Preferred Solution: Operation could not be completed (error 0x00000005). Access is denied

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I try to change the priority of warcraft 3 but it tells me "the operation could not be completed access is denied". Yes I am the only user and administator on the pc so how can I make the warcraft 3 priority higher? I play the game sometimes and when I do I lag in this game called green td because of to many monsters or something. I know its not my pc because I can play GTA IV on high/highest on all settings at 1920x1080 resolution with a solid 25 fps with normal priority. Anyways here my specs:

AMD Phenom II X2 511 3.4Ghz
5gigs of ddr3 ram
Nvidia Geforce 9600 GSO verto 768MB GDDR3
750GB HD with 435GB free

Green td is the only game I lag at so I wanna try changing the priority but I can't so any help would be great.

I also have a good internet plan so I am not sure why I lag. I have a 25/25 Mbps plan from verizon fios.

Answer:the operation could not be completed access is denied

Hello iseeu1001,

Why do you want to change the priority of Warcraft (I am assuming the process)?

Also, I am not familiar with Green TD... I don't know if changing the priority of the process will help your lag at all.

Answer:The operation could not be completed - access denied

Some programs cannot be terminated via task manager, however, try opening your web browser and then try to terminate it.
For Internet Explorer the process is IEPLORER.EXE or iexplorer.exe (WARNING!: Do not terminate explorer.exe, terminate iexplorer.exe)
For Mozilla Firefox the process is firefox.exe
good luck, smartguy01

Hi there,
Storage pool with two storage spaces created using Windows 8 Release Preview and then ported into Windows 8 RTM. I'm now trying to delete one of the storages spaces and getting this access is denied error message.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Answer:Unable to delete Storage Space "Access is Denied" 0x00000005

I solved the problem for me.
Again... No file lock on the storage pool and no application is doing anything with this virtual disk. But it's not possible to remove it from storage spaces. This has nothing to do with ownership of the drive, access rights or an access of a process. I
had a clean windows setup with no programs installed. I'd say that this is a bug of windows!

Anyway here is my solution:
* Opened an explorer with "Computer" open.
* Opened "computer managment" and selected the storage list.
* I selected the storage pool which I wanted to delete but wasn't able to.
* Right click -> format... I think I have chosen NTFS but it's not so important...
* Warning that the drive is in use (what a nonsense) -> yes yes ok
* waited a few seconds until the bar with the free space disappeared at the "Computer" folder for this drive (on the explorer).
* stopped the format process. some error msgs that this couldn't be canceled and then he said he couldn't finish... (wtf ;))
* then back to the storage spaces overview... manage storage spaces... delete storage pool... pool disappeared... finish

hope this helps someone

I just completed a system restore on my eMachines computer. I have Windows XP. Now, I had one folder that I backed up, but now everytime I try to enter it, it says Access Denied. I did hide this folder on my hard drive before, but all of my other hidden folders that I backed up work fine. I would really appreciate it if somebody could tell me how to gain access to this folder, I have very important information in it. Any suggestions?

Answer:Solved: Access Denied Into Folder, Just Completed System Restore

You will have to "take ownership" of it, basically following the instructions in the article below.

However it appears they fail to mention that in Windows XP Home, to have access to the "security" tab, you must boot up in Safe Mode.

Can someone please help me with the followiing error?

Windows can't open Add a Printer Operation could not be completed (error 0x000006b5)

I am able to run Add a printer using the command prompt rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /il"

When the Add a printer window opens I get as far as selecting the port and there are no ports listed not even in the drop down. It worked fine yesterday and nothing new has been installed or uninstalled. I have tried disconnecting my printer from the desktop and rebooting without the printer and then reconnecting the printer and rebooting, Nothing seems to work.

Any ideas?

I am using Windows Vista Home Premium x64.

I admit I even tried to add the printer on my Vista Laptop, Windows 7 laptop and the printer seems to be crapping out on each one. I am thinking it is possible my printer is dead but can someone confimr that?

Dear Community,
My G: Drive has one or multiple corrupt (dirty) files on it. Normally you can trouble shoot the problem, but this isn't working.
Going more indepth to solve the problem I tried the following command: CHKNTFS /X G: in CMD (Command Prompt).

