I connect monitor to HDMI on notebook, then it is working on 3840x2160 but only with 30Hz. Other connections like VGA and DVI are also working but they are not able to provide 4k video.I am unable to use my S/N on support pages, it is unknown.

I replaced my Thinkpad P51s 500GB default hard drive with Samsung EVO 850 500GB SSD. However, after this upgrade, now my Windows 10 will freeze up after 10-20 minutes usage (doesn't matter light or heavy usage). Then mouse and keyboard do not respond at all and only way to recover is push and hold power button to power off. I installed Samsung Magician software and it shows that SSD is perfectly healthy (Rapid mode is off). I also ran Lenovo diagnosis software which reported no error. Also upgraded BIOS to latest 1.22 without any help on the issue. Does anyone have any suggestion I could try? Thanks.

Answer:Thinkpad P51s Windows 10 Freezing with Samsung EVO 850 SSD

Hi there, Taihu -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

It really sounds more like an issue with another component, since you've already replaced the SSD. Try it with different cables and a different SATA port, just to see if the same thing happens again.
Other than that, try your computer with just one memory module at a time to see if this keeps happening. Run a memory test as well, to see if there might be something wrong with your RAM.
Make sure that all the drivers for the hardware components are up to date.

Run a few tests from this link -
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/lenovodiagnosticsolutions/tools

You should try Storage test, memory test, motherboard test, CPU test. Open Command prompt and try sfc /scannow to check if your windows files are corrupted.

Update us how it goes.

Answer:Thinkpad T570 display panel manufacturer

Here we go again.  I returned a T440s laptop a long time ago that gave me brutal headaches.  I believe it was an LG screen. It was the high resolution screen, but it had a sparkly sheen to it and a giant reflective blob.  The AUO screen was the better one at the time.  I did some reading this week and see that it is like a screen lottery for the T470 series as to the quality and manufacturer of the screen that you might get.  It would be really sad if this issue hasn't been resolved in all that time.  I have a T470 coming next week (It actually left the factory yesterday, so that is a real date), so giving it another try and hoping the the 1080p screen doesn't have that issue and/or I get it from a decent manufacturer without any issues.

I've tried Windows 10 version 1607, 1703, and now have installed 1511 directly out of box from the cd. I've installed the drivers off of Lenovo's website and it still does not work. I have Windows Hello working for the finger print, but when I try to do a face scan it instantly fails saying "Sorry, something went wrong" "Couldn't turn on the camera. Make sure it's working properly". Does anyone know how to get the IR Camera to work on the Lenovo ThinkPad T570 for Windows Hello? I know that it was working originally and is not a hardware issue because when I received the device from Lenovo it was working. I since then applied an image of 1607, upgraded to 1703, and now have wiped everything and reinstalled 1511 from Microsoft's eOpen with no modifications other than installing drivers after the fact and it still doesn't work.

Hi, I just got a BSOD after clicking on a YouTube link on my fully patched T570, complaining about APC_INDEX_MISMATCH (win32kfull.sys). From what I can tell, this is likely related to a Realtek audio driver, even though I have the latest version already installed. Here's a similar thread for L560 and X260 BSODs: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-L-R-and-SL-series/APC-INDEX-MISMATCH-on-L560-and-X260/td-p/338.... And another for T460p: https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/4q9nbl/t460p_bsod_in_windows_7_x64_anyone_running_into/. However, the solution there was to update to 6.0.1.7855. My T570 is running 6.0.1.8142, so presumably, whatever the fix was is already in this version. And yet: BluescreenView doesn't even have a snapshot of the dump because it was stuck at 0% like that until I restarted it, so I can't show full details. Has anyone run into this issue on a fully patched T570? Is Lenovo aware?

