Satellite C70D-C Keyboard and Wi-Fi issues

Question: Satellite C70D-C Keyboard and Wi-Fi issues

Hi There,

I have had a Satellite C70D for about 18 months now, but have not used it in the past year as I have been disputing with customer services about the windows licence for the machine as I lost it when I formatted the original hard drive before installing an SSD and they wouldnt send me a copy of it. I have now bitten the bullet and bought a windows 10 licence again. However since building the machine a few days ago, I have been having a couple of issues and as it is now out of warranty, I cannot contact customer support (Who I found unhelpful even when it was in warranty!)

The first issue is when I boot up the machine, occasionally the keyboard will not work, I cannot type the BitLocker pin and I have to remove the battery and press and hold the power button for 10 seconds, this then fixes the issue for a few reboots before it goes again.

The second is that occasionally it will boot up with a red x next to the WiFi symbol, but it detects the WiFi card, usually a reboot fixes this but not always. I have reseated the card and still no avail.

Can anyone shed any light on what may be causing this? The BIOS is up-to-date as are all of the drivers.

Thanks in advance for your help

Preferred Solution: Satellite C70D-C Keyboard and Wi-Fi issues

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have 2 issues with my new Satellite C70D-B-32U.
When I put it in sleep mode, it does. But after about 5 minutes, it goes automatically to hibernate. This I don't want. And I don't want to disable hibernate, because I do use it when the laptop is not in use for longer periods. The power settings in control panel do not reflect this behaviour. In the settings, I specified that the laptop should never go to hibernate. Hybrid state is disabled.

And secondly, more importantly. Whenever it goes to hibernate, I can only wake it up with the power button. Not with the (internal) keyboard, not with the usb mouse. I would like an option to wake it from hibernate by pressing any key on the keyboard. In bios power on keyboard is set to on. Is there anything else I can change to have this available?
Actually if issue 1 is solved and the laptop stays in sleep mode, this issue is also solved since from sleep I can wake on a mouseclick which is also fine.

The OS is windows 8.1

Hello everybody,
the Toshiba Sat C70D-B-317 (PSCLEE01L009FR) is on it's way and I don't have it for the moment but I would like to know if there is a way to add some Ram to this machine without opening everything?
Also, is it possible to change the HD in the future in the same conditions?

sorry, but it's my first PC laptop and as a Mac user I'm completely lost with all these models and different serial numbers.

I thank you in advance for your answer.

Answer:Satellite C70D-B-317 - Ram upgrade

1. yes you can upgrade your RAM, This laptop has 2 slots with one 4GB standard so if you would you can put one more 4GB. With 2x4 you have Dual-channel and that works much faster than single

I don't know if your HDD can e upgraded. When it's not possible you can always buy a external HDD

I hope i helped you

My wive purchase this computer coupple of months ago. It was from the beginning ferry slow on windows 8
The wurst laptop we ever had. We feel robbed of our money.

2 months ago we started with Ubuntu. It Still slow. IS there anybody with the same problems?

Answer:Satellite C70D-A-108 is very slow

Hi Marco

I don't have this notebook model and cannot confirm what you wrote but fact is that almost all new notebooks are pretty slow at the beginning. Many applications are set to start with Windows and this, of course, slows down boot time.
Windows updates are also set to automatic so in the background the machine will download and install many updates so this will slow down your machine rapidly.

In my opinion you should install original OS that you got with this machine and optimize it a bit.
Remove all useless stuff, change start-up option and disable automatic Windows updates.
In the past I have noticed that original preinstalled antivirus is also responsible for notebook?s performance so I don't use original preinstalled application but my own version of Avir Antivir and it runs perfectly.

Check all these options and I hope your machine will run much better than before.

Just bought a Satellite C70D with Win 8.1. Everything works (as far as I know until know), except boot from DVD. I disabled in the bios the Secure Boot and changed the boot order to DVD first, then USB and then HDD. The DVD drive starts, but then it skips to the HDD and Windows is started. First time I tried there was a message like "DVD boot not supported" or something like that.
The DVD is bootable, so that is not the problem.
I would like to install Linux Mint alongside Windows.
Anyone solved this problem already?

Answer:Satellite C70D - How to boot from DVD

Update: changing from UEFI to CMS in the BIOS Advanced tab makes it possible to boot from DVD, but Windows won't boot anymore.... Is there any possibility to boot from DVDE and still be able to start Windows as well?

I want to upgrade RAM with additional 4 GB but at the bottom of the notebook there is no RAM cover so I don't have access to the RAM slots.
I don't want to cancel valid warranty so I don't want to open it alone.
What should I do ???

Good evening,

I'm sorry to disturb,
but I find myself in a situation to which I find no solution,
that's why I come here asking for some help.

A friend has just purchased the following laptop:
- Satellite C70D-B-307

but the worry is that apparently it is impossible to have access to the HDD recovery to execute the factory restoration.
I try all possible solutions that I find on the web and none of it works.

what to do ?

does Toshiba sell the recovery DVDs that will restore the computer to its factory state?

Thank you very much .

I have a C70D-A-107 and want to speed up this notebook. Already placed 4gb extra memory so the notebook has now 8gb internal. I doubt whether it is usefull to put in 2x8gb. I think the processor is just to slow. It has a AMD E1-2100 inside. Is it possible to put in another (faster) processor?

Answer:Speed-up Satellite C70D-A-107

The Satellite C70D-A-107 was equipped with an AMD Essentials E1-2100 Accelerated CPU (1,00 GHz, 1 MB L2 Cache)
It’s not the fastest CPU therefore the notebook performance isn’t the best…

But CPU upgrade isn’t officially supported by notebook manufacturer... therefore I don’t think that you will be able to upgrade the CPU…

I read about successful Intel CPU upgrades but did not meet anyone who was able to perform an upgrade with an AMD CPU

According notebook specification your machine was delivered with preinstalled Win8.1 64BIT ML.
Original preinstalled version is perfectly configured with all necessary drivers.

