Please help. I've tried everything. ASUS Mouse/ Touchpad / Trackpad erratic , jumping

Question: Please help. I've tried everything. ASUS Mouse/ Touchpad / Trackpad erratic , jumping

I've tried everything. No one had ever had this problem, except me. Searching online and Youtube proved to be no help. I beg all of you who have experience with issues like this to please read.

When I first brought my laptop (ASUS Q304UA) , it was perfectly fine and no problems. However, up until 7 months into using it, the trackpad suddenly became unresponsive out of no where. It would jump around and fly everywhere when using it. The multi touch gestures would make the screen go crazy and do all sorts of zooms, multitasking, etc when just trying to scroll down. It was definitely unusable.

This prompted me to RMA it to ASUS, which took them one month to repair it. They had apparently replaced only the hard drive claiming it was a "bad sector" or whatever... Upon several hours of use after repairs, the problem was back.

I then RMA'd it a second time which made them replace the motherboard and trackpad. Unfortunately, the problem did come back, except it took a little longer (5 days/ 1week).

Now I know that this is NOT hardware because I encountered that restarts, restores, etc all solve the problem temporarily and then comes back. When messing with programs and devices, I feel the mouse gets a little better for a couple minutes but then resumes to its terrible and erratic behavior, rendering my laptop COMPLETELY useless.

I cannot do ANYTHING with this trackpad as it constantly jumps around and teleport making it EXTREMELY difficult to click on the desired button. Since I am very busy from work and school, I don't want to send in my laptops to repairs for the third time. Additionally, I believe the hardware does not have any effect on the behavior of my mouse and that it's windows 10 causing the problem. That is what I've heard someone hyposethize- the trackpad is a software issue.

Yes, my laptop's mouse works fine with a bluetooth mouse, but I am the laid back type of person that constantly uses it on my lap. So a trackpad does mean a lot to me.

Here are some youtube videos I made about this problem:

You Tube

You Tube

I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling my ASUS percision touchpad drivers, the ATK package, etc.

I even tried disabling multiple drives from device manager and seeing if there were any drivers that did not work with each other. Restores/ factory reset did not fix the problem
permanently, but rather temporarily.

Thank you for reading.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all,  Having puchased a X1 Carbon few days ago, I realised that my trackpad and touchpad are acting erractically when I use the mouse at the same time. I detected these erractic movements due to some accidental touching of the trackpad and touchpad.  For example; my trackpad cursor would display a vertical and horizontal scrolling icons when I move the trackpad and I could not scroll my document using my mouse and touchpad. The scrolling icons would disappear after a short while and I would no longer move the cursor with the trackpad. However, the trackpad and mouse are able to move the cursor. However, scrolling remain unresponsive. I restart the machine and all is fine again till I tried to control the cursor with the trackpad again. I tried to disable the trackpad and touchpad since I have a mouse connected but only the trackpad can be disable.  This is my first Thinkpad and I assume users will disable both the trackpad and touchpad with a connected mouse. I do not know if these problem exist out of the box since I connect the mouse to it on my 3rd day of usage and I found them due to the accidental touching of the trackpad last night. Further trial and error confirmed their erratic movements. I tried to re-install the drivers and navipoint but the issue remained.  Is my trackpad and mousepad having problem for these erratic movements and by default, both the trackpad and touchpad cannot be disabled in Thinkpad?

I've had my y510p for about 3 months now (after it was replace because the first one I recieved went all crashy and insane). I "upgraded" windows 8 to windows 8.1 in a funny moment about a week after I got it - which over all seems to have gone totally fine. The elan touchpad has always been a little anoyingly "wooly" but basically functioned well. But about 3 weeks ago it started making little hops as I tapped meaning I clicked on the wrong thing and then it started sometimes wandering and jittering while my fingers were resting on it (especially anoying when using 2 finger scrolling). then it started going into a little dancing about mode where occassionally it starts hopping about and clicking on things. which is a total pain. It doesnt do it all the time but it seems to get more frequent. it also seems to increase with sonsistent use (like if im clicking arround on pinterst or something then it seems to get worse and worse - grounding issue?) Its anoying enough now that I dont trust it and as often as possible turn it off and use an external mouse - but obviously that not good enough. I have downloaded and installed the more recent drivers for windows 8.1 64bit from the lenovo website here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?DocID=DS037924 and its hard to say really but if anything that has made it marginally worse... Any help gratefully recieved - I really hope its a fixable software problem as I'm in the middle of a big p... Answer:Ideapad y510p elan touchpad erratic jumping and clicking

Unfortunately the drivers on the Lenovo website are quite old.  I got fed up with how the track pad works in the Y510P so I started experimenting with a variety of drivers.  The ELAN drivers I am using now are intended for Toshiba laptops but they work fine on the Y510P.  You can read more info starting here. http://forum.notebookreview.com/ideapad-essential/720343-ideapad-y510p-359.html#post9622928 I find that the track pad is a lot better with these drivers.  There are more adjustments and more features so you can get it working like how a track pad is supposed to work.   Lenovo has ignored this problem for months.  You will need to fix this problem yourself. I plan to write a clear guide this weekend with lots of pictures to show you exactly what needs to be done to install these drivers into a Lenovo Y510P.

Product: HP Spectre x360Product #: L0Q59UA#ABL Hi, I'm having a problem with the touchpad's sensitivity and responsiveness. My father bought me this laptop a week or two ago and it's been great. By far the best laptop I've had thus far, but now it is having a major issue with the touchpad. I've scoured and googled this problem and these forums and found similar things but all the solutions offered were ineffective and I'm also having some problems I didn't see reported about. The touchpad was fine at first, and whenever I restart the laptop, it's fine and works as intended. However, a few minutes into use, if that, it starts to act up. By this, I mean the following: The cursor does not go where I intend itIt's laggyLeft click results in that omni-directional scrolling icon and trying to move the mouse means scrolling/moving the page.Right click moves off to the side and is generally weird and cannot click accurately.I can no longer soft tap to click/select something. The mouse moves on its own. As I was typing this, it tried to select/move/edit stuff. It's very erratic and makes typing or clicking or selecting very difficult. The page scrolls down on its own.I'm starting to think my laptop is haunted. There's more I can't think of right now, so I might edit the original post/comment with more info or make a subsequent post in this thread. I've tried to clean the touchpad with a lightly wetted towel (to get rid of any oil finger stains or whatever), and follow... Try re-installing the touchpad driver. You can download it from the Acer website which is appropriate for your country. Their UK website is here: http://www.acer.co.uk/ac/en/GB/cont...If you need a different country, scroll down to the bottom, and on the right-hand side click "United Kingdom" which will bring up the complete list of countries.message edited by phil22

Troubleshooting a fairly new HP laptop. Had been infected with a virus. Cleaned it all up but was experiencing erratic mouse behavior. The customer claimed the behavior started when he got hit with infection. While the pointer itself moves fine the left and right mouse buttons intermittently act like they are being held down causing the pointer to drag and highlight everything in site. At other times the buttons do nothing at all. At other times the left mouse button triggers a rightclick menu. And at other moments all mouse control is fine. This occurs equally on the touchpad or when using an external USB mouse. I tried disabling the touchpad completely but the problem still occurs when using the external mouse. I tried updating the sypatics touchpad driver but that made no difference either. I finally resorted to wiping and completely reinstalling windows but the problem still persists. For the hell of it I then updated the BIOS firmware but that made no difference either. All keyboard function work fine so I have been having to resort to using the arrow keys and alt tab and such to navigate around. I ran a Passmark Burn in Test and everything passed.

