Kaspersky Lab Launches Free IoT Device Scanner to Aid Smart Home Defense

Question: Kaspersky Lab Launches Free IoT Device Scanner to Aid Smart Home Defense

Kaspersky Lab has released a beta version of its solution for the "smart" home and the Internet of Things - Kaspersky IoT Scanner. This free application for the Android platform scans the home Wi-Fi network, informing the user about the devices connected to it and their level of security.

As the Internet of Things continues to increase in popularity, cybercriminals are eagerly looking for ways to take advantage of this growing trend. Instead of making life easier for their owners, smart devices are increasingly becoming a weak link in their security.

According to analytical data from Gartner, over six billion IoT devices are currently being used worldwide, and many of them have already fallen victim to cybercriminals. For example, last year the world was shaken by the wave of DDoS attacks launched by the Mirai botnet. The Mirai bots used popular vulnerabilities in IoT devices to infect them and turn them into cybercriminal puppets. Kaspersky Lab has developed a solution to help reduce these risks. With the beta version, the company is encouraging IoT users to protect their smart homes, and share their experiences about the performance and usability of Kaspersky IoT Scanner.

Kaspersky IoT Scanner automatically identifies smart devices such as Wi-Fi routers, IP cameras, Smart TVs, Wi-Fi printers, NAS network storage devices, media servers and game consoles, as well as computers, tablets or smartphones, in the home network. The solution "memorizes" them and notifies the user when any new or familiar device is connected to, or disconnects from, the network. This allows the user to always be aware of who is accessing his or her home network at any moment.

The solution scans all devices for known vulnerabilities: for example, if their connection ports are open (that is, anyone from the Internet can connect to them), the solution informs the user about it and advises them to immediately close them. In addition, Kaspersky IoT Scanner notifies the user about any problems with passwords for the Wi-Fi router, Telnet or SSH. This is important in order to prevent unauthorized access to connected IoT devices because of the weak password set-up.

"Kaspersky Lab?s mission is to save the world from cyberthreats. And it's not just words, we are working every day to make the Internet safer for our users. Our ?arsenal? contains many free solutions for a variety of tasks and platforms, and Kaspersky IoT Scanner is yet another solution that allows a significant portion of netizens ? namely, users of "smart" devices ? to stay protected", says Andrei Mochola, Head of Consumer Business at Kaspersky Lab.

The solution is available for beta testing in Google Play in Russian and English in a limited number of countries. To download Kaspersky IoT Scanner, please, click this link.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

"Kaspersky has finally launched its free antivirus software after a year-and-a-half of testing it in select regions. While the software was only available in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, China and in Nordic countries during its trial run, Kaspersky is releasing it worldwide. The free antivirus doesn't have VPN, Parental Controls and Online Payment Protection its paid counterpart offers, but it has all the essential features you need to protect your PC. It can scan files and emails, protect your PC while you use the web and quarantine malware that infects your system."

Kaspersky's paid AV has dominated in protection tests of security products by independent organisations for some years now. Now that it offers a free version, it looks like I will have to give it a test run.

Just scanned w/ Kaspersky for the first time just for maintenance and it said it found 1 virus and 1 infected file. When I look at the report though, all I see are numerous skipped objects (mostly locked Symantec files) and one hp file that may or may not be marked as infected. The hp file is

hp\bin\killwind.exe

which is a legit HP utility that came w/ my HP computer. However, googling it turned up other folks who say McAffee sometimes falsely pegs this utility as a virus.

Could someone please look at my Kaspersky report and tell me if it looks like I actually have a virus that needs to be removed. Norton turns up nothing, and I'd prefer not to install the full Kaspersky program if I can avoid it, because I already own Norton and use Ad-Aware and Spyblaster too and that seems like enough.

I've attached the report.

Answer:confused by Kaspersky free online scanner results

There are no problems showing in your log. As you suspected the killwind.exe is just false indication. Many scanners detect this and a few other poorly named files from HP.

I am using windows 10 on my HP desktop. I currently use MES but am unable to access certain games, puzzles on GameScene (ie) . I thought perhaps changing my antivirus would remedy this situation. is Kaspersky antivirus totally free for download on home computer?

Answer:Is Kaspersky antivirus totally free for my home computer?

Err.. MES, presumably you mean MSE but known as "Windows Defender" on Windows 10. If that is preventing access to games and puzzles then most likely there is something wrong with them. MS Windows Defender is usually quite docile. You didn't ought to be looking for an anti-virus that lets them through if they are dubious. As for Kaspersky, as far as I am aware they don't do a totally free version, only a free trial. There are free AV's around, such as Bitdefender, but as I said that doesn't sound like the right way to go for your game problems. What exactly happens when you try to access them and is there some reason you suspect Windows Defender is implicated?Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Kaspersky launches its own OS on Russian routers:
SOURCE: theregister.co.uk (ARTICLE DATE: 23rd Aug 2016)

Kaspersky Labs has finished building its eponymously-named operating system after four years of quiet development...

