I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: The worst day of my life ....

That's entirely up to you. There is no right or wrong answer. It boils down to your budget and whether or not you want to keep what you've already paid for. The best you could hope for would be to break even and simply start over. More likely, if you sell, you will lose money.

Hi, I (kind of) apologise for doing this here, but read on and you'll understand why.  I bought this computer in June 2014. I'm a student, so that was a lot of money for me, more than 1200$CAD. I bought it beause I thought (wrongly it seems) that this was a good laptop that would last for many years, with an excellent screen resolution and some perks that would help me through my university years. First strikeShortly after (not even a month), the glass of the screen broke for no obvious reason. After much hair pulling, mails, phone calls and a message on this forum, Lenovo sent me a box in which to return my computer and they fixed the screen, free of charge. (And you'll be happy to know that my screen is now perfectly fine even if my cat walks on it regularly, I dropped the computer (in a bag, but still) a few times and I open it from one corner. So, yeah, despite people telling me at that moment that it was my fault, I more than ever believe there was a FLAW on the original glass used to make the screen)  Second strikeYou would think, a personal computer at that price, they would have checked if it was working properly before selling it. Haha, funny you, NOPE. The yellow color is a complete horror. So your stunning resolution is good for nothing if there's a bit of yellow in what you're looking at. Lenovo tried to fix it with a bios update (which I did, yes) but it's not fixing much. And since the last couple of updates from Windows 10 I h... Read more

Hello Team,
My Name is Anish Mathew and you can reach at my number xxxxxxxxxxx).I would like to report one of the worst customer support I have ever experienced in my life. I am not sure which email address I should be sending this,so marked on all addresses I got from the internet. Please forward this to the right people as I didn't find any escalation point.
The story begins around last week of June 2013 when my laptop(Lenovo thinkpad edge xxxxxxxxx doesn't detect my battery. Since it was out of warranty I went ahead and bought a new Lenovo genuine battery thinking that my battery is corrupt. But the laptop didn't detect the new battery. As a next step I reached out at one of your Authorized service center in Bangalore below.
Caddons Computer Services
No.3350, KR Road,
BSK II stage,Bengaluru-560070
As per the call with the technician I took my laptop to the service center. The initial response itself was pathetic. The problems seems like the chip that is supposed to detect the battery is no longer working. As per Lenovo we cant replace the chip instead we need to replace the Mother board which would cost me 14k. Rahul told me that he will extend the warranty and get the mother board replaced under warranty which would cost me 8k. We agreed this and gave the laptop on 29th June 2013.Attached is the service report copy with the dates for your reference.
Guys Today is 21st Feb 2014 and you know what still nothing has... Read more

Your complaint is with the computer store that you took the computer to.  Go back to the store in person and get your computer back.  They've had it long enough for you to know they are never going to fix it.  Then call the Lenovo customer service number on this website (for India) and work with them.  This is a user forum, not a Lenovo customer service forum.  By all means take the computer store to court (if the Indian court system is anything like the US system, you are wasting your time), but they are not lenovo..

I have just experienced the worst customer service of my entire life. My husband and I purchased an HP Pavilion and have been having issues with the display screen since the beginning. After many, many calls to tech support with no resolution, the laptop was finally taken in 2 weeks ago for diagnostics. We were told that the laptop would be back to us on Sept 20; however, in an update yesterday, we were told a part was on backorder until futher notice, and the fix date was unknown. I called tech support today and insisted I speak to a supervisor to get this situation resolved. The supervisor--someone named Joseph--sounded sympathetic, said he would speak with a case worker, then put me on hold for an hour and never got back to me. I tried calling the tech centre back several times, and each time would be transferred to Joseph's line, only to be put into "hold purgatory" indefinitely. Joseph never did pick up the call. I will never again purchase an HP product.

Answer:Worst customer service experience of my life

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

I bought a Lenovo 300 C200 laptop in January 2008 from Newegg after cosulting with the I.T. Manager at my firm, first day I received it the problems started, I can"t connect to my home network, I called Lenovo Technical support in Atlanta GA, no help, the fellow told me to uninstall and reinstall the software,I did that but still no connection, I called again, the same thing, you need to download some drivers and it will work fine, I did that and the same thing happened, finally they told me to ship the laptop for repairs, I did, received it in less than a week, still no connection, I can only use the laptop to go online when I hook it to my LAN connection, again called technical support, I was given a case number and asked to download some updates from Lenovo, I did that and nothing happend, finally I took the laptop to the I.T. Manager at my firm and he told me the wireless card is bad and also the antenna on the laptop is bad . After spending more than $600.00 for the laptop and ram now I am stuck with a computer that don't work. I knew it was a risk  buying from a company that I have never bought a computer product before, my four year old  dell laptop is out performing my six month old lenovo. Is there anyone out there that is having the same problem with this type of laptop and Lenovo? Please help!!!!

Answer:Lenovo 300 C200, Worst Purchase of my Life

If you didn't buy this brand yet it doesn't mean this brand is bad, or does it?Anyway, very strange case. Is your notebook WiFI not working only at home or also everywhere? Maybe there's some hardware switch or keys combination to turn on your wireless?