The question is: what are you doing with your machine?
Do you try to use some older Windows version?

I'm looking for a new display for my Toshiba Satellite C70D-A-11K!

Please help!

Answer:Need new display for my Satellite C70D-A

The Satellite C70D-A-11K was equipped with the 17.3" LED color LCD panel with the supporting max resolution of 1600 x 900 px
You should be able to order such display panel from local Toshiba authorized service provider or you could check some 3rd part online dealers who provide compatible notebook parts…

As I mention above: you should look for the 17.3" panels.

After a regular shutdown I cannot boot the system anymore.
System starts but does not boot.

Referring to the manual (section 6, solutions of problems) I tried to hit [F12] after power on but nothing happened.
Same when hitting [F2].

My impression is that something failed on hard disk drive.

P.S. system has Win10 installed.

Hi All,

I have an Satellite C70D-A-11D ... when I use once the FN Key to do a Print Screen or use the Screen-Zoom on the Space Key...

I am not able to use the Keynumbers 1 to 4 neither the space Key to enter a space between two always change between the bigger screen solution or the normal solution...

I only can change the FN Key again after change the settings in Display settings and after a reboot...
So I cant use FN without a reset with the F1 to F12 Key use and a reboot...

Normaly the FN Key works only if it is pressed...if not the normal Function of the Keys 1 to 4 or F1 to F12 will work if configured in the settings, or not?

What to do?

Kind regards

Answer:Satellite C70D-A-11D Function Key deactivate after use

First of all you can change between the special function key mode (without pressing FN key) or normal (standard) mode (Hold Fn first to use standard F1-F12 functions.)

This function can be changed in BIOS.
In BIOS go to Advanced -> System configuration

Check this option.

Hi all,

My grandmother recently bought this Toshiba, mostly i recommend people a Toshiba but this is going to far.

I wasn't aware that she bought a laptop untill she called me and said she needs help because she never worked with such a slow computer as this Toshiba.

So my question is

How much logic does Toshiba has? I mean putting 6GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM ( ok nice for a casual laptop ) doesn't quite fit with a >>1GHz<< processor. for the rest the specs aren't terrible.

Can somebody explain me why this laptop has a 1GHz processor with 6GB of RAM. this doensn't makes sence at all

So I bought this laptop a few months ago.
For the past few weeks the Laptop stopped playing sound.
I watched a stream in Chrome.

So actually I should be able to see the sound playing in the mixer.
But I wasn't able to play any sound or get any deflection in the mixer.

Then I installed Speccy and as this administration window popped up a sound was played and it worked.

I have no idea why the sound stopped working and why it started again.
Is someone able to help me?

I am using Windows 8.1

Answer:Satellite C70D-A-11D - no sound, random

The main thing is that you have sound again. It is not easy to say what was wrong there.
Have you installed some updates or anything else that can be responsible for this sound issue?

Answer:Can I replace the HDD in my Satellite C70D-B -00P model with an SSD?

Generally speaking yes, you can do this but problem is that your notebook model doesn't have HDD cover at the bottom side.
To have full access to the HDD the bottom cover must be removed completely but it should be done by authorized service only.

Of course you can try to do it alone but I?m afraid you may lose the warranty.
If possible contact nearest Toshiba service provider in your country, explain the situation and ask for help.

I picked up a brand new c70d-b-10u today from a well known retailer.
I turned it on, set the language, gave a computer name, hooked up to a wi fi and then it asked for Other User Password!

I never entered a password to start with so why is it asking for one?

I cannot get to the shop again until next week and urgently need to get up and running.

Any ideas greatly received.

Answer:Brand new Satellite C70D-B-10U wants a password?

Try to recover the notebook once again using the HDD recovery option.

The recovery procedure would reset the notebook back to factory settings… usually after that no passwords should be set…

My girlfriend bought me a new Toshiba laptop C70D-B-10U (my second Toshiba), it is a good laptop apart from the speakers they are terrible. I didn't want my first post to be a complaint but, Toshiba cut corners when it put the speakers in this series of laptops.

Or have I not set them right has anyone else had this problem, any ideas or solutions thank you.

Answer:Bad Speakers on Satellite C70D-B-10UM

I think your notebook has only small stereo speakers and the sound is not the best. I have Satellite S50-B with Harman/kardon speakers and sound is really good.

You can try to change sound options but if you want to have better sound I’m afraid you need external speakers, Maybe BT speakers.

I have a Satellite C70D-A-114...

i hardly used it because it was slow

so i wanted to sell it

first i wanted to set it back to factory settings

doing that, in that process i seem to have deleted all files

so now i get message no bootable disc etc.

Tried everything, there is simply no recovery file

So where can i find such a file for free? It's just not normal that it is not on the site.

Answer:Need recovery files for my Satellite C70D-A-114

All you can find for free are all drivers, tools and utilities. Original recovery image (software package) is not for free and if you need it you must order recovery disc directly by Toshiba.

You can order it on

By the way: in user’s manuals document is clearly described how you can create recovery installation disc. I’m wondering you didn’t make it in the past.

I am new to this forum and purchased a Satellite C70D yesterday.
I went thru set up, It asked me for my email and password.

I entered this and the next time I logged in there was my hotmail profile photo.
I entered my password - no problem. I changed the language from Spanish to English etc etc.

I switched it on this morning and got the Toshiba Logo - then it went to blank screen and there was a large data entry box asking me for a password. I tried the same one and I get another screen showing a red data entry box saying "VERIFY ERROR!! Please reenter to continue!!

Can anyone help me please. I am operating windows 8.1

All I can do is move the cursor and use the mousepad when keeping the left mouse button at the same time.
Anyone a solution?

