Question: Do you use Dell Technical Updates subscription and/or Dell Update and/or Dell SupportAssist?

Hi all,
I'm interested in your strategies for getting updates for your Dell laptops.
When I got my XPS 15, I subscribed to the Technical Updates service, to receive emails about updates.
That was before I realised my laptop came with the Dell Update application, which advises me of updates via notifications.
I was a bit uncomfortable having two sources of updates. Am I wasting bandwidth downloading the same update twice? Am I overwriting a newer update from one source with an older update from the other source? etc
And I've recently had the SupportAssist 'plugin' installed. Lo and behold, it's Drivers and Downloads section is also suggesting updates.
Do I need all three of these?
I'm tempted to unsubscribe from the emails, uninstall SupportAssist, and just rely on Dell Update. Am I going to miss any important updates if I do this?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

Bryan Houliston,If you have already did the updates there is no need to keep doing them over and over. Personally, I only use the Dell Updates and I choose which updates I want to install manually. If you choose to uninstall Support Assist from the installed programs in control panel.It is fine. Also, you can check back on the link below every so often to see if there are any updates you need or want to install in your computer.Dell Drivers, Downloads and Manuals

Hello,
Should I be using Dell Update to keep my XPS 13 9360 up-to-date, or the Dell website?
The Dell website seems to have more up-to-date software and drivers, whereas Dell Update says that I'm up-to-date.

XPS13 with Windows 10.  See screen shot below.  Dell Support Assist program says the two driver updates are recommended.  clicking "install" it shows progress to install, then says installed, but on refresh or re-entry to the program it still shows them as needing to be installed.  No errors generated.  Other driver updates done the same way without issue.  Suggestions?

Don't use Dell Support assist with windows 10. Windows 10 will install generic drivers if Dell doesn't have win 10 drivers. You should mention the full model name of the computer. Does Dell support your model for upgrading to win 10? If so, get the win 10 drivers from Dell Drivers and Downloads.

Twice recently received Dell Technical Update emails for "driver for the Intel 8260/7265/7260/3165/3160 WiFi "    DriversDetails?driverId=YJNRX   Criticality:Recommended
Release date:7/13/2017 3:47:31 AM

Nothing in the email is link-active.  
Checked Dell support (independently of email) and cannot find any such driver.  Being suspicious, chatted with Dell tech support and they say it is "spam.Hard to understand how it can be phishing if no active links in email.  Similar issue with "spam."

Hi the email from dell received today provides a link to an 800MB cab file of drivers.  The emails says the update is optional.  I checked the tet file which showed that it contains many drivers and a couple that I checked I already have.  What is the point of this file when Dell's auto update mechanism supposedly just updates what you need?

I'm having this issue on Inspiron 5559 and Windows 10 Pro (SO build 14393.693)
I don't have a solution but I can provide more information from the log files to help with troubleshooting.
For anyone interested, the log files are located in C:\ProgramData\Dell\Update\Logs\ and C:\ProgramData\Dell\SARemediation\log\.
General update process messages are in C:\ProgramData\Dell\Update\Logs\Service.log but post relevant messages are in C:\ProgramData\Dell\SARemediation\log\Deployer.log.

Dell Update reports there's an update for  "SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools". When I click Install Now, it looks like it installed, but it reports the same update again an hour later (or immediately if I force update check).
I have this problem on two XPS 13 9550's, and this thread shows five other users (and counting) having the problem on machines including XPS 15, Inspiron 15-7569.
Is Dell aware of this installer bug, and will there be a fix? That notification balloon is really irritating.

Question: Dell SupportAssist

I have a Dell Inspiron 3650 Desktop.  I use SupportAssist to install recommended drivers, BIOS updates, etc.  However, I have one update that does not install properly, or the Support Assist is stuck in a loop...
The following driver has been "installed" at least 3 times already:
Chipset – Intel Management Engine Interface Driver 11.0.0.1168, A01 (32 MB)
After selecting "Install Selected", the machine seems to install, and then does a reboot.  But every time I open SupportAssist, this same update is still there.  Anyone else ever had this problem?  Not sure where to check to see if this driver is even installed...  Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Dell SupportAssist

To check the driver, go to the Device Manager and open the System Devices section.  The Intel Management is there so open the properties and go to the Driver tab to check the details.   If you check the events tab it shows a sequence like Device migrated and configured and started.  If it shows some error let us know.
To open Device Manager, right click the start button (or Winkey+X) and go up the menu.

Dell Update keeps requesting to install "SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools".  I select "Install Now" and it appears to install.  However a few days later (I think the next time it checks for updates) it prompts me to install it again.
Please can you help me resolve this so that the update installs correctly and thereby getting rid of the prompts.

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 laptop and have recently done updates from Dell but since then now when I turn the laptop on its running extremely slow and nothing seems to load up.  I'm on Windows 10

Hi - Finally made an account here to vent my issues with my XPS13.My machine: dell XPS 13 9350
I have "Dell Update" installed and today it suggested me 1 new update: "SupportAssist Update plugin".Even tho I can't recall having installed "SupportAssist" in the first place.
Can someone please elaborate:- What this "SupportAssist" does? Is it sending data to Dell?- Specifically, what is this "Support UPDATE PLUGIN" and why am I even receiving it?- Can I delete "SupportAssist" and if so : HOW?

I got on my dell computer while i was off of it, and all of a sudden some application on my desktop called "SupportAssist" was on my computer and apparently it was made today.


I scanned with malwarebytes and got nothing nor with windows defender.
I dont remember installing anything today.

And i went on the control panel and it shows nothing really suspicious.

i checked its properties and it had "PC Doctor Module"



Is this made by dell or is this a virus?
And I checked another thing and there was some SupportAssistAgent which seemed to be installed over a month ago?


I'm really concerned this may be a virus, but malwarebytes and windows defender say otherwise.

Hello experts,
I have connected 3 external monitors to my 9560 laptop via TB16 dock. 2 Dell 24" 4K monitors: 1) DP to DP and 2) miniDP to DP & 1 Dell 24" 1920-1080 via VGA-VGA connection. The 4K monitor with miniDP to DP constantly disconnects. What am i doing wrong here?