Answer:APC_INDEX_MISMATCH BSOD (win32kfull.sys) on ThinkPad T570

I have not had that problem, but if the BSOD was not simply a quirk and continues to occur, there is a later driver available directly from Realtek (6.0.1.8186) that can be found under Quick LInks >> HD Audio Codec Driver at the link below. Realtek High Definition Audio Codecs [and driver]http://www.realtek.com.tw/Downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3 Note:  I am currently running 6.0.1.8186 (vs the 6.0.1.7910 available from Lenovo) on my H50-50 desktop without any problems, but do bear in mind that Lenovo has not yet completed its testing of this version on your system either. Cheers,

Hi guys, I bought the T570 with their cheapest SATA HDD so that I can clone it and upgrade myself, but once I popped open the back, I found that there's not an M.2 slot available for the upgrade drive (Samsung 960 Pro). According to the manual, https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1240407/Lenovo-Thinkpad-T570.html?page=139#manual, I need a converter of some sort, which I presume replaces the SATA cable and the mount for the much smaller form factor drive. I found this http://www3.lenovo.com/us/en/accessories/memory-and-storage/storage/HDD-BO-ThinkPad-M-2-SSD-Tray/p/4..., but it has 0 information on whether it's compatible with the T570, and whether this is what I need in the first place. Can someone help? Has anyone done this already? Can I pick it up somewhere so that I don't have to wait 5-7 days for it to arrive? I also have a 3-year NBD support contract, but after calling support, I am told they can't just come bring the part. Thank you in advance.

Answer:Upgrade ThinkPad T570 from SATA HDD to M.2 NVMe SSD (Samsung 960 Pro) - parts needed?

I just called Lenovo parts, sales support, and technical support once again, and nobody is able to actually give me any reliable information. I can't believe just how awful this aspect of Lenovo is. A helpful Redditor pointed me in the direction of these 2 parts if that 4XF0N82414 part doesn't work:https://lenovo.encompass.com/item/11092983/Lenovo/01ER035/C.a._M.2_Ssd_Adaptor_Ht_Lts-1https://lenovo.encompass.com/item/11096057/Lenovo/01AY476/Assembly_Bracket_M-ssd_W_thm_m These are both listed as compatible with the T570, but are not in stock and cost over 2x combined. It's also unclear if this is what I need to perform the upgrade or not.

Hello fellow users / Lenovo, In our office we have several X1 Carbons and several ThinkPad USB 3.0 Docks (0A33970) located all over the office. We typically bring our X1 Carbons around and use each other's Dock during the course of work. However, we recently face a problem with the Ethernet interface not working with other Docks, other than the Dock that the driver was installed with. Using other Docks, the Ethernet interface comes up as a generic Ethernet device with a yellow warning triangle inside Control Panel. Using the Dock that the driver was installed with, the Ethernet device works as normal. It should be pretty easy to replicate this behaviour, just get an X1 Carbon (fresh, Windows 8.1) and connect a USB 3.0 Dock to it, and install appropriate drivers.Verify that the Ethernet port works correctly. Next, disconnect the Dock and connect another Dock to the X1 Carbon. Observe that the Ethernet interface does not work, and see the yellow warning triangle icon under Control Panel. Uninstalling and Reinstalling the drivers with the new Dock doesn't work either. Only the Dock that the driver was originally installed with will work.

It seems that Lenovo has released today first infos of upcoming models including X270: http://www.anandtech.com/show/10940/lenovo-updates-the-thinkpad-lineup-new-models-welcome-changes I have been postponing laptop purchase because I want one with QHD or better resolution, thunderbolt3 and ability to charge with standard USB type-C charger. Now it seems that for some reason that I cannot understand Lenovo has still decided not to include QHD or QHD+ resolutions to quite many of the upcoming models, including X270, Yoga 370, Thinkpad 13 and T470. It is now already 4.5 years ago from the moment when Apple Released Macbook Pro retina with QHD equivalent resolution. In addition some of the articles claim that the new USB type-C port in X270 will NOT have thunderbolt3 availability. And it is like 5.5 years since Apple included thunderbolt. I really think we should start noise from this. If there will not be a serious portable workstation like X270 with QHD or better resolution and enough USB-slots (at least 3+1) and thunderbolt support I am seriously considering to switch away from Lenovo (e.g. Dell XPS 13). I know that some people prefer FullHD (e.g. for longer battery life) so there could be an option for both. I want QHD because 1. If you want to have two web browsers side by side without horizontal scroll bars you will need minimun QHD, 2. Because you can actually start to see details in pdf books without zooming 3. Because you can have large amou... Read more

Hi, I have the Thinkpad Twist S230u, in the specs it says it has a mini display port, but is this port a Thunderbolt? I read too many things in forums and I got mixed up.  I want to be sure it has.  The ultrabook uses the Intel 4000 integrated graphics. The reason is I want to plug something like the MSI GUS II in this port to have external graphics.  Will it work? Thanks!MaDube

