Preferred Solution: Lenovo ThinkPad X270 fingerprint on Linux

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, We have a problem with 2 laptops (ThinkPad X270) that "freeze" on the LENOVO logo when using Lenovo Ultra Dock with monitor Dell UZ2715H.Display Dell is plugged by Display port ports and one USB 3.0 (9 pin - used for display integrated webcam) connected to ThinkPad dock. When notebook turned ON with connected USB 3.0, computer freeze on LENOVO logo (To interrupt normal startup, press Enter) and work only when USB 3.0 disconected, or turned OFF and again Turned ON. Firmware on Dock is 2.33.000 Any suggestion?

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad Ultra (Pro) Dock + ThinkPad X270 (20K6) + Dell UZ2715H

I am just going to guess that computer is trying to boot via USB, so you might try changing the boot order in the BIOS so that Windows Boot Manager or the HD is first.

First decent review of the X270. All looking good.Lenovo ThinkPad X270 Review by MobileTechReviewhttps://youtu.be/PxGL1vIX_dw"Lisa Gade reviews the Lenovo ThinkPad X270, the refresh of Lenovo?s smallest traditional business laptop. The X270 replaces the X260 in Lenovo?s 12.5? Ultrabook lineup, and it?s been refreshed with Intel 7th generation Kaby Lake dual core, 15 watt CPUs and Intel HD 620 graphics. It gains a USB-C port and for a portable this small, it packs a lot of ports including Ethernet, HDMI and a dock connector. The 2.9 lb. /1.3kg notebook has Lenovo?s usual excellent backlit keyboard, an MS Precision trackpad, optional LTE 4G and a fingerprint scanner. The Bridge battery system is back with an internal 23 WHr battery and your choice of 3 removable batteries, the largest of which is 72 WHr and allows for extremely long runtimes. The machine is available with a 1366 x 768 TN panel or a 1920 x 1080 IPS display (both are matte and non-touch). Pricing starts around $800, depending on current Lenovo specials."

The fingerprint scan function stopped working yesterday for my computer. I googled for a solution and I found one I tried to follow it. One of the steps was to update the bios and I did and it worked for one hour or so and then stopped working again. I couldn't do the other steps at all since I don't have anything software called Lenovo fingerprint manager pro on my computer and I can't find it anywhere online for Windows 10 either. Does anyone else has the same problem as me?

The fingerprint sensor doesn't work. I tried installing the drivers for it, but then, I try to enroll my fingerprint, and, well, let the pictures do the talking. The sensor doesn't even show up in Device Manager. Any help would be nice.Error

I've been having trouble with the fingerprint sensor on my Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga laptop (type 20FR) for the last week. It is now completely unresponsive after working just fine for months. In device manager it says "This device cannot start (Code 10)." I've tried disabling/enabling the device form device manager, uninstalling/re-installing the drivers, and wiping stored fingerprints from the BIOS settings. After wiping the fingerprints from BIOS settings and re-programming the fingerprint sensor from the Windows Hello settings menu, it worked for a day, but then the issue with the finger print sensor crashing returned. What do I do?

Hello, I am trying to enable the fingerprint reader on my Thinkpad W350. I have look at a lot of topics on here but none seem to help (this was closest to my issue http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Edge-S-series/Fingerprint-sensor-is-not-detected/m-p/1342587#M2... I have downloaded ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software (Windows 7 64 bit) and get the following errors: - E7210005 - Cannot enroll user.- E7210005 - Cannot update passport.- E7210005 - Cannot find fingerprint sensor device. This should install drivers as the ReadMe file says "Device drivers for fingerprint reader are being installed when installing ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software." - When I check Device Manager it shows no 'Biometric Devices' section. When I go to the Biometric Devices screen via Control Panel, it says "Windows did not find any biometric devices on this computer". I have downloaded Lenovo Solution Centre which detected no issues with hardware (one warning with Device Manager which says 'Mobility Client Virtual Adapter' is disabled, but I think that is unrelated. I have downloaded Lenovo System Update which does not altert me of any fingerprint drivers (I performed all windows and bios updates). I even tried to install the 4.5.122.0 driver ( http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/ls4c71a2.exe) but did not work... Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad W530 - Fingerprint Reader not working

Reboot and press F1 to enter BIOS Setup.
Use the arrow keys to change to the SEcurity menu, and select the item about fingerprint.  Then choose the item to clear the fingerprint sensor.  What is the result?