Bought a X-rite i1 display calibrator to be able to hardware calibrate my Dell u2413 Monitor but there seems to be a communication problem with win 10 even though there is a win 10 driver installed for the monitor. Is there a solution to this for win 10? Otherwise I don't have much us of the x-rite since im not interested in software calibration...

Hey,
I got my new XPS 13 this week (moving from macbook pro) and it seems I can't work out the monitor resolution.
I'm running windows 10 on XPS 13 (i7 2.9, 16 gig ram, Intel HD Graphics 620To it I connected DA200 and via HDMI cable  u2913wm.I can't manage to get higher resolution than 1920x1080!Never had this issue on my macbook (same HDMI) and the graphic card is displaying on the laptop itself resolution of 3200 x 1800 so, surly, its strong enough.
Updated the graphic card drivers, monitor drivers, reinstalled DDM and googled everything i could think of, eventually, ended up here.
I made sure to buy only DELL's solutions and I was promised I won't have an issue but, well, this is why you never listen to sales people.

This morning I had a popup indicating it was Dell SupportAssist, with an "Alert" that there was an issue with my PC. I did a quick verification on the WEB that SupportAssist is a legitimate program, and observed it was installed (or possibly updated) 2 days ago, assuming from an automatic Dell Update.
To continue, the program requested that I confirm ownership by logging into my Dell account. After doing so, it requested my name, phone and email to assist me with my alert.  Is this normal setup for this tool? Although suspicious, I provided the information, which seemed to hang when I tried to continue.
Now concerned, I manually started SupportAssist, noticing it had a different interface. I killed the previous pop-up, and changed my Dell password with a slight hope that I was in time to avoid any identity theft, etc. I ran a scan with SupportAssist and no issues were found. I ran my anti-virus but no issues were found.
Is the above behavior normal for Dell SupportAssist? Is there any known virus (and how to remove) that appears as this Dell software? I have an XPS 12.

After the above actions, I received a legitimate email from Dell thanking me for setting up my Dell account. Although I opened it long ago, the address information was significantly out of date, so it seems this alert was simply to assure my personal account information was updated and complete.
While I've heard of scams that ask for personal information and access to your computer, along with a subsequent charge to fix it, this particular case seems to be legitimate. While SupportAssist seems like it could be handy, it bothered me that was installed and executed without my consent. It would have been better for Dell to send an email explaining and offering the new feature, so it would not be such a surprise.

Answer:Confusing Dell SupportAssist Test Results

Hi Airpilot and welcome to Tenforums.

The Dell SupportAssist may need to be updated, or completely uninstalled and reinstalled. Sounds like there are problems with the program.

To be quite honest, most people get rid of all that OEM "bloatware", but in your case, it might be best to leave it until your system is out of warranty. Should you have a hard drive failure or something else go wrong, Dell will ask you to run that collection of tests and provide failure mode results before replacing any warranty parts.

You can open an administrative command prompt (right-click the start button) and type sfc /scannow and press ENTER to run the system file checker. If it returns with "no integrity violations found", you know your W10 OS is fine.

You can also check the system specs, monitor temps, and see hard drive health with Speccy (free program).

I made a mistake and allowed Dell to install some SupportAssist components today.  I have seen quite a few errors created for the Dell Software, (SARemediation) but nothing like this... They all happened this morning between 12:56:22 and 12:56:29.
I am posting this in case someone at Dell may need to know... 1568 errors in 7 minutes seems like a lot.
The error says:
DCOM got error "1115" attempting to start the service TrustedInstaller with arguments "Unavailable" in order to run the server:

Hi all,
I have a XPS 15 9550 with Windows 10, and lately I noticed that this Dell SupportAssist Remediation would automatically start running at night and when it does it takes about half of the computer memory.

I decided (perhaps mistakenly) to uninstall it but when I do, the progress bar of the uninstaller window would get stuck at around 60% for hours and this PostOnce program (which I assume is the uninstaller) would take up to 90% of memory. I have attempted this several times but each time I have to kill the program because it is taking way too long.

I am wondering if it is safe to kill the uninstallation, and if there are other ways to uninstall Dell SupportAssist Remediation? Any help would be much appreciated.

After a failed Windows 10 Update, the laptop will not boot. I tried SAFE MODE and since then the machine just stays black. I cannot get it to boot!!
I have tried:
- Holding down power 10 seconds and trying again.
- Spamming F12, F8 keys to no avail.
- Holding CTRL+ESC and then plugging in AC and still nothing! Just a black screen!
Please help me! Machine is well out of warranty now.

Hi,
Recently, every time I let Dell Update install the following:
- Intel HD Graphics Driver
- Dell Update - SupportAssist Update Plugin
It fails and I get the BSOD with the Stop Code: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA and What Failed: ddkmd.sys.
Does anyone have any idea what I can do to solve this?

Just fixed this issue with a customers Vostro 3750.
The latest Support drivers cause DPC latency of half a second at a time once every 60 seconds and a lot more smaller pauses in between. The problem can be seen as mouse cursor is stuck for a moment and if there's audio, you'll hear a buzzing sound.

A correct solution at the moment seems to be disabling the system device Dell Diag Control Device (i.e. DDDriver64Dcsa.sys) until new version is published.

I eventually discovered that my problem was a dying hard drive.  The reason the disk was getting tied up was that it was having trouble being written to (or read possibly).  When the disk finally died, and I replaced it, my problems were gone.  I am slowly (or not so slowly) replacing all my seagate drives with either Hitachi or Toshiba drives.  I have two computer, two external drives and an 8 drive NAS.  I have had 4 Seagate drives die on me.  So far, the Toshiba and Hitachi drives haven't failed me.
I know that Seagate has bought out the Htachi drive business.  I am just hoping that Seagate doesn't manage to botch the superior Hitachi technology.

Hi all,

Sorry for this being my first post, but I've run into a Bluetooth problem and cannot seem to get past it.