It is a displayport only. Here is the list of ThinkPads that have thunderbolt ports. There are currently only two models of ThinkPad that have Thunderbolt ports. http://www.thinkscopes.com/thunderbolt-port-on-thinkpad-t430s/

I was wondering about the Thunderbolt device as there are no drivers at the support page and even the Solution Center/System Update Utility doesn't recognize the Thunderbolt device. As so it isn't listed in the Windows Device Manager. I made sure that it is activated in the Bios (Thunderbolt Enabled). When I plug in a second display via a Display-Port to DVI Adapter, the second screen is not recognized. So I guess the device/driver isn't even installed. Sadly I don't have another Thunderbolt device to test its functionallity.I try to buy the apple thunderbolt to firewire 800 adapter. Does anyone know if it will work with non-apple thunderbolt implementations?Any help is appreciated. Thanks, David

Hey Dagavie,

I believe that Thunderbolt is part of package and that is why you don't find as a stand alone download. What you can do is try uninstalling the video drive and installing the latest version.

Here is the link:
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page?

Also the device itself could need its own driver that you would have to get from the company its from. Like the monitor your try to connect.

Being as apple doesn't like to play well with others I can guess it wont work but this is just a guess and not a fact.

Best Regards,

Hiro

Dear All fellow,   I have a technical problem as below, hoping you can help me solve this issue.   Firstly, I had just purchased a Thinkpad T430s in previous days, it has a thunderbolt port and now I want to purchase IMAC 2012 "21.5" inch. But I want to transfer data between Thinkpad T430s and IMAC 2012 with thunderbolt port and also I want to use this iMac 2012 "21.5" inch as an external screen on my T430s with this thunderbolt ports. I don't know whether it can be workable or not.  Can you help give me some comments? Thanks for your help!!Andy Ling

Answer:Thinkpad T430s can connect to Apple IMAC 2012 "21.5" with thunderbolt port ?

Thunderbolt port gives you access to PCI and DP interfaces. DIsplayPort is output port only, so you can not "stream" output from your TP to MAC. PCI - should be possible, but I doubt that there is supporting circuitry for this. There is Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter that can be used to transfer data. EDIT: If you want to connect screen only then it is possible.

Hello,I noticed 2 new thinkpad docks were referenced: Thinkpad Basic Dock and Thinkpad Pro Dock, listed here. There's also new "ultra dock".They're designed for thinkpad t440s.But I wonder if they also work with thinkpad t431s?that would be logical because the old series 3 docks have former AC connector, whereas t431s has the new rectangular one... T431s Manual says that series 3 docks work with it though.

Answer:New Thinkpad Pro Dock

40-series system use completely new docks and have different docking connectors.  Physically the docking connector is smaller.

30-series system (including T431s) use the series 3 docks.

It looks like the website you linked was never updated for T431s but I can assure you that it uses the series 3 dock and not the new basic/pro/ultra docks.  Sorry for this confusion.

Will the ThinkPad USB 3 pro dock allow me to add two monitors to my Lenovo U31-70 laptop. this is not a ThinkPad. Just to be clear, i want to add two external (larger) monitors. without using the internal laptop monitor which is quite small for some of my work.  I have scoured the Lenovo website but it's so poor I just can't find any info on what laptop works with this dock. (unless you have some other solution to solving my problem) I also see there is a USB 3 Basic dock which is less expensive. will that one work? if  the cheaper one will do the trick, fine. I'm connecting to either DVI or VGA monitors, whichever works best.

Hi altownsend, welcome to the forum To be honest, I don't believe you need drivers for the dock, (surprises me that you found something). Just put your turned off TP in the dock, (with power attached), start your TP and the ports etc. will be recognised automatically by XP.If you have hardware in or attached to the dock, you will need drivers for these.Message Edited by andyP on 12-24-2007 11:25 AM

Hey, I just got myself a thinpad T440p and was planning on getting a docking station. Since i have never gotten one before i was confused on which one should i get. I wanted to get the thinkpad Ultra Dock but was confused on how i would determine if i should be getting the 90W, 135W or the 170W. I live in Canada, Ontario if it makes a difference. I was also curious, whats the main difference between the basic dock and ultra dock. Is it worth it for me to get the ultra for work? Thanks,Attiq

Solved!