Answer:Satellite C70D - impossible to deblock mousepad

To be honest I’ve never heard about such touchpad behaviour.
Have you tested all touchpad settings?
If there is option to set all of them on default settings please do this and test functionality again.

Anyway, best hardware test is to reinstall operating system and check touchpad functionality with “factory settings”.

Hi all,

excuse the new thread but I haven't found any answers anywhere online, just speculation and it's for different models.

So I have a C70D-B-10U, running windows 7 64bit pro. When I formatted it and updated everything, it just kept crashing when trying to play back videos on Windows Media Player. I cleaned the inside and replaced thermal paste, updated to even newer drivers, and started using VLC as my default media player. It rarely crashed BUT it always does when I try to start playing games (nothing heavy - League of Legends). Laptop seems to be doing well with memory tests, no faults detected.

I've read that this could be caused by:
Faulty GPUFaulty BatteryFaulty PSUBad Capacitors on the MOBO

Has anyone had any similar experience? I've reinstalled Windows and it's the same story. If it's a motherboard issue, I guess it would be better to just get a new one?

Answer:Satellite C70D-B-10U no warning crash (power, GPU or capacitors)

Update: I decided to test the RAM and it seems like it can't handle 8GB. Both 4GB sticks work on any slot, but when I have all of it on the machine it crashes. Do you think it is a motherboard issue?

I have a toshiba C70D-B-306 (psclee) laptop and I reinstalled windows 8.1 from a seperate DVD because i exchange the default harddrive for a fast ssd disk.

Everything works but in my device manager I have 2 unknown devices listed (with exclamation mark), as far as I know I downloaded all available drivers from toshiba support website for this laptop and installed them but the 2 unknown devices simply will not disappear.

Can someone tell me which driver I exactly need for these 2 devices?

The 2 devices are:

As mentioned, i allready downloaded all drivers for this laptop and installed them, windows is ofcourse up-to-date. Also I let windows search for drivers on the Internet and on the whole drive, but no drivers where found.

Who can give me the golden tip?

Answer:Satellite C70D-B-306 - 2 unknown devices in device list

There is a good method in order to find out what drivers are missing.
First of all you should check the DEV (device) and VEN (vendor) IDs

Here is an short instruction how to find this details:

Knowing the device and vendor ID, it should not be a big deal to get the right drivers.

At the other hand you should install also additional Toshiba software (Toshiba System Driver) released for Win 8.1
Please note also that there are two Win 8.1 driver areas: ?Win 8.1 update? and ?Win 8.1 32bit/64bit? categories
In case you would not find all drivers within the Win 8.1 update check also the Win 8.1 32bit/64bit categories.

And where I can set that I consume more or less. since it is a separable memory yes.

Answer:Satellite C70D-A: game lags due to graphic chip?

Well, I?m wondering why you purchased a unit with an internal (part of CPU) graphic chip if you want use the notebook for gaming?

The notebook supports the AMD Radeon HD 8400 graphics which is part of AMD Quad-Core A6-5200 CPU.
Such GPU is similar to Intel HD GPU which is also part of Intel CPUs.

Such internal graphic cards are not really designed for gaming? of course you would be able to run and to play a game but don?t expect too much?

Hi there,

I was bought the above model of laptop for an early Christmas present which usually sits down in the living room, my old Satellite Pro sat down there with no issues however with this device the wireless signal is very low and I appear to be having it sitting right next to the wireless router (which is located upstairs in my sons bedroom), I wondered if there's any steps I could take to improve the signal?

It baffles me how a new system has such a poor wireless signal when my old Satellite Pro which was 6 years old had no wireless issues whatsoever.

My other issue is from the moment I switched the laptop on (yesterday when it was delivered) the updates on Windows Update are slow or don't start at all, is this an issue or just normal?

I'd appreciate any help or input at all, thank you.

I have buy a Satellite C70D-A-11T and pass it on Windows 7 64 bits Home Premium.
I install all the drivers and I haven't any problems.

When I want to connect it to my TV for first time, I discover there is no sound on the TV.
I try to go on the speaker (near the clock of windows), right click, sound, first tab (I think it is "Playback" in english... I have a french Windows) and my device (TV) doesn't appear.

I come back on Toshiba Support website to download the last driver "HDMI Audio driver" for my laptop, I connect the cable, and it appear in the sound properties. I select it as my default device and the sound come right from my TV.

Great !

But when I restart my laptop (with or without the HDMI cable), the TV disappear from the list in the sound properties, the only one solution to recover the sound is to reinstall the HDMI Audio Driver.
If I start the driver installation with the "advanced" option, I have the list of drivers to install and I see all drivers are already installed, but the HDMI Audio Driver will be upgraded... I install it and it work until the next restart.

Could you explain me why the version of the driver don't stay on the system, and how to make it work without reinstall it everyday ?

Thanks a lot for your help.

ODD on my Satellite C70D-A-11E (05.2014) won?t to read DVDs anymore. It doesn't matter which one I try it simply doesn't work.
Latest driver is installed.

Answer:ODD on my Satellite C70D-A-11E wont read DVDs anymore

If optical disc drive is installed properly maybe is reading lens dirty. Try to clean it up.

Other way, if your ODD can read CDs but not DVDs it can also be hardware malfunction. The reading lens cannot be calibrated properly and cannot find the right position to read DVD media.

In such case ODD must be exchanged.

Try to clean lens up and check if the problem persists. If yes contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

Would be grateful for any advice to remove the back panel.

I've removed battery, ~16 screws + 1 tiny screw at the optical drive and whilst it does 'unclick' everywhere else, there seems to be something stopping the panel being removed just above the battery compartment and don't want to force it.

Even our IT guys at work cannot work it out.

PLEASE new laptop is very slow so have purchased RAM but can't access the back.