I've got a Dell XPS 13 9333 (the initial one) that has performed well for me with the exception of occasional Bluetooth driver burp. In the past I've been able to restore functionality by reinstalling the driver, doing a system restore, etc.

Trouble is, this time, I've run into a brick wall.

Last night I got an alert from the Dell Update daemon that they were installing an update.

This morning everything was working fine and then blink, no more bluetooth mouse. Cycling power on the mouse did nothing and a quick check indicated no Bluetooth device listing in Settings->Devices.

I've downloaded the Intel bluetooth drivers from the Dell website and initially did a repair, and then when that didn't work a removal and then installation. No luck. I've also done a

Restarting the laptop doesn't change anything. No bluetooth.

Looking in the Device Manager, there is no listing for any Bluetooth devices.

Any ideas?

LOL!

It's back. After rebooting into my work profile after going back to a restore point, nothing had changed.

Changing to my admin profile, the OS informed me that the recovery was succesful. So I did a quick repair of the Intel drivers and voila! Bluetooth.

A reboot back into my work profile demonstrates Bluetooth connectivity!

Windows 7 x64.  Generic image on Latitude E7470s with up to date BIOS and drivers per Command Update and manually installed drivers.
Recently we've gotten a rash of about 20 systems that as they've been getting updates for Dell drivers their systems crash with BSOD APC_INDEX_MISMATCH multiple times per day.  We've tried removing the currently installed drivers manually and then reinstalling current drivers but it does not seem to fix the issue.  Has anyone else seen this?  I'm pasting the output from our .DMP output in the Debugger. What I'm confused about is the process: audiodg.exe  This is a Windows system file and not part of the Realtech driver.

o/s Windows 10. Update my drivers with a free trial program, but after the scan, b4 it wld update they require a fee. The scan said 16 drivers needed updating. I tried a number of so called free updates, each scan found a different number of so call "needed" updated drivers. Seems like a scam to get an annual fee. QUESTION: Is there a way to get system driver updates, "that are really needed", not just a scam to get my money into their pockets? Retired, on a limited income!!! I would be willing to pay a reasonable fee for a product that actually perform a ligitamate service, as I am computer illiterate and need all the help I can get.

Hello everyone. after my last "dell update" ive had some SERIOUS issues with the battery.. i can charge it to 100% shut down the screen lid, and its discharged next morning when i wake up. 

i live in Denmark, and the warratny rules are propably different here in other countries, but here we can call the sales place, and open up a warranty case, here at dell it seems that we are FORCED to go through a lot of different steps before being able to open up a warranty case. isnt there any way to avoid all those "trouble shotting" with AI bots they have hired to filter out the customer's wanting to open up a warranty case

i have paid for premium support, but when i called the last night they wanted me to call back, but for whatever reason it was, i dont know
I now have a spacebar that is squeaky, a battery that is discharging, and a monitor that randomly starts blinking. oh yeah and if you have the dell sound software turned on and you try to dim the light on the monitor by using FN+ F11 or 12 you get a lot of statis noise in the speakers.

Pls can someone help me, and the regular warranty is about to run out in 17 days, and i want this resolved asap. I am afraid that dell might postpone this to make the warranty run out :(
im new to using Dell services and dell forum's but it seem like a very big job to open up a simple warranty case

Hey Everyone my Dell Inspiron 15 failed to upload an update, and then rebooted. 
Then it got stuck on the "Dell" screen and wont boot up Windows 8. I can get into the Bios, but nothing seems to help, and the Diagnostic test says that it cannot find the Hard Drive.

Hi,
It seems that I have a problem with the Dell Command | Update tool, because it keeps suggesting to download and update the same 3 updates all the time - please find enclosed a print screen. I already installed them at least 3-4 times, but nothing helps.. By the way, it didn't find the new BIOS version which I had to download manually.
While when I run the "detect drivers" tool via Dell's website, it doesn't find any new drivers to be installed. However, I suspect that it just doesn't work well, because manually I found several drivers available on Dell's webpage which were newer than the drivers which are currently installed on my machine (I logged in with the laptop's service tag, so I believe that only relevant drivers should be presented).
My machine is Dell Latitude 7480 running Win 10 Pro.
Please advise.

Dell has a problem with some Dell Vostro 200 pc's which involves a black screen just after boot. The advised solution from Dell is to set prefetch to only boot rather than boot and applications. Empty the prefetch folder and in effect not use prefetch as it was designed for Windows XP, Is this a legitimate solution for customers experiencing this problem? I always thought prefetch was supposed to "speed things up". Any suggestions about this? Is Dell just blowing the customers off?

I just wanted to do a little research on this system (maybe someone has purchased one). The dell chat representatives aren't exactly as experienced with the details as I would like(no surprise there). So I have the following questions:

The main thing I'm addressing here is the expandability of this system. I want to save a some cash on purchasing this system

1. First the RAM/memory of the system.
2. The processor specifications
3. The HDD.
4. Finally the motherboard.

For this I was planning on just getting 4GB of RAM for now and upgrading later to 8GB (Prolly not higher because that requires a processor upgrade). I was wondering if this was possible with this system(I'm expecting it is, but just for verification to be sure).

So:
Buy now with 4GB of RAM
Upgrade manually myself to 8GB of RAM
Possible Yes/No

2. The processor.

This is just something I am curious about, but its essentially the same question as the RAM. Could I upgrade the processor that I get manually myself after purchase. However, that is probably expensive so it's only out of curiosity for the most part.

3. The HDD

It mentions Dual Drive capabilities. I was wondering if I order any of the single drive options, would I still get dual drive capabilities even if I purchase only a single drive. The specs should state the maximum amount of RAM it supports. You can also try plugging the model info into www.crucial.com and see what it comes back with.

Don't plan on upgrading the processor in a laptop. Aside from completely disassembling it, the entire chassis is designed for optimal performance and cooling for the processor it comes with. Any potential upgrade would be so minimal as to not be cost effective.

Dell will have to tell you if you can add a 2nd hard drive after purchase or not. I would think so, but don't assume.