Answer:Determining the right thinkpad dock

AFAICT, the majority of the difference is the available number of video ports. If you plan on attaching lots of displays, go for the Pro or Ultra dock. (Basic only has a VGA port.)The 90W dock will probably work fine, though if you plan on having a ton of peripherals attached, you might want the 135W. (AFAIK, the dock itself is the same; you just get a different wattage power adapter.)

Using a thinkpad P70 with the new workstation dock. If I put the P70 on the dock with the lid closed and press the power button on the dock the laptop powers up but nothing appears on the two display port monitors that are connected to the dock. If I put the P70 on the dock, open the lid and press the power button on the laptop then the laptop boots ok.  I can then close the lid and continue work off the two connected monitors. I want to know how I can avoid having to open and close the laptop lid since it kind of destroys the point of having a docking station. Had a W510 beforehand and it did not display this problem.

At this point, I am incredibly dissatisfied with both my Lenovo product (the Thinkpad Helix) and Lenovo customer support. I have written a great many forum posts and emails about problems with my thinkpad, and almost always either get no reply or a link to some firmware update that rarely fixes the problem.I am writing this post because I need to be able to purchase a replacement keyboard dock for my Thinkpad Helix. I have had numerous problems with it, and no matter how many forum posts I've made I have gotten but a single helpful solution for one of the many problems with this keyboard. I've decided that it would just be better to replace the dock and be done with this nonsense. My warranty has run out and I cannot replace the whole computer as it is all I have besides my phone, and I do not have the money to buy a separate laptop. So all I want to know is where I can buy a simple replacement for my keyboard dock. I have looked all over, but your site seems to be so poorly designed that all I can find on the web is an overpriced version that I cannot get and do not want. So if somebody, anybody, could point me towards a webpage, or order form, or email address, or SOMETHING I can use to buy a replacement for this broken one, I would be very thankful.

Hi! I have bought a T450s with Win7 and a ThinkPad USB 3.0 Pro dock recently and I have had some problems with the dock.BIOS and drivers are up to date on the computer and the dock can work sometime but only when the dock itself installs drivers from Windows update. If I disconnect the dock from the computer more than a couple of minutes it won't work again, it shows up on Devices and Printers but the external screen, ethernet, mouse and external keyboard wont work anymore. What I've discovered is:- When the dock works there is atleast 5 different things listed under the hardware tab of the device (can't remember what, and I can't get it working again)- When it's not working but the dock shows up on the Device and Printers there is only 2 things listed under the hardware tab, USB 2.0 nav and USB 2.0 nav. These are also listed there when it works.- I don't know why the dock doesn't run on USB 3.0 at any point.- When the dock works I can't update the firmware, it just says "No device found" when running the firmware update. What I've done so far:- Completely removed/reinstalled all drivers several times- Checked that BIOS is up to date- Checked in the BIOS if USB 3.0 is enabled- Sent the dock back to Lenovo and have gotten a new one, still same problem.Anyone have some ideas of what's wrong? Google and I'm running out of ideas..

I hear you. I have the same problem with a T460s. And so far i have done the same thing. However, it's working on other 2 computers same model without a single error. And also i have a Toshiba Windows 10 computer, that I just plugged in and the drivers were downloaded through Windows Update quick, it was completely a plug and play experience.  But on Windows 7 doesn't seems to work... I don't know what's going on. It still shows up  as USB 2.0 hub

This "freezing" seems to be happening only when dock is connected. On charger notebook boots up normally. And last note, this is happening only on "cold" start, restart works normaly. Problems started just after flashing new firmware to dock (v. 2.30) and BIOS update (v. 2.23). Today is my first day at my new desk and I am using a ThinkPad USB 3.0 dock, which is working surprisingly well. The only issue I am having is power.  The building is under construction and there are occasional power blips.  When the power flickers off and then on, the dock stays off. I simply turn the dock on and all is well.  But when I log back in, Windows detects new hardware.  Once the detection is done, all is fine. My corcern is with other people in the building.  We're looking to buy these things for the dual monitor configurations in our office.  I'm an administrator on my laptop, but most people are not.  I don't want them to be prompted for admin credentials after a power blip. Also, is there any way to have the dock turn on after loss of power has been restored, rather than stay off?