Little information about the OS has made it onto the English-speaking side of the internet. Kaspersky Labs Russia told Vulture South to wait a few weeks for the English press release for information.

What we do know is that in 2012 ebullient Kaspersky Lab chief executive officer Eugene Kaspersky described the OS as a ground-up build to help protect industrial control systems.

A more detailed paper published at the time revealed it would be designed to help protect infrastructure like power stations, electricity grids, and telecommunications networks.

It appears the operating system has been deployed in routers manufactured by Russian outfit Kraftway, a company that seems to sell into various industrial control system markets, and verticals including government, healthcare, and education.

At first it startles: lots of colored tiles not unlike the start screen of Windows 8 ? with perpetually running figures on them. These figures are really big and their speed feels a bit mesmerizing. Kaspersky Lab?s new portal Kaspersky Cyberstat is a live statistics tool. It?s rather similar in its purpose to the previous (and fancier) Kaspersky Cybermap: It shows what is going on globally ? in the cyberworld as it is now.

The portal pays specific attention to the threats ? most active and most harmful malware, most attacked resources, etc. The portal also presents ratings of the most widespread online threats, lists of countries most frequently attacked over the previous month and the number of different malware samples detected today.

This data is complemented with statistical information on the total number of Internet users worldwide, including those users who have only recently discovered the Internet.

Hello,

I have set up a home network using a broadband wireless router. I know how to share the printer and any folder on any of the 3 computers. But can I share the USB scanner that is connected to one of the 3 PCs?

Thanks,
Greg

Answer:Is sharing a USB device (scanner) possible over home network?

Not normally. Most scanner drivers are not designed to allow sharing. Since you have to be next to the scanner to load the material to be scanned, it's somewhat pointless for most folks anyway.

hi gents
i want to know the difference between kaspersky antivirus and kaspersky free . and what about this combo(KFA+ZAM premium+APPcheck free)+Malwarebyte antimalware on demand scanner . is KAV has antiphsing protection ??

Answer:Difference between Kaspersky Free and Kaspersky Antivirus

the only difference between KAV and KAF is that KAV has system watcher = behavior blocker. system watcher is one of the most powerful weapons of kaspersky that's why they charge you for that
they both have phishing protection

your combo looks OK to me. I can recommend that
but I don't agree with Malwarebytes because it seems redundant to me. zemana as the second opinion scanner is sufficient enough. It's realtime protection is different from its on-demand scanner. You will get better result with on-demand scanning than the realtime protection

AOL launches free 2GB webmail service

AOL has gone into competition with Gmail, Yahoo! and Hotmail with the launch of a free web-based email service offering up to 2GB of storage.

AIM Mail offers spam and virus protections plus integration with the AOL's AIM Instant Messenger Service. Users can use their AIM screen name as their email address. It was launched yesterday following trials this spring.

Users can tap into the service, which offers one-click access to AIM Mail, through an updated version of the AIM 5.9 software. An update will begin rolling out across the AIM network this week, during which US AIM users will be given the opportunity to activate an AIM Mail account and enrol in the sweepstakes promotion.

The AIM Mail interface is based on technology AOL bought when it acquired Mailblocks in July 2004. Both current AIM users and web users more generally can access AIM Mail by visiting AIM.com or by updating to AIM 5.9 software.

Separately, AOL announced it will give its US ISP customers unlimited email storage.

If you?re still running Windows XP and you?re planning to move to a newer OS, but you don?t have the time to transfer all your data, Microsoft got you covered.

Redmond today launched a brand new migration application that?s available free of charge for Windows XP users, just to make sure that everyone is moving to a newer OS version as soon as possible.

Developed in collaboration with Laplink, the so-called PCmover Express for Windows XP comes with support for Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 and can transfer basically everything, including files, music, videos, email and user profiles from an old PC running Windows XP to a newer one powered by any of the aforementioned OS versions.

?This tool will copy your files, music, videos, email and user profiles and settings from your old PC to your new device, transferring across your home or work network, and even enables Windows XP users to customize exactly what they want to bring over to their new device,? Microsoft explained.

The application will be released for download sometime this week, the company added, and will be initially available in English. Several languages, including French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish will be added in March. Korean, Chinese, Russian and Brazilian Portuguese will also be added soon after that.