Answer:Satellite C70D-B-30D: How to access back panel after ~16 screws removed

At first I must say that you should not remove bottom cover alone because it will cancel valid warranty. If there is no RAM cover, RAM should be exchanged or upgraded by authorized personal only.

I know every of us think it is easy to do and want to do this alone.
What I know is follow:
2 screws in the middle are fixing the keyboard. What must be removed are 14 screws and small flat screw at the optical drive. That’s all. There is no other hidden screw.

Of course there are also small plastic holders and bottom cover must be removed very gently.

Hello everybody,
brand new C70D two days old, if I want to look a Youtube video full screen after a few minutes, the C70D stops, blue screen with a message : your computer gets a problem, we collect informations ect.
After a restart the same problem comes again a few minutes later.
I have 14 days to accept this machine, but if it's a graphic card problem I prefer to return it to the vendor.

I thank you in advance for your answer.

Answer:Satellite C70D sops after a few minutes with YouTube full screen

If I connect the Toshiba to the printer via USB, it prints OK.

Can somebody steer me in the right direction please?

I've only noticed today that when I turn up my laptop's volume up to about 28 (even with headphones in), there's this high pitch noise that comes from the speakers. And I'm sure it's the speakers and not anything else.
But the sound is sort of that real ear-killing noise so I can't listen to it for long. It even sometimes sounds like thousands of crickets - a complete nightmare

But with my volume at any level below 28 I can listen to whatever through headphones without the sound bothering me.

Does anyone have any ideas for a solution? I do know a thing or two about computers but nothing about anything extremely technical and I'm not sure if I want to take it apart, unless I really have to.

If you could help me it would be appreciated!

I've seen other keyboard problems on the threads but none of them seem to match mine!

I have had this computer since January and am having trouble with the keyboard already. The main problem is the left arrow key - it works when I press it on the left-hand side but not if I press the other side of the key.

I also have a feeling the other keys don't always work as well as they should - sometimes I know that I pressed a key but the letter doesn't show up. This is just random and sporadic as far as I can tell (whereas the arrow key problem is consistent).

I would be grateful if anyone had any advice about this problem and whether it means getting a new keyboard or whether it can be easily fixed.

Thank you!

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem with my keyboard? Basically I've had this laptop since June 2012 and had no problems with it until I started using Word not so long ago (I'm currently in night school).

Basically, when typing a report, it's as if the keyboard has developed a mind of it's own.
The laptop will randomly copy and paste the last few words I typed over and over until I stop it by pressing escape. This is very annoying when trying to do any form of work.

Also when opening PowerPoint the other day, there was a very fast beeping sound as if a key was being held down - even though I wasn't touching the keyboard.

I've also noticed the same thing in Windows explorer, where the address bar will constantly scroll down as if someone is holding tab or clicking on it extremely quickly.

Strangely though, this issue doesn't happen in any browser. I haven't spilled anything on the laptop since I've had it and have not come across this issue before.

I've been looking around online and there seem to be several theories as to what could cause this issue:

The trackpad is too sensitive - I have since disabled the trackpad and bought a wireless mouse. This has not fixed the issue.

Windows 7 itself is the issue - I doubt this as it only happens in certain places.

Toshiba have oversubscribed certain buttons with extra functions and this is causing confusion - I have tried to disable the keyboard an use an external keyboard,... Read more

A very strange and annoying problem developed on my laptop about four days ago. First off, here are my laptop specs:

Satellite L650 - 19W
Windows 7 64bit
Intel Core i5 CPU

The problem is that some of the keys also trigger other ones.
For example, every time I hit space I get a 'p' first, followed by a space, the exact same happens when I press 'p'.

Similar results happen with the 'h' and the '6', the '3' and the '+', the 2 and the '/', the 'f' and the '4', as well as a few others. The right hand shift doesn't work with all the keys and back space cant be held down, i.e only deletes one character at a time.

I've tried restoring back to a point before this started happening as well as shutting down, removing the battery and holding down the start button for 60s, both to no avail. I've read that with similar problems, some people have recommended updating the BIOS.

I downloaded a BIOS update for this computer from the Toshiba website but am wary about running it due to a lot of people saying that you can ruin your computer ifp you dont know what your doing, is this true?

Any help would be much appreciated as it is driving me bonkers! It took half an hour to type this message!

Answer:Keyboard Issues on Satellite L650-19W

I think that there is no other solution as to replace the internal keyboard.
I guess its internal keyboard problem? an simple malfunction which can happen to internal keyboards.

Did you try external USB keyboard? Try it and test how the unit would act.
I guess it will work properly and the issue wouldn?t occur in connection with external USB keyboard.

I have a Satellite C50-A with major keyboard issues some of the keys work and others do not. For example none of the numeric keys work, S and D do not work and when I press the space bar i can occasionally get the letter S to work.

i have tried two new keyboards which have made no difference, I have searched and searched info on the net and this appears to be a problem associated with Microsoft updates but no one can tell me which one. This same issue appears to affect other brands as well, so I can safely assume it is not a hardware fault.

some have stated that I should turn off or delete the xchi/achieve in Bios which is my only option. I do not want to complete a full recovery because of the other installed software and yes I can do a back up, but why doesn't someone from Toshiba respond to all the concerns being raised.

this is the first Toshiba I have owned after many years using Dell products and I got to say I will not after this experience buy another Toshiba.

Can anyone confirm with any certainty what is causing these issues, sorry I do not want guesses, I will try the Bios fix but I have other than full recovery done everything else.

Answer:Satellite C50-A with major keyboard issues

sorry I do not want guesses

Sorry mate but I think that it’s always difficult to say what could be wrong without touching the notebook and therefore you will need to check some recommended workarounds.

For example none of the numeric keys work, S and D do not work and when I press the space bar i can occasionally get the letter S to work.