Hello, Could somebody help me with the solution for charging my laptop X1 Yoga for USB docking station, please? Thnak you, Marius.

Answer:x1 yoga not charge from ThinkPad USB 3.0 Pro Dock

USB 3.0 docks are not capable of powering a computer (unless some non-standard functionality is used, and even then only a small amount of power can be supplied). The only standards compliant way to power a computer from a USB dock is a USB type C dock with power delivery capability connected to a USB type C port on a suitable laptop. The X1 Yoga does not have USB type C, so the only dock that can power the X1 Yoga is the OneLink+ Dock. You will need to connect a power adapter as well as the USB 3.0 dock if you wish to power the X1 Yoga.

Hello. I would like to resolve my problem with my E540 with OneLink Dock Pro.  When dock is connected to my notebook and I press power button, backlight of display lights up, but display stays black, no lenovo logo, nothing... Sometimes it shows logo but it freezes on this logo too. When I disconnect dock, notebook boots up normally. I tryed to disconnect monitor, keyboard and mouse from dock too, but it has no effect. This "freezing" seems to be happening only when dock is connected. On charger notebook boots up normally. And last note, this is happening only on "cold" start, restart works normaly. Problems started just after flashing new firmware to dock (v. 2.30) and BIOS update (v. 2.23). I do not know what made this problems, because I was doing these updates together. Thanks for any answer...

Is there any official and correct information about supported multi-monitor configurations with new Thinkpads? I'm trying to get Thinkpad P70 with M3000M + Workstation Dock (with 230W) to display different images on two external 4K monitors (Dell P2715Q), and so far without any success. Using DisplayPort 1.2 cables, no MST. Windows 10. All works fine if I'm only connecting one monitor. Laptop screen and the monitor happily get to 4K resolution @ 60Hz. However, as soon as I connect the other monitor, one of the monitors switches to 1920x1080, and 4K resolution isn't available to choose for that monitor. If resolution is set [email protected] both monitors work, but I want 60.  Tried everything. Switching between Discrete & Hybrid in BIOS, clean Windows 10 install (on a separate drive), different cables etc. Same result.  Looking for explanations, went to nVidia Control Panel,  and it reports that BOTH monitors are hooked up to the same DisplayPort (attached)?! Can P70 drive two external 4K monitors @ 60Hz at all?

I've just bought a ThinkPad USB 3.0 Dock for my i7 X220 having been at a site last year which had Fujitsu PR08 USB 3.0 replicators - those, once I had installed the driver, worked perfectly with two 1920x1200 displays. Anyway I can't get my displays (LG IPS235 1920x1080), either via DVI-D or DVI-I with VGA adapter, to work plugged into the dock. They work fine when connected directly to the X220. I suspect this might be a USB 3.0 issue as it seems the support for USB 3.0 on X220 is not quite what I'd expected (e.g. see https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/X220-and-Mini-Dock-Series-3-with-USB-3-0/td-p...). USB devices connect via the dock, but at USB 2.0 speed (which apparently is to be expected). I can't see a network device at all (shouldn't it show up as another network adapter in adition to the built-in Intel 82579LM NIC?). I have removed displaylink software and ThinkPad Dock software (originally I went to the latest 1.7.15 but tried cleaning everything off and using the older version 1.07.04 (no luck) then upgrading to 1.7.15 again). I'm sure I read that this dock was compatible on a Lenovo spec somewhere. I have been through http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=HT073584 So far it's wasted a lot of time and been very disappointing - I'm kind of wishing I hadn't bothered  (I'm not sure if the supplier will take it back as I've opened the packaging etc). Has anyone had any more success with th... Read more

Answer:X220 and ThinkPad USB 3.0 Dock - any success?