I've had Macs and PCs -- and the majority of the time stuck with Japanese laptops like Sony, or have even have HP and Dell laptops. My experiences have varied, but on my last computer purchase, Lenovo T400 being recommended as such a workhorse -- I opted for this brand and it's turned out to be the worst purchase EVER. Just four days after I received it, the thing goes dead. Thank goodness for warranty, because I sent it back and was told the entire motherboard needed replacement. OK.... doesn't sound like a problem that should happen on day 4, but whatever. It's fixed and comes back to me. Performance is not spectacular but it suffices until about 10 months later when the entire display dies. The computer is running but the display is dead. Unbelievably enough, I have to move my work to another computer and send this tumor of computer back to Depot. It comes back after a week's lag this time. Thankfully, the display is back up and things look normal until later in the day, I noticed that the computer now never sleeps or hibernates. I look into the settings and they have been grayed out entirely. The **bleep** thing is on 24/7 unless it is turned off. I meant to send this back but given my line of work, there is really no "appropriate" time at which to have my computer missing for over a week. My bad, yes. My computer's warranty finally expired in January 2012, I would presume, since I bought it in Jan 2010. As luck would have it, I purchased an exter... Read more

Answer:The WORST computer experience of my life - T400

Hello and welcome,
I'm sorry you're unhappy with your T400.  I still like mine - a lot.
The grayed out sleep options are probably just a matter of clicking on clicking on "change settings that are currently unavailable" in Power Options, or making sure the right drivers are all installed.
I just tried plugging a monitor into my T400.  Came up automatically and duplicated the desktop.
What is the "corrupt" driver you've been trying to correct?  What operating system are you running?  What is that T400's product number? ( 2764-XYZ, for example).
Someone around here can probably help you with this.  These things sound fixable.  No guarantees, but people around this forum are pretty good with this stuff.
BTW, you can check your warranty easily: (above) Support -> Warranty -> Check Warranty Status, and enter your serial number.

As title says. I got this laptop 1 year ago. I have the i3 version of it (i3 2,1ghz, gt555m, 4gb ddr3 ram). Now I know the i3 processor is not a beast and I shouldn't expect it to run everything but really. I can't run ANY games that came out in the last 5 years without it being choppy. I have tried everything: setting the processor to 99% max, having the "Best battery health" option in the Lenovo Energy Management, nothing. I'm playing games like Counter-Strike Source and the ONLY way to have 60fps is if I play the game in 800x600 or 640x480. Anyone else has this problem?

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad Y570 - worst purchase of my life

You're judging too quickly. You really think a laptop with a dedicated GPU would struggle to play Counter-Strike??  The simple answer is that all your games are running on the integrated Intel HD 3000 graphics instead of the dedicated Nvidia GT 555M graphics. You should go to the Nvidia Control Panel and set the games you want played on the GT 555m to run on the "High Performance" GPU. Then go back and crank up the settings as high as you want, a GT 555M can max most modern games at 1366x768 resolution

Hi, So I am here writing to rant and also seeking assistance in this matter.  I have been trying to purchase a X300 for myself for the past week and half only to have my order cancelled one after another.  It started when I placed an order on 01/13/2009 and paid via my Paypal account.  I had the Paypal account for over 8 years and have confirmed shipping address on file.  On the 19th, I received an email telling me that my order was cancelled because Lenovo could not verify the funds.  I called Lenovo immediately and the rep (A very rude guy with broken English) told me that my accoutn was identified as fraud...  I was outragious at the time but immediately called Paypal.   I was then told by Paypal that everthing was fine and that Lenovo still in fact has a pending hold authorization on the account.  I called back Lenovo and was basically told that they don't care and if I am interested, place another order! Since I really wanted the X300, I did place another order using my AMEX card.  To make sure things will be okay, i called AMMEX to make sure that the transaction will go through if presented.  I then called Lenovo to have them note the account to call me if there is an issues.  After did all that, I received an email a day after saying the order was cancelled AGAIN!!  Obviously, I immediately called back and asked to be transferred to a supervisor.  The guy I end up spoken to then told me tha... I'm sorry to hear about your experience. I can only tell you of mine (somewhat limited) - a T61p from the Outlet that was a good one; an X61s (regular Lenovo) that was nowhere near as good; an ac/dc adpater also from the Outlet that took forever to register as having been ordered (almost two weeks - frankly, I almost forgot I had ordered it.) Ordered the adapter in anticipation of, yes, an X300, thru CPP, for a very good price. And Lenovo will win me back in spades if indeed it arrives Fri as tracking indicates (already in Alaska.)  This after just placing the order on Monday via Paypal. Perhaps you should talk directly to Sales? And bypass the Web ordering? I have no experience with 'phone' orders with Lenovo though ...

Hi, I have had my T430 since August of 2012 at the start of college. I am currently running windows 8.1 pro and I recently just noticed my battery life issues and after installing lenovo settings I discovered that my battery's capacity is at 27% of the original capacity. The battery life is really bad, e.g. it says 15 minutes remaining at 25% on POWER SAVER mode.  I have google this and it said to "reset my battery" but unfortunately 8.1 Lenovo power manager doesn't have that feature.  I am just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for what to do?  Will I just have to get a new battery?

Answer:Lenovo T430 Battery Life 1+ hour on life saver

you would have to have a pre-Windows 8 OS to gain that crucial battery reset function. This is one reason why i dislike running Win 8 on ThinkPad.

To all owners of X1 Carbon 2017 (5th gen).I read all of those reviews where people are impressed by 10+ hours of battery life (15,5h advertised), but I can't really figure out how....!? First time I tested was a normal working day - Firefox (a lot of Flash it must be said), Outlook, Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat. Nothing really heavy, no peripherals except Bluetooth mouse. Brightness dimmed 1 level below the ideal. It lasted for about 4 hours! I windows's list of apps affecting battery life, Firefox was on 1st place with 32-35% Second attempt - same set of tasks, however less Firefox (no flash) - 7 hours. Now in the middle of a 3rd attempt (using Opera this time) - battery time remaining indication goes over 10h only when I completely stop using the laptop Not many apps running in the background either (Dropbox, Skype...) So my question - do you guys get more than 10h of battery life and HOW? Do you enable "Battery Stretch"? How actively do you use it and for what?

I am wondering if end-of-life Vista is more dangerous than end-of-life XP. My reasoning is that Vista more closely resembles Win 10 than XP. So as MS was saying, attackers may reverse engineer patches meant for recent OS's into exploits that work on the end-of-life one. So it seems to me that Vista looks more dangerous than XP.