I have just bought a new Lenovo Thinkpad T410 2518-FAA from one of main agencies of Lenovo in my country. The new-buy laptop was said to be totally new, i.e. it was not a re-furbished, and I actually checked for manything to confirm the real status of this laptop. However, when I bought it back to my house, a serious problem appeared. At the laptop store, I did not have enough time to check the Fingerprint device, thus I skipped to check it. When I came back home, the Fingerprint sensor error of this new-buy laptop completely drived me crazy!!! I installed the Fingerprint software of Lenovo, but this software continuously reported errors: "Can not enroll users, can not update passport, and can not find fingerprint sensor device." I have tried uninstalled and reinstalled this software many times, and already checked for the latest version of this software, it was Thinkvantage Fingerprint sofware 5.9.3 for Win 7-32 bit. My operation system is Win 7-32 bit. But these errors still appeared again and again. I already checked the status of TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor in Biometric Devices, uninstalled then re-installled this device, and it showed that this device was working properly and up-to-date, and I already unchecked the option "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power", but all of my efforts was in vain!!! These errors still appeared and it drives me crazy! Up to now I had been unable to enroll my fingerprint to set up the fingerprint reader! These 3 err... Read more

It seems that Lenovo has released today first infos of upcoming models including X270: http://www.anandtech.com/show/10940/lenovo-updates-the-thinkpad-lineup-new-models-welcome-changes I have been postponing laptop purchase because I want one with QHD or better resolution, thunderbolt3 and ability to charge with standard USB type-C charger. Now it seems that for some reason that I cannot understand Lenovo has still decided not to include QHD or QHD+ resolutions to quite many of the upcoming models, including X270, Yoga 370, Thinkpad 13 and T470. It is now already 4.5 years ago from the moment when Apple Released Macbook Pro retina with QHD equivalent resolution. In addition some of the articles claim that the new USB type-C port in X270 will NOT have thunderbolt3 availability. And it is like 5.5 years since Apple included thunderbolt. I really think we should start noise from this. If there will not be a serious portable workstation like X270 with QHD or better resolution and enough USB-slots (at least 3+1) and thunderbolt support I am seriously considering to switch away from Lenovo (e.g. Dell XPS 13). I know that some people prefer FullHD (e.g. for longer battery life) so there could be an option for both. I want QHD because 1. If you want to have two web browsers side by side without horizontal scroll bars you will need minimun QHD, 2. Because you can actually start to see details in pdf books without zooming 3. Because you can have large amou... Read more

HiI am trying to build an x270 from a bootable ISO. I click Custom install but get no drives found at the "where do you want to install windows" stage. The full message is "load driver to provide a mass storage driver for installation" I guess this is due to the SSD driver missing but not sure how to find the correct driver, whether or not I need to inject it into the ISO, or even how to do it. Anyone done this before please!!! Thanks

Answer:Thinkpad x270 HD SSD not detected during rebuild

What operating system are you trying to install?  What is the source of the ISO?  What is the MT-M of the laptop?

Just purhcased the Thinkpad X270 and really loves it! However I can't find the shortcut key to turn off LCD display. Some previous Thinkpad user suggestion like FN+F3 , FN+F7 didn't work in this laptop. I know there are some 3rd party EXE tools could turn the screen off however I don't want to rely on them because of security. Anyone know the magic key combo for X270? Thanks!

I recently purchased a ThinkPad X270 with the 1920x1080 IPS non-touch display.  After only a very short time using it, I noticed that the display starting jumping and flickering very badly at random times.  The BIOS and all of the drivers were updated to what the Lenovo Companion tool recommended.  I captured some video of the behavior here: https://1drv.ms/v/s!AjP8R5t89zq2oXvMKmnuV_6l0fic I was hoping that this was just a bad individual unit.  I contacted support and explained the problem, and they set me up with a replacement.  Well, the replacement arrived yesterday and it's doing the exact same thing.  Videos of the new one exhibiting the problem are here: https://1drv.ms/f/s!AjP8R5t89zq2oXzhuWwFO34fh-s7 I've started the refund process for the new one because at this point, I suspect it is either a driver problem, a design problem, or a supply chain problem with the LCD panel.  I'm not sure what model I will ultimately upgrade to from my beloved x230 but unfortunately, I'm sure it's not the x270.