It would be interesting to know whether the external keyboard would work properly.
If you will not notice the same keyboard problems using external USB keyboard, then this issue isn’t related to the software (Microsoft updates). In my opinion this would mean that the internal keyboard is faulty.

However, you could also try to roll back the system to the early time point… this would also remove the MS updates… and in case one of the updates would affect the keyboard functionality, this workaround should help to fix it.

My Toshiba M40 has been giving me keyboard problems quite frequently. I get funny characters like NBA
when I press the left Shift key and then the keyboard starts behaving abnormally:

1. it shifts to caps mode -- to type lower letters, I have to actually use caps lock.
2. I can't use the shift key to type in the special characters above the numerals.
3. clicking on the menu bar gives me a different effect as if the shift key is already pressed while it is not.
4. pressing the right shift key takes me to the 'save' option.
5. I can't select one file or folder as several of them selected at one time.

And then I give up, shut down the computer (it doesnt restart at this time)
After some time, the computer starts normally but I am never sure when it will start misbehaving again.
I read about bios update, so got mine updated to the 1.7 version from toshiba website (this is the latest one they had for machines with ATI graphics).
sometimes, i use an external keyboard when the problem occurs repeatedly.

would appreciate advice on how to overcome this software / hardware problem.

Answer:Strange keyboard issues on Satellite M40

Hi Ashok,

It is not easy to say what is causing this strange behaviour, especially since it also occurs with an external keyboard. One clue is that the notebook will not restart after you shut it down unless you leave it for a short while. This would suggest that the unit is overheating and this may well be affecting the unit causing your problems.

I suggest you try giving the notebook a good clean to remove any build up of dust and debris from the CPU heatsink.

Hi Guys need some advice on how to tackle this issue...i have L730 not that old, my cat sat on the keyboard and now at times i have to press certain keys twice (not all keys just particular ones) for them to when it happens i restart the laptop and its fine, but the next time i restart it its gone back to being a pain,
I have noticed that my language settings have changed from English Australia (US) to English United States (US)..would this be causing the problem.

By the way have replaced the keyboard.. ran so many scans its not funny and updated all drivers..This laptop is clean as a whistle so to speak..

Thanks for any help you can provide..

Answer:Keyboard issues on Satellite L730

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what is wrong there. Maybe is this really some technical problem. This with input language can be changed very easy and you can do this. Define just one language as input language and check how it works.

But if you must press certain keys two times it can be technical problem that has nothing to do with keyboard settings.
> By the way have replaced the keyboard.....
How to understand this? have you new keyboard now but the same happen again or what?

Apologies if this has come up before but I could not find anything during a search. I bought the L655 (PSK1NE) laptop last October with Windows 7 HP and just recently I have noticed an increasingly more frequent problem with the mouse and keyboard which happens with both the laptops touchpad & k/b and a USB mouse and k/b. The focus seems to jump all over the place especially in IE9 when trying to type in form boxes. If you are not looking at the screen while typing it gets annoying because you look up to find that half of the sentence has suddenly shifted and is now being typed several lines away from where you started in amongst previous typed text. Sometimes when clicking back onto another window or program it seems to be inactive and no amount of clicking with the left button will generate any action, but by using the right button on the mouse or touch pad this seems to correct the problem. Rebooting seems to help for a bit but then the problem returns.

I read that similar problems were being experienced in the US where they have a V2 of the BIOS although I have the latest 1.6 BIOS update for Europe, so it seems it is a known problem and not unique to my laptop or set-up. I tried removing the battery as it was suggested this may be a problem but the issue persists.

Is there a fix available for this?

Many thanks.

Answer:Satellite L655D-12 - keyboard/mouse issues

Your courser jumps to another place sporadically?
I think you should disable the touchpad while typing!
I had an similar issue in the past? but I didn?t notice that I touched the touchpad surface accidentally while typing?
This was a reason why the cursor jumped to another line?

The keyboard caps lock key doesn't even light up when I press it,
I've downloaded all the latest drivers for EVERYTHING inc. the touchpad, this has made no difference,

I'm running out of ideas fast and coming to terms with the fact that the keyboard and touchpad might be faulty and as a result ill have to give my GF a faulty laptop for hewr 21st, not happy :(

Does any1 have any ideas?

Thanks :)

Edit: OK, very odd, right after i sent this message i tried the keyboard one more time and it works fine?

I have experienced exactly the same problem with this one;

I also explained what is the issue and how it developed over time in that topic.

To sum it up; my screen and keyboard are not working in my Toshiba Satellite R830-181, 13.3 inch laptop.

My questions;
1- Is this a motherboard issue?

2- Since it works on an external monitor I assume graphic card or the processor is fine.
There is no physical damage on the screen, therefore, I assume there is a problem with the power connection to the screen.

If I buy a new screen I have doubts that it will work.

I am definitely going to send it to the tech service in my country (hard to find reliable Toshiba tech services around here), however, I'd like to know what may be the cause and if I can fix it myself.

What do you guys think? Is it a power issue or a problem with the screen itself?
If a power issue or something else rather than the screen, how can it be fixed?
Same question goes for the keyboard.

3- If i get it fixed or fix it myself, do you think it will occur again? Because I am thinking this might be a faulty laptop from a certain production series since someone else experienced the very same thing with this model.

4- Can there be a relation between the non-functioning keyboard and the screen?

5- If this can be solved with a screen replacement, do I have to find a Toshiba R830 laptop screen or can I just... Read more

Answer:Screen and Keyboard issues on Satellite R830-181

Not easy to say: if external monitor works properly then its not graphic/motherboard problem.
If external USB keyboard works properly, its not motherboard problem too.

> 2- Since it works on an external monitor I assume graphic card or the processor is fine.
Yes, this is correct.

> If I buy a new screen I have doubts that it will work.
I would not recommend purchasing new parts before the faulty parts has not been checked.