All parameters set to small values for using as little energy as possible for extending the time when nly battery power is available: The temperature is still (far too) high underneath where (center-center) the ventilation gaps are. How come? The only process take CPU-power is logmon.exe from IBM/Lenovo...3. Logmon.exe is alway running at about 15% CPU... How can I change that?4 Is the screen background light gas-filled? If so, will the life-cycle shorten if it turns on/off to frequently? (Light timeout value to low)Thank you IBM/Lenovo for this site.Regards,

Answer:Battery life and charge-cycle. Background light life-cycle.

1)  See and follow the hints and tips of the Battery University2) Look at the Z60m part list or into the HMM in order to detect which parts/components are sitting there, this will give you some hint what parts might get heated up a lot near the thermal device.3) AFAIK logmon.exe is part of or belongs to ThinkVantage rescues & recovery. - If it runs as a service on your OS, then you can disable that service or maybe you can just change the scheduling times for that monitor service inside r & r. A look into the r & r manual, which can be found on Lenovo's website, might can tell you more about this.4) Look for yourself here, CCFL backlights for notebooks have usually a life time of 15.000 till 30.000 hours. Yes in practise the life-time will shorten, but this is common for all electronic devices over time.

which do you think is the worst
i think kaspesky is the best and AVG is the worst

Answer:Which Is The Best And Worst

Well each program has their own way, it depends on what you like.
I think AVG is good except the false positives. Macaffe is also good. I don't think there's a good or bad program.
There all good, but I prefer others because of how they work and their protection method.

Hello all, trying to disinfect my girlfriend's computer, I've installed Ad-Aware, Spybot, and Kaspersky Auto Virus. With msconfig and the task manager I see a bunch of processes that I have no idea what they are, and some of them have no result on google, which is making this all that much harder to fix. I'm pretty sure there are multiple trojans and even if I delete them (assuming I can see them,) they come back. If I uncheck things in the startup menu, they recheck. Every time I open up Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, the site immediately changes to a random advertisement page. Also, when the internet is connected, the laptop recieves random popups at random times to more advertisement pages. Certain trojans that are detected will delete, but come right back, and even if the program says it will delete on startup, it fails, and it's still there with another virus check. I cannot do online virus checks due to IE and Mozilla not working.

I already found surfsidekick and fixed it using this site, I dont know what the rest of the trojans even are. I believe surfsidekick is all gone, I could be wrong. Some of the processes that I have seen are:

explorer.exe (Not bad)
rundll32.exe (Not sure if this is bad)
afhcp.exe (This appears 3 times at once)
jvpxpt.exe (Sometimes appears 2 times at once)

pdpxgcr.dll was found by Kaspersky Auto Virus, as was some of the above processes.

If anybody can help with this I will be eternally grateful.

Hello,Please don't start with fixing items yourself, because this is confusing and I see you already fixed some entries.... so the log won't show it anymore what we have to manually delete.I also see that you have Kaspersky and Norton installed. This is a very bad combination and can actually crash your system. So I recommend you get rid of Norton or Kaspersky. It is important you don't miss a step and perform everything in the right order!!Go to your controlpanel > software > add/remove programs and look if NewDotNet, New.Net, New.Net Applications or New.Net Domains is present and choose to uninstall. If not present, Download and use this uninstaller.* Please make sure your anti-virus and anti-spy ware programs don't hinder the complete removal of the software. In case they interfere, temporary disable them.Reboot afterwards! Important!!!* Download Brute Force Uninstaller.Unzip it to a folder of it?s own (c:\BFU).Read here how to unzip/extract properly: the Brute Force Uninstaller by doubleclicking BFU.exeNext to the 'scriptfile to execute'-window you'll see a little icon as shown in next picture: When you click that icon, a little window will open that says: 'Please enter the full URL to the sript you want to execute'In the field, copy and paste next URL: Ok. Ok working on my fiance's sisters computer, this time its the other sister. She had some serious issues going on with multiple variants of vundo a couple rootkits, browser hijacker and some droppers. Its really quit messy. I couldnt hardly boot up the machine, but I have it cleaned up as much as i can now. It took forever to be able even load up the microsoft update page. let alone get the computer to update spybot s and d. So with that I have already done considerable work and I can post some of the earlier logs if needed. But here are the most current logs.
-Currently I keep getting an adaware watch warning that it is blocking "crt5.tmp (3680) from loading" it is triggering as a win32 downloaderinjector.

-None of the spyware programs seem to adequately clear the memory of these problems I been having with each reboot the keep reloading. But at least I could finally update adaware, windows xp, spybot s and d, mabm, and superantispyware. previously they would be blocked or hijacked if in a browser.

-most current logs follow

I know custom computers are better, but for average computer users who only upgrade things like RAM and Video Cards...which are the best out of a bad lot?

Excluding Dell please. I mean ones you can walk into a Best Buy, and take home.

Answer:Best of the worst?

Compaq-probably the best deal
Sony- OVERPRICED (I have one...decent machine, too much useless software comes pre-loaded)
IBM- good quality, bad price

Question: Worst ISP

Post your reason for nominating the worst ISP

I don't know why I have such a huge chip on my should about AOL but anytime I try and help an AOL user - I just become extremely frustrated and disgusted.

I know not everyone knows a lot about PC's and I am far from knowing anything in the IT field but AOL users seem to have this nieveness (sp) about them

AOL (ISP) just brain washes their customers and basically handicaps them from doing basic functions that common users should be able to perform

(i.e Clearing Cache, Clearing Cookies, Typing in the URL field, Know where the URL box is, using Outlook, etc etc etc)

AOL to me is just a crap service and it frustrates me that so many people are just signing up for this crap just because they sent you some junk mail CD.

I have seen numerous polls that point AOL as the worst ISP to date yet so many people still use them. People get mad when I tell them I will not email an AOL account. They just don't get it.

Answer:Worst ISP

i am using earthlink right now and am not to thrilled.