?But if someone doesn?t want to wait for the tool to be released in their local language, they can access Laplink?s tool in other languages as well via Microsoft?s Down... Read more

Software company IObit today announced the availability of a new version of Advanced SystemCare Free, its own solution designed to speed up the computer and fix issues that might exist in the operating system.

Advanced SystemCare Free 7.3 comes with several improvements, but the most notable improvement is clearly the addition of a new Windows XP module designed to protect those who are still running this particular OS version.

Basically, the new version of the application packs what IObit calls ?Security Reinforce for XP? which does nothing more than to strengthen Windows XP anti-hacking protection and avoid being invaded by trojans and hackers.

At the same time, the app also helps fix the already known security fixes in order to make sure that your computer is fully patched, while also bringing support for Chrome 34, Firefox 28,Opera 20, KMplayer 3.8, Auslogics Disk Defrag 4.5, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.0, ZoneAlarm Free 13.0, Firefox 28.0, Adobe Air 13.0, Flash Player 13.0.

Advanced SystemCare Free 7.3 is one of the applications that are still working on Windows XP and given the fact that this new version packs support for a feature supposed to protect computers running this OS build, expect the software developer to continue offering XP compatibility in future updates.

Although such applications are clearly helpful for those running Windows XP, Microsoft warns that third-party protection cannot ensure that all your files are completely safe and upgrading to a n... Read more

I have reason to believe that my computers will be the target of an attack (small home network of 3 computers).

Since someone is specifically targeting me, am I correct that there is not much that I can do to prevent the intruder (assuming they have an intermediate knowledge of what they are doing)? All that I really know about the intruder is that with a phone number (and maybe a name) he or she was able to get at least the person's username for a site (perhaps they did a lot more).

If so, my objective is to soften the blow (of the attack) as much as possible.

I'd imagine that they are going to take 1 of 2 agendas when they break in:
(1) stealing information that they can use, such as bank passwords. Is this even much of a concern (what's my level of liability)?
(2) just messing up my computer. The core of this is destruction of files. My thinking here is to add more hard drives into the backup rotation. For example, with Time Machine (Mac backup program), I will have about 3 hard drives in my rotation. Rotate the back up hard drive every 3 or 4 days. This way, there should be at least 1 clean hard drive even if something sophisticated "hits" for several days before I notice.

My primary defense (may take some time to implement, and will be a headache), is to have a computer that is not connected to the internet and store the bulk of my files there.

I would like to still keep a good amount of files on the computer that is connected t... Read more

Use something like CryptoPevent *but* when applying settings use MAXIMUM PROTECTION. You will have to set it back to 'Basic Protection' each time you want to update a program that alters system files. It will prevent any change to any files. And here we go again

From my personal experience, ESET is very light, powerful and easy to use. TrendMicro has weak detection but strong proactive defense, Kaspersky has great detection, has rollback technology and it has application control. COMODO (which i use), is very light, uses only 7 MB of RAM, and their proactive defense (Defense+ and HIPS + Viruscope) is great,it's not everything in detection.

Best way is see for yourself which one suites you and your needs

VERY slow response so I did the ALT-CTRL-DEL and there was something called KASPERSKY AV SCANNER running away at 50% and 176,372K. Which made it 100%..... Have no idea where it came from. It's like a bloody ghost. Anybody have any idea where it comes from, well, other then Russia, and how to get rid of it? I looked it up on Wikpedia and it seems OK but I don't want the thing....Maybe it's under another name on the system. Panda launches its new security solutions for home users, small businesses and professionals

Panda Software is launching the new security solutions Titanium Antivirus 2005, Platinum Internet Security 2005 and TruPrevent Personal 2005. These have been designed to meet the needs of home users, small businesses and professionals for protection against all kinds of Internet threats, including unknown viruses and intruders.

As Internet threats begin to spread faster and faster, users and antivirus companies also need to react with increasing swiftness to prevent epidemics. Worms like Sasser, Mydoom, Blaster or SQLSlammer succeeded in infecting thousands of computers in just a few minutes, demonstrating how new attacks can propagate faster than any human reaction to the problem. The problem is aggravated by an increasing tendency of malicious code to exploit other techniques such as security flaws, buffer overflows, etc. To solve this problem, security systems need to be able to preempt the problem and detect and block threats before they enter or leave the computer.

Thanks NICK. Here we go again on the Panda roundabout. It will be interesting to see if the popularity of this version doesn't ebb and flow like the last release did. The previous release sure generated some traffic on MG. Bazza

When i scan with kaspesky it only scans less than 50000 files. It should scan more than that considering that it has crazy unpackers. My scans with AVG free and AntiVir PE also scan more. Is there a bug with the kaspersky online scanner?