This initally seemes to work but after some time it gives the following error:
"the specified i/o operation on hs was not completed before the time-out period expired"

Then you have 3 options, to cancel, try again or continue. Either way it's not solving the problem, which is to make my G: drive workable again.
Who can help me with this? I've added some screenshots the steps and errors i'm encountering.
Thanks in advance,
Martin

I used to have two desktops A & B, they have internet sharing and printer sharing , they were working fine.

Desktop A XP Professional SP2 PC has got two printers (HP and Samsung) connected directly (USB cable), and Printer sharing is turned on .

I bought another Desktop to replace B, because B is an old PC.

From the Desktop B (XP Professional SP2), when attempting to chose the option :
A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer Click to expand...

, to add a shared printer , I can browse and see the printers name (hp and Samsung), however, when I attempt to
connect both of them, I get the following error:
cannot connect to the printer operation could not be completed errorClick to expand...

Do I need to have admin account with their passwords on both Desktop to be able to share the printers ?

I have seen this, but I could not find as solution to my case.

An old GF called me with a *lovely* problem..

She was cleaning up old files on her machine.. And seems to have cleaned way too much.

Now, when she tries to use the add printer wizard, she gets 'Operation Could Not be completed'. I checked Microsoft, and got info on the spooler not running. Trying to start the spooler (which DOES show stopped) get's a 1068 error.

I'm NOT an XP person (She's got XP Home).. and she's in another state, so I'm helping via the phone... We've been trying to use the Restore, but it keeps failing, and suggesting we try a different restore date/time.

On older systems, I'd know what to do, but under XP, I have no clue.. Any ideas? Or even ideas where to start?

Thanks!

*edit*
Oh! It's a cannon printer (not that she's getting far enough for it to be relevant), and she's tried using the install CD that came with the printer, only to have it tell her that installation has failed.

-Thanks!

============================

Yeah! It's resolved... But, for posterity, I figured I should say how...

When she was deleting the programs, there were a few things that she though were old, but she couldn't get rid of for some reason. So she changed (don't shudder) them from .exe files to .old files.

When looking at the Spooler, and the dependancies and such, she noticed one file name that she remembered doing that to... She undid it (by hand),.... and Ta da! All fixed!

We are migrating from XP to Windows 7 and using USMT offline to migrate user settings etc.
Network printers are migrated but on the users first login if the user tries to set their default printer they receive the following error message:-

"Operation could not be completed (error 0x00000709) Double check the printer name and make sure that the printer is connected to the network."

The printer is in fact installed and it is possible to print a test print, just not set the default printer.

The issue is resolved by restarting the print spooler (or logging out and back in or rebooting or re-installing the printer) so is only
an issue during the users first login.                                                                                                                             ... Read more

Answer:Printers "Operation could not be completed (error 0x00000709) Double check the printer name and make sure that the printer is connected to the network."

Hi,
According to the error message, I assume that the spooler service cannot find out the printer on the network.

You may set the startup type of Printer Spooler service to Manual or Delayed Start for a test.Juke Chou

I am trying to install a canon IP3000 printer on a computer it has previously been installed on. Print head died and we have replaced it, in the meantime we bought a canon MP280 and installed that. When I uninstalled the MP280 after getting the new print head, and tried to reinstall the IP3000 from the disk, the installer gets to 60% and says it is creating folders, then the error system cannot find specified files comes up. I'am trying to install a printer on my friend's machine, but I still have getting message: Printer Driver Was Not Installed. Operation Could Not Be Completed". No matter which model, just general for all printers. Most funny is that computer recognize the printer, but won't install drivers.
I found similar problem in other forum, but no answer.

Hello,
I'm not able to add a printer driver using the standard printer wizard or otherwise. I get the generic message, "Printer driver was not installed. Operation could not be completed." I'm logged on as administrator, the spooler is running, I've installed SP2, and this problem exists for all the printers I have tried.
It doesn't seem to matter which model I try to install. One is an HP 4500DN, another is an HP 5si. I have the latest drivers and have tried downloading the latest drivers, but I still get the message.
Dave

Any idea what's wrong? I have some experience, but I'v never seen this kind of problem before.

As I know computer was cleaned from viruses. I guess some trojans made a huge disorder in this system.