Hi, first time posting and I'd like to report a serious issue rendering the new X270 critically unstable. There's an issue with the SSD after it enters low power D3 state. After it happens, the drive (or controller) refuses to wake up. Entering D3 seems to be due to relative inactivity. Also, upgrading BIOS to 1.09 doesn't help. I can get this couple of times a day so it makes the X270 unreliable for work. This is triggering regardless of having power adapter plugged in or unplugged and it seems only related to the drive going to sleep. One time I got BSOD on Windows was when I was copying files between two external HDDs (so the internal drive wasn't busy). On Windows this results with BSOD saying it can't save core dump because of memory or drive error. Linux is little more informative about what happens and the system doesn't die straight away because it caches quite a lot of the data read from the drive (that excessive caching is also why the drive is likely to go to sleep more often). For last couple of days I was running with dmesg -wH in the background. The drive always fails the same way: [Mar21 01:31] nvme 0000:04:00.0: controller is down; will reset: CSTS=0xffffffff, PCI_STATUS=0xffff

I just added a second finger print reader through the docking station for when I have the computer docked, but I am unable to enroll my fingerprints using it.  I am only able to get it to work through the laptop's built-in fingerprint reader.  Everything appears normal:It installed without a problem and appears as fuctioning normally under the device manager.  When I I open the Biometric Devices manager from the control panel it is listed as one of two biometric devices (the other one is the built in fingerprint reader on the laptop). it is listed as "Not enrolled" while the built-in sensor is listed as "Enrolled".When I click on "Use your fingerprint with windows" on the left panel and get the "More than one fingerprint reader was found. Dear, I am an IT guy at a MNC and I ordered three X270 in Auguest from a Lenovo re-tailer.after I received them from the vendor, I noticed that I could hear loud fan noise that was usual compared to x250, 260 and even x270 that I purchased a few month ago while I was configuring outlook,. The 3 laptops have been making almost the same level of noise while it's running just windows.  I did not install anything and I ordered them with win 10 pro and outlook was installed as default. Users keep complaining about it cause they used to use x250 but it didn't make the noise like this. the bios update did not make a difference so I could help them so far. Today, I received a X270 that I ordered a few weeks ago from a different vendor and it's definitely making fan noise but it's a bit quieter than the above 3 laptops.  I searched about this issue in this forum and found nothing helpful so I am going to call Lenovo Service Center to send an engineer to compare the fan noise. If you guys have any suggestions, please let me know. I will also keep posted.

Hi, I'm having issues getting the configuration to work. The X220t internal fingerprint reader works fine. I got single-sign-on working from boot right into my Windows 8 domain account. However, the external reader from the USB Lenovo Preferred Pro Fingerprint Keyboard (conntect via USB on Ultra-Dock) does not work at all. It's recognized fine and shows up in Windows Device Manager without any issues. It does use the same driver as the internal one. Not sure if that is intentional or not. Might be the same hardware. But the Windows Biometrics Settings show that device an "Unavailable". I already resetted the fingerprint data (in BIOS and Windows 8). Note, the external reader worked fine in Windows 7. It stopped working during boot quite a while ago, though. Thus, there might be a BIOS issue as well. The BIOS is set to "external -> internal". Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I've been having an issue with my X270 laptop since I bought it. The laptop is running Windows 10. What happens is randomly (this can take weeks, or days) the trackpad and pointing stick completely stops working. The only solution is to uninstall the drivers and reinstall them using an external mouse. I've tried various versions of the drivers, including the latest, and it still continues to happen. Any solutions to fix this?