A couple of additional points. I ran the Hirens Boot CD which is similar to the Ultimate Boot CD. I then booted into the Mini Windows XP and the same erratic mouse behavior occured so this is clearly not an operating system issue. Also when I wiped and reloaded Windows I used the HP Recovery partition and ran thei... Read more

I got the computer in November 2015. I have been using an external mouse since then. Over the past few weeks, I have had constant touchpad/mouse issues with it acting erratic and clicking around automatically without my intervention. It keeps clicking on things randomly and I am just unable to control it. I have to restart the laptop with great difficulty and many time i am not able to save the work done. It happens once or twice a day (I use laptop for more than 10 hours).

Hi unsram,
Welcome to Lenovo Community.

Just so the helpers can assist you better, which Yoga model do you have?  Which operating system? You mention that you have been using an external mouse. Have you tried using a different external mouse - just to rule out whether or not the problem is the mouse that you have been using. They do wear out.

After I installed windows 8. My laptop touchpad mouse start jump and the cursors move away.

Answer:touchpad mouse jumping

Hi Rose,

Poor you, it would seem that Win 8 has been a bad move for you. . .

Anyway have you made an attempt to see if you can update the software and drivers for the touch pad. Never liked them myself (not coordinated enough to use them), albeit sometimes that can be the problem when installing a new OS. Sometimes if just not the OS, but the lack of a proper driver (fault of touch pad manufacture).

Two things you can do:

1. See who the manufacture is and go to their web site to see if any are available.
2. Go to the site of the laptop manufacture and see if they have an update to the driver.

Good Luck. . .

Hello Everyone. I own an X-1 Carbon (20A7) and could not be more disappointed with how the first week with this laptop has been. I have always been a fan of Lenovo products. I also own a Z580 laptop and love it. It was half the price and I never had an issue at all. When I first received the laptop  I started it up (it has Windows 7 preinstalled) and was unable to connect through Wi-Fi. It would not find any connections.  Thinking it was a driver issue I went Lenovos site and downloaded the driver...it would not install because it could not recognize the hardware. I contacted Lenovo Support and they could not figure it out so they wanted me to send it in. Figuring I would try one last thing, I then went onto Intel's website and downloaded the network driver. It worked. After that was fixed I assumed it would be smooth sailing.... When I use the touchpad it constantly jumps to a random part of the screen, especially when i try clicking on something. I have changed the sensitivity and it has not done anything. It is driving me insane. Yes, I use Google Chrome but this is not a Chrome issue. This happens CONSTANTLY whether or not I am surfing the web. I downloaded Chrome because i thought this was an Internet Explorer issue. It is so frustrating and frequent it makes using the laptop near impossible.  The Dragon program, which I am about to be delete randomly comes on and for some reason changes the sound up or down.  I don't know why. ... Have a Panasonic laptop that's touchpad started going nuts jumping around and right clicking itself. It works fine in safe mode, and for a while I could operate the laptop just fine by leaving the touchpad disabled in the bios and using an external mouse while I tried to fix this problem, but now the external mouse is doing the same thing.Still runs in safe mode, but you cant do anything in regular mode because of all the random clicking everywhere. I had ran two different Virus scanners (Clam and Avast) hijack this(checked everything and there's nothing, but had to be in safe mode to run hijack), and used system restore to go back a month before the problem ever started.I managed the virus scans in regular mode. It would be horribly hard to set all the software needed back on to this laptop if I have to wipe it so I'm trying to avoid that. It's a laptop installed into the firetruck we run out of.

Any ideas?

Because you'll be asking for them, here's pics I managed to take of Hijack this in regular boot mode. It's all I could manage with the mouse probs going on and took forever just to get the program up and going.

I've had my laptop for a little over 4 months. I primarily use a wireless mouse with it...and every so often the mouse will take on a mind of its own. I can be typing or even trying to use the mouse and it will start jumping all over the screen on its own...selecting things...even switching/moving windows as if buttons are being pressed as well. At first I thought maybe it was interference with the touchpad...so I've tried both disabling the touchpad when the external mouse is plugged in...and disabling the touchpad altogether and the issue still occurs. So then I thought maybe the mouse is the issue, so at one point when it wents nuts on me, I turned it off and switched over to the touchpad...but the erratic behavior continued. The only thing I can do to fix it is to reboot...and then things are typically okay for several days before the issue starts up again. Any thoughts on what the issue maybe, or troubleshooting tips?

Hi everyone!
Like you I have been having all the same touchpad issues. At first I thought it was ESD and troubleshot that for a few days. I finally concluded that it had nothing to do with ESD and moved on to possible driver issues. I installed every driver pack I could find, modified them, turned off driver signing in order to install the OEM drivers, used Windows 7, 8, 8.1, Ubuntu etc... but to no avail.
From the onset, some sort of physical problem seemed to be the most logical conclusion. The question was just what! I couldn't believe that synaptics could make such an aweful touchpad that was incapable of actually working. I made the assumption moving forward that the issue had to be caused by something small. During my last clean install of Windows 8.1 I noticed that the default windows driver caused the touchpad to be EXTREMELY sensitive. You'll notice that once you install Dell's latest driver the cursor movement calms down considerably. The touchpad is still extremely sensitive, the driver is just taking all that raw input and generalizing it into a more... Read more

Hello. I wonder if there are any solutions for the following problem I am having with my touchpad. The touchpad mouse is extremly glitchy Please help, as this is a really basic requirement for any touchpad. I am currently a little disappointed as this is the most expensive laptop i have ever purchased. The touchpad/ imagepad has many functions, but the simple ability to be unable to point to exactly where you need to 20% of the time, is making this almost unusable. Notebook details: HP Envy 17 - Windows 7 - Model - 17-3270NR I look forward to your help guys! Hi all,

I've basically spent the whole day looking for a solution (which I still don't think I have), so figured I'd try my luck here.

The trackpad/touchpad (mouse cursor) on the Dell XPS 13 (9343) will randomly freeze-up, stop scrolling, stop being able to mouse click, start randomly resizing/scrolling or will cease to do anything at all after a while. This is a known issue apparently and commonly experienced by most owners.

Does anyone know of an actual solution for this? Dell released a firmware update that supposedly addressed the issue however unfortunately mine started doing it again today to the point where I had to literally power the machine off and reboot.

