Ideapad Z510 turns off when charger plugged in - battery still charging

Question: Ideapad Z510 turns off when charger plugged in - battery still charging

Hello, I have a 3 yr old Ideapad Z510(that came with Win8)which worked absolutely fine until recently. If I plug in the charger when the laptop is on, it abruptly turns off and would never boot again until I remove the charger. However, this is not how it behaves every time. There are some rare instances where I could still operate the machine with charger plugged in. When turned off, battery is charging and also goes to full 100%. When turned on(battery mode) it does not drain rapidly - I could still get a fairly decent stand up time. So I am assuming the battery is good. I don't see any thermal issues either. Things I tried:-------------- > Tried with a different charger - no help.> Updated the firmware - no help.> Update the entire driver pack - no help.> Applied windows patches, reinstalled and also upgraded windows to Win 10 - no help.> Reseated the battery and associated cables - no help. I am not sure if there is anything that I could do to at least diagonize the problem before I give it to the service station. Any pointers on this is much appreciated Thanks much in advance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello. First of all, thank you for taking the time to view my post and potentially help me out. So the problem is that my laptop will not start. I was using my laptop here one day and it was working fine, but it was unable to charge for some reason and ended up shutting down so I went to bed. The next morning I tried turning it on, but it was dead. I have tried a different charger as my sister also has a lenovo laptop, but this did not work either. I would think if the battery was the problem, the laptop should still be working with the charger in? I have tried calling support line several times with no answer, the warranty has gone out and I forgot where i bought the laptop sadly. Really frustrated over here, and any help is highly appreciated!

I have an ideapad z510 which I have been using without any problems for the last 2 and a half years or so. For the last few weeks, it won't turn on if it's unplugged: the lights under the keyboard turn on for a brief moment, so does the power button, but then it all stops. When I plug it in, the first time I press the button it doesn't turn on either (same behaviour as when unplugged) but on the second attempt it turns on propperly. Once running, I can unplug it and it will keep working propperly.  What could be going wrong? How could I fix it?  For your interest: I cannot (easily) remove the battery, in case that matters.  Thank you for your help Leo

Hi leocasasola,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can start with the power check out guide from the hardware manual (page 21-22) testing on the integrity of the AC adapter and operational charging to isolate.

Further steps may require certain tools and skill as board level checking (power board , systemboard ports and chips etc.), so it would be best that you take time to back up your data while you can and check on your local service center.

Hi,So this Lenovo G700 Laptop is a few years old but before I received it, it had been used only a handful of times. I have recently been on holiday and before I left I unplugged my laptop from the mains and so the battery ran down to nothing. I came home and plugged it back in again, turned my laptop on and now it is telling me that I have the wrong battery or battery charger and so it will not charge. However, I know for a fact that both the battery and the charger are the ones that came with the laptop when my stepfather bought it new around three years ago. Any ideas would be helpful! Thanks

Does the computer power on with the AC adapter and without the battery? If no, does power indicator light on the AC Adapter lit up ? Do hear a series of beeps or see any lights on the system? By the way, what your Dell model number and version of windows? Example: Dell Inspiron 3543, windows 10

Answer:Problem with Lenova Ideapad Z510 Battery not charging

In response to customer reports of unexpected issues with battery performance on Z500 and Z510 laptops, Lenovo is making a battery firmware update available via download from the Lenovo Forums.

This battery firmware is intended to resolve the following unexpected charging symptoms when a Z500 or Z510 laptop is powered on:

Battery is dead
Battery is not detected
Battery is detected and charged to 100% but when AC power is removed, the laptop immediately powers off
When the battery is fully charged and AC power is removed, battery level falls dramatically within 10 minutes

Please note a step-by-step procedure for upgrading the firmware is included in the .zip file, found in the "ReadMe" folder.

The battery firmware update can be downloaded here: https://download.lenovo.com/lenovo/content/sm/z500_z510_battery_firmware_update.zip

All, my Inspiron 15 5000 15-5545 is having an error with the battery charger saying that it is not recognized and that the charger will not charge my computer.  I know that this is an official Dell charger (it is the charger that came with the laptop) - so there shouldn't be an identification issue.
I have noticed that there is a pin problem, however.  There are six pins in the laptop charging port (2 for charger identification in the middle and the four other pins that connect to the charger itself at the 3, 6, 9, and 12-o'clock positions).  Whenever I plug in my charger the pin at the 6-o'clock position gets bent upward towards the 2 identification pins.  This may also be bending the identification pins upward, but I am not sure because it looks like they are in the same place, just the 6-o'clock pin is not in the same place.
I believe that this may be the issue, and has this happened to many people before?  Is there a permanent solution to this?  Do I need to replace my charging port?