What do you plan to use this laptop for? You're asking a lot of questions about upgrading and modding. Laptops aren't designed for that. If you need both portability and power, step up to a more powerful laptop from the start. If you don't need portability (and 17" laptop isn't all that portable), consider building your own desktop with the high-end components you want.

I keep getting these errors.  I uninstalled Dell Support Assistant, Dell Support Assistant remediation, and dell update services  and reinstalled them all but the errors keep coming back and I have a feeling something important in the winretools and dellsupport partitions are not getting updated.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

My new laptop ran Dell Updates overnight a couple of days ago and I had to power it up the next morning, only to discover it was a complete restart and the programs I had open were closed. Luckily I think I was able to recover everything from the closed applications, but is there a way to tell Dell Updates when I want to restart the computer?
Also, I was able to do this with Windows 10 before the anniversary update, but the option seems to have disappeared in the settings now.

Three different tech support personnel helped me upgrade from Win 7 to WIN 10 on my 1 week old Inspiron 3650.  I paid for the following from the parts list "

Not one tech mentioned going from Win 7 to 10 would wipe my drive.  So I found out at the cliff, where there was no turning back.

I ask for $150 refund, they say "We politely refuse", and I never get out of talking to india.

I recently bought a new gaming inspiron 5675 desktop gaming desktop.  A GAMING desktop.  I found that it shipped with only 1 stick of 8GB ram in single channel.  
Ok, so I call Dell support and say hey listen does this computer support dual channel?  I mean it's 2017 I would assume that it does right?   Technical support told me NO it does not support dual channel.  Sales told me YES it dose support dual channel.  They told me it used SO-DIMMS though so obviously they aren't very bright.  
So, what's the answer?  I would assume a Ryzen board would have to support this.  The run around and absolute lack of knowledge these support people have about PC's in ridiculous.  Until I got a manager the tech people didn't even know what dual channel was.  I had to provide them links from Dell's site. 
So, then I said well look why can't you guys send me 2x4gb and I'll send you the 1x8gb back, bam easy.  
Nope.  They refused and won't even give me my original discount on my purchase.  Why would a gaming PC not ship in performance configuration?

Currently I have had my Dell Latitude E5440 serviced. The technician has replaced the motherboard of  my laptop. I have witnessed the worst service ever from Dell. During the service, he removed all screws but failed to put all of them back to their positions. I saw 3 or 4 screws that did not fit to the screw holes, so he took some of the screws from his toolbox and fixed them into my laptop and put the screws of my laptop to his toolbox. it looked unprofessional to me. I am wondering if misuse of the screws will cause any damage to my laptop later on?
Another  issue after has happened after the service, it is the laptop was totally dead just 1 day after the motherboard replacement although it worked perfectly in the past (the battery could last approx 4 hrs when full charge). After the battery is used until low battery, I plugged the charger in and leave the laptop for couple of hours. I came back and saw 92% battery charged so I unplugged and intended to take the laptop with me. However, the laptop shut down immediately after unplugged the charger and could not be turned on without the charger plug in. After plug in the charger and turn on on the laptop The black screen appeared with some writing

I purchased two almost identical Dell XPS laptop, one 15" and one 13", for the purpose of back up each other.  If one computer is down, the other is still running.  The 15" runs fine, the 13" with the same hardware set up is full of problems.  The 13" wireless keep drop in and out of the wifi while the 15" has no problem at the same location.  The 13" keep have this notification "dell update ready to install".  After the install, the computer is crashed 5 times with blue screens.  Both computers are 3 months old, and I asked Dell to send  a replacement while they could repair the 13".  I keep sending them the pictures of the crash blue screen. But they refuse to send me a replacement.  Dell insists they will send a technician to my place for the repair.  That means I cannot work for that day: I travel and visit client as my job.  I have worked on it for 4 hours. How many hours do I need to work to fix the *** computer?

I will keep everyone posted of this.  And every time when the computer crash, I am going to make a call and ask for replacement.  Lets see how many times I should try to get any answer.

Something you might do to help folks see the problem is to note any differences between the two systems.  For instance, do they have the same model Wi-Fi adapter?  
If you compare the connection status on both systems, are they similar as far as IP addresses and both networks are showing as Private.

I would like to complain about a bad experience I am having with Dell's technical service in Israel.
Two days ago (9/19/17) a technician arrived to my house to replace my PC's motherboard and graphic card. Because of VERY limited working hours of the technical support team, eventually my wife had to take the day off, just for letting the technician in to fix the computer. I arrived home several hours after he left, and found out that the PC's cooler fan wasn’t working anymore. It is quite reasonable to assume that the failure of the fan is due to the technician's work, by forgetting to connect the power cable, spilling some glue over it etc. when I called the technical support, all they had to say to me was that due to a Jewish holiday in the next two days, they will contact me the next week (five days later) to schedule a new technician visit. During that long period of time, until a technician will a arrive, I was told not to turn on the computer. I would like to stress that I use my computer for work on a daily basis, and in addition to the five days I have been asked to wait for a phone call, there would be more days to wait until the actual arrival of the technician.
We already had to take a day off for the technician, now we would have to take another day off, due to Dell technician's negligence, and on the top of it, wait outrageous amount of time for the visit, all that time being instructed not to turn on my work PC, which I have to ... Read more

I own a Dell Latitude E6430.   I am looking for a Dell Companion 12000mAh or 18000mAh type of device to power and charge my Dell Lattitude E6430 when I am traveling (no outlet available).   When I view the compatibility list for both the Dell Companion 12000mAh and the 18000mAh I don't see the Dell Latitude E6430 in either list.  I went and purchased the 12000mAh and I am attempting to use this to charge and power my Dell Latitude E6430.  It powers my Dell Laptop for about a minute and then quits.   Is there a solution for this problem?   And/or is there another Dell Companion type device that I can purchase that is listed as 100% compatible with the Dell Latitude E6430?   I would like to either get this solution working or purchase the product that is listed as 100% compatible.