When I scanned a disc with "chkdsk /r" command I recognized two partitions (systems?), I mean C:\Windows, and D:\MiniNT.

What is MiniNT? I read this problem can occur also if there is two systems on the disc.

I have no more ideas, maybe somebody has more xperience in this area?

I will appreciate for any help.

Matt

My laptop has suddenly decided to stop allowing me to print, giving me the message "Operation not completed. print spooler service not running", even though, when I look in Services, it is running. I am running XP Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519: Service Pack 2.

Answer:Printing issue - "Operation not completed; print spooler service not running"

Hi

According to the description in this Microsoft Knowledge base document:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=314876

Please try this:
1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Administrative Tools, and then click Services.
3. Double-click the Printer Spooler service, and then change the startup type to Automatic. This sets the Spooler service to start automatically when you restart the computer.
4. If you want to start the spooler service immediately, click the Start button under the Service Status field.

Maybe it helps you to solve this issue.

I cleaned out my temp folder to stop the 599.exe (nero was not the problem as I uninstalled it and still received the screen). I edited the start menu items to take out 599.exe and a file called winupdate.exe which was also put there along with another file similar to it that had been put in my prefetch folder with a .pf extension. I am using the following backup command:

Code:
robocopy "%srcPath%\My Documents" "%dstPath%\My Documents" /b /v /ts /fp /bytes /tee /e /dcopy:t /copy:dt /a-:sh /xf desktop.* /np /log+:%logPath%\mwk1log.txt
I realise that if I limit the retries and wait time from the defaults the stall time will be shortened and the file(s) skipped. However, that does not resolve the issue why robocopy is having a problem copying the file(s).

I have found that if the erroring files are moved from the source location to the desktop, the following errors arethen recorded in the log:

I have encountered a couple of Edge E530 laptops on our company's domain recently that are suddenly unable to access removable media.  There is no domain-wide group policy governing storage access and the storage related policies on each computer have been disabled.  No setting in the antivirus is set to deny access (I even uninstalled the antivirus to be sure).  I cannot access usb drives or the CD-ROM drive in Windows explorer or any 3rd party exlporer replacements I've tried, but can burn discs and create disc images using Iso-burn.  I can access all devices perfectly in safe mode, but even the diagnostic startup option from MSConfig will not let me access them outside of safe mode.  The only services that seem to run in diagnostic mode are Group Policy Client, RPC Endpoint Mapper, and Task Scheduler.  I have also tried leaving the domain and booting locally into the system with the Administrator account, but to no avail.  These systems were wiped and reloaded before their initial deployment, so they don't have Lenovo Security or port locker, which was the only related item I could find in the forums so far.  Any ideas of what can be done?  I would rather avoid re-imaging the systems, if possible, as this problem seems to be occurring more frequently lately.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello I am unable to access my task manager on Windows 7 as administrator. Whenever I try to access it a Command window flashes on the screen quickly and that's it. Same thing happens when taskmgr.exe is clicked.

I was able to capture the command window error as the following:

C;\Users\<name>\Documents>REG and HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System  /v  DisableTaskMgr  /t  REG_DWORD  /d  /0  /f
ERROR: Access is denied.

Any help with this would be appreciated. I have checked that TaskMgr is enabled in the registry, and have ran AVG and Malwarebytes and they didn't come up with anything.

Thanks again for any help on this one.

Answer:Unable to access Task Manager - Error: Access is denied

blue gravity,

Please confirm that the command that is attempting to execute is the following:

REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
This command is trying to enable task manager but the command prompt that is trying to enable task manager does not have the permissions to do that.

Please try the following:

Click Start
Type cmd
Right click cmd.exe
Select Run as administrator
type "REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f"
Press enter
Close cmd.exe
Log out
Log in
Try to open task manager

If this does not work, or you believe your computer might be infected, please follow the instructions found at Am I Infected, as I am not authorized to assist with the removal of malware.

Thank you,

However yesterday stuck a Wanadoo info cd into my pc (bad move !) to get details of their broadband service and somehow I managed to install some software that has now reconfigured by interne access through IE.Basically, I now have a Wanadoo logo on my IE browser and can no longer surf the net once Ive connected through AOL dial up. We run Widows 7 pro SP1 PCs on a Windows Server 2003 SBS domain.