Answer:Inspiron 5545 AC charger not recognized (Battery plugged in, not charging)

It sounds likely there's damage to the DC port, yes.  You may want to try another adapter before replacing that.

Answer:Shutdown when plugged/unplugged to battery charger - lenovo ideapad y510p

I had this problem. It is related to Lenovo Power Management, and the electricity used by your house. You have to unnistall the Lenovo Power Management, and install the last driver.Buy an UPS (Uninterruptible power supply). I believe that's the only solution.Since I bought my computer in US, when it came to my country there were a difference between electricity, which was causing that problem. I have an UPS for all my system, especially for Y510P, and it's really rare to happen

I have an IdeaPad 500.  The A/C charger is "plugged in" and the icon says it is "charging" but there is no charge to the battery, which is now at 53% (it was 55% yesterday).   I have gone to the forum and done what they suggest (e.g. turned off the Conservation Mode).  Unlike most questions on the forum, my system says "charging" rather than "not charging".  And because it is an IdeaPad, I cannot remove the battery (at least not without opening up the case).  I am a bit worried this is a hardware/battery failure -- but I hope this forum might give me a software fix

Thanks in advance

My lenovo s10 netbook, with windows 7 and XP isn't charging anymore. I thought it was because XP is no longer supported or something, but I upgraded to Windows 7 and it still doesn't work. There's an orange light on, and when I move the battery around it turns blinking blue, I thought that meant it was charging, but in Windows 7 it says no battery detected and it's not holding any charge. Any advice would be deeply appreciated. Thanks!!

Hi, I had the problem where the battery didn't charge at all even if it was connected in the right way and the charger was plugged in. So I started to search internet for possible solutions. Those I found where to 1) disable alt uninstall ac and acpi adapter in Windows Device Manager. Restart computer.. Not charging problem is related to some Windows issue. 2) Choose the alternative "maximum battery life" in Lenovo Energy management.. Neither worked after several and time consuming tries... The problem here is Lenovos "smart" Energy management system that prevents the computer from charging the battery to "save it".. Solution: Uninstall Energy Management (Publisher: Lenovo) under Program and Features in Windows Control Panel and the problem is solved.. And don't reinstall this program again....

This is in response to the problem everyone is having with the battery not charging when plugged in. I found this in the guide for my idea pad Z400. It should help many of you to finally make peace with your battery Battery (B):      Battery Mode (B-1):  By using the battery maintenance function, it is possible to extend the battery lifespan. Before you use this function, read the precaution. Energy Management 8.0 can automatically track your habit of battery use, and then provide suggestions on selecting a battery maintenance mode for extending the battery lifespan. Two battery modes are provided: Maximum Battery Life and Optimized Battery Health.       Maximum Battery Life: In this mode, the battery has the most powerful charging capacity. Note that this mode cannot optimize the battery circle lifespan.       Optimized Battery Health: In this mode, the battery limits charging to 60% of its full capacity. This can reduce the battery degradation and extend the battery lifespan.

Hi, I have a lenovo ideapad u410, it is about 2 years old now, and I've been having charging problems. This started last year, where my laptop would be plugged in and down on the battery icon it would say that it's "plugged in, not charging." The battery would deplete completely, and when I try to charge it, the light would just blink. This eventually went away after about a month, I didn't do anything, and I could use my laptop again. However now it's back, at first I thought it was my charger, but I removed my battery and plugged it in and I can use my laptop without the battery. I tried to replace the battery, but it still did not charge. When I plug it in with a battery in the laptop, it will only blink a few times then stop entirely. Do I need to download any battery management drivers? I don't know what the problem is.

Answer:Lenovo ideapad u410 plugged in, not charging, battery depleted

I have my U410 Touch for 10 months now.  It always charged to 100 % but starting a couple days ago it only charged up to 90% and stoppped.  I called Technical support as I am still within warranty, they told me to perform the  the battery gauge, but it did not work.  Then they asked me to reinstall the battery driver and the energy management software but it is still not working not charging to 100%.  They now suggest to me to do one key recovey to reset to the factory setting to see if it works.  If not, they said I can send back the computer for service.  I am not sure if I should do the one key recovery becaue I will loose all my files and etc.  I am skeptical if this will work?  Any suggestion?  Should I just tell them I will send back the computer to Lenovo to fix the problem but then I will not have the computer for at least two weeks. ....