Answer:Kaspersky Online Scanner Problems

considering that it has crazy unpackersWhat do you mean by that?BTW You should only have one resident anti-virus program and operational Firewall, otherwise there will be conflicts set up in your system.

Lately, I have noticed my computer is becoming a little slower than normal and also a little odd. Random freezes are one of the things that are occurring. Anyhow, I have decided to clean up my computer and I have done what I normally do in steps of security.I have updated both Windows and my programs. I have run a disk clean-up, defrag, and check. As well as CCleaner and ATF Cleaner. I used both AVG Anti-Virus and Kaspersky Web Scanner. I also used Ad Aware Free 2007, CWShredder, and Spybot S&D.I also scanned one of my external USB drives and found a virus on that and don't know how to remove it. All help is greatly appreciated. I haven't had any concerns till just recently after receiving 3 separate emails with no name or address on them in MS Office Outlook. When received, I deleted them without opening and added them to the block senders list. Out of curiosity I decided to try running a Kaspersky Online scan (maybe this was a mistake?) and it tells me I have one "Suspicious: Trojan-Spy.HTML.Fraud.gen" and four "Infected: not-a-virus:PSWTool.Win32.RAS.a" all in Outlook pst. Other then the lexmark printer giving me the usual grief of not scanning more than 1 or 2 pictures before freezing and an occasional "not being able to log off" my user account after the scanner freezes I really haven't noticed any problems. Can anyone help with these items listed from the Kaspersky scan?

Answer:Kaspersky Online Scanner says i'm infected

Hello. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.alternate download link 1alternate download link 2IMPORTANT!!! - when you save the file, rename it to something random, such as bubbles.exe This must be done before beginning the download!MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan... I ran Kaspersky's Online scanner. The scan finished but I didn't see the results due to message, "Turn off Popup blocker window". Internet Explorer 8 popup blocker is off, Google's popup blocker is off, I exited AVG 8 free antivirus tray icon, I also use AVG search shield and resident shield. I have SpywareBlaster free installed with protection enabled. Spyware Dr. 6 but no anitvirus engine installed. I am wondering if any of these may be the culprit for the Kaspersky message to turn off pop up blocker or any ideas why I got that mess and couldn't see results? My OS is Vista Home Premium SP2.

If you are sure that you have turned off your popup blockers, I don't see why you are having a problem. I don't believe AVG or Spyware Doctor would block the scan; however you could try turning them off and see what happens. This is really not a malware problem and it is also really something you would be better off asking Kaspersky than us.

Hi all!

What do you think I should use as a second opinion scanner?

Until now I use ESET + MBAM. I never used EMSISOFT but I always hear good things about it

Answer:EMSISOFT Anti-Malware free or MBAM Free as a second opinion scanner

Why not both using MBAM and Emsisoft Emergency Kit? On demand scanners should help you to track down potential infections as possible with various tools available.

Emsisoft AM is a full blown AV but it can be experimental on other security products as combination just use at your own risk as possible.

Having problems running Kaspersky Online Scanner, keeps saying i need Java version 1.5 or later. Ive tried a couple of the older downloads but there not labeled the same as what the Kaspersky website is calling it. Need help figuring out which version to download!!!

Answer:Problem running Kaspersky Online Scanner

Hello and welcome.. I am moving this to the Am I Infected forum for the scan results..Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malicious sites can use to exploit and infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update:Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) Version 6 and save it to your desktop.Look for "Java Runtime Environment (JRE)" JRE 6 Update 13.Click the Download button to the right.Select your Platform: "Windows".Select your Language: "Multi-language".Read the License Agreement, and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".Click Continue and the page will refresh.Under Required Files, check the box for Windows Offline Installation, click the link below it and save the file to your desktop.Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.Click the Remove or Change/Remove button and follow the onscreen instructions for the Java uninstaller.Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed. Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u13-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.-- If using Windows Vista and the installer refuses to launch due to insufficient user permissio... So-called QR Codes are very similar to shortened urls. The core similarity is that you don?t see where the link takes you when you activate it.

QR Codes are used in many different locations and situations. On advertisement so that you can look up additional information about an offer, in shops, public transport, magazines and on websites.

The recently released WhatsApp Web uses a QR Code for instance to link the account on your phone and the web interface.

Since it is easy to create them, they can be misused easily as well. It takes no effort to display codes on websites and minimal effort to create stickers of codes.Click to expand...

I used to use Kaspersky online scanner on a regular basis, but I've been getting a weird warning about their security certificate lately. It says there's some "error in initializer", or something like that. Unsure, I canceled the download, after which my browser completely froze. Said it was running in Task Manager, but nothing moved.