From what I've read here:

YES!!! A SOLUTION/ACTUAL WORKING FIX! XPS Laptop's - Touchpad / Touch pad / Mouse issue. Windows 8/10 need apply. Scrolling in Chrome mirrors that of Edge. Now THIS is Precision. Scrolling you're actually used to seeing on a laptop. : Dell

It sounds like my next move might be to try installing the windows 10 PS/2 generic driver from Synaptics?

Any advice/help on this would be greatly appreciated! I can't really find any solutions or updates past 2015..

Between this and trying to update my sound driver, I'm losing my hair, FAST.

Hi all, I just received my IdeaPad U300s Laptop yesterday. A really nice device I have to say, BUT: As for numerous other Ultrabooks (I had a Zenbook first which I returned due to a catastrophic keyboard and touchpad) the U300s touchpad also seems a bit flawed to me. When I have one finger on the touchpad to move the arrow and then (while leaving my finger on the pad) perform a click (not just touch) with my other finger on the left button area, the mouse arrow jumps up 20 - 30 pixel during the click. Although this only happens in 20% of the cases it's needless to say that this is EXTREMELY annoying! Does anyone have the same problem or maybe a quick fix for this? Best regards,SirDaedalus

ASUS laptop - after installing windows 10, I am unable to use mouse or touchpad. there is no response. The touch screen works.

Answer:ASUS laptop Mouse & touchpad don't work after W10 install

First thing I would try is this, as it's easy:Turn off laptop, remove power cord, remove main battery if at all possible. Next hold the Power Off/On button down for about 20 seconds to discharge the motherboard components. This has helped unstick things at odd times.Otherwise, see if you can make your way to Device Manager and see if any errors are showing under "Keyboard" and "Mice and other pointing devices". Let us know if any errors are showing (usually small yellow icons). You could also under each appropriate sub-heading right click and use Uninstall then restart the computer. DO NOT say yes to any request to remove software. On restart this will find the items as new hardware and attempt to re-establish the software, which often fixes issues.Failing that check with your computer manufacturer to see if you have the latest drivers for both items, preferably ones that say Win 10.I realise this will be fiddling from the touch screen so I wish you well. If necessary you might be able to download drivers as files on another computer then see if you can copy them across using a flash drive.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanksmessage edited by Derek

I just received my Y510P after a month of waiting and all I can say it was not a worthwhile wait. I knew there were some hiccups about the trackpad, but mine just jumps around everywhere even when I am not touching it. I don't think it's the drivers because the trackpad behaves very well when it is unplugged from any power supply or when my palms are beside the trackpad pushing it down. Has anyone encountered this problem with their y510p?

Answer:Erratic Y510P Trackpad

hi jng8s,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

If you have an ELAN touchpad then your issue might be similar to this thread. Try the fix that unclewebb have mentioned and observe (this requires manually installing the ELAN .inf driver file and setting up a dead area on the upper part of the touchpad).

If the above trick doesn't work, perhaps the electrical outlet where you plugged-in the AC adapter is not properly grounded - similar to this thread (not a Y510p). Try to use a different outlet (preferrably at another side of the house) and observe.

I'm having difficulties with the trackpad... When using the edges for scrolling up/down, the behavior is all but smooth. It just doesn't respond according to my finger's movements (skips quickly a part of the webpage when I try skimming through it slowly, for instance). I explored the control panel, tried various settings and nothing was satisfactory. The two-finger scroll is also quite bulky. I finally tried activating the tactile zones so that the bottom right corner would make the active window scroll down, and the upper-right corner scroll up. The effect is null: the pressure in the zone is registered properly as I can see on the control panel, but it doesn't make anything scroll up or down. Since this is in all likeliness a software issue (the movements seem to be registered properly from what I see in the control panel), I would hope driver fixes are to come so that the movements are reflected in a more functional way in the applications!

I bought a Yoga 460 from the Lenovo Outlet (refurbished) and it is completely wrong on specs (wrong graphics, wrong HD, wrong display, etc.). However, moving beyond that for a moment, I am having two issues related to trackpads/trackpoints. I am on Windows 10 and haven't even installed anything. (1) The cursor is arbitrarily moving around the screen. When I turn off the Trackpoint, the cursor no longer moves erratically. (2) Once I turn off Trackpoint, the Trackpad is still super laggy. Moving the cursor across the screen is choppy and slow. The touchscreen, meanwhile, is lightning quick and fine. I updated my drivers and hardware checks out in Lenovo Solutions Center. I am terribly disappointed in the product I have received so far and hope that once I return the product and receive the product I actually ordered.

Hi all,I purchased my laptop about two months ago, but recently, I've been having trackpad issues. The trackpad will be fine at times, but may become unresponsive, move super slowly, and at other times, jump around the screen, and register two or three fingers on the pad. I have looked at solutions in this forum. One popular method seemed to be to uninstall Intel Technology Access, but when I went through my programs, I saw no such thing. I've installed an updated trackpad driver for this model, but am still experiencing the same issues.Whenever I use my mouse, the tracking seems to be completely fine, so the issue seems to be completely isolated to the trackpad. I understand that I could always just use the mouse, but it would be nice to have a fucntioning trackpad as well. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

2 Issues: 1. When I touch the trackpad and I'm about to click something, the cursor will jump to a different area of the screen. I think I read about this in a longer thread but I didn't see an actual solution (many speculated that it was an egregious hardware error, I hope they're wrong). 2. Less of a major issue, but still quite a pain. When I'm in Excel 2013, I can only scroll horizontally (two fingers on the trackpad) to the right, when I try to scroll left, nothing. Thanks for the help.

Question: ERRATIC TOUCHPAD

Hi, I have a dell Inspiron 14 5477, the problem is when I plug the AC connector the mousepad becomes erratic in a way that is impossible to use, auto right click, jumps, random click without clicking  and that kind of stuff, I don't have the original adapter, the plug is that with 3 legs, 2 flat and 1 cilindric in the middle, and the adapter is for 220V, I have tried with 2 different ones but I still have the problem. Thnks

I've been going nuts with the Elan driven touchpad since I got this machine in Dec 2014. I've trouble shot the problem down to the Elan software being slowed down/interrupted when trying to use the mouse. The diagnosis is repeatable. If something is running using the CPU moderately at normal priority and the Elan software is also running at normal priority the touchpad becomes totally erratic. If under the same cpu conditions I plug in a wireless usb moue no problems, hardware driven. If I bump the Elan software to a high priority and start a moderate cpu process the touchpad work fine. My question is - is the a way to make the touchpad a hardware driven device rather than Elan software driven.

Mouse pad jumps and moves erractically and often magnifies screen or reduces it to a small size such that neither screen can be read.  Curror jumps all over the place when typing.   Customer Support Techs have attempted to fix - I forgot trouble ticket number - by me allowing them access to my computer but in both instances the two different techs were unable to make a permanent fix.   The mouse pad is still extremely sensitive and cursor  jumps erractically around the screen.  The mouse pad is so useless that a wireless or USB mouse must be plugged in.     In my 50 plus years of computer purchase/use of both Mac and PCs, I would not recommend this model computer to anyone considering a laptop.  Bummer.

Question: erratic touchpad..