Laptop: Lenovo Ideapad S100c  Good day! I'm a complete novice at computer troubleshooting. So, please excuse me if I sound like an idiot.  I bought the laptop just 10 days ago (warranty of 1 year). It worked fine before but suddenly the battery won't charge. The icon indicates that it is 'plugged in, charging'. But even if i leave it with the charger plugged in, it won't seem to store the 'charge' and now I'm stuck at 6%.  This is not the first time this problem occurred. One time, I shut it down and plugged it into the charger and left it to charge for a couple of hours. When I opened it, it didn't seem to charge at all. So, I opted to charge it while it was open and it worked.  And, now I leave it open when I charge it but it doesn't seem to although it is indicated. Should I wait for a miracle to happen or do I get a new battery pack?Thank you in advance.

Answer:Ideapad S100c battery problems. 'Plugged in, charging' but does not store charge.

hi CynicalTurtle,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Can you try the following:
1. Remove the battery and AC adapter
2. Press and hold the power button for 30secs
3. Insert the AC adapter and boot into WIndows
4. When the WIndows OS is loaded, slide the battery back in place and see if it takes a charge
5. If the battery still doesn't charge, try to perform a battery gauge reset as discussed in this article.

If the battery starts charge, monitor the battery health by using Passmark's BatteryMon.
If the problem persist and the battery still doesn't charge, I recommend you contact lenovo for a replacement battery.

Hope this helps

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

 Can you try the following:

2. While the computer is off, let the battery charge for about an hour or two and observe the light indicators. When finished, turn on the computer check the battery status.

If the jack on the computer where the charger plugs into is loose, then you need to have the jack soldered back onto the motherboard by a local computer repair shop.

Early today I kicked my charger and it unplugged while walking out of my room. I was leaving and I was going to be back in a little bit. So I didn't think anything of it. I came back 30 minutes later and my computer was off. I know my computer wouldn't have died that fast. So I plugged it back in and noticed it wasn't charging. So I unplugged the charger from the actual computer and it shut off my computer. I've tried multiple times and it keeps happening. I also noticed my laptop is running faster and louder ever since it happened. This also happened a few weeks ago when my dog hit the cord and it wasn't charging. But I put the cord back in and it started working just fine. I've already tried doing a few things people recommended online, like the following: >Disconnect AC>Shutdown>Remove battery>Connect AC>Startup>In Device Manager, Under the Batteries category, right-click all of the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listings, and select Uninstall (it?s ok if you only have 1).>Shutdown>Disconnect AC>Insert battery>Connect AC>StartupBut this didn't work for me and after I restarted my computer a second time. The ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery ended up coming back. Any suggestions on what could be the problem?

I recently experienced problems with my battery display getting stuck at certain percentages and displaying inaccurate percentages. I then updated to Windows 10 from 8.1 and now when I have the charger plugged in the laptop detects it but it says that it isn't charging. I have tried to follow instructions online to resolve this issue, I've uninstalled drivers under battery in device manager and then restarted but nothing has worked. If anyone knows how to fix this please let me know!

Hello and welcome to the forums,

does your laptop shut off when the charger is dissoncected? What does the battery information say?

Answer:G50-80 - charger plugged-in not charging message

Hi NSR ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Lenovo Energy Management Software is a tool that is used to extend the battery life limiting it to 60% charge.
This is set on Optimized Battery Health settings but if you are planning on charging the laptop to 100% , you can set Maximum Battery life to do it.

To access :
Clicked on the battery icon at the bottom
Choose More Power Options and change power plan settings then advanced power settings.
Choose tab for Lenovo Energy Management and click Enable Lenovo Energy Management.

Update us how it goes.

I have a Vista Laptop that is not charging at times. The power jack it pushed in and both my chargers spark when I move the plug around so it could charge. I don?t know if it?s my laptop or the Charger. Should I get the power jack fixed, get a new battery or a new charger? Please Help!!