First, My modem got toasted and it took them over two months and 4 phone calls for them to send me a new one.

second think is kinda strange, i have had their dsl for awhile and now they tell me it is no longer avalible in my area lol

anyway, just hasn't been a great experience IMO

Question: Worst PC ever...

Ok so, I formatted and installed Windows XP Home SP2 3 days ago. Last night I finished installing all my programs, all my drivers, apps, the whole sha-bang.

Today, I had to shut down to fix one of my cathodes. I started back up and the Windows loading screen came up like normal. Then, instead of going to the welcome screen, it went black. And it sits there forever. I tried at least 8 times with the same result.

So I put in Knoppix Live to save all my stuff so I can reformat again. Well Knoppix goes to the loading screen and sits on "Configuring devices" forever and does not start. Great... Tried that 3 times.

Now I put in my XP Home CD that I just got 3 days ago. Brand spankin new.

I put the disk in, it says "setup is loading files" and then says "Setup is starting Windows" and sits there.. forever... just like the rest...

So now, I'm out of options. I don't know what the fuck to do. My next plan of attack is eraseing the disk with the Ultimate Boot CD and [email protected] killdisk...

Unless anyone has any other suggestions?

At this point, I don't know if I need PC help or psychiactric help...

Answer:Worst PC ever...

When you fixed your cathode you might have bumped a card, I'd reseat any pci/agp/pcie cards and memory and see if it boots.

Question: Worst. Day. Ever.

I've had a nasty problem with my computer the whole day, and I NEED HELP DESPERATLY! I think it's the work of a virus, too!!

Problem #1: Boot sectors on my PC couldn't be found, therefore the OS(XP Home SP1) was not able to load up. I thought, "Ok, I'll check the forum." Got helpeful reply, but didn't seem to work because I didn't even know there was such thing as an administrator password, and I couldn't find out what my manufacturer set it to! So the brilliantly helpful page that would have worked perfectly didn't, because PowerSpec sucks royal @$$ and sets admin passwords for their customers.

Problem #2: I go into the BIOS to check why the OS couldn't be located, find that the computer can't seem to locate my one-and-only HD. "Well, this shouldn't be too difficult", so I go in and then set the drive to AUTO, thinking that it would straighten itself out.

Problem #3: It didn't straighten itself out. It says "No hard disk found."
I say "#@$%@#$%!!!?!"

Please help me find my HD!

Hello, you guys are my last hope.

Notice I havent posted any logs or added the necessary attachments.

a) would not download.
b) I could download and extract, but the virus has blocked it from running.

Update: Tried a script that disables/enables regedit. For the time being it seemed to have worked.
Run>Regedit worked. ran, ill update with the logs in a bit. ran, ill update with the logs in a bit.

As you might help me get stuff working I will update the thread with needed information.

How it started/ first thing noticed:
1) Noticed AVG Free would not update anymore

Symptoms as of now:
1) AVG wont update
2) AVG after running for some time (~10min) reports a error about a crash. (also other virus programs like Kaspersky, Search & Destroy and a few others I tried do the same)
3) Regedit wont run ( displays a black screen for a second and goes back)
4) Firefox constantly crashes (2 times writing this topic)
5) After some time running I lose the ability to visit webpages, either "connection reset" or just the regular "page cannot display".

For about 4 weeks now I have been battling with my computer because of malware. I have tried lots of programs including CounterSpy, Kaspersky, Ad-Aware, SpyZooka and SmitfraudFix.
It all started when i got a STOP message (0x7e) which said it was caused by malware but since then I have also got two other STOP messaged 0x8e and 0x7f.
I have the exact symptoms of the Downadup worm, but when I ran the FixDownadup.exe from Symantec it said it could not be found.
MBAM setup/installation is not working so I am going to rename it and see what will happen.

Hi All,

First off, I'm not a computer rookie by an means. I've talked to several friends who are baffled by my problem as well...

I recently upgraded my system from an AMD X2 4600+ to a AMD Phenom II 940, which required a new MoBo and RAM. After backing up my computer to an separate internal drive, I formatted my main drive and reinstalled Windows XP Pro (with SP2). I began putting all my programs, drivers, and data back on the computer when I started to experience virus problems...AVG would pop-up saying it detected a problem blah blah blah. I tried Spybot, MalwareBytes, and AVG but the problem persisted. Eventually, it got so bad the computer wouldn't boot properly...after loading the Windows XP splash screen the system would shutdown and restart all over again. I tried running all the cleaning programs in SafeMode; they cleaned some things but the problem still persisted.

Since the first incident (3 days ago) I have reinstalled Windows about 8X's! I've tried formatting the main drive (quick and full), I've tried repairing the Windows installation (recovery console and automated)...nothing seems to work. A new install seems to get the computer cleaned, but it only lasts a little while.

I assumed the virus is residing on one of my two storage drives, so I disconnected them before reinstalling Windows. I then downloaded AVG, Spybot, Adaware, MalwareBytes, ComboFix, and SuperAntiVirus and ran each. I then attached the drives and ran the programs... Read more

It all started when I looked for a program that would act as an alarm clock to wake me up this morning. Now I have a serious virus and my totally paid 2 years licensed NOD32 is totally unusable.

I have few programs like HiJack this, Combofix and SD fix handy but I need your help to start with correct steps to get this out of my PC, I was able to check some of the steps but now it's gotten very slow and I need to get into attacking position towards the virus.

It's XP service pack 2, and I was able to identify hldrrr.exe working in the background in NetLimiter program before the virus also made that program unusable.

I can't get hijack this work on the infected computer it says it's not a valid win32 application (which I suppose the work of the virus again)

what should I do guys? I really need information cleaned from HD because of some documents that I need for personal reasons, hope I can get a help on this one, thanks for your time.

Question: Worst mess ever!

I am working on a client's Dell laptop, messed up with worst case of spyware/malware/virus infections I have ever seen.