Hi,I was wondering, whether there are actually some Lenovo guys around, or at least people who can get in touch with them. Many people have been trying to get the new fingerprint reader (by Validity / Synaptic) to run under Linux. However it seems, that there simply is no driver around.I'm talking about the fancy new fingerprint reader found in the current Thinkpad generation (Yoga X1, X1 Carbon, X260, X460, T460s, T460p).The linux community already tried to develop some driver, however it seems, that the traffic is encrypted. The only, however very tiresome possibility would probably be to port the Windows driver... See https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=94536 for infos. However in the recent years Lenovo did quite some good work for Linux support, thus I was wondering, whether it would be possible for this to continue. Greetings,grb19

My girlfriend recently moved over from Australia to the U.S. and gave me her old laptop (a Toshiba Satellite M100) saying there were issues with it turning itself off, and lagging badly. So I wiped the drive (to fix the lag) and installed Linux instead of Windows on it. This did fix the lag, but not the turning itself off (I'm thinking this has something to do with the battery as it does it when you set it down sometimes). After installing Linux we had the hairbrain idea of inputting my fingerprint into the scanner as she can't remember the bios password. Anyways, after deciding to input my print, and putting Linux on the computer instead of Windows, she tells me that the only way she can remember how to input my print is from the security center on the Windows desktop. Not gonna help me any with it not having Windows. So my question is, is there anyway to input my print on Linux, or do I have to figure out the bios password? If it's figuring out the password, how do I do so?

I've been eyeing this laptop for a while, and was disappointed to hear that things that I have seen work out of the box for years with Linux are broken on this laptop. Namely the touchpad. This only seems to be the case on the 15in model. The 13in is reported to work fine. It's unfortunate the Lenovo fails to realize that people who spend 2k on a laptop tend to be computer enthusiasts, many of whom run Linux.  I can amost guarentee the amount of RMAs they are going to get from this are going to cost more than the few hours it would take 1 or 2 developers to write a touchpad driver for Linux. This is the only convertable on the market with a good GPU so I might still get it and try to either write a driver or get it working through some other means. Has anyone else had any luck with the touchpad or the fingerprint reader on Linux?

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issues with Fingerprint sensor on your ThinkPad T430.

Are you getting any LED indication on the fingerprint sensor? If yes, then try reinstalling the software from thinkvantage system update utility.

Hope this helps.

I wasn't sure if this was the place for this but here goes.

when using the fingerprint scanner on a network with pasword changes every 90days, does the fingerprint scanner on a lenovo laptop synch properly with a newly updated password? I have a user here who changed the password but the fingerprint scanner did not seem to recognize the change since when you first set it up it asks for your current password. Once setup correctly all you have to do is scan your fingerprint and it logs you in.

Any info would be great.

Thanks,

Answer:FingerPrint Thinkpad T440p

If you are asking for custom interface into Validity device, with all respect you are doing it wrong.  In Win7 and newer OS, you should be using Windows Biometric Framework (WBF) which is the standard since 2009.

If you insist on using legacy interface, you can try to contact Validity directly to see if they will help you.

Hi,The fingerprint scanner LED on my W530 died. Here are the symptoms: - Fingerprint reader is not recognized in BIOS -I deleted the driver and its files from device manager but the TouchChip finger print processor reinstall itself.  The properties for the device is:Device Type: biometric devicesManufacturer: AuthenTec (I think the company has since been acquired by Apple)Location:  Port_#0003.Hub_#0004 - The following message shows up in the event viewer:  "Driver Management concluded the process to install driver tcwbfadv.inf_amd64_5a48bf8b68a239ce\tcwbfadv.inf for Device Instance ID USB\VID_147E&PID_2020\6&387E66F3&0&3 with the following status: 0x0." - ThinkVantage fingerprint software doesn't find the fingerprint reader I concluded that this is a HW issue with the scanner.  I ordered a new fingerprint scanner for someone in China which looked just like the original (one never knows).  I installed the new scanner to no avail - no LED.  The cable connected to the fingerprint scanner is shared with the mouse. Since the mouse is working OK, there is a good chance that the cable is OK but I cannot be sure. Anyone has any ideas on where I should go next?  It appears that the TouchChip fingerprint processor is working but something else is failing.