Answer:Laptop charger plugged in but not charging

Esmmy, look in the hole on your laptop where the power adapter would plug in and you'll see the silver power pin. Using a push button pen, put it on the end of the power pin and see if you can move the pin at all. Any movement on that pin means it's broken and the DC Jack needs to be replaced. Most DC Jacks are soldered to the motherboard and need to be repaired by someone experienced in desoldering and soldering.

If the DC Jack is broken, the power adapter won't charge your battery since it's not making a solid connection inside. Moving it around too much while plugged in could short something, cause further damage or even a fire.. Best to have it repaired by an experienced technician.

CAN ANYONE GIVE ME A CLUE TO WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY COMPUTER

WHAT DOES TAKING OUT A BATTERY AND PUTTING IT BACK IN DO THAT MAKES MY CHARGER WORK I HAVE LOOKED AND LOOKED FOR A EXPLANATION TO NO AVAIL & THERE IS NO COMPUTER PLACE THAT WILL HELP YOU WHEN YOU HAVE NO INCOME THAT IS MONEY
THANK YOU FOR ANY INFO YOU CAN OFFER~BMS

Answer:Charger plugged in, not charging toshiba

If you take out the battery when the computer is totally shut down, and plug in the AC adapter and start the computer, does the light on the charger come on, some are green, some not....

And, does the computer work normally if you are using just the AC adapter?

I would not use a battery that charged only to anything but 100% and here is why> overheating can result and cause a fire, I have had one laptop battery explode and it is not a pretty scene.

The AC adapter might also be damaged, but just answer the questions and will try to help further. I buy this type of Toshiba adapter all the time, and can point you to some reliable but not over expensive ones.

I bought this laptop brand new not too long ago. One issue I'm having that is random is that when I plug the charger in, sometimes the light will flash and it won't charge. I have to mess around with it a little bit before it actually does charge. I'm really curious what could be causing this.

It is about a year since I bought my hp compaq notebook . Recently the battery icon on the notification area shows 'plugged in, but not charging' status even if the charger is not plugged in. The indicator light is always ON with light-white light which indicates battery full status while the charger is not plugged in. when I plug in the charger it will charge normally and shows orange-red light which indicates battery is charging.I tried a hard reset but it doesnt work. I tried to use the laptop with out the batter by plugging in the power cord, and insert the battery after a while, but no change as well.I am gussing there is a contact inside the power port on the laptop. I am so worried these may damage my battery, my laptop in the worest case. Any solution? Thanks in advance for your help.

hiYou need to adjust the power option & actions on low/critical battery.First, follow this route,Control Panel\Systems & security \Power OptionsORYou can open power options by clicking battery icon in your system tray bar (near clock) alsoIn Power Options Menu, click "Change Plan Settings".Then, click "Change Advanced Power Settings"There, first you have to first choose your active power option (High Performance,HP Recommended or Power Saver)below that tab, find and expand the group "Battery" and you should choose what you wish to do when the battery reaches low/critical level and how you want to define the low and critical levels. For example,if you don't like shutting down when the battery is low, you can choose either sleeping or hibernating and you can define your own limit of low and critical battery levels. You can change the display setting too to off/sleep. Just look, expand display group -- it'll be there in that list.Hope this helps, post back if it's not resolved..thanks,

Hi ABHAYHENDRE,
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system? Could you test with another power adapter if possible?
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point. Check the battery health in BIOS (if applicable).
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.
Test with another adapter and battery and check.
Force the BIOS flash if required - http://dell.to/2hnhjs4
If the adapter is not detected, test another adapter. If the adapter fits in loose, replace the dc port - http://bit.ly/2hxR3OO - this is the part you need.
If nothing works, then I would suspect a motherboard fault.
You could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ
My personal suggestion is that, if the motherboard is being replaced, then you could invest your money on a new machine than to repair this system. However, that is your discretion.

Answer:lenovo z500 charger is plugged in but not charging

When this has happened to me with my laptops, it meant a hardware problem. Either the adapter is broken or the power jack is broken inside your laptop, or had been bent off. You can try to solder a replacement back on the motherboard if your laptop isn't under warranty. Or take it to a repair shop if that isn't too expensive. Either way, I don't think downloading anything is going to help you.

Things have been good with my Yoga 3 pro until this weekend. Battery life was a good 5-6 hours, but after a recent windows update it appears the battery will no longer charge. It shows plugged in and charging and shows increasing charge but after un plugging it will dim the screen as if it's in power save and then die within 10-15 minutes. I reverted to before the update but that did not solve the problem. It happened all of a sudden so I assumed it was related to the update. Please help, love the machine but this makes it unusable.

