Lenovo Thinkpad 13 '16 Model Battery Upgrade

Question: Lenovo Thinkpad 13 '16 Model Battery Upgrade

Hello, I'm having some poor battery performance on my Thinkpad 13 (~4 hours average battery life). I've used the lenovo application and found that my battery still has its full capacity/capability. I often run my 13 on the 'power saver' battery option. I'm also often having issues with significant battery drain even while the laptop is in 'sleep' mode. Does anyone have any suggestions for these issues? I am considering upgrading my battery, though I'm not sure which battery to buy--which batteries are compatibe and which ones would give me a significantly longer battery life. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Battery Issue - Lenovo V570 (Laptop) - Battery Model L09S6Y02

First off I for the most part do not use the battery. It is normally detached from the laptop. I only attach it to periodically charge it and test prior existing charges' performance.

O.K. here is the problem. I attach battery attachment, computer does not make it to the window screen more often than not. When it does, it freezes at the please wait loading screen.

I rarely use the battery at all, but I want all my equipment up and functional. It's life should still be good for I periodically recharge it. I think since I've had the laptop I've only recharged it a total of 6 or 7 times and that's been a year or so.

I, for the moment at least have the battery working power adapter attached. What did I do? I uninstalled Avast (freeware version) ?

I learned from prior experience that running two of any system utility software can cause problems, but it normally restricts itself to what it is protecting. Then I remembered: "If you remove the possible whatever is left however in probable must be the truth."

Next phase of testing is test the battery on it's own.

I am facing the below given 2 problems with the battery of a brand new lenovo U41-70 i5 Red model.

1. The plugged in but not charging error. Some suggestions in the web ask the user to remove the battery and change some stuff in the device drivers, but in my model the battery is not removable.

2. The battery dissipates a lot of charge while in complete switched off mode (not in sleep, nor hibernated). I have also disabled the windows fast boot mode from the power options, but doesn't work.
To give an estimate, in approximately 9 hours of shutdown (and the charging removed) the battery dissipates from a full 100 to 70%.

Note: I have updated the laptop which came with Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. Hence, the system is running on windows 10 now. The laptop is 10 days old.

Greetings, I have perused many sites and still I am not quite sure if the Lenovo ThinkPad R61 model 77333GG does Virtualization natively. Please come forward and confirm or infirm same. best wishes,J

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad R61 model 77333GG

If it uses the Core 2 Duo processor and has a GM965 intel chipset then it should support it. From the spec of your machine, it looks to be supported, since you are using the T8xxx series of penryn cpu.

All is well and I have had great service from this laptop for almost 5 years  but running out of hard drive capacity..don't want to upgrade my current ThinkPad  because I want it for a second laptop. I DO want another ThinkPad but which model and what features? Would like to hear from anyone interested...what would you buy and why? Have been considering T530 with i5-3210 Processor running Windows 7 Pro. I do not want a touchscreen and do not want Windows 8 at this time. I am not a gamer. Most serious computing is editing of photos with Adobe Photoshop Essentials and creating videos with Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.0. My current box does these OK but sometimes Adobe crashes especially when I leave several jpegs open. Vegas generally works well but rendering is slow and sometimes crashes especially if the video is longer than 10 minutes.  Have been reading the forums looking for ideas ....have a couple of questions: Will the 16 GB mSATA SDD do anything for me as it comes shipped from Lenovo ? I don't want to change it out for something else and do not want to get into any techie stuff to make it work. I understand the concept of caching. Will it do anything on bootup?  What about the NVIDIA graphics card....do I need it for what I am doing? Any thoughts or suggestions would be welcome.  Thanks,  JimP77

Answer:I have a ThinkPad R61 Model. I need to upgrade. What should I buy?

16 gigs mSATA will make your apps startup faster than without it. For example, on my X230 without the cache drive my Words start in around 15 seconds, with the cache it starts in 3 seconds. This is also true for other apps like Adobe Creative suite etc. For photoshop and videos software you got, it isn't really necessary, as this Nvidia GPU isn't really all that powerful.