Answer:ThinkPad W530 - Boot with fingerprint

Assuming you have a fingerprint reader with your fingerprints enrolled, this is how I would set it up on my W520 running Windows 7.  You could see if it will work with your W530. 1.  Access "ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software" console.  Two ways to do this.  One is to go to Control Panel and click on User Accounts and Family Safety.  When you have the User Accounts window open, look to the list on the shaded panel on the left, the item at the bottom is "Manage your fingerprint data."  Click on this, it brings you to the Fingerprint console. Another way to do this is to choose "Lenovo Device Experience."  It may be in your start menu or programs list.  Under "Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools," choose "Fingerprint Reader."  2.  When you open the Fingerprint Software console, you will first see a schematic of the fingerprints you have registered.  Across the black bar at the top of the Window, you'll see "Settings" as the third option.  Choose Settings. 3.  In fingerprint settings, you'll see the options you're looking for.  The first one is "use fingerprint scan instead of password when logging into windows" under the Heading "Windows Authentication."  You can decide if you want this or not.Under the Heading "Power On Security" is the option you're looking for:  "Use fingerprint scan instead of power-on button."  On my system, I also chose the item beneath this, "enab... Hi. I am using an X1 Carbon (2014 Gen). Win 7 - 64 bit pre installed. Latest finger print manager pro software from lenovo 8.01.07. Tried everything and all possible combinations on the fingerprint software. But can't start my machine by swiping. The reader works perfect otherwise. I can pass bios log on to windows etc. But I still have to go through the power on button. I observe that in the new software (unlike in the earlier ones) there are no start on buttons to be clicked above the fingerprints. Anyone knows how to bypass pressing the power on button and start the machine directly by swiping the enrolled finger?

ISTR that this feature isn't available any more.  Something about Apple buying the reader manufacturer - and their patents - and refusing to supply the rest of the industry.  Readers available to Lenovo just can't do a power on.

Hi

I don't have that Thinkpad model, but for what I remember in some other model the Fingerprint reader was internally connected to an USB port.

You can check some programs like HWInfo and check where is the fingerprint reader plugged to see if Windows recognize there is a deviced plugged on it. It can also be interesting for you to grab the hardwareID to know the manufacturer of it.

Which Windows version are you using?
There is also some fingerprint drivers on the Yoga 260 support site for Win10 and Win7.

Hi all, I was trying to install new Win7 x64 install on a couple of new T440s since we are using MDT. Now the following problem occurs:After installing a clean OS with the SCCM package + fingerprint manager pro the reader is not working/recognizing my finger. No leds happen or what so ever. When I open up another T440s and an OOBE install from Lenovo the fingerprint reader works. Now out of the box the Biometric drivers that are installed are called Validity drivers and a different version of Fingerprint Manager (sorry for not knowing that specific version number). In this situation the fingerprint reader works just fine. But when you install with the latest drivers it's called: Synaptics FP Sensors with Fingerprint Manager Pro v8.01.35 (x64). Any idea on how to get the fingerprint reader to work on a clean install ? Looking forward to hear from u. Thanks in advance

I installed the most recent ThinkVantage Password Manager software yesterday through the Lenovo Solution Software.  It is version 4.70.20.  Today, when I booted my computer, my fingerprint reader is no longer working (it worked yesterday before the installation and all day yesterday after the installation).  I cannot find a fingerprint reader in Device Manager, but there is one "Unknown USB Device (device Descriptor Request Failed)" which is listed as not working in device manager. I feel like the software update killed the fingerprint driver as it is no longer available in any application (windows logon, website logon, etc.).  Has anyone else had this problem?  Can someone from Lenovo Support please look at this issue? I've installed no other software recently and have uninstalled and reinstalled both the ThinkVantage Password Manager and Lenovo Fingerprint Manager Pro (version 8.01.26(x64) today to try to resolve the issue.

Hey guys, I have got a rather small question concerning the synaptics fingerprint sensor with the Lenovo Fingerprint Manager Pro Software. If I enable log-in with my fingerprint the system start up is much slower than usual - I have to wait about 10 - 20 seconds longer until I can log-in using the fingerprint sensor if I have configured my system to use the sensor. If I uninstall the Fingerprint Manager Pro, WIndows Log-in screen appears promptly and I can enter my password. My system has the following setup:Thinkpad T440s with Win7 64bit12GB RAMi5 4200256GB SSD Why does it take so long to show the log-in screen when the Fingerprint Manager Pro is configured? May I use another software to run the sensor? I have nearly all Lenovo Software installed, just the Access Connections Tool and the Password Manager are not on my disk (and currently, Fingerprint Manager Pro). Actually, the sensor is quite convenient, but I am not willing to wait at each startup just for the fingerprint sensor. Thank you very much for your help and advice!