Hi, all. I have had my Ideapad P400 for a few years now and i have never encountered a problem like this one. I just recently upgraded to Windows 10, which i actually like a lot, and all of a sudden, my battery says "plugged in, not charging." It will only charge up to 59% and it dies very quickly. I thought it was the battery, so i bought a replacement and installed it. It did the same exact thing. I've tried doing a battery reset in the energy management window, i have tried downgrading to windows 8 again, and i have tried looking up different firmware updates that could potentially fix the problem, but nothing. If anyone has any idea on how to fix this problem of mine, i greatly appreciate it. This is really my last shot before i have to take it in to be repaaired. Thanks! -Frank C. (P.S. This is my first time posting in any forum, so i hope i didnt leave anything out.)

I had a battery problem 2 months ago that it was draining so fastand I used the firmware update and it really solved the problem it was working perfectly untill 2 days ago when I started the laptop again and found out that it's 0% and the charge is not charging at all, and the battery light indicator is blinking with orange color. and the energy manger indicator is always at 0%, when I unplug the laptop it closes right away I tried to do the following to solve the problem:1- Updating the firmware again, but it always tell me you have the latest version and prevent me from attempting to update 2- re-flashed the bios with an older version 3- gauge reset isn't working I'm thinking about the following things:1- reseting my laptop and reinstalling the windows, would that work? 2- reseting the laptop to factory reset if neccessary 3- the firmware may be corrupted or something, isn't there anyway to update it or use an older version other than the tool that was uploaded in the forum here?

I have a Thinkpad X1 Carbon (Gen3) Model 20BS touchscreen  running Windows 7 64 bit. The battery is not charging -- it's in a perpetual state of "plugged in not charging"  and even when plugged in, it?s losing appr 1 percent per day (down to 31%). This has happened a few times over the past 3-4 months since I got the machine, but I've managed to find things that "fixed" it (at least temporarily): - Resetting the power gauge worked once - Changing the custom battery charge threshold worked a few times - Plugging in the power cord at different stages of reboot seemed to fix it once (although not sure why / how) Based on previous thread posts, I've uninstalled and reinstalled Power Manager and then tried to run Battery Gauge Reset, but to no avail. And the reset only appears to run for about 30 sec before the system tray icon switches back to normal. Thanks in advance. Karl

Hello and peace on you..
I have a DELL Inspiron N5110 from early 2011
I was using the laptop correctly..The laptop was plugged in and the battery was charging..Then i removed the charger let the laptop on battery until suddenly the laptop shuts down without even telling me that the battery is low or even leaving some "emergency" charge on it (usually 7% or 5% i don't know)..I plugged it in to charge it again and open my leptop and i found out that the battery is not taking charge anymore!
I tried to see if the propblem is with the connector and tried to remove and put in again the charger and it ddid not work
i tried also to remove the battery and put it in again, it did not help
Now it is stuck on 2% of charge from 5 days and it's plugged in!
The laptop says that the battery is charging, but actually it is not charging and the charge level is the same from days
I looked up some solutions online like uninstalling ACPI microsof from Device manager and reboot the laptop..It did not work
"Jauge de batterie" which is an integrated software related to DELL, says that the battery health is good and that my battery is working properly
The laptop works fine with only the charger plugged in and battery out
PS: the laptop heats usually but i think it did not affect the battery at all since it was working fine and the charge took me about at minimum 30 min on high performance to be emptyed before this happens.
Please, i'm seeking for help
I hope you can ... Read more

Answer:Battery says: Charging, but it is not actually charging while plugged in and is stuck in 2% for 5 days !

First thing to check is wherther the sysetm recognizes the AC adapter - F2 at powerup to check that.
If it doesn't, try a new Dell OEM AC adapter - if that doesn't fix the issue, replace the DC jack board, and if that doesn't solve it, the mainboard.  Note:  you MUST use a Dell adapter - NOT a third party unit.
If the system DOES recognize the AC adapter, but won't charge the battery, chances are the battery is bad and will need to be replaced.
You cannot solve the issue without checking and, if necessary, replacing these parts.