I have been using my Dell U2414H monitor and AC511 soundbar on Windows 10 TP for several months without issue. However, as of the last update, the soundbar is no longer recognised as itself, but instead as 'USB Audio Device' using the generic Microsoft drivers in Device Manager. This results in low-level, but quite annoying background noise or hum.
I have tried unplugging, replugging and switching the USB cables, uninstalling the USB Audio Device in Device Manager and replugging etc, to no avail. Frustratingly, the picture of the Soundbar often comes up in the Taskbar, but the correct driver fails to install.
I would like to try manually installing the driver using the 'Have disk' function, but since the driver for the Soundbar is WHQL signed, there isn't a download.
Could Dell make the driver package available as a download?
Or could an enterprising person with a working soundbar locate the driver files and package them?

I would like to ask your opinion about Dell Australia technical support and Dell Pro support (the one you pay extra for next business day service).  What do you think about it? Are you satisfied? I am starting to believe that it is actually a scam. Let me explain: 
A few days ago my laptop (Dell XPS 15 Haswell) died, it wouldn't power up. I called support and they told me they will send someone to replace the motherboard in 2 days (it was 17:30 or something). I also explained them that it is very important to have the laptop up and running this week because this is the laptop I use to work. After two days the technician came at my place (he was late, I missed two important meetings at work because of that) and replaced the motherboard.  After he left I realised that the laptop will power up itself after shut down from both Windows and Linux. To avoid that I had to hard-shut down (press power button continuously). I called them back and the PRO support was insisting that it was a software problem. I was explaining them that this is impossible based on several facts. They even asked me to run a GPU test from windows which was just testing the D3D11 capabilities of the GPU. Clearly the technicians at PRO support are incompetent. After spending 2+ hours on the phone they realised the obvious: The problem was indeed a hardware problem. I bought a Dell XPS 15 (9550) with Windows 10 and so far everything have been good, except that I keep getting empty updates from the Dell Update-app. 
I have installed these empty updates ("0 updates are ready to install") many times but they never stop. 

Today, I got this message: "73 updates are ready to install", which got me a bit worried. 
What can I do?

Hi, my dell xps 9333 won't turn on. LED and keyword backlight switch on for a moment (less than a second) and then everything turns off. I tried to press Fn key while pressing switch on button, but same thing happens. I do not get any acoustic signal. Can you help me?

There's absolutly no mention about the pressure sensitivity level on Dell Inspiron 13 7373 + Dell Active Pen.
It's very important aspect when choosing touchscreen products with stylus.
Also, which pens do exactly work with Dell Inspiron 13 7373 and are they all have same pressure sensitivity level?

Earlier today I did a factory reset on my laptop. After a couple hours I went to check on the status and the screen was totally black but the mouse still showed. I figured maybe it needed to be rebooted, but rebooting it gave me the same results.
Is there a key that I can press that will show up an option to do a reser again? I seriously am at a loss. To better help explain, I'm attaching a video of what exactly happens every time I start my laptop.

I have an XPS 8700 desktop all stock bought a little over a year ago. Last night I turned it off when I went to bed. Today I turned it on and it will not go past the first dell loading screen. It freezes and I'm unable to press any buttons (F2, F12 etc) I put it a different hard drive to see if that was the problem but it still continued. HELP PLEASE??

Please disconnect all the connectors and then hold down the power button for 15 secs, now remove the memory modules and put them back one by one and observe for any changes. 
If possible please try another set of memory modules. If there is a separate graphics card, remove that as well and try the onboard.

Having owned the XPS for just over 1 year (with the warranty just expired), it decided not to power on anymore.
Looking at the forum, the problem seems to be rather systemic with the XPS model (engineering issue?) and there is almost daily a comment regarding this in the forum.
(This is a description from another user, but identical to my problem: "...I get nothing when pressing the power button and it has now been off for 1 hour. I have tried battery in + AC, battery in alone, no battery + AC and none of it works. When the AC power is connected the charging light does not come on either. No indication as to what the issue is, it wasn't hot, there wasn't a burning smell, had only been on for ten minutes, had a full battery, was AC connected and the AC adaptor is fine (it has the normal blue glowing light)....")
Anyhow, I had a about 20 email exchanges with Dell tech support over a period of 2 weeks asking for help to resolve the issue. No constructive answers at all. Finally, I identified  the local Dell repair centre and brought the device there. The technician looked at the LED error code and diagnosed "motherboard failure". They still refused to repair on-site, but advised me to await quotation through Dell tech support. Quotation came 2 days later: equivalence of 886 USD! (That is just 300 USD less than what I paid for the device 1 year ago...) They demanded advanced payment before any repair.

I wanted to buy a new laptop and found out about Dell 5577 on the internet. I wanted to know more about it. So in the evening, I went to nearby official Dell Store in Swastik Plaza, Vasant Vihar, Thane(W).

Over there, I met Sandeep Kanade, who is the customer representative at the store. He showed me a Dell 5577 which was on display. I tried it out for a few minutes.

The laptop was good but the display looked somewhat off. The colors were not vibrant and picture quality looked dull.

Before going to the store, I had read on the internet that recent Dell laptops have TN displays with poor screen quality. An alternative to TN is IPS display which has much better display quality.

So while I was trying out the on-display Dell 5577 laptop, I asked Sandeep if this display is IPS or TN. To which he replied that its an IPS display. Then I asked the price of the laptop. He said its 85,000 Rs.

Then I asked, what if there is an issue with laptop in first few days? He said that if there is any issue with the laptop, within the first week of purchase, he will replace it.

I told him that I will come by next morning to do the payment.

Hey guys,I just got a new Dell 24" monitor ST2410 that has higher resolution than my 19" that just burned out.  However, I can't get it to work.  I've downloaded the proper drivers and everything seemed to have worked but I still can't use the higher resolution.  I contacted Dell support for help and they finally came to the same conclusion as I had that my video card or something on my computer, now years old, will not allow for any higher resolution than 1280x1024.  My graphics are Intel Extreme Graphics 2 and it says that it's monitor supported modes are from 640x480 all the way up to 1920x1080 under the system information.  But it won't work.  So if it doesn't work what do I have to do as far as installing new hardware to be able to do such?  What do you recommend and who do you recommend do the work or is it something I can do myself?  About how much will it cost, etc?  Thanks for your help.Edit:  My buddy has an older dimension desktop and he never had an issue with his when he bought a couple much higher resolution monitors.  Also, if I'm not giving enough info on this don't hesitate to ask for more if you think you can give the answer.  I can give service tag and stuff like that if needed.  Thanks a ton to whoever can help out a noobie.