Hi there, I just have a question regarding the Thinkpad E550's Fingerprint scanner. On the website, it says that the Fingerprint scanner is available on 'some models only'. Does this mean it is only available on certain regions laptops? I am in Australia by the way, if anyone can confirm if the Australian model has the Fingerprint scanner, it would be greatly appreciated, as I am looking to buy one. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Thinkpad E550 Fingerprint Scanner

It is not marked dependent, but it is just a simple matter of which model at which price you choose. There are models with low (medium) resolution monitor or  high resolution monitors. There are models with traditional drives and models with SSDs. And, there are models with or without fingerprint reader. All E 550.It is your choice, buy what you need.

I just bought a Thinkpad t540p for a decent price...then I discovered that the fingerprint reader I thought was there was not included. I have chatted with support and they indicated that the laptop would have to come "configured" with this capability.  They didn't come right out and say it, but the hint was that it couldn't be added after the fact.  I personally think this could be done if you had the right parts. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of addition?  Any help appreciated.

Answer:Fingerprint Reader for Thinkpad t540p

It can be added. You need to replace the upper case (keyboard bezel). I believe the FRU is 04X5550.  On this model, it is not considered customer-replaceable, so if you do it yourself and there are problems, it could affect warranty status.

I'm the proud new(ish) owner of a Thinkpad T420 and I was rally looking forward to playing around with the Fingerprint Sensor. Initially, I couldn't find the program, it being a refurbished office machine, I wasn't overly surprised, so I downloaded the program and went to open it. at which point I got a message saying that no fingerprint sensor had been detected. At that point I started googleing. First, I checked the BIOS to make sure it was enabled (it was) and reset the data for it (can't remember the actual wording of the option) to no avail. then, after a bit more googleing, I tried rebooting the machine in compatibility (through the SATA in BIOS) and then booting again in ADHI (I think that's what it's called, can't remember, and I'm away from my beloved T420 at the moment) ... this posed to strange things:1. The laptop was already running with Compatibility in SATA in the BIOS (no idea why)2. The laptop doesn't boot in the other mode ... just repeatedly goes through startup then flashes a bluescreen and restarts the laptop (which confused the hell out of me, but may have explained why it's running in compatability). does anyone know of a way of successfully getting the fingerprint sensor to be recognised and work with Windows 7 pro (I've seen some posts from 2013 etc where people claim to just need to install the old driver, but I've seen other posts where that isn't working)? Also, do I need to worry that my thinkpad only seems to work in... I've been having an issue with my fingerprint reader. At startup, it would sometimes take upwards of a minute to be available for use. Sometimes, it simply never came on at all, even after leaving the computer to sit for half an hour it would still be telling me "please wait..." This has been going on for about a year, but I never really paid much attention since it was intermittent (would happen about once or twice every two weeks). But lately it's been doing it just about every time I turn on the computer, which sort of defeats the purpose of a fingerprint reader. Does anyone have a similar problem, or any suggestions to fix? If it helps, my machine is a 2764CTO.

Answer:Help Thinkpad x131e Fingerprint Reader Issues

I am having sort of the same problem on my X230 (Win 7). I couple days ago my Fingerprint reader stopped working, though it appeared on Device Manager as ok. I've tried updating everything - drivers (including rolling back), bios, software updates through ThinkVantage Tools but with no success.  After all these updates, the fingerprint sensor does not even show on BIOS when I try to reset fingerprint data ("Fingerprint sensor not installed").  About the same time, I've started having almost daily BSODs with "Bugcode_usb_driver". Not sure if they were related. Yesterday I had a major hang on Windows 7 start screen and tried to restore to factory settings only to find out restore wouldn't work. I managed to get it going again and installed Acronis True Image to handle the restore as Lenovo is uncapable of. I assume this could be a hardware problem instead? Any ideas how to fix that? (thought about opening everything up to check connections).  I'm somewhat disappointed at Lenovo as my warranty expired 1 month ago. It was my first Lenovo and I decided not to buy extended warranty after hearing so many good things about it's durability. Now it seems that the mean time between it starts breaking down is worse than my previous HPs and Dells...