Hi ! Over the past two weeks I've spent my time troubleshooting why my recently (used) bought X240 is not charging the internal battery. Short timeline: 1. Bought used X240 in good condition but with dead internal and external battery - working well when using power supply.2. Came home and tested that thing -> both batteries show "0% - not charging" (with Win10Pro installed) *suprise, surprise*3. Ordered both new internal and external battery.4. External battery came 1.5 weeks ago. Installed it and worked like a charm (Battery 2 (external): X%, charging).5. Internal battery came the day before yesterday. Installed it and did not work -> "Battery 1: 53% - plugged in, charging - Battery 2: 6% - plugged in, not charging)6. Waited the recommended 6-12 hours like it was written in the "manual" to get it fully charged.7. Next morning -> Batterystatus unchanged (see point 5) ... It's stuck at 53%. Though the status says it's charging, it doesn't.8. Simply tried out what's going to happen when I pull the cable of the power supply -> Notebook instant off *hmmm*9. As the external battery was obviously blocked from charging by the internal (as it was not charged), I've taken out the internal battery again and et voila, external battery is charging again.I've tried to remove both batteries and perform the "Magic Trick" (press the main power switch for 30 secs) and I've also pushed the "reset" switch on the backside near the battery. Sadly without any result ;-(... Read more

Hello, I have a lenovo yoga 3 that I purchased last september 2015.  Recently, it has been shutting off at random and not turning back on for sometimes days at a time.  I updated the drivers and BIOS and everything else, and now it isn't even charging.  The laptop must be plugged in to turn on, and the only way to get it to shut down is to unplug it.  Just clicking on the shut down link only puts it to sleep.  And in the battery icon there are three dashes with the image of a plug beside it.  Any suggestions as to how to fix this issue?

Hi i just recently purchased a Ideapad Z580 yesterday and after i started it at home there was nothing wrong but when i plug in the charger after a while the speakers started to make a crackling sound. This also happens when i plug it in to external speakers.I have tried installing different sound drivers but it didnt work can anybody please help me with this issue is the problem in the hardware or can i fix it with software?

Answer:Crackling noise when charger is plugged in. (Ideapad Z580)

this might be from electronic interference from a component attached to the motherboard. i think i might have this problem too on my y580. it's very faint and infrequent. Some may view it as a major defect and return the laptop. on my old laptop, whenever the hard drive ran, there would be speaker interference.  How close is your power brick to your laptop?

Hi, This could be coincidence, however it seems unlikely. I made the rash move of upgrading my Z510 to W10, since then the battery will not charge.  It says its "0% Charging" or "2hrs 32min to full charge", but this never changes. Other than this the laptop is fine. Obviously if you disconnect the mains power the laptop immeadiatley powers down (it seems to manage to hibernate most times but not always). I now also get a message popping up which says 'Weak battery needs replacement" Before the upgrade to W10 I had no battery issues at all could happily work for several hours on battery. It seems to coincidental to not have something to do with the upgrade. Any ideas? Chris

I have an old T23. Two months ago it suddenly stopped charging the battery. It seems as an IC problem. Therefore, I decided to buy an external battery charger (ThinkPad Multiple Battery Charger II, P/N: 22P9040), and a new battery, since the old one could drive the T23 for less than, say, 15 minutes. After receiving the charger and a new battery (from two different suppliers in USA), I found a strange problem: the old battery is charging normally, but operates for 15 minutes, or less, and the new one is not charging - the orange light flashes permanently. After that, I decided to buy another new battery, this time from Hong Kong, but the whole story repeated. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

After I did battery guage reset using Lenovo energy management, battery drained, stopped charging. I had to remove battery, connect AC, Turn it on, then put the battery back inorder to charge it.Once I disconnect AC, I have to repeat whole operation to make it charge again. I tried different solutions that I found on this forum and on the internet, None of them worked. However, I found that if I disconnect the AC and measure the the terminal voltage, it will start 8-10v and count down to 0 slowly. I have to unplug and plug it back (from the main) to get 19.5V, Is that normal? Also I tried using another charger which is (toshiba 19.5v, 3.42A), sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. I have also ran a battery pack check, it gave me ~12.4v /Resistance of 8k ohms. My battery is healthy and in good condition. There is no Service Center near the city I live atm, and sending it with mail will cost a lot. So I'm looking for help. Thanks in advance.