Just recently my touchpad has been acting strange...
It does not move in the linear direction and constant speed which was normal until now...
Now I have to use the touchpad several times to move it across or up and down and the speed changes-usually slower-the there seems to be less control over its regular motion.
I have checked the settings on the Control Panel but they have remained the same.

Probably a driver. Pleased go into device manager>pointer devices. Make sure the driver is listed and working properly

Please go to start>search>type device manager.
Are there any "unknown devices" with yellow triangles on them?
Is you driver there , listed, and working?

If your driver is missing, or there is a yellow triangle on it, you will need to update it.

Question: Erratic touchpad

I have an erratic touchpad on my laptop, it is a Synaptics touchpad on an Advent laptop.Basically, when I touch the pad, quite often the curser will jump from one place to another, or sometimes will go back towards its original position when I remove my finger.Does this sound like a settings or driver problem? The pad is clean without any dust build-up. Any help appreciated.

Answer:Erratic touchpad

Driver may be corrupt. Have you a Optic mouse connected? if so try with it removed. If none of these sort it Go to Laptop web Site to see if there are any new drivers for touch pad

Hi, I have been having problems with the touchpad on my laptop. It seems far too oversensitve and is forever dragging things across the screen and the slightest touch selects something or closes something. It in fact is pretty unusable. I have tried updating the drivers and reinstalled the old one. I have also tried the Elan settings page and no matter what I select on there it makes no difference. For instance I turn off the tapping and dragging and dropping options yet that makes no difference. It is almost like the Elan settings are not working or are unconnected to the touchpad itself. The problem is so bad that I am having to use a plug in mouse, which works but is not what I want to do. I bought this laptop because it was so portable and the last thing I want to do is carry around a lot of other stuff. I have tried everything I know and have ran our of options. If someone could offer some advice, or there are others who are having or have had similar problems, I would love to hear from you. Thanks.

Hello all, I just purchased my first Lenovo product, and received my shiny new z40 on Thursday.  Right out of the box, I was very happy with it, and spent the whole weekend setting it up the way I like it and getting used to it.  No complaints until just today (Tuesday) around noon, when suddenly, the touchpad got super spazzy, and started jumping about 2 inches to the left when I tried to use it.  The situation has grown from a mild nuisance (jumping every few times I used it) to a complete problem (jumping around like crazy every time and the whole time I use it).  I have NO idea what might have suddenly gone wrong!  I've tried every piece of advice I've found on other forums - from downloading the newest driver, to changing the pointer speed, to disabling the clickpad, to lowering the sensitivity.  NOTHING is working!!!  Very upset to be dealing with this on my BRAND NEW computer! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,- Katerina

Answer:HELP! - Jumping touchpad on Z40.

hi kwalker,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Can you try Going into Control Panel and look under mice and other ponting device.
Look for your Synaptics or elan Touchpad.  Rightclick on it and choose to uninstall, make sure to place a check on a prompt asking to delete driver software for thi device.

Now Open your control panel / Programs and Feature / Uninstall a program, Look for the same Synaptics touchpad or Elan EGIS tech and Uninstall it.
If non is on the list just ignore the second step.

Restart your computer and check if it works ok.

Let me know your findings
Cheers!

The touchpad on my ProBook 450 G3 has behaved erratically on and off for the three months I've had it.The problem:Sometimes the touchpad freezes if I rest my hands/arms anywhere on the brushed metal top (the keyboard tray, for want of a better word). The cursor won't move, scrolling and clicking doesn't work. If I hold my hands so that no part of my hands or arms touch the metal, not even on the edges, it will work ok (but I look perfectly ridiculous doing it). After a while (usually only a minute or so), it starts working normally again. And then, a few minutes later, seemingly at random, it happens again. At first, I thought I must be just a freak occurrence, then, when it kept recurring, that I'm doing something wrong. But the exact same thing happens when other people use my laptop.I'm guessing it's a hardware issue, because the only explanation I can think of is that my hands somehow ground the touchpad through contact with the metal casing (or something like that, anyway), and I'm fairly sure it's not supposed to do that.Any thoughts on what may be causing this, wheter there are som settings that might fix the issue, or any helpful hints?Apologies if the topic has already been covered - couldn't find posts that seemed to fit when I browsed the history.

Hey.
Ive a Dell Inspiron 5459 and I?ve been facing this problem of erratic cursor since the past week. My OS is windows 10 64 bit.  It started right after I had updated the bios and installed some security updates for windows. The cursor started lagging and malfunctioned so I just started with an external mouse.
However, today when I was just checking the updates and all, I happened to enter the bios and was kinda flabbergasted by the fact that the touchpad was fully functional and smooth inside the bios. This meant one thing: it wasn?t an internal problem, but prolly a driver issue.
I uninstalled the devices under mouse in the device manager and installed new Synaptics driver but that didn?t help. I uninstalled the updates that were recently installed and even downgraded the bios but all in vain. After all this, hoping against hope I decided to format and install a fresh copy of windows. That didn?t help either. Even with a fresh copy of windows, the cursor kept jumping from one point on the screen to another rendering the touchpad useless. It?s been almost an year to this laptop and I?ve never faced this issue before. Any sugggestions and solutions other than ?install latest drivers, uninstall old drivers? would be appreciated as I?ve already tried everything and searched a lot on the forums but haven?t found any significant solution.
Help.. please!

it's impossible to use the touchoad since cursor disappear after short time, sometimes "stuck" in right upper corner, flashing like it's gone crazy or out of sync and then you cant open new apps since its closing automatically - weird weird behavior of the cursor touchpad!!!!!. Does not recall such issues on win 8,1 (before upgrade to 10). I tried tons of changing config touchpad settings - nothing really helps. It seems there is some big issue here that needs to be resolved by HP. I really tried all settings / old drivers and all that stuff...nothing helps.

Good day community I bought online (from Lenovo's website) a Y500 series laptop last week, but it happens that 2 days ago the cursor started to erratically move as I try to use the touchpad (I have been careful and I don't just my fingers). I'm kinda disappointed as this was going to be a Christmas present, but still won't give up hope and I'll assume that this is a software problem and not a suddenly faulty hardware. It seems that there's always "something" pressing on the device (Im looking at the Elan pointing device hidden icon), which gives me an erratic behavior and sometimes highlights stuff by its own. Is there any known solutions for this? I've checked windows updates and I don't see any drivers updates AFAIK. Thanks for the support! Hope this is a known situation

Hi Lenovo Community, I recently recieved my brand new Lenovo Y50-70 UHD laptop and right off the bat I noticed the touchpad was acting strangely. The pointer motion is not smooth, get's stuck sometimes and keeps fidgeting when trying to click on something. Other than this, the touchpad is exhibiting auto-clicking behaviour. The Synaptics application comes with a graph monitor which shows small spikes meaning the touchpad is experiencing light touch even if noone is touching it. Disabling the touchpad get's ride of these problems all together and the mouse operation works fine with an external mouse. I have tried updating the Synaptics touchpad driver, played around with the sensitivity settings and have scoured the internet for anyone having similar issues but came up empty. The laptop is in it's first week of use and I'm already feeling that I've blown away $1300 for a device that's defective. Please suggest a fix for this issue. I really love my machine and I would hate to return it. Thanks, Umair

I bought a 13" Dell XPS & 10 days later I was calling support about the touchpad. It is erratic, jumps around in Word, zooms all the time, when the cursor is nowhere near the zoom icon.   Its a nightmare because I spend all my time going to the zoom icon to adjust it back to the default.
I have called support 3x and the last time the tech actually loaded 3rd party software onto my laptop. This did not inspire confidence.  I have tried attaching a mouse but it still behaves erratically. So if anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them.