I'd like to use Kaspersky again, because I understand they're the most reliable in finding viruses. I currently have Symantec, which found a trojan (bloodhound.pdf), and quarantined it, but I don't trust Symantec so would like to get a second opinion, so to speak, and make sure that my computer really is clean.

Anyone know what's going on? Thanx.

Answer:Kaspersky Online Scanner security certificate?

I would think that error is just a transmission error while downloading the antivirus program. If you can verify that you are going to the correct URL for Kaspersky then you should be fine.

Hello all,

Just run a online Kaspersky scanner and the results came positve for different types of Trojan.

I run antivirus (Avira) and malware scanner (Malware bytes) daily along with Spyware blaster, windows update, and a-square free weekly. None are detecting any infection. In fact, just last week I finished working with Sundavis to clean up a nasty virus and we both thought my PC was clear.

Any ideas what to do next?

We have a problem with filling orders with the wrong bar coded boxes sometimes.

The plan would be for the boxes to pass under a scanner that is connected to a database.

Each case has an item bar code number, and a UPS shipping bar code.

The scanner would have to be smart enough to read the UPS label, check the db to see what item numbers should be scanned, scan the item bar code on the same case, and then sound the alert it is the wrong item.

I need a reputable company for the scanner and software. Anyone have something running like this? I don't know where to begin to look.

Hi,

My problem started when Norton System Works found a Trojan on my system. The trojan was "Backdoor.trojan". Norton was unable to Fix, Quarantine or delete the infected file, C:\Windows|System32\winwrly32.dll. I was also unable to manually delete the file. I took advice from a friend in the know who pointed me at Grisoft - AVG Antispyware. I downloaded and ran the antispyware with no luck detecting and deleting the winwrly32.dll file but quite a few problems where highlighted and subsequently fixed by the new application. The use of the avg application led me to the TechGuy site where i was able to follow a similar problem from another forum member. I downloaded and ran HJT and VundoFix. More infections were subsequently fixed and i was able to delete the winwrly32.dll file with the delete on reboot function. I then ran VundoFix again which ran clean. As a further precaution i downloaded and ran Kaspersky which highlighted further infections. I have posted, as attachments, the results of the latest HJT log file together with the VundoFix log and the Kaspersky log. Could I please get some guidance on whether system requires further attention or have i sorted things and the indicated infections are those that have already been dealt with?

Answer:Help required after running VundoFix, HJT and Kaspersky online scanner.

First, Thank you so much for taking the time to help me! I really appreciate it! Below are the logs you requested - I tried to follow the instructions in th Preparation guide. The problems my computer is having is: Windows Installer won't work. Whenever I try installing or uninstalling anything that requires it, I get an error 1601 Windows is in safe mode or the service cannot be found. I tried setting the service to automatic, and reinstalling windows installer from the Microsoft site but it didn't work. Then I scanned with Kaspersky and it found something. Can it be related? Anyway here are the logs.

I downloaded Kaspersky Online Scanner and scanned my files, now I want to scan everything else but I cant't find the file. The only place I see it is in the Add and Remove file.

Anybody know how to access this file?

It took a long time to download.

Thanks

Answer:Solved: Can't find Kaspersky Online Scanner download

If Kapersky acts like Panda, then what you downloaded was an activeX module and can be only used while online connected to their site.

Hello conky Welcome to the BC HijackThis Log and Analysis forum. I will be assisting you in cleaning up your system.I ask that you refrain from running tools other than those we suggest while we are cleaning up your computer. A few weeks ago I started to get a rootkit warning from AVG scans. I've been through Malware removal and they can't find anything.

The file/s are C:\INSTB32.SYS and the same file in C:\Windows\Temp
Removing them does not remove them as they reappear on restart.

Since I can only find others with the same question as me online, and the answers they get are ambiguous, On the off chance I emailed Spybot S&D even though it wasn't alerting to the program.
Spybot said;
"The file is not bad.
INST32.SYS and INST32B.SYS occur often after installation of Kaspersky 8
(initial or reinstallation of later variant) _and_ reinstallation of
Broadcom Bluetooth connectivity software linked to a Motorola phone.
Other people have reported the phenomenon involving Kaspersky. Thinkpad
computers also contain these files."

I don't have broadcom bluetooth and I've never had bluetooth turned on.
This file is new to me the last few weeks and I am pretty sure I downloaded Kaspersky after I got it but just on the off chance I want to remove Kaspersky completely to be sure.
I've removed ESET online scanner, and all bluetooth items.

Hi,
Scanners (Treesize, scn2 and spacemonger) show I'm using 513 Gb of my 1 Tb drive but Explorer and xplorer2 say I've only got 46Gb free.
Spacemonger shows a big piece of disk space that isn't scanned.