1. Unable to get to Control Panel (disabled) to uninstall any malware , programs.
2. Unable to get to any sites that offer on-line scans (McAfee, Symantec, TrendMicro, Kapersky, Panda)
3. Lavasoft Ad-Aware, McAfee, AVG Anti-spyware all seem to run okay, but are ineffective.
4. Permanent bogus "Windows Security Alert" window on desktop, with the message"Warning! Potential Spyware Operation! Your computer is making unauthorized copies of your system and Internet files. Run full scan now to pervent < yes, 'pervent' > any unathorised < yes, 'unathorised' > access to your files! Click her to download spyware remover...." Options for Yes or No do exactly the same, no option to close the box.
5. Task Manager is disabled, so I cannot stop the processes or any running applications.

Any tips on where to start?

Answer:Worst mess ever!

As you already have an open HijackThis thread, I'd think you'd know the best place to start is here:

These type of infection disable task manager, regedit, control panel, even safe the bad guys are aware of their vulnerabilities.

It takes knowledge about the registry, or specialised tools, to get control of your admin tools again.

Ok, most of you know i have a new pc. Yes thats great. Well its supposed to. Here the whole story:

October 22 2004, at 10 pm, i purchase the following from moonarch computer:
AMD 3500 939 130 nm
abit av8 3rd eye
74 gb raptor
160 gb sata seagate
round cables
eVGA 6800GT
thermaltake 480 watt butterfly

Ok, first then send me an email, saying that my shipping address isnt same as billing, and i must add it to credit card. I do so, and reply to their email, they said ok, good. It then takes then 1 week and a half to ship the pc, BUT BOTH HDs are back ordered. Now please tell me what i am supposed to do without my hard drives?

Ok, well the pc finally gets in houston, and the same day, my hds are shipped. i get all the stuff, and build my pc with no problems.

Now, i wont get into details how i found out, but one of my rams was faulty, so i RMA. ok, we send the ram back. Takes then an other week to ship my new ram. I FINALLY get my ram today. And guess what? The heat spreader is bent in half (xms 3200XLPT) i mean its completely bent, i dont even see how it happened, or how they fit it in the plastic box...

So i am gona REFUND this POS from POS monarch, and get some 3200 xlpro from newegg

That was my worst experience there... I am just pissed off

Answer:Worst Pc Experience Ever!!!

My question now. since im getting refund, wat ram to get now? HAS to be under 300

i was thinking the 3200xlPro for 275 (2x512) 2-2-2-5 latenties

Question: Worst Problem Ever

Hi! I am in terribe, terrible pain, and am shaking with

My second hard drive has been COMPLETELY WIPED!!!

I have lost 25gigs worth of data. Is there anyway to restore it? when i click on the drive in explorer, it says,

"the file or directory is corrupted or unreadable".

system restore says that

"changes made to drive(s) D: after this point cannot be reversedbecause the drive was either excluded from System Restore monitoring, or was turned off, or removed."

In computer management, it says the file system is RAW. Does this mean that is has somehow formatted itself?!!!

I recently changed the hard drives to sleep after two hours. could that have been the cause?

I tried to use chkdsk, but it doesn't even start.

Also, one friend heard that if i put it into the freezer, the files could be restored.

I have XP PRO

The first symptom was being unable to display pictures in IE7. The "display images" checkbox was unchecked so figured that would do it. Could then refresh and see pictures. Could even exit IE and get back in and see pictures. But upon reboot it didn't stay checked. Upgraded to IE8. Same problem. Made sure I had all Windows updates installed. Ran Malwarebytes several times. The software would reboot my computer randomly, rendering it useless, and things began getting even crazy.

All along the CPU was/is buzzing at 100%. The hourglass is constant. Task manager shows all this crazy randomly named files. Media center won't work. Updated video driver. Didn't help. Firefox wouldn't work until a while later. Shows images but unless in safe mode, pops up ads even with popup blocker installed. At some point the DEP files (Userinit, Windows logon, Task Manager) were being thwarted, forcing reboots.

Spybot found lots of stuff but didn't delete it. Booted in safe mode. Malwarebytes hung every time. Spybot took hours, gave a nice list, but upon reboot I could see in task manager all these files respawning. Downloaded the latest version of HiJackthis (2.02). Tried to create a log. Got this error each time:

I'm pretty sure I have some type of malware on my computer. I think I have a rootkit and God only knows what else. I've been fighting with this since Monday night.

I've tried scanning with McAfee and it didn't find anything. Sometimes McAfee now freezes. It doesn't normally do that. I also scanned with Malware Bytes Anti-Malware and found nothing. I scanned with the free version of Avira and found a few things, which were deleted. Then I scanned with the trial version of BitDefender. It found one thing and deleted it.

I'm pretty sure I'm still infected. My browsers open a lot, and I mean a lot, slower than they did before Monday. Sometimes they wont open at all. McAfee still freezes. It takes longer to open folders too, and sometimes the icons in the folder don't work. For example, the thumbnails in My Videos don't appear. This isn't normal for my computer. The vast majority of space on my computer is free, so I don't have too many documents. I just checked yesterday.

So I have every reason to suspect a rootkit is causing my troubles. I'm not an expert, so don't take my word for it. It might not be a rootkit. It might be some other awful pain in the butt.

My operating system is Windows XP, and I have a HP Pavilion Slimline s7320n PC.

I ran RootkitRevealer from Sysinternals. Here is what it found. I posted screenshots of what it found because I can't figure out how to copy and paste from RootkitRev... Read more

okay so heres what its doing to my pc:
- every now and then (quite often) random music will start playing. when i look in the proccesses running at the time, ending "iexplorer.exe" (2 things running with this image name) it stops. this will be running even when no internet browser is, but when i am using one, usualy firefox, when i end the iexplorer.exe, it will come up with a little message saying it has recovered a tab. this is very anoying.

- it has disabled all my antivirus software, including AVG, the profesional verion i paid ALOT of money for,and free versions of avast and mcaffee. so i am unable to run ANY virus scan.