Hi

I have had a Tosh C50-B-11L for just 2 weeks (to replace an old Tosh sat L300 that was very reliable).
I feel like throwing it away due to the response of the touchpad. It will freeze, or none responsive, erratic, will ignore taps, etc.Resulting in deletions on sites when the cursor was not where it appeared to
be. And is extremely frustrating, as simply I am unable to use the laptop to its potential.

I have got the latest Elan driver. I see that this seems to be an issue, that does not seem to be addressed properly by Toshiba.

Any suggestions? Could I remove the Elan drivers, and still have a working touchpad?
Or will I have to forget it and buy a hardware mouse (which rather defeats the point)

Thanks for any suggestions (I've done the F5/F9 stuff to no avail)

Answer:Satellite C50-B-11L - Erratic Touchpad

Looks like there's been no-one else here for a while. My question will probably go unanswered as well.

Personally, I think the touch pad you got was made at 3:30 on a friday afternoon, recently sorted someone's computer with exactly the same sort of problems. Turned out there was nothing at all wrong with his computer, it was the wireless mouse getting funky.

But there's something else that's worth looking at too, it's part of a Desktop Help tutorial I wrote and it might be relevant to your problems as well. Remember, when you're going through this process to dump all the Toshiba proprietry rubbish as well and let Windows itself handle all of these functions, you'll quickly discover that Windows isn't all that slow after all.

Mods - please feel free to use any or all of the following text as a sticky thread, it really will help a lot of people.

Shamefully, this forum doesn't allow file attachments and has a character limit on post size. OK. Just means I have to spread the text over 2 posts. Starting to remind me of my troubles with getting a new BIOS.

This is the most common problem with Windows, programs running in the background. i downloaded "touchfreeze" to see if it would take care of the erratic actions of cursor and tap on my g580.  It does help some.  I have only had to start retyping this post one time.  YAAAA!Seriously, this is an awful problem to have on a computer.  Not being able to type without stuff getting swiped, moved and pages opened.  It is by no means fixed, but it is better.Evidently it is the tap function that causes the problem.  the cursor can move around while you type; but it can't select while doing so (obviously). If anyone has found better solution let me know.i don't use the touchpad.  But i have tried to disable it with no luck,  remove the driver no luck. etc., etcl,.Now it has swiped three or four different times just to do this post.

Answer:still trying to fix erratic touchpad problems

This time i removed the elan driver and reinstalled from lenovo site and now it is working better.  The elan tab under mouse settings now has a different tap (ultranav)???   Don't know what is up with that but it is better right now.  As a matter of fact it hasn't messed up my typing on time while doing this!!!!!OOOps, no, it still has issues, but getting better.  I still can't belive there isn't more reported issues with this. Now it doesn't give me the option to "disable toucpad when usb mouse enabled".  Even though i would have to go in and make that setting every time i turned on the computer, it would at least disable it.  I don't know, but i sure am not ashamed to keep posting about the issue being it is so critical to the functioning of the computer.

After over a month with this laptop and doing what I assume everyone else has been doing to try to deal with the touchpad by lowering the sensitivity, I've finally discovered that the fix for the touchpad is to move the sensitivity all the way to the left. Sounds backwards to increase the sensitivity when it's jumpier than a cat using a jackhammer, but apparently the touchpad is not sensitive enough and loses track which causes it to jump. It's way better at the highest sensitivity (left side). In fact it only works at the highest sensitivity.Oh by the way I'm talking about the "touch sensitivity" slider in the touchpad driver. Not your windows mouse sensitivity in the regular control panel.

Hello all,
I got a Dell Inspiron e1505 -Core Duo 2.0GHZ, 2gb Ram running windows 7 ultimate 32 bit. My question is last week my pointer moves erratically not smoothly, so I thought it could be my touchpad driver. I updated my driver and still no fix. I ran a scan on AVG, used ccleaner to clean out registry and still no fix. My last option was to do a fresh reinstall. Still no fix. I have a portable mouse that i use for usb and it works fine but I hate carrying that thing around really not convenient at all. Does anyone know what the problem can be? Should I get a new palm rest and replace it? Please advise.

Thanks!

I switched over to Windows 10 and ever since my touchpad has been a mess. I've tried changing settings. The latest Synaptic driver shows a 19. series but I've seen recomendations to go to back to 17..Come on Synaptics or whomever is to blame.  You've had plenty of time. Get it fixed. Please. My scrolling just on a whim goes crazy from time to time. It stops taking directions from my fingers and coasts up and down when it wishes. Could this be a hardware problem? Is the touchpad replaceable on this model?

Hi Acer community I had this laptop since May and was very satisfied with it however the one thing that bugged me since day 0 was that touchpad and the bloatware. [Software fix for erratic touchpad]The touchpad being erratic and inaccurate, at times when i try to move my cursor over a small distance it would not detect and then jump past the point i want it to hit, it was driving me insane. I tried the firmware update that acer provided, installed the newer drivers from synaptics and also the ELAN I2C filter driver, it didnt do anything! Forums all over the internet esp from the dell forums regarding the XPS15 suggested disabling the "enhance pointer precision" in the pointer options tab under mouse settings from the control panel, this bandaid solution did indeed improve but more importantly it told me that it was a software issue from crappy windows 10 precision touchpad drivers.  I came across this reddit thread where they disabled the PTP drivers and installed the legacy synaptic drivers over PS/2:https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/3nbjbp/yes_a_solutionactual_working_fix_xps_laptops/  While their method could not be replicated on our acer laptops exactly by disabling the I2C bus in the device manager, Acer has provided a nice bios option that can disable the I2C bus via the bios: 1) Follow the instructions in this link to change the touchpad settings to "Basic" in the BIOS:http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_... Hi,
I hope someone can help me. The problem I'm having is with my touchpad on a Dell Inspiron 1545.

When i first turn on the laptop the touch pad works fine for about 4-5 mins max.
Then it will start behaving very erratic , as follows
1.Pointer will slow down when trying to move it.

2. Pointer will sometimes not respond at all.

3.Pointer will start jumping around after placed somewhere e.g When finally got pointer into position to click on an item it move off on its own.

4. Pointer starts shaking.

If i plug a mouse into the usb port everything works fine using the mouse but remains the same on the touchpad

I'm running Vista home premium 32-bit with SP2.

What i have tried to fix this.
From Device manager found that touchpad driver is Alps Electric version 7.1007.115.102 installed 02/05/2010.