So I got myself the Lenovo ThinkPad W510 the other day, specific model being "431929G", along with it I got myself a 9-cell battery instead of the included 6-cell as well as this additional "slice battery" solutions which you attach at the bottom of the computer using the docking port it seems? The box which this slice battery came in was marked model 57Y4545, the piece of battery inside however says FRU: 42T4739? I guess and hope it's the same thing?  It does attach to the bottom of my W510 without any issues whatsoever, I lock it in place so I get that green indicator which should mean it's supposed to function? But it doesn't.. ThinkVantage Power Manager do pick up the battery but it's just standing there at 12% battery with no activity? Even after the main 9-cell is fully charged it wont start to charge the slice battery? I did even remove the main 9-cell in order to see whether or not that would change anything, but it didn't? And if I remove the power cord when running only the slice battery the W510 will just drop dead? So it's not charging, neither is it providing my W510 with any more battery life? It just sits the with 12% battery with no activity whatsoever, no charging or usage at all?

Answer:ThinkPad Battery 27++ (9cell) 57Y4545 wont work with my Lenovo ThinkPad W510?

Are you sure you're running the latest power manager? I.e., have you updated all the system drivers, os drivers, bios, etc.?

I am trying to get access to the CMOS battery but it appears from the manual that I need to remove the keyboard which requires removing the nameplate. I can see that you need to lift up each end of the nameplate, but I don't understand how the middle comes up. There is an arrow showing that the nameplate lifts up in the middle but I cannot see how and which direction to lift. I have not tried too much pressure for fear of breaking the nameplate. Any help or assistance would be appreciated.

Answer:Replace CMOS battery in Lenovo 1400 452 Model 2611

Hi, I don't go into this forum much since I use a newer machine now, but the old i Series still works so I poke around with it every now and then. I went through the steps to remove the nameplate (referred to as the "middle cover and launch key assembly" in the Hardware Maintenance Manual I downloaded from the Lenovo site).  After lifting off the clear plastic cover over the launch keys (using the pry hole in the front center) and lifting off the key label template, I lifted up the left and right ends of the next key label panel to expose two screws.  After removing these, there are two screws on the back of the machine (above the display and USB ports) that need to be removed.  Then you need to have the LCD open before you pop this cover you just unscrewed as it needs to lift up and in toward the keyboard.  The next step is to pry the end of this cover nearest the power button up with a small screwdriver and the whole panel that these 4 screws held down will come up.  Don't lift too far as there is a connector under this panel.  Flipping this panel upside down from back to front over the keyboard exposes this connector.   Hope this helps (and doesn't come too late to prevent breaking the nameplate).Message Edited by ucyimb4u on 04-20-2009 02:16 PM

No Effect. 2) Open up the backside, remove the battery cable (and battery), remove the power cable, and power discharge by pressing the power button. Turn on the laptop using just the Power cable. No Effect. 3) Remove the heatsink, clean it and then reapply the Thermal paste. No Effect. 4) Remove the hard disk and then try turning on. No Effect.  Despite trying all these steps, the effect is still the same. I honestly do not ahve any idea what to do now. Can anyone suggest something?  Any help would be appreciated!Thank You!

Despite the manufacturer's claim of 7 hours battery life on my Lenovo Ideapad 320S-14IKB - 81BN (S/N: MP1CHQTJ), I only get around 3-4 hours. This is with light usage, Reddit, a little bit of youtube etc. CPU usage was mostly around 0-5% the entire time. This was with the max CPU state in power settings reduced from 100% to 85%. However, I do have the screen at 100% brightness. As a different test, I tried doing (almost) nothing (apart from keeping the screen bright), and got 6 hours out of the battery. Is there a simple solution to increase this? It's only a 30 Wh battery (2 cell). Maybe in the future, a 60 Wh (4 cell?) one will come out for this model?

As per the query we understood that you are looking for memory up-gradation for your ThinkPad T520.

Your system supports maximum up to 8Gb RAM as per the Detailed Specification, so you have to look for 4Gb RAM only. But some user have checked with upgrading the memory to 16Gb and is working fine.

Please click on the below post for further assistance on memory up-gradation.