> I am definitely going to send it to the tech service in my country (hard to find reliable Toshiba tech services around here), however, I'd like to know what may be the cause and if I can fix it myself.
Good idea to send it to Toshiba service partner since the guys would be able to check the parts and fix it.

> What do you guys think? Is it a power issue or a problem with the screen itself?
If a power issue or something else rather than the screen, how can it be fixed?
>Same question goes for the keyboard.

Don?t think someone can say exactly what cause this? in my opinion its simply a bad luck? hardware can start to malfunction? this happens in for all possible branch of industries (TV, computers, smartphone, cars?)

> 4- Can there be a relation between the non-functioning keyboard and the screen?
No, the keyboard is connected only to motherboard, display is also connected to motherboard but there is no connection between keyboard and display.

I've read through a lot of the threads here on keyboard issues. I'm wondering if anyone else has had symptoms similiar to mine: At random and variable intervals, my mapping will go screwy, the light below F10 will turn on, several keys become completely unresponsive, context sensitive menus pop open, etc. Here's the thing I haven't seen anyone else report: I can be sure one or more of those results will happen if I put pressure on or squeeze the area to the left or below the keyboard - including the black part where the media buttons are and the silver cover that is a natural palm rest. Based on that, I belive it to be hardware related. Anyone have something similar? Do you think replacing the control circuit thing as others have reported will work? Or am I looking at replacing the whole keyboard? Or something else entirely? Note that sometimes it happens even when I haven't touched or squeezed those areas, so what does that mean? Thanks!?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite keyboard issues - with a twist

this usually happens if the connector(s) are lose. eiter keyboard or touchpad.
I donno how this works on toshiba laptops but you could try to remove the keyboard and re-seat the connector to the motherboard.
it is also possible that the contacts underneath the buttons are dirty. this would be a bit more work. you also need to remove the keyboard clean it up carefully. there are cleaning fluids available for notebook keyboards. I think its mostly alcohol in it because it gets dry fast. not sure but I think it was more like a spray.

Hmm?. maybe it?s a FL inverter. The FL inverter is a small part which controls the display backlight?
Usually notebook disassembling procedure is very tricky and it sounds like you have never disassembled the notebook? so I would not recommend doing anything what could damage other parts? Get in contact with an local ASP and ask for the assistance.
Usually the FL inverter should not be expensive parts but I have no idea about the costs?

Can anyone tell me if the onboard keypad on my Satellite A505-S6973 has a backlight.
I'm watching alot of these new laptops and similar to mine, under the keypad it's white and I'm not sure if it's like that because it's supposed to light. If so, can anyone tell me.

On Toshiba US support page I have checked notebook specification and obviously your notebook doesn?t have this illuminated keyboard.
Just for info: all illuminated keyboards have FN+Z option for enabling/disabling illumination.
With other words small keyboard symbol will be placed on Z key.

This option, when illuminated keyboard is in the notebook, is also available in Toshiba HWSetup tool.

I can't seem to find a way of fixing this or the cause of the problem.

Here it is:

I haven't had the laptop for that long and already thinking it is a terrible thing. When I start my laptop there is like a 70% chance of the keyboard not starting (this is up until it gets to the windows login) then around a 15% chance the touch pad wont start. If the touchpad wont start then I just shut down the whole laptop and start again but there is a chance with the laptop that if I use the on screen keyboard to login then the keyboard will start working again. (around 80% chance) I am getting sick of it.

I probably should have written this in code.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Note: I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling and rollback the drivers, even searching for the most current.

my touchpad stopped functioning properly half a year ago. Additionally it blocks my keyboard as well. If I go to sleep mode then start the notebook again then the keyboard starts functioning but not the touchpad. Then at some days touchpad comes back to life and works for a while perfectly.

Also, the notebook has started to heat up recently, especially around the touchpad's place.

I have my drivers installed so I guess that it should not be a problem. What can be?

Hi buddy,

Maybe you should update the touchpad driver. You can download driver updates on official Toshiba website:

There you should find a newer version of touchpad driver.

Regarding the keyboard it would be interesting to know if the same happens with an external one. Can you test this please?

I have a Toshiba Satellite A110, bought a couple of months ago. In the last few weeks it has started randomly locking the keyboard and touchpad (with or without external mouse plugged in - though external mouse always works).

Now there are power up issues, with the system hanging at the Toshiba Bios screen, may fully boot up maybe one time in five.
Wireless network acquisition is also very temperamental. I have tried everything software I can think of (new drivers/virus scan/uninstall-reinstall), with the exception of a full Toshiba back-up disk reinstallation.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Satellite A110: keyboard, touchpad, power-up issues

I think we should firstly find out if the issue is software or hardware related.
In this case the installation of the OS with the Toshiba recovery CD is recommended.
After the installation the notebook should works without any troubles.

But if the unit will hang and will not boot properly than there could be something wrong with the hardware.
I think your warranty is valid and in such case you should always contact the ASP in your county for a checking.

After one month of normal usage one of my school's L300's keyboard and touchpad stopped working. It was reported to me and on the advice of our technician I used the cure disc to reinstall everything back to original state. However, this did not solve the problem. Now I need to go through the normal setup screens and am required to enter a user name which I cannot do! This means I cannot check the drivers etc. The keyboard works fine when in BIOS, but not once windows boots up.

Answer:Satellite Pro L300 (PSLB1A) keyboard and touchpad issues

Set the BIOS settings to default and try again.
When recovery installation starts can you use keyboard (arrows, ENTER) or mouse in Toshiba recovery menu?

Satellite A210 less than 12 months old.

1. Speakers had problem - ASP replaced the motherboard, but now the volume is always very low, even when at 100%. All settings checked and seem to be okay. How to fix??