It's most likely due to the refresh rate, if your like me fast-pase gaming is better with a high refresh rate 75+. (How many times if refreshs the screen with an image)Default is however set to 60 on most monitors, which looks fine to the average eye, it is normal that flat screens can't support high resolution as well as a high refresh rate. You're limited to 1280x1024 max resolution if refresh > 60.Set your refresh rate to 60, apply, then raise your resolution. I have read multiple postings about folks spend hours on the phone with Dell about Blue Screens of Death and Inspiron 530. I too bought a Dell Inspiron 530 - the First machine, after installing my lexmark printer 3400 driver not only gave me blue screens but memory issues with the windows desktop not painting correctly and icons missing! So I called Dell and they told me how reset the machine back to the factory settings...but I still encountered the Blue screen of Death even after that and then going to standby/hibernation and coming back - clicking to yahoo and checking mai! Boom Blue Screen every time! I called Dell and they replaced the machine with another Dell Inspiron desktop 1 week ago. I hooked up the new one and the same exact thing has happened - I restored the settings again and have already had the dreaded blue screen Stop error code 0x40000080 even with out now installing anything related to a printer!!! all while coming back from hibernation! So what I have read here is to get around this issue is to never let the machine got to standby or Hibernation is that correct?? or do I need driver updates! why in the world I would need new drivers when this is a brand new machine!!! HELP in CT!

I bought a new Dell i3847 and it has Windows 7 Pro 64bit factory installed on it.
I wanted to do a full system backup, but the Dell Backup and Recovery software will not allow me to do a system backup.  Further, I have been unable to create a system recovery disk using Dell Backup and Recovery.
I can't use the Dell provided system disk for recovery because it is clearly marked Windows 8.1

1) Why is a Win 8.1 disk included with a Win 7 Pro 64bit system?
2) What is wrong with Dell Backup and Recovery that it:
a) can't create a factory recovery disk
b) won't allow me to create a system back up so I can return it to the factory state

Help!

It's been 2.5 hours and it is still "initializing disk" to create a factory recovery.  It usually fails somewhere during initialization or writing.    Spending hours for each failed attempt to create a factory recovery disk is NOT GOOD!

I just got a brand new XPS 8910 with i7 6th gen 3.4ghz, 16gb ram desktop. I have been using a XPS 8500 desktop for 5+ years and have been thoroughly happy with its performance so far. I used a SSD with it for fast boot and general performance boost. I did the same thing with the new XPS and put a Sandisk Ultra II 240gb on it and installed Windows 10 there.

The factory boot time was 37 seconds from a cold boot (post through the login screen).
With the SSD and legacy boot (non UEFI) the boot time is 45 seconds.

My old XPS booted in 15 seconds.

A 5+ year newer machine boots 30 seconds slower. What am I missing.

I need a resolution soon or this is going back.

Hi, I had a GPU fail in my Dell Vostro 1500 laptop. The card that failed was an NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS. The Vostro laptop actually can accept an NVIDIA 8600 GT card too. So I ordered the replacement part from Dell for the 8600 and they shipped me a refurbished unit.
The surgery to put in the new card took all night for hack like to do. I did not look carefully at the refurbished unit they shipped me as I was nervous handling the card (that I might break it).
But when I turned on the laptop after the installation, I did not get a pause at the BIOS saying “I see new hardware” like I did when I upgraded the RAM.
After the computer booted up I uninstalled the 8400 driver and then installed the 8600 driver. There was a snag at it’s possible that Windows automatically reinstalled the 8400 driver during one the required reboots but I KNOW that I wrote the 8600 driver over top at least (I had hoped to do a clean uninstall then reinstall but Windows tried to grab a driver for me).
So now when I right click on computers, properties device manager it shows the video as still the 8400 card. The 8400 card I removed has a sticker on it that says KU907 on it. The invoice for the 8600 that Dell sent for the 8600 says KU907 on it too.
I think I was sent the wrong part from Dell (I paid a higher price for the 8600 GPU) . Is it possible that a legacy driver is making the Vostro think it has the 8400 when the part IS an 8600. Or when I go to the Device Manager, does the computer physically c... Read more

We just recently purchased a new computer but am struggling to get our printer installed.  My printer works on my desktop ( I work from home so yes I have a desktop).  The printer also works with our other laptop via USB. Something happened sometime back that disrupted our Wi-Fi connection so I just never got it back up and running.   Anyway, we have this brand new laptop. I have been on the Support website and downloaded the drivers. save the files to the computer , unzipped them and executed the setup. The printer shows on my computer but it still says the drivers are missing.  It doesn't work hooking it up to the USB port etc.... 

I am ready to send my new computer back...so frustrated.   Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please list exact Dell model. Ex: Dell Inspiron 5000 5567, windows 10. If you don't know, type msinfo32 onto the [Cortana] search box, and then look for System Model.

After connected my dell XPS 13 with Dell 34" ultra monitor via Kensington SD4000 universal docking station. Have video but no sound coming out from my ultra wide monitor. The only sound that I heard was from the XPS laptop. My Laptop's OS is window 10 and I tried to use Chrome and explorer Edge, none of the search engine is able to solve the problem. Dell Precision M6400 Win7 64 bit Dell Webcam Central Software.
Long story short, just purchased a M6400, upgraded after purchase with SSD, clean install. Cant Find Win7 64 bit Dell Webcam Central Software.
Please help, no I cant go in to my account and download due to my laptop transfer has not yet cleared.
Webcam is recognized in windows configuration, but not in dell. Already removed win software, but I have no way or nothing to replace with.