From device manager >update driver. It looks for updates and says latest software is installed.

From Dells website find drivers and downloads section, enter service tag number. The driver they recommend is the same version as i already have installed.
Downloaded anyway and installed .Result the same.

Ran a full scan using McAFEE, ran a full scan using Malwayre bytes, ran a full scan using Spybot Search and Destroy. Result still the same.

Used M/S Solution centre .Result still the same.

Ran a driver scan by Iolo recommended by Dell. Result all drivers up to date.

This occasionally happens to me with my Logitech wireless mouse. The only solution I've found is to reboot. It then returns to normal. I have no idea what causes it. Note that I nearly always put my system to sleep rather than shutting down. It could be the problem would occur more frequently if I shut down each time.

For some reason my touchpad is very jumpy when I'm moving the cursor then using the "invisible" left click button.  At first i thought I was just fat fingering where I'm clicking but I paused and carefully clicked on the left button and the mouse cursor either jumps a few inches or almost to the bottom of the screen.  I'm using the newest drivers and even tried messing around in the Ultranav settings.  Is there a way to stop the touchpad from picking up movement at the left click/right click areas?

You might want to try playing around with Starting Zone in TouchPad Properties. You get there by going to  Mouse Properties and then under the UltraNav tab you'll want to click on the settings button for the TouchPad. "Starting Zone" is nested under "Smart Check Settings".

If that doesn't help, you might also want to try adjusting the PalmCheck settings.

Hi everyone Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to share what I have discovered which may help others with similar touchpad issues. I have been having similar problems as several others on this forum with the mouse freezing, being unresponsive and having crazy moments where the mouse starts moving uncontrollably on screen even with no physical contact with the machine. After doing every possible software change, driver update, OS reinstall and registry changes, I concluded that this was indeed a hardware problem. After sending my machine back and getting the touchpad replaced, the issue was still present. My first fix (Which resolved the issue before the touchpad firmware update) was to purchase a protective skin which was basically a screen protector, but for laptop touchpads. My therory was that the touchpad suface was simply too sentivtive for direct touch. This solved my issue completely for the majority of the year. Now I think I might have discovered the actual cause of the problem. Coincidently I have removed the protector from the touchpad as it was beginning to peel off in the corner and low and behold the  touchpad issues returned immediatly. Yesterday however, the battery died and has requried me to remove it from the laptop and run on mains power until the repalcement arrives. Since running the machine with no battery, I have had absolutley no issues with the touchpad.  (Disclamer: Opening your machine to access the battery ma... Hi,  I am facing the problem of touchpad erractic behaviour the cursor keeps jumping around. The problem happened after I cleaned the touchpad with wet tissue. First I thought it was the moisture that maybe causing this issue however it has been 4 days now the problem continues. Over the threads I have seen that re-installing Synaptic Touchpad driver has resolved this issue for some people but it did not work for me. Any other suggestions?  How can i deassemble the touchpad only of the top cover in order to clean it? If there is any dirt that made into the frame of the touchpad. Thanks

Answer:Synaptic Touchpad erratic behaviour

Hello and welcome! Sorry for the wait.  Did you change out your battery lately with another one or have the original charger to your laptop? Those things can cause issues with the touchpad. I wouldn't recommend taking out the touchpad yourself, it is not very easy to do and plus you will have to take out a million screws to do it. I would take it a local repair shop or try out a USB mouse.

It clicks on icons u don't wanna open, launch program unexpectedly, if u wanna click on something it jumps and dances here and there. Its really infuriating particularly if u need to get things done urgently. I uninstalled the ALPS Touchpad and seemed to work for about 2 days and trouble started again. It has even become worse after the PC automatically downloaded and installed the ALPS Touchpad again. Please I need your help thank you.

Hi, just got my Legion Y520-15IKBN Laptop and found this nasty jumping cursor issue. When the laptop is connected to the charger, once you put the finger on the touchpad the cursors starts jumping around. If you move the finger, the cursors kinda follows it, but with lags and still jumps around in different directions.   Disconnecting the charger seems to fix the issue, also if you pick the connected laptop from the table and put it on the hand it also fixes the problem some how.... I've installed the windows 10, all drivers from lenovo site including power management software, tried some tricks from this forum like disconnecting the charger, holding the power button for over 10 sec, and power it up again, nothing helps. Can anybody share some ideas on this? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Y520 touchPad jumping cursor

Can you please try plugging in the charger to a different wall socket. Is the wall socket grounded? (hopefully not a fake ground)

After you shutdown and disconnect charger, You need to hold the power button for about 45 seconds for the static to flush out. Try it again please.

Hi
I have a new HP laptop (dv6-1375dx) with pre-installed W 7 whose touchpad is listed as a "Synaptics Touchpad V6.5 on PS/2 Port".

The cursor has a mind of its own and frequently jumps all over the screen when I type without (I think) my touching anything. Is there a way to reduce this annoying jumping of the cursor? I've looked at the Synaptics device properties but am not sure what I need to change.

Thanks.

Answer:touchpad too sensitive, cursor jumping

Hi Anderson2,

First, glance through this and make sure you haven't overlooked any touchpad settings.

Next, could you please verify your laptop's model number? According to the HP site, there is no Pavilion model dv6-1375dx. There are dv6-1352dx, and dv6-1375es and dv6-1375et. Could your machine be one of these instead?

Cheers,

I need to know how to fix the problem. It is not constant, but tonight, horrible.

I move the cursor, raise my finger from the keypad and the cursor jumps around.

How can I fix this? Do I need to re-boot the computer or is there a control button to press or something to change?

I am ready to throw this laptop in the trash!!

Hello, I received my new IdeaPadY460 about three weeks ago. Right out of the box I noticed that the touchpad was acting strange. For instance; cursor freezing, zooming documents and web pages in and out when just trying to move cursor to a different location, cursor changing to the 'move' icon for no reason, cursor stuttering when trying to move it across the screen. scrolling activated even though fingers are not in the scrolling area of the touchpad .... just to name a few.

To the aforementioned, I figured that I just needed to adjust the 'Touch Sensitivity' and 'PalmCheck' settings. I went through every conceivable combination on all the touchpad features to no avail. Only thing that made the touchpad a little better was to remove the Synaptics driver and use the touchpad as a dumb mouse. Even then the cursor would 'fly' across the screen and would 'disappear'.

I then tried switching out the (Synaptics) driver to different versions (upgrades and downgrades). This did not alleviate or rectify the problem. CAVEAT: using any other (Synaptics) driver than the one on Lenovo's website (version 14.0.18.0 as of this writing) will cause loss of the Navbar's Energy Management, OneKey Theater, and volume and mute button functionality. This driver provides special functionality for these buttons.