Answer:Problem with fingerprint reader on thinkpad x230

Hi, ajbrewer93

Are you using the Lenvovo software when you are getting this error? If so, this error normally appears when the finger is swiped across the reader and the duration was not long enough. Also, I would make sure the drivers for the reader are up to date (which can be found here), and also that the software is up to date (which can be found here.) When searching for the driver, you can use the dropdown menus to filter by operating system and device (i.e., Fingerprint Reader) to make searching faster.

Hope it helps,
Adam

It seems like every other day when I try to log in with my fingerprint access I get the error message "E7210001 Access is denied."  What causes this?  It does log in at other times with no problems.

Answer:ThinkPad W700 (2752-62U) and Fingerprint Scanner

I was having a problem with the latest Fingerprint Software on my W700, too, so I uninstalled it. I've been using the generic fingerprint driver/software from Windows Update for a while. I'd say that it's more responsive than Lenovo's but the drawback is that it has fewer features and you can't use it with the CSS suite. At least, it works and it's fast.

Hi all, is anyone experiencing heat increase around the fingerprint reader on the edge 530? (3259 C2G in this case).I suffer this overheating both in windows and linux and I just wonder which component could be causing this overheat. It seems around the fingerprint reader one can find the usb and audio jack connection.Things I have tried so far:- Disable port usb1 (to which the fingerprint sensor and the bluetooth are attached)- Set disk drive to low power. This overheating only occurs on AC power so in my opinion it must be a component that the BIOS decides to change from powersave mode to performance mode but not sure which one it could be and how to change this behavior. It seems that setting the hard drive to low power profile mitigates the problem and I wonder if the SATA component could be around... Any help would be very welcome.

So tonight, I came home from vacation and turned on my ThinkPad W520 to find that Windows was no longer able to recognize the fingerprint reader that's built into the PC. I was getting error: E7210005 upon the logon menu as well as when I opened up Lenovo's software. I uninstalled, restarted, and reinstalled the ThinkVantage Fingerprint software twice (there were two versions available for Windows 7 64bit). Neither have solved the issue. BIOS is up-to-date and the reader is enabled in BIOS, but still having no luck. I'm currently logged in, and the green indicator light is still remaining lit while I'm using my ThinkPad. In Device Manager, I'm also unable to see the fingerprint reader that was once listed. Any ideas? I called Lenovo and they weren't able to help much, said only to try a restore. Thanks in advance!

Answer:ThinkPad W520 Fingerprint Reader Unrecognizable

Maybe try resetting the fingerprint data in BIOS? Sometimes helps.

Hello everyone! This P50's a few weeks old and so far I love it. It's got everything I want except a keyboard backlight, a bottom that doesn't scuff, and this: A fingerprint scanner that sometimes refuses to work. Let me explain this in detail. The fingerprint scanner works around 9/10ths of the time after waking up from sleep. The light blinks when I place my finger on it, and I log in. However, 1 of every 10 times this happens: When I place my finger on the fingerprint scanner (showing a green light in this state), the green light turns off and no scan seems to take place. There's no authentication or error. When I release my finger, the green light comes back on again. Is there any reason as to why this happens? Thank you!

Hello all, I hope you are doing well I purchased my T460P slightly over a year ago. When it arrived, the fingerprint sensor worked perfectly fine. Then I did a reset of Windows 10 and found that the sensor would not work. I got a error Code 10 in device manager. Some research unearthed the fact that this was a known issue when resetting Windows 10 and the only solution was a clean install. Today, after finding the time to backup all my files, I finally did do my clean install of Windows 10. However, I run into the same issue. After installing all drivers and getting everything to work fine, the fingerprint sensor still shows a yellow exclamation mark in device manager and the error: "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" I made sure to format my hard drive when installing and did a complete clean install with no leftover data from my previous install. I downloaded the latest driver from the support page and have also updated BIOS to the latest version (as of November 1 2017). I'm not quite sure what to do next. I know there is no hardware issue as the sensor was working fine and it was the initial reset that caused it to stop working. The laptop has been taken care of well and has had no falls or knocks. I would appreciate any input and thank you for your time in advance