- any new programme i try to download will come up with a message saying i do not have the appropriate privalages to run the programme, so i am unable to use the "hijack this" and get a log. this is with programmes that i have clicked "run" on the installation, instead of save.

- when i save the file and try to install from that, it will say that -e.g.- "C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\HJTsetup.exe is not a valid Win32 application." and will not open.

- when running firefox no search engines work; it took me a while to find this site...
also when running internet explorer, search engines do work to find the relevent sites, but clicking on anyone of them redirects me to a random advetisment.

Ok. For the background info. The first indication that I had that something might be amiss with our family computer, was approximately a week ago. When I attempted to shut down, it instead, restarted. Thinking that I had clicked the wrong button, I shut down again, and it again restarted. Instantly, red flags went up. I proceeded to run a battery of spyware removal scans, of which several problems were found, and fixed. Still no shut down. I was beginning to think that maybe my problem wasn't related to any malware. Then, I was using google to search out possible answers, and clicked a link to tom's hardware, a known site, to which I was redirected to a site offering to sell me spyware removal tools! Go figure! Guilty conscience perhaps? It took 3 clicks to get to tom's hardware. I have ran more scans, from every solid program at my disposal and no more problems found. I've investigated my config file, and add/remove programs list, long shot I know, to which there is nothing out of the ordinary. The latest? Today I started having the "dcom error" "Dcom service has terminated unexpectedly and windows needs to be shut down." As I type this, I've already had to run "shutdown -a". At any rate, I know that all of this has to be related, it's just beyond my scope of imagination to locate this bugger. I've included a copy of my hijack this log for your perusal. Question: I fear the worst

Like the title says, I've googled the url of the pop up that tries to open (I get something about IE not being able to open it) and it seems to come from something both nasty and fatal, but I can't seem to try the possible removal tool that i've seen mentioned.

Steaming Video (youtube/hulu) is impossible to run, music is broken up and choppy, and things run slowly overall. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, Superantispyware and AVG were all run in safe mode without networking, and I can't seem to get rid of this thing. It deleted all my desktop icons, quicklaunch, and start menu items (just the buttons, not the applications). PLease help me and tell me that I don't have to format my hard drive. My external HDD was damaged by water during the last flood, so everything would be gone unless there's a way to disinfect files (mostly just need the resume and some photos. Music'd be nice, but is replaceable)
Maybe I'm wrong completely. I'll now post my HJT etc.

Well I downloaded a bad torrent and got the windows update virus.

It kept popping up asking for me to run it, I kept hitting no and then I accidently hit yes in frustration.

I manually deleted the .exe in my temp folder and then I ran every virus software I could think of. However none of my software will update now, i'm assuming it's from the virus as it gives me some bogus error message and my internet works fine. . I did a spybot and ad-aware search and removed a few files I know weren't there before this incident. However the problem still persists and now all my scans turn up empty.

Any suggestions as to how I can purge my system?

Answer:Worst Virus i've ever had.

MalwareBytes normally does the trick on this sort of thing so download, install and then run that and you'll most likely get rid of it.

Hello guys, and thanks for any help I might receive. I had posted in the Windows XP forum on my original issue here: which was regarding a BSOD.

That problem was resolved by repairing windows but I am now unable to use most of the programs on my PC. Firefox will shut down and go into a "Firefox is already running" error. Internet explorer will also close down and give an error as well. Other programs such as Windows Media Player will unexpectedly shut down and give errors also. Wallpaper will disappear, etc. Just a few examples. Your going to see a few malware programs in the DDS, I did try using them before finding this forum, but they have all failed so far.

I did my best to follow instructions on what to do before posting, but I am unable to uninstall uTorrent and Daemon Tools, not even in safe mode. I have Windows XP Professional edition and the anti virus I was using was AVG 8 free.

Here is the DDS.txt:

It made my wallpaper a clickable image that brings you to one of those antivirus scans on the internet. Also, I get 3 or four different pop-ups (yourprivacygaurd, ultimate defender, windows security alerts etc..). I don't have to be on the internet even and they pop-up. I've run Ad-aware, AVG, and Spybot to no avail. Below is my hijackthis log, someone pleease help, I'm dying here!!!!

Hello all. New here. Big problem. my laptop has been taken over by malware. mostly the kind that pose as virus protection. PC antispyware 2010, Computer defender, Braviax, and some other ones that I cannot remember the name of right now. this all started a few days ago when a rootkit tool tried changing a registry that i subsequently denied, but they took over anyway.

I thought I had gotten rid of them, as they were no longer bothering me earlier today, then suddenly the screen was completely overwhelmed by a message saying that my computer was infected. I cannot access the internet, taskmanager, registry editor, or basically anything else for that matter. It will not allow any antimalware programs to run, or antivirus. The computer is almost completely locked up. I have read some threads about what to do, but im not that literate when it comes to some of the things that were discussed.

Where can I start when I cannot do anything?

Question: Worst Virus Ever?

My daughter brought me her computer that has the worst virus I have ever seen. (She is running a farly new Compaq machine with Windows XP Media Center). This appears to be a new version of Privacy Center. On boot, computer goes through Windows startup and asks for login/password. From there, starts to load, then screen goes black and a screen VERY similar to Privacy Center comes up asking for money. (The only difference is that in the upper left of the 'page' it reads Control Center - but their 'About' link refers to it as Privacy Center) The computer will not go past this page. <ctrl><alt><esc>, <alt><F4>, <ctrl><Alt><delete> all have been rendered inoperational. I have read other articles here and in other places with instructions as to how to remove it - all suggest Safe Mode. Well, here's where this virus gets nasty! When going into Safe Mode, the system reboots after mup is loaded therefore Safe Mode is Not an option. Tried a bootable F-Secure CD - it found a number of harmful files and renamed them but the machine still does the same nonsense .

Any suggestions aside from System Restore? (and I'm not sure that will fix the problem either!)

Answer:Worst Virus Ever?