2. Does not always boot from battery as it is continually flat. Laptop went to ASP who replaced motherboard (again) and put new battery. Now it is always best to run the laptop from the power adaptor as the battery is still losing charge. If unplugged from mains supply battery goes flat over night????

3. Refused to boot up with the power button, talked to ASP who advised to reformat PC - did that but problem still remained

4. Reformatted lots more times and in end sent back to ASP as now the keyboard did not always work either. ASP replaced the motherboard (that is now the third one) but hasn't resolved the problem, and the keyboard. Battery still not holding charge

5. On day that I got A210 back, touchpad didn't work. Talked to ASP who gave me lots of options to try, including turning it off and waiting for 30 minutes, which did nothing. Sent it back to ASP who says there is nothing wrong with it?????

How can I resolve the power on and touchpad issue?
Have given up on the battery and the speakers
Maybe someone other than the ASP can give me an answer please. All I want is to be able to use my laptop and have it do all the usual things that a PC does, sound, keyboard, battery operation and not always have to put in a USB mouse.

Answer:Satellite A210 - Keyboard, touchpad, battery, start up issues

1. Have you checked the volume of the physical volume dial at the front of the laptop? And also the Main and Wave volumes in windows?

2. Go into the BIOS and disable USB Sleep and Charge, and Wake On LAN

3. Try holding the power button down for 2 second

4. All the keys didnt work? Or just some?

5. Try pressing Fn+F9 to toggle the Touchpad. If you installed drivers (such as Logitech or Microsoft) for your external mouse, remove them and reboot.

Hello everyone!

I've had my laptop for a while but I've never actually had the time to take care of the problems that came with it.

Ever since I've gotten it, all the way in July, my touchpad wouldn't work properly.
As simple as that. It would work for a couple of seconds at startup, then it would just get stuck in scroll mode.

My keyboard sometimes just stops working after a long while of using my laptop.

When my laptop shuts off after I'm away from keyboard, after turning it back on, the screen is black.
Each time I need to close it, let it go into sleep mode, then reopen it in order for the screen to display everything.

I have no idea why, also, but all three of my explorers are very buggy. Chrome, Mozilla and IE.
My videos just randomly stop, reload and rebuffer with much lower quality.
They like to close for no reason too. When I'm browsing a page as simple as Facebook, I get framerate issues, I can't scroll down properly as when I do, I find myself skipping through sections because it's that buggy.

Can someone help? Thanks.

Answer:Satellite L50D-B-131 - multiple issues: touchpad, keyboard, internet

Guess what?
It?s hard to believe that all this issues would be related to one ?general? problem.

For example the described internet explorer issues sounds to me like a slow internet connection. Probably the internet browsers are not able to load all the video data (probably in HD resolution) and therefore the video start to play using lower resolution.

The touchpad supports some additional features which could be configured within the ELAN settings. (control panel -> mouse -> ?ELan? settings in last tab)
If you don?t use all the touchpad features, I would recommend you to disable the options in the Elan configuration menu.

Some issues sound also like the system would be locked for a short time.
Why? I?m not quite sure about that but maybe some application run in the background and lock the system for a while.

I?m wondering if you already tried to recover the notebook back to factory settings.
If not; try it out. Feedback would be appreciated.

Answer:Satellite C850 - keyboard issues - double 0 text 0 letter 4s

Connect external USB keyboard and test the functionality. Check if the usage of external USB keyboard would replicate the same problems.
In case the external USB keyboard would work properly, the problem is related to the internal keyboard and this needs to be replaced.

Is warranty still valid?
If yes, get in contact with service partner in your country. The keyboard should be replaced free of charge.

I am having a problem with my keyboard on my Satellite U305 S7446 which I purchased in 2007 in the US. I live in Ireland. It is rarely used and 2 weeks agao I discovered that my keyboard had become intermittent and at times would not work at all. The touchpad is fine. Because of various problems with VISTA I reinstalled the operating system and drivers but could not complete the installation because I had no keyboard. I left the PC for a few days and then after booting up the keyboard was working. I completed the installation process and the keyboard stopped again. Through Device Manager I uninstalled the keyboard and after the next boot it automatically installed the driver but did not cure the problem.

I then discovered through frustration that if I press the Play/Pause button on the panel above the Function keys that the keyboard works again. This is puzzling me as I do not know if there is any connection between the keyboard and the audio panel. During the boot process the CAPS lock key will flash but on completion the keyboard in most cases is dead until I tap the key mentioned above. Even after getting the functionality back it occassionally stops and a tap on the Play/Pause key will normally restore it.

I went to PC World today and they said it will cost me at least 300Euro and maybe more to fix whatever is wrong.

An external keyboard will work but who wants to keep carrying one around.

Can anyone please assist?

Answer:Satellite U305 S7446 - Internal Keyboard issues but external works

That?s very strange buddy but for me it sounds like that the keyboard is faulty. I mean normally during the installation the keyboard should work without any issues.

You have tested already an external keyboard that works so that means the internal keyboard is faulty.

To check the notebook you can go to an authorized service provider. On the Toshiba website you can search for one.
Normally a new keyboard isn?t so expensive and maybe you can sent it back if the keyboard isn?t faulty.

Brand new Laptop, Windows 7, 4GB RAM, etc

Just restored it to factory condition again but to no avail.

Whenever I use the up down etc arrows, it makes letters and numbers come up, not on every key stroke but on say every second. Also the number pad tends to spit out the wrong numbers as well intermittently also, in word, excel and some other programs. The correct keyboard is chosen. The down arrow tends to make <k> come up whilst the right arrow makes a <l> come up Left arrow is <h> and up arrow seems ok.

I am baffled, any ideas?

Answer:Satellite L500 - Keyboard issues using arrows creates letters and numbers

Hi whatnani,

If you have already restored the notebook back to factory settings and checked the correct keyboard layout the case is clear ? Your keyboard is malfunctioning and it should be replaced with a new one.