I have searched the internet for this problem on a Y460 but did not find any. It did become apparent that Lenovo has inherent issues with touchpads on other devises. Most ... Read more

My cursor seems to freeze when the notebook is on for a while (heat?) and then suddenly works again after days and days of being frozen. Have reinstalled drivers (worked for 24 hours), sent to Toshiba last week who reinstalled everything and it worked again for only 24 hours, has been stuck for days and now suddenly worked after the whole screen froze and it would not respond to the keyboard either so I had to turn off at on/off button but I have done this before and it didnt work before - NO RHYME OR REASON. This is a very new machine. WHAT CAN I DO? It's driving me mental.

Answer:Equium M40 - Usually Frozen Cursor - Touchpad very erratic

Hi richie

It?s not easy to say what exactly the problem is. Maybe your unit goes to hot?
It is also very important that notebook should be clear of any objects that can cover the air vents. There should be place around the unit so it cans "breath". Sometimes can help BIOS update. You can change also the processor performance and cooling method of the unit in the Toshiba power saver utility.
Maybe it helps.

Answer:Acer Aspire e5-471 touchpad responds erratic

alfspace98,

When did this issue start happening, after some recent Windows Updates were installed? If so, you can perform a system restore to before they were installed when the touchpad was working correctly and go forward from there. Sometimes Windows Updates can have a bad installation and cause problems, this is the easiest fix for it.

Hi, I have an Aspire e1-530 laptop which I upgraded to windows 8.1. After updation the touchpad is malfunctioning for 10-15 minutes after startup. Right after the system boots up areas of touchpad become unresponsive, sometimes centre of touchpad act as scrollpad, sometimes icons zoom in and out while moving finger in touchpad and after 10-15 minutes everything start working properly.I tried installing the latest Synaptics driver (17.0.6.13) from acer support webite. the problem remained. then I tried ELANTECH touchpad driver(11.6.27.201) but the gesture supports like two finger scrolling is not enabled in ELANTECH driver.when i uninstasll the synaptics driver touchpad seems to wok fine with the old default driver (6 . something). But i need the gesture to work in my laptop. My touchpad started moving erratically sometimes. I read an article on the internet, although not related to Lenovo's products, where it is suggested to try to check if this malfunction happens when it is connected a usb stick to the laptop and I have noticed that this is the case: working, as I do usually, with the usb stick makes the touchpad not working smoothly. I have checked for viruses and shouldn't be any both in the usb stick and in the laptop. What do you suggest me to do?

Pretty much in the title. Randomly, I'll move my finger across the touchpad but it doesn't register. Then I have to kind of move my finger *very* lightly and it will register and move again. Laptop isn't six months old yet so this is hella-annoying (yes I know it's under warranty, but I don't want to ship it away for two weeks if possible!)
I've read that uninstalling then reinstalling both the touchpad driver and the touchpad program itself, but I'm not technically gifted so I'd rather not chance making things worse.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is not a rant about the touchpad design - I'm actually not too bothered by it. I'm having major issues using the touchpad even with the latest W540 drivers on Win 8.1. I have v18.0.7.57 which is the latest available as per Lenovo's downloads site. The cursor movement locks up for several seconds, then starts highlighting text I haven't selected, scrolls when I'm not using 2 fingers etc. Overall, it's very annoying. I have disable 'tap to click' and this helps a bit, but I still have the locking issues. Also, 'Synaptics touchpad 64 bit enhancements' is one of the top CPU consumers on the system, especially during the lockups - I can't imagine why an app that handles input should be consuming so much CPU! I have uninstalled, reinstalled (rinse, repeat) several times and haven't found any improvement.

Uninstall the current driver and check with Microsoft generic driver.

Hope this helps.

Enabled reverse scrolling for the touchpad in the Synaptics setting, but it only works on some apps. Seems mainly to work on 3rd party applications (ex. Chrome), whereas most system windows and similar still scroll unreversed. Highly annoying when your scroll constantly goes different directions Can't find any other setting to adjust this. Seems like the Synaptics driver took over the more detailed settings you usually see in Windows 10. But didn't fully take over.

When I use a mouse, I want to use it with my left hand, which means I want the mouse buttons reversed--right button is primary, left button is "right-click."  I can set that up just fine.  But when I don't have the mouse with me and I'm using the trackpad and its click zones, I want that to behave normally, with a left click being the primary. I feel like I had this set up pretty well with my last laptop, which was a Dell with Windows 7.  Now I have an X1 Carbon (3rd gen) with Windows 8.1, and I can't seem to make it work.  I've tried installing the software for the Microsoft wireless mouse that I use.  But I haven't found a combination of settings in Windows + the MS Mouse utility that give me what I want, so I end up having to just go into the setting and swap the buttons every time I plug/unplug my mouse. Am I just weird (other than being left-handed)?  I guess I can just use the mouse right-handed, but I like to swap so I'm not wearing out my wrist on one side.  Anybody else have this setup working for them?  Thanks.

Answer:How to reverse mouse buttons for a mouse but not for the trackpad

So to anyone who may have been curious about this, I think it just took some time to adapt to the new hardware, because I don't really have a problem anymore. I have my mouse set up for left-handed use at work. The trackpad is still right-handed, but because it doesn't actually require clicks like my old one did, I've gotten used to just single-finger tapping for left button clicks and two-finger tapping for right-button clicks. I just hadn't used a "magic" pad with all the fancy functionality before, and now I've got it doing what I want without having to change any settings.

I have a Z710 and am currently experiencing two problems:1. The touchpad is apparently peeling.2. The touchpad causes the mouse cursor to jump all over the screen on a vertical axis. In addition to jumping along the axis, it is also clicking randomly. The only way to make the laptop usable is to plug in another mouse and try to disable the touchpad through the control panel everytime after boot or re-login. The touchpad was working fine despite the peeling until sometime in the past week. I have confirmed that it is not just a driver issue. I am running Windows 8.1 64-bit. I have tested the touchpad using a linux live disc as well, and it has the same problem, making it appear to be a hardware issue. I appreciate any help or advice anyone might have to deal with the situation.

I have this issue for quite some time but this week it got so frequent it's driving me nuts and it forces me to make a topic about it here on forum. The problem is that sometimes, when I use touchpad, the touchpad goes into "crazy mode" and every time i touch the touchpad, the cursor jumps like 10 cm on the screen in 45° angle with top-right direction. After 2 - 3 touches the cursor ends up in the top right corner.Interesting thing to note is that when I put one finger on the touchpad, the cursor teleport but when I put another finger on it, another jump will not occur. As a result, I can control cursor with touchpad in a way I would describe as "Moonwalk dance with fingers". I've tried those things so far:- disabling and enabling touchpad in control panel - It used to fix this issue temporarily few months ago; now it fixes issue only for like 5 seconds and then issue appears again. - puttin notebook into sleeping mode and waking up afterwards - This also used to work but now it is as useless as the option above (5 seconds fix). - updating touchpad drivers - They are up-to-date. - restarting notebook - This is the only working temporary fix. Unfortunately, it is also the most time-consuming fix. Any ideas what should I do? (exept for buying a mouse)

Answer:E530 touchpad problem - jumping cursor

Hi, 738Dave

The first thing I would recommend trying is to remove the UltraNav driver from the system. To do this, open the Start menu and type Device Managerinto the Search box, and then press Enter. Once here, double click on Mouse and other pointing devices, and then right-click on the UltraNav device. Naviage to the Driver tab and select Uninstall... from the bottom of the window. Follow the prompts to uninstall and then restart when prompted by Windows. Windows should install a generic driver. Does the touchpad have the same issue after the uninstallation of this driver?