One of our users tried to log in today and got the following message when doing so...

The Group Policy client service Failed. Access is denied

It happens on all of the PCs he has tried. Could it be a roaming profile issue?

Others can log in on these PCs ok.

I have had a look at his AD account and that looks ok to me.

Any ideas? All of the answers I have found on Google have either been about the PC in question or for windows 8.

Thanks:confused

I'm trying to robocopy a large folder from the command line (run as Administrator) and on certain files I get an error 5 "Access Denied." Looking at the files' security reveals that the only user with access is a garbled, nonsensical user name as seen here:

I tried using the takeown command to take ownership from the command line but this had no effect. I tried deleting this user but it tells me that the permissions are inherited (even though the folder in which the file exists does not have this garbled user) Is there another command I can use to fix this? I have several hundred files in this folder with the same problem.

Answer:Robocopy ERROR 5 (0x00000005) and Corrupted User Permissions

I figured out the solution. I ran these commands on the directories:

Code:
takeown.exe /F * /A /R /D Y
icacls.exe * /grant Everyone:(F) /grant Guests:(F) /grant Users:(F) /T /C /Q

keep getting this error ...error occured during installation, device access denied"?

-when try install Sony net MD(walkman MZ-NE-410 ) by USB on XP home,

-also when try update display driver-SiS 630/730

are my security settings too high,or have i shut off some service needed for installs?

Answer:keep getting this error ...error occured during installation, device access denied"?

sounds like you're on the right track with your security settings. Are you an administrator? You'll most likely have to have admin rights to install any sort of drivers. Check this in your user control panel.

When my daughter logs on to her part of HD, a small window shows up saying:' Error.Access denied.' Then you click the OK sign and it keeps coming back on desktop, until after a while it gives up and disappears. Yet during this time the desktop software keeps loading normally and everything works normally. Seems strange ! Does anyone know what it could be? Ok, I have a quick question regarding the admin. tools on the windows XP system. There are three accounts on my computer, one for myself, my brother, and my family. My brother made it so that my account has no admin/user abilities whatsoever, and when I try to change it, it gives me the error. This happens when I try to download things as well, and it's very irritating. Is there ANY way to get around this? No, I cannot simply go on my brother's account and change it because my brother's acct has a pw. Is there any other way? TY.

I hope someone out there can help,as this is my last resort.

Whenever I am attempting to install anything that I have downloaded, I receive this error message. "Error-Access is Denied" // (no error number)

I have scoured the internet, and have tried everything that is out there. Turning off UAC, Running as (and from) administrator, taking ownership of a lot of different files/folders, turning off any/all firewalls, enabled the hidden administrator account and tried from there, as well as running CHKDSK and SFC with no problems found. I have restored to my earliest restore point as well, unfortunately it must not be early enough.

I hope someone can help me, my last option of reinstalling Windows 7 would be difficult, as I have lost my disc.

Thanks a lot for any help

AJ

These pop up errors keep coming up even when my computer is just sitting there. I think it's linked to visual basic command line compiler. I'm thinking it's either a worm or that visual basic is malfunctioning and I should reinstall? I've tried 4 different antivirus programs (WSS, AVG, Avira, Trend Micro Housecall) half said there was a problem but couldn't do anything because the infected file is inaccessible and the other half doesn't detect anything. Anyone have an idea how to fix this?

I've looked for an answer to this challenge but so far the best I can do is joono's posting of 13 July 2006 http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt-2000-xp/482888-installing-xp-service-pack2.html?highlight=joono that ended in the conclusion that the offending copy of XP was pirated. I know for a fact that my copy is legal, I got the discs it direct from microsoft, so that should not be an issue.

I did the SP2 install thing and after about 20 minutes I got an 'Access is denied' error after which the removal wizard unravelled everything and I was back to square one. After a bit of research I came across http://support.microsoft.com/kb/873148, which looked promising, and followed the very clear instructions as far as step 2.e. but I cannot find an error that looks like the one illustrated. The latest Error 5: Access is denied strings appear in the setupapi.log file in the lines:

Hi Minnesota1, welcom to Sevenforums

I had this yesterday with a package of other problems.
Can you explain more about the issue? What type of environment your in, what user rights you have, where the program is running from?
A first suggestion would be to right click on the application, go to the compatibility tab, and select 'run as administrator'

I assume the E drive was in another os. To change right click the drove>properties>security> add you user name to the group that has read , write, modify access. Save and that should be it.