Trying to fix my parents computer, running on windows XP. They obviously had some viruses and I ran some scans and got rif of some with different programs I'd already installed and tried to clean it out a little a couple days ago- it only got worse- it's now pratically unusable. Heres a list of the issues.

Desktop is blank with no icons, start menu comes up empty. I had to click an ad just to get into internet explorer here.
Getting a tons of errors at the same time reading "Failed to save all the components to //system 32..., the file is corrupted or unreadable." and another error that says the "Files indexation process has failed" and one that says "RAM memory is incredably unstable"
I can not exit out of a fake virus protection program called "system fix", and task manager will not open.
Occasionally a video or audio ad will pop up, ussually a virus protection ad.
I seem to be unable to right-click...
I can not seem to download any form of software
Most of the time when I search or click a link to something that will help, it sends me to an AOL website, or more spam.

Anything I can do to save this old piece of junk for them at this point?

Answer:Worst virus I've ever seen

Bump and update.

I've found logging in as a different user allows me one or two more abilities- it still shows a couple programs, and I can manage my way on to the internet, but every time I try to download some kind of anti-virus program, it ends in an error, and most times I try to go to an anti-virus site, it redirects me to spam. It still makes it look as if all the files are gone, even though they seem as if there still there- for example, I get get into itunes randomly and have all the songs, but when going into desktop, it doesn't show anything in any of main files at all.

Question: Worst service yet

I purchased a laptop and when it was delivered 3 days ago the keyboard did not work. After being on the phone 57 minutes (I timed it) and transferred to 7 yes 7 different people I was told ok you can return it. I had used my dell card to purchase it and needed another one right away. I was then told that the return will not be on my card for 30 days after they get their junk back. So I am stuck paying interest on the card for something I sent back AND for the new one I had to purchase. I tried to find a different place to post this but could not and the phone service was so horrible I could not get through to anyone else to complain. I have purchased 8 dells in the past and this will be the last. The only reason I purchased again was because it had 3 day free shipping and I need it for work.

Answer:Worst service yet

You really can't blame Dell there . I understand it can be frustrating but thing do happen ( broken ) at times when you use delivers . At least they're giving you a replacement . And the credit card charge is normal with returns, all companies do that. Nobody is going to give you back your credit before the 30 days period

I have a feeling this is a vundo virus or a variant of it, as some of the symptoms are similar to a vundo i previously got rid of on an old computer.

I cannot even boot my computer in safe mode, i get a blue screen of death immediately after windows boots that says DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

I tried using a vista repair disk to run system restore but that did not work. I managed to get a hijackthis logfile from the computer in safe mode before it crashed once, but now i cant even boot it long enough to do anything. I would just wipe the HD and do a fresh install but I need many files that are on my HD. any ideas what i can do??

Question: Worst Websites

I'd like to nominate a couple of websites for being about the most unusable I've ever come across. The BBC's Top Gear website and the Elephant, websites.Top Gear because it is so riddled with pop ups and adverts I find the site unusable and so irritating I generally don't bother with it anymore.I know adverts are needed to get free content but it doesn't have to be so intrusive, look at the adverts on this site (generally) or on Yahoo or Google.Elephant because it took me about an hour to get one quote out of the the site without it crashing and flashing up java errors and page unable to be displayed errors.Any one else have sites they would like to visit but which are just sooooo frustrating you don't bother? I mean proper commercial sites that have had big money spent on them and are still crap to use.

About a month ago probably I downloaded some programs which seemed completely harmless, but one of them problably contained a virus , that probably is a rootkit , THE WORST TROJAN I'VE EVER SEEN!
It uninstalled my antivirus , disabled all the firewalls and took control of my PC.
Every time that I turn on my pc a window appears and says:" do you want to run this software? C:\ProgramData\ "
and sometimes it  says also :" do you want to run this software? C:\Windows\System32\wservice.exe " and this probably is the process of the virus , wservice.exe..  Here there are some screen of this (I'm italian so these are in Italian)
And whenever I try to "kill" that process it says "Acces denied" (as you can see here )
And  when I try to install any kind of antivirus it says "File not found and the file path" like in this screenshot
I tried all: MalwareBytes , Regcleanpro , HitmanPro that doesn't work , and ComboFix that says this error and can't run : "Warning!! Do not run ComboFix in Compatibility Mode . Doing so may damage the machine." but I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate so it isn't in Compatibility Mode!!
I really don't know what to do anymore!
I searched on google and the only one that had a problem similar is this  .

The reason we ask this or do not respond to your requests is because that would remove you from the active queue that Techs and Staff have access to. The malware staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response, there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. That is why I have made an edit to your last post, instead of a reply. I'm considering buillding a new computer for my family. I know how to put a computer together, but i don't know the best things for my computer. For example.. i was looking at a Pentium 4 3.0 GHz Processor and i also saw a Pentium 4 3.8 GHz Processor. My guess is that the 3.8 GHz is better, but i don't know why it's better. What will .8 extra GHz do for my computer? I know whats better... but i dont know why.

Another example... I'm looking at a Pentium 4 3.2 GHz Processor and i'm also looking at an Athlon AMD 64 2.6 GHz Processor. The AMD is more expensive but is it better? This is all extremely confusing to me. Now i don't even know what's better.

I don't expect anyone here to tell me everything i need to know about how to distinguish whats better and why one thing is better than another... but do any of you know where i can learn about this? Possibly a website or maybe a book. Thanks for reading.

Question: I fear the worst

I have a terrible feeling that my computer is infected with a virus. THis is due to the fact that Norton antivirus is now innactive, by innactive i mean that auto-protect is disabled and if it is turned on it just exits, the same with the virus scanner. I decided to head to Symantecs website and i downloaded the tools for two viruses that matched the description of my virus, thes were a W32.Klez and the bugbear wirus. THe tools could not find these viruses on my computer, but i am still having the same problems with Norton, any help would be useful.