A quick update:Under Windows 7 I couldn't get the dock to work at all well - basically it worked as USB2 hub and that it. This included a long call to Lenovo and reinstalling the ThinkPad dock softare several times, from both the original CD and the latest ones. Note I even installed the latest version of DisplayLink drivers (7.5M1) directly from their site which did work (core went from 7.5.5172.0 to 7.5.54051.0) but gave a useful warning that the USB3 host controller software (Renesas emulation stuff) might need updating (and I found a 2.1.39.0 version, compared to the 2.1.36 Lenovo version, which I tried too - installed but didn't help). DisplayLink also mentioned (here) that Windows 8 had a different way to deal with older USB3 controllers like Renesas.Anyway, I was all set to try send the dock back and thought I'd try Windows 8.1 (which I'd bought and was thinking of trying out on a new SSD).On Windows 8.1 the USB 3.0 Dock seems to work fine: display, network and USB ports. Currently I've even got 4 displays running off the X220: 2 x DVI-D in the dock, 1 VGA plugged into the X220 and the built-in screen. I don't suppose this would be any use for games, but for business work it seems to be working fine so far Note: I installed the latest DisplayLink driver again (mainly because I thought that I was missing transparent borders - turns out that's because Aero Glass has currently gone from Win8!). For anyone who's interested here's the USB section of device manager - le... Hello, Three quick questions related to fine tuning the USB Dock 3.0 with my new ThinkPad T430i laptop and existing LG Flatron 42043T monitor: 1)  How do I get the display to fill the entire space on the monitor?  Currently, the displayed content does not fill all the available space on the monitor.  There's black space around the displayed area.  I've tried pressing the AutoSet button on the monitor, but it doesn't changed the amount of space filled.  My operating system is Windows 7. 2)  What are the quickest and recommended ways to undock?  With a previous dock, the Shut down menu from the Microsoft menu provided an option of undocking.  There is no undocking option on that menu now.  I've been putting the laptop into sleep mode and unplugging the USB 3.0 connector from the laptop.  This seems slow and I am wondering if there is a better way. 3) Would someone confirm that the Dock does not charge the laptop?   Thank you  in advance,SS

Answer:ThinkPad USB Dock 3.0 Configuration Questions

1. What resolution are you using on the LG flatron, also are you using it in clone or extended mode?2. There is a undock button on top of the USB Dock 3.0 press that, it will initiate the undocking behaviour.3. It doesn't charge your laptop battery.

Hello everyone.  I just purchased a new Helix with the Intel HD 4000 video chip.  I also purchased the thinkpad usb 3.0 dock.  My monitors will support resolutions above 1920 x 1080; however, none of the dialogs will allow me to configure my resolution for anything higher than 1920 x 1080.  I've connected the two monitors to the dock via dvi cables.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  I'm accustomed much higher resolutions. My Helix is configured with 8GB of RAM, 256GB SSD, and the Intel HD 4000 graphics adapter.

Answer:What's the max resolution for thinkpad usb 3.0 dock with helix?

ThinkPad USB 3.0 dock supports single link dvi resolution (which is around 1920x1200 or 1920x1080 at 60 hz), so if you have something like a monitor that supports dual link dvi resolution (i.e. 2560x1440 or 2560x1600), you would need to use your Helix's own miniDP.

Hi to all, I have a new chalange  I have aquired a brand new thinkpad Yoga and onlelink dock, is was the first time I bought Lenovo and I'm reaally very disapointed. So far each day a new problem, since the cursor when connect to an external monitor move alone, etc.. My biggest problem so far is the onelink dock, when connect the laptop is always detecting the hardware in the dock, making that each 30 seconds you have a network card, then dont.....or the usb devices, etc...... I really appreciate some help on this, does someone also have this problem ? I have tried do update all software and drivers from the PC and dock, and still no sucess, does the solution pass by aquiring a HP or Toshiba ??????

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga with Onelink Dock

I have the Onelink (basic) dock, and problems seem to be related to the ASIX AX88179 embedded USB3 to Ethernet controller. The System can't start the hardware then constantly tries to restart the driver. The USB2 version of this hardware (ASIX AX88178) works fine with the TPY as a dongle I had laying around.I bet it is a crappy driver from ASIX that is the root of many problems. So, try disabling the Ethernet controller in Device Manager and see if that helps.Don't know, I'm trying to return my dock to B&H right now.So, what is the embedded hardware in the PRO?Deleting the driver for the USB2 version doesn't help either.