Satellite L500 is a pretty new model so it should be covered by warranty. Just contact an authorized service provider and ask for that: > Support & Downloads > Find an authorized service provider

Good luck! :)

Here is the problem I have experienced for the on-screen keyboard (with or without tablet mode),
- When the on-screen keyboard comes up, the windows will not automatically resize to make way. The Keyboard will end up covering the window. (In Windows 8.1, all windows will resize.) (In Windows 10, only Store App and Microsoft Edge knows how to resize.)
Any thoughts?

Can a laptop Toshiba L650-1M0 can replace the default standard keyboard for backlit keyboard?

Sorry for my bad english, but I used the Google translator because I do not know how the English language. I only know the Polish ;)

Please write without mistakes, because Google translator will not be able to translate me.

Answer:Satellite L650-1M0: replacement of default standard keyboard for backlit keyboard

>Can a laptop Toshiba L650-1M0 can replace the default standard keyboard for backlit keyboard?

Recommend checking this thread:

Usually the upgrade from a normal keyboard to backlit keyboard should not be a big problem if there is an additional connector on mainboard for such a backlit keyboard.
If such additional connector is not available, then you will NOT be able to use the backlight keyboard.

I am having a hard time finding the exact connector for my keyboard. It seems that this very model I am using (z30-a-1d2) has been discontinued. Most google search results I get refer to portege z30. The keyboard on z30 portege seem almost identical to my model, except that I cannot be sure about the connector. Could somebody please help with this?

Hey all, I've recently (3 weeks ago orsomething) bought a new laptop, a Toshiba Satellite l670-143.
Windows 7 64bit
Intel? Core? i5-430M Processor
: 2.26 / 2.53 Turbo GHz
2nd level cache : 3 MB
4,096 (2,048 + 2,048) MB ram
ATI Mobility Radeon? HD 5650

But this last week ive been experiencing keyboard problems. The problem is not always present, but when its present it doesnt matter wether im gaming, browsing the internet or writing a document.
Im not 100% sure what the problem is, I've spent hours trying to figure it out and to fix it, but nothing seems to help. But when I press a P, I sometimes get ppp. Or when I press a P, it doesnt show up. This is with all keys. And especially when I'm typing fast. Also, when I hold the backspace button, it ''lags(for a split second)'' every 2 seconds orso. When the problem is not present, holding the backspace button is smooth.

I did loads of virusscans, and did all the registercleanups etc. I made sure that sticky keys and filterkeys are disabled. I checked all the drivers for updates. When i tried the nr.1 fix, it did go away when I rebooted. but the next day the problem came back and when I redid it, (did what he said + delete the file and create it again) it didnt fix the problem. Perhaps it was just random luck, I dont know. I disabled the laptop battery to see if it went better, it didnt.
I'm not sure what else ive tried too..

Answer:Satellite L670-143 - Keyboard lags but external keyboard work

To be honest if an external keyboard works properly I think it?s a hardware malfunction and related to internal keyboard. I doubt it?s a virus or something else because the same error would happen on external keyboard as well.

Furthermore for keyboard there is no special driver, it?s a part of Windows so you can?t update the keyboard driver.

Now in your case I would contact nearest authorized service provider. Your notebook is only 3 weeks old so it?s under warranty. If you contact the ASP, they can check the notebook and if you need a new keyboard, the repair is for free. :)

I use a Satellite A300D series notebook and whilst at home i use a UBS keyboard on it, but once the laptop is used without a USB keyboard only some of the keys seem to work i.e. i get the number 6 when i press the I key.

I thought this could be because the USB keyboard might not have been stopped properaly when i disconnected it and the notebook thought that it was still there but even after stopping the USB keyboard the same thing happens!!

Any answers to my problem???

I have a new Satellite L300 (model no. PSLB8E-06Q007EN) that I bought in the UK recently when my old laptop died while I was on holiday.

I'm now back home in the USA and would like to swap out the UK keyboard for a US keyboard.

Are the footprint and connections the same between the two keyboards?
If so, I'd really like to just get my familiary old US format back.

And I'd appreciate any suggestions for US parts warehouses online that could provide the US keyboard.

Thank you for any assistance.

Answer:Satellite L300 - How to physically change UK keyboard to US keyboard

The Satellite L300 notebook is a European series and created for European market.
There is the similar notebook model Satellite L305 which was released for US market.
I think you could use the same keyboard.

Furthermore all notebook parts could be ordered from local ASP (authorized service partner).

Here on this page you can find all ASPs worldwide: -> Support & Download -> Find an Authorized Service Provider

Get in contact with the guys and ask for further details?.

My laptop got wet (water).. At first only one key was not working.
It got worse when i tryed to fix it I put it under a fan and it made most keys not respond
some keys were working but i decided to change the keyboard.
( i didnt power it off and just used a usb keyboard)

I have replaced the keyboard from ebay
My question is about the back lit strip.
My old keyboard; had a ribben cable coming out to LED light node and additional black plastic wraping on the backside of keyboard.
I broke the ribben from the old keyboard ( no not the regular ribben cable )
I reconnected the new keyboard which; did not have led lights or black plastic
I go into keyboard on control pannel and it says my keyboard is connected (1 to usb & 2 to the computers port Standard P/S2 keyboard& is working fine
.( it isnt working at all)
Does my laptop need to have the led circuit connected?
is it a loop to the keyboard ribben ( which i have connected)

I have talked to someone who believes this is for led(s) and all that is uncommon on non-backlit keyboards and should not be necessary for the keyboard to work and we believe its only lighting.
keyboard to turn on but I am missing a ribben connection to this extra strip of LED lights and what else ?

Should i order a plastic led light strip and stick it to my new keyboard to match the original
Do i need to complete the circuit where the led ribben was connected as it is a loop or safety feature or to complete the circuit