I switched off Restore and, separately, shadow volume thing.
I use avast for virus
Using Rollback rx for system saves.

When I delete files or run ccleaner and even deleting a Rollback snapshot the size available does not increase.

Biting my nails as I near the limits of my disk space!!

C:\system volume information
C:\Windows\System32\LogFiles\WMI\RtBackup

I can't access the vol info dir and the files showing in WMI dir are few and very small.

The biggest file on C: is about 6Gb

It wasn't free so I couldn't scan my computer. Still have blue links everywhere and popups everywhere including big ones wanting me to fill out surveys when I go to websites like Wholefoods.com. The ones connected to blue links are from "Search Assist" and this has been blasting me for going on a week now!

Answer:Suggeste free download of PC Scanner but it wasn't free

After MalwareBytes has done it's stuff use this to get shot of any nasty toolbar that you might have picked up:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/dow...It is not installed in the true sense, you just download the file and Save it somewhere then double click it. Run the Scan first. You then have an opportunity to read its report (log) but I have found it quite safe to run the Clean that gets shot of any junk it finds.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

I have Internet Explorer 7, and was recently trying the 5-Step Process that is required under the HiJack-This forum. I got to Step 2, and have been stuck there for a while, because whenever I try to click the "Scan" button on the Panda Activescan page, it does absolutely nothing; no windows come up, and no indication that it was even supposed to do anything. I tried this website out in Firefox, and Yep, it brings up a window like it should, but then tells me that the scan itself will only work in IE.

So then I try another scan recommended to me, Kaspersky Online Scanner, and I encounter the same problem. I click the button, but it does nothing; no window and no indication that it was supposed to to anything. Again, I try it in Firefox, and it does work, but informs me that the scan itself will only work in IE. So then I try to go into Internet Options for IE, and disable Pop-Up Blocker. It does not change or help anything. I turn off the Phishing Filter for this website; still nothing. I go into the Security and Privacy tabs under Internet Options and raise the notches on some of the bars relating to Cookies and Allowed levels; these do not help either.

I also tried holding down Ctrl or Shift while clicking the Scan button, because this used to do something I believe, but it does not help in this case.

I am wondering why no windows come up at all when I click this buttons; I'm trying to get through the 5-step process as fast as possible, but I'm g... Read more

Hi,

I have performed a scan with Kaspersky On-line scanner ver.7.0 yesterday, and it showed that both a.My email archives (the first four entries in the Kaspersky Online scanner log report attached below) and my current Email Store Folder (the last entry -F:\OutlookExpressMailsNew2008\Inbox.dbx in the log ) have been infected.

I had upgraded to Windows XP Sp 3 about a month ago, after which I noticed warnings from SpySweeper (one warning from Spysweeper) and Spbot S & D (multiple times) about changes in my Home page and Search page (using IE 7.0). I have turned off TeaTimer recently, because of the multiple warnings.Otherwise,my pc seems to be running fine.

Unfortunately, the Kaspersky log does not show refer to the exact email which has been infected, and refers to the general location of the infection.
( I have 4 drives on HDD,named as C,D,E & F).Also,I had performed a scan with Kaspersky On-line scanner ver. 5.0 about 10 days ago,and the email infections were not detected at that time.

I have tried to follow the instructions in the Malware removal guide,to the best of my ability, but may have commited some errors.
I am currently using SpySweeper in real-time,both for its Anti-Spyware,and
Anti-virus capabilities, and also using Spybot S&D and the ZoneAlarm Firewall.

Any suggestions on removing the infections are welcome- I was thinking of using a trial version of KAV 7.0,as I can buy the paid version at a greatly discounted price,... Read more

My Kaspersky AV ran out of subscription so I decided to try AVG 7.5 free.
The one thing I noticed when using AVG for scanning "My Computer" scanned maybe half the number of files?? If not less...compared to KAS!! Could not find an option on AVG to add additional stuff to scan.

I was and am still using COMODO BO Clean & SpywareBlaster and Windows Firewall All updated to latest versions. Please let me know if this is a decent setup.

I'd like to know if the Lappy would be MORE secure if I shift to the latest KAS Internet security Package as opposed to hanging on to AVG free. .

Thanks very much for any advice.

Answer:Kaspersky Vs AVG Free

>> I'd like to know if the Lappy would be MORE secure if I shift to the latest KAS Internet security Package as opposed to hanging on to AVG free. Thanks very much for any advice. sikvik <<

I'd stay with AVG Free if I were you. I've used it since 2004 and I've never had a virus get through the AVG defenses on any of my 3 computers. It has caught a few things (while I was online) and "healed" them before any damage was done; but nothing has gotten through as yet. Additionally, just to be on the safe side; once a month I also use an "online virus check" called BitDefender Online Scanner - Free Online Virus Scan

Please Note: AVG 7.5 Free is out of date. Use AVG AntiVirus Free Edition 8.0 instead.