Hello everyone, I just ordered a week ago a new Thinkpad W700 with the W700 Mini Dock 1.0 (43R8782) and I am still waiting anxiously to receive it. Today I have received an email from Lenovo telling me my order was modified and the Mini Dock was cancelled because of EOL (End Of Line?). I went back to the Lenovo Web site and I found the same Mini Dock still listed and available for ordering. I also found a new Mini Dock 2.0 (57Y4345) for the same price but the 170W power supply (41R4421) is not included. The power supply cost an additional 100$. Of course there is NO difference between the old model and the new one beside the fact that the power supply is not included anymore. Now I do understand Lenovo need to make some money somewhere, but isn't against the law to do something like this? I do think here in Quebec there is something called false representation or taking advantages of the customer? If the new docking station was alot cheaper I would probably bite the bullet and just order it, but this is crazy. Am I the only one here that think that there is a problem with this? Especially since I already placed my order in good faith and even when they tell me it's not available anymore it's still listed as available on the website? What can I do about this? Thanks for your thoughts. Alain HogueMontreal, Qc ------------------------Current Laptop: Thinkpad A31p, Pentium 4 - 2Ghz, 100GB HD, 2GB RAM, 1600x1200, Win XP S... Answer:ThinkPad W700 Mini Dock 2.0

ahogue,

Thanks for purchasing the W700....I do not think you will be disappointed.

To answer your question, there is a difference between the two versions of the Port Rep.

From the product description, there is the following line:

Supports ThinkPad 170-watt and 230-watt AC adapters

This version of the Port Rep will also support the new 230-watt power supply for the next generation of W700.  Since this Port Rep supports two different power supplies for two different generations of W700, you would use the AC adapter that came with your system.

One reason being....you would not want to dock your 170-watt W700 to a 230-watt power supplied Port Rep...it was not designed for that amount of current.

I'm not sure why the older Port Rep would still be available for purchase if you received an email stating it was End of Life.  Sounds to me like the sales website needs to be updated.  If you could, send me a PM with the contents of the email you received and I can make some inquiries.

Regards

New P50 user here.   Computer is very nice,  I have many HP Zbooks at my company, they have been mostly trouble free but I wanted to give lenovo a try.  This machine has alot of good features except for this docking station!  I am running Win7 Pro,  I have sucessfully installed a Samsung 960 Evo M.2 Drive and cloned the 500 GB WDC drive that came with the computer.  Everythig on the computer itself operates well,  I have all the normal windows updates, and all of the critical and important lenovo updates per the solution center. Lenovo Service Bridge will not install for some reason.  So that has been the one other difficulty I am having. Docking Problem:  I have been unable to get the USB ports work on the dock to work due to a driver/software issue I cannot find the right drivers to use  on the lenovo website When I lay the P50 in the Dock or boot it up on the dock it will say Lenovo ThinkPas WS Dock Driver not found/not installed correctlyLenovo ThinkPas WS Dock Driver not found/not installed correctly   Says it twice once for 2.0 USB and once for 3.0 I am assuming.   It seemed to install correctly on the first dock but no USB were working so i went to Device manager and uninstalled now they won't come back. Which could be my mistake.  I followed some info I saw online about trying that. Can anybody help in locating a suitable drivers to try manually? I tried ... Read more

This is a rock-hard question:Problem: I've an older, but oh-so rockin X40 (this is a gem of a notebook), however I need to upgrade the BIOS for some reason, but I've neither an USB cd rom nor a docking station for this small companion, but an USB HDD. I know how to make the USB bootable etc... but how can the notebook interact with the BIOS files ? Thanks in advance!

Answer:How to update the BIOS of an old IBM Thinkpad x40 without CD/Dock only with USB HDD

you could install lenovo's system update and let it update the bios for you.  what os are you using?  just be careful. you need a fully charged battery and have it plugged into power.  if you use system update, update JUST the bios, don't choose a bunch of other updates along with the bios. the update will turn the machine off during the update. follow the prompts and when it runs, don't touch the mouse, or any other keys, don't shut the lid, don't touch the laptop at all.  I've seen a lot of laptops bricked during a bios update. this forum is full of them. the safest way is with a bootable floppy disc. if you're running windows 7 then read the post at the beginning of the windows 7 discussion first.  i've used system update every time so far and i haven't had any problems. 2 x40's, 4x41's and 3 x32's.

yes the mini dock is good for T60 and R60 series, but unfortunately your x3100 will not support DVI output on your mini dock... due to bios restriction.