Regards, I need to consult on an Ideacentre K410 desktop model: MTM-11681CU. This model has the factory preinstalled Windows 7 Home and brings the i3-2120 Dual Core 3.3Ghz processor which I understand is Sandy Bridge microarchitecture. The query is about updating the maximum CPU that my machine can support and is compatible. According to the hardware manual of my PC says that this model can carry two types of processors: the one I have is i3-2120 and the i5-2320 which is Quad core but is 3.0 Ghz. In the same manual later is the same machine, the K410 but that brings pre-installed windows 8. This brings different processors than the one I have, but I am interested if the i7-3770 that brings as an option this last machine would work to which I have. Looking for information and found that the one I have is Sandy Bridge as I mentioned earlier and the CPU i7-3770 is Ivy Bridge. Check the manufacturer and there is no BIOS update. My question is this i7-3770 processor would work on my pc that comes from the factory the i3-2120 that is Sandy? I would like to upgrade the CPU from my pc to the Max that I can support, but I will have to settle for the i5-2320 ... Thanks for your help.

Hello everybody, I have acquired as mentioned in the title the Lenovo Yoga 300-11IBR Model 80M1 notebook for taking notes in class. It comes with a pre-installed 500 Gb SSHD. Because of the heat generated by the SSHD inside a no-fan laptop and the always on the move nature of classes I would preffer a more shock-resistant solution like an SSD. I tried changing it with an OCZ Vertex450 128Gb SSD I had in my desktop pc but it was not detected by the system. I have "used google" the last past days but no concrete answer was found. Not really the most popular laptop I guess, or still too new...Can you more tech-savy guys please help me to understand what I am doing wrong and if it is possible to install an SSD in my notebook? Thanks

I need help with upgrading my new Lenovo Flex laptop to an SSD drive, and a better wifi module. I have a Lenovo Flex 2-15, Model Name:20405 I tried to upgrade this laptop to an Intel SSD 530 120GB series using  Intel's Data Migration Software and an external USB 3.0 SSD nclosure. It failed, the failure accures when the computer restarts and tries to copy the data from the hard drive to the SSD, the data migration software says that the USB 3.0 SSD enclosure fails to innitialize. I have tried two other, completly different USB 3.0 SSD enclosures and it fails with to innitialize all of them. I have also tried all the above scenarios with an Intel 730 Series 240GB SSD and it also failed. 1. How do I upgrade this laptop to an SSD? 2. Will this laptop support an m.2 7260.NGWWB Wireless Adapter IEEE 802.11ac adapter?

My new Lenovo B50-30 Touch Model 20383 will not accept a memory upgrade.  The unit shipped new with 4GB RAM.  I have tried Crucial (using online scanner), PNY and Samsung DDR3 12800S SODIMM.  The symptom is a blank screen when trying to boot.  The only memory it will work with is the memory the notebook delivered with.  For example, in trying to troubleshoot, I put the purchased SODIMM in the either slot by itself and it will not boot. I called Lenovo Technical Support and they indicated that this model notebook will only accept memory on a white list. They said the notebook, upon boot, checks the PID of the memory, and if it is not on a white list, the system will not POST. I am having a hard time believing that Lenovo is forcing users to buy Lenovo branded memory.  I know that they did this with internal wireless cards, however, I can understand that more because of FCC rules and radio transmitters. Can anyone help me on this issue?  Has anyone else heard of memory being whitelisted? Thanks in advance!

I am generally a Mac user, but wanted a PC to run a few apps I can't run on my Mac, and didn't want to partition my drive and use Boot Camp (I'd done this previously, and chose not to do it this time). A few days ago I purchased a Lenovo 110-15ISK laptop, model number 80UD0017US. I had been looking at an HP laptop, but read that it was not so user friendly when upgrading the RAM and hard drive, and passed on that one (for that specific reason), and saw this Lenovo in the local Best Buy on sale. I usually check things out pretty throughly before I purchase, but I have to admit, I didn't on this purchase. Although the laptop is nice, I was not pleased to find out that you pretty much have to disassemble half of the computer to be able to access the memory and hard drive. Not exactly what I was hoping for. Anyway, I've decided to leave the hard drive as is, since it's a 1TB (although I prefer SSD and upgraded my MacBook Pro to an SSD on day 1 and love it!). However, I definitely want to upgrade the RAM from 4GB. I was a little horrified to find out that the 4GB is soldered onto the motherboard, and that there's only one available slot for RAM. I've read up a bit on it, on both this forum and through Google and Bing searches, and it seems there are differing opinions on how much RAM this model can accept and still be stable. Some say it can take as much as a 16GB DDR4 stick bringing the memory up to 20GB, and some say that the max is a 4GB stick, bringing the RAM u... Read more