Running Windows 7 x64.One of my end users' T410 would say that it was charging, but the battery percentage would never change unless you unplugged it. Then it would get lower, but plugging it in would not recharge the battery. We tried putting her HD in a working T410, but the problem carried over. I ended up giving her a new laptop, but I would like to fix the errant T410 if at all possible. Since the problem carried over with the HD in a working T410, I figured it was a software issue.  Reinstalled Windows. No good.Did a wipe of the HD (everything 0's). Reinstalled Windows. No Good.Booted from Linux liveCD. Charging worked, but once I booted into a fresh copy of Windows, it stopped charging. So it seems that the hardware is capable of charging the battery, but not on a fresh copy of Windows: only Linux. Is there anything else I could try to get it working on Windows? Thank you for your time and have a great day.

Answer:T410 says "battery plugged in, charging" but not actually charging

Hi Hang,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

As you are facing the improper charging of battery , in that case you please need to perform the following steps and check  if the issue gets resolved.

Open Lenovo Energy Management
Click on the bottom gear icon between i and ?.
Under Battery Health, Click on Start for Battery Gauge Reset.
That should refresh the gauge and let the system finish through the cycle.

I hope the above information helps.

Regards,
Shashi

Hi,
I have a dell xps 12, bought in 2012. Recently the battery stopped charging. The battery shows 0%, so I have to be plugged in to turn the laptop on. When it is on, the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, charging" but after a day it is still 0%.
Since then I bought a new battery. Just fitted it, but now the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, not charging". Furthermore, when I Fn+F3 to show the battery meter, it says "battery charging diabled". There is no option here to turn battery charging on. Nor is there an option to enable battery charging in BIOS.
BIOS does show battery performing normally, so does the battery meter (Fn+F3). BIOS also shows AC adapter as 45W, which is the original adapter.
Any help is appreciated!

It stop charging at 45%. Show mess plugged in, not charging.
I try fix with tutorial on youtube
In Bios, I try change to option Standard. Battery infomation Excellent
But cannot fix. Please help.

Answer:Battery stop charging at 45%, plugged in, not charging

Does the system correctly identify the AC adapter, or does it show "unknown"?  F2 at powerup to check.
Is the battery the original one that arrived with the system?

Hi guys, I ran into this problem a few days ago where the laptop is plugged in, it says its charging, but the battery % won't go up at all. It started around 16% and each time I unplugged it for whatever reason it would go down but when I would plug it back in it wouldn't charge it back up. So now I'm at 8% and afraid to unplug it again.  I have the Energy Management set to Balanced, Maximum Battery Life, and it's status is "Charging" and "Good". Any help is appreciated, thank you guys.

Answer:Y510P "plugged in, charging" but battery is not charging

hi kanyewest,

Welcome to the Forums.

Can you try the following:
1. While having the battery and AC adapter plugged-in, boot into the BIOS (by pressing F2) and unplug the AC adapter until the system shuts off (this is to compete the discharge the battery).

2. Once the machine shuts down, remove and reinsert the battery and plugin the AC adapter then let the battery charge for about 2hrs while the machine is off and observe the battery lifght indicator. After 2hrs, power up the machine and observe the battery percentage.

If the battery is stucked at 0%, I recommend you contact lenovo and report your findings as the battery may need to be replaced.

Answer:New battery for Ideapad Z510

Dear All, I recently got an annoying problem in my Z510.A couple of weeks ago power manager suggested me to block battery charging to 40% to keep battery safe. Now after two week I got a message that the battery is weak  and need to be replaced. I bought this laptop in june bus since I changed the HDD with and SSD (I had to open the laptop) i guess the warranty is gone (or not?). Moreover, i tried to look online where to buy a new battery but I didn't find anything. On amazon there are batteries for all the models except z5100. Do someone know where to buy (Amazon preferentially since i need a really fast delivery cause i need the laptop ready for work in 10 days) a compatible battery? It's really urgent so any answer or help is welcome.  Many thanks in advance,Ventu

So... I was trying to search that problem (many of us has troubleshooting with battery) but I think I must write that post.First: since month I have error from my Windows 7 (64bit, professional edition): Consider replacing battery, bla bla bla... Is that a problem with my drivers or witch 3 years old battery?Secondly: to that trouble i can add that yesterday my charger has broken... So today i was testing my laptop with other searching some troubles on main board. Tension was not stable until battery was fully charged. Then after 5 minutes (time needs to drop battery level under 60% from 93%) i was again not stable (+/- 1A). So I think it is problem with battery, I'm right?Last thing: is there any software to format battery for Lenovo Y530? I mean I want to try repair my battery if this is possible. I wanted to format battery from my BIOS but there is any option to do this. Is there any software which allows to format battery manually without BIOS? Or just I must upgrade BIOS? Can I get link to download new version of BIOS? Thanks for reply  Ahh I forgot...Is that important in which order I'm trying to install drivers? I bought computer with Vista later I bought Windows 7 and then was troubles with battery and others... So that is important which driver I install first (I mean: "first you must install that driver then that later this and on the end that one")?