Click Uninstall.

i have just purchased a DELL Inspiron 15 5000 SERIES - 5559 with Windows 10 Pro pre-installed in Spanish. I have also purchased a DELL 24" additional screen SE2416H.
Whilst watching live internet broadcasts (TV, Youtube etc.) on Chrome, Edge or Firefox, as soon as I connect the screen to the laptop by HDMI cable, the sound on my laptop speakers disappears. Upon disconnection of the HDMI screen cable, the sound re-appears.  
However, the sound doesn't disappear when using other sound applications such as Skype. 
This means I can't enjoy watching internet TV with sound on the 24" screen.
Please advise how to fix this as the main point of purchasing the 24" screen was precisely to be able to watch (and listen to) TV programs.

When I powered up my new dell xps 15 9550 this morning, (bought less than 1 week ago) I had a message from Dell in the bottom right hand corner of the screen saying there was a firmware update notification. I clicked on this and proceeded to update the firmware.
since this, I have been suffering from the screen going blank and the only way to get it back on again is to switch off the laptop completely!
I have restored the bios to factory settings (F2) and have also tried disabling the nvdia video card but still have the same problem of the intermittent screen going black.
At the same time, if I am listening to music, the music also switches off, so it doesn't appear to be just a video card problem.
It all appears to point to this firmware update?!
any help would be much appreciated.

I initially reported that my XPS 15 locks-up displaying an all white display, however, I have since noticed it locking-up with a black display or gray display. Recycling power is the only way to get the computer working again. Prior to an automated firmware update, my XPS had been working fine. If you find a solution, please post it. I will do the same.

I'm from Pakistan, recently I've purchased more than 20 dell optiplex 3050 with LCD E1916H. Most probably all the system are doing same issue which discussed above by many users. I connected the LCD with DP cable to CPU, nothing happens wrong until i opened Microsoft excel, watching YouTube video and sometime when switching from one tab to another in browser. The culprit seems to be the hardware acceleration enabled in the Intel HD driver. But, I have yet to find a way to disable it universally across the Windows 10 operating system.

I just swapped out a e5-2603 CPU and installed a e5-1620 CPU in a Precision T5600.  The PC will not boot, and prior to a forced entering to bios setup, it gives a warning/error
"Your dell current power supply does not support the recent configuration changes made .."
My PSU is a 635W - this should be sufficient, yes??
So is the 1620 not compatible with this model?

I have a new Dell XPS 8900 connected to a Dell U2413 monitor using the HDMI to mini-HDMI cable.  When I switch off the monitor (to save the screen and energy), the PC jumps into an unrecoverable power saving mode, shutting down all open applications in doing so.  The mouse and keyboard lock up.  The only way to restart the PC is to press the power button for several seconds (hard reboot).   This began happening recently.  What can be done to fix?

Hey, im having some issues. I have a DELL inspiron 5100 laptop and i just recently removed a virus that almost destroyed my hard drive, I got it to work fine but after a few days of use it started to freeze up on the DELL loading screen on the start up, i accidently pressed the F12 key and it took me to a screen with different ways to start up XP, like through the Hard drive or a disk.
i selected to run offthe hard drive and it froze up any help?

hi, after you hit F12 did you see the diagnostics program at all? Ordinarily I would say It may be worthwhile running a scan on the hard drive if you can. But, I see you removed a virus, can you tell me if it was with the help of the antimalware section on this forum? or did you just remove it yourself? I need to know if you are absolutely sure you removed all traces of the virus - if you had the help of a forum they would have given you the "all clear". Have you tried starting in safe mode at all?

The precision 5520 is available with two wireless cards, the dell wireless 1820 (when configured with ubuntu) and the Intel WiFi Link 8265 (when configured with windows 10).  I have the 1820 and ubuntu, but I also want to use windows 10.  When I installed windows 10, the card worked fine.  However, when I installed the anniversary update, the card stopped working.  In the device manager, it said that the device cannot start (code 10).  On the dell website, there are only drivers listed for the Intel WiFi Link 8265 card, and none for the 1820, so I couldn't install any drivers.  
Does anyone know how to make the 1820 card work under windows 10 anniversary?

When I attempt to start my laptop it goes to the Dell logo screen and will not boot Windows 8. Any suggestions?

Re-installing windows is the last resort. So before doing that, you can try the steps mentioned below which might fix the issue. 1. Restart the laptop and start tapping the F2 key at the Dell logo for enter the BIOS. 2. Navigate to the “Advanced” menu. 3. Change the SATA operation/selection in BIOS from Intel Smart Response to AHCI. 4. Press F10 to save changes and exit. 5. Reboot the system. 6. Go back into the BIOS by tapping the F2 key and change the SATA operation/selection in BIOS from AHCI to Intel Smart Response. 7. Save changes and exit by pressing the F10 key. 8. Reboot the system and it should boot normally into Windows. In case the above steps don’t fix the issue, run the Pre-Boot System Assessment (PSA / ePSA) Diagnostics. Run the test and check if gives any error code. Note down the error code and update me with the same, would let you know the next course of action. Please write back with results.

Morning - we just bought (our second) XPS 13 which I did a clean install of Windows 10 on (to claim back as much disk space as possible). All okay, except when selecting 'Restart' from the 'Start Button/Power', the computer freezes on the Dell logo, not even getting to the spinning dots stage.

If I turn the laptop off and re-boot, all is well. Also, if I go into BIOS/UEFI and re-boot from there, it boots back to Windows okay: Windows will just not restart itself. Since the BIOS re-booting works okay, I was wondering if this is a Windows problem (Dell have been no help at all on their forums for me).

All the drivers are up-to-date, as are all the MS upates, which are set to automatic.

Any help would be much appreciated - by all those on the Dell forums!