Hello!I bought my Edge 420 two years ago and really love it. But after installing WIndows 8.1 battery life decreased for 2.5-3 hours from one battery charge. I don't wanna back to Windows 7, because I like new OS without any lag and problem. Not long ago I read about 9-cell battery and want to buy it. But where? Which store or place do you recommend for buying? And I know, that batteries capacity may go down because of time (laptop sales have begun in 2011). Should I buy new 9-cell battery? Or just forget about it and continuing using my old 6-cell?Thank you for replies!

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad E420. 9-Cell Battery.

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Capacity of a battery declines as the battery ages, with the number of charge cycles and time at high temperature. Under average usage patterns your battery maintains approximately 70% of its power capacity after the first year of operation.

If you feel that the battery backup is too low, try doing a battery firmware upgrade and BIOS update. Check the Lenovo support site for any battery firmware updates for your particular model.

Refer this knowledgebase which explains some tips to improve battery backup.

Still if you feel like getting a battery replacement, I would suggest you to contact Lenovo technical support. I'm sure they would be of great help.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

I have a Lenovo X230, running Kubuntu 14.04. When I disconnect the slice battery at the bottom the system resets, it's very annoying. What's worse is that it seems like jostling the system, also can cause it to power cycle. I don't really have a need to remove the slice battery very often, but essentially if I put the laptop into standby, and put it in by laptop knapsack, the system is off after I get where I'm going. Thoughts? I saw somewhere that allegedly, when you unlock the battery, some thinkpad utility gets notified to switch the power, I wonder if the hotplug is a software only solution, and not doable in standby. Steve Ramage

Hello again, I know I haven't posted in a while, but I have a computer problem. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad W500 running Windows 7 Home Premium, and I recently cleaned out the hard drive. I reinstalled the operating system and last night, the battery charged 100%, and a few hours ago, when I plugged the charging charging cord into the computer and turned the computer on, and the computer said the battery was at 5% charge, plugged in but not charging. (P.S. I installed the itunes 64 setup file to set itunes back up again.) The computer said that there were problems with the battery and I should consider getting a new battery. The charging cord is plugged into the computer, and I intend to have the charging cord plugged into the computer overnight. Should I? And what site or store should I go to to get a new battery? Do I need a new charging cord? Or is there is a way to solve it without getting a new charging cord ot battery? Any help would be greatly appeeciated.

Hello Guys, Since I couldn't find any solution for my problem, I decided to write here, hoping that someone (either from team Lenovo or from the users) have the same problem and therefore can help me. I have a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 13 model (version 0217). (I bought it from a friend, since it was not shipped anymore when I decided to buy it.)I have problems with my battery. The design capacity of it is 62.12 Wh, I used it wisely, so it wasn't always charged up to 100%. I always discharge it down around 5-7% and then plug in the AC adapter. (See image.)  My first problem is that in the last 3 months, the capacity is gone down to 45.88 Wh and I can't really figure out why. Can this be a generic problem with the battery? My second problem is - for which I've found another topic here but it didn't help me - that when I charge the battery, charging stops at 99%, showing "3 minutes is remaining" and if I unplug and replug the adapter, it stops as 99% saying it is fully charged. In the battery maintenance, I changed the settings from "Always fully charge" to Custom, but still, it won't charge up the battery fully.  My third problem is that I updated the BIOS of my laptop some days ago and when I try to search for a battery firmware update or when I do a battery gauge reset, the system suddenly shuts down without any warning or whatever. I would really appreciate if someone could help me with this, I really love my laptop but it really bugs me..... Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 13 (0217) battery problem

1) Battery do wear out eventually, you already have 234 cycles on the battery. So the battery capacity drop in the latter part of the cycles count is quite normal. It is nature of these battery to wear out. 2) For thinkpads, this behaviour is quite normal, this helps to prevent unnecessary wear on the battery cell. Once you use your battery back to say 95% or so, it will recharge back to 100%. 3) Are you saying that your laptop no longer works or that it intermittently shuts down?