Dear,  Hi. I just bought Lenovo Z510, 6GB Ram, Nvidia 740m, 1 TB Hard Drive.  I noticed when i'm playing or like opening stuffs like browsers and applications it became lag when the charger is unplugged. And then when I plugged in the charger everything became smooth and very good performance. So what could be the problem? I tried making the max performance in battery options right side of the corner below the screen (near the time)Also I tried changing the high performance mode in Energy Manager application. Also I tired changing the Power Option in Inter HD Graphic Control Panel when On Batter = Maximum Performance. And it seems like it doesn't change at all. It still laggy.

Answer:Lenovo Z510 Battery Problem (Plugged in = Smooth, Unplugged = Laggy)

I think overlocking something might work but it is kinda dangerous too. So I guess turning the option conservation out of energy management settings to 60% is the best way.

It looks like the problem is pretty the same as with "Ideapad Z400 or Z500 battery will not charge - plugged in not charging". My battery worked fine when the OS was Vista , Windows 8, but after windows 8.1 installation it was "plugged but no charging". I already have reinstalled the windows, nothing happened. I tried to install the same firmware as Z500, but it isn't work. Lenovo Solution Center displays battery as "Battery software not installed". Downloading and running Settings Dependency Package does not help. I can't find a new firmware in any place  Please Help! By the way, I checked my windows version, and it appears Windows 8 Pro (like it was before I tried to upgrade to win 8.1)

I am using an Ideapad P500 I got a year or two ago, and just recently it has begun doing something very odd. Whenever I have the charger cord plugged in the computer will NOT turn on, but when I unplug the cord it will turn on just fine.  Then the instant I plug the charge cord back in, it will shut itself off. Somebody Please help me!!!!

Answer:IdeaPad P500 turns itself off when plugged in

Welcome to the forum! The first thing I would do is use a voltmeter to check out the charger adapter to see if it is working properly.  It is quite possible the charger adapter is defective and the laptop is shutting down in order to protect itself.  The required voltage output of the charger adapter will be listed right on the charger.  If you don't have a voltmeter or know someone that does, visit your local computer shop to see if they will check it for you.

Can this be caused by a software problem?

I faced this problem for the third time and it seems that now I will need to get fixed by some specialist.  It has started to mess things around when I left until 3% or less and I did not plug a charger on time, then battery died completely and I could not power it back again. First time it happened, the power has gone back after 3 or more hours after trying so many different sockets in the house. Second time I had exactly the same issue but I thought it might have been a charger problem, so I bought a new charger compatible with my laptop. Luckily, it worked fine and charged my laptop when it was plugged in on time. However, the third time I left it on the 3% and left in on the sleep mode and the next day my laptop was completely dead, did not show any reaction when the new charger was plugged in.And now, I am not planning to buy a new charger, because it does not seem it is a charger fault, but the battery's. I have spoken to some specialist who deal with computers and they have adviced me to open the battery and 'awaken' it. Obviously I am not going to do it myself, as it has to be brought to a repair centre or laboratory, where they can do so.Has anyone faced this problem? Any suggestions what could have happened and what is the solution for this problem?

Answer:The battery charger is not charging in Y3P

hi Viktorija,

Welcome to the Forums.

I don't have a Y3P here for testing but when you plugged-in the AC adapter and let it charge (e.g., 30mins-1hr), do you see any change on the battery light status indicator?
  - Link to picture

Batteries degrade overtime due to heat and daily use but they're less likely to fail especially if you just had this unit under a year.

If you don't see any changes on the battery light indicators then it's either that the battery or its connection to the motherboard is faulty

Y3P Video Disassembly Guide (see Battery Removal)

If the machine does turn ON after being charged for 30mins, try to update the BIOS and ensure the charger is in the correct position when charging the battery.

If the above steps are not applicable and the machine still doesn't turn ON then I recommend you contact the lenovo helpdesk and report the problem.