I was having some malware problems on my system and a friend recommended running combofix to solve them.

While running combofix, windows vista x64 popped an error saying that Pev.cfxxe had stopped responding and that it was searching for a solution. Then the window changed and only gave me the option to close the program. I waited 30 mins before I finally did close the program and then combofix seemed to complete normally and generate its log file.

I think that combofix changes folder permissions when it is run and some of mine did not get changed back because after combofix finished, I tried to install a program update. I reveived the following error:

Unable to execute file in the temporary directory. Setup aborted. Error 5: Access is denied.

I have never had this error before running Combofix, I am not blaming the program. I know that sometimes "stuff" just happens. Does anyone know if Combofix changes folder permissions? If it does, how can I get them back to the default permissions.

I have uninstalled combofix as per the instructions on bleeping computer and used the system restore point that combofix generated before running, but I still have the same problem. I can right click on the setup file and run it as administrator, but I have never had to do that before.

Anyone have any suggestions?

It is most commonly seen in Command Prompt when Users do not have permission to edit or Run certain commands

Booting up my Windows Vista Home Proffesional My WIFI would not connect, after a few minutes I realised that DHCP service and the Diagnositic service was not started.

However when I try and start any of there services I am shown "Error 5: Access is Denied" However with any other service I can start and stop them fine.

Im thinking it is something to do with these services loging into the Local Service account and maybe this account has lost privlages.

I have tried system restore multiple times back to many different dates where the system was working correctly.

Thanks,

Hi AshleyM. . .

Welcome to the Tech Support Forum - Vista!

I would suggest that you try to start the questioned services via an Elevated level. Perform the following:

START | type services.msc into the Start Search box | right click on same | select Run as Administrator | The Services console should appear

Please let me know how you make out.

Try rebooting in Safe Mode and go in as the Administrator account. If you can get to start the Windows Installer service in there it will be a case of trawling through the Help & Support menu under a search heading of "Permissions" to get your own username account granted all the powers you may ever need.

I recently upgraded my entire computer (motherboard, harddrive, the works). I kept both of my old drives, and installed a new one. One of my old hard drives was converted to an external (not enough room in the case).

I'm trying to access My Documents on my (now) external hard drive, but whenever I try to look at these files, it tells me that access is denied.

Any ideas/suggestions as to why this is and what I can do about it?

When I first log on, and the desktop comes up a message saying at the top "Error" and below that "Access Denied" comes up in a little box. If you click ok it will keep coming back about 10 to 15 times and will then cease. This will only happen on a limited account, not my admin rights account. I've checked if any abnormal processes are going but see none. Norton 2005 says that there are no viruses.... what going on?!?!

Answer:Error Access Denied

You may have an account that cannot be accessed by a limited account in the "all users" startup menu. Limited users cannot access any programs that write to the registry.Download Startup Inspector which is much easier to use than msconfig as it identifies startups by the programs they are related to.Startup Inspectorhttp://www.windowsstartup.com/download.phpDisable all unnecessary programs from starting. (click on the all startup items at the top of the list on the left)Be careful not to disable your firewall or av ap.You might like Startup Monitor as well (on the same page). It notifies you and requires your permission when any ap tries to add itself to your start menu.

Running Xp Pro sp2
While searching thru the forum I saw one or two other access denied postings. They all knew the program they were working with. I don't know what I did.
The other day I reinstalled my HP printer and camera. Decided to go to msconfig startup, and uncheck them did not need them to run all the time. A day or two before I downloaded a program called cloned cd 42.02 and left the start up alone. While in startup I decided to uncheck all unneeded programs. Received this error: Access denied error returned while attempting to change a service. Youmay need to log on as adminstratr to make the specified changes. Well, I am the administor.

As my name states I am not a techie so I decided to go to system restore and restore to a point before any of these were installed. My system restore was turned off. Do not remember ever turning it off. So back to msconfig and tried to delete and after restarting every uncheck I got rid of all the run in the back programs. But, still get the message.