I have a Dell Dimension 4700C manufactured December 2004. It has an 80GB SATA hard drive that has many bad sectors and would not boot up. I was able to get all data off using HDD Regenerator program to repair ALL the numerous bad sectors and than I rewrote partition info using TestDisk and finally was able to get access to drive to scan and recover with NTFS GetDataBack

I was able to make Ghost images of the 47 MB Dell Utility partition and the 3500MB Dell Restore partition. The main Windows partition would not image with Ghost--it gave numerous structure errors/warnings and would close after clicking through about 4 messages

I tried creating 3 partitions on the new 320GB WD drive with Partititon Magic 8 roughly the same size and formatting as old 80 GB drive (except Windows partition which is approx. 225 GB in size)

Than I restored the 2 complete Ghost images back to those respective newly created partitions. When I tried booting the computer up with new hard drive and hit CTRL F11, I could not start Dell Recovery. I was able to temporarily set Dell Utility partition to active using Partition Magic, reboot and run Dell Diagnostics

I think where I went wrong was that when I restored the Ghost image of Dell Restore partition it showed up as FAT32 instead of the CP/M, Concurrent DOS, CTOS formatting that displayed in Partition Magic. So I ran TestDisk and changed the partition type to DE CP/M and tried rebooting and CTRL F11 to start Dell Recovery and it did not work. I als... Read more

I have a 2 month old XPS15 purchased form the Dell Outlet Store in the UK. I usually have it permanently plugged in, but recently used it on battery power for the first time. I noticed that the battery wasn't charging, and the indicator light at the front blinks alternately white and orange (one white then one orange)
After a bit of investigation I found the BIOS Battery settings saying that the battery was not a genuine Dell battery and therefore wouldn't charge. I have not changed the battery - the machine is exactly as supplied by Dell.
It now pops up a warning about the battery whenever I power on.
I tried upgrading the BIOS (from 1.1.3) but every time I tried it would fail.
Is it now standard practice for Dell to supply laptops without genuine Dell batteries?

I need some help with my old Dell Studio Laptop. I don't know the exact make, but I am pretty sure it is from 2010. Anyway, a few weeks ago, I put a disc into my laptop and shortly, the laptop started making strange noises. I managed to eject the disc, but now whenever I try to start up the laptop, I cannot. After the Dell logo pops up, it says there is a problem with starting my computer (this is a blue, Windows 10 screen, as I downloaded Windows 10). I have tried restarting, following that blue screen to "Troubleshoot," "Advanced Options," "System Restore," etc., but nothing is working. I have some photos on my laptop that I would like to recover before this situation gets any worse. Thank you!

First thing to do is remove the hard drive, mount it in an external case (example below) and attach it to a working system to make a backup of those files.
Once that's done, you can proceed with the Dell diagnostics (F12 at powerup) -- test the entire system AND run an extended test on the hard drive.  If there is an error, replace the faulty part.  If not, you can proceed with a repair or reinstall of the OS.
Get the files backed up NOW before you go any further.

Greetings!
I would like to ask for your assistance because I'm already out of ideas how to resolve this issue. Right after I powered up the laptop, it will get past the DELL logo screen, then it will be completely just black screen. I wouldn't even hear any activity from the CPU fan, HDD and pressing the Caps Lock doesn't lit up the LED. The LED indicators on the side are only displaying the power indicator, but none for HDD, Battery and Wireless.
Here are the steps that I have done so far:
1) Removed the HDD and Battery, then press & hold the power button for at least 45-60 seconds to disperse the internal voltage. Then attach the Battery, but not the HDD.
2) Press and hold Fn and then the Power button, hoping to boot me up to the ePSA Diagnostic Utility
3) Press F2 or F12 while booting up
4) Re-seat the memory and also clean with a dry tissue
These are the procedures that I have done but nothing has changed. It still displays blank screen right after the DELL logo.
I do hope that you could assist me on this. Thank you so much!

Just received and installed replacement Mobo from Dell.   All is well except now when it boots.  States no bootable device.  
* The HDD is plugged in
Per Dell tech support, they sent a replacement Motheboard.   Mobo installed fine.
States cannot fine bootable drive.
* HDD is plugged in
* HDD in #1 in BIOS boot order
Does this have something to do with the Windows 10 Pro system key in BIOS?
Dell sent me the S/N and product key card.

I have just bought a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 15.6" Laptop
...and I want to use my Dell u2412M monitor, to extend the screens for my workspace ( or simply use the bigger monitor screen).
To achieve this I am using an HDMI cable with an HDMI to DVI adaptor to plug the cable into the Dell monitor.
I've tested the cable on my old Sony laptop using HDMI to DVI and it recognises the monitor and works (my other laptop was running Windows 7).
However the new laptop won't recognise or see the monitor at all when I plug in the HDMI cable?
I have checked under "manage my devices" and the graphics card driver seems up to date on the laptop.
Is there something I need to download to make the monitor work please as I assumed it would plug and play.

Whenever I boot my machine, it brings up the Dell screen and hangs for a very long time, 1 minute or more, then it boots up apparently normally. However, when it does boot, sometimes my cd-burner is not detected, and is not available in my computer- windows explorer., or listed in the device manager. Equally at times, my second hard drive does not make it into the mix after the os loads. What could be causing this problem?

I have the Dell XPS 13 9360 and have been using the Dell USB type-C adapter to connect to wired Ethernet network. I have a problem when waking up the laptop from suspend. VGA and USB on the adapter continue to work well after wake from suspend but the Wired Network functionality of the adapter is not recognized.
Note that if I unplug and replug the adapter it is recognised correctly.
The adapter is using the driver r8152 for wired networking, I am using Linux Mint 18.1 (Ubuntu 16.04 based) and kernel 4.8.0.34
Besides this I think almost everything works perfect with the laptop

Hello,
As soon as I open a few windows in my browser, I get a popup that says "Memory insufficient - close some programs). And then my browsers crash all the time. Often the popup says the problem is with "Dell Premier Color" but not always.
How can I fix that? I though this laptop had so much RAM?

Answer:Constant Memory Issue on Dell XPS 15 (9550), usually with Dell Premier Color

The exact messages which I get are:
"Your computer is low on memory. To restore enough memory for programs  to work correctly, save your files and then close or restart all open programs."
AND
"Your computer is low on memory. Save your files and close these programs: Dell PremierColor"
I get this even though I do not use much memory at all (just normal usage!)
Please let me know how to fix this, thanks!