>> I was and am still using COMODO BO Clean & SpywareBlaster and Windows Firewall All updated to latest versions. Please let me know if this is a decent setup. <<

Sounds Good - but I'd add a software firewall if you do not already have one. Windows Firewall alone is very limited IMO.

Good Luck!

As much as I've used and advocated for certain free AVs over the years, I could not help but notice that one paid AV suite consistently dominated numerous protection tests, namely Kaspersky Internet Security. The protection scores of KIS were not usually significantly higher than the free AVs, but they were consistently higher. It has achieved the highest award (Advanced +) from AV-Comparatives in every Real-World Protection test since 2009, unmatched by any other AV product, paid or free.
So when Kaspersky recently released a free version of its AV, I had to take it for a spin. I downloaded the latest Kaspersky Free (KF) version [18.0.0.405(b)] from: usa.kaspersky.com/free-antivirus
Requirements
OS: Windows XP or higherNon-commercial use onlyFull system requirements: usa.kaspersky.com/free-antivirus
Test Platform:
Dell Latitude E5410 notebook running Windows 7 Professional/sp1 64-bit, and IE 11 (without add-ons). Intel Core i5 @2.40 GHz, 4 GB RAM, SATA HDD: 160 GB. Real-time protection was Windows software firewall, WinPatrol PLUS and Malwarebytes 3 Premium. All Microsoft and 3rd party  programs/patches were up-to-date.
Results
Download and Installation:
Both processes (154 MB installer) went quickly and smoothly, taking about 5 minutes. The only decisions one needs to make during installation are to select a language, whether to enable the Kaspersky Security Network (KSN)- basically to send anonymized data back to Kaspersky, and whether to enable Kaspersky Secure C... With respect to the Free Antivirus of the Year 2017 competition, we've a thread series where users of the various products will be joining together to state the Pro's and Con's of each antivirus software and why they think it was a contender or not for the Free Antivirus of the Year 2017.

In this thread we'll talk about the Pro's and Con's you have found about Kaspersky Free Antivirus. It achieved the Second Spot in the Poll conducted recently.

The first post will be updated by me [or the mods] with what user's think is good and bad about the product, so an informed decision can be made for newcomers.

Answer:Kaspersky Free Antivirus - Pro's & Con's

Hello,

I'm really like kaspersky products, but sometimes get me angry
So what you ask:

Pro:
- Light on system (yes in fact it is)
- Good signatures
- Really good Cloud
- Good virus removal ability
- Good web protect

Cons:
- No behavior block (but has heuristic)
- Ads sometimes
- Good alternative for Windows Defender but not paid or other free AV.
- Protection is good enough just for advanced users only i think.

Earlier I was using Bitdefender and thought Bitdefender was the number 1 and Kaspersky is the number 2. But After coming to this forum I realized that the reality is completely different! Some products have trouble working with Windows 10, some have trouble protecting 64bit systems. I did some digging and settled with two products. Kaspersky and ESET. Im using a Windows 10 64 bit system. What product might be the best for such a setup?

Answer:ESET Smart Security 9 vs Kaspersky Internet Security 2016 for Win 10 64bit

For purely protection basis you may go to ESET SS 9 as you can tweak the HIPS for protection and their Sandbox (Banking) + so far the architecture (x64) isn't affected from performance.

KIS 2016 is a promising suite, however until now limited components working from prevention due to Windows 10 environment which the developers make a note to fix those issues; but overall a balance concept where you can tweak more from numerous components.

Somehow the system impact tends to be consistent as light for ESET than Kaspersky.

Still brace yourself to see those possible unique characteristics.

AOL and Kaspersky have got together and re-leased a 'FREE' version of Kaspersky...(No you dont need to be an AOL customer)
This is basically Kaspersky slimmed down and re-skinned but offers the same excellent detection engine as Kaspersky
Protects against Viruses, Worms, Trojans, Spyware, Adware, Jokes, Hacktools etc

This has to beat AVG as the 'Best Free Anti-Virus Program' Available
to get license key you have to register with email address, I may suggest using a 2nd free email address as the EULA specifys that you may get SPAM from AOL and other companys so using a 2nd email address (just for these sort of pruposes) will avoid your usual email address from being bombarded with SPAM

Kaspersky is one of the best detection engines on the market and has won awards for its detection rate, namely the 'VB 100%' Award which means it can detect 100% of the Viruses in the Viruslist.com

So I've been trying to install kaspersky free for the past few hours but to no avail.