Tried to change name of administrator still denied access. Ran in normal mode and safe mode.

Deleted the program cloned cd Reinstalled program. Everything else seems to run great.

Can this hurt the computer if I dont get rid of it.

very but hopeful you will help

Answer:access denied error

Try booting in safe mode and see what accounts you have in there. Check in control panel, user accounts and also on the boot sequence it should tell you there.

I've scanned for viruses (a lot showed up, but were cleaned. My AV is Comodo.), tried a System Restore, but all my restore points are gone except for the ones today, using the built in administrator account, using the "Run as administrator" option, and making a new account. Nothing has worked.

Hello,

I'm the sole user/administrator of this computer, therefore I should have the ownership of files, folders.

However file access (i.e. installation) is always denied upon double-click, only the right-click run--> as administrator works. Double-click should work, too.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

Answer:Access denied, error 5

A friend has recently gone broadband with Tiscali. When he goes on-line he does indeed access the internet but he cannot load any web pages. He can use the connection to download updates in cases where pages are not displayed (such as updating Windows, AVG, and anti-spy ware). He is not on a home network. On accessing the Internet, it goes on line with Tiscali broadband at 100Bps, the on-line icon pops into the Notification area but he is confronted with a page saying:-403 Forbidden You were denied access because: Access denied by access control list.I have checked all his settings and they are correct. Tiscali has done the same. Tiscali at first said that there was a problem with its network but Tiscali seems to have forgotten this in our latest communications. He doe not have separate user accounts in XP. He does not go through a proxy and all security settings are set at medium strengthI tried unsuccessfully accessing pages with the XP firewall off, and also very briefly with the AVG anti-virus turned off. Tiscali have promised to query BT to see if BT is blocking all pages. (Tiscali broadband uses the BT exchange as it is not unbundled in this area. Line rental is paid to Tiscali though).I switched him back to a dial-up connection temporarily and could then access any pages. This seems to indicate that Internet Explorer is not the culprit. The Tiscali modem is a 4 port Ethernet router/modem, we wondered if a firewall in this router is causing the problem, however, there i... Read more

I am trying to use MSConfig System Configuration Utility to turn off some of the startup items on my laptop.

If I go to the startup tab and make any change, when I click the Apply button, I get this message:

"An Access Denied error was returned while attempting to change a service. You may need to log on using an Administrator account to make the specified changes."

I am now using the Administrator account on this laptop. There's only one main account, and that's the one I'm now using, and it is set as the Administrator account, so this message should not be popping up.

Not sure how to deal with this one.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

They had various records and family photos in them, so a real pity this has happened. Basically, when I double-click on them, I get the error message: J:folder/subfolder is not accessible. Can anyone tell me what the problem is and how to solve it, if at all possible?

I have a Windows 7 Home Premium desktop. I use a VPN for work (through them) and have 1 link from my work programs that gives me an Error: Cache Access Denied.  It has a Windows Security prompt asking for a username and password.  I have never had to log into this program before.  It's for RTM which is a real time monitor.  I contacted our support center for assistance and he tells me that my Windows User Profile is the issue.

Here's what I have done so far.
a. Made sure there is no proxy in IE options > connections > LAN settings.
b. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Java.
c. Ran Malaware Bytes.
d. Ran Ccleaner multiple times.
e. Cleared my java and IE cache
f.  I've even rebooted my network.
g. I reset all of my internet explorer settings to default settings.

Nothing has helped.  I even tried to do a system restore with no luck.  I'm at my wits end and close to reformatting, but I really don't want to.

I do not get the error on my laptop.  Windows did some updates last evening, but yesterday it worked fine.  My computer works perfectly fine except getting the error.  I receive it in all browsers (IE, Chrome, Firefox).  I have IE 10.

Any help would be appreciated.

I know this has to do with some bum HP printer software, but I can no longer find the solution in the MS Knowledge Base for some reason. When I make changes to Startup Items in msconfig.exe and close the utility, a messge pops up saying maybe i do not have administrator privileges, but i do. i think the changes i make to Startup are saved, but it's jarring to get the error message each time.