I had to repost this because apparently the mod who locked my thread didn't even read it.

I am posting this from my girlfriend's laptop.

Since I cannot make a log according to your preferences, I will repost the hijack this log from the thread that was locked.

I downloaded a funny looking file from the internet and now have HUGE problem. I incorrectly shut down my computer after it was infected bc i believed that it had frozen on me. when i tried to reboot in safe mode it wouldn't allow me to do so. i had to use my window's recovery cd's and ran 'chkdsk /r' just so that i could get the computer to run in safe mode. In safe mode i was able to run MBAM, SAS and ATF. MBAM and SAS found a ton of problems and was able to clear them out. In normal mode i am unable to open any of those programs. i receive the following message from "Security Suite" (which i believe is the major virus still on my computer) Message reads as follows...

"Windows Security Alert: application cannot be executed. the file mbam.exe is infected. do you want to activate your antivirus software now?"

Then another one follows that up with....

"Windows reports that computer is infected. Antivirus software helps to protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. Click here for the scan your computer. Your system might be at risk now." (that's word for word btw, not my typos)

My AVG is also acting screwy and reports an infection of 'Trojan horse generic18.BMHL' about 30+ times!

Almost any icon that i click on my desktop will report that it cannot be executed. It also took about 15-20 minutes for the computer to boot up and just bring me to the desktop.

I'm using another co... Read more

Why does it work for some, and not for others???? Do a certain percentage of mobos, cards, mem... are defective or something? what is the deal. First of all this virus will not let me download the GMER files, just like everything I try to download like any malware remover it crashes IE saying it incurred a problem and must close. Also it will not let make a zip file to send the attach text. So all I got is the dds.
Here`s what I`ve tried so far:

Like I said it won`t let me download any malware software files. It has also blocked my Mcaffe and windows defender. Microsoft update page times out and won`t load. It also disabled system restore. Even booting in safe mode I can`t access anything.
I bought an exturnal hard drive to save some files before I reinstall windows but my computer dosen`t recognise the drive. but the drive is recognised when I install it on my laptop. Next I bought a flash drive and downloaded Malwarebytes on my laptop. Now I can install it on my computer but it won`t execute.
Finally I said hell with I`m just going to bite the bullet and reinstall XP. When it started loading the files from my restore disk it stopped half way through and said it was missing a file. I could skip the file but I thought better of it because I might make things worse. I tried the disc on another drive with the same results. Someone told me the disc could be scratched, but I haven`t had a chance to try it on another computer since my laptop does not have a dvd drive. Do you think the virus could be making it stop the install of XP. Seems this thing has all the bases covered. Any help would be much appreciated. Th... Read more

Question: Worst Virus Ever

A new virus has just been discovered that has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive ever. This virus was discovered yesterday afternoon by McAfee . This virus simply destroys Sector Zero from the hard disk, where vital information for its functioning are stored.

This virus acts in the following manner:
It sends itself automatically to all contacts on your list with the title:"A Card for You".
As soon as the supposed virtual card is opened the computer freezes sothat the user has to reboot. When the ctrl+alt+del keys or the reset button are pressed, the virus destroys Sector Zero, thus permanently destroying the hard disk. Yesterday in just a few hours this virus caused panic in New York, according to news broadcast by CNN.

This alert was received by an employee of Microsoft itself.
So don't open any mails with subject: "A Virtual Card for You." As soon as you get the mail, delete it!! Even if you know the sender !!!
Please pass this mail to all of your friends.
Forward this to everyone in your address book. I'm sure most people, like myself, would rather receive this notice 25 times than not at All

Please forgive the length of this explanation. I have tried to prepare my post as described in your instructions, but the DSS program will not run as described, and I can't extract the ZIP file for the "gmer" program. At the moment, I can only run my computer in Safe Mode, and only if I "press ESC to prevent SPTD.sys" (as per the prompt during startup). Additionally, I am unable to uninstall "Daemon Tools" as you request, and running the program to uninstall the SPTD driver is useless because (I suspect) I am running in Safe Mode without SPTD.sys in the first place. In lieu of the text files you ask for, therfore, I will provide what details I can and ask for your suggestions.

My computer has obviously gone bonkers. A few weeks ago, I was hit with the "Malware Defender" virus, which did some pretty serious damage. After some research, I acquired Malwarebytes Malware-Removal program and ran it several times, (in safe mode and in normal Windows), until all symptoms were gone. The computer has worked fine for several weeks.

Last night, (about 2-3 weeks later), something even worse took over. All very suddenly, it splashed up a ton of pop-ups with endless dialogue boxes, displayed warning balloons from my systems tray, and disabled my tasks manager (ctrl+alt+del). I forced a shut down of my computer, and when I restarted it began to load Windows XP and then flashed up a blue screen before restarting automatically in the F8-... Read more

Question: Worst computers

Hello all, I just wanted to let everyone know as a consumer dell desktop's aren't worth the price being asked. Upon viewing their catalog, I came across what I thought was a nice desktop and the price seemed fair enough so I thought. From the moment the computer arrived it broke down twice and they sent a service guy to replace the motherboard. Upon making the necessary repairs, my speakers stop working. Upon contacting dell, I was told my warranty expired and therefore had two options. Option 1 upgrade a system which was less then a year old or pay them $400 to upgrade my warrenty. Since then, I've spoken to other consumers who told me they were forced to take dell to court because their systems were junk. My business partner doubted my concerns till he purchased a $3000 desktop from dell and spent an additional $400 to upgrade a warrenty which expired in six months soon found out he got ripped off. His new pc now sits in a repair shop and he just found out that all the compenets he requested dell failed to add any of them. So buyers beware when it comes to Dell.

Answer:Worst computers

As as tech community, most [informed] members already knew that. Same goes for all brands, that's why there are so many system builder threads o.o.
EDIT: What I meant was that Dell computers are not very good, not that they are unreliable, or have poor warranty.