The installer runs fine but during the downloading phase of it, it downloads normally for 51.8mb out of the 156.6mb then starts to "download" very fast all the way to 156.6 mb, after that the installer states that the installer is corrupted and the only fix that I can find online is download the installer and try again. But I've done that at least 5 times already but I keep running into the same issue

I've also deleted the previous installers before trying again, cleared cache using ccleaner, manually searched for my remnants and deleted them before trying again. I've also manually disabled windows defender before the install. But all the while I still come back to the same issue.

Has any faced this issue before? Any other fixes you think I should try?

I forgot to take a screenshot of it but it seems that other people are facing it too, here is a screenshot from the kaspersky forums that matches what I see as well

Howdy,I recently scanned my computer with Kaspersky Free Online Scan. The scan log indicated that I have a Trojan that has infected my computer. Below are the two items infected by the same Trojan.C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Norton AntiVirus\Quarantine\72BF65DB.tmp Infected: Trojan.Java.ClassLoader.ao skipped C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Norton AntiVirus\Quarantine\72C20FD8.tmp Infected: Trojan.Java.ClassLoader.ao skipped I searched for information about this Trojan and got the following results. (In order to enlarge the screen shot below to make it legible ,I had to disable my pop up blocker)I removed Norton Security 2006 from my computer over a month ago. It looks as if these items are in quarantine somewhere in my computer. After the scan I re-started my computer in safe mode and ran a scans with SpyBot S&D, Ad-Aware SE, AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 Free and SUPERAntiSpyware. The combined results were three tracking cookies.I then re-started in normal mode and ran a scan with Windows Live Care and Housecall, they came up clean. Are these items harmless ? I ask that because it seems to show they are quarantined. Regardless, I would like to do away with these items.Could someone please tell me how to locate these files (?) and how to delete them ?Thank You for your time.Dennis XP Home, SP-2, IE-7

WHAT'S NEW IN KASPERSKY FREE

Kaspersky Free provides the following new features:
There is now protection against infection while the operating system is being restarted.
Added notification from Web Anti-Virus regarding pages containing adware or legitimate software that can be used by criminals to damage your computer or personal data.
Improved speed for certain installation scenarios, the first startup, and the first update of the application.
The application now waits a longer amount of time before displaying a notification about outdated databases and application modules when the computer wakes from sleep mode.

MAIN KNOWN ISSUES
If the "Always scan encrypted connections" check box is selected, the application will scan encrypted connections even if you have paused protection.
If the application was installed in Windows 7 and you upgraded the operating system to Windows 10 but now want to revert back to Windows 7, you are advised to uninstall the application and install it again after reverting back to Windows 7.
On certain websites, the application may block the download of additional pages in pop-up windows or frames. To resolve this issue, clear the "Inject script into web traffic to interact with web pages" check box in the network settings of the application.
If interactive protection is disabled, tasks for processing threats on your computer from the My Kaspersky portal might not be performed.

Answer:Kaspersky release Free version of AV

I used it years ago. But now shouldn't we be a bit wary of using AV software from a Russian company? And isn't Defender good enough? If not, can somebody explain?

Hi I got "Kaspersky 30 day free trial" and all was fine until the licence ran out. I uninstalled it (or tried to anyway) but the uninstall failed 3 quarter way through! Theres a file in C/programs called Kasperskylab and I cant rename/remove or delete it.
The main problem was I got Avast antivirus but it wouldnt install fully due to Software conflicts or something (I cant recall exactly the phrase) then my pc froze and kept freezing on startup until I used safe mode and removed Avast.
Obviously I cant install a new antivirus until I lose Kasperskylab but as I say I cant delete or rename it etc, any ideas how I get rid?

Thanx in advance

Answer:Kaspersky 30 day free trial problem

Starting earlier today, Kaspersky Free on a few (but not all ) machines started triggering a high threat level IPS event.

False positive? Either way this level of triggering of security can cause me some issues. Strange that it is not triggering on all machines, just a few. Perhaps some aren't updated yet or something.

Inbound to WAN1 from 37.48.82.67. Machine OUTBOUND to dnl-16.geo.kaspersky.com

It seems to have subsided a bit. But I am concerned because Fortinet IPS is not known to issue false positives for Medium/High/Extreme events. Any false positive prone events are under 'Info' category which most people leave off.

Hi.
Since they do not give us support in the forums or by phone. I ask the question here. The Opera browser with its VPN enabled makes the antivirus does not analyze the web. Do not pass the AMTSO test. No VPN works well. If someone knows a solution very grateful in advance.
Greetings.