Answer:"Access denied" error in msconfig

You are correct stating it has something to do with HP printers. The only thing I found on the subject with a solution is http://www.ehow.com/how_4531999_fix-access...rror-using.htmlThe solution there involves editing the registry. IF YOU ARE UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THE THOUGHT OF REGISTRY EDITING, DO NOT DO IT.

Welcome to TenForums.

You have to run that command in an elevated command prompt, otherwise you'll get that 'access denied'. Right-click on Start and choose 'Command Prompt (admin)'.

Hello All, Can somebody help with an error message I keep getting on my parents desk top PC running 'Vista' each time I try and install my new Epson DX 8400 printer from the installation CD. It installs upto the Epson file Mangager which then gives me the following error message: 'access is denied (0x5). There is also more error message pertaining the the C:\Programmes etc etc but I have not written this down yet. I have contacted Epson technical whom have informed me this is a Vista problem so I tried to install the same printer on my PC running Vista and it was successful first time and it also installed the desk top icon for the Epson File Manger utility. Incidentally, my parents PC is still able to print from the Epson but that is all, there is no utility hence the error message which just leaves me confused. Does anybody know a simple fix for this problem.

Many thanks in anticipation !

This message only appears on the desktop when 2nd User logs into windows with a box in the middle to click 'Ok' after a few clicks it disappears & everything seems fine. It doesn't appear when I access main user (administrator) account. How can I find out what it relates to, as it doesn't come up with any other message.

Answer:'Error - Access is Denied' Message.

Could it be anything to do with the access level given to the 2nd user? Have a look in user accounts and see what type it is and the level limit.

I have a laptop running Vista home premium in a network environment. Server is running Small Business Server 2003. For almost 3 years I have been able to utilize this machine on the network despite it being a home edition. I have a couple of mapped network drives that I would just have to provide network log-on credentials to access. However, starting today I am no longer able to access the network or server at all, even by manually browsing to the server using \\sbs1. When trying to manually browse to a network drive or the server, I get the error message #0x80070005 saying that Windows cannot access \\sbs1, etc. I can ping the server from a command prompt without problem. When I try accessing mapped networked drives, instead of being prompted for log-on credentials I get an "Access denied" message. For one mapped network drive, I do get prompted for credentials, however, no matter what I log in with (myself, which is an administrator account, or the administrator account) I get a message saying "Multiple Connections to a server or a shared resource by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed. Disconnect all previous connections to this resource and try again." I'm puzzled why I have had no problems for almost three years until today out of nowhere. I tried a System Restore to last week before this started occurring to no avail.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Folks,

I am running Windows Vista RC2 on a Dell Inspiron E1505. All drivers working, everything is great EXCEPT for

whenever I run an application installer directly from IE or even Mozilla i.e. any applications that places files during installation in my

Users/User/AppData/Local/Temp directory I get an Acess Denied Error.

Now my user account is an Administrator level account and I have even changed the permissions for the TEMP folder to allow Everyone and Users full access.

So I tried going into the TEMP folder myself and running the files created by an installer and it still would not let me run it.

Any ideas???

I receive an Access is Denied error when trying to modify system files. when i check permissions for my windows folder it shows that standard user accounts have more privileges than everything else including administrators. they all have special permissions only(screenshot). is this normal? how do i restore access?

my computer was fine until i started changing some settings in the control panel the other day. i cant say for sure what caused this. i wanna say that it happened when i went to "Control Panel > Ease of Access Center > Change administrative settings > then checked apply all settings to the logon desktop and applied. tried system restore but now that won't even work(error message after restart).

hi, i can't seem to install sp2 on my computer, and after the wizard is inspecting my system configurations and whatnot, an error window pops up: access is denied.

i did a complete cleanup of the system before i installed sp2, including a safe mode+ad aware, spybot, norton antivirus, and hijack this. i even did an online panda antivirus scan.

actually i opened up the svcpack.log and here is a full description of the error:

1186.906: DoInstallation:DoRegistryUpdates failed
1201.156: UnRegisterSpuninstForRecovery, failed to delete SpRecoverCmdLine value, error 0x2

Windows XP has been partially updated and may not work properly.
153804.375: Message displayed to the user: Service Pack 2 installation did not complete.

can anyone diagnose what's preventing the installation?

Answer:can't install sp2 error is access denied