I upgraded my Lenovo Thinkpad T410 from 4GB to 8GB RAM a while ago. The new memory seems to work without a problem, but the battery has started acting up.

Sometimes the laptop won't start unless the charger is plugged in, even though the battery monitor says 98% full after starting. If the charger is pulled off after this, the laptop shuts down instantly.

Sometimes the computer does start without the charger plugged in, but it might randomly shutdown at some point, again instantly as if the battery had been removed while running.

Could this be somehow caused by the RAM upgrade? Or is it more likely the battery or the connection between the battery and the laptop is broken?

Specs:
Lenovo T410
Windows 7 / Ubuntu 16.04 dual boot
Intel i7 M620
Intel Ironlake Mobile graphics
8 GB RAM
500 GB HDD

I just upgraded my R61i from a T2370 to a T8100.  I have also added 4 GB's of 667Mhz RAM and a 120 GB SSD.  The computer is very fast now and I love it.   However, now my battery went from 2 hours of life to 30 Minutes!  One thing I did not do was update the BIOS to Middleton.  Everything worked out of the box, so I thought I wouldn't need to. Anyone know how to fix the battery issue?

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Twist s230u 3317U battery issues...

Hey there shiv309,

There is an excellent thread by CT809, that led to a solution for this very problem.

Re-installed Lenovo Settings Dependency Package and the Power Management Driver, then when I rebooted and went into Lenovo Settings, this option popped up. Ensure that its placed to "fully charge".

Hopefully this solves the issue for other users going forward.

I hope this gets your Battery issue solved shiv309, and I look forward to hearing back from you on your progress!

Good afternoon all,

I have been in the process of making my laptop, a Lenovo Thinkpad T410, a much better device to use. While I've been having HDD issues, my main issue right now is the battery that I had purchased. With the IBM Power Manager software, the battery is listed as a Sanyo 42T4710. It is a 9 cell battery and I will provide any other information you need.

When I had first purchased the device, after charging for awhile the battery icon on the laptop would begin to flash amber. It will not charge to 100%, and usually stops at 96%. With the battery manager, the charge threshold is set to "Always Full Charge (Start when below 96% and end at 100%). I tried to run the battery gauge reset option, however the laptop permanently stayed at 96% and never discharged lower than that.

Are there any recommendations that you can make for what I should do with the battery?

Thanks!

I received my Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Yoga 2gen (i7, OLED). Unfortunately the CPU usage is constantly around 30% (reaching up to 100%), the fan is on all the time and the battery is empty in 2 hours. The main reasons for the high CPU usage are the following three programmes:- Sophos web intelligence (which I have to have installed according to my employer)- WMI provider host (I tried deinstalling it, but then I can no longer access the network drives)- Synaptics TouchPad 64-bit EnhancementsAny ideas what I could do to solve the issue? Thanks!

After upgrading to windows 8, I've noticed that my E530 laptop battery life has decreased by alot. It used to be able to run for 2-3 hours while browsing the internet, but now, it only lasts approximately 1-2 hours. This may be because I have no power manager installed ( can't find the windows 8 version ). Anyone know how I can possibly fix this?

Answer:Thinkpad E530 short battery life after Windows 8 upgrade

Hi, Hardy

I would agree that the lack of a power manager being installed is likely the root cause of your now-shorter battery life. I was able to locate this document that can assist you with finding the driver for Lenovo Power Manager. Select "Power management" from the first drop down menu and select "Windows 8" from the second.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Hello,  I have ordered the "Lenovo Thinkpad T530" with only the 4gb option in it and would like to personally upgrade it to 16 Gb.   (link to laptop) http://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-ThinkPad-T530-23594LU-Notebook/dp/B00BFFAY9Q/ref=cm_cd_ql_qh_dp_t When searching for compatible ram I found ram ranked at 1.35v and 1.5v and would like to know if any differences would come from going 1.35v opposed to the 1.5v pre-installed in the laptop and if it is even compatible.  If 1.35v is compatible with the t530, I found this (2x8gb) ram for ~$140: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231705    .... any reviews on it and compatibility with my laptop?  I'm also open to any other options if you in the Lenovo Community can help me with ram/general upgrade.