Adam

anilbehl, SWAG, there was a trojan around that did that. Maybe you have it? Be aware that a virus and a Trojan are similar, but not the same. Many times, an AV detects one it can't clean, other times, it gets missed entirely. If you need to clean one, Superantispyware (info only. I?m not paid for recommendation) can do the job and you can get it free @:http://www.superantispyware.com/among other places. They have a Vista compatible version if needed. Dunno about Windows 7 or later. If it turns out that you need to use it, be sure to update Superantispyware prior to running and disable 'restore' (restart after cleaning) so the nasty doesn't get put back. They just released a new update recently and it changes all the time. Things are in a constant state of flux. The restore thing is critical. forgot to note this in my HP installation survey but wow, worse than my earlier Stream 11, there is a distracting time-consuming unexplainable shifting about zooming requiring intervention repeatedly plus jumping the cursor around. Sometimes I think it might be especially when I am using google.docs to write, but it seems in general to be a helluva a downside, although otherwise I love so much about Stream 11 that I replaced my first after its keyboard went crazy post-warranty (in 18 months). So I hope somebody from HP notices this and cranks it in. Could it be a Windows 10 issue? It's abundant features and prompts also are a distraction for my scholarly work, alas.

This is a random problem but getting worse. When typing, the cursor will jump to another spot in my message... or it may jump to another window... or it may simply downsize my message window and even on one occasion, it opened a "new message" window in my Mozilla Thunderbird email client. For months now, I have been trying to nail this down. It is not me brushing over the mouse pad, it's simply a total random thing and getting worse. I have had malware and anti virus software at work since new. I am obsessive with protection and prevention. Nobody else works on this laptop. Hi 1) I just bought the Y580 online. The trackpad is terrible. - How do I make the right-side and bottom touch scrolling to work ? just like a normal laptop ?? - I changed the sensitivity settings and inspite of that the motion of the cursor is not uniform. When the right side of my finger is contact with it, the cursor stops moving a little and it is okay with the center of my finger.Do any of you experience this? If not, I need to get this looked into. I don't think the problem is with the software, it's just the material with which the trackpad is made, does not have a right coefficient of friction. - The two finger scrolling does not start. When I do the two finger scroll, the cursor change is seen almost 10 seconds later and even after that, it is almost impossible to scroll through my pages. Is that the case for everyone?  - The left/right click on the trackpad is noisy 2) Made the mistake a buying a lower resolution screen. How do I return this thing? When I talked to sales they are asking for a 15% "restocking" fee. That is terrible as well. I never should have gone with Lenovo.

Answer:Y580 Trackpad (or Touchpad) Help

- Not sure if there is a right side and bottom touch scrolling, will test it tonight- not uniform? Means if you place your finger on the right side of the touchpad then move to the center compared to the center move to the left, the distance is different?- 2 finger scrolling not tested, will check it tonight- I am not sure how to help you with the touchpad being noisy when clicking. Do note that this is a 1 piece touchpad compared to the conventional touchpad with 2 buttons below which is different. Use double tap on touchpad to do a left click but right click is unavoidable. - low res screen... can check with sales if you can top-up for upgrade?hope this helps.

At first, I did not like the buttons, but the where usable, but with time, they got worse. It is very hard to explain this for me in English, but, thats why I made a little movie which is linked below. Anyone suggestions what to do about it?Of course I've used google, and found many many topics about the trackpad, but that were mostly driver problems. http://youtu.be/a4XyxWopbt8 The click is so loud, it seems to get stuck somewhere and I have to push very hard. Almost like there's something stuck, like sand between it. But it's perfectly clean.Any advise (besides; do not use it) is welcome. And apologies for my English

Answer:X220t trackpad/touchpad

Hi, timpel_800

From the looks, sounds, and general functionality of the TrackPad, I would guess that there is a hardware issue of sorts. In the video, you say that the click function works, but only if you do it twice, correct? And the noise was far louder than a TrackPad is supposed to be, I think. With all this in mind, I would contact support and see if you can get this repaired. The number for support in the Netherlands is +31 (0)20 513 3939 and is open Monday through Friday 9am-5pm.

Best of luck,

I dunno if it's a touchpad or a trackpad I have but there was a program along with it called like Apoint or something that would run and allowed me to change the settings on the touchpad. I have looked and can find no other way of accessing the touchpad settings. Well the last time I remember it working was before I updated Windows Vista, well now the program no longer runs I had it set to disable the touchpad when an external mouse was detected and it no longer does that. I went into its folder located at C:\Program Files\DellTpad\Apoint.exe and double clicked it and nothing happened. It use to run at startup but no longer does and I checked and it is still set to run at startup but does not, any clues as to what is going on? I believe I am using Windows Vista Home Premium.
I managed to fix it by going to Device Manager in the control panel uninstalling Dell Touchpad and rebooting.

Hello everyone,  I am having to send my Lenovo ThinkPad P50 to the service depot to have the touchpad and perhaps more replaced due to the trackpad not performing properly. The right click works intermittently both on the bottom and top right click button. The scroll feature at times stops working and the left click usually starts performing right click operations randomly. I knew it wasn't the driver after uninstalling and reinstalling it a few times including the keyboard driver. Has anyone here ever had to have their touchpad replaced?

Answer:Replacing Touchpad/Trackpad

Hi RegEdit1 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

As the touchpad and buttons may have erratic behavior but not when using a USB mouse, then best that you have your warranty coverage work for you as the entire upper case that includes the touchpad mechanism to be checked.

Reviewing the hardware disassembly guide would take several screws needed to be worked at for the repair.
Sending it over could be a good option in terms of hardware issue for full functionality check.

Answer:Trackpad and touchpad not working

Hi Beemer,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that trackpad and touchpad is not working properly in your Lenovo ThinkPad X201.

Since the devices work fine in safe mode, probably a corrupted driver is causing the issue. Go to control panel -> Device manager, uninstall the drivers listed under Mice and other pointing devices. Restart the system and let Windows install the generic drivers for the device. Check if the trackpad and touchpad works fine now. Later, you may download the drivers from Lenovo Support page and install them. If you have any difficulties in finding the driver, please share the MTM number of your device.

Click here to understand how to transfer files and settings from one user account to another with administrator rights.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,

It is unclear exactly when the problem began, but there was a windows 10 update, then a bios update shortly before I noticed the problem.   The touchpad behaves erratically, selecting/unselecting or inserting text at a rate that does not allow control of intended tapping actions.  Pointer features seem to work fine, erratic behavior involves tapping only.  I believe the bios is the most current version, and I have updated the touchpad driver.  It is not clear to me whether there is an issue with the bios or touchpad driver installation or software, or if the touchpad has failed.  Looking for help to figure out how to resolve the issue.
